[0:01] Speaker 1: The volume. This week's Crunch Time performer, brought to you
[0:06] Speaker 1: by McDonald's new Buffalo Ranch Sauce, is Jonathan Taylor. Wow
[0:10] Speaker 1: was he great? Went to Berlin, carried the Colts on
[0:13] Speaker 1: his back two hundred and forty four rushing yards, three touchdowns,
[0:18] Speaker 1: and the Colts wild come from behind overtime went over
[0:22] Speaker 1: the Falcons. Taylor's performance was satisfying, just like the first
[0:26] Speaker 1: spite of the bacon, creamy Buffalo MA crispy all right,
[0:34] Speaker 1: sharpest young boys in college football, Josh Paate. I love
[0:38] Speaker 1: having him on. I got to tell you, through the years,
[0:41] Speaker 1: when I talked to most of my sources aren't players
[0:44] Speaker 1: or coaches. They've always been executives. Because I probably absurdly
[0:49] Speaker 1: of Oa's fashion myself is, if I didn't do this,
[0:52] Speaker 1: I'd want to be a GM, not a coach, not
[0:55] Speaker 1: a player. I like all the architecture of building stuff,
[0:59] Speaker 1: and when you talk to them about players. I remember
[1:02] Speaker 1: when Josh Allen came out of Wyoming and I would
[1:04] Speaker 1: talk to gms and they're like, Okay, did you see
[1:07] Speaker 1: the throw against You know it wasn't against Oregon or Iowa.
[1:11] Speaker 1: There's a throw and it was It's remarkable how often
[1:15] Speaker 1: it's a play, a moment, a drive, and a scout
[1:18] Speaker 1: goes Okay. The Penn State game for Sam Darnold at
[1:21] Speaker 1: the Rose Bowl, that's the one everybody went, whoa, whoa,
[1:24] Speaker 1: this is this is different Fernando Mendoza. So first of all,
[1:29] Speaker 1: he was going to go to Yale. He settled on
[1:31] Speaker 1: col So the kids obviously in Indiana's a good school.
[1:35] Speaker 1: So we know he's got brain power. We know he's
[1:36] Speaker 1: six five, we know all that stuff. That last drive
[1:41] Speaker 1: on the road, Penn State couldn't run.
[1:46] Speaker 2: Face.
[1:46] Speaker 1: The defense made three throws, the one in the back
[1:49] Speaker 1: of the end zone. Like I'm like, okay, that's a
[1:52] Speaker 1: Sunday player. That's not normal. That's Herbert at Oregon, you know,
[1:57] Speaker 1: carrying average people around him. Not average. But cause I
[2:01] Speaker 1: think I think Indiana's got good players. They don't have
[2:04] Speaker 1: Ohio State guys. Maybe, But I watched that drive and
[2:07] Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, he has to come out. That's the
[2:09] Speaker 1: number one player in college football. I don't care about
[2:12] Speaker 1: Ohio State's linebackers and corners. That's the impression it had
[2:15] Speaker 1: on me. It was just sitting on the couch going,
[2:17] Speaker 1: oh my god, this looks like Sunday. What was your
[2:20] Speaker 1: takeaway on it?
[2:21] Speaker 2: I thought it was there are very few moments like this,
[2:25] Speaker 2: but I was watching it in an airport. First off,
[2:28] Speaker 2: seeing a big sporting moment, seeing a big football moment
[2:31] Speaker 2: in an airport, it's always unique because it's really a
[2:34] Speaker 2: unique setting and you're not there often if you cover
[2:37] Speaker 2: the game. So that was number one, was just to
[2:39] Speaker 2: take away of how surreal it is that Wow, the
[2:41] Speaker 2: entire world's fixated on Indiana football in this moment. I
[2:45] Speaker 2: thought it was one of those moments where you see
[2:48] Speaker 2: someone come of age, like you know someone's got potential
[2:51] Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, it just happens. And
[2:53] Speaker 2: sometimes it's just a moment, like sometimes guys just hit
[2:57] Speaker 2: a lucky shot or make a lucky throw, but it's rare.
[3:01] Speaker 2: You don't get lucky three times like that on the
[3:02] Speaker 2: same drive. It's something that's in you. It's potential you have.
[3:06] Speaker 2: And it's not that he hasn't shown flashes. If you're
[3:09] Speaker 2: paying attention to college football, he knew about him. If
[3:12] Speaker 2: you're paying attention to the Mott drafts, you know about him.
[3:14] Speaker 2: But you've been waiting for that. Okay, So like thought
[3:17] Speaker 2: you were talking about scouting there. I've always sort of
[3:20] Speaker 2: disagreed with the approach of boiling down a player in
[3:24] Speaker 2: your mind to like highlight culture like I think of
[3:27] Speaker 2: one or two grows. I've always wanted to shave the
[3:29] Speaker 2: best and the worst off and take what's in the middle,
[3:31] Speaker 2: and that's the player, and that's hundreds and hundreds and
[3:34] Speaker 2: hundreds of plays. But with Mendoza, he's lesser known to
[3:38] Speaker 2: the general public. You just I guarantee you there's a
[3:41] Speaker 2: whole army of college football fans out there that know
[3:43] Speaker 2: the name Fernando Mendoza and they know he's the quarterback
[3:46] Speaker 2: in Indiana. They probably hadn't even watched him a whole lot.
[3:49] Speaker 2: That was when they saw him, and that that matters
[3:51] Speaker 2: for your Heisman crowd, But that also matters for that
[3:55] Speaker 2: locker room. It's one thing to go in there when
[3:57] Speaker 2: thirty eight to ten, like A and M just went
[3:58] Speaker 2: and took care of Missouri and Marcel Reid didn't have
[4:01] Speaker 2: to do on that Saturday what Fernando Mendoza did, and
[4:05] Speaker 2: I just could not help. But in the moments afterwards,
[4:09] Speaker 2: go back to Oregon. Last year, Oregon just goes wire
[4:12] Speaker 2: to wire undefeated. Yeah, Dad, one like close games early
[4:16] Speaker 2: before they got their act together, and they go undefeated
[4:18] Speaker 2: and they're totally clean, and they go in the playoff
[4:20] Speaker 2: first round by and then they get Ohio State and
[4:23] Speaker 2: they just get drug And that was the first time
[4:25] Speaker 2: they really tasted their blood. And Indiana looked like they
[4:28] Speaker 2: were on a trajectory to maybe do that, and instead
[4:32] Speaker 2: they didn't have to suffer the consequences of loss, but
[4:35] Speaker 2: they dealt with something. They dealt with having a crawl
[4:37] Speaker 2: over broken glass to get a win. And I mean,
[4:39] Speaker 2: I'm never going to be in a major college football
[4:41] Speaker 2: locker room as a player, but I cannot imagine what
[4:44] Speaker 2: that flight home was like. I can't imagine what it's
[4:46] Speaker 2: like to look in the mirror. Man as him, Just
[4:49] Speaker 2: look in the mirror. Everyone's been talking you up. But
[4:51] Speaker 2: sometimes there can be a little imposter syndrome, there can
[4:54] Speaker 2: be a little silk doubt. There can be none of
[4:56] Speaker 2: that with him anymore. It was amazing to watch.
[4:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, a great second half. Penn State marched up and
[5:01] Speaker 1: down the field with their backup quarterback over and over
[5:04] Speaker 1: and over, and you were like, oh my, we got,
[5:06] Speaker 1: we got I almost tweeted who's your daddy. I was
[5:11] Speaker 1: so close to the play on words. I was like,
[5:12] Speaker 1: we're gonna We're gonna get an upset. And then he
[5:15] Speaker 1: took that ball and I was just like, Wow, that's impressive.
[5:19] Speaker 1: You know. The this weekend Oklahoma Bama, I like Bama, Iowa,
[5:24] Speaker 1: USC take the points. I think it's twenty seven to
[5:27] Speaker 1: twenty six either way. Iowa was a tough matchup on USC, Texas, Georgia.
[5:32] Speaker 1: I'll take Georgia. When the rankings came out this week,
[5:40] Speaker 1: I want to talk about Kaylen de Bor. That's all
[5:42] Speaker 1: I want to talk about. So I said, when when
[5:45] Speaker 1: Saban left and Kaylen de Borg took over, I said,
[5:47] Speaker 1: that's the greatest handoff in the history of college football.
[5:52] Speaker 1: Generally you give it to somebody on the staff because
[5:54] Speaker 1: that's what the players want. It doesn't work where you
[5:57] Speaker 1: bring in somebody and the culture doesn't work. He's just
[5:59] Speaker 1: a winning guy. And Kaylen de boor Sioux falls, Fresno State,
[6:07] Speaker 1: but Washington he was twenty five and three. People assumed, well,
[6:11] Speaker 1: it's Bama. He didn't have to rebuild anything. I said, no,
[6:14] Speaker 1: the time out. Now it's a whole different ballgame. This
[6:16] Speaker 1: is Bama Nil as a whole different ballgame. Secondly, he
[6:21] Speaker 1: is different than Nick and there's gonna be things He
[6:23] Speaker 1: likes coordinators he does doesn't. I'm like he was almost
[6:27] Speaker 1: punished because everybody thought Nick handed him a Rolls Royce
[6:30] Speaker 1: and I'm like, no, he handed him a used Rolls Royce.
[6:33] Speaker 1: It wasn't as dominant as it was two years earlier.
[6:35] Speaker 1: Georgia now had as good or better players, and the
[6:38] Speaker 1: nil world had changed. Texas now could just buy players.
[6:42] Speaker 1: So if you watch Bama and you watch Kaylan de
[6:49] Speaker 1: Boor with quarterbacks, I think Ohio State's the best team
[6:54] Speaker 1: I've seen. I think Bama's two. I think Bama is
[6:57] Speaker 1: the second best team in the country. I don't think
[6:59] Speaker 1: Indiana White has the personnel, and M's beaten a lot
[7:03] Speaker 1: of teams that fire their coaches, so I'm not quite
[7:06] Speaker 1: sure I buy that. Yet they haven't played like ol
[7:09] Speaker 1: Miss Oklahoma. George Obama, what do you make of Kaelin
[7:13] Speaker 1: de Boor, the doubters, the critics, and where they are.
[7:16] Speaker 2: I mean, a lot of the doubt and the criticism
[7:18] Speaker 2: was just folks wanting Alabama to fall off. It's been
[7:20] Speaker 2: a long time since you could really take reasonable shots
[7:24] Speaker 2: at Alabama. And I grew up in the South, so like,
[7:26] Speaker 2: I know the vibe about Alabama around the South. So
[7:30] Speaker 2: there's some of it where people are kind of wish casting,
[7:32] Speaker 2: they're hoping that they're right about doubting Kaylen de Bor.
[7:36] Speaker 2: And then there was another crowd that just flat out,
[7:38] Speaker 2: you know, thought that he took, like you said, a
[7:41] Speaker 2: seamless baton handoff and it should be full stride in
[7:45] Speaker 2: any kind of fall off, any kind of looking at
[7:48] Speaker 2: the clock, and oh we're off pace a little bit.
[7:50] Speaker 2: That indicates that he's an impost. And then you get
[7:53] Speaker 2: to backfill with all these pre cooked theories people have
[7:55] Speaker 2: in the South about how well, if you're not from here,
[7:58] Speaker 2: you can't recruit here, and how's he going to recruit Alabama?
[8:00] Speaker 2: And he didn't know this place, he didn't know the culture.
[8:02] Speaker 2: So you know, the same stuff they said about Brian
[8:04] Speaker 2: Kelly ended up being valid not because he wasn't from
[8:07] Speaker 2: the South. It's because he didn't work to the degree
[8:09] Speaker 2: you need to work at light. So the thing about
[8:13] Speaker 2: Kaylan is the style he won with at Washington's what
[8:16] Speaker 2: you need to pay the most attention to. The twenty
[8:18] Speaker 2: twenty three Washington season, what they have like seven to
[8:21] Speaker 2: one possession wins or something like that. So they were
[8:23] Speaker 2: winning a bunch of close games, but there's so much
[8:26] Speaker 2: there's some randomized nature to that. But when you get
[8:29] Speaker 2: a big sample size of one possession games and you're
[8:32] Speaker 2: that good in one possession games, there's more than just
[8:36] Speaker 2: luck to that that skill. Bama had been used to
[8:39] Speaker 2: win in forty two to ten, and so he's come
[8:41] Speaker 2: down here, and even in the games where they're winning,
[8:45] Speaker 2: it's it's a lot of what he did at Washington.
[8:47] Speaker 2: It's one possession games, and it aggravates people so much
[8:50] Speaker 2: because they want to run for two hundred and fifty
[8:52] Speaker 2: yards and they can't run the ball this year, and
[8:54] Speaker 2: yet they're still scaling their offense despite not being able
[8:57] Speaker 2: to run the ball, which I think is the biggest
[8:59] Speaker 2: feather in the cap of time. Simpson, Mendoza's doing it
[9:01] Speaker 2: with a ground game, Julian's doing it with a ground game.
[9:04] Speaker 2: Bamaca't run, and Ty Simpson still does it. That's all
[9:07] Speaker 2: I would say about him if I were promoting him
[9:09] Speaker 2: for the Heisman. But debor year one in that building
[9:12] Speaker 2: this week, Colin a year ago they were in the
[9:15] Speaker 2: thick of the playoff race. They're going to go to Oklahoma.
[9:17] Speaker 2: They get their doors blown off, blown off. That was
[9:21] Speaker 2: really when the ant bed got kicked. That's really when
[9:24] Speaker 2: all the rumors started spilling out. That's when all the
[9:27] Speaker 2: you know, the truth started getting dealt because they didn't
[9:29] Speaker 2: feel like they had anything left to play for. So
[9:31] Speaker 2: you start hearing some grumbling and you start really finding
[9:34] Speaker 2: out how oil and water that building had been. Some
[9:38] Speaker 2: of the old guards, some of the new guard. And
[9:41] Speaker 2: he walked in, and I want to remind everyone he
[9:43] Speaker 2: walked in. It the weirdest possible time maybe in the
[9:48] Speaker 2: recent history of college athletics, because he takes the job.
[9:51] Speaker 2: Saban retires and it was weird, like an early January
[9:53] Speaker 2: kind of thing. So he takes the job, and the
[9:57] Speaker 2: portal opens for thirty days, but they can't take They
[10:00] Speaker 2: can only lose for thirty days, and you patch it
[10:04] Speaker 2: up as best you can't. Julian saying, was there by
[10:06] Speaker 2: the way he leaves? Caleb Downs was there he leaves. Well,
[10:10] Speaker 2: then you go through spring ball and I remember talking
[10:12] Speaker 2: to him about this after it happened, and he didn't
[10:16] Speaker 2: make any excuses. I was almost trying to make excuses
[10:18] Speaker 2: for him. But it was a situation where you had
[10:22] Speaker 2: to run your spring practice knowing that after spring ball,
[10:26] Speaker 2: when you really want to get down guy's throats and
[10:28] Speaker 2: you want to try and install as much culture as
[10:29] Speaker 2: you can, they could just leave. There's a post spring
[10:32] Speaker 2: portal window and they could bail on you. These aren't
[10:35] Speaker 2: your players. You didn't recruit them. How are you going
[10:37] Speaker 2: to have a roster going into the season. So they
[10:39] Speaker 2: had to kid glove their way through springball a little bit.
[10:42] Speaker 2: And even then, like you get to the fall and
[10:45] Speaker 2: you're kind of you're trying to build the plane in
[10:48] Speaker 2: the air, and it used to be a nice plane,
[10:51] Speaker 2: and so no one's going to accept any kind of
[10:53] Speaker 2: turbulence up there. And that Oklahoma game is where it
[10:55] Speaker 2: really came undone a little bit, and that's where you
[10:57] Speaker 2: really started hearing it. So it's so crazy to fast
[11:00] Speaker 2: forward a year from now. It just so happens to
[11:02] Speaker 2: be they're in the thick of it again. Oklahoma's coming
[11:05] Speaker 2: in again. I'm interested that you said you like Bama
[11:08] Speaker 2: because a lot of people like Oklahoma. This week. I
[11:10] Speaker 2: love Bama this week. I'm interested in why it is
[11:13] Speaker 2: you like Bama because I got one reason.
[11:15] Speaker 1: Well, I guess my take is I think I think
[11:22] Speaker 1: the offensive coaching at Bama. I tend to believe that
[11:26] Speaker 1: offensive coaches are tinkers. So I think Deborr and his coordinator,
[11:33] Speaker 1: you know, like when they went to Georgia, you're like, oh,
[11:35] Speaker 1: that's a that's a perfect game plan. I think defensive
[11:39] Speaker 1: coaches venables tend to have this is what we are,
[11:43] Speaker 1: and we're just going to be more forceful. I tend
[11:46] Speaker 1: to think with defensive teams, you often get what you get,
[11:48] Speaker 1: and you get it by like week four. I think
[11:51] Speaker 1: offensive coaches Ryan Day is a great example. Last year, God,
[11:55] Speaker 1: you watched the Michigan game, then a week later you
[11:56] Speaker 1: watch Tennessee, and then a week later you watch Oregon.
[11:58] Speaker 1: You're like, oh shit, they didn't peak until the second
[12:01] Speaker 1: week of the playoff. They're tinkers. Chip Kelly was always that,
[12:05] Speaker 1: he was always tinkering. So I tend to think Alabama
[12:10] Speaker 1: is just getting better. They're just every week. I feel
[12:14] Speaker 1: like they're two possessions better. Whereas I feel kind of
[12:17] Speaker 1: like I know what Oklahoma is. I've seen the best
[12:20] Speaker 1: of Oklahoma that's very good, But I think zero ten
[12:25] Speaker 1: being the best one being not good. I think Alabama
[12:29] Speaker 1: is about a seven. I think they're going to get
[12:30] Speaker 1: to about an eight and a half. Now Ohio State's
[12:33] Speaker 1: a nine, and they may just stay there. But it's
[12:35] Speaker 1: why I think Bama's the second best team in the country.
[12:38] Speaker 1: I think they've got a tinker as a coach. I
[12:40] Speaker 1: watched them at I watched them at Washington. Just manipulate,
[12:44] Speaker 1: Tinker improve Anyway, that's my take is that I think
[12:48] Speaker 1: four weeks ago I may have felt differently. I think
[12:51] Speaker 1: the offensive coach over the defensive culture.
[12:53] Speaker 2: I like Bama, So I'm with you. They are beating
[12:57] Speaker 2: people on Saturday a lot. Staff wise, they are. They
[13:00] Speaker 2: got one of the best stats in the country offensively, especially,
[13:04] Speaker 2: So here's what's interesting about that. If you watch the
[13:07] Speaker 2: LSU game last week, they're coming out of a by Theoretically,
[13:10] Speaker 2: you should just be shot out of a cannon. We're
[13:12] Speaker 2: ready to peak in November they won twenty to nine.
[13:15] Speaker 2: I think it was if you watch the game, you
[13:18] Speaker 2: saw how much meat was left on the bone. Offensively,
[13:20] Speaker 2: you saw how much like just off the fingertips type
[13:23] Speaker 2: explosive passes they missed on. And I think that is
[13:27] Speaker 2: part one of the separation. Saturday, you just you focus
[13:31] Speaker 2: on precision and accuracy all week after a game like that.
[13:34] Speaker 2: And then number two, Oklahoma's real hallmark is they can
[13:38] Speaker 2: shut you down running the ball. I'd almost feel more
[13:40] Speaker 2: uncomfortable for Alabama if part of their offense was built
[13:44] Speaker 2: on the ground game. They already don't do anything on
[13:46] Speaker 2: the ground. Lesser teams have shut them down running the ball.
[13:49] Speaker 2: So what Oklahoma's built to take away you can't take
[13:52] Speaker 2: away from Obama because they already don't do it. And
[13:54] Speaker 2: yet they still scale their passing game anyway. And the
[13:56] Speaker 2: two other offenses that they've seen that can do through
[13:59] Speaker 2: the air what bamacam or Ole miss and Tennessee and
[14:02] Speaker 2: I think one of them through for three nineteen and
[14:04] Speaker 2: the other one through for three eighty or something like
[14:06] Speaker 2: that against them. So it's going to be a real
[14:08] Speaker 2: high profile game. It'll be a good fight. I think
[14:10] Speaker 2: Alabama's gonna have one in the thing by double digits
[14:13] Speaker 2: in the end.

[15:16] Speaker 1: conditions apply. Concerned about gambling in Florida, call one eighty
[15:19] Speaker 1: and eight. Admit it. In Indiana. If you are somebody
[15:21] Speaker 1: you know as a problem wants help, call one eight
[15:23] Speaker 1: hundred and nine with it. Gambling problem called one eight
[15:26] Speaker 1: hundred gambler Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, Iowa, USC.
[15:35] Speaker 1: Let's talk about it so Iowa can make things difficult
[15:39] Speaker 1: for your past game as usual, well coached, have a
[15:43] Speaker 1: handful of NFL bodies above average offensive line. I think
[15:47] Speaker 1: one of the things I noticed about Illinois about Notre
[15:50] Speaker 1: Dame and Northwestern did it to a degree last week.
[15:54] Speaker 1: You can run right at USC. Northwestern did it. There's
[15:59] Speaker 1: things they've gotten better at their cornerback play. Like with USC,
[16:03] Speaker 1: you can see the coaching and their offense now is
[16:06] Speaker 1: a walk on, true walk on freshman running back because
[16:10] Speaker 1: they're all beat up and it hasn't hurt their running
[16:12] Speaker 1: game at all, which is remarkable. Jade and Mayava most
[16:16] Speaker 1: improved quarterback in college football. I just can't even believe
[16:18] Speaker 1: what I'm watching. Two years ago I watched them at UNLV,
[16:21] Speaker 1: I'm like, he's a runner. I didn't even throw it then.
[16:23] Speaker 1: Last year at USC, I'm like, I don't like him
[16:25] Speaker 1: throwing it, especially over the middle of the field. I
[16:27] Speaker 1: don't trust him. Now, I'm like, that's a second round
[16:29] Speaker 1: draft pick. That's a real quarterback. I think Iowa was
[16:33] Speaker 1: a really tough matchup. I also think they play Oregon
[16:37] Speaker 1: the next week. Chance to look ahead, any chance in
[16:40] Speaker 1: your eyes Iowa b TESTC.
[16:42] Speaker 2: Sure there is. I'm looking at a forecast and we're
[16:45] Speaker 2: get we got heavy rain in La Saturday. I don't
[16:47] Speaker 2: know what's happening. So the only thing that changes, the
[16:50] Speaker 2: only thing that changes about the game that they played
[16:52] Speaker 2: last week against Oregon is the venue at about twenty
[16:55] Speaker 2: five degrees. And that's your forecast for Saturday. So you know,
[16:59] Speaker 2: you would think yourself, Oh, that heavily favors Iowa. Who knows,
[17:02] Speaker 2: Maybe it does. I just know if I'm USC, I'm
[17:06] Speaker 2: drawing heavily on the fact that I ran it for
[17:08] Speaker 2: two twenty plus against Michigan, I ran it for over
[17:12] Speaker 2: two hundred on the road against Nebraska, and I watched
[17:15] Speaker 2: Oregon run it for two sixty against Iowa last week.
[17:19] Speaker 2: So yeah, are they gonna run on us? Probably? Iowa
[17:22] Speaker 2: runs the ball to a certain extent on everyone. But
[17:25] Speaker 2: the difference is now we think we can run it.
[17:29] Speaker 2: It's been proven that you can run it on them.
[17:31] Speaker 2: And I mean, look, at some point, if you're gonna
[17:35] Speaker 2: exist and thrive in the Big ten, you gotta do
[17:37] Speaker 2: what Organ did last week. You gotta win a Big
[17:39] Speaker 2: ten game. I thought the most impressive thing Oregon did
[17:41] Speaker 2: was they played Iowa's game and beat Iowa. Playing Iowa's game, yeah,
[17:45] Speaker 2: they're gonna drag you in there. The weather's not gonna
[17:48] Speaker 2: help already, but I was gonna drag you in there.
[17:50] Speaker 2: You just you gotta be able to come out of
[17:53] Speaker 2: there cut up and bleeding all over the place, but
[17:55] Speaker 2: holding a w because you're not gonna finesse your way
[17:58] Speaker 2: through the Big Ten. What you can do is you
[18:00] Speaker 2: can hit a couple of explosive plays in the process
[18:03] Speaker 2: of playing that style of ball. But I agree with
[18:06] Speaker 2: you final score projection, I agree with you. Now turnovers
[18:09] Speaker 2: can be the difference there. So there's a lot a
[18:11] Speaker 2: lot higher variance when you play a condensed kind of
[18:14] Speaker 2: game like that. I actually think Southern cow is going
[18:17] Speaker 2: to find a way to get the job done. If
[18:19] Speaker 2: they don't, though, do you understand you understand I hope
[18:22] Speaker 2: everyone else understands how big a hinge moment this is
[18:25] Speaker 2: for Lincoln, because if they win it, it's super Bowl
[18:29] Speaker 2: time in Eugene. It's playoff on the line, big ten
[18:32] Speaker 2: stuff on the line. If they lose this Saturday, that's
[18:35] Speaker 2: a three loss team almost inevitably headed for a fourth loss,
[18:40] Speaker 2: at which point you know what the noise is going
[18:42] Speaker 2: to sound like around there.
[18:43] Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I've said this, you know, and I've said this.
[18:47] Speaker 1: Once college football the playoff is expanded to twelve teams,
[18:52] Speaker 1: all these romantic rivalries are in doubt, and I got
[18:58] Speaker 1: a lot of angry bonds. As I said, I would
[19:01] Speaker 1: reconsider the Notre Dame. I would go to Notre Dame
[19:04] Speaker 1: if I was Jen Cohen, because what's interesting here, Josh.
[19:09] Speaker 1: If they beat Iowa, and I think they will, I'm
[19:13] Speaker 1: gonna go twenty seven twenty six, twenty eight, twenty seven
[19:15] Speaker 1: and lose to Oregon, they would make the playoff had
[19:18] Speaker 1: they not played Notre Dame and then they'd stuck in Fresno,
[19:22] Speaker 1: they'd have a close loss on the road to Illinois.
[19:25] Speaker 1: And I think they'll be competitive against Oregon. Although Oregon
[19:28] Speaker 1: hits on a lot of big plays in USC gives
[19:31] Speaker 1: up big play, so it's kind of a weird matchup.
[19:34] Speaker 1: But they would make the playoffs with two losses because
[19:35] Speaker 1: they'd have enough impressive wins. So you know, my take
[19:40] Speaker 1: on USC Notre Dame is Jen Cohen should go in
[19:43] Speaker 1: and say you need it more than we do. We're
[19:45] Speaker 1: in the Big ten. I don't need another cold weather
[19:47] Speaker 1: opponent in November. We'll play you every other year has
[19:52] Speaker 1: to be in September. We can start in Notre Dame.
[19:54] Speaker 1: But I'm not playing you late. I'm not doing that.
[19:56] Speaker 1: I'm gonna squeeze you between Georgia Southern and Fresno State.
[20:01] Speaker 1: I'm not playing yet after Ohio State and before Oregon
[20:04] Speaker 1: get lost. But it is interesting because I think USC
[20:07] Speaker 1: is gonna win, and I think they're gonna be competitive
[20:09] Speaker 1: against Oregon, although Oregon's receiving core may be healthier. But
[20:15] Speaker 1: I said, I think I told you this. Lincoln Riley
[20:19] Speaker 1: is Matt Lafleur. I know he's smart, he's on the
[20:22] Speaker 1: right side of the ball. He's good with quarterbacks, play
[20:25] Speaker 1: designer to play caller, gets a little prickly with the media.
[20:28] Speaker 1: I don't know if he's a culture guy. I like
[20:30] Speaker 1: everything else. I know he's smart, I know he played designs.
[20:33] Speaker 1: I've watched every snap at USC. I know Lincoln's bright.
[20:37] Speaker 1: Don't know if he's got that Vrabel Harbaugh of Chris
[20:43] Speaker 1: Peterson culture building thing. Not sure if he does, but
[20:48] Speaker 1: I think they'll win it. Texas at Georgia, this just
[20:52] Speaker 1: feels like Georgia arch Manning has played better. Georgia's note
[21:00] Speaker 1: is dominant is two years ago. I think the whole
[21:02] Speaker 1: nil things given us some Texas techs, and it's peeled
[21:06] Speaker 1: back on the dominance of SEC teams at the top.
[21:09] Speaker 1: I like Georgia, what say you?
[21:12] Speaker 2: I got to also just before I talk about the
[21:15] Speaker 2: game man the conference expansion stuff specifically for the SEC.
[21:19] Speaker 2: I don't really know that people fully appreciate what this
[21:22] Speaker 2: has been like down here. Do you have any idea
[21:24] Speaker 2: what it's like to watch Texas come into Athens, Georgia
[21:27] Speaker 2: on a Saturday night and the same time you got
[21:31] Speaker 2: one broadcast network having all these games. By the way,
[21:33] Speaker 2: four hours earlier, you will have watched Oklahoma go into Alabama.
[21:37] Speaker 2: And that used to be like once a decade out
[21:39] Speaker 2: of conference stuff, not just conference rotation, just conference games,
[21:42] Speaker 2: really crazy, just in the best of ways. So if
[21:46] Speaker 2: I were to have told you in July and you
[21:49] Speaker 2: don't know anything about the upcoming season, I just told you,
[21:52] Speaker 2: all right, Colin Texas Georgia is gonna be a big
[21:54] Speaker 2: time games second week of November. I'm guaranteeing you the
[21:57] Speaker 2: game is going to come down to quarterback play. How
[21:59] Speaker 2: would you have felt about that edge wise in July,
[22:02] Speaker 2: because I think that's how the game boils down. And
[22:05] Speaker 2: I don't think we're going to go the way on
[22:07] Speaker 2: that answer that we would have in July unless we
[22:10] Speaker 2: think the sample size from the last couple of games
[22:13] Speaker 2: of arch Manning is a sign that that thing that
[22:17] Speaker 2: you hope happens in week one is finally happening. But
[22:20] Speaker 2: it's happening in week twelve. Now. If it is, Texas
[22:23] Speaker 2: can go in there, because Texas pressures the quarterback way
[22:25] Speaker 2: more than Georgia does. So gun Stockton's got a bigger
[22:28] Speaker 2: hill to climb here then Texas does and arch Manning does.
[22:31] Speaker 2: But if that thing that seems to happen every year
[22:35] Speaker 2: in November with some player where he just finally finds
[22:38] Speaker 2: his group, if that's happening with arch Manning, the most
[22:41] Speaker 2: important thing in this game is tackles in space, in
[22:44] Speaker 2: yards after catch. I think it was Matt Vogel. You
[22:47] Speaker 2: want to get proper credit. I think it was Matt Vogel.
[22:49] Speaker 2: I saw that put out a stat that these two
[22:51] Speaker 2: quarterbacks are number one and number two in the league
[22:54] Speaker 2: and passes behind the line of scrimmage, which stands to reason.
[22:56] Speaker 2: They recruit great athletes. They want to get the ball
[22:58] Speaker 2: to him quick, get it in space, make someone miss.
[23:02] Speaker 2: So that's probably where this game gets decided. I just
[23:05] Speaker 2: wonder to myself, I watched Texas get two shots at
[23:08] Speaker 2: Georgia last year and they get physically just bent twice.
[23:12] Speaker 2: Not supposed to happen when you recruit and developed like Texas.
[23:15] Speaker 2: It was a very very big pride shot I thought
[23:18] Speaker 2: for them. Yeah, And so you know, they're eleven and
[23:22] Speaker 2: three in conference games since joining the league. Two of
[23:24] Speaker 2: the losses were last year to Georgia, and now they
[23:27] Speaker 2: get another shot at them. And the reason I'm leaning
[23:30] Speaker 2: Georgia in the game is I can make you a
[23:32] Speaker 2: case for Texas. I just think at some point as
[23:35] Speaker 2: a staff, you got to show me, like, as the
[23:38] Speaker 2: overall MO of a program, I know what Georgia and
[23:41] Speaker 2: Kirby is I never have to question that.
[23:43] Speaker 1: That's right.
[23:44] Speaker 2: It's crazy that you think to yourself, or I think
[23:47] Speaker 2: to myself. This far into the sark tenure, there's still
[23:50] Speaker 2: a lot we haven't figured out about what Steve Sarkesian's
[23:54] Speaker 2: Texas is. That's why knights like that are so important
[23:57] Speaker 2: this weekend.
[23:58] Speaker 1: I think that's perfectly put and it's really interesting. Mac
[24:04] Speaker 1: Brown's teams I think had a better identity. Sometimes Texas
[24:10] Speaker 1: can be pretty. They can be pretty. I've said this
[24:15] Speaker 1: when USC and Texas played. I was at that game.
[24:18] Speaker 1: That was the most beautiful college football game of all time.
[24:22] Speaker 1: The sunset, the Rose Bowl, burnt orange, USC, the best
[24:27] Speaker 1: looking fans.
[24:28] Speaker 2: I mean it was you had to be at seven
[24:30] Speaker 2: to even get a ticket to the game.
[24:32] Speaker 1: It was Everything about the game was beautiful. It wasn't
[24:35] Speaker 1: the most physical game. It was just beautiful sports. Reggie
[24:39] Speaker 1: and Leonard and Vince and I've said that before. Maybe
[24:44] Speaker 1: it's because La is a pretty town in Austin is
[24:48] Speaker 1: music and food, but there is I know exactly one
[24:54] Speaker 1: of the first things. The Packers right now are a
[24:56] Speaker 1: broken team, and I'm like, what are they?
[24:59] Speaker 2: You know?
[25:00] Speaker 1: And I look at sarks Texas team, and I my
[25:04] Speaker 1: take is they're really talented, but I'm not sure exactly
[25:07] Speaker 1: what they are. And like Marcus Freeman takes over Notre
[25:11] Speaker 1: Dame an hour later, I'm like, oh, they're physical there.
[25:15] Speaker 1: This is gonna be like an uglier version of Brian's teams.
[25:17] Speaker 1: They are physical, they seek contact. The backs are like
[25:23] Speaker 1: Notre Dame has an absolute identity under Marcus Freeman. It
[25:27] Speaker 1: is smart. I mean, they're always smart, smart, physical, punishing.
[25:31] Speaker 1: They're gonna they want to run right between the tackles.
[25:33] Speaker 1: It's yards after contact, it's fight for every yard. I
[25:36] Speaker 1: don't know what Texas is good, talented, I don't know
[25:39] Speaker 1: what they are.
[25:40] Speaker 2: You know, what's totally fair to say about them the
[25:43] Speaker 2: exact same thing you just said about Lincoln. To this point,
[25:46] Speaker 2: it's fair to say the same thing about Sark. I
[25:49] Speaker 2: love the dude to death. I actively pull for him,
[25:52] Speaker 2: but there is a big difference. I mean, he's a clinician,
[25:55] Speaker 2: as a play caller, as an offensive mind. There are
[25:58] Speaker 2: very few that could even hang in a conversation with him.
[26:01] Speaker 2: But he's not the offensive coordinator alone there, he's the
[26:04] Speaker 2: head coach, and so you know, I'm looking at everything
[26:08] Speaker 2: that trickles down from the top, and if we're asking
[26:10] Speaker 2: that question this far in, look, maybe there's still some
[26:15] Speaker 2: development that happens there. I could say the same thing
[26:17] Speaker 2: about Lincoln. I know, those guys are old relative to
[26:20] Speaker 2: football minds, and they've been around a while. I mean, look,
[26:23] Speaker 2: Saban didn't win his first national title until he was
[26:25] Speaker 2: in his early fifties, and then he won seven of them.
[26:28] Speaker 2: So it's not the craziest concept that guys may still
[26:31] Speaker 2: be learning on the job a little bit, no.
[26:33] Speaker 1: I mean I talked to Tom Telesco as a GM
[26:36] Speaker 1: for the Chargers for years and the Raiders briefly, and
[26:39] Speaker 1: he said, it's a benefit in the NFL if you
[26:42] Speaker 1: hire a head coach who's great schematically. He goes to
[26:45] Speaker 1: Shanahan and Andy, he goes, you're really hiring CEOs. Well,
[26:50] Speaker 1: it's easier to be a CEO at fifty five than
[26:52] Speaker 1: forty five, like so much of I mean, Texas is
[26:55] Speaker 1: a pro job. I mean, especially now with Nil, it's
[26:58] Speaker 1: like a pro job. I mean you're dealing with is
[27:00] Speaker 1: It's just a different ballgame than than even USC. Texas
[27:03] Speaker 1: is bigger, and you know, I think you're you're you're learning.
[27:07] Speaker 1: I think it's like in life, everybody gets better. I
[27:11] Speaker 1: remember Patrick Mahomes saying the light went on year three
[27:14] Speaker 1: and you're like, you were the MVP year two, and
[27:16] Speaker 1: he's like, yeah, but everything's slowed down in year three.
[27:19] Speaker 1: So I think that I think that's I don't even
[27:21] Speaker 1: think it's a criticism of Sark. I think it's a reality.
[27:23] Speaker 1: Is he's just getting better at it. So Lane Kifton.
[27:26] Speaker 1: I've known Lane for a long time and I think
[27:28] Speaker 1: Lane's smart. I think he's again gotten better and better.
[27:31] Speaker 1: I made this argument is that you can bounce around
[27:35] Speaker 1: ole Miss Lsu. You can bounce around they're all. I
[27:38] Speaker 1: mean these guys these days. If ole Miss can pay ten,
[27:41] Speaker 1: LSU pays eleven, there's less pressure at ole Miss. I'd stay.
[27:44] Speaker 1: I'd stay ole Miss. It's Oxford's beautiful that I said.
[27:48] Speaker 1: I think actually he could be an NFL coach and
[27:52] Speaker 1: like Harball, he'd walk into the sport for the first
[27:54] Speaker 1: three years. He knows all these players way better than
[27:57] Speaker 1: your GM does. Also, like a Miami to because of
[28:02] Speaker 1: the contractual situation, is going to be your quarterback for
[28:04] Speaker 1: a year, but you probably got to draft your next quarterback,
[28:07] Speaker 1: and most of these guys are second round quarterbacks. Well,
[28:10] Speaker 1: he knows nuss Meyer, and he knows Simpson, he knows
[28:13] Speaker 1: all these guys. South Carolina kid, he knows all of them.
[28:18] Speaker 1: So by the second round, nobody's going to know those
[28:21] Speaker 1: quarterbacks better than Lane Kiffin. He either recruited him, played them,
[28:24] Speaker 1: played against him. Do you think Lane Kiffin, do you
[28:29] Speaker 1: think he's considering the NFL?
[28:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he is. I think several of them are.
[28:35] Speaker 2: I think there's some names considering the NFL that would
[28:37] Speaker 2: totally completely put jaws on the ground if the names
[28:40] Speaker 2: ever got public. I think these guys are always considering
[28:44] Speaker 2: the NFL. Now, you'd never get the truth out of
[28:47] Speaker 2: most of them, but yeah, I mean, look, you know,
[28:50] Speaker 2: the kind of mentality it takes to succeed at the
[28:53] Speaker 2: highest level of college football, especially if you specialize on
[28:57] Speaker 2: a side of the ball, goes hand in hand with
[28:59] Speaker 2: the kind of mentality that thinks I could win in
[29:01] Speaker 2: the NFL. I could win on Sundays. I want to
[29:03] Speaker 2: test myself against the best. I want to see how
[29:06] Speaker 2: my offense does, and especially with Lane, like you've got
[29:09] Speaker 2: the Oakland Raiders chapter in his past. You don't think
[29:13] Speaker 2: he wants to make good on that, dude. Yeah, I'm
[29:15] Speaker 2: a believer. I'm a believer Saban never did it. I'm
[29:18] Speaker 2: a believer he wanted to make good on the Miami
[29:20] Speaker 2: Dolphins part, like all of the other extracurriculum that comes
[29:24] Speaker 2: along with the NFL relative to college. But Yeah, I
[29:27] Speaker 2: think he would consider it. I think they actively consider
[29:30] Speaker 2: it all the time. What I don't know, and I
[29:34] Speaker 2: think this is really what the decision comes down to,
[29:36] Speaker 2: is what do you personally value the most beyond football?
[29:40] Speaker 2: Like some guys hate recruiting and they're looking at the
[29:42] Speaker 2: first exit door to get to the NFL. Right, Others
[29:44] Speaker 2: they think it's their wheelhouse. They think that's one of
[29:46] Speaker 2: their strongest suits. They actually love being around young people.
[29:49] Speaker 2: I will never forget when I was coming out of
[29:53] Speaker 2: college down in Columbus and I heard you talking about
[29:56] Speaker 2: Parcels one day and you described him as a meatball
[29:58] Speaker 2: with arms. That is what stuck with me. That is
[30:02] Speaker 2: what NFL coaches look like relative to college coaches, because
[30:06] Speaker 2: you're around adults all day instead of younger adults. So
[30:09] Speaker 2: past that, Yeah, I think he is considering it.
[30:14] Speaker 1: Hey, so we all make mistakes, but owning up to
[30:16] Speaker 1: them is the right thing to do. So, you know
[30:18] Speaker 1: Degree cool Rush deodorant right, Well, last year they changed
[30:21] Speaker 1: the formula and it did not go over well with
[30:24] Speaker 1: their fans. So Degrees whole thing is it turns up
[30:27] Speaker 1: the sweat and odor protection when you turn up the effort,
[30:30] Speaker 1: and good thing it does, because cool Rush fans really
[30:32] Speaker 1: turned up the effort to bring the original formula back.
[30:35] Speaker 1: One guy even started an online petition and Degree listened.
[30:38] Speaker 1: They admitted they ft up. They're bringing back the original
[30:40] Speaker 1: cool Rush scent. They're bringing it back and it's exactly
[30:42] Speaker 1: how you remember it, cool, crisp and freshness back in Walmart,
[30:46] Speaker 1: Target and other stores now for under four dollars. There's
[30:49] Speaker 1: a reason that's been the number one men's anti pursperant
[30:51] Speaker 1: for the last decade. It's the same reason why people
[30:53] Speaker 1: were not happy when it changed. So if you've never
[30:56] Speaker 1: tried it, it might be a good time to see
[30:57] Speaker 1: what the fuss is about. Head to your local Walmart,
[31:00] Speaker 1: Target and try the og degree cool Rush for yourself.
[31:08] Speaker 1: You know, let me throw this at you. I had
[31:09] Speaker 1: a really smart guy tell me this, a current college coach,
[31:15] Speaker 1: and he was talking about ole Miss and the limitations.
[31:18] Speaker 1: He said, offensive recruits will follow the coach right, They'll
[31:23] Speaker 1: follow Sark Lane Kaitlin to offensive players. They want to
[31:29] Speaker 1: know who the coach is, what the system is. Great
[31:32] Speaker 1: defensive players, they want to go to Georgia, Texas, LSU.
[31:36] Speaker 1: Not about scheme. I want to get taken care of.
[31:38] Speaker 1: I want to nil check. I got to play in
[31:41] Speaker 1: the trenches. That's the limitation of ole Miss. When I
[31:46] Speaker 1: asked somebody about Old Miss, they said, Lane's always going
[31:49] Speaker 1: to get offensive guys. He goes. Offensive guys follow the coach.
[31:53] Speaker 1: Defensive guys don't. He's never gonna have Georgia's defensive personnel.
[31:57] Speaker 1: He's never gonna have Bamas. He's never gonna have Ohio
[31:59] Speaker 1: States defensive guys. Go to the big schools. You see
[32:02] Speaker 1: all sorts of great offenses in the history of college football.
[32:05] Speaker 1: You can go to Hawaii, you go to BYU, you
[32:08] Speaker 1: can go Indiana and see a lot of the top
[32:11] Speaker 1: ten college defense.
[32:12] Speaker 2: Of all time.
[32:12] Speaker 1: There's a lot of Georgia, Bama, LSU, Michigan. And so
[32:18] Speaker 1: this coach said, Lane knows he's limited. When he faces
[32:23] Speaker 1: the big dogs in the SEC, He'll have to obscore him.
[32:27] Speaker 1: He's not stopping them, and so that's just something that's
[32:30] Speaker 1: something to think about. I thought it was very very wise.
[32:33] Speaker 2: I think it's been taken into consideration. And when you
[32:35] Speaker 2: do your pros and cons, there's not gonna be a
[32:38] Speaker 2: clean list under the cons for any of these jobs. Right,
[32:41] Speaker 2: So that's what you have to ask. But then what
[32:44] Speaker 2: if you're Lane Kiffin, you have to ask, all right,
[32:45] Speaker 2: but what state do I reside in? I reside in Mississippi.
[32:49] Speaker 2: The one thing that you're gonna say about Mississippi is
[32:51] Speaker 2: it pumps out NFL front future NFL front defensive talent
[32:56] Speaker 2: every year. Now, historically they've gone to other schools, but
[32:59] Speaker 2: that's why it's been, case by case, a nightmare to
[33:01] Speaker 2: play Mississippi state role miss in certain given years because
[33:05] Speaker 2: they're just freak shows out of Scuba and Philadelphia and
[33:08] Speaker 2: Columbus and you've never heard of those places Yazoo City, Mississippi,
[33:12] Speaker 2: but they got future first round NFL draft picks coming
[33:14] Speaker 2: out of there. I would think to myself, Man, if
[33:17] Speaker 2: I can keep enough of those guys home, I'm gonna
[33:19] Speaker 2: get the offensive guys. But like you're right, that is
[33:22] Speaker 2: the case. If I'm representing him and selfishly I want
[33:25] Speaker 2: him at LSU or I want him at Florida. I
[33:29] Speaker 2: want him at Florida because I'm saying, dude, they've got
[33:31] Speaker 2: the track record of offense, like you want Spurrier even
[33:35] Speaker 2: when Urban was there. The difference is you can get
[33:38] Speaker 2: the defensive talent down there as well. That's what I'd
[33:40] Speaker 2: sell him on. Yes, Sark told me this when he
[33:43] Speaker 2: was at Washington.
[33:44] Speaker 1: He said, I can get first round receivers and tight
[33:47] Speaker 1: ends and quarterbacks at Washington, it's defensive tackles. Yeah, you
[33:51] Speaker 1: can't get him in the Northwest. We just don't. We
[33:54] Speaker 1: may have one every other year who's an elite defensive tackle,
[33:59] Speaker 1: and so know that's why, you know, I just think
[34:02] Speaker 1: it's a reality of even in southern California, as great
[34:05] Speaker 1: as that state is right now, USC, if you look
[34:08] Speaker 1: at their interior d line recruiting, there's Texas, there's no
[34:12] Speaker 1: there's an Oklahoma kid, there's a Texas kid, there's a
[34:15] Speaker 1: Minnesota kid, and not a lot of LA kids on
[34:18] Speaker 1: that defensive front. Now, Lemon the receiver lanes from Arizona.
[34:23] Speaker 1: You know, Mayava. They got in Vegas a running back
[34:27] Speaker 1: walk on from Calabasas. USC's offensive talent. You know, it's
[34:30] Speaker 1: a lot of LA kids and West Coast kids. But no,
[34:34] Speaker 1: I think Lane's a great example of the willingness to
[34:41] Speaker 1: evolve as a human being. I think Lane today is
[34:44] Speaker 1: just a much better human being. Not that I know
[34:46] Speaker 1: him that well, but there were a lot of people
[34:49] Speaker 1: out on Lane and he went small school one, and
[34:53] Speaker 1: I think Nick Saban deserves a lot of credit. You know,
[34:56] Speaker 1: Saban took a beat up Lane and a beat up Sark.
[34:58] Speaker 1: I mean, I tell you a lot about Nick Saban.
[35:00] Speaker 1: Those guys were not They had lost a lot of
[35:05] Speaker 1: glare in college sports.
[35:07] Speaker 2: I think. I mean that tw twenty fifteen teen he
[35:10] Speaker 2: had alone just doing a deep dive on that staff alone.
[35:13] Speaker 2: Pretty unbelievable at Alabama that Saban had. But I mean,
[35:17] Speaker 2: I remember when Lane was at Alabama. I remember when
[35:22] Speaker 2: Sark had gotten to Alabama and you're hearing the stories
[35:25] Speaker 2: behind the scenes and you're thinking to yourself, I mean, like,
[35:28] Speaker 2: one of the greatest magician tricks that I thought about
[35:32] Speaker 2: Nick Saban when I first came to sort of see
[35:35] Speaker 2: behind the curtain is everyone watched them and they're this
[35:38] Speaker 2: machine and they're winning and so you think, oh, they're
[35:40] Speaker 2: free of all the crap that everyone else has to
[35:42] Speaker 2: deal with, and then you find out there's tons of
[35:45] Speaker 2: infighting there. All of these coaches are alphas, all of
[35:48] Speaker 2: these coaches are type a's, and he's just it's like
[35:51] Speaker 2: herding cats, and he somehow did it. But to do
[35:54] Speaker 2: what he did for Lane Slash with Lane, to do
[35:56] Speaker 2: the same thing for Slash with Sark, that's pretty unbelievable.
[36:00] Speaker 2: But the other part of that is, at some point,
[36:02] Speaker 2: it don't matter how much someone else is trying to
[36:04] Speaker 2: help you if you don't want to help yourself. So yeah,
[36:07] Speaker 2: a ton of credit to Nick Saban. Absolutely, it's not
[36:10] Speaker 2: like Kiffin's having to rediscover himself at Public's like he is.
[36:13] Speaker 2: He is coaching major college football. But at some point
[36:16] Speaker 2: you got to look in the mirror and realize, I'm
[36:18] Speaker 2: a full grown adult, like it's up to me. And
[36:22] Speaker 2: thankfully he did that.
[36:24] Speaker 1: Finally, what if Ohio State wins the Natty? I think
[36:28] Speaker 1: their defense is insane. I think it's I mean that
[36:30] Speaker 1: it's really really good. Well, Hi, you're going to have
[36:34] Speaker 1: a Michigan, Ohio State, Ohio State. What's going to be
[36:39] Speaker 1: the feeling in the South. If Ohio State wins third
[36:41] Speaker 1: straight Big Ten championship, what are we going to say
[36:43] Speaker 1: in college football?
[36:45] Speaker 2: Existential crisis? And a lot of people will paint it
[36:49] Speaker 2: like a lot of people are going to say the
[36:52] Speaker 2: Big Ten and the SEC. I'll look at it as
[36:54] Speaker 2: Michigan and Ohio State. That's what I'll look at it as.
[36:58] Speaker 2: The same way as I always thought it was really
[36:59] Speaker 2: dumb when South Carolina fans beat their chest and chanted SEC.
[37:04] Speaker 2: When Bama and LSU or win a national championships, it's
[37:08] Speaker 2: Bama and LSU and then mix Georgia in. Those are
[37:11] Speaker 2: the teams winning the national titles. Now, look, I'm not
[37:15] Speaker 2: gonna speak ill of the overall competitive depth of the SEC.
[37:18] Speaker 2: No one needs to teach me about that. But if
[37:20] Speaker 2: I'm looking at the state of affairs in the SEC, like,
[37:24] Speaker 2: what does it mean if the Big Ten has the
[37:27] Speaker 2: best team in the country this year, maybe even one two,
[37:29] Speaker 2: and then for all we know the SEC has three, four, six, nine,
[37:33] Speaker 2: and ten, I think it speaks that there's incredible competitive
[37:37] Speaker 2: balance but also competitive top to bottom in the SEC.
[37:40] Speaker 2: There are taller mountain peaks in the Big Ten. That's
[37:44] Speaker 2: not a crazy concept to me, people will make a
[37:47] Speaker 2: much bigger deal about it than should be made about it.
[37:50] Speaker 2: What I'll ask is, what kind of praise does Ryan
[37:54] Speaker 2: Day deserve. We're right in the middle of it, so
[37:56] Speaker 2: this all could be moot. But that guy lost so much,
[38:00] Speaker 2: and you have Penn State ungodly money to take your
[38:03] Speaker 2: defensive coordinator, and what you improved defensively just happened Chip Kelly.
[38:09] Speaker 2: You lose Chip Kelly, and anyone would have taken that job,
[38:12] Speaker 2: by the way, and you're in a position where you
[38:14] Speaker 2: can promote from within. Uh. It just I cannot speak
[38:18] Speaker 2: highly enough of the job they've done there. And they're
[38:20] Speaker 2: playing like their lives are on the line every week,
[38:24] Speaker 2: the same way sabans Bama teams used to.
[38:26] Speaker 1: Look. I'll say, Julius say, nobody's talking about him because
[38:29] Speaker 1: he's not coming out right, he's young, right, And Mendoza
[38:33] Speaker 1: and Dante More and his conference are getting deserved love.
[38:37] Speaker 1: And Jaden Mayava, Like the quarterback play in the Big
[38:40] Speaker 1: Ten since you brought those Pac twelve schools in has
[38:43] Speaker 1: gone way up very quick. I mean even Mendoz is
[38:45] Speaker 1: from cal So It's like the one thing the Pac
[38:48] Speaker 1: twelve brought to the Big ten was quarterback play, like
[38:51] Speaker 1: it's just better. Julian Sand is something else, right, I
[38:57] Speaker 1: mean he is really really good. And even if you
[39:01] Speaker 1: go back to that Texas game in the opener, Arch
[39:04] Speaker 1: got all the love. It was like Julian just like
[39:08] Speaker 1: I mean you, even though he was home, It's like
[39:10] Speaker 1: he's the nervous one. Arch Mannings, as I told you,
[39:12] Speaker 1: Thanksgiving with the Mannings is an event, like Julian Sand
[39:16] Speaker 1: was like Arch manning Texas National TV where I was like,
[39:20] Speaker 1: holy shit, that kid is good. He's really really good player.
[39:24] Speaker 1: I think he was a five star kid too, so
[39:26] Speaker 1: it's not shocking.
[39:28] Speaker 2: I think also if you remember back to the spring,
[39:32] Speaker 2: it was presented in Columbus as this is a legitimate
[39:35] Speaker 2: quarterback battle. Sometimes they be on quarterback battle, Okay, so
[39:39] Speaker 2: a lot of times it's not the case. I think
[39:41] Speaker 2: that was an authentic quarterback battle. It wasn't. It wasn't
[39:45] Speaker 2: that he was a sure fire three years from now
[39:48] Speaker 2: first round NFL draft pick kit in spring. But where
[39:51] Speaker 2: he is is he's sitting there in the most fertile
[39:54] Speaker 2: developmental soil in college football, and so he's got god
[39:58] Speaker 2: given ability that's you can match. But he's developed week
[40:02] Speaker 2: over week, Like you can look at the progression. It's
[40:04] Speaker 2: almost linear, which is a hallmark of the best coaches
[40:07] Speaker 2: and the best programs. That's why the same ones continue
[40:10] Speaker 2: to win over and over again. But like week one
[40:13] Speaker 2: and then week two, in the week six and then
[40:15] Speaker 2: week nine, and you're looking at him and you're saying, wow,
[40:19] Speaker 2: And that's the first year of him. They get one more,
[40:21] Speaker 2: remember the other one or two. But yeah, he's been
[40:24] Speaker 2: pretty incredible to watch.
[40:26] Speaker 1: Yeah. And by the way, those two receivers, Oh my god,
[40:29] Speaker 1: I joke there day. Just if you're an NFL GM,
[40:33] Speaker 1: just draft a wide receiver from Ohio State every year.
[40:36] Speaker 1: Your depth chart will be fine. Just take only Buck
[40:38] Speaker 1: Eyes because I mean, Harrison's now playing better and Buka
[40:43] Speaker 1: is amazing. Jas N's incredible. This Carneal Tait, I mean,
[40:48] Speaker 1: he's the overshadowed one. He's the two man body, unbelievable hands,
[40:54] Speaker 1: grip on the football, forceful. Yeah, Ohio State's goods. I mean,
[40:59] Speaker 1: I don't know if Indiana could compete. I think Ohio
[41:03] Speaker 1: State's really good. Josh Pate, the Josh Pate Show, we
[41:08] Speaker 1: do this every couple of weeks. I can't wait, so
[41:11] Speaker 1: we both like Bama. I like USC narrowly. I think
[41:15] Speaker 1: you like USC. I'll take Georgia. We agree there. Hey, Josh,
[41:19] Speaker 1: tell me about quick Trip. Brother.
[41:21] Speaker 2: It's my lifeline right now. Fuel and me to every
[41:23] Speaker 2: single stop that we go on on this tour. In
[41:25] Speaker 2: the fall, they will fall. Don't lie tour, Quick Trip.
[41:28] Speaker 2: So the best thing about partnerships is when it organically forms.
[41:32] Speaker 2: You know, when someone who runs a major corporation hits
[41:35] Speaker 2: you up and says, hey, man, I've been washing you
[41:37] Speaker 2: so for a long time. We'd love to be a partner.
[41:39] Speaker 2: That's beautiful. That's what Quick Trip was for me. So,
[41:42] Speaker 2: I mean you see him all over the place in
[41:44] Speaker 2: the South, you see him a little bit more in
[41:45] Speaker 2: the Midwest, spreading the footprint a little bit. But I mean,
[41:48] Speaker 2: you can get gas in any gas station, Colin. It's
[41:50] Speaker 2: the cold brewing tap. For me, it's walking in there
[41:53] Speaker 2: and having thirty seven different kinds of col brew and
[41:55] Speaker 2: you fill it up and you're on your way. It's
[41:57] Speaker 2: been a beautiful partnership.
[41:59] Speaker 1: Good see anybody, Good see youmen. The volume
