Colin’s joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” to break down the NFL schedule! They start with a ridiculously easy schedule for the 49ers (3:30) and debate whether that gives Brock Purdy leverage in contract negotiations and whether Kyle Shannahan has been too involved with drafting (6:45). They highlight the Chiefs schedule as being particularly brutal due to their weak offensive line and the elite pass rushes they’ll face (10:30) and the pressure NFC North teams will face (15:30). They dive into the reports that Caleb Williams debated forcing his way out of Chicago drafting him (27:00) and why he’ll be better set up for success with Ben Johnson as head coach (33:30). Finally, they discuss what the Steelers will do at quarterback if Aaron Rodgers decides to retire (34:45) and why that franchise has stagnated in recent years (38:00) (Timestamps may vary based on advertisements.) [0:01] Speaker 1: The volume. Hey, so we all make mistakes, but owning
[0:05] Speaker 1: up to them is the right thing to do. So
[0:07] Speaker 1: you know Degree cool Rush deodorant right, Well, last year
[0:10] Speaker 1: they changed the formula and it did not go over
[0:13] Speaker 1: well with their fans. So Degrees the whole thing is
[0:15] Speaker 1: it turns up the sweat and odor protection when you
[0:18] Speaker 1: turn up the effort, and good thing it does, because
[0:21] Speaker 1: cool Rush fans really turned up the effort to bring
[0:23] Speaker 1: the original formula back. One guy even started an online
[0:26] Speaker 1: petition and Degree listened. They admitted they fed up. They're
[0:29] Speaker 1: bringing back the original cool Rush scent. They're bringing it
[0:31] Speaker 1: back and it's exactly how you remember it, cool, crisp
[0:33] Speaker 1: and fresh. It's back in Walmart, Target and other stores
[0:37] Speaker 1: now for under four dollars. There's a reason that's been
[0:39] Speaker 1: the number one men's anti perspirant for the last decade.
[0:41] Speaker 1: It's the same reason why people were not happy when
[0:44] Speaker 1: it changed. So if you've never tried it, it might
[0:46] Speaker 1: be a good time to see what the fuss is about.
[0:47] Speaker 1: Head to your local Walmart, Target and try the og
[0:51] Speaker 1: degree cool Rush for yourself. So John Middlecoff, former NFL
[0:59] Speaker 1: Scout three and Out podcast, let's talk some NFL schedule stuff,
[1:03] Speaker 1: and we'll do a half hour on this. I think
[1:05] Speaker 1: it's my first take is so I looked at the
[1:08] Speaker 1: Niner schedule and I knew it would be easy, and
[1:11] Speaker 1: then I watched the way it was laid out, and
[1:13] Speaker 1: I'm like, if you take out Stafford twice and C. J.
[1:15] Speaker 1: Stroud once, this is the weakest schedule in fifteen years.
[1:22] Speaker 1: The Atlanta Falcons had this schedule back in no, I
[1:27] Speaker 1: think it was twenty fifteen. It'd be ten years. So
[1:29] Speaker 1: it's the weakest schedule in a decade. And I would
[1:32] Speaker 1: I'll throw this at you. I said, if I was
[1:34] Speaker 1: John Lynch and looked at the schedule, I would sign
[1:37] Speaker 1: Brock pretty now because this schedule screams twelve and five,
[1:42] Speaker 1: thirteen and four, and right now he's coming off losing season.
[1:47] Speaker 1: So if you have any leverage, could I say, John,
[1:50] Speaker 1: it's the next month to two. Yeah.
[1:53] Speaker 2: I mean, I think his we obviously spent so much
[1:56] Speaker 2: time talking about this. His whole thing is comparing himself
[1:59] Speaker 2: to other guys, and these recent contracts of guys like
[2:03] Speaker 2: Jordan Love who played eight games and got one hundred
[2:05] Speaker 2: and seventy five million, Tua who got one hundred and
[2:07] Speaker 2: sixty million Trevor Lawrence who got two hundred million dollars. Like,
[2:11] Speaker 2: he does have a leg to stand on, given that
[2:13] Speaker 2: he's played well and you know, been a part of
[2:16] Speaker 2: a team that was in a Super Bowl. But my
[2:19] Speaker 2: issue is, like that money's coming, Like he's getting the contract.
[2:22] Speaker 2: We don't know exactly one hundred and fifty million, one
[2:24] Speaker 2: hundred and eighty million, one hundred.
[2:25] Speaker 1: And thirty million.
[2:26] Speaker 2: I'm sure that's you pay him. Let's just say conservatively
[2:30] Speaker 2: fifty million dollars a year. Kyle is one of the
[2:33] Speaker 2: highest paid coaches at fifteen to eighteen million dollars a year.
[2:35] Speaker 2: If I'm paying my head coach and my quarterback close
[2:38] Speaker 2: to seventy million dollars a year at minimum, I don't
[2:41] Speaker 2: care who else is on the team because this roster
[2:43] Speaker 2: is not as good as it was a couple of
[2:44] Speaker 2: years ago. I need double digit wins. I mean, we've
[2:47] Speaker 2: seen it with the with the Rams last couple of years,
[2:49] Speaker 2: they found a way as they retooled. I would say
[2:51] Speaker 2: anything less than double digit wins. I have supported Kyle
[2:54] Speaker 2: thinking like, oh he's on the hot seat. That was
[2:56] Speaker 2: insane talk. But there is a contingent of the those
[3:00] Speaker 2: humans that exist over You know, Kyle can rub some
[3:03] Speaker 2: people the wrong way. I think he's a pretty elite coach.
[3:06] Speaker 2: He's proven that, but this is a big year for
[3:08] Speaker 2: him to Again, I don't need twelve thirteen wins. I
[3:11] Speaker 2: don't think the roster is quite as good. But if
[3:13] Speaker 2: the Ravens or the Bills or the Chiefs had this schedule,
[3:15] Speaker 2: we'd be talking like, can they run the table? Ten
[3:18] Speaker 2: wins minimum? I think is more than fair, and I
[3:20] Speaker 2: think that is going to be the expectation or things
[3:22] Speaker 2: have gone really really sour.
[3:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, I said that if you gave Stafford Burrow, not
[3:29] Speaker 1: Burrow because Cincinnati I don't trust their front office and ownership.
[3:32] Speaker 1: But if you gave Josh Allen, Lamar Mahomes and I
[3:34] Speaker 1: think Stafford and McVeigh this, we would be talking about
[3:37] Speaker 1: thirteen or fourteen wins. I mean even Vegas would probably
[3:39] Speaker 1: put the over under at twelve to twelve and a half. So,
[3:42] Speaker 1: you know, I think one of the things that bothered
[3:45] Speaker 1: me John, I've said this, and this is my interpretation.
[3:48] Speaker 1: I could tell when Bill Belichick took over drafting with
[3:51] Speaker 1: the Patriots, he was drafting players who had plug immediate holes,
[3:55] Speaker 1: often reaching for people. General managers gen to have a
[3:59] Speaker 1: tend to have a a little bit of a longer vision.
[4:02] Speaker 1: I can tell when Pete Carolyn Seattle, I could tell
[4:06] Speaker 1: they were reaching on some players, and I'm like, that's
[4:09] Speaker 1: not John Snyder. Last couple of drafts when John's controlled
[4:12] Speaker 1: them have been excellent. I do feel like the last
[4:15] Speaker 1: couple of years, I felt like Kyle's had a lot
[4:17] Speaker 1: of say in drafting. I find their drafts for the moment,
[4:23] Speaker 1: not for the future. I Ricky Pierre Saliz like, you've
[4:28] Speaker 1: got Jennings and Deebo and Ayuk and Kittle and McCaffrey.
[4:31] Speaker 1: You've got enough pass catchers. That felt like a coach
[4:35] Speaker 1: who wanted a little you know, wanted to replace Debo.
[4:39] Speaker 1: That's what I see. I tend to be able to say, okay,
[4:42] Speaker 1: I can tell that to coach's draft or a coach
[4:44] Speaker 1: is putting pressure. I didn't like the Niners draft. I
[4:47] Speaker 1: thought they didn't attack the offensive line, which is a
[4:49] Speaker 1: huge issue. What did you view of their draft?
[4:52] Speaker 2: I've come to the expectations now Kyle's admitted, like, we
[4:54] Speaker 2: don't value offensive lineman unless we think you're like an
[4:57] Speaker 2: all time great. We'll pick a skill guy. We're definitely
[5:00] Speaker 2: a defensive lineman, which I'm four. But they just don't
[5:03] Speaker 2: draft offensive lineman, especially tackles. He's not going to draft
[5:06] Speaker 2: to tackle in the third round, which I think is insane.
[5:08] Speaker 2: I had a college scouting director because I was talking
[5:12] Speaker 2: a lot about this too during and before the draft.
[5:15] Speaker 2: How you know different personnel departments work, He says, you
[5:18] Speaker 2: can always tell when the coach is heavily involved because
[5:20] Speaker 2: they treat the draft. You can tell they're looking at
[5:23] Speaker 2: the depth chart. You know, scouts in front offices aren't
[5:26] Speaker 2: consumed with the depth chart because the depth chart, to
[5:28] Speaker 2: Kyle is Week one against Seattle. You know, John Lynch
[5:31] Speaker 2: and these like Michael Williams is a real pick, right,
[5:34] Speaker 2: the kid from Florigia. That's a big picture pick that
[5:36] Speaker 2: any team takes. That's not the depth chart. Whether you
[5:39] Speaker 2: had ten defensive ends or one, you have no problem
[5:42] Speaker 2: picking him. But like you said, Ricky Piersall, it's like, well,
[5:45] Speaker 2: you know this IU thing's going sour. We're already turning
[5:48] Speaker 2: on Deebo. Might we might trade him right now or
[5:50] Speaker 2: over the next year. That's a depth chart move. And
[5:53] Speaker 2: I think that's where you get into trouble. You know,
[5:56] Speaker 2: there's a balance of need and big picture, but coaches
[5:59] Speaker 2: are just oh, Kyle's Kyle's not worried about twenty twenty seven.
[6:03] Speaker 2: He's worried about this year trying to win eleven games
[6:05] Speaker 2: and be in the playoffs. And I don't blame him,
[6:08] Speaker 2: but that's why there's got to be a little separation
[6:10] Speaker 2: between church and state. You know. I look at the
[6:13] Speaker 2: Eagles have the most powerful GM. Look how they've drafted
[6:16] Speaker 2: and the coaching staff coach the players. It's gone pretty well.
[6:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so. And I also think there are things.
[6:24] Speaker 1: I think Arizona is going to be a real team.
[6:26] Speaker 1: I think I think Seattle's roster is really impressive. I
[6:29] Speaker 1: think the Vikings will miss Sam Darnold. And I think
[6:31] Speaker 1: the Rams defense, I think it's the best young defense
[6:33] Speaker 1: in the NFL. So I thought last year was a
[6:36] Speaker 1: year where Arizona and the Rams over I mean I
[6:39] Speaker 1: thought the Rams overachieved a little. I thought the Arizona
[6:42] Speaker 1: wasn't quite there yet with a new coach, and I
[6:45] Speaker 1: thought Seattle with Gino Smith, had limitations at quarterback. I
[6:48] Speaker 1: think the division's much better. So yeah, I mean, so,
[6:52] Speaker 1: I just I just don't feel it. The schedules. It's
[6:55] Speaker 1: a save. I'll tell you that because I.
[6:57] Speaker 2: Do think this though, Colin, if you go, we do agree.
[7:00] Speaker 2: Kyle Shanahan has faults at times, is one of the
[7:03] Speaker 2: better coaches in the NFL.
[7:05] Speaker 1: Yes, listen.
[7:06] Speaker 2: Robert Sola, head coach Jets, not an easy spot, A
[7:09] Speaker 2: little over his head. Most people view him as an
[7:12] Speaker 2: excellent defensive coordinator. I don't know. I don't have the
[7:15] Speaker 2: spreadsheet because it's not public. I would imagine Kyle and
[7:18] Speaker 2: Robert Sala when you combine the head coach and defensive
[7:21] Speaker 2: coordinator beside like Andy and Spags, that there can't be
[7:24] Speaker 2: a higher paid combination. This is a coaching league, right
[7:28] Speaker 2: Because you talk a lot about this, the margins are small.
[7:31] Speaker 2: I think you've got to like your chances. Even if
[7:33] Speaker 2: you've got some now random players on the team that
[7:36] Speaker 2: their coach, their offensive and defensive coordinator. The guys calling
[7:39] Speaker 2: the place are really good. So I'm a little more
[7:42] Speaker 2: bullish now we're going to find out pretty quickly, like
[7:45] Speaker 2: if they've whiffed on some picks. I don't care if
[7:47] Speaker 2: you've got Bill Walsh and Belichick in his prime. You
[7:50] Speaker 2: can only do this is the NFL, Like you need
[7:52] Speaker 2: some of these guys to become players.
[7:55] Speaker 1: So I want to talk about Kansas City. So when
[7:59] Speaker 1: you have a dynas, every dynasty's got a weak spot.
[8:02] Speaker 1: Like when New England got into trouble was near the
[8:08] Speaker 1: end of the second dynasty when they just didn't have
[8:11] Speaker 1: enough receiver speed, when they couldn't separate. Tom had to
[8:15] Speaker 1: play perfect, nobody could get open. The famous sideline shot
[8:19] Speaker 1: of him screaming, somebody get open. That was the hole
[8:22] Speaker 1: in their dynasty. Outside of the Randy Moss years. You know,
[8:25] Speaker 1: they weren't electric down the field. It was more tight ends,
[8:29] Speaker 1: run game, Tom's efficiency, Tom's twenty three for twenty nine.
[8:32] Speaker 1: They just don't make mistakes. They beat you late. They
[8:34] Speaker 1: were never electric except the Randy Moss hears on the perimeter.
[8:38] Speaker 1: Kansas City's weakness has been immature wide receivers and offensive
[8:44] Speaker 1: line when they've been blown out, and it's only happened
[8:47] Speaker 1: a couple times, both in Super Bowls. They've had left
[8:50] Speaker 1: tackle issues or offensive line depth problems. They're just missing
[8:54] Speaker 1: good players. So I look at this year. Joe Tooney
[8:57] Speaker 1: was their best offensive lineman. He's not a replaceable. There's
[9:00] Speaker 1: nobody in the draft close. They're now going left tackle
[9:04] Speaker 1: for a guy that was a backup in San Francisco.
[9:07] Speaker 1: This is to me the weakest O line they've had
[9:10] Speaker 1: entering a season. Can they make a move at the
[9:12] Speaker 1: trade deadline, certainly possible. But if you go look at
[9:17] Speaker 1: their first ten games, John, even the bad teams they play,
[9:20] Speaker 1: the Giants now have Abdul Carter Dexter, Lawrence Tibodeau. On
[9:25] Speaker 1: the other side, the Raiders have Max Crosby the Broncos.
[9:29] Speaker 1: They're better than Broncos led the NFL in sacks. The
[9:32] Speaker 1: Jaguars have a good defensive front. I'm just mentioning the
[9:35] Speaker 1: games that look like wins. I looked at Kansas City
[9:39] Speaker 1: schedule early and I'm like they could have used some
[9:41] Speaker 1: of those games late, because you know, it takes a
[9:44] Speaker 1: while to create COH. You don't replace Joe Toney in
[9:47] Speaker 1: the preseason like you need snaps. I thought Kansas City
[9:51] Speaker 1: schedule was about as tough as the league deals to
[9:56] Speaker 1: to a Andy Reid Mahomes pairing.
[9:59] Speaker 2: Well. I also think he'sier on players to play, you know,
[10:02] Speaker 2: games at noon in Kansas City than they have five
[10:05] Speaker 2: of their first eight games at prime time, and they
[10:07] Speaker 2: got to go to Bruzil, which I understand the international,
[10:11] Speaker 2: especially now with streaming the Brazil thing. I don't quite
[10:13] Speaker 2: get Colin going down a CYC. I don't quite understand
[10:16] Speaker 2: that market. But I'll say this about the Chiefs. Their
[10:21] Speaker 2: first round draft pick would have been a top ten
[10:23] Speaker 2: pick had he not torn his knee. Well that's pretty
[10:25] Speaker 2: big red flag towards knee. But assuming that he can
[10:28] Speaker 2: come back, they did get a very very talented guy
[10:31] Speaker 2: in Josh Simmons that can play left tackle. Now, whether
[10:34] Speaker 2: he's ready for the start, whether he goes un pop,
[10:37] Speaker 2: time will tell. But that was not just this year,
[10:40] Speaker 2: but over the course of the next several years they
[10:41] Speaker 2: might have found their starting left tackle. The BYU kid
[10:44] Speaker 2: that ultimately got benched and Tooney had to move to
[10:47] Speaker 2: left tackle, I think they plan on moving him to guard.
[10:50] Speaker 2: So Andie Reid has a long history of mix and
[10:52] Speaker 2: matching and figuring things out. I know you're high on
[10:55] Speaker 2: the Chargers, and I am too. I'm a Jim Harbaugh homer.
[10:59] Speaker 2: Of course, they take a running back in the first
[11:01] Speaker 2: round that'll end up being like a fourteen hundred yard
[11:03] Speaker 2: Rusher by a second year restar. But I just can't
[11:07] Speaker 2: and I have been someone and I know these guys personally.
[11:10] Speaker 2: I've bet against them twice down in the last two years,
[11:12] Speaker 2: against the Ravens and the Bills, and that was the playoffs,
[11:15] Speaker 2: and I've been burned. We saw last year. Everyone was
[11:17] Speaker 2: nitpicking them week in week out. They won every freaking game.
[11:21] Speaker 2: Now the big difference between them and the Patriots is
[11:23] Speaker 2: Patriots benefited. Their division was pretty terrible, Like this version
[11:26] Speaker 2: of the Bills team was not even close. Miami was
[11:29] Speaker 2: a joke, right, So their division, this division's really really hard.
[11:33] Speaker 2: I mean, Pete Carroll, if he's the worst has the
[11:36] Speaker 2: worst team in your division, Like that's a problem. But
[11:38] Speaker 2: I think the Chiefs, you know, we throw that the
[11:41] Speaker 2: word culture, I think sometimes gets thrown around two liberally.
[11:45] Speaker 2: It's real in Kansas City, like they're winning. Understanding, Listen,
[11:48] Speaker 2: there's gonna be a year when they don't make the
[11:50] Speaker 2: super Bowl and they get knocked out in the second round.
[11:52] Speaker 2: But it's gonna be hard. You're gonna have to kok
[11:53] Speaker 2: him out, and I'm picking them to win the division
[11:55] Speaker 2: until they don't. Now, this is clearly I would say
[11:58] Speaker 2: of the last five or six, you know, since the
[12:00] Speaker 2: homes era, gonna be the most difficult. But you know,
[12:04] Speaker 2: come on the Giants week three at Jacksonville, Like I
[12:08] Speaker 2: get it, Sunday night, Monday night, big moment for those
[12:11] Speaker 2: two against Liam Cohen and this Jackson Dart maybe Russell Wilson.
[12:15] Speaker 2: I'm just picking the Chiefs in those games.
[12:18] Speaker 1: Is there anything that I mean? They have the vikings
[12:22] Speaker 1: back to back in London. I don't like Minnesota like
[12:25] Speaker 1: everybody else. I think they're a fourth place team. Was
[12:27] Speaker 1: there anything about the schedule that jumped out to you?
[12:31] Speaker 2: I think when you look at I lump Minnesota and
[12:34] Speaker 2: Chicago in the same thing. I got thirty years of history.
[12:36] Speaker 2: Green Bay every year, for the most part is ten
[12:38] Speaker 2: plus wins right right. And the Lions now I think
[12:41] Speaker 2: have established themselves. What happens in the playoffs, who knows,
[12:44] Speaker 2: but they're going to be a double digit win team.
[12:47] Speaker 2: When you look at the Bears and you look at
[12:48] Speaker 2: Minnesota because of the divisions that they drew this year
[12:51] Speaker 2: in the rotation, it's hard and the pressure. Listen, this
[12:56] Speaker 2: Caleb thing, I'm sure we'll talk about it. A lot
[12:58] Speaker 2: of pressure on him, a lot of pressure on bears,
[13:00] Speaker 2: a lot of pressure on McCarthy, and the pressure is
[13:03] Speaker 2: not like on DJ Moore or Justin Jefferson. It's squarely
[13:06] Speaker 2: on the quarterback. And these games, like you said, you open,
[13:12] Speaker 2: you open your your NFL career at Chicago, Like that's
[13:15] Speaker 2: just that's tough. And hell, you could argue the same
[13:18] Speaker 2: thing on the flip side about at Caleb Williams, your
[13:20] Speaker 2: first game with his new coach Monday night for everyone watching,
[13:23] Speaker 2: Like these are just intense environments on these two quarterbacks. Now,
[13:27] Speaker 2: Caleb has some seasoning like he JG does not in
[13:30] Speaker 2: terms of ever played a regular season game. But I
[13:32] Speaker 2: think those two schedules for those two guys. Not every
[13:36] Speaker 2: team in this division can win ten plus games. One
[13:38] Speaker 2: of these teams is gonna go eight or nine or
[13:40] Speaker 2: worse right, it's gonna be one of those two teams.
[13:42] Speaker 2: I don't know which one. Like I know Kevin O'Connell
[13:45] Speaker 2: can be a head coach. I love the Vikings roster,
[13:48] Speaker 2: but man, this guy's never started a regular season game.
[13:51] Speaker 2: If you told me right now he's a top fifteen quarterback,
[13:55] Speaker 2: I'd be like, they'll win ten or eleven games, no problem.
[13:58] Speaker 2: But if you tell me it's rocky. I don't care
[14:00] Speaker 2: how you could have ten justin Jefferson's If your quarterback
[14:03] Speaker 2: plays overwhelmed, it's hard. I mean we see it every year.
[14:07] Speaker 2: Good teams and the quarterback plays.
[14:08] Speaker 1: Poor well, and the Packers drafted a first round round
[14:12] Speaker 1: wide receiver. The Lions are stacked offensively. The Bears has
[14:15] Speaker 1: been a fortune on the offensive line. JJ McCarthy's going
[14:19] Speaker 1: to have to throw the ball thirty five times. This
[14:21] Speaker 1: is not a defensive division. This is not the AFC North,
[14:25] Speaker 1: this is the NFC North, and it is going to
[14:28] Speaker 1: be a track meet. And so that's my question with
[14:31] Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy. I would feel differently if you were in
[14:34] Speaker 1: a different division. But Detroit is stacked offensively with the
[14:38] Speaker 1: best of line in the league. You can say what
[14:40] Speaker 1: you want about Ben Johnson is going to be better
[14:42] Speaker 1: with Caleb Williams than Matti. Everflus and Dolmen and Toney
[14:45] Speaker 1: changed the offensive line, and then and then you know,
[14:50] Speaker 1: Green Bay's Green Bay. They went and got another wider receiver,
[14:53] Speaker 1: which tells you we're going to make this Jordan love
[14:55] Speaker 1: thing work. And it wasn't terrible last year. There was
[14:58] Speaker 1: some bumps. So my thing is Karthi, who never threw
[15:00] Speaker 1: the ball at Michigan, is going to be asked to
[15:02] Speaker 1: throw the ball forty times a game a lot because
[15:04] Speaker 1: either they'll be trailing or they'll be in shootouts. This
[15:07] Speaker 1: is going to be a shootout division. So I just
[15:09] Speaker 1: don't love them with that is the marquee of the movie.
[15:13] Speaker 2: But do you feel comfortable. I mean, listen, we have
[15:17] Speaker 2: a strong recent history of these young offensive coordinators hitting
[15:21] Speaker 2: the ground, running and being stars. Some of them get
[15:24] Speaker 2: overwhelmed historically in the league, like Ben Johnson. It is
[15:27] Speaker 2: this is not an easy first job, right, It's like
[15:30] Speaker 2: solid with the Jets. A lot of people are watching.
[15:32] Speaker 2: There's a ton of hype the Caleb stuff is already
[15:35] Speaker 2: even though it's weird, right, everything we're talking about today
[15:38] Speaker 2: in this article is based on something eighteen months ago.
[15:40] Speaker 2: It's not like he just said this yesterday. But still,
[15:43] Speaker 2: I mean, this is something that carries with you. I
[15:46] Speaker 2: think there's a ton of pressure on him because I
[15:47] Speaker 2: would say the same thing about Caleb, like he's just
[15:51] Speaker 2: gonna outduel the Laflor's offense and the Lions group. I
[15:55] Speaker 2: mean it's gonna be hard, Like he's gonna get in
[15:57] Speaker 2: some shootouts. You know, he kind of freelanced now, he's comfortable,
[16:00] Speaker 2: he has a history, he is used to. I've been
[16:03] Speaker 2: in shootouts. I can play like that. JJ was not.
[16:05] Speaker 2: I mean JJ was on a team that I mean
[16:08] Speaker 2: was the big Ohio State is always built like an
[16:11] Speaker 2: SEC team, but Hardball built that thing like an SEC
[16:14] Speaker 2: team with unlimited NFL players where they hand the ball
[16:16] Speaker 2: off and they play defense. So yeah, that's right, one
[16:19] Speaker 2: of those two teams. I got to give it a
[16:21] Speaker 2: little more time, but it's just not going to go
[16:24] Speaker 2: as well as the hype because the expectations. I would say,
[16:26] Speaker 2: for I mean for Minnesota, they have a what do
[16:29] Speaker 2: you think a top six to seven roster in the
[16:31] Speaker 2: NFL minus the quarterback. I mean, they got one of
[16:34] Speaker 2: the better teams in the NFL top to Bobo. And
[16:36] Speaker 2: I'd say the Bears have a pretty damn good roster too.
[16:39] Speaker 1: Oh. I totally think I think Chicago's offensive you go
[16:43] Speaker 1: line tight end, receivers and Ben Johnson I just don't see,
[16:49] Speaker 1: you know, I mean, go look at Hackett to Sean Payton.
[16:52] Speaker 1: It was a touchdown to eight points a game. And
[16:54] Speaker 1: I think eber Flews to Ben Johnson, is probably somewhere
[16:59] Speaker 1: between a field goal six points a game.
[17:01] Speaker 2: But here's the thing, though, Colin's and this is what
[17:04] Speaker 2: I get back to with the coordinator Ben with Detroit,
[17:07] Speaker 2: who was just became like Kyle Shanahan or mcpayh or whoever.
[17:10] Speaker 2: All he had to worry about was the place right
[17:12] Speaker 2: now on Monday. What happens when your backup safety got
[17:16] Speaker 2: a dui on Tuesday? Hey, this guy turns out he
[17:20] Speaker 2: shattered his ankle. Like you have all this other stuff coming.
[17:22] Speaker 2: You can't just sit there and scheme plays NonStop, especially
[17:26] Speaker 2: the first time head coach, and then when the game's
[17:28] Speaker 2: going on, you got to manage the cl You got
[17:31] Speaker 2: a lot going on for the first time ever. It's
[17:33] Speaker 2: just a tougher transition. And that's where Kevin O'Connell to me,
[17:36] Speaker 2: has a big advantage. He is used to just being
[17:39] Speaker 2: the play caller, slash the boss. Like there is a
[17:42] Speaker 2: learning If you told me, hey, John, you not only
[17:44] Speaker 2: need to get all the content and record a podcast,
[17:47] Speaker 2: we now need you to run the sales and the
[17:50] Speaker 2: graphics and do some cuts you need to do, it'd
[17:54] Speaker 2: be a curve for a couple months of me figuring
[17:56] Speaker 2: out how to manage everything right. So that's I'm always
[17:59] Speaker 2: just hesitant. And when it comes to guys first time
[18:02] Speaker 2: head coaches, like think how much easier Pete Carroll. He's
[18:04] Speaker 2: sitting in that desk, he's very comfortable in telling who
[18:07] Speaker 2: what to do when like he's just done it before.
[18:09] Speaker 2: So that's that's the only thing. And I'm not anti
[18:12] Speaker 2: Ben Johnson. I mean what he did the last couple
[18:14] Speaker 2: of years was awesome. It is just a lot harder
[18:16] Speaker 2: taking on a lot more responsibility and trying to maintain
[18:19] Speaker 2: your boy genius kind of narrative the way everyone talks
[18:23] Speaker 2: about him.
[18:23] Speaker 1: Like the NBA eighty two game grind is done. Now

[20:03] Speaker 1: You know, the Caleb thing is funny. So I went
[20:05] Speaker 1: on Chicago radio a year ago before the draft, and
[20:09] Speaker 1: I don't do a lot of local radio shows because
[20:11] Speaker 1: I don't know who the people are, and you know
[20:14] Speaker 1: they you can get burned. But I was I knew
[20:17] Speaker 1: I was going to move to Chicago. So I go
[20:18] Speaker 1: on the Chicago radio station. I forget which one and
[20:22] Speaker 1: and I say, you know, I'm being told that it's
[20:28] Speaker 1: Caleb Williams. Would ideally, his dad would not want him
[20:31] Speaker 1: to go to Chicago, but he's going to bite the
[20:34] Speaker 1: bullet and he loves the city and he wants to
[20:37] Speaker 1: He wants to be the first Great Bears quarterback. Well,
[20:40] Speaker 1: I go off the air and somebody sends me something
[20:42] Speaker 1: or a clip or something where they basically dogged my sources.
[20:46] Speaker 1: Coward doesn't know anything. Well, it comes out Seth Wickersham
[20:48] Speaker 1: basically today came out and said, yeah, basically, his dad
[20:53] Speaker 1: didn't want him to go there. He's got multiple quotes,
[20:55] Speaker 1: and I'm like, well, may have been that Seth and
[20:58] Speaker 1: I had some of the same sources. Was he had agents,
[21:02] Speaker 1: apparently Seth that talked to his dad. There had been
[21:04] Speaker 1: multiple agents. I didn't get it from Caleb's dad, but
[21:07] Speaker 1: I did get it from people very close to Caleb,
[21:10] Speaker 1: and so I think it was the same station reached
[21:13] Speaker 1: out and said, hey, you want to come back on
[21:15] Speaker 1: and spike the football. And I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna
[21:16] Speaker 1: pass on that. You know, I'm not bitter, but it's like,
[21:20] Speaker 1: you know, if I give you that, if you if
[21:21] Speaker 1: I give you the time, don't question my sources. You
[21:23] Speaker 1: don't have to like my opinion. But you know, I
[21:26] Speaker 1: wouldn't go on and make stuff up. So and the
[21:30] Speaker 1: truth was, and.
[21:31] Speaker 2: I was Caleb kind of come out or like some
[21:34] Speaker 2: of his people right away after you said that and
[21:36] Speaker 2: say it's kind of bad, right.
[21:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, Well they said we're good, We're good. Of course
[21:41] Speaker 1: they did. They don't and I and you know, like
[21:46] Speaker 1: I knew the game. That's why I didn't react to
[21:47] Speaker 1: that I knew what was going on. I knew what
[21:49] Speaker 1: I'd been told. I knew it was the truth. Somebody
[21:52] Speaker 1: who had been good never burned me. It was fourth
[21:54] Speaker 1: or fifth time I've gotten good information from somebody. But
[21:57] Speaker 1: the point was I didn't blame him. I said, yeah,
[22:00] Speaker 1: if my son was a quarterback, I wouldn't want them
[22:02] Speaker 1: to play for the Bears. They've never had a four
[22:03] Speaker 1: thousand yard pastor. That's literally impossible. That's like, right, driving
[22:08] Speaker 1: a car for your entire life and never having like
[22:11] Speaker 1: a parking ticket or a speeding ticket. It's just gonna happen.
[22:13] Speaker 1: It's inevitable, right like and so, and when the story
[22:17] Speaker 1: came out today, my take is it just doesn't bother me.
[22:21] Speaker 1: Like they looked into you know, what could they do
[22:24] Speaker 1: legally and they said, yeah, the only way around it
[22:27] Speaker 1: is just to do an l way and go public
[22:29] Speaker 1: and let's just not do it. But it doesn't bother me.
[22:32] Speaker 1: We've got an Elie situation. We've got an L way,
[22:35] Speaker 1: and I think the Bears are historically unique. It's they've
[22:40] Speaker 1: just never done that position, right, Does it bother you?
[22:43] Speaker 1: Now that Seth Wickersham comes out and says, yeah, they
[22:46] Speaker 1: thought about making a stink.
[22:48] Speaker 2: No. I mean, ultimately, I don't really give a shit,
[22:50] Speaker 2: but I would say this. I don't think it helps
[22:52] Speaker 2: scalem And I always take the stance of like, I
[22:56] Speaker 2: never blame you know, wives parents, their relationship with a
[23:03] Speaker 2: player is so much different than everyone else, right, so
[23:07] Speaker 2: they are so much closer to the son emotionally. It
[23:10] Speaker 2: doesn't bother me. I know people with Oklahoma. I was
[23:13] Speaker 2: hearing a long time ago that his dad's a lot.
[23:16] Speaker 2: That's part of college sports. You deal a lot with
[23:19] Speaker 2: the parents. In the pros, nobody wants to hear from
[23:23] Speaker 2: mom or dad.
[23:24] Speaker 1: Not a soul.
[23:25] Speaker 2: We're paying Caleb forty million dollars guaranteed, let's throw thirty touchdowns.
[23:29] Speaker 2: And I think his comments sometimes like, you know, he's
[23:34] Speaker 2: trying to be a support of dad. No one has
[23:36] Speaker 2: any issue with that. Jayden Daniels's mom forces all the
[23:40] Speaker 2: floozies to stay away from her son. Well, guess what
[23:43] Speaker 2: her son's playing really well in football. She doesn't talk
[23:46] Speaker 2: anything about his professional life. It's all personal stuff. This
[23:49] Speaker 2: guy comes out and makes comments about the CBA is unconstitutional,
[23:54] Speaker 2: the rookie Wade scale, Well, why do they create a
[23:56] Speaker 2: rookie Wade scale because guys like JaMarcus Russell were scared
[24:00] Speaker 2: in the league where the veterans weren't getting the money.
[24:02] Speaker 2: So Caleb, you know if that rookie Wade scale hadn't
[24:05] Speaker 2: been so when you make comments like that, people kind
[24:07] Speaker 2: of look side eyed.
[24:09] Speaker 1: Listen.
[24:09] Speaker 2: And the other thing that really comes through is Ryan
[24:11] Speaker 2: Poles is quoted in there like we're taking you, buddy,
[24:13] Speaker 2: so get ready like this you talk about this a
[24:16] Speaker 2: lot player empowerment in the NFL doesn't really roll like that.
[24:19] Speaker 2: I would say this if you're Ryan Poles, Like, you
[24:22] Speaker 2: know Adam Peters. Do you think Adam Peters right now
[24:24] Speaker 2: would trade Jayden Daniels for Caleb Williams in this situation?
[24:28] Speaker 2: And here's the other thing. A lot of cabs Caleb
[24:31] Speaker 2: wasn't making these comments about the CBA are going to
[24:33] Speaker 2: the UFL. Is coming from his dad. But all these
[24:36] Speaker 2: comments get aggregated and a lot of the players in
[24:38] Speaker 2: the league see this and they're like, who does this
[24:40] Speaker 2: kid think he is? And I just think it adds pressure.
[24:43] Speaker 2: And again this is I would be more worked up
[24:46] Speaker 2: if these comments came last week or two weeks ago.
[24:48] Speaker 2: This was last January February, before he got into the NFL.
[24:52] Speaker 2: But I'm sorry, it just does not help his situation.
[24:56] Speaker 2: It adds pressure, It just adds a lot of craziness
[24:59] Speaker 2: to this situation. New coach and they get to start fresh.
[25:02] Speaker 1: But I just think that.
[25:04] Speaker 2: Like, we just need to calm down and just and
[25:06] Speaker 2: just win some games and throw some touchdowns before you start.
[25:09] Speaker 2: Remember last year the equity talk, we want in on
[25:12] Speaker 2: the franchise, You're going to go to the UFL and
[25:15] Speaker 2: sit out of You're like, give me a break, you know.
[25:17] Speaker 2: And again this is his dad, not it's Caleb. It's
[25:20] Speaker 2: not saying I'm going to the UFL. And at the
[25:22] Speaker 2: end of the day, all these comments didn't come true.
[25:25] Speaker 2: He just allowed he went to the Bears and what
[25:28] Speaker 2: they were not wrong about the coaching staff. I mean
[25:30] Speaker 2: that was a disaster, which we all knew coming in.
[25:33] Speaker 2: But I think sometimes with a very aggressive parent like this,
[25:37] Speaker 2: and I haven't seen a quote from Caleb's dad since
[25:39] Speaker 2: he got in the league, you gotta be careful about
[25:42] Speaker 2: saying some of this stuff because your son has to
[25:45] Speaker 2: cash those checks on the field. So I just think
[25:48] Speaker 2: if you're the Bears, like you're like oh my god
[25:51] Speaker 2: when you see this come out, because again, didn't he
[25:53] Speaker 2: write a book on a bunch of quarterbacks and this
[25:56] Speaker 2: is the thing that gets cut and this is you know,
[25:59] Speaker 2: the headlines going viral, getting just sent around. I'm telling you,
[26:03] Speaker 2: Adam Peters goes to bed like out my quarterbacks just
[26:06] Speaker 2: no issues, no problems, and it's just sometimes it's your family.
[26:10] Speaker 2: But man, is you just don't want to to deal
[26:13] Speaker 2: with any of this, especially when you're not making place.
[26:15] Speaker 2: I mean, it just did not go well.
[26:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he's set up for success now. I
[26:22] Speaker 1: mean we were talking about in the show today Tua
[26:24] Speaker 1: and Jared Goff had bad first years in bad relationships
[26:27] Speaker 1: with coaches or at least coach coaches that didn't get them.
[26:30] Speaker 1: I do think there's more good offensive coaching than ever
[26:33] Speaker 1: before in the league. And your second or third team
[26:35] Speaker 1: Gino Smith, Sam Darnold, Baker, Mayfield. You know, Baker got
[26:39] Speaker 1: Liam Cohen and McVeigh after Freddie Kitchens, like it does
[26:42] Speaker 1: sometimes take a while. It used to be if your
[26:45] Speaker 1: first place didn't work, there just weren't that many great
[26:48] Speaker 1: offensive coaches in the league and they weren't leaving places
[26:50] Speaker 1: where they were located now, guys, it's a much more
[26:53] Speaker 1: mobile society. There's good offensive coaches. If you have one
[26:57] Speaker 1: or two good years at a place, you're a head
[26:59] Speaker 1: coach if you're not off coach. So you can actually
[27:02] Speaker 1: have a hiccup in your first stop and maybe your second,
[27:05] Speaker 1: and maybe get a third shot. So I think that
[27:08] Speaker 1: bows well for Caleb. Like a Jared Goff, I didn't
[27:11] Speaker 1: think he stood a chance last year. I think it's
[27:14] Speaker 1: much more set up to succeed the You know, we
[27:21] Speaker 1: talk a lot Aaron Rodgers, and I know it's tiring,
[27:24] Speaker 1: but and I really don't care where he goes. If
[27:27] Speaker 1: he retired, great, if he goes to Pittsburgh find they're
[27:30] Speaker 1: a third place team, I don't really care. And he
[27:34] Speaker 1: has some personal drama situation in his life, so I
[27:37] Speaker 1: can have some sympathy for that. I don't really care
[27:40] Speaker 1: that if you were in the league and worked in
[27:43] Speaker 1: the league, if he just retired, how would Pittsburgh view
[27:47] Speaker 1: him if they were caught off guard.
[27:50] Speaker 2: I just don't think they had many other options. Like
[27:52] Speaker 2: I don't think that they are losing a bunch of
[27:55] Speaker 2: sleep over the situation, which sounds crazy, but we have
[27:58] Speaker 2: a pretty good sample size now knowing that they think
[28:01] Speaker 2: they could get around I don't know somehow not having
[28:04] Speaker 2: attempting to get a Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, just drafting quarterbacks.
[28:08] Speaker 2: You're in, you're out. But at this point in time, Colin,
[28:10] Speaker 2: it's May fifteenth. I mean, what are we doing here?
[28:14] Speaker 2: I mean I think they have to at least have
[28:16] Speaker 2: come to grips with like everything's kind of on the
[28:18] Speaker 2: table here that they cannot for a very old school organization.
[28:23] Speaker 2: I saw a quote from I don't think he's the
[28:25] Speaker 2: Papa Rooney. He's like the sixty year old Rooney that said,
[28:28] Speaker 2: you know, we don't love playing at night late in
[28:30] Speaker 2: the season. It's like, well, that usually means you're good.
[28:33] Speaker 2: This comes with the territory. You think Andy Reid wants
[28:35] Speaker 2: to play all these night games. No, but it comes
[28:37] Speaker 2: with being the Chiefs, you're the Pittsburgh Steelers. I just
[28:41] Speaker 2: think they have gotten to this position where it's hard.
[28:44] Speaker 2: I mean, look at the Saints. Drew Brees retires and
[28:47] Speaker 2: they're just going through quarterbacks. They tried to Derek that failed.
[28:50] Speaker 2: Now they're in this weird position with a twenty eight
[28:52] Speaker 2: year old rookie. It's not like an easy solution, but
[28:55] Speaker 2: they've shown their true colors of like their organizational philosophy
[29:00] Speaker 2: is run the ball and play defense. That is Bruce Arians.
[29:03] Speaker 2: When Roethlisberger was turning into a star, the Rooney family
[29:06] Speaker 2: was not happy with them throwing the ball so much.
[29:08] Speaker 2: That was when they were winning the Super Bowl. You know,
[29:12] Speaker 2: the organizational philosophy does not start with Mike Tomlin.
[29:15] Speaker 1: It starts with the Rooney family.
[29:17] Speaker 2: Play d run the ball. I mean, look, they draft
[29:20] Speaker 2: that running back who I like, the Iowa kid, and
[29:23] Speaker 2: they drafted defensive tackle in the first They've been doing
[29:26] Speaker 2: the same thing since well before I was alive, and
[29:29] Speaker 2: I think they are going to be doing it well
[29:30] Speaker 2: after Tomlin's gone one day. So I think whether Rogers
[29:34] Speaker 2: shows up or whether they Mason Rudolph hands the ball
[29:36] Speaker 2: to Caleb Johnson and they try to stuff the run
[29:39] Speaker 2: with Harmon and TJ. Watt like that's how they're gonna play,
[29:42] Speaker 2: which is insane, But you could argue even if he
[29:44] Speaker 2: shows up, they're gonna beat Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson
[29:47] Speaker 2: some of these teams. So it's the Bills. What are
[29:50] Speaker 2: we even talking about? They are kind of stuck they're
[29:53] Speaker 2: like the better version of the post Peyton Drew Brees Saints,
[29:58] Speaker 2: but it still doesn't get you any and it leads
[30:01] Speaker 2: actually to a lot more animosity where it's like what
[30:03] Speaker 2: are we doing? Like how often are we celebrating he's
[30:06] Speaker 2: never had a losing season. Yes, we know he's really
[30:08] Speaker 2: good coach, But like, if the organization we don't pick
[30:12] Speaker 2: or go after young quarterbacks, why not just draft a
[30:14] Speaker 2: quarterback every year in the top couple of rounds just
[30:17] Speaker 2: until you figure it out. When you're in this position,
[30:19] Speaker 2: you got to take some swings. Let's just resign Mason
[30:22] Speaker 2: Rudolph and trade for this, Like this is not gonna work.
[30:25] Speaker 1: Guys. Well, just the fact they keep going back to
[30:28] Speaker 1: Mason Rudolph, he's I mean, they just they It tells
[30:32] Speaker 1: you they're just uncomfortable with risk offensively.
[30:35] Speaker 2: Well, they tried last year, right, which was a little
[30:37] Speaker 2: out of there. They're like, we'll get these two guys
[30:40] Speaker 2: and it ended and there you could tell like that
[30:41] Speaker 2: wasn't really our thing, you know, Russell big personality, fields
[30:46] Speaker 2: got some limitations, but ideally probably not a starter for us.
[30:50] Speaker 2: They didn't like that, and I give them credit for trying.
[30:52] Speaker 2: What they tried, they punted on Kenny Pickett, and clearly
[30:55] Speaker 2: they're like, we're not doing that thing again. Too many
[30:57] Speaker 2: people talking about there, but now they're waiting on Aaron Rodgers.
[31:00] Speaker 2: I don't know, just they're in just a weird space
[31:03] Speaker 2: for a franchise that. I mean, what would you say,
[31:06] Speaker 2: in your lifetime one of the better run American sports
[31:08] Speaker 2: franchises in America?
[31:11] Speaker 1: I thought, until maybe twelve years ago, I thought you
[31:15] Speaker 1: could argue they were the best overall franchise most of
[31:18] Speaker 1: my life. I mean I started watching football nineteen seventy two,
[31:23] Speaker 1: but from like nineteen seventy four, seventy five until maybe
[31:27] Speaker 1: ten to twelve years ago, I thought they were in
[31:29] Speaker 1: the you know, they were in the argument with the Patriots.
[31:33] Speaker 1: You know, Patriots had down years but the Brady years,
[31:35] Speaker 1: but I mean, they were just like well run and
[31:38] Speaker 1: now there it's I always find this this ish is
[31:42] Speaker 1: fascinating to me. Old successful people that can't age well,
[31:47] Speaker 1: and it's it's just really really weird to me. When
[31:50] Speaker 1: you like, when you see Bobby Knight, I'm not going
[31:52] Speaker 1: to do the one and done? Why not do just
[31:55] Speaker 1: want to win games? Like I don't get it or Belichick,
[31:58] Speaker 1: Matt Patricia's the offensive court bill. You're smarter than that.
[32:01] Speaker 1: What are you doing? Like, it's fascinating to me that
[32:05] Speaker 1: all the people in the building in Pittsburgh and they
[32:09] Speaker 1: can't get the offensive line right, they can't get quarterback right,
[32:13] Speaker 1: and they're not I mean, Canny Pikett, I guess was
[32:16] Speaker 1: a swing. But it's like I just it's not that hard.
[32:19] Speaker 1: I think sometimes I underestimate the gap between Like Sean
[32:25] Speaker 1: McVeigh I did this the other day. The Steelers are
[32:29] Speaker 1: the opposite of the Rams. The Rams spend money on
[32:34] Speaker 1: a young, progressive offensive coach, Steelers on an old defensive coach.
[32:39] Speaker 1: One team's made the playoffs like like seven of the
[32:42] Speaker 1: last eight years. The Steelers haven't won a playoff game
[32:47] Speaker 1: in like eight years or something. You know, One team
[32:51] Speaker 1: spends no money on defense. One leads the league in
[32:54] Speaker 1: spending on defense. One never takes a chance on character guys,
[33:00] Speaker 1: like they just they don't put them on their draft board.
[33:02] Speaker 1: One makes a living off that. It's it's almost if
[33:06] Speaker 1: I can't quite figure the Steelers out. They want character,
[33:09] Speaker 1: but nobody's had more divas and high maintenance offensive guys
[33:14] Speaker 1: than the Steelers. They want to win, but then they
[33:18] Speaker 1: don't take care of the number one position like I
[33:20] Speaker 1: just I find them. I feel like there's a messaging
[33:24] Speaker 1: issue in the building. And like Omark Kahan, my sources
[33:28] Speaker 1: don't consider him like a great general manager.
[33:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, I know that what was his name, Colbert, the
[33:35] Speaker 2: former GM, I think was really really highly thought of
[33:38] Speaker 2: in the NFL circles by personnel people. I think people
[33:41] Speaker 2: would say that they've dropped off, you know, in terms
[33:43] Speaker 2: of that just the group Kahn and his group relative
[33:46] Speaker 2: to Colbert, I would say. The other thing is, you know,
[33:49] Speaker 2: once the Ravens moved to Baltimore and Aussie and DaCosta
[33:54] Speaker 2: was with him the whole time they had you know,
[33:57] Speaker 2: during the two thousand now they had really good teams,
[33:58] Speaker 2: but they basically played the Steel every year. They became
[34:00] Speaker 2: their rival, and they copied the way they did things
[34:03] Speaker 2: like toughness, hardcore guys, playing any environment, toughest team in
[34:08] Speaker 2: the league. And now over the last decade plus, it's
[34:11] Speaker 2: like we do it better than you, so we had
[34:14] Speaker 2: a front row seat. It's like you're our main competition
[34:16] Speaker 2: in business. We know exactly how you do things. Yet
[34:20] Speaker 2: we're a little more open minded and progressive to the
[34:22] Speaker 2: way that we scout coach, however, and we've now lacked
[34:25] Speaker 2: you because that's what it feels like. The Ravens are
[34:28] Speaker 2: running circles around them, and hell, the Ravens can't even
[34:32] Speaker 2: get over the hump in the playoffs. But they're in
[34:34] Speaker 2: a different universe than the Steelers. And then the Bengals
[34:37] Speaker 2: listen to a lot of people make fun of them,
[34:39] Speaker 2: but they've hit on some players over the years, and
[34:41] Speaker 2: getting Joe Burrow changed that franchise, regardless of how weird
[34:44] Speaker 2: and rinky dink it can feel sometimes, but I do
[34:47] Speaker 2: think the Ravens kind of getting their blueprint and then
[34:52] Speaker 2: modernizing it like the Internet version, has really hurt if
[34:56] Speaker 2: the Ravens were a little bit more of just a
[34:58] Speaker 2: regular run of the mill ten to eleven win team,
[35:00] Speaker 2: but they just have become a dominant NFL team, especially
[35:04] Speaker 2: with Lamar. It has made the Steelers look a lot worse.
[35:07] Speaker 2: I mean, look, anyone could have had Derrick Henry right.
[35:11] Speaker 2: They got him for eight million dollars. Boom, he goes there,
[35:14] Speaker 2: he runs for whatever, almost two thousand yards and they
[35:16] Speaker 2: give him an extension. It's like no brainer. It's like
[35:19] Speaker 2: shouldn't the Steelers have been all over a guy like that.
[35:21] Speaker 2: I mean, they were kicking Najie Harris to the curb.
[35:23] Speaker 2: And I just think that the Steelers are just kind
[35:25] Speaker 2: of in this weird spot. They're too well run and they,
[35:28] Speaker 2: you know, Mike Tomins is too high level of a guy.
[35:30] Speaker 2: They're never gonna suck like. They're never gonna have a
[35:32] Speaker 2: season where it's like, oh, this is the year they
[35:34] Speaker 2: drafted six This is not gonna happen. But drafting sixteenth
[35:38] Speaker 2: to twentieth every year is not a great place to
[35:41] Speaker 2: be either, because they're doing it basically every year for
[35:44] Speaker 2: what a decade plus. They haven't won a playoff game
[35:47] Speaker 2: since they beat Kansas City in the second round. I
[35:51] Speaker 2: think that was Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and levey On Bell
[35:54] Speaker 2: where they're star offensive players a long time.
[35:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, well, last sixteen years, Ravens, including playoffs, have won
[36:02] Speaker 1: the most games in that division, and that was about
[36:04] Speaker 1: I think Steve Bushatti bought the franchise twenty plus years ago,
[36:09] Speaker 1: but it took him a few years to get it right.
[36:11] Speaker 1: And to your point, they think they copied the Steelers
[36:14] Speaker 1: model a little bit. I mean, in that cold weather
[36:16] Speaker 1: part of the country. There are certain absolutes, like you
[36:19] Speaker 1: have to be able to run the football, you have
[36:21] Speaker 1: to play really good defense, you better have good offensive lines.
[36:24] Speaker 1: You're not going to be throwing the ball down the field.
[36:26] Speaker 1: In fact, I could argue before Za Flowers, I just
[36:28] Speaker 1: I didn't think Baltimore drafted wide receivers particularly well. They
[36:31] Speaker 1: drafted everything else exceptionally well. The Steelers draft wide receivers
[36:35] Speaker 1: exceptionally well, but they've had a lot of misses on
[36:37] Speaker 1: the offensive line and quarterbacks and other spaces. So it
[36:41] Speaker 1: is a weird franchise. Okay, this is just a little bit,
[36:45] Speaker 1: a little bit of schedule talk, and that's good. Enjoy it,
[36:50] Speaker 1: have a good weekend.
[36:51] Speaker 3: Everybody see you.
[36:55] Speaker 1: At the end of the season. There's only one team
[36:57] Speaker 1: that can call themselves NBA champs. Only one player can
[37:00] Speaker 1: call themselves the number one pick in the NFL draft. Well,
[37:02] Speaker 1: there's only one electric SUV worthy of the title, the Ultimate,
[37:06] Speaker 1: the All Electric BMWIX. What I love about the IX
[37:10] Speaker 1: is that it delivers legendary BMW performance. I've had several
[37:14] Speaker 1: while its sleek design exudes innovative style from the inside out.
[37:18] Speaker 1: Not to mention how much space and utility. It provides
[37:22] Speaker 1: over seventy five cubic feet of cargo space. The IX
[37:25] Speaker 1: is completely changing the game with an all electric suv.
[37:29] Speaker 1: The greatest legends of sports never compromise any part of
[37:31] Speaker 1: the game, so why would you settle for anything less
[37:34] Speaker 1: from your suv? After all, there's only one ultimate the BMWIX.
[37:39] Speaker 1: Everything you love about the ultimate driving machine electrified BMW
