Colin is joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” to react to Indiana beating Miami in the National Championship. Colin gives props to Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza & calls him the clear #1 pick in the NFL draft, and argues that Miami proved they were the second best team in the country & deserved to be there (2:00). They agree that Miami has outstanding talent and will be back in the playoff next year (6:00), and Colin argues Curt Cignetti’s coach has Indiana looking like an NFL team (8:45). They predict that a passionate & wealthy IU fanbase will flood the program with money going forward, setting the program up for sustained success (12:30). They break down Fernando Mendoza’s game & project how he’ll fare in the NFL (18:15), discuss why Miami is set up to dominate the ACC in the coming years (26:15), and Colin argues that traditional SEC powers like Alabama and Georgia will fall further behind in the NIL era due to financial constraints (29:00). Finally, they agree that NIL & the influx of money has changed college football… and changed it for the better (32:30). (Timestamps may vary based on advertisements.) [0:01] Speaker 1: The volume. Well, we have a new national champion in
[0:11] Speaker 1: college football, third straight year. It's a Big Ten team.
[0:14] Speaker 1: First it's Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines. Last year it's
[0:16] Speaker 1: Ohio State. Punish people in the playoff, and Miami and
[0:21] Speaker 1: Ohio State both were built to potentially beat Indiana. Neither
[0:25] Speaker 1: could twenty seven to twenty one, third straight Big Ten champion.
[0:29] Speaker 1: I will say I thought it would be a little
[0:32] Speaker 1: like this, a little more scoring than I thought. I
[0:35] Speaker 1: thought it would be the under, but you know, be cheap, cheap,
[0:39] Speaker 1: a little chippy. Early against Mendoza, he got a late
[0:42] Speaker 1: hit and that they didn't call it. A couple of
[0:45] Speaker 1: little late hits, personal fouls not called. And I mean
[0:49] Speaker 1: make Indiana, you know, convert fourth downs and third downs,
[0:54] Speaker 1: and they did. That's what Indiana has been doing all year.
[0:56] Speaker 1: They did it against Iowa, they did it against Penn State,
[0:59] Speaker 1: and did against Ohio State, and they did it against
[1:01] Speaker 1: the Miami Hurricanes. I think Mendoza, I mean, if there
[1:04] Speaker 1: were any critics or doubters that he's the number one pick, John,
[1:07] Speaker 1: I mean, he just that quarterback draw for a touchdown
[1:11] Speaker 1: took up beating Listen. I think you know what I
[1:16] Speaker 1: think it proves is that Miami not only deserve to
[1:19] Speaker 1: be in the College Football Playoff, but Miami was the
[1:21] Speaker 1: second best team. I mean, Ohio State's offense couldn't generate
[1:25] Speaker 1: you know, this kind of offensive explosion. I mean you know,
[1:29] Speaker 1: I mean they were driving to put their fourth touchdown up.
[1:34] Speaker 1: So I mean, I think I think we got the
[1:35] Speaker 1: two best teams in the country. And by the way,
[1:37] Speaker 1: if you're an SEC fan, not only should you be
[1:40] Speaker 1: terrified of the gap that is widening between the Big
[1:43] Speaker 1: Ten and the SEC. Miami has major, major nil money.
[1:50] Speaker 1: Broward County is a just an unbelievable recruiting hotbed, and
[1:55] Speaker 1: Crystal Ball maybe the best recruiter in the country. So
[1:58] Speaker 1: Miami and Indiana. Now Deanna's got Mark Cuban's checkbook, John
[2:02] Speaker 1: John Middlecoff joining us. It just it's those are Miami
[2:07] Speaker 1: and Indiana. John are not going anywhere.
[2:10] Speaker 2: Well, the one thing Mario's gonna do is building the trenches,
[2:13] Speaker 2: and that's gonna translate moving forward. I mean they had
[2:17] Speaker 2: early on in the game, he went, this is gonna
[2:19] Speaker 2: be hard. This felt like an NFL game to me,
[2:22] Speaker 2: Like the stacks like this wasn't gonna be either quarterbacks
[2:25] Speaker 2: not throwing for three hundred yards. It's it's gonna be
[2:28] Speaker 2: about getting big third and fours converted the Mendoza in
[2:32] Speaker 2: that first couple series stretch when he got absolutely destroyed,
[2:39] Speaker 2: multiple free hits on sacks, hitting the face, I thought,
[2:43] Speaker 2: I can imagine Tom Brady up in the box looking
[2:45] Speaker 2: at his GM, going that's the NFL right there. And
[2:47] Speaker 2: he hopped right back up, faced off. And then obviously
[2:50] Speaker 2: he played well throughout, but even Ohio State. Because I
[2:53] Speaker 2: started texting around, you know, Bain is viewed as a
[2:56] Speaker 2: top ten pick, but Messidor he's twenty five, and I
[3:00] Speaker 2: was like, you know, teams and it's like, well, he
[3:02] Speaker 2: might not go in the first round because he's older,
[3:04] Speaker 2: but he ain't gonna last far in the second round.
[3:06] Speaker 2: So they have two guys that were just coming. They're
[3:09] Speaker 2: d line. The other guys are really good. That was
[3:11] Speaker 2: a test for Indiana, the physicality, because one thing Indiana's
[3:14] Speaker 2: had is beside Ohio State, no one could match their physicality.
[3:18] Speaker 2: I'd argue, tell me, if you agree with this, are
[3:21] Speaker 2: they the best team? I'm saying team in college or
[3:26] Speaker 2: pro because they don't really have a weakness. Their defense
[3:28] Speaker 2: is great, their offense is very well round, and their
[3:31] Speaker 2: special teams are fantastic.
[3:33] Speaker 1: I would say Seattle feels the same way as when
[3:35] Speaker 1: you can have great special teams. I think they said
[3:37] Speaker 1: that was the eighth blocked punch by a Signetti team
[3:41] Speaker 1: at Indiana. So like Seattle is rare where they don't
[3:44] Speaker 1: have a whole and they have elite special teams. That's Indiana.
[3:48] Speaker 1: So like that. You don't get that usually at the
[3:50] Speaker 1: college level, even when you have great college programs, you
[3:52] Speaker 1: don't spend any you know, you're not spending nil money
[3:55] Speaker 1: these days on the special teams. I can't remember when
[3:57] Speaker 1: Pete Carroll was at USC they didn't even care about
[4:00] Speaker 1: special teams. They didn't even go for blocks. You know,
[4:02] Speaker 1: they were just going to beat you on their units. Yeah,
[4:05] Speaker 1: O and D and so I think I would say
[4:08] Speaker 1: this about Indiana. They're they were trailing the entire game.
[4:12] Speaker 1: They felt like they were coming from behind. Miami is physically.
[4:16] Speaker 1: The way to beat Indiana is what Ohio State and
[4:20] Speaker 1: Miami have, which is better than average college quarterback, big
[4:23] Speaker 1: time skill players that can you know you don't you
[4:26] Speaker 1: can get over the top Fletcher, the running back Tony
[4:29] Speaker 1: the receiver you can pop for big plays. You're not
[4:31] Speaker 1: going to get thirteen to fifteen play drives in Indiana
[4:34] Speaker 1: and Ohio State and Miami both had that. And then
[4:36] Speaker 1: in tough physical defenses that make Indiana get down to
[4:40] Speaker 1: late third and five and fourth and three because you
[4:43] Speaker 1: can't give many. You can't you can't win against Mendoza
[4:47] Speaker 1: if it's third and one, if it's second and four,
[4:49] Speaker 1: you've got to put him into third and fives, fourth
[4:52] Speaker 1: and fourths. You've got to make them earn it. But
[4:54] Speaker 1: that's what Indiana does. I mean, they're gutsy play calling,
[4:57] Speaker 1: those sideline fade patterns. They're just a really complete college team.
[5:04] Speaker 1: And again, this is what the sixtieth ranked recruiting classes John,
[5:08] Speaker 1: They're going to get top twenty classes now. Now they've
[5:11] Speaker 1: got Cuban's checkbook. So I mean next year, Ohio State's loaded,
[5:16] Speaker 1: Michigan's going to rebound with Witningham, They've got great offensive pieces.
[5:19] Speaker 1: Indiana's going nowhere. Oregon now with Dante Moore's top six program.
[5:24] Speaker 1: USC and Washington are out of the rebuild stage. They
[5:26] Speaker 1: both have their quarterbacks returning and a lot of nil
[5:30] Speaker 1: money and a lot of players Penn State with Matt
[5:34] Speaker 1: Campbell should be at least maybe they'll be somewhere around
[5:36] Speaker 1: the top twenty twenty five. I just think this is
[5:41] Speaker 1: I think the Big Ten now at the top is
[5:43] Speaker 1: the best conference hands down.
[5:45] Speaker 2: Well, and it's a coaching conference. What do you think
[5:47] Speaker 2: about it? Right Saban retires, you add Signetti, who immediately
[5:51] Speaker 2: is just an elite. I mean he's right away. I
[5:54] Speaker 2: mean there's not a better coach right now in the
[5:56] Speaker 2: country than him. I mean, look what he just did,
[5:58] Speaker 2: went through Dan like they were Swiss cheese, and took
[6:02] Speaker 2: on Miami and physically went toe to toe with them
[6:05] Speaker 2: and obviously beat Ryan Day. So he's you got to
[6:08] Speaker 2: give him for them, you know, living in the moment,
[6:10] Speaker 2: the best coach in the country. The money aspect, in
[6:13] Speaker 2: the transfer portal advantage for them. I mean, Signetti, I
[6:17] Speaker 2: was reading, I don't know that much about the transfer portal,
[6:19] Speaker 2: had a great transfer portal, landed a quarterback, like like
[6:22] Speaker 2: they're not only not going away, like they're gonna view
[6:25] Speaker 2: themselves as a playoff team again next year, Like this
[6:28] Speaker 2: is switch, this isn't you know? It used to be
[6:30] Speaker 2: pre recruiting, if a team had a great year basketball
[6:33] Speaker 2: or football. That got kind of a one year wonder. Well,
[6:36] Speaker 2: one year wonders are over. If you have the money,
[6:38] Speaker 2: you just keep it rolling, you keep it flu right.
[6:41] Speaker 2: So and the other advantage he has, like his coordinators
[6:43] Speaker 2: aren't going anywhere, I mean, what do they really hang
[6:45] Speaker 2: their hat on, because beside Mendoza, Miami had way more
[6:49] Speaker 2: prospects in the top one hundred of this upcoming draft
[6:52] Speaker 2: in Indiana. They're the best coach team. And even tonight
[6:55] Speaker 2: you just saw even when their plays didn't hit, one
[6:57] Speaker 2: time one of their wide receivers got held. It was
[6:59] Speaker 2: a perfect route. They find a weakness, like the weakness
[7:01] Speaker 2: of Miami clearly is the secondary, and they found the
[7:04] Speaker 2: weak link on that secondary twenty four and they were
[7:06] Speaker 2: just going after him, and they were going after That's
[7:08] Speaker 2: what NFL coordinators do when they fin a week link.
[7:11] Speaker 2: You've seen it with Benn Johnson with Kyle and in
[7:14] Speaker 2: the attack.
[7:15] Speaker 1: And also Signetti likes older players. I mean, Carson Beck
[7:19] Speaker 1: hasn't been going to class for two years. I think
[7:22] Speaker 1: your initial comments right on the money. This felt a
[7:25] Speaker 1: little bit like an NFL game, I mean college football,
[7:27] Speaker 1: because they pay the players. Now have a transfer portal,
[7:30] Speaker 1: which is free agency and have an NFL style playoff.
[7:33] Speaker 1: The sport feels more like the NFL. Well, Tonight's game,
[7:36] Speaker 1: to me, more than any National Championship game felt professional.
[7:40] Speaker 1: You have two quarterbacks that are going to play on Sundays.
[7:44] Speaker 1: You have twenty three and twenty four year olds playing
[7:46] Speaker 1: in the game. I think the coaching now, I mean
[7:50] Speaker 1: to have a team like Indiana that doesn't make mistakes, John,
[7:54] Speaker 1: that's a professional team. I mean the Rams played no
[7:58] Speaker 1: drop passes, no penalties, and no turn and overs against Chicago.
[8:01] Speaker 1: That's what elite NFL teams did. We've always kind of
[8:04] Speaker 1: built in that our college players make mistakes. Indiana plays
[8:08] Speaker 1: like a pro team, and a lot of that is
[8:10] Speaker 1: they're very, very old. There are a lot of twenty
[8:14] Speaker 1: three year olds, and so you know, college basketball is great,
[8:17] Speaker 1: but a lot of these college basketball teams these are
[8:19] Speaker 1: one and done guys. Right, they're like nineteen year old kids.
[8:22] Speaker 1: Well with somebody, now you have a child four days old?
[8:27] Speaker 1: Who should note, John Middlecoff, I've had six kids in
[8:31] Speaker 1: my life. The gap between like nineteen and twenty three,
[8:36] Speaker 1: it's the Grand Canyon, Like it's a different, especially with boys,
[8:39] Speaker 1: it's a different human being. The brain's developing. So Indiana's
[8:42] Speaker 1: got twenty three year old guys on the team, so
[8:45] Speaker 1: they're just they just don't come at mistakes. Even that
[8:47] Speaker 1: bang bang late, that that personal foul on the hit
[8:52] Speaker 1: on Beck, even in slow motion, it was bang bang
[8:56] Speaker 1: in fast motion. I'm like, that's not a penalty. That's
[8:58] Speaker 1: you're given one. I mean, if you're I'm not going
[9:00] Speaker 1: to call the ones against Miami early. That's a weak
[9:02] Speaker 1: one to call it against the Hoosiers late. So my
[9:05] Speaker 1: point is the game I thought really looked almost seventy
[9:08] Speaker 1: percent professional.
[9:10] Speaker 2: I was thinking about this. You know, historically you thought
[9:13] Speaker 2: basketball school, football school. Right, if you went to UCLA
[9:16] Speaker 2: or Indiana or North Carolina, it was basketball based. And
[9:19] Speaker 2: if you met someone that went to Texas or Ohio
[9:22] Speaker 2: State or Michigan, like it was a football school. I've
[9:25] Speaker 2: seen a lot of people. I live in Scottsdale, and
[9:26] Speaker 2: obviously we get a lot of older people that retire here,
[9:29] Speaker 2: and I see people at the gym wearing their Indiana shirts.
[9:31] Speaker 2: Over the last probably ten months everywhere you mean to me,
[9:34] Speaker 2: talked they love football, Well, who are they? They went
[9:37] Speaker 2: to Indiana, They're Bears fans, they're Packers fans, they're Minta.
[9:40] Speaker 2: But they went to a school that football not only
[9:42] Speaker 2: didn't matter, is the worst program in the history. Well,
[9:45] Speaker 2: these people will not only will support like they have
[9:47] Speaker 2: always been football people, Like this is not UCLA where
[9:51] Speaker 2: it's like even if they resurrected their fan base. These
[9:53] Speaker 2: Indiana people, I would imagine they have the biggest alumni base.
[9:57] Speaker 2: What percentage of those, especially men are Bears and Packer
[9:59] Speaker 2: fans numbers probably pretty high right from that region of
[10:02] Speaker 2: the country. So it's not like they're not passionate about
[10:05] Speaker 2: this sport. And you felt it tonight with Miami on
[10:07] Speaker 2: the field the crowd, So not only it's not just
[10:10] Speaker 2: the numbers that they have. All these fans, people that
[10:12] Speaker 2: go to Michigan Ohio State love football like that's part
[10:15] Speaker 2: of the power, right these Indiana fans, You've awoken it
[10:18] Speaker 2: overnight like that, and they are going to be treated
[10:21] Speaker 2: the program with the passion and the support immediately like
[10:25] Speaker 2: these other top Penn State, Michigan Ohio State immediately like overnight,
[10:30] Speaker 2: and they have the base like it's not like they
[10:32] Speaker 2: don't have to fake it. That's where I think that's scary.
[10:34] Speaker 2: If you're in the Big Ten, you're like this program
[10:36] Speaker 2: with this coach. You see him say, like earlier this week,
[10:39] Speaker 2: he's like, I'm not an NFL guy. He's not even
[10:41] Speaker 2: he's not even doing the Marcus Freeman like, you know,
[10:44] Speaker 2: teasing you. He's like, I'm here.
[10:46] Speaker 1: Well. Also, Indiana is known as a business school, So
[10:51] Speaker 1: people leave Indiana. The jobs are not in Indiana, and
[10:54] Speaker 1: they go to Chicago, and they go to Dallas, and
[10:57] Speaker 1: they go to Phoenix, and they go to Minneapolis, and
[11:00] Speaker 1: they've got money. I mean, they're in Chicago where I'm at.
[11:04] Speaker 1: And again now because Indiana is good, there are Indiana
[11:07] Speaker 1: flags everywhere. There are indi I mean I see it
[11:10] Speaker 1: all over Chicago this weekend and now over the past month.
[11:14] Speaker 1: There's Indiana gear everywhere in Chicago. So this is a
[11:19] Speaker 1: Big ten town obviously, but this has always been a
[11:22] Speaker 1: school known for excellent business school. Graduates make a lot
[11:26] Speaker 1: of money, and they leave the state of Indiana because
[11:27] Speaker 1: that's not where the jobs are. Most Big ten kids
[11:30] Speaker 1: they go to Chicago if they want to stay in
[11:32] Speaker 1: the region, or they go to New York or Los
[11:33] Speaker 1: Angeles or the Bay if that's where the Big ten
[11:35] Speaker 1: kids go or they go to warm weather in the South,
[11:38] Speaker 1: SEC kids mostly primarily stay kind of in Atlanta, Dallas Footprint.
[11:44] Speaker 1: Some go West, but not that many. So these Indiana
[11:47] Speaker 1: kids are all over the country and they're going to
[11:49] Speaker 1: go everywhere for their football program. I mean, you saw
[11:51] Speaker 1: the crowd tonight with seventy five percent games in Miami.
[11:53] Speaker 1: It was seventy five US fans. It was that while So,
[11:57] Speaker 1: I mean the other thing I thought about watching Mendoza,
[12:00] Speaker 1: So think about this weekend, probably the pass of the
[12:04] Speaker 1: year in the NFL. Number one pick, Caleb Williams, Fernando Mendoza. Tonight,
[12:10] Speaker 1: Carson Beck had a really good second half. But Fernando
[12:13] Speaker 1: Mendoza is simply different than every other college quarterback. There's
[12:16] Speaker 1: a gap between him and Dante Moore and Arch Manning
[12:20] Speaker 1: is substantial, Julian saying substantial. Matt Stafford fourth quarter in overtime,
[12:28] Speaker 1: number one pick. These number one picks, when they're really
[12:32] Speaker 1: the real deal, Stafford, Caleb, Mendoza, John They're different. There's
[12:37] Speaker 1: a difference between a first round quarterback and a number
[12:40] Speaker 1: one pick. And when I watch Mendoza just the size,
[12:44] Speaker 1: I mean, he had a bloody lip from that cheap
[12:46] Speaker 1: shot early. The size, the toughness, the accuracy. Again we
[12:52] Speaker 1: see this. He moves. He moves a lot better than
[12:55] Speaker 1: people think. He doesn't move as well as say Andrew Look,
[12:58] Speaker 1: but he moves better than a golf for a CJ. Stroud,
[13:01] Speaker 1: I think he's closer to a little bit of a
[13:03] Speaker 1: Justin Herbert move than he is a Jared Goff. He's
[13:06] Speaker 1: a big, strong kid, obviously committed, humble, there's a humility.
[13:12] Speaker 1: I don't know you're a former pro scout. He looks
[13:14] Speaker 1: like to me. Now again, I don't think he has
[13:17] Speaker 1: the horsepower of Caleber Josh Allen, but to me, he
[13:20] Speaker 1: feels like a high end franchise quarterback. Does he not?
[13:24] Speaker 2: Well, let's remove you know, Caleb's skill set is beside.
[13:28] Speaker 2: I mean, he's on a short list of physical tools
[13:31] Speaker 2: coming out of college. But if you just look at
[13:33] Speaker 2: the NFL, let's just pick two guys who have been
[13:35] Speaker 2: Pro bowlers and when their team is well run, they
[13:39] Speaker 2: go to the playoffs consistently, Jared Goff and Dak Prescott.
[13:43] Speaker 2: When it's all said and done, what are those two
[13:45] Speaker 2: going to combine to make eight hundred million dollars?
[13:47] Speaker 1: You know?
[13:47] Speaker 2: Playing in the league and combined for probably ten total
[13:50] Speaker 2: Pro Bowls. I mean, they've been really good players for
[13:53] Speaker 2: a long time. And if those guys can play at
[13:56] Speaker 2: a high level. And obviously Dak was a later pick,
[13:59] Speaker 2: but you know, it doesn't once you get in the NFL.
[14:01] Speaker 2: Like if you could redo it, Dad, that would have
[14:03] Speaker 2: gone one or two. Right, right, it's Fernando Mendoza can
[14:07] Speaker 2: and to me the GoF comparison. You know, his touch passes,
[14:12] Speaker 2: and there was a play early in the game that
[14:14] Speaker 2: Herbsrey gave him credit. He looked left, wasn't there? Their
[14:17] Speaker 2: pass rush is coming ninety miles an hour. It's like
[14:20] Speaker 2: will and Anderson and daneil Hunter relative to college speed
[14:24] Speaker 2: coming off the edge, He's boom checked down out of
[14:27] Speaker 2: his hands. And I was thinking, listen, I mean, he's
[14:31] Speaker 2: been playing at a pretty high level for a while.
[14:32] Speaker 2: But you get there, you're warming up. You know, the
[14:34] Speaker 2: Raiders have the number one pick. It'd be one thing
[14:36] Speaker 2: if it's Mark Davis and Spytek over there. It's another
[14:39] Speaker 2: thing when Tom Brady standing next to him, right, and that,
[14:42] Speaker 2: and for all these players, I mean, don't think for
[14:44] Speaker 2: a second. Every player on that warm ups Miami and
[14:47] Speaker 2: Indiana included. Didn't look at Tom Brady standing right there.
[14:50] Speaker 2: So it adds next for juice, and then you do
[14:54] Speaker 2: you play the way he played to me the determining
[14:57] Speaker 2: factor for quarterback. You don't need to have Caleb's arm,
[15:01] Speaker 2: you don't need to have Lamar's ability, but you do
[15:03] Speaker 2: need to be really mentally tough and you're gonna get
[15:06] Speaker 2: hit really really hard. And he popped up a couple times.
[15:08] Speaker 2: He got hit like an NFL player, and he hoped
[15:10] Speaker 2: and he's been doing it all. See goes back to
[15:12] Speaker 2: that Ohio State game. I was all in the moment
[15:15] Speaker 2: the Ohio State happened the first play of the game.
[15:17] Speaker 2: A play later, he's back on and the way he
[15:19] Speaker 2: played in that game because Ohio State and Miami that's playing.
[15:23] Speaker 2: I mean, we see some of these NFL defenses relative
[15:25] Speaker 2: to you know, the competition is way worse than what
[15:28] Speaker 2: he just saw over the course of the Miami and
[15:31] Speaker 2: Ohio State games. So it is you're not throwing for
[15:35] Speaker 2: four hundred yards in every This isn't the Big twelve.
[15:37] Speaker 2: You know. Sam Darnold just won a game forty one
[15:40] Speaker 2: to six through eighteen times like the NFL is much
[15:43] Speaker 2: more about making right decisions. CJ. Stroud fell apart because
[15:46] Speaker 2: he played dumb, like you can't put the ball in
[15:49] Speaker 2: harm's way like that. So a huge part of quarterback
[15:53] Speaker 2: to really turn it around. Like Jared Goff and Dak
[15:54] Speaker 2: once they started playing well, it's like, don't turn the
[15:56] Speaker 2: ball over. Play When they get bad, it's like they're
[15:58] Speaker 2: trying to force it too much. Yeah, so he gets
[16:01] Speaker 2: the NFL his skill set one hundred. I actually think
[16:03] Speaker 2: the pressure is now on the Raiders, like he is
[16:05] Speaker 2: more than good enough if you build it right to
[16:07] Speaker 2: turn around your franchise. Again, Jared Goff and Dak Prescott
[16:10] Speaker 2: have and Kirk Cousins, they have proven that they can
[16:13] Speaker 2: be level guys that can take you. It's on you
[16:15] Speaker 2: then to build the team. Because he's not at the
[16:18] Speaker 2: NFL level good enough to just do it by himself, right,
[16:21] Speaker 2: I mean, Caleb has some of that to him. He
[16:23] Speaker 2: can just do stuff by himself that no one else
[16:25] Speaker 2: really can do. He's not that, but he's definitely really
[16:28] Speaker 2: damn good. I've been floored I think the last four games,
[16:32] Speaker 2: which I bet the most of the NFL. I mean,
[16:34] Speaker 2: he's a one hundred percent lock to be the number
[16:36] Speaker 2: one overall pick. Unless a catastrophic injury happens training, he's
[16:39] Speaker 2: the number one pick.
[16:40] Speaker 1: In the draft. I mean, listen, I saw him against Iowa.
[16:42] Speaker 1: I saw him against the Ohio State and Miami and
[16:46] Speaker 1: Penn State. Come. You know in that wild second half,
[16:50] Speaker 1: is that you know Indiana had some bumps. He wanted outson. Yeah,
[16:55] Speaker 1: I just I just think he has all the traits.
[16:56] Speaker 1: I always say, to be a great quarterback, you have
[16:59] Speaker 1: to have one great trade. His size is great. He's
[17:02] Speaker 1: a six' five and he's. Big he's a big six'. Five,
[17:05] Speaker 1: KID secondly i think he has really really. Nice touch
[17:08] Speaker 1: he's a very accurate with very very. Nice TOUCH and
[17:11] Speaker 1: i think theater trade and this is a. Real trade.
[17:13] Speaker 1: He's tough that kid can. TAKE pops i mean his
[17:16] Speaker 1: bloody lip early in. The game signette was ticked off
[17:19] Speaker 1: at halftime and it probably had a right. To BE
[17:22] Speaker 1: but I think i Will Give Mario crystal. Ball credit
[17:24] Speaker 1: he always had A Reputation john he was a recruiter
[17:27] Speaker 1: and he was an okay game planner and. GAME coach
[17:29] Speaker 1: i thought his in game coaching was. VERY strong i
[17:32] Speaker 1: thought you could have after that. Block punt that thing
[17:35] Speaker 1: could have. BEEN over i think he built a really,
[17:37] Speaker 1: good STAFF and, I, thought miami, you know a good
[17:41] Speaker 1: sign Of coaching john is two things is improving over
[17:46] Speaker 1: the course of. A season, i Mean They carson beck
[17:48] Speaker 1: threw four Picks. Against louisville they. Were awful they were
[17:50] Speaker 1: a totally different team three. Months, LATER secondly i thought
[17:54] Speaker 1: he's in. Game, Coaching listen miami. Makes mistakes they're not a.
[17:57] Speaker 1: Flawless team they're Younger, Than indiana they're they're more Athletic.
[18:00] Speaker 1: Than indiana and, you know YOU and i have talked.
[18:02] Speaker 1: About this This the miami culture is a, little attitude,
[18:06] Speaker 1: chest out. Little peacock we're going. To play, you know
[18:10] Speaker 1: if they were, a comic they'd go after hecklers like
[18:13] Speaker 1: this Is how miami's culture, is built which is we're
[18:16] Speaker 1: going to play with a. Little attitude we're not going
[18:18] Speaker 1: to be. Buttoned up We're, Not indiana We're not that's.
[18:21] Speaker 1: Their STYLE so i don't Look at miami, and, think
[18:24] Speaker 1: oh they had. More penalties that's who. They are they're
[18:27] Speaker 1: going to hit just a little after. The WHISTLE so, i,
[18:30] Speaker 1: Thought overall miami. Played Well, carson beck, you know he
[18:33] Speaker 1: didn't do much offensively in the, first half, But listen
[18:36] Speaker 1: miami played well enough to win a. National championship that
[18:38] Speaker 1: block punt is. Probably something you can't have a block
[18:42] Speaker 1: punt for a Touchdown against indiana and beat a team.
[18:45] Speaker 1: Like that you just. You CAN'T and i think that in,
[18:47] Speaker 1: the end that's. YOUR difference i.
[18:49] Speaker 2: Think the next step for them because there are going
[18:52] Speaker 2: to recruit the best dan. Offensive lineman mario is going
[18:55] Speaker 2: to do that At A saban kirby. Smart level, to me,
[18:58] Speaker 2: you know there was a big difference last year when
[19:00] Speaker 2: They had carson Or cam ward and their offense was,
[19:03] Speaker 2: super electric and, This year carson's not that level. Of
[19:06] Speaker 2: Talent right he'll be drafted on the third day of,
[19:09] Speaker 2: the draft which you HAVE an nfl quarterback on, your
[19:12] Speaker 2: team you're going to. Be solid but if they can
[19:14] Speaker 2: nail a first round pick to be their quarterback because
[19:17] Speaker 2: They got tony who's eighteen, years old they will recruit,
[19:20] Speaker 2: running backs they will have a great. Offensive line they
[19:23] Speaker 2: should be the toast OF. THE acc, I mean clemson's
[19:25] Speaker 2: falling off. A cliff I mean belichick's claiming that his
[19:28] Speaker 2: recruiting class is going to. Help them i'd short. That
[19:30] Speaker 2: Program florida state's got a lot. Of problems the one
[19:33] Speaker 2: thing you would Say about mark they got no excuse
[19:35] Speaker 2: to not dominate. That conference and then you put yourselves
[19:38] Speaker 2: in a, position WHERE like i bet the goal, this
[19:40] Speaker 2: offseason we want to get one of the top. Four
[19:42] Speaker 2: seats it makes your path a little. BIT easier i
[19:45] Speaker 2: mean their path right on the Road TO texas a
[19:48] Speaker 2: And M. Ohio state it was just because you play that,
[19:51] Speaker 2: first game especially if you are playing another top you
[19:55] Speaker 2: know's gonna play another really. Good team if you're not
[19:57] Speaker 2: drawing the non, power four you know pro it's hard
[20:01] Speaker 2: and that you know they were still they still had
[20:03] Speaker 2: a lot, of juice it, felt like but they had had.
[20:05] Speaker 2: SOME injuries i. Was impressed I'm the MIAMI dishear i
[20:09] Speaker 2: thought was really. Really Respectable. For mario get gets made
[20:13] Speaker 2: fun of. A lot i think in football Circles and
[20:15] Speaker 2: twitter and people that just follow. The sport he's brought
[20:18] Speaker 2: some of that. ON himself i think this year you
[20:20] Speaker 2: got to shut up a little bit if you're one
[20:21] Speaker 2: of those people and just tip your hat to.
[20:23] Speaker 1: The guy today's show brought to you by presenting Sponsor

[21:38] Speaker 1: Illinois Indima, New, Jersey, ohio Tennessee or virginia. To play
[21:41] Speaker 1: terms and. Conditions apply concerned about Gambling, in florida call
[21:44] Speaker 1: one eighty. And eight admit It. In indiana if you
[21:46] Speaker 1: are somebody you know as a problem, wants help call
[21:48] Speaker 1: one eight hundred and nine. With it gambling problem called
[21:50] Speaker 1: one Eight Hundred, Gambler, Arizona, Colorado Illinois, New, Jersey, Ohio.
[21:54] Speaker 1: Tennessee virginia in, GAME coaching i thought they could have
[22:03] Speaker 1: they when they were down ten to nothing. AT half
[22:04] Speaker 1: i mean they ended up losing twenty seven to, twenty
[22:07] Speaker 1: one and they. Were DRIVING so I thought miami. Played
[22:11] Speaker 1: well they, were physical they, were tough and they looked.
[22:14] Speaker 1: Well coached, TO me i have no problem with. That,
[22:16] Speaker 1: Effort listen indiana humiliated teams. THIS year i mean beat
[22:20] Speaker 1: the breaks. Off teams the two teams that gave them
[22:24] Speaker 1: Trouble with Indiana. And miami AND if i had to
[22:26] Speaker 1: TAKE if i had to vote the final rankings of,
[22:29] Speaker 1: THE year i Would put, Indiana one I'd put miami
[22:32] Speaker 1: To and I'd Put ohio. State three and, You, know
[22:35] Speaker 1: india those are the three BEST teams i saw. This
[22:37] Speaker 1: year So and i'll go back. To this Georgia and
[22:41] Speaker 1: alabama are not. The same they don't have. The Finances
[22:44] Speaker 1: josh pate came on my podcast about a week ago,
[22:47] Speaker 1: and said listen To The atlanta money's never been like
[22:50] Speaker 1: in the Pocket of. Georgia Football notre dame's got, big money.
[22:54] Speaker 1: Huge endowment and let's be Honest. About marcus he's a
[22:58] Speaker 1: top two or three recruiter in. The cunty there's, No Question,
[23:01] Speaker 1: chrystal ball hughge. Innil Money south florida is a recruiting
[23:05] Speaker 1: Hotbed and mario may be the best recruiter period in. The,
[23:09] Speaker 1: Country Signetti ryan day Here comes oregon year. After year,
[23:16] Speaker 1: You Know. KYLE whittingham, i, think listen ten, YEARS ago
[23:20] Speaker 1: i don't know if the sixty six year old. Would work. It's,
[23:23] Speaker 1: Administrative now Indiana's got michigan's got. Big money they'll. Buy
[23:26] Speaker 1: players so if you wake up this morning and YOU'RE an,
[23:30] Speaker 1: sec fan like You Got, notre dame You, got miami
[23:33] Speaker 1: you got, you know you Got the, big ten it's
[23:36] Speaker 1: a scary time. FOR them i mean this Idea That,
[23:39] Speaker 1: lane kiffin you just put down some, NATIONAL titles i don't.
[23:42] Speaker 1: BUY it I think texas next year is a team in,
[23:44] Speaker 1: that CONFERENCE and i think they may be the best
[23:46] Speaker 1: team in. That conference buy. A, gap.
[23:48] Speaker 2: Well when YOU, say sec who do You, Think GEORGIA Bama. Lsu,
[23:53] Speaker 2: florida well who are going to be the BEST two
[23:55] Speaker 2: sec teams? Moving forward It's two. Texas teams they got all.
[23:58] Speaker 2: THE money, i mean. IT'S sark i read the. Other
[24:01] Speaker 2: day they're gonna have a forty million, dollars roster which
[24:04] Speaker 2: is probably by a pretty, sizable gap the number one
[24:08] Speaker 2: team in the country in terms of. Roster money so
[24:10] Speaker 2: there's gonna be a lot of individual pressure on them.
[24:12] Speaker 2: To win we when you have that, much talent it's
[24:15] Speaker 2: gonna be pretty difficult probably to not go ten to,
[24:17] Speaker 2: two right so, as long Especially if arch improves. Just
[24:21] Speaker 2: incrementally SO in A and m is clearly not. Going
[24:25] Speaker 2: anywhere they have a. Huge Checkbook It's. Texas tech they're
[24:28] Speaker 2: great event they're gonna pass some OF these. Sec teams
[24:31] Speaker 2: it's not about history doesn't.
[24:32] Speaker 1: Matter anymore it.
[24:33] Speaker 2: Just doesn't no one gives a Shit That nick saban
[24:36] Speaker 2: won the national Championship for florida.
[24:38] Speaker 1: And Eight texas tech just went And bought cincinnati's QUARTERBACK
[24:42] Speaker 1: who I thought i talked to people was a draftoble quarterback.
[24:45] Speaker 1: This year he'll be a first round pick. Next year
[24:48] Speaker 1: he was a mid early. Second round sworersby was. His
[24:52] Speaker 1: name he Was. At Cincinnati texas tech went and. Bought
[24:54] Speaker 1: HIM so i did something a, week ago two, weeks
[24:56] Speaker 1: ago on, MY show, i said, top ten next ten
[25:00] Speaker 1: if you consider Nil, and portal top, ten programs. NEXT
[25:03] Speaker 1: ten I put TEXAS, And m Texas And texas tech all.
[25:06] Speaker 1: In it, i'm sorry it's oil money That the texas economy.
[25:09] Speaker 1: Is big it's. Getting bigger You got california companies and
[25:12] Speaker 1: billionaires Moving. To texas it's going. Nowhere fast, SO listen i.
[25:16] Speaker 2: GOT one i got one, For. YOU colin i saw
[25:18] Speaker 2: this TWEET and i. LIKED it i just pulled. IT up,
[25:20] Speaker 2: i said THIS person i think must cover. COLLEGE football,
[25:24] Speaker 2: i said more proof HOW the nil landscape has. Shifted
[25:27] Speaker 2: things there are only forty two early entrants into this
[25:31] Speaker 2: upcoming draft in. Twenty six go back four years in twenty,
[25:35] Speaker 2: twenty one that number was three x at one hundred.
[25:38] Speaker 2: And thirty the ability for college to pay players has
[25:40] Speaker 2: made it a lot more attractive. To, stay well what
[25:42] Speaker 2: do you tell who is that benefiting? The most the
[25:45] Speaker 2: teams with all, the, Money right so when you see
[25:47] Speaker 2: these kids that used, to go where are they gravitating
[25:51] Speaker 2: to whoever's giving them the? Most money this is a.
[25:53] Speaker 2: Bit tint it's just a transactional. Sport NOW and i
[25:56] Speaker 2: AM not. SEC hater i LOVE. The sec they've had
[25:59] Speaker 2: ALL the nfl talent And with Saban, and kirby been
[26:02] Speaker 2: the most. Dominant program but this thing is dramatically. Shifted
[26:05] Speaker 2: overnight at. AT numbers, i mean you hear it as
[26:08] Speaker 2: MUCH as. I do. The Numbers sometimes i'll be talking
[26:11] Speaker 2: to somebody like a successful Human and i'll, be, like
[26:14] Speaker 2: yeah this kid. GOT paid i heard like one point
[26:15] Speaker 2: two million dollars and he'll he won't. Even believe, he's like,
[26:18] Speaker 2: No WAY like i DON'T even i don't even believe
[26:20] Speaker 2: THE stuff i read on. The internet, I'm like i'm,
[26:22] Speaker 2: telling you this is the amount of money these guys are.
[26:24] Speaker 2: Getting paid it. Is insane but it's not because this
[26:27] Speaker 2: is what's really.
[26:28] Speaker 1: GOING on i have a Friend In, Manhattan. Beach california
[26:32] Speaker 1: he is a nil agent and he is there is
[26:38] Speaker 1: a wide receiver AT an, acc school, good player and
[26:45] Speaker 1: he's coming down to, two Schools both big ten a
[26:48] Speaker 1: million and. A half one of the schools already has two.
[26:51] Speaker 1: Elite receivers he'll be a third a million and, a
[26:53] Speaker 1: half and it's it's it is a one of these
[26:56] Speaker 1: and it's a Blue blood big ten college program that has.
[27:01] Speaker 1: TWO receivers. I love so it's just a different ball game.
[27:04] Speaker 1: The bidding, you Know These notre Dames and michigan's have
[27:07] Speaker 1: top ten national. Endowment numbers they have billions of dollars
[27:11] Speaker 1: they're drawing interest on that daily that the market's been
[27:15] Speaker 1: up for, you know look where the stars. Markets at
[27:18] Speaker 1: these endowments are growing. Like crazy do.
[27:22] Speaker 2: You think it's, Sustainable Though because it's one Thing if
[27:25] Speaker 2: i'm a rich GUY and I give signetty five million
[27:28] Speaker 2: dollars on a, You know dillingham begged for, twenty million
[27:32] Speaker 2: and People that my wife, Was, like ah. That's crazy
[27:34] Speaker 2: he's just asking for next. Year's roster this isn't for
[27:37] Speaker 2: the next. Ten years But if i'm giving to some of,
[27:39] Speaker 2: these programs only a couple can have really. Successful, years
[27:42] Speaker 2: Eventually if i'm, a giver EVEN if i have, huge
[27:45] Speaker 2: money what if you don't win for a couple. Of
[27:47] Speaker 2: YEARS am i going to keep funneling the money at
[27:50] Speaker 2: the rates in which or the or the numbers in
[27:52] Speaker 2: which THAT'S where I think. I will and it's going
[27:55] Speaker 2: to be easy for them to get donations. Right now
[27:57] Speaker 2: but some of these penn states like you better show
[27:59] Speaker 2: me in a couple of years or the money could.
[28:00] Speaker 1: Dry, up well what is Happening? In america the elite
[28:05] Speaker 1: one percent. Have Separated the dow is almost at. Fifty thousand,
[28:10] Speaker 1: so again what would put college football in the crosshairs.
[28:14] Speaker 1: Of trouble it's just like our. National debt you know
[28:18] Speaker 1: why our national debt we talk about it, a lot
[28:21] Speaker 1: but we're not in danger because our economy. Keeps growing
[28:25] Speaker 1: so as our, economy grow that's the Only way elon.
[28:28] Speaker 1: Must know elon must talks about. This regularly the debt
[28:31] Speaker 1: becomes less relevant if your. Economy grows the debt's a
[28:33] Speaker 1: bigger Problem in europe because their economy is not growing
[28:36] Speaker 1: at the Pace. Of americas according to all. The, economists
[28:38] Speaker 1: well it's the same in. The nil it's very easy
[28:41] Speaker 1: for a guy to rationalize a six million dollar check
[28:44] Speaker 1: to his local university if things are hummon in. The
[28:47] Speaker 1: economy so if the, economy crashed THAT'S what i think
[28:50] Speaker 1: when college football people, Would, Say okay i'm not we're
[28:53] Speaker 1: taking two. Years off i'm not writing you twenty four
[28:56] Speaker 1: million dollars. In checks so even, for billionaires a lot
[28:59] Speaker 1: of it is what's the current state of. The economy
[29:01] Speaker 1: so for the rich, right now not, middle class not,
[29:03] Speaker 1: normal people but for, the rich. They've separated things, are
[29:06] Speaker 1: good things. Are hot and that's about as deep into
[29:11] Speaker 1: the Economy as John and i'll, ever GO because i
[29:13] Speaker 1: certainly don't Know what i'm, talking ABOUT but i think
[29:16] Speaker 1: a big picture and all this stuff that.
[29:18] Speaker 2: IS true, i mean it's just those guys are. More
[29:21] Speaker 2: willing they've never had more money and as a key
[29:24] Speaker 2: ripping giving. These checks but if it, does flip and
[29:27] Speaker 2: what's the first thing to go the, second home the country.
[29:29] Speaker 2: Club membership that's where. This time this is fun of money,
[29:32] Speaker 2: right now and if you're, doing well it's. PROBABLY flowing I,
[29:35] Speaker 2: mean indiana the amount of booster money they are going
[29:37] Speaker 2: to get in the next six months is going to.
[29:39] Speaker 1: Be, historic well and here's the other thing baseball talks.
[29:43] Speaker 1: About this this IS why i, keep saying you can
[29:46] Speaker 1: tell me college football is. In trouble the ratings for
[29:48] Speaker 1: tonight's game are going to. BE massive Espn and fox
[29:52] Speaker 1: have great college. Football deals they're making a lot of money.
[29:54] Speaker 1: On it the attendance has. Been great remember there was
[29:57] Speaker 1: a decline in ratings and Attendance during alabama dynasty at
[30:01] Speaker 1: the end the last. Five years that was. The problem
[30:03] Speaker 1: the sport became. Incredibly regional well it's. Not regional the
[30:07] Speaker 1: country Was watching Miami, in Indiana so, indiana boom. HUGE
[30:12] Speaker 1: fans sec fans were obviously Watching Because big, ten's There.
[30:15] Speaker 1: Villain miami you've GOT the. Acc WATCHING and I Think west,
[30:19] Speaker 1: Coast people i've said this is growing up On The,
[30:21] Speaker 1: west coast you Always Watched big ten football because they
[30:23] Speaker 1: were In The. Rose Bowl so i've always Been A big,
[30:25] Speaker 1: ten fan EVEN if i Was a husky Or a
[30:27] Speaker 1: duck Or, A trojan i was always A big i
[30:29] Speaker 1: watched everybody In The. Big TEN but i LOVE the sec.
[30:32] Speaker 2: AS well i don't know they started WATCHING the Sec

[32:29] Speaker 1: we'll all. Be Viable The pittsburgh pirates weren't winning twenty five.
[32:33] Speaker 1: Years ago they're not. Winning now. Nobody Cares so usually
[32:37] Speaker 1: when you have these big changes and it feels like there's, A,
[32:40] Speaker 1: separation john there's a separation. In everything, You know tesla's
[32:45] Speaker 1: separated from, you know some. Automotive company there's a big separation,
[32:50] Speaker 1: in banking in. College football if you look at the country,
[32:53] Speaker 1: RIGHT now i was looking at baseball salary gaps. In
[32:55] Speaker 1: Baseball saint louis right now is a. Tiny market they've
[32:59] Speaker 1: lost fifty fortune five hundred companies in the last, you know.
[33:02] Speaker 1: Thirty Years saint louis might as well have, you know
[33:05] Speaker 1: they're a little. Small fry they weren't thirty. Years ago
[33:08] Speaker 1: that's the Reality. Of america, the coasts, You, Know, florida
[33:12] Speaker 1: miami by, the way has become a. Tech center miami's
[33:15] Speaker 1: got a lot of money. Right now part of It
[33:16] Speaker 1: is miami's economy now is a big. Boy economy it
[33:19] Speaker 1: wasn't thirty, years ago it wasn't twenty. Years ago it.
[33:22] Speaker 1: Is NOW so i don't worry about. THE sport i
[33:24] Speaker 1: don't worry. ABOUT baseball i don't worry about. College football
[33:29] Speaker 1: look at, the ratings look at, the attendance look at,
[33:32] Speaker 1: the relevance look at. The revenue college football's. ON fire
[33:36] Speaker 1: i don't remember in the last twenty years caring more about.
[33:39] Speaker 1: College football EVERY time i turn a Game on john
[33:42] Speaker 1: it's LIKE the nfl and watching. This weekend the. Weather's
[33:44] Speaker 1: horrible you can't find a seat in any of. These
[33:47] Speaker 1: games there's not a seat available in any of. These
[33:50] Speaker 1: games when they show these panoramic views.
[33:53] Speaker 2: Of, the stadium they did get lucky That the bears And,
[33:57] Speaker 2: the Patriots the eagles, Have this seattle has this are
[34:01] Speaker 2: collegiate like atmospheres and collegiate like, fan bases and there
[34:05] Speaker 2: are some of the rare fan bases that does have
[34:07] Speaker 2: a pageantry a little bit like some of THESE college, i,
[34:10] Speaker 2: mean Yeah, the bears that. Was FUN and i THINK,
[34:14] Speaker 2: The nfl i'm. With you you turn on it's we
[34:16] Speaker 2: talked about the last. Seven Degrees the patriot game shirt didn't.
[34:19] Speaker 2: Look warm there ain't. A seat you couldn't even. Get
[34:23] Speaker 2: one if you, tried one they'd beat. You up two
[34:25] Speaker 2: it does not. Even AVAILABLE and, i mean look at
[34:28] Speaker 2: the gadding. PRICES tonight i mean the vibe, these games
[34:31] Speaker 2: they feel like a really. Big deal it's a little
[34:33] Speaker 2: foam mo action to the. Sport, people well and one
[34:36] Speaker 2: thing football really benefits from is the the inventories just
[34:40] Speaker 2: a lot smaller than these. OTHER sports, i mean if
[34:41] Speaker 2: you don't WATCH an, nba game you talked about sports for.
[34:44] Speaker 2: A living if you miss a couple, of weeks like
[34:45] Speaker 2: you ain't missing anything, right now you're. Just not but,
[34:48] Speaker 2: in football every game kind. Of matters in, the playoffs
[34:52] Speaker 2: they're not. A series i remember a couple of years
[34:54] Speaker 2: Ago the Warriors played memphis in the. Second round they
[34:56] Speaker 2: lost a game by fifty points in a, playoff series
[34:58] Speaker 2: it didn't. EVEN matter, i mean, game later, they win
[35:00] Speaker 2: they're off to the. Next round and football every same.
[35:03] Speaker 2: With tonight every, snap matters every. DRIVE matters, i mean
[35:06] Speaker 2: Look At josh allen's. And tears he knows like it
[35:09] Speaker 2: felt like he's like his career's over something after losing
[35:12] Speaker 2: the divisional round. Playoff game there is just an intensity
[35:15] Speaker 2: to FOOTBALL that. I listen it's not proud to, say
[35:19] Speaker 2: this but the amount of time we spend on, our
[35:21] Speaker 2: phone the way we're wired now and the urgency. To
[35:23] Speaker 2: everything football just benefits from that immediately to the way
[35:26] Speaker 2: society is kind. Of built, you know we're not a
[35:30] Speaker 2: patient place at. All anymore and IN the nfl is not.
[35:32] Speaker 2: PATIENT either, i, mean look what are their ten, job
[35:34] Speaker 2: openings you know IN. The nfl look at college football,
[35:37] Speaker 2: this year four or five, games in you, Weren't Winning,
[35:40] Speaker 2: Brian Kelly. James franklin there's just so, much money and fans,
[35:44] Speaker 2: like that, like urgency let's go, next guy even IF it's,
[35:47] Speaker 2: i mean we'll find out. THE bills, i mean if
[35:49] Speaker 2: it's going to, work out who they're. Gonna HIRE but
[35:51] Speaker 2: i think that adds a lot of juice to all.
[35:53] Speaker 1: This, THING yeah, i, MEAN people i hear this a
[35:55] Speaker 1: lot about a lot of things, in life and maybe
[36:00] Speaker 1: Maybe as, I'VE aged i don't think this is a
[36:02] Speaker 1: contrarian TAKE because i always, hear blank isn't sustainable? In
[36:06] Speaker 1: baseball it's, not sustainable yess. It is If, the Cubs,
[36:10] Speaker 1: the Yankees, the Astros, the Dodgers the phillies, are great it's.
[36:14] Speaker 1: Very Sustainable, AND john i do not remember a college.
[36:19] Speaker 1: FOOTBALL season i don't remember ONE that i was. More
[36:22] Speaker 1: engaged there were, more drama more. BIG games i mean
[36:27] Speaker 1: the otter thing IS that i said this TODAY on
[36:31] Speaker 1: fs one patient is. A virtue a virtue doesn't virtue
[36:34] Speaker 1: doesn't win. Playoff Games new england Blew Out girad mayo in.
[36:38] Speaker 1: One year clearly the. Right move Look. At seattle think
[36:43] Speaker 1: about this two years Ago Was Seattle pete carroll at.
[36:47] Speaker 1: THE end i mean you looked up and, you went
[36:49] Speaker 1: what a. Lost franchise two years later they look like
[36:54] Speaker 1: the best roster easily IN the nfl and In The
[36:58] Speaker 1: super bowl. Two years you can't do that IN the
[37:01] Speaker 1: nba because IN, the nba the players entering your franchiser
[37:06] Speaker 1: nineteen and twenty, years old they're. Not, men well now
[37:09] Speaker 1: college football. Is older the players ENTERING. THE nfl i
[37:12] Speaker 1: Mean the patriots have like five rookies making. An impact
[37:16] Speaker 1: these are. Grown men their bodies, are full twenty three.
[37:20] Speaker 1: Years old they're ready to produce AT the nfl level.
[37:22] Speaker 1: As rookies so you, can rebuild and so you can
[37:26] Speaker 1: rebuild much more quickly IN the nfl because a coaching
[37:29] Speaker 1: matters more than. Any sport so the Difference Between gerad
[37:32] Speaker 1: Mayo And mike Rabel Or nat Hackett And sean payton
[37:35] Speaker 1: is fourteen points. A game. It's substantial it's the difference
[37:39] Speaker 1: between losing games and. Winning, games secondly your draft. Is
[37:43] Speaker 1: full you can have ten to eleven. Draft picks six
[37:46] Speaker 1: guys can play as rookies and they're twenty three year.
[37:48] Speaker 1: Old men they're productive from. Day one so football is.
[37:52] Speaker 1: Just built It's the league. Of hope it's built to turnaround.
[37:54] Speaker 1: Things quickly bears, last, Year, unwatchable Patriots, unwatchable seahawks two, years,
[38:00] Speaker 1: Ago Unwatchable Lakeroo jacksonville houston the Day Before Demiko ryans
[38:06] Speaker 1: is drafted unwatchable three thirteen. And one now you know
[38:10] Speaker 1: they're in, the playoffs winning games.
[38:11] Speaker 2: Every year did you see, THE quote i think it
[38:13] Speaker 2: was From either Russini or sando article In the athletic
[38:17] Speaker 2: that an, unnamed coach probably a, head coach said that
[38:19] Speaker 2: these are the thirty two worst owners we've. Ever had
[38:22] Speaker 2: did you? See that it kind of, Went, viral yeah
[38:25] Speaker 2: and my, thought, WAS now i just think all these
[38:28] Speaker 2: guys have more money. Than ever the Reason That stein
[38:30] Speaker 2: brenner or Ready to bartelow or someone could fire people
[38:32] Speaker 2: whenever they wanted back in, the day because they had
[38:34] Speaker 2: enough money, to bidwell couldn't afford to. Do IT most
[38:37] Speaker 2: nfl owners in, The Seventies JaMarcus russell got drafted number.
[38:41] Speaker 2: One overall he set out the first four or five
[38:42] Speaker 2: games Because al davis did not have the money to
[38:44] Speaker 2: pay the, signing bonus had to wait for the media money.
[38:46] Speaker 2: That colin that was not nineteen, eighty six that was
[38:49] Speaker 2: two thousand. And six think how FAR the nfl two thousand.
[38:52] Speaker 2: And Six al davis did not have, enough money and
[38:54] Speaker 2: he probably wouldn't have been alone with some. Other, franchises
[38:57] Speaker 2: remember because at, the time rookies that were drafted one
[39:00] Speaker 2: or two got enormous amounts. Of Money Stafford. JaMarcus russell
[39:04] Speaker 2: think of where we're. At Now The, arizona cardinals who
[39:06] Speaker 2: are a, joke franchise can constantly pay people to go
[39:09] Speaker 2: away because he has so much money coming in FROM the.
[39:11] Speaker 2: Tv revenue so when you factor in Programs Like the
[39:15] Speaker 2: bills And, the ravens these big, money franchises they can
[39:19] Speaker 2: kind of do whatever. They want but these owners back
[39:21] Speaker 2: in the seventies, and eighties they would have paid people
[39:24] Speaker 2: to go away if they could have afforded to. Do
[39:27] Speaker 2: it when they were mad at, their coaches or they
[39:29] Speaker 2: just could enough so.
[39:29] Speaker 1: THINGS change, i MEAN the nfl at the end of
[39:33] Speaker 1: their fiscal year right to CHECK every nfl, ownership, Group,
[39:38] Speaker 1: right yeah what was the check? Last year four hundred
[39:41] Speaker 1: and forty. Million dollars so that's just WHAT the nfl
[39:44] Speaker 1: pays you to own. A team that's FROM the. Tv
[39:47] Speaker 1: deal do you know the money the game day Revenue At.
[39:51] Speaker 1: SOFI stadium i Talked To stan kronkey and asked him what.
[39:54] Speaker 1: It was he gave me a lot. Of insight he
[39:56] Speaker 1: wouldn't tell me. The number the game days.
[39:59] Speaker 2: Would again gross revenue forty million dollars.
[40:02] Speaker 3: OR something i don't know for, THAT much i WILL
[40:07] Speaker 3: say i WOULD say i would just, say this over
[40:11] Speaker 3: the course of, A season i think you could easily
[40:14] Speaker 3: add another one hundred million of the rams, in beer,
[40:18] Speaker 3: food tickets game, Day revenue, sunday revenue it was at
[40:22] Speaker 3: eighty to.
[40:22] Speaker 1: One hundred so now you're at. Four, fifty okay now
[40:25] Speaker 1: you're at. Five fifty won't And again i'm not even
[40:28] Speaker 1: sure if this counts the way they do it of
[40:31] Speaker 1: all the retail these Owners like craft Have, around Foxboro Around.
[40:36] Speaker 1: Gillette stadium so when your annual revenue just from your
[40:40] Speaker 1: your eight nine, home games and they also have, preseason
[40:44] Speaker 1: games WHICH are i think that's baked into the season.
[40:46] Speaker 1: Ticket thing then then also if you're, well run you
[40:48] Speaker 1: get home.
[40:49] Speaker 2: Playoff games you're not even factoring in all the other
[40:53] Speaker 2: stuff that goes on to. THE stadium i remember one
[40:55] Speaker 2: TIME when i worked For, The Eagles, don smolenski who's now.
[40:58] Speaker 2: The president back then he was LIKE the vp used
[41:00] Speaker 2: to work out in, the morning AND sometimes i go
[41:02] Speaker 2: there and work out, before work, like early and then
[41:05] Speaker 2: you shower head. To WORK and i. Remember showering his
[41:07] Speaker 2: locker was by my Locker And taylor swift this, twenty
[41:10] Speaker 2: ten so She's Not taylor. Swift today had just played
[41:13] Speaker 2: a concert there on Like A, sunday saturday this is the.
[41:15] Speaker 1: Off SEASON and i.
[41:16] Speaker 2: STARTED talking i love talking, to him picking his brain,
[41:18] Speaker 2: business wise and HE said i, basically said how does his?
[41:21] Speaker 2: Work financially and he, essentially, said well when, they left
[41:25] Speaker 2: we cut her manager for her operation a seven. Figure,
[41:28] Speaker 2: check again this is, twenty ten that's what we. Paid,
[41:32] Speaker 2: her obviously they're making way more for. The event so
[41:35] Speaker 2: when you're talking concerts and all the events at, these
[41:38] Speaker 2: stadiums which ALL these nfl stadiums, are Hosting From taylor
[41:41] Speaker 2: swift To The rolling STONES, to wwe those revenue generators
[41:46] Speaker 2: that even if they PAY the Wwe Or taylor swift
[41:48] Speaker 2: five million dollars, ten minutes what are. They making so
[41:51] Speaker 2: when you factor in all that's why all these people
[41:53] Speaker 2: want these. New Stadiums mark davis changed the course Of
[41:58] Speaker 2: the raiders financially even before and his money guys came
[42:01] Speaker 2: in the moment they went into that Place in vegas
[42:03] Speaker 2: and that revenue generator started as Pump When jed york
[42:06] Speaker 2: Moved To. LEVI stadium i mean they host Everything From
[42:10] Speaker 2: royal rumbles to any. Big concert that the money, they
[42:13] Speaker 2: make even if they only they don't get one hundred percent,
[42:16] Speaker 2: of it even give them. Twenty percent if that's how
[42:18] Speaker 2: many days you're only hosting how many?
[42:19] Speaker 1: Football?
[42:19] Speaker 2: Games right so the money they have coming in from
[42:23] Speaker 2: these events. IS astronomical i mean you've been saying forever
[42:27] Speaker 2: there's a reason all these guys have these hundred and fifty,
[42:29] Speaker 2: you know million. Dollar yachts they are and they sweating
[42:33] Speaker 2: the gas on.
[42:33] Speaker 1: That thing you're getting the, lead checks you're getting the game,
[42:37] Speaker 1: Day REVENUE and i don't know what the game day.
[42:38] Speaker 1: REVENUE is i just know So far i've been TOLD
[42:41] Speaker 1: so fi game day revenue. Is enormous, for real.
[42:45] Speaker 2: Doesn't he get two games because he rents It to
[42:48] Speaker 2: dean so he gets.
[42:49] Speaker 1: Both, Teams yeah i'm not sure how that. DEAL works
[42:53] Speaker 1: i Know the chargers have a hell of. A Deal
[42:55] Speaker 1: the spanos has built a. New facility they're rolling. In
[42:58] Speaker 1: money They Paid, harbass staffert, You Know. Khalil mack they
[43:01] Speaker 1: they they they're spending the most money they've. Ever spent
[43:05] Speaker 1: and to, your point these these stadiums. Broker, deals listen
[43:09] Speaker 1: when when people Like the, walmart Family the, walton family,
[43:13] Speaker 1: you know are, buying teams you know that that's a pretty.
[43:16] Speaker 1: Good indication this is one of the great Businesses in
[43:19] Speaker 1: america and it's not. GOING away i usually judge sports
[43:25] Speaker 1: by what my, friends like and my friends kind of
[43:28] Speaker 1: bailed on baseball. For years they're kind of back. INTO
[43:31] Speaker 1: baseball i FEEL like. I am i care more. About
[43:33] Speaker 1: baseball the right teams, are winning the, sports faster it's much.
[43:36] Speaker 1: More Consumable but i'm, RIGHT now i Feel like i've
[43:39] Speaker 1: kind of disconnected FROM. THE nba i am so INTO
[43:42] Speaker 1: the nfl, college Football and i've been watching the off
[43:45] Speaker 1: season in baseball, because again the right teams. Are WINNING
[43:49] Speaker 1: the nba has always been so fearful, of Dynasties and,
[43:52] Speaker 1: i'm like one of The reasons i'm back. In Baseball,
[43:54] Speaker 1: the Yankees, the cubs And the dodgers, are good And
[43:56] Speaker 1: the phillies. Are good those are like blue. BLOOD teams
[43:58] Speaker 1: i LIKE blue i like When, the Celtics, the Lakers,
[44:01] Speaker 1: the Warriors, THE knicks i like when. They're Good, THE
[44:04] Speaker 1: sixers i. DON'T know i when those teams.
[44:07] Speaker 2: ARE good i think One Issue adam silver has is
[44:09] Speaker 2: financially they just three exer deal so they ain't have
[44:12] Speaker 2: to worry about anything in terms Of financial they have
[44:15] Speaker 2: a third of the league that doesn't try it starts
[44:16] Speaker 2: Tanking in November and. December brutal that is something that
[44:21] Speaker 2: it kind of they battled it for. A while it
[44:22] Speaker 2: felt like it was getting. A little it is in
[44:24] Speaker 2: full force right now at these last couple, of years
[44:26] Speaker 2: and that those teams just do. The math those ten
[44:29] Speaker 2: teams are constantly playing the. Good teams you have unwatchable.
[44:32] Speaker 2: Product constantly even IN. The nfl you get. Bad teams
[44:36] Speaker 2: but the teams. Play hard no one's trying. To lose
[44:39] Speaker 2: that's why we make fun of the. Bad Teams the
[44:41] Speaker 2: titans tried to win every game, they, Played right so
[44:44] Speaker 2: THE, THE nba, i mean some of these teams, start losing which.
[44:47] Speaker 2: IS sad, I mean i grew up LOVING, the nba
[44:49] Speaker 2: grew up Right around Sacramento By. ARCO arena, I, HONESTLY
[44:52] Speaker 2: colin i Don't think i've watched half OF the nba.
[44:55] Speaker 1: This.
[44:55] Speaker 2: YEAR now i followed, the sport, RIGHT like i know what's,
[44:58] Speaker 2: going ON but i don't watch. The product and it
[45:01] Speaker 2: is and you hear the winhorse of the world like
[45:02] Speaker 2: thanking is a. It is they've poured gasoline on the fire. Right,
[45:07] Speaker 2: now yes it's, really bad which understandable because there are
[45:10] Speaker 2: six or seven kids in. This draft that's the only
[45:13] Speaker 2: way to improve your team is a nail. A pick
[45:15] Speaker 2: but that's bad for the business of the. LEAGUE throughout
[45:17] Speaker 2: i don't know what's a six. MONTH season, i mean
[45:19] Speaker 2: you get a third of the league is, not trying
[45:22] Speaker 2: not trying actively. Not TRYING that's i, DON'T know i
[45:26] Speaker 2: don't know how you, fix it but that's that's a
[45:29] Speaker 2: that's a.
[45:29] Speaker 1: Major Issue Indiana hoosier football. Twenty seven Miami hurricaneses valiant effort,
[45:37] Speaker 1: twenty one Third Straight big. Ten champ congrats To, the
[45:40] Speaker 1: hoosiers well earned sixteen. And zero that, HASN'T happened i
[45:46] Speaker 1: think Since a. YALE team i don't know what the
[45:49] Speaker 1: hell they were doing not playing with helmets back in
[45:52] Speaker 1: the eighteen hundred and. SIXTEEN games i don't think they
[45:55] Speaker 1: had helmets that. They did they didn't look like. These
[45:56] Speaker 1: helmets john is always good fun audios the volume
