[0:01] Speaker 1: The volume. All Right, football season is officially back. It
[0:11] Speaker 1: was a classic big sandwich day. I've already down won
[0:14] Speaker 1: a couple more to go. So Ohio State at home
[0:18] Speaker 1: holds off Texas already dominates the entire game. And the
[0:21] Speaker 1: first thing that really jumped out to me is that
[0:25] Speaker 1: last year Ohio State used Chip Kelly. So they bring
[0:29] Speaker 1: in an NFL guy who'd had success at college but
[0:32] Speaker 1: really knew the NFL game a different, more sophisticated level
[0:36] Speaker 1: of football. Ryan Day gives him the offense, and by
[0:40] Speaker 1: the time they got to that playoff, you're just watching
[0:44] Speaker 1: a pretty slick offense with obviously Ohio State talent. So
[0:49] Speaker 1: now they bring in Matt Patricia. Well, defensive coordinators in
[0:52] Speaker 1: the NFL faced the world's best quarterbacks, and whereas in
[0:57] Speaker 1: college football, a defensive coordinator's job has stopped the run
[1:02] Speaker 1: because you don't face a lot of world class quarterbacks.
[1:05] Speaker 1: Even the great college quarterbacks come into the NFL and
[1:08] Speaker 1: have to clean up and speed up their game. You're
[1:10] Speaker 1: seeing that, you know, with Caleb Williams in Chicago, But
[1:14] Speaker 1: in the NFL, you've got to figure out how to
[1:17] Speaker 1: stop to pass. You're facing the homes and you know,
[1:20] Speaker 1: the best quarterbacks in the world and Lamar and Josh
[1:23] Speaker 1: Allen and Joe Burrow. You have to be able to
[1:25] Speaker 1: stop the pass. So Matt Patricia is throwing stuff at
[1:29] Speaker 1: Arch Manning, and you know, stuff arch Manning I'm sure
[1:32] Speaker 1: he didn't see in practice. I mean, Matt Patricia may
[1:35] Speaker 1: have not worked as a Detroit Lions head coach or
[1:38] Speaker 1: as an offensive coordinator for that year in New England.
[1:40] Speaker 1: He's a brilliant defensive coordinator. Literally a rocket scientist. So
[1:45] Speaker 1: never forget what Bill Belichick did to Sam Darnold the
[1:48] Speaker 1: first five or six times he faced him. It looked
[1:50] Speaker 1: like Donald did not know how to play football. So
[1:53] Speaker 1: Arch Manning, you know, especially in the first three quarters,
[1:57] Speaker 1: three and a half quarters, he was seeing things. He
[2:00] Speaker 1: didn't look comfortable. I mean, he just he he didn't
[2:05] Speaker 1: set and throw. He was completely off. It looked like
[2:09] Speaker 1: he just hadn't practiced. Well, this is what a Matt
[2:11] Speaker 1: Patricia can do. This is what a Belichick did to
[2:15] Speaker 1: I mean, what was Belichick's record against first and second
[2:17] Speaker 1: year quarterbacks in the NFL. I mean, I don't even
[2:19] Speaker 1: know what it is. He won like ninety percent. Yet
[2:22] Speaker 1: Josh Allen you're three, four, five, six, Josh Allen, Mahalmes, Burrow,
[2:28] Speaker 1: Matt Stafford. You know they've seen all the tricks. You're
[2:31] Speaker 1: not going to throw anything at them an older veteran
[2:33] Speaker 1: NFL quarterback or a superstar quarterback by the time they've got,
[2:37] Speaker 1: you know, a couple years under their belt. You know,
[2:39] Speaker 1: Belichick is is it can't can't dent their super powers.
[2:45] Speaker 1: But Matt Patricia against arch Manning or a Matt Patricia
[2:49] Speaker 1: or Bill Belichick against rookie quarterbacks in the NFL, they
[2:52] Speaker 1: can look horrible. And so let's be honest. Arch Manning
[2:57] Speaker 1: first game in Columbus, you know half of that Ohio
[3:01] Speaker 1: State defense, four or five of those guys are in
[3:03] Speaker 1: the NFL next year. The other five or six are
[3:05] Speaker 1: in the NFL of the following year. So that's a
[3:08] Speaker 1: tough opening act. You can go back to Joe Burrow's
[3:11] Speaker 1: first year at LSU. He completed fifty seven percent of
[3:15] Speaker 1: his throws. You know, Matt Stafford sophomore year at Georgia,
[3:19] Speaker 1: with all those Georgia athletes, is completeing fifty five percent
[3:22] Speaker 1: of his throws. So arch Manning looked lost. It's Ohio State,
[3:26] Speaker 1: It's Columbus. I didn't think it would look like that,
[3:30] Speaker 1: and it wasn't until the end of the game where
[3:32] Speaker 1: he made a couple of really nice throws down the field.
[3:34] Speaker 1: That whole shot up the left side against cover two
[3:37] Speaker 1: was great, But then he followed it up with back
[3:39] Speaker 1: to back really bad throws off to the right, easy
[3:42] Speaker 1: layup throws, and he missed him so his feet weren't right,
[3:46] Speaker 1: he wasn't right, disoriented, and Ohio State, listen, there there
[3:54] Speaker 1: are greater failures in life than losing to the Buckeye
[3:58] Speaker 1: in Columbus in your first time start in college football.
[4:01] Speaker 1: So I think arch Manning will probably win double digit
[4:05] Speaker 1: games this year. With a young offensive line, four new
[4:10] Speaker 1: starters in front of him, I think eventually he's going
[4:12] Speaker 1: to be fine. But he looked lost today. He made
[4:15] Speaker 1: you know, I don't think he had a really really
[4:17] Speaker 1: good throw until I thought it was like Joel Klatt
[4:21] Speaker 1: said it, and he was right. It was his best
[4:24] Speaker 1: pitching catch of the day. Was like I think late
[4:26] Speaker 1: third quarter and Ohio State, by the way, I only
[4:28] Speaker 1: had a couple of hundred yards on offense, but I
[4:30] Speaker 1: think what Ohio State saw early in this game, I
[4:33] Speaker 1: mean they saw it. By the second or third series,
[4:35] Speaker 1: they saw arch was uncomfortable. Ryan Day looked at arch
[4:40] Speaker 1: Manning and said, we're just not going to beat ourselves.
[4:44] Speaker 1: We'll throw the ball down the field a couple of times,
[4:46] Speaker 1: take some big swings. But Ohio State, I think over
[4:50] Speaker 1: the course of the game, very early, Ohio State decided
[4:54] Speaker 1: let's not take any big risks here. Our quarterback Julian
[4:59] Speaker 1: slam And is comfortable. He's got good protection, he's got
[5:03] Speaker 1: a more experienced offensive line, he's got great receivers. Do
[5:07] Speaker 1: the Brian hartlines recruiting. But I think Ohio State may
[5:10] Speaker 1: have adjusted by their second or third series and said
[5:14] Speaker 1: let's just not turn it over lay some field position football.
[5:19] Speaker 1: Arch Manning is really really uncomfortable. I mean we're not
[5:22] Speaker 1: even at the game, we're watching it on TV, and
[5:25] Speaker 1: you could tell his discomfort. So imagine Ryan Day sitting
[5:28] Speaker 1: thirty feet from arch Manning, watching his feet, watching his tempo,
[5:32] Speaker 1: and just saying, guys, let's go conservative here. So I
[5:38] Speaker 1: thought text, I thought this was actually gonna be kind
[5:41] Speaker 1: of a wild second half. I mean, listen, you don't
[5:43] Speaker 1: get joint practices in college. You don't get preseason games
[5:46] Speaker 1: in college football. So I figured the first half would
[5:49] Speaker 1: be low scoring, feeling out like a prize fight. First
[5:52] Speaker 1: couple of rounds, you're feeling it out. But I figured
[5:55] Speaker 1: there would be some scoring in the second half. And
[5:58] Speaker 1: I think Ohio State looked at the real game reality
[6:01] Speaker 1: and just said, let's play field position. Take a couple
[6:04] Speaker 1: of big shots. Arch arch is overwhelmed by what he's
[6:08] Speaker 1: seeing on the field. So I thought that touchdown arch
[6:11] Speaker 1: manning through in the end zone. I would have had
[6:12] Speaker 1: a hard time overturning that. I probably would have said,
[6:16] Speaker 1: all right, we're going to keep the play called as
[6:18] Speaker 1: it is to go either way. Call. I just needed
[6:22] Speaker 1: more definitive proof. So but Ohio State dominated this football game.
[6:26] Speaker 1: Forget the total yards, forget the score. Ohio State is
[6:30] Speaker 1: dominated the football game. And so onward for the buck. Guys.
[6:35] Speaker 1: Julian Sland's you know, all I'd seen is you know,
[6:39] Speaker 1: big game action was his best high school football games.
[6:43] Speaker 1: He's a good player. He made some really nice throws.
[6:45] Speaker 1: Now again, it's Ohio State receivers and Ohio State offensive linemen.
[6:50] Speaker 1: But I thought Julian Slan accounted for himself very well
[6:52] Speaker 1: in a big game. Didn't look nervous, look poised, and
[6:58] Speaker 1: can sling it. So I think Ohio it's going to be.
[7:01] Speaker 1: And we all thought Ohio State was a top four
[7:03] Speaker 1: or five team. Hey, I'm gonna watch Clemson tonight. Clemson
[7:06] Speaker 1: may very well be the best team. I do like
[7:08] Speaker 1: Clemson over LSU comfortably. I think they'll they'll win by
[7:12] Speaker 1: touchdown or more. I like Bama a couple of touchdowns
[7:15] Speaker 1: or more over Florida State. And I do like TCU
[7:20] Speaker 1: to beat Belichick. I'm not sure if I like the hook.
[7:22] Speaker 1: It's three and a half, but they return a seventeen
[7:25] Speaker 1: or eighteen starters Hoover, their quarterbacks is going to be
[7:27] Speaker 1: starting for the third year. Belichick's got forty new transfers.
[7:31] Speaker 1: That's absurd. I don't know how you look good in
[7:32] Speaker 1: game one, even though they're at home. So congrats to
[7:35] Speaker 1: the buck guys. Texas looked disoriented. You know, Sark can coach,
[7:39] Speaker 1: he can recruit, He brings juice to your program, big energy,
[7:43] Speaker 1: and so I've always liked Sark. I like Sark at
[7:45] Speaker 1: Washington his first couple of years at USC. You know,
[7:48] Speaker 1: he worked under Saban. He's a very very good coach.
[7:53] Speaker 1: He has in big games. Sometimes overthinks the room a
[7:56] Speaker 1: lot of different formations and motions and looks. I thought
[7:59] Speaker 1: they should have run Arch panning. I thought it was
[8:01] Speaker 1: pretty obvious by the second series that Arch was a
[8:05] Speaker 1: little lost, a little confused. He just didn't look comfortable
[8:09] Speaker 1: and confident throwing the ball downfield. And you know, again
[8:12] Speaker 1: you're talking Matt Patricia's coverages and Ohio State athletes. I mean, listen,
[8:17] Speaker 1: Texas was zero and two in the red zone. You
[8:21] Speaker 1: know you get a touchdown on that push push. Maybe
[8:24] Speaker 1: Arch plays with a bit more confidence. Maybe Ohio State
[8:27] Speaker 1: has to be more aggressive, but you know you're you're
[8:31] Speaker 1: zero and two in the red zone. I think Texas
[8:36] Speaker 1: fans are gonna are gonna they're gonna say Arch is bad.
[8:40] Speaker 1: But Sark now is one in eight against top six
[8:43] Speaker 1: teams at Texas, and I think this one. I know
[8:48] Speaker 1: Arch is the better headline, but Sark's gonna take some
[8:51] Speaker 1: bullets for this. It just and I like Sark, but
[8:57] Speaker 1: I thought in the end, in the last four quarter,
[9:01] Speaker 1: Arch was eight of fifteen, so the numbers looked a
[9:03] Speaker 1: little better. I think some of that is the coverage
[9:07] Speaker 1: has changed. Right when you've got a fourteen nothing lead.
[9:11] Speaker 1: But I think Sark's going to take a hit on this.
[9:13] Speaker 1: This is not just going to be arch Manning. I
[9:16] Speaker 1: was watching this game with friends as I wrap up
[9:19] Speaker 1: my summer vacation, and there's some Texas fans in the house,
[9:24] Speaker 1: and you know, there's an admiration for Sark's ability to
[9:29] Speaker 1: recruit and stack a roster, But in these big spots,
[9:33] Speaker 1: you get judged as a head coach. And I mean,
[9:35] Speaker 1: let's face it, before the National Championship, Ryan Day losing
[9:39] Speaker 1: to Michigan, loses a huge favorite to Michigan, then he
[9:43] Speaker 1: beats Tennessee. But I mean it felt like a one
[9:45] Speaker 1: or two week period where if Ryan would have lost
[9:48] Speaker 1: to Tennessee last year on the PLATFF, was he in trouble.
[9:51] Speaker 1: So you are judged differently based on how you perform
[9:55] Speaker 1: in these massive stages, and this was another clunker for
[9:58] Speaker 1: Sark on a massive regular season stage. I mean, I
[10:02] Speaker 1: can't remember a college football opener that I was more
[10:06] Speaker 1: jazzed about. I mean, I mean, we were sitting there
[10:08] Speaker 1: watching pregame shows for two hours and congratulations Delite Corso
[10:13] Speaker 1: a remarkable man and incredible career. And I love the
[10:17] Speaker 1: fact that Fox showed the headgear moment and ESPN allowed that.
[10:23] Speaker 1: That was really special. It was really special television. And
[10:27] Speaker 1: I think Corso is on a short list of the
[10:29] Speaker 1: most beloved football commentators of my life, and I thought
[10:36] Speaker 1: that was really cool of ESPN to allow it and
[10:38] Speaker 1: Fox to do it. So tip of the cap to
[10:41] Speaker 1: the management teams of both companies who allowed all of
[10:44] Speaker 1: us to see it. Hey, listen, I want to talk
[10:45] Speaker 1: for a couple of minutes about the Micah Parsons trade.
[10:50] Speaker 1: You know, everybody's going to weigh in on you know
[10:54] Speaker 1: who won the trade. Here's what we've known about Jerry Jones,
[10:58] Speaker 1: the Cowboys owner, in his career. He's a deal maker.
[11:02] Speaker 1: What can't the Cowboys do the last two years make deals? Why?
[11:06] Speaker 1: Because they have no flexibility. That's why I kept saying,
[11:11] Speaker 1: if you're going to pay Dak what you're paying them,
[11:13] Speaker 1: and I wouldn't. If you're going to pay Ceedee Lamb
[11:15] Speaker 1: big money, I would have. If you pay Micah big money,
[11:18] Speaker 1: you don't have flexibility. Before that deal, they couldn't pay
[11:21] Speaker 1: eight million dollars for the Derek Henry potential acquisition. Remember
[11:25] Speaker 1: in free agency, we were screaming, you have the worst
[11:27] Speaker 1: running back room in the league. Go sign Dereck Henry
[11:33] Speaker 1: Ravens did. They had no flexibility last two years in
[11:35] Speaker 1: free agency, So moving Micah is not just about getting
[11:40] Speaker 1: Kenny Clark good run stopper thirty, but good run stopper
[11:43] Speaker 1: or the first round picks that gives you a lot
[11:45] Speaker 1: of flexibility. But now you're going to have the ability
[11:47] Speaker 1: to make more deals. It feels like Dallas has been
[11:50] Speaker 1: trapped for two years and now they're not. I mean,
[11:54] Speaker 1: I would use those I mean, just think about this.
[11:57] Speaker 1: This draft is so good for Dallas having two first
[11:59] Speaker 1: round picks. And I know it's you know, a Green
[12:01] Speaker 1: Bay pick is going to probably be lower first round.
[12:04] Speaker 1: But the reality is, let's say a guy like you know,
[12:07] Speaker 1: Sam Levitt, or there's some other quarterback that pops in
[12:11] Speaker 1: college football this year. Cadeklubnick's going to go high, Drew
[12:16] Speaker 1: Aller's going to go high, Arch Manning is still going
[12:18] Speaker 1: to have great games, who knows, But maybe a Sam
[12:21] Speaker 1: Levitt Arizona State. I mean, Dallas may get their quarterback
[12:25] Speaker 1: if they have the ninth, tenth or eleventh pick in
[12:27] Speaker 1: the draft without giving up that other first round pick.
[12:30] Speaker 1: Then you can go draft your next Michael Parsons. So
[12:33] Speaker 1: I think Dallas did it. I mean, they offered him
[12:36] Speaker 1: forty and he got like forty seven. It's not like
[12:39] Speaker 1: Dallas didn't want him, but they don't have any flexibility.
[12:42] Speaker 1: Green Bay didn't need flexibility. They feel they have their quarterback.
[12:45] Speaker 1: What they need in that division with Kevin O'Connell, Ben
[12:50] Speaker 1: Johnson now Dan Campbell in the Lions O line amor
[12:54] Speaker 1: on Saint Brown Gibbs. They need a playmaker on defense.
[12:58] Speaker 1: They need a pass rusher in green Bay now in
[13:00] Speaker 1: a very offensive leaning division. Green Bay's always got offense.
[13:04] Speaker 1: They've always scored with Matt Lafleur. When's the last time
[13:07] Speaker 1: they had a game wrecker on defense? You know, Reggie White.
[13:10] Speaker 1: So I mean they wanted to go out and just say,
[13:11] Speaker 1: hey man, we're gonna we're gonna go buy him and listen.
[13:14] Speaker 1: Micah creates pressure. It's not that I think he's overrated,
[13:20] Speaker 1: but I would have moved off Micah a year ago.
[13:23] Speaker 1: But I'll defend Dallas. Dallas looked at last year's draft
[13:26] Speaker 1: potentially and said, let's see if we can get a
[13:28] Speaker 1: deal done with Micah. We don't love the draft. This
[13:30] Speaker 1: next draft with six or seven quarterbacks. Just just six
[13:33] Speaker 1: or seven quarterbacks is considered a much better draft. Dallas
[13:37] Speaker 1: maybe says, we'll take we'll take the picks in next
[13:40] Speaker 1: year's draft, and the following year's draft they'll be stronger
[13:43] Speaker 1: than last year's draft. So maybe that was their timing.
[13:45] Speaker 1: But I think I think Dallas wanted and they just
[13:47] Speaker 1: wanted him for a number, and that's not the number
[13:49] Speaker 1: Mike and his agent wanted. So green Bay got their playmaker,
[13:52] Speaker 1: which they've needed for many years, and Dallas got flexibility.
[13:57] Speaker 1: So I you know, everybody has different windows. You know,
[14:00] Speaker 1: green Bay wants to win. Now, Dallas can't compete with
[14:03] Speaker 1: with with you know, Baltimore's roster, or Kansas City's roster,
[14:07] Speaker 1: or Philadelphia's roster. I just don't think they have the personnel.
[14:11] Speaker 1: It would be different if they had a Josh Allen
[14:13] Speaker 1: at quarterback, but they have Dak Off a second surgery
[14:16] Speaker 1: at quarterback. Dak needs elements, he needs to be part
[14:21] Speaker 1: of an entourage to win. Josh Allen, Lamar Mahomes, it's different.
[14:25] Speaker 1: But with Dak, if you're paying Dack that money, you're
[14:28] Speaker 1: limiting I mean, that's why the Kenny Pickett ceedee lamb.
[14:31] Speaker 1: If they stay healthy, it gives you a shot. But
[14:34] Speaker 1: Dak's not going to carry an offense. He's gonna he's
[14:37] Speaker 1: gonna need elements to you know, get into the twenty
[14:43] Speaker 1: four to twenty seven, twenty eight points every Sunday range.
[14:45] Speaker 1: He needs help, so and you get that help through flexibility.
[14:51] Speaker 1: So I think both teams got what they wanted and
[14:54] Speaker 1: it's not an overrated, underrated situation. I thought Dallas two
[14:59] Speaker 1: years ago needed to rebuild. I don't think they're a
[15:02] Speaker 1: very good football team. I think it's one of the
[15:04] Speaker 1: weaker staffs, and I think they're gonna end up with
[15:05] Speaker 1: a top six, seven or eight pick and get their
[15:08] Speaker 1: quarterback without giving up any more draft picks. I honestly
[15:12] Speaker 1: believe that. So congratulations to the Buckeyes big triumph, dominating performance,
[15:19] Speaker 1: Matt Patricia and Matt Patricia's brain making Arch Manning look
[15:24] Speaker 1: completely overwhelmed. Take a deep breath, Game one in Columbus.
[15:30] Speaker 1: I think he'll be fine, but today was not a
[15:33] Speaker 1: great look. The volume
