Colin is joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” to break down all the Week 14 NFL action + college football. They start with the Packers holding off the Bears 28-21 and they both argue that despite the loss the Bears proved to be a big winner on the day and proved they belong in the top tier of NFL teams (3:00). They move to the Steelers win over the Ravens to take control of first place in the AFC North, and they agree that Lamar Jackson looks like a shell of himself and neither team is going anywhere if they make the playoffs (23:30). They react to the final college football playoff rankings and Colin argues the key was getting Miami in, and John explains why he doesn’t like having guaranteed spots for non-power 4 conference teams (29:00). Colin breaks down why bowl games are in big trouble now that multiple teams are pulling out of them (37:30), and why he thinks Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza has likely played his way into becoming the #1 pick in the NFL draft after beating Ohio State (41:00). They go back to the NFL to break down the Bills win over the Bengals and Colin argues that despite the win for Buffalo, they were outschemed, outplayed and can’t be trusted in the postseason (59:00). They recap Shedeur Sanders and the Browns losing to the Titans in a very uneven performance from Shedeur (1:07:00). They pivot to the Broncos win over the Raiders in a game Colin calls “the most lopsided one score game” he’s ever seen and they debate whether the Raiders will blow it up after this season and/or potentially move on from Pete Carroll after only one season (1:16:00). They move to the Seahawks blowout win over the Falcons & Colin explains why you can erase the Jets from Sam Darnold’s resume and that he’s proved to be a legit franchise quarterback (1:21:15). They break down the Rams blowout win over the Cardinals and why the Cardinals are completely out of their depth in an NFC West that features 3 incredible head coaches (1:26:00). Finally, they recap the Vikings drubbing of the Commanders and argue it was JJ McCarthy’s best game and wonder whether Jayden Daniels will physically be able to hold up in the NFL (1:30:00). [1:02] Speaker 1: I'm in my LA office, which is not much of
[1:05] Speaker 1: an office. It's a room with whiskey in the back.
[1:07] Speaker 1: John Middlicoff, the former NFL scout, got his three and
[1:10] Speaker 1: Out podcast. Let's just start with the Green Bay Packers
[1:14] Speaker 1: twenty eight end zone interception Bears twenty one. Caleb didn't
[1:20] Speaker 1: have a very good first half, and he didn't have
[1:21] Speaker 1: a very good final throw. But you know, and I'm
[1:25] Speaker 1: watching this game. Jordan Lowe was very good early, but
[1:28] Speaker 1: Green Bay looked exhausted in the second half because Caleb
[1:33] Speaker 1: just kept extending drives with plays. You know, I wrote
[1:36] Speaker 1: down multiple notes during the game, John, and all these
[1:39] Speaker 1: young quarterbacks, Shooter Sanders, bow Nicks, they're all on the
[1:42] Speaker 1: even except Drake May. Everybody's you don't know when it today.
[1:46] Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy was pretty good, but in the second half,
[1:49] Speaker 1: I did feel like, I mean, Caleb makes plays and
[1:54] Speaker 1: Jesus does he have an arm. A couple of those
[1:56] Speaker 1: throws in the final drive were just and this is
[1:58] Speaker 1: cold weather. It's a great defense. I don't know. I mean,
[2:03] Speaker 1: I think this it's not pretty, but I think losing
[2:09] Speaker 1: to arguably the best team in the league with Jeff
[2:12] Speaker 1: Hafley's defense twenty eight to twenty one. He doesn't throw picks.
[2:15] Speaker 1: It was just a bad throw by him, just he
[2:17] Speaker 1: was short. I come out of that and I'm like,
[2:20] Speaker 1: those are two really good football teams to me.
[2:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought the Bears were a big winner today.
[2:25] Speaker 2: I mean, at one point in time, it's fourteen to
[2:26] Speaker 2: three and you're like, I could see this being like
[2:28] Speaker 2: a thirty one to ten final. Yeah, and he's six
[2:31] Speaker 2: to thirteen in the first half. Ben's trying to make
[2:34] Speaker 2: him play like a pocket quarterback. And what happened in
[2:36] Speaker 2: the second half. You kind of gotta let him run
[2:38] Speaker 2: around and cook. Yeah, I mean that's him, and they
[2:40] Speaker 2: let him run around and cook and he made a
[2:42] Speaker 2: lot of plays. Ben Johnson was fantastic in the second half.
[2:45] Speaker 2: That one drive when it was twenty one to fourteen
[2:48] Speaker 2: and they went seventeen plays almost nine minutes. They ran
[2:52] Speaker 2: a quick screen to Burton on a third down, got
[2:54] Speaker 2: a first down, the touchdown pass to slip the tight
[2:57] Speaker 2: end out. It was like, man, this is the Bears
[3:00] Speaker 2: were impressive today. Mental toughness, physical toughness, because early on
[3:04] Speaker 2: the Packers they were hitting on defense like they were
[3:07] Speaker 2: the eighty five Bears I'm like, it's ten degrees out there.
[3:10] Speaker 2: You got Brady wearing seventeen layers up in the booth
[3:13] Speaker 2: freezing as you know what off. I'm like, this place
[3:16] Speaker 2: looks miserable. And the Bears kind of prove what we've
[3:19] Speaker 2: seen all season. They don't really tap out. And that
[3:22] Speaker 2: was a game there was a moment where you're like,
[3:25] Speaker 2: this could get it. It's in Green Bay. Honestly, be understandable.
[3:28] Speaker 2: They'd won a bunch of games, They've had a great season.
[3:31] Speaker 2: It's like, hey, they end up winning twelve games, you
[3:33] Speaker 2: can lose this, you know, in by a couple of
[3:35] Speaker 2: touchdowns and no one's even gonna judge you. But when
[3:37] Speaker 2: they tied it at twenty one twenty one, my first
[3:40] Speaker 2: thought was this Bears team's real. And when they got
[3:43] Speaker 2: the ball back at twenty eight twenty one, I didn't
[3:46] Speaker 2: think for a second they weren't going to drive down
[3:48] Speaker 2: the field. I felt same. I didn't know if they
[3:50] Speaker 2: were gonna win it or not, but I knew I
[3:53] Speaker 2: would have bet big money that they were gonna be
[3:55] Speaker 2: in the red zone and have a shot, and that's
[3:57] Speaker 2: exactly what happened. I did think listen a lot going
[4:01] Speaker 2: on they haven't. This is the first time this franchise
[4:03] Speaker 2: has been in a moment like this in a long time.
[4:05] Speaker 2: I thought they didn't manage the clock great because it
[4:07] Speaker 2: went from like a minute to twenty seven seconds really fast,
[4:10] Speaker 2: really fast. So I think their back was against the
[4:13] Speaker 2: wall a little bit, a little quicker than they thought.
[4:16] Speaker 2: And they called that play that what works for him
[4:19] Speaker 2: last week, and Caleb was just a little late and
[4:21] Speaker 2: obviously threw it.
[4:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he could have run for the first down, actually,
[4:24] Speaker 1: but I think I think to his credit, earlier this
[4:27] Speaker 1: year he had a similar kind of play and he
[4:30] Speaker 1: ran it in for a touchdown, and we all said
[4:32] Speaker 1: he could have thrown it.
[4:33] Speaker 2: Here.
[4:33] Speaker 1: He opts to throw it, and we've noted this many times.
[4:37] Speaker 1: He doesn't throw a lot of interceptions. He really doesn't.
[4:39] Speaker 1: He's pretty good at throwing the ball in a tough
[4:42] Speaker 1: spot but not giving the defender some of its velocity.
[4:45] Speaker 1: He throws the ball so hard it's not an easy
[4:48] Speaker 1: ball to intercept. At one point, Green Bay had one
[4:50] Speaker 1: hundred and forty nine passing yards to eleven passing yard advantage,
[4:54] Speaker 1: And I even wrote down here, lousy Caleb first down
[4:58] Speaker 1: one of six on third down. But you know, and
[5:01] Speaker 1: I think this is something. This is kind of the
[5:05] Speaker 1: the meld between coaching and quarterback play is that you
[5:10] Speaker 1: do have to and Andy Reid, who you know, Well,
[5:14] Speaker 1: you got to let Mahomes kind of do his thing.
[5:16] Speaker 1: Greg co Sel says on my show every week, he's
[5:20] Speaker 1: just kind of Now, Mahomes is a playmaker. He's not
[5:23] Speaker 1: a classic pocket guy. He throws up most of his
[5:25] Speaker 1: stuff moving now some of it. They have a really
[5:27] Speaker 1: bad offensive line. But you know, it's funny because I
[5:31] Speaker 1: watched Jordan Love. I think you'd admit this. Jordan loves
[5:34] Speaker 1: throwing the deep ball. He loves going I mean, and
[5:37] Speaker 1: he's got the arsenal to do it. Caleb is doing
[5:41] Speaker 1: a lot of tough throws. John, He's rolling to his right,
[5:44] Speaker 1: throwing to the sideline. He's making a lot of throws
[5:47] Speaker 1: down the seam. The degree of difficulty with some of
[5:50] Speaker 1: the Caleb throws, to me, it's like, we got it.
[5:52] Speaker 1: You know, Jordan loves to go over the top, and
[5:54] Speaker 1: he's got the art and he's got the guys to
[5:56] Speaker 1: do it. But I don't know, I just look at
[5:59] Speaker 1: this and I think Green Bay there's an argument they're
[6:03] Speaker 1: as good as anybody in the league. I don't know
[6:07] Speaker 1: if I trust New England in the postseason. I just
[6:09] Speaker 1: they don't run the football. The weather is going to
[6:12] Speaker 1: be crappy. But I came out of this thinking, are
[6:15] Speaker 1: these two Like when I watched this weekend, I watched
[6:18] Speaker 1: Indiana play Ohio State, and I'm like, those are two
[6:20] Speaker 1: of the three best teams I've seen in college football.
[6:23] Speaker 1: I'm watching Bears and Packers today. I think Green Bay
[6:26] Speaker 1: would have blown out a lot of people. I don't
[6:27] Speaker 1: think they would have blown out the Rams. I don't
[6:30] Speaker 1: you know what I mean, but I'm like you. I
[6:32] Speaker 1: came out of this second half I thought Chicago pretty
[6:35] Speaker 1: much did they control the.
[6:36] Speaker 2: Clock well when it's ten degrees like that? Like that
[6:39] Speaker 2: game to me, And I wasn't at either place obviously,
[6:42] Speaker 2: but was dramatically more difficult to play. Then Let's say
[6:45] Speaker 2: the Bills game, which was snowing but didn't feel as
[6:49] Speaker 2: frigid right now, those quarterbacks were like that game. It's
[6:52] Speaker 2: hard to catch. Every time a guy's tackled, you went
[6:56] Speaker 2: once his name gets kicked in the chin, that had
[6:58] Speaker 2: to feel like he landed on I mean, I so
[7:02] Speaker 2: the physicality of that game. But to me, running the
[7:06] Speaker 2: ball in those environments is huge, and the Bears can't.
[7:09] Speaker 2: They got two running backs who were good. Josh Jacobs
[7:12] Speaker 2: on that final drive, the game winning drive, I mean
[7:14] Speaker 2: that one third down play, it should have been a
[7:18] Speaker 2: TfL and what did he do? He cut it, he
[7:20] Speaker 2: broke a tackle and what did he gained? Like fifteen yards? Yeah,
[7:22] Speaker 2: and he's So it's basically Josh Jacobs first, their two
[7:25] Speaker 2: running backs he had he had looking eighty yards and
[7:28] Speaker 2: those two guys had over one hundred yards combined. So
[7:31] Speaker 2: it's it's it's a very physical game, a long drives.
[7:34] Speaker 2: Now the difference is Jordan Love, like you said, Christian Watson,
[7:38] Speaker 2: I looked it up when he scored a second touch
[7:39] Speaker 2: that's five touchdowns last four games. Yeah, and he is
[7:43] Speaker 2: I mean in the transfer portal era. I don't know
[7:45] Speaker 2: if North Dakota State would have kept him. So he's
[7:50] Speaker 2: he looks really good right now. He's flying and Jordan Love,
[7:53] Speaker 2: Jordan Love took notes on those Aaron Rodgers kind of
[7:56] Speaker 2: back foot just let it flame because he is on
[7:59] Speaker 2: the money. He's playing well and he was beside the
[8:01] Speaker 2: one pass, he was really good today. Defensively, you know,
[8:05] Speaker 2: the Bears off and you've talked about this, adding those
[8:08] Speaker 2: offensive linemen. They kind of leaned on them on those
[8:10] Speaker 2: last drives in the fourth quarter. And you can tell Green,
[8:13] Speaker 2: I mean, Micah Parsons the sucking win. You could tell
[8:15] Speaker 2: all those guys, even Caleb in the huddle trying to
[8:18] Speaker 2: catch his breath. That was. That was a playoff game.
[8:21] Speaker 2: I mean, that was it.
[8:22] Speaker 1: That was.
[8:23] Speaker 2: That was fantastic theater. I mean, I was. I'm sure
[8:26] Speaker 2: you were. I'm sure all of America were. I'm sure
[8:28] Speaker 2: the numbers are going to be huge. That was excellent football.
[8:31] Speaker 2: I mean, I'm glad the Bears are good. That was forever.
[8:35] Speaker 2: When's the last time the Bears and Packers played in
[8:37] Speaker 2: a real game that mattered? It's always been the Packers
[8:39] Speaker 2: and Aaron Rodgers going, I own you.
[8:41] Speaker 1: That was.
[8:42] Speaker 2: That was cool. Yeah.
[8:43] Speaker 1: And you know what's interesting is the Packers have done it.
[8:46] Speaker 1: If you take Mica out mostly drafting and developing most
[8:50] Speaker 1: of those receivers. You're Watson, you know, read a lot
[8:54] Speaker 1: of that. Now, Josh Jacobs is an acquisition, but they've
[8:59] Speaker 1: done a little of both. But you know, give Ryan
[9:01] Speaker 1: Pole's credit. You know Dj Moore, they got in a
[9:04] Speaker 1: trade Drew Dolman, their three interior offensive lineman, Joe Tooney,
[9:08] Speaker 1: Montese Sweat. They've taken swings. They missed on Chase Claypool.
[9:12] Speaker 1: That was a miss. And it's not that they haven't
[9:15] Speaker 1: drafted some good players. They got their right tackle and
[9:18] Speaker 1: Caleb Williams obviously, but DeAndre Swift was a move. Chicago
[9:22] Speaker 1: has been a little bit like Green Bay and Philadelphia
[9:24] Speaker 1: in the rams. They'll go in, they'll go in the
[9:27] Speaker 1: league and they'll take some swings, and they've When I
[9:31] Speaker 1: watched Chicago play, I always said to win a Super Bowl,
[9:35] Speaker 1: you have to have your seven best players mostly have
[9:39] Speaker 1: to be in their prime. Well, Dolman is, Tooney is,
[9:43] Speaker 1: DJ Moore is Sweat is I'll tell you Lovelin and
[9:48] Speaker 1: Caleb Williams. Now, that's becoming a real relationship. He's not
[9:52] Speaker 1: in his prime yet, but you can tell that's Caleb's guy.
[9:55] Speaker 2: Well, I would say this to the draft. You know
[9:57] Speaker 2: Luther Burden, he had four catches for fifteen sixty seven yards,
[10:01] Speaker 2: a big catch on that final drive, you know, to
[10:03] Speaker 2: kind of get that drive going. Lovelin had the touchdown
[10:06] Speaker 2: pass and just makes big plays. Manujai is what a
[10:09] Speaker 2: seventh round guy. I mean, he looks he looks fantastic.
[10:12] Speaker 2: He looks every bit the same as Swift. So now
[10:14] Speaker 2: you have a one to two combination. The Packers are
[10:17] Speaker 2: you know, the backup did have a nice run, but
[10:20] Speaker 2: I mean they're they're gonna ride Josh Jacobs like you
[10:22] Speaker 2: would Derek Henry or Christian McCaffrey. You know, the Bears
[10:26] Speaker 2: having multiple running backs with a coach that's that's not
[10:29] Speaker 2: afraid to lean on them, and you know it does
[10:31] Speaker 2: a good job of skiing up the run. But Ben
[10:33] Speaker 2: Johnson on the drive that tied at twenty one twenty one,
[10:37] Speaker 2: had a couple of play calls that were just fantastic.
[10:40] Speaker 2: And he one thing that's gonna be hard for him
[10:42] Speaker 2: because he's, you can tell, like his nature. I mean,
[10:45] Speaker 2: he's a little tight. It's hard for him to let
[10:48] Speaker 2: Caleb just kind of be usc Caleb. And if they're
[10:50] Speaker 2: gonna go and win playoff games and win a game
[10:54] Speaker 2: like today, you gotta gotta let him be him. And
[10:56] Speaker 2: he tried. I mean, he gave him multiple options on
[10:58] Speaker 2: that last play. I think they thought that I think
[11:01] Speaker 2: it was Comet was the tight end that he was
[11:03] Speaker 2: thrown to would be a little more open. The dB
[11:05] Speaker 2: made a good play and then Caleb was probably a
[11:07] Speaker 2: half chepe.
[11:09] Speaker 1: Generally in the rule in the end zone, if you
[11:11] Speaker 1: throw it to the front, throw it low. If you
[11:13] Speaker 1: throw it to the back, throw it high. So Caleb
[11:15] Speaker 1: kind of got caught in between. It was high but
[11:17] Speaker 1: not high enough.
[11:19] Speaker 2: The old Weather plays a part doesn't quite fly because
[11:22] Speaker 2: his arms.
[11:23] Speaker 1: It's a dead ball, you know. The the other thing
[11:25] Speaker 1: it was, this was a really important game for green Bay.
[11:30] Speaker 1: They were a six and a half point favorite. John
[11:32] Speaker 1: if they lose this game at home to Chicago, you know,
[11:36] Speaker 1: we say we all wanted to watch, but the Bears
[11:39] Speaker 1: were almost a touchdown dog. There was some pressure on
[11:43] Speaker 1: green Bay, and you.
[11:46] Speaker 2: Know, I think it was all on green Bay. I
[11:49] Speaker 2: think it was one hundred percent on green Bay. The
[11:51] Speaker 2: Bears were playing with house money.
[11:52] Speaker 1: From where I was sitting, yeah, and I think they
[11:55] Speaker 1: took green Bay's best shot and vice versa. I just
[11:58] Speaker 1: thought it was fantastic. That's about as good as the
[12:02] Speaker 1: NFL gets between Indiana, Ohio State and green Bay in Chicago.
[12:06] Speaker 1: We've had some good weekends, but that was Chicago's a
[12:09] Speaker 1: legitimate NFL team, and unlike Detroit, which is you're not
[12:14] Speaker 1: quite sure what you get weak to week. Also, I
[12:17] Speaker 1: do think it's a disadvantage having you know, Jared Goff.
[12:21] Speaker 1: There's certain things you can't do. A couple of times
[12:24] Speaker 1: today Caleb escaped the pocket on those last two drives,
[12:27] Speaker 1: and I'm like Jesus, he really does have a nice
[12:30] Speaker 1: sense of what's around him. Burrow's got this. Burrow just
[12:34] Speaker 1: kind of feels it, you know, he can just kind
[12:36] Speaker 1: of tell. So maybe it's hearing, but there were a
[12:40] Speaker 1: couple of times today with Caleb, I'm like, man, some
[12:42] Speaker 1: of that's instinctive. You can't teach some of that stuff.
[12:44] Speaker 1: With his pocket feel.
[12:46] Speaker 2: Well, I think right now him and Josh Allen are
[12:48] Speaker 2: the best scramblers. You know, Burrow doesn't go that far
[12:51] Speaker 2: outside the pocket, right, He's just great at moving up,
[12:54] Speaker 2: moving to the left, but he's staying within what a
[12:56] Speaker 2: three or four yards kind of radius. And then to
[12:59] Speaker 2: get rid of the ball, Caleb and Josh take off
[13:01] Speaker 2: to then throw, especially Caleb. You know, Josh also runs
[13:04] Speaker 2: probably more than Caleb. Caleb will run for a first down,
[13:07] Speaker 2: but to me, it was huge for the Packers because
[13:10] Speaker 2: if they lose this game one, the Bears would have
[13:12] Speaker 2: multiple more wins. But the Rams dominate today, Seattle dominates.
[13:16] Speaker 2: The Niners are going to come off a bye. They're
[13:18] Speaker 2: playing the Titans, so all of a sudden, you look,
[13:21] Speaker 2: are you headed to be the seventh seed, which you
[13:23] Speaker 2: know would have been a major problem given that you
[13:26] Speaker 2: just made this huge trade for Micah Parsons. The expectations
[13:29] Speaker 2: and their team. You watch them, they are a legitimate
[13:32] Speaker 2: team that can win the Super Bowl. I mean their
[13:34] Speaker 2: defense and if they get ahead and those rushers can
[13:37] Speaker 2: just fly all their dbs hit. I mean their defense
[13:40] Speaker 2: is you know, the Bears defense.
[13:42] Speaker 1: Isn't that great?
[13:43] Speaker 2: Right? They make plays then they come through in big moments.
[13:46] Speaker 2: But the Packers, I would say ten of their eleven
[13:49] Speaker 2: guys are hitting, kind of like an old school denv.
[13:52] Speaker 2: Seattle team a decade ago. That's a high end defense.
[13:55] Speaker 1: And Jeff Haffley, they run a lot of stuff. I
[13:58] Speaker 1: mean that one play where I mean Micah is literally
[14:02] Speaker 1: almost jumping, then he scales back and within a heartbeat
[14:05] Speaker 1: he's twelve yards off the line of scrimmage in space.
[14:09] Speaker 2: They got virstule players, right, You know Micah is a
[14:11] Speaker 2: unique player where Shaan Gary is a unique player. I
[14:14] Speaker 2: mean you look at those two guys. Wasn't where Shawan
[14:16] Speaker 2: Gary the number one overall recruit when Jim Harbaugh got
[14:18] Speaker 2: it was a number one d yep. I don't know
[14:21] Speaker 2: where Micah fell, but I would imagine pretty high when
[14:23] Speaker 2: he went to Penn State. So you're talking about some
[14:25] Speaker 2: elite blue chip kids from when they were like fifteen sixteen,
[14:28] Speaker 2: and you watch them now. I mean those two guys alone,
[14:32] Speaker 2: I mean you don't know what to do right with
[14:34] Speaker 2: with fifty two and number one. I mean they are
[14:36] Speaker 2: their team speed up front. I mean Caleb, what did
[14:39] Speaker 2: they say? He ran twenty miles an hour again and
[14:42] Speaker 2: they are right behind him. I mean usually Caleb, when
[14:44] Speaker 2: he gets away, it's like he's got a little gap today.
[14:46] Speaker 2: I think he's not used to a guy literally going
[14:49] Speaker 2: step for step with me, and he had to adjust
[14:52] Speaker 2: as the game went and he did. I mean he's okay, Caleb, Listen,
[14:56] Speaker 2: his accuracy issues, you know, at times can be a
[14:59] Speaker 2: little mad, but there is no disputing his you know,
[15:02] Speaker 2: there we see some guys You're like, how is this
[15:04] Speaker 2: guy a high pick that this guy's physical attributes are
[15:07] Speaker 2: pretty eye opening, and they're actually today in the cold
[15:11] Speaker 2: was because he made a comment Brady said that he
[15:14] Speaker 2: felt more confident in a cold weather game. You know,
[15:16] Speaker 2: he's a DC kid, He's used to playing in the
[15:18] Speaker 2: cold weather. And you know, he's six or thirteen in
[15:20] Speaker 2: the first half and like, but as the game went on,
[15:23] Speaker 2: like his ball is not going to be affected, you know,
[15:26] Speaker 2: throwing that least God the Duvernet pass rolling to his
[15:29] Speaker 2: right late in the game, and the touchdown pass to Zakias, Yeah,
[15:33] Speaker 2: you know, which was an incredible pass and catch.
[15:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. I would say if you just lined
[15:40] Speaker 1: up arm talent in the league and just in velocity,
[15:45] Speaker 1: Caleb's top three or four in the league might beig one. Yeah,
[15:48] Speaker 1: his ball totally cuts through bad weather. Today's show brought

[17:35] Speaker 1: All right, I want to talk Pittsburgh. It was a
[17:37] Speaker 1: winner gets first place, Pittsburgh twenty seven, Baltimore twenty two.
[17:42] Speaker 1: I thought Mike Tomlin got a little lucky today because
[17:45] Speaker 1: I thought the tight end Isaiah likely. I thought that
[17:48] Speaker 1: was a touchdown. They reversed it. I would have called
[17:50] Speaker 1: if I was an official. I'm still not sure. I
[17:55] Speaker 1: mean Pittsburgh surrendered four hundred twenty yards, lost badly, time
[17:59] Speaker 1: of possession, only a thirteen first downs. I thought Aaron
[18:02] Speaker 1: played pretty well for a forty two year old with
[18:04] Speaker 1: no run. Game on the road. DK Metcaffe and Aaron
[18:08] Speaker 1: had a really good day. It's it's what's interesting. The
[18:11] Speaker 1: Steelers still can't run the ball two point two yards
[18:14] Speaker 1: of carry, and it felt like a reprieve. I think
[18:18] Speaker 1: this is why you got Aaron Rodgers. The defense isn't great.
[18:22] Speaker 1: They can't run the ball. I mean, the two guys
[18:26] Speaker 1: you went and got DK Metcalfe and Aaron Rodgers saved
[18:29] Speaker 1: your bacon today. Again, what did you make of the
[18:33] Speaker 1: likely non touchdown?
[18:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree to Tony Romo, that's what are we doing.
[18:37] Speaker 2: I mean, that's it was a pretty clear touchdown. But
[18:40] Speaker 2: I also thought I thought the story of the game
[18:43] Speaker 2: is Lamar Jackson looks like a shell of himself. No quote.
[18:46] Speaker 2: Now he's I don't know what you know his percentage is,
[18:49] Speaker 2: but it's closer to fifty than it feels to seventy
[18:52] Speaker 2: or eighty. I mean, he looks not nearly now relative
[18:55] Speaker 2: to his standard looks slow, clearly is just a little off.
[18:59] Speaker 2: Still makes a couple of plays, But I mean, I
[19:02] Speaker 2: think the guy that we've seen become just an all
[19:04] Speaker 2: time great player over you know, the prime of his career.
[19:08] Speaker 2: Whatever the version is he's playing at now, is is
[19:11] Speaker 2: limiting him. I mean, you have that one awful pick
[19:13] Speaker 2: where typically that's a Lamar play lobbit right over a guy.
[19:16] Speaker 2: When you're scrambling. How many plays in a scrambling around
[19:19] Speaker 2: you go from him to that Caleb scrambling around, It's
[19:22] Speaker 2: like they're playing at different speeds. Yeah.
[19:25] Speaker 1: No, I mean he is a Flowers andrews Henry. He's
[19:29] Speaker 1: got playmakers. We know, the coaching staff is fine. It's
[19:34] Speaker 1: I thought the final drive of the game by him,
[19:38] Speaker 1: it was just it just there was nothing to it.
[19:40] Speaker 1: I kind of feel like with Lamar Jackson, we've gotten
[19:43] Speaker 1: to a point where anything over fifteen yards I don't
[19:47] Speaker 1: necessarily trust him. I just don't think he's right. I
[19:52] Speaker 1: mean that's my take on this, and I've said it
[19:54] Speaker 1: for weeks. Brock Purdy, when I saw him on Monday
[19:56] Speaker 1: night throw two picks and they were both behind the guy,
[19:58] Speaker 1: I'm like, well, he's not numb percent I can tell.
[20:01] Speaker 1: I think Lamar is hurt and he just doesn't want
[20:03] Speaker 1: to mention it because he's an athletic guy and he
[20:05] Speaker 1: doesn't want to give the defense who he plays a
[20:07] Speaker 1: heads up. I mean, these these are not serious. I mean,
[20:12] Speaker 1: neither one of these teams can do anything in the playoffs.
[20:15] Speaker 1: I mean, sometimes you win a division and that's the
[20:17] Speaker 1: best you can do. I mean, Mike Tomlin's probably now.
[20:21] Speaker 1: The way Baltimore is playing Burrow, you know lost, I
[20:23] Speaker 1: thought Cincinnati was going to win that game. We'll talk
[20:25] Speaker 1: about that. I thought Cincinnati had them, and then Joe
[20:28] Speaker 1: Burrow one of the few awful picks of his life.
[20:33] Speaker 1: I mean, Lamar was what nineteen of thirty five with
[20:36] Speaker 1: a seventy two passer rating.
[20:39] Speaker 2: Yeah. I one thing too is last year. Remember early
[20:42] Speaker 2: on in the season, the Ravens defense was terrible, and
[20:45] Speaker 2: then they figured something out and they became a lot
[20:46] Speaker 2: better as the season went on. Today, there was a
[20:49] Speaker 2: moment it was it was twenty to sixteen, and you know,
[20:53] Speaker 2: the Steelers were kind of back against the wall. You're like, God,
[20:55] Speaker 2: this thing's kind of going to fall apart here, and
[20:57] Speaker 2: Rogers just a pretty elementary play, drops it off to Warren.
[21:02] Speaker 2: He walks in for a touchdown. There's no one even
[21:05] Speaker 2: around him. So it went from twenty to sixteen to
[21:07] Speaker 2: boom twenty seven to sixteen. And the way that the
[21:10] Speaker 2: Ravens are playing on offense, it's like, I don't they're
[21:12] Speaker 2: in trouble and they are just listening. They dug themselves
[21:16] Speaker 2: in a hole early in the season, they don't look
[21:20] Speaker 2: right and clear their quarterback's banged up, and I listen,
[21:22] Speaker 2: Rogers is taking shots and everyone needs to shut up
[21:24] Speaker 2: about us, like you guys have been losing game after
[21:27] Speaker 2: game and looking terrible. So I mean, I don't know.
[21:31] Speaker 2: I bet against him pretty big this week. I had
[21:32] Speaker 2: little to no faith in the Steelers, but I thought
[21:35] Speaker 2: today was as much of an indictment in the Ravens
[21:38] Speaker 2: just they're just not very good like the Steelers. If
[21:40] Speaker 2: they are the four seed playing whoever that they end
[21:43] Speaker 2: up drawing, I'd be stunned if they win a playoff game.
[21:46] Speaker 2: And I don't think all these stories coming out the
[21:48] Speaker 2: last couple of days about Tom's contract set up like
[21:51] Speaker 2: that the Rooney. I think these thing's kind of being
[21:53] Speaker 2: laid out like there's you know, we're coming to the
[21:55] Speaker 2: end of the road.
[21:57] Speaker 1: Yeah. And I also think Kansas City doesn't feel the same.
[21:59] Speaker 1: But Kansas City was getting the Super Bowls, Baltimore wasn't
[22:02] Speaker 1: winning playoff games, and they feel less than that. Sober
[22:06] Speaker 1: Baltimore the previous two years has blown out more teams
[22:09] Speaker 1: than anybody in the sport. The Lions the previous two years,
[22:13] Speaker 1: and the Ravens have kicked a uno out of teams
[22:16] Speaker 1: four to five times. Now, Seattle's the team this year
[22:18] Speaker 1: that has beaten six teams by two touchdowns or more. So,
[22:22] Speaker 1: they're just something that's not right.
[22:24] Speaker 2: So I look at click at both those two teams, right,
[22:26] Speaker 2: I mean, they've had their moments. The Lions were the
[22:29] Speaker 2: number one seed last year. Two years ago, they had
[22:31] Speaker 2: the Niners up twenty four to seven at halftime in
[22:33] Speaker 2: the NFC Championship. The Ravens have the home field two
[22:36] Speaker 2: years ago, lost to the Chiefs. Last year, it's like
[22:39] Speaker 2: they should beat the Bills in the second round, they
[22:41] Speaker 2: lose the game. Kind of feels like they're little moments
[22:44] Speaker 2: for both those two teams. Kind of shut.
[22:47] Speaker 1: And now for our next segment, Whiskey Business. Yes, Whiskey
[22:51] Speaker 1: Business brought to you by Green River Whiskey, the official
[22:53] Speaker 1: whiskey of the Colin Coward Podcast. Okay, I want to
[22:56] Speaker 1: go to college football for the next ten to fifteen minutes.
[22:59] Speaker 1: Then we'll come back to Bengals, Bills and some of
[23:02] Speaker 1: the NFL stuff. So I thought the committee and this John,
[23:07] Speaker 1: I feel like this happens every year because college football
[23:10] Speaker 1: is so tribal. A lot of college football fans, they
[23:14] Speaker 1: live in a small town, it's their team. If you
[23:15] Speaker 1: live in Philadelphia, you love the Phillies, you love the Eagles,
[23:18] Speaker 1: you're a sixer fan, you love Villanova basketball. You've got
[23:21] Speaker 1: a lot of different you know, there's a lot of
[23:23] Speaker 1: different stuff in your life. You travel a lot. For
[23:27] Speaker 1: college football fans, they live and breathe with their team.
[23:30] Speaker 1: Often it's the biggest entertainment in their state or in
[23:33] Speaker 1: their town. So we argue, we yell, we scream. I
[23:37] Speaker 1: basically thought, I mean, you can you can say what
[23:41] Speaker 1: you want about Alabama, but they're favored over Oklahoma, so
[23:44] Speaker 1: they're obviously one of the twelve best teams. They listen Georgia.
[23:48] Speaker 1: They had people knock Alabama getting in over Notre Dame.
[23:53] Speaker 1: They did go to Athens and beat Georgia. There is
[23:55] Speaker 1: some value in that, you know, Notre Dame. My take
[23:59] Speaker 1: on Notre Dame is all you had to do is
[24:01] Speaker 1: either beat Miami or beat Texas A and M. You
[24:04] Speaker 1: had to win one of those two games and you didn't.
[24:07] Speaker 1: So USC, which has been a bad road team, can't
[24:11] Speaker 1: be your big w Go ask USC fans they're disappointed
[24:15] Speaker 1: in their season. That's like beating Michigan this year, it
[24:18] Speaker 1: doesn't really count for much. Michigan's really not very good
[24:21] Speaker 1: with a true freshman quarterback. So I thought Bien. I mean,
[24:24] Speaker 1: I wouldn't put Tulane in or James Madison, but I've
[24:27] Speaker 1: never been a believer in the little guy. We all
[24:30] Speaker 1: know who recruits the best players. Although I do think
[24:32] Speaker 1: Tulane can beat Old miss But I think going Indianajan
[24:37] Speaker 1: Ohio State to Georgia three, Texas Tech four, I have
[24:40] Speaker 1: no problem with it. I think Bama Oklahoma is a
[24:43] Speaker 1: great game. I probably take Bama close. I like Miami
[24:46] Speaker 1: against Texas A and M and MS favored by four
[24:49] Speaker 1: and a half. But I thought I thought getting Miami
[24:54] Speaker 1: in was the key to all of this, so I
[24:59] Speaker 1: wasn't deep bothered. Listen, Texas, you lose three games, and
[25:04] Speaker 1: by the way, you were in close games against a
[25:06] Speaker 1: lot of bad teams. Did it bother you? Were you
[25:09] Speaker 1: okay with a final result?
[25:12] Speaker 2: No? I wasn't because I do think back to the
[25:15] Speaker 2: little guy you know better than me. But it clearly
[25:18] Speaker 2: fell a couple of years ago when they created this,
[25:20] Speaker 2: and they included that a non Power five team would
[25:24] Speaker 2: essentially be a lock. It felt like they did that
[25:26] Speaker 2: so they didn't get sued, right and basically just have
[25:29] Speaker 2: it for the top four power conferences. And I got
[25:33] Speaker 2: my starting football at Fresno State, which was playing Boise State,
[25:36] Speaker 2: which I would say Utah and Boise State kind of
[25:39] Speaker 2: created we deserve a seat at the table. Yeah, well,
[25:42] Speaker 2: look back at Utah before they became what they've become
[25:45] Speaker 2: at the Power four level, they had a team with
[25:47] Speaker 2: probably ten pros on some of their better teams. Boys.
[25:50] Speaker 2: I was at President when we played Boise State, they
[25:52] Speaker 2: had eleven guys drafted on a team and they were
[25:54] Speaker 2: beating Oregon in Georgia. Those teams are outlied. They have
[25:58] Speaker 2: nothing in common with JMU and to end, so to me,
[26:02] Speaker 2: to have this setup and allow them a guaranteed seat
[26:07] Speaker 2: at the table, and this year got all screwed up
[26:08] Speaker 2: because the ACC sucked and two of their teams you know,
[26:12] Speaker 2: took spots is a joke. And to me, what has
[26:16] Speaker 2: to happen is the Power for needs to have their
[26:20] Speaker 2: own playoff. We don't need to invite them, and the
[26:23] Speaker 2: non the Group of five whatever they call it, have
[26:26] Speaker 2: their own playoff, and the Division one have a playoff
[26:29] Speaker 2: because I think that's where we need to go because
[26:32] Speaker 2: the Notre Dame Miami argument only became an argument because
[26:35] Speaker 2: Tulane and JMU were taking a spot Alabama kicking us
[26:40] Speaker 2: out for playing a game when a bunch of teams
[26:42] Speaker 2: did not have to play a game yesterday and google
[26:44] Speaker 2: our schedule. We were playing a lot of teams. They
[26:47] Speaker 2: had a stretch of like four straight games. It was
[26:50] Speaker 2: really impressive. I remember everyone bragging about it, and then
[26:54] Speaker 2: everyone just forgets about it because they get their ass
[26:55] Speaker 2: kicked by Kirby Smart, who I don't know, is like
[26:58] Speaker 2: the modern day new Nick Saban, So it's like who
[27:00] Speaker 2: literally was trained by him. The problem is the little guy,
[27:04] Speaker 2: And if you're comparing the Boise State with Chris Peterson,
[27:08] Speaker 2: that's an outlier little guy team. You know who that was.
[27:11] Speaker 2: That was a team that probably could have won a
[27:12] Speaker 2: national championship. Tu Lane, I'm with you. I watched it
[27:14] Speaker 2: on Friday. They look pretty good. Their coach is also
[27:17] Speaker 2: his foot's half out, he's already ready to take on right.
[27:20] Speaker 2: So even if the same thing with JMU, their coach
[27:22] Speaker 2: is UCLA. So I immediately, like most people, what is
[27:26] Speaker 2: JMU a three touchdown underdog. What is Tulane almost We
[27:31] Speaker 2: saw Tulane play Old miss who people say, you know,
[27:35] Speaker 2: before Lane left could have won a national championship. I
[27:38] Speaker 2: think that's a little bit of a stretch. They can
[27:41] Speaker 2: win a playoff game or two. They're not winning a
[27:43] Speaker 2: national chamber, but they're a real playoff team. They played Tulane,
[27:46] Speaker 2: they won forty five to ten. The committee screwed up
[27:49] Speaker 2: like Notre Dame and listen, I don't know where you stand.
[27:53] Speaker 2: They did not handle it well, like quitting the bowl game.
[27:56] Speaker 2: It's like, guys, did they pulled like you know you
[27:59] Speaker 2: can during that period of time. I know you can
[28:01] Speaker 2: play to young guys practices, So it's a very you
[28:05] Speaker 2: know you're big on don't make emotional decisions. That clearly
[28:08] Speaker 2: feels like very emotional decision that no way they pull
[28:11] Speaker 2: they were gonna go to Florida and play BYU. You
[28:14] Speaker 2: can't get anything out of that week. You're not going
[28:16] Speaker 2: to the playoffs either way. You might as well take
[28:18] Speaker 2: advantage of, I don't know, a free five day vacation
[28:21] Speaker 2: in Florida to work on your program and get some
[28:24] Speaker 2: And here's the other thing. Most guys in college football,
[28:26] Speaker 2: even at Georgia don't play in the NFL. So you
[28:29] Speaker 2: got a lot of seniors on Notre Dame that are
[28:31] Speaker 2: gonna be working at Goldman Sacks here in six months.
[28:34] Speaker 2: You don't think they there's like, coach, you quit. And
[28:36] Speaker 2: I have a lot of respect for Marcus Freeman, and
[28:38] Speaker 2: who knows it might not have been all his call, right,
[28:40] Speaker 2: that's that's an embarrassing call. But to me, it all
[28:43] Speaker 2: gets back to the non Power four teams getting involved
[28:47] Speaker 2: is screwed everything up and created this situation where a
[28:52] Speaker 2: pitted Notre Dame in Miami and it's like, what Notre
[28:55] Speaker 2: Dame in Miami have nothing in common with two late
[28:57] Speaker 2: especially James Madison.
[28:59] Speaker 1: Well, and I think sometimes it remember when COVID hit,
[29:02] Speaker 1: we just kind of made stuff up for two years.
[29:04] Speaker 1: We didn't know. Anytime you have a transition, we're seeing
[29:07] Speaker 1: it with AI. We saw it with dot Com thirty
[29:11] Speaker 1: years ago. Sometimes in certain sports or in certain businesses,
[29:17] Speaker 1: it changes rapidly. I mean we went from not we
[29:20] Speaker 1: went from paying a player's the death penalty to bidding
[29:24] Speaker 1: wars on high school players. And I mean so literally
[29:28] Speaker 1: the thing that literally got you SMU death penalty is
[29:31] Speaker 1: now you brag about it and it happened overnight, so
[29:35] Speaker 1: there was no guardrails, and then transfer portals like wilder
[29:39] Speaker 1: than free agency and coaches making twelve million. So I've
[29:43] Speaker 1: seen it with a pandemic. I've seen it with AI,
[29:46] Speaker 1: I've seen it all politically with Trump. Oh, this is
[29:49] Speaker 1: a different kind of white house. College football is going
[29:52] Speaker 1: through this wild transition and they're not quite there yet.
[29:58] Speaker 1: I'm with you, I don't listen. Go look at national
[30:02] Speaker 1: signing Day, Alabama, Notre Dame, USC Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan.
[30:07] Speaker 1: We all know Georgia LSU. We all know who's got.
[30:10] Speaker 2: The Miami Notre Dame.
[30:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, so Mario Christobal, I mean when you watched Miami play,
[30:16] Speaker 1: and that was my take on Miami. You can't let
[30:20] Speaker 1: Miami go. First of all, they have better O and
[30:22] Speaker 1: D lines than Notre Dame. And I was talking about
[30:25] Speaker 1: this the other day on the air. Notre Dame played
[30:28] Speaker 1: seven teams rated below one hundred. Defensively, they played one
[30:33] Speaker 1: great defensive team one Miami and Jeremiah Love rushed for
[30:38] Speaker 1: thirty three yards. They literally couldn't run the ball. You
[30:41] Speaker 1: just had to beat Miami or Texas. A and m
[30:43] Speaker 1: you had to beat one of them. You couldn't beat either.
[30:46] Speaker 1: And so once I watched the Pittsburgh game, I'm like,
[30:48] Speaker 1: I started deep diving, sitting at home, googling NCAA stats,
[30:52] Speaker 1: and I'm like, this isn't right. So I did think
[30:54] Speaker 1: the committee moved them next to each other, knowing BYU
[30:58] Speaker 1: was going to get the you know what kicked out
[30:59] Speaker 1: of the mgame by text, and when they lost, they
[31:01] Speaker 1: could leap Frogham. That I was happy with. And I
[31:04] Speaker 1: actually like Miami. I think Miami is going to beat
[31:07] Speaker 1: A and m I think Bama's gonna it's Oklahoma they'll beat.
[31:12] Speaker 1: I think Bama is a favorite, will win. I just
[31:15] Speaker 1: think we're going through.
[31:17] Speaker 2: I mean, Oregon's going to murder these guys.
[31:19] Speaker 1: Thinks Oregon could win by forty ol Miss Tulane. I
[31:24] Speaker 1: literally nobody who cares. I don't even but I guess
[31:27] Speaker 1: I came out of it. I will say this, but
[31:33] Speaker 1: Notre Dame saying we're not going to go to the bull. Baylor,
[31:36] Speaker 1: I think has come out saying we're not going to
[31:38] Speaker 1: accept the ball. I do think it's a moment in
[31:41] Speaker 1: time where bowl games are in big trouble and John,
[31:46] Speaker 1: you know me and you've listened to me. I am
[31:48] Speaker 1: a big believer and live your life through the windshield. Listen,
[31:52] Speaker 1: the PAC twelve people calling, why didn't you fight for
[31:55] Speaker 1: the PAC twelve because the PAC twelve teams were making
[31:57] Speaker 1: thirty million dollars in the Big ten were making ninety
[31:59] Speaker 1: million the year it was. I was talking to USC,
[32:02] Speaker 1: I was talking to these athletic directors. They're like, we
[32:05] Speaker 1: can't compete. So the four best, or you know, at
[32:09] Speaker 1: least three of the four Washington, Oregon, USC are like, okay,
[32:12] Speaker 1: we're gonna, especially USC and Oregon, we're gonna we're gonna
[32:16] Speaker 1: double our money here or is it USC UCLA double?
[32:20] Speaker 1: I forget which us he is for sure, So I'm
[32:23] Speaker 1: not somebody that just I think we'd seen enough of
[32:25] Speaker 1: COAL against Washington State and Oregon State against Arizona. So
[32:30] Speaker 1: my take is that really bothered people, the convergence. But
[32:33] Speaker 1: clearly the ratings are up, we're getting more big games.
[32:36] Speaker 1: We have to now get over the bulls. They just
[32:38] Speaker 1: don't matter. And John, I don't think conference championships matter
[32:42] Speaker 1: going forward. I would get rid of them as well.
[32:44] Speaker 2: That's what I was gonna say. Next. I think that's why,
[32:47] Speaker 2: you know, the conversation over the last forty eight definitely
[32:50] Speaker 2: twenty four hours was Alabama getting booted. Well N tier
[32:55] Speaker 2: until we know for sure it's concrete that the conference
[32:58] Speaker 2: championships are done, these people in the committee could not
[33:01] Speaker 2: get rid of Alabama because they lost in a game
[33:04] Speaker 2: that that is very economically important. I tried to explain
[33:07] Speaker 2: to Maria last night. I'm like, it is amazing how
[33:10] Speaker 2: hard Ohio State, like I got Indiana trying really hard.
[33:13] Speaker 2: Ohio State's defending champs. They could lose this game, they'll
[33:16] Speaker 2: be too Yet they played that game like it was
[33:18] Speaker 2: the national champion and I respected it because like this
[33:20] Speaker 2: game doesn't really matter, you know, but it felt like
[33:24] Speaker 2: a national championship, but the other games didn't really and
[33:29] Speaker 2: I think they've lost a little juice. What I think
[33:32] Speaker 2: is clearly going to happen is they're going to expand
[33:35] Speaker 2: it to sixteen and the Conference championship game will turn
[33:38] Speaker 2: into more of a play in game Weekend where the
[33:41] Speaker 2: SEC played Texas Vanderbilt playing I don't know who the
[33:44] Speaker 2: two teams would be in the Big ten USC for someone,
[33:47] Speaker 2: and that that game is basically like the NBA kind
[33:50] Speaker 2: of did with their playing game. You win, you're in
[33:53] Speaker 2: the You're in the playoffs.
[33:54] Speaker 1: When you want to enjoy life simpler pleasures, reach for
[33:58] Speaker 1: Green River Whiskey. Whether dry whiskey or single barrel bourbon,
[34:03] Speaker 1: you're getting over a century of craftsmanship packed into every bottle.
[34:07] Speaker 1: Hop on over to Green River Whiskey dot com and
[34:10] Speaker 1: discover a legend in a bottle today. For the record,
[34:14] Speaker 1: the committee put Miami over Notre Dame. They want head
[34:17] Speaker 1: to head. The committee also put Texas over Vandy. They
[34:20] Speaker 1: won the head to head. So in the end, the
[34:22] Speaker 1: committee said head to head did matter. We just didn't
[34:25] Speaker 1: like that it took to the final rank If you
[34:27] Speaker 1: go look at the final rankings, is that it did
[34:30] Speaker 1: matter to the committee? No, I think listen, think about
[34:32] Speaker 1: the changes in college football A and IL. You can
[34:35] Speaker 1: pay players, B, the transfer portals, the wild Wild West
[34:39] Speaker 1: C Bulls don't matter, D is going to be Conference
[34:42] Speaker 1: championships don't matter. Oh, I forgot to have mentioned we
[34:46] Speaker 1: now have a twelve team playoff that'll move to sixteen.
[34:49] Speaker 1: I will say one of my real takes because it
[34:53] Speaker 1: made me happy that Miami made it in. It made
[34:54] Speaker 1: it feel more credible. Fernando Mendoza. I've now watched them
[34:59] Speaker 1: begainst Ohio State and Penn State, neither game at home,
[35:02] Speaker 1: and they have good receivers. I'm not saying that, dude, big,
[35:07] Speaker 1: big arm, accurate, deep. I felt like he secured the
[35:11] Speaker 1: number one pick. I thought Tennessee won today, so we'll
[35:14] Speaker 1: see who gets the number one pick. If it's the
[35:16] Speaker 1: Jets or Tennessee. He looks like such a lock as
[35:19] Speaker 1: the number one pick to me.
[35:21] Speaker 2: I mean, Raiders are still very alive too, for the
[35:24] Speaker 2: number one pick. They lost again.
[35:25] Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sorry the postgame interview. He's got that
[35:28] Speaker 1: aw shucks Andrew luck thing, big smart, hard worker, big arm,
[35:34] Speaker 1: great deep ball. You could just watch the Penn State
[35:37] Speaker 1: in Ohio State games. Take two drives out of those games.
[35:41] Speaker 1: His accuracy that last drive. You and I talked about
[35:43] Speaker 1: it at Penn State. Jesus, he went like five for five.
[35:45] Speaker 1: They were all gorgeous, those Ohio State corners. John, That's
[35:49] Speaker 1: the best secondary in college football in years. You had
[35:51] Speaker 1: to have. It was like tiny, little football sized spaces
[35:55] Speaker 1: to put the ball.
[35:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think not that he gets crushed for,
[35:59] Speaker 2: but definitely people in the league bring up. You know,
[36:01] Speaker 2: he's goofy, nerdy, kind of like Cousins was at the
[36:04] Speaker 2: same age. Yeah, but physically he's in, you know, from
[36:07] Speaker 2: an athletic standpoint, from a deep ball standpoint. I thought
[36:10] Speaker 2: yesterday at halftime, a couple of people text me, like,
[36:12] Speaker 2: what do you think, Like, I've been pretty impressed. He's
[36:15] Speaker 2: playing the best defense in the country. No one moves
[36:18] Speaker 2: the they don't give up ten points. No one moves
[36:21] Speaker 2: the ball on this team. His uh, the kid who
[36:23] Speaker 2: caught the game when he touchdown at Penn State, Omar Kelly.
[36:26] Speaker 2: He got the guy got hurt in like the first drive.
[36:29] Speaker 2: Indiana is not you know, USC and their heyday. He
[36:32] Speaker 2: only had they don't have unlimited weapons. So he starts.
[36:35] Speaker 2: You know, he's got the one guy that caught the touchdown,
[36:37] Speaker 2: Sarat who's a really good player, but like he had
[36:40] Speaker 2: to manufacture some stuff. He made a couple of plays
[36:43] Speaker 2: rolling out side, arming the ball, his arm strength. He's big.
[36:47] Speaker 2: I was. I was blown away. I have no clue
[36:50] Speaker 2: what his stats were. I don't care. I thought top
[36:52] Speaker 2: start to finish. You know, he gets destroyed on the
[36:56] Speaker 2: first play of the game. I mean absolutely hammered. Shakes
[36:59] Speaker 2: it off, and I thought obviously the game winning essentially
[37:03] Speaker 2: passed at the end of the game. But I thought
[37:06] Speaker 2: he was fantastic from a physical standpoint of just the
[37:09] Speaker 2: attributes that teams look for, poise, calmness, arm strength. How
[37:14] Speaker 2: do you do it? Like no one cares when you
[37:16] Speaker 2: throw five touchdowns against one of the Rutgers or Maryland.
[37:19] Speaker 2: That game means nothing to all the gms in the league. Honestly,
[37:24] Speaker 2: they might not even watch it. What is the point
[37:26] Speaker 2: I am watching this game? I thought he made himself
[37:29] Speaker 2: because again it's just I don't think this quarterback class
[37:32] Speaker 2: is clearly viewed super highly. And we'll see what Dante
[37:35] Speaker 2: Moore chooses to do, because he could still make himself
[37:37] Speaker 2: a lot of money and play really well. But I
[37:40] Speaker 2: would say Mendoza as we sit here right now, would
[37:42] Speaker 2: be it would be pretty stunning if he's not, you know,
[37:46] Speaker 2: the number one or two pick depending. I mean, Moore's
[37:48] Speaker 2: a little bit of a wild card wealf to see.
[37:49] Speaker 2: I mean, because they could win the national championship. He
[37:51] Speaker 2: could play great. His oc leaves maybe he knows that,
[37:55] Speaker 2: you know, the quarterback's leaving now. Granted, I think will
[37:58] Speaker 2: Stein's dad played at Kentucky, so it's not as crazy
[38:00] Speaker 2: of a move. But yeah, I'm with you there really
[38:04] Speaker 2: quick on the Notre Dame thing, because you look at
[38:08] Speaker 2: you know, even Indiana, people go, well, they didn't really
[38:10] Speaker 2: you know, beside the organ game, look at their schedule.
[38:12] Speaker 2: They're still playing. Like when you play conference games, you
[38:15] Speaker 2: build up over time a rapport and little rivalries and
[38:19] Speaker 2: knowledge of the other coade Like it's intense.
[38:22] Speaker 1: Just watch fifty.
[38:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, but like playing Illinois is much more like Notre Dame.
[38:28] Speaker 2: Here's where I feel no sorrow and no empathy for
[38:31] Speaker 2: their situation. They play in a situation where if they
[38:34] Speaker 2: make the playoffs, they get to keep all the money.
[38:36] Speaker 2: They don't have split it with any conference partners. They
[38:38] Speaker 2: mix and match their schedule every year, Like I'm sorry, guys,
[38:41] Speaker 2: it's time to change, Like, let's just join one of
[38:43] Speaker 2: these conferences and get with the program. You no longer
[38:46] Speaker 2: get to just be your own little NZ out there
[38:48] Speaker 2: making all this money with NBC, mixing and matching a schedule.
[38:52] Speaker 2: Because even that Indiana, Ohio, State, Alabama, you name it,
[38:55] Speaker 2: their schedule changes year to year. It doesn't change that much.
[38:59] Speaker 2: Maybe they missed one of the top but it's still
[39:01] Speaker 2: going on the road, because this is what I think
[39:03] Speaker 2: Kaylin de Boor would say. We had just a random
[39:05] Speaker 2: road game, even against a down Tennessee. That's a lot
[39:08] Speaker 2: harder than some of this crap that Notre Dame hass
[39:10] Speaker 2: to do on the road.
[39:11] Speaker 1: Notre Dame again, Notre Dame played one great defensive line Miami,
[39:17] Speaker 1: and Miami Notre Dame's run game completely dried up right back.
[39:22] Speaker 2: Olroy talked about it last night. He's like, I rewatched
[39:24] Speaker 2: the game this morning and I was like, God, they
[39:26] Speaker 2: got dominated in the trenches in that game. Yeah.
[39:29] Speaker 1: No, Miami's got better line play by far, So it doesn't.
[39:33] Speaker 1: And that's my takeaway if you really examine Notre dame schedule,
[39:36] Speaker 1: this is why Notre Dame desperately wants to play USC.
[39:41] Speaker 1: They that's why they signed a five year deal with Clemson.
[39:44] Speaker 1: Notre Dame signed a five year deal with Clemson. That's
[39:47] Speaker 1: what because they they'll get it. They're gonna get these
[39:49] Speaker 1: years where they play the weakest of the ACC. It's
[39:51] Speaker 1: why they're outraged when anybody brings up the us USC game.
[39:56] Speaker 1: USC doesn't need Notre Dame. You've seen have you seen
[39:58] Speaker 1: USC scheduled next year in the Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan.
[40:03] Speaker 1: They play everybody. They don't know where they play. But
[40:05] Speaker 1: it's like the last thing you need to another Notre
[40:07] Speaker 1: Dame game. So I've always liked Notre Dame. I respect
[40:12] Speaker 1: it that their kids are real student athletes. But if
[40:16] Speaker 1: you're going to play this game and toggle between conference
[40:19] Speaker 1: and independent, go examine Notre Dame schedule. How bad the
[40:26] Speaker 1: defenses they played? I think it's seven teams they played
[40:29] Speaker 1: had defenses under one hundredth there's only one hundred and
[40:32] Speaker 1: what thirty eight college football teams. Seven of the teams
[40:36] Speaker 1: they played were under one hundred defensively, so they looked
[40:38] Speaker 1: like a powerhouse.
[40:40] Speaker 2: Do you think I was thinking about this last night.
[40:42] Speaker 2: I understand that the you know, it's less than a
[40:45] Speaker 2: five point spread, right, I think Indiana was plus four
[40:48] Speaker 2: and a half when the game kicked off. I did
[40:50] Speaker 2: feel though the outcome that Indiana actually won that game,
[40:55] Speaker 2: And I don't feel on being super hyperbolic. Here is
[40:58] Speaker 2: one of the crazier outcomes college sports I've ever seen. Obviously,
[41:01] Speaker 2: Indiana's really good. They have a quarterback. They might go
[41:04] Speaker 2: want their coach Saban like it's not like as crazy
[41:07] Speaker 2: once you get add context to it, and all those
[41:11] Speaker 2: games they lost for decades kind of irrelevant to this
[41:14] Speaker 2: two years but still for them, and I get it,
[41:17] Speaker 2: they a big home field advantage. But Ohio State tried
[41:20] Speaker 2: like it wasn't like you know, they're kind of mailing
[41:22] Speaker 2: it in, Like Ohio State really tried. They hadnt won
[41:24] Speaker 2: the conference since Indiana. I got to forget that. I'm like,
[41:28] Speaker 2: I don't. Ohio State really hasn't won this game in
[41:30] Speaker 2: a while.

[43:15] Speaker 1: sold near you. Indiana's defensive line pushed the Buckeyes O
[43:25] Speaker 1: line around. Julian sand was running. I mean, it was
[43:28] Speaker 1: a pop evaporate no Indiana. That's my takeaway. Mendoz's unbelievable
[43:36] Speaker 1: talent at quarterback. Signette is a great coach, but Indiana's
[43:40] Speaker 1: d line is big, and if you watch the matchups,
[43:43] Speaker 1: they bullied Ohio State like they went. They bull rushed.
[43:46] Speaker 1: They weren't they weren't trying to be clever, speed rushed.
[43:49] Speaker 1: They bull rushed the buck eyes and pushed them back.
[43:54] Speaker 1: It was fun.
[43:54] Speaker 2: Yeah. To me, that was a type win that almost
[43:57] Speaker 2: gets you a contract for life, you know, I know,
[43:59] Speaker 2: when you become the number one seed and that like
[44:02] Speaker 2: if they get to the final four, and let's say
[44:04] Speaker 2: they lose in the final four, I think that Ohio
[44:07] Speaker 2: State win is unless they win the national championship, is win.
[44:13] Speaker 2: Just given that, think how long they've been in that conference,
[44:15] Speaker 2: playing that team. I think what they say last night,
[44:17] Speaker 2: I didn't write it down like sixty six straight times
[44:20] Speaker 2: or eighty one straight games, whatever the number one. It
[44:22] Speaker 2: was insane. Bet they never beat Ohio State because they
[44:25] Speaker 2: have probably at minimum of four touchdown underdog when they
[44:29] Speaker 2: play them, and then to beat them like that in
[44:31] Speaker 2: that moment that that was that was incredible theater. I
[44:35] Speaker 2: mean it was that. That's one of the coolest college
[44:38] Speaker 2: games I've watched along. I didn't even have a dog
[44:40] Speaker 2: in the fight. I was just kind of enjoying it.
[44:42] Speaker 1: Yeah, and the and the other thing to note is
[44:45] Speaker 1: that I think it was a tough spot for Ohio State.
[44:48] Speaker 1: It felt like the biggest game in the history of
[44:50] Speaker 1: Indiana football by a long shot. You just beat Michigan
[44:54] Speaker 1: because it was yeah, you're the national champions and it's
[44:59] Speaker 1: really about the playoff, and everybody in your locker room knows, Yeah,
[45:02] Speaker 1: we lost to Michigan last year. That went in a role.
[45:05] Speaker 1: So what's happening in college football for these big powerhouse
[45:08] Speaker 1: teams like Alabama didn't really want to have to play
[45:10] Speaker 1: Georgia again. Ohio State would have rather met Indiana in
[45:14] Speaker 1: two or three weeks for the first time now the
[45:16] Speaker 1: advantage goes to Ohio State. Like those players are like
[45:19] Speaker 1: if they play Indiana again, it's like, oh guys, we
[45:22] Speaker 1: faced these guys. I got to tell you my takeaway
[45:24] Speaker 1: on that game coming out of it was and I
[45:27] Speaker 1: kind of felt this going into it. But in any order,
[45:30] Speaker 1: you want Indiana, Georgia, Ohio State. I think those are
[45:35] Speaker 1: the three best teams. And I don't think it's that close.
[45:39] Speaker 1: I really don't.
[45:40] Speaker 2: I do think Oregon could throw their hat in. They've
[45:43] Speaker 2: looked really good coming down the stretch.
[45:44] Speaker 1: And that gets hard to judge. John. They've been so
[45:46] Speaker 1: beat up offensively. They don't have any of their receivers
[45:49] Speaker 1: for all the big games I watched them, they were
[45:51] Speaker 1: never healthy.
[45:52] Speaker 2: My question is I agree with you in the Ohio
[45:54] Speaker 2: State thing, But then why would Ryan Day kick the
[45:56] Speaker 2: field goal late in the game? Like what does easy defending? Im?
[46:00] Speaker 2: Just the Michigan What does he have to look like?
[46:02] Speaker 2: Who cares?
[46:03] Speaker 1: Like?
[46:03] Speaker 2: Just play to win? That was a weird moment for him.
[46:06] Speaker 2: I was like, what is going on?
[46:07] Speaker 1: I didn't like that call at all. I kind of
[46:10] Speaker 1: feel and I kind of feel like Indiana would have
[46:13] Speaker 1: stopped him anyway, just the way there the pass rush
[46:16] Speaker 1: was Yeah, that was one of those things where I
[46:20] Speaker 1: also think sometimes you do a play call because it
[46:25] Speaker 1: makes you feel big. It's like a confidence builder for
[46:28] Speaker 1: your team. You can you can go crazy on but
[46:31] Speaker 1: if you have their receivers and you have I mean,
[46:34] Speaker 1: Ohio State's got on average better players, you kind of
[46:37] Speaker 1: played into Indiana's hands kicking.
[46:39] Speaker 2: The field goal well, and Klatt said it is last
[46:44] Speaker 2: year with Will Howard. They had a physical running element
[46:48] Speaker 2: with their quarterback. So they had the running backs, they
[46:52] Speaker 2: had the quarterback who could move, and they had the
[46:54] Speaker 2: wide receivers. Like saying, ain't really breaking a tackle on
[46:58] Speaker 2: a fourth and one, right, So you are a little
[47:00] Speaker 2: little limited. You still have two guys that I don't
[47:03] Speaker 2: know where Tate's gonna go in the draft, of my
[47:05] Speaker 2: guess would be high. Jeremiah Smith would go higher if
[47:08] Speaker 2: he could come out. And I didn't know Bo Jackson
[47:10] Speaker 2: still played football because that kid looked fantastic.
[47:13] Speaker 1: He's great.
[47:13] Speaker 2: So it's like, I'm sorry, you're Ohio State. You have
[47:16] Speaker 2: the best you know, roster money can buy. The talent
[47:19] Speaker 2: is elite, even if your quarterbacks, like you're the defending champs.
[47:24] Speaker 2: The insecurity for Ryan Day. He even beat Michigan seven dight, like,
[47:27] Speaker 2: what do you got to lose?
[47:28] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[47:29] Speaker 2: And Signetti, I mean they One thing you'd say about
[47:32] Speaker 2: Signetti is his team immediately turned into just one of
[47:35] Speaker 2: the toughest teams in the country physically. That's what's the
[47:38] Speaker 2: eye opening part. They look kind of like Harbos's Michigan team,
[47:41] Speaker 2: don't they.
[47:42] Speaker 1: That's exactly what I thought. I remember when Harball went
[47:45] Speaker 1: to the PAC twelve and took over Stanford and it
[47:47] Speaker 1: was year two and everybody was like, oh, the most
[47:51] Speaker 1: physical team by far is Stanford, not USC and p
[47:54] Speaker 1: Carroll like Michigan's or Stanford's way more physical. People say
[48:00] Speaker 1: Signetti is a little cocky, but I think for Indiana
[48:03] Speaker 1: he has to be. He wants, you know, you're trying
[48:05] Speaker 1: to elevate your players to believe and the self belief.
[48:09] Speaker 1: I mean there was some trash talking, Like Indiana guys
[48:12] Speaker 1: are trash talking, and I'm okay with it. I think
[48:16] Speaker 1: that's there at the stage in their program where they
[48:18] Speaker 1: do need to stand up to Ohio State and have
[48:20] Speaker 1: a little chip on their shoulders. So and I think
[48:23] Speaker 1: in the NIL era it's easier for an older coach
[48:26] Speaker 1: to succeed, like I don't think Belichick. I think Belichick
[48:30] Speaker 1: would have been a disaster in college football ten years ago.
[48:32] Speaker 1: He may still be a disaster. But in the NIL
[48:35] Speaker 1: you can buy half your roster. So Signetti doesn't need
[48:38] Speaker 1: thirty nine year old or forty two year old you know,
[48:41] Speaker 1: or Lane Kiff and energy, you don't need it. You
[48:43] Speaker 1: can buy a lot of players. So we got ourselves
[48:47] Speaker 1: another big ten power in Indiana. Let's go back to
[48:50] Speaker 1: the NFL. Buffalo Josh Allen plays Superman in the fourth quarter,
[48:56] Speaker 1: beats the Bengals thirty nine thirty four. Burrow had a
[49:00] Speaker 1: really bad pick six. But listen Cincinnati, and this is
[49:05] Speaker 1: why I have questions about Buffalo. Joe Burrows twenty five
[49:09] Speaker 1: and thirty six, two hundred and thirty four yards great
[49:13] Speaker 1: on third down, six yards of play, basically had a
[49:16] Speaker 1: really bad pick six. But to go to Buffalo and
[49:20] Speaker 1: snow and drop thirty four, I don't know. I mean, listen.
[49:25] Speaker 1: Josh Allen's top two targets were tight ends. Gabe Davis
[49:29] Speaker 1: was his big receiving target, had two catches. They just
[49:33] Speaker 1: pulled Gabe Davis back to the team. They're very much
[49:36] Speaker 1: about Allen and their tight ends. I just I thought
[49:40] Speaker 1: to myself, did Josh Allen and Christian Bedford did they
[49:47] Speaker 1: Did they save Sean mcdermot's job. What if he loses
[49:49] Speaker 1: at home to the four and eight Cincinnati Bengals. What
[49:52] Speaker 1: would our discussion be tonight? What would it be tomorrow
[49:55] Speaker 1: in the country. Because I felt from a lot of
[49:58] Speaker 1: the game since Nay out schemed him and out played him. Now,
[50:02] Speaker 1: Buffalo did have a fumble at like the two yard line. Boy,
[50:06] Speaker 1: I am just a I just so. I had the
[50:09] Speaker 1: Bengals winning this game plus six. I money lined it.
[50:13] Speaker 1: I don't know what to make a Buffalo. I don't
[50:15] Speaker 1: trust him. They can't defend the run. Burrow moved up
[50:17] Speaker 1: and down the field and just had a terrible pick six.
[50:21] Speaker 2: It's pretty crazy how good he is coming off the
[50:23] Speaker 2: long layoff in the middle of the season. It's those
[50:26] Speaker 2: are the two best quarterbacks in the league right now.
[50:28] Speaker 2: I mean, I Burrow had the two plays that obviously
[50:31] Speaker 2: cost him the game. It's twenty eight to twenty five,
[50:34] Speaker 2: since he and since he is driving, and I thought,
[50:37] Speaker 2: is this how this is gonna end for Buffalo? Now,
[50:40] Speaker 2: granted the Bengals have kind of owned the Bills, right,
[50:43] Speaker 2: but it's like, you know, this guy's missed the whole season.
[50:45] Speaker 2: They're four and eight, their defense stinks, You're gonna lose
[50:48] Speaker 2: this team. And it felt like it was twenty eight
[50:51] Speaker 2: twenty five, they're gonna score, and all of a sudden,
[50:53] Speaker 2: it's gonna be thirty five to twenty five and the
[50:55] Speaker 2: math is just not gonna math for the Bills. And
[50:57] Speaker 2: then he throws the pick six and then the next
[51:00] Speaker 2: he throws another pick and they score again, and it
[51:01] Speaker 2: flips like that. I mean it really flipped. Within literally
[51:04] Speaker 2: two plays. It was back to back passes for two
[51:07] Speaker 2: picks and one was seven points and the other immediately
[51:09] Speaker 2: led to seven. And Josh Allen, who is he gonna
[51:13] Speaker 2: win the MVP or not? I don't know, but he's
[51:15] Speaker 2: the best player in the league. Like I don't know
[51:16] Speaker 2: how you just because physically, what like what Burrow can
[51:19] Speaker 2: do is he's the most mobile pocket passer, you know.
[51:24] Speaker 2: I maybe since Rogers in his heyday, and Rogers probably
[51:27] Speaker 2: a better athlete than Joe. But like the Mannings, the Brady's,
[51:31] Speaker 2: the Montana, they didn't maybe Montana a little bit in
[51:33] Speaker 2: his younger days. His movement in the pocket. He's not
[51:37] Speaker 2: a runner. He is just a passer, it is. And
[51:40] Speaker 2: his dominance now, he grew up in Ohio. He is
[51:43] Speaker 2: so comfortable. How good he was early in that game,
[51:46] Speaker 2: You're like, jeez, how's he s so good in the snow? Yeah,
[51:49] Speaker 2: you know, he's just his timing is really he had drops.
[51:52] Speaker 2: They dropped a ball in the end, so they had
[51:53] Speaker 2: several drops. It could have been a better day. And
[51:56] Speaker 2: this is the thing I think where they would feel
[51:58] Speaker 2: pretty good. It's like, hey, listen, we pay two wide
[52:00] Speaker 2: receivers and some people would debate is that the right
[52:02] Speaker 2: way to invest. They did a pretty good job on
[52:04] Speaker 2: Chase today and Higgins look like, I don't know Calvin
[52:07] Speaker 2: Johnson out there, I mean he was, oh my god.
[52:11] Speaker 2: And right when he hits that, you're like, are the
[52:13] Speaker 2: Bengals gonna get right back in this game? I mean
[52:14] Speaker 2: they scored in like two plays. The Bills defense, Josh
[52:19] Speaker 2: Allen is clearly good enough to win a championship. Their
[52:22] Speaker 2: team is not. You cannot you have no chance in
[52:26] Speaker 2: the College football playoff or the NFL playoffs. Why do
[52:28] Speaker 2: the Packers have a chance not because their offense. Their
[52:31] Speaker 2: offense is fine, it's they have a championship defense Denver.
[52:33] Speaker 2: You have to have an elite defense to have a
[52:35] Speaker 2: chance to win in these big games in January. And
[52:39] Speaker 2: it's how do you trust the bill? They can't cover anybody.
[52:42] Speaker 2: Other pass rushes very hit or miss. They always get
[52:44] Speaker 2: a bunch of injuries. I mean, Josh is doing things
[52:47] Speaker 2: today that I mean some plays you look like Michael Vick's.
[52:50] Speaker 2: Other players will look like Cam Newton, other players that
[52:52] Speaker 2: look like Tom Brady. It's it's it's remarkable. And they
[52:56] Speaker 2: got bailed out by the two interceptions, which listen, the
[52:59] Speaker 2: Bears have kind of like that this year. But you
[53:02] Speaker 2: can't win a championship hoping for a turnover.
[53:04] Speaker 1: Well, when I watched when I watched New England go
[53:09] Speaker 1: into Buffalo and really control the game, and I still
[53:11] Speaker 1: think I'd argue the Patriots are in a little bit
[53:13] Speaker 1: of a rebuild. I still think they need one more draft,
[53:17] Speaker 1: and they need to get a little more explosive in
[53:19] Speaker 1: the run game. They need a number one receiver. They're
[53:21] Speaker 1: o lines. Okay. When I watched New England beat them,
[53:25] Speaker 1: I was just like this, I mean, God, Vrabel just
[53:29] Speaker 1: got the town, and I feel they've got a lot
[53:32] Speaker 1: of good Okay, Josh is great. I like James Cook
[53:37] Speaker 1: a lot, But I just think when I look at Buffalo,
[53:40] Speaker 1: I just think there's a lot of good players. And
[53:43] Speaker 1: then I watched Detroit, or I watch the Rams, or
[53:46] Speaker 1: I watched Green Bay, and I see great players. I
[53:50] Speaker 1: don't see a lot of great players with outside of
[53:53] Speaker 1: Josh Allen. I just I think Dion Dawkins is a
[53:55] Speaker 1: very good left tackle. James Cook I like a lot,
[53:59] Speaker 1: but I mean watched Drake may move the ball in him.
[54:01] Speaker 1: I Joe Burrow today and that one pick sixth right,
[54:04] Speaker 1: it was the line through about four yards. You're like,
[54:06] Speaker 1: oh god, Joe. But when they came back and I
[54:10] Speaker 1: mean literally they threw the ball to the tight end
[54:13] Speaker 1: that used to play at Miami, Mike, is it Gseki? Yeah,
[54:19] Speaker 1: I mean you made it one at cash and then
[54:20] Speaker 1: there's like all play later You're like, they're in the
[54:22] Speaker 1: end zone. I mean, that just can't. You're on the road,
[54:24] Speaker 1: it's snowing. That's not the way you can score. So
[54:27] Speaker 1: they're I just I think the one thing Buffalo has
[54:31] Speaker 1: going for him, Josh and James Cook can pick up
[54:35] Speaker 1: first downs and they're they're a tight end dominant team
[54:39] Speaker 1: if they play in crappy weather in New England, Buffalo,
[54:43] Speaker 1: wherever they play, they're kind of built for crappy weather
[54:46] Speaker 1: because they they're not a vertical team. I mean, they
[54:49] Speaker 1: just gave Davis had two catches. That was their big
[54:51] Speaker 1: receiving target. Where they're the opposite of the Miami Dolphins,
[54:56] Speaker 1: like when they had Waddle and Tyree. They're kind of
[54:59] Speaker 1: they're kind of built for crappy weather because I mean,
[55:04] Speaker 1: I generally you don't want a great quarterback to play
[55:08] Speaker 1: in the snow, but their defense is so mediocre you
[55:13] Speaker 1: don't want to play on a fast track if you're Buffalo.
[55:16] Speaker 2: I think it feels like now, I get they've had
[55:19] Speaker 2: some injuries over the years, but part of defense, especially
[55:22] Speaker 2: when you're good, you got to hit on some random
[55:24] Speaker 2: like third like you gotta find like a Landman, you know,
[55:26] Speaker 2: you gotta find like a random guy in the third
[55:29] Speaker 2: or fourth round that becomes an All Pro. And you
[55:31] Speaker 2: just watch their defensive talent, you're like, I don't really
[55:34] Speaker 2: see it, and then immediately you know Maxwell, the kid
[55:37] Speaker 2: they drafted from Kentucky, they're depending on him to be
[55:39] Speaker 2: like their best defensive back. They had a pretty bad week.
[55:42] Speaker 2: I mean, this is kind of inside baseball, but they
[55:45] Speaker 2: cut a guy that they liked to claim Darius Slay.
[55:48] Speaker 2: He quits, the kid they cut gets claimed by the Texans,
[55:52] Speaker 2: So all of a sudden, they're just out a guy.
[55:54] Speaker 2: And those are the type moves when you're the Bills.
[55:56] Speaker 2: It's one thing if you're just the Cardinals and you're
[55:59] Speaker 2: just doing different moves the Bills are, you can't. That's
[56:02] Speaker 2: a pretty devastating type transaction, especially when the guy that
[56:06] Speaker 2: you cut gets claimed by another probably playoff team in
[56:09] Speaker 2: the Texans. You're just like, this is this is not ideal,
[56:13] Speaker 2: especially on the defensive side of the ball. I'd also say,
[56:15] Speaker 2: if you're the Bills, the Steelers defense has been beyond
[56:20] Speaker 2: awful and they just cut Darius Lay. Why are you
[56:22] Speaker 2: even messing with that? Why would you even want to
[56:25] Speaker 2: acquire him? So I just think they defensively can't get
[56:28] Speaker 2: it figured out from a personnel standpoint, because offensively, Cook
[56:33] Speaker 2: is I'd say this year Gibbs is the best running back.
[56:37] Speaker 2: Cook's top two or three running back.
[56:38] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah.
[56:39] Speaker 2: And if you got Josh Allen, if King Kaiden Knocks
[56:41] Speaker 2: are on the field, like you can mix and match
[56:44] Speaker 2: with Shakir and you know Keon Coleman every once in
[56:47] Speaker 2: a while, and gave Davis if you got the two type.
[56:48] Speaker 2: The offense is fine because Josh will make enough plays,
[56:51] Speaker 2: but defensively, you just you're not gonna win in the
[56:54] Speaker 2: playoffs with Maybe if you get a match up and
[56:56] Speaker 2: Josh just go superhuman against bo Nix has a bad game,
[56:59] Speaker 2: you can pull it off, but if you're playing a
[57:00] Speaker 2: real quarterback, you just can't get stops, and that that's
[57:04] Speaker 2: kind of been their problem, you know, over the years.
[57:07] Speaker 2: But I feel like this defense personnel that we're watching
[57:09] Speaker 2: on the field is worse than it's been over the
[57:11] Speaker 2: last three or four years, isn't it.
[57:13] Speaker 1: Yep. Let's bounce around to four different games. Let's talk
[57:19] Speaker 1: Titans thirty one Cleveland Browns. I think it's twenty nine,
[57:22] Speaker 1: shitter twenty three or forty two, three touchdowns, ninety eight
[57:27] Speaker 1: passer rating. Cleveland special teams actually lost in the game.
[57:30] Speaker 1: Like most bad teams or special teams are awful, Cleveland
[57:34] Speaker 1: was missing six to seven starters and still had over
[57:36] Speaker 1: four hundred yards in bad weather six and a half
[57:39] Speaker 1: yards per play. I think shitter is very uneven. You know,
[57:43] Speaker 1: he'll throw a bad pick every week. So I watched
[57:46] Speaker 1: him and cam Ward. Cam's the much better athlete. But
[57:50] Speaker 1: I will tell you watching shaduor I said it last week,
[57:53] Speaker 1: I'll say it again. It reminds me of the Colorado Shadour.
[57:58] Speaker 1: He throws a bad pick. He's not super athletic. He
[58:02] Speaker 1: likes to throw the ball down the field. He's not overwhelmed. Again,
[58:06] Speaker 1: I don't think he has a special traite, but to
[58:11] Speaker 1: get four hundred yards that's a bad receiving corps. I mean,
[58:14] Speaker 1: it really is a bad receiving corps. Titans aren't any good.
[58:18] Speaker 1: But I think my take is on Schadeur. He's good
[58:21] Speaker 1: enough to start in the league.
[58:23] Speaker 2: Isn't he well for the Browns? I mean, to me,
[58:27] Speaker 2: he's better in Dylan Gabriel. So I do think it
[58:30] Speaker 2: puts into question, like you drafted Dylan Gabriel in the
[58:33] Speaker 2: third round because Shador the touchdown he threw to Judy. Now,
[58:36] Speaker 2: granted the Titans, he's wide open that drive throw, Like,
[58:39] Speaker 2: I don't even think Dylan Gabriel can make it, and
[58:42] Speaker 2: there is just some natural playmaker to him. I mean
[58:44] Speaker 2: the touchdown he threw to the tight end in the corner.
[58:47] Speaker 1: Yep.
[58:48] Speaker 2: Like he's just that's a Colorado type play, yep. And
[58:51] Speaker 2: he does just bring you some more explosive plays than
[58:54] Speaker 2: anything you've had. I do think it puts into question
[58:58] Speaker 2: of like, and they were not alone. No one was
[59:01] Speaker 2: drafted in Chador, So I don't blame like fifth round.
[59:03] Speaker 2: He was there for a reason because none of the
[59:05] Speaker 2: other teams wanted him, But like, you took another quarterback
[59:08] Speaker 2: who clearly isn't even close to his talented is this
[59:10] Speaker 2: guy and your organization is like the Browns are a
[59:14] Speaker 2: bad organization. Yeah, for a team that has some good players,
[59:17] Speaker 2: they sure lose a lot of games. And then a
[59:19] Speaker 2: story's coming out there bringing to Shaun Watson back. You know,
[59:23] Speaker 2: it's like, what are we doing? I think that chadoor is.
[59:27] Speaker 2: I mean, at this point in time, it's going to
[59:28] Speaker 2: be so loud that he's going to have to start
[59:30] Speaker 2: the rest of the season. He should, but it's like,
[59:33] Speaker 2: clearly Stefanski was never on board with this decision. I
[59:37] Speaker 2: don't have as much of a problem. He's gonna take
[59:39] Speaker 2: a lot of crap for that two point play. It
[59:41] Speaker 2: was open if he hands him the ball, but You
[59:44] Speaker 2: could also argue, why are you getting so tricky on
[59:46] Speaker 2: a two point play when your quarterback's kind of humming?
[59:50] Speaker 2: This has a t bow like quality to it, though
[59:52] Speaker 2: now he's a Chador is a much better passer room
[59:55] Speaker 2: team much not even I mean Tebau was not an
[59:58] Speaker 2: NFL passer. Chador clearly is. But there is a quality
[1:00:02] Speaker 2: of just the people talking about the situation that because
[1:00:05] Speaker 2: I'm thinking, I'm looking at the games like, well, I
[1:00:08] Speaker 2: kind of do have to pay attention to Titans Browns.
[1:00:10] Speaker 2: If it was Dalan Gabriel, I wouldn't have watched, That's right,
[1:00:13] Speaker 2: you know. And he does bring that and he makes
[1:00:16] Speaker 2: enough plays like this offense wasn't remember how bad they
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: were with Dylan Gabriel. They couldn't function.
[1:00:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, they didn't turn it over, but couldn't function. I
[1:00:24] Speaker 1: you know. My takeaway on him is if you look
[1:00:27] Speaker 1: mostly like you look in college, then I think it's
[1:00:30] Speaker 1: going to work. So I think he's a franchise quarterback.
[1:00:33] Speaker 1: I think all these guys, Bonnicks is more talented. Bonicks
[1:00:36] Speaker 1: a better athlete. Football seasons here, and if you want

[1:01:25] Speaker 1: app today. Denver. It's the most lobsided twenty four to
[1:01:32] Speaker 1: seventeen game I've ever watched. At one point, bo Nicks
[1:01:35] Speaker 1: was twenty five of thirty. It was like pitching cash.
[1:01:38] Speaker 1: They had a fourteen play drive and eighteen play drive.
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: Denver just wanted the game over and nobody hurt and
[1:01:44] Speaker 1: to get on the plane. They had these long like
[1:01:47] Speaker 1: death by a thousand cut drives. At one point in
[1:01:50] Speaker 1: the third quarter, Bonnicks the Denver had like two hundred
[1:01:53] Speaker 1: and sixty yards and the Raiders had seventy five. So
[1:01:57] Speaker 1: it wasn't really that close. I gotta tell you, there's
[1:02:02] Speaker 1: a lot of talk. Brady has gotten much better as
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: a broadcaster, much more comfortable. He can't be comfortable with
[1:02:09] Speaker 1: what's going on with the Raiders because again, this game
[1:02:11] Speaker 1: wasn't close. Denver's getting better. The Chargers will eventually get
[1:02:16] Speaker 1: their tackles back. They may beat Philadelphia tomorrow Kansas City's
[1:02:19] Speaker 1: Kansas City. You think the Raiders will blow it.
[1:02:22] Speaker 2: Up, Well, they're the worst team in the league right now.
[1:02:25] Speaker 2: I mean, at least the Titans showed to the life today.
[1:02:27] Speaker 2: I mean, they're no one's playing worse than the Raiders.
[1:02:30] Speaker 2: That the moment Mims took that back, I'm like, I
[1:02:32] Speaker 2: don't really need to pay attention to this game anymore.
[1:02:34] Speaker 2: They got no shot. I think the problem with Pete
[1:02:38] Speaker 2: Carroll is they hired this guy who had been making
[1:02:41] Speaker 2: fifteen million dollars and setting the tone and deciding everything
[1:02:46] Speaker 2: for twenty years, to then tell him what to do. Now,
[1:02:50] Speaker 2: you could argue, why do you even hire a seventy
[1:02:52] Speaker 2: five year old in the first place, But if you
[1:02:53] Speaker 2: are going to hire him, Brady clearly forced Chip Kelly
[1:02:57] Speaker 2: on him, and then Pete forced him to run Shane
[1:02:59] Speaker 2: wa Aldron's offense to Chip Kelly. It's like, this is
[1:03:02] Speaker 2: the type stuff the Browns do. You know, part of
[1:03:05] Speaker 2: getting Brady was to kind of stabilize everything. But listen,
[1:03:09] Speaker 2: Tom is the greatest player of all time and he's
[1:03:12] Speaker 2: a very successful guy, but he's never ran a franchise.
[1:03:16] Speaker 2: Bill did that. You know, Bill made a lot of
[1:03:18] Speaker 2: moves that Tom didn't like. It kind of worked a
[1:03:20] Speaker 2: lot of the times for a lot many of those
[1:03:22] Speaker 2: years getting rid of You think Tom would have got
[1:03:24] Speaker 2: rid of Welker. Of course not. You know. So it's
[1:03:26] Speaker 2: like being and hiring the coaches. It's a little more complicated.
[1:03:30] Speaker 2: I think there are a lot of gms throughout the
[1:03:32] Speaker 2: league they're like, yeah, Tom is a little harder than
[1:03:33] Speaker 2: you think. Huh, this isn't as easy because guess what
[1:03:37] Speaker 2: Pete and Chip they got. They have egos like their players.
[1:03:41] Speaker 2: These guys are used to making a lot of money,
[1:03:43] Speaker 2: put mixing and matching coaching staffs I'd argue is a
[1:03:47] Speaker 2: lot like building a locker room. You got to be
[1:03:49] Speaker 2: very careful about the way you do that. Personalities, Mesh
[1:03:53] Speaker 2: and the chip Kelly thing never made any sense if
[1:03:56] Speaker 2: Pete Carroll didn't want them, which clearly was the case.
[1:04:00] Speaker 2: Pete had no leverage and he was desperate for a job.
[1:04:03] Speaker 2: You could argue was desperate to fail the moment they
[1:04:06] Speaker 2: hired Pete Carroll if they weren't going to give him
[1:04:07] Speaker 2: the power to hire who he wanted as his coaches.
[1:04:10] Speaker 1: Well, and John Schneider, the GM of the Seahawks and Pete,
[1:04:13] Speaker 1: but it heads on Pete's son, so he you know,
[1:04:17] Speaker 1: Pete wanted him on the scouting staff Snyder. Snyder basically said,
[1:04:21] Speaker 1: he's I'm taking him off the scouting staff. Let's John
[1:04:24] Speaker 1: wanted him gone, Pete put him on the coaching staff. Well,
[1:04:28] Speaker 1: there's some stories that Chip Kelly and Pete's son did
[1:04:30] Speaker 1: not see eye to eye in terms of running the
[1:04:33] Speaker 1: ball or game planning, you know whatever. I think one
[1:04:38] Speaker 1: of the things I've said this about Bill Belichick and
[1:04:41] Speaker 1: that North Carolina Mike Lombardi staff, it's a friends and
[1:04:43] Speaker 1: family staff. I remember years ago AJ Smith wouldn't let
[1:04:46] Speaker 1: Marty Schottenheimer put his son on the staff. I just
[1:04:52] Speaker 1: think Pete's at a different He made a lot of money,
[1:04:54] Speaker 1: you know, he wants his son and the staff. Chip.
[1:04:57] Speaker 1: I haven't talked to Chip, but I think that I
[1:05:01] Speaker 1: know in Seattle that did not. There was real fissures
[1:05:04] Speaker 1: between John Snyder and Pete that I've had two sources
[1:05:08] Speaker 1: tell me. So it's a mess.
[1:05:11] Speaker 2: I also think the Raiders last year had the opportunity.
[1:05:15] Speaker 2: I think they thought for some reason they were kind
[1:05:17] Speaker 2: of close. Yeah, like they should have just hired some
[1:05:19] Speaker 2: they should have been all in on, like trying to
[1:05:21] Speaker 2: get Liam Kohen or whatever. Because remember Brady really wanted
[1:05:23] Speaker 2: Ben Johnson. But Ben's no dummy. He's like, listen to,
[1:05:26] Speaker 2: your team's not even close to was good enough. I'm
[1:05:28] Speaker 2: not taking my shot to come here. But why not
[1:05:31] Speaker 2: hire another young offensive guy. Because once you hire Pete,
[1:05:35] Speaker 2: Pete's trying to win every single game like it's the
[1:05:37] Speaker 2: last game he's ever going to coach. That's not really
[1:05:39] Speaker 2: the position the Raiders were in. And listen, they made
[1:05:43] Speaker 2: a mistake. And I'm a big John spytech guy, but
[1:05:46] Speaker 2: they should have traded Max Crosby this offseason because their
[1:05:48] Speaker 2: team wasn't gonna be any good. But Pete Carroll would
[1:05:51] Speaker 2: have put his body in front of that trade, right,
[1:05:54] Speaker 2: So you just not everyone's on the same page. And
[1:05:56] Speaker 2: I do think the other stories it is very difficult
[1:06:00] Speaker 2: when you're in Brady's position, who clearly has a lot
[1:06:02] Speaker 2: of juice. I think there was Diana Rassini's article. He's
[1:06:05] Speaker 2: been there like twice all season. So you're making these decisions.
[1:06:07] Speaker 2: You're not in the building, John Schneider, Howie Roseman. They're
[1:06:11] Speaker 2: spending twelve hours a day, every day, for three hundred
[1:06:13] Speaker 2: and twenty days a year inside the building with the players,
[1:06:16] Speaker 2: with the coaches, with the owner. It's really hard in
[1:06:20] Speaker 2: this type. You can do that in some companies, right,
[1:06:24] Speaker 2: Football is not one of those where you can just live,
[1:06:27] Speaker 2: you know, on the other side of the country and
[1:06:29] Speaker 2: just phone.
[1:06:29] Speaker 1: In, Yeah, I mean you. I was watching a clip
[1:06:32] Speaker 1: this week somebody was talking about Jerry West and everybody said, oh,
[1:06:36] Speaker 1: Jerry was a genius, and this person said, no, every
[1:06:38] Speaker 1: time you went anywhere, Jerry West was in the gym,
[1:06:42] Speaker 1: and Brad Stevens to the Celtics, go anywhere any college
[1:06:46] Speaker 1: basketball game, he's in the gym. You got to put
[1:06:49] Speaker 1: the time in. I mean, that's just the reality. Howie Roseman,
[1:06:53] Speaker 1: he's on a plane one hundred and fifty days a year.
[1:06:55] Speaker 1: I mean, that's the reality of these guys. John Snyder,
[1:06:58] Speaker 1: I know, John, We've seen Indiana play, you know. Yeah.
[1:07:03] Speaker 1: John Snyder's not a TV guy. He's a get to
[1:07:05] Speaker 1: a game guy. Reportedly like he wants to be at
[1:07:08] Speaker 1: a game. So, speaking of Seattle, they tagged Atlanta thirty
[1:07:13] Speaker 1: seven to nineteen. This is the sixth time Seattle has
[1:07:17] Speaker 1: beaten the team may not be the last this regular
[1:07:19] Speaker 1: season by fourteen points or more. If you look at
[1:07:22] Speaker 1: the history of Super Bowl winners, that's the number super
[1:07:25] Speaker 1: Bowl teams get to six ugly blowout wins they dominate.
[1:07:29] Speaker 1: A Rashid Saheed had his best game as a Seahawk,
[1:07:33] Speaker 1: who they got from the Saints. This is interesting. In
[1:07:36] Speaker 1: the last two years, Sam Donald's had two different head coaches,
[1:07:40] Speaker 1: two different coordinators, two different O lines. Now he's got
[1:07:43] Speaker 1: the second youngest offense. Do you know Sam Donald the
[1:07:46] Speaker 1: last two years has the most wins of any quarterback,
[1:07:50] Speaker 1: the third most touchdown passes, and the second most passing yards.
[1:07:55] Speaker 1: It is official, and he had a winning record in Carolina.
[1:07:58] Speaker 1: It is official. Eliminate the Jets from Sam Darnold's career.
[1:08:03] Speaker 1: I watched them again today, JSN two more touchdowns. I'm sorry,
[1:08:08] Speaker 1: but Donald's a franchise guy. He is, He's big, he's strong,
[1:08:13] Speaker 1: he loves the deep ball. He's got. This Seattle offense
[1:08:16] Speaker 1: is a bunch of kids. And I'm not saying this
[1:08:19] Speaker 1: because I've always liked him. Urray's USC We just have
[1:08:22] Speaker 1: to be honest. If you go two different teams, two
[1:08:24] Speaker 1: different staffs, two different coordinators, two different we didn't know
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: if JSM was a number one receiver. He's arguably the
[1:08:29] Speaker 1: best receiver in the league. Donald's legit. He'll have bad games,
[1:08:34] Speaker 1: but he's he's legit.
[1:08:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think he's going to be defined
[1:08:38] Speaker 2: by how he plays against the Rams here coming up
[1:08:41] Speaker 2: in a couple of weeks in the playoffs, right, because
[1:08:43] Speaker 2: there's no disputing his regular season prowess. And I think
[1:08:46] Speaker 2: this division. I just pulled up all three schedules. You know,
[1:08:50] Speaker 2: the Rams are technically in first place because they won
[1:08:52] Speaker 2: the game head to head. You know, the Rams now
[1:08:55] Speaker 2: are going to be playing the Lions, who are coming
[1:08:57] Speaker 2: off a long week because they played on Thursday's a
[1:09:00] Speaker 2: massive game. The Lion's still fighting for their playoff lives.
[1:09:04] Speaker 2: The I'm looking at Seattle. They're playing the Colts this week,
[1:09:07] Speaker 2: whose quarterback just tore his achilles and they got Riley
[1:09:09] Speaker 2: Leonard and Anthy Richardson. They got problems. They are cults
[1:09:12] Speaker 2: are headed the wrong way for that cooked Niners coming
[1:09:16] Speaker 2: off a bye, they get the Titans. So this division,
[1:09:19] Speaker 2: you know, the Niners, it doesn't feel like should be
[1:09:21] Speaker 2: right there with these teams. But they've already beat the Rams,
[1:09:24] Speaker 2: They've already beat Seattle. They play Seattle at the end
[1:09:26] Speaker 2: of the season in San Francisco. Now the Niners in
[1:09:29] Speaker 2: a couple weeks have the Bears. That's a massive game.
[1:09:32] Speaker 2: But that same week the Rams in Seattle play. I'm
[1:09:34] Speaker 2: pretty sure that's a Thursday night game. So you know,
[1:09:38] Speaker 2: you get Seattle. Will assume they beat the Colts. You
[1:09:41] Speaker 2: I'll give the Rams a benefit doubt. Let's say they
[1:09:43] Speaker 2: beat the Lions. That's that game could determine the division
[1:09:46] Speaker 2: right there in Seattle. I think to me, that game
[1:09:49] Speaker 2: all the pressure would be on on Sam because clearly
[1:09:52] Speaker 2: that first game, you know, throw all those picks. You know,
[1:09:54] Speaker 2: I think people kind of just combine that with a
[1:09:57] Speaker 2: couple of games the end of last year. But you
[1:09:59] Speaker 2: just watch them in these rand games. I just think
[1:10:00] Speaker 2: their team. You know, if I had to say who
[1:10:03] Speaker 2: has the best, you I think the Niners offense pretty
[1:10:05] Speaker 2: good and the Rams offense is really good. Right Seattle's
[1:10:08] Speaker 2: defense to me, the Rams dbs, you just it's hard
[1:10:11] Speaker 2: to trust, you know, when you get in certain moments.
[1:10:13] Speaker 2: Seattle's defense top to bottom. They might have the best
[1:10:16] Speaker 2: defensive backfield right there with Denver in the league.
[1:10:18] Speaker 1: Well, you ever, you watch these teams every couple of years,
[1:10:21] Speaker 1: you'll get a team and they just look more athletic
[1:10:24] Speaker 1: than other teams. Seattle, if you turn the sound down
[1:10:28] Speaker 1: and just watch Seattle, they're fast, like their ends rush,
[1:10:33] Speaker 1: they're tight, ends run well, their backs run well. Seattle
[1:10:36] Speaker 1: is super athletic. And Darnald is a playmaker, so he's athletic.
[1:10:41] Speaker 2: How would you because to me, I just think the Niners.
[1:10:44] Speaker 2: You miss Fred Warner, it's you know, it's gonna be hard.
[1:10:48] Speaker 2: Caleb scrambling around, you know, the playoff game. I just
[1:10:51] Speaker 2: think that's gonna come up in a big moment. Defensively,
[1:10:55] Speaker 2: I would I might still have Seattle one. The only
[1:10:58] Speaker 2: reason he kind of hesitates, like I do trust Stafford
[1:11:00] Speaker 2: a little bit more, you know, but it's like Eli
[1:11:04] Speaker 2: couldn't do it till he did it. You know, some
[1:11:06] Speaker 2: of these guys, like I do think Dak Prescott is
[1:11:08] Speaker 2: good enough to win a super Bowl, but you'd be like, well,
[1:11:10] Speaker 2: he's been awful in the playoffs.
[1:11:11] Speaker 1: True.
[1:11:12] Speaker 2: You know, some guys like James are clearly melts down,
[1:11:15] Speaker 2: like he has a long history, like maybe that is deck.
[1:11:18] Speaker 2: Maybe he'll just always melt down in these playoff games.
[1:11:20] Speaker 2: But I also see him in big normal games look good. Yeah,
[1:11:23] Speaker 2: I see Sam Darnold. You know, I think in two
[1:11:25] Speaker 2: weeks that Rams game, I don't want to say career definer,
[1:11:28] Speaker 2: and he's twenty eight years old, but it's there's gonna
[1:11:31] Speaker 2: be a big spotlight. That's what a great Thursday night game.
[1:11:35] Speaker 2: That's that's in Seattle too. That's gonna could be raining,
[1:11:38] Speaker 2: that could get ugly. It actually could benefit Seattle. Just
[1:11:40] Speaker 2: run the ball, slow it down a little bit.
[1:11:42] Speaker 1: Play d Rams forty five Arizona seventeen. Rams had over
[1:11:47] Speaker 1: five hundred yards offense and almost nine yards of play
[1:11:50] Speaker 1: not competitive. Kuka Nakua was absolutely fantastic, so was Stafford
[1:11:55] Speaker 1: the editor. Thing about the Rams is they're healthy, They're
[1:11:59] Speaker 1: just dissecting teams. Arizona is a lost franchise. I mean,
[1:12:04] Speaker 1: you live in the state. I'm not sure bid well
[1:12:07] Speaker 1: on down, it doesn't matter. It's a Do you have
[1:12:10] Speaker 1: any takeaway on that at all?
[1:12:12] Speaker 2: Uh No? I mean the Cardinals, God, they are see
[1:12:16] Speaker 2: that some of these jobs, you like the Titans, like
[1:12:19] Speaker 2: people are gonna people want to go be the head
[1:12:21] Speaker 2: coach of the Titans. Like the Cardinals, they fire everybody.
[1:12:24] Speaker 2: I get it's the NFL, and it pays a lot
[1:12:25] Speaker 2: of money. These jobs are terrible. I mean they are awful.
[1:12:29] Speaker 2: And it just gets back to ownership and you look.
[1:12:32] Speaker 2: You look at this division now, I mean, is there
[1:12:34] Speaker 2: a better coach division with McVeigh McDonald and Kyle Shanahan.
[1:12:37] Speaker 2: I mean it's like it's not even close. It feels
[1:12:40] Speaker 2: like it'd probably be Sean Payton, Andy Reid and Jim Harbaugh.
[1:12:43] Speaker 2: And that's where if you're the Raiders, like, what do
[1:12:45] Speaker 2: we do? How do we get up to those milling guys?
[1:12:47] Speaker 2: I think the answer is you don't.
[1:12:49] Speaker 1: I think about this all the time. I was surprised
[1:12:51] Speaker 1: when Sean Payton took the job with Denver because I'm like,
[1:12:54] Speaker 1: oh my god, they're a mess. There's the Russell Wilson cap.
[1:12:57] Speaker 1: What the hell is he gonna do? And you know,
[1:13:00] Speaker 1: Sean knew there was good there was some good college
[1:13:02] Speaker 1: quarterbacks coming up, and Sean has a lot of confidence
[1:13:05] Speaker 1: in himself. But and also you know, Andy Reid was
[1:13:09] Speaker 1: getting older and Mahomes was getting expensive. And but that
[1:13:14] Speaker 1: division now, I mean Mike McDonald and Sean McVay. Mike
[1:13:17] Speaker 1: McDonald reminds me of the defense of Sean McVay. And
[1:13:20] Speaker 1: then Shannon's probably the best scheme coach in the league.
[1:13:23] Speaker 1: So like Arizona's just I mean, that feels like you
[1:13:26] Speaker 1: can say what you want about Cleveland, but Pittsburgh's wobbly.
[1:13:30] Speaker 1: What's up with Lamar? Cincinnati's cheap. You know, you can
[1:13:35] Speaker 1: bang on Cleveland, but if Cleveland landed Mendoza or something
[1:13:39] Speaker 1: at quarterback, you'd be like, I think when the division easily,
[1:13:42] Speaker 1: Arizona's trapped.
[1:13:44] Speaker 2: But Denver's a great example, right once Walmart took over
[1:13:48] Speaker 2: that franchise, don't they have like four kids that are
[1:13:50] Speaker 2: in the top twenty of wealth in the world. I
[1:13:52] Speaker 2: mean the money that they're dealing with is on a
[1:13:57] Speaker 2: different level than what ninety five percent of NFL owners, Like,
[1:14:00] Speaker 2: what does the Walmart family have in common with Bob
[1:14:03] Speaker 2: Kraft in terms of money? I mean, it's the levels
[1:14:05] Speaker 2: we're talking. They are on a very very short list
[1:14:08] Speaker 2: as a family. I'm not even talking as an individual.
[1:14:11] Speaker 2: So I mean, the bidwells are so cheap they're Listen,
[1:14:15] Speaker 2: Jonathan Annon. I don't know if he's good or bad,
[1:14:18] Speaker 2: and it's hard to even tell, but you hit your
[1:14:20] Speaker 2: wagon to Kyler Murray and this gets back to you know,
[1:14:24] Speaker 2: he was the number one pick, but it was still
[1:14:26] Speaker 2: a little bit of a risk for Ben Johnson to
[1:14:28] Speaker 2: take that job. But it's pretty clear Ben Johnson probably
[1:14:30] Speaker 2: be good no matter if Ben Johnson been the Raiders coach.
[1:14:33] Speaker 2: Might not be a playoff team. But I guarantee you
[1:14:34] Speaker 2: they're not two and whatever they are, right, he's the
[1:14:37] Speaker 2: real deal. But vrabelnew like, I'm going back, you better
[1:14:40] Speaker 2: have a quarterback because in this you could put Mike
[1:14:43] Speaker 2: Rabel with Theirs on a Cardinals. He's probably not making
[1:14:45] Speaker 2: the playoffs very often, so in this isn't college where
[1:14:48] Speaker 2: it's like, oh, I just lose my quarterback to the draft,
[1:14:51] Speaker 2: We'll just go buy Fernando Mendoza. Right, That's not the
[1:14:54] Speaker 2: way it works. And now you hit your wagon to
[1:14:56] Speaker 2: Kyler Murray and you're in the situation you're in where
[1:14:59] Speaker 2: you got Jacobe set running around there down thirty points.
[1:15:02] Speaker 2: It's like, what are we even doing? And like the
[1:15:05] Speaker 2: Rams game, there's no takeaway. I do think though they
[1:15:11] Speaker 2: you know, last week they lose the Panthers, who sometimes
[1:15:15] Speaker 2: you do that, you know, the West coast East coast flight.
[1:15:18] Speaker 2: But the one thing the Panthers can do they can
[1:15:20] Speaker 2: throw the ball pretty well. I mean they got a
[1:15:21] Speaker 2: couple of wide receivers and they kind of expose their dB.
[1:15:23] Speaker 2: So I do think this was a little bit of
[1:15:25] Speaker 2: a rallying spot of like, hey man, we got a plus.
[1:15:28] Speaker 2: You don't have any margin. If you're the Rams, Seattle
[1:15:30] Speaker 2: or the Four Tricks, you probably got to win thirteen
[1:15:35] Speaker 2: and four probably wins you the division. So you know,
[1:15:37] Speaker 2: a miss field goal here, a screw up here, all
[1:15:40] Speaker 2: of a sudden, you're the sixth seed playing I don't know,
[1:15:43] Speaker 2: Green Bay or Axie. It can get a lot more difficult,
[1:15:47] Speaker 2: really quick.
[1:15:48] Speaker 1: Let's wrap it up with this Minnesota thirty one, Washington nothing.
[1:15:51] Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy played well. Washington probably has, they've lost eight straight,
[1:15:56] Speaker 1: probably has the worst defense in the league. It may
[1:15:58] Speaker 1: not be particularly close. Almost every Washington defender on PFF
[1:16:03] Speaker 1: is like near the bottom of their position in the sport.
[1:16:06] Speaker 1: I thought I was JJ McCarthy's best game, sixteen to
[1:16:09] Speaker 1: twenty three, three tds, no picks that were very, very
[1:16:12] Speaker 1: good in the red zone. It was a smart game plan.
[1:16:16] Speaker 1: Then one of the things that really jumps out to
[1:16:18] Speaker 1: me now is Washington had three turnovers and they're just
[1:16:22] Speaker 1: a horrible franchise. A year after they shock the world,
[1:16:25] Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels got banged up again, and I'm sitting there
[1:16:29] Speaker 1: watching him when he's cringing on the field, and I'm like, man,
[1:16:34] Speaker 1: but if you go back to his rookie year. Remember
[1:16:36] Speaker 1: he got banged up in his rookie year. And I'm
[1:16:40] Speaker 1: sitting there thinking, if you told me in one year
[1:16:47] Speaker 1: he'd missed another eight nine games, I'd be like, I
[1:16:50] Speaker 1: wouldn't be shocked. There is value in like bo Nicks
[1:16:54] Speaker 1: doesn't get hurt, Caleb doesn't get hurt. Drake May got
[1:16:58] Speaker 1: beat up his first year. He blew tened it. It
[1:17:01] Speaker 1: doesn't miss games like I The Jade and Daniel thing
[1:17:04] Speaker 1: is fascinating because it was the best rookie season statistically
[1:17:07] Speaker 1: in the history of the sport, and a year later physically,
[1:17:12] Speaker 1: I have real issues.
[1:17:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think it's the knock on him.
[1:17:17] Speaker 2: Going back to LSU was the reckless nature in which
[1:17:20] Speaker 2: he played. And you look at Caleb and you look
[1:17:22] Speaker 2: at bo Nicks, well, they're kind of built physically a
[1:17:25] Speaker 2: little bit different than him. I mean, Caleb's built like
[1:17:27] Speaker 2: a tank. Drake May's big. You look at Jayden Daniels,
[1:17:31] Speaker 2: you know, he looks pretty slender. I tried to look
[1:17:34] Speaker 2: his way. I don't think he waded into the combine,
[1:17:36] Speaker 2: but he's just not He's not exactly built like you know,
[1:17:39] Speaker 2: Lamar's thickened up as he's gotten older. It is really important.
[1:17:43] Speaker 2: I also think Washington, you know, you get there, you
[1:17:46] Speaker 2: have success out of nowhere, and they went all in
[1:17:49] Speaker 2: on this season and it is backfired. I mean, if
[1:17:52] Speaker 2: you're if you're a draft nerd, the two crazy things.
[1:17:56] Speaker 2: Every time I look up and Atlanta's down thirty, I
[1:17:58] Speaker 2: go the Rams have their first round pick, and for
[1:18:01] Speaker 2: the Texans traded Laramie Tunzel to Washington. They did it
[1:18:05] Speaker 2: for a third last draft and a second in this
[1:18:07] Speaker 2: upcoming draft. Well that pick for Washington could be like
[1:18:09] Speaker 2: pick thirty five. So the Texans all of a sudden,
[1:18:12] Speaker 2: can you know they haven't had picks because of the
[1:18:14] Speaker 2: Will Anderson trade. All of a sudden, you get this
[1:18:16] Speaker 2: great Washington pick. I mean, you look at the Rams
[1:18:18] Speaker 2: and the Texans. That's that's a big time ammo for
[1:18:20] Speaker 2: those two teams. And you know they're old, they're quarterbacks,
[1:18:25] Speaker 2: banged up a lot, they have some explosive playmaker. Zach
[1:18:28] Speaker 2: Hurtz shattered his leg today. You know their defense.
[1:18:31] Speaker 1: Is just atrocious though.
[1:18:32] Speaker 2: I mean it's it's really bad. And this you know,
[1:18:35] Speaker 2: one story I saw today is Sirianni's getting more involved
[1:18:39] Speaker 2: with the offense. Well, it's like Dan Campbell, Okay, my
[1:18:42] Speaker 2: offensive coordinator is bad. I need to get more involved
[1:18:44] Speaker 2: than what happens. They look more explosive, So I go listen.
[1:18:46] Speaker 2: I give Dan credit. That's he's an offensive guy. Siriana,
[1:18:50] Speaker 2: you're an offensive guy. Monday night, your offense should look better.
[1:18:53] Speaker 2: Dan Quinn's a defensive guy. I just watched him for years.
[1:18:56] Speaker 2: Helped turn Jerry's team into a twelve win team. Remember
[1:18:59] Speaker 2: how good they were on defense with Micah Parsons and
[1:19:01] Speaker 2: Dan Quinn. How. I get your personnel's bad, but you
[1:19:05] Speaker 2: should be a little bit. You made j J. McCarthy,
[1:19:07] Speaker 2: who statistically was the worst quarterback since JaMarcus Russell, actually
[1:19:11] Speaker 2: looked pretty good today. I mean it's hard to argue, right,
[1:19:13] Speaker 2: he looked. He looked better and like a lot of
[1:19:16] Speaker 2: these other young quarterbacks throughout the league. So I think
[1:19:19] Speaker 2: if you're Washington, you're going God. Maybe that last year
[1:19:23] Speaker 2: was It almost feels a little bit like the Giants
[1:19:25] Speaker 2: that year when they made the playoffs and they beat Minnesota,
[1:19:28] Speaker 2: and then the next three years were just a train wreck.
[1:19:31] Speaker 2: Could be different because of Jaden Daniels. But if you
[1:19:33] Speaker 2: can't stay on the field, who cares? Yeah?
[1:19:35] Speaker 1: No, I mean if you start looking at the teams
[1:19:37] Speaker 1: that consistently make the playoffs, like we thought, Houston, Oh
[1:19:41] Speaker 1: what happened to Houston? Well, Houston's a good football team now,
[1:19:44] Speaker 1: like to meet go Ryan's defense and the guys upstairs drafting,
[1:19:48] Speaker 1: you know, we always kind of look at Houston like,
[1:19:50] Speaker 1: I don't know, like Jacksonville. We'll say what you want,
[1:19:53] Speaker 1: but I watched Jacksonville today. Like, Jacksonville's got a lot
[1:19:56] Speaker 1: of good players. They've hit on a lot of those
[1:19:58] Speaker 1: draft picks. Travis Hunter is not even a fact there.
[1:20:00] Speaker 1: They got two backs, they got two ends. So there
[1:20:05] Speaker 1: are these outlier seasons, John, where a team just gets
[1:20:08] Speaker 1: hot the division's week, you know, and I you know
[1:20:12] Speaker 1: that gets hurt. The Cowboys are bad, the Giants are worse.
[1:20:15] Speaker 1: They didn't have Jackson Dard. It's I don't know. I
[1:20:18] Speaker 1: look at Washington and I'm like, they need nine more players.
[1:20:22] Speaker 1: They need so many more players there, and this, Hey,
[1:20:25] Speaker 1: good for JJ. He needed a game like this again.
[1:20:28] Speaker 1: They ran, they passed, They just you can just watch football.
[1:20:32] Speaker 1: You watch Seattle's defense, You're like, damn, they're fast. You
[1:20:35] Speaker 1: like Washington. They can't bully, they can't run, they can't cover,
[1:20:40] Speaker 1: They're awful. It's just a they got very few good players.
[1:20:44] Speaker 1: All right, let's do our Monday night football Hard Rock
[1:20:48] Speaker 1: bet pick it's the Eagles. They'll probably have home field
[1:20:52] Speaker 1: advantage at sofar sixty forty minus two against the Chargers
[1:20:58] Speaker 1: team that is winning despite having the lowest rated offensive
[1:21:02] Speaker 1: line there are teams you can get away with that.
[1:21:06] Speaker 1: I think if you have the Chargers online, Denver and
[1:21:09] Speaker 1: Philadelphia are teams that you could really struggle. I just
[1:21:13] Speaker 1: see the Chargers struggling to sustain drives two really special defenses.
[1:21:22] Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Philadelphia to win twenty four to twenty.
[1:21:28] Speaker 1: It's a really big game for both, but I'll take
[1:21:31] Speaker 1: the healthier roster.
[1:21:33] Speaker 2: A lot of institutional knowledge. You know, Harba's two coordinators
[1:21:36] Speaker 2: in San Francisco, Fangio, Greg Roman Jalen Carter. Though earlier
[1:21:41] Speaker 2: this week those shoulder surgeries, you know he's out. If
[1:21:45] Speaker 2: you told me he was in this game, I'd be
[1:21:47] Speaker 2: like audios for Justin Herbert. Obviously Justin Herbert coming off
[1:21:51] Speaker 2: the injury. I'm taking Harbaugh though, as a home dog.
[1:21:54] Speaker 2: I mean, this is a classic spot where Jim Harbaugh
[1:21:56] Speaker 2: has just won his whole career when you kind of
[1:21:58] Speaker 2: count him out. I think Hampton the running back supposed
[1:22:00] Speaker 2: to be back. If if Herbert can be like Aaron
[1:22:04] Speaker 2: Rodgers there with a cast and sling that thing around,
[1:22:06] Speaker 2: I think this Eagles thing gets gets uglier before it
[1:22:09] Speaker 2: gets better.
[1:22:10] Speaker 1: Great nice job, John
[1:22:13] Speaker 2: The volume
