[1:38] Speaker 1: the Panthers, or landing Caleb Williams and what it could be,
[1:43] Speaker 1: and then the games happen. It's like, how is this
[1:45] Speaker 1: happening to us? How is this franchise in such disarray?
[1:50] Speaker 1: And then tonight, listen, you got some shitty calls. Early
[1:53] Speaker 1: in the game. There was a touchdown that was called
[1:56] Speaker 1: not a touchdown because of a penalty that should have
[1:59] Speaker 1: been a touchdo down on a great Caleb throw to
[2:01] Speaker 1: Roam in the corner front corner of the end zone.
[2:05] Speaker 1: And then the referee on TV comes like, yeah, that
[2:07] Speaker 1: was that was the wrong call. That play should stand,
[2:10] Speaker 1: and it just felt like God, I honestly started to
[2:14] Speaker 1: feel bad for Bears fans. It's not like Caleb was incredible.
[2:17] Speaker 1: He made some nice plays. It's not like the Bears
[2:20] Speaker 1: were clearly the better team in this game. Definitely were
[2:24] Speaker 1: early on. Games started flipping in the second half, and
[2:28] Speaker 1: then the moment that Moody gets his fuel field goal blocked,
[2:31] Speaker 1: you like, it's just it's just not meant to be.
[2:34] Speaker 1: And this is gonna be a good lesson for Ben Johnson,
[2:36] Speaker 1: who I thought had stretches where he was calling a
[2:39] Speaker 1: really good game. I mean, there was one stretch a
[2:40] Speaker 1: night where it's like, I think it was third and
[2:46] Speaker 1: two or whatever, third and one right before the end
[2:50] Speaker 1: of the third quarter. There is more time on the
[2:53] Speaker 1: clock or the play clock than the clock, so they
[2:57] Speaker 1: could have just ran it down to double zeros and
[2:59] Speaker 1: gone on to the fourth quarter. I've never asked to
[3:02] Speaker 1: coach about this, but I would say it's a universal
[3:05] Speaker 1: practice in football where you just run it down to
[3:07] Speaker 1: double zeros, you essentially get a free time out. You
[3:10] Speaker 1: go to the sideline, especially on a third and short,
[3:13] Speaker 1: you meet as a team, you kind of talk some
[3:16] Speaker 1: stuff out. They snapped the ball before Caleb like drops
[3:20] Speaker 1: the snap. It's a bad snap. I didn't see the replay.
[3:22] Speaker 1: He just gets in golf. And then Moody missed the
[3:25] Speaker 1: field goal. That's when I thought, like, this franchise legitimately
[3:29] Speaker 1: might be snake bitten. I mean, you're playing the team
[3:31] Speaker 1: that had this legendary hail Mary. I'm like, it's just
[3:34] Speaker 1: not meant to be. And then the Jaden Daniels handoff
[3:37] Speaker 1: happened and they got the ball. I'll be honest, I
[3:41] Speaker 1: almost fell out of my chair. That was, you know,
[3:44] Speaker 1: I'm writing down because I thought the game was over.
[3:46] Speaker 1: I thought they were gonna be able to essentially run
[3:48] Speaker 1: the clock out and the Bears were just gonna lose this.
[3:51] Speaker 1: I don't want to say devastating game, but it was
[3:53] Speaker 1: like a game that they got to be feeling we
[3:55] Speaker 1: should have won. We you know, I think they would
[3:58] Speaker 1: say we outplayed him in the first half, we were
[4:01] Speaker 1: playing well. In the second half, we were having drives,
[4:04] Speaker 1: and we're gonna lose this game on the road, Like
[4:07] Speaker 1: we played a good game that our coaching staff did well.
[4:11] Speaker 1: Like that that was IoT. Ben Johnson had stretches where
[4:14] Speaker 1: he was excellent tonight. The EBB and flow of his
[4:17] Speaker 1: play calling, getting to the ball to his guys on
[4:21] Speaker 1: the perimeter. Clearly they saw a deficiency on the Washington
[4:26] Speaker 1: Commander's perimeter defense, whether it was outside runs, quick screens,
[4:31] Speaker 1: and just being able to take advantage of them on
[4:33] Speaker 1: the edges. You know, DeAndre Swift I don't know if
[4:36] Speaker 1: he was the best player on the field, but he
[4:38] Speaker 1: was near the top. You could make an argument he was.
[4:41] Speaker 1: He was fantastic. He looked like he was playing at
[4:44] Speaker 1: a different speed and the moment they dropped that ball
[4:48] Speaker 1: and then they were able to basically run the clock
[4:50] Speaker 1: down to Jake Moody. Which listen, if the game would
[4:55] Speaker 1: have gone the other way and Jayden wouldn't have fumbled it,
[4:58] Speaker 1: one of my takes was gonna be, like, I understand,
[5:01] Speaker 1: I've been in these front offices where you have these
[5:04] Speaker 1: lists of kickers. When your kicker gets injured in the
[5:07] Speaker 1: middle of the season, there are slim pickings and picking
[5:11] Speaker 1: you know, kickers that are on the street or on
[5:13] Speaker 1: teams practice squads. It's not like you know, selecting players, Well,
[5:18] Speaker 1: you know that's so and so he's had this many
[5:20] Speaker 1: snaps over the last couple of years, or we had
[5:22] Speaker 1: a third round grade on this guy. No one knows
[5:24] Speaker 1: anything about kickers, not your GM, not your head coach,
[5:27] Speaker 1: who is typically an offensive or defensive guy, not like
[5:30] Speaker 1: a kicker specialist. It's a complete craft. Shoot, now, this kid.
[5:34] Speaker 1: What made this story so I would say disappointing is
[5:38] Speaker 1: the forty nine ers use a third round pick on
[5:40] Speaker 1: the guy, but in fairness to them, Jim Harbaughs said,
[5:43] Speaker 1: death taxes and Moody. The guy played at one of
[5:46] Speaker 1: the best programs in the country and dominated, and then
[5:49] Speaker 1: he was just a disaster. And once he had that
[5:51] Speaker 1: field goal blocked after having a really good game. I
[5:54] Speaker 1: mean early on he is just drilling long field goals,
[5:58] Speaker 1: little buttercut butter draw right down the pipe, and then
[6:02] Speaker 1: he hits that ball that's blocked at the beginning of
[6:04] Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. Looked like he was three feet off
[6:06] Speaker 1: the ground. So it's like, was it really a great
[6:08] Speaker 1: block or just a terrible kick? Like I didn't feel good, honestly,
[6:12] Speaker 1: I felt like kind of nervous for him, because you
[6:14] Speaker 1: don't want to see a guy continue to get embarrassed.
[6:16] Speaker 1: And it's a tough spot, like he doesn't know these guys.
[6:19] Speaker 1: He just got joined the practice squad because there's an injury.
[6:22] Speaker 1: And then he drills the kick and he gave to
[6:25] Speaker 1: Lisa Salters. The postgame interview, every player takes off their
[6:29] Speaker 1: helmet and does an interview just either with a you know,
[6:32] Speaker 1: a bear's hat or just their hair flowing out. He
[6:34] Speaker 1: had his Hell, he's a kicker, had his helmet on,
[6:37] Speaker 1: chit strapped and did the interview in his helmet. He
[6:41] Speaker 1: looked like a guy who was scared shitless even doing
[6:44] Speaker 1: the interview. And listen, I say this all the time
[6:47] Speaker 1: about young people confidence. When you got it, you feel
[6:50] Speaker 1: like you're never gonna lose it, and when you lose it,
[6:53] Speaker 1: you feel like it's never gonna come back. Hell, you
[6:55] Speaker 1: got people listening to this that are probably thirty, forty
[6:57] Speaker 1: fifty years old. We all can be I don't even
[7:00] Speaker 1: want to say insecure, but when you lose your confidence,
[7:03] Speaker 1: you become insecure about your abilities. And clearly like he
[7:07] Speaker 1: is still trying to find that, there is no disputing
[7:10] Speaker 1: his talent, and Ryan Pole's like, what are you gonna do?
[7:13] Speaker 1: Probably the other five or six options aren't great either,
[7:16] Speaker 1: So you go with the guy that you probably had
[7:17] Speaker 1: a draftable grade on who's available, and he comes through,
[7:20] Speaker 1: and he makes a bunch of field goals, including the
[7:22] Speaker 1: game winner, and you get thrown a lifeline as a
[7:26] Speaker 1: franchise after like they felt it's weird they had buttoned
[7:30] Speaker 1: up drives. They still commit a lot of penalties, some
[7:33] Speaker 1: of them not all their fault that they do some
[7:36] Speaker 1: dumb things. Caleb had a throw in that game that
[7:38] Speaker 1: you could tell Troy Aikman wanted to fall out of
[7:41] Speaker 1: the booth like it was a beautiful throw in the air.
[7:43] Speaker 1: I mean when Caleb even he had one that looked like,
[7:46] Speaker 1: as Troy said, a shortstop rolling to his left. He
[7:49] Speaker 1: threw like seven hundred miles an hour. I don't care
[7:52] Speaker 1: if that was Chris Carter, Marvin Harrison, and Randy Moss
[7:55] Speaker 1: morphed into one guy. They could never catch that ball.
[7:58] Speaker 1: His physical ability when he lets that thing go, it's
[8:02] Speaker 1: like John Elway in his prime. I mean, he quirks
[8:05] Speaker 1: this ball to Roma Doonsday got pretty lucky. Number twenty
[8:08] Speaker 1: on Washington didn't high point the ball and said he
[8:10] Speaker 1: willly mazed it and ran right into row. Bad decisions,
[8:14] Speaker 1: he still has some. He had a ball in the
[8:15] Speaker 1: red zone that could have been picked. Can be a
[8:17] Speaker 1: little hit or miss, but he also made some smart plays.
[8:19] Speaker 1: He made a winning play at the end of the
[8:21] Speaker 1: game when he scrambled around and trying to get them
[8:24] Speaker 1: to burn the timeouts. You see players do this all
[8:27] Speaker 1: the time. Brain fart not pay attention to the situation.
[8:31] Speaker 1: Run out of bounds, he hits the fucking ground with
[8:33] Speaker 1: a couple of yards to spare before the white and
[8:36] Speaker 1: it costs, obviously the bears of time out, which you
[8:40] Speaker 1: ended up putting them in position to kick the field
[8:42] Speaker 1: goal with no time left. So listen, there's still a
[8:46] Speaker 1: lot to be desired. This was a pretty ugly game
[8:49] Speaker 1: in terms of it's not like, I mean, Caleb's numbers
[8:51] Speaker 1: don't look bad. He had two hundred and fifty yards,
[8:54] Speaker 1: But how long was the one swift play at the end.
[8:58] Speaker 1: I think it was like forty yard. I mean, what
[9:00] Speaker 1: kind of tackling was that hit DeAndre fifty five yards?
[9:05] Speaker 1: So essentially, I mean that probably should have been like
[9:07] Speaker 1: a ten yard play went for fifty five. So overall,
[9:11] Speaker 1: he wasn't terrible, did not turn the ball over, sacked
[9:14] Speaker 1: a couple times, showing progress, and I think one bright
[9:18] Speaker 1: spot is showing toughness can be. I think both these
[9:21] Speaker 1: guys fall into this category a little reckless. Like there
[9:25] Speaker 1: was one play on the sideline where Caleb scrambling away
[9:29] Speaker 1: from like four defenders and these aren't dbs. These are
[9:33] Speaker 1: defensive linemen, edge rushers, defensive tackles, and the middle linebacker
[9:38] Speaker 1: and he cuts it back inside and I get, you know,
[9:41] Speaker 1: trying to conserve the clock and worried about it's like
[9:44] Speaker 1: you cannot and he gets leveled. Jayden does this all
[9:48] Speaker 1: the time he's running around. It's like, guys, you are
[9:53] Speaker 1: premium assets in the business you work in. You're the
[9:56] Speaker 1: number one overall pick and number two overall pick, and
[9:59] Speaker 1: you have I mean, Jaden's an exceptional runner. Caleb is
[10:04] Speaker 1: an exceptional athlete relative to the rest of the league.
[10:06] Speaker 1: And he's not quite Jaden level athlete, but he's a
[10:08] Speaker 1: fantastic athlete. And movement wise, they're pretty special going around.
[10:14] Speaker 1: They gotta be careful about their body, both of them do,
[10:17] Speaker 1: or they're just not gonna last. They're gonna get rolled
[10:20] Speaker 1: up on, They're gonna get their knee twisted. I mean,
[10:23] Speaker 1: it's already happened to Jaden Daniels getting injured, and you
[10:26] Speaker 1: saw it a couple times a night. You're like holding
[10:27] Speaker 1: your breath. It's like you're just gonna take some random
[10:30] Speaker 1: shots to begin with. You know, Jaden had the one
[10:33] Speaker 1: where they called the roughing the pastor, which I don't
[10:36] Speaker 1: know on Brisker. I don't think he got shoved into it.
[10:39] Speaker 1: He just tried to make a tackle. He's probably a
[10:41] Speaker 1: little lower than he wanted to me. It's a little
[10:43] Speaker 1: bang bang, it's kind of It's true by the letter
[10:46] Speaker 1: of the law, but I don't think there was any
[10:48] Speaker 1: malicious intent. But the bottom line is you're just gonna
[10:51] Speaker 1: have some of those where guys are around your feet
[10:53] Speaker 1: taking some shots. Maybe your offensive lineman, you know, get
[10:56] Speaker 1: spun around like a dradal and you get lit up
[10:58] Speaker 1: like a Christmas tree. So anytime that you get out
[11:01] Speaker 1: there and you're controlling your own destiny scrambling around, and
[11:04] Speaker 1: Caleb does it all the time. Caleb is he wants
[11:08] Speaker 1: to play like Russell Wilson in his front right. And
[11:10] Speaker 1: I do think one thing with Caleb is it does
[11:14] Speaker 1: feel like at times in the pocket he struggles to see.
[11:18] Speaker 1: You know, there was a play when they scored the
[11:20] Speaker 1: touchdown to make it twenty two twenty four and they
[11:23] Speaker 1: go for two and twenty five in the flat would
[11:27] Speaker 1: have been I mean, if it's Tom Brady, Peyton Manning,
[11:31] Speaker 1: just Josh Allen, guys that are six foot five and
[11:34] Speaker 1: they can see it's because he's already kind of looking
[11:37] Speaker 1: over that way. But I don't think you can see
[11:38] Speaker 1: because tackles right in front of him, and like that's
[11:42] Speaker 1: kind of a problem. And that's why I think he
[11:44] Speaker 1: scrambles sometimes when you're like, did he have to scramble
[11:46] Speaker 1: because one of the knock on him is kind of
[11:48] Speaker 1: playing that hero ball. I think it's just a basic
[11:50] Speaker 1: math equation, right when you're under six' one or, under
[11:55] Speaker 1: and especially some of these guys you see it With
[11:56] Speaker 1: kyler and And Bryce. Young you, know it's what Makes
[12:02] Speaker 1: baker what he's doing so. Special he feels very very
[12:06] Speaker 1: confident from throwing within the. Pocket in terms of his
[12:08] Speaker 1: viewing lanes where you watch tonight With CALEB i it's
[12:11] Speaker 1: like SOMETIMES i don't know if he quite sees, something
[12:14] Speaker 1: and sometimes he. Does and you, know there was a
[12:16] Speaker 1: play late in the game where he hits The kyist
[12:18] Speaker 1: in stride when they're backed up on their own end.
[12:20] Speaker 1: ZONE i don't know if he, scores but that's definitely
[12:23] Speaker 1: at minimum a thirty yard explosive. Play who, knows maybe
[12:28] Speaker 1: he gets an angle and goes fifty sixty yards and
[12:30] Speaker 1: gets hawked down at you, know the twenty yard, line
[12:34] Speaker 1: so puts him in the red zone like it would
[12:36] Speaker 1: have been a massive plan and he's dropped it. Right
