Colin’s joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” to break down the Sunday NFL slate. They begin the Rams throttling the 49ers, and argue that Matt Stafford is playing some of the best football of his career, and that the 49ers would be smart to hang onto Mac Jones who has proved his worth (3:15). They move to the Bears win over the Giants where the arm talent of Caleb Williams was on full display and Colin argues the best descriptor for Caleb is horsepower (10:00). They agree that Vikings quarterback J.J. looks like he’s in over his head after an awful showing in their loss to the Ravens (25:00) Colin argues that the Patriots clearly looked like the better team in their win over the Bucs and have a serious debate about whether the Pats are the best team in the AFC in Mike Vrabel’s first year (36:30). Colin highlights Josh Allen having tons of time to throw, but his receivers couldn’t get open in the Bills ugly loss to the Dolphins and that the Bills could be in trouble in the AFC East with the Patriots ascending (49:30) They point to the Seahawks incredible drafting in recent years leading to a dominating, talented roster and argue there isn’t a weakness on the team. They look ahead to their upcoming game against the Rams and pick the Seahawks (55:00). They move the Colts overtime win over the Falcons in Berlin and argue the Colts won despite Daniel Jones and they won by playing throwback, old-school football (1:05:15). Finally, they pivot to college football to talk about the incredible job Kalen DeBoer has done as head coach at Alabama in returning the Tide to their usual status as a powerhouse program (1:16:45). They also give kudos to Indiana and Oregon for their big wins (1:21:00). All lines provided by hardrock.bet (Timestamps may vary based on advertisements.) [1:00] Speaker 1: something's going on here, all right, We're ready for an
[1:08] Speaker 1: hour plus. John Middlecoff, former NFL scout, has his own
[1:12] Speaker 1: podcasts three and out. It is Sunday. There's a lot
[1:15] Speaker 1: to talk about. Listen, Let's let's start with a non
[1:17] Speaker 1: competitive game. Rams forty two, Niners twenty. It's just amazing.
[1:24] Speaker 1: The Rams are the least penalized team in the league.
[1:27] Speaker 1: No penalties in this This is one of those things
[1:31] Speaker 1: when I used to cover the Patriots, right I was
[1:34] Speaker 1: when I was on the East Coast. They went years
[1:38] Speaker 1: and I was always like, nobody fumbles for New England
[1:42] Speaker 1: and I used to tell friends, I'm like, is it
[1:44] Speaker 1: a stickham thing? People would field on the ball? An
[1:47] Speaker 1: they're well coached the Rams for the second year of
[1:50] Speaker 1: the least penalized team, you go into a heated rivalry game,
[1:54] Speaker 1: no penalties, no turnovers. My take is, obviously the Niners
[1:59] Speaker 1: were all banged up. It is so efficient. You can
[2:03] Speaker 1: see the coaching with the Rams. That's what I feel like.
[2:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the forty nine ers. Their defense is
[2:09] Speaker 2: a mass unit. But when you play a mass unit
[2:11] Speaker 2: and you're a good team, you score in every drive.
[2:12] Speaker 2: And that's essentially what the Rams did. And Stafford is
[2:17] Speaker 2: a dominant player right now. I mean, he's a legitimate
[2:20] Speaker 2: He's probably had some years. I have to really dive in,
[2:23] Speaker 2: but this feels like his highest level of play consistently
[2:26] Speaker 2: week in week out, especially when you factor in his age.
[2:29] Speaker 2: Remember McVeigh all offseason said, listen, we value what because
[2:34] Speaker 2: of our money situation, we are underpaying Matt Stafford and
[2:38] Speaker 2: we know it. They approach this offseason with him much
[2:41] Speaker 2: different than they did years ago with the golf situation.
[2:43] Speaker 2: They were just transparent about it. They're like, we know
[2:45] Speaker 2: we technically have to underpay him. We know he's better
[2:47] Speaker 2: than what we're he's maying forty million dollars a year.
[2:50] Speaker 2: I mean, Trevor Lawrence makes more than him, right, Tua
[2:53] Speaker 2: makes more than him, Perty makes more than him. So
[2:55] Speaker 2: he is Pukah is an incredible talent and and him
[3:00] Speaker 2: have that. He has like a Rogers level rapport with.
[3:03] Speaker 1: Him immediately immediately he had no training camp. I mean,
[3:07] Speaker 1: give me a break.
[3:08] Speaker 2: Yeah, well yeah, I forgot about that because the back
[3:10] Speaker 2: didn't work. So you try they are. It feels like
[3:14] Speaker 2: we're on a collision course right now. We're recording this
[3:16] Speaker 2: obviously before the Monday night game, so we'll see the
[3:18] Speaker 2: Eagles and the Packers. But I would say the Rams
[3:21] Speaker 2: in Seattle look like they're playing at a really high level.
[3:24] Speaker 2: The forty nine ers offense actually is playing at a
[3:26] Speaker 2: really high level. It's just defense that they're rolling out
[3:28] Speaker 2: me and you, and they got no chance to stop
[3:30] Speaker 2: a good team.
[3:31] Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say, if you looked at the box
[3:33] Speaker 1: score and didn't look at the score and watch the game,
[3:36] Speaker 1: Niners move the ball. I'll say this about Mac Jones.
[3:40] Speaker 1: You know, Mac Jones is a big, sturdy kid. I
[3:44] Speaker 1: think he throws a really nice ball. He's not super athletic,
[3:48] Speaker 1: but like I get when I watch him, like I
[3:50] Speaker 1: get why he was a great high school college and
[3:53] Speaker 1: a pro bowler. Like Mac throws a real ball. He
[3:56] Speaker 1: makes good decisions type spiral. You know, he moved out
[3:59] Speaker 1: and threw a touchdown pass, you know, scrambling to a
[4:03] Speaker 1: tight end. It's like I would have no problem as
[4:08] Speaker 1: a bridge quarterback for a couple of years going with
[4:11] Speaker 1: Mac Jones if I was an NFLGM or a coach.
[4:14] Speaker 1: He's one of the better bridge guys in a law
[4:16] Speaker 1: and to me.
[4:17] Speaker 2: In a while, yeah, I'd even argue he's probably better
[4:20] Speaker 2: than that. You know, like clearly you watch Sam Darnold,
[4:23] Speaker 2: his physical traits are that of a guy that was
[4:25] Speaker 2: drafted really high in any draft. Quarterback inflation are back
[4:29] Speaker 2: in the nineties. Mac doesn't have those physical attributes. But
[4:32] Speaker 2: he's an NFL starting quarterback. But he's on a two
[4:34] Speaker 2: year contract. Count did you see the clip with Brady
[4:38] Speaker 2: when they asked him on the pregame show about you
[4:40] Speaker 2: know Mac Jones and he said, well, once upon a time,
[4:43] Speaker 2: you know, you can't not go to Mac Jones the
[4:45] Speaker 2: way he's playing. And I found myself in a situation
[4:48] Speaker 2: a long time ago, and I look at me now,
[4:50] Speaker 2: I'm probably not here if I wasn't, and I just went.
[4:54] Speaker 2: I actually don't think it's that controversial to say Pretty's
[4:56] Speaker 2: tow doesn't work. He can't even dress for games. Mac
[5:00] Speaker 2: Jones is the quarterback for the entire season. Like, I
[5:03] Speaker 2: don't expect Perdy to play, and if he does, he'll
[5:06] Speaker 2: immediately just reinjure his toe. That's what happened lat That's
[5:09] Speaker 2: the injury he has. He's got a unique injury. It's
[5:12] Speaker 2: not one of those things that just heals. He's never
[5:14] Speaker 2: gonna be one hundred percent. So if he's compromised. Mac
[5:16] Speaker 2: Jones is keep playing to me. Mac Jones plays the
[5:18] Speaker 2: rest of the season. And you know, the crazy thing is, Colin,
[5:22] Speaker 2: we're not that far away from the Bears and the
[5:24] Speaker 2: forty nine. Ers play in about four or five weeks,
[5:28] Speaker 2: and that could potentially be for the seventh seed. Now
[5:31] Speaker 2: the Niners, they play the Cards, the Titans, the Browns.
[5:34] Speaker 2: Remember we talked about at the beginning of the season,
[5:36] Speaker 2: the Patriots and the Niners. There's the Bear schedule gets
[5:39] Speaker 2: a little more difficult, Packers a couple of times, the Steelers,
[5:42] Speaker 2: even the Vikings, I think next week in Minnesota, so
[5:45] Speaker 2: the Niners, but they all they play each other. So
[5:47] Speaker 2: if the Bears can just kind of hold serve, we
[5:49] Speaker 2: could have a pseudo, you know, December playoff game for
[5:52] Speaker 2: that seven seed Niners Bears, which would be pretty fun.
[5:55] Speaker 2: It'd be I'm also the Mac Jones thing. Let's say
[5:57] Speaker 2: you could trade him this offseason. I think he's too
[6:00] Speaker 2: valuable to the forty nine. He makes no money, He's
[6:02] Speaker 2: on a two year, seven million dollar contract, and perty is,
[6:05] Speaker 2: let's face it, he ripped up his arm. Granted that
[6:08] Speaker 2: was the last game of the season, but if that
[6:10] Speaker 2: happens in October. He missed the season this year. I mean,
[6:12] Speaker 2: what's he gonna end up playing two or three games.
[6:15] Speaker 2: Mac Jones value to the forty nine ers, I'd argue,
[6:17] Speaker 2: is more valuable unless you're getting like a first round pick,
[6:19] Speaker 2: which you're probably not. I'm not giving them away. I'm
[6:22] Speaker 2: just holding him for the next this year, next year
[6:24] Speaker 2: until perty proves that he can stay on the field.
[6:26] Speaker 1: Oh and the Niners will get calls on Matt Jones.
[6:29] Speaker 2: And they'll say and Kyle, Kyle's been open about it.
[6:33] Speaker 2: He wanted to take him, and then I think as
[6:35] Speaker 2: the process went on, he kind of went to the
[6:37] Speaker 2: guy with in quotes more upside. But there's no way
[6:40] Speaker 2: Kyle does like him. Now. You know he's well today,
[6:43] Speaker 2: he's just slink. He didn't have incompletions, I mean hitting
[6:46] Speaker 2: guys on the hill, and beside Kittle and McCaffrey, there's
[6:48] Speaker 2: a lot of DeMarcus Robinson's and Kendrick Bourne. He's not
[6:51] Speaker 2: throwing to Jerry Rice and John Taylor out there.
[6:53] Speaker 1: Colin no no, I mean I'm impressed with mac Jones.
[6:56] Speaker 1: And the other thing we saw in the late window
[6:59] Speaker 1: when Rawsters get depleted which they do November on elite
[7:05] Speaker 1: quarterbacks Golf Stafford and look at the way late window
[7:11] Speaker 1: Darnald blowout wins when you have a b quarterback and Mac,
[7:15] Speaker 1: I'm telling you max If Max a backup, he's the
[7:19] Speaker 1: best backup in the league. To me, he's a he's
[7:21] Speaker 1: a bridge or a franchise guy. And he struggled to
[7:25] Speaker 1: compete today. So what you saw in the late window,
[7:27] Speaker 1: this is something I've been on now for years. John.
[7:30] Speaker 1: The bottom of the NFL by November looks like the
[7:32] Speaker 1: bottom of the NBA. It's unwatchable because the league is
[7:35] Speaker 1: so quarterback dependent when if you don't have a star quarterback,
[7:40] Speaker 1: because everybody's I mean the Rams are lucky, they don't
[7:42] Speaker 1: get penalties, they don't get hurt. I mean, nobody's hurt,
[7:45] Speaker 1: Buy and large. Everybody's banged up right now. Everybody's dinged up.
[7:47] Speaker 1: The Packers are dinged up, the Niners are dinged up.
[7:50] Speaker 1: You know, it's just the way the league is. It
[7:53] Speaker 1: really helps to have a horse quarterback. And you saw
[7:56] Speaker 1: it today. So you know, Rams in a blowout win
[8:02] Speaker 1: forty to twenty six as we went on the air,
[8:04] Speaker 1: and that game wasn't quite done I want to talk
[8:08] Speaker 1: about the Bears for a second. So Chicago beats New
[8:11] Speaker 1: York twenty four to twenty and so it was Kayleb
[8:15] Speaker 1: Williams and Jackson Dart, and Jackson Dart out played him
[8:17] Speaker 1: for the first three quarters. But there is something I've
[8:21] Speaker 1: said this about Kayleb Williams multiple times. John he doesn't
[8:25] Speaker 1: get hurt and he doesn't throw interceptions. Jackson Dart gets
[8:29] Speaker 1: hurt a lot, and he'll throw picks. Now, Jackson, I
[8:31] Speaker 1: thought he plays with a ton of confidence. He throws
[8:33] Speaker 1: a nice ball. Jackson played really, really well. He had
[8:37] Speaker 1: a couple of touchdown runs. One was a twenty four
[8:39] Speaker 1: yard run. It was a big time run. Both those
[8:41] Speaker 1: quarterbacks can really way above average movement, way above average.
[8:45] Speaker 1: Now again, Caleb had a great fourth quarter. But when
[8:49] Speaker 1: I watched the game, and you have to watch the
[8:51] Speaker 1: whole game, there's becoming an issue with Jackson Dart. He's
[8:54] Speaker 1: blue tenttonent. He's getting banged up a lot. This is
[8:58] Speaker 1: my brock Purty thing. If you're a little smaller or
[9:01] Speaker 1: you play with a lot of confidence. Baker Mayfield used
[9:04] Speaker 1: to do that. First couple of years. He played with
[9:06] Speaker 1: more confidence than he should have. Somebody would pick him off.
[9:09] Speaker 1: He'd square them up. It's like, bro, you're a quarterback,
[9:12] Speaker 1: You're not a free safety. Would it worry you? The
[9:16] Speaker 1: Jackson Dart concussion today, the constant blue tent visits and
[9:21] Speaker 1: the injuries.
[9:22] Speaker 2: I think it worries me. With all these young quarterbacks,
[9:25] Speaker 2: they all have a style. You know, I would say
[9:27] Speaker 2: Caleb Williams style is the same thing. He's just built
[9:29] Speaker 2: more like a like a tank. They all scramble around
[9:32] Speaker 2: and run around. I mean, Jaden Daniels nowhere to be found.
[9:35] Speaker 2: Where did he get hurt running? You know? I mean
[9:37] Speaker 2: this is the new age. We watch football every Saturday
[9:40] Speaker 2: for four plus months and it's fantastic. But they're all
[9:44] Speaker 2: moving around. So back in the day, Peyton Manning, Tom
[9:47] Speaker 2: Brady one, all those guys are huge. The quarterbacks now
[9:50] Speaker 2: are smaller. I mean they're definitely smaller, but they move around.
[9:54] Speaker 2: To me, the Jackson Dart the play that he got
[9:57] Speaker 2: injured on, the one that he fumbled, it was like
[9:59] Speaker 2: a quarterback power which had worked earlier in the game.
[10:02] Speaker 2: So when you're calling those plays and the guy's name's
[10:05] Speaker 2: not Cam Newton, you know this is the NFL. You
[10:08] Speaker 2: know he got rocked by like three guys, and I
[10:12] Speaker 2: mean there were a lot of plays. The strength of
[10:14] Speaker 2: Caleb was on full display today. How many sacks did
[10:17] Speaker 2: you break out of? I actually think there's an element
[10:20] Speaker 2: that it's like, I'm not gonna sound critical, but he
[10:23] Speaker 2: almost throws too hard. There were so many balls that
[10:26] Speaker 2: were dropped by those guys throughout the game. It's probably
[10:29] Speaker 2: you know you're there, right, how cold is it in Chicago?
[10:31] Speaker 2: You probably can't feel your hands. The balls are probably
[10:33] Speaker 2: I bet some of those guys are gonna wake up
[10:35] Speaker 2: in the morning with sore hands. But on the balls
[10:38] Speaker 2: where Jackson Dart was completing him, it was more rollout lobs.
[10:41] Speaker 2: It's hard to complete. The Brett farv Farvest players used
[10:44] Speaker 2: to talk about this in Green Bay, like it is
[10:46] Speaker 2: hard to yes in December and November, and I just thought, like,
[10:51] Speaker 2: it's not that Rome is a bad player, but you
[10:53] Speaker 2: catch that. I would say Caleb Williams has right now
[10:57] Speaker 2: as strong of an arm as anyone. In the end,
[10:59] Speaker 2: he led a couple ripped today where you're just like,
[11:01] Speaker 2: that's Josh Allen, if not stronger, it was Jesus.
[11:04] Speaker 1: How about he rolled right?
[11:06] Speaker 2: I was impressed. I've been hard on him. I thought
[11:09] Speaker 2: I was impressed today with how he played in the
[11:11] Speaker 2: weather too.
[11:12] Speaker 1: He rolled right. He threw a ball to DJ Moore
[11:16] Speaker 1: in the end zone. He caught it, but he was
[11:17] Speaker 1: out of bounds. John. It was forty yards. I swear
[11:21] Speaker 1: to god. It was a line drive to left field.
[11:23] Speaker 1: It was about as high as the shortstop. It was
[11:25] Speaker 1: a freaking rope in a windy, cold environment, and DJ Moore,
[11:29] Speaker 1: to his credit, caught it, but it was out of bounds.
[11:31] Speaker 1: His the word I always use with Caleb, and I'd
[11:34] Speaker 1: never used it with any quarterback for is just horsepower.
[11:36] Speaker 1: He is a V eight. I mean it is he is.
[11:38] Speaker 1: And here's the air thing. The knock on him Caleb
[11:42] Speaker 1: is he holds the ball too long. But I was
[11:44] Speaker 1: thinking about this today. He doesn't throw picks, so in
[11:48] Speaker 1: his mind is yeah, I'm gonna hold it longer than
[11:50] Speaker 1: other guys because my escapability outside of Lamar Jackson is
[11:54] Speaker 1: probably second best in the league. So first of all,
[11:57] Speaker 1: I'm stronger than Lamar Jackson. So if I do get hit,
[11:59] Speaker 1: I mean you can't if you're breaking like a younger
[12:03] Speaker 1: Russell Wissley, Yeah, or Big Ben where a defensive player
[12:08] Speaker 1: gets on his shoulder and he just brushes him off.
[12:11] Speaker 1: So I think a lot of him holding the ball
[12:13] Speaker 1: is I just trust that I'm going to escape. And
[12:17] Speaker 1: you know, I watched it a couple of times today.
[12:18] Speaker 1: When he had that big run down the sideline, I'm like,
[12:21] Speaker 1: if he was a running back, you wouldn't want to
[12:24] Speaker 1: size him up if you were a safety. I mean,
[12:26] Speaker 1: he's a big dude.
[12:27] Speaker 2: I remember we did this maybe like week two and one.
[12:30] Speaker 2: Thing that jumped out to me, you know, because last
[12:32] Speaker 2: year their games were just so I mean they had
[12:34] Speaker 2: what like a ten game losing streak. I mean, they
[12:36] Speaker 2: didn't matter bad. You watch him this year. He is
[12:39] Speaker 2: way more athletic than I think people thought coming out. Also,
[12:42] Speaker 2: you know, when you're judging him against Arizona and Arizona
[12:45] Speaker 2: State and Colorado right in college, you see him against
[12:48] Speaker 2: these NFL guys, He's running faster than them. Now. You know,
[12:52] Speaker 2: I'm not saying he's Lamar Jackson in the open field,
[12:54] Speaker 2: but he is way faster than I expected. Uh. I
[12:57] Speaker 2: thought he kind of won them the game down the
[12:59] Speaker 2: stretch day we did play after a huge play four,
[13:04] Speaker 2: it flipped when Dark gets hurt Russell Wilson, who is
[13:07] Speaker 2: just man, it's hard to come in in a game
[13:09] Speaker 2: where it's freezing cold, but god, he looks terrible.
[13:13] Speaker 1: So Caleb's fourth game winning drive in six weeks. And
[13:17] Speaker 1: my whole life, I have watched the Bears lose games
[13:22] Speaker 1: like they're winning. And this, by the way, it's different
[13:25] Speaker 1: Denver's winning. But the quarterback plays awful. The quarterback play
[13:30] Speaker 1: was Chicago's wildly dynamic. And and what's interesting, Caleb's gotten
[13:35] Speaker 1: better late in games. He may not be as well
[13:37] Speaker 1: good on the script that he was in the first
[13:40] Speaker 1: four weeks. Like now he's doing stuff on his own,
[13:43] Speaker 1: and I mean right now this season in the fourth day,
[13:48] Speaker 1: he had seventy seven yards passing, a passing touchdown, one
[13:51] Speaker 1: hundred and nine passer rating, fifty two yards rushing and
[13:54] Speaker 1: a rushing touchdown. Okay, and again that's not the script,
[13:59] Speaker 1: that's the the opposite of the script. Those were crucial
[14:02] Speaker 1: drives to win the game with a ton of pressure. Yeah,
[14:05] Speaker 1: I think I I think he's a hit. I listen,
[14:09] Speaker 1: winning games is today. I watched the Colts ough, God
[14:13] Speaker 1: drove me crazy. They won the game. This is that's
[14:17] Speaker 1: why with analytics. Sometimes I'm like, I'm gonna get points,
[14:20] Speaker 1: sometimes not the touchdown. I need to win the game
[14:22] Speaker 1: so we all keep our mortgage. Right.
[14:24] Speaker 2: Well, well, to me, the Bears game, if that had
[14:27] Speaker 2: been a probably it's probaborrity in Chicago. But let's say
[14:30] Speaker 2: it's a seventy five degree November early November game. You know,
[14:34] Speaker 2: perfect weather, let's even say like sixty. I mean, like, well,
[14:37] Speaker 2: the Giants are terrible when it's freezing cold. That makes
[14:40] Speaker 2: the game very difficult. I don't care who you're playing.
[14:43] Speaker 2: I'm sure you saw some of that Wisconsin. You know,
[14:45] Speaker 2: Washington game. I owe an Oregon game. It is hard
[14:48] Speaker 2: to play in those environments. No one can feel their hands,
[14:51] Speaker 2: hard to breathe. I have way more respect, Like I
[14:55] Speaker 2: don't judge scores. You know you're not gonna hit many
[14:58] Speaker 2: explosive plays in the passing game? What is all? What
[15:01] Speaker 2: you know if you go back and I saw it
[15:02] Speaker 2: firsthand because they played the Niners when Lafour got there
[15:05] Speaker 2: and they resurrected Rogers' career. They were playing these home
[15:08] Speaker 2: games in Green Bay. It's freezing cold, so your vaunted
[15:12] Speaker 2: pass attack does not work as well. And you know
[15:16] Speaker 2: University of Washington has one of the best wide receivers
[15:19] Speaker 2: in the league, one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
[15:21] Speaker 2: They could not operate. They have a great offense, it
[15:24] Speaker 2: doesn't function. Or you know, Oregon has NFL players everywhere,
[15:27] Speaker 2: they couldn't coach function. So it's like, I just go, hey,
[15:30] Speaker 2: if you got to win a game thirteen to ten,
[15:33] Speaker 2: I actually think and it's an awesome Listen, if you're
[15:35] Speaker 2: a Bears fan, you apologize that nobody about winning games.
[15:39] Speaker 2: After the last the Giants. This thing I defended probably
[15:43] Speaker 2: three or four weeks ago. I'm like, listen, he went
[15:46] Speaker 2: all in on this quarterback. He was right, right, I mean,
[15:49] Speaker 2: there is if you just pull GMS right now, I
[15:51] Speaker 2: think thirty two of them would take Jackson Dart over
[15:55] Speaker 2: cam Ward today. Now their careers aren't written, but today
[15:58] Speaker 2: Brian dabol was right about the quarterback he liked. Problem
[16:01] Speaker 2: is his team. I mean that's I think I read
[16:04] Speaker 2: the Day of stat that that's his fourth game in
[16:06] Speaker 2: which he had a second half lead of ten plus points,
[16:08] Speaker 2: and obviously he's had now multiple double digit leads in
[16:12] Speaker 2: the fourth quarter in which they employed I mean today
[16:15] Speaker 2: he kicked the field goal they had twelve men on
[16:16] Speaker 2: the field. But Russell's in the game, not Dart. He
[16:19] Speaker 2: declines the penalty and takes the points instead of just
[16:23] Speaker 2: getting the first down because and listen, I thought like, hey,
[16:25] Speaker 2: you don't want to risk fumbling. You're up twenty to ten.
[16:27] Speaker 2: How are the Bears going to score? But then it
[16:30] Speaker 2: bit him in the ass. And there were reports, you know,
[16:32] Speaker 2: local radio people have connections to ownership that said the
[16:36] Speaker 2: ownership was close after the Denver Bronco game. And this feels,
[16:40] Speaker 2: you know, you're up twenty to ten, you're cruising. Maybe
[16:43] Speaker 2: they give him a little break because darts in the tent.
[16:45] Speaker 2: But man's that's hard to it's hard to kind of
[16:49] Speaker 2: fend off the arrows, Colin, when you keep having these
[16:52] Speaker 2: devastating losses.
[16:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's nothing on these New York football teams. It's
[17:00] Speaker 1: just it's just a it's a football swamp. Like I
[17:04] Speaker 1: think people just go to drown in these places.
[17:06] Speaker 2: I think didn't have one hundred yards today total and
[17:09] Speaker 2: they won. Didn't total running, hand passing.
[17:12] Speaker 1: That's suck bad. All right. Today's show is brought to

[18:24] Speaker 1: nine with it. Gambling problem called one eight hundred. Gambler Arizona, Colorado, Illinois,
[18:28] Speaker 1: New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia. This week's Crunch Time performer,
[18:32] Speaker 1: brought to you by McDonald's New Buffalo Ranch Sauce, is
[18:35] Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor. Wow was he great? Went to Berlin, carried
[18:40] Speaker 1: the Colts on his back two hundred and forty four
[18:43] Speaker 1: rushing yards, three touchdowns, and the Colts wild come from
[18:48] Speaker 1: behind overtime went over the Falcons. Taylor's performance was satisfying,
[18:53] Speaker 1: just like the first bight of the Bacon Creamy Buffalo,
[18:55] Speaker 1: Ma Crispy, I may be too harsh here, Baltimore twenty seven,
[19:03] Speaker 1: Minnesota nineteen. This was one of my favorite picks of
[19:07] Speaker 1: the weekend Raven's third straight win. So I don't like
[19:15] Speaker 1: to bang on young quarterbacks. JJ McCarthy eight false starts
[19:21] Speaker 1: at home. You're the home team, not college team, You're
[19:24] Speaker 1: a pro team. Thirteen total penalties, so I went and
[19:27] Speaker 1: looked this up again. On the opening drive, he's very
[19:34] Speaker 1: good on opening drives. I'm not the first drive with
[19:38] Speaker 1: you know, Kevin O'Connell three of four, one hundred and
[19:41] Speaker 1: seventeen passer ratings, Viking score a touchdown. I watched it.
[19:44] Speaker 1: I'm like bus slick, but I said, as he did it,
[19:48] Speaker 1: I've seen this before. After the first drive, JJ McCarthy
[19:52] Speaker 1: seventeen of thirty eight. Okay, he's under fifty percent and
[19:57] Speaker 1: a forty five passer rating, So it's almost like a comedian.
[20:03] Speaker 1: You either make me laugh or you don't. When I
[20:05] Speaker 1: watch a franchise, quarteraback like, you either pick up first downs,
[20:09] Speaker 1: you have long drives, you make big touchdown throws, or
[20:11] Speaker 1: you don't. You can't try to convince me something is true.
[20:15] Speaker 1: If I go to watch a comedy show, you're either
[20:17] Speaker 1: funny or you're not. For forty five minutes, Bill Burd
[20:19] Speaker 1: makes me laugh almost every joke, Like, you can't convince
[20:23] Speaker 1: me of stuff. And I watched JJ McCarthy and I
[20:25] Speaker 1: didn't like him out of college, so I don't want
[20:27] Speaker 1: to do confirmation bias. But after those scripted drives, I
[20:32] Speaker 1: don't get it. I don't see it. He's not accurate.
[20:34] Speaker 1: Everything's a fastball. And they have good receivers and a
[20:39] Speaker 1: better than average offensive line and a solid running back
[20:42] Speaker 1: and a great offensive coach. I mean overall, today's twenty
[20:46] Speaker 1: of forty two. I mean, you can't win in this
[20:49] Speaker 1: lead like that.
[20:50] Speaker 2: You know, their biggest problem, too, is their star player,
[20:53] Speaker 2: Justin Jefferson, who they're paying a ton of money, who
[20:56] Speaker 2: is i'd say, widely considered throughout the league, a high level,
[20:59] Speaker 2: high character. I quit on them today. There was an
[21:02] Speaker 2: interception in which he threw, he just stopped, he didn't
[21:04] Speaker 2: even chase, And to me, like wide receivers, aren't your
[21:07] Speaker 2: leaders right? Their follow now Luckily he's the best follower,
[21:10] Speaker 2: but he knows. And then ironically the Seattle game start,
[21:15] Speaker 2: I didn't even I wasn't even on it yet because
[21:16] Speaker 2: it started at two o'clock. I look up Darnold's first pass.
[21:20] Speaker 2: It is like a fifty yard bomb hits JSN in
[21:22] Speaker 2: the hands. And if I'm Justin Jefferson, this is the
[21:25] Speaker 2: Larry Fitzgerald thing. You are so dependent on whoever that
[21:28] Speaker 2: guy is. And he's already had he had a good
[21:31] Speaker 2: Kirk Cousins. Last year, he had a guy throwing thirty
[21:33] Speaker 2: five touchdowns, who's gonna throw forty again? And now he
[21:36] Speaker 2: gets this. This kid's over his head. You know that
[21:39] Speaker 2: this is a situation that listen. It's not his career's
[21:42] Speaker 2: not written, you know, his second year in his career,
[21:45] Speaker 2: but twenty thirty years ago, this guy sitting for two
[21:48] Speaker 2: or three years. This guy's never touching the field. And
[21:51] Speaker 2: he's on the field on a team with a lot
[21:53] Speaker 2: of good players, a great coaching staff. I mean, their
[21:56] Speaker 2: defense was playing their ass off as long as they could.
[21:58] Speaker 2: But your quarterback, he threw two that even I think
[22:01] Speaker 2: Moose Johnson was calling the game, He's like, on one,
[22:04] Speaker 2: I don't even know what he's looking at there. You
[22:05] Speaker 2: cannot throw that ball that the two DB's Willie Mays
[22:09] Speaker 2: catch just right in their hands. They both led, they
[22:12] Speaker 2: both went the field goals. Now they ended up losing
[22:15] Speaker 2: by eight, and I think they had another like a
[22:17] Speaker 2: kickoff return they fumbled that they scored immediately. So turnovers
[22:20] Speaker 2: kill them. But two of them directly on JJ McCarthy
[22:24] Speaker 2: that are just basically acting as punts. And I just
[22:27] Speaker 2: think when you start losing high character guys on your team.
[22:32] Speaker 2: I don't really blame Jefferson here, like I can't battle
[22:35] Speaker 2: for this guy, you know, I don't think he's good enough,
[22:37] Speaker 2: and we saw it. I keep bringing this up because
[22:41] Speaker 2: I was around this team a lot. When you have
[22:45] Speaker 2: a team that views themselves as like a bunch of
[22:47] Speaker 2: pro bowlers that can compete, and the forty nine ers,
[22:50] Speaker 2: like their star players never bought in. It's not that
[22:53] Speaker 2: they're not nice, they don't like the guy personally, but
[22:56] Speaker 2: if you're not good enough, like this is a production
[22:58] Speaker 2: based business, it's pretty black white. You can either play
[23:01] Speaker 2: or you can't. The Bears are a good example of
[23:03] Speaker 2: like their standard's not that high, Like if they get
[23:06] Speaker 2: to eight or nine wins this year, that's a success.
[23:09] Speaker 2: The bike exists. Won fourteen and we're sixteen minutes away
[23:13] Speaker 2: from being the number one seed. Soessin, Jefferson goes, I
[23:16] Speaker 2: got this kid. We have to hold his hand. Who
[23:19] Speaker 2: cannot I mean, playing a real opponent at home, that
[23:22] Speaker 2: was the other thing. We're playing a real opponent at
[23:23] Speaker 2: home and a big underdog with this guy.
[23:25] Speaker 1: And John operationally eight false starts at home. That's like
[23:30] Speaker 1: a college quarterback playing at Georgia. Well, you're overwhelmed. You
[23:33] Speaker 1: can't hear. The whole thing is a mess. And you know,
[23:39] Speaker 1: it's one of those things where players talk to your
[23:42] Speaker 1: point earlier. They know what Donald's doing. Donald's been the
[23:45] Speaker 1: number one ranked PFF quarterback for like a month. I
[23:47] Speaker 1: mean I watched him today. He has the weirdest turnovers.
[23:50] Speaker 1: By the way the ball ricocheted off his tight ends
[23:52] Speaker 1: helmet for an interception. Donald has the weirdest turnovers in
[23:55] Speaker 1: the league. But you can't, you can't. And you know,
[24:01] Speaker 1: the thing about Baltimore is they was field goal, field goal,
[24:04] Speaker 1: field goal. But one of the things about Baltimore is
[24:08] Speaker 1: they just keep coming at you. That that team is
[24:10] Speaker 1: just kind of a relentless attack. I mean, God, remember
[24:12] Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago when they played the Bears
[24:14] Speaker 1: with Tyler Hontley the backup, and you're like, Jesus, this
[24:16] Speaker 1: is an incredible effort. Baltimore has got a culture that's
[24:19] Speaker 1: been built for years, and they even in that first
[24:22] Speaker 1: half when Brian floores, he's given him trouble. They just
[24:24] Speaker 1: can't quite move the chains. They just keep getting points
[24:27] Speaker 1: and points, and then all of a sudden you look up.
[24:29] Speaker 1: They blow. You know, a couple of big plays and
[24:31] Speaker 1: it's over. Yeah. I respect the Colts. They just moved
[24:36] Speaker 1: off Anthony Richardson. I respect Kyle Shanahan, he just moved
[24:40] Speaker 1: off Trey Lance. I think at the end of the
[24:43] Speaker 1: year you let him play the rest of the season.
[24:46] Speaker 1: Between the injuries and what I'm watching off the first
[24:49] Speaker 1: scripted drive, it just doesn't work.
[24:51] Speaker 2: You can't fool me, like you said with the comedian analogy,
[24:54] Speaker 2: like it's not even you just got to watch them
[24:57] Speaker 2: and as the game goes, he can make a good play,
[25:00] Speaker 2: and then he makes two horrendous plays and the interceptions
[25:04] Speaker 2: of just throwing yolo balls. The Ravens are healthy now
[25:07] Speaker 2: relative you know, beside the guys on an injury reserve.
[25:09] Speaker 2: So who are as two interceptions to Stark's first rounder
[25:13] Speaker 2: from Georgia. And Marlon Humphrey is one of the more
[25:15] Speaker 2: versatile dbs in the league. So it's like you're playing
[25:17] Speaker 2: those type guys. This is real. This is no longer
[25:20] Speaker 2: You're not getting Rutgers here on a Saturday at one o'clock.
[25:23] Speaker 2: This is Marlon Humphrey, mckaye Starks, John Harbaugh, Lamar Jackson.
[25:27] Speaker 2: They're fighting for their lives. Right, He's a team over
[25:30] Speaker 2: the last couple of years who has been They would say,
[25:32] Speaker 2: we just haven't figured out in the playoffs, but we
[25:34] Speaker 2: have been the chiefs equal, you know, one through seventeen
[25:37] Speaker 2: throughout the season, right, but we just we are better
[25:41] Speaker 2: than you. And there's no way this essentially a rookie quarterback.
[25:44] Speaker 2: And as the game went on. That's the one thing
[25:46] Speaker 2: with football, right, anyone that gambles knows this. You can't
[25:49] Speaker 2: get too excited after a quarter Let the game play out.
[25:52] Speaker 2: The cream usually rises, you know, the more pressure comes
[25:55] Speaker 2: on a quarterback. They keep bringing different looks and I
[25:59] Speaker 2: think the vice kings, listen, we all make decisions. Some
[26:02] Speaker 2: of them don't work. That's a pretty that's a decision
[26:05] Speaker 2: that's gonna be hard to live with for a while.
[26:07] Speaker 2: The Sam Darnold situation, because one thing, if like, hey,
[26:09] Speaker 2: the Seattle gave him two hundred million dollars, it would
[26:11] Speaker 2: have ruined a role. They gave him fifty five million
[26:13] Speaker 2: dollars guaranteed. And like you said, he's been one of,
[26:16] Speaker 2: if not the best, quart Like he's playing at a
[26:18] Speaker 2: level that's no different than good Mahomes, good Allen, like
[26:21] Speaker 2: he's an elite player. It's and now you got this
[26:25] Speaker 2: guy because you drafted him really high. Who's You're not
[26:28] Speaker 2: gonna make the playoffs this year? I mean, they got
[26:30] Speaker 2: a game I think this upcoming week, or maybe they're
[26:32] Speaker 2: on a I'm pretty sure they played this upcoming week
[26:34] Speaker 2: against the Bears. I mean that's you know, now the
[26:36] Speaker 2: Bears are gonna have a lot to play for because
[26:38] Speaker 2: early that's Week one kind of embarrassed them. They got
[26:41] Speaker 2: some momentum coming in. JJ's kind of out of point.
[26:45] Speaker 2: You've been talking about this. You kind of get till
[26:46] Speaker 2: Thanksgiving your second year. Now, I think they would say
[26:48] Speaker 2: he didn't get his first year, but like you think
[26:51] Speaker 2: they're just gonna roll it out again year three. That's
[26:53] Speaker 2: that's just not the way the league works. It's a
[26:55] Speaker 2: pet peeve of mine when people say, like no one
[26:58] Speaker 2: has any patience anymore. Well, yeah, the league in like
[27:01] Speaker 2: nineteen eighty seven, the teams were worth like one hundred
[27:03] Speaker 2: million dollars. They're now worth seven billion dollars. They're paying
[27:06] Speaker 2: people one hundred and fifty million dollars. Well, yes, patients
[27:09] Speaker 2: is shorter, welcome to twenty twenty five.
[27:11] Speaker 1: Well, the other thing John is, you shouldn't have as
[27:14] Speaker 1: much patience because these quarterbacks come in with ten thousand throws.
[27:18] Speaker 1: They have private coaches, the seven on seven camps. This
[27:21] Speaker 1: is not the Eli Manning era. This is the Arch
[27:23] Speaker 1: Manning era where you're making six million dollars in college
[27:26] Speaker 1: private coaching. Sometimes you fly private jet. You can get
[27:29] Speaker 1: places faster. So I've always said Thanksgiving, second year, I'm
[27:34] Speaker 1: going to my GM in the room and talent. It
[27:37] Speaker 1: used to be I want three full seasons. I'll give
[27:39] Speaker 1: you three full seasons unless you're just absolutely out of
[27:42] Speaker 1: your mind overmatched. So I don't have a problem with
[27:47] Speaker 1: And you also say, well he hasn't been healthy. That's
[27:49] Speaker 1: kind of a you problem. Like I had nothing against
[27:52] Speaker 1: brock Purty, but you know who was always healthy mostly
[27:55] Speaker 1: was Brady and Big Ben and Brett Favre. And those
[28:00] Speaker 1: guys are healthy because they're durable. You know, Caleb Williams
[28:04] Speaker 1: doesn't get hurt. He's big and strong. That's one of
[28:08] Speaker 1: the reasons, John, that traits matter, size matters, thickness matters.
[28:13] Speaker 1: I remember when Matt Ryan came out. I'm like, I
[28:15] Speaker 1: like everything about him. He looks like a four iron,
[28:17] Speaker 1: Like he just Now, Matt was one of those get
[28:20] Speaker 1: goff by the way, never gets hurt, has a thin frame. Dude.
[28:24] Speaker 1: It cal was raggalled three years. Never gets hurt. I'm
[28:28] Speaker 1: sorry JJ McCarthy struggled with injuries. And now for our
[28:32] Speaker 1: next segment, Whiskey Business. Yes, Whiskey Business, brought to you
[28:35] Speaker 1: by Green River Whiskey, the official whiskey of the Colin
[28:37] Speaker 1: Coward Podcast. Okay, New England twenty eight Tampa twenty three,
[28:42] Speaker 1: Tampa on a bye took a seven tozh in lead,
[28:45] Speaker 1: and that was about the only time you thought they
[28:47] Speaker 1: were the better team. So, I mean, it's really interesting.
[28:52] Speaker 1: I've been waiting for New England Trayvon Henderson to play more.
[28:58] Speaker 1: I loved him aout Ohio State today. A couple of
[29:01] Speaker 1: big runs. They have running back injuries and Mike Rabel
[29:04] Speaker 1: wants I think Rabel's a little bit like Belichick in
[29:07] Speaker 1: which is just because you're a great rookie or top pick,
[29:09] Speaker 1: you have to earn your way, You have to earn time,
[29:11] Speaker 1: and if you don't block, if you don't pass block
[29:14] Speaker 1: particularly well. A lot of these NFL coaches, John, they
[29:16] Speaker 1: don't care where you're drafted. As a running back, like,
[29:18] Speaker 1: they won't play until you can block late Corum. Last
[29:20] Speaker 1: year they won't play it. So Travon Henderson, who I
[29:23] Speaker 1: thought was a pretty good blocker out of Ohio State,
[29:25] Speaker 1: he got some carries today. Holy shit, boy, he is
[29:28] Speaker 1: he is? He pops. The other thing that I watched
[29:34] Speaker 1: with New England Williams, the young receiver, the complete burner.
[29:38] Speaker 1: Remember remember him, Washington State?
[29:40] Speaker 2: Yep, he.
[29:43] Speaker 1: Was a blur on TV. But you know what I
[29:46] Speaker 1: noticed in this game. This just may be me, but
[29:49] Speaker 1: it was almost like Drake May was in Baker's head.
[29:52] Speaker 1: Like Baker has a lot of confidence, and Drake May
[29:55] Speaker 1: is just making plays and he's making big throws. And
[29:58] Speaker 1: they take a lea and it's in Tampa and it's
[30:01] Speaker 1: Baker's house, and Baker was like running more than he
[30:04] Speaker 1: should run. He was he was. Baker was doing a
[30:08] Speaker 1: little too much to me, running around in the pocket
[30:12] Speaker 1: looking for the big play downfield. Now, Tampa's a big playoffense.
[30:16] Speaker 1: But you I mean, watching that game, watching Drake May,
[30:21] Speaker 1: I kept asking myself, is New England the best team
[30:24] Speaker 1: in the AFC? Certainly?
[30:26] Speaker 2: Well, I mean when they're in first place in their division,
[30:28] Speaker 2: you know, with the Bills, who last week we thought
[30:31] Speaker 2: could win the Super Bowl, and it turns out they
[30:33] Speaker 2: just play up for Kansas City and then down to
[30:35] Speaker 2: whoever else they're play. I mean, they got curb stomped
[30:37] Speaker 2: today today. It was a big swing in that in
[30:39] Speaker 2: that division. And like you said, I think the knock
[30:43] Speaker 2: that people had on New England was they're just not
[30:45] Speaker 2: gonna have enough speed and skill guys on offense. I
[30:48] Speaker 2: did the same thing and I just looked up when
[30:51] Speaker 2: you were talking. Kyle Williams ran a four to four
[30:53] Speaker 2: to zero with the combine. You know, Henderson ran a
[30:55] Speaker 2: four to four to three. It feels like when he's
[30:57] Speaker 2: in the open field he plays faster. So you got
[30:59] Speaker 2: two young players who what I think Henderson had a
[31:03] Speaker 2: fifty five yard run today and a seventy yard runing
[31:05] Speaker 2: Kyle Williams, and he is.
[31:07] Speaker 1: A big, fast athlete.
[31:11] Speaker 2: I do think Tampa has been a little house of
[31:13] Speaker 2: cards right They have a bunch of injuries right now.
[31:16] Speaker 2: They're just not quite the same thing, same team. Mike
[31:19] Speaker 2: Evans is there's an element to him of like the
[31:22] Speaker 2: heartbeat of their offense. When he's in there, he just
[31:25] Speaker 2: gives them a safety net He's almost like what George
[31:27] Speaker 2: Kittle is the forty nine ers. Now he's gone. I
[31:30] Speaker 2: mean they're depending on young wide receivers. I just think
[31:33] Speaker 2: Baker feels like I have to carry us. It almost
[31:36] Speaker 2: feels like a throwback to a couple of years ago,
[31:38] Speaker 2: and he's kind of had to do that all season, right,
[31:40] Speaker 2: I mean they started when they start four and oh,
[31:42] Speaker 2: it's all the comeback touchdown drives. I thought the bigger
[31:46] Speaker 2: if they could get Henderson going with Kyle Williams. What
[31:49] Speaker 2: a stud Mike Vrable is. I mean, this guy's got
[31:52] Speaker 2: a harbought touch, comes in there immediately. I understand their
[31:55] Speaker 2: schedule has been easy, but when you watch him play,
[31:57] Speaker 2: it's not like they're just easing into these victories like
[32:00] Speaker 2: that was. We're in control. We have some young, explosive players,
[32:03] Speaker 2: and we have turned this quarterback immediately into an MVP candidate.
[32:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, it felt like the Buffalo game. You're like, oh,
[32:09] Speaker 1: New England's better than Buffalo. Like New England after Baker
[32:12] Speaker 1: hit Mecha Abuka, you're like, oh, seven to nothing in Tampa.
[32:15] Speaker 1: From that point on, New England was the better football team.
[32:17] Speaker 1: Control the game.
[32:18] Speaker 2: I've known Sean for a long time, and I like him,
[32:21] Speaker 2: and I know a lot of people I think yourself
[32:23] Speaker 2: included just over the time, like is this guy good
[32:25] Speaker 2: enough for Josh Allen? Today was a moment where you're like,
[32:29] Speaker 2: is this guy better than Mike Vrabel? Moving forward? And
[32:31] Speaker 2: is in this safe situation where is Sean McDermott if
[32:36] Speaker 2: they are a one and done team and all of
[32:38] Speaker 2: a sudden Mike Vrabel's in the second round or somehow
[32:41] Speaker 2: is in the third round playing the Chiefs or something.
[32:43] Speaker 2: Is this going to end the Bills coaches tenuere because
[32:46] Speaker 2: of Mike Vrabel? He might be that powerful?
[32:49] Speaker 1: Well, I think about it, like Kyle Williams. They haven't
[32:52] Speaker 1: played him. I mean that's been one of the things everybody,
[32:54] Speaker 1: myself included. Kyle Williams is your fastest, most dynamic receiver.
[32:58] Speaker 1: He got a ball down the sideline today. It looked
[33:01] Speaker 1: like a track meet. It looked like the combine run.
[33:03] Speaker 1: You're like, holy sh he was good and then gone.
[33:06] Speaker 1: So the thing is, you're a Patriot fan, is Williams
[33:11] Speaker 1: and Trevon Henderson they're just now playing regularly. So it's
[33:15] Speaker 1: like you know and and Rabel. You know Kyle Williams
[33:18] Speaker 1: may not want to block. He's kind of a thin guy.
[33:20] Speaker 1: He may not be a blocker. One of the reads.
[33:23] Speaker 1: You hear this all the time, like tight ends have
[33:25] Speaker 1: to block. Receivers don't, especially the fast ones and running backs,
[33:31] Speaker 1: the gifted ones. So you know, I bet you that
[33:34] Speaker 1: some of this with Rabel is listen, you're we're not
[33:37] Speaker 1: putting you back there by Drake May If you aren't picking,
[33:39] Speaker 1: you know, you're not stopping people in the a gap,
[33:42] Speaker 1: Like we're just stop putting on the field because his
[33:44] Speaker 1: talents so remarkable. He just pops when you give him
[33:47] Speaker 1: the ball. And I just watched them today. I'm like, oh,
[33:50] Speaker 1: wait a minute, we haven't seen the best of New
[33:52] Speaker 1: England because these two players change the offense.
[33:55] Speaker 2: I think defensive coaches tend to be like, uh, you
[33:58] Speaker 2: know parents from the fifty sixties, you know, kind of
[34:01] Speaker 2: driving a hard line, right, you know, most offensive coaches
[34:07] Speaker 2: if this guy, if those two guys had been around
[34:09] Speaker 2: Kevin O'Connell, Sean McVeigh, Kyle shanahan, more than likely some
[34:13] Speaker 2: of their deficiencies might have still got them some packages.
[34:17] Speaker 2: Defensive guys do not care they have and it's it's
[34:20] Speaker 2: always the tug and pull between offensive and defensive guys
[34:23] Speaker 2: when they're on the same staff. You know, when one
[34:25] Speaker 2: guy's a head coach, I think offensive coaches and you've
[34:28] Speaker 2: known some over the years, I'm sure that have complained
[34:30] Speaker 2: about their defensive head coach vice versa. I think the
[34:33] Speaker 2: defensive head coach sometimes wants them to be a little
[34:35] Speaker 2: more conservative. There's always kind of a little tuggle war there.
[34:38] Speaker 2: But I think when you have guys, you know what
[34:42] Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel does, You know, he does feel a little
[34:45] Speaker 2: like he's got the old school hard ass and BELICHICKI
[34:47] Speaker 2: into him, but he also feels kind of like new
[34:50] Speaker 2: and relevant. The way the guys like him, the way
[34:52] Speaker 2: he's hugging up guys, He's kind of got this perfect blend.
[34:56] Speaker 2: He just feels pretty damn good. And this team was
[34:59] Speaker 2: so bad, not just last year with girod Mail, for
[35:02] Speaker 2: the last couple of years of Belichick. I mean, this
[35:04] Speaker 2: team wasn't like a one year train wreck. It felt
[35:07] Speaker 2: like they had about what like thirty six months of
[35:10] Speaker 2: being like the butt of the league, Like from a
[35:13] Speaker 2: joke standpoint, So what he has done from a culture standpoint,
[35:16] Speaker 2: let alone on the field. I mean Drake May went
[35:19] Speaker 2: from like, hey, he's got some talent. Holy shit, this guy.
[35:21] Speaker 1: A pro bowler hit by the way, and today Drake
[35:24] Speaker 1: wasn't seventy five percent completion. Todd Bowles is one of
[35:27] Speaker 1: the smartest defensive guys in the league. He and Brian
[35:29] Speaker 1: Flories dial up some of the nastiest plitzes. And Tampa
[35:32] Speaker 1: was on a buy. That was a hard spot for
[35:36] Speaker 1: Drake May. That was a that's I took Tampa today.
[35:39] Speaker 1: It's the one game I lost. I thought on off
[35:43] Speaker 1: of buy. Second year quarterback Todd Bowles Vida Villa, you
[35:47] Speaker 1: won't be able to run. I'm like, oh, it's gonna
[35:49] Speaker 1: be a problem. This is a rough spot. And Drake
[35:50] Speaker 1: didn't play his best game. I think he had a
[35:53] Speaker 1: pick at one point and wrote it and wrote it
[35:55] Speaker 1: down and not a great pick. But it's like, listen, hardball,
[35:59] Speaker 1: Sean Peyton, Mike Frable, just pay eighteen million bucks and
[36:03] Speaker 1: get the right coach, don't don't Brian Schottenheimer and he
[36:06] Speaker 1: just just go you know when these everybody wants to
[36:08] Speaker 1: go with coordinators. And don't get me wrong, Ben Johnson
[36:11] Speaker 1: or Shane Steike and were so respected throughout the league
[36:13] Speaker 1: and had done so well as coordinate. I mean we
[36:16] Speaker 1: used to on a regular basis every week talk about
[36:19] Speaker 1: Ben Johnson when he was with the Lions. We're like,
[36:21] Speaker 1: who is this guy? This offense is crazy. Shane Steiken
[36:25] Speaker 1: first year had Herbert out of college. I mean, Tom
[36:28] Speaker 1: tellsko is like at maybe the smartest offensive coach I've
[36:31] Speaker 1: ever been around. So there are some coordinators that come in.
[36:35] Speaker 1: I mean, we know what Stikeen did with Philadelphia. We
[36:38] Speaker 1: took over to play calling and Philadelphia went from meh
[36:40] Speaker 1: to super Bowl. But by and large, you know, there's
[36:44] Speaker 1: only a few guarantees in the league, and one of
[36:46] Speaker 1: them is you go get these successful coaches. I've said
[36:48] Speaker 1: this with Mike McCarthy, and I don't think he's nearly
[36:50] Speaker 1: as good as Peyton, Harball or Vrabel. Mike McCarthy would
[36:53] Speaker 1: clean the Jets up. They wouldn't be great, but he'd
[36:55] Speaker 1: clean them up.
[36:56] Speaker 2: They look like I'd say giants too, if they're gonna
[36:58] Speaker 2: fire a table.
[36:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean McCarthy's a pro. He may be a
[37:01] Speaker 1: number two starter. You know, he's not Yoshi, but he's
[37:04] Speaker 1: gonna you know, he's gonna give you a seven inning.
[37:06] Speaker 1: It's gonna be a professional operation. When you want to
[37:10] Speaker 1: enjoy life simpler pleasures, reach for Green River Whiskey. Whether
[37:14] Speaker 1: a dry whiskey or single barrel bourbon, you're getting over
[37:18] Speaker 1: a century of craftsmanship packed into every bottle. Hop on
[37:21] Speaker 1: over to Greenriver Whiskey dot Com and discover a legend
[37:25] Speaker 1: in a bottle. Today. Miami thirty, Buffalo thirteen. It was
[37:34] Speaker 1: sixteen nothing Dolphins at half. An interesting number is Josh
[37:38] Speaker 1: Allen had three point five to three seconds to throw.
[37:42] Speaker 1: That's his highest since twenty eighteen. Nobody's open, so they
[37:45] Speaker 1: didn't make a big move at the trade deadline, and
[37:51] Speaker 1: I think everybody thought they should probably add a piece
[37:53] Speaker 1: because Kansas City's defense. But they had ninety yards at half.
[37:57] Speaker 1: They didn't have a they didn't pick up a first
[37:59] Speaker 1: down on third in the first half. And this is
[38:04] Speaker 1: a Miami team we thought quit three weeks ago. We
[38:09] Speaker 1: always talk about quarterbacks. You get until the second year,
[38:12] Speaker 1: Thanksgiving second year. I think we've just got to be
[38:16] Speaker 1: brutally honest with Sean McDermott here. It's not just Kansas City.
[38:21] Speaker 1: There's just too many games where you're just like, I mean,
[38:26] Speaker 1: Buffalo should never look like that ever, they should never
[38:31] Speaker 1: look like that.
[38:32] Speaker 2: I understand in college when you have a two top
[38:35] Speaker 2: ten teams play each other, and then the following week
[38:37] Speaker 2: you're playing a two win team and you're tied at halftime.
[38:40] Speaker 2: Like these nineteen year old guys. This is a team
[38:42] Speaker 2: that's now for the last five years, been one of
[38:45] Speaker 2: the top what two or three teams in the entire league.
[38:47] Speaker 1: And they've got older players here. Man, They've got a
[38:50] Speaker 1: lot of twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty nine year olds.
[38:52] Speaker 2: The coach has been there, I think since twenty seventeen.
[38:55] Speaker 2: Josh has now been the starter for a long time.
[38:57] Speaker 2: It's not just on Sean, it's also you know the quarterback,
[39:01] Speaker 2: you know, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady. They take a lot
[39:03] Speaker 2: of that responsibility as well. So today was embarrassing. I
[39:07] Speaker 2: mean it truly was. It was. It should have been
[39:10] Speaker 2: fourteen nothing. I think the kicker missed an extra point.
[39:12] Speaker 2: It was fourteen nothing or thirteen nothing for you even
[39:14] Speaker 2: blinked two, had a couple. He threw a beautiful touchdown
[39:17] Speaker 2: pass to Jalen Waddle, Yes, and it was like, okay,
[39:20] Speaker 2: fourteen nothing or thirteen nothing. Bill starts slow. I've seen
[39:23] Speaker 2: them happen and then ended up winning thirty five to
[39:26] Speaker 2: twenty or something. And they never got out of the
[39:28] Speaker 2: malaise and it started raining. It was probably humid, and
[39:32] Speaker 2: they just looked lifeless. Josh threw one of the worst
[39:35] Speaker 2: interceptions I've ever seen him throw. I don't know if
[39:37] Speaker 2: he's on the wrong page with the wider. You just
[39:38] Speaker 2: threw it right to the to the wide receipts or
[39:40] Speaker 2: to the cornerback. They had an awful fumble early in
[39:43] Speaker 2: the game when they were driving. They just looked lost.
[39:47] Speaker 2: And that's the type game when your main rival, now
[39:51] Speaker 2: who's back is winning and now has a lead, kind
[39:54] Speaker 2: of a commanding lead because they already beat you, and
[39:56] Speaker 2: their scheduled so easy, so they're not going away, and
[40:00] Speaker 2: you just look big picture, this is going to be
[40:02] Speaker 2: the worst team of the Verbel Era for the next
[40:04] Speaker 2: couple of years when you factor in how young it is. Right,
[40:07] Speaker 2: you just listened to a couple guys that just started
[40:08] Speaker 2: playing their left tackle. It's his rookie year. Their quarterback
[40:11] Speaker 2: is a second year. This is the first year of
[40:13] Speaker 2: the coaching staffs together. So like their aros pointing up,
[40:16] Speaker 2: and I think it kind of reflects that the Bills
[40:19] Speaker 2: can really get up for the Chiefs, and for whatever reason,
[40:21] Speaker 2: I remember hearing like Houston Rockets, maybe because Kenny Smith say,
[40:26] Speaker 2: you know, the sad part is right when we got
[40:27] Speaker 2: good Jordan retired, they could never stop a keeam and
[40:31] Speaker 2: we always played the Bulls well, and if we ever
[40:33] Speaker 2: saw them, we would have stopped that streak because they
[40:35] Speaker 2: would have had no shot because they had no center.
[40:37] Speaker 2: We were a team that we played them really well.
[40:39] Speaker 2: And some in basketball it happens a lot, right your
[40:41] Speaker 2: matchup football kind of happens sometimes, but if you're good
[40:44] Speaker 2: enough whatever. For whatever reason, the Bills match up because
[40:47] Speaker 2: their pass rush is good. They treat that game in
[40:50] Speaker 2: the regular season like the super Bowl. They just look
[40:52] Speaker 2: like the best team in the league when they play
[40:53] Speaker 2: the Chiefs. Yep, before and after then they look much
[40:57] Speaker 2: more pedestrian. Today though was I don't know. I mean,
[41:01] Speaker 2: I felt like it was one of the more embarrassing
[41:03] Speaker 2: performances of the Allen Sean McDermott little air.
[41:07] Speaker 1: Or I think it may be the most. I thought
[41:10] Speaker 1: maybe they lost a few years ago at home on
[41:13] Speaker 1: the opener to the Steelers and they were a favorite,
[41:14] Speaker 1: and I was like what in the hell is that.
[41:16] Speaker 1: I thought that game against the Saints this year it
[41:19] Speaker 1: was competitive. I was like, what would bother me today?
[41:24] Speaker 1: Is that Miami in the first half averaged six and
[41:26] Speaker 1: a half yards of play. So in my take is
[41:30] Speaker 1: it would be one thing if the offense sputtered your
[41:33] Speaker 1: defensive coach, John, I've been on this forever. What do
[41:36] Speaker 1: you do with your side of the ball? That wasn't
[41:39] Speaker 1: just Josh Allen like that defense had no energy? That defense,
[41:43] Speaker 1: I mean it just they generated this incredible pass rush
[41:47] Speaker 1: against Kansas City and really, I mean two is one
[41:50] Speaker 1: of the easiest guys to rush in the league, and
[41:54] Speaker 1: he had time to throw. They ran the ball?
[41:59] Speaker 2: Is in New England? Are you taking New England? As
[42:01] Speaker 2: we said here today? Do you think New England?
[42:04] Speaker 1: New England's got the better coach? I think New England
[42:08] Speaker 1: and now with Williams and Trayvon Henderson, it's like, oh,
[42:11] Speaker 1: I feel like New England now is on the up,
[42:15] Speaker 1: like they're an AS sending team. I don't think Buffalo is.
[42:19] Speaker 1: I mean we forget before that Kansas City game, I
[42:21] Speaker 1: mean we'd seen them Buffalo go to Atlanta and get worked.
[42:24] Speaker 1: I mean they've had that Saints game they want at home.
[42:27] Speaker 1: Was troubling, Like they've had a lot of Somebody told
[42:30] Speaker 1: me this in the league at the beginning of the year.
[42:33] Speaker 1: They said, Buffalo doesn't have nearly the roster people give
[42:36] Speaker 1: it credit for. They're like James Cook, Josh Allen Oliver,
[42:42] Speaker 1: the defensive lineman, who's hurt, Like, who's hurt? They're like,
[42:47] Speaker 1: you know, Dawkins the left tackle. I was talking to
[42:50] Speaker 1: an execut in the league and he's like, you know,
[42:53] Speaker 1: he goes the better rosters or the Rams and the
[42:55] Speaker 1: Eagles and the Lions and the Packers and Kansas Cities
[42:59] Speaker 1: like Raven. He's like, Buffalo's roster is not that good.
[43:02] Speaker 1: Josh left tackle, quarterback, running back, interior d lineman. That's
[43:07] Speaker 1: why they went and got Bosa. I mean, they've drafted
[43:09] Speaker 1: a lot, a lot of draft capital on their defense.
[43:11] Speaker 1: That's why they went and got Bosa, who played well
[43:13] Speaker 1: against you know, Kansas City, But okay, Seattle forty four,
[43:19] Speaker 1: Arizona twenty two. It was thirty five nothing, So you know,
[43:23] Speaker 1: it's just impossible to keep that up. And Darnold had
[43:25] Speaker 1: a couple of just like funny, like bizarre turnovers. That
[43:29] Speaker 1: ball bounces off a tight end's helmet. You know I'm
[43:34] Speaker 1: gonna throw this to you. I got Pete Carroll and
[43:39] Speaker 1: John Snyder. You know this battled. They battled, and there
[43:45] Speaker 1: was a little tug of war on Pete's kid and
[43:48] Speaker 1: John Snyder. And I'm not going to go into too
[43:51] Speaker 1: many details, but Pete and John John almost left for Detroit,
[43:56] Speaker 1: remember that years ago because he wanted his final say Well,
[44:01] Speaker 1: since Pete's been out of the building, John Snyder's two
[44:03] Speaker 1: drafts have been a plus, a plus he is now
[44:07] Speaker 1: doing and I think John, Jason Light, Howie Roseman, how
[44:11] Speaker 1: he's a deal maker. I'm not sure there's many guys
[44:13] Speaker 1: better than John Snyder. A just personnel, college personnel drafting it.
[44:17] Speaker 1: There's not a lot of guys better. Again, I think
[44:20] Speaker 1: Jason Light and Tampa's are really good. That's Seattle roster.
[44:25] Speaker 1: I wrote this down young, fast, physical. You can turn
[44:29] Speaker 1: the sound down. John against Washington and against Arizona. It
[44:32] Speaker 1: looks like a college mismatch. They are so fast, they
[44:37] Speaker 1: are so physical. Donald's in total control of the offense.
[44:45] Speaker 1: Play action, run game, deep game. I don't see the whole.
[44:50] Speaker 1: I really don't see the whole With this team. They
[44:52] Speaker 1: drafted that safety. That kid's a banger of the South
[44:55] Speaker 1: Carolina safety. I don't see the weakness with the team.
[45:00] Speaker 2: I think the point of difference they have that obviously
[45:02] Speaker 2: play the Rams this upcoming week, which is an incredible game,
[45:05] Speaker 2: is their dbs are good and the Rams aren't. I
[45:07] Speaker 2: think that's the difference because the offenses are both elite,
[45:10] Speaker 2: pass rushes are awesome. Coaching staff's high end. If you
[45:14] Speaker 2: and me were the NFL, like in college, how they
[45:17] Speaker 2: have the College Football Committee and he rank them one
[45:18] Speaker 2: through twelve. I would rank Seattle after this week number one.
[45:22] Speaker 2: They would be my number one team, and you just
[45:24] Speaker 2: if you just watch them without the sound on. Obviously today,
[45:27] Speaker 2: but over the last couple of weeks, the team speed
[45:31] Speaker 2: in which they had. I think the Lob team with
[45:37] Speaker 2: Pete was probably the most physical team I've ever seen live.
[45:40] Speaker 2: I do think the fastest team I've ever seen live
[45:42] Speaker 2: is the Peyton Manning Denver Broncos. Their defense, every single
[45:46] Speaker 2: guy could run fast defensive lot. It was DeMarcus Ware,
[45:49] Speaker 2: von Miller, Wolf, Malik Jackson, Trevathan They had a key
[45:53] Speaker 2: to leap, but their speed and physicality was just I've
[45:56] Speaker 2: never seen anything, and I've saw them live a bunch
[45:58] Speaker 2: of times. This team has some similarities to those two teams. Yeah,
[46:02] Speaker 2: who are kind of taking the league by storm. Every guy,
[46:05] Speaker 2: I mean, like you said em and Worry he's like six.
[46:09] Speaker 2: He is their potential Kyle Hamilton. But they already had
[46:12] Speaker 2: some good dbs, right they drafted the kid Witherspoon from Illinois.
[46:16] Speaker 2: They already had woolin. Obviously, their their linebacker play is fast.
[46:19] Speaker 2: Once they got Ernest Jones, they're they're head coach. I mean,
[46:23] Speaker 2: we talk so much, and rightfully so about these offensive coaches.
[46:25] Speaker 2: He's got a chance to be pretty special. His demeanor,
[46:28] Speaker 2: he has a very modern demeanor, you know, like when
[46:32] Speaker 2: you watch Rabel. Rabel is not the throwback of like
[46:36] Speaker 2: what I grew up on, guys screaming. He doesn't he's
[46:39] Speaker 2: not is maybe he's a players coach. Yeah, when the
[46:41] Speaker 2: doors are shut, I think he's on him in the meetings.
[46:44] Speaker 2: But on the sideline, he's very common collected. I would say,
[46:47] Speaker 2: Mike McDonald. It almost feels like is he on a
[46:50] Speaker 2: couple of zanies or something like it show? But he
[46:52] Speaker 2: he there's no he because he knows like he is
[46:55] Speaker 2: he is very common. His team reflects that, and I
[46:58] Speaker 2: would say this, they are personnel of trading Gino and
[47:02] Speaker 2: signing Sam. Has got a chance to be an all timer.
[47:05] Speaker 2: I mean, that's got a chance to be because they
[47:07] Speaker 2: didn't give Sam. I mean he's gonna end up probably.
[47:10] Speaker 2: I mean, he's not going anywhere for a while. They
[47:12] Speaker 2: gave him one hundred million dollars over three years. I
[47:14] Speaker 2: mean it's relative to the other contracts we've seen Colin around.
[47:17] Speaker 1: Well, it's five million guaranteed, so the salary, the cap
[47:21] Speaker 1: hit is just nothing.
[47:24] Speaker 2: JSN looks like Jerry Rice. I knew the guy was good,
[47:27] Speaker 2: but this year he is. It's like Pooka by the way,
[47:30] Speaker 2: right when, but now this guy was. We knew more
[47:32] Speaker 2: about JSN than Puka because he Ohio State and first
[47:35] Speaker 2: round pick, but you knew after a couple of weeks.
[47:38] Speaker 2: Puka was a rookie, Like is this real? And then
[47:39] Speaker 2: it just never stopped, you know, jas N like is
[47:41] Speaker 2: he really this good? And every single week it's like
[47:44] Speaker 2: he's unstoppable.
[47:44] Speaker 1: And JSN was like a five star recruit. First round
[47:49] Speaker 1: I think it was a first round.
[47:50] Speaker 2: Receive hit twenty.
[47:51] Speaker 1: I think, yeah, the only question was is he a one?
[47:54] Speaker 1: Everybody knew it was really good. Now you're like, yeah,
[47:57] Speaker 1: he's just contest catches speed. Then they go get Rashid's
[48:02] Speaker 1: heat from New Orleans and you know that he now
[48:05] Speaker 1: has the offensive coordinator that he had in New Orleans.
[48:08] Speaker 1: Now he's in Seattle again. This is a big play offense.
[48:12] Speaker 1: What I like about Seattle they can grind you down.
[48:14] Speaker 1: If they have a lead, they can run the football
[48:17] Speaker 1: up they have a lead. They are a big play offense.
[48:19] Speaker 1: They can play from behind. You know, I'm just I'm
[48:22] Speaker 1: writing this down throughout the course of the game. Jsan
[48:27] Speaker 1: first receiver to a thousand, It's not that weird with Seattle,
[48:31] Speaker 1: where they average six and a half to seven yards
[48:33] Speaker 1: of play like it happens regularly, and there is something
[48:39] Speaker 1: to be said of trusting your eyes. I think this
[48:43] Speaker 1: is now even more than Mike McDonald. I think it's
[48:46] Speaker 1: John Snyder's organization. And I've texted Snyder a couple of times.
[48:52] Speaker 1: He travels. I mean, he's at every weekend. He is
[48:56] Speaker 1: a you got to go to these games, Like they
[48:58] Speaker 1: always say, to sell a company, you have to take
[49:00] Speaker 1: a thousand meetings. John Snyder's on a plane every weekend.
[49:04] Speaker 1: He doesn't scout off the TV or film. He wants
[49:07] Speaker 1: to go to the games. And I mean, they're just
[49:11] Speaker 1: an when I watch them play. I'm like, when you're
[49:13] Speaker 1: a big playoffense and your quarterback has mobility, so you
[49:18] Speaker 1: can go down the field, the quarterback, you can move
[49:20] Speaker 1: the pocket, you can grind people with a lead. You know,
[49:23] Speaker 1: it's like Detroit if Goff had mobility, and that's the
[49:26] Speaker 1: whole like GoF doesn't, but Detroit's a big playoffense and
[49:30] Speaker 1: can grind you down. Just think of Detroit's offense and
[49:33] Speaker 1: then if Jared Goff could move, you'd be like, shit,
[49:37] Speaker 1: what do you do? But we've seen Detroit do that
[49:40] Speaker 1: for three years. I think Seattle like, if you don't
[49:42] Speaker 1: pay attention like we do, obviously, people that do this
[49:45] Speaker 1: for a living shit, man, they're embarrassing teams these How
[49:49] Speaker 1: often do you get a thirty five nothing lead in
[49:52] Speaker 1: the first half of a pro football game?
[49:55] Speaker 2: And Arizona had been playing well, even their record's not
[49:58] Speaker 2: that great, they have been in every single game they
[50:00] Speaker 2: played this year. A week ago, they easily could be
[50:04] Speaker 2: you know, coming into this game, they could have been
[50:06] Speaker 2: six and three. I would say. The thing with John Schneider,
[50:09] Speaker 2: when you think about we talk about offensive coaches, You're like,
[50:12] Speaker 2: if JJ can't play for Kevin O'Connell, that's a JJ issue,
[50:14] Speaker 2: not a Kevin issue. Right. If you can't play for
[50:17] Speaker 2: Kyle Shanahan, that's a you issue because and and that
[50:20] Speaker 2: skill is why those guys are going to be paid
[50:22] Speaker 2: at the top of the market until they retire from
[50:25] Speaker 2: the NFL. John Schneider start, he was the guy that
[50:27] Speaker 2: pounded the table for peak against Pete Carroll for Russell
[50:30] Speaker 2: Wilson and ultimately got him to relent and draft him. Obviously,
[50:34] Speaker 2: that changed the course of their franchise when they pivoted
[50:36] Speaker 2: off Russell. And remember John wanted to do it earlier,
[50:39] Speaker 2: try to trade him to the Cleveland Browns so he
[50:41] Speaker 2: could draft Josh Allen. That's what he was gonna take.
[50:44] Speaker 2: Then he trades for Gino or he gets Gino as
[50:46] Speaker 2: the backup, and they were cool with like, I think
[50:48] Speaker 2: we can handle this for a little bit, and he
[50:49] Speaker 2: was right. Gino was actually and they got Drew Locke.
[50:52] Speaker 2: Remember they won a Monday night football game against the
[50:53] Speaker 2: Eagles with Drew Locke, who is the worst of this
[50:56] Speaker 2: whole group, and then he pivots to Sam Darnold. Like
[50:59] Speaker 2: I would say as a quarterback evaluator, John schnyders as
[51:03] Speaker 2: good as it gets from a GM perspective, and if
[51:06] Speaker 2: that's gonna be the guy that you're gonna invest most
[51:08] Speaker 2: of your money into as a franchise, his skill, let
[51:11] Speaker 2: alone his ability to build the team. It's I mean,
[51:13] Speaker 2: this is now like how many different iterations of the team,
[51:16] Speaker 2: the lob team. Remember then they transitioned in the late
[51:19] Speaker 2: twenty tens. They were still good. You know, they weren't.
[51:22] Speaker 2: They weren't going to Super Bowls, but they were never
[51:24] Speaker 2: They didn't have four win seasons. They were winning nine
[51:26] Speaker 2: to eleven games. And now, I mean, what do they
[51:29] Speaker 2: look like to you? A fourteen win team? Who's there
[51:32] Speaker 2: if DeVante Adams who kind of hurt his back at
[51:35] Speaker 2: the end of the game, we have to monitor that
[51:36] Speaker 2: throughout the week. I like, see, I think that's gonna
[51:39] Speaker 2: be a tough way tough ita.
[51:41] Speaker 1: I do too, I would take it. I think the
[51:43] Speaker 1: advantage of Darnold's mobility. I really think in these close games,
[51:48] Speaker 1: your ability to roll the pocket and make plays, I
[51:50] Speaker 1: think it matters because both those defensive fronts, especially the
[51:53] Speaker 1: Rams get a pass rush, I'll take the mobile quarterback.
[51:56] Speaker 2: One more thing. You know in the NFL, not all
[51:58] Speaker 2: these teams have huge home field advantage. Just one of
[52:00] Speaker 2: the advantages not having to get on a plane so
[52:02] Speaker 2: it's easier on guy's body. Seattle, Arrowhead, Buffalo, there's a
[52:07] Speaker 2: short list. So if they can get the number one
[52:10] Speaker 2: seed or home field, it's a big advantage. In Philly,
[52:12] Speaker 2: that place is hard to play in. If Seattle can
[52:15] Speaker 2: get home playoff games, maybe because remember everyone beat up
[52:19] Speaker 2: Sam and he didn't play well those last two games,
[52:21] Speaker 2: but they were both on the road in Detroit, which
[52:23] Speaker 2: is obviously a hard place to play.
[52:25] Speaker 1: And then it was the biggest game. That was the
[52:26] Speaker 1: biggest Lions game at home in probably twenty years.
[52:29] Speaker 2: I would say, I'm forty years old. In my lifetime,
[52:33] Speaker 2: it didn't get any bigger, and he played bad. And
[52:35] Speaker 2: then remember the playoff game because they lose, they're supposed
[52:40] Speaker 2: to come to The Rams have to play in Arizona
[52:42] Speaker 2: because of the fires. If they get home playoff games,
[52:45] Speaker 2: I'm gonna like Sam Darnold's chances more because i think
[52:47] Speaker 2: people are like, what's he gonna do? In the playoffs, Like,
[52:48] Speaker 2: I don't know. I think he'll be okay this time.
[52:51] Speaker 1: If they're gonna puk like this, well, it's a long flight.
[52:54] Speaker 1: It's right on the Puget Sound and that I grew
[52:58] Speaker 1: up there. It's a wet, c old rain, it's windy,
[53:02] Speaker 1: it's on the sound. It's tough, and Darnald, by the way,
[53:05] Speaker 1: has got a big arm and they run the ball.
[53:06] Speaker 1: Donald's ball is gonna split through the cold weather. Like
[53:09] Speaker 1: if you come up there, you better be ready to
[53:11] Speaker 1: throw it because that ball it's windy and wet in
[53:13] Speaker 1: the Pacific Northwest. I want to talk about this game.
[53:17] Speaker 1: It was the first game today in overtime. Colts come
[53:20] Speaker 1: back thirty one to twenty four over the Falcons. Two
[53:23] Speaker 1: things jumped out to me. One will get to later.
[53:26] Speaker 1: Pannicks off target throws. There must have been eight to ten,
[53:31] Speaker 1: like really off off target. I will say this though
[53:35] Speaker 1: the Coltstol line was not good. God Atlanta had seven sacks.
[53:39] Speaker 1: So Daniel Jones, but he looked like the old Daniel Jones,
[53:44] Speaker 1: like the fumble issues reverted and he just even when
[53:48] Speaker 1: he got bumped out of bounce on he has a
[53:50] Speaker 1: major fumble issue. But between you got to give Chris
[53:54] Speaker 1: Ballard credit because they were missing some people today. Jonathan
[53:57] Speaker 1: Taylor right now is probably the best back in the league.
[54:00] Speaker 1: Warren is a pro bowler at tight end. He made
[54:02] Speaker 1: a huge, huge catch late in the fourth quarter. I
[54:08] Speaker 1: almost thought they won despite Daniel Jones today. I really
[54:11] Speaker 1: I felt that.
[54:11] Speaker 2: I totally agree. I thought I'm watching the game at
[54:14] Speaker 2: the gym the second half because early I it was
[54:17] Speaker 2: easier to get up because it starts a seven thirty
[54:18] Speaker 2: when the clocks moved back from me and Indy came
[54:22] Speaker 2: out and just rolling and I was like, Ah, they're
[54:24] Speaker 2: gonna They're gonna blow him out. And then they started
[54:26] Speaker 2: blitzing Daniel Jones. He started. I mean, he had some
[54:29] Speaker 2: bad He had an awful fumble where he just gets
[54:31] Speaker 2: He had kind of looked.
[54:32] Speaker 1: Like the horrible He had three sacks in this game
[54:36] Speaker 1: where he looked like a rookie. It's like Daniel get
[54:39] Speaker 1: rid of the ball.
[54:40] Speaker 2: It felt like they played like nineteen ninety six football
[54:43] Speaker 2: are running back and our tight end is gonna carry us.
[54:45] Speaker 2: We're not gonna throw these bombs d Alex Pierce. We
[54:47] Speaker 2: don't have any time to protect and Jonathan Taylor I
[54:50] Speaker 2: thought today officially like threw his hat in the ring
[54:52] Speaker 2: like he's an MVP candidate. If this team's gonna win
[54:55] Speaker 2: thirteen or fourteen games, like you're gonna run for two
[54:58] Speaker 2: thousand eat single handedly carry him and Warren. I mean
[55:01] Speaker 2: those two, combination of those two guys, I thought might
[55:05] Speaker 2: have ended. If you tell me we wake up in
[55:06] Speaker 2: the morning run he Morris has been fired. It was
[55:08] Speaker 2: because of those two guys today in Germany. So I'm
[55:12] Speaker 2: with you. It's that the Warren pick God, he is
[55:16] Speaker 2: his ball skills for a guy that big. I mean,
[55:18] Speaker 2: Danie Jones clows it up in his vicinity. Who can
[55:20] Speaker 2: cover him? There's dbs and linebackers aren't six foot five.
[55:24] Speaker 2: You can't get up that the one you're talking about,
[55:27] Speaker 2: he is so with his arms, yeah, he's probably I mean,
[55:30] Speaker 2: how high do you think that ball is at seven
[55:32] Speaker 2: feet in the air? When he talked about his arms
[55:34] Speaker 2: extended and the Jonathan Taylor runs, what are you supposed
[55:37] Speaker 2: to do? I mean, he's he's a dominant force. But
[55:40] Speaker 2: that's a that's a big win because it felt like
[55:42] Speaker 2: they were falling apart and then Atlanta, you know, takes
[55:45] Speaker 2: and then you're like, God, they just traded a first
[55:46] Speaker 2: round pick and saus getting cooked. He dropped a pick.
[55:49] Speaker 2: You're like, this is not going well. I thought they're
[55:52] Speaker 2: going to lose this game and the headline is going
[55:54] Speaker 2: to be you just traded two first round picks for
[55:56] Speaker 2: a guy that everyone says can't catch out. A ball
[55:58] Speaker 2: just go right through his body and then basically a
[56:00] Speaker 2: two point conversion. He's falling on the ground. You know,
[56:03] Speaker 2: it's like this guy, if you can't cover to Daniel.
[56:05] Speaker 1: Daniel Jones does deserve credit. He had that last drive
[56:09] Speaker 1: he had. He it was pretty good late in the
[56:10] Speaker 1: fourth quarter. That throw to Warren was a big time throwing,
[56:13] Speaker 1: a big time catch. So Daniel and maybe at a
[56:16] Speaker 1: hand sized thing. Daniel had a fumble problem in New
[56:18] Speaker 1: York and it reared its head again today. So he's
[56:22] Speaker 1: had a In fact, let me look this up. His
[56:24] Speaker 1: turnovers the last two weeks have been absolutely atrocious.
[56:27] Speaker 2: Hold, I think he's gonna be He's gonna be a
[56:29] Speaker 2: guy in the first round. You know, let's say they're
[56:31] Speaker 2: the two seed, they're gonna depending on who they're playing
[56:34] Speaker 2: in some of these playoff matches. I think a lot
[56:36] Speaker 2: of people are gonna bet against and the the headline
[56:40] Speaker 2: is going to be I do not trust Daniel Jones
[56:42] Speaker 2: in this playoff game.
[56:44] Speaker 1: Seven giveaways in his last two games. So it's it's
[56:48] Speaker 1: it's it's a natural regression. Though I don't want to
[56:50] Speaker 1: overreact because he was virtually perfect and now all of
[56:54] Speaker 1: a sudden, the Colts O line probably I didn't check
[56:59] Speaker 1: their oline health, but probably missing a starter got worked
[57:03] Speaker 1: a little today. Atlanta created great pressure. I mean the
[57:07] Speaker 1: Colts OL line struggled.
[57:09] Speaker 2: In Atlanta's defense in defense of them is actually not bad,
[57:12] Speaker 2: and their pressure this year has been pretty good. They
[57:15] Speaker 2: drafted a couple of guys in the first round. They
[57:17] Speaker 2: have been feisty upfront. Honestly, the offense you had mentioned Penix,
[57:22] Speaker 2: he has not looked good. You know, bo Nick has
[57:23] Speaker 2: taken a lot of shit, and I'd say Penix looks
[57:26] Speaker 2: as every bit as bad as him. His team's not
[57:28] Speaker 2: as good, but he is skipping ball. And I'm a
[57:30] Speaker 2: Penix guy.
[57:30] Speaker 1: Or was so much.
[57:32] Speaker 2: I probably have to be out that it's just not
[57:34] Speaker 2: gonna work because a lot of people I know in
[57:37] Speaker 2: the league Colin were not Penix people.
[57:39] Speaker 1: Well, no, I and It's funny because I listen, third
[57:44] Speaker 1: game this season for penis under one hundred and eighty
[57:46] Speaker 1: passing yards, third game in a row under sixty percent completion.
[57:50] Speaker 1: Remember he's twenty five years old, so he should be.
[57:53] Speaker 1: He's had a lot of snaps. Between Indiana and Washington,
[57:57] Speaker 1: he's had a lot of snaps. I mean it feels
[58:00] Speaker 1: like to me, he also had you know, he had
[58:01] Speaker 1: forty five starts in college. I thought he was more
[58:05] Speaker 1: naturally accurate, Like I just thought he was one of
[58:10] Speaker 1: those guys like C. J. Stroud. He justin Herbert. He
[58:13] Speaker 1: just throws strikes. You know, he's just a pitcher that
[58:15] Speaker 1: throws strikes and he misses a lot. And I mean
[58:21] Speaker 1: John wild left, he must have skipped four balls today.
[58:25] Speaker 1: So it's not because he doesn't have the weapons. I mean,
[58:30] Speaker 1: he's got two really good receivers. He got a star back.
[58:33] Speaker 1: I think their offensive line is okay. He gets decent protection. Again,
[58:37] Speaker 1: it's eye test. I don't love what I see now. Again,
[58:40] Speaker 1: he did not play last year, so I do feel
[58:43] Speaker 1: like some is he hurrying stuff? And I do think
[58:46] Speaker 1: he's he feels like he's hurrying stuff. But you you know,
[58:49] Speaker 1: it's there's some wild pitches here pretty regularly.
[58:52] Speaker 2: Well, remember he didn't get what he what was he
[58:54] Speaker 2: sack like six times his senior year at Washington the
[58:57] Speaker 2: year that they went to the National Championship. Remember he
[58:59] Speaker 2: didn't get His offensive line won the whatever the moral
[59:02] Speaker 2: award is. And you get hit a lot more in
[59:05] Speaker 2: the NFL, and I feel like once he gets hit,
[59:08] Speaker 2: it kind of throws him off. But twelve of twenty
[59:10] Speaker 2: eight in an NFL game against the defense, he wasn't
[59:12] Speaker 2: playing the Denver Broncos to day. One thing about Indianapolis,
[59:15] Speaker 2: I wouldn't exactly call them the eighty five Bears on defense.
[59:18] Speaker 1: Well, they like you say, they had Sauce Gardner, but
[59:20] Speaker 1: there's a reason they went and got him. Like their
[59:22] Speaker 1: defensive secondary John was all beat up. They were missing
[59:25] Speaker 1: two starters.
[59:26] Speaker 2: So I think the Pennix thing, ultimately, what is gonna
[59:30] Speaker 2: get Rahee Morris and everyone in Atlanta fired, And it
[59:32] Speaker 2: would get most people fired when you lose in the
[59:35] Speaker 2: NFL because you've whiffed on the quarterback. They paid Kirk
[59:39] Speaker 2: Cousins ninety million dollars for two years. Yep, you know
[59:42] Speaker 2: that he has an under five hundred record and I
[59:44] Speaker 2: think his tops down to interception ratio is essentially one
[59:46] Speaker 2: to one, and got benched year one and they're paying
[59:49] Speaker 2: almost thirty million dollars to be the backup. Mac Jones
[59:51] Speaker 2: is making I think three million dollars this year. Kirk
[59:53] Speaker 2: Cousins is making twenty seven point five. Cousin started one
[59:56] Speaker 2: game and they got destroyed. That's a problem. And then
[59:59] Speaker 2: the reason you you paid him, and then a month
[1:00:01] Speaker 2: later you draft this guy. You like, we love this guy,
[1:00:04] Speaker 2: and you're watching these other court even JJ McCarthy, who
[1:00:08] Speaker 2: I don't really like. I see more like his physical attributes.
[1:00:11] Speaker 2: I'm watching Penis. I'm like, where is this arm? He
[1:00:13] Speaker 2: had Ryan Grubb. Listen, Ryan Grubb and Seattle in the pros.
[1:00:16] Speaker 2: He's never coached in the pros. It did not go well.
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: I watched Ryan Grubb in college. I mean he had
[1:00:21] Speaker 2: Ty Simpson LA yesterday slinging that thing against LSU. I go,
[1:00:24] Speaker 2: Ryan Grubb's a big time coach, and I watch him
[1:00:27] Speaker 2: with Zach Robinson coaching. Sometimes in the NFL, you're gonna
[1:00:29] Speaker 2: get some not every guy is Bill Walsh and you
[1:00:32] Speaker 2: Pennix feels like they got no clue what's going on?
[1:00:34] Speaker 2: He's playing bad, feels like he's lost his confidence, and
[1:00:37] Speaker 2: like you said, he's not an upside guy. He was.
[1:00:39] Speaker 2: This was my issue with them signing cousins. If you
[1:00:42] Speaker 2: love Pennix at the Combine or whatever, he is a
[1:00:45] Speaker 2: ready made plug and play player. He's not. Let's let's
[1:00:48] Speaker 2: uh Aaron Rodgers had to fix the ball placement. Pennix
[1:00:51] Speaker 2: was just he he plays like he's played probably since
[1:00:54] Speaker 2: junior high. He just the problem is it's not translated.
[1:00:57] Speaker 2: I knew so many scouts that because I'm just again,
[1:01:02] Speaker 2: I'm a West Coast guy, root for him. They were
[1:01:04] Speaker 2: a fun team to watch. This guy's really grown them.
[1:01:06] Speaker 2: I think he's going to be a good NFL player.
[1:01:08] Speaker 2: Most people that went through there obviously the injuries, but
[1:01:11] Speaker 2: they said when you watch them live, when you go
[1:01:13] Speaker 2: to practice his physical attributes. You know, he threw a
[1:01:16] Speaker 2: beautiful deep ball in college, and they threw a lot
[1:01:19] Speaker 2: of bombs because they had obviously great wide receiver talent. Polk, Yeah, yeah,
[1:01:24] Speaker 2: you know, Rome and McMillan the plays for I mean,
[1:01:27] Speaker 2: they had three NFL wide receivers and Rome. When it's
[1:01:30] Speaker 2: not freezing cold, it's pretty damn good. And you watch
[1:01:33] Speaker 2: him in the pros. Like you said, Mooney Pits is
[1:01:36] Speaker 2: actually pretty good now. Obviously Drake London is a high
[1:01:39] Speaker 2: end one. Bijon can catch the ball twelve completions against
[1:01:43] Speaker 2: the Colts. It's just that's that's bad. Today I thought
[1:01:48] Speaker 2: was like, this is this thing is needs to.

[1:02:40] Speaker 1: app today. Right, I want to talk a college topic,
[1:02:47] Speaker 1: speaking of panics, I want to pivot to this Kalin
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: de bor So I had said when he took over
[1:02:53] Speaker 1: for Nick saving because I think Ohio State's the best
[1:02:55] Speaker 1: team in the country. I think Bama's second, Indiana's third.
[1:02:58] Speaker 1: I don't buy an M, and M's beating a lot
[1:03:01] Speaker 1: of teams that have fired their coaches, like Arkansas, Florida, Auburn,
[1:03:05] Speaker 1: like they they're kind of they're kind of facing a
[1:03:08] Speaker 1: lot of these wobbly teams. So I think Ohio State's
[1:03:11] Speaker 1: the best team, Bama second. So Kaitlin de borg goes
[1:03:14] Speaker 1: sixty seven and three at Sioux Falls, Okay, twenty five
[1:03:18] Speaker 1: and three at Washington Fresno State briefly. Then he goes
[1:03:22] Speaker 1: seventeen and five at Bama so far, and one of
[1:03:25] Speaker 1: his losses was to Ohio State in a playoff. Nobody
[1:03:28] Speaker 1: was beating them, go Aast Tennessee and he lost the
[1:03:30] Speaker 1: game at Oklahoma night game. They played like shit, got
[1:03:33] Speaker 1: into a big hole. Whatever. But Bama does not have
[1:03:38] Speaker 1: a lot of nil money. And even though he replaced Saban,
[1:03:41] Speaker 1: he did have to change the culture. And you know this, John.
[1:03:44] Speaker 1: You can replace a good coach, it doesn't matter. You're
[1:03:47] Speaker 1: still bringing in what you may run a different, completely
[1:03:49] Speaker 1: different offense. The head coach probably took his defensive coordinator
[1:03:53] Speaker 1: or offensive coordinator. You have to build a staff. Doesn't
[1:03:55] Speaker 1: matter if you're replacing Saban. It's hard. You know guys
[1:03:59] Speaker 1: are leaving, you're bringing new people. You don't know. You
[1:04:01] Speaker 1: don't you don't know half your roster. You haven't watched film.
[1:04:04] Speaker 1: When you get that job on your roster, you don't know.
[1:04:06] Speaker 2: What you have.
[1:04:09] Speaker 1: I like ty Simpson six two, two ten, not a
[1:04:13] Speaker 1: big physical presence, not super mobile, good arm, not special.
[1:04:18] Speaker 1: He may get drafted number one, two or three, and
[1:04:20] Speaker 1: I think ty Simpson's okay. I don't see the wow trade.
[1:04:24] Speaker 1: But he was a good high school player. I mean
[1:04:26] Speaker 1: he didn't do it. First three years at Alabama. He
[1:04:28] Speaker 1: was twenty nine or fifty five, no touchdowns. He didn't
[1:04:31] Speaker 1: blow people away. I think, and you look at Bama's schedule,
[1:04:38] Speaker 1: I think maybe the Pennox thing is his coach is
[1:04:40] Speaker 1: a freaking rock star. I think a lot of it
[1:04:43] Speaker 1: is not just grub. I think it's Kaylin de Boor
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: because I watched Ty Simpson and everybody's in love with him,
[1:04:47] Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh, oh, I don't get what's well,
[1:04:51] Speaker 1: I don't get the great thing.
[1:04:53] Speaker 2: I think they're a powerful duo because last year something
[1:04:57] Speaker 2: was off with Bama. In fairness, they had a quarter
[1:05:00] Speaker 2: back that I would say, Jalen Milroe doesn't exactly scream
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: Kaylen de Boor, you know, and you know, so he
[1:05:06] Speaker 2: gets a real much more of a pocket passer. Even
[1:05:09] Speaker 2: last night that DC for LSU is actually pretty good.
[1:05:12] Speaker 2: Blake Baker, he's been awesome for them. As they start
[1:05:15] Speaker 2: hitting Ty Simpson, you look like he's not handling this
[1:05:17] Speaker 2: very well. He's getting crushed. Right. Ryan Grubb is When
[1:05:22] Speaker 2: him and Kaylen de bor are together, they are borderline unstoppable.
[1:05:26] Speaker 2: I mean, Who's I would say, the only guy that's
[1:05:28] Speaker 2: beat him in recent memory is like, you know, Florida State,
[1:05:31] Speaker 2: think give him a little bit of a pass started.
[1:05:33] Speaker 1: They went to Georgia and beat Kirby and Athens.
[1:05:36] Speaker 2: For sure, if they played Florida State, post him. If
[1:05:39] Speaker 2: they played Florida State today, they beat him by fifty.
[1:05:41] Speaker 2: So it's like that was one of those that's probably
[1:05:45] Speaker 2: the most you know that game, looking back in five years,
[1:05:48] Speaker 2: how the hell did that happen? But I do think
[1:05:51] Speaker 2: that Kaylen, when he's had Ryan Ryan Grubb with him,
[1:05:54] Speaker 2: that offense isn't unstoppable because last year I think they're
[1:05:56] Speaker 2: their quarterback coach who kind of went back down, who's
[1:05:59] Speaker 2: also been with the career. You know, it's just sometimes
[1:06:02] Speaker 2: it's difficult. This guy has been calling plays, but Klin
[1:06:06] Speaker 2: last night, what he's done with Tys Simpson. I mean,
[1:06:09] Speaker 2: Ryan Williams was supposed to be like they're justin Jefferson.
[1:06:12] Speaker 2: He's not even their best wide receiver. They got multiple
[1:06:14] Speaker 2: other guys. I think one concerning part, I like text
[1:06:17] Speaker 2: A and M more than you. I think if text
[1:06:19] Speaker 2: A and M played Indiana on a mutual on like a,
[1:06:22] Speaker 2: you know, like the equivalent, what's gonna happen in the playoffs.
[1:06:24] Speaker 2: I would like their chances in that. But we're gonna
[1:06:27] Speaker 2: learn a lot more about them. They play Texas coming up,
[1:06:29] Speaker 2: they're gonna be in the SEC Championship game against a
[1:06:31] Speaker 2: Bama against the Georgia. We'll really learn how good they are.
[1:06:33] Speaker 2: I think they're pretty good. But I think Alabama's offensive
[1:06:37] Speaker 2: pass the game with those two guys. I mean LSU
[1:06:39] Speaker 2: that was their last Hail Mary of a respectable game.
[1:06:42] Speaker 2: That's a rivalry game, McElroy said on the broadcast. He said,
[1:06:45] Speaker 2: this is by far the most physical game you play
[1:06:47] Speaker 2: at Alabama. This game means so much. Auburns the rival
[1:06:51] Speaker 2: but LSU's are equal in terms of we recruit the
[1:06:54] Speaker 2: same guys now in the transfer portal, I'm sure they're
[1:06:57] Speaker 2: looking at the same guys to recruit, but I think
[1:07:00] Speaker 2: Kaylin do bore I questioned moving around right, the personnel
[1:07:04] Speaker 2: or the personality West Coast Dakota guy in the.
[1:07:07] Speaker 1: South, how was my question? Midwest guy going to the South.
[1:07:10] Speaker 1: I know, Jim McElwain. You go to the South, it's
[1:07:12] Speaker 1: just different. It's relentless, it's kind of it's not realistic.
[1:07:16] Speaker 1: And you're replaces like replacing Howard Stern in FM radio.
[1:07:19] Speaker 1: You're replacing Saban and people just don't understand that you've
[1:07:22] Speaker 1: got to redo the staff and Bama can't now afford.
[1:07:26] Speaker 1: Bama is struggling to keep up with Nil. When you
[1:07:30] Speaker 1: watch Bama today, I think A and M's got a
[1:07:33] Speaker 1: good athletes or better. I think Texas has as many
[1:07:36] Speaker 1: good athletes, but when Saban was there pre andil you
[1:07:40] Speaker 1: watch Bama and Georgia was the only school that matched
[1:07:44] Speaker 1: up that even look the part. There's six or seven
[1:07:46] Speaker 1: teams in college that look like Bama now have the
[1:07:48] Speaker 1: same level of Ohio State's got better players than Alabama.
[1:07:51] Speaker 2: Do you know what they respect? On the SEC? Do
[1:07:53] Speaker 2: you win? I do you win? And now he's winning
[1:07:56] Speaker 2: and no one cares. So if you win, whether you're
[1:07:59] Speaker 2: from the Dakota, whether you're from Fresno, or whether you're
[1:08:01] Speaker 2: from Egypt, they don't give a shit. Now, I also
[1:08:05] Speaker 2: think they the Sabin personality is kind of what he
[1:08:10] Speaker 2: was winning and he had just this. He was a
[1:08:12] Speaker 2: tornado of alpha. I mean for a guy that's five
[1:08:16] Speaker 2: foot eleven, it's not like Sabin is built like Mike Vrabel,
[1:08:19] Speaker 2: but everyone quivers when he walks in the room. That's
[1:08:22] Speaker 2: not really Debor's thing. I knew people that played for
[1:08:24] Speaker 2: him at Fresno State. They're like, you know, he's much
[1:08:26] Speaker 2: more like intellectually quiet. They're like Jeff Tedford is much
[1:08:29] Speaker 2: more of a hard ass screaming at you. That's not
[1:08:31] Speaker 2: really Debor's demeanor. So it's clearly and maybe that demeanor
[1:08:36] Speaker 2: of Saban. It doesn't work as much unless you know
[1:08:39] Speaker 2: he was unique because he had a resume. Him and
[1:08:41] Speaker 2: urban Meyer, like those days are kind of over Dan Lanning,
[1:08:44] Speaker 2: players coach Lane Kiffin kind of players coach. You know,
[1:08:48] Speaker 2: Signetti's kind of a throwback. But I would imagine players
[1:08:52] Speaker 2: love playing for him. So yeah, it's what he's done
[1:08:55] Speaker 2: at Alabama. That's pretty been. It's been fun to watch
[1:08:58] Speaker 2: because I thought ty Senson like this little I remember
[1:09:00] Speaker 2: watching Florida State thinking this is not gonna work. You're
[1:09:03] Speaker 2: watching them last night, just slink touchdowns, Like wow, what
[1:09:05] Speaker 2: a job.
[1:09:07] Speaker 1: By the way that the Fernando Mendoza throw to beat
[1:09:11] Speaker 1: Penn State in the back of the end zone, that
[1:09:13] Speaker 1: final drive may have been the throw of the year,
[1:09:16] Speaker 1: the toe of the year I came out of that game.
[1:09:20] Speaker 1: I think Indiana's really well coached. I think Mendoz is
[1:09:22] Speaker 1: a really good college quarterback, and they've got playmakers. I
[1:09:26] Speaker 1: don't know what the ranking was on these recruits, but
[1:09:29] Speaker 1: they just have a lot of football players. They have
[1:09:31] Speaker 1: Like when you watch Indiana's defense, I don't know if
[1:09:34] Speaker 1: they have a bunch of NFL guys. It's just a
[1:09:36] Speaker 1: bunch of highly productive tough nosed football players to tackle
[1:09:41] Speaker 1: really well. They're in the right spot. I don't know
[1:09:45] Speaker 1: if they're four and five star guys. They don't look
[1:09:47] Speaker 1: necessarily the part, but they don't miss a lot of tackles.
[1:09:49] Speaker 1: They got worked. In the second half, Penn State moved
[1:09:51] Speaker 1: the ball up and down the field on Indiana. Like
[1:09:53] Speaker 1: you could tell Penn State had more foreign five star guys.
[1:09:56] Speaker 1: That offense with a backup quarterback just ran, passed, chunk
[1:10:00] Speaker 1: plays up and down. But I'll give Fernando Mendoz a credit.
[1:10:04] Speaker 1: That final drive, he made a couple of great throws
[1:10:09] Speaker 1: and you get why. I mean, like, that's when you
[1:10:12] Speaker 1: watch a college quarterback like that. That throw at the
[1:10:14] Speaker 1: back of the end zone was high so only one
[1:10:16] Speaker 1: guy in the stadium could catch it. You know. In
[1:10:19] Speaker 1: the NFL, just throw to the end zone. You throw
[1:10:21] Speaker 1: low front of the end zone, high back of the
[1:10:24] Speaker 1: end zone. And I watched that and I'm like, that's
[1:10:26] Speaker 1: an NFL throw. That's a big times throw.
[1:10:29] Speaker 2: A little more graceful, probably Omar Kelly Junior, but it
[1:10:32] Speaker 2: had a little Montana Dwight Clark in the back of
[1:10:34] Speaker 2: the end zone. You just put it up in the
[1:10:35] Speaker 2: back of the end zone off the back foot. I
[1:10:38] Speaker 2: do think, you know, you look at Mendoza, you look
[1:10:40] Speaker 2: at Dante more on his game winning drive. Yes, I
[1:10:44] Speaker 2: had a theory yesterday. It was kind of blown up
[1:10:47] Speaker 2: once Washington lost in Wisconsin. But do you think Oregon
[1:10:49] Speaker 2: and Washington are more equipped to play some of these
[1:10:52] Speaker 2: late October November games. They practice in the spring and
[1:10:55] Speaker 2: now at home in colder weather than what's a USC
[1:10:59] Speaker 2: and UCLA. So when they're going to some of these games,
[1:11:01] Speaker 2: it's not going to be it's going to be colder,
[1:11:03] Speaker 2: but they're used to practicing. If they want to practice
[1:11:05] Speaker 2: outside and wet and cold.
[1:11:08] Speaker 1: No USC in that Iowa weather, I wouldn't. I wouldn't.
[1:11:12] Speaker 2: Oh, they lose. They lose that game ten out of
[1:11:15] Speaker 2: ten times. They could not win that game.
[1:11:17] Speaker 1: I mean, I said, when Oregon and Washington came in,
[1:11:19] Speaker 1: I'm from there. That is big ten weather. It's it's
[1:11:22] Speaker 1: wetter than cold, but I mean Seattle and Eugene November,
[1:11:26] Speaker 1: it's it's rain and sideways. So I think Oregon's personnel
[1:11:31] Speaker 1: they're more than equipped to handle it. I thought that
[1:11:35] Speaker 1: was a gut check win Oregon was missing. I think
[1:11:38] Speaker 1: they're top three receivers. I could be wrong, but.
[1:11:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're in an offensive lineman. I think too.
[1:11:43] Speaker 1: They were a mess. I mean they basically in the
[1:11:45] Speaker 1: second half until that final tribe, they were just like,
[1:11:47] Speaker 1: we're just gonna run the football. We just want to
[1:11:49] Speaker 1: get out of here. We got a lead, we just
[1:11:51] Speaker 1: want to get out of the stadium healthy. So they
[1:11:54] Speaker 1: were falling apart a wide receiver. And I think that's
[1:11:57] Speaker 1: a much harder win than people think. You go to Iowa, Iowa,
[1:12:01] Speaker 1: you know it's it's Ioway's got a good on line,
[1:12:04] Speaker 1: Iowa can run the ball that Iowa's got six pros.
[1:12:07] Speaker 1: They always have six pros on their team. So and
[1:12:09] Speaker 1: it's pissing raining sideways. I thought it was a really
[1:12:12] Speaker 1: impressive Oregon win.
[1:12:14] Speaker 2: I think winning on the road in college in the
[1:12:17] Speaker 2: Big Ten in the SEC, like winning at Auburn is
[1:12:19] Speaker 2: very impressive. Winning at Iowa in November eighth is a
[1:12:23] Speaker 2: great win. I'm not a good win, a great that
[1:12:26] Speaker 2: feels like one of the better Oregon regular season wins
[1:12:30] Speaker 2: in a long long time. Like that that was if
[1:12:33] Speaker 2: you come away anything, Oh it's Iowa, They're gonna win
[1:12:35] Speaker 2: nine games. But who do they beat Well, they probably
[1:12:37] Speaker 2: got four guys on defense. They're gonna start in the NFL.
[1:12:40] Speaker 2: They have one of the more respected programs from gms
[1:12:43] Speaker 2: and coaches in the NFL, and they win eight or
[1:12:47] Speaker 2: nine games for a reason in that conference. Like they're
[1:12:50] Speaker 2: a well and how cold it is? This is what
[1:12:52] Speaker 2: I say about the Caleb Williams thing today. I don't
[1:12:54] Speaker 2: think people realize you're at what was the weather today?
[1:12:57] Speaker 1: I mean, is it snowing and snow on my lawn?
[1:13:01] Speaker 2: It's you know, how hard is to play football in that?
[1:13:04] Speaker 2: I just how cold your feet are? Your hands are
[1:13:07] Speaker 2: as skill guys? That I was the throw. Mendoza made
[1:13:11] Speaker 2: some huge throws on that final drive. I would say
[1:13:13] Speaker 2: Dante Moores that throw he made down the right sideline.
[1:13:17] Speaker 2: Those couple throws from Mendoza and Moore's throw there, that's
[1:13:20] Speaker 2: as good as you get. That's as good as it gets.
[1:13:23] Speaker 1: No, I mean to me, Dante Moore and Mendoz I
[1:13:25] Speaker 1: have separated. Those are the two best college quarterbacks. If
[1:13:28] Speaker 1: they come out, they're one and two in some order.
[1:13:30] Speaker 1: I like Dante Moors wiggle, he moves really well, really impressive.
[1:13:35] Speaker 1: All right, John hard Rock, bet I have not been
[1:13:38] Speaker 1: good on Monday Night Football've had a great year, blazing five.
[1:13:41] Speaker 1: I keep taking all these favorites in Monday Night football.
[1:13:44] Speaker 1: So green Bay Lambeau at home minus now one and
[1:13:47] Speaker 1: a half. I like Philadelphia in the points. I liked
[1:13:51] Speaker 1: it when it was two and a half better than
[1:13:52] Speaker 1: one and a half. But it's off a bye. I
[1:13:57] Speaker 1: felt last time they played, Philadelphia really found themselves. I
[1:14:03] Speaker 1: like their roster. I think my concern with Green Bay
[1:14:05] Speaker 1: is what are they They've got some key injuries now,
[1:14:10] Speaker 1: Tucker Craft gone for the year. I think he's a
[1:14:12] Speaker 1: Pro Bowl tight end. Reid's been banged up. I think
[1:14:17] Speaker 1: Philadelphia has found their identity, and I'm not sure green
[1:14:21] Speaker 1: Bay offensively knows what there is. I like Philadelphia to
[1:14:26] Speaker 1: win outright.
[1:14:27] Speaker 2: I've been going against you on Monday Night, but I'm
[1:14:29] Speaker 2: gonna ride with you. I think there's a chance if
[1:14:31] Speaker 2: the Eagles are up fourteen to three or fourteen to seven,
[1:14:34] Speaker 2: going I think you get some booze. I think there
[1:14:36] Speaker 2: is growing pressure on the floor losing these games that
[1:14:40] Speaker 2: they should win as big favorites. Now, like you said,
[1:14:42] Speaker 2: the Eagles don't only how often do the Eagles fly
[1:14:44] Speaker 2: under the radar? Coming into a big game. But they've
[1:14:47] Speaker 2: added Jalen Phillips. They added a couple of corners, Jau Alexander.
[1:14:51] Speaker 2: I'm with you. I like the Eagles in this spot
[1:14:53] Speaker 2: because I think the pressure is all on green Bay.
[1:14:57] Speaker 2: All right, buddy, great job, See you Colin the volume
