[0:00] I really hope that this episode can create a lot of clarity for
[0:03] the girlies out there who are overthinkers, who are over
[0:05] analytical and you're like, I need to quote UN quote, figure
[0:08] out my life. The truth is, the best ideas
[0:11] come when you're actually not thinking.
[0:13] And This is why. Oh, hey, what's up guys?
[0:21] Welcome back to the podcast. I am Kayla Rose.
[0:24] If you haven't seen me before, I know we have a lot of new
[0:26] followers on YouTube, but we have a whole community across
[0:28] Spotify, across Apple podcasts with over 200,000 subscribers.
[0:32] I'm Kayla Rose, I'm the host of Skinny Dipping, the podcast.
[0:34] We love to strip down and we love to dive in metaphorically,
[0:37] of course. I mean, of course we love like a
[0:39] real in real life skinny dipping, like don't get me
[0:41] wrong. But here I love breaking down
[0:43] concepts and diving into nuances around all topics around mental
[0:47] health, around science, around spirituality.
[0:49] I love to meet at that like intersectionality between
[0:52] science and spirituality because I feel like for me, that's where
[0:55] I have found the most truth in my 8 years of my spiritual
[0:59] journey. And also loving reading about
[1:02] the brain. And I went to school.
[1:04] I didn't finish my degree, I'm just saying, but I did go to
[1:06] school for a couple years for sociology.
[1:08] I've always been super into understanding humans.
[1:11] Why do we do what we do? And that's what I love to break
[1:13] down here. And today is another one of
[1:15] those days, babe, because this concept has been on my mind for
[1:18] so long, because I think it's one of the most practical
[1:20] things, especially for somebody like myself who is an
[1:23] overthinker who likes to take everything and overanalyze the
[1:27] fuck out of it until there's nothing left on the table.
[1:30] Like how can we pick it apart? How can we problem solve?
[1:33] And I feel like so many of my girlfriends, like we're like
[1:35] this. And I have just seen in my life
[1:38] that whenever I feel stuck and I have a problem or I don't know
[1:41] what the next step is, or I don't have clarity on my life
[1:44] path. I don't have clarity on what the
[1:45] fuck that I'm doing in my in my 20s as a 26 year old.
[1:49] The more that I think, think about it, the more that I try to
[1:51] problem solve and quote UN quote figure out my life, the more I
[1:54] end up tying myself in a knot. And then later in the day when
[1:57] I, you know, have just let it go.
[1:59] I'm like, I don't have to figure it out right now.
[2:01] That art of detachment right there.
[2:03] And I'm on a walk with my dog or maybe I'm folding laundry or
[2:06] maybe I'm just like on a drive to go pick myself up some take
[2:09] out. And immediately I'll be like,
[2:11] that's what I need to do. That is the next step.
[2:14] And it just drops in. And in the spiritual community,
[2:17] I call this a download. OK.
[2:20] And when it's a download, it can feel like it's from source,
[2:22] right? Source isn't God, the universe,
[2:25] whatever you believe in, just like this source energy that,
[2:29] you know, gives you ideas all the time, your creative ideas,
[2:32] those are channels from the divine.
[2:35] And you know, sometimes it feels like, oh, like this is coming
[2:39] from somewhere else. But actually, when we look into
[2:41] science, like I do believe that downloads are from the divine,
[2:44] but then also our bodies, our brains as human, we are also
[2:48] divine. We do have these capabilities
[2:50] within us. And the default mode network in
[2:53] science supports why we get these crazy downloads and aha
[2:56] moments in our life. And we're like, wow, this is
[2:59] what I need to do. I don't need to think my way out
[3:02] of solutions. I just need to experience life
[3:04] and the answer will come to me. I just need to align myself and
[3:07] act and the answer will come to me.
[3:09] I just need to clear my mind and maybe be bored for a couple of
[3:12] hours and the answer will come to me.
[3:15] The more that I can be a Clear Channel and not be consuming
[3:18] everybody else's bullshit, the more that my own mind and also
[3:21] my connection to spirit can really give me the answers that
[3:24] I truly need. And that is why the best ideas
[3:27] come when you are not thinking. And I know it's like so
[3:32] counterintuitive. You're like, wait, what?
[3:34] Like you mean I don't need to like journal about this and
[3:36] write this down. Like, of course, sit of things,
[3:38] but today we're going to be diving into explaining the
[3:40] default mode network because it is so incredibly fascinating and
[3:44] interesting that actually the best solutions and the most
[3:47] clarity for any step forward always comes from almost
[3:51] nothingness. Like it comes from doing
[3:53] nothing. It comes from doing something
[3:54] mundane. And all of a sudden you know
[3:56] that feeling, right? Like if you're watching this far
[3:59] already, I know you know that feeling where you're like, Oh my
[4:02] God, I just got the answer. Maybe you're out with your
[4:04] friends, Maybe you're out of dinner and all of a sudden
[4:06] you're like, wait, it came to me and you just have that click,
[4:10] that aha moment and it feels so good.
[4:13] So how can we access more of this magic?
[4:16] Let's strip down and dive into it.
[4:18] If you're new here, I want you to comment below if you're on
[4:20] Spotify or if you're listening on YouTube and watching the
[4:23] video version, I want you to just go ahead and comment like
[4:26] where you're listening from or if you're a first time listener
[4:29] or if you're a returning listener, or if you see me
[4:31] before on TikTok or whatever, just like share where you're
[4:33] coming from because I love just hearing about you guys.
[4:37] And yeah, if you get any like downloads or aha moments during
[4:40] the episode, also drop them below because I think that I
[4:42] want to create like community, especially around YouTube and in
[4:45] the comments sections. I think there's such a beautiful
[4:47] ability for you guys to share your thoughts that could
[4:49] hopefully impact others who are scrolling and reading.
[4:52] So make sure that you comment your downloads also below.
[4:54] And if you hit the subscribe or follow button, whatever you're
[4:56] listening on. And of course, you can go ahead
[4:58] and just copy the link and send it to somebody that you love.
[5:00] That always helps support the algorithm to support my work, to
[5:03] support what I love to do to create this free content for you
[5:05] guys. And if you feel like you want
[5:08] even more of this work, I have like breath work, EFT, tapping
[5:11] meditations, all this good magic classes on my soul and progress
[5:16] community. So anyway, let's get into it.
[5:20] I'm so incredibly excited. Let's strip down and dive in.
[5:24] Why do the best ideas come when we're not thinking?
[5:26] When I like I said before, we're folding laundry.
[5:29] We are on a walk. We aren't paying attention to
[5:32] the actual problem. Our mind is elsewhere.
[5:34] Our mind is maybe in mundane, maybe it's in boredom.
[5:37] And boom, the aha moment, the clarity, it drops right in.
[5:42] Why does that happen? It's because our brain has this
[5:44] magical ecosystem called the Default Mode Network.
[5:49] And I've been loving researching about this because honestly, a
[5:52] little bit about my process that's like, I love cross
[5:54] referencing. Like I will cross reference
[5:57] across different sources of searching.
[5:59] And I also love to look at peer reviewed articles.
[6:02] And yeah, I just love to make sure that the information that
[6:04] I'm giving is something I feel like is reliable for you guys.
[6:07] And that's a really big priority for me.
[6:09] So there's a reason and that's this default mode network.
[6:12] And I want to figure out in this episode, how can we access more
[6:14] of that? And instead of overthinking our
[6:16] way into literally tying ourselves into a knot and just
[6:19] feeling so overstimulated, feeling so much pressure to make
[6:23] a decision to pick the quote UN quote right decision, which
[6:27] first of all, there is no right or wrong decision.
[6:29] Like literally ever. I believe there is an infinite
[6:32] amount of timelines. And with the butterfly effect,
[6:35] every single thing that you do transforms into the next
[6:39] infinite timeline that is possible for you in your future.
[6:41] So with that being said, there is no right or wrong decision,
[6:44] but I know for myself as an overthinker girly, for example,
[6:48] I'm an Aries Scorpio rising Gemini moon.
[6:50] OK, a little chart moment for you guys.
[6:51] And my Gemini moon definitely loves to just yap and figure
[6:55] things out and it can just get so noisy.
[6:57] And the truth is, clarity and truth does not come within the
[7:00] noise, it comes within the silence.
[7:03] So what is the default mode network?
[7:05] I'm going to pull out my notes. Let's go.
[7:07] You know, we got that. They're always crazy notes.
[7:10] You couldn't read them, but I can.
[7:12] So what is the default mode network?
[7:14] The default mode network is a set of brain regions that are
[7:18] large scale and intrinsically interconnected.
[7:22] They activate when you are doing nothing, when you're in
[7:25] nothingness, when you're in boredom, when you're in the
[7:26] mundane, and when you're resting.
[7:28] And this part of our brain, this whole unit that works
[7:32] intrinsically together is responsible for self reflection
[7:36] and daydreaming, but also remembering and imagining.
[7:39] And I feel like those two words, remembering and imagining is why
[7:43] we have the ability to come up with the best solutions because
[7:46] we're pulling together all these memories from our past
[7:49] experiences, from things that we've learned through our
[7:51] education, through just the thing that you heard on the
[7:54] radio that one time. You're remembering all these
[7:57] things that normally you wouldn't remember.
[7:59] And then on top of that, there's this imagining, there's this
[8:01] future forward ability to dream. And that's why I think this
[8:05] default mode network really creates the best solutions and
[8:08] best ideas. And there is the not opposite of
[8:12] the default mode network, but another system within our body
[8:14] called the central executive network.
[8:17] And I think it's important for us to talk about this because it
[8:20] gives a lot of clarity to why we aren't able to always access
[8:24] that default mode network. Maybe our brain is too active,
[8:27] maybe we are not able to truly rest.
[8:29] And yeah, we have this DMN, so default mode network, but then
[8:33] they have the CEN, which is central executive network.
[8:36] And I think of this is like the outward boss babe, like where,
[8:41] you know, the default mode network is, you know, in in the
[8:44] garden and coming up with the ideas and solutions and
[8:47] brainstorming and dreaming and scheming the reality they want
[8:51] to create from them for themselves and creating the best
[8:53] pathway there through the resources they've collected over
[8:56] time. We love that.
[8:58] We love that she's just vibing, but we need this central
[9:01] executive network, the CEN because she is our boss babe
[9:04] that actually does OK. This is the actual working
[9:08] memory, the conscious memory, memories that you are like
[9:12] cautiously bringing up in your brain.
[9:14] This is active problem solving. When you are sitting in front of
[9:17] a puzzle, when you are sitting in front of something you really
[9:21] need to get done, this is this active problem solving.
[9:24] And then also the CEN is responsible for goal directed
[9:29] behavior. So yeah, I think it's really
[9:32] interesting because the CEN, if it's working towards a goal, I
[9:35] think it shows us that sometimes by working on a goal and hyper
[9:39] fixating on it, we can actually create blinders for ourselves
[9:42] where we're not able to see everything that we know,
[9:45] everything that we are able to think of and, and and create
[9:48] from nothingness. Because when we have a goal,
[9:51] we're so focused on that, that we can put blinders on that we
[9:53] can miss really important information.
[9:55] And that's why when we are in this rest mode, we are able to
[9:58] activate the default mode network, which allows us to
[10:02] remember and imagine and basically pull all different
[10:07] scenarios, situations, past experiences, past education from
[10:12] parts of our brain that we are not even tapped into.
[10:15] When we are in the default mode network, your brain is able to
[10:18] connect so many dots that it's not able to do within an active
[10:23] problem solving and active thinking state and with that
[10:27] kind of active goal directed behavior.
[10:30] So with that, it's like, can you do things that have less of a
[10:33] goal oriented response? For example, like I just love
[10:37] cleaning my house. I feel like I get the best
[10:39] downloads when I'm cleaning my house because, you know,
[10:42] obviously the goal is to clean my house, but it's not, it's not
[10:44] like a serious goal. Like I'm not putting all this
[10:46] pressure on myself. Like I'm just going with the
[10:48] flow. I'm just doing it.
[10:49] Or for example, like even playing music or today I danced
[10:52] in the gym and like I wasn't like, you know, trying to be
[10:55] perfect. I was just moving my body.
[10:57] And it's like ideas flow in because I am not having this
[11:02] like, oh, I have to, I have to be this way or I have to, I have
[11:07] to look a certain way or I have to appear a certain way to
[11:11] others or I have to accomplish this thing to prove myself.
[11:14] It's like those are all thought patterns that get in the way of
[11:19] our actual clarity and our actual truth.
[11:21] So this podcast is sponsored by Better Help.
[11:26] OK, so it passed already, but that doesn't mean that we can't
[11:28] celebrate. October 10th was World Mental
[11:32] Health Day, and this year we're saying thank you to therapists.
[11:36] I know that we all have a special therapist in our life
[11:38] that we're just like, wow, they really actually helped me.
[11:42] And if you're looking to give therapy a try, but you know you
[11:45] don't really know where to go, you can always try Better Help
[11:48] because it's online. You can switch therapists at any
[11:50] time and they have over 30,000 therapists.
[11:53] So you can just really find somebody that's perfect for you.
[11:56] And you can do it from the comfort of your home, which is
[11:59] really incredible in your busy life.
[12:01] This World Mental Health Day, we're celebrating the therapist
[12:03] who've helped millions of people take a step board.
[12:06] And if you're ready to find the right therapist for you, Better
[12:09] Help can help you start that journey.
[12:11] The listeners of Skinny Dipping, of course, get 10% off the first
[12:14] month of betterhelp.com/skinny Dipping.
[12:16] It's also going to be linked below, but that's Betterhelp
[12:19] help.com/skinny Dipping. Why do we get these aha moments
[12:25] in the default mode network? First of all #1 let's get into
[12:29] the science, baby. Let's talk about the incubation
[12:31] effect. OK, so when you step away from
[12:35] your zoomed in vision, right, you're so zoomed in.
[12:38] I need to accomplish this goal in my career.
[12:41] I need to make sure that I'm getting this certification or
[12:44] whatever it is for you. So the incubation effect
[12:47] basically shows us that when you zoom out, right?
[12:50] When you can be so zoomed in and you're creating those blinders,
[12:53] when you actually zoom out from the vision that you're looking
[12:57] at. Our brain does a lot on its own.
[13:00] It has so many capabilities. Please stop doubting your your
[13:03] own mind and your own body and how fucking brilliant it is to
[13:07] be human and so cool that our brain does so much.
[13:09] And that's why I love this work because it's like the brain does
[13:12] so much on its own when we actually like put our foot off
[13:15] the brakes and we stopped trying to control anything.
[13:17] What happens is that the default mode network pulls neural
[13:21] pathways from past experiences from your hippocampus, right?
[13:26] Those past experiences coming in from that hippocampus and past
[13:29] neural pathways and ways that you've thought.
[13:31] And it can just pull in all these things and as well as
[13:34] associations and pattern recognition.
[13:37] And I genuinely believe I'm going to talk about this a
[13:39] little bit later with pattern recognition, but it's like
[13:42] pattern recognition is one of the greatest signs of
[13:44] intelligence. And when we train our brain to
[13:46] love pattern recognition, we are able to come up with the most
[13:50] incredible solutions and just game plans and moments of action
[13:56] and choices in our life because we are seeing a pattern.
[14:01] So when we zoom out in this incubation effect, all these
[14:04] neural pathways, past experiences, the hippocampus,
[14:07] the association part of our brain, the pattern recognition
[14:09] part of our brain, they're all able to communicate with each
[14:12] other. They're all able to be boop,
[14:14] bounce around, communicate with each other in the background.
[14:17] It's not conscious, it's in the background.
[14:19] It's doing its thing without you.
[14:21] And with that boom, you know what to do.
[14:24] It just clicks because it put it took all these different parts
[14:27] of your brain to come up with the best thing for you,
[14:31] depending on all the things you've experienced and all the
[14:33] things that you know. And then also like coming into
[14:37] contact also with your intuition and the divine.
[14:39] This is like just my personal opinion, but when I look at the
[14:42] default mode network and then I look at intuition, I'm like,
[14:45] they work together. They're not either or they're
[14:47] not separate. They're not like woo woo versus
[14:49] science. Like literally they work
[14:50] together to create the world. Like spirituality also is
[14:54] clearly science. It's we're able to see it in
[14:57] quantum physics and there it's just pretty fucking amazing what
[15:00] we're able to even prove within the energetic and spiritual
[15:03] realm through science. And I don't think they work
[15:05] against each other. I think they work together and
[15:08] they really have the same goals and, and come from the same
[15:11] place. So when they're all
[15:13] communicating in the background, that little incubation effect
[15:16] creates boop. All of a sudden your chick is
[15:18] born in his little incubation. Tada #2 so another reason why we
[15:26] get these aha moments when we're activating that default mode
[15:29] network, whether we're resting or we're doing nothing or we're
[15:31] doing something mundane or something really simple for us,
[15:33] what happens is there are less distractions.
[15:37] And when I was writing about this episode, I got this huge
[15:41] download to just be like, you need to take your addiction to
[15:46] your phone and social media more seriously.
[15:49] And I do too, because the amount of information that we are
[15:53] constantly taking in just isn't sustainable for us.
[15:57] And our brains, our brains didn't evolve like our humans
[16:00] brains did not evolve to all of a sudden, like I'm scrolling and
[16:05] I'm crying because I'm seeing what's happening across the
[16:08] world and with the children of the world, like specifically in
[16:10] Palestine, for example, I'll see that and I'm like, my fucking
[16:13] heart is ripped out of my chest. And then I'll scroll and I'll be
[16:15] like, this new thing happened in environmental, like in the
[16:20] environmental history and it's really exciting and good things
[16:23] are happening. And I'm like, yay.
[16:24] And then I scroll again and I'm watching a video of somebody,
[16:27] you know, get having their dreams come true.
[16:30] And the guy who goes ahead and like pays people to support
[16:34] their dreams. And I'm crying again.
[16:36] And then all of a sudden like I'm scrolling again and there's
[16:38] a photo of a dog and I'm giggling.
[16:40] And it's like our brains physically were not meant to
[16:45] first of all, change that quickly, just in terms of our
[16:49] mood, our regulation, but we weren't meant to take in so much
[16:53] fucking information at once. And of course there's important
[16:56] information we need to be connected to the world.
[16:59] And also at the same time, the amount of information just has
[17:01] gotten so incredibly toxic. And I genuinely believe that
[17:07] less distractions lead to more original thought.
[17:11] And if you want to be a smart, hot girly, you know, that really
[17:16] just like feels, I don't know. Like I, for me anyway, I feel
[17:21] really lit up when I'm using my brain in a way that feels
[17:25] expansive for me. Like, I just love it.
[17:27] Like, I get it. If you're listening to this
[17:28] episode, I'm guessing you are like that too.
[17:31] And we need our original thought, we need our downloads,
[17:34] we need to be writing and sharing what we actually come up
[17:38] with through our past experiences and our education
[17:41] and everything combined and our intuition.
[17:44] But we can't do that if we are so clouded by distractions.
[17:47] So less distractions and take like I use Opal and this is not
[17:53] sponsored. I pay for it.
[17:54] It's honestly way too fucking expensive I will say.
[17:57] But it does work and it's an app on your phone.
[17:59] I also saw they have like those the blocks.
[18:01] I'm like, they should sponsor me.
[18:02] I'm like blog sponsor me babe, Because I just think if I want
[18:06] to support you guys and coming up with the best ideas and
[18:09] solutions for your life and also having clarity and feeling in
[18:12] alignment and just feeling clear enough to be able to make
[18:15] decisions that support you and your future and your dreams.
[18:18] Like one of the main things that both you, you and I, babe, both
[18:22] of us together need to do is less social media, less
[18:25] distractions, less information intake.
[18:28] We need to chill with the information intake genuinely and
[18:32] #3 why do we get these aha moments according to science?
[18:37] Basically, our brain is so cool and it is able to spot patterns,
[18:40] which I believe is the highest form of intelligence, and that
[18:43] can help you come up with the greatest solutions.
[18:47] I love learning about this DMN, this default mode network to the
[18:50] CEN Central Executive Network because we need both.
[18:53] Like they're both amazing parts of our brain that, you know, we
[18:56] do need that active problem solving sometimes.
[18:59] We need that goal oriented behavior, of course, of course.
[19:02] And I think that's what our society is mostly based around.
[19:04] And that's why when I'm coming here and telling you to do more
[19:06] nothingness, more mundane and lessening your distractions and
[19:10] lessening your information intake so that your brain can
[19:13] actually do its job. And also you can have clear
[19:15] channels so that spirit can also communicate with you.
[19:17] It's like we need both. But I think our society is
[19:20] really based off this active CEN central executive network.
[19:24] And I would just challenge you if you feel like you fall into
[19:26] that category of always having to be on and I get a girl, I'll
[19:31] sometimes cry after a long day because I'm like, I being on for
[19:35] so long is really challenging for me.
[19:38] And if you notice that you've been raised in that, you know,
[19:41] as a lot of us have in this Western society, just notice
[19:45] like, how can I activate this default mode network more?
[19:47] How can I do nothing more? How can I slow down?
[19:49] How can I create the mundane so that spirit can flow through me
[19:54] so that my default mode network can do its job and put all the
[19:56] puzzle pieces together so I can know what to do?
[19:59] And now we're getting into the final part of the episode, which
[20:01] is the actionable steps. You know, I love to talk about
[20:04] all of this in theory, of course, education is important.
[20:07] But just like what I'm talking about, you don't need so much
[20:11] information. What you need is practice.
[20:13] You don't need more information, you don't need more advice.
[20:16] You just need honestly more mundane, more nothingness, more
[20:19] clarity. And that comes from just
[20:22] practicing and. Taking those actionable steps
[20:24] and not just talking about it and thinking about it and
[20:27] listening to this podcast, but it's actually doing something
[20:30] about it. So these are your actionable
[20:31] steps for activating your default mode network so you can
[20:34] come up with the best ideas without thinking.
[20:37] Number one, do less. It's really that simple.
[20:41] It's really that simple. And if you struggle to do less,
[20:45] I promise you, you're probably struggling with some kind of
[20:48] dopamine addiction, or maybe you're really afraid of
[20:51] loneliness, or maybe you're really scared of boredom and
[20:55] that comes from a discomfort with yourself not loving your
[20:59] own company. And I've I still struggle with
[21:01] this so much. No matter how much I have worked
[21:04] on loving my own company, spending time with myself,
[21:06] slowing down, I still get into moments of judgement and I still
[21:10] get into moments of hyper distraction.
[21:13] And it is so part of the journey.
[21:14] But just coming back to that practice, practice, practice,
[21:17] practice. Do less because when you do less
[21:20] you createspace when you take and less you createspace.
[21:25] But get off your phone when you do less.
[21:27] Because if you're on your phone, if you're doing less, OK, you're
[21:31] not doing anything. You cancel your plans, you
[21:33] cancel your meetings. You say, hey, I'll get to my
[21:36] emails till later tomorrow. I get it, girl.
[21:40] And then you go and you scroll on your phone.
[21:42] That isn't actually rest. That isn't actually doing less
[21:45] because even though your body is physically resting, your mind is
[21:49] still constantly activated and getting hit with so many
[21:53] chemicals, so many emotions. Especially as we talked about
[21:55] before is you know, the feed can scroll and change to such
[21:59] extremes and you can't be on your phone when you're doing
[22:03] nothing. You need to literally go outside
[22:05] and sit underneath a tree and actually do nothing.
[22:09] Of course, like you can bring little things to play with if
[22:11] you really need. But the more that you can just
[22:12] practice doing nothing, the easier will become and you will
[22:15] realize, oh, I actually love doing nothing because I see the
[22:18] effects. I see how I feel more clear.
[22:20] I see how decisions feel easier. I see how I feel less
[22:23] overwhelmed. I see how I'm able to create
[22:25] more aha moments and moments of clarity.
[22:28] Once you practice and then you see what's possible from
[22:31] clearing that space and creating space, you will actually want to
[22:36] choose that path. Because now like years later I
[22:38] used to really struggle. Like I could not.
[22:42] I was so addicted with my undiagnosed ADHD to dopamine
[22:45] because of like the dopamine dysfunction within a DHDI.
[22:48] Didn't realize until now, but I would keep myself so busy my
[22:52] whole life and it was so fucking exhausting.
[22:55] I'm not going to lie. Like, and I still go back into
[22:59] patterns. And then if I'm not in that
[23:00] pattern, I can get into patterns of guilt of not being that way.
[23:03] And the truth is the more that you show up and meet yourself
[23:06] with compassion and you're like, I'm just having an old pattern
[23:11] come up right now. And what I really need to do is
[23:13] to teach my brain that it is safe to create space and rest
[23:16] and do less and focus on the mundane.
[23:18] OK, no phones #2 actionable steps.
[23:23] I think anything in the cymatics field can be so incredibly
[23:27] helpful because when you're activating your body, it kind of
[23:31] helps turn, not turn your brain off, but turn the more active
[23:34] parts of your brain off. Maybe the prefrontal cortex kind
[23:37] of disappears a little bit more and doesn't get as strong when
[23:40] you're in flow state, when you're dancing, when you're
[23:41] creating art. And anything around cymatics and
[23:44] movement I think is really powerful.
[23:46] So if you're looking to get into cymatics, you can try out EFT
[23:49] tapping. You can for actual steps.
[23:52] You can try out any kind of like somatic psychology if you're
[23:55] looking for a new therapist, or you could try out breath work.
[23:58] Breath work has been so powerful because it really does allow you
[24:02] to access your brain just like comes up with the best solutions
[24:07] during breath work. And it has to be because I'm not
[24:09] exactly sure, but like there has to be a connection to the
[24:12] default mode network here because I realize the best
[24:16] solutions when I am in a breath work 2 hour session.
[24:20] So yeah, definitely any sort of type of somatics I think is
[24:24] incredibly helpful for getting out of your brain and into your
[24:27] body. And the more that you're in your
[24:29] body, the more that your brain, it can do the back end work and
[24:31] it can put the puzzle pieces together #3 I know I've already
[24:34] said this so many times, but take it seriously how much
[24:37] social media impacts your brain. And I'm not saying to make
[24:42] yourself feel bad or guilty because I promise you, my love,
[24:45] that is not the way. Like, if you make yourself feel
[24:47] bad and guilty, you're going to want it so much more.
[24:49] You have to meet yourself with the deepest compassion and just
[24:52] be like, yeah, I'm overwhelmed and or I'm feeling stressed out
[24:56] about something. So of course I'm going to
[24:57] scroll. Of course I'm going to escape.
[24:59] Now, can we pattern interrupt, take a shower or go on a walk
[25:02] and do something different? When you pattern interrupt the
[25:05] brain, you give it a moment and an opportunity to reset its
[25:09] feelings and its mood and just how it's operating.
[25:11] So take it seriously. How much social media impacts
[25:15] your brain? Like I understand, I literally
[25:18] do social media for a living, but the biggest tip that I would
[25:21] give you in that is I'm not really a scroller, but I notice
[25:24] I scroll way more when I'm not creating.
[25:26] So if you're not like this is an opportunity, like social media
[25:31] is such a cool opportunity in our lives, but it's like, how
[25:33] are you using it? Are you using it in the way that
[25:36] best serves you? And be mindful of that.
[25:38] And that just means taking it day by day and practicing
[25:41] getting off pattern, interrupting, taking a shower or
[25:44] going on a walk. That's the actual step #4
[25:47] actionable steps is getting into flow state.
[25:49] Of course, anything that puts you in flow state is just going
[25:51] to allow your brain to turn off and the other part of your brain
[25:56] to activate and #5 movement in general.
[25:59] I know these are all kind of similar, but I think the common
[26:01] theme is getting into your body and out of your mind, which we
[26:05] love. So default mode, network baby,
[26:08] activate it more. Because the best solutions come
[26:12] when you're not thinking. They come.
[26:14] Yeah, when you're folding that laundry, when you're on that
[26:16] walk. And you're going to find so much
[26:19] clarity when you take the actionable steps to actually
[26:22] rest, to do less, to create more space, to find the magic in the
[26:29] mundane and literally do more things that are incredibly
[26:33] mundane. Challenge yourself in that way
[26:36] and see what happens and watch the best ideas flow to you.
[26:40] OK, that is it for today. I love you guys so much.
[26:43] Make sure to subscribe, copy the link, send it to somebody.
[26:46] Of course, join the soul and progress community, follow me on
[26:48] Instagram. All the things are there.
[26:50] But above all, I just ask you to have a conscious relationship
[26:54] with yourself and everything around you, whether that's like
[26:57] literally you having a conscious relationship to your brain and
[27:01] what it reaches for when it needs that cheap dopamine.
[27:04] Instead of having that guilt spiral afterwards, just be
[27:06] mindful of it in the moment. That awareness is how you begin
[27:10] to transmute it and alchemize it.
[27:13] And you fucking got this. I believe in you.
[27:15] More default mode network activation and more clarity and
[27:19] better ideas. That's what I want to see for
[27:21] us. I love you guys so much.
[27:23] I'm Kayla Rose, this is skinny to Bang and I will see you guys
[27:25] next Tuesday. Bye.
