[0:01] Speaker 1: The volume.
[0:07] Speaker 2: Can I ask you a question? Sure, yeah, go ahead,
[0:11] Speaker 2: after this year, take this year out of it. This
[0:14] Speaker 2: group of quarterbacks, the Mahomes, Alan Burrow, Lamar, that group,
[0:21] Speaker 2: they're all twenty eight to twenty nine. Let's say optimistically
[0:27] Speaker 2: they all have ten more good years. That's probably on
[0:31] Speaker 2: the high end, but let's give them a decade, ten
[0:34] Speaker 2: more seasons. The twenty twenty five season onward Man, at
[0:40] Speaker 2: least one of those guys is never making much less
[0:47] Speaker 2: winning a super Bowl. Like, moving forward, so I know
[0:50] Speaker 2: Joe's already made what because here's the way I was
[0:52] Speaker 2: thinking about it. I'm like, okay, because everyone's like, do
[0:54] Speaker 2: you think Josh will eventually get one? And intellectually I'm like, yes,
[0:58] Speaker 2: of course, he's the second best player in the league.
[1:00] Speaker 2: Of course he'll get one. But then I'm like, well,
[1:02] Speaker 2: wait a minute. Okay, So in the next ten years,
[1:06] Speaker 2: let's say Patrick slows down, he only makes four.
[1:10] Speaker 1: Of the Andy Reid retires.
[1:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, so let's just say, let's say Patrick only makes
[1:16] Speaker 2: four of the next ten, so there's six. So that's
[1:20] Speaker 2: six for Lamar, Josh, Joe. I know you've got Justin
[1:26] Speaker 2: Herbert getting the one eventually. Bo nix CJ. Stroud and
[1:31] Speaker 2: we're talking about ten years, so it'll tell you a
[1:34] Speaker 2: couple more generations coming into the league like these guys.
[1:37] Speaker 2: All of these guys being in the AFC is devastating
[1:41] Speaker 2: for the resumes they're trying to build well.
[1:45] Speaker 1: And the one that's in trouble is Joe Burrow. The
[1:48] Speaker 1: Bengals had to sell naming rights to the stadium to
[1:52] Speaker 1: pay his contract. People don't understand this. The gentleman who
[1:56] Speaker 1: first of all, the Bengals don't have any money. They
[1:58] Speaker 1: don't have any money. It's just like the poorest ownership group.
[2:01] Speaker 1: Joe Burrow knows it. They had to sell naming rights
[2:03] Speaker 1: to a stadium to pay him. They started peeling off
[2:06] Speaker 1: players even before they paid Jamar Chase. They're peeling off
[2:10] Speaker 1: of them now.
[2:10] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and they're already peeling off players.
[2:15] Speaker 1: They are the opposite of the Eagles. They are anti
[2:20] Speaker 1: risk and reward. They take no risks. Tobin, the general manager,
[2:25] Speaker 1: has been there forever pleasant, very nice guy, got no power.
[2:29] Speaker 1: I mean, the Brown family runs the organization. They are
[2:32] Speaker 1: essentially a triple A operation in Major League Baseball that
[2:36] Speaker 1: happens to have Joe Burrow. People make fun of the Raiders.
[2:41] Speaker 1: The Raiders, because of some new ownership groups that have
[2:43] Speaker 1: come in, are flushed with cash. That's why they can
[2:46] Speaker 1: pay four coaches and three general managers. They got nothing
[2:48] Speaker 1: but money. They got Mark Davis has nothing but money
[2:51] Speaker 1: and the Raiders are a brand. And also it's Las Vegas.
[2:54] Speaker 1: It's a growing city. There's real money there, no state tax,
[2:57] Speaker 1: very attractive place. Cincinnati, they got no money. Burrow, They'll
[3:03] Speaker 1: never have a stacked roster. The only time to really
[3:07] Speaker 1: be great with him was when he was on the
[3:08] Speaker 1: rookie contract. When they pay Jamar Chase, they're out of money,
[3:11] Speaker 1: like Joe Burrow, I feel terrible for him. Joe Burrow
[3:14] Speaker 1: would need to be superhuman. I mean, this year he
[3:18] Speaker 1: was as good as he's ever been. They couldn't make
[3:21] Speaker 1: the playoffs. Layers. Herbert's gonna get better with Harbaugh.
[3:24] Speaker 2: Like that's going to only get better.
[3:26] Speaker 1: Right, That's what I'm saying, Like, you're just Herbert, and
[3:29] Speaker 1: I think Burrow is the one in trouble.
[3:31] Speaker 2: And here's the other. Here's the other concern for all
[3:35] Speaker 2: those guys. Will they may be different for Joe because
[3:40] Speaker 2: he's done it, But will those guys be able to
[3:48] Speaker 2: play Patrick Mahomes beat him, which is part of the hypothetical,
[3:53] Speaker 2: and then psychologically be able to recenter and be like,
[3:57] Speaker 2: that wasn't the super Bowl? Not like we like, that's
[4:01] Speaker 2: the thing that I would worry about for the Bills.
[4:05] Speaker 2: Not I do think Listen, Mahomes is not going to
[4:07] Speaker 2: go undefeated against Allen in his career. In the playoffs,
[4:10] Speaker 2: they will win. But man, if next year the Bills
[4:15] Speaker 2: finally beat the Chiefs in the playoffs, it's gonna be
[4:19] Speaker 2: really hard to psychologically then reset and be like, actually,
[4:25] Speaker 2: the next game is the tougher, bigger one, And so
[4:28] Speaker 2: that's the we have never I can't remember a time
[4:33] Speaker 2: when it felt this disproportionate in quarterbacking talent conference to
[4:39] Speaker 2: conference and what it's going to mean for these guys
[4:43] Speaker 2: kind of legacies when it comes to who they were
[4:46] Speaker 2: as far as winning players or winning championships.
[4:51] Speaker 1: You know, I love experimenting on podcasting. I like talking
[4:56] Speaker 1: about stuff where stuff is going and where it's.
[5:02] Speaker 2: What I.
[5:05] Speaker 1: What I find interesting about where sports is going. So
[5:10] Speaker 1: I have I think we both like this. So I
[5:19] Speaker 1: grew up a baseball fan, but the sport it's like
[5:23] Speaker 1: what Democrats name like Bill Maher will say the Democratic
[5:26] Speaker 1: Party is leaving me. I haven't changed. I was a
[5:29] Speaker 1: baseball guy over a football guy when I was a kid,
[5:31] Speaker 1: and then the sport just got slow and ponderous and
[5:35] Speaker 1: football was just better on television. And I've lived through
[5:37] Speaker 1: TV like that's my life as a kid. I'm going
[5:43] Speaker 1: to throw something at you that I think is going
[5:44] Speaker 1: to happen. Is that I think if you take out
[5:47] Speaker 1: the NFL, that every other sport is dependent on where
[5:54] Speaker 1: the best players play, and it does not help. For instance,
[5:58] Speaker 1: college football got to southern and two regional Alabama, Georgia, Clemson.
[6:03] Speaker 1: It hurt the sport. Michigan and Ohio State's emergence will
[6:07] Speaker 1: help the sport over time. It will bring a big group.
[6:11] Speaker 1: I'm a West Coast guy. I was a Big ten
[6:13] Speaker 1: Pac twelve guy because the Rose Bowl. So I'm more
[6:15] Speaker 1: of a Big ten guy than an SEC guy, although
[6:18] Speaker 1: I can acknowledge the SEC's great. I think we're going
[6:21] Speaker 1: to have a change here in the next five to
[6:22] Speaker 1: ten years in sports. And that is when the regional
[6:27] Speaker 1: sports networks went away and Fox let them go. They
[6:32] Speaker 1: were out of money an hour later, and those were
[6:36] Speaker 1: vital to Pittsburgh's, Cincinnati, Oakland, Kansas City, Seattle, they were vital.
[6:41] Speaker 1: Sure the sport now is basically in the hands of
[6:46] Speaker 1: the Dodgers Steve Cohen, And I mean, I'm not sure
[6:51] Speaker 1: the Yankees and the Steinbrenners can compete. Steinbrenners are saying
[6:55] Speaker 1: they can't. What you're seeing now in baseball is all
[7:00] Speaker 1: the riveting players play for the Dodgers, the Phillies, the
[7:05] Speaker 1: Mets or the Yankees. And I think we're gonna have
[7:08] Speaker 1: a renaissance in baseball is that with these regional networks gone.
[7:13] Speaker 1: There's not even the forget the fake appearance that there's parody.
[7:20] Speaker 1: There are like four kings at the top. Everything else
[7:23] Speaker 1: is upon nothing else. I mean, you think that's good
[7:26] Speaker 1: for the sport. No, No, what I think it's good
[7:29] Speaker 1: for is the primary weakness of baseball. It's television ratings.
[7:34] Speaker 1: The attendance is fine, it's always dominated the summer. It
[7:37] Speaker 1: has died on television. Last year's National League playoffs, it
[7:42] Speaker 1: was like New York, La San Diego and eight of
[7:46] Speaker 1: the best thirteen players in the sport. And that we
[7:49] Speaker 1: always think parody matters, No, it doesn't. The truth of
[7:55] Speaker 1: The matter is if the Celtics, Chicago, Bulls, and the
[7:59] Speaker 1: Lakers were great right now, the NBA would be in
[8:02] Speaker 1: great shape. Oklahoma City is not good for the league.
[8:05] Speaker 1: There is this belief. This is where I always say
[8:08] Speaker 1: about Kansas City. Dynasties aren't bad. Great players on great
[8:12] Speaker 1: brands are not bad for the league. I think we're
[8:15] Speaker 1: gonna have a renaissance. I think the Dodgers, Steve Conan,
[8:18] Speaker 1: the Mets, the Yankees, and maybe one other team will
[8:21] Speaker 1: not be able to afford the best players. That that's
[8:24] Speaker 1: at Philadelphia, maybe Phillies because their attendants and their merchandising
[8:27] Speaker 1: is so strong. I don't know about their TV radio
[8:29] Speaker 1: deals locally. Is that I think baseball has something the
[8:34] Speaker 1: NBA doesn't. All they're fascinating players. I mean, if I
[8:37] Speaker 1: told you this, the six big TV products they have Otani, Judge,
[8:42] Speaker 1: Bryce Harper, Mookie Betts.
[8:45] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's all Manny Machado, ted titit.
[8:47] Speaker 1: They're all in the big They're all in these big, glossy,
[8:51] Speaker 1: favorable markets. There's my take is that we're going to
[8:53] Speaker 1: have a renaissance, that baseball is going to come storming back.
[8:56] Speaker 1: It did in the postseason.
[8:58] Speaker 2: So I think this year is the most important your
[9:02] Speaker 2: baseball's had in a very very long time because of
[9:05] Speaker 2: two things, and you kind of alluded to both of them.
[9:08] Speaker 2: One is the momentum of last postseason, which is absolutely tremendous,
[9:15] Speaker 2: and the other is the general angst an annoyance by
[9:20] Speaker 2: the average fan towards the NBA. Yeah, I think that
[9:25] Speaker 2: it is incumbent upon baseball two and I don't have
[9:29] Speaker 2: a listen. I haven't spent a lot of time thinking
[9:31] Speaker 2: about this, so I don't even know exactly what I
[9:33] Speaker 2: mean by this, but to seize this moment because I
[9:38] Speaker 2: agree with you. I mean, we did our show from
[9:41] Speaker 2: the World Series. Now that's because it was in New
[9:44] Speaker 2: York so it was easy to get to, but also
[9:46] Speaker 2: because we were all.
[9:47] Speaker 1: So into it. It was great.
[9:50] Speaker 2: It felt like such a cool event and it was.
[9:53] Speaker 2: It was so lively and active, and it made me
[9:57] Speaker 2: remember when you know, and when when I first started,
[10:02] Speaker 2: it was shortly after when you first started, was before
[10:04] Speaker 2: I even had a show. We were doing our shows
[10:08] Speaker 2: from the NBA Finals, even though they were not in LA.
[10:12] Speaker 2: It was Warriors Calves every year, and we traveled to
[10:18] Speaker 2: Cleveland to do our shows because it was such an
[10:22] Speaker 2: event that I think baseball. So I was talking to
[10:27] Speaker 2: a mutual friend of ours. I don't think you'll mind
[10:30] Speaker 2: me saying this, so I'll just yeah, I'll quote him
[10:33] Speaker 2: on it, our friend Maverick, and he said that the
[10:40] Speaker 2: media is moving towards an events model where things have
[10:47] Speaker 2: to feel like an event. And it's why even though
[10:53] Speaker 2: Mike Tyson's sixty years old and could barely get to
[10:56] Speaker 2: the ring, that was huge, it felt. And the NFL
[11:03] Speaker 2: every game feels like an event. You'll have the college
[11:07] Speaker 2: football playoff playoff is exactly UFC feels is an event.
[11:14] Speaker 2: And so that's really really hard for baseball. So you
[11:18] Speaker 2: know what, because there's so many games, so finding ways.
[11:23] Speaker 2: Maybe it is marketing their stars to fuck to pick
[11:27] Speaker 2: these benchmarks that are their events of the year, or
[11:33] Speaker 2: marketing matchups or games.
[11:34] Speaker 1: This is where Fox gets credit. They're the one that
[11:36] Speaker 1: came up with the London game, the game in the cornfield, so.
[11:39] Speaker 2: Well, yeah field a dreams game, one that felt big.
[11:43] Speaker 2: That's an event like something cool like that that makes
[11:47] Speaker 2: it stand out from the noise of everything else.
[11:53] Speaker 1: That's right, Yeah, I know that was Fox. Fox management
[11:55] Speaker 1: came and said, you guys need more big events and
[11:57] Speaker 1: they work. By the way, I watched the London Games,
[11:59] Speaker 1: they were cool.
[12:01] Speaker 2: The Field of Dreams game is cool every year. It's
[12:04] Speaker 2: just awesome. It looks cool. It's great.
[12:07] Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I think Maverick Carter's right on that. I
[12:09] Speaker 1: think there's a lot of reasons for that, but I
[12:11] Speaker 1: think you have to, you know, like I it's easy
[12:16] Speaker 1: to root for the Dodgers or the Chiefs. Like I
[12:18] Speaker 1: have the Dodgers on throughout the summer in Los Angeles, everybody,
[12:21] Speaker 1: every other guy that comes to the bat is an
[12:23] Speaker 1: all Star. It's like an All Star game. I mean seriously,
[12:26] Speaker 1: you get down to like Taoscar Hernandez is batting fifth,
[12:28] Speaker 1: and you're like, Jesus, he just dominated the series in
[12:31] Speaker 1: the Bronx, like everybody's great. The whole damn team is great.
[12:34] Speaker 1: Like I mean, they've got Tommy Edmund batting eighth that
[12:36] Speaker 1: he was like the NLCS MVP. You're like, it's an
[12:40] Speaker 1: all star team. So and like the Chiefs, it's easy.
[12:44] Speaker 2: One of the greatest radio shows in America and it
[12:46] Speaker 2: has now been on You'll be more impressed by this
[12:49] Speaker 2: than anyone for twenty three years. Running in the same
[12:55] Speaker 2: market is a show called The Church of Lasla and
[12:59] Speaker 2: it's on It used to be on an alternative rock station.
[13:02] Speaker 2: It's now on a regular rock station. Doesn't matter, but
[13:06] Speaker 2: their frequency just changed. But it's been this dude, Laslow
[13:11] Speaker 2: and his buddy slim Fast. I was their sports guy
[13:15] Speaker 2: for years and Laslow, I'm gonna tell a real, you know,
[13:18] Speaker 2: quick tangent.
[13:19] Speaker 1: People like it.
[13:20] Speaker 2: Laslow is to me. He was one of my mentors
[13:23] Speaker 2: in radio and just also one of the coolest stories ever.
[13:26] Speaker 2: He was from Detroit, alcoholic drug addict, went to the Navy.
[13:34] Speaker 2: I think got kicked out of the Navy because of
[13:37] Speaker 2: those two things I just mentioned. I don't again, I
[13:39] Speaker 2: might get his story something wrong. Kind of was always
[13:42] Speaker 2: a mess, always did radio and then got sober. Started
[13:47] Speaker 2: this state and is like a wild liberal on the
[13:52] Speaker 2: radio in Kansas City, Missouri, where when he started his
[13:55] Speaker 2: show every single day he would start a show by saying,
[13:59] Speaker 2: it is been X amount of days since George W.
[14:02] Speaker 2: Bush declared mission accomplished in Iraq and then went on
[14:05] Speaker 2: and he has. He's on the air to this day
[14:08] Speaker 2: because he's so talented and they're so I think it's
[14:11] Speaker 2: the funniest show in America. So say all that. So
[14:16] Speaker 2: when I first started in radio, they were down the hall.
[14:20] Speaker 2: They had actually just come back from Seattle, where they
[14:23] Speaker 2: used to be simulcast in Seattle and Kansas City, and
[14:29] Speaker 2: Laslow said to me, He's like, listen man. And this
[14:32] Speaker 2: wasn't his original theory, but he was the first person
[14:34] Speaker 2: I had heard it from. I'm like twenty four. He's like,
[14:37] Speaker 2: you gotta know what type of horse you are for
[14:39] Speaker 2: this company? Like what do you mean? He's like, there's
[14:43] Speaker 2: three horses in radio. He's like, there's the money horse,
[14:46] Speaker 2: there's the show horse, and there's the workhorse. He's like,
[14:51] Speaker 2: and you're gonna screw up if you don't know which
[14:54] Speaker 2: horse you are, Like okay, He's like the money horse
[14:58] Speaker 2: is the guy who's always gonna have a job because
[15:01] Speaker 2: all the big clients love him. He's like the car
[15:04] Speaker 2: dealership's his buddy, and this guy and so he does
[15:08] Speaker 2: all the reads because they all love him. He's safe.
[15:12] Speaker 2: He's like, the show horse is the guy who they
[15:14] Speaker 2: want to be able to put on the billboard the
[15:16] Speaker 2: name we got. He's like, he's usually like someone who
[15:20] Speaker 2: does you know a former athlete or does local TV
[15:22] Speaker 2: and they feels like a celebrity. He's like, none of
[15:26] Speaker 2: the advertisers know who the hell you are and nobody
[15:30] Speaker 2: knows your name. He's like, that just leaves the workhorse.
[15:34] Speaker 2: He's like, and that's what it sounds like. You're gonna
[15:37] Speaker 2: keep your job because you're gonna work harder than everybody.
[15:41] Speaker 2: Do you need me to pick up that shift? I
[15:43] Speaker 2: can do this, I can do that. You're also gonna work,
[15:47] Speaker 2: You're gonna know everything, like that's your path, man, And
[15:52] Speaker 2: honest to god, it's one of the most important conversations
[15:54] Speaker 2: I've ever had in my career because I was like, Okay,
[15:57] Speaker 2: that's who I'm gonna be. And he was telling me this.
[15:59] Speaker 2: He's like, you think you're the show horse. You think
[16:03] Speaker 2: like you're a b He's like, but you're not. Maybe
[16:06] Speaker 2: one day you will be, but you're not. And that
[16:10] Speaker 2: I was going to say this because Draymond recognized early on,
[16:13] Speaker 2: I'm the workhorse. I've got to do the dirty work.
[16:15] Speaker 2: I got to do all this. But the more interesting
[16:18] Speaker 2: part of it is the should or thing, which is
[16:21] Speaker 2: Shador fell in the draft because he thought he was
[16:25] Speaker 2: a show horse and teams were looking at him as
[16:29] Speaker 2: are you a workhorse? And he thought, I'm Shoudoor Sanders,
[16:34] Speaker 2: I'm interviewing you. I've got all these people competing for
[16:37] Speaker 2: my services. And they looked at it as you're should
[16:41] Speaker 2: or Sanders. Are you gonna pick up this mistake we
[16:46] Speaker 2: put in the film Are you gonna know? The playbook?
[16:48] Speaker 2: Are you gonna do this? And if you don't know
[16:51] Speaker 2: the job you're applying for, how do you nail the interview?
[16:54] Speaker 2: And so I think that is like a really it's
[16:58] Speaker 2: a really something I've carried with me forever, like poignant
[17:02] Speaker 2: piece of advice, which is it doesn't so much matter
[17:06] Speaker 2: how you view yourself. It matters in an employment setting.
[17:11] Speaker 2: It matters how your employer or potential employer views you
[17:16] Speaker 2: and are you representing that? Are you you know? And
[17:20] Speaker 2: so that I think was Shador's biggest mistake is he
[17:24] Speaker 2: didn't know what job he was interviewing for, and he
[17:27] Speaker 2: didn't know who he was to these teams, well, and
[17:36] Speaker 2: I'll throw something at you.
[17:38] Speaker 1: I one of the things why we didn't get an
[17:42] Speaker 1: honest read, because clearly Pittsburgh never viewed him. They viewed
[17:46] Speaker 1: him as Kenny Pickett. Daniel Jeremiah said that when his
[17:50] Speaker 1: intel was that they viewed him is a little better
[17:53] Speaker 1: than Kenny Pickett as a prospect. Well, Kenny Pickett by
[17:56] Speaker 1: the two gms, two of the gms in the league
[17:58] Speaker 1: that I really respect, one of them with a couple
[18:00] Speaker 1: of trophies. Kenny Pickett is a top to middle of
[18:04] Speaker 1: the third quarterback and that's exactly what he is. He's
[18:07] Speaker 1: a backup and an occasional starter if somebody gets hurt,
[18:10] Speaker 1: which is his role potentially in Cleveland. I don't think
[18:12] Speaker 1: he'll be there long, but that's his current role. So
[18:17] Speaker 1: the reason that Shadur didn't get an honest evaluation is
[18:23] Speaker 1: because Dion Sanders knows so many people in the NFL,
[18:26] Speaker 1: and he's worked at many broadcast companies, and nobody wanted
[18:29] Speaker 1: to be honest. This is what I've always said about bullies,
[18:32] Speaker 1: and Dion is not a bully. The downside to being
[18:36] Speaker 1: forceful and intimidating it in a bully is you actually
[18:39] Speaker 1: get lied to by everybody in your life because nobody
[18:44] Speaker 1: wants confrontation. People don't like it, your wife doesn't, your
[18:47] Speaker 1: kids don't. So the big brash bully, the top sales guy,
[18:52] Speaker 1: the ego maniac, Bobby Knight in his prime never got
[18:57] Speaker 1: an honest opinion because he and intimidated people. So you're
[19:01] Speaker 1: much better having relationships where you ask questions, you don't
[19:06] Speaker 1: always have an opinion where people feel free to criticize you,
[19:11] Speaker 1: and that that will give you a more honest appraisal
[19:15] Speaker 1: of who you truly are and what you need to accomplish.
[19:20] Speaker 1: Bullies get lied to more than anybody. Although they think
[19:23] Speaker 1: they're always demanding and getting the truth, the exact opposite
[19:27] Speaker 1: is true. They have visions of they're deluded to a
[19:31] Speaker 1: degree because they're always being told yes, you're right and
[19:34] Speaker 1: absolutely and all. So the other group that never gets
[19:39] Speaker 1: an honest appraisal are superstars and celebrities. You know, nobody ever,
[19:46] Speaker 1: nobody ever told George Clooney in his prime, you're not
[19:51] Speaker 1: really it's not working for me on this because he
[19:54] Speaker 1: was so big you didn't want to piss him and
[19:56] Speaker 1: his you know, it's like Leonardo DiCaprio this prime. Don't
[20:01] Speaker 1: offend him, that won't go well. And so being a superstar,
[20:04] Speaker 1: Deon's like a superstar. I mean he's doing commercials with
[20:07] Speaker 1: Nick Saban and he's a five hundred coach of Colorado.
[20:10] Speaker 1: That's all you need to know, right So, so I
[20:14] Speaker 1: think that's what hurt should door is nobody just came
[20:18] Speaker 1: out and just said and and by the way, arch
[20:21] Speaker 1: Manning may get a little bit of this too, sure
[20:26] Speaker 1: is that people are nobody's gonna come out and say,
[20:29] Speaker 1: I gotta be honest, he couldn't beat out Quinn yours.
[20:32] Speaker 1: There's a reason.
[20:33] Speaker 2: So he's okay, that's well, that's a that's a I've
[20:37] Speaker 2: just assumed arch Manning is a guaranteed top five pick.
[20:41] Speaker 2: But I so but that. But I don't know as
[20:44] Speaker 2: monchbal college football as you and and I'm not even
[20:46] Speaker 2: saying that's what you're saying. Here's the other thing. The
[20:48] Speaker 2: stor thing revealed to me, and it's not that I
[20:53] Speaker 2: needed it revealed. I it was it shined a light
[20:59] Speaker 2: on we have traded as a sports public true insiders
[21:09] Speaker 2: for instant, transactional gratification. We have valued who is going
[21:19] Speaker 2: to have this thing that was going to be announced
[21:25] Speaker 2: by the team in ninety minutes. Anyway, First over, what
[21:32] Speaker 2: is actual informational journalism, which is somebody said this, and
[21:39] Speaker 2: again I wish I could quote him, but I can't.
[21:42] Speaker 2: Journalism is publishing or uncovering information that otherwise would not
[21:49] Speaker 2: get out there. That's what it is, Like I this
[21:54] Speaker 2: story would remain hidden or fact or whatever it is.
[21:59] Speaker 2: Don van Na did a lot of that, like Seth Wickersham.
[22:02] Speaker 2: We know that people who've done it in sports simply
[22:07] Speaker 2: being the first to say this player is signing with
[22:11] Speaker 2: this team when that player signing with that team was
[22:16] Speaker 2: going to become public knowledge. No matter what is a
[22:20] Speaker 2: different I'm not saying it's not journalism. It's a different thing,
[22:24] Speaker 2: but that is the thing that we in the general
[22:29] Speaker 2: public seemingly value because that is the thing that people
[22:33] Speaker 2: get paid for and get famous for as reporters. The
[22:36] Speaker 2: only way to these days do that job really well
[22:43] Speaker 2: is to have everyone like you, which is why in
[22:49] Speaker 2: modern sports journalism, every draft pick is great, every surgery
[22:56] Speaker 2: is ahead of schedule, every MRI was better than expected,
[23:03] Speaker 2: and everything is pop positive. Every single thing is positive.
[23:08] Speaker 2: And so no the fact that none of our insiders said,
[23:17] Speaker 2: I've talked to fifteen teams and twelve of them don't
[23:23] Speaker 2: have Shador in their top fifty, like nobody had this,
[23:29] Speaker 2: nobody had like it was. It went from is he
[23:33] Speaker 2: gonna be the first pick too. Okay, it'll be cam Ward,
[23:41] Speaker 2: but then you know Shador giants Browns to oh shit,
[23:45] Speaker 2: he might slide to the Saints. And then by draft
[23:49] Speaker 2: day it was wow, what does it mean for Aaron
[23:53] Speaker 2: Rodgers because Shador could maybe be there at twenty one
[23:58] Speaker 2: and they could draft him. Yeah, the entirety of the
[24:01] Speaker 2: NFL world nobody had. He'll be very fortunate if he
[24:09] Speaker 2: is taken with the Browns or Giant second pick. Not
[24:13] Speaker 2: one person. And by the way, I'm not I obviously
[24:16] Speaker 2: didn't have it. I'm an acting like I had it,
[24:17] Speaker 2: but I'm an insider. And so I found that really
[24:22] Speaker 2: telling that man, what information are we actually getting? Like
[24:29] Speaker 2: what is the real real and are the guys who
[24:34] Speaker 2: actually have the real information like, well, I know the
[24:40] Speaker 2: truth here, but it's not worth it because it'll piss
[24:43] Speaker 2: the wrong relationships, agents, teams, whatever off. And so I
[24:48] Speaker 2: also think that what is so stunning about this and
[24:51] Speaker 2: this last thing I'll say, because I know now we're
[24:53] Speaker 2: a month old on it, it is shocking that Dion
[24:56] Speaker 2: didn't have the information either, that nobody privately told Dion.
[25:01] Speaker 1: Hey, that's hey, that's the downside, like a bully of
[25:06] Speaker 1: being a bloved.
[25:07] Speaker 2: Nobody told Dion, hey, man, get the truth. Like, listen,
[25:11] Speaker 2: maybe they're all wrong, but the league has real questions
[25:15] Speaker 2: of whether are at your son's a starter? So you
[25:18] Speaker 2: got to tell him he's got to blow their socks
[25:22] Speaker 2: off in this because Dion is. Whatever anyone thinks of Dion,
[25:26] Speaker 2: he's obviously a loving, devoted father that's undeniable. And he
[25:33] Speaker 2: just he had didn't have the information, that's right.
[25:37] Speaker 1: Think about that. Think of how many friends he has
[25:40] Speaker 1: in the NFL, and not a single person. I'm telling you,
[25:43] Speaker 1: Arch Manning, be very careful. The Mannings are American football royalty,
[25:50] Speaker 1: will it now? I will say there's a little less.
[25:53] Speaker 1: They've got their own egos. But Dion's always been over
[25:56] Speaker 1: the top. He's been He's been almost at times a
[26:00] Speaker 1: wrestling heel like he loves to, you know. And the Mannings,
[26:04] Speaker 1: you know, with Arch, he's been backing up Quinn yours,
[26:06] Speaker 1: who he's clearly better than. And they never transferred they
[26:10] Speaker 1: I mean it was so they've handled it with grace,
[26:13] Speaker 1: and I think that's the Manning's brand. But I I
[26:16] Speaker 1: this this really does go back to bullies and superstars.
[26:20] Speaker 1: You'd think they'd get the inside info. They're lied to
[26:23] Speaker 1: more than everybody else. You know who you don't lie to, Uh,
[26:28] Speaker 1: your cranky neighbor who you don't love, but you're gonna
[26:31] Speaker 1: tell him don't mow the grass at six o'clock on
[26:34] Speaker 1: a Saturday. You're gonna give him a real, honest, cranky opinion.
[26:38] Speaker 1: The people that you don't have anything to lose, like,
[26:40] Speaker 1: like just people that you don't adore, you're always willing
[26:43] Speaker 1: to say, Bro, that's not gonna work. Don't do that. Yeah,
[26:47] Speaker 1: that's hard to say to a Manning or a Dion Samders.
[26:49] Speaker 1: It's hard.
[26:50] Speaker 2: That's really interesting. You know.
[26:53] Speaker 1: Finally you got to bless Dallas cowboy fans heart. They're
[26:58] Speaker 1: so excited for George Pickens. And I was in this
[27:00] Speaker 1: today when Kyle Shanahan said, I can't make Trey Lance work.
[27:05] Speaker 1: I made Matt shab a pro bowler, Rock Purty, I
[27:08] Speaker 1: got into a Super Bowl, Garoppolo, I got to a
[27:11] Speaker 1: Super Bowl. I can't make Trey Lance work. And the
[27:14] Speaker 1: Cowboys were like, ooh, here's a fourth round pick. Okay.
[27:20] Speaker 1: When Warren Buffett says be careful with bitcoin, I'm careful
[27:25] Speaker 1: with bitcoin. When Mike Tomlin says about a receiver. Listen,
[27:31] Speaker 1: I can't make it work. Chase Claypool, ab Martavius Bryant.
[27:37] Speaker 1: I mean this goes on Yoni Johnson, if Mike Tomlin,
[27:43] Speaker 1: who is two things, great motivator and incredibly patient with
[27:48] Speaker 1: immature players. When Mike says, yeah, guys, I'm out doubt.
[27:54] Speaker 1: But Jerry, this is a personality trait. Jerry loves to save.
[28:04] Speaker 1: He loves to give people jobs that need him. Chan Gaily,
[28:07] Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy, Jason Garrett, Brian Schottenheimer. They feel like Jerry.
[28:12] Speaker 1: Jerry is saving it. He's giving a job that's not available.
[28:17] Speaker 1: McCarthy couldn't get interviews, parcels and Jimmy Johnson didn't need him.
[28:21] Speaker 1: That wore Jimmy out. Dak Prescott fourth round, he loves hey,
[28:28] Speaker 1: Tony Romol undrafted. Cowboys never draft quarterbacks in the first round.
[28:32] Speaker 1: They don't need Jerry. So when he goes and gets
[28:35] Speaker 1: George Pickens, who the reputation is out basically Tomlin, I'm out.
[28:41] Speaker 1: Jerry's like, I'm here, I'll make it work. I think
[28:47] Speaker 1: this is Jerry's wild catting oil days where he would
[28:51] Speaker 1: hunt for gems, and I think that is literally his
[28:55] Speaker 1: mindset with coaches and sometimes draft picks and play is
[29:01] Speaker 1: that he feels like Pickens He's he's the rest of
[29:05] Speaker 1: the league is out. I am in, and I don't
[29:10] Speaker 1: think long term. I think that's why the Cowboys are
[29:13] Speaker 1: where the Cowboys are currently.
[29:14] Speaker 2: And I think that George Pickens is one of the
[29:18] Speaker 2: more overrated players in the whole league. And the reason
[29:22] Speaker 2: I feel that way is because I think certain football
[29:26] Speaker 2: fans this is one of my this is one of
[29:29] Speaker 2: my favorite and kind of relatively newest take, which is
[29:35] Speaker 2: talent has become wildly overrated, and particularly particularly in the NFL. Obviously,
[29:46] Speaker 2: you need a requisite level of talent. That goes without saying, However,
[29:50] Speaker 2: this idea that talent is some cure all when this
[29:55] Speaker 2: guy has been a pain in the ass every step
[30:01] Speaker 2: of his football life. It is why he fell on
[30:03] Speaker 2: the draft. It is why you were hearing rumors about
[30:06] Speaker 2: him being available during his second year. During his third year,
[30:11] Speaker 2: he was traded here. It is the he It's you know,
[30:16] Speaker 2: when you are potentially trying to get a contract in
[30:20] Speaker 2: the offseason and your team is in the middle of
[30:23] Speaker 2: a losing streak and you show up to the Christmas
[30:28] Speaker 2: Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs ninety minutes before kickoff.
[30:33] Speaker 2: You show up three hours before your TV show, Colin,
[30:36] Speaker 2: you have two hundred and twenty of them a year.
[30:38] Speaker 2: He's got seventeen football games, and he like, you're just
[30:42] Speaker 2: not a serious person and you're not going to contribute
[30:45] Speaker 2: to winning the way your talent says you should. And
[30:51] Speaker 2: so there's that. There is also the fact that trading
[30:55] Speaker 2: a third round pick for a player with one year
[30:58] Speaker 2: left on his contract means you probably should give him
[31:04] Speaker 2: a contract extension. The only thing worse, in my opinion,
[31:08] Speaker 2: than trading a third round pick for one year of
[31:12] Speaker 2: George Pickens than letting him be a free agent, is
[31:15] Speaker 2: giving that guy fifty million guarantee. So the Cowboys put
[31:20] Speaker 2: themselves in a position where it's no win. Do we
[31:24] Speaker 2: pay this guy early when he has never he's never
[31:29] Speaker 2: been the top ten in the NFL of anything. He's like,
[31:33] Speaker 2: his career numbers are pedestrian, he's never outpaced his production,
[31:40] Speaker 2: has never outpaced his targets, and he is.
[31:46] Speaker 1: Quarterback.
[31:47] Speaker 2: A million gets unnecessary, a million problems there, so you
[31:52] Speaker 2: can't pay him. But the other thing you shouldn't do
[31:55] Speaker 2: is a smart franchise is keep trading these mid round
[31:59] Speaker 2: picks for rentals. And so I two years ago, Colin
[32:05] Speaker 2: the Chiefs ended up winning the Super Bowl. But two
[32:08] Speaker 2: years ago, when the Chiefs had nothing but drops everywhere
[32:12] Speaker 2: and the receivers couldn't do anything, Yeah, Pickens was available then,
[32:16] Speaker 2: and Wilds and Bruke couldn't believe me. I was like,
[32:18] Speaker 2: I don't want him. I was like, the Chiefs already
[32:22] Speaker 2: are on thin ice with Kadarius Tony, like they you know,
[32:25] Speaker 2: And they got They got. The Chiefs trade for Canarius Tony.
[32:29] Speaker 2: They gave up a fifth round pick. He had three
[32:32] Speaker 2: years left on his deal, and that's still Listen. He
[32:35] Speaker 2: had the amazing partner turn of the Super Bowl, but
[32:37] Speaker 2: he's still ultimately got can't get right. Guys can't get right,
[32:42] Speaker 2: and so I I'm not a Pickens guy. I also
[32:47] Speaker 2: think he's a somewhat overrated player. And I also think,
[32:51] Speaker 2: for if Mike Tomlin had a hard time keeping him
[32:56] Speaker 2: inside the lines. Brian Schottenheimer in his first year as
[33:00] Speaker 2: a head coach, how much of Brian Schottenheimer's time is
[33:03] Speaker 2: going to be about Micah's podcast and whatever the old
[33:06] Speaker 2: George Pickens did a lot of it is the.
[33:08] Speaker 1: Answer to that. Yeah, if a rehab centers like.
[33:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, we're done exactly right, it's insane.
[33:23] Speaker 1: I want to go to Baker Mayfield. I thought you
[33:25] Speaker 1: had an interesting Somebody once in the last year asked
[33:29] Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield about me and blah blah blah, and he said, well,
[33:31] Speaker 1: we're frenemies. And I think Baker knows I like him
[33:34] Speaker 1: and respect him, and he's always been nice to me.
[33:36] Speaker 1: He said nice things publicly. You had to take the
[33:38] Speaker 1: other day that he's actually he was over discussed when
[33:41] Speaker 1: he was in Cleveland. He's now under discussed. Yeah, And
[33:44] Speaker 1: it's it's funny because I think Baker's better than Dak.
[33:47] Speaker 1: He's better than Tua. He's better than Gino, He's better
[33:49] Speaker 1: than Aaron, He's better than Russell, He's better than Cousins.
[33:51] Speaker 1: I think he and Darnold are very similar that they
[33:54] Speaker 1: can be mistake prone, but they can plan it.
[33:56] Speaker 2: And there there were touchdowns last year.
[33:59] Speaker 1: He's been really good. Go ahead, Yeah, No, Baker is
[34:02] Speaker 1: a prime example. You see this a lot in the NBA,
[34:06] Speaker 1: where a guy comes in and you just needs the
[34:08] Speaker 1: mature aunt Edwards. In the NFL, generally Maturity's not the issue.
[34:12] Speaker 1: It's you either have it or you don't. Baker was
[34:15] Speaker 1: the rare lot of testosterone, a lot of confidence, and
[34:19] Speaker 1: I felt like, can somebody turn the governor down just
[34:22] Speaker 1: a little? He was Johnny Manziel, but more likable and
[34:26] Speaker 1: with actual talent. He could really throw a football. But
[34:29] Speaker 1: I think Baker is the rare NFL player and quarterback.
[34:32] Speaker 1: You're like one of the talents. Inarguable, he's just got
[34:37] Speaker 1: to turn the governor down. Cleveland was not built for Baker.
[34:41] Speaker 1: You go to a great GM, a talented roster in Tampa,
[34:44] Speaker 1: which is, by the way, below the radar. It's in
[34:47] Speaker 1: the NFC South, which is a low profile division. Baker
[34:50] Speaker 1: now is absolutely underdiscussed. He is a really good NFL quarterback.
[34:55] Speaker 1: I don't think that's disputable.
[34:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's hard to make a top ten
[34:59] Speaker 2: and not include it. And then when you add to
[35:02] Speaker 2: the fact that he makes around sixty percent of what
[35:08] Speaker 2: the other guys in that top ten make, his value
[35:12] Speaker 2: is massive. He for a guy who dealt with injuries
[35:16] Speaker 2: during in his time in Cleveland, he's incredibly durable. His
[35:21] Speaker 2: teammates love him, and he now has back to back
[35:24] Speaker 2: years of really high productivity, a playoff quarterback, win the
[35:30] Speaker 2: division again, forty touchdowns last year, and so yeah, I
[35:36] Speaker 2: think that there was because he was talked about so
[35:41] Speaker 2: much when he wasn't yet that good. I think people
[35:46] Speaker 2: got I don't know if numbs the right word, but
[35:48] Speaker 2: they were just kind of got over him. And now
[35:52] Speaker 2: that he is, I think really good people are just like, Okay, yeah,
[35:56] Speaker 2: that's Baker, Like he's a people I think boxed ten in.
[36:01] Speaker 2: He's a good story and that is true, but he's
[36:04] Speaker 2: more than that at this point. At this point, like
[36:09] Speaker 2: do I this is you know, a third rail for
[36:11] Speaker 2: some Do I think he's better than Brock Birdie? I
[36:15] Speaker 2: do what I rather like And so you said, Dak Prescott,
[36:20] Speaker 2: I think that's close. I think that there is. There
[36:24] Speaker 2: are a lot of quarterbacks that like I'll give you
[36:27] Speaker 2: a great example. Now, this guy's young and we'll see,
[36:30] Speaker 2: but he makes a lot of money. I think he's
[36:34] Speaker 2: pretty clearly better than Jordan Love. And I think that
[36:37] Speaker 2: Jordan Love is discussed like he is. You know what
[36:41] Speaker 2: I mean? This hasty, I have.
[36:43] Speaker 1: To it's interesting. So I was really not anti Jordan Love,
[36:47] Speaker 1: but I but I said, for two years there is
[36:50] Speaker 1: more footage of Bigfoot than Jordan Love. They're hiding him
[36:53] Speaker 1: for a reason. Then he came out and he was
[36:55] Speaker 1: kind of sensational and I really bought into him. And
[36:58] Speaker 1: then it's as if the league defensive coordinators got all
[37:01] Speaker 1: this footage and they found holes. And at the end
[37:05] Speaker 1: of last year, you're like, oh, people have caught on
[37:08] Speaker 1: to him. This is now. It would be a sophomore
[37:10] Speaker 1: slump for anybody else, but he was like in.
[37:12] Speaker 2: His fourth year year.
[37:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, and so I want to see him. So now
[37:17] Speaker 1: it's like an NBA playoff series, like you get worked,
[37:20] Speaker 1: then you change things and that there's stages and coaching,
[37:25] Speaker 1: you know, adaptations.
[37:28] Speaker 2: Yep.
[37:29] Speaker 1: Yeah. So now I've seen Jordan's shock the league. Now
[37:32] Speaker 1: I've seen people react and he struggles. Now I want
[37:35] Speaker 1: to see his next hand with Matt Lafleur. That's why
[37:38] Speaker 1: they drafted to me ag a receiver in the first round,
[37:40] Speaker 1: because they're like, listen, we he may need a little
[37:42] Speaker 1: more help than we think here. But I so, I'm
[37:46] Speaker 1: not sure Baker's better. I think Jordan's got a hell
[37:49] Speaker 1: of a whip and he's a really good athlete, but
[37:51] Speaker 1: he's he's one of the last quarterbacks in this league,
[37:53] Speaker 1: Jordan Love, I'm not sure. I know who's bad, I
[37:57] Speaker 1: know who's good. I know who's pretty good. Jordan Love
[38:00] Speaker 1: is the last. I'm not really sure what he is
[38:03] Speaker 1: in the league.
[38:04] Speaker 2: To me, I'm gonna throw another guy that I'm not.
[38:07] Speaker 2: I think this guy's really good, but I'm gonna put
[38:10] Speaker 2: the not sure, and that's CJ. I think that I
[38:15] Speaker 2: think CJ's really good. It is there are some I
[38:21] Speaker 2: think it is hard in the modern NFL to be
[38:26] Speaker 2: really good if you hate running, you don't, you know
[38:31] Speaker 2: what I mean? And and now like I'm sure CJ,
[38:34] Speaker 2: especially because he's black quarterback, like was probably you know,
[38:39] Speaker 2: felt pressure like to prove to everyone like I'm I'm
[38:42] Speaker 2: not you know what I mean, I'm not a running
[38:44] Speaker 2: back with that also play in the position. I'm a
[38:47] Speaker 2: true prototypical pocket passer. The problem with that is that
[38:51] Speaker 2: position it's not extinct, but it is on the just
[38:56] Speaker 2: the Matt Stafford, Jared Goff, Joe Burrows style is it's
[39:01] Speaker 2: just a hard way to make a living. And it
[39:04] Speaker 2: doesn't mean you have to be you know, one read
[39:08] Speaker 2: and then take off and run. But it's a nice
[39:10] Speaker 2: pitch to have particularly come the playoffs well. And I
[39:14] Speaker 2: thought CJ in the playoffs last year actually went to
[39:17] Speaker 2: it a little more and so that was a good sign.
[39:20] Speaker 2: But I just want to see a little more from him.
[39:23] Speaker 2: But yeah, I think in general, we usually know who
[39:26] Speaker 2: these guys are, and then there are guys who like
[39:31] Speaker 2: this is the thing that I would say about guys
[39:33] Speaker 2: like Donald or Gino. I don't think Darnald's a weird
[39:38] Speaker 2: one for you because you always saw this really good player.
[39:43] Speaker 2: But I think people that said like those guys were
[39:48] Speaker 2: not good potentially were correct, and then those guys, through
[39:54] Speaker 2: hard work and maturation and learning and getting older, got good,
[39:59] Speaker 2: like you know what I And so like the I
[40:01] Speaker 2: think that a guy like Gino, I think Gino was
[40:05] Speaker 2: probably rightfully you know, lower tier backup early and then
[40:12] Speaker 2: worked his ass off, got better, learned more and became
[40:16] Speaker 2: this player. But yeah, I think most of the quarterbacks
[40:21] Speaker 2: we know, we know about who they are. The one
[40:25] Speaker 2: I'll throw another one at you that to me is
[40:27] Speaker 2: the most confusing or most intriguing, and that's Herbert. Because Herbert,
[40:32] Speaker 2: it's there is no there is no question how talented
[40:36] Speaker 2: he is. But five years into your career. You need
[40:41] Speaker 2: more than just he throws an amazing ball. And there's
[40:45] Speaker 2: not a lot of quarterbacks who five years into their
[40:49] Speaker 2: career who ended up being amazing, who five years into
[40:53] Speaker 2: their career hadn't accomplished anything. And he's on that list.
[40:58] Speaker 1: Yeah. No, he his first two coaches, though, Dean Spanos
[41:02] Speaker 1: until Harbaugh never paid money for a coach, so his
[41:04] Speaker 1: first two coaches were a miss. So I do think
[41:07] Speaker 1: he's a rare. Circumstantially, I think he's a rare. I
[41:12] Speaker 1: think the people in the league that I know all
[41:13] Speaker 1: love him. He was also the justin Herbert criticism is fair.
[41:17] Speaker 1: He was mechanical on film. People thought he was mechanical.
[41:21] Speaker 1: Tom Telesco, who drafted him, said, we thought he was mechanical.
[41:24] Speaker 1: Then I went and watched him in person and I
[41:25] Speaker 1: saw him play the best Iowa, best Wisconsin defense of
[41:29] Speaker 1: all time and went, oh, Okay, he's not that mechanical,
[41:32] Speaker 1: but he can be sort of a rhythm quarterback where
[41:36] Speaker 1: when he gets out of rhythm. You know, I've said
[41:39] Speaker 1: this about certain players are like the Pacers are a
[41:43] Speaker 1: rhythm offense. Halliburton leaves for four and a half minutes.
[41:46] Speaker 1: They can't get the rhythm back, like it's like, oh,
[41:48] Speaker 1: it just doesn't work. Like Herbert's a rhythm thrower, Like
[41:51] Speaker 1: he gets into a rhythm and if you bang him,
[41:54] Speaker 1: or he gets sacked or a receiver drops it, he
[41:57] Speaker 1: can get out of rhythm. A lot of quarterbacks, aren't,
[42:00] Speaker 1: They just they just pick it up, they go. So
[42:02] Speaker 1: I think the criticism of Herbert are fair. But he's six'
[42:05] Speaker 1: five a, four two biology.
[42:07] Speaker 2: Jobs he's super, smart he's super. Athletic he could run.
[42:11] Speaker 2: More he did a little more under, hardball like he in.
[42:14] Speaker 2: College he ran the hell out of the ball when
[42:16] Speaker 2: they needed. To here would be kind of a CONCERN i.
[42:21] Speaker 2: Have that is really just a kernel of a BELIEF
[42:26] Speaker 2: i have about, sports which is particularly for the most scrutinized.
[42:31] Speaker 2: Positions so best player on AN nba, team quarterback on
[42:36] Speaker 2: a football. Team the randomness of your first couple times
[42:45] Speaker 2: in a big spot casts the longest shadow a magical
[42:50] Speaker 2: over your. Career and So i'll use a basketball example
[42:55] Speaker 2: than a couple of football. Examples the fact That kobe
[43:01] Speaker 2: as a teenager basically was a, champion and That, Listen
[43:06] Speaker 2: kobe was unbelievable on the second two championships With. Shaq
[43:10] Speaker 2: but that first championship With, shaq he was a role
[43:13] Speaker 2: player and it was Peak shaquille. O'Neal but before he
[43:18] Speaker 2: can is old enough to, drink he's a. Champion no
[43:22] Speaker 2: one is ever going to be able to be, like
[43:24] Speaker 2: can he can you win a ring With Kobe? Bryant
[43:27] Speaker 2: and that gave, him in my, opinion the freedom to be,
[43:31] Speaker 2: Like i'll take every fucking into game. Shot no one
[43:34] Speaker 2: can ever say anything bad about, me, right and so
[43:37] Speaker 2: it had a real. IMPACT i do. THINK i Think
[43:41] Speaker 2: Tom brady is one of the greatest athletes of all
[43:45] Speaker 2: time and obviously has the greatest resume of any quarterback.
[43:49] Speaker 2: EVER i also wonder if they simply hadn't you, KNOW
[43:56] Speaker 2: i won't even do the the. Game if in that
[44:03] Speaker 2: First Super bowl Then Terry, miss yeah miss is the field,
[44:09] Speaker 2: goal or he makes one bad read or whatever it
[44:14] Speaker 2: is and they don't win, there then does he have
[44:18] Speaker 2: like the freedom to be him in those? Moments moving?
[44:23] Speaker 2: FORWARD i think THAT i THINK i think there is
[44:27] Speaker 2: a chance that we are talking About Russell wilson the
[44:30] Speaker 2: way we talk About Terry. Bradshaw if he doesn't throw
[44:34] Speaker 2: The Malcolm butler pick BECAUSE i think if they would
[44:36] Speaker 2: have won That Super bowl and he really, believed Like
[44:40] Speaker 2: i'm ordainous By god to do, this that it then
[44:43] Speaker 2: led to itself and.
[44:44] Speaker 1: Then go, ahead well, no, No and by losing That
[44:47] Speaker 1: Super bowl and throwing that, pick it eroded the chemistry
[44:51] Speaker 1: in the locker room and it was never the same
[44:52] Speaker 1: off one, play AND i.
[44:54] Speaker 2: Think it eroded for. Him this feeling of this is
[44:58] Speaker 2: meant to be the the flip side to those To
[45:02] Speaker 2: brady or To. Kobe example Is. Peyton So peyton early
[45:08] Speaker 2: in his career came up short in a couple of
[45:11] Speaker 2: big spots and then it just the weight got bigger and,
[45:16] Speaker 2: bigger and he got That moniker even though he's a
[45:19] Speaker 2: challenged any football Player i've ever. Seen so the REASON
[45:22] Speaker 2: i bring that up IS I i worry that For,
[45:30] Speaker 2: herbert he is going to walk into his next playoff
[45:34] Speaker 2: game with the weight of the world on his. Shoulders
[45:38] Speaker 2: he's gonna be Like i've been. HERE i basically played
[45:42] Speaker 2: two real and one de facto playoff. Game the de
[45:44] Speaker 2: facto was The week Eighteen Chargers. Raiders remember that were
[45:49] Speaker 2: like a. Tie you both go to the playoffs and
[45:52] Speaker 2: The raiders stealing at the end we blew a four
[45:56] Speaker 2: score lead to The, jags AND i threw four picks
[46:01] Speaker 2: in my other playoff, game and it just it is
[46:05] Speaker 2: so it's so fleeting what that you know what those can.
[46:13] Speaker 2: Be and so that is to, me, like, well a
[46:15] Speaker 2: real and Something i'm excited to see moving because you've
[46:21] Speaker 2: seen how it's worn On lamar and you see the
[46:23] Speaker 2: Freedom mahomes plays with moms like nobody can ever call
[46:26] Speaker 2: me anything but, clutch and he can play.
[46:29] Speaker 1: Like, that well it. Can lamar now is feeling the.
[46:32] Speaker 1: Pressure you can See lamar in playoff games as. TIGHT
[46:35] Speaker 1: i think eventually the failures of The chargers and The
[46:40] Speaker 1: spanos family to get the right coach got them to
[46:42] Speaker 1: pay fifteen million dollars a year For. Harbass so he
[46:44] Speaker 1: has his. Kingmaker AND i also think it Takes this
[46:48] Speaker 1: is something that people don't really understand. THIS i think
[46:53] Speaker 1: we tend, men at least In, america tend to worship other,
[46:56] Speaker 1: men and we we just forget That Michael jordan for
[47:02] Speaker 1: years didn't do shit Without pippen and at the end
[47:05] Speaker 1: it was pathetic In. Washington but it's six for six
[47:08] Speaker 1: and he's the greatest ever and he failed at, baseball
[47:10] Speaker 1: And michael Got Phil jackson And Scottie pippen and everything.
[47:13] Speaker 1: Changed he was just kind of a ballhog who couldn't
[47:17] Speaker 1: get Past, boston he couldn't get Past. Detroit it didn't
[47:21] Speaker 1: get along with a lot of teammates early In chicago Or, Layton.
[47:24] Speaker 1: Washington and even when he was with The, bulls he was.
[47:27] Speaker 1: Hard in the Documentary Tom cruise a great. Example So
[47:32] Speaker 1: Tom cruise goes into a high school play and a
[47:36] Speaker 1: year later he's in the, movies and not long after
[47:39] Speaker 1: that he's in a risky business and that really defines.
[47:42] Speaker 1: HIM i, mean Ray ban sales, exploded you, know from
[47:46] Speaker 1: the underwear scene in risky. Business So tom had absolute.
[47:49] Speaker 1: Talent but if you go back and look At Tom,
[47:53] Speaker 1: cruise who is as, driven willful and obsessed about movies as.
[47:58] Speaker 1: Anybody it was until his last five to six movies
[48:02] Speaker 1: where he finally came to terms With i'm just gonna
[48:05] Speaker 1: run a lot and do action movies and they all.
[48:07] Speaker 1: Hit and his last five to six movies have been massive.
[48:10] Speaker 1: Hits he Did rock Of, Ages Eyes Wide, Shut Vanilla,
[48:15] Speaker 1: sky who some people really, Like i've never seen. It
[48:18] Speaker 1: he had lots of. Missus Marlon brando had lots of,
[48:22] Speaker 1: misses so think how long it took for, finally finally
[48:27] Speaker 1: A Bradley cooper to find the right, director Or Tom
[48:31] Speaker 1: cruise to find the right. Vehicle he was always, talented
[48:36] Speaker 1: but Like, herbert he needs his. Hardball and that's WHAT
[48:40] Speaker 1: i think we tend to forget is That Michael jordan
[48:44] Speaker 1: Had Doug collins and Stan, olbrick but No Scottie. Pippt
[48:47] Speaker 1: he couldn't win a.
[48:48] Speaker 2: Playoff series, correct none of.
[48:51] Speaker 1: Them so you just you just need so much. Help
[48:55] Speaker 1: and that's you, know when anybody will ever ask, me
[48:58] Speaker 1: you know about, gosh how do you think you've done
[49:00] Speaker 1: it for thirty? Years and you have been doing this
[49:02] Speaker 1: AND i, Say i've had great. Help i've had really good.
[49:05] Speaker 1: Bosses i've had a couple, stinkers but overwhelming we've had
[49:09] Speaker 1: really good support and really good agents and really good.
[49:11] Speaker 1: BOSSES i would have been somewhat. Successful but the point
[49:14] Speaker 1: being is if you find a great stockbroker or, YOUTH
[49:17] Speaker 1: i Mean, obama he has, Somewhere he's got a kingmaker behind,
[49:21] Speaker 1: him you, know somebody behind him believed in, him and
[49:24] Speaker 1: we just forget that in sports and That mahomes would
[49:27] Speaker 1: have been, successful But Brett veach And Andy reider a big.
[49:31] Speaker 4: Part oh, yeah, well the, yeah and that it's also
[49:35] Speaker 4: one of the reasons THAT i find THE i find
[49:40] Speaker 4: it really fun but also frustrating at times when we.
[49:47] Speaker 2: Trying to parse individual credit for team sports. Success is
[49:54] Speaker 2: one of the most fun things about our. Business and
[49:57] Speaker 2: it's also why a guy WHEN i see, similarly but,
[50:01] Speaker 2: it's you, know one of the more POLARIZING i feel
[50:04] Speaker 2: quarterbacks is so interesting In party because there is it's
[50:09] Speaker 2: so much of all, right who is? It are? We you,
[50:14] Speaker 2: know LIKE i argue With wild's about. It wild's basically
[50:17] Speaker 2: his take is THAT i believe when The niners, Win shanahan,
[50:22] Speaker 2: won and when they, Lose party, Lost like is it
[50:25] Speaker 2: you know that The shanahan gets the credit and doesn't
[50:27] Speaker 2: get the. Blame and my my actual take is THAT
[50:34] Speaker 2: i think that there is there are a lot of
[50:38] Speaker 2: factors that have gone into why a quarterback who everyone
[50:44] Speaker 2: in the, league including The niners thought was not that,
[50:48] Speaker 2: good has had statistically one of the three or four
[50:53] Speaker 2: greatest starts to a career in the history of the.
[50:55] Speaker 2: SPORT i understand there are. MISSES i gets. IT i
[51:00] Speaker 2: Know brady went one ninety. NINE i understand all, that
[51:03] Speaker 2: BUT i when people with purty people will, say you
[51:08] Speaker 2: would feel differently if he were the number one, pick
[51:11] Speaker 2: and my answer is, yes of, course.
[51:12] Speaker 1: Of course he'd be a better.
[51:13] Speaker 2: Player, right that's the, right because that's that's. It you
[51:17] Speaker 2: wouldn't the. Draft it's not, random like if you were
[51:20] Speaker 2: the number one, pick he wouldn't be. Undersized he would
[51:23] Speaker 2: have a slightly stronger on that's. Right he, was, like
[51:26] Speaker 2: there's real things to.
[51:27] Speaker 1: It Tony romo was undrafted When Bill parcells found, Him
[51:31] Speaker 1: so the first four to five years Of Tony romo's
[51:33] Speaker 1: roster was. Great didn't pay him. Anything he was. Free
[51:36] Speaker 1: the minute they started Paying Tony, romo the offensive line
[51:39] Speaker 1: wasn't as, good And Tony romo couldn't win big, games
[51:42] Speaker 1: even Though Tony romo is a really GOOD b plus
[51:44] Speaker 1: a minus. Quarterback But Tony romo was. Free Kurt warner
[51:48] Speaker 1: early in his, career WHO i think is, great undervalued,
[51:50] Speaker 1: historically ye, know came into the.
[51:52] Speaker 2: League he was.
[51:52] Speaker 1: Free there's no question that Brock perty's lineup was stamped, well.
[51:57] Speaker 2: Stamp, well and, listen we don't we've done the party thing.
[52:00] Speaker 2: Before what is so frustrating me about the party thing
[52:02] Speaker 2: is and maybe this is why it's an ARGUMENT i
[52:05] Speaker 2: can't get over is and And i'm gonna make this,
[52:10] Speaker 2: point you, know till the end of my, career as
[52:13] Speaker 2: long as this is. Relevant four, years folks argued About Jimmy.
[52:20] Speaker 2: Garoppolo is he just a? Winner is he? Underrated you?
[52:25] Speaker 2: Know is you?
[52:26] Speaker 3: Know?
[52:27] Speaker 2: Was did he Make brady nervous because he was breathing
[52:29] Speaker 2: down his? Neck and then there were folks like. Me
[52:33] Speaker 2: he was, like, AH i actually think he's pretty, mediocre
[52:38] Speaker 2: and they'd be like, no that team was. Terrible and
[52:42] Speaker 2: then he got. There they went to AN nfc championship,
[52:44] Speaker 2: game they went to a Super, bowl AND i kept, saying,
[52:48] Speaker 2: YEAH i really think twenty five quarterbacks in the, league
[52:53] Speaker 2: if you gave them the defense The niners, had then
[52:57] Speaker 2: that head, coach those, weapons they would be incredibly. Successful
[53:03] Speaker 2: and it's, like, well that's a, hypothetical we'll never. Know
[53:06] Speaker 2: and then they literally replaced him with the last pick
[53:09] Speaker 2: of the draft had the exact same level of, success
[53:13] Speaker 2: and those same people instead of being like, shit maybe you're,
[53:16] Speaker 2: right they're like that new, guy he's fucking awesome, too
[53:20] Speaker 2: And i'm, like you gotta be kidding.
[53:22] Speaker 5: Me i'm, like they literally did. It they didn't replace
[53:26] Speaker 5: him with a first round. Pick they replaced him with
[53:28] Speaker 5: the last pick of the. Draft and guess what they.
[53:31] Speaker 5: Did they went to AN nfc championship game like they
[53:33] Speaker 5: did With. Jimmy they then went to a Super bowl
[53:35] Speaker 5: like they did With.
[53:36] Speaker 2: Jimmy they lost The Super bowl to literally the same
[53:39] Speaker 2: team in very similar. Fashion And you're, like turns out
[53:43] Speaker 2: they're both. Awesome and Then i'm, like, hey by the,
[53:45] Speaker 2: way How's garppolo look now that he's gone.
[53:48] Speaker 1: Playing they're, like, oh, well.
[53:49] Speaker 3: You, know.
[53:50] Speaker 2: INJURIES i. Guess i'm, like or maybe he's. Stuck LIKE
[53:53] Speaker 2: i Think perty's obviously better Than, Groppolo but Like groppolo
[53:56] Speaker 2: was a is a below average quarterback who looked quite.
[54:01] Speaker 2: GOOD i Think perty's an average quarterback who looks great
[54:05] Speaker 2: in the exact same. System and by the, Way Jimmy
[54:07] Speaker 2: grappolo never Had christian. McCaffrey AND i just feel myself
[54:11] Speaker 2: going crazy on. It and then they paid a fifty
[54:13] Speaker 2: three million, dollars so what DO i.
[54:15] Speaker 1: Know the volume
