Colin is joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” to break down the NFL week 7 Sunday slate. They start with a wild finish in Denver where the Broncos beat the Giants on a walkoff field goal after trailing by 18 in the fourth quarter. Colin argues that Sean Payton should let Bo Nix use his legs more, but that Giants fans should still feel pretty good about the direction of their team under Jaxson Dart (3:00). They move to the Packers win over the Cardinals and highlight Micah Parson’s role as a “closer” for Green Bay, with 3 game changing sacks but point to issues with the Packers offense. They argue the Cardinals are a better team than their 2-5 record (13:15). They pivot to the Bears win over the Saints and Colin believes the Bears should lean more on the run game and a defense that’s playing much better rather than putting it all on Caleb Williams and despite their choppiness, they’re a well coached team under Ben Johnson (25:45). The move to the Chiefs beatdown of the Raiders and Colin declares the Chiefs once again… look like the best team in the league. They highlight the additions of Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy into the offense as opening things up and now they’re firing on all cylinders (34:00). They recap the Cowboys clobbering the Commanders and Colin argues the Cowboys may have the best offense in the league and George Pickens was the steal of the offseason. John believes Brian Schottenheimer should be the frontrunner for coach of the year (46:00). They move to the Eagles win over the Vikings and highlight a great performance from Jalen Hurts in the passing game and the struggles of the Vikings to get quality quarterback play (53:00). They pivot to the Rams beatdown of the Jags in London and Colin’s takeaway is Sean McVay is the 2nd best coach in the league after Andy Reid. They point to the incredible quarterback play by Matt Stafford despite missing Puka Nukua and his growing connection with Davante Adams (59:15). They wrap up the NFL with the Dolphins benching Tua Tagoviola in a loss to the Browns and Colin argues the Dolphins should blow it all up… coach, quarterback and roster (1:11:00). They move to college football and point to Notre Dame being one of the best teams despite their two losses, and John argues that Carson Beck will hold Miami back from winning a natty (1:15:00). Finally, they recap Shohei Ohtani’s historically great performance in the Dodgers close out win over the Brewers and Colin declares him the “greatest athlete ever” (1:23:00). [0:01] Speaker 1: The volume. All right. I'm a football fan for a
[0:04] Speaker 1: long time, since the seventies. I don't watch football without
[0:07] Speaker 1: something to eat and drink. Trust me, it's a whole
[0:09] Speaker 1: different ballgame when you're eating. Right now, I got two
[0:13] Speaker 1: things today from Uber eats. Right now. When you buy
[0:16] Speaker 1: one large extra most BESTUS Pepperoni pizza from Little Caesars
[0:20] Speaker 1: like this one, you get another one free. By the way,
[0:24] Speaker 1: one of these has already been eaten like me and
[0:27] Speaker 1: my wife fifteen minutes ago. Yes, that's right, an extra
[0:33] Speaker 1: extra most bestest pizza thrown in there, extra cheese, extra pepperoni,
[0:37] Speaker 1: all for the price of just one. And since Uber
[0:39] Speaker 1: Eats is the official on demand food delivery partner of
[0:41] Speaker 1: the NFL, you know all the gamed ideals keep coming
[0:44] Speaker 1: all season long. Wings and tacos and subs and pizzas,
[0:47] Speaker 1: chips and dips, whatever whatever it is. Uber Eats delivers
[0:50] Speaker 1: right to your door. So when your team puts up
[0:51] Speaker 1: the extra point, reward yourself with an extra pizza order
[0:54] Speaker 1: Little Caesars on Uber Eats. Today we did the terms
[0:57] Speaker 1: apply see the app for details. Pizza, pizza, extra extra.
[1:00] Speaker 1: Something's going on here. That was a wild late window
[1:11] Speaker 1: on a day and made chili. It was raining and cool.
[1:15] Speaker 1: It felt like the fall. What a wild late window.
[1:20] Speaker 1: The Denver Broncos final five possessions with bow Knicks touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown,
[1:27] Speaker 1: walk off field goal. So bow Knicks not only did
[1:30] Speaker 1: the New York Giants lead nineteen to nothing, they were
[1:34] Speaker 1: totally dominating the game. Denver roars back for a thirty
[1:38] Speaker 1: three thirty two win over the New York Giants. I
[1:40] Speaker 1: gotta tell you, if I'm a Giants fan, I feel
[1:44] Speaker 1: strangely great. Jackson Dart on the what we perceived as
[1:48] Speaker 1: the game winning drive, plays with total confidence. I didn't
[1:52] Speaker 1: like the pass interference call, considering the consequences, I didn't
[1:55] Speaker 1: love that call. You know, pass interference is such a nebulous,
[2:00] Speaker 1: hard call to begin with. But I gotta be honest
[2:04] Speaker 1: about bow Knicks. I said this last week, and I
[2:07] Speaker 1: said it the week before. John first two years in
[2:09] Speaker 1: the league as a quarterback. If you can run, run,
[2:12] Speaker 1: it'll buy you first downs. These defenses are sophisticated. This
[2:15] Speaker 1: is not the Big Ten, the SEC or the you know,
[2:18] Speaker 1: ACC the windows shrink, the coordinators are better. You have
[2:22] Speaker 1: to pick up first downs with your legs. I thought today,
[2:24] Speaker 1: especially in the second half, Sean Payton let bow Knicks
[2:28] Speaker 1: run on crucial downs.
[2:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, Colin, it looked really ugly. I mean
[2:32] Speaker 2: there was a point in time, I mean they had
[2:34] Speaker 2: to score thirty three points in the fourth quarter to
[2:36] Speaker 2: win the game. They didn't have a point. You know,
[2:39] Speaker 2: there was a stat I saw going out of the
[2:41] Speaker 2: first half that over the last of course, of the
[2:44] Speaker 2: last three games, that they would be dead last in
[2:47] Speaker 2: third down conversion percentage. I mean, they were atrocious. They
[2:50] Speaker 2: were just going three and out. They couldn't sustain any drives.
[2:53] Speaker 2: He kept missing the big plays and then it just flipped.
[2:56] Speaker 2: I mean, the one thing you can't deny that he has.
[2:58] Speaker 2: He's got some mental fortitude and Sean Payton what looked
[3:01] Speaker 2: like was the game winning touchdown. They ran like a
[3:03] Speaker 2: quarterback power, you know, and they just let him. If
[3:07] Speaker 2: you remember a long time ago, the forty nine ers
[3:09] Speaker 2: with Alex Smith played Sean Payton in a playoff game
[3:12] Speaker 2: with the Saints. They did the same thing, and I
[3:14] Speaker 2: you know that quarterback. They should institute more stuff like
[3:17] Speaker 2: that with Bow and their offense because they've been running
[3:20] Speaker 2: these deep breaking routes he's been missing them. Keep it shorter,
[3:24] Speaker 2: short intermediate, run the ball. I didn't think they ran
[3:26] Speaker 2: the ball enough. I'm with you on the Giants, like
[3:29] Speaker 2: I won. Their quarterback just looks like he's kind of
[3:31] Speaker 2: got a little something. I mean, he was ye Cam
[3:34] Speaker 2: Skataboo looks fantastic. Their pass rushers all look good. Listen,
[3:38] Speaker 2: it's not going well. They've lost two devastating games. This
[3:41] Speaker 2: is the Cowboy This is worse than the Cowboy game.
[3:44] Speaker 2: But you know, i'd say, big picture, you're okay, but
[3:46] Speaker 2: this was It looked for a second when Denver was
[3:50] Speaker 2: getting shut out, and even when they were down what
[3:52] Speaker 2: twenty six to eight, You're like, well, the Chiefs are
[3:55] Speaker 2: on the transcending up and Denver's just got some major
[3:59] Speaker 2: offensive problems. The Chargers are kind of are the Chiefs
[4:01] Speaker 2: just going to run away with this division? And then
[4:03] Speaker 2: it's the NFL and it flip.
[4:05] Speaker 1: You know, I was thinking John DeShawn because they really
[4:08] Speaker 1: do that Broncos between Evan Ingram, Mims, Sutton Franklin, they
[4:13] Speaker 1: have long, athletic and guys that can get over the top.
[4:18] Speaker 1: And their offensive line is right now rated number one
[4:21] Speaker 1: or two by PFF and I wonder if Sean has
[4:24] Speaker 1: so much confidence in it, he's he's really looking for
[4:27] Speaker 1: big plays. And the truth is this is only like
[4:30] Speaker 1: twenty twenty four or five starts for bow Nicks. Okay,
[4:35] Speaker 1: He's so it's almost like he's coaching like he's got
[4:38] Speaker 1: because bo played so much college football. It's almost as
[4:41] Speaker 1: if Sean has put a ton on his back. And
[4:43] Speaker 1: because Seawn loves I mean Ingram's a stud physically, he
[4:46] Speaker 1: doesn't even look like the He's like an NBA guy.
[4:49] Speaker 1: And then Mims and Sutton. These are long, rangy athletes
[4:52] Speaker 1: and they're all talented and so that they have the
[4:55] Speaker 1: potential for big plays. But sometimes I think that they
[5:00] Speaker 1: should worry more about like five yards on first down,
[5:03] Speaker 1: and a lot of it would be bow Knicks packages
[5:06] Speaker 1: because I mean, again when you watch him and you
[5:08] Speaker 1: see it with Jackson Dart, these guys are born early
[5:11] Speaker 1: in their career. They want to run. They know how
[5:15] Speaker 1: good the defense. I mean, Jackson Dart, we thought scored
[5:17] Speaker 1: the winning touchdown. They literally called a play for They said,
[5:20] Speaker 1: forget scataboo, Boone Knicks quarterback draw. So I mean clearly
[5:26] Speaker 1: day ball Truss, Jackson Dart to run. I mean I
[5:29] Speaker 1: just when I watch bow Knicks, I see the skeptics,
[5:33] Speaker 1: but he is an athlete.
[5:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I would run the ball more. JK.
[5:38] Speaker 2: Dobbins I thought looked really good. I mean when they
[5:40] Speaker 2: get on the edges with their offensive line, the young
[5:42] Speaker 2: running back RG Harvey looks good. How about Hufunga, I
[5:47] Speaker 2: mean it has to be one of the better offseason
[5:49] Speaker 2: pickups in the league. He made play after play today
[5:51] Speaker 2: in the middle of the game to kind of keep
[5:53] Speaker 2: it close.
[5:54] Speaker 1: Between George Pickens, Dallas acquisition and Hufunga. Those are great talent,
[6:00] Speaker 1: but they're just great fits now. I mean, hu Fungo
[6:03] Speaker 1: was gonna work anywhere. Pickens is going to be as
[6:05] Speaker 1: good as his quarterback, and Dak's absolutely on fire. You
[6:07] Speaker 1: know what did open it up? Jackson Dart had one
[6:09] Speaker 1: big mistake today. It was that interception. They were leading
[6:12] Speaker 1: twenty six sixteen five forty in the fourth and he
[6:15] Speaker 1: had It was an ugly pick by him. It was
[6:17] Speaker 1: actually a great catch.
[6:18] Speaker 2: So, I mean it was the only way Denver get
[6:21] Speaker 2: back in the game. They were going to need a turnover.
[6:22] Speaker 2: They were down twenty eight or twenty six to eight.
[6:25] Speaker 2: You know, with seven minutes left, the only way you
[6:27] Speaker 2: could come back was a turnover, and he gifted them
[6:29] Speaker 2: one on their side of the field.
[6:30] Speaker 1: So we've seen boon Nicks do this multiple times. I
[6:34] Speaker 1: do think this is true. John. I think those sixty
[6:38] Speaker 1: one college starts, coupled with Sean Payton's play calling, this
[6:42] Speaker 1: is what we always talk about. Who where you land
[6:46] Speaker 1: in the NFL matters. Bow Knicks a lot of college starts,
[6:50] Speaker 1: in a lot of harsh environments at Oregon, at Washington,
[6:53] Speaker 1: big big games, all that college stuff. I think's paid off.
[6:58] Speaker 1: Bo Nix has been in a lot of close games
[7:00] Speaker 1: college and pro.
[7:02] Speaker 2: I do wonder, you know, forever with Drew Brees, especially
[7:05] Speaker 2: toward the latter end of his career, like pushing the
[7:08] Speaker 2: ball down his fields. His you know, shoulder started to go,
[7:11] Speaker 2: and Sean really wanted this athletic, physical guy in Tasom
[7:14] Speaker 2: Hill and it didn't quite work out. Now he has
[7:16] Speaker 2: bo Nicks, who has the physical capability of pushing the
[7:19] Speaker 2: ball down the field and throwing bombs. It feels like
[7:22] Speaker 2: he's very inclined to throw a lot of go routes
[7:24] Speaker 2: even though it's not working, because he's been dreaming about
[7:27] Speaker 2: throwing go routes for a decade, even though, like you said,
[7:30] Speaker 2: with Sutton and some of their longer guys, I don't
[7:32] Speaker 2: pretend to no more football than Peyton, but it just
[7:34] Speaker 2: clearly is not working. I think some of the back
[7:36] Speaker 2: shoulder throws, some just you know, running the intermediate passing game.
[7:40] Speaker 2: That's where their skill sets, especially with the way Bo's playing,
[7:44] Speaker 2: because right now, his inaccuracy on the long ball, he
[7:47] Speaker 2: just can't hit him. I mean he's just way off.
[7:49] Speaker 2: Even on the pass did they hit that ended up
[7:52] Speaker 2: leading the game winning field goal. I just think he
[7:55] Speaker 2: kind of threw it up for two guys and I
[7:57] Speaker 2: don't even know who he was throwing it to, but
[7:59] Speaker 2: it worked. And like I just think down the field
[8:02] Speaker 2: he's not very accurate more close and he had a
[8:04] Speaker 2: lot of balls batting today. That's a little cool he did.
[8:07] Speaker 2: I mean, that's clearly a game plan thing with the defense.
[8:09] Speaker 2: Put your hands up. He's not the tallest guy. Felt
[8:12] Speaker 2: like he had like ten balls batted. I know the
[8:13] Speaker 2: number is probably five, but there was a stretch in
[8:16] Speaker 2: that game how many times on second or third down
[8:18] Speaker 2: ball would just hit the ground. You just have a
[8:20] Speaker 2: waste and play.
[8:21] Speaker 1: But this league now, I mean, here's what it's exciting
[8:24] Speaker 1: for me. I like good quarterback play. I watched Jordan
[8:28] Speaker 1: Love Jackson, Dart bow Knicks all great on final drives today,
[8:34] Speaker 1: and I think, if you're the New York Giants, I
[8:37] Speaker 1: just looked over my notes, I think you have to
[8:39] Speaker 1: feel so good. I mean they call it arm and hammer.
[8:42] Speaker 1: I think between Dart and Skataboo. I like Dabel more
[8:45] Speaker 1: than you. I love their defensive front. It's I mean,
[8:49] Speaker 1: one New York team is unwatchable. I've been saying this
[8:52] Speaker 1: for two years. I said this about the Colts for
[8:54] Speaker 1: two years. They just got to get quarterback right. They've
[8:56] Speaker 1: got players. I feel that way about the Giants when
[8:59] Speaker 1: I watched today. The Giants have a lot of guys,
[9:02] Speaker 1: a majority on the defensive side. But you know, they
[9:04] Speaker 1: have a lot of these wide receiver guys. I mean
[9:06] Speaker 1: they have a couple of big I mean tight ends.
[9:09] Speaker 1: These guys come out of nowhere. I mean they play it.
[9:11] Speaker 1: You know, you tap or unlv and I mean there's
[9:15] Speaker 1: tight end. I mean there's six five and a half
[9:17] Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty pound guys. I mean McBride for
[9:20] Speaker 1: Arizona craft for Green Bay. You know, they don't go
[9:23] Speaker 1: to huge schools and they just become stars.
[9:26] Speaker 2: I'll defend Daveall on this. He clearly was the guy
[9:29] Speaker 2: pounding the table on Dart. You know, that was the
[9:32] Speaker 2: guy that he wanted. He went all in on him
[9:34] Speaker 2: at this point in time. And they're not gonna end
[9:36] Speaker 2: up winning many games. Will probably be a five to
[9:38] Speaker 2: six win team at best. To me, you roll it back.
[9:41] Speaker 2: Even if you got to give him like a fake
[9:42] Speaker 2: one year extension. I'm not in firing my head coach
[9:46] Speaker 2: if I'm day Ball. Who's an offensive guy, who's the
[9:49] Speaker 2: quarterbacks guy? I got to give this a couple of
[9:51] Speaker 2: year window because then you're just doing what the Titans
[9:53] Speaker 2: are doing and it's just complete train wreck. You actually
[9:56] Speaker 2: have even though in losses a lot of positive momentum. Yes,
[9:59] Speaker 2: you said, well, look at the team you share the
[10:01] Speaker 2: stadium with. I mean, that's that's an unwatchable product. This
[10:04] Speaker 2: is a real football team with these two young guys.
[10:07] Speaker 2: That is just I would not get rid of. I am.
[10:09] Speaker 2: I'm a proponent of keeping Brian Daball right now, I
[10:12] Speaker 2: don't exactly know contractually what's he going to turn down,
[10:15] Speaker 2: Like a one year extension. I want to get fired.
[10:18] Speaker 2: I mean, he's not gonna be a head coach anywhere else.
[10:20] Speaker 2: To me, I got no problem bringing them back for
[10:22] Speaker 2: another year based on what we're seeing right now.
[10:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, I listen, there is no question if you look
[10:28] Speaker 1: at what like Shane Stiken has done to Daniel Jones.
[10:31] Speaker 1: I mean we see it time and time again with
[10:33] Speaker 1: these offensive head coaches, do they It's a different field.
[10:36] Speaker 1: Bon Nicks wouldn't be doing this with a defensive coach,
[10:39] Speaker 1: I like Demiko Ryan's Bonnicks wouldn't be doing this. I mean,
[10:42] Speaker 1: there is just a it's almost like a language they
[10:44] Speaker 1: talk with quarterback. So I think that's one of the
[10:48] Speaker 1: It's a heartbreaking loss for the New York Giants. But
[10:50] Speaker 1: you can't watch Jackson Dart and not see the energy,
[10:55] Speaker 1: the confidence. You know, an earth thing is he has
[10:58] Speaker 1: a and I've said this before, it happens all the time.
[11:01] Speaker 1: He has a better arm as a pro than he
[11:03] Speaker 1: did in college. Like he makes throws now, and you know,
[11:06] Speaker 1: I mean they're young athletes. They work their ass off,
[11:09] Speaker 1: but his arm is no problem. He I have no
[11:12] Speaker 1: problem Jackson Dark can sling it.
[11:15] Speaker 2: I thought both those guys. The arm talent was pretty
[11:18] Speaker 2: evident today, especially in the second half of the game.
[11:21] Speaker 1: Okay, let's go to green Bay twenty seven over Arizona
[11:25] Speaker 1: twenty three. So again, Jordan Love had a game winning drive.
[11:28] Speaker 1: You know, it's interesting. Green Bay can't really run. They're
[11:32] Speaker 1: not getting a great push on the offensive line. Dobbs
[11:36] Speaker 1: Craft and Matthew Golden have been good targets for them.
[11:39] Speaker 1: Christian Watsons always hurt. I don't feel like Jacobs quite
[11:43] Speaker 1: has the pop this year. He's had injuries. I don't
[11:46] Speaker 1: feel they run it, so they're very bad on third down.
[11:50] Speaker 1: They can't extend drives. But I listen. One of my
[11:54] Speaker 1: bets of the week is I took Arizona the points.
[11:56] Speaker 1: I picked twenty eight to twenty four green Bay to
[11:58] Speaker 1: win close, and it was twenty seven to twenty three.
[12:00] Speaker 1: It looked a lot like I thought. My take was
[12:02] Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissett or Kyler Murray Kider' is the better athlete.
[12:06] Speaker 1: Jacoby's probably better from the pocket. So I think Arizona
[12:09] Speaker 1: at home is tough. I thought they controlled most of
[12:12] Speaker 1: the game. I think Trey McBride is a top three
[12:15] Speaker 1: tied end in the sport green Bay one. You know,
[12:21] Speaker 1: they're really young, and I tend to like, almost to
[12:23] Speaker 1: a fault, apologize for young teams. I really like green Bay.
[12:27] Speaker 1: I thought the big win for green Bay today was
[12:29] Speaker 1: Micah Parsons had three sacks. They got him for games
[12:33] Speaker 1: like today. You score late, you need this sack. And
[12:36] Speaker 1: Bill Pollian taught me this year's ago. He said, if
[12:39] Speaker 1: you have a Pro Bowl level quarterback, you not only
[12:42] Speaker 1: need a left tackle, you need a pass rusher. You're
[12:44] Speaker 1: gonna lead seventy five percent of your games with four
[12:47] Speaker 1: minutes to go. That's where Dwight Freeney came in. Dwight
[12:49] Speaker 1: Freeney closed he was the Mariano Rivera Peyton manning for years,
[12:54] Speaker 1: and that's what That's what Mike is. Mike is the closer.
[12:57] Speaker 1: And Green Bay you know this, they haven't had that
[12:59] Speaker 1: clothe are on that line for years.
[13:01] Speaker 2: Yeah, totally. I mean he was a man amongst boy,
[13:03] Speaker 2: especially down the stretch, you know, bringing him in fresh
[13:06] Speaker 2: to me, this is a game when you're playing Jakobe
[13:08] Speaker 2: who cannot move, which it's kind of undeniable. The Cardinals
[13:11] Speaker 2: look better offensively with him at corteration than you a kayler.
[13:14] Speaker 2: They look way more efficient, but like he can't move.
[13:17] Speaker 2: And if you're gonna have one of the best pass
[13:18] Speaker 2: rush in the league and you're gonna pay two hundred
[13:20] Speaker 2: million dollars for a guy and give he's got to
[13:22] Speaker 2: dominating this spot. And he did. You know that. It
[13:24] Speaker 2: was my beef early in the season against the Cowboys,
[13:26] Speaker 2: Like you're spending all this money for this guy. He's
[13:29] Speaker 2: got to take over games. You're you're treating him like
[13:32] Speaker 2: one of the all time greats in the history of
[13:33] Speaker 2: the league. And he showed that today his speed coming
[13:36] Speaker 2: around the edge that they couldn't touch him. But kway
[13:39] Speaker 2: Walker all those guys like the Packers are gonna have
[13:41] Speaker 2: to hang their hat on being an elite pass rushing
[13:45] Speaker 2: team because offensively, if you went back to last year,
[13:48] Speaker 2: they start slow like they did all last year the majority,
[13:52] Speaker 2: and this year he has seventy five yards passing at halftime.
[13:55] Speaker 2: It's like, who are you guys playing? This isn't this
[13:58] Speaker 2: Arizona Cardinals. Defensively, they're the skill wise, they're just not
[14:01] Speaker 2: that talented and they just can't They couldn't generate yards.
[14:04] Speaker 2: And I get it, Josh Jacobs is I think he
[14:07] Speaker 2: was sick. And did you see that story yesterday? They
[14:09] Speaker 2: were way late, they had like a six hour delay. Yes,
[14:12] Speaker 2: But it's like from a talent standpoint, they just look
[14:15] Speaker 2: so slow and lethargic, and they've done this now for
[14:18] Speaker 2: two straight years. I'm not as confident on them big picture,
[14:22] Speaker 2: like do I feel good about them just being in
[14:24] Speaker 2: the NFC Championship game, But like their talent, their speed
[14:27] Speaker 2: on offense, like you said, I mean they got multiple
[14:29] Speaker 2: wide receivers, the tight ends good, the coaching staff's good,
[14:33] Speaker 2: and the talent on defense up front is just it
[14:35] Speaker 2: should dominate an opponent like this, and they get Jared Goff,
[14:38] Speaker 2: they get some opponents that you know, not everyone's Kayleb
[14:41] Speaker 2: Williams can run around like Jacoby can't move, so he's
[14:43] Speaker 2: kind of a sitting duck back there.
[14:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, he had at one point fourteen straight completions. He
[14:48] Speaker 1: was really comfortable.
[14:49] Speaker 2: He's looked good two weeks in a row.
[14:50] Speaker 1: Collen, Yeah, No, And I was thinking watching that game,
[14:54] Speaker 1: I kind of felt like, you know, I know what
[14:57] Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissette is, but what he really is a big,
[15:00] Speaker 1: strong kid who throws strikes down the field. He can
[15:03] Speaker 1: see the field. How many of his completions were over
[15:05] Speaker 1: the middle of the field. Kyler doesn't give you that.
[15:08] Speaker 1: It's like Jalen Hurst today was great deep down the field,
[15:13] Speaker 1: but you know you're not gonna move off Kinder Murray
[15:16] Speaker 1: for Brissette. But I I do think when you watch
[15:19] Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissett, it's I can see that offensive coordinator saying,
[15:24] Speaker 1: we really have an NFL big franchise sit in the
[15:27] Speaker 1: pocket NFL quarterback and it allows you to do more.
[15:30] Speaker 1: Marvin Harrison, by the way, is playing better. I think
[15:32] Speaker 1: he's there's something there he you know, listen, it's it's
[15:36] Speaker 1: tight ends and wide receivers. It's not always a hit.
[15:38] Speaker 1: They're not all JSN. I mean, JSN now is so
[15:42] Speaker 1: much better than you one. Ebuka is a rarity. JSN
[15:45] Speaker 1: NOW year two. You're like, wow. But I think I
[15:48] Speaker 1: want to I don't want to rip green Bay because
[15:51] Speaker 1: I really do think Arizona's got players. I really do
[15:54] Speaker 1: think they have six or seven elite players. They're very
[15:56] Speaker 1: good at home. I just think Green Bay is a
[15:59] Speaker 1: team that's not getting a push on the offensive line,
[16:02] Speaker 1: so they don't extend drives, and they're not very good early,
[16:06] Speaker 1: so they often play from a hole, and I just
[16:10] Speaker 1: think this is kind of what they are.
[16:13] Speaker 2: Well, Arizona's two and five, they could be six and one.
[16:15] Speaker 2: They literally could win every single game they playing, you know,
[16:19] Speaker 2: and this goes from the beginning of the year. They
[16:21] Speaker 2: have lost some just devastating games. I was flipping around
[16:23] Speaker 2: the volume and I was on the Packer Cardinal game
[16:27] Speaker 2: and Vilma mentioned something that I think the coaches had said, well,
[16:31] Speaker 2: you know, Jacobe works with all the wide receivers after practice,
[16:35] Speaker 2: and it was like, yes, what was that? What are
[16:37] Speaker 2: they saying there? You know, I listen, they're not gonna
[16:40] Speaker 2: win many games. The coaching staffs and kind of peril.
[16:43] Speaker 2: Now they've already find the coach one hundred grand for
[16:46] Speaker 2: something that I thought was pretty innocuous. I mean, stuff
[16:48] Speaker 2: happens in high school football. This whole thing's gonna get
[16:51] Speaker 2: blown up. I think the Kyler Murray era is like
[16:54] Speaker 2: unofficially over, Like he's gonna end up playing more this
[16:57] Speaker 2: year whenever he's HELFI but this whole thing's over. Franchise.
[17:00] Speaker 2: It's kind of sad because they've definitely kind of been closed.
[17:03] Speaker 2: They've had some talent, but it's it's just not working.
[17:06] Speaker 2: Out and they just can't win any of these games.
[17:08] Speaker 2: And I think, listen, they went all in for Kyler,
[17:11] Speaker 2: a five foot nine athlete who just doesn't really rally
[17:14] Speaker 2: the troops clearly, and there's just something missing. And I
[17:18] Speaker 2: think that you look at this game like they just
[17:22] Speaker 2: lose a lot of these games. For a year after year,
[17:24] Speaker 2: they're in so many games. Did Jonathan Gannon? His record
[17:27] Speaker 2: is not going to be very good, But I don't
[17:29] Speaker 2: view him as like some completely overshad failure. Same all
[17:32] Speaker 2: their games kind of look the same. Colin Nope.
[17:34] Speaker 1: I can't tell you how many times I have bet
[17:37] Speaker 1: Arizona to cover. You know, I was on my second
[17:40] Speaker 1: favorite bet today. I was like, you know, Green Bay
[17:42] Speaker 1: is gonna go there. They're gonna have a lot of fans.
[17:44] Speaker 1: But there's I mean Arizona Buddha Baker and McBride, and
[17:48] Speaker 1: they have good receivers and their offensive line is okay.
[17:52] Speaker 1: I just I think my takeaway in this game is
[17:55] Speaker 1: that's why you got Micah. He's your Marion Rivera. He
[17:58] Speaker 1: closed it. He just completely you know, I mean, there's
[18:01] Speaker 1: just in a knock on. Micah was ohways that he
[18:04] Speaker 1: was a splash player in Dallas. That was kind of
[18:06] Speaker 1: the knock on him is that he could disappear for
[18:09] Speaker 1: quarters and he was real quiet in the first half, right,
[18:12] Speaker 1: and Jacoby Brett was already comfortable. Jacoby Brissette was, but
[18:16] Speaker 1: when they needed him, he was great. Today's show brought

[19:33] Speaker 1: hundred Gambler Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia. Okay,
[19:44] Speaker 1: this game, it's really interesting. So Chicago Bears at home
[19:47] Speaker 1: beat the Saints twenty six to fourteen. Saints had four turnovers.
[19:52] Speaker 1: Chicago led twenty to six at half. I mean it's
[19:55] Speaker 1: like Chicago hired the right coach. Their defense is playing
[20:00] Speaker 1: top tier football. Their run game now with adding those
[20:03] Speaker 1: three interior offensive lineman John they can run the football.
[20:07] Speaker 1: They are clearly a run team. The passing game with
[20:10] Speaker 1: Caleb was totally out of sync. Ben Johnson's facial expression,
[20:15] Speaker 1: it's kind of resting, discouraged, like he just never you know,
[20:21] Speaker 1: you know, he knows he's on TV and so he's
[20:24] Speaker 1: not eye rolling, but he looks exasperated sometimes with the
[20:28] Speaker 1: passing game because there's looks that Caleb just either doesn't
[20:31] Speaker 1: see or can't connect. I don't think Caleb is a
[20:34] Speaker 1: naturally innately accurate thrower of the football. But the run
[20:38] Speaker 1: game's real. They're playing poorly and winning in stretches. The
[20:42] Speaker 1: defense has been outstanding. I mean, I think they came
[20:44] Speaker 1: into the game with the most takeaways and they got
[20:46] Speaker 1: four more turnovers. So I look at it and I
[20:49] Speaker 1: think to myself, they're on a one of the four
[20:51] Speaker 1: game winning streak. I mean, they're winning, they're playing imperfectly.
[20:56] Speaker 1: The passing game has moments. Caleb has firepower. He has moments,
[21:00] Speaker 1: but it's what we thought would be the horsepower, the
[21:09] Speaker 1: jet fuel has actually been the liability their passing game.
[21:13] Speaker 1: Like I think Rahma Dunza and Caleb had real connection
[21:16] Speaker 1: in the first half and they just kind of felt
[21:18] Speaker 1: like it just disappeared, it's very uneven to me.
[21:22] Speaker 2: To me, he had so many stretches to day where
[21:25] Speaker 2: it's like that hero ball syndrome of him just running
[21:27] Speaker 2: around sideline, the sideline on pass plays. It's like, I
[21:31] Speaker 2: can't imagine. That's not how Ben Johnson wants to play.
[21:34] Speaker 2: But what did he do? I was thinking about this today,
[21:38] Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson both being available in the
[21:40] Speaker 2: same cycle, Like, that's a pretty good cycle. I mean,
[21:43] Speaker 2: I don't think there was quite enough competition for both
[21:47] Speaker 2: their services. You know, Ben Johnson's one of the better
[21:49] Speaker 2: offensive coordinator candidates in recent memory. You could argue he's
[21:53] Speaker 2: a better candidate at the time when he was available
[21:56] Speaker 2: than Sean McVay was at thirty one years old, than
[21:59] Speaker 2: Kevin O'Connell was. I mean, this guy was the number
[22:01] Speaker 2: one play caller by a mile. He was given all
[22:04] Speaker 2: three years. And then here's where I give him a
[22:07] Speaker 2: lot of credit, Like Dennis Allen's proven he's a really
[22:09] Speaker 2: good defensive coordinator and he gave him the game ball.
[22:11] Speaker 2: You know, I don't know if you saw the highlights, yeah, listen.
[22:14] Speaker 2: I also think that Spencer Rattler tried to like show
[22:17] Speaker 2: that I'm better than Caleb Williams, and he kind of
[22:20] Speaker 2: crumbled in this game. I mean, made a couple of
[22:22] Speaker 2: passes that were like made Caleb look like Lway some
[22:25] Speaker 2: of his decisions. But I'm with you, it's not even
[22:28] Speaker 2: just a passing game. It's Caleb did not look comfortable
[22:31] Speaker 2: today in the pocket he takes off. He's kind of
[22:34] Speaker 2: got that older you know, when Russell Wilson started kind
[22:37] Speaker 2: of leaving his prime because he's run around, but there's
[22:41] Speaker 2: no plays being made after he's scrambling around. It was
[22:44] Speaker 2: a lot of just three sixties and run around. But
[22:46] Speaker 2: if Swift's gonna look like that and their defense gonna
[22:48] Speaker 2: play like that, they're gonna be fighting. Now can they beat?
[22:51] Speaker 2: Do I trust him to be the Packers, the Lions
[22:53] Speaker 2: and some of these games, I don't know if I
[22:55] Speaker 2: go that far. You can't operate like that from a
[22:57] Speaker 2: passing standpoint. I mean, I'm I'm not trying to be
[23:00] Speaker 2: negative because you win four games in a row, that's
[23:01] Speaker 2: a big deal in Chicago, but you got to be
[23:03] Speaker 2: a little concerned with the quarterback and the way he's playing.
[23:06] Speaker 2: Really over the last couple of games, he wasn't that good.
[23:09] Speaker 2: Last week against Washington and they got lucky that Jayden
[23:12] Speaker 2: fumbled the ball or they lose that game.
[23:15] Speaker 1: Here's the upside. They did dominate time of possession, and
[23:18] Speaker 1: again so much like Detroit, they're creative, they pick up
[23:23] Speaker 1: first downs. I mean with Caleb like fifteen to twenty six,
[23:26] Speaker 1: they're not asking him to do a lot, but they're
[23:29] Speaker 1: dominating time of possession and they're running the football. When
[23:32] Speaker 1: they went and got Drew Dolman and Jonah Jackson and
[23:36] Speaker 1: who was the other kid, Oh Joe Tooney. You know
[23:40] Speaker 1: those are elite guys. And we talked about this. You
[23:42] Speaker 1: don't play offensive lineman veterans in the preseason. So the
[23:45] Speaker 1: first two or three weeks, you know, the offensive line
[23:49] Speaker 1: is all about chemistry and cohesion more than any single unit.
[23:51] Speaker 1: Maybe the secondary, but it's all about cohesion. Well, from
[23:55] Speaker 1: about week three on week four on, this has been
[23:58] Speaker 1: a really good offensive line. They're running the ball, they
[24:01] Speaker 1: dimon dominate time of possession. So my takeout of this
[24:05] Speaker 1: thing is, you know, they're winning and these are games
[24:10] Speaker 1: they would have lost. And so for sure, when I
[24:12] Speaker 1: watch a coach, there are limitations any coach has, and
[24:18] Speaker 1: it's like Sean Payton. He's doing what he can with
[24:24] Speaker 1: bow Nicks, which is second half, they're running more. They're
[24:29] Speaker 1: often not very good early, but you can do only
[24:33] Speaker 1: so much with what you have. But when I watch
[24:35] Speaker 1: the Bears, I think this is a choppy, well coached team.
[24:40] Speaker 1: Caleb's right now learning the position, but it's a whole
[24:45] Speaker 1: new staff, new players. I do think he and Roma
[24:47] Speaker 1: Dunze have a field. There is something there that I
[24:50] Speaker 1: think it's good. Swift is a very good running back.
[24:52] Speaker 1: I don't know. I think when you look at Chicago's
[24:54] Speaker 1: history beating a bad team at home, when your quarterbacks
[24:59] Speaker 1: on the then you gotta feel good about a driving home.
[25:03] Speaker 2: Well, to me, you're four and two, like you're in position.
[25:05] Speaker 2: If you just kind of stay five hundred, you're gonna
[25:07] Speaker 2: be in the wild card mix. Here's the other thing.
[25:09] Speaker 2: What's gonna translate for Chicago late in the season. It's
[25:11] Speaker 2: gonna be cold, it's gonna be defense and running the ball.
[25:14] Speaker 2: I'm looking at their schedule. They got the Lions last
[25:16] Speaker 2: game of the season at home, that's outside Green Bay
[25:19] Speaker 2: at home outside. Uh, you got the Browns at at
[25:25] Speaker 2: Green Bay at Philadelphia. I mean, these are cold, inclement
[25:28] Speaker 2: weather games, you're not gonna throw probably in some of
[25:31] Speaker 2: these windy situations, rain, snow, sleet. Who knows, you're not
[25:35] Speaker 2: gonna be throwing for three hundred yards anyway. So if
[25:38] Speaker 2: you get swift, give you one hundred plus yards. Ben
[25:41] Speaker 2: Johnson's excellent with running backs. I mean, that was a
[25:43] Speaker 2: huge thing that he hung has had on in Detroit.
[25:45] Speaker 2: And if Dennis Allen can get because they're missing DB's,
[25:47] Speaker 2: that's the other thing. Like Jalen Johnson out for the season,
[25:49] Speaker 2: he's like, yeah, you know, a borderline all pro level guys.
[25:51] Speaker 2: So their dbs today were I mean, some of the
[25:54] Speaker 2: passes were awful, but they were their DB's made a
[25:57] Speaker 2: couple just incredible plays.
[25:58] Speaker 1: So yeah, here's the other thing. Remember last year they
[26:03] Speaker 1: scored twenty seven points in the first quarter all year.
[26:05] Speaker 1: Once again this week they took a thirteen to nothing lead,
[26:08] Speaker 1: So again that is a huge step john Last year
[26:12] Speaker 1: they could not score in the first So I think
[26:15] Speaker 1: as of now, I don't know what the number is.
[26:16] Speaker 1: They scored twenty seven first quarter points last year. I'm
[26:19] Speaker 1: not sure. I mean, I think they're now almost at
[26:22] Speaker 1: forty points for the year and or third through the season.
[26:25] Speaker 1: So if you just look at run game, improved functionality,
[26:29] Speaker 1: first quarter, improved defense, you can see the plan. When
[26:33] Speaker 1: you watch them play, you can see the plan. And
[26:35] Speaker 1: for the record, Caleb is better than last year. The
[26:37] Speaker 1: other thing about Caleb, it's interesting, and I thought about
[26:39] Speaker 1: this day with Spencer Rattler. For all the misgivings you
[26:43] Speaker 1: and I may have or questions about Caleb, you ever
[26:45] Speaker 1: noticed this John He doesn't throw a lot of picks.
[26:48] Speaker 1: He didn't at USC. He only threw six last year
[26:51] Speaker 1: in total chaos and dysfunction. He may drive you nuts,
[26:55] Speaker 1: but he doesn't throw a lot of interceptions. He's just
[26:58] Speaker 1: he misses open guys. He didn't throw it to the
[27:00] Speaker 1: other team much.
[27:02] Speaker 2: And this gets back I think hiring Ben Johnson. We
[27:05] Speaker 2: said it for so many times with the Chargers when
[27:07] Speaker 2: they had these really good teams and they would hire
[27:09] Speaker 2: Mike McCoy or Brandon Staley, they went cheap. Finally you
[27:12] Speaker 2: get Jim Harbo. It's like, Okay, now you have a
[27:14] Speaker 2: chance for the first time in Bear's modern day history.
[27:18] Speaker 2: Like they spent huge money on a real guy that
[27:21] Speaker 2: every other team would want. And it's paying dividends right
[27:24] Speaker 2: now because I'm with you, like you know, if anyone
[27:27] Speaker 2: can just corral and fix some of these pocket deficiencies
[27:32] Speaker 2: with Caleb, And I also just think it gets back
[27:33] Speaker 2: to sometimes smaller guys harder to see. So part of
[27:36] Speaker 2: like why did Russell scramble around a lot because he
[27:38] Speaker 2: probably couldn't see anything. He scrambled, he got outside the
[27:41] Speaker 2: tackle box he could see. Caleb doesn't too, And like
[27:43] Speaker 2: you said, he's not doing as many hero balls across
[27:46] Speaker 2: his body to the other team. That that's a win
[27:49] Speaker 2: in itself.
[27:50] Speaker 1: And now for our next segment, Whiskey Business. Yes, Whiskey
[27:53] Speaker 1: Business brought to you by Green River Whiskey, the official
[27:55] Speaker 1: whiskey of the Colin Coward Podcast. So it wasn't one
[27:59] Speaker 1: of the better games, but Kansas City beat Las Vegas
[28:02] Speaker 1: thirty one to nothing. The Raiders were held in ninety
[28:04] Speaker 1: five total yards and in the last month, the Chiefs
[28:08] Speaker 1: are averaging thirty two points a game. And I was
[28:11] Speaker 1: sitting there this morning, I really believe the NFL has
[28:14] Speaker 1: come down to four tiers. First tiers Kansas City, it
[28:19] Speaker 1: looks like the best team in the league. Then there's
[28:22] Speaker 1: several teams Tampa among them, Rams, Detroit, Philadelphia, Colts that
[28:27] Speaker 1: appear to be really good, solid football teams. Maybe Denvers
[28:29] Speaker 1: in there, maybe not. There's three awful teams Titans, Jets, Dolphins,
[28:36] Speaker 1: probably Cleveland. But then there's about twenty one to twenty two.
[28:40] Speaker 1: Jeff Short said this today on the internet coin flips,
[28:43] Speaker 1: and so we've got a great team, a small handful
[28:47] Speaker 1: of good teams, a really small handful of awful like
[28:51] Speaker 1: bottom of the NBA level teams, and then most of
[28:54] Speaker 1: these games are it's a lot of coin flip stuff.
[28:57] Speaker 1: I mean, maybe the Raiders are off, but today's a
[29:02] Speaker 1: great Yeah. So today this is the first time all
[29:05] Speaker 1: year Kansas City had their top three receivers. Rice had
[29:08] Speaker 1: seven catches, Worthy had three, Juju three. I think I
[29:12] Speaker 1: told you two weeks ago keep your eye on Breshard Smith.
[29:16] Speaker 1: That kid's gonna end up being a really good player
[29:18] Speaker 1: for them, Hollywood Brown. Now you look at their receiving
[29:22] Speaker 1: corps with Rice and Worthy and you're like, oh, it's
[29:26] Speaker 1: one of the deeper wide receiving corps. I I mean,
[29:29] Speaker 1: I just it was forty two to seventeen time of possession.
[29:33] Speaker 1: I mean, to me, Kansas City clearly looks like the
[29:36] Speaker 1: best speed, the most depth. The best team hands down
[29:40] Speaker 1: in the league. That's what my eyes tell me.
[29:42] Speaker 2: I think one major difference this year and the way
[29:45] Speaker 2: they look on offense they did last year. Hollywood Brown
[29:47] Speaker 2: basically missed the entire season. For him last season, he
[29:51] Speaker 2: adds an element of just I wouldn't say he's Tyreek
[29:54] Speaker 2: Hill by any means from a speed standpoint, but he
[29:56] Speaker 2: is a faster receiver, but he can catch ball's intermediate
[29:59] Speaker 2: go over the he makes a lot of plays for him.
[30:02] Speaker 2: To me, you put him with Juju. Now Rice is back,
[30:04] Speaker 2: It's kind of opened everything up because Travis looks way better.
[30:08] Speaker 2: Part of last year was like, Travis looks really bad
[30:10] Speaker 2: and looking back, clearly he's an older veteran player, but
[30:13] Speaker 2: everything was so condensed because they had no thread outside.
[30:16] Speaker 2: So now you add Hollywood Brown, who's completely healthy. Juju
[30:19] Speaker 2: and Patrick have a good chemistry. Rice now back in
[30:22] Speaker 2: the mix with Worthy, you can spread the field out
[30:26] Speaker 2: and open the middle of the field for eighty seven
[30:28] Speaker 2: to operate. Because to me, Travis over the last month,
[30:31] Speaker 2: I don't want to say he looks like himself in
[30:33] Speaker 2: his prime, but he definitely looks way better than the
[30:35] Speaker 2: guy that I thought was kind of over the hill
[30:37] Speaker 2: last year, and part of it is he's not quite
[30:39] Speaker 2: fast enough just to take on two guys anymore. But
[30:42] Speaker 2: if he can get one on one coverage and just
[30:44] Speaker 2: work zones and what he does best, as he's doing
[30:47] Speaker 2: right now, their offense feels much more balanced. And like
[30:50] Speaker 2: you said, the Smith kid, I think from SMU they
[30:52] Speaker 2: drafted the seventh round to go with Pachako and Kareem Hunt.
[30:55] Speaker 2: Their offense just has a lot of pros like that
[30:58] Speaker 2: guy's like I want to replace this guy. I place
[31:00] Speaker 2: this guy. Maybe not like Hall of Fame guys in
[31:02] Speaker 2: their peak, but just a well rounded bunch. I mean,
[31:05] Speaker 2: their star left tackle has disappeared for a couple of games,
[31:09] Speaker 2: got some personal stuff going on, so whenever they get
[31:11] Speaker 2: him back. Interior, their offensive lines excellent. Their quarterback I
[31:15] Speaker 2: thought's been playing well all season and today I mean spags.
[31:19] Speaker 2: I don't quite understand what's up with the Raiders, but they,
[31:22] Speaker 2: I mean they Patrick Mahomes had sunflower season had on
[31:26] Speaker 2: at the end of the third quarter, which is pretty
[31:27] Speaker 2: unheard of in the NFL.
[31:28] Speaker 1: Colin Well AFC had their chances, but the Ravens are
[31:31] Speaker 1: one in five. The Bills have lost two straight and
[31:34] Speaker 1: the Chargers now are just beat up. I have just
[31:36] Speaker 1: timetell you something. If you didn't watch the Chargers Colts,
[31:39] Speaker 1: don't blame it on Justin Herbert. He's getting hell kicked
[31:41] Speaker 1: out of them and he is just sitting back there
[31:43] Speaker 1: throwing darts. But I kind of look at Kansas City
[31:46] Speaker 1: and it drives people crazy. But this league, for as
[31:49] Speaker 1: long as I can remember, you can go back to
[31:51] Speaker 1: Eddie de Bartolow and Bill Walsh and Joe Montana. It's
[31:55] Speaker 1: a leadership league. If you're good at the top. I mean,
[31:59] Speaker 1: you know, you go look at the New York Giants
[32:01] Speaker 1: fall from grace. They lose Tom Kaffin, they lose Eli Manning.
[32:06] Speaker 1: I don't think they were ever great at general manager,
[32:08] Speaker 1: but they were capable, and it's just never been the same.
[32:11] Speaker 1: It's just very hard John to find. As you know,
[32:15] Speaker 1: there's no other Andy Reid in the league. And Brett
[32:18] Speaker 1: Veach is one of the great mid round draft guys
[32:22] Speaker 1: in the league, and the Hunt family is mostly hands off,
[32:25] Speaker 1: and then Mahomes is uniquely gifted. And it's just I
[32:29] Speaker 1: always feel sort of like in college football, like if
[32:33] Speaker 1: your Notre Dame or your Georgia and you hire the
[32:35] Speaker 1: wrong coach, or Michigan or something like that. You know,
[32:38] Speaker 1: one of those schools, it's easier to catch up. You know,
[32:42] Speaker 1: it's easier. Once Lincoln Riley came to USC, their offensive
[32:45] Speaker 1: recruiting got better, right, and they may not win this
[32:47] Speaker 1: or that, but the offense got really good, really fast.
[32:49] Speaker 1: Because he knows what he's doing us. He's a big brand.
[32:51] Speaker 1: It's easier for blue bloods. If Alabama gets Kaylin de
[32:54] Speaker 1: Borie struggles for a year, Nick say, but it's Alabama,
[32:57] Speaker 1: Like it's a huge brand. And I kind of like
[33:00] Speaker 1: Kansas City. It's like if they have a bad draft
[33:03] Speaker 1: or they have injuries. They're just so smart. I mean, owner,
[33:09] Speaker 1: GM president, quarterback, like everybody's an A toh and a plus.
[33:13] Speaker 1: So I just I think the last couple of years
[33:15] Speaker 1: it's they can't figure out the offensive line. I watch
[33:18] Speaker 1: them the last four weeks to average thirty two a game.
[33:21] Speaker 1: I just they look different than everybody else.
[33:24] Speaker 2: Well, they have a huge advantage the infrastructure. I mean,
[33:26] Speaker 2: Andy Reid and Breadveach have been there the entire time.
[33:29] Speaker 2: Beach hasn't been the GM the whole time, but he's
[33:30] Speaker 2: been with Andy from day one in Kansas City. Their
[33:33] Speaker 2: offensive line coach, Heck has been there the entire time.
[33:36] Speaker 2: Spags now has been there, what five or six years.
[33:38] Speaker 2: Travis Kelsey has been there since twenty fourteen. Chris Jones
[33:41] Speaker 2: has been there since twenty sixteen. Patrick Mahomes, I think
[33:45] Speaker 2: the standing and the standard it's it's pretty unheard of
[33:49] Speaker 2: and unparalleled. I mean, it's got a little mccordy, Edelman, Gronk, Brady, Belichick.
[33:56] Speaker 1: Josh and Daniel.
[33:58] Speaker 2: It's a huge advantage they have that no one else
[34:00] Speaker 2: in the league has, even Denver, Like, how long is
[34:02] Speaker 2: this coaching staff and his crew really been together? Two
[34:04] Speaker 2: and a half years, So the advantage they have over
[34:08] Speaker 2: their competition. And listen, the Colts Shane Siken looks as
[34:12] Speaker 2: good as any offense. If you had to give me
[34:13] Speaker 2: who's the offensive coordinator of the year as we sit
[34:15] Speaker 2: here October nineteenth, he one would get my vote. But
[34:19] Speaker 2: like this is Daniel Jones first year there. You know,
[34:22] Speaker 2: they got some new pieces. Obviously got some new pieces
[34:25] Speaker 2: on defense. I got some younger players that are contributing,
[34:28] Speaker 2: like you're telling me. In the second round Colts against
[34:31] Speaker 2: the Chiefs, even if Kansas City has to go to
[34:33] Speaker 2: the colt. You feel great about Daniel Jones against Kansas City,
[34:36] Speaker 2: of course not, you know so and he is calling
[34:39] Speaker 2: I mean today Colin he was like Andy, I think
[34:42] Speaker 2: early on. One thing about Andy, he's kind of wired
[34:45] Speaker 2: more like a Saban, Like he's not really there to
[34:47] Speaker 2: run it up. You know, he'll call off the dogs.
[34:49] Speaker 2: I mean, they just he's not into showing anyone up.
[34:53] Speaker 2: He respects Pete Carroll like that could have been a
[34:55] Speaker 2: lot worse. There are some coaches in college in the
[34:58] Speaker 2: NFL that would have tried score fifty.
[35:01] Speaker 1: That was.
[35:02] Speaker 2: That score doesn't indicate what I witnessed. That that game
[35:05] Speaker 2: was JV VERSU varsity. Crossby got injured, he was knocked out.
[35:08] Speaker 2: But and I would say the same thing for Indy
[35:11] Speaker 2: relative to the Chargers defense, they did whatever they wanted
[35:15] Speaker 2: and that that's the one thing Indy had. I don't
[35:17] Speaker 2: know if their offense or excuse me, their defense is
[35:19] Speaker 2: good enough to stop Kansas City. But offensively, man they
[35:23] Speaker 2: got I mean, the running back is playing as well
[35:25] Speaker 2: as any player in the NFL. Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Warren,
[35:28] Speaker 2: the tight end is fantastic. They got multiple wide receivers,
[35:31] Speaker 2: Pierce Pittman, they are They're impressive. Shane Stichen's having a year.
[35:40] Speaker 1: When you want to enjoy life simpler pleasures, reach for
[35:43] Speaker 1: Green River Whiskey. Whether a dry whiskey or single barrel bourbon,
[35:48] Speaker 1: you're getting over a century of craftsmanship packed into every bottle.
[35:52] Speaker 1: Hop on over to Green River Whiskey dot com and
[35:55] Speaker 1: discover a legend in a bottle today. So let's talk
[36:12] Speaker 1: about the Dallas Cowboys. You know, they clobbert Washington forty
[36:17] Speaker 1: four to twenty two. I mean, Dallas had almost three
[36:19] Speaker 1: hundred yards in the first half, and they had a
[36:24] Speaker 1: great Dak had a great Dallas is so good this year.
[36:26] Speaker 1: At the end of the first half, like they're so good,
[36:30] Speaker 1: and Jaden Daniels got hurt, came back, Mariota had an
[36:33] Speaker 1: absolutely dreadful pick six to give Dallas a forty one
[36:36] Speaker 1: fifteen lead. But I will tell you right now, I'm
[36:41] Speaker 1: of all the surprises in the league. So I picked
[36:44] Speaker 1: New England to be the surprise team in the league.
[36:45] Speaker 1: I feel good about it. I picked Denver in Kansas
[36:48] Speaker 1: City to win that division and go to the playoffs.
[36:51] Speaker 1: Chargers third, I feel pretty good about that. I feel
[36:53] Speaker 1: pretty good about my stuff. I had no idea. I mean,
[36:58] Speaker 1: I didn't think Dallas would be good. Defensively, they may
[37:00] Speaker 1: be the best offensive team in the league. They're situational,
[37:05] Speaker 1: They're unbelievable at the end of halfs. George Pickens, outside
[37:09] Speaker 1: of Halfunga and probably including Hafunga, is the steel of
[37:12] Speaker 1: the offseason. I mean a third round pick for that guy.
[37:16] Speaker 1: They had Cede lamback today. I'm blown away by Dallas
[37:21] Speaker 1: and Jayden Daniels doesn't look right. I don't think he's healthy.
[37:23] Speaker 1: That was both of our concerns when he came into
[37:25] Speaker 1: pro football. Could he stay healthy. I think Dak looks sensational.
[37:29] Speaker 1: That offense is as fun to watch as any in
[37:33] Speaker 1: the league. It is amazing what happens with CD and
[37:36] Speaker 1: Pickens both. It just opens everything up for their tight
[37:38] Speaker 1: end play. Their running back Jevonte Williams looks like the
[37:41] Speaker 1: Denver guy. So I mean, I Dallas is I am.
[37:46] Speaker 1: I don't say this very often. I am shocked about
[37:48] Speaker 1: how good they are offensively.
[37:50] Speaker 2: You could make the argument, and I'm not necessarily making it,
[37:53] Speaker 2: but you could did. Brian Shaan Namer right now as
[37:55] Speaker 2: the coach of the year they trade Michah Parsons whatever,
[37:58] Speaker 2: what was that? Two weeks before, a week before the
[38:01] Speaker 2: start of the season, he not a soul, thought he
[38:05] Speaker 2: should be the head coach, and every human being that
[38:08] Speaker 2: fallows football thought it was an embarrassment to name him
[38:10] Speaker 2: the head coach. And then once he's named the head coach,
[38:13] Speaker 2: they thought he'd be completely over his head. Well, offensively,
[38:15] Speaker 2: he's the offensive play caller and they are dominant. And
[38:19] Speaker 2: then you get rid of Micah to add Pickens, who
[38:24] Speaker 2: is a pretty big personality who is going to shatter
[38:27] Speaker 2: all of his personal highs. I mean, he's on pace
[38:29] Speaker 2: for about eighty catches. I think his career high coming
[38:31] Speaker 2: into the season was five touchdowns. He already got six.
[38:34] Speaker 2: And it feels like on any given play he can score.
[38:36] Speaker 2: I mean he is. He's pretty dialed in.
[38:38] Speaker 1: Now.
[38:39] Speaker 2: I get it, he's a contract year, but those situations
[38:41] Speaker 2: can be touch and go. CD comes back seamless. Just
[38:45] Speaker 2: put him right back in. They hit the ground running. Offensively,
[38:48] Speaker 2: they've looked like a juggernut. Now listen, Washington, the magic
[38:51] Speaker 2: is out. I mean they look defensively, they look terrible.
[38:55] Speaker 2: Jaden needs to protect himself more he's getting crushed. Obviously
[38:58] Speaker 2: they were missing wide receiver, but the magic from last
[39:01] Speaker 2: year is unempty right now. Colin and Dallas feels like
[39:04] Speaker 2: they got a little bit of it now. Defensively, Are
[39:07] Speaker 2: they going to be good enough big picture to compete
[39:08] Speaker 2: for a wild card? I don't know that, but we
[39:11] Speaker 2: all have to admit Brian Schottenheimer has done a remarkable
[39:13] Speaker 2: job as the play caller in managing this situation which
[39:18] Speaker 2: I don't want to say senile quite yet, but Jerry's
[39:20] Speaker 2: pretty out there now in his mid eighties. Not an
[39:22] Speaker 2: easy situation for a first time head coach.
[39:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think it's all because of Dak. I
[39:26] Speaker 1: think Dak is just one of those guys. You know.
[39:29] Speaker 1: It's like everywhere Chris Paul and the NBA went, you know,
[39:32] Speaker 1: the Clippers, if you go back to when he came
[39:35] Speaker 1: into the league, you know down In was at New
[39:39] Speaker 1: Orleans and then the Clippers in wake Forest and everywhere
[39:42] Speaker 1: Chris Paul went. They remember Phoenix for years, they had
[39:45] Speaker 1: you know, Booker, and they had a they were terrible,
[39:49] Speaker 1: and then Chris Paul got there in sixteen points a game,
[39:51] Speaker 1: and his IQ and his toughness and his distribution. It's
[39:54] Speaker 1: like everywhere Chris Paul went, your basketball team got better
[39:57] Speaker 1: and smarter. Like, let's just be honest about that. He
[40:00] Speaker 1: just he's played so many snaps at Mississippi State and Jerry,
[40:05] Speaker 1: whether it's Dez Tyron Smith, zeke Zach Martin, it doesn't
[40:10] Speaker 1: matter Amari Cooper. If he's upright, they win double digit games.
[40:14] Speaker 1: I mean, I think he's been sensational, and I think
[40:17] Speaker 1: it's just like anything else. I don't care if you're
[40:19] Speaker 1: a dentist, a sportscaster, or a quarterback. You just you
[40:22] Speaker 1: do something long enough you don't have to think about it.
[40:26] Speaker 1: And he did this a couple times today where clearly
[40:29] Speaker 1: the first two people weren't open. You're watching his head,
[40:32] Speaker 1: they're not open, and you can just his sense of
[40:35] Speaker 1: the pocket and pressure is so good. He just has
[40:38] Speaker 1: he doesn't get nervous. He's just and he's also a
[40:41] Speaker 1: big guy. I mean, Dak to the average person in America,
[40:44] Speaker 1: even among pro athletes, Dak is big. He's thick. You know,
[40:46] Speaker 1: when guys get older, these pros, they've been in a
[40:49] Speaker 1: pro weight room forever and they also eat, and so
[40:53] Speaker 1: quarterbacks aren't cut. You know, quarterbacks they've got pudding. Dak's
[40:57] Speaker 1: a big human being, and I just watch him when
[41:00] Speaker 1: the pocket collapses, He's totally comfortable. You know. He's just
[41:07] Speaker 1: a really, really good football player, and I don't think
[41:11] Speaker 1: there's a lot of I think he has really great
[41:13] Speaker 1: tight ends. I will say Javonte Williams, the running back,
[41:18] Speaker 1: has returned to that early Denver form. He's pretty damn explosive.
[41:21] Speaker 1: He doesn't go down with one tackle.
[41:23] Speaker 2: Listen, their defense and major question mark. But the one
[41:25] Speaker 2: reason I was just thinking, like, I can't totally write
[41:28] Speaker 2: him off. The kicker they have is a major weapon.
[41:30] Speaker 2: So this is not college football. A lot of your
[41:33] Speaker 2: games are just gonna be within the balance of a score.
[41:36] Speaker 2: And if you get twenty thirty forty seconds on the
[41:39] Speaker 2: clock and you're down, you know two three points. That
[41:42] Speaker 2: guy can hit from seventy yards. I think Burkehart he
[41:46] Speaker 2: blasted a sixty two yard field goal today. He's like
[41:48] Speaker 2: that would have been good for eighty. I mean, he's
[41:50] Speaker 2: just he is. I don't think we've ever seen anything
[41:52] Speaker 2: quite like it. Now. I get it, these kickers have
[41:55] Speaker 2: access to the balls Monday through Saturday, but is that
[41:58] Speaker 2: really making a ten yard different it's remarkable whatever these
[42:01] Speaker 2: guys are doing. And that guy is the cream of
[42:04] Speaker 2: the crop right now because his ball doesn't even move
[42:06] Speaker 2: in the air. It's just right down the middle sixty five.
[42:09] Speaker 2: You don't even think about it. How good are they
[42:11] Speaker 2: like their red zone packages with Brian Schottenheimer, guys like open,
[42:16] Speaker 2: it's been really really impressive to watch. He's you know,
[42:19] Speaker 2: sometimes if you miss your window, I think sometimes in coaching, right,
[42:23] Speaker 2: this sport's pretty fickle and injury here all of a sudden,
[42:26] Speaker 2: you go from a hot name to a negative name.
[42:28] Speaker 2: Maybe you know, he was somewhere in the middle. He
[42:31] Speaker 2: maybe got a little too hot when he was young,
[42:33] Speaker 2: but he kind of fell off the radar. He remember
[42:35] Speaker 2: he got with Russ Wilson. He got fired there in
[42:37] Speaker 2: Seattle and just he kind of fell off the map.
[42:40] Speaker 2: But clearly like this guy knows a little something about
[42:43] Speaker 2: offensive football.
[42:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that their red zone packages are late
[42:47] Speaker 1: half are really It's like, I mean, honestly, it looks
[42:50] Speaker 1: a little bit like Denver and a little bit like
[42:51] Speaker 1: Kansas City. Like there's just when you get into a
[42:53] Speaker 1: congested area and there's guys wide open that that's coaching
[42:57] Speaker 1: and I think I think Dallas deserves a ton of credit.
[43:01] Speaker 1: I want to talk about Tony before we leave and
[43:04] Speaker 1: some college football. So the Eagles beat the Vikings twenty
[43:07] Speaker 1: eight to twenty two. It was an interesting day because
[43:09] Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts was actually great down the field. You know,
[43:12] Speaker 1: that's been a big knock. It's a they can't run
[43:14] Speaker 1: the football anymore. They literally cannot run the football. You know,
[43:18] Speaker 1: Jalen has has heard what people have said. He's a
[43:21] Speaker 1: super competitive guy. Devonte Smith, aj Brown, I mean, it
[43:24] Speaker 1: was it was big game hunting, and you know, Carson
[43:29] Speaker 1: Wentz is Carson Wentz. You know, he's just but Jalen
[43:32] Speaker 1: in the end was nineteen to twenty three, perfect passer
[43:35] Speaker 1: rating three hundred and twenty six yards and anything over
[43:38] Speaker 1: ten yards. He was exceptional. You know, I've kind of
[43:43] Speaker 1: come to terms with Philadelphia. It's always going to be
[43:47] Speaker 1: a leaky faucet because Jalen has There's some limitations, but
[43:53] Speaker 1: there's so many ways to win in this league. From
[43:55] Speaker 1: a quarterback, there's the movers, there's the big guys. I mean,
[43:58] Speaker 1: right now, Burrow can't stay healthy, and we both love
[44:02] Speaker 1: Joe Burrow, like Jalen Hurts, stays healthy, Jalen Hurts leads.
[44:07] Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts is pretty damn good over the top. He's
[44:09] Speaker 1: got that Russell Wilson thing in his prime. He's pretty
[44:11] Speaker 1: damn good over the top. He runs, he's great on
[44:15] Speaker 1: the tush push, And I've just kind of come to
[44:17] Speaker 1: terms with when they're healthy, they're not great at corner.
[44:21] Speaker 1: But when they're healthy, a lot of their guy he's
[44:23] Speaker 1: going to look like this. They're just going to have
[44:25] Speaker 1: bad stretches. It will almost be like if the Dodgers
[44:28] Speaker 1: didn't have as good as starting pitching, they would have
[44:30] Speaker 1: bad stretches if they face good pitching. Like there, he's
[44:34] Speaker 1: not gifted enough in the pocket to get easy completions.
[44:38] Speaker 1: It feels like everything kind of feels like work. Now
[44:40] Speaker 1: they can't run the ball anymore. But I thought this
[44:43] Speaker 1: game today, the vikings off of by at a tough
[44:46] Speaker 1: place to play. Philly's a little beat up. I thought
[44:49] Speaker 1: it was a pretty impressive win.
[44:51] Speaker 2: Did any two plays some up Jalen Hurts more than
[44:54] Speaker 2: at the end of the game. They ran a slant
[44:56] Speaker 2: I think it was like second and ten and he
[44:57] Speaker 2: throws it behind AJ Brown. It's like, oh my god,
[45:00] Speaker 2: they're gonna have to punt and the Minnesota is gonna
[45:02] Speaker 2: get and then the next play they run the double move,
[45:04] Speaker 2: fake the slant and he goes hits him in stride
[45:07] Speaker 2: and you just went all all game long. He hit
[45:09] Speaker 2: Devonte Smith on a deep bomb for a touchdown early
[45:11] Speaker 2: in the game, he hit aj Brown and then when
[45:14] Speaker 2: when it was all on the line, they put it
[45:16] Speaker 2: in his hands and he came really on second anthrow down.
[45:18] Speaker 2: They trusted him enough, so I would say this it
[45:21] Speaker 2: was a good moment for the OC to just kind
[45:24] Speaker 2: of get everyone that they're not gonna be able to
[45:25] Speaker 2: run the ball because their centers banged up. Who's a
[45:27] Speaker 2: little bit of an overrated player, but their their star
[45:30] Speaker 2: guard Dickerson's out and their right guard situation has been
[45:34] Speaker 2: influx because they couldn't pay beckten he leaves. So last
[45:38] Speaker 2: year their interior offensive line, we know their tackles, they said,
[45:41] Speaker 2: arguably the best offensive line in the league. In Saquan
[45:44] Speaker 2: Let's face it, like pretty motivated last year, pretty big
[45:47] Speaker 2: chip on his shoulder, wins the Super Bowl, doing a
[45:50] Speaker 2: lot of commercials living life. Now, you know, life's good,
[45:52] Speaker 2: and I totally understand it. It's hard to be motivated.
[45:55] Speaker 2: As he got to the pinnacle, he proved the Giants
[45:58] Speaker 2: they were wrong. He doesn't he just maybe there's just
[46:01] Speaker 2: a natural wear and tear on the tires. Yeah, we've
[46:04] Speaker 2: seen now two years in a row, McCaffrey a couple
[46:06] Speaker 2: of years ago, Sakuan. When you have this historic number
[46:08] Speaker 2: of matches, usually little slower the next year. Everyone's be
[46:12] Speaker 2: lined on you. But here's what you know about the
[46:13] Speaker 2: Eagles and when Jalen's on. How many teams have DeVante
[46:16] Speaker 2: Smith and aj Brown? I mean it's like you just
[46:18] Speaker 2: kipt those guys the ball. You're unstopped. I bet how
[46:21] Speaker 2: He's up there in the in the box always like
[46:23] Speaker 2: just throw these guys the ball, bro go. I mean
[46:25] Speaker 2: this thing like to go deep. Unlike bo Nicks, he
[46:28] Speaker 2: has a lot of touch on deep breaking routes.
[46:31] Speaker 1: What's amazing about Philadelphia's offenses last year they would just
[46:34] Speaker 1: squish people with time of possession. They didn't have the ball.
[46:37] Speaker 1: I mean the Vikings had the ball. I mean, if
[46:39] Speaker 1: you were casually watching this game on the red zone,
[46:42] Speaker 1: every time you turn on, it felt like Minnesota had
[46:44] Speaker 1: the ball. You know.
[46:46] Speaker 2: Carson Wentz, Carson was atrocious. At parts of this game.
[46:49] Speaker 2: They were horrible guys wide open. He was bad.
[46:52] Speaker 1: He was bad. And again, you know they wanted Sam Donald.
[46:55] Speaker 1: You and I know that they wanted Sam Donald. I
[46:57] Speaker 1: mean the JJ McCarthy thing. He can't stay healthy. So
[47:01] Speaker 1: it's Minnesota has been well run since the seventies and
[47:06] Speaker 1: they have like Buffalo. Now, Buffalo's had long stretches where
[47:09] Speaker 1: they were really a mess. I mean, Jim Kelly years
[47:12] Speaker 1: were great, the Josh Allen years are great, but they
[47:14] Speaker 1: had a lot of lean years. They had leaned decades.
[47:17] Speaker 1: I mean New England went twelve years, just beat them
[47:19] Speaker 1: twice a year. Minnesota's been like Kansas City. They've been
[47:23] Speaker 1: playoffs or borderline playoffs for most of my life. It's
[47:26] Speaker 1: just when you get Mahomes, it changes everything. Minnesota's just
[47:30] Speaker 1: waiting for that great quarterback they probably should have signed.
[47:34] Speaker 1: It was hard. They gave up a fourth and a
[47:36] Speaker 1: fifth to move up to get JJ McCarthy. I think
[47:38] Speaker 1: they wanted to sign Sam Darnold, but Sam flake you
[47:43] Speaker 1: drafted the guy I want to know. I mean, Sam
[47:45] Speaker 1: and his agent made the right call. But now you're trapped.
[47:49] Speaker 1: You kind of have to play JJ and I think
[47:51] Speaker 1: inside the building they have real doubts about it.
[47:53] Speaker 2: I think Breer talked about this last week, you kind
[47:56] Speaker 2: of resurface they had tried to go all in for
[47:59] Speaker 2: Drake May. Did you talk about that last week on
[48:02] Speaker 2: your show? Like they had they had offered I think
[48:04] Speaker 2: their two first round picks and the four the next
[48:07] Speaker 2: year's number one, like they put an enormous package, and
[48:10] Speaker 2: the Patriots smartly just said no. But let's face it,
[48:13] Speaker 2: like they do feel now and you have Kevin O'Connell,
[48:16] Speaker 2: so you never know, like you found Sam Donold, like
[48:19] Speaker 2: they could find a party type, but they could have
[48:21] Speaker 2: a little couple of years of like being like the
[48:22] Speaker 2: Colts right now, because you're like Wentz definitely is not it.
[48:25] Speaker 2: I mean he's on this is sixteen and six years
[48:28] Speaker 2: and let's face it, at this point in time, how
[48:30] Speaker 2: could you have any faith in JJ McCarthy just to
[48:31] Speaker 2: stay healthy, let alone be a good player. So you
[48:34] Speaker 2: watch them, you go, they the personnel's pretty good. They're
[48:38] Speaker 2: coaching is good. But if you don't have a quarterback,
[48:40] Speaker 2: I mean there were guys. Even on the one that
[48:42] Speaker 2: Hawkinson they called a drop. I thought it was a catch,
[48:45] Speaker 2: but I get the rule. He was wide open and
[48:49] Speaker 2: Carson like does this like side arm, like he's chuck knoblock,
[48:52] Speaker 2: just just lobbing the ball and have him catch in
[48:53] Speaker 2: the bread basket. What are you doing?
[48:55] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[48:55] Speaker 2: And that that cost him. And but that's like Carson
[48:59] Speaker 2: wentz your quarterback twenty twenty five, what are you gonna do?
[49:02] Speaker 2: JJ comes back next week or in two weeks. They
[49:05] Speaker 2: got problems that stability at that position because you couldn't
[49:07] Speaker 2: watch it any moment because the players around him, I
[49:10] Speaker 2: mean justin Jefferson spectacular. Honestly, the talent relative to the
[49:13] Speaker 2: Eagles was pretty equal. The quarterback play. The gap was
[49:17] Speaker 2: how he had to feel pretty good. I got rid
[49:18] Speaker 2: of that guy for this guy.
[49:20] Speaker 1: I won, Yeah, no question. I want to talk about this.
[49:25] Speaker 1: The Rams beat the Jags thirty five to seven, And
[49:28] Speaker 1: if you watched that game, it was twenty one nothing
[49:30] Speaker 1: at half. You were watching a great organization, a great coach,
[49:34] Speaker 1: a great quarterback, and a great receiver. But it was
[49:37] Speaker 1: really an organizational win they got in twenty four hours
[49:39] Speaker 1: before the game. The Jags, by the way, had more
[49:44] Speaker 1: yards and more yards per play and lost thirty five
[49:47] Speaker 1: to seven. The Jags had a touchdown called back, multiple sacks.
[49:52] Speaker 1: I mean, Trevor Lawrence got whacked more mistakes. I gotta
[49:57] Speaker 1: tell you. I watched the Rams. They are such a
[50:01] Speaker 1: well run organization. They had a seventh round rookie have
[50:04] Speaker 1: a touchdown. They had the other rookie. I think he's
[50:07] Speaker 1: a second or third round Terrence ferguson the tight end
[50:09] Speaker 1: from Oregon. Suddenly they're deep at tight end. They're not flashy.
[50:14] Speaker 1: I mean because Stafford's not going to give you any
[50:16] Speaker 1: cheap yards in the outside, like unlike a bo Nicks
[50:18] Speaker 1: for dark even young guys. You know, Stafford athletically at
[50:22] Speaker 1: this point is closer to Jacoby Brissett. He's going to
[50:24] Speaker 1: sit in the pocket. And I mean, just let's be honest.
[50:27] Speaker 1: Denver does not win the game without bow Knicks's legs,
[50:30] Speaker 1: and the Giants don't win without Jackson Dart's legs. Like
[50:33] Speaker 1: Stafford is a great pocket passer. But you know there's
[50:35] Speaker 1: three or four times a year or a game you'd
[50:38] Speaker 1: love Matt just to take off and pick up fourteen
[50:40] Speaker 1: yards because sometimes the defense creates pressure. They guess, right.
[50:44] Speaker 1: But I'm watching him today when he's on and he
[50:49] Speaker 1: has bad halfs when Matt Stafford was dialed in today
[50:54] Speaker 1: he and Devant I mean, in a weird way. The
[50:55] Speaker 1: Pooka injury was great because Devonte Adams now he was
[50:58] Speaker 1: the focus of the offense this I guess takeout Kansas City.
[51:04] Speaker 1: I feel like McVeigh is the second best coach in
[51:06] Speaker 1: the NFL.
[51:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I set my alarm this morning for
[51:09] Speaker 2: six thirty. I hit snooze, and by the time I
[51:11] Speaker 2: opened my eyes and turned that thing on, DeVante was
[51:13] Speaker 2: just scoring his first touchdown. It was fourteen to nothing
[51:15] Speaker 2: and they were off to the races, and that thing
[51:17] Speaker 2: was over. I mean, the game was the game was
[51:19] Speaker 2: over before halftime. He is kind of an underrated MVP
[51:22] Speaker 2: candidate right now, Colin. He's got seventeen touchdowns and two
[51:25] Speaker 2: interceptions this year this season, and you know when Puka
[51:28] Speaker 2: comes back, he is going to be able to build
[51:30] Speaker 2: a rapport. Like one thing with Devonte, it's a little
[51:32] Speaker 2: more of a timing right back shoulder throws like that's
[51:36] Speaker 2: what he always hung his hat on with Aaron. You
[51:38] Speaker 2: saw today some of those over the shoulder, some of
[51:40] Speaker 2: those in the red zone. If they developed like a
[51:42] Speaker 2: serious report, he already has it with Puka. That's pretty dangerous,
[51:47] Speaker 2: you know, especially the way their defense, their front can
[51:50] Speaker 2: just dominate the game, dominate. So it's like I was
[51:55] Speaker 2: high on Jacksonville. I think they've been pretty impressive this year.
[51:58] Speaker 2: That was pretty embarrassing. I didn't they showed up twenty
[52:01] Speaker 2: four hours before. Did they stay on the East Coast
[52:04] Speaker 2: and then just.
[52:04] Speaker 1: Fay stayed they practiced The Rams practice at Camden Yards
[52:08] Speaker 1: in Baltimore. They came over. I mean the first half
[52:12] Speaker 1: was one of the smartest, most crisp efficient first halfs
[52:15] Speaker 1: by any team this year. I mean the Rams just
[52:18] Speaker 1: march down the field, play action, clever, a lot of
[52:22] Speaker 1: double tight ends. At one point, I think they had
[52:25] Speaker 1: three tight ends on the field. They used all of them.
[52:28] Speaker 1: Davis Allen, Terrence Ferguson, is it, Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson.
[52:34] Speaker 1: I mean, they used all their tight ends. I thought
[52:37] Speaker 1: it was such a chris. I thought it was an
[52:38] Speaker 1: organizational win. It was, And you know McVeigh tends to
[52:42] Speaker 1: do this. He won't play his rookies early and the
[52:45] Speaker 1: fans will complain about have come Terrence Ferguson's not playing.
[52:48] Speaker 1: But tight end as difficult, as you know, because tight
[52:50] Speaker 1: ends don't have to block. You know, in the NFL
[52:54] Speaker 1: you have to block. In college, you can kind of play. Now,
[52:57] Speaker 1: there are some programs like Michigan Harbaugh makes his tight
[53:01] Speaker 1: ends block, Utah Kyle Whittingham makes his tight ends block.
[53:04] Speaker 1: A lot of these guys don't, so you know, they
[53:07] Speaker 1: spread it out and they're just they're like they're like
[53:10] Speaker 1: receivers that are a little bit slower but bigger. But
[53:13] Speaker 1: I watched the Rams in the first half, and I'm like,
[53:15] Speaker 1: this is an organizational win. They're such Jacksonville is just
[53:20] Speaker 1: just kind of a little loose and I think you
[53:23] Speaker 1: saw one of the most efficient, well runned organizations in
[53:27] Speaker 1: the sport and one of the loosest organizations in the sport.
[53:30] Speaker 1: And that's what I watched, because Jacksonville had the yards,
[53:34] Speaker 1: the yards per play, and they just unraveled and mashed
[53:37] Speaker 1: thirty five to seven.
[53:39] Speaker 2: One thing, Colin, if you look the last couple of years, right,
[53:42] Speaker 2: these last two years they won ten and ten, right,
[53:44] Speaker 2: So twenty games he has thrown in twenty three through
[53:48] Speaker 2: twenty four touchdowns and last year he threw twenty touchdowns
[53:52] Speaker 2: and this year, like he's on pace for probably in
[53:55] Speaker 2: the mid thirties. So if you're getting the guy with
[53:57] Speaker 2: the way their defense is playing. I saw Schrager up
[54:00] Speaker 2: Chris Shula, who deserves a lot of credit. He's been
[54:02] Speaker 2: excellent as defensive coordinator. But if you're getting thirty five
[54:05] Speaker 2: ish touchdowns out of Stafford, like this isn't a ten
[54:08] Speaker 2: win team, it's a twelve or thirteen win team, you know,
[54:10] Speaker 2: with that defense and that potency. I mean DeVante Adams
[54:14] Speaker 2: he's just a pro, but he doesn't work with every
[54:16] Speaker 2: quarterback like part of the reason him and Jimmy look
[54:18] Speaker 2: so lost, or even him and Derek Carr like their
[54:20] Speaker 2: accuracy they're touching the red zones not the same you
[54:23] Speaker 2: saw Stafford today. I mean he can do that shit
[54:25] Speaker 2: with his eyes closed. I mean, well some of those
[54:27] Speaker 2: pinpoint over the shoulder, over the dB like that. That
[54:31] Speaker 2: is going to be a potent weapon for them to
[54:33] Speaker 2: go when Puoka's healthy. That you like them in those
[54:36] Speaker 2: big games like down the stretch of the season.
[54:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean Marvin Harrison and Deavonte Adams and George
[54:42] Speaker 1: Pickens are great. They don't necessarily separate Ceedee Lamb and
[54:46] Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson separate. Rashi Rice has the ability. He separates.
[54:51] Speaker 2: DeVante Smith separates.
[54:53] Speaker 1: Totally separates, but George Pickens doesn't. He's just a great player,
[54:58] Speaker 1: remember and Kwon Bolden just throw it up like Davante.
[55:02] Speaker 1: I think he did separate more, probably four or five
[55:04] Speaker 1: years ago. But what he is is strong long. I
[55:08] Speaker 1: mean again, some of these receivers have kind of an
[55:11] Speaker 1: NBA quality where big hands really long. They're just strong.
[55:16] Speaker 1: So DeVante needs the right quarterback. George Pickens has never
[55:21] Speaker 1: looked this consistently good. Well, Dak Prescart's a huge part
[55:24] Speaker 1: of that equation because Dak knows where to throw it.
[55:27] Speaker 1: So some guys separate. That's you know in the NBA,
[55:30] Speaker 1: they always say the great players can score without a screen.
[55:33] Speaker 1: They get their own shot. And I've talked to gms
[55:36] Speaker 1: in the NBA that say, it's not nearly as many
[55:38] Speaker 1: people as you think can get their own shot. It's
[55:40] Speaker 1: a lot of MJ's and Kobe's and you know SGA's,
[55:44] Speaker 1: but you know, Luca, most guys need a screen, most
[55:48] Speaker 1: guys need a.
[55:50] Speaker 2: Toomp's the Hall of Famer couldn't get his own shot.
[55:52] Speaker 1: That's right. In the end, NFL, you think all these
[55:56] Speaker 1: guys are on four to two Eight's a lot of
[55:58] Speaker 1: these guys don't separate. It's everybody plays zone. Everybody can bracket.
[56:02] Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson today had to cash up the sideline and
[56:05] Speaker 1: just literally caught it, looked trapped and just sprinted down
[56:07] Speaker 1: the side, just flew past pro athletes. You're like, Jesus,
[56:11] Speaker 1: this guy is past like eagle players are just flying.
[56:14] Speaker 2: He was trapped.
[56:15] Speaker 1: He's a ran right past everybody. But I think I
[56:18] Speaker 1: think DeVante without Pooka there today, It's like, okay, this
[56:21] Speaker 1: is my offense. It was a really impressive organizational win. Well,
[56:27] Speaker 1: we've all been there. Fall rolls around. You start digging
[56:30] Speaker 1: through your closet for warmer clothes, and nothing feels quite
[56:34] Speaker 1: right anymore. Right, those beat up pants from college, Yeah,
[56:37] Speaker 1: it's time to retire them. Upgrade to rag and bones
[56:40] Speaker 1: infused denim. I love their stuff. I've been wearing rag
[56:42] Speaker 1: and bone for years. You used to have to choose
[56:44] Speaker 1: between jeans that looked great and jeans that actually lasted.
[56:47] Speaker 1: But with rag and bone you finally get both. I
[56:49] Speaker 1: got four pair built to move with you hold their shape,

[57:44] Speaker 1: you Ragonbone dot Com code column. Love their stuff. One
[57:53] Speaker 1: last NFL thought Cleveland beats Miami. I think thirty one
[57:56] Speaker 1: to six. They bench to it too is horrible no
[58:01] Speaker 1: touchdowns three picks. Cleveland now is one in five. They
[58:06] Speaker 1: no longer. The Jets are going to get the number
[58:07] Speaker 1: one pick. It looks like Mendoz at Indiana, Dante More
[58:12] Speaker 1: whoever they picked, maybe Ty Simpson from Alabama. Cleveland's actually functional.
[58:16] Speaker 1: Cleveland is well coached. Cleveland. I think that running back
[58:19] Speaker 1: int of Ohio State had a hell of a day Milesgarre.
[58:22] Speaker 1: Cleveland's a functional team. I think they traded Flacco away
[58:26] Speaker 1: because they thought they'd win six games with Flacco. I
[58:28] Speaker 1: really do. I think they thought, God, we beat Green Bay,
[58:31] Speaker 1: We're going to win five to six games here. We
[58:33] Speaker 1: don't want to do that. Miami. They're not the Jets
[58:38] Speaker 1: or the Titans. Miami is a disaster. I mean, to me,
[58:43] Speaker 1: i'd move everybody, the GM. The coach in Tua. I
[58:47] Speaker 1: think somebody would buy to a Dome team or something.
[58:50] Speaker 1: I mean, do you think Tua has a market?
[58:53] Speaker 2: No? I mean he mayn't wagh too much money. No,
[58:55] Speaker 2: it makes too much money. You know. Part of their
[58:59] Speaker 2: problem has always been and like when weather changes, they struggle,
[59:02] Speaker 2: and it makes sense, right, I mean, they live in
[59:04] Speaker 2: ninety degrees, what three hundred and fifty days a year.
[59:07] Speaker 2: It's pretty beautiful. Their coach today looked so uncomfortable on
[59:12] Speaker 2: the sideline, like he was cold. If he represents that,
[59:15] Speaker 2: what do you think the team? Everything about one thing
[59:18] Speaker 2: that's Cleveland's defense is really good, Like they are not
[59:21] Speaker 2: a bad you put their unit on like the Steelers,
[59:24] Speaker 2: you'd have a Super Bowl contender. You can combine their
[59:27] Speaker 2: offense with that defense. But Miami, like we knew this offseason.
[59:31] Speaker 2: They told us right, And I honestly defended Tua in
[59:36] Speaker 2: his comments last week about the people late, like it's
[59:39] Speaker 2: not your job, Like it's not Seal Team six's job
[59:43] Speaker 2: to create the missions they get told what to do.
[59:46] Speaker 2: It's the coach's job to set the discipline. So when
[59:49] Speaker 2: you get all these players being late, that's you know,
[59:51] Speaker 2: even Peyton Manning or Tom Brady like they need the
[59:54] Speaker 2: head coach or the GM to set the tone in
[59:57] Speaker 2: the organization. Then they can help voice it out. But
[1:00:00] Speaker 2: like it starts with Mike McDaniel and really the GM
[1:00:04] Speaker 2: the type guys that you bring into your organization. So
[1:00:07] Speaker 2: when you see these high level teams that win a lot,
[1:00:10] Speaker 2: it's because the type human beings they bring into the
[1:00:13] Speaker 2: locker room and you bring. If you look at Miami,
[1:00:16] Speaker 2: like there's not really a rhyme or reason to anything
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: they've done. And everyone's coming down on Tua, which he's not.
[1:00:23] Speaker 2: He's having an atrocious season, but like it's to me,
[1:00:26] Speaker 2: it's way above his head, Like he's just he's a
[1:00:29] Speaker 2: cog in this thing, and he is a functional player.
[1:00:31] Speaker 2: If he made twenty million dollars one hundred percent, someone
[1:00:34] Speaker 2: problem is he's got this enormous contract. I don't think
[1:00:38] Speaker 2: unless they ate some of the money or you know,
[1:00:40] Speaker 2: I'm not saying he's not movable, but he's kind of
[1:00:42] Speaker 2: like a Kyler Murray situation. Money's way too much.
[1:00:45] Speaker 1: I think they're gonna draft like a Tye Simpson with
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: like the fifth pick, and then I think they're gonna pay.
[1:00:50] Speaker 1: What they're gonna do is what Denver did with bo
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: Nicks is like we're just gonna eat some dead cap.
[1:00:54] Speaker 1: Can we get somebody to pay a little bit of it?
[1:00:56] Speaker 1: I mean, Denver's been fine with all that dead cap.
[1:00:58] Speaker 1: I mean the dead CAP's funny if if you remember
[1:01:01] Speaker 1: all the people Denver flushed out, they didn't flush out
[1:01:04] Speaker 1: the general manager. Sean Payton likes the general manager. He
[1:01:07] Speaker 1: could have easily just said I'm doing it. I mean
[1:01:09] Speaker 1: Denver because they drafted well and they hit on bow nicks.
[1:01:12] Speaker 1: You can You're fine with that dead cap stuff. You
[1:01:16] Speaker 1: just have to hit on like four or five draft picks.
[1:01:18] Speaker 1: And Greer hasn't shown the ability to Miami to do that.
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: But you know, it's funny. I want to transition to college.
[1:01:25] Speaker 1: So you know, I watched Ty Simpson this weekend. I
[1:01:28] Speaker 1: watched Mendoza for Indiana. I think Dante More is good.
[1:01:32] Speaker 1: I think there's three really good college quarterbacks. Nuss Meyer's okay,
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: it's just not the guys we thought. Drew Aller to me,
[1:01:38] Speaker 1: isn't a first round quarterback. I don't feel it. I
[1:01:40] Speaker 1: don't think he has the jew. Some of it was coaching.
[1:01:43] Speaker 1: Cave Kludnik is actually like Jackson Dart. He can actually move,
[1:01:48] Speaker 1: He's got a decent arm, He's talented. I don't know
[1:01:51] Speaker 1: how I feel about him. But I was sitting there
[1:01:54] Speaker 1: looking at the mock draft last Friday before I did
[1:01:56] Speaker 1: the Herd. It's the same teams, you know, It's all
[1:01:58] Speaker 1: the same kind of teams. And I really do think
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: I was watched a lot of college football the last
[1:02:08] Speaker 1: three weeks. Ohio State's the only great team I think
[1:02:14] Speaker 1: Indiana Bama, and I'm gonna say Notre Dame. So Notre Dame.
[1:02:19] Speaker 1: I predicted they'd win by ten and run the ball
[1:02:21] Speaker 1: because I and they did. I think Notre Dame's good.
[1:02:24] Speaker 1: I don't think they're great, but I don't think any
[1:02:26] Speaker 1: of it. I don't think Ohio State's great. I think
[1:02:28] Speaker 1: Ohio State's defense is great. I think Carnell Tate the receiver,
[1:02:34] Speaker 1: is a sensational player. Like the NFL, I think there's
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: one really special team and then it's just a bunch
[1:02:40] Speaker 1: of good. But I think I was watching Marcus Freeman
[1:02:47] Speaker 1: and his agent texted me because I said, you have
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: to pay Marcus Freeman whatever the market bears. You can't
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: let him go. Notre Dame is a better job to
[1:02:53] Speaker 1: me than Penn State. But Marcus Freeman is what a
[1:02:56] Speaker 1: college coach should be today. Young, handsome, energetic recruiter, smart,
[1:03:01] Speaker 1: just like to tough. He's tough like his teams. But
[1:03:05] Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you. I said years ago Nebraska's done,
[1:03:14] Speaker 1: and I think they are. I'm surprised at how good
[1:03:18] Speaker 1: Notre Dame is. I think Notre Dame can go toe.
[1:03:20] Speaker 1: I think Notre Dame is one of the few teams
[1:03:22] Speaker 1: that can go toe to toe with Ohio State. I
[1:03:24] Speaker 1: think they have the quarterback. I think they have the
[1:03:25] Speaker 1: run game. I think they have the intelligence. It's not
[1:03:29] Speaker 1: just that they beat USC, but I mean they ran
[1:03:31] Speaker 1: at will against USC. They looked really impressive. All right.
[1:03:37] Speaker 1: I mean, Marcus Freeman, do you stay at Notre Dame?
[1:03:41] Speaker 1: Because I think he's I don't think there's a job
[1:03:44] Speaker 1: in college he would leave for. I think he stays
[1:03:47] Speaker 1: forever at Notre Dame. But I watch him and I'm like,
[1:03:50] Speaker 1: I listened to him. I watch him, I follow their recruiting.
[1:03:54] Speaker 1: I think he's the next college guy to go pro.
[1:03:58] Speaker 2: Yeah. To me, the only job I would leave him
[1:04:00] Speaker 2: would be Ohio States, where he played. Uh, you're not
[1:04:02] Speaker 2: leaving Notre Dame for Penn State. I mean you were
[1:04:05] Speaker 2: just in the National championship game. They're gonna make the
[1:04:06] Speaker 2: playoffs again, like they're going to run the table. Yes,
[1:04:09] Speaker 2: and they are. They have probably the best running back
[1:04:12] Speaker 2: combo in the league. I mean, how good that George
[1:04:14] Speaker 2: Jeremiah Love is just but but the backup that had
[1:04:17] Speaker 2: the big kickoff return is a stud too.
[1:04:21] Speaker 1: He's that good.
[1:04:22] Speaker 2: I think he might go if if if Ashton Jenty
[1:04:26] Speaker 2: can go six, he can go in the top ten.
[1:04:28] Speaker 2: For sure. Here's the thing. At an academic power, you
[1:04:31] Speaker 2: can build it. And Brian Kelly did this, you know,
[1:04:34] Speaker 2: dominate the offensive line, dominate the running backs, and dominate
[1:04:38] Speaker 2: the defensive personnel. And that's how they're there, That's how
[1:04:41] Speaker 2: they're built, and that translates, especially now these playoff games
[1:04:45] Speaker 2: are in the first round, which they're always going to
[1:04:47] Speaker 2: have to play because they're probably not going to get
[1:04:48] Speaker 2: a buye. Well, they're definitely not this year, cold environment. Well,
[1:04:52] Speaker 2: what translates. They're running the ball, playing defense. Yeah, I
[1:04:55] Speaker 2: actually thought USC was pretty impressive. You know, I didn't
[1:04:59] Speaker 2: expect them to be that close as they were, and
[1:05:01] Speaker 2: they had the lead at one point before the kid
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: returned it to the house. But yeah, I mean I
[1:05:05] Speaker 2: think I also think it's really really difficult to judge
[1:05:09] Speaker 2: these teams now and look at Georgia. Georgia couldn't stop
[1:05:13] Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin for three quarters every single drive touchdown, touchdown, touchdown.
[1:05:17] Speaker 2: The day and age of these dominant teams going back
[1:05:20] Speaker 2: to Pete carroll A or Urban Meyer and Knicks, they're done.
[1:05:23] Speaker 2: The transfer portal, even a good backup, and you like
[1:05:26] Speaker 2: the coach, you just leave. So I think we got
[1:05:28] Speaker 2: to look at it a little bit differently. But that's
[1:05:30] Speaker 2: what's fun about this. You now, like Miami, you have
[1:05:34] Speaker 2: no chance to win a national championship with Carson beck
[1:05:36] Speaker 2: As you're starting quarterback right now? Can they win a
[1:05:38] Speaker 2: playoff game? It's their talent for sure? Are they gonna
[1:05:41] Speaker 2: win three straight playoff games with that guy playing quarterback?
[1:05:43] Speaker 2: Did you see his comments after the game? He's pointing
[1:05:45] Speaker 2: the finger at other people. That's the type stuff like
[1:05:48] Speaker 2: that's not flying at Georgia that Kirby Smart would that
[1:05:50] Speaker 2: would not fly with Marcus Freeman. Saban would have had
[1:05:53] Speaker 2: a conniption. I bet Mario's not happy about those comments.
[1:05:55] Speaker 2: But you buy a guy, you pay him, what's seven
[1:05:58] Speaker 2: million dollars in free agency, he say whatever he wants.
[1:06:02] Speaker 2: And that's where I think, like the culture at Notre Dame,
[1:06:04] Speaker 2: like they started owing too. But you know what, it
[1:06:06] Speaker 2: turns out they lost two pretty good teams. It wasn't
[1:06:08] Speaker 2: the end of the year. And that's what this playoff
[1:06:10] Speaker 2: thing it doesn't you know, back not that many years ago,
[1:06:13] Speaker 2: you lost one game and it was over. Now it's
[1:06:15] Speaker 2: a little more fun and it's the regular season. I
[1:06:18] Speaker 2: don't know, to you, it still feels as powerful as ever.
[1:06:21] Speaker 1: No, I mean I watch all the games. I never
[1:06:25] Speaker 1: bought into that the sky is falling. Nonsense. The bottom
[1:06:28] Speaker 1: line is the portal has really helped the rest of
[1:06:30] Speaker 1: the country because it was lobsided. The SEC had backup
[1:06:33] Speaker 1: corners that were better than everybody else's starters. Well, you
[1:06:36] Speaker 1: know Georgia and Bama. Now Bama's struggling to keep up
[1:06:39] Speaker 1: in the Nile. They don't have the money I mean
[1:06:42] Speaker 1: fans to chip in.
[1:06:43] Speaker 2: One theory I have and I wrote this down yesterday. Vanderbilt,
[1:06:47] Speaker 2: I mean Brian Kelly. He has been passed now by
[1:06:49] Speaker 2: Ole Miss and now Vanderbilt like Vanderbilt work them. That
[1:06:53] Speaker 2: was a lopsided game. The score does not reflect what
[1:06:55] Speaker 2: I watched. Nashville. Is your daughter still live in Nashville?
[1:06:59] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[1:06:59] Speaker 2: Booming city, I mean money is flowing there. Scottsdale, ASU
[1:07:03] Speaker 2: just beat Texas Tech, who has a twenty eight million
[1:07:05] Speaker 2: dollar These cities that are booming before you need a booster,
[1:07:09] Speaker 2: and you still do.
[1:07:09] Speaker 1: Right.
[1:07:09] Speaker 2: If you're Texas Tech, you got this billionaire. If you're Oregon,
[1:07:12] Speaker 2: you got this billionaire, but not all these universities are
[1:07:15] Speaker 2: just gonna have billionaire. Sometimes you're just gonna need Scottsdale
[1:07:18] Speaker 2: has all these corporations moving here, so the athletic department
[1:07:21] Speaker 2: might not have individuals, But what if I can go
[1:07:23] Speaker 2: to corporations and get them to be part of the program.
[1:07:26] Speaker 2: So it's like Carvana or door Dash or whoever. In Nashville,
[1:07:29] Speaker 2: all these hubs, you can start going to them, They're
[1:07:32] Speaker 2: gonna want to be involved in football. It's an advantage
[1:07:34] Speaker 2: to be usc these big cities. Like how is some
[1:07:39] Speaker 2: of these po done places. It's gonna be a little difficult.
[1:07:42] Speaker 2: I'm watching. Well, yeah, the school in Nashville is gonna
[1:07:45] Speaker 2: have advantages that Baton Rouge in the NIL is simply
[1:07:49] Speaker 2: not gonna have undeniable So like Ohio State a little
[1:07:53] Speaker 2: bit of an outlier some of these big ten schools,
[1:07:55] Speaker 2: but some of these SEC schools, like watch out for
[1:07:58] Speaker 2: Vanderbilt because they're gonna have money flowing into their program.
[1:08:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I made this prediction three years ago,
[1:08:03] Speaker 1: and it may have been offensive, but I said, in
[1:08:06] Speaker 1: these small southern towns, sometimes you're number two. Booster is
[1:08:09] Speaker 1: a car dealer and There's nothing wrong with being a
[1:08:13] Speaker 1: BMW dealer. I own a BMW. I love BMW, but
[1:08:16] Speaker 1: that shouldn't be your second richest donor if you're a
[1:08:20] Speaker 1: top eight college football program, it should be like you know,
[1:08:23] Speaker 1: I mean at Michigan they have multiple billionaires and venture capitalists,
[1:08:28] Speaker 1: and the Big ten schools are bigger. They're just bigger universities,
[1:08:31] Speaker 1: and they flood the zone and then they circle back
[1:08:34] Speaker 1: to their program. So this is something I said three
[1:08:36] Speaker 1: years ago. It's one of the things I thought that
[1:08:40] Speaker 1: would save the Pac twelve. It didn't, but I thought
[1:08:42] Speaker 1: it would. Is the explosion of the nil because of
[1:08:45] Speaker 1: all the Apple and Google Pac twelve kids. But the
[1:08:49] Speaker 1: truth is those aren't sports fans. They don't care about football.
[1:08:52] Speaker 1: So a lot of those USC UCLA grads, you know,
[1:08:56] Speaker 1: they don't give back to the program. But the Big
[1:08:57] Speaker 1: Ten Andrew.
[1:08:58] Speaker 2: Andrew Locke got fifty million dollar from a guy, Like
[1:09:00] Speaker 2: how many schools just have a guy that could just
[1:09:02] Speaker 2: hand you fifty millions?
[1:09:03] Speaker 1: Insane? By the way, Stanford beat Florida State. Want a win,
[1:09:09] Speaker 1: It's crazy? Okay, I want to wrap with this. So
[1:09:13] Speaker 1: I always thought the greatest athlete, not the most dominant.
[1:09:16] Speaker 1: Serena is probably the most dominant, or Michael Phelps and
[1:09:20] Speaker 1: swimming is the most dominant. Usain Bolt. But the greatest
[1:09:23] Speaker 1: athlete I thought I had ever seen was a guy
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: named Carl Lewis. So Carl Lewis was in track and field.
[1:09:28] Speaker 1: He was a very unique personality, not really appealing to
[1:09:30] Speaker 1: the masses, I guess. But in nineteen eighty four he
[1:09:33] Speaker 1: goes to the LA Olympics and he wins the one
[1:09:35] Speaker 1: hundred meters, the two hundred meter, the long jump, I mean,
[1:09:38] Speaker 1: winning any of those sensational. He wins all of them,
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: and he win's a four by one hundred, so he
[1:09:43] Speaker 1: wins like four golds. Then he goes to Soul in
[1:09:45] Speaker 1: eighty eight and he mostly duplicates it. Then he goes
[1:09:47] Speaker 1: to Barcelona in ninety two and he mostly duplicates it.
[1:09:50] Speaker 1: And forget the PanAm Games or the Goodwill Games, or
[1:09:54] Speaker 1: the World Championships in Tokyo and Helsinki and Stuttegarten, Rome
[1:09:57] Speaker 1: or wherever they are. Then he comes back to it
[1:10:00] Speaker 1: in ninety six, starts in eighty four ninety six. I
[1:10:04] Speaker 1: mean there was just like a twelve year period. It
[1:10:07] Speaker 1: was pan Am, Goodwill World Championship's, Olympics. He was dominated
[1:10:12] Speaker 1: in everything. And then I'm watching Otani Friday, and I'm like,
[1:10:16] Speaker 1: Babe Ruth did not pitch and hit simultaneously. And remember
[1:10:21] Speaker 1: the split finger fastball kind of came into baseball in
[1:10:25] Speaker 1: the seventies or eighties with Bruce Souiter. Remember Bruce Suery
[1:10:27] Speaker 1: pitched for the Cardinals and Cubs. He was a relief pitcher.
[1:10:29] Speaker 1: He want to sigy up and he was a He
[1:10:32] Speaker 1: was the first guy to throw a split finger fastball.
[1:10:34] Speaker 1: Babe Ruth didn't face that stuff that those guys in
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: the twenties and thirties and forties fifties, they weren't facing
[1:10:40] Speaker 1: split finger fastball. For Otani to walk into this sport,
[1:10:43] Speaker 1: to be a power hitter, to have that speed to
[1:10:48] Speaker 1: hit for average, to be a dominant ace, he may
[1:10:51] Speaker 1: have one of the top five splitters in baseball. His fastball,
[1:10:55] Speaker 1: he punches out Jackson Curio in the first inning at
[1:10:57] Speaker 1: one hundred. All of his off speed ranking stuff is
[1:11:00] Speaker 1: above average. It's very good. Then he hits it out
[1:11:03] Speaker 1: of the stadium. But I was sitting there watching and
[1:11:05] Speaker 1: I'm like, I think, how good Reggie Jackson was? I mean,
[1:11:09] Speaker 1: Reggie Jackson was World Series MVP's iconic five hundred and
[1:11:14] Speaker 1: fifty plus home runs. Reggie Jackson was a terrible fielder,
[1:11:17] Speaker 1: didn't run the bases, not a good teammate. I think
[1:11:21] Speaker 1: o Toanni is the greatest athlete I've ever seen. I mean,
[1:11:24] Speaker 1: Michael Jordan wasn't a great passer, he wasn't a great
[1:11:27] Speaker 1: deep ball shooter. He was a great offensive, mid range player,
[1:11:31] Speaker 1: rest relentless, and a great on ball defender. But I'm
[1:11:35] Speaker 1: watching Otani and I'm like, he's a top top eight pitcher.
[1:11:42] Speaker 1: I mean, he's a top base stealer when he wants to.
[1:11:46] Speaker 1: I just I sat there watching and I'm like Jesus
[1:11:49] Speaker 1: to just be an elite pitcher. Hell, guys can't stay healthy.
[1:11:55] Speaker 1: Snell Glass, no Dodgers, nobody can stay healthy. I just
[1:12:00] Speaker 1: watching that game, I thought, this is the greatest single
[1:12:02] Speaker 1: athlete I've ever seen in any sport. That was my
[1:12:05] Speaker 1: take on it.
[1:12:05] Speaker 2: Well, it's definitely the greatest game that's ever been played.
[1:12:08] Speaker 2: Ten strikeouts, three home runs in the NLCS, Like, that's
[1:12:11] Speaker 2: something you see the kid in the Little League that's
[1:12:12] Speaker 2: going to be on all the travel teams. That's twelve
[1:12:14] Speaker 2: years old. You wouldn't even you'd be hard pressed to
[1:12:17] Speaker 2: find that in high school, you know. I think LA
[1:12:20] Speaker 2: this year had a couple guys that were drafted in
[1:12:22] Speaker 2: the top ten, like high school players. I would be
[1:12:25] Speaker 2: shocked because typically now that they focus on one, they're
[1:12:28] Speaker 2: not playing both ways. So the guys in the league pitcher,
[1:12:30] Speaker 2: he's just pitching, if the guys in the league hit,
[1:12:32] Speaker 2: or he's just playing shortstop. I vividly remember when he
[1:12:36] Speaker 2: first started playing for Anaheim, because you had heard all
[1:12:38] Speaker 2: this hype and the Giants tried to sign him coming
[1:12:40] Speaker 2: out of Japan. I didn't realize how tall and fast
[1:12:42] Speaker 2: he was. And I remember, like a ball that most
[1:12:45] Speaker 2: power hitters do not make it a second. He not
[1:12:48] Speaker 2: only made it a second, he was there with ease,
[1:12:49] Speaker 2: and you went, holy shit, But you see that, guys.
[1:12:53] Speaker 2: If Shoheo Tani was born in Los Angeles or Dallas,
[1:12:55] Speaker 2: Texas or something, he's probably a quarterback right potentially, he's
[1:13:00] Speaker 2: six foot five, two hundred and ten pounds. He's definitely
[1:13:03] Speaker 2: playing a lot of different sports growing up. Who knows,
[1:13:06] Speaker 2: maybe basketball as well. I mean maybe because he's athletically
[1:13:09] Speaker 2: he's an elite athlete. Yes, you know you watch the Yankees,
[1:13:13] Speaker 2: it's like all their players look the same. You watched
[1:13:15] Speaker 2: the I remember two years ago going to a spring
[1:13:18] Speaker 2: training game with Maria and we had really good seats
[1:13:22] Speaker 2: and I was like, I thought, Mookie Betts is an
[1:13:23] Speaker 2: outfielder and he's playing short and second base. I'm like,
[1:13:26] Speaker 2: this is insane. It's like this guy I thought. I
[1:13:29] Speaker 2: thought he played like right field in centerfield, he can
[1:13:31] Speaker 2: play shortstop and he had to play in this series.
[1:13:34] Speaker 2: Then it was like Derek Jeter is like, so they're
[1:13:36] Speaker 2: two best players. And I saw, you know, Matt Muney Smith,
[1:13:40] Speaker 2: he had charger games with him and DJ came down.
[1:13:44] Speaker 2: I played golf with them like last year. But I
[1:13:45] Speaker 2: saw this clip that he posted interviewing Andrew Friedman and
[1:13:48] Speaker 2: he's like, what do you say to everyone saying you
[1:13:50] Speaker 2: just bought this team? And He's like, we play all
[1:13:53] Speaker 2: these teams that have all these star player players, and
[1:13:56] Speaker 2: I see none of them out early. You know, three
[1:13:59] Speaker 2: o'clock in the afternoon. You come out and you watch
[1:14:01] Speaker 2: the Dodgers, Mookie Bett, Shoeo, all of our star players,
[1:14:04] Speaker 2: Freddie Freeman are doing extra work, like Peyton Manning, Tom
[1:14:08] Speaker 2: Brady tiger Wood style. So it's like this isn't random
[1:14:11] Speaker 2: their greatness. Obviously they have freak talents, but like clearly
[1:14:17] Speaker 2: from a team building standpoint, like really they they kind
[1:14:20] Speaker 2: of got like a Patriot vibe going, like they're all
[1:14:23] Speaker 2: just it's like, this is a serious group. Now. Obviously
[1:14:26] Speaker 2: show hey, you know, because he didn't pitch that well
[1:14:28] Speaker 2: this year, no Granny was coming back off the injury.
[1:14:30] Speaker 2: But he's got a pitch like that and hit like that.
[1:14:32] Speaker 2: It's like there's never been that home run. Listen, I'm
[1:14:36] Speaker 2: a Barry I'm a Giants fan at heart. That's a
[1:14:39] Speaker 2: Barry Bonds level home run on the cream and the
[1:14:41] Speaker 2: clear with Balco, right, I mean, that's that was That
[1:14:45] Speaker 2: was insane. How far that ball you can see it?
[1:14:47] Speaker 2: Do you remember when Barry hit the ball against Anaheim
[1:14:50] Speaker 2: in the two World Series and I think Tim Salmon
[1:14:53] Speaker 2: was in the it was in the dugout and he mouthed,
[1:14:56] Speaker 2: that's the farthest ball I've ever seen hit. Obviously, you
[1:14:58] Speaker 2: know Barry was kind of a mutant by then. The
[1:15:00] Speaker 2: Dodgers faces in the dugout all kind of had that vibe.
[1:15:03] Speaker 2: I know, we've never seen a ball hit this far.
[1:15:05] Speaker 1: Ever, Yeah, it's it's just remarkable to watch him. And
[1:15:10] Speaker 1: you know I've said this, I think the Dodgers are
[1:15:12] Speaker 1: the best run organization in North America. Max Munsey, the
[1:15:16] Speaker 1: A's cut him. I mean, Tommy Edmund was a two
[1:15:20] Speaker 1: sixty hitter in Saint Louis. He was a good fielder.
[1:15:22] Speaker 1: Cardinals were like, we don't want to pay him. He
[1:15:24] Speaker 1: was the NLCS MVP. I mean, Glassno's always had good
[1:15:28] Speaker 1: stuff six seven, but he can't stay healthy. So let mean,
[1:15:31] Speaker 1: there's no question they can roll what the Dodgers biggest
[1:15:34] Speaker 1: advantage isn't just like oh Otani because other teams could
[1:15:38] Speaker 1: have paid for him, but great players want to play
[1:15:40] Speaker 1: for the Dodgers. Because Otani comes up I five to
[1:15:44] Speaker 1: the Dodgers, he has better people hitting in front of
[1:15:46] Speaker 1: him and behind him, and the pressure isn't for him
[1:15:49] Speaker 1: to go four for four. Oh Tani had a terrible
[1:15:51] Speaker 1: series until that game Friday. He couldn't get So I
[1:15:55] Speaker 1: think it's it's like one of these things. There's a
[1:15:57] Speaker 1: reason five star players want to go play for Ohio
[1:16:00] Speaker 1: State or Georgia because you're surrounded by better players, right,
[1:16:04] Speaker 1: And it's like that if you're a great like Freddie
[1:16:06] Speaker 1: Freeman was playing for Atlanta, but it's like, look who's
[1:16:08] Speaker 1: hitting in front of me, Look who's hitting behind me?
[1:16:10] Speaker 1: You get better pitches.
[1:16:12] Speaker 2: Well, I would say this, you would say Otani and
[1:16:14] Speaker 2: Mookie Betts. You know, Manny and Poppy were incredible power
[1:16:19] Speaker 2: but neither of them could run. I mean it's got
[1:16:21] Speaker 2: to be when you talk about all around game, the
[1:16:23] Speaker 2: two most talented players that have ever played together, I mean,
[1:16:27] Speaker 2: how do you beat that? Offensively and defensively. You've seen
[1:16:29] Speaker 2: a lot of these duos one to just mash. I
[1:16:32] Speaker 2: bet you know Mannel and Garrig if we go back
