[0:00] I feel like after getting educated through other people's
[0:03] podcasts and through books and just through listening to
[0:10] experts, I'm like, OK, There's just certain things that I feel
[0:12] like are non negotiable for me to do with my body and also some
[0:15] things that I would literally never put near my body again.
[0:20] What's up guys? It's Kayla Rose, and welcome
[0:23] back to a very sexy skinny dipping summer.
[0:28] Today's episode is a little bit different.
[0:30] I feel like obviously I'm kind of in the Wellness category, but
[0:33] I don't often talk about my personal opinions around
[0:39] different Wellness things, mostly because I'm not a fucking
[0:43] expert. So it keeps me away from it.
[0:45] But I realize you guys want to know, like, what do I do for my
[0:48] health and kind of my beliefs? And with all of this being said,
[0:54] every physical body is so different, so I'm never going to
[0:57] sit here and be like, this is what you should do for your
[1:00] body. No, I'm not a fucking doctor.
[1:03] And even if I was a fucking doctor, a lot of the doctors
[1:06] that are, you know, trained through the current medical
[1:09] system, if they don't have discernment, you know, I don't
[1:13] even know if I trust them, But I do trust doctors who have gone
[1:15] through the medical system, who have discernment, who, you know,
[1:18] believe in holistic practices. Those are my favorite kind of
[1:20] doctors. But I personally am not a
[1:22] doctor, not an expert on health. And I feel like even my
[1:25] assistant listening to this right now because she actually
[1:29] is incredible with health coaching and everything like I'm
[1:32] like, please don't judge me Chloe, I love you.
[1:35] Also just going to plug her page because she is the best recipes
[1:38] ever. Not so Paleo.
[1:39] I'm going to drop it below, but she is the best recipes on her
[1:42] page. You should definitely check it
[1:43] out. Health Queen.
[1:44] Love her, but I'm not an expert, but I do have opinions because
[1:48] I'm a curious person who loves to learn about things.
[1:51] So I've listened to a lot of podcasts, I've watched a lot of
[1:54] YouTube videos with experts. I've read books and these are
[1:59] just kind of my health beliefs that I've personally come to and
[2:02] my health personal preferences. Like I said, everybody is
[2:06] different, So what works for me may not work for you.
[2:09] I'm not saying for you to take this advice and in fact, if you
[2:11] did take any of this advice, I really do encourage you to have
[2:14] discernment for you and your own body and do the research
[2:18] yourself. I think researching is lost art,
[2:21] especially with Chad GBT coming in.
[2:22] But the truth is like Chad GBT low key makes it easier than
[2:25] ever to actually find information, which is amazing.
[2:30] So I would do research yourself for anything that you may apply
[2:34] to your own life before moving forward.
[2:36] But let's get into it. OK, I'm Kayla Rose.
[2:39] This is skinny to Bing. Make sure to just hit the follow
[2:42] button, hit the subscribe button.
[2:44] If you're on Spotify, go ahead, comment below if you resonate
[2:47] with any of these things or if you disagree, 'cause let's
[2:49] create a world where we can have like healthy disagreement over
[2:52] things because that opens up conversation.
[2:55] And as we open up conversation, that actually leads to more
[2:58] truth and more integrity, so and more alignment.
[3:01] So I think it's important for us to be able to disagree with each
[3:04] other. So I'm totally open to having a
[3:06] conversation as long as it's respectful.
[3:08] And yeah, let's strip down and dive in.
[3:11] Share this on Instagram, tag me at Sunday's KK at Skinny Dipping
[3:15] Diaries because it really does help me and the podcast and the
[3:18] community. If yeah, you share it just
[3:21] boosts it and shows people that you like listening.
[3:24] So yeah, let's turn plan and dive in.
[3:26] I'm excited. OK, number one, I have 8 things
[3:30] written down. We'll see if other things come
[3:32] up. But number one, healthy eating
[3:34] is so important. Like for me, I've always eaten
[3:36] really clean, but I've learned, you know, through especially
[3:40] talking to people with mental health struggles around eating,
[3:43] that healthy eating is important, but stressing out
[3:48] about what you ate or what you will eat and having a
[3:51] perfectionist mindset around it is more unhealthy than just
[3:55] eating the goddamn burger. And for me, I'm just going to
[4:00] talk with I 'cause I don't know everybody else's life or their
[4:04] body. But for me personally, I noticed
[4:06] it is actually worse on my stomach to be stressed, which
[4:11] creates cortisol in my body, which really, you know, being
[4:14] stressed over what to eat or when to eat or if what I'm
[4:18] eating is healthy enough for me. I like to eat healthy, but I
[4:22] also like to have balance and realize sometimes I just need to
[4:24] feed myself and I need to not stress out about what I'm
[4:27] feeding myself because the emotional stress is causing more
[4:31] inflammation than the actual food sometimes.
[4:33] And that emotional stress leading to that inflammation,
[4:36] you know, inflammation is what causes disease and sickness and
[4:39] just your gut not being so happy with you.
[4:43] So for me personally, I like to eat healthy, but I've learned to
[4:46] create this balance where I actually have trained my taste
[4:50] buds to like eating healthy. But I still will always eat the
[4:54] dessert. I'll always eat the burger and
[4:57] I'll make sure that I'm fed. And for me personally, like I
[5:01] struggle with eating in the morning sometimes I think a lot
[5:04] of people aren't hungry in the morning and you know, that can
[5:08] lead to stress. But also I think it's just, you
[5:10] know, our body needs some time to wake up.
[5:12] But I know that I need to eat protein before I have caffeine.
[5:16] And because of that, you know, I used to have like avocado toast
[5:22] with eggs and that was like my go to meal and I just like got
[5:25] so sick of it. And I honestly got the egg ick
[5:27] and I was like like, I don't really like eggs anymore, even
[5:30] though they are a good form of protein.
[5:33] I've realized, OK, I was not eating breakfast because I felt
[5:37] like I had to have protein in my breakfast.
[5:39] And then I was just ending up like forgetting to eat or
[5:42] getting anxious about it. And the truth is I've been just
[5:46] feeding myself like this sourdough English muffin from
[5:48] the farmers market with this like whipped local honey
[5:53] cinnamon butter that me and my boyfriend made.
[5:55] And it's been so simple in the morning.
[5:58] And the truth is, it's been better for me to just be like,
[6:00] I'm not going to stress out about having protein in my meal
[6:03] and eating healthy because right now I'm in a season where I just
[6:05] need to kind of eat. And knowing that there will be
[6:09] another season again that I go into eating really healthy
[6:11] breakfast and I go through that cycle again.
[6:14] And just honoring whatever season and chapter and cycle
[6:17] that I'm in is really important for me.
[6:18] And what it's made me realize is just like, eat the damn toast
[6:22] rather than overthinking about it.
[6:24] For myself personally, it's like rather than overthinking and
[6:27] then not eating, 'cause I need protein and I want it to be
[6:29] healthy and everything. Perfectionism being controlling.
[6:33] No, just eat the goddamn toast. Feed yourself, girl.
[6:36] I get hangry. So I realized that healthy
[6:40] eating is so important and it's something I value and something
[6:44] I always consciously choose when I can.
[6:47] And at the same time I realize it's not worth stressing over
[6:49] what I'm eating, so I just don't.
[6:51] And yeah, OK #2 you couldn't pay me to take birth control again,
[6:58] is what I wrote down. This is for me personally.
[7:02] And, you know, everybody is so incredibly different.
[7:05] I'm not going to sit here and tell you that birth control is
[7:07] the devil like some other Wellness people will.
[7:09] I'm just going to tell you what it did for me personally.
[7:12] For me personally, it killed my libido.
[7:14] Libido being, you know, your sexual desire.
[7:17] And I lost my period about 7 years into taking my birth
[7:23] control. I was pretty irresponsible with
[7:25] it and would like skip periods. So definitely on me for that.
[7:28] I need to take accountability for that aspect.
[7:30] But it did ruin my libido, which is it's known to do for so many
[7:33] women and so many people who take birth control or have a
[7:38] period. And yeah, I absolutely murdered
[7:41] my libido and I didn't want to have sex with my partner and it
[7:44] was my birth control because I've been off it three years now
[7:48] and she's finally back, baby, after healing my hormones for
[7:53] three years. Like I have my libido again,
[7:56] like I'm sexually charged again. And it feels so good because I
[7:59] wasn't for so long and kind of felt like I was broken and it
[8:03] really was just my hormones just being so suffocated and so
[8:09] suppressed by birth control. Because the truth is, what I
[8:11] have learned from the book The 5th Vital Sign is that your
[8:15] birth control actually creates like a fake period.
[8:18] It's not your real menstrual cycle.
[8:20] It's a fake forced period. And for me personally, I never
[8:24] want to cut my body off from my natural rhythms ever again
[8:28] because I've realized that my menstrual cycle is so the way
[8:33] that my soul communicates to my body and it is a spiritual
[8:37] experience every month going through the four phases, Truly
[8:40] as a woman, I've realized it allows me to up level and
[8:44] alchemize so much faster because I am on my natural menstrual
[8:49] cycle and I am synced up with the moon.
[8:52] We love the wind. I love the wind so much, but I'm
[8:56] synced up with the moon. I ovulate on the full moon, I
[8:58] bleed on the new moon. I've been the opposite way
[9:01] before. But I think depending where
[9:03] you're at in life, it changes. And right now I ovulate on the
[9:06] full moon, which I have a lot of energy during those times.
[9:10] But for me personally, like I love being in tune with my
[9:13] natural cycles and my natural rhythms and I feel so much
[9:16] healthier. My body off of birth control and
[9:18] my libido has returned. But with that all being said,
[9:21] there is nuance to all of this because I do believe in birth
[9:24] control when it comes to the societal structure and actual
[9:30] legislation. Like I personally don't want to
[9:32] take birth control for me and for my body.
[9:34] I do believe everybody should have accessibility to either
[9:37] affordable or free birth control.
[9:41] I just definitely stand by that it should be a choice and that
[9:44] choice should be protected. And that birth control is
[9:47] ultimately down to the individual who is taking it.
[9:50] I don't personally like it. You couldn't pay me to take it
[9:52] again. But I do feel like our rights
[9:54] around having birth control should be highly protected.
[9:56] And also everything around birth control should be studied way
[10:00] way, way, way way more because they know.
[10:04] They know these things happen. You lose your libido, your
[10:07] emotions are suppressed. Yeah, they know these things,
[10:13] but they just give it to you without explaining it to you at
[10:17] all. They gave it to me when I was 17
[10:18] without telling me at all what the effects could be.
[10:21] So that's not cool. That's not cool.
[10:24] We don't like that. But yeah, those are my thoughts
[10:27] on birth control #3 these are my go to supplements because
[10:31] everybody's always asking what are my go to supplements?
[10:34] I've realized for myself personally that tinctures work
[10:38] best for me. I do not like pill supplements.
[10:40] They make me feel nauseous, they make me feel sick, and they've
[10:43] shown to not even have a good absorption rate in your body.
[10:46] So for me personally, I use tinctures and that's the way
[10:49] that I get any supplements. I am a believer that you know a
[10:53] lot of things you should be able to get from your diet.
[10:55] But I think because of society and the way food is transpired,
[10:59] it's OK to take some supplements.
[11:01] But for me personally, I don't like to overdo it because I
[11:04] think that's not healthy either. Kind of being addicted to that
[11:08] and needing that and not being able to be like, OK, what does
[11:10] my body need? But I have a couple things that
[11:12] I love to take and I take them very intentionally.
[11:16] And I think having three things is like the perfect number.
[11:19] I think anything more than 3 is a little too extreme.
[11:22] I love colidosol silver. This is my go to for immunity.
[11:26] Don't ask me why. Don't ask me to tell you about
[11:28] the science. I don't fucking know.
[11:29] But Colidosol silver, the liquid tincture, you hold it under your
[11:32] tongue for 30 seconds. Literally.
[11:35] I don't know if I've got I don't even I want to knock on wood,
[11:38] but I don't think I've gotten sick since I've started taking
[11:40] that. Like it is so incredible for
[11:43] your immune system. It's also incredible for like
[11:45] wounds. I've heard if I feel like I'm
[11:48] getting a little scratchiness in my throat, I'll like let it sit
[11:51] on my lymph nodes in my throat and I feel like it literally
[11:55] does de inflamed them. So that's my go to.
[11:58] I also take Kick ass immunity which is a tincture that you can
[12:02] probably get at any health food store near you.
[12:05] Kick ass immunity is my fave when I feel something strongly
[12:07] coming on. I'll take that like multiple
[12:10] times a day if I wasn't in the sun so much.
[12:14] I actually have amazing vitamin D levels from being born and
[12:16] raised in Hawaii. But if I wasn't in the sun as
[12:19] much, the number one thing I would recommend for people to
[12:21] take is vitamin D supplements of some sort.
[12:24] A tincture would be my preference.
[12:26] But I definitely think that vitamin D is huge just for your
[12:30] mood. And if you struggle with
[12:31] depression, you should definitely be taking vitamin D.
[12:34] It's just so big with our emotional regulation and our
[12:36] mood and how we feel about ourselves.
[12:38] So get on that Vitamin DI, don't take it.
[12:40] But if I wasn't in the sun all the time, I would.
[12:44] The other thing that I really like is having Real Salt with
[12:49] your waters. I do salt with like lemon, but
[12:51] my friends been having me like take little shots of salt
[12:53] because we don't realize that we're sweating out so much
[12:57] sodium in our body that we're losing so much sodium every time
[13:01] that we work out and we're trying to hydrate ourselves with
[13:03] water. But we what we need to hydrate
[13:05] ourselves with sometimes is actually electrolytes like
[13:08] sodium. So I think Real Salt is the best
[13:11] way to go. None of like the shitty
[13:13] electrolyte packets with all of the junk in it.
[13:15] I just like Real Salt. I think it's literally the
[13:18] company's called like Real Salt or Celtic salt is good too.
[13:22] I also think for me, I like using herbal teas.
[13:24] That's what I've been getting into recently and that's been
[13:27] really helpful as well as like my saffron drink that I talked
[13:29] about last week. I absolutely love.
[13:31] It's a Ken Euphorks drink and for me, saffron just really
[13:34] boosts my mood. So I think saffron is absolutely
[13:37] incredible if you're looking for something with your mental
[13:39] health. And in the past when I've been
[13:40] really low with my mental health, something that I'll take
[13:43] is like Altheanine, which helps with anxiety.
[13:45] And also I'll take 5H HTP or HTP 5.
[13:49] And I do this because it really helps with the serotonin
[13:52] production in your body. So yeah, for me personally, when
[13:57] I've had low seasons where I feel like I'm in a dark night of
[13:59] a soul, I will take those and those are pills.
[14:03] But right now I'm not really in that period.
[14:04] So I'm just taking my go to tinctures, mainly my TS and my
[14:08] colitis silver and my salt. OK #4 Skin care is what we put
[14:14] in our body. This has to do with your skin
[14:17] and my health beliefs around your skin.
[14:19] For me, I feel like the way that I eat really impacts my skin,
[14:23] how glowy it looks, how clear it looks.
[14:25] And yeah, I just noticed that skin care is also what we put in
[14:29] our body. And my facial girl always says
[14:31] that. And also vice versa.
[14:35] What we put in our skin goes into our body.
[14:37] So I'm not using anything like super chemically to put on my
[14:42] face. I know it's different if
[14:43] somebody has certain kinds of acne that maybe, you know, it
[14:48] does get cleared up with more scientific type medical skin
[14:53] care. But for me personally, because I
[14:55] don't struggle with that, I really like to keep it super
[14:58] simple. I use Evan Healey right now and
[15:00] they're just an amazing natural brand that I absolutely love.
[15:03] And yeah, I don't know, I try not to have like, I'm not like
[15:08] super strict about it, but I try not to have like super gross
[15:12] additives in my food at all. So it's like, why would I put
[15:16] all of that in my skin if it's just going to go in my body?
[15:20] That's kind of where my head is at with all of that.
[15:23] OK #5 is my fave saltwater sunshine movement is the Holy
[15:28] Trinity. Saltwater sunshine movement is
[15:32] the Holy Trinity. This is where I feel the
[15:33] healthiest, the most glowing, the most beautiful.
[15:36] This is where my gut feels the best.
[15:38] It's like saltwater and sunshine is literally everything.
[15:41] When people are like, what's your health routine?
[15:42] I'm like saltwater and sunshine. If I'm sick, I go to the
[15:45] saltwater and I physically like inhale the ocean.
[15:48] I know that might be so silly, but I'm like trying to clear my
[15:51] nasal cavities. And then sunshine is so
[15:54] incredibly healing. Like I said, the vitamin D
[15:56] before is such an important vitamin for you to get.
[15:59] We love sunshine. Sunshine is so incredibly
[16:03] healing. And then of course, movement.
[16:05] Movement just has been proven and shown scientifically to
[16:09] boost your mood. And it's a healer for anxiety
[16:12] and a healer for depression. They've just shown that.
[16:14] So salt water, sunshine and movement are my go TOS.
[16:19] Number six, that wind came back. Number six of my health personal
[16:25] preferences, Protein before caffeine.
[16:27] I don't always do it, but I know that my body is happy when I
[16:31] listen. Protein before caffeine, it's
[16:34] true. It's so incredibly important to
[16:38] make sure you're setting your gut microbe up, to make sure
[16:41] you're setting your gut microbiome up for the day in the
[16:43] healthiest, best way. Yeah, take care of yourself
[16:46] because 90% of your serotonin is actually created in your gut,
[16:50] serotonin being your kind of happy chemical.
[16:52] So when your gut is happy, your mind and your mental health is
[16:55] also happy. It's all connected #7 of my
[16:59] health personal preferences is that I've noticed that my blood
[17:04] sugar really deeply impacts my mood.
[17:05] So if I like forget to eat and then my blood sugar drops, it
[17:11] makes me crazy. Like if it feels like I'm
[17:13] getting hijacked, like Kayla is no longer in the room with us,
[17:16] like when my blood sugar drops, I literally feel incredibly
[17:19] hijacked. So for me, like having really
[17:21] healthy snacks like chomps around, which is just like
[17:23] protein or like the Maui venison sticks are so incredibly good.
[17:27] I know they're expanding. They're not just here, they're a
[17:29] lot of places. All the butterflies.
[17:32] Sorry I got distracted or having like some sort of protein bar I
[17:38] feel like is really great. I just need to like have snacks
[17:41] around me. I love chips and salsa.
[17:42] I don't know, I just need to feed myself like every three
[17:46] hours pretty much. And I just notice how my blood
[17:49] sugar impacts me and also impacts my period.
[17:51] So I've noticed that if I let my blood sugar be super up and down
[17:55] spiking during the month, my period's a lot worse and my
[17:58] luteal face is a lot harsher with my emotions.
[18:01] But if I stay consistent for a couple months, taking care of my
[18:04] blood sugar and eating high protein and just really feeding
[18:08] myself and not letting my blood sugar drop like that, what I've
[18:11] realized is that my period is better, my luteal face is
[18:14] better. I don't feel as anxious.
[18:17] Yeah, it's just overall a lot better my entire health,
[18:21] including my menstrual health when my blood sugar is taken
[18:24] care of. And I just try to keep it
[18:25] balanced and, and I have to just stay conscious and mindful and
[18:28] feed myself often so that that doesn't happen.
[18:32] And #8 is that blue light is damaging.
[18:35] You can pull up a million studies to prove this.
[18:39] And of course, like, I don't do great with this all the time.
[18:41] But I do have really good blue light glasses.
[18:43] I think it's called solar ray light.
[18:46] And they're red, blue light glasses.
[18:49] And you need to do your research around blue light glasses and
[18:52] make sure they actually work because the cheap ones don't
[18:54] actually work. Like, do your research, get ones
[18:56] that actually work for you because, yeah, it's impacting
[18:59] your sleep. And it's impacting your brain
[19:03] and I mean your brain and your sleep.
[19:05] Those are like the two most important things for your
[19:08] health. Honestly, I love this little
[19:10] short episode with you guys. The video kind of cut off my
[19:12] phone died. But I love you guys so much.
[19:15] And let me know your thoughts on this.
[19:17] I mean, if you guys have any questions too about like other
[19:20] personal preferences I have. Oh, this is another personal
[19:24] preference I have that I absolutely love is I'm trying to
[19:27] switch out all my clothes that are like nylon and polyester
[19:32] like that is literally plastic going into your skin anytime you
[19:36] wear that honestly. And I've been trying to buy way
[19:39] more like organic and there are good like organic bamboo and
[19:42] organic cotton cheaper underwears on Amazon.
[19:46] So I think there is an affordable way to do that.
[19:48] I think there is, you know, a common misconception that it's,
[19:55] you know, super expensive to shop organic, which it is for a
[19:58] lot of brands, but not always. And you can always buy second
[20:01] hand, do a little deep pop, but just making sure something's
[20:04] like 100% cotton or silk or yeah, I just think that it's so
[20:11] incredibly important or bamboo. And I just love wearing brands
[20:16] that feel good to my skin and good to my body.
[20:18] And that's just like another health shake I have.
[20:21] But also I'm not like super strict about any of these
[20:24] things. I think the key is to have these
[20:25] values and have these standards and follow them, but also not to
[20:31] stress out about them or not to make it your whole personality.
[20:34] Like these are just things that I personally live by and I'm not
[20:36] going to judge anybody if they don't do it.
[20:40] And that's just like something that I live by is like
[20:42] everybody's personal preferences for their health and their body
[20:45] is 100% their choice on what they should do.
[20:48] So these are mine. I hope you guys enjoy them.
[20:51] I'm going to go pick up some Masha right now for my retreat.
[20:55] That's where I'm off to. And I'm going to go on a little
[20:57] solo sunset date. So happy skinny dipping summer.
[21:00] Bye, guys.
