[0:01] Speaker 1: The volume.
[0:03] Speaker 2: Today's show is brought to you by our presenting sponsor,
[0:06] Speaker 2: American Beverage. If you think about some of the most
[0:08] Speaker 2: iconic drinks in the country, the ones you grab a barbecue,
[0:12] Speaker 2: the ones you raised to celebrate your team, that have
[0:15] Speaker 2: been part of your story for decades, Coke, Doctor, Pepper, Pepsi,
[0:18] Speaker 2: there's something people don't always think about. The companies behind
[0:21] Speaker 2: those brands are still making their drinks right here in
[0:23] Speaker 2: the US. While there's a lot of talk about bringing
[0:25] Speaker 2: manufacturing back, America's beverage companies never left their American companies,
[0:29] Speaker 2: making American products with American workers in America's hometown. So
[0:32] Speaker 2: two hundred and seventy five thousand men and women across
[0:35] Speaker 2: all fifty states, real jobs, good paying jobs, the kind
[0:38] Speaker 2: of jobs you can raise a family on. So more
[0:39] Speaker 2: than one hundred years, those brands have been part of
[0:42] Speaker 2: everyday lives and they're still here, still investing, still operating
[0:45] Speaker 2: in communities around the country. So if you care about
[0:47] Speaker 2: strong old economies and companies that walk the walk, check
[0:50] Speaker 2: out the good work and what they're doing it. We
[0:52] Speaker 2: deliver for America dot Org. Well, the day didn't start well.
[1:04] Speaker 2: I backed out. I had Monday off because the World
[1:06] Speaker 2: Baseball Classic. I backed out of the garage. The door
[1:08] Speaker 2: wasn't all the way open, and I rammed it with
[1:11] Speaker 2: Anne's car, So that was just not good for me.
[1:16] Speaker 2: That was not and we're going on vacation Saturday. So
[1:19] Speaker 2: I got to make amends really quickly.
[1:22] Speaker 3: Did the garage door follow you or did the car
[1:24] Speaker 3: get the worst of it? Or what happened there?
[1:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, well the garage door stopped working and the car
[1:30] Speaker 2: got dinged up, So it's terrible.
[1:33] Speaker 4: So I said, all right, I'll go walk the dogs and.
[1:37] Speaker 2: Watch them. NFL free agency, so I've made peace with
[1:40] Speaker 2: it and had to go with her sister downtown Chicago,
[1:44] Speaker 2: so she had a cool off. All right, let's start
[1:48] Speaker 2: with this, okay. I know he only has six starts
[1:53] Speaker 2: NFL free agency. Malik willis twenty two million a year,
[1:59] Speaker 2: three year deal with the Dolphins. He is not to
[2:01] Speaker 2: a stop saying that he's a real athlete with a
[2:04] Speaker 2: better arm. He's got a much better arm than to it,
[2:07] Speaker 2: and he's really athletic.
[2:10] Speaker 4: I know he's young. I like him.
[2:13] Speaker 2: I you know, John, I've said this for years. I
[2:16] Speaker 2: don't know anything about music other than I like it.
[2:19] Speaker 2: I can watch these musical shows. I can tell him
[2:21] Speaker 2: thirty seconds if somebody has like lounge ACKed, or you
[2:25] Speaker 2: could sign him to a record deal. And I don't
[2:27] Speaker 2: know anything about music. I know a little about football.
[2:30] Speaker 2: When I watched that kid's escapability arm, he's got I
[2:34] Speaker 2: mean he's got again.
[2:36] Speaker 4: It's the it's Green Bay.
[2:38] Speaker 2: So he was well coached, but there were Packer fans
[2:41] Speaker 2: saying they thought he was as good or better than
[2:43] Speaker 2: Jordan Love. I think the Dolphins went and found a
[2:46] Speaker 2: very interesting player at quarterback.
[2:48] Speaker 3: Well, the other thing is the people that just signed
[2:50] Speaker 3: him know him. And it's not the offensive coach to
[2:53] Speaker 3: the defensive coordinator that went against him forever, because you
[2:56] Speaker 3: know in the NFL, when you're the backup quarterback, you
[2:59] Speaker 3: run the you know, you run the scout team, you
[3:02] Speaker 3: service the defense. So Jeff Hafley had a front row
[3:04] Speaker 3: seat for two years. And the general manager who was
[3:07] Speaker 3: the right hand guy for Gudikins same thing. Right from
[3:10] Speaker 3: an evaluation standpoint, do you remember a guy improving this
[3:14] Speaker 3: much this fast? Because remember what tennessee, he was pretty bad,
[3:17] Speaker 3: like he was unplayable, and then last year when he
[3:20] Speaker 3: had to play, he was basically just a running quarterback.
[3:23] Speaker 3: When la Floor remember because he got hurt in Week
[3:25] Speaker 3: one in Brazil, loved it and then he had to
[3:27] Speaker 3: play and they started winning. It's like, okay, there's at
[3:30] Speaker 3: least something there. I gave Lafleur a lot of credit
[3:32] Speaker 3: this year to me with his arm was fantastic because
[3:36] Speaker 3: he proved two things. One he could come out of
[3:38] Speaker 3: the bullpen. So he played in a game when Love
[3:41] Speaker 3: got hurt against the Bears that he was not planning
[3:43] Speaker 3: on playing. And then let's face it, Love was kind
[3:46] Speaker 3: of hit or missed this year. In that game, he
[3:47] Speaker 3: was fantastic. And the cold weather, which is a big
[3:50] Speaker 3: knock on Tua and a big knock on the Miami
[3:52] Speaker 3: Dolphins can't play in cold weather? Well, why is that
[3:55] Speaker 3: the case? Usually when you have a p shooter arm,
[3:57] Speaker 3: what doesn't pierce the cold in the win? Weak arm strength?
[4:00] Speaker 3: Look at the great quarterbacks you know historically in that region,
[4:04] Speaker 3: Big Ben, Tom Brady, Peyton, Manning and Breeze played in
[4:07] Speaker 3: a dome. Rivers played in southern California, Eli Manning, huge arm.
[4:11] Speaker 3: Where do you play in New York? You know? Donovan McNabb,
[4:14] Speaker 3: Michael Vick, Patrick Mahomes cold weather quarterbacks. Burrows somewhat of
[4:18] Speaker 3: an outlier, not a great arm but he's just he's
[4:21] Speaker 3: like Montana, just a great player. So it kind of translates.
[4:24] Speaker 3: But I'm with you. I not only like it, I
[4:27] Speaker 3: think it's an incredible story of just improvement. Clearly, he
[4:31] Speaker 3: was always a high character, interesting human, but the play
[4:34] Speaker 3: was really raw when Tennessee drafted him. But the lafleur
[4:38] Speaker 3: deserves a lot of credit because that offensive staff improving
[4:41] Speaker 3: the player deserves a lot of credit. Incredible story. I'm
[4:44] Speaker 3: with you. I think no brainer for him. Miami to
[4:47] Speaker 3: me is more interesting than going to than Arizona. So
[4:51] Speaker 3: I like picking the spot, and you know, the guys
[4:53] Speaker 3: know you and believe in you, so he wouldn't shock
[4:56] Speaker 3: me at off. He I don't think he becomes like
[4:57] Speaker 3: a top seven eight quarterback, but has just a solid
[5:00] Speaker 3: career like what we saw last year. There is no
[5:03] Speaker 3: disputing he was a really good player in limited action.
[5:06] Speaker 3: Really good.
[5:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, And it should be noted that Sam Darnold and
[5:11] Speaker 2: Baker Mayfield, you know we've seen this before. There's more
[5:18] Speaker 2: good offensive coaches, there's more sophisticated schemes. If you're a
[5:22] Speaker 2: hard working kid. You're not gobbling up, you know, too
[5:25] Speaker 2: much cap space. Although they have to pay two off
[5:27] Speaker 2: for two years, so I think we both like it
[5:30] Speaker 2: all right. Here's another one. Mike Evans to the forty
[5:32] Speaker 2: nine ers, so he is a big red zone target.
[5:35] Speaker 2: They have been hit and miss on receivers. I thought
[5:38] Speaker 2: they over played their hand on Deebo. He was good,
[5:42] Speaker 2: briefly got hurt, moved him. Iux a disaster. Ricky Piersoll's solid,
[5:47] Speaker 2: not great, but you know, late first round pick. Mike Evans,
[5:50] Speaker 2: red zone guy, Kittle, McCaffrey, Trent Williams. It's again older
[5:56] Speaker 2: player picks up the playbook with Kyle Shanahan quickly a playmaker.
[6:02] Speaker 2: It feels like Kyle Shanahan didn't have a ton of
[6:04] Speaker 2: patience with young players.
[6:05] Speaker 4: He likes guys.
[6:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it feels like to me he likes
[6:08] Speaker 2: veteran players. So Mike Evans to the Niners again. This
[6:12] Speaker 2: gives brock Purty another weapon. Feels like it works to me.
[6:15] Speaker 3: Yeah, it fits their kind of mold, high character, high
[6:18] Speaker 3: level guy, very productive, you know, Fred Warner, Christian McCaffrey
[6:23] Speaker 3: like that type, human slash player. Ricky Piersall is a
[6:28] Speaker 3: good player, just can't stay on the field, and Juwan
[6:30] Speaker 3: Jennings is going to get a lot of money. So
[6:33] Speaker 3: the IU thing blew up in their face. Yeah. I mean,
[6:36] Speaker 3: they have a major question mark at the wide receiver position.
[6:40] Speaker 3: And the other thing is the Rams are loading up
[6:42] Speaker 3: on their defensive backfield. So I think the forty nine
[6:44] Speaker 3: Ers had to do something offensively because you saw in
[6:46] Speaker 3: those last couple games against Seattle. Obviously Kittle went down
[6:50] Speaker 3: in the second game, but they just had no firepower.
[6:54] Speaker 3: And the one thing you have to do the Rams
[6:55] Speaker 3: prove this if you have some firepower, that this is
[6:59] Speaker 3: not nineteen eighty seven, the rules are on your side
[7:01] Speaker 3: as an offensive coach. But they were rolling out practice
[7:04] Speaker 3: squad level guys. So you get Mike Evans, a future
[7:07] Speaker 3: Hall of Famer love That move doesn't shock me at all.
[7:10] Speaker 3: I mean that the forty nine Ers at this point
[7:12] Speaker 3: in time haven't been that active the last couple of
[7:15] Speaker 3: years in free agency, but that's a Kyle Shanahan tap.
[7:18] Speaker 4: Guy for sure.
[7:19] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[7:20] Speaker 2: I mean, just listen, the entire team gets nicked up.
[7:23] Speaker 2: I mean there's been stories about some right next to
[7:26] Speaker 2: their practice to substation there's a substation which weakens tissues.
[7:32] Speaker 2: I don't know if it's true, but to me, he
[7:35] Speaker 2: feels so forty nine ers. All right, let me throw
[7:37] Speaker 2: another one at you. We talked about this yesterday. Tyler Lindebaum.
[7:41] Speaker 2: I'm not sure why Baltimore didn't sign him, Probably because
[7:44] Speaker 2: they have a Lamar contract renegotiation coming up, renegotiation coming up.
[7:48] Speaker 2: Max Crosby's expensive, Kyle Hamilton outside of Creed Humphrey of
[7:52] Speaker 2: the Chiefs, there's an argument Tyer Linderbaum is the best
[7:55] Speaker 2: center in football. I thought they were going to resign him.
[7:59] Speaker 2: He was a first round pick out of Iowa. Tough, smart, durable,
[8:03] Speaker 2: doesn't miss a lot of starts.
[8:05] Speaker 3: I love.
[8:06] Speaker 2: This is an A plus move to me by the
[8:08] Speaker 2: Raiders because this is what Ben Johnson did with the Bears.
[8:12] Speaker 2: You know, they went drafted jpj out of Oregon last year.
[8:16] Speaker 2: He's more of a guard. He was a center in college.
[8:19] Speaker 2: He's more of a guard. Then they bring in a
[8:22] Speaker 2: Pro Bowl center for Fernando Mendoza. Now their offense, basically,
[8:27] Speaker 2: they'll probably they have so many picks, they'll probably get
[8:29] Speaker 2: a receiver in the second or third round. They'll also
[8:32] Speaker 2: probably draft a right tackle, fourth fifth round. I love
[8:37] Speaker 2: this to me, this is my favorite signing so far
[8:40] Speaker 2: in free agency.
[8:41] Speaker 3: Well, look at all the good teams, right, The Ravens
[8:43] Speaker 3: for the last four years have had one of the
[8:44] Speaker 3: best centers, The Chiefs have one of the best centers.
[8:47] Speaker 3: The Bills just paid their center. Like, I mean, center
[8:50] Speaker 3: kind of matters, especially when you have a young quarterback.
[8:52] Speaker 3: And I think if you're a Raider fan, you look
[8:53] Speaker 3: at it go. We essentially traded Max Crosby for two
[8:57] Speaker 3: first round picks, one being fourteen and a center who's
[9:00] Speaker 3: one of the better centers in the league. I just looked.
[9:02] Speaker 3: He hasn't missed a snap really in the last two years.
[9:05] Speaker 3: So this is a very durable classic like Midwest center. Right.
[9:09] Speaker 3: The other thing is, I would say this for the
[9:11] Speaker 3: raven standpoint, he was banged up last year, but the
[9:14] Speaker 3: previous two years, when you factor in the center, obviously
[9:18] Speaker 3: was an excellent player and likely who accounted for eleven
[9:21] Speaker 3: touchdowns in twenty three to twenty four, was very productive
[9:25] Speaker 3: in their two playoff or their two playoff runs those
[9:28] Speaker 3: two years. Like he's not Kelsey or Kittle or anything,
[9:32] Speaker 3: but he was a unique player for them and made
[9:35] Speaker 3: huge plays, even the play that led to the missfield
[9:38] Speaker 3: goal against Pittsburgh on that Sunday night game. Who made
[9:41] Speaker 3: the crazy catch Isaiah Likely? How many teams have a
[9:44] Speaker 3: six to six guy. I mean, he kind of plays
[9:46] Speaker 3: like a little Darren Waller basketball player, elite athlete. You
[9:50] Speaker 3: just you don't need to be that accurate. Just throw
[9:53] Speaker 3: him a fifty to fifty ball, because it's not a
[9:54] Speaker 3: fifty to fifty ball. So there are some injury concerns.
[9:58] Speaker 3: He's not the most durable player. He is a unique player, though,
[10:02] Speaker 3: So you tell me the Ravens on offense with this
[10:05] Speaker 3: twenty nine year old aging quarterback, new offensive coordinator lose
[10:08] Speaker 3: their you know, kind of just stalwart guy at center
[10:13] Speaker 3: and this unique chess piece with Likely. You know, Henry
[10:16] Speaker 3: still got something in the tank, but he's a little older.
[10:19] Speaker 3: Zay Flowers isn't exactly Jerry Rice. Good player, but I
[10:22] Speaker 3: mean their offense has some question marks, assuming their defense
[10:26] Speaker 3: will improve, which it will, but I don't know. That's
[10:29] Speaker 3: that's to me something to keep an eye on with
[10:31] Speaker 3: the Ravens, who are clearly trying. You know, we talked
[10:34] Speaker 3: about this last night, right Super Bowl or bust. I
[10:37] Speaker 3: mean making it to the super Bowl. They're in this
[10:39] Speaker 3: little couple of year window now of them and the Bills.
[10:42] Speaker 3: There's no well we made the playoffs. That's not really
[10:44] Speaker 3: their standard in their organization now.
[10:48] Speaker 2: Rashawn Gary to Dallas Rusher off the edge. I mean
[10:51] Speaker 2: listen Quinn Williams, Kenny Clark and the trade for Micah
[10:55] Speaker 2: Parsons Rashawn Gary. It allows them to go get a
[10:58] Speaker 2: corner and maybe a Kayla Downs in the draft in
[11:01] Speaker 2: the first round. I mean, that's what it feels like
[11:03] Speaker 2: to me, is that they're they're gonna buy you know,
[11:06] Speaker 2: they're gonna spend money defensively up front. They don't want
[11:08] Speaker 2: to wait for developing players. Jerry Jones is getting older,
[11:11] Speaker 2: Dak's getting older, so they're gonna go buy veteran players
[11:14] Speaker 2: up front, which they have, and then they're gonna draft
[11:17] Speaker 2: on the back end. I still think they're gonna draft
[11:18] Speaker 2: defensive players with their picks in the first round.
[11:21] Speaker 3: Yeah, I think clearly there's gonna be a good defensive
[11:24] Speaker 3: back there with their first pick, which is what is
[11:27] Speaker 3: it thirteen? Like they're gonna get Caleb Downs. Definitely, there's
[11:30] Speaker 3: a chance he's there. When you factor or.
[11:32] Speaker 4: One of the two best corners.
[11:33] Speaker 3: Yeah, so they're gonna get and I think at pick
[11:36] Speaker 3: twenty gives them a little leeway of just they could
[11:38] Speaker 3: take a great player, right who doesn't have to be
[11:41] Speaker 3: a position in need. Say this about the Cowboys. They've
[11:44] Speaker 3: they've drafted pretty well, especially in the first round from
[11:47] Speaker 3: Zach Martin. You know, Zeke was really good. Obviously, Ceedee Lamb.
[11:51] Speaker 2: Like Timers Smith has become a good player.
[11:53] Speaker 3: Tylers, all their offensive linemen have become, you know, starters
[11:56] Speaker 3: for their team. So I one thing you'd say about
[11:59] Speaker 3: Jerry in the front eye office operation, Jerry's not the
[12:01] Speaker 3: guy breaking down seven games on every player right now.
[12:04] Speaker 3: He's the guy front and center when the press conference comes.
[12:07] Speaker 3: But they have a really good scouting staff. So I
[12:09] Speaker 3: think the Cowboys. I was just texting somebody, I think
[12:13] Speaker 3: the Giants this NFC East. You know the Eagles, they
[12:17] Speaker 3: lose Jalen Phillips. Their pass rush when they won the
[12:19] Speaker 3: Super Bowl a couple of years ago was like historically great.
[12:22] Speaker 3: I think they had four guys get double digit sacks. Well,
[12:24] Speaker 3: since then, Brandon Graham retired, came back, probably retire again.
[12:28] Speaker 3: Fletcher Cox is gone. Obviously, Sweat is now on the Cardinals.
[12:33] Speaker 3: They have this Jalen Carter situation, who is an elite talent,
[12:36] Speaker 3: but they are very uncomfortable paying him forty forty five
[12:39] Speaker 3: million dollars. So it's like, now you look at the Giants,
[12:42] Speaker 3: who have some stability. The Cowboys offensively have been fantastic.
[12:46] Speaker 3: Shottenheim approved, Like, he's a pretty good offensive play call.
[12:49] Speaker 3: If their defense is just solid, they're gonna be a
[12:51] Speaker 3: pretty interesting team. So you gotta have the Giants and
[12:53] Speaker 3: the Cowboys. Like that division is going to be, to me,
[12:56] Speaker 3: dramatically more competitive than I would say it's been over
[12:59] Speaker 3: the last ten year years when it's basically just been
[13:01] Speaker 3: the Eagles, or those couple of years with McCarthy when
[13:04] Speaker 3: the Cowboys were pretty loaded. But now the Commanders, I
[13:08] Speaker 3: think Commanders still have a lot of question marks. I
[13:10] Speaker 3: think they clearly wanted Linderbaum, But what did the Raiders have.
[13:13] Speaker 3: No state income tax could offer a huge amount of money.
[13:16] Speaker 3: You just have a fresh slate. Here come you get
[13:18] Speaker 3: to be the team captain. So the Commanders had cut
[13:21] Speaker 3: their center. He's now on the Chargers. I'm sure they
[13:23] Speaker 3: wanted Linderbaumb, they don't have that. Their roster's kind of
[13:26] Speaker 3: old to begin with, so and the Eagles just got
[13:29] Speaker 3: a lot of moving parts. Now, they still got a
[13:31] Speaker 3: lot of talent and talent in the NFL matters, but man,
[13:35] Speaker 3: there's just that division to me, has gotten a lot
[13:37] Speaker 3: more interesting in the last couple months.
[13:40] Speaker 2: I would say Kenneth Walker from Seattle to Kansas City again,
[13:44] Speaker 2: he's great after contact gets dinged up, but they have
[13:47] Speaker 2: no juice. They're losing backs to free agency. They have
[13:49] Speaker 2: no juice in the backfield. I also thought this made
[13:52] Speaker 2: sense because they don't have a ton of draft picks,
[13:55] Speaker 2: but it allows them. Now their first pickul be the
[13:57] Speaker 2: right tackle Fino from Utah.
[14:01] Speaker 4: They need a.
[14:01] Speaker 2: Corner for McDuffie. They need an edge rusher. They have
[14:03] Speaker 2: three big needs now with Kenneth Walker, they'll probably draft
[14:06] Speaker 2: another running back later in the draft.
[14:08] Speaker 4: It's not a good running back draft.
[14:10] Speaker 2: So I mean to me, Kenneth Walker is more valuable
[14:15] Speaker 2: that This sounds weird to say as a Super Bowl MVP,
[14:17] Speaker 2: but I think because of Charbonnay with the Seahawks as
[14:20] Speaker 2: a backup, they have another couple backs in Seattle that
[14:23] Speaker 2: are you know, spot players. They don't play a ton,
[14:26] Speaker 2: but I think Kenneth Walker or the Chiefs feels incredibly valuable.
[14:31] Speaker 2: And with Seattle, not that he was disposable, but they
[14:34] Speaker 2: have such a stacked roster. It feels like if they
[14:36] Speaker 2: drafted another running back in the fourth round, one of
[14:38] Speaker 2: the Penn State running back in the third round, You're like,
[14:41] Speaker 2: they're fine.
[14:42] Speaker 4: I think Kansas City had to do this.
[14:44] Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think they had a choice either. I
[14:47] Speaker 3: think it's pretty clear to them too. Now. I don't
[14:49] Speaker 3: think they would have taken Jeremiah of but at this
[14:52] Speaker 3: point in time, you're weighing all your options. I think
[14:54] Speaker 3: they understand that that wasn't even going to be an
[14:56] Speaker 3: option at pick nine, so you go, unquote overpay me.
[15:01] Speaker 3: They gave him a substantial amount of money three years,
[15:03] Speaker 3: forty five million dollars, almost guarantee him thirty Remember a
[15:05] Speaker 3: couple of years ago, that was essentially what Howie Roseman
[15:08] Speaker 3: gave Sakquaud Barkley. So these running backs, they've been on
[15:10] Speaker 3: zoom calls, always bitching the mona. They don't get any
[15:12] Speaker 3: money like this has been a lot better the last
[15:14] Speaker 3: couple of years. You know, the money has gravitated toward them. Listen,
[15:19] Speaker 3: the Chiefs, they weren't gonna let Baltimore and Buffalo have
[15:22] Speaker 3: all the fun like Andy Reid. They don't plan on
[15:26] Speaker 3: I know a lot of people talk about this, I'll
[15:27] Speaker 3: just have an off year and they ain't mailing anything
[15:30] Speaker 3: in their game plan is mahomes start in week one.
[15:33] Speaker 3: They plan on winning. They get a plug and play
[15:35] Speaker 3: running back. Now, one thing that he's gonna have to
[15:38] Speaker 3: prove he can do Andy like's throwing the ball to
[15:41] Speaker 3: the back, right, Shady McCoy, Brian Westbrook, Jamal Charles when
[15:45] Speaker 3: he first got to Kansas City does. So It's like, now,
[15:49] Speaker 3: could they maybe want to adapt a little bit to
[15:51] Speaker 3: take some pressure who they bring back? Eric b Enemy
[15:54] Speaker 3: What's he a running back guy? Right? So maybe they
[15:57] Speaker 3: want to take a little pressure off coming up off
[16:00] Speaker 3: an injury, right, coming off at ACL They're not gonna
[16:02] Speaker 3: want him to throw forty fifty times a game like
[16:04] Speaker 3: he did earlier in his career. So could they maybe
[16:07] Speaker 3: try to lean on Kenneth Walker a little bit more?
[16:10] Speaker 3: Now that would be very opposite of Andy's history. But listen,
[16:14] Speaker 3: what do talented people in eddie industry do? They adapt?
[16:17] Speaker 3: They change Andy's changed how many times his offense? His
[16:20] Speaker 3: offense now ask anyone is dramatically different than it was
[16:22] Speaker 3: ten years ago, twenty years ago. So what if you
[16:25] Speaker 3: tell everyone, I don't think many people in the league
[16:27] Speaker 3: would believe you they're a rushing team this year. Right,
[16:30] Speaker 3: they got a good guard, they got a good center,
[16:31] Speaker 3: they got a young stud left tackle. Like you said,
[16:33] Speaker 3: what if they draft a right tackle and they go,
[16:35] Speaker 3: you know what, why don't we do some Kyle Shanahan
[16:38] Speaker 3: and just run the ball, take a little pressure off
[16:41] Speaker 3: our quarterback, build up our young defense with our stud coordinator.
[16:45] Speaker 4: So what if the Chiefs.
[16:46] Speaker 3: Are their game plan this year is to be one
[16:49] Speaker 3: of the better rushing teams. Look at you know, the
[16:52] Speaker 3: Bills with Cook. Now Cook's a better player than Walker.
[16:55] Speaker 3: But what if the Chiefs are about to throw a
[16:57] Speaker 3: little curveball here and become a running offense.
[17:00] Speaker 2: Do you think Travis Kelcey signs with them or somebody else?
[17:03] Speaker 3: Well, I thought he was gonna go to the Giants,
[17:04] Speaker 3: and then they signed likely and that's not happening. I mean,
[17:07] Speaker 3: by all accounts, maybe they're just as a tie that
[17:10] Speaker 3: I undervalue a little bit. This is a unique player
[17:14] Speaker 3: with a unique connection to Andy and the Chiefs and
[17:17] Speaker 3: for the right price. I mean, at this point in time,
[17:19] Speaker 3: he's so wealthy on and off the field that maybe
[17:23] Speaker 3: he's just cool with Like, hey man, I understand, I'm
[17:25] Speaker 3: not a fifteen million dollar a year player anymore. Could
[17:27] Speaker 3: we go like five and incentivize that up if I
[17:30] Speaker 3: give you ten touchdowns? But this is where I want
[17:32] Speaker 3: to be. These are my people which I value. I
[17:35] Speaker 3: think I do understand from a player standpoint of seeing
[17:39] Speaker 3: some you know, Kobe Bryant types, like this is the
[17:41] Speaker 3: only franchise I ever played with, even though historically that's
[17:44] Speaker 3: not really how the NFL works. So I am a
[17:47] Speaker 3: little surprised if it does work out. But I think
[17:49] Speaker 3: the reason that we haven't seen it yet is the
[17:51] Speaker 3: Chiefs aren't just gonna well, Travis, here's the check. You
[17:55] Speaker 3: fill it in, like those days are kind of over
[17:57] Speaker 3: because he wasn't great last year. I mean the drops,
[18:02] Speaker 3: he definitely looked his aim. So I think he got
[18:05] Speaker 3: to be very careful, and Andy has been over the
[18:08] Speaker 3: course of his career of kind of you know, separating
[18:12] Speaker 3: the emotional connection to the human in the past, right,
[18:15] Speaker 3: But this might just be a really tough one given
[18:17] Speaker 3: that I mean, Andy says, well, I might owe some
[18:20] Speaker 3: Super Bowls to this guy, right, I mean he's so
[18:23] Speaker 3: I do. Listen, We're all human beings. So this is
[18:27] Speaker 3: probably really tough internally for Veach and Andy. This is
[18:30] Speaker 3: most players they'd say, hey, see, godspeed, good luck at
[18:33] Speaker 3: what you can because this is this is a little
[18:36] Speaker 3: abnormal to what good teams do in the NFL. Right,
[18:39] Speaker 3: But maybe there is just a connection that unless you
[18:43] Speaker 3: really in that building with these guys every day, that
[18:45] Speaker 3: I even undervalue from the outside.

[19:54] Speaker 2: Gambling problem called one eight hundred Gambler Arizona, Colorado, Illinois,
[19:57] Speaker 2: New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia. So Alex Pearce one of
[20:07] Speaker 2: the moves I think Alex Pearce is. Alex Pearce is
[20:10] Speaker 2: very good out of Cincinnati. Twenty nine million a year
[20:12] Speaker 2: is a lot for him. Jeez, that's a little steep
[20:16] Speaker 2: and the Sauce Gardener. Two first round picks for Sauce Gardner.
[20:20] Speaker 2: People thought that was too much. So suddenly Chris Ballard
[20:23] Speaker 2: is hyper aggressive. The Steelers get Michael Pittman, which they
[20:27] Speaker 2: needed a number two receiver. You know what that feels
[20:29] Speaker 2: like to me, the Michael Pittman of the Steelers from
[20:30] Speaker 2: the Colts. First of all, it frees up room for Pierce,
[20:33] Speaker 2: who's a better downfield receiver. I think he's a faster guy.
[20:36] Speaker 2: Pittman's a big, strong Pittman almost felt like a great two.
[20:38] Speaker 2: Pierce feels like a middle one. I mean, that's my
[20:41] Speaker 2: interpretation that they really like Pierce and he can really move.
[20:47] Speaker 2: Pittman's a very tough, durable you know, his dad was
[20:50] Speaker 2: a running back for Tampa. Pittman was a great player
[20:53] Speaker 2: at USC, tough, motivated, self starter. Always liked him. But
[20:57] Speaker 2: that feels like a Mike McCarthy bang the table. So
[21:00] Speaker 2: the Steeters are paying Dk metcalf and Michael Pittman. Suddenly
[21:04] Speaker 2: Pittsburgh now is got an offensive staff that you've heard
[21:08] Speaker 2: of them before. Now they've got two expensive wide receivers.
[21:11] Speaker 2: I don't know, it feels like that's a Mike McCarthy
[21:13] Speaker 2: bang the table move that Pittsburgh has been the highest
[21:17] Speaker 2: spending defense for I think four years in a row,
[21:20] Speaker 2: and I've argued for years, just move your money to offense.
[21:24] Speaker 2: That's what teams like the Rams are doing. So Pittman
[21:27] Speaker 2: to the Steeters. To me, it's sort of a changing
[21:31] Speaker 2: of the not only the guard, but changing of the
[21:34] Speaker 2: tide where they're moving offensive money.
[21:37] Speaker 3: I'm with you on Pittman, like you have folden since
[21:40] Speaker 3: usc feels like a mature version of Juju, just that
[21:44] Speaker 3: physical nature. I had a scout in kind of a
[21:47] Speaker 3: personnel executive last year that thought he regressed a little bit.
[21:50] Speaker 3: Look at it. In twenty two and twenty three he
[21:53] Speaker 3: was ninety nine catches and one hundred and nine catches.
[21:55] Speaker 3: I mean he had become a big time player. And
[21:58] Speaker 3: then last year he was banged up. But also so
[22:00] Speaker 3: you saw the emergence of Tyler Warren. They draft him.
[22:02] Speaker 3: Alt Pierce shot like a rocket ship. Obviously, Jonathan Taylor's
[22:06] Speaker 3: an excellent guy, and he I don't want to say
[22:09] Speaker 3: phased out because he was still productive in the games
[22:11] Speaker 3: he played, but it was like, we don't need We're
[22:14] Speaker 3: gonna go with Pierce's speed and Tyler Warren. Now again
[22:20] Speaker 3: for the Steelers, you don't have a quarterback, so I
[22:24] Speaker 3: get building up your team. But who's throwing these two
[22:26] Speaker 3: guys the ball?
[22:28] Speaker 2: Does this tell us that Aaron Rodgers is coming back?
[22:30] Speaker 2: Because Aaron doesn't like dealing. Brady didn't either. Aaron doesn't
[22:33] Speaker 2: like young receivers. That's not Aaron's jam. So is this
[22:37] Speaker 2: telling you that behind the scenes, Aaron said all come back,
[22:40] Speaker 2: so they get him. DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Friarmouth feels
[22:43] Speaker 2: like a veteran now and all of a sudden you're like, okay,
[22:47] Speaker 2: that's an offense that Aaron can navigate.
[22:49] Speaker 3: And the big tight end that broke his leg last
[22:51] Speaker 3: late in the season from Washington, like, they have some
[22:54] Speaker 3: real pieces. Now they're running back positions a major question mark.
[22:57] Speaker 3: I think Gainwell went to the Bucks saw the kid
[23:01] Speaker 3: they drafted from Iowa in the third round was a disaster, right,
[23:06] Speaker 3: So to me, that position is gonna be key for them.
[23:08] Speaker 3: Maybe they could draft the backup from Notre Dame or
[23:11] Speaker 3: something and get, you know, a real running back. But
[23:13] Speaker 3: if you don't have a quarterback, I don't care if
[23:15] Speaker 3: you got Jerry Rice and Randy Moss out there because
[23:17] Speaker 3: Pittman and DK are that you got a real one
[23:20] Speaker 3: to two wide receiver now where it ranks in the league,
[23:22] Speaker 3: But those are real NFL veteran wide receiver.
[23:25] Speaker 4: Physical wide receiver win.
[23:27] Speaker 3: Some big games within the cold. But to me, it's
[23:30] Speaker 3: it just comes down to the quarterback position. So does
[23:33] Speaker 3: Aaron come back with McCarthy? Is that what you feel like?
[23:37] Speaker 3: If you were a betting man, would he say, Aaron
[23:39] Speaker 3: Rodgers back this this thing?
[23:41] Speaker 2: I would because I think he he said twice he's
[23:43] Speaker 2: been quoted saying I had a great time and I
[23:46] Speaker 2: will defend Aaron Rodgers. You know, I think he's been
[23:50] Speaker 2: prickly and moody, and I've got I had three different
[23:53] Speaker 2: packers at one point. Say you never knew what kind
[23:56] Speaker 2: of moody was shown up with. I think that's pretty clear.
[23:58] Speaker 2: I thought he was excellent last year. He got dinged
[24:00] Speaker 2: by PFF because he didn't throw the ball down the field. Well,
[24:03] Speaker 2: they didn't have downfield receivers, And I mean, to me,
[24:06] Speaker 2: they're a they're a tight end. I mean Pittman, DK, Washington, Friarmouth,
[24:12] Speaker 2: Jalen Warren, I mean kind of a power team.
[24:15] Speaker 4: So and Aaron.
[24:16] Speaker 2: By the way, they were atrocious in the red zone
[24:18] Speaker 2: before Aaron, they were pretty good in the red zone.
[24:20] Speaker 3: Last year.
[24:21] Speaker 2: They cut down on interceptions, they cut down on penalties.
[24:24] Speaker 2: So I mean, I thought Aaron played the hand he
[24:27] Speaker 2: was dealt. It was not a very good receiving core.
[24:29] Speaker 2: Late in the year, DK metcalf missus two games because
[24:32] Speaker 2: of the incident with a Lions fan. I mean, they
[24:34] Speaker 2: have nobody to throw to. So I think I think
[24:38] Speaker 2: Pittman tells me a veteran receiver tells me that there's
[24:42] Speaker 2: a better than fifty percent chance that Aaron has told them. Listen,
[24:46] Speaker 2: I'm gonna come back. So there and they're and Aaron's
[24:48] Speaker 2: watching all this. And if you're Aaron watching this and
[24:51] Speaker 2: you're pretty sure you're coming back, does this motivate you
[24:54] Speaker 2: to come back?
[24:55] Speaker 4: That's a pretty good signing.
[24:56] Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, I listen if he does. I have he
[25:00] Speaker 3: not that I didn't respect. To me, he's one of
[25:02] Speaker 3: the greatest players I've ever watched, But to play through
[25:04] Speaker 3: a broken hand like he did last year was on
[25:08] Speaker 3: a team that was pretty average, right, And if you
[25:11] Speaker 3: look at the course of the last couple of years,
[25:12] Speaker 3: the torn achilles, the broken hand like age is kind
[25:15] Speaker 3: of catching up to him. So if he does come
[25:17] Speaker 3: back after dealing with some of these injuries on a
[25:19] Speaker 3: team that, I mean ultimately was the Steeler ceiling next year,
[25:22] Speaker 3: it's kind of the same thing. Maybe compete to be
[25:25] Speaker 3: a nine to ten win team. You just got to
[25:28] Speaker 3: say the guy just loves playing football because he's not
[25:29] Speaker 3: doing it for the money at this point in time.
[25:31] Speaker 3: And it's not like he's got well he's playing on
[25:34] Speaker 3: the KD Warriors, right or the Steinbrener Yankees like this
[25:37] Speaker 3: isn't he doesn't have the best team even in his
[25:39] Speaker 3: own division. So if Joe Burrow just stays on the
[25:42] Speaker 3: field like it is going to be difficult for them
[25:44] Speaker 3: to be second in the division. So yeah, I mean,
[25:47] Speaker 3: I think McCarthy is better than he gets credit for.
[25:51] Speaker 3: The branding on him is just atrocious, right, I Mean,
[25:54] Speaker 3: we've talked about this. His resume next to John Harbaugh
[25:57] Speaker 3: is essentially the same thing.
[25:58] Speaker 2: We guy might he Mike Tomlin are very similar. The
[26:01] Speaker 2: difference is the league's an offensive league and he has
[26:04] Speaker 2: an offensive touch and Tomlin's a defensive guy. They're both
[26:07] Speaker 2: they're both motivators. They're both well liked by players. One's
[26:11] Speaker 2: an offensive guy. And if if i'm I'm trying to
[26:13] Speaker 2: split it up on who I like more. I thought
[26:15] Speaker 2: Tomlin's time, I.
[26:17] Speaker 4: Thought that he was.
[26:18] Speaker 2: I mean their offense was a wreck for seven years.
[26:21] Speaker 2: Aaron actually healed a lot of the wounds. So I
[26:23] Speaker 2: think I don't think McCarthy's he's more than capable. And
[26:28] Speaker 2: go look at Cooper Rush and Dak both highly productive. Okay,
[26:32] Speaker 2: so you know one of the things that jumps out
[26:35] Speaker 2: to me between Mike Evan to the Niners, uh Rashawn
[26:39] Speaker 2: Gary to Dallas de Mario Davis, who's like his older
[26:44] Speaker 2: player goes back to the Jets, very very good player,
[26:47] Speaker 2: two year deal, twenty two million bucks. I think he's
[26:49] Speaker 2: a tremendous player, but he's an older player. Michael Pittman
[26:53] Speaker 2: an older player. Is he regressing it? You know what
[26:57] Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker had injuries, Kansas City rule the dice. Maybe
[27:02] Speaker 2: it's because the gambling money and the TV money, people
[27:05] Speaker 2: just have more led us to play with. But some
[27:08] Speaker 2: of these signings are older players regressing players, injured players.
[27:14] Speaker 2: I mean Lindabaum to me to the Raiders that is
[27:17] Speaker 2: an A plus signing Malik Willis could be, but we
[27:21] Speaker 2: don't know.
[27:22] Speaker 4: Alec Pierce.
[27:23] Speaker 2: I think they spent too much money, but again he's
[27:26] Speaker 2: in house. Chris loves him. With Daniel Jones, Warren, Jonathan Taylor,
[27:32] Speaker 2: I mean, not many teams in the league can say
[27:35] Speaker 2: back tight end number one receiver are better than the Colts.
[27:39] Speaker 2: I guess my kind of takeaway in this free agent
[27:42] Speaker 2: period is a lot of GMS if you liked the guy,
[27:46] Speaker 2: even if he was older, out of his prime, a
[27:49] Speaker 2: little dinged up, a lot of GMS just went for it.
[27:52] Speaker 2: It's aggressive GMing.
[27:54] Speaker 3: Well, the money has dramatically changed a short period of time.
[27:58] Speaker 3: I would just say in the last five years with
[28:00] Speaker 3: the cap space. So the old even you said Alex
[28:03] Speaker 3: Pierce twenty nine million, that's like the old sixteen million
[28:07] Speaker 3: Linderbob the center, he the highest paid center before him,
[28:11] Speaker 3: he got twenty seventy year was like seventeen eighteen million dollars.
[28:15] Speaker 3: So when you factor in the flush of new cap space,
[28:19] Speaker 3: the flush of money to these owners part of the
[28:22] Speaker 3: reason the NFL free agency, even in its early kind
[28:25] Speaker 3: of iterations back in the nineties and early two thousands,
[28:29] Speaker 3: half the owners didn't have cash on hand right alone,
[28:33] Speaker 3: so even the cap space. So like Jerry and Eddie
[28:36] Speaker 3: de Bartelow, you know the Packers when they signed Reggie White,
[28:39] Speaker 3: like there would be the occasional here and there, but
[28:42] Speaker 3: up until the last ten years, if the Bengals want,
[28:45] Speaker 3: they could break someone off. So I look at the Raiders.
[28:48] Speaker 3: His part of the reason JaMarcus Russell didn't play for
[28:51] Speaker 3: like the first four games his rookie season is because
[28:54] Speaker 3: Al didn't have the money to give him a signing bonus.
[28:56] Speaker 3: That is not nineteen eighty seven, that's like two thousand
[28:59] Speaker 3: and seven, Collin. So in a twenty year spent you
[29:01] Speaker 3: got the Raiders, Hey Center, sixty million guaranteed. I'm sure
[29:05] Speaker 3: with bonus is like thirty or forty million dollars. No
[29:07] Speaker 3: problem here you go. They just got rid of Geno Smith,
[29:09] Speaker 3: so they're taking a hit. They just gave him a
[29:11] Speaker 3: ton of money. So you have teams that didn't have
[29:14] Speaker 3: money now that have money, and then you have teams
[29:17] Speaker 3: like I also think it is difficult for some of
[29:19] Speaker 3: these gms, like John Schneider. They say he has a
[29:22] Speaker 3: bunch of money. He's probably looking around going like I
[29:25] Speaker 3: have a hard time paying premiums for non premium players
[29:29] Speaker 3: because ultimately, in free agency, you are paying a premium
[29:33] Speaker 3: on top of the rate. So if a guy is
[29:35] Speaker 3: a normally for you, if you if you were giving
[29:39] Speaker 3: him extension after a couple of years on your team,
[29:41] Speaker 3: he costs let's say fifteen million dollars, That guy on
[29:44] Speaker 3: the open market becomes twenty four million dollars. So now
[29:47] Speaker 3: if you get it right, look a look at last
[29:49] Speaker 3: year with the Patriots. They signed Milton Williams and people like, god,
[29:53] Speaker 3: they gave him twenty five million dollars. We're fantastic, He's
[29:56] Speaker 3: never even played fifty percent of the snaps and then
[29:58] Speaker 3: a year later you feel good about it. But there
[30:01] Speaker 3: are a lot of Milton Williams types. I would imagine
[30:03] Speaker 3: linder Bomb will be the same thing. Did the Raiders overpay,
[30:05] Speaker 3: Of course they did. They've made the playoffs twice in
[30:07] Speaker 3: twenty three years. You think people just want to come
[30:10] Speaker 3: to play for them. Yeah, this guy's coming from the Ravens,
[30:12] Speaker 3: So yeah, sometimes you have to overpay. You just better
[30:15] Speaker 3: overpay you don't even Milton Williams doesn't need to be
[30:17] Speaker 3: Reggie White or Aaron Donald. But if he is a
[30:20] Speaker 3: borderline pro bowler, full time starter for four years. You're going, yeah,
[30:25] Speaker 3: I overpaid a little who cares? So I think that's
[30:27] Speaker 3: what you got to be. That's why the Alex Pierce
[30:29] Speaker 3: Steele I thought Daniel Jones was going to derail them
[30:32] Speaker 3: and lose Alex Pearce, which would have been a problem.
[30:34] Speaker 3: So Chris Bower goes, yeah, I have to give him
[30:36] Speaker 3: a little bit more than I'm comfortable with. I know
[30:38] Speaker 3: this guy. I think he's a sending player, and we
[30:42] Speaker 3: feel comfortable already with him in the building, right. I
[30:44] Speaker 3: think they're way less comfortable with the Daniel Jones situation,
[30:48] Speaker 3: and like, is this gonna work? He's coming off the
[30:49] Speaker 3: Achilles how much? Eventually we're going to have to give
[30:51] Speaker 3: him than they are giving Alex Pierce. Probably more money
[30:55] Speaker 3: than you would want. But the receivers I would have
[30:58] Speaker 3: a hard time. Colin Justin Jefferson, Jamar ch Ceedee Lamb
[31:02] Speaker 3: a guy that's a no doubt about it, hall of
[31:03] Speaker 3: fame talent, but that next tier of guy. I saw
[31:06] Speaker 3: it with the Niners, with with Brandon Ayuk. It's like
[31:09] Speaker 3: you have to give these guys just a large sum
[31:13] Speaker 3: of money and they are just not near the number
[31:16] Speaker 3: one tier. So as long as you feel Alex Pearce
[31:18] Speaker 3: can keep maintaining and being explosive player, you can live
[31:21] Speaker 3: with him. But if you get it wrong, given the
[31:23] Speaker 3: amount of money you're paying a wide receiver, it could
[31:26] Speaker 3: blow up in your face pretty quick.
[31:28] Speaker 2: Let me throw another Raider move. This is very under
[31:32] Speaker 2: the radar between Tyler Linnerbaum getting moving off Max Crosby,
[31:38] Speaker 2: number one pick Fernando Mendoza. This signing will not get
[31:41] Speaker 2: a lot of play. But the Raiders signed former Viking
[31:44] Speaker 2: receiver Jalen Naylor, who I actually think. I think he's
[31:48] Speaker 2: a really interesting, like number two or three receiver. Now
[31:52] Speaker 2: they have Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison in Minnesota, so
[31:55] Speaker 2: they're going to move off him. I thought Jalen Naylor
[31:59] Speaker 2: was a nice player. I don't have Do you have
[32:02] Speaker 2: the numbers in front of you of what he's done. Yeah's,
[32:05] Speaker 2: Patriots and Broncos were all interested in him.
[32:08] Speaker 3: He hasn't been the most productive player because, like you said,
[32:10] Speaker 3: he's played there, so he's got twenty eight and twenty
[32:12] Speaker 3: nine balls in the last two years. But so basically
[32:15] Speaker 3: in sixty one oh way, that's what JJ McCarthy this year,
[32:19] Speaker 3: So fifty seven catches, Colin. He has ten touchdowns the
[32:22] Speaker 3: last two years, so's he's I felt like that when
[32:26] Speaker 3: you watched the Vikings explosive plays. Here's the other thing,
[32:29] Speaker 3: average yards per catch. His rookie year, he only had
[32:32] Speaker 3: caught nine catches, but he averaged twenty yards to catch
[32:34] Speaker 3: last couple of years. Basically fifteen yards a catch. Explosive
[32:37] Speaker 3: speed guy. Right, So maybe he's not. He'll get more
[32:42] Speaker 3: targets right with the Raiders. But even if he gives
[32:44] Speaker 3: you forty five to fifty catches with Fernando, you give
[32:47] Speaker 3: him a deep threat. I'm with Brock Bauers genty.
[32:50] Speaker 4: How about this.
[32:51] Speaker 2: Sean Payton wanted him, Josh McDaniels in New England wanted him,
[32:55] Speaker 2: and Clint Kobiak for the Raiders got him. Those are
[32:58] Speaker 2: pretty smart offensive guys. They all liked him.
[33:00] Speaker 3: Ran a four or five at the combine. Feels like
[33:03] Speaker 3: he plays a lot faster than that. Yeah, yeah, no,
[33:06] Speaker 3: I would have guessed like a high four to three guy,
[33:08] Speaker 3: low four to four guy.
[33:09] Speaker 2: So no, I can he that could be you know,
[33:12] Speaker 2: there's gonna be free agent signings that we that don't
[33:15] Speaker 2: get any play to me. I gotta tell you, John
[33:20] Speaker 2: Spytech with the Raiders, this is the first time in
[33:22] Speaker 2: twenty years I've been excited about the Raiders.
[33:25] Speaker 4: And they have a boat load of picks.
[33:30] Speaker 3: If they if they nail that fourteenth pick and just
[33:33] Speaker 3: get you know, a future core, you know, their version
[33:35] Speaker 3: of Patrick Kelsey, they could really change the franchise.
[33:41] Speaker 2: They could literally get Fernando Mendoza. And the fourteenth pick
[33:44] Speaker 2: is interesting. They could move off that and get Omar Cooper,
[33:49] Speaker 2: Fernando Mendoza's favorite receiver who's viewed as a late first
[33:53] Speaker 2: round receiver. They could move down and still get me.
[33:56] Speaker 2: How great would that be? You can tell? You can
[33:58] Speaker 2: tell right now the Raiders are trying to make and
[34:01] Speaker 2: this is what the Bears did and Ben Johnson. They're
[34:03] Speaker 2: trying to make Fernana Mendoza super comfortable, right. They want
[34:08] Speaker 2: that interior line to be good. They're going to draft
[34:11] Speaker 2: another receiver.
[34:13] Speaker 3: Boy.
[34:14] Speaker 4: I really like what the Raiders are doing.
[34:16] Speaker 3: Jesson. I think you could get I think you could
[34:19] Speaker 3: get Cooper. I talked to a lot of different coaches
[34:21] Speaker 3: and personnel people at the Talbot about him. He's an
[34:23] Speaker 3: interesting guy. You know, you could ask one guy like
[34:27] Speaker 3: I think he ends up in the late twenties. You
[34:28] Speaker 3: could ask another guy to think he's like the fiftieth pick.
[34:31] Speaker 3: If you were comfortable with doing that, I think you
[34:33] Speaker 3: could take him in the beginning of the second round
[34:35] Speaker 3: because you draft really high. To me, fourteenth pick. I
[34:38] Speaker 3: do think it's going to be harder this year to
[34:40] Speaker 3: trade with some of these picks because the draft is
[34:44] Speaker 3: viewed as not a lot of impact guys. Yeah, so
[34:47] Speaker 3: I I would try to get Cooper if that's who
[34:51] Speaker 3: I was going to take in the in the second
[34:52] Speaker 3: go round, then I would in the first round.
[34:55] Speaker 2: So, John, if you're a Bears fan, as they clean
[34:58] Speaker 2: up their defense, here some more good news. They played
[35:02] Speaker 2: the NFC South, which is a bit of a mess,
[35:05] Speaker 2: and the AFC East, So they're gonna get the Jets,
[35:11] Speaker 2: They're gonna get you know, Falcons, Saints, Carolina, Tampa. So
[35:17] Speaker 2: if you look at the Bear schedule, you look at
[35:20] Speaker 2: the Bears elevation free agency of defense, I'll stick with it.
[35:25] Speaker 2: It feels like a top five or six team going
[35:28] Speaker 2: into next year.
[35:29] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I Seattle and the Rams are gonna
[35:33] Speaker 3: be really good. But I would say, the rest of
[35:35] Speaker 3: the rest of the NFCT A lot of question marks
[35:38] Speaker 3: with the Eagles that they were one of the top seeds,
[35:41] Speaker 3: a lot of question marks internally in that division. So
[35:45] Speaker 3: you know, the NFC South, I might like the Saints
[35:47] Speaker 3: they signed etn They got this young quarterback who they like,
[35:51] Speaker 3: Tampa's gonna go through kind of you know, Mike Evans
[35:53] Speaker 3: was kind of important for Baker Mayfield, So I mean
[35:56] Speaker 3: you removed by habits that kind of matters now that
[36:00] Speaker 3: part of the NFL. Who they draft last year, the
[36:01] Speaker 3: Ohio state wide receiver, Like, you gotta let guys go.
[36:04] Speaker 3: Usually guys don't stay forever. Forty nine ers. They signed
[36:07] Speaker 3: Mike Evans, but they're gonna have older players coming off injuries.
[36:10] Speaker 3: I think they're they're gonna be solid. But you saw
[36:12] Speaker 3: them and the Bears this year playing a game that
[36:15] Speaker 3: was like seventy five to seventy one of the games
[36:18] Speaker 3: of the year. So yeah, I'm very Their coach is
[36:22] Speaker 3: a star. It just comes down to, you know, if
[36:24] Speaker 3: Caleb can just make an incremental improvement, Like at this
[36:28] Speaker 3: point in time, they don't need him to take some
[36:30] Speaker 3: huge jump, right, they just need maybe a five percent
[36:33] Speaker 3: seven percent improvement on basic things. Hit a wheel route
[36:37] Speaker 3: instead of overthrowing it, because that's the difference of punting
[36:40] Speaker 3: and keeping a drive alive that maybe leads to a
[36:42] Speaker 3: field goal and instead of having to come back, we
[36:44] Speaker 3: have a six point lead in the fourth quarter instead
[36:46] Speaker 3: of down three. So yeah, I'm really really high on
[36:50] Speaker 3: the Bears. I'm with you, polls. He's being a GM's hard,
[36:54] Speaker 3: you know, and being a GM for a dysfunctional franchise
[36:57] Speaker 3: is really difficult. Being a GM when your coach isn't
[36:59] Speaker 3: good is very diff Being a GM when your owners
[37:02] Speaker 3: a little cheap can be difficult. Over the last course
[37:06] Speaker 3: of what eighteen ish months, especially once Ben's got there,
[37:11] Speaker 3: they have been. They feel very on the same page
[37:14] Speaker 3: and rowan in the right direction, which is kind of
[37:17] Speaker 3: the NFL, where whatever the Jets are, the Bears feel
[37:20] Speaker 3: somewhat on the opposite end of the spectrum, and that's
[37:23] Speaker 3: the Raiders used to kind of be by the Jets.
[37:25] Speaker 3: They feel like they're heading towards the other smart teams.
[37:28] Speaker 3: So things change. It's hiring the right people, giving them
[37:32] Speaker 3: the resources to do the right things. I watched the
[37:35] Speaker 3: press conference when Halflee and the GM was hired one thing.
[37:40] Speaker 3: Halfley said over and over. Steven Ross, he said, he
[37:42] Speaker 3: just kept looking at me in the eye, said, you
[37:44] Speaker 3: will not lose for lack of resources here. You will
[37:47] Speaker 3: not lose because of the jetBook. We might make the
[37:49] Speaker 3: wrong moves, you coach poorly or signed the wrong guy,
[37:52] Speaker 3: but you will not ever lose because ah, my owner
[37:54] Speaker 3: wouldn't give the signing bonus. And now more and more
[37:57] Speaker 3: of those owners. If you get the Howie Roseman or
[38:00] Speaker 3: Less Sneed or John Schneider in that role, you're basically
[38:03] Speaker 3: guaranteed to be a double digit win team every year, right,
[38:05] Speaker 3: if you got the right GM with an owner cut
[38:07] Speaker 3: in the checks.
[38:09] Speaker 2: My takeaway today is Malik Willis for the Dolphins. He
[38:13] Speaker 2: is a totally different player. He may be smaller than
[38:17] Speaker 2: ideal height, but he's an electric athlete with a really
[38:21] Speaker 2: good arm and wildly dynamic offscript. And as you said,
[38:27] Speaker 2: you can inject him into games. He's not even scheduled
[38:29] Speaker 2: to play. I think Malik. Some people are saying, oh,
[38:32] Speaker 2: it feels you know a little undersize got That's not
[38:35] Speaker 2: Malik Willis. He is not to a if he had
[38:38] Speaker 2: a comp I'd argue I don't even know what his
[38:41] Speaker 2: comp a bigger Kyler Murray where it was a beautiful ball.
[38:45] Speaker 2: Kyler's got a good arm, Kyler moves, but Moleik is
[38:48] Speaker 2: really engaged.
[38:49] Speaker 4: They loved him in Green Band.
[38:51] Speaker 2: Your point on Hathley who watched him, coached against him
[38:54] Speaker 2: for two years and the assistant.
[38:57] Speaker 4: GM now in Miami. I think that's the best.
[39:00] Speaker 2: Point today made in the last thirty five minutes. Is
[39:03] Speaker 2: guys that knew him went all in on Malik Willis
[39:07] Speaker 2: from Green Bay to Miami.
[39:09] Speaker 3: I'll give you a comp to me, he's like at
[39:11] Speaker 3: twenty sixteen seventeen, big arm Dak Prescott because remember Dak
[39:14] Speaker 3: could move back then and Dak Dak could really move
[39:18] Speaker 3: remember and coming out of Mississippi State, So that to me,
[39:21] Speaker 3: it's some of the Malik Willis highlights on keepers watching,
[39:25] Speaker 3: I was like, damn, this guy you forget because we
[39:27] Speaker 3: get so removed from the football season. To me, his accuracy, honestly,
[39:31] Speaker 3: there are some parallels to Dak Prescott. Never in a
[39:34] Speaker 3: million years I watch Dak Prescott in Missipi State because
[39:36] Speaker 3: remember Dan Mullen was there. They were really good. I
[39:39] Speaker 3: never thought he'd be a good NFL quarterback. Some guys improved.
[39:42] Speaker 3: That's the thing about the NFL, not everyone's just ready
[39:44] Speaker 3: to go. This is you know, in the NBA, you
[39:46] Speaker 3: kind of know, like the three guys are gonna get
[39:48] Speaker 3: drafted really high, they're gonna be stars or high level guy.
[39:51] Speaker 3: In the NFL, how many times is like this fourth rounder,
[39:54] Speaker 3: the sixth rounder, All of a sudden, ten years later
[39:56] Speaker 3: it's Richard Truman or Jason Kelsey or George Kittle. It happened.
[39:59] Speaker 3: It happens with quarterbacks too, and now we're on this
[40:02] Speaker 3: quarterback renaissance of we have some high picks that resurrected
[40:05] Speaker 3: their career. But we have seen over the course of
[40:07] Speaker 3: the last more in my lifetime of these mid round picks,
[40:11] Speaker 3: from dak to Russell Wilson to Kirk Cousins go on
[40:14] Speaker 3: to make hundreds of millions of dollars in lead playoff
[40:17] Speaker 3: teams year after year. So to me, Malik Willis kind
[40:20] Speaker 3: of fits that high character. Smart. Now he's an accurate passer.
[40:24] Speaker 3: We know he can move. He's good. The other thing
[40:27] Speaker 3: is like, well, what kind offense he ran? I don't know,
[40:29] Speaker 3: he ran the Shanahan offense, you know, in hybrid version
[40:32] Speaker 3: for himself, in Green Bay, So it's not like he's
[40:35] Speaker 3: running some rinky Dean high school offense like this year
[40:38] Speaker 3: when he was thrown into that game against the Bears,
[40:40] Speaker 3: he just ran the Jordan Love offense and did excellence.
[40:43] Speaker 3: I remember watching thinking, is this really happening? He looks fantastic.
[40:47] Speaker 3: He looked so good in that game coming out of
[40:49] Speaker 3: the bullpen.
[40:50] Speaker 4: Oh we have Tacker.
