[0:22] Speaker 2: for you because have some football takes. I think the
[0:26] Speaker 2: Bears must win Territory this weekend so their season doesn't unravel.
[0:30] Speaker 2: Got the Cowboys rolling into town. I want to defend
[0:33] Speaker 2: Tom Brady. Chargers got good news today as Wilson thoughts
[0:38] Speaker 2: on Mahomes and the Eagles. But Kyle Brandt, who is
[0:41] Speaker 2: one of the hosts of Good Morning Football, and he's

[0:56] Speaker 2: don't think I've ever met him in person, but he
[0:59] Speaker 2: was really good. Good. So we talked to Kyle Brandt
[1:01] Speaker 2: about the business football bunch of bs meaning we bs to.
[1:07] Speaker 2: It was fun. He's awesome And I also did a
[1:10] Speaker 2: little mail bag at John Middlecoff is the Instagram firing
[1:13] Speaker 2: those dms. Wanted to put that at the end, So
[1:15] Speaker 2: you try to incorporate you people that ask questions I
[1:19] Speaker 2: didn't get to, so I'm trying to get through them all.
[1:22] Speaker 2: I'm here for the people. So we got a little
[1:24] Speaker 2: mail bag. So it's basically some takes, Kyle Brandt and
[1:27] Speaker 2: a mail bag. That would be the show. You guys

[1:51] Speaker 2: search by the arena, you can search by the stadium,
[1:53] Speaker 2: price points where you want to sit. If you're going
[1:56] Speaker 2: to a concert, and I've done this countless times, where
[1:59] Speaker 2: exactly you are relative to the stage, they have flash deals.
[2:02] Speaker 2: It does not get any easier. So take the guests
[2:04] Speaker 2: work out of buying tickets with game Time down the
[2:07] Speaker 2: Game Time app created an account use the goat John
[2:10] Speaker 2: for twenty dollars off your first purchase. Terms by again,
[2:12] Speaker 2: use the go John that's my name John for twenty
[2:15] Speaker 2: dollars off down the game time app today, last minute
[2:16] Speaker 2: take as low as prices guarantee. This might sound a
[2:22] Speaker 2: little crazy because obviously I don't think view this team
[2:25] Speaker 2: as a playoff team. They're not a contender, But in
[2:29] Speaker 2: terms of the health of their season, I don't think
[2:32] Speaker 2: it's crazy to say this is must win for the Bears,
[2:35] Speaker 2: because I'll never forget when I first got into radio,
[2:38] Speaker 2: I worked with a lot of people that had been
[2:40] Speaker 2: in the business for a long time, and back then
[2:43] Speaker 2: radio kind of like television. If you're a news anchor,
[2:46] Speaker 2: you kind of bounce around. It's like being a coach.
[2:49] Speaker 2: You go wherever the job is. I say this all
[2:51] Speaker 2: the time. I feel very fortunate that I'm in this
[2:54] Speaker 2: era where I didn't need to just move to some
[2:57] Speaker 2: other city for my career. When it came to talking
[3:01] Speaker 2: about sports, I could just create a studio in my
[3:05] Speaker 2: room in a shed wherever, and talk on a microphone
[3:10] Speaker 2: and do the job. Technology has benefited me greatly. But
[3:15] Speaker 2: and same thing when it comes to these radio hosts
[3:17] Speaker 2: that have transitioned into podcasts. But I remember a buddy
[3:20] Speaker 2: of mine, John Lund, whose longtime radio hosts been everywhere
[3:23] Speaker 2: in the country. He said, worked in Detroit, he said,
[3:26] Speaker 2: one thing that stood out to him in that market
[3:29] Speaker 2: was guys like negativity because they were used to losing.
[3:33] Speaker 2: The Lions lost all the time. Now clearly that has
[3:37] Speaker 2: changed with Dan Campbell, and I thought the same thing
[3:41] Speaker 2: in Philadelphia. Not that they like losing, because they don't.
[3:45] Speaker 2: But in terms of successful radio, you will crush it
[3:48] Speaker 2: if they win, just like you will crush it if
[3:50] Speaker 2: they're losing, because people have no problem tuning in to
[3:53] Speaker 2: the negativity. It's the opposite on the West Coast. I
[3:56] Speaker 2: lived in the Bay Area. When the teams lose, people
[3:59] Speaker 2: turn you off. You can say it's fair weather. They
[4:02] Speaker 2: do not like negativity when when things turn south with
[4:06] Speaker 2: a football team, with a basketball team, with a baseball team,
[4:09] Speaker 2: your ratings plummet. Some places that they at least stay
[4:13] Speaker 2: the same, if not go up. And I do think
[4:15] Speaker 2: Chicago when it comes to the media, when it comes
[4:18] Speaker 2: to the fan base, there's a lot of negativity surrounding.
[4:22] Speaker 2: You know, the franchise and getting Ben Johnson was a
[4:25] Speaker 2: really big deal. They gave him a ton of money
[4:27] Speaker 2: and the hopes were high. Hell I kind of bought it.
[4:29] Speaker 2: I'm like, I think they're going to be dramatically better.
[4:32] Speaker 2: But as a buddy of mine texted me, today, is
[4:34] Speaker 2: like God, and this is a buddy in the league.
[4:37] Speaker 2: It's pretty ugly right now. For Ryan Pols, he clearly overrated.
[4:41] Speaker 2: The roster. People are coming for him. And we see
[4:44] Speaker 2: sometimes and this happens in the SEC a lot, when
[4:47] Speaker 2: people are out for you, it's hard to fend off
[4:50] Speaker 2: that tsunami that ultimately leads to you losing your job.
[4:55] Speaker 2: And I think if the Bears, who if they were
[4:58] Speaker 2: to lose this game to the Dallas Cowboys. Now, granted
[5:02] Speaker 2: they're currently an underdog at home against a team that
[5:04] Speaker 2: we did not think was gonna be good at all,
[5:07] Speaker 2: in Brian the Chottenheimer, whose defensive coordinator is Matt Eberflus,
[5:11] Speaker 2: and they come to Chicago and they win this thing,
[5:14] Speaker 2: it could kind of get out of control because they're
[5:18] Speaker 2: not gonna be any good on the road throughout the season.
[5:20] Speaker 2: They don't play the Packers till the end of the year.
[5:22] Speaker 2: They got some guaranteed El's upcoming on the season, and
[5:26] Speaker 2: then they just have some random road games like the
[5:28] Speaker 2: Raiders and the Commanders where it's like, ah, you could
[5:31] Speaker 2: win those games or you could lose them both. So
[5:34] Speaker 2: all of a sudden, you look up and the Bears
[5:36] Speaker 2: are like two and six. They have a first time
[5:38] Speaker 2: head coach who I saw this clip. I was at
[5:42] Speaker 2: the gym and I looked up and McAfee was on
[5:44] Speaker 2: one of the televisions and they were showing Ben Johnson,
[5:47] Speaker 2: and I hadn't seen it till Wednesday after the loss
[5:50] Speaker 2: to Detroit where obviously they gave up fifty points and
[5:53] Speaker 2: they got blown out in the second half. And he
[5:55] Speaker 2: goes up Dan Campbell a very brief interaction and then
[5:59] Speaker 2: start sprinting toward the locker room. And Jared Goff, who
[6:03] Speaker 2: obviously thinks extremely highly of Ben Johnson, who has to
[6:08] Speaker 2: look at Ben going this guy helped resurrect my career.
[6:11] Speaker 2: Who got his back after the game, saying I didn't
[6:14] Speaker 2: love the f Ben Johnson chance in the stadium, tried
[6:19] Speaker 2: to go shake his hand, and Ben Johnson barely gave
[6:21] Speaker 2: him the time of day and sprinted the locker room. Now,
[6:24] Speaker 2: I get you show me a good loser, and I'll
[6:28] Speaker 2: show you a loser.
[6:29] Speaker 3: Right.
[6:29] Speaker 2: Tom Brady was notoriously a sore loser. Same thing with Belichick,
[6:33] Speaker 2: but typically they were losing to whoever in the Super
[6:37] Speaker 2: Bowl or the AFC Championship Game. There was no connection.
[6:41] Speaker 2: Those guys, specifically Goff, the rest of the offensive guys,
[6:44] Speaker 2: and Dan Campbell changed the course of Ben Johnson and
[6:48] Speaker 2: his family's life. Ben Johnson just signed a five year
[6:52] Speaker 2: contract worth thirteen million dollars a year. If you do
[6:55] Speaker 2: the math, you're talking sixty five plus million dollars. And
[6:59] Speaker 2: his kids will'll never not go to private schools. His
[7:01] Speaker 2: wife will never not drive a g wagon. I'm talking
[7:04] Speaker 2: if he gets fired, if his career just tumbles, moving forward,
[7:09] Speaker 2: he will be at the nicest country clubs eating dinner
[7:11] Speaker 2: moving forward. His life financially completely changed because of the Lions.
[7:17] Speaker 2: And I get it sucks losing. These guys are all
[7:20] Speaker 2: really competitive, but those guys change your life. And I
[7:23] Speaker 2: think and listen, I understand he's a tightly wound focused guy.
[7:27] Speaker 2: You can't for two seconds pretend to be like, hey man,
[7:31] Speaker 2: good game show a little sportsmanship of humans that you
[7:34] Speaker 2: know that you needed, that sent you on this trajectory
[7:38] Speaker 2: that you're at currently making a ton of money in
[7:41] Speaker 2: one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL and
[7:43] Speaker 2: don't even have a career win under your belt. Not
[7:46] Speaker 2: all his fault. He didn't build this roster together. Ryan Poles,
[7:49] Speaker 2: who I think we have to acknowledge is one of
[7:51] Speaker 2: the worst gms. But here's the thing I'll never forget.
[7:55] Speaker 2: When I was doing local radio and Jim tom Sula
[7:57] Speaker 2: was the head coach of the forty nine ers and
[8:00] Speaker 2: they actually weren't record wise as bad as you think.
[8:04] Speaker 2: If you just had what was Jim tom Sulla's record
[8:06] Speaker 2: as a head coach, someone'd be like one in fifteen two,
[8:10] Speaker 2: you know, the only played sixteen games at two and fourteen.
[8:12] Speaker 2: He won five. Now, one of the games he lost
[8:17] Speaker 2: was to the Cleveland Browns, who had Mike Petton who
[8:20] Speaker 2: was their coach at the time, and the Niners. I'm
[8:23] Speaker 2: pretty sure they played him in Cleveland. Cleveland wasn't good
[8:26] Speaker 2: and they beat him. And Peden said after, He's like,
[8:29] Speaker 2: you know, everyone keeps a acting like our franchisees and shambles.
[8:34] Speaker 2: Our house is on fire, and they kind of were
[8:35] Speaker 2: at the time. What do we think about them? I mean,
[8:38] Speaker 2: we just beat them. Let's point the finger at that operation.
[8:41] Speaker 2: He was right, and the Cowboys polarizing organization. They got
[8:46] Speaker 2: lucky that the Giants Defenders have absolutely no clue what
[8:50] Speaker 2: they're doing when it came to just trying to make
[8:52] Speaker 2: sure that Ferguson can't just run down the scene and
[8:55] Speaker 2: put this guy that can kick seventy yard field goals
[8:58] Speaker 2: and give him the opportunity to have a tempt so
[9:01] Speaker 2: like the guy. I to understand, the Cowboys are one
[9:03] Speaker 2: and one. They probably should have lost that game, right,
[9:06] Speaker 2: so you get eber Flus rolling in. This thing could
[9:10] Speaker 2: get really ugly really fast, and obviously it already is bad.
[9:13] Speaker 2: But I said this about Ben Johnson coming in, is
[9:17] Speaker 2: that there is no training ground to be the headman, right.
[9:22] Speaker 2: You understand offense. You gain the experience of dealing with
[9:26] Speaker 2: different players throughout your assistant coaching career as a position
[9:29] Speaker 2: coach and as a coordinator, but you never have everyone
[9:32] Speaker 2: start talking to you about like why is this guy
[9:34] Speaker 2: not getting the touches? Why is this guy inactive on
[9:37] Speaker 2: game day? Why are you looking at this guy weird?
[9:39] Speaker 2: What's going on with your entire team, what's going on
[9:43] Speaker 2: with your relationship with the gentleman? The questions you get
[9:46] Speaker 2: asked as the headman, whether they're true or not, are
[9:50] Speaker 2: completely different. And then obviously, as things happen it's like, well,
[9:53] Speaker 2: would you guys be open to trading players? You don't
[9:56] Speaker 2: ask coordinators that because you know it's not their call. Well,
[9:59] Speaker 2: when it comes down to Ben Johnson, like, do you
[10:01] Speaker 2: see your relationship with Ryan Poles being something you guys
[10:05] Speaker 2: can work through when you're one in eight and I
[10:09] Speaker 2: think the Bears are staring disaster in the face and
[10:13] Speaker 2: if they want to get this thing just somewhat credible
[10:16] Speaker 2: to me, this is a must win game. And you
[10:17] Speaker 2: get the Cowboys that kind of come in no pressure
[10:21] Speaker 2: now and can just sling that thing around. So Dennis
[10:24] Speaker 2: Allen that defense, Ben Johnson, this game is gonna be fascinating.
[10:29] Speaker 2: And obviously a main reason for that is Tom Brady.
[10:32] Speaker 2: And obviously Tom Brady has become a talking point after
[10:35] Speaker 2: he was seen in the coaching box and I saw
[10:38] Speaker 2: Ben Johnson actually was asked today about that situation of
[10:42] Speaker 2: talking to Tom throughout the week, you know, being that
[10:45] Speaker 2: he's calling the game, and he didn't think it was
[10:46] Speaker 2: that big a deal. Now they're friends. And remember one
[10:50] Speaker 2: of the reasons that he interviewed with the Raiders was
[10:53] Speaker 2: because Tom personally called him and asked he wasn't even
[10:56] Speaker 2: going to give them the time of day, so he
[10:59] Speaker 2: extremely high Tom, just as most I'm sure offensive coordinators,
[11:03] Speaker 2: head coaches that are offensive coordinators, offensive personnel in the
[11:07] Speaker 2: league like not just like Tom Revere him want to
[11:10] Speaker 2: be friends with him because they want to talk offensive football.
[11:13] Speaker 2: But Tom Brady's kind of getting I saw Portnoy today
[11:16] Speaker 2: say that Tom Brady, that Saudi situation he's doing with
[11:20] Speaker 2: the flag football is being paid seventy five million dollars
[11:26] Speaker 2: to be the all time quarterback in this Sadi. I
[11:29] Speaker 2: don't know flag football operation. Unless I said this about
[11:32] Speaker 2: liv back when it happened before they bought ad space.
[11:36] Speaker 2: I was never that emotionally like this guy's a loser
[11:39] Speaker 2: for taking the money. It's easy for you to say
[11:41] Speaker 2: if you were Bryce and d Chambeau, Phil Mickelson, Brooks
[11:44] Speaker 2: Kopkar DJ and they're throwing one hundred and fifty two
[11:47] Speaker 2: hundred million dollars in front of your face, It's like, yeah,
[11:49] Speaker 2: let's see your morals now. It's easy to talk from
[11:52] Speaker 2: your couch eating a bag of cheetos. You know, Tom
[11:55] Speaker 2: Brady taking seventy five millions for Sadi's A lot of
[11:57] Speaker 2: people are gonna have different takes about the moral stances,
[12:01] Speaker 2: like you've never been offered seventy five million dollars for
[12:05] Speaker 2: you know, three games of all time quarterback. I mean,
[12:08] Speaker 2: it's it's gonna be the easiest money he's ever made.
[12:10] Speaker 2: But I've heard a lot of people say, like, why
[12:12] Speaker 2: is he so aggressively now doing stuff that he never
[12:17] Speaker 2: did in the past. Like Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods.
[12:21] Speaker 2: They don't put themselves out there like Tom Bradys, And
[12:25] Speaker 2: it kind of hit me this morning. They don't have
[12:27] Speaker 2: to because Michael Jordan got whether it's because of his mom, whatever,
[12:32] Speaker 2: the real story is in the negotiation when it came
[12:35] Speaker 2: to the Jordan brand got points in the deal, which
[12:40] Speaker 2: has obviously made him a billionaire several times over. He
[12:44] Speaker 2: made one of the smartest contracts off the court in
[12:48] Speaker 2: the history of sports, getting revenue from his brand. Tiger
[12:53] Speaker 2: Woods for about a ten year period in the two
[12:55] Speaker 2: thousands was making seventy to ninety million dollars off the course.
[13:03] Speaker 2: He is also currently a billionaire. Both those guys. Obviously
[13:07] Speaker 2: Michael had the revenue. Tiger never owned his Nike contract right,
[13:11] Speaker 2: Nike just paid him. He didn't own Buick, he didn't
[13:14] Speaker 2: own all these people he was doing deals with, but
[13:17] Speaker 2: his brand was so lucrative. He made an extreme amount
[13:21] Speaker 2: of money. And those guys now can say no to
[13:25] Speaker 2: countless things. If Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods really wanted
[13:29] Speaker 2: to get aggressive and buy part of an NFL team,
[13:33] Speaker 2: even if it was five to ten percent, they have
[13:35] Speaker 2: way more money than Tom. Never forget Tom took discounts
[13:40] Speaker 2: for years with the Patriots. I bet if we did
[13:44] Speaker 2: a did a deep research on it, probably average fifteen
[13:49] Speaker 2: to twenty percent of a year for fifteen plus years.
[13:53] Speaker 2: When it came to his Patriot contracts, the other thing
[13:55] Speaker 2: he did it was a lot different than say his
[14:00] Speaker 2: here Peyton Manning. It doesn't feel like in the prime
[14:03] Speaker 2: of his career he was aggressive with commercials. You turn
[14:05] Speaker 2: on the television now, Josh Allen, Patrick mahomes Hell, going
[14:10] Speaker 2: back to Baker Mayfield when he first got in the league,
[14:12] Speaker 2: the top quarterbacks are everywhere on television. Remember that first
[14:16] Speaker 2: game against Ohio State and Arch Manning's first start, He
[14:21] Speaker 2: had more commercials than touchdowns. He was on like three
[14:24] Speaker 2: different ads. So, like Tom Brady, you could argue was
[14:28] Speaker 2: much more focused on the field during his career than
[14:31] Speaker 2: he was about financially maximizing every penny. Now, he was
[14:35] Speaker 2: still a worth hundreds of millions of dollars in doing fine.
[14:38] Speaker 2: But when Tom's career ended, he wants to own an
[14:41] Speaker 2: NFL team. And if you look around at the price
[14:44] Speaker 2: points for owning an NFL team, look at the guy's
[14:46] Speaker 2: getting involved. It's like David Tepper, one of the greatest
[14:50] Speaker 2: stock traders in the history of the world. Look at
[14:52] Speaker 2: the owners just in general in sports, some of these
[14:55] Speaker 2: new guys ballmer. I mean, they have an ungodly amount
[14:58] Speaker 2: of money. And Tom Brady is not on that level.
[15:01] Speaker 2: I mean, neither is Peyton Manning. So if they want
[15:05] Speaker 2: in on that space, they have to be ultra aggressive.
[15:08] Speaker 2: And he got very lucky that Mark Davis reached out
[15:12] Speaker 2: to him. This according to Mark Davis, I told him
[15:15] Speaker 2: I wanted in on the deal. But remember he was
[15:17] Speaker 2: going to give him a sweetheart deal. The league said no, no, no,
[15:20] Speaker 2: we can't have that. Whatever percentage you give him has
[15:24] Speaker 2: to be based on the market value. Well, Mark Davis
[15:27] Speaker 2: does not have children, so when he dies, I don't
[15:30] Speaker 2: exactly know how his trust in that situation will go down.
[15:33] Speaker 2: There is not you know, Al Davis Junior at forty
[15:37] Speaker 2: years old that is primed to take over the team.
[15:40] Speaker 2: Like when you go around the Dallas Cowboys, he has
[15:43] Speaker 2: sons who are taken over. Jeffrey Lurry has Julian Lurry
[15:46] Speaker 2: who's going to take over the team. You just look
[15:49] Speaker 2: around the league. There is typically the Ursay Doughters. There
[15:52] Speaker 2: are people that are going to take it from their
[15:54] Speaker 2: fathers that keep it in the family. This is a
[15:57] Speaker 2: family business. Even though these are billion dollar operations. The
[16:01] Speaker 2: Raiders do not have that. So Tom clearly, if he
[16:05] Speaker 2: looks around the league, he goes, this is my best opportunity,
[16:08] Speaker 2: one I'm already in. You'd be like, of course, the
[16:10] Speaker 2: best opportunity where else we have seen before some of
[16:13] Speaker 2: these guys be minority owners and other teams Jimmy Haslam,
[16:16] Speaker 2: David Tepper, and then get the opportunity to buy other teams.
[16:19] Speaker 2: So there are guys that are currently you don't know
[16:22] Speaker 2: as well, who own a small percentage of this team,
[16:26] Speaker 2: that team, the next team that go Hey, if there's
[16:28] Speaker 2: ever an opportunity to buy, I want an opportunity to bid,
[16:32] Speaker 2: and I'm sure have more money than Tom. So you
[16:34] Speaker 2: could argue that Tom, if he wants to one day
[16:38] Speaker 2: take over one of these operations. He needs to be
[16:41] Speaker 2: a whore when it comes to doing these deals, because
[16:44] Speaker 2: that's currently what he is and he can't. It's like,
[16:46] Speaker 2: why would Tom waste his weekends flying around I get
[16:49] Speaker 2: three hundred and seventy five million? He needs the money, right,
[16:52] Speaker 2: Why would Tom take seventy five million dollars even if
[16:55] Speaker 2: it's the easiest money he'll ever make, like with the
[16:57] Speaker 2: Sadi's because that money matters. And I just think, like
[17:01] Speaker 2: comparing him to MJ and Tiger, they're not comparables. Tiger,
[17:05] Speaker 2: you could argue in like the heat and the peak
[17:08] Speaker 2: of his career when he was winning the most was
[17:10] Speaker 2: as big of a business horror as you've ever seen.
[17:13] Speaker 2: He was on every ad, it was crazy, and he
[17:16] Speaker 2: maximized his earning power. And like I said, I just
[17:20] Speaker 2: think Jordan's deal is not really comparable to any athlete ever.
[17:25] Speaker 2: So I think when you it's easy to be critical
[17:29] Speaker 2: of Tom for doing all this stuff because it doesn't
[17:32] Speaker 2: feel like it's like what's he doing? Like why is
[17:34] Speaker 2: he doing all this stuff? I think it's to accumulate
[17:37] Speaker 2: as much money possible to ultimately be the lead dog
[17:41] Speaker 2: with the Raiders, and you already see like Mark Davis,
[17:44] Speaker 2: let him do whatever he wants, but it's it'd be
[17:46] Speaker 2: completely different if like, not only can I do whatever
[17:48] Speaker 2: I want, I'm the majority or I own a large
[17:52] Speaker 2: percentage of this team and I'm out front, like I'm
[17:54] Speaker 2: making all the decisions. So I think that is his
[17:57] Speaker 2: end game. Okay. Today's show is brought to you by
[18:06] Speaker 2: our new presenting sponsor, hard Rock Bet. It's Week three
[18:09] Speaker 2: and if you haven't tried your first bet yet on
[18:11] Speaker 2: hard Rock, there's still time for you to get one
[18:13] Speaker 2: hundred and fifteen bonus bets if you win. Just place
[18:16] Speaker 2: a five dollars bet. If it hits, you not only
[18:18] Speaker 2: get your winnings, but one hundred and fifteen bonus bets.
[18:21] Speaker 2: Thursday Night football is happening AFC East. The Dolphins going
[18:25] Speaker 2: to the Bills. I like the Bills big, not only
[18:27] Speaker 2: to cover the spread, but every prop. When it comes
[18:30] Speaker 2: to Josh Allen, I think he goes nuts, throws several touchdowns,
[18:34] Speaker 2: runs for a touchdown. I like to have a massive
[18:37] Speaker 2: game and dominate the Dolphins. We got big time college
[18:41] Speaker 2: football coming up. I do like a couple underdogs. I
[18:43] Speaker 2: do think Auburn, who played Oklahoma really well last year,
[18:47] Speaker 2: is gonna be feisty in this game. I also think
[18:49] Speaker 2: Texas Tech against Utah, I think you toss pretty good,
[18:52] Speaker 2: but Texas Tech had a bunch of guys come in
[18:54] Speaker 2: to transfer portal. They've spent a lot of money on
[18:56] Speaker 2: this team, as well as TWU Lane against Ole Miss.
[18:59] Speaker 2: I like those underdogs to keep it frisky. Hard Rock
[19:02] Speaker 2: Bet has a new promos every day. This week's there's
[19:05] Speaker 2: profit boost for five straight days of football. That's a
[19:08] Speaker 2: Thursday night profit boost, a Friday college profit boost, another
[19:12] Speaker 2: profit boost, Saturday's college games, plus NFL Sunday like the
[19:16] Speaker 2: Steelers big that weekend, and Monday Night kind of like
[19:19] Speaker 2: the Lions. Let's get it on a couple other NFL stories.
[19:28] Speaker 2: Khalil Mack, it was reported today by Pelisarro and rap
[19:33] Speaker 2: Sheet that his dislocation of his not season ending potentially
[19:38] Speaker 2: could just be several weeks. They put him on that
[19:41] Speaker 2: short term IR so they can bring him back in
[19:43] Speaker 2: four weeks. That is big because I saw Coward today,
[19:48] Speaker 2: Carl Harbaugh, the greatest coach of all time, and he
[19:52] Speaker 2: actually made a pretty compelling point. Like Belichick, Andy Lombardi.
[19:56] Speaker 2: These guys dominating the pros, Sabin Urban, me or whoever
[20:01] Speaker 2: dominated in college. We have never seen a guy go
[20:04] Speaker 2: back and forth, even Pete Carroll, Right, Pete Carroll went
[20:07] Speaker 2: to the NFL, got run out of the NFL, went
[20:10] Speaker 2: to USC, and then went to Seattle. But it's like
[20:14] Speaker 2: Jim Harball was in college, then went to the pros,
[20:17] Speaker 2: then went back to college. Now he's back in the Pros.
[20:20] Speaker 2: It'd be like if Pete, instead of getting the Raiders job,
[20:22] Speaker 2: had jumped back to let's say USC, or just even
[20:26] Speaker 2: another school and one again. Right, it's pretty crazy what
[20:30] Speaker 2: he's doing, especially if he ends up winning a Super Bowl.
[20:32] Speaker 2: I don't know if he's the greatest coach of all time.
[20:34] Speaker 2: He definitely is on the short list when you factor
[20:36] Speaker 2: in college though. And this team is really, really good,
[20:39] Speaker 2: and they have an MVP level quarterback who's playing at
[20:42] Speaker 2: a really high level. Their offense is loaded, but there's
[20:44] Speaker 2: no replacing this guy, you know, he's just they talked
[20:48] Speaker 2: about on the broadcast his leadership. To me, it's the
[20:50] Speaker 2: play like this guy is still a high end run
[20:54] Speaker 2: stuffing guy on the front. He sets the edge and
[20:57] Speaker 2: his pass rush ability might not be like peak Khalil Mack,
[21:01] Speaker 2: but it's still pretty freaking good. There's a reason I
[21:04] Speaker 2: think they gave him what seventeen eighteen million dollars this offseason,
[21:07] Speaker 2: and he's a really good player. If you want to
[21:09] Speaker 2: win a Super Bowl, I do think you need this guy.
[21:11] Speaker 2: And the only reason I was a little apprehensive after
[21:15] Speaker 2: the game talking about the Chargers big picture, it's like
[21:18] Speaker 2: if he just ripped up his arm and is out
[21:19] Speaker 2: for the season, that is a big blow. I know
[21:22] Speaker 2: they got around it in one game against Geno Smith.
[21:25] Speaker 2: It's a different animal when you're playing Lamar Jackson or
[21:28] Speaker 2: Josh Allen or Mahomes in a playoff game, So getting
[21:31] Speaker 2: them back I think he got to be pretty bullish
[21:34] Speaker 2: on the Chargers. Mahomes turned thirty years old today. I'm
[21:37] Speaker 2: always fascinated with guys that have Like if Scotti Scheffler's
[21:42] Speaker 2: career ended today, he had like one of the greatest
[21:44] Speaker 2: careers we've ever seen. If mahomes career ended today, it's
[21:49] Speaker 2: like in his twenties, he went to five Super Bowls.
[21:52] Speaker 2: He never didn't go to the AFC Championship Game. He
[21:55] Speaker 2: won multiple MVPs, he took down some of the greatest,
[21:59] Speaker 2: you know, players of his era. You could argue, you know,
[22:03] Speaker 2: neutralize their career path. I mean, if it wasn't for
[22:06] Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes, do Lamar or specifically Josh have a couple
[22:09] Speaker 2: of Super Bowls?
[22:10] Speaker 3: Right?
[22:11] Speaker 2: Do the Eagles have two? Right? Does Kyle Shanahan have one?
[22:14] Speaker 3: Like?
[22:15] Speaker 2: He altered the trajectory of the National Football League. Think
[22:20] Speaker 2: of what his impact was on Andy Reid. It wasn't
[22:23] Speaker 2: that long ago where people like, you know, Andy can't
[22:25] Speaker 2: win the Big One, which is kind of stupid when
[22:27] Speaker 2: you really think about it. But he went from not
[22:29] Speaker 2: being able to win the Big One to being one
[22:31] Speaker 2: of the greatest coaches we've ever seen. So props to Mahomes,
[22:35] Speaker 2: who just had a pretty incredible twenties. Now the likelihood
[22:41] Speaker 2: that he can continue this obviously this year has been
[22:46] Speaker 2: a little rocky, but even let's say they go ten
[22:48] Speaker 2: and seven and they get bounced in the first round.
[22:50] Speaker 2: Just big picture, like, what's you're over under on how
[22:53] Speaker 2: many more Super Bowls Patrick Mahomes gets to. I would
[22:56] Speaker 2: say this, it's got to be at least one because
[23:00] Speaker 2: he has a great coach, they have a good infrastructure.
[23:04] Speaker 2: They are gonna need to replace some players, right, I
[23:07] Speaker 2: feel pretty confidence saying this will be Travis Kelsey's last
[23:10] Speaker 2: year in the NFL, Like they are going to need
[23:13] Speaker 2: a key offensive weapons, specifically a tight end. And Chris Jones,
[23:17] Speaker 2: Like how many big time years does he have left?
[23:19] Speaker 2: So they're gonna need another big time defensive lineman and
[23:22] Speaker 2: they're never gonna be really shitty, So how are they
[23:24] Speaker 2: going to replace these guys? Luckily they have a GM
[23:27] Speaker 2: and a coach that have made some incredible moves over
[23:30] Speaker 2: the years. But if he's gonna have his you know,
[23:35] Speaker 2: like when Peyton went to Denver. Obviously Mahomes isn't chain
[23:38] Speaker 2: of teams, but I would say that the parallel would
[23:42] Speaker 2: be Brady and that Gorenkowski, Edelman, mccordy, high Tower, some
[23:50] Speaker 2: of those guys. It's just gonna be out of his
[23:55] Speaker 2: control and it's gonna be a lot of pressure on
[23:57] Speaker 2: Beach to get a lot of things right moving forward.
[23:59] Speaker 2: But I would not bet against the Chiefs big picture,
[24:02] Speaker 2: even if this year is quote unquote underwhelming, you know,
[24:06] Speaker 2: for their what their expectations. And last but not least
[24:11] Speaker 2: is Jordan Mylotta had some comments about he thought it
[24:14] Speaker 2: was disrespectful saying the Eagles won that game because of
[24:17] Speaker 2: the Tush push, And I don't totally disagree, but I
[24:22] Speaker 2: I do think the Eagles probably. It feels like in
[24:25] Speaker 2: a short period of time, like the way people were
[24:27] Speaker 2: talking about the Chiefs, people are just like, I'm just
[24:29] Speaker 2: tired of the Chiefs. I'm just tired of the Chiefs.
[24:32] Speaker 2: It happens in basketball sometimes, like can anyone else win
[24:35] Speaker 2: beside Lebron or Curry? Like, and I get it, like
[24:38] Speaker 2: if you're not a fan of one of these specific
[24:40] Speaker 2: teams or this specific player, even if you like the sport,
[24:43] Speaker 2: you're like, can we just get something new? And then
[24:45] Speaker 2: you get something new? And I like see the ratings like,
[24:47] Speaker 2: well I gave you the Oklahoma City Thunder. Why aren't
[24:49] Speaker 2: you watching?
[24:50] Speaker 3: Right?
[24:50] Speaker 2: I mean, there's there's something to be said. It's like
[24:52] Speaker 2: can anyone win beside the Yankees? I remember thinking that
[24:55] Speaker 2: when I was a kid. It's like then the Yankees disappeared,
[24:57] Speaker 2: and you get like the Marlins. It's like, people, aren't
[25:00] Speaker 2: this world series fellas Marlins? Or like Diamondbacks versus the
[25:04] Speaker 2: Rockies versus White Sox. It's like sometimes you got it
[25:08] Speaker 2: pretty good. But I do think the Eagles quickly or
[25:12] Speaker 2: like a lot of people are gonna start rooting against them,
[25:15] Speaker 2: and the tush push is just one of those. It's
[25:18] Speaker 2: probably the most polarizing play of all time because you
[25:20] Speaker 2: could be like the wild cat is gonna take over
[25:22] Speaker 2: the league. We've had situations like that, the spread offense,
[25:25] Speaker 2: the pistol. This is just one specific play that only
[25:29] Speaker 2: one team can run and they we know it's inevitable,
[25:32] Speaker 2: and people are just rooting against them, and then it
[25:34] Speaker 2: brings into Jalen Hurts. It's like this guy just won
[25:38] Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, has played fantastic in two Super Bowls, obviously,
[25:42] Speaker 2: has had some huge moments in his short career. Wally
[25:46] Speaker 2: pipped in the blink of an e Carson Wentz and
[25:49] Speaker 2: took the Eagles to another level, and people's like, is
[25:52] Speaker 2: he good? And I looked at hey, like, how many
[25:54] Speaker 2: yards does he after two games? Obviously he didn't have
[25:56] Speaker 2: many yards against the Chiefs because Chris Jones, you know,
[26:00] Speaker 2: he has two hundred and fifty yards passing in two games.
[26:03] Speaker 2: He has no passing touchdowns. Now, granted he has three
[26:05] Speaker 2: on the ground, obviously a couple toush pushes, But I
[26:09] Speaker 2: just think people are gonna start rooting against them, and
[26:11] Speaker 2: last year or last couple of years, the big domb
[26:14] Speaker 2: thing they've kind of been fun. They have this you
[26:16] Speaker 2: know GM, but you got Siriani. I saw him doing
[26:19] Speaker 2: this thing like singing eminem on the way to the
[26:21] Speaker 2: locker room. I just think that they might just jump
[26:26] Speaker 2: the chiefs of someone that everyone is just gonna root
[26:29] Speaker 2: against beside Eagles fans, and Eagles fans are gonna eat
[26:32] Speaker 2: this up because they naturally have a chip on their shoulder.
[26:34] Speaker 2: We're finally good, the defending champs, and everyone's talking about us.
[26:38] Speaker 2: This is a big weekend because I think the Rams.
[26:41] Speaker 2: If you're not an Eagles fan, everyone's rooting for the Rams.
[26:44] Speaker 2: And obviously the Rams were right there last year. If
[26:47] Speaker 2: they could somehow corral Jalen, who had a you know,
[26:50] Speaker 2: awesome run that opened up the game against him and
[26:53] Speaker 2: it's just a threat on the ground, can just corral
[26:55] Speaker 2: him a little bit and make him beat you with
[26:57] Speaker 2: his arm. So far this season, he hasn't proven that.
[26:59] Speaker 2: And the crazy thing about despite being two to zero
[27:01] Speaker 2: defending champs, a little undercurrent. I saw like a reddit board,
[27:07] Speaker 2: I saw some comments there was something the Eagles put
[27:09] Speaker 2: out in the comments on Instagram, the offensive coordinator better
[27:14] Speaker 2: get some passing yards and some passing touchdowns here really soon,
[27:17] Speaker 2: or people are gonna get grapchy so that there's always
[27:20] Speaker 2: something bubbling even when times are good. In Philly, I
[27:24] Speaker 2: not only have worked there, but I follow that team
[27:26] Speaker 2: really closely, and I can already see the offensive coordinator
[27:29] Speaker 2: being a little under fire being asked some questions. Not
[27:31] Speaker 2: like he's gonna get fire in the middle of the year,
[27:33] Speaker 2: but it's just it's one of those things. They can
[27:35] Speaker 2: never quite be too happy. And I think that game
[27:40] Speaker 2: it's it's it's a big one for the Rams, you
[27:43] Speaker 2: know the Eagles. The other thing, looking at the Eagles schedule,
[27:47] Speaker 2: even if they were to win this, their schedules is
[27:49] Speaker 2: really hard, so you know, and you look at the
[27:51] Speaker 2: Green Bay Packers, you look at the Rams. I mean,
[27:54] Speaker 2: getting the one seed in both conferences, it's just really
[27:57] Speaker 2: important given that there's only one team that gets a
[27:59] Speaker 2: buy now, and we know as the season drags on
[28:03] Speaker 2: that that buy is. I don't even think we talk
[28:05] Speaker 2: about it enough because we're just so accustomed for so
[28:08] Speaker 2: long that it's like, hey, just one of the top
[28:10] Speaker 2: two seeds. You get a breather. That's that's a big
[28:12] Speaker 2: difference getting that, you know, two seed, It's like, well,
[28:16] Speaker 2: you gotta play sometimes you gotta play like Sunday night.
[28:18] Speaker 2: You gotta play a good opponent. It's not necessarily easy.
[28:21] Speaker 2: So fascinating to watch the the conversation around the Philadelphia Eagles.
[28:41] Speaker 2: Very excited, fired up. This man is, you know, been
[28:44] Speaker 2: up well before me and I feel like I got
[28:46] Speaker 2: up pretty early this morning. Chicago native, New York resident.
[28:51] Speaker 2: You can find him on Good Morning Football and everywhere.
[28:54] Speaker 2: Kyle Bryant, what's up, bro?
[28:56] Speaker 1: You man John, I'm thrilled to be here. I'm a
[28:59] Speaker 1: fan of yours, follow yours. I'm thrilled to see that
[29:02] Speaker 1: you have the real tasteful lighting and the really expensive
[29:04] Speaker 1: looking microphone. You're technologically savvy and your content's great. And
[29:08] Speaker 1: thanks for having me.
[29:10] Speaker 2: No, you know, coward and the volume had to send
[29:12] Speaker 2: some people out because I would I would have had
[29:14] Speaker 2: the USB MIC, I would have had a Logy tech camera,
[29:18] Speaker 2: you know, I get for sure. You know, actually I
[29:23] Speaker 2: had never I've been to most major cities in America,
[29:26] Speaker 2: but I had never been to Chicago. And probably you know,
[29:30] Speaker 2: a week into training camp, I went out. I actually
[29:32] Speaker 2: got to stay at uh stay with Colin and in
[29:35] Speaker 2: the suburbs. The place is beautiful, man, I mean, what
[29:38] Speaker 2: what a what a beautiful I know it gets a
[29:40] Speaker 2: little cold in the winter, and I listen, I'm an
[29:42] Speaker 2: Arizona guy. I like my heat. But Chicago, I get it,
[29:47] Speaker 2: like I I understand it because we're he's showing me place.
[29:50] Speaker 2: I'm like, this place badass, and then he's showing me
[29:52] Speaker 2: the prices, you know, and I'm like, this is way
[29:55] Speaker 2: cheaper coming. I lived in California for a long time,
[29:57] Speaker 2: even Scottsdale. I'm like, you, guys, it's just it's not
[30:00] Speaker 2: very We had a nice dinner. It was like one
[30:01] Speaker 2: hundred bucks. I'm like, this is Midwest living.
[30:04] Speaker 1: I know it's a sad commentary when you moved to Chicago,
[30:07] Speaker 1: of all places, and it's cheaper where you live, But
[30:09] Speaker 1: I totally get it.
[30:11] Speaker 3: I grew up there.
[30:11] Speaker 1: Like the magic of Chicago for me was always I
[30:14] Speaker 1: grew up in the North suburbs where the Bears facility is,
[30:16] Speaker 1: and it's where all of those eighties movies were shot,
[30:19] Speaker 1: like Ferris Bueller and Breakfast Club and Weird Science and
[30:22] Speaker 1: all those John Hughes movies.
[30:23] Speaker 3: I'm Home Alone, plains, trains and automobiles.
[30:26] Speaker 1: So like I lived in those actual towns where those
[30:28] Speaker 1: characters were from.
[30:29] Speaker 3: And then if you go in the city, it's beautiful too.
[30:31] Speaker 1: The only problem with Chicago is the city is that
[30:33] Speaker 1: when it comes to professional football, they suck.
[30:36] Speaker 3: But other than that, like they've got a lot going
[30:38] Speaker 3: for them.
[30:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to dive into the bears. You know
[30:42] Speaker 2: what's funny is over my wife speaking about Home Alone,
[30:44] Speaker 2: My wife showed me this video. At the hotel in
[30:48] Speaker 2: New York, you can get the ice cream Sunday order
[30:51] Speaker 2: that McAuley culkin ordered, and it's Do you know how
[30:54] Speaker 2: much money it costs?
[30:56] Speaker 3: No?
[30:56] Speaker 1: I know that the McAllister family had big money, but
[30:59] Speaker 1: I don't know the This is the Sunday at the
[31:01] Speaker 1: Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
[31:03] Speaker 2: This is the ice cream. Now they've done it up.
[31:04] Speaker 2: They've added you know, it's like eighteen scoops but all
[31:07] Speaker 2: the you know, it comes with hot carmel, but it
[31:10] Speaker 2: could feed it could feed a staff.
[31:13] Speaker 3: What's the price?
[31:14] Speaker 2: Four hundred and fifty dollars.
[31:16] Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I was gonna bet two hundred bucks
[31:18] Speaker 1: for a Sunday four point fifty and you can get
[31:21] Speaker 1: the McAllister Sunday. Tim Curry doesn't bring it to unfortunately,
[31:25] Speaker 1: but I mean I would throw down with that.
[31:27] Speaker 3: Here's a fun thing about that hotel.
[31:29] Speaker 1: In the scene and Home Alone two, Kevin McAllister like
[31:32] Speaker 1: jumps into the pool and like loses his bathing suit.
[31:34] Speaker 3: It's a funny moment.
[31:36] Speaker 1: There is no pool at the Plaza and that was
[31:38] Speaker 1: shot in downtown Chicago, like they in a different hotel. Like,
[31:40] Speaker 1: I know all about that stuff. You know me, I
[31:42] Speaker 1: know stupid nonsense from the nineties. That's my wheelhouse.
[31:45] Speaker 2: You know what's funny is you're a couple years older
[31:47] Speaker 2: than me, But I I anyone. I was born in
[31:50] Speaker 2: the mid eighties, you know, from Sylvester Sloan to Arnold
[31:53] Speaker 2: to My two favorite movies as a kid, by far
[31:56] Speaker 2: were The Rock and con Air and the action movies.
[32:00] Speaker 2: You know, my wife she's not as into it. I'm like, hey,
[32:03] Speaker 2: you want to watch Demolition Man. She's like, what is
[32:05] Speaker 2: this I have? And we're watching and I was thinking
[32:08] Speaker 2: last night, we're watching the show Task. It's on HBO.
[32:11] Speaker 2: It's actually pretty good through too, but like the the
[32:14] Speaker 2: action movie and definitely the action star feels kind of dead.
[32:19] Speaker 2: I mean, it definitely peaked in that group of guys
[32:22] Speaker 2: that were just it just doesn't feel like it's ever
[32:24] Speaker 2: coming back. You could argue, and I've always said this
[32:26] Speaker 2: about like fame, like Michael Jackson or Michael Jordan or
[32:29] Speaker 2: you know, even go Elvis Presley pre Internet fame is
[32:32] Speaker 2: a different level than whatever we got going on now,
[32:35] Speaker 2: which listen, I mean, I built businesses based on the Internet,
[32:38] Speaker 2: so I'm not anti the Internet, but it's a little
[32:41] Speaker 2: different world. And I kind of miss those days of
[32:43] Speaker 2: just like when the Rock would come out and you
[32:45] Speaker 2: knew every single human being you knew was gonna try
[32:48] Speaker 2: to see that thing.
[32:49] Speaker 1: I know, and I listen, I was thinking about this
[32:51] Speaker 1: yesterday when we found out that Robert Redford died. Is
[32:55] Speaker 1: that like there was a time when when a stallone
[32:58] Speaker 1: movie came out or a Switched Nagger movie that everyone
[33:01] Speaker 1: just you went to the theater.
[33:03] Speaker 3: There was no conversation about it. You were going to
[33:04] Speaker 3: see it.
[33:05] Speaker 1: And like the movie stars and the action stars, they
[33:07] Speaker 1: weren't showing up in like TV shows.
[33:10] Speaker 3: There certainly weren't being in commercials. There was no Internet.
[33:12] Speaker 1: It was just once a year you would drive to
[33:15] Speaker 1: the movie theater and pay eight to nine ten bucks
[33:18] Speaker 1: to see that movie star, and then you'll see him
[33:19] Speaker 1: again a year from now. It's not like you know
[33:21] Speaker 1: action movies now, John, It's like I could go on
[33:24] Speaker 1: any of the streamers and there's like fifty different kind
[33:26] Speaker 1: of okay movies where like I don't know, Chris Hemsworth
[33:30] Speaker 1: is like kicking ass or something, or anybody I don't
[33:32] Speaker 1: even know who it.
[33:32] Speaker 3: Is, and they're fine. Just doesn't it just doesn't have
[33:35] Speaker 3: that same charm. And I missed that day. Those days
[33:38] Speaker 3: a lot.
[33:39] Speaker 2: I even think about. You know, you worked for Jim Rome. Yeah,
[33:42] Speaker 2: and you know I was born and raised in northern California,
[33:45] Speaker 2: so obviously Rome hit it big. But on the West coast,
[33:48] Speaker 2: what's up, John, I're doing?
[33:50] Speaker 3: Man?
[33:50] Speaker 2: There was nothing like it. So you know someone in
[33:53] Speaker 2: the late nineties, early two thousands now and back then
[33:55] Speaker 2: he was talking a lot of baseball. But I just
[33:57] Speaker 2: remember this guy talked sports for three hours, just talking shit.
[34:00] Speaker 2: And you'd have like Mark Grayson, and you'd even have
[34:03] Speaker 2: like Steve Elkington was an incredible golf guest, way ahead
[34:06] Speaker 2: of its time. And I did I had no clue
[34:09] Speaker 2: what he looked like, you know. And I used to
[34:11] Speaker 2: listen to Love Line with Corolla and Doctor Druid. That
[34:14] Speaker 2: was just a legendary ahead of its time show. But
[34:17] Speaker 2: you had no clue what these human beings look I
[34:20] Speaker 2: can't imagine listening to someone right now and not googling
[34:22] Speaker 2: them immediately and knowing their entire life story. Just it
[34:25] Speaker 2: just was a simpler time.
[34:26] Speaker 1: You know, it truly was, and you just driving your
[34:29] Speaker 1: car and listen. I was a big obviously, Rome was
[34:31] Speaker 1: a huge, huge deal to me and it means a
[34:32] Speaker 1: lot to me. But the Love Line thing was, you
[34:35] Speaker 1: would I remember listening to my car and it would
[34:37] Speaker 1: be like some girl would call up and she's like, well,
[34:40] Speaker 1: you know, I've been cutting myself because my boyfriend won't
[34:44] Speaker 1: talk to me. And then Corolla would always go, okay,
[34:47] Speaker 1: perfectly normal, perfectly healthy, and we'd laugh about it.
[34:50] Speaker 3: I missed Love Line so much.
[34:51] Speaker 2: Well, they'd have them like porn stars. You're like, like,
[34:54] Speaker 2: look around, make sure my mom wasn't walking around the
[34:56] Speaker 2: corner a ten o'clock at night. Uh, really quick? Good
[35:00] Speaker 2: morning football?
[35:01] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[35:02] Speaker 2: I tried attempted to do some fill in local radio
[35:07] Speaker 2: morning show. And I remember thinking, like this is not
[35:09] Speaker 2: for me, not that I'm not a morning person, but
[35:11] Speaker 2: when you're in the entertainment business, whether TV rate, you
[35:14] Speaker 2: got to be peaking. When that light comes on at
[35:16] Speaker 2: six am, you know you've been doing it. Now what for?
[35:19] Speaker 2: I mean almost going on a decade, right, this is
[35:21] Speaker 2: my tight season, So you ever get used to it?
[35:25] Speaker 2: You know, what time does the alarm clock go off?
[35:27] Speaker 2: Your schedule of eating, working out, your family. I mean,
[35:31] Speaker 2: that's nuts.
[35:31] Speaker 3: It's a good question.
[35:32] Speaker 1: When we started in twenty sixteen, I was getting up.
[35:36] Speaker 1: I remember I would set the alarm for four to
[35:38] Speaker 1: twelve am, not four, not four fifteen, because like I
[35:43] Speaker 1: needed those extra twelve minutes of sleep, But if I
[35:45] Speaker 1: set it for like four fifteen, like I needed the
[35:47] Speaker 1: three minutes to get ready, it was that that crazy.
[35:50] Speaker 3: And now like now I wake up significantly later. Now
[35:52] Speaker 3: it's still before six.
[35:54] Speaker 1: But back then I would have to get up and
[35:55] Speaker 1: like prepare for two hours to do the show. Like
[35:57] Speaker 1: I would sit there for two hours and think of
[35:59] Speaker 1: what I was going to say. And now I can
[36:02] Speaker 1: really kind of improv the stuff. But it is a lifestyle,
[36:05] Speaker 1: and you know, I'm at the point and John, you
[36:08] Speaker 1: understand this, like where I will get messages online or
[36:12] Speaker 1: just people who I meet in the street who were like,
[36:14] Speaker 1: I'm young and I want to get into media, and
[36:15] Speaker 1: I had opinions about sports like what should I do?
[36:18] Speaker 3: How can you help me? And what I always say
[36:22] Speaker 3: is just energy is.
[36:24] Speaker 1: Something people are always looking for, like the higher ups
[36:27] Speaker 1: or the suits or the decision makers.
[36:29] Speaker 3: Energy is such an underrated asset.
[36:32] Speaker 1: You can take all of the knowledge, you can be telegenic,
[36:35] Speaker 1: you can be creative. If you go before behind a
[36:38] Speaker 1: microphone or camera and your low energy, it doesn't work.
[36:42] Speaker 1: It's very difficult to be low energy and work. Whereas
[36:47] Speaker 1: my thing when I started on camera, I wasn't very
[36:49] Speaker 1: good at the time and I didn't have a ton
[36:51] Speaker 1: to say, but damn man, I had high energy and
[36:54] Speaker 1: you could you could feel it when I came out.
[36:56] Speaker 1: So if you're starting off energy, if they're in it
[36:59] Speaker 1: is they're trying to hire somebody for a talk show
[37:01] Speaker 1: or a podcast between you and somebody else.
[37:03] Speaker 3: That other person might be brilliant.
[37:06] Speaker 1: And so insightful, but if you out energy them, it
[37:10] Speaker 1: is really an equalizer. So bring it and in a
[37:12] Speaker 1: morning show like you have no choice. You can't be
[37:14] Speaker 1: born in a morning show.
[37:15] Speaker 2: Do you have to think about Obviously, you know you're
[37:18] Speaker 2: under the NFL umbrella. And I was watching you on
[37:21] Speaker 2: Dan Patrick probably a couple of weeks ago, when you
[37:23] Speaker 2: were talking like you've been critical, and I agree with
[37:25] Speaker 2: you on the Tomlin thing of the Andy Reid kind
[37:28] Speaker 2: of parallel. I think, sure, you know, if he became available,
[37:30] Speaker 2: he'd be the number one candidate for whoever needed a gig.
[37:33] Speaker 2: So it's not like people saying he needs a fresh
[37:35] Speaker 2: start means he stinks. He would immediately get a gig
[37:38] Speaker 2: and probably have a lot of success. But when you
[37:41] Speaker 2: broach those topics you got to you're on in probably
[37:44] Speaker 2: every building, a ton of gms, a lot of owners,
[37:47] Speaker 2: any sort of You've been doing it long enough now
[37:50] Speaker 2: to kind of know where you can and can't go. Probably,
[37:53] Speaker 2: But have you had some incidents where people have reached
[37:55] Speaker 2: out and said, like, bro, that's not gonna fly.
[37:57] Speaker 1: It's a really good question, and I have a really
[38:00] Speaker 1: simple answer. And I have done almost ten years and
[38:04] Speaker 1: over two thousand episodes of Good Morning Football on the
[38:08] Speaker 1: NFL's media branch, and not a single time have I
[38:12] Speaker 1: been told don't talk about this. Stay away from this.
[38:15] Speaker 1: They really really let me and let us do a show.
[38:20] Speaker 1: I don't have directives where they don't stay away from
[38:22] Speaker 1: officiating on this.
[38:23] Speaker 3: Don't show this, don't show this. I'm telling you you
[38:26] Speaker 3: know how.
[38:26] Speaker 1: I know that because in twenty sixteen, when we started
[38:29] Speaker 1: the whole point of the show, John was like, hey,
[38:31] Speaker 1: all right, let's get some mourning energy and some fun
[38:34] Speaker 1: and the positivity of football.
[38:36] Speaker 3: And it's fun, fun, fun, fun fun.
[38:38] Speaker 1: And ten minutes into our first season, Colin Kaepernick takes
[38:41] Speaker 1: a knee and it's all anybody was talking about. So
[38:43] Speaker 1: we were baptized by that and Trump those sobs calling
[38:48] Speaker 1: them and freedom and First Amendment.
[38:51] Speaker 3: It was like it was very important, but it was
[38:53] Speaker 3: not terribly fun.
[38:54] Speaker 1: And since then, I mean, we've been through anything you
[38:57] Speaker 1: can think of, from Deshaun Watson to all kinds of
[39:01] Speaker 1: you know, concussion research and prevention, the things that are
[39:04] Speaker 1: really really important topics and polarizing times.
[39:06] Speaker 3: We talk about all of it.
[39:08] Speaker 1: And I promise you I've never even so much have
[39:10] Speaker 1: gotten an email saying, hey, we don't really like the
[39:13] Speaker 1: direction you went on.
[39:14] Speaker 3: That it's incredible. I promise it's true.
[39:16] Speaker 2: Well, let's hit on a topic, because I totally understand
[39:20] Speaker 2: if I'm Tom Brady and Mark Davis reaches out like
[39:22] Speaker 2: you want to own a piece. Oh yeah, I mean
[39:24] Speaker 2: it's a tough country club to get involved in. Totally
[39:27] Speaker 2: understand when Fox reaches out. When Tom I'm pretty sure
[39:29] Speaker 2: was still playing, Hey, you want about four hundred million
[39:31] Speaker 2: dollars to call games with Kevin Burkhart, I probably would
[39:34] Speaker 2: have said yes too. So both those two things, no
[39:36] Speaker 2: one blames them for being involved. I do think for
[39:39] Speaker 2: the first time, if I'm Andy Reid in my office
[39:41] Speaker 2: or Sean Payton in my office and I looked up
[39:43] Speaker 2: on that Monday night game where I'm sure in their
[39:45] Speaker 2: offices that game was going and see Tom with a
[39:47] Speaker 2: headset their division specifically got a little uncomfortable, even though
[39:53] Speaker 2: nothing actually changed. We knew that he was a part owner,
[39:56] Speaker 2: we knew that he's involved the spy tech talks about
[39:58] Speaker 2: all the time they talk. We know he's calling these games,
[40:01] Speaker 2: but that visual Sometimes I believe optics can be pretty overrated.
[40:06] Speaker 2: That word, but that wasn't optics where if I'm the
[40:09] Speaker 2: Chiefs or the Broncos, you might not be my competition.
[40:12] Speaker 2: In twenty twenty five, But that was one of those
[40:15] Speaker 2: things where it's like, whoa, guys, this somethings. I don't
[40:18] Speaker 2: know what's gotta change, but this makes me uncomfortable it.
[40:22] Speaker 3: I have so many different responses.
[40:24] Speaker 1: The first one is like, all right, so Brady's involved,
[40:26] Speaker 1: and he's got the headset on and he's the greatest
[40:28] Speaker 1: football mind ever, He's the greatest quarterback ever.
[40:31] Speaker 3: First of all, why does the Raiders' offense suck? Then?
[40:33] Speaker 1: Why is it so terrible? They're in the home opener
[40:35] Speaker 1: and they can't even score a touchdown?
[40:37] Speaker 3: What is he keepn providing to the Raiders? Whatever he's
[40:40] Speaker 3: getting from the.
[40:40] Speaker 1: Other teams isn't meaning anything because the Raiders look awful.
[40:43] Speaker 1: The second reason that everyone has such a visceral reaction
[40:46] Speaker 1: to this is because we're back at that old classic
[40:51] Speaker 1: of Tom.
[40:52] Speaker 3: Brady and impropriety. I mean, we rode that thing for
[40:56] Speaker 3: a decade.
[40:57] Speaker 1: That inflated football is a spy gate, Like that was
[41:00] Speaker 1: all the stuff that cooked for a while.
[41:01] Speaker 3: And I've seen people being like, he's at it again.
[41:04] Speaker 3: This is the Brady model. Make it a gate.
[41:07] Speaker 1: Just slap the word gate on anything Brady does and
[41:10] Speaker 1: we'll run with it.
[41:12] Speaker 3: My last response is you mentioned some.
[41:14] Speaker 1: People like Andy Reid or whoever it may be around
[41:17] Speaker 1: around the world, and they talk about these production meetings
[41:20] Speaker 1: where that you meet with Tom Brady apparently remotely only
[41:23] Speaker 1: because he's not allowed in. If someone has a problem
[41:26] Speaker 1: with this, then make a power move and say to
[41:29] Speaker 1: the network, I will not allow Tom Brady to be
[41:32] Speaker 1: in this meeting, and I'm not comfortable with it. I
[41:33] Speaker 1: don't think it's appropriate. Go ahead and say it. Make
[41:36] Speaker 1: a stance. You may even get end up getting fined
[41:38] Speaker 1: or whatever, but it would stand for what everyone is
[41:41] Speaker 1: talking about, or screw it, you don't really care. And
[41:44] Speaker 1: I think Brady's just sitting there listen, I'm not really
[41:46] Speaker 1: don't really have anything to hide.
[41:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good point. I have a hard time
[41:50] Speaker 2: seeing anyone probably draw that line, because last time I checked,
[41:52] Speaker 2: these networks pay a lot of money. So, uh, you know,
[41:57] Speaker 2: one thing I wrote down that's probably riding your wheelhouse.
[41:58] Speaker 2: So let's use this analogy. Mayfield, he's kind of like
[42:00] Speaker 2: a childhood actor, you know, when you just a star
[42:03] Speaker 2: in college, Heisman Trophy and just on the scene. Lincoln Riley, Baker, Mayfield,
[42:07] Speaker 2: all these other NFL starf people forget Ceedee Lamb, Hollywood Brown,
[42:11] Speaker 2: Joe Mixon. I mean, his teams were stacked and he
[42:14] Speaker 2: was the leader. Then he gets to the NFL disaster
[42:17] Speaker 2: kind of like having a drug problem or something. Just like, whoa,
[42:19] Speaker 2: this is great. I love now he is. Now he
[42:22] Speaker 2: is resurrect. I just watched the Charlie Sheendock, which is
[42:25] Speaker 2: quite the wild ride. Yeah, and then now Baker Mayfield
[42:29] Speaker 2: is just you can't take your eyes off him. I mean,
[42:32] Speaker 2: he's he's kind of got. I mean we compared Mahomes
[42:36] Speaker 2: to like the Curry Farv. Baker's always had a little
[42:38] Speaker 2: bit of that to him, and you know, it definitely
[42:42] Speaker 2: disappeared in Cleveland and obviously Carolina. It feels like it's
[42:44] Speaker 2: a little back you know that far Van just kind
[42:47] Speaker 2: of electric lights are on and it's fun. I don't
[42:51] Speaker 2: know what to say besides Tampa's on, Baker's on. You
[42:55] Speaker 2: gotta watch because it's.
[42:56] Speaker 1: Been a career so many things that you just said there.
[43:00] Speaker 1: I thought the perfect word is Farvian. And I know
[43:03] Speaker 1: that Brett Farv has taken a lot of hits over
[43:04] Speaker 1: the last few years, and much to his own doing,
[43:06] Speaker 1: And it's fine but like it's it's probably the most
[43:09] Speaker 1: watchable NFL quarterback in NFL history. Like if you were
[43:12] Speaker 1: back then in the nineties, like no one could take
[43:15] Speaker 1: their eyes off far. It was pure charisma, it was
[43:17] Speaker 1: all fun, it was all positive.
[43:19] Speaker 3: And Baker has that going on to child star analogy.
[43:23] Speaker 1: Baker's now like the one who made it though, like
[43:26] Speaker 1: Baker's Jody Foster or Baker's Elijah Wood or Daniel Radcliffe,
[43:30] Speaker 1: Like they are respected and they are on their own
[43:33] Speaker 1: two feet and they're still.
[43:34] Speaker 3: Doing amazing work even though they were a child star.
[43:37] Speaker 1: My Baker story is, for the last two years, I
[43:41] Speaker 1: worked like the Pro Bowl games. Okay, so people want
[43:44] Speaker 1: to roll their eyes about the Pro Bowl. It's a
[43:46] Speaker 1: really fun event to go to. I go down to Orlando,
[43:49] Speaker 1: I take my son and we just mess around. And
[43:51] Speaker 1: this year we stayed in the player's hotel. I took
[43:54] Speaker 1: my son out to Orlando. We went to every single
[43:56] Speaker 1: goat kart, batting cage, video, arcade place. Orlando is just
[43:59] Speaker 1: a series of attractions lined up next to each other.
[44:02] Speaker 1: We get back to the hotel kind of late. It's
[44:04] Speaker 1: the night before the Big Games. The next day, big
[44:07] Speaker 1: lobby bar loaded with people. I don't see any players
[44:11] Speaker 1: except for one who is Baker Mayfield physically forcing people
[44:16] Speaker 1: to put.
[44:16] Speaker 3: Things on his tab. I got that drink, I got
[44:19] Speaker 3: that drink.
[44:19] Speaker 1: Pick up their drink, pick up theirs too, not even
[44:22] Speaker 1: like his teammates, just people around the bar.
[44:25] Speaker 3: Next morning, we gotta get up early for breakfast. Baker
[44:28] Speaker 3: is in the breakfast restaurant at.
[44:30] Speaker 1: The hotel, working the tables like he's a groom at
[44:34] Speaker 1: a wedding. And by working, I mean meeting kids, signing hats.
[44:37] Speaker 1: Comes to my say, but oh, is this your son?
[44:39] Speaker 1: How you doing? I'm Baker. I'm not naive about this.
[44:42] Speaker 1: I've been around athletes.
[44:43] Speaker 3: All the time.
[44:44] Speaker 1: I have never seen someone hit it that hard at night,
[44:47] Speaker 1: work the crowd, and then the next morning is like
[44:50] Speaker 1: the President's and it's totally authentic.
[44:52] Speaker 3: I loved it.
[44:53] Speaker 1: There were no cameras rolling on and he just did it.
[44:55] Speaker 1: And I think that's what people are seeing on the field.
[44:57] Speaker 2: You know, we talk a lot about during draft time
[45:00] Speaker 2: players and obviously tangible assets like Caleb's got a big arm,
[45:04] Speaker 2: or this guy can run really fast, this guy's really tall.
[45:07] Speaker 2: But I think the one cool part about like this
[45:09] Speaker 2: era of Mahomes Josh Lamar, I throw a burrow in there.
[45:12] Speaker 2: It looks like Herbert's really morphing into this is like
[45:15] Speaker 2: off the field, you know, you talk to Veach, you
[45:17] Speaker 2: talk to Andy, the way they talk about Mahomes back
[45:20] Speaker 2: he's thirty today, but like five six years ago when
[45:22] Speaker 2: he was younger, or obviously Josh or Lamar. How much
[45:25] Speaker 2: people gravitate towards the human being. And you know, it's
[45:28] Speaker 2: hard during the draft period because most human beings don't
[45:31] Speaker 2: know these guys. But like when these stories come out
[45:33] Speaker 2: of like, eh, something's a little awful with this guy
[45:36] Speaker 2: at quarterback, that's a I know you're a big Josh
[45:39] Speaker 2: Allen guy. Like that's a really big deal. And you know,
[45:42] Speaker 2: when I think about the two best quarterbacks really of
[45:44] Speaker 2: my adult life would be Peyton and obviously Tom. Tom's
[45:47] Speaker 2: knowns like the greatest teammate of all time, not the
[45:50] Speaker 2: greatest quarterback, but these guys that play with them. I
[45:52] Speaker 2: know people that played with Philip Rivers, they swear by
[45:55] Speaker 2: the guy or Matt Stafford, and I think that's a
[45:57] Speaker 2: defining attribute of these guys. Why these young players like
[46:00] Speaker 2: we'll see with Caleb'll see with JJ if they're gonna
[46:02] Speaker 2: be good enough. But that off the field can buy
[46:04] Speaker 2: you more time when it's like I love this guy.
[46:07] Speaker 2: I'm gonna see with JJ, Like, are they gonna splinter
[46:10] Speaker 2: on him? Well, if they like him enough, they will
[46:12] Speaker 2: give him a little bit of extra runway, even if
[46:15] Speaker 2: it's as rocky as a spin.
[46:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean listen, access to to franchise quarterbacks is
[46:21] Speaker 1: so interesting, even if it's ten to twelve minutes at
[46:23] Speaker 1: a time, which it usually is, just to watch how
[46:25] Speaker 1: they act and watch how they talk to people. Josh
[46:28] Speaker 1: Allen is a human labrador. He's so lovable, and he's
[46:31] Speaker 1: wags his tail the whole time, and he's got this
[46:33] Speaker 1: youthful energy.
[46:34] Speaker 3: I'll tell you, John, the most interesting one I've ever
[46:36] Speaker 3: been around.
[46:37] Speaker 1: And it was last week and I hung out with
[46:39] Speaker 1: Joe Burrow and I went to the Bengals facility.
[46:41] Speaker 3: He's injured. Now.
[46:42] Speaker 1: This was right before that Jaguars game. I flew to Cincinnati,
[46:46] Speaker 1: went in the stadium. Had never sat with Joe Burrow before,
[46:49] Speaker 1: but I sat with him for almost twenty minutes. And
[46:53] Speaker 1: I don't I've definitely never interviewed someone like him. I
[46:55] Speaker 1: don't think i've ever talked to someone like him in
[46:58] Speaker 1: any walk of life. He's straight up to me on camera.
[47:01] Speaker 1: He says, I have a hard time interacting with people sometimes,
[47:05] Speaker 1: like it's uncomfortable for me. And he says sometimes he
[47:09] Speaker 1: gets judged by the facial expressions he has or the
[47:12] Speaker 1: lack of emotion that he shows. And he is a
[47:14] Speaker 1: guy who I don't I think is kind of struggling
[47:17] Speaker 1: to be comfortable in his own skin. And he's like,
[47:19] Speaker 1: there's not a lot of people I can talk to
[47:21] Speaker 1: about it because no one kind of has this type
[47:24] Speaker 1: of life, Like who can I go to? You know,
[47:27] Speaker 1: I'm paraphrasing, But he's got the look and the fame
[47:29] Speaker 1: and the money and all that. I'm like, who do
[47:31] Speaker 1: you talk to? He's like, I'm friends with Kevin Durant.
[47:34] Speaker 1: I talk to him. I run into Brady sometimes and
[47:36] Speaker 1: I ask him advice. Odell helps me a lot, like
[47:40] Speaker 1: he feels like a guy who is not the Labrador,
[47:43] Speaker 1: but is trying really hard to be as professional as
[47:46] Speaker 1: he can.
[47:47] Speaker 3: These guys are so so different, especially in a.
[47:51] Speaker 1: Town like Buffalo, where you go to the grocery store
[47:54] Speaker 1: it's a national event, or Cincinnati.
[47:56] Speaker 3: Even Burrow is beyond fascinating.
[47:59] Speaker 1: I hate that he's injured now, but he is a
[48:02] Speaker 1: guy who is figuring out his way in life. I
[48:03] Speaker 1: don't think it comes naturally to him, but I think
[48:05] Speaker 1: he's making it work.
[48:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, that situation, I mean just sucks as a as
[48:09] Speaker 2: a consumer. I mean, it's just like they're just a
[48:12] Speaker 2: fun team to watch. It's kind of the moment of
[48:14] Speaker 2: the backup quarterback. Right now, we're gonna get to Vice
[48:17] Speaker 2: your show. You sat with Kurt Warner, who kind of
[48:19] Speaker 2: fits in this. I mean, no one now he's even
[48:22] Speaker 2: more obscure than Jake Browning was a starter on a
[48:24] Speaker 2: playoff team in Washington, you know, I mean he was
[48:27] Speaker 2: a herald in high school player. Kurt Warner, not a
[48:29] Speaker 2: soul that loved football. Had ever heard of the guy
[48:31] Speaker 2: unless you were was it Northern Iowa or where the
[48:33] Speaker 2: hell he played? So it's like, you know, but this week,
[48:37] Speaker 2: you look, you got Jaden's injured, you got jj I
[48:40] Speaker 2: don't even I guess he was getting his ankle taped
[48:44] Speaker 2: during the game. But it kind of had a party
[48:45] Speaker 2: feel where you just assumed everything was good and then
[48:47] Speaker 2: all of a sudden, Monday morning guy comes out and
[48:49] Speaker 2: he's injured Mac Jones is playing. A lot of backups
[48:52] Speaker 2: are playing, which can we can handle for a week,
[48:55] Speaker 2: but you don't want to get to a spot where
[48:56] Speaker 2: you got Monday nights and Sunday nights and all of
[48:58] Speaker 2: a sudden, backups are littered about the league. It's it
[49:01] Speaker 2: makes me a little nervous because we're pretty early in
[49:02] Speaker 2: this thing to already be at this point. Right.
[49:05] Speaker 3: Oh man, I'm so pissed off.
[49:06] Speaker 1: This is my least favorite topic, but it's an important topic.
[49:10] Speaker 3: I understand as an NFL fan.
[49:12] Speaker 1: We're gonna get a Marcus Mariota game, Carson Wentz on
[49:16] Speaker 1: whatever team he's on this year game.
[49:18] Speaker 3: It's fine.
[49:19] Speaker 1: We have to get these things in week three. You
[49:21] Speaker 1: can't even give us a month of clean football.
[49:24] Speaker 3: I hate it. I don't want to see Jake Browning.
[49:26] Speaker 3: I don't want to see Carson Wentz on the bike.
[49:28] Speaker 3: I don't.
[49:29] Speaker 1: I'm not ashamed to say it. And here's my other
[49:30] Speaker 1: take on remember this. People lose their bleeping minds about
[49:35] Speaker 1: all these rules to protect quarterbacks, and this sucks. It's
[49:39] Speaker 1: not football. You can't get quarterbacks anymore. I will never
[49:42] Speaker 1: complain about those rules. I don't care if you can't
[49:45] Speaker 1: land on the quarterback anymore. I don't care that you
[49:47] Speaker 1: can't touch his head. I know it's annoying, but it's
[49:49] Speaker 1: not nearly as annoying as me watching Marcus Mariota start
[49:52] Speaker 1: for Jadon Daniels.
[49:53] Speaker 3: I don't want to see that. I want those rules
[49:55] Speaker 3: in place.
[49:56] Speaker 1: People are like, you gotta loose enough, the rules tighten them.
[49:58] Speaker 1: If anything, I want those guys out there. It ruins
[50:02] Speaker 1: our Sunday when they're not.
[50:03] Speaker 3: That's my piece on it.
[50:05] Speaker 2: How much toush push talk have you guys had this week?
[50:08] Speaker 3: Huns, I can't get enough. I love talk.
[50:12] Speaker 2: Okay, let's let's just let's just dive in. I mean
[50:15] Speaker 2: I forever I didn't necessarily care. Is kind of indifferent.
[50:19] Speaker 2: I respect it. Like they have this quarterback that can
[50:21] Speaker 2: squat the house. I don't think most other quarterbacks. There
[50:24] Speaker 2: was that play where Chris Jones jumps on him. He's
[50:26] Speaker 2: so strong. He took chrispher a ride to someone DM
[50:29] Speaker 2: me like, well, if the backup could function, I'm like,
[50:31] Speaker 2: I don't think Tanner McKee could have taken Chris Jones
[50:34] Speaker 2: for a ride. I think he stops right there. So
[50:36] Speaker 2: I think Jalen is a huge part of this. But
[50:40] Speaker 2: you play college football very successful running back. Correct part
[50:44] Speaker 2: of playing football is on any given play, whether it's
[50:46] Speaker 2: high school, whether it's the pros, you don't really it's unknown.
[50:49] Speaker 2: You don't know what's gonna happen, trick ration on any
[50:52] Speaker 2: given play. Something crazy can happen. A play you don't
[50:56] Speaker 2: know what the offense is called. This is the most
[50:58] Speaker 2: inevitable play. Even a quarterback sneak is one not inevitable, right,
[51:03] Speaker 2: you see in college all the time. College quarterbacks are
[51:05] Speaker 2: terrible at it, so they get stuffed. This is an inevitability.
[51:09] Speaker 2: And that's where I think that, like I understand people
[51:11] Speaker 2: pushing back, it's just kind of boring to watch. If
[51:13] Speaker 2: if ten teams could do this well, it would have
[51:15] Speaker 2: been banned a long time ago because it'd be it'd
[51:17] Speaker 2: just be boring to watch. Luckily, only one team, and
[51:20] Speaker 2: they did a good job campaigning against it. Yet Jason
[51:23] Speaker 2: Kelsey come in, Howie. They're good at they're smart guys
[51:26] Speaker 2: behind the Eagles curtain. But I do think that this
[51:29] Speaker 2: moment in time the Chiefs game was like this is
[51:32] Speaker 2: probably the last year before because we saw the momentum
[51:35] Speaker 2: last year in the offseason. I just think this is
[51:38] Speaker 2: a tough play to watch, even if they're doing their playing,
[51:41] Speaker 2: they're biding by the rules.
[51:43] Speaker 3: Yeah, well I don't know if they are anymore. That's
[51:46] Speaker 3: that's where the record.
[51:46] Speaker 2: Well they jumped, Yeah, you can't see.
[51:49] Speaker 3: So I've got a long history of talking about this.
[51:51] Speaker 1: And you use the word inevitability. It's pretty much an
[51:54] Speaker 1: inevitability for Philadelphia, it's not for everyone else. Buffalo ran
[51:58] Speaker 1: it a lot last year and they were stopped twice
[52:00] Speaker 1: in the title game running it. So it can be
[52:03] Speaker 1: done against Buffalo, I don't if it can against Philly.
[52:06] Speaker 1: My quick, rapid fire takedown of all the critiques of
[52:08] Speaker 1: the tush push are very similar.
[52:11] Speaker 3: People say, oh, it's a dangerous play. It's nonsense.
[52:13] Speaker 1: It's less dangerous than a conventional running play with a
[52:15] Speaker 1: running back up the middle because there's less impact. They say,
[52:18] Speaker 1: it's not football. Listen, we pushed as hard as we can.
[52:22] Speaker 1: You push as hard as we can. That sounds to
[52:24] Speaker 1: me like Princeton Rutgers back in the day, who had
[52:26] Speaker 1: invented football.
[52:26] Speaker 3: I don't mind it at all. I have fought for
[52:29] Speaker 3: the tush push for a long time.
[52:32] Speaker 1: I think it went someplace where I can't follow against
[52:35] Speaker 1: the chiefs because now half the line are all the
[52:39] Speaker 1: line is false starting. That's just blatantly against the rules.
[52:42] Speaker 1: Your helmet can't go and contact the chiefs before the
[52:44] Speaker 1: ball's even snapped. But it's such a cluster bleep in
[52:48] Speaker 1: there that the officials.
[52:48] Speaker 3: Can't call it.
[52:49] Speaker 1: So that was the moment, dude, where it's like, oh,
[52:53] Speaker 1: they're definitely banning this in the offseason.
[52:55] Speaker 3: But again, there was only two games in. We got
[52:58] Speaker 3: four months of them running thing soil the wheels fall off.
[53:01] Speaker 1: And listen, Siriani knows, like your kid who knows he's
[53:04] Speaker 1: gonna get grounded and lose his PlayStation, you are playing
[53:07] Speaker 1: the hell of that thing out before they take it away.
[53:09] Speaker 1: We're gonna see it a hundred times this year and
[53:11] Speaker 1: then they'll take it away.
[53:12] Speaker 2: I think the thing with Josh is one Josh is
[53:15] Speaker 2: taller than Jalen, but it's got to be uncomfortable getting
[53:17] Speaker 2: as low as Jalen gets where he's natural and comfortable
[53:20] Speaker 2: doing it. Josh did the normal. Tom Brady succeeded forever
[53:23] Speaker 2: and he was tall too. Josh tries to go high,
[53:25] Speaker 2: but it doesn't work. You have to disappear, you know,
[53:28] Speaker 2: and and I don't think any quarterback to day, I'm
[53:30] Speaker 2: not disappearing into that thing. Jalen, for whatever reason, he
[53:34] Speaker 2: to me he's the only individual that could run it
[53:37] Speaker 2: at this clip, right unless someone just has the balls,
[53:40] Speaker 2: also the stature and the strength. He's just it's just
[53:43] Speaker 2: kind of a unique situation. Okay. Uh, I guess before
[53:46] Speaker 2: we get to buy the Bears, I mean they are.
[53:50] Speaker 3: Going, we need advice. They need about fifty of them.
[53:53] Speaker 1: They need to be strong and illegal and they need
[53:55] Speaker 1: to be narcotics to get through this season.
[53:57] Speaker 3: My god, when I.
[53:58] Speaker 2: Was when I was sitting there at Coward House, I'm like, this,
[54:01] Speaker 2: this area is just incredible, the intellege, Chicago's downtown, the Lakes,
[54:05] Speaker 2: the suburbs, you guys got it all. And then he's
[54:08] Speaker 2: shown me on the map, I'm like, oh that that
[54:10] Speaker 2: little place up there. Green Bay has been kicking your
[54:12] Speaker 2: ass for decades. And there's not a soul in America
[54:15] Speaker 2: if they could choose, like, hey, would you rather live
[54:16] Speaker 2: in the suburbs of Green Bay or I mean suburbs
[54:19] Speaker 2: of Chicago or go to live in Green Bay? Obviously
[54:22] Speaker 2: there's an inferiority complex of how is this happening to us?
[54:27] Speaker 2: And it's not even fair? And now the Packers if
[54:29] Speaker 2: it was college football cow through two weeks. I mean,
[54:32] Speaker 2: I don't think anyone would hesitate or be question I
[54:35] Speaker 2: was putting the Packers number one, right. They look they've
[54:38] Speaker 2: already been good and now they look extra good. And
[54:41] Speaker 2: the Bears it's been pretty bad. I mean, you get
[54:44] Speaker 2: a fifty burger put on you in the NFL again,
[54:46] Speaker 2: Lions at home. Gof's good you watching them play. It's like,
[54:49] Speaker 2: of course they got better players than you. It's not
[54:51] Speaker 2: even that crazy. But this does feel a little rocky early.
[54:55] Speaker 2: The quarterback situation, the articles, just a lot going on,
[54:58] Speaker 2: and it kind of feels like it's just the same
[55:00] Speaker 2: thing over again.
[55:01] Speaker 3: It's absurd.
[55:02] Speaker 1: I can't believe we're having this conversation. But I can
[55:05] Speaker 1: speak on it, don because I grew up in the
[55:06] Speaker 1: Chicago area. But I also from my old child that
[55:09] Speaker 1: I would spend summers in Wisconsin. Door County, Wisconsin. We
[55:12] Speaker 1: have North or Lakes and Eave, Wisconsin. I have so
[55:14] Speaker 1: much love for Wisconsin. And they have said this. The
[55:16] Speaker 1: Packers fan's faces, they make me so frustrated and so sick.
[55:20] Speaker 1: Because they are just trust fun fans. Everything is handed
[55:23] Speaker 1: to them. They've never had to work for anything, many
[55:25] Speaker 1: of them, many of them have been as long as
[55:28] Speaker 1: they've been alive. All they've known is far of Rogers
[55:31] Speaker 1: and now Jordan Love. Some of them are like, well,
[55:34] Speaker 1: you don't remember back in the seventies. The seventies was fifties,
[55:38] Speaker 1: sixty years ago. That's your excuse. And you know what
[55:40] Speaker 1: their comeback is too, You've always had it good. They're like, well,
[55:43] Speaker 1: we lose every year in the playoffs. In the playoffs,
[55:47] Speaker 1: you lose. There's twenty teams in this league that would
[55:49] Speaker 1: cut their finger off to make a wild card game,
[55:51] Speaker 1: and you're complaining about losing in the playoffs.
[55:53] Speaker 3: They are one percenters, they're billionaires, they're trust fans, They're spoiled, rotten,
[55:58] Speaker 3: and it just continues.
[55:59] Speaker 1: This year where they're like, you know what, let's just
[56:01] Speaker 1: grab Micah Parsons right before the season, just like we
[56:04] Speaker 1: grabbed Woodson and Reggie White. It's so obnoxious. I love
[56:07] Speaker 1: those people, but they make me sick because the rest
[56:09] Speaker 1: of the pit fans, especially Bears fans, have a coffee
[56:12] Speaker 1: cup asking for change while they're up in the Penthouse.
[56:15] Speaker 3: It drives me nuts.
[56:16] Speaker 2: Do you have any hope that this season could turn out?
[56:19] Speaker 2: Or are we looking at like selloffs here in a
[56:21] Speaker 2: month of like, hey, you know Cole Kometz, Dj Moore,
[56:24] Speaker 2: I mean, are you trading guys to restock the cupboard
[56:26] Speaker 2: to like, hey what Ben? Give him his Kyle Shanahan,
[56:29] Speaker 2: Sean McVeigh, even Matt Lafleur and kind of let him
[56:32] Speaker 2: shape this team over the next couple of years. We're
[56:34] Speaker 2: lucky to get him. You know, how do you approach
[56:37] Speaker 2: this if the like, if they lose the Cowboys and
[56:40] Speaker 2: it feel like they're season's over before October first, right.
[56:43] Speaker 3: Dude, It's worse than that.
[56:45] Speaker 1: The defensive coordinator of the Cowboys is Matt freaking Eberflus,
[56:48] Speaker 1: where they just fired because he was Ned Flanders as
[56:51] Speaker 1: a head coach and they couldn't win anything with them,
[56:53] Speaker 1: and he ran out of time in a game in
[56:55] Speaker 1: which he still had a time out. If they lose
[56:57] Speaker 1: to eber Flus's defense, then they're really screwed. But I'm
[57:01] Speaker 1: trying to the word I'm using for Bears fans right
[57:03] Speaker 1: now is recalibrate. Just just chill out for a minute.
[57:08] Speaker 1: They were thinking dream season. Oh my god, it's gonna
[57:11] Speaker 1: be a sensation. We're gonna be thirteen and four. Relax,
[57:15] Speaker 1: let's check in maybe almost Thanksgiving, Halloween maybe, But are
[57:20] Speaker 1: is Caleb playing well?
[57:21] Speaker 3: Are they doing anything good?
[57:22] Speaker 1: You can dash all that crap about we're gonna win
[57:25] Speaker 1: the North, that probably ain't happen. Let's see, we are
[57:27] Speaker 1: doing six to eight weeks from now. Is bet canj
[57:29] Speaker 1: Ben Johnson really coach? Because if he can, you better
[57:32] Speaker 1: start coaching his ass off.
[57:34] Speaker 2: Okay, wece. You told Dan Patrick that this is the
[57:38] Speaker 2: first time you didn't have to audition for anything. They
[57:40] Speaker 2: called you and you get to sit with this legends
[57:43] Speaker 2: and rewatch these games a week from we'll recording this
[57:47] Speaker 2: on Wednesday the seventeenth, So the twenty fourth it's Titans Rams,
[57:51] Speaker 2: which it's kind of crazy when you look back at
[57:55] Speaker 2: that moment. Lorenzo O'Neil's buddy of mine, and obviously he
[57:57] Speaker 2: played a role in that and had an incredible care
[58:00] Speaker 2: in that Titans team one yard away. But the Kurt
[58:02] Speaker 2: Warner story, I mean, there's not really been anything like that,
[58:06] Speaker 2: you know, in our lifetimes. I Mean, this dude is
[58:08] Speaker 2: bagging groceries and then he just becomes a legendary Hall
[58:10] Speaker 2: of Famer at quarterback. You know, and that moment was
[58:14] Speaker 2: looking back, that team was loaded. But still, what was
[58:16] Speaker 2: it like? And just tell me a little bit about
[58:18] Speaker 2: the show.
[58:20] Speaker 1: It's really fun to do. It's really fun to watch John.
[58:24] Speaker 1: I don't know me now in my current age. Sometimes
[58:27] Speaker 1: on a Saturday night, when my kids go to bed
[58:29] Speaker 1: and my wife goes to ben, I'm just sitting on
[58:31] Speaker 1: the couch. I'll pull up an old concert and I'll
[58:34] Speaker 1: just watch a concert on my computer and my phone.
[58:36] Speaker 3: It could be like Pearl.
[58:38] Speaker 1: Jam in nineteen ninety eight or whatever, and I'll just
[58:41] Speaker 1: watch the whole concert.
[58:42] Speaker 3: It's just a nostalgia and it's fun.
[58:44] Speaker 1: This show is like you're watching the concert with Eddie
[58:47] Speaker 1: Vedder and he's telling you all about it as you
[58:49] Speaker 1: watch it.
[58:50] Speaker 3: You watch the old game.
[58:51] Speaker 1: It's with players, fans, everyone who's involved with it, and
[58:55] Speaker 1: they just talk shop. Oh, on this play, everyone thinks
[58:57] Speaker 1: that this happened, but it didn't. And see how on
[59:00] Speaker 1: the sideline there the coordinator standing next to me. Here's
[59:02] Speaker 1: what we were talking about. It is the most fun
[59:04] Speaker 1: way to relive old games. And this particular episode you're
[59:07] Speaker 1: talking about me. Kurt Cedric d entertainer who's a huge
[59:10] Speaker 1: Saint Louis guy, was a Saint Louis Rams at the time,
[59:13] Speaker 1: ninety nine Rams the most ridiculous, improbable story in NFL history.
[59:17] Speaker 1: And yet you watch the game, dude, I find myself
[59:20] Speaker 1: kind of rooting for the Titans because Steve McNair was
[59:22] Speaker 1: so cool and they were just so tough, and they
[59:25] Speaker 1: had just come off the Music City Miracle and their
[59:27] Speaker 1: one yard short. The funniest part about it is watching
[59:30] Speaker 1: the game is Steve McNair is driving them down the field.
[59:33] Speaker 1: Kurt Warner watching it on the show, is openly nervous
[59:36] Speaker 1: that they're gonna score, even though he knows they're not
[59:39] Speaker 1: gonna score.
[59:40] Speaker 3: He's freaking out, like the Rams are still gonna lose.
[59:42] Speaker 3: And you can feel it watching.
[59:43] Speaker 2: It, you know. I actually I watch a lot of
[59:46] Speaker 2: like live music on YouTube, especially you know it's the
[59:49] Speaker 2: older you get. Yeah, I used to hate my dad
[59:51] Speaker 2: used to play music from his youth, and then you
[59:54] Speaker 2: get older. I'm about to have my first child thinking
[59:56] Speaker 2: about it. All I'm gonna listen to is like music
[59:58] Speaker 2: from the nineties, and he's gonna be you know when
[1:00:01] Speaker 2: he's ten, it's gonna be like twenty forty, he's gonna
[1:00:03] Speaker 2: want to kill me. But then hopefully maybe one day
[1:00:05] Speaker 2: when I'm gone, he will enjoy that as well. But
[1:00:08] Speaker 2: one clip from the Cowboys Netflix documentary that really stood
[1:00:11] Speaker 2: out to me. There's like a training camp practice and
[1:00:14] Speaker 2: they are on a field that looked like where I
[1:00:16] Speaker 2: went to elementary school. Their potholes and there was just
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: a rawness to the pre kind of internet financial boom
[1:00:22] Speaker 2: that the NFL sees now, where everyone's facility like a
[1:00:26] Speaker 2: crappy facility is still awesome. And I kind of missed
[1:00:29] Speaker 2: that era of like just the training camps. There was
[1:00:32] Speaker 2: just it was just different. And sometimes you watch these
[1:00:35] Speaker 2: games from the nineties because you did the Cowboys game right,
[1:00:37] Speaker 2: the ninety five game, is that football was just a
[1:00:40] Speaker 2: little bit different. It was the NFL. The way they
[1:00:42] Speaker 2: practice wasn't that much different than like the high school teams.
[1:00:45] Speaker 2: On the fields it was all crappy. I mean, it
[1:00:47] Speaker 2: was just I just missed the I just get nostalgic
[1:00:50] Speaker 2: sometime about sports, especially good I might.
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: Get nostalgic about music, about sports, about everything. Michael Irvin
[1:00:56] Speaker 1: was on the show and he was talking about exactly
[1:00:57] Speaker 1: what you're bringing up. He used to come out to
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: practice and guys were just like getting ready for battle,
[1:01:02] Speaker 1: not for games, for practice, and he would walk up
[1:01:05] Speaker 1: and down the line of his own teammates and scream
[1:01:08] Speaker 1: at them, who's gonna outwork me today? Put your hand up,
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: if you're gonna outwork me, who's it gonna be? And
[1:01:13] Speaker 1: it was like they were ready to fight, and these
[1:01:15] Speaker 1: are the same team, they're not even having another team there.
[1:01:18] Speaker 1: And then they would just do like so much live hitting,
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: so much live goal line.
[1:01:24] Speaker 3: You know.
[1:01:24] Speaker 1: As it turns out that was probably woefully unhealthy for
[1:01:27] Speaker 1: their long term health.
[1:01:28] Speaker 3: But man, as a fan, it was really cool.
[1:01:31] Speaker 2: I mean, as a kid, the Bill Walshoes take the
[1:01:33] Speaker 2: forty nine ers to Rockland and Sacramento in the their Dynasty,
[1:01:37] Speaker 2: and I would imagine they weren't charging. You could just
[1:01:39] Speaker 2: show up if you wanted to watch. I don't know,
[1:01:41] Speaker 2: Jerry Rice and Steve Young sling that pill around, and
[1:01:44] Speaker 2: those days like if you want to get access to
[1:01:46] Speaker 2: a training, you better be a VIP suite holder, you know,
[1:01:49] Speaker 2: or like the Masters, you know, a raffle to get involved.
[1:01:53] Speaker 2: It was just just simpler times. That's all.
[1:01:55] Speaker 3: That's all I want to say, no doubts, no doubt.
[1:01:57] Speaker 2: Well, I appreciate your time and looking forward to watching
[1:02:00] Speaker 2: in this. You know you and Kurt Warner, Cedric the
[1:02:02] Speaker 2: Entertainer watch that's a that's a pretty classic game and
[1:02:05] Speaker 2: obviously changed the course of Kurt Warner's life and what
[1:02:08] Speaker 2: the rest of those Rams guys for the rest of
[1:02:10] Speaker 2: their career.
[1:02:12] Speaker 1: It's and honestly, you know what the funniest thing is
[1:02:14] Speaker 1: about this, I thought I knew everything about that game.
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: The twist at the end is that the Titans are
[1:02:20] Speaker 1: driving down the field and it's McNair and it's Eddie
[1:02:22] Speaker 1: George and they're down seven at the time they get
[1:02:25] Speaker 1: tackled at the one yard line, was short of the touchdown.
[1:02:28] Speaker 1: The question is, and this still follows them around, if
[1:02:31] Speaker 1: they had scored, would they have gone for two and
[1:02:35] Speaker 1: the win? Because they could have gone for two to
[1:02:37] Speaker 1: win by one point. Jeff Fisher has kind of gone
[1:02:40] Speaker 1: back and forth over the years saying what he would
[1:02:42] Speaker 1: have done. Eddie George is saying we should have gone
[1:02:45] Speaker 1: for two. If we scored, we definitely would have gotten it.
[1:02:47] Speaker 1: They were so exhausted. Can you imagine a two point conversion,
[1:02:50] Speaker 1: down one point with no time left.
[1:02:52] Speaker 3: In the Super Bowl for the win. It would have
[1:02:54] Speaker 3: the most electric player ever, you.
[1:02:55] Speaker 2: Would say, based on history defensive coaches back then, pre analytics,
[1:02:59] Speaker 2: he probably can the extra point. You know, I think
[1:03:02] Speaker 2: it's easy to say the game is.
[1:03:03] Speaker 3: Like, we're beating the crap out of them. They are
[1:03:06] Speaker 3: out of gas.
[1:03:07] Speaker 1: Even as somebody on the rams I was trying to
[1:03:09] Speaker 1: remember who it was, He's like, oh, they would have
[1:03:11] Speaker 1: got it. We were exhausted. If Mike Jones doesn't make
[1:03:13] Speaker 1: that tackle, we're losing. And even if it went to
[1:03:15] Speaker 1: overtime and they kicked, we would have lost. That is
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: the biggest tackle in NFL history by far, and we
[1:03:19] Speaker 1: talk a lot about it on the show.
[1:03:21] Speaker 2: Well, it's one hundred percent run play right, Lorenzo O'Neil
[1:03:24] Speaker 2: leading the whole Eddie George getting it bro Okay, Kin,
[1:03:28] Speaker 2: have a good day and looking forward to watching this
[1:03:30] Speaker 2: next week.
[1:03:31] Speaker 3: John, I'm a fan of yours, man. I appreciate you
[1:03:33] Speaker 3: having me on truly, thank you.
[1:03:34] Speaker 2: Thanks, Thanks Kyle saying appreciate you. Okay, little mailbag time
[1:03:51] Speaker 2: at John Middlecoff. At John Middlecoff, this mail bag is
[1:03:53] Speaker 2: gonna be rapid fire, So we're gonna go try to
[1:03:56] Speaker 2: go really quick, bang out a bunch of questions, and
[1:03:58] Speaker 2: not be on here for too long with this Rams fan. Obviously,
[1:04:01] Speaker 2: Stafford is still playing an elite level. How do you
[1:04:04] Speaker 2: see the Rams going about their future quarterback situation moving forward?
[1:04:08] Speaker 2: It's no secret they'll be in the market for a quarterback.
[1:04:10] Speaker 2: They added the falcons first round pick. But if Stafford
[1:04:13] Speaker 2: is a top six to eight quarterback and stays healthy,
[1:04:16] Speaker 2: should the Rams look to keep them for another year
[1:04:18] Speaker 2: while the rookie quarterback learns. I think it's pretty simple.
[1:04:22] Speaker 2: I think they are going to have the optionality to
[1:04:25] Speaker 2: give them another one year deal similar like this year,
[1:04:28] Speaker 2: Like Matt, you want to make more money, you can
[1:04:29] Speaker 2: go somewhere else. Here's what we will be to offer.
[1:04:32] Speaker 2: But it's going to be a year by year situation.
[1:04:35] Speaker 2: And two, if there's a quarterback they like enough, you know,
[1:04:38] Speaker 2: assume the Falcons win seven to nine games, so that
[1:04:42] Speaker 2: pick is not going to be terrible. I guess they could.
[1:04:45] Speaker 2: I mean, hell, they could win ten, So both those
[1:04:47] Speaker 2: picks could be in the twenties. Could you package those
[1:04:50] Speaker 2: picks and get to seven or eight or nine. I
[1:04:53] Speaker 2: think you could. So if they liked a quarterback, they
[1:04:56] Speaker 2: could move up to get them. If they don't, they
[1:04:58] Speaker 2: can just stick in and pick. So they're gonna have options,
[1:05:02] Speaker 2: and just kind of the thing they got going for
[1:05:05] Speaker 2: him is they got a lot of equity and anytime,
[1:05:07] Speaker 2: you know, Chris Ballard, his back was against the wall
[1:05:10] Speaker 2: because the franchise wasn't going well and the owner forced
[1:05:12] Speaker 2: him to take Anthony Richardson. The Rams are not gonna
[1:05:15] Speaker 2: be forced to do anything, and they should. Like in McVeigh,
[1:05:18] Speaker 2: you trust and you just let him in Snead do
[1:05:20] Speaker 2: whatever they want with Stafford obviously, if they're gonna want
[1:05:24] Speaker 2: to give him another contract, that means he's playing well
[1:05:26] Speaker 2: and he's healthy. If they don't, means they think he's
[1:05:28] Speaker 2: old and he's done right. So and you let let Snead,
[1:05:32] Speaker 2: you know, Wheeling deal in the draft. I think you're
[1:05:36] Speaker 2: in a good spot for something that you don't have
[1:05:39] Speaker 2: an answer to. A question for the pod, what's with
[1:05:43] Speaker 2: the hate for carly ersay Gordon. She's grown up around football,
[1:05:49] Speaker 2: he whole life and probably knows more in the sport
[1:05:51] Speaker 2: than most of the Joe's sitting at home yelling at
[1:05:53] Speaker 2: the TV. Why is it a big deal that she's
[1:05:54] Speaker 2: on the sideline with the headset writing in her quote
[1:05:57] Speaker 2: stupid little notebook. That's my words, not his. As a
[1:06:01] Speaker 2: Colts fan, one of our biggest complaints is that Jim
[1:06:04] Speaker 2: Is he was out of touch. He focused on money
[1:06:07] Speaker 2: and guitars and amazing philanthropies, but it felt like he
[1:06:12] Speaker 2: didn't know what was going on in house. I respect
[1:06:14] Speaker 2: Carly for at least putting in the effort. Let's give
[1:06:17] Speaker 2: her some time before making fun of her. She got
[1:06:19] Speaker 2: made fun of by me simply because I think it's
[1:06:23] Speaker 2: performative to be on the sideline taking notes in what
[1:06:27] Speaker 2: I said, stupid little notebook with a headset is unlike
[1:06:30] Speaker 2: any team in the league, And we have owners like
[1:06:34] Speaker 2: Jerry Jones, who played college football who's the general manager,
[1:06:38] Speaker 2: like Al Davis, who was basically the coach slash general manager,
[1:06:43] Speaker 2: never were on the sideline. Because think about it like this.
[1:06:47] Speaker 2: If you work for somebody, whether it be a big
[1:06:49] Speaker 2: company or a small company, and every time that you
[1:06:51] Speaker 2: had a big meeting, big situation in your job, that
[1:06:55] Speaker 2: owner was right behind you staring at you. That'd be
[1:06:57] Speaker 2: an uncomfortable place to work. There's a when you watch
[1:07:00] Speaker 2: the Chiefs, the Bills, the Ravens, the throwners in the box.
[1:07:04] Speaker 2: If you want to listen to the headset, I don't
[1:07:07] Speaker 2: even have an issue with that. You own the team,
[1:07:09] Speaker 2: you can do that. But to be on the sideline
[1:07:12] Speaker 2: with a headset taking notes, give me a fucking break.
[1:07:16] Speaker 2: And this is not well, you're just saying this because
[1:07:18] Speaker 2: she's a chick. I don't give a shit. I would
[1:07:20] Speaker 2: say this about any ow. No one does it. No
[1:07:23] Speaker 2: one is doing this throughout the league. I don't see
[1:07:26] Speaker 2: Jeffrey Lurie on the sidelines. Hell, I don't even see
[1:07:29] Speaker 2: the GMS being like a quote unquote, what are we
[1:07:33] Speaker 2: doing this for? I do not understand it now. I
[1:07:36] Speaker 2: heard her quote you're gonna pay millions of dollars Like
[1:07:38] Speaker 2: I get it, but like I, why are you doing
[1:07:43] Speaker 2: this and no one else is doing this? What are
[1:07:45] Speaker 2: you gleaning from this? To me? You make it worse?
[1:07:49] Speaker 2: And honestly, I think it's it's a look at me moment.
[1:07:52] Speaker 2: I truly believe that you can say, what is it hurting? Well,
[1:07:55] Speaker 2: I just there's a reason no one else even contemplates
[1:07:59] Speaker 2: doing this. I have no problem if you're up in
[1:08:02] Speaker 2: the booth or you know, even what Tom Brady did
[1:08:05] Speaker 2: out of the way, but in the owner's box taking notes,
[1:08:09] Speaker 2: you can do whatever you want. I don't have an
[1:08:10] Speaker 2: issue with that. But on the sideline with a headset,
[1:08:13] Speaker 2: give me a fucking break. Been listening to you for
[1:08:16] Speaker 2: about a year. Definitely blah blah blah. Appreciate the kind
[1:08:19] Speaker 2: of words.
[1:08:20] Speaker 3: I know.
[1:08:20] Speaker 2: You mentioned that you worked at Cal Paul's athletic department,
[1:08:22] Speaker 2: and my end goal is to become a college athletic director.
[1:08:27] Speaker 2: How big of a deal is networking when it comes
[1:08:30] Speaker 2: to trying to get that job? When I was in
[1:08:33] Speaker 2: Friensident State, Danny White, who is now the AD at Tennessee,
[1:08:36] Speaker 2: his brother was a basketball coach. He's coach at Florida.
[1:08:39] Speaker 2: Thenk coaches at Georgia. Now his dad was the athletic
[1:08:42] Speaker 2: director at Notre Dame. This guy was just kind of
[1:08:45] Speaker 2: a I would say, very similar to a politician. And
[1:08:50] Speaker 2: I think part of being an AD it's like the
[1:08:53] Speaker 2: athletic version of being a politician. It's about raising money.
[1:08:57] Speaker 2: It's about keeping people with the money happy. It's about
[1:09:01] Speaker 2: being the front facing guy and some tough decisions. But networking,
[1:09:06] Speaker 2: which is a skill I suck at. I'm not great
[1:09:08] Speaker 2: at it. You know, relative to a lot of you
[1:09:11] Speaker 2: guys that are listening in whatever industries you're in, your
[1:09:15] Speaker 2: network is your net worth. I do believe that, But
[1:09:18] Speaker 2: just on a daily basis, I could be a lot
[1:09:20] Speaker 2: better at it, just in terms of keeping up with
[1:09:23] Speaker 2: my relationships networking new ones. I've always kind of hated
[1:09:27] Speaker 2: that term. It just feels kind of hollow and fake.
[1:09:31] Speaker 2: But I'm not a great politician, and there are certain
[1:09:33] Speaker 2: industries I couldn't have done because I don't have those skills.
[1:09:37] Speaker 2: So if you are going to get to the highest
[1:09:40] Speaker 2: level division I athletic director, I think it's borderline impossible
[1:09:44] Speaker 2: without being a really good networker, knowing people, dealing with people,
[1:09:48] Speaker 2: schmoozing with people. I think it's the majority of your job. Now. Obviously,
[1:09:56] Speaker 2: if you hired the right if you're the AD and
[1:09:58] Speaker 2: you hire Nick Saban or Urban, You're gonna have incredible
[1:10:01] Speaker 2: job security. But I think it's a huge part of
[1:10:05] Speaker 2: the job. I think it's a main part of the job.
[1:10:07] Speaker 2: And the pie chart, I would say networking, which also
[1:10:10] Speaker 2: includes raising the money, the boosters, dealing, you know, kind
[1:10:14] Speaker 2: of that realm is the overwhelming majority of the gig.
[1:10:20] Speaker 2: Can we talk about how McDaniels is basically the offensive
[1:10:23] Speaker 2: version of Brandon Staley, both likable media darlings and genius
[1:10:27] Speaker 2: for their respective sides, garbage head coaches with their teams
[1:10:31] Speaker 2: quitting on them three years later. Yeah, I mean I
[1:10:35] Speaker 2: would say that, you know, Brandon Staley was known as
[1:10:39] Speaker 2: a really good coach under Fangio and then he got
[1:10:42] Speaker 2: the one year of twenty twenty with the Rams. I
[1:10:46] Speaker 2: would say Josh has accomplished a lot more, and Josh
[1:10:49] Speaker 2: does have a champion in Tom that like, who is
[1:10:53] Speaker 2: Brandon Staley's guy beating down the drum for like Brandon
[1:10:56] Speaker 2: salely is it is him? As the kids would say,
[1:11:00] Speaker 2: like Tom believes that whether he's right or not, like
[1:11:02] Speaker 2: Tom believes that help Peyton Manning got Adam Gase was
[1:11:05] Speaker 2: that guy. When you have a high level endorser talk
[1:11:08] Speaker 2: about networking, like if Tom Brady is your number one, Hey,
[1:11:12] Speaker 2: I need a list of references. I need ten of them.
[1:11:15] Speaker 2: If my only list of reference is Tom Brady or
[1:11:18] Speaker 2: Peyton Manning and I'm a football coach, it's gonna be
[1:11:20] Speaker 2: a pretty good one. So I just don't know who
[1:11:22] Speaker 2: that guy is. For Brandon Staley, I would say, in
[1:11:26] Speaker 2: fairness to Josh, I couldn't even compare Brandon Staley to
[1:11:29] Speaker 2: Josh McDaniel's and I think they're both. What the hell
[1:11:33] Speaker 2: is the school in Ohio? I think they went to
[1:11:35] Speaker 2: the same college. A bunch of guys did Youngstown Youngstown State?
[1:11:40] Speaker 2: I think you're Youngstown? Is that where Brandon Staley went
[1:11:43] Speaker 2: to school? I know Josh did. He's from Ohio. He
[1:11:49] Speaker 2: went to no. I guess Brandon Staley went to Dayton
[1:11:53] Speaker 2: but coached he did he coach at Youngstown? Maybe it
[1:11:57] Speaker 2: was John Carroll. John Carroll is the school. I guess
[1:12:01] Speaker 2: some of these smaller schools in Ohio. Mixed up question
[1:12:03] Speaker 2: for the pod, I gotta pick up the pacer, I said,
[1:12:06] Speaker 2: rapid fire Lions fan. I think Jared Goff is a
[1:12:08] Speaker 2: top four quarterback in the sport at the moment. Everybody's
[1:12:11] Speaker 2: ready to put Herbert to top five status, but not Goff,
[1:12:15] Speaker 2: even though he had better success than Herbert. Since twenty
[1:12:17] Speaker 2: three he's first in yards passing yards per game, and
[1:12:21] Speaker 2: he's second in touchdowns and completion percentage. But it feels
[1:12:24] Speaker 2: like the media is pushing a certain narrative that he's
[1:12:26] Speaker 2: just an above average quarterback. The players think he's top
[1:12:29] Speaker 2: fifteen in the league, but not the media a top
[1:12:32] Speaker 2: fifteen player in the league. Your thoughts, I guess is
[1:12:34] Speaker 2: that based on the top one hundred last year, I
[1:12:37] Speaker 2: would say there's not a general manager in the league
[1:12:39] Speaker 2: that would take Jared Goff over Justin Herbert. And the
[1:12:42] Speaker 2: element is, like Justin Herbert can make every throw that
[1:12:45] Speaker 2: he can. Obviously, Goff benefits, I mean, he has an
[1:12:48] Speaker 2: incredible offensive skill group, from Saint Brown to Laporta to
[1:12:52] Speaker 2: Gibbs to Jamison Williams. I mean, hell, they even draft
[1:12:55] Speaker 2: this skuy Tesla who looks literally like a Tesla. She's
[1:12:57] Speaker 2: fucking awesome. I just think Justin Herbert's a better player
[1:13:02] Speaker 2: than Jared Goff. And if you had to choose, I
[1:13:05] Speaker 2: don't think anyone in the sport of football would take
[1:13:07] Speaker 2: Goff or Herbert over Golf. Excuse me, Goff over Herbert.
[1:13:12] Speaker 2: That being said, like Goff's had an incredible career and
[1:13:15] Speaker 2: is having an awesome career and as an excellent player,
[1:13:18] Speaker 2: and it's gonna go to a bunch of Pro Bowl
[1:13:19] Speaker 2: He's gonna make a lot of money and he's already
[1:13:21] Speaker 2: won some playoff games, So to me, you know Herbert
[1:13:25] Speaker 2: has to do it in the playoffs. But I think
[1:13:27] Speaker 2: justin Herbert's a better player, more versatile player. I mean,
[1:13:29] Speaker 2: the running element is something Jared Goff just can't move.
[1:13:32] Speaker 2: So if you could hit Jared Goff, he's like the
[1:13:35] Speaker 2: better version of Dak and Kirk Cousins. Herbert's like the
[1:13:40] Speaker 2: lesser version of Josh Allen. I heard what you're saying.
[1:13:44] Speaker 2: If you want to give me statistics, I can't argue,
[1:13:46] Speaker 2: but I just think that I think you're under selling.
[1:13:50] Speaker 2: I would not say Jared Goff stop for a quarterback
[1:13:52] Speaker 2: top ten quarterback, top six or seven quarterback, right, Like
[1:13:56] Speaker 2: how many guys if you go Mahomes, Alan Lamar Burrow
[1:14:00] Speaker 2: of healthy Herbert, I think you get in that next group,
[1:14:04] Speaker 2: Like who's a better passer from the pocket, Jared Goff
[1:14:08] Speaker 2: or Jalen Hurts?
[1:14:11] Speaker 3: Right?
[1:14:11] Speaker 2: How many guys in the NFC are better pocket passers
[1:14:15] Speaker 2: than Jared Goff? Not many? But he has no scramble
[1:14:18] Speaker 2: ability none, So if he has to scramble, you're in
[1:14:21] Speaker 2: major trouble. That's where it's like even Dak can move right,
[1:14:24] Speaker 2: Jalen obviously can move, Purty can scramble around Baker. Who's
[1:14:30] Speaker 2: really good? I mean the NFL, Jordan Love. I think
[1:14:32] Speaker 2: the NFC is full of guys that are not top
[1:14:35] Speaker 2: five guys, but when they're playing well, are really really
[1:14:37] Speaker 2: good players. And Jared Goss played well for a long time.
[1:14:39] Speaker 2: He was a number one overall pick. My question is this,
[1:14:42] Speaker 2: how are the Pittsburgh Steelers defense this bad under Mike Tomlin.
[1:14:45] Speaker 2: The offense under Rodgers doesn't seem like it's going to
[1:14:47] Speaker 2: be too bad even with the old line issues, that
[1:14:50] Speaker 2: defense is getting torched. Would love to hear your thoughts.
[1:14:52] Speaker 2: I said, I think this is definitely must win for
[1:14:55] Speaker 2: the Bears, just to keep some credibility in their season
[1:14:59] Speaker 2: if the Steeler lose this season. I saw Rogers say
[1:15:01] Speaker 2: today like, hey, you know, we can't have this binary mindset.
[1:15:05] Speaker 2: You know it's about the process, not winning and losing.
[1:15:07] Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, true, Aaron, but this defense can't be
[1:15:11] Speaker 2: this bad. And if you go on the road to
[1:15:13] Speaker 2: New England and can't stop Drake May and some pretty
[1:15:17] Speaker 2: average pieces, it wouldn't be concerning. It would be a
[1:15:19] Speaker 2: five alarm fire. So the first two games From a
[1:15:23] Speaker 2: defensive perspective, I thought their defense is gonna be good,
[1:15:26] Speaker 2: maybe not the best defense in the league, but one
[1:15:28] Speaker 2: of the better ones. And they look really, really bad.
[1:15:31] Speaker 2: I understand they have some new secondary pieces, but there's
[1:15:36] Speaker 2: just like a lack of physicality that just pretty evident
[1:15:38] Speaker 2: when you watch them play. So I would say it's
[1:15:41] Speaker 2: a little concerning. This is a huge week for the
[1:15:43] Speaker 2: kind of the Mike Tomlin raw raw rally the troops
[1:15:47] Speaker 2: Monday through Friday, Like by the time the game comes,
[1:15:50] Speaker 2: this team should be ready to fucking dominate. If the
[1:15:53] Speaker 2: Steelers are going to be a credible playoff level team,
[1:15:58] Speaker 2: they win this game and look really good. If they don't,
[1:16:01] Speaker 2: could be a weird season in Pittsburgh, and not even
[1:16:04] Speaker 2: just win this game, but like hold New England to
[1:16:07] Speaker 2: i don't know, low double digits, like thirteen points, and
[1:16:12] Speaker 2: just win a game like twenty five to thirteen or
[1:16:14] Speaker 2: twenty four to ten and just kind of smother Drake
[1:16:18] Speaker 2: May and the offense. That's what I'd want to see
[1:16:21] Speaker 2: if I was Steeler fan. I know the Panthers not
[1:16:23] Speaker 2: great for business, but I'm sadly a Panther diard. I'm
[1:16:26] Speaker 2: at the point where I think it's likely that Bryce
[1:16:29] Speaker 2: is not our franchise quarterback. Obviously, it's depending on how
[1:16:32] Speaker 2: this quarterback class shakes out. But from a general philosophy standpoint,
[1:16:36] Speaker 2: do you think we should draft a quarterback in twenty
[1:16:38] Speaker 2: twenty six or should we bring in a bridge quarterback
[1:16:41] Speaker 2: and draft the best player available. On one hand, I
[1:16:44] Speaker 2: don't want to set up another rookie quarterback to fail.
[1:16:46] Speaker 2: But on the other hand, with McMillan, who actually making
[1:16:49] Speaker 2: some plays, Chubba and Koker, I think our offensive weapons
[1:16:53] Speaker 2: are good enough for a rookie quarterback to succeed. I
[1:16:56] Speaker 2: was kind of high on the Panthers. I thought they
[1:16:58] Speaker 2: would be them and the Titans. I look like a
[1:17:01] Speaker 2: fucking moron right now.
[1:17:02] Speaker 3: Now.
[1:17:02] Speaker 2: Granted, at this point in time last year, I had
[1:17:04] Speaker 2: the Saints. Love the Saints coming into the season. They
[1:17:06] Speaker 2: were two and oh, I look like a genius. Things
[1:17:08] Speaker 2: can change. But the Panthers have been really, really underwhelming.
[1:17:13] Speaker 2: I think it's a little concerning. I'd be lying if
[1:17:15] Speaker 2: I've watched all the Snaps. I mean, I've had him
[1:17:17] Speaker 2: on one of my TVs, but I haven't really been
[1:17:19] Speaker 2: paying attention. Once they've been down big I know they
[1:17:22] Speaker 2: kind of came back. That score looks a lot closer.
[1:17:25] Speaker 2: I mean they were down what twenty seven to nine
[1:17:28] Speaker 2: in the second half against the Cardinals, So it's the NFL.
[1:17:32] Speaker 2: You kind of just mentally check out and they kind
[1:17:34] Speaker 2: of came storming back. But I'm with you, it's pretty concerning.
[1:17:38] Speaker 2: I would say he's got to I have a hard
[1:17:42] Speaker 2: time envisioning a scenario where they're drafting in the top
[1:17:47] Speaker 2: five or six and they roll it back with Bryce.
[1:17:51] Speaker 2: I really do. Now, maybe they could do something where
[1:17:53] Speaker 2: if they're bad again, they bring in they've already done that,
[1:17:56] Speaker 2: like an Andy Dalton type and draft the best player available,
[1:18:00] Speaker 2: But that's pretty dark. So I would say that Bryce's
[1:18:04] Speaker 2: career feels like it's we're pretty close for it being
[1:18:09] Speaker 2: scary time for him. It was last year kind of
[1:18:12] Speaker 2: settled it down. Feels like we're right back to where
[1:18:14] Speaker 2: we were when he got benched. He's a better player
[1:18:17] Speaker 2: than that. But yeah, you can't play three years and
[1:18:23] Speaker 2: the team suck and just keep your gig. Okay, a
[1:18:26] Speaker 2: couple more, I feel like there's a little bit too
[1:18:28] Speaker 2: much faith being put in the idea of the Chiefs
[1:18:30] Speaker 2: offensive problems will be solved once Rice and Worthy return,
[1:18:34] Speaker 2: I don't question that those guys will certainly help, But
[1:18:36] Speaker 2: I feel like people are acting like Rice is justin
[1:18:39] Speaker 2: Jefferson or Jabar Chase when we only saw Rice look
[1:18:42] Speaker 2: like a good wide receiver for about half a season. Agree,
[1:18:46] Speaker 2: in my mind, I don't think that he's gonna come
[1:18:48] Speaker 2: back and just be the top wide receiver. Everyone is
[1:18:51] Speaker 2: acting like he's gonna be Not to mention, he absolutely
[1:18:54] Speaker 2: is atrocious in the run game and an old Travis.
[1:18:58] Speaker 2: I think this team is being held to get with
[1:19:00] Speaker 2: duct tape. Yeah, I talked to a buddy there. I
[1:19:04] Speaker 2: think they're a little more optimistic than you. I think
[1:19:09] Speaker 2: defensively they're still gonna be good. I'm with you. I mean,
[1:19:11] Speaker 2: I think we gotta be careful. And I'm guilty of
[1:19:13] Speaker 2: this too. Like, once these guys come back, they're not
[1:19:16] Speaker 2: chasing Jefferson. Hell, they're not like DeVante Adams and Pooga
[1:19:19] Speaker 2: Nakua like there's they ideally would be fine. He had
[1:19:21] Speaker 2: a major knee injury. You know, Xavier Worthy's got fifty
[1:19:25] Speaker 2: nine balls. It's not like he's just been some dominant player.
[1:19:29] Speaker 2: But Andy can scheme him open. I actually think he's
[1:19:32] Speaker 2: a really skilled player. I'm pretty high on Zavi Worthy honestly,
[1:19:36] Speaker 2: but run game, it's not ideal. But coach Reed's not
[1:19:39] Speaker 2: a big call run guy. So I mean, as long
[1:19:42] Speaker 2: as you got Mahomes and you got the defense like
[1:19:44] Speaker 2: you're gonna stay credible. I would be stunned even with
[1:19:48] Speaker 2: an zero and two start, first time in ten plus years,
[1:19:51] Speaker 2: if they're not ten and seven, Like I hear you
[1:19:54] Speaker 2: saying to be duct tape. But when you say duct tape,
[1:19:56] Speaker 2: they're an injury or two away from being seven and ten.
[1:19:59] Speaker 2: That that would really surprise me. I would say their
[1:20:02] Speaker 2: floor would be like nine to eight ceiling, probably ten
[1:20:05] Speaker 2: or eleven wins though, so their ceiling's not very high
[1:20:07] Speaker 2: at this point. But I just have a hard time
[1:20:10] Speaker 2: seeing their floor be a disaster. I mean seven and
[1:20:13] Speaker 2: ten for the Chiefs would be the equivalent of like
[1:20:14] Speaker 2: two wins for most teams. With all to talk about
[1:20:18] Speaker 2: banning the toush push, why not take it a step
[1:20:20] Speaker 2: further and just ban the quarterback sneak. I feel like
[1:20:23] Speaker 2: better for football in a short yardage required the running
[1:20:26] Speaker 2: actual football plays. I do think the quarterback sneak is
[1:20:29] Speaker 2: a football play. I mean, it's a pretty historic play.
[1:20:32] Speaker 2: My entire life, people run the quarterback sneak, and no
[1:20:34] Speaker 2: one ever had a problem with the quarterback sneak until
[1:20:37] Speaker 2: the tousch push. I think the toush push and the
[1:20:38] Speaker 2: quarterback sneak are too dramatically different plays. I feel like
[1:20:43] Speaker 2: could be wrong in my life watching football. Let's just say,
[1:20:47] Speaker 2: since I was ten thirty plus years the quarterback sneak
[1:20:50] Speaker 2: is not some ninety nine percent effective play. It might
[1:20:54] Speaker 2: be over fifty, but it's probably closer to fifty than
[1:20:56] Speaker 2: it is seventy five. I mean, think how often we
[1:20:58] Speaker 2: see the quarterback sneaks.
[1:21:01] Speaker 3: Hell.
[1:21:01] Speaker 2: Josh Allen, who's one of the more physically gifted quarterbacks
[1:21:04] Speaker 2: in the league history, couldn't get quarterback sneaks last year
[1:21:07] Speaker 2: against the Chiefs. So I got no problem with the
[1:21:10] Speaker 2: quarterback sneak. The tush push is a completely different animal.
[1:21:14] Speaker 2: Nos Ites, it seems to me that neither the Bengals
[1:21:17] Speaker 2: nor the Bears seem to find any success with their
[1:21:20] Speaker 2: current rosters. Is it crazy for the Bengals to trade
[1:21:23] Speaker 2: Joe Burrow to Chicago for Caleb Rome and two to
[1:21:26] Speaker 2: three first round picks. The idea is similar to the
[1:21:29] Speaker 2: Stafford Golf trade. The Bears get what Ben Johnson wants,
[1:21:33] Speaker 2: the best pocket quarterback, and the Bengals get a ton
[1:21:36] Speaker 2: of picks. They also get to trade for a wide
[1:21:38] Speaker 2: receiver for picks for a fast track rebuild. I know
[1:21:42] Speaker 2: it seems out of pocket, but Burrow has serious health issues,
[1:21:45] Speaker 2: as we've seen in the last three years. I'm a
[1:21:48] Speaker 2: fan from Greece, so forgive my ignorance. I kind of
[1:21:51] Speaker 2: don't hate this situation of let's just say Burrow misses
[1:21:55] Speaker 2: the rest of the year. So he's had three major
[1:21:58] Speaker 2: injuries that's knocked him out for the season in three
[1:22:00] Speaker 2: separate seasons. You could argue the knee ones a little freakish,
[1:22:03] Speaker 2: but the other two you just don't see very often.
[1:22:08] Speaker 2: I have a hard time, and I've said this from
[1:22:10] Speaker 2: the jump. The injury maybe changes the conversation a little bit.
[1:22:15] Speaker 2: But seeing Mike Brown trade Joe Burrow, I mean it
[1:22:17] Speaker 2: would have to get way uglier for him to pull
[1:22:20] Speaker 2: the trigger, and for Caleb and Rome. So then he's
[1:22:22] Speaker 2: got all these wide receivers and a quarterback that we
[1:22:26] Speaker 2: don't know can play. Getting rid of Joe Burrow. I
[1:22:29] Speaker 2: think the Bears, I think Ben Johnson would one per
[1:22:34] Speaker 2: make that trade. I think it's whatever version you know,
[1:22:38] Speaker 2: Rome Caleb and two first round picks for Burrow, maybe
[1:22:42] Speaker 2: even throw in some other player. I think the Bears
[1:22:45] Speaker 2: would do whatever that version of that trade is, which
[1:22:48] Speaker 2: is somewhat fair, even if it's quote unquote an overpay.
[1:22:51] Speaker 2: I think the Bengals would one percent say no, even
[1:22:54] Speaker 2: with a turf toed Joe Burrow. I just think the
[1:22:56] Speaker 2: Bengals aren't even close to uh, not even just to
[1:23:00] Speaker 2: a yes, but to entertaining the idea. I just I
[1:23:04] Speaker 2: could be naive on this one, but just haven't seen
[1:23:07] Speaker 2: the Carson Palmer situation to see the way they handle
[1:23:10] Speaker 2: some of these off field situations with contracts. I think
[1:23:15] Speaker 2: we are a long way away. Look how long it
[1:23:18] Speaker 2: took for the Stafford situation to materialize. What was he
[1:23:21] Speaker 2: drafted in seven? So he played what fourteen thirteen plus years?
[1:23:27] Speaker 1: There?
[1:23:28] Speaker 2: What here's Joe Burrow drafted in twenty twenty so twenty
[1:23:33] Speaker 2: twenty one, twenty two, twenty three, twenty four. This is
[1:23:35] Speaker 2: six season in the league. I mean, we're not even
[1:23:38] Speaker 2: halfway to what the Lions endured with Stafford, who and
[1:23:42] Speaker 2: they weren't even they didn't even have any success. Really,
[1:23:44] Speaker 2: they made the playoffs a couple of times, never won
[1:23:45] Speaker 2: a playoff game. So I think I hear what you're saying,
[1:23:48] Speaker 2: and I don't mind the outside the box kind of
[1:23:51] Speaker 2: baseball basketball type trades. I just think the Bengals are
[1:23:55] Speaker 2: a long It's crazy to say if you're a Bengal fan, like,
[1:23:58] Speaker 2: why are we a long way? Awake? Guy gets hurt
[1:23:59] Speaker 2: all the time. Just look at the owner man. They
[1:24:02] Speaker 2: paid him a bunch of money. They will continue to
[1:24:06] Speaker 2: pay them a bunch of money. But I think we're
[1:24:09] Speaker 2: I mean minimum eighteen months this season and then another
[1:24:16] Speaker 2: season before that stuff, So work several off seasons before
[1:24:20] Speaker 2: that even gets entertained. And I think the Bears would
[1:24:22] Speaker 2: be all over that trade if it was available.
