[0:01] Speaker 1: The countdown to the Fernando Mendoza era in Las Vegas
[0:05] Speaker 1: is on if fin fact, the Raiders do what we
[0:09] Speaker 1: all expect. Here what GM John Spytech said today about
[0:12] Speaker 1: their plans at number one and beyond. In just nine days,
[0:17] Speaker 1: all the top draft prospects.
[0:18] Speaker 2: We'll have a home. Our guy Adam Rank joins us
[0:21] Speaker 2: tonight to.
[0:21] Speaker 1: Break down his new mock draft, which comes with some
[0:25] Speaker 1: unusual twits. We'll also talk with forty nine Ers star
[0:29] Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey, who stops by tonight to speak on the
[0:33] Speaker 1: arrival of Mike Evans, this year's top running backs, and
[0:37] Speaker 1: much more. Welcome inside with the Insiders alongside Ian Rappaport
[0:42] Speaker 1: and Judy Battista. I am Tom Pelisero. Nine days now
[0:46] Speaker 1: until the NFL Draft, which means that nine days from
[0:50] Speaker 1: right about now, the Las Vegas Raiders will fish sat
[0:54] Speaker 1: be on the clock. It has been one of the
[0:56] Speaker 1: worst kept secrets in the NFL for quite some time,
[1:00] Speaker 1: and April twenty third should be a momentous stay in
[1:04] Speaker 1: Las Vegas, whether they draft for Nanda Mendoza or somehow
[1:08] Speaker 1: shock the world. Here's what GM John Spytech said today
[1:11] Speaker 1: about his general draft philosophy.
[1:14] Speaker 3: I think it starts with we are we going to
[1:16] Speaker 3: make the pick, and if there's a player that stands
[1:20] Speaker 3: out that we feel it's not worth losing, it's not
[1:23] Speaker 3: worth even picking up the phone, then we'll just make
[1:25] Speaker 3: the pick.
[1:26] Speaker 2: But if it's a.
[1:27] Speaker 3: Player that we're not as excited about, or there's a
[1:29] Speaker 3: group of players that we would love to pick from
[1:32] Speaker 3: and we can get value for that, then we're certainly
[1:35] Speaker 3: open to listening to that. So I think when you
[1:37] Speaker 3: go on the clock, unless you're super convicted that you're
[1:40] Speaker 3: making the pick, you kind of just sit there and
[1:42] Speaker 3: wait for a little bit and see if your phone
[1:44] Speaker 3: will ring. And sometimes you can get really good trade
[1:46] Speaker 3: offers and maybe you didn't expect, and other times your
[1:49] Speaker 3: phone doesn't ring, so then you just pick.
[1:51] Speaker 2: But we try to be open minded.
[1:53] Speaker 3: We try to give ourselves as much time, you know,
[1:55] Speaker 3: as allotted to make the best decision for the Raiders.
[1:58] Speaker 3: And you know, we trade it back twice in the
[2:00] Speaker 3: second round last year and accumulated a bunch of what
[2:02] Speaker 3: we thought was really good draft capital, and we'd be
[2:04] Speaker 3: open to doing that again.
[2:05] Speaker 1: Now the Raiders have had over three months to get
[2:07] Speaker 1: convicted about what they'll do at number one overall since
[2:10] Speaker 1: they clinched that pick late last season. Ian there is
[2:13] Speaker 1: a line there is one player above all else in
[2:15] Speaker 1: Fernando Mendoza, who, presuming that he is in fact the selection,
[2:18] Speaker 1: will be just part of a really important draft class
[2:21] Speaker 1: there in Las Vegas.
[2:22] Speaker 4: Really important draftcuss, really important offseason for Las Vegas, and
[2:26] Speaker 4: they really feel, just based on the players they added
[2:28] Speaker 4: in free agency, that this is an atmosphere where a
[2:31] Speaker 4: number one overall pick quarterback can come in and learn
[2:35] Speaker 4: and be successful.
[2:36] Speaker 2: And it might not be right away. There is a
[2:37] Speaker 2: real chance, and John spy.
[2:38] Speaker 4: Tech talked about it at his press conference today as well,
[2:41] Speaker 4: there's a chance that Frenanda Mendoza does not end up
[2:44] Speaker 4: as the starting quarterback of the Raiders immediately. As spy
[2:47] Speaker 4: Tech said, is really hard for a young quarterback to
[2:50] Speaker 4: come in and be successful if he has to learn
[2:52] Speaker 4: at the beginning, if you have to learn all year,
[2:54] Speaker 4: that's fine, because this is about the future, not this year.
[2:58] Speaker 4: I will say that while Tech Judy was right. While
[3:01] Speaker 4: they are going to wait for the phone to ring
[3:03] Speaker 4: and they are going to weigh offers and really see
[3:05] Speaker 4: what is out there, this feels like a player to
[3:08] Speaker 4: me that the Raiders are convicted over his visit went
[3:11] Speaker 4: really well. They left his visit being like, all right,
[3:14] Speaker 4: we know that this is the guy. Really liked the intelligence,
[3:18] Speaker 4: really like the intangibles. I'm sure they'll wait the a
[3:21] Speaker 4: lot of time. Hopefully they do so all of us
[3:23] Speaker 4: can get on camera. But this is expected to be
[3:25] Speaker 4: Fernando mendoz in, which should be a new era.
[3:28] Speaker 2: For the Raiders.
[3:29] Speaker 5: Well, it would shock the NFL world if they don't
[3:31] Speaker 5: have a conviction about Fernando Mendoza at this point to
[3:34] Speaker 5: end by next Thursday, and if he is not the
[3:37] Speaker 5: number one pick. I too was thinking about the setup
[3:40] Speaker 5: for him. This is a much better situation than the
[3:43] Speaker 5: one cam Ward was in at this time last year,
[3:45] Speaker 5: when he was joining a team that simply did not
[3:48] Speaker 5: have much on the roster. He also was joining a
[3:51] Speaker 5: team that had a coach who was already skating on
[3:54] Speaker 5: thin ice. This is a much better setup, much more
[3:57] Speaker 5: favorable for Fernando Mendoza to have success and to grow
[4:02] Speaker 5: in his career. As you mentioned, they have Kirk Cousins,
[4:05] Speaker 5: so it's entirely possible he will not even be the
[4:07] Speaker 5: starting quarterback immediately. But they also did a lot of
[4:11] Speaker 5: work on that roster. This is a better roster than
[4:14] Speaker 5: how the Raiders looked at the end of last season.
[4:17] Speaker 2: A really favorable position. If it's Fernando Mendoza, it's.
[4:21] Speaker 5: Going to be a good situation for him.
[4:23] Speaker 1: Not a lot of drama at number one, plenty of
[4:25] Speaker 1: drama elsewhere in the top ten, including at number five.
[4:28] Speaker 1: That's where we find the New York Giants, who also
[4:31] Speaker 1: has some things to consider potentially in the coming days
[4:34] Speaker 1: regarding their standout defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence recently requested a trade,
[4:39] Speaker 1: wants an upgraded contract.
[4:41] Speaker 2: GM Joe shaens Bok Today.
[4:44] Speaker 6: I know the hot topic will be, you know, some
[4:47] Speaker 6: of the hot topic other than the draft will be Dexter.
[4:50] Speaker 6: Just a quick quick update on that for you guys.
[4:53] Speaker 6: We've had good conversations with his representatives throughout the last
[4:58] Speaker 6: five or six days. Coach Dawn, myself, we've all been
[5:01] Speaker 6: a communication, you know, trying to find some resolution. I
[5:05] Speaker 6: echo what Coach said last week. You know, we'd like
[5:07] Speaker 6: for Dexter to be here, and at some point we'll
[5:10] Speaker 6: come to a resolution here. I would always like more picks,
[5:12] Speaker 6: but it would be situational. We're not going to walk
[5:14] Speaker 6: away from an impact player or a good player that
[5:18] Speaker 6: we're convicted on that we like, you know, to pick up,
[5:20] Speaker 6: you know, an extra pick or a couple of extra picks.
[5:23] Speaker 6: So case by case basis, if there's you know, if
[5:26] Speaker 6: you move back three or four spots and there's five
[5:28] Speaker 6: five guys, you like you an extra pick.
[5:29] Speaker 7: Absolutely.
[5:30] Speaker 6: If it's if it's a guy you're convicted on, and
[5:32] Speaker 6: you know, maybe there's a big drop off from let's
[5:34] Speaker 6: say it's a it's called corner and there's a big
[5:36] Speaker 6: drop off maybe two rounds to the next corner, you
[5:40] Speaker 6: maybe don't roll the dice in those situations. You just
[5:42] Speaker 6: take the player, you know, so you don't miss out.
[5:43] Speaker 6: So certainly would like more picks, but you know, don't
[5:47] Speaker 6: want to walk away from good players either.
[5:49] Speaker 1: Let's welcome in Brian Baldinger to the conversation here. Judy,
[5:52] Speaker 1: you were at that media conference today. What were your takeaways?
[5:56] Speaker 5: Well, my first takeaway is he opened the press conference.
[5:58] Speaker 5: Joe Shane opened the press conference saying they have had good,
[6:01] Speaker 5: productive recent conversations with Dexter Lawrence's representatives and they still
[6:06] Speaker 5: want him on the team. He was asked about the
[6:08] Speaker 5: possibility of a trade. First of all, he said, there's
[6:11] Speaker 5: no deadline. He's under contract for two years. So the
[6:13] Speaker 5: idea that they would have to make a trade right
[6:16] Speaker 5: now in the next week before the draft, no, he
[6:19] Speaker 5: projected that idea. He did say it's his responsibility to
[6:22] Speaker 5: listen to phone calls. That's his job, so he didn't
[6:26] Speaker 5: slam the door entirely on trading him. But again he
[6:28] Speaker 5: started out by saying they've had really good conversations and
[6:31] Speaker 5: they hope to keep Dexter Lawrence on the team. As
[6:35] Speaker 5: for the draft itself, Joe Shane said they've already received
[6:38] Speaker 5: not surprisingly, they have received calls from some teams that
[6:41] Speaker 5: might be looking to move up. He said they would
[6:44] Speaker 5: not make a trade before they are on the clock
[6:47] Speaker 5: on Thursday, and that certainly indicates that there are a
[6:50] Speaker 5: handful of players that they would not move out of
[6:52] Speaker 5: the number five pick if those players are still on
[6:55] Speaker 5: the board, players that they would take, and otherwise they
[6:58] Speaker 5: would be open to business if those players are off
[7:01] Speaker 5: the board.
[7:02] Speaker 8: Balding Judy, the John Harbaugh era is new, and for
[7:07] Speaker 8: the players it might be shockingly new. John has always
[7:12] Speaker 8: had some of the hardest training camps. He's going to
[7:14] Speaker 8: challenge these players mentally, He's going to challenge them physically.
[7:18] Speaker 8: So whoever walks through that door should they keep the
[7:20] Speaker 8: fifth pick.
[7:22] Speaker 2: They've got to be a leader. They have had to
[7:24] Speaker 2: have a.
[7:25] Speaker 8: Hard upbringing, whatever college they went to, they've had to
[7:29] Speaker 8: be have all kinds of ability. When I think of
[7:33] Speaker 8: a guy like Caleb Downs, who started for Nick Saban
[7:37] Speaker 8: at Alabama as an eighteen year old freshman and led
[7:39] Speaker 8: the team in tackles that year, won a national championship
[7:42] Speaker 8: in Ohio State the next year, I can't help but
[7:45] Speaker 8: think Caleb Downs in a Giants uniform is.
[7:48] Speaker 2: What the Giants need.
[7:49] Speaker 8: They need a leader, a tough guy, a captain. That's
[7:52] Speaker 8: what they have to start building here for this defense
[7:55] Speaker 8: of Denard Wilson and what John Harball has to start
[7:58] Speaker 8: establishing ian if they want to turn things around here
[8:02] Speaker 8: immediately up in New York.
[8:03] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, look, it's a number of five pick
[8:06] Speaker 4: and you know, usually Baldy, these are reserved for premium positions.
[8:09] Speaker 4: This is just a weird year where you have some excellent,
[8:12] Speaker 4: excellent football players who do not play premium positions. You
[8:15] Speaker 4: mentioned one Downs is one you know, what do the
[8:18] Speaker 4: Giants do that I want to go to what Joe
[8:20] Speaker 4: Shane talked about the possibility of them trading out with
[8:23] Speaker 4: This seems to be a draft where let's say there
[8:25] Speaker 4: are sixteen seventeen maybe true first rounders by grade. Most
[8:29] Speaker 4: of the teams I speak with think there's probably five
[8:32] Speaker 4: or so elite, elite players that maybe it drops off
[8:35] Speaker 4: a little bit. The Giants are at five. So if
[8:37] Speaker 4: there's one player that other teams around ten, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve,
[8:42] Speaker 4: right up to the Cowboys, if they think they can
[8:44] Speaker 4: get one of those elite players, we may in fact.
[8:47] Speaker 2: See a big trade.
[8:48] Speaker 4: Whether that's r bel Reese, whether that's Bane, I mean,
[8:51] Speaker 4: whether that's Sunny Styles down There's plenty of options here
[8:54] Speaker 4: about who teams could fall in love with. But it
[8:57] Speaker 4: does seem like the Giants are going to have the
[8:59] Speaker 4: opportunity to trade out for some premium draft pick compensation,
[9:03] Speaker 4: if that is in the end what they want to do.
[9:06] Speaker 1: Baldy Dudemot move where you're back in a little bit
[9:08] Speaker 1: to talk about some high risk, high reward players in
[9:11] Speaker 1: this draft. Right now, let's stay in the NFC East
[9:14] Speaker 1: head over to Philadelphia, where yes, they've got some draft picks,
[9:17] Speaker 1: but all anybody really wants to know about is AJ Brown.
[9:21] Speaker 1: He remains a member of the football team that likely
[9:24] Speaker 1: will not change if it changes until after June one.
[9:28] Speaker 1: Give the Philadelphia media credit, they don't stop asking.
[9:31] Speaker 9: You mentioned the depth at wide receiver, you know, after
[9:34] Speaker 9: trading for Giggs and signing Hollywood and hospitalizing more, what
[9:39] Speaker 9: does that mean for a J Brown? Like do you
[9:42] Speaker 9: feel like if he is traded you have depth there
[9:45] Speaker 9: at wide receiver?
[9:47] Speaker 4: The odds are that I'm answering this question any different
[9:51] Speaker 4: than I answered anywhere else, Like really, like, do you
[9:53] Speaker 4: think that's like fifty percent?
[9:55] Speaker 2: Do you think that's seventy five percent?
[9:57] Speaker 7: I need.
[10:00] Speaker 1: Solid sense I already there from how we say, what
[10:02] Speaker 1: are the odds? I answer this differently while at the
[10:04] Speaker 1: same time answering it is a little bit differently. Still
[10:07] Speaker 1: nothing definitive ian because of the contractual and salary cap
[10:11] Speaker 1: implications of trading AJ Brown prior to June one, Where
[10:14] Speaker 1: do we stand here? Knowing that the draft is normally
[10:17] Speaker 1: a pivot point for teams to begin to put together
[10:20] Speaker 1: their rosters and maybe fill some of the very holes
[10:22] Speaker 1: they otherwise might be filling with a guy like AJ Brown.
[10:25] Speaker 4: It feels sound like every off season there's something that
[10:27] Speaker 4: comes up where you're like, wow, this is actually not
[10:30] Speaker 4: really happened before in the NFL world, an almost unprecedented situation,
[10:34] Speaker 4: and that's where we are with AJ Brown. This is
[10:36] Speaker 4: not a situation of teams saying, all right, the draft
[10:38] Speaker 4: is coming, I gotta get my trade because I gotta
[10:40] Speaker 4: get the picks, or Okay, well it's not going to
[10:42] Speaker 4: be this draft, so I'm going to wait until right
[10:44] Speaker 4: before the season because it's going to be next year's
[10:46] Speaker 4: draft picks that we're going to be trading.
[10:47] Speaker 2: No, this is one.
[10:49] Speaker 4: Where a trade, if it is going to happen, and
[10:51] Speaker 4: certainly there's a lot of evidence that eventually it is,
[10:54] Speaker 4: would have to happen after June first, because of the
[10:57] Speaker 4: salary cap ramifications for the egos that cuts the dead
[10:59] Speaker 4: cap money in half, and the fact that the picks
[11:02] Speaker 4: that you would be looking for would be twenty twenty
[11:05] Speaker 4: seven draft picks, which is considered by most people to
[11:08] Speaker 4: be a better draft, a deeper draft, and that probably.
[11:11] Speaker 2: Is what the Eagles would want anyway.
[11:13] Speaker 4: So really, what has happened is we're all just kind
[11:16] Speaker 4: of standing around looking at each other and waiting for
[11:18] Speaker 4: this trade that in the end probably will happen. At
[11:21] Speaker 4: least that's what most people that I speak to believe.
[11:24] Speaker 4: It just can't happen yet, so you're left having to
[11:26] Speaker 4: awkwardly ask the GM, hey, you know this thing that
[11:29] Speaker 4: we all know may or may not have, but can
[11:31] Speaker 4: I ask you about it in a different way? And
[11:32] Speaker 4: he's got to go no. But that answers it in
[11:35] Speaker 4: a different way anyway, Genny.
[11:36] Speaker 2: Which brings us to the draft. A few things.
[11:39] Speaker 5: On the draft, Howie said they as always go best
[11:43] Speaker 5: player available. He also specifically was asked about could you
[11:46] Speaker 5: draft a wide receiver given all the circumstances, and he
[11:49] Speaker 5: didn't shoot that idea down. He also said that they
[11:53] Speaker 5: do not have thirty two first round grades on this group.
[11:56] Speaker 5: That is certainly not unusual, and it is especially not
[12:00] Speaker 5: usual in.
[12:01] Speaker 2: This draft class.
[12:02] Speaker 5: We know that Howie Roseman is traditionally an aggressive general manager.
[12:07] Speaker 5: Does that mean that he could go up the board?
[12:09] Speaker 5: Could he go back if by the time they pick
[12:11] Speaker 5: at twenty three they don't like what they have available
[12:14] Speaker 5: to them and accumulate more picks. Certainly we know how
[12:17] Speaker 5: he is a wheeler and dealer. They are rarely boring.
[12:21] Speaker 5: During the draft. We will see what they do. But
[12:24] Speaker 5: at that spot twenty three, that's sort of a gray
[12:29] Speaker 5: area in the first round. I think, as you were
[12:32] Speaker 5: mentioning before, Ian, there's premium level players at the very top,
[12:37] Speaker 5: and then there's a middle level that I think the
[12:39] Speaker 5: league is like, you could get any one of these
[12:41] Speaker 5: guys and maybe move back and pick up some picks
[12:43] Speaker 5: at the same time.
[12:44] Speaker 1: Nine more days until we have answers at least in
[12:47] Speaker 1: Round one next Thursday night. Round one right here on
[12:50] Speaker 1: NFL Network.
[12:51] Speaker 4: So many big plays, so much to talk about with
[12:54] Speaker 4: our guest here on the inside is joining me.
[12:56] Speaker 2: Ian Rappaport.
[12:57] Speaker 4: That is Christian McCaffery, star running back for the San
[13:00] Speaker 4: Francisco forty nine ers. Christin, thank you so much for
[13:03] Speaker 4: joining us on the inside. We've got a lot to
[13:05] Speaker 4: get to, a lot of the football stuff, a lot
[13:07] Speaker 4: of draft stuff. But first you're sitting in front of
[13:09] Speaker 4: a US Bank locker. Tell us what you are doing
[13:13] Speaker 4: with US Bank?
[13:14] Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, this was an easy partnership for me.
[13:17] Speaker 10: You know, we have such busy lives as NFL players,
[13:19] Speaker 10: and you know you want to work with people who
[13:21] Speaker 10: make banking easier, not just for us as athletes, but
[13:24] Speaker 10: for the consumers of the world, from the small business
[13:27] Speaker 10: owners of the world, and you know, being a business
[13:29] Speaker 10: owner myself, it kind of fit perfectly because US bank
[13:32] Speaker 10: Smarty program, you know, it really makes it easy for
[13:35] Speaker 10: everybody to do so.
[13:36] Speaker 7: So it was an easy partnership for me and excited
[13:40] Speaker 7: to continue it.
[13:41] Speaker 4: You always have wide ranging things you do in life,
[13:44] Speaker 4: not just football, even though obviously what you do on
[13:46] Speaker 4: the football field is what people know you for. I
[13:49] Speaker 4: got some forty nine ers questions in a second, but
[13:51] Speaker 4: I want to start with the draft, obviously about a.
[13:54] Speaker 2: Little more than a week away.
[13:56] Speaker 4: There's a very real possibility that a running back gets
[13:58] Speaker 4: taken in the top five, could even be in the
[14:01] Speaker 4: top three. Jeremiah Love the Notre Dame star. Have you
[14:05] Speaker 4: seen much of him? Have you taken a look?
[14:07] Speaker 2: And if you have, what do you think?
[14:09] Speaker 7: Yeah, I've seen a bunch of them, you know.
[14:11] Speaker 10: I think when you watch him move, just at the
[14:13] Speaker 10: combine and all the different things, you can tell why
[14:16] Speaker 10: he's such a great player. But I think when you
[14:19] Speaker 10: watch his tape you find out that he kind of
[14:21] Speaker 10: has that extra juice, that stuff that you can't really coach,
[14:26] Speaker 10: and that's that's the vision, that's the contact balance, you know.
[14:30] Speaker 7: And you can tell the way his teammates talk about
[14:32] Speaker 7: him as well, which is cool.
[14:33] Speaker 10: I actually know his strength coach Notre Dame really well,
[14:37] Speaker 10: and he just raves about him. So you know, he's
[14:40] Speaker 10: a guy that I'm sure is going to have continued
[14:42] Speaker 10: success for however long he wants to play.
[14:44] Speaker 4: You know what's interesting when I talk to general managers
[14:47] Speaker 4: about him and I say, give me a comp you know,
[14:49] Speaker 4: it's not exactly it's Christian McCaffrey, But what people talk
[14:53] Speaker 4: about is the way that they envision using him is
[14:56] Speaker 4: similar to how the forty nine ers use you, which
[14:59] Speaker 4: is you. I think it's fair to say you are
[15:01] Speaker 4: as much a running back as you are a receiver.
[15:04] Speaker 4: You touch the ball a ton, You've never shied away
[15:06] Speaker 4: from just touches during a game. Do you see him
[15:09] Speaker 4: being capable of doing that, just catching the ball as
[15:13] Speaker 4: much as running it.
[15:14] Speaker 7: Well, I think he has the capability to do so.
[15:16] Speaker 8: Yeah.
[15:16] Speaker 10: I mean, I've been so lucky and blessed to have
[15:18] Speaker 10: great coaches who have been able to use me in
[15:20] Speaker 10: a bunch of different ways, and you know, he's a
[15:22] Speaker 10: guy that can so I think, you know, when you
[15:24] Speaker 10: have the ability and you pose that threat on defenses,
[15:29] Speaker 10: it can really open up a lot, and he's somebody
[15:31] Speaker 10: that can absolutely do that.
[15:32] Speaker 7: So I'm excited to see his future.
[15:34] Speaker 4: You are going on about a decade in the NFL,
[15:36] Speaker 4: which is a very long time, still going as strong
[15:39] Speaker 4: as you were when you came into the league as
[15:41] Speaker 4: a rookie. It is now April fourteenth, which is right
[15:44] Speaker 4: in the middle of the offseason. Have not started, you know,
[15:47] Speaker 4: teams have not really started conditioning. But you are someone
[15:50] Speaker 4: who always keeps yourself in shape basically, no matter what
[15:53] Speaker 4: we say on your social media, some of the various
[15:55] Speaker 4: workouts you do take us through this time of year.
[15:59] Speaker 4: What is it like for Christian McCaffrey. I mean, how
[16:02] Speaker 4: how active are you are? You literally working out as
[16:04] Speaker 4: if it's you know, August fifth, kind of what's it
[16:07] Speaker 4: like for you?
[16:08] Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, I think, well, you know, when you're
[16:10] Speaker 10: asked to do a lot, you know, you have to
[16:12] Speaker 10: do a lot in the off season, and it really
[16:13] Speaker 10: starts as soon as the season's over.
[16:15] Speaker 7: You kind of have to flush everything out that happened
[16:17] Speaker 7: over the last.
[16:18] Speaker 10: Season and and get back to building that base so
[16:20] Speaker 10: that you can withstand the storm that comes with playing
[16:24] Speaker 10: playing in the NFL. And so yeah, we're training really
[16:26] Speaker 10: hard right now. You know, there's there's really no day
[16:28] Speaker 10: where you're not doing something. It's you know, six seven
[16:31] Speaker 10: days a week. You know you're not you know, full
[16:33] Speaker 10: speed sprinting, cutting every day, but you know you're doing something,
[16:38] Speaker 10: and you're getting ready for OTAs. You're kind of respecting
[16:40] Speaker 10: that it's you know, it's not August yet. So there
[16:43] Speaker 10: are things that if they need to be tapered back on,
[16:46] Speaker 10: your tapering back on.
[16:47] Speaker 7: But I got really lucky. I have great.
[16:49] Speaker 10: Trainers and so I kind of just show up when
[16:51] Speaker 10: they tell me to show up, and whatever plan they
[16:53] Speaker 10: have me do for the day, I just listen. So
[16:56] Speaker 10: I'm excited about that because it takes a lot off
[16:58] Speaker 10: my plate.
[16:58] Speaker 4: So when they ask you to's all really really close
[17:01] Speaker 4: to the ground, are you like, well, this might hurt
[17:03] Speaker 4: and put me in kind of but I trust you guys,
[17:05] Speaker 4: I'll just walk in whatever, like give us a little
[17:07] Speaker 4: insight into what this is right here.
[17:09] Speaker 10: Those are called animal movements, So it's uh, I actually
[17:13] Speaker 10: got these from a bunch of UFC fighters way back
[17:15] Speaker 10: in the day. And it's a cool way to you know,
[17:18] Speaker 10: do a lot of strength through full range of motion
[17:20] Speaker 10: and flexibility exercises to kind of prep your joints and
[17:24] Speaker 10: weird angles that you're not used to doing, and so
[17:27] Speaker 10: those are those are really challenging, really fun, and it's
[17:31] Speaker 10: kind of taken the linear strength and conditioning aspect of
[17:35] Speaker 10: training and putting it into more of a global athletic movement,
[17:39] Speaker 10: learning how to fall, learning how to roll, using your
[17:43] Speaker 10: body at different angles, and they get really challenging and
[17:45] Speaker 10: really fun. There's a lot of people who have learned
[17:48] Speaker 10: them from who do them a lot better than me.
[17:50] Speaker 10: But I have a lot of fun doing it. So yeah,
[17:53] Speaker 10: that was that was part of it.
[17:54] Speaker 2: I love that you get hit from all angles.
[17:56] Speaker 4: You never know what strange position your body's going to
[17:58] Speaker 4: be and got to be ready for anything.
[17:59] Speaker 2: I like it.
[18:00] Speaker 4: The forty nine Ers, as always, we're active this offseason.
[18:04] Speaker 4: Mike Evans the biggest name free agent that the forty
[18:07] Speaker 4: nine er signed, actually one of the biggest free agents
[18:09] Speaker 4: to change teams in the NFL this year.
[18:12] Speaker 2: First of all, have you chatted with him?
[18:14] Speaker 4: And second of all, when you heard this was happening,
[18:17] Speaker 4: hopefully for my tweet, what was your reaction?
[18:19] Speaker 7: I was so fired up, man.
[18:20] Speaker 10: I think he's somebody that if you're a fan of football,
[18:25] Speaker 10: you've watched.
[18:26] Speaker 7: His entire career and it's hard not to like the guy.
[18:30] Speaker 7: He's a first ballot Hall of Famer.
[18:31] Speaker 10: He's somebody that, in my opinion, has never gotten enough credit.
[18:34] Speaker 7: And I think he plays that way. He plays with
[18:36] Speaker 7: a chip on his shoulder.
[18:38] Speaker 10: He's one of the best go ball runners in the
[18:40] Speaker 10: history of the NFL. He blocks his butt off, he's mean,
[18:46] Speaker 10: and he's the perfect fit for our offense.
[18:48] Speaker 8: Man.
[18:48] Speaker 10: I've just been such a fan of his from Afar
[18:50] Speaker 10: and the way he plays football, and so now to
[18:52] Speaker 10: get to play with him, to pick his brain on
[18:54] Speaker 10: a lot of stuff, you know. I think that's what
[18:56] Speaker 10: I'm excited about, is to learn from him and kind
[18:58] Speaker 10: of see what stuff he can bring to our team that,
[19:02] Speaker 10: you know, maybe we need. And to have a guy
[19:04] Speaker 10: like that who's experienced the NFL at every level is
[19:08] Speaker 10: super exciting.
[19:08] Speaker 7: So we're so fired up to have them.
[19:11] Speaker 2: A bit more. For you.
[19:12] Speaker 4: You know, the season you guys had last year was
[19:15] Speaker 4: actually really, really impressive. Just considering the sheer volume of
[19:19] Speaker 4: injuries you had obviously this year.
[19:21] Speaker 2: The hope is that everyone comes back healthy whenever.
[19:23] Speaker 4: We'll see when Kittle comes back, but you know he's
[19:25] Speaker 4: going to come back with a vengeance when he does.
[19:27] Speaker 2: What do you envision for the forty nine ers next season?
[19:30] Speaker 10: I think right now, man, we're just focused on the
[19:32] Speaker 10: time period that we're in. I think that's one team
[19:35] Speaker 10: are You know? One thing our team has done a
[19:37] Speaker 10: great job at is staying present. We have a team
[19:40] Speaker 10: of a lot of veterans, and a lot of people
[19:42] Speaker 10: might say that's a bad thing. I actually love it
[19:44] Speaker 10: because there's so much experience and there's so many guys
[19:47] Speaker 10: who have not just had a lot of success, but
[19:49] Speaker 10: it failed as well. And I think one of the
[19:51] Speaker 10: things we can all agree on is that each year
[19:54] Speaker 10: is a new year, and you have to start from scratch, and.
[19:57] Speaker 7: You know that starts early in the offseason.
[19:59] Speaker 10: And the you do that is you build your team,
[20:01] Speaker 10: the team that you're on now as best as you
[20:03] Speaker 10: can from from square one, as much as last season
[20:06] Speaker 10: or the season before.
[20:07] Speaker 7: That might have a little bit of an.
[20:10] Speaker 10: Effect, you know, we I think we all understand that
[20:13] Speaker 10: it takes a lot of work to get to where
[20:15] Speaker 10: you want to be, and that starts, really, you know,
[20:17] Speaker 10: when the season ends. And so I'm excited just to
[20:20] Speaker 10: be where we're at with this team, to find out
[20:22] Speaker 10: what we're made up, to go through some stuff during
[20:24] Speaker 10: OTAs and training camp, and then when the season hits,
[20:26] Speaker 10: you know, get the ball rolling.
[20:28] Speaker 2: We're excited to see all of it too.
[20:29] Speaker 4: Know you guys are going to put yourself in position
[20:31] Speaker 4: to be there at the end as you always do. Christian,
[20:34] Speaker 4: thank you very much for hanging out with us on
[20:36] Speaker 4: the Insiders.
[20:37] Speaker 2: Enjoy the rest of the offseason. Really appreciate you.
[20:39] Speaker 11: Man.
[20:40] Speaker 7: Appreciate it. Man, thanks for having me on.
[20:42] Speaker 4: Before I take these next couple of blocks off, I'm
[20:44] Speaker 4: gonna go do some crawls outside in the art just
[20:47] Speaker 4: to kind of put my body in weird positions.
[20:49] Speaker 2: Thanks Christian McCaffrey, Gino Smith, and the Jets. Let's talk Jets.
[20:54] Speaker 4: Our buddy Campbell was going to tell us exactly who
[20:57] Speaker 4: they are drafting.
[20:58] Speaker 2: Coming up next.
[21:02] Speaker 5: Aaron Glenn is heading into his second season as the
[21:04] Speaker 5: Jets head coach, and the Jets have a ton of
[21:07] Speaker 5: draft capital to support him. Two picks in the first round,
[21:10] Speaker 5: including number two overall. Let's bring in our Cam Wolf,
[21:14] Speaker 5: who is going to be with the Jets during the draft,
[21:17] Speaker 5: and let's bring back on Baldy to talk about the
[21:20] Speaker 5: Jets draft. All right, Cam, we saw number two overall.
[21:23] Speaker 5: This team still has a whole lot of roster needs.
[21:26] Speaker 5: What direction are they going to look?
[21:27] Speaker 2: Judy?
[21:28] Speaker 11: The draft starts at number two with the Jets with
[21:30] Speaker 11: the belief that Fernando Mendoza goes to the Raiders and
[21:32] Speaker 11: it stays there throughout the draft. Pick at two, pick
[21:35] Speaker 11: at sixteen four in the top forty five picks, and
[21:38] Speaker 11: talking to people around the league, the belief is at
[21:40] Speaker 11: number two they're going to choose between Texas Techs David
[21:44] Speaker 11: Bailey and Ohio State's Rvel Reese. And I talked to
[21:47] Speaker 11: people around the league to get a little bit of
[21:48] Speaker 11: insight on these two guys. What it fit is there?
[21:52] Speaker 11: Both seem worthy of the number two overall pick. They're
[21:55] Speaker 11: just different styles of player. One NFL exec from a
[21:58] Speaker 11: different team told me it's really a judge of.
[22:01] Speaker 2: Do you value production or potential more.
[22:04] Speaker 11: Rvel Rees is the versatile playmaker, the guy who won
[22:07] Speaker 11: his zex said he could be the best player in
[22:10] Speaker 11: the draft three years from now.
[22:11] Speaker 2: But he's a one year starter.
[22:12] Speaker 11: Who you're projecting from off ball linebacker to edge rusher.
[22:16] Speaker 11: Can you do that? Do you have a plan for him?
[22:18] Speaker 11: If you do, you can hit it special. He said
[22:20] Speaker 11: on Hey Rookie that he wants to play outside linebacker.
[22:23] Speaker 11: That's where people think his potential can lie. He can
[22:25] Speaker 11: be an elite sack guy, but again you have to
[22:28] Speaker 11: have a plan there. David Bailey a pure pass rusher,
[22:31] Speaker 11: a speed guy. He's done it fourteen and a half
[22:33] Speaker 11: sacks last year at Texas Tech. But can he prove
[22:36] Speaker 11: that he can stay on the field for three downs
[22:38] Speaker 11: and play run defense. Either way, the Jets are going
[22:40] Speaker 11: to get a really good defensive player at number two,
[22:43] Speaker 11: most likely, and then the question comes do they draft
[22:46] Speaker 11: a quarterback? Look Ty Simpson, Drew Aler, Garrett nuss Meyer,
[22:51] Speaker 11: Carson Back all available options. But remember they have three
[22:54] Speaker 11: first round picks in twenty twenty seven, so they did
[22:57] Speaker 11: not need to force a quarterback. And maybe it's more
[22:59] Speaker 11: likely they go get a receiver for Gino Smith in
[23:02] Speaker 11: twenty twenty six and potentially wait till twenty twenty seven
[23:06] Speaker 11: to get that signal caller Cam.
[23:07] Speaker 8: The Jets spent a large part of free agency just
[23:11] Speaker 8: addressing real needs with veteran players, you know, guys in
[23:14] Speaker 8: the middle like David Anyamada, the Mario Davis maka Fitzpatrick
[23:19] Speaker 8: traded for Tofandre Sweat, went out and got Nayseean, Right.
[23:22] Speaker 8: I mean, they got six new starters on defense. But
[23:25] Speaker 8: to your point, the one glaring need right now is
[23:28] Speaker 8: edge rusher. No matter what Aaron Glenn plays, and it's
[23:31] Speaker 8: going to be a multiple front. But you think about
[23:34] Speaker 8: how they turned things around in Detroit. Aiden Hutchinson was
[23:37] Speaker 8: a big part of it. Once they got Aiden Hutchinson,
[23:39] Speaker 8: that got that heat off the edge. I feel like,
[23:43] Speaker 8: you know, whether it is David Bailey or RVL Reese.
[23:46] Speaker 8: I mean, Bailey is the best edge rusher in my
[23:48] Speaker 8: mind in this draft. I feel like that's the direction
[23:51] Speaker 8: they're going to go with the second pick, the sixteenth pick.
[23:54] Speaker 8: They've got some freedom there. There's the receivers that certainly
[23:57] Speaker 8: could be needed at that pick right there, that could
[23:59] Speaker 8: help Smith right now. But I think nailing that number
[24:02] Speaker 8: two pick is is a paramount for the Jets, and
[24:05] Speaker 8: it seems like that's the glaring need when you look
[24:08] Speaker 8: at the roster right now.
[24:09] Speaker 5: Well, again, the Jets have a lot of roster needs.
[24:12] Speaker 5: Just in talking to folks around the Jets, I would
[24:14] Speaker 5: be surprised if they pick up a quarterback early in
[24:17] Speaker 5: this draft. I think they are focused on filling a
[24:20] Speaker 5: whole lot of other holes. Maybe a developmental guy much
[24:23] Speaker 5: later in the draft. But as Cam you pointed out,
[24:25] Speaker 5: they have three first round picks next year, so they
[24:28] Speaker 5: will be in control of the board. All right, let's
[24:30] Speaker 5: switch gears to the Carolina Panthers. Let's hear from their
[24:34] Speaker 5: general manager Dan Morgan on his philosophy of drafting wide receivers.
[24:38] Speaker 12: No, I think, you know, with anything, we're going to
[24:41] Speaker 12: take the best player. So if the best player we
[24:44] Speaker 12: feel is that at nineteen, I wouldn't hesitate to draft
[24:48] Speaker 12: another wide out. You know, I don't think there's a
[24:50] Speaker 12: role that says you can't draft a wide receiver three
[24:53] Speaker 12: years in a row. So I'm not really gonna you know,
[24:57] Speaker 12: I'm not going to box us in and say we're
[24:59] Speaker 12: not a draft one.
[25:01] Speaker 2: I mean, sure, why not?
[25:02] Speaker 5: All I Cam, the Panthers picked nineteenth overall in the
[25:05] Speaker 5: first round.
[25:06] Speaker 2: Here, what are they going to do? Yeah?
[25:07] Speaker 11: The reason the Panthers could potentially take a receiver for
[25:10] Speaker 11: the thursd eight years because Dan Morgan and the Panthers
[25:12] Speaker 11: did a great job in free agency filling their needs.
[25:15] Speaker 11: Jalen Phillips the best edge rusher they get, Devin Lloyd
[25:19] Speaker 11: potentially the best linebacker they get. So now they can
[25:21] Speaker 11: choose whoever the best guy is. So let's say they
[25:24] Speaker 11: do go receiver to pet pair with Ted Rowe McMillan.
[25:27] Speaker 11: They have been looking, from what I understand, for a
[25:30] Speaker 11: speed guy, a guy that can run after the catch
[25:32] Speaker 11: that can potentially help Bryce Young, a playmaker, a guy
[25:35] Speaker 11: that can turn ten yard catch into eighty yard catch.
[25:38] Speaker 11: And so you look at a few different guys Casey
[25:40] Speaker 11: Conception on, Omar Cooper, Mackay Lemon, Chris Brazel, all guys
[25:46] Speaker 11: that they have had interest in that they have brought
[25:47] Speaker 11: in for visits, from what I understand, could potentially be
[25:50] Speaker 11: options for them at number nineteen. Kenyan Sadik, another player
[25:55] Speaker 11: who could be the best tight end on the board,
[25:56] Speaker 11: could be available for them at nineteen. Remember great Golson
[26:00] Speaker 11: with the Panthers for so many years, being that reliable target.
[26:04] Speaker 2: Maybe Sadik is that.
[26:05] Speaker 11: Guy that they bring in to help Bryce Young that
[26:08] Speaker 11: big athletic target over the middle. The Panthers can do
[26:11] Speaker 11: whatever they want when the draft d to free agency,
[26:13] Speaker 11: and they're a team that believes they are not only
[26:15] Speaker 11: contending for the NFC South, but they can potentially make
[26:18] Speaker 11: more noise with a strong draft body.
[26:20] Speaker 8: You know, cam Bryce Young has quietly improved each year
[26:23] Speaker 8: and hell out of it is what Dan Morgan has done.
[26:25] Speaker 8: They addressed the offensive line a couple of years ago,
[26:27] Speaker 8: two big guards in there. He's better in the middle
[26:30] Speaker 8: right now. They got Ted McMillan, which was the offensive
[26:33] Speaker 8: rookie of the Year last year. Jalen Jalen Coker has
[26:38] Speaker 8: really developed. But I just think they should continue to
[26:42] Speaker 8: build around him. And when you mentioned Kenadik, I lit
[26:45] Speaker 8: up like they're picking nineteen. That's kind of where the
[26:49] Speaker 8: sweet spot for him might be. Maybe they got to move,
[26:52] Speaker 8: but you know, if you're talking about getting a speed
[26:54] Speaker 8: guy that can really take the top off a defense,
[26:57] Speaker 8: that's what Kenyon Side can do. Vision of me, They've
[27:01] Speaker 8: got flexibility with them. I feel like that might be
[27:04] Speaker 8: a real landing spot as they continue to build around
[27:07] Speaker 8: Bryce Young.
[27:08] Speaker 1: Right now, final days of pre draft visits being allowed.
[27:12] Speaker 2: Couple notable names.
[27:12] Speaker 1: Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers was on a visit with
[27:16] Speaker 1: the Broncos. Meanwhile, former Penn State quarterback and Drew Aller
[27:20] Speaker 1: continued his pre draft tour with a visit to the
[27:24] Speaker 1: Cardinals nine days away April twenty third, that is next
[27:27] Speaker 1: Thursday night, It All kicks off in Pittsburgh live eight
[27:31] Speaker 1: pm Eastern Time with first round coverage right here on
[27:34] Speaker 1: NFL Network and across the ESPN family of networks. Welcome
[27:38] Speaker 1: back to the Insiders, Tom Pellisero, now joined once again
[27:41] Speaker 1: by Brian Baldinger as well as land Zerline.
[27:44] Speaker 2: Let's talk about some of.
[27:45] Speaker 1: The high risk, high reward prospects in this draft, and
[27:49] Speaker 1: Lands you can take your pick of a few guys
[27:52] Speaker 1: at quarterback.
[27:52] Speaker 2: Where do you want to begin, Yeah, let's take.
[27:54] Speaker 13: A look at a Let's start off with ty Simpson. Okay,
[27:57] Speaker 13: I mean, there's actually a lot of these guys that
[27:59] Speaker 13: would that would hit this mark, but I think ty
[28:01] Speaker 13: Simpson is the one really that has the highest reward,
[28:05] Speaker 13: so I wanted to spotlight him. Look, the risk is
[28:07] Speaker 13: that he's a one year starter. We know historically those
[28:10] Speaker 13: guys don't pan out. Most of the time. It's tough
[28:13] Speaker 13: to get what you need on the fly when you
[28:16] Speaker 13: are trying to learn against NFL defenses. It's just very
[28:18] Speaker 13: difficult when you had it when you haven't had those reps.
[28:21] Speaker 13: But when you watch him in some of the games,
[28:23] Speaker 13: especially that Missouri game, you see some special stuff. So
[28:27] Speaker 13: I think the risk is there because anytime you draft
[28:29] Speaker 13: a quarterback, especially in the first round early second there's
[28:32] Speaker 13: a lot of pressure on the front office to develop.
[28:34] Speaker 13: The problem is, or rather the reward side of that is,
[28:37] Speaker 13: if you hit Man, the reward is huge.
[28:40] Speaker 2: Baldy, it can be Lance.
[28:41] Speaker 8: There's not a great you know, sample size of guys
[28:44] Speaker 8: that have fifteen starts in college one year like you
[28:47] Speaker 8: had at Alabama, and we ought to be great players
[28:49] Speaker 8: no matter where they got drafted.
[28:51] Speaker 2: Just not enough sample size.
[28:52] Speaker 8: And then he did get banged up, and he didn't
[28:54] Speaker 8: finish strong, and he did fumble the ball six times.
[28:57] Speaker 8: So ball security was a little bit of a problem.
[29:00] Speaker 8: But you see the special skills. You see the ability
[29:03] Speaker 8: to just go through progressions, you know, the athletic ability
[29:06] Speaker 8: to finish plays like this like you did against the Bulldogs.
[29:10] Speaker 8: But that risk of only fifteen starts, to me, I
[29:14] Speaker 8: just I just want to see another year of playing.
[29:17] Speaker 8: The people that say, oh, just drap them and let
[29:19] Speaker 8: him sit, well, quarterbacks only get better when they get
[29:22] Speaker 8: a chance to play.
[29:22] Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about cornerbacks here, Lance, who would
[29:26] Speaker 1: you go to here in terms of a high risk,
[29:28] Speaker 1: high reward prospect.
[29:29] Speaker 13: Yeah, I'd say Avian Terrell from Clemson. But I mean, look,
[29:32] Speaker 13: I'm going to err on the side or a high reward.
[29:35] Speaker 13: His tape is fantastic. And the problem that you have,
[29:38] Speaker 13: why is it high risk? Well, you know, he's been
[29:40] Speaker 13: a little banged up during the process, the draft process.
[29:43] Speaker 13: He thought he was ready to run, so he ran,
[29:45] Speaker 13: and he ran into four sixes and it was a
[29:47] Speaker 13: slow time and it was a big red flag I
[29:49] Speaker 13: think for a lot of teams. But you know, my
[29:53] Speaker 13: sources tell me that the concern that they have was
[29:56] Speaker 13: not it's not really as bad in terms of the
[29:59] Speaker 13: speed because the training sessions he was running in the
[30:02] Speaker 13: fourth force. He just ran a bad time for whatever reason.
[30:05] Speaker 13: So I don't think most teams look at him as
[30:08] Speaker 13: a slower cornerback. But when you have that time on
[30:10] Speaker 13: the board and he doesn't have any other workouts to
[30:13] Speaker 13: go on, there is an athletic component that you weren't
[30:16] Speaker 13: able to check. There was a box that went unchecked.
[30:19] Speaker 13: So there's the risk. The reward is this guy is
[30:21] Speaker 13: one of the stickiest, most aggressive cover corners that you're
[30:24] Speaker 13: going to find, and a really competitive guy. I love
[30:28] Speaker 13: the tape, but there's not an athletic check in that box.
[30:31] Speaker 13: So that's a little bit of the risk that you
[30:33] Speaker 13: have here. I do think he'll go in the second.
[30:35] Speaker 8: I think Avion Terrell is a better prospect coming out
[30:39] Speaker 8: of Clemson than his brother was coming out of college
[30:42] Speaker 8: who starts for the Atlanta Falcons six years older. I
[30:44] Speaker 8: mean he turned on that first game Lance, I mean
[30:46] Speaker 8: the first hit of the game, he's knocking to ball
[30:49] Speaker 8: out eight force fumbles there at Clemson. He can play inside,
[30:52] Speaker 8: he can play outside. He's an aggressive tackler. He doesn't
[30:57] Speaker 8: turn his nose down to anybody in college football.
[31:00] Speaker 2: I like him.
[31:01] Speaker 8: I understand the hamstring was an issue and it kind
[31:03] Speaker 8: of slowed him down a little bit, but I feel
[31:05] Speaker 8: like his game speed was where it needs to be,
[31:08] Speaker 8: and his size and ball skills are all there. I'm
[31:11] Speaker 8: a big fan of avan Terrell.
[31:13] Speaker 1: How about a high risk, high reward safety lens.
[31:17] Speaker 13: Well, we're not talking enough about some of these safeties.
[31:19] Speaker 13: This is a good safety draft. And one of the
[31:20] Speaker 13: guys that needs a little bit more of a spotlight
[31:22] Speaker 13: is Bud Clark. I mean, this is a natural born ballhawk.
[31:25] Speaker 13: He is all over the field at all times taking
[31:29] Speaker 13: the ball away. So where's the risk, you ask, Well,
[31:32] Speaker 13: he's missed multiple games in three different seasons. So anytime
[31:36] Speaker 13: you have a safety who is a little bit undersized
[31:38] Speaker 13: and has missed multiple games in three different seasons, you've
[31:41] Speaker 13: got a durability concern. That's the risk. And he is
[31:45] Speaker 13: a day two talent without question. When you take a
[31:47] Speaker 13: day two talent, you're expecting him to come in and start.
[31:50] Speaker 13: But boy, that risk is mitigated Baldy by unbelievable reward
[31:55] Speaker 13: because he flips the field on teams on a regular
[31:58] Speaker 13: basis really talented in that regard.
[32:00] Speaker 8: Yeah, he's a six year player for the horn Frogs
[32:03] Speaker 8: TCU there, but those fifteen interceptions are real lambs. I
[32:06] Speaker 8: mean they're not. They didn't just give him a ball,
[32:09] Speaker 8: He went and took it away. He's got a real
[32:11] Speaker 8: knack for it. I think those skills everybody's looking for
[32:13] Speaker 8: their safety to take the ball away. Kevin Byer this
[32:17] Speaker 8: year in Chicago, I mean he led the league in interceptions. Again,
[32:20] Speaker 8: I want my safety in the back end to really
[32:22] Speaker 8: challenge quarterbacks and receivers. He's got a flair for it,
[32:26] Speaker 8: and so while the injury history is real and you
[32:29] Speaker 8: can't deny it, the upside of the ball skills that
[32:31] Speaker 8: he has and the way that he plays the game,
[32:34] Speaker 8: I think it might be very well worth the risk.
[32:36] Speaker 1: One more lance, high risk, high reward offensive lineman.
[32:39] Speaker 2: What do you got.
[32:40] Speaker 13: I'm excited to hear Baldi's take on this Maxahona chore
[32:42] Speaker 13: from Arizona State.
[32:44] Speaker 2: The right tackle.
[32:44] Speaker 13: Look, there's a little bit of tightness in his lower
[32:47] Speaker 13: half with some of his movements, and then you see
[32:49] Speaker 13: him moving forward in other you know, in other movements
[32:52] Speaker 13: he looks fluid. So it's a little bit of a concern.
[32:55] Speaker 13: You don't have that consistent fluid fluidity on the field.
[32:58] Speaker 13: In terms of his pass pro what you do see
[33:01] Speaker 13: is you have a guy with a great body composure,
[33:04] Speaker 13: you have great traits.
[33:05] Speaker 2: He's got really good lengths and when.
[33:07] Speaker 13: You watch that pass tape, you watch his hands when
[33:09] Speaker 13: his hands are right, that's high level potential at the
[33:12] Speaker 13: right tackle spot. It's hard to find longtime starters, and
[33:16] Speaker 13: so yeah, the risk is there. He's a little bit
[33:18] Speaker 13: raw and you end up taking him in the first round,
[33:20] Speaker 13: which makes the risk even higher. But the reward of
[33:23] Speaker 13: finding a long time starter at one of the tackle
[33:25] Speaker 13: spots what makes it worth the makes it worth the
[33:28] Speaker 13: potential risk. I think Baldy as early as maybe late
[33:31] Speaker 13: round one.
[33:32] Speaker 8: Well, he's born in Nigeria, didn't start playing football till
[33:35] Speaker 8: late okay, I mean he's new to the game.
[33:38] Speaker 2: He wears fifty eight.
[33:39] Speaker 8: He plays right tackle at Arizona State, and there's plays
[33:42] Speaker 8: out there right lands where you go, is that the
[33:44] Speaker 8: next penna? Sool like he's got that kind of a
[33:47] Speaker 8: billion ohire. He'll also stink up a play too where
[33:51] Speaker 8: he just like just way out of position. But you
[33:54] Speaker 8: see great feet, you see length, you see tremendous athletic
[33:58] Speaker 8: ability ran in the four ns. You know in his
[34:01] Speaker 8: forty yard time. There is a real upside here to
[34:05] Speaker 8: max And I agree with you. I think very well
[34:07] Speaker 8: he could go at the bottom of the first round,
[34:10] Speaker 8: and if he's well coached, with a good group around him,
[34:13] Speaker 8: he might really ascend in the next couple of years
[34:16] Speaker 8: at the NFL level right now.
[34:18] Speaker 1: Baldy Lance, thank you both very much. Great stuff. The
[34:22] Speaker 1: draft might.
[34:22] Speaker 4: Be nine days away, but I'm going to be there
[34:25] Speaker 4: much sooner, as will Tom Pelisarah has for everyone else
[34:28] Speaker 4: from NFN ever, descend Niabon Pittsburgh and Acker Shores. We
[34:32] Speaker 4: get closer to the NFL Draft. It is going to
[34:34] Speaker 4: be an awesome, awesome scene. Hopefully not as cold as
[34:38] Speaker 4: it usually is this time of year. But I digress.
[34:40] Speaker 4: Not as important to you, Adam, rank, mostly important to me.
[34:43] Speaker 4: Here's what's important to you. Rank your mock draft with
[34:46] Speaker 4: a twist. Tell me what you are you know telling
[34:50] Speaker 4: me about?
[34:50] Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing.
[34:51] Speaker 14: It feels like everybody's got a bock draft these days,
[34:53] Speaker 14: whether it's Bucky Brooks, Ret Kleinschmidt, Justin bieber Head. Okay,
[34:58] Speaker 14: not Justin bieber although what was he I'm doing at Coachella?
[35:00] Speaker 14: Just showing YouTube videos getting paid millions of dollars. But whatever,
[35:04] Speaker 14: here's my thing. It is time for my mock draft
[35:06] Speaker 14: with a twist. The twist, I realize that I don't
[35:09] Speaker 14: know anything. So instead of sitting here trying to predict
[35:12] Speaker 14: what every team is going to do and get it wrong.
[35:14] Speaker 14: I'm going to tell them what they should do, much
[35:17] Speaker 14: like I do on NFL Fantasy Live every afternoon in
[35:19] Speaker 14: the fall. And you might ask yourself, why should these
[35:22] Speaker 14: teams listen to you? Which is a good point, like
[35:24] Speaker 14: why should the Jets listen to me? What's the worst
[35:27] Speaker 14: that could happen? Jets, you finish in last place and
[35:30] Speaker 14: get the second pick of the draft. Spoiler alert, you're
[35:33] Speaker 14: already there. But let's start with the Jets. Because I
[35:36] Speaker 14: sit out here minding my own business listening to Cameron
[35:39] Speaker 14: Wolf and Baldy talking about the Jets should draft a
[35:41] Speaker 14: defensive player, Like stop doing that. That's like an anytime
[35:45] Speaker 14: one of my friends is like I'm gonna go to
[35:46] Speaker 14: New York, I'm like, what are you gonna see the
[35:47] Speaker 14: Statue of Liberty? Like, don't do that? Do something different,
[35:51] Speaker 14: do something bold. You know what, why not draft Cardneal Tate,
[35:55] Speaker 14: go out there and be awesome, Jets, listen. I love
[35:57] Speaker 14: Garrett Wilson, I love Breeshall, but Gino Smith needs a
[36:01] Speaker 14: lot of help. And much like in golf, if you're
[36:03] Speaker 14: not going to play good, at least play fast.
[36:05] Speaker 2: If you're not going to be a good football team.
[36:07] Speaker 2: At least score a lot of points.
[36:09] Speaker 14: Maybe then Jets fans will actually want to go watch
[36:12] Speaker 14: those games for a change. But let's let's stay on
[36:14] Speaker 14: the offensive side of things. Cause, uh, I've got some
[36:17] Speaker 14: words for you, Washington Commanders. And I know it's not you.
[36:21] Speaker 14: It's a lot of the mock drafts that I'm seeing.
[36:22] Speaker 14: They're like, hey, they should, they should go for Sonny Styles.
[36:25] Speaker 14: They I'm like, stop, what are you talking about? You
[36:28] Speaker 14: have Jayden Daniels. Why are you trying to roll Jaden
[36:32] Speaker 14: Daniels out there with the other McCaffrey, the guy who
[36:36] Speaker 14: couldn't play for the Titan League. Why are you doing
[36:38] Speaker 14: this to one of the budding young superstars in the NFL.
[36:41] Speaker 14: That's like if you hired Bruce Springsteen to play your
[36:44] Speaker 14: birthday party. But you're like, you know what, we don't
[36:46] Speaker 14: want the East Street Band. Give me a bunch of
[36:48] Speaker 14: elementary kids playing recorders, because.
[36:51] Speaker 2: I'm sure it's just it's not.
[36:53] Speaker 14: Make sure you surround Jaden Daniels with a lot of talent,
[36:56] Speaker 14: whether it's whether it's Tate, If the Jets all listen
[36:58] Speaker 14: to me, Malachi Lemon, Jeremiah Love, these are all options
[37:03] Speaker 14: a lot. I will say this about Jeremiah Love and
[37:05] Speaker 14: I'm looking at you, Tennessee Titans. I know a couple
[37:07] Speaker 14: of years ago you had a bad breakup with Derrick Henry.
[37:10] Speaker 14: And sometimes when you have a breakup, you either go
[37:13] Speaker 14: one way or the other.
[37:14] Speaker 2: You either date.
[37:15] Speaker 14: Somebody who looks just like your ex or go with
[37:18] Speaker 14: the exact opposite. And you went with the exact opposite
[37:21] Speaker 14: with Tony Pollard, in no disrespect to him not getting
[37:24] Speaker 14: it done. Go out there and draft Jeremiah Love. This
[37:27] Speaker 14: is the player that you need. And if you're not
[37:29] Speaker 14: going to do it for me, do it for cam Ward.
[37:32] Speaker 14: He deserves it. And finally, I want to close on
[37:35] Speaker 14: the Kansas City Chiefs. Why are the Kansas City Chiefs
[37:38] Speaker 14: drafting in the top ten? Where is Adam Silver? If
[37:41] Speaker 14: Adam Silver was in charge of this league, oh, there'd
[37:44] Speaker 14: be a lot of changes to the draft because the
[37:47] Speaker 14: Chiefs should not.
[37:48] Speaker 2: Be drafting in the top ten.
[37:49] Speaker 14: As a matter of fact, the last time they picked
[37:51] Speaker 14: in the top ten, they drafted some guy what was
[37:53] Speaker 14: it named are Patrick Mahomes?
[37:55] Speaker 2: Good?
[37:55] Speaker 14: Luck less rest of the league. But here's my thing.
[37:58] Speaker 14: I've got a I've got a call for the Chiefs.
[38:02] Speaker 14: That's so outlandish I cannot do it here. You have
[38:05] Speaker 14: to go to NFL dot com slash rank check out
[38:07] Speaker 14: my mock draft with a twist.
[38:09] Speaker 2: It's NFL dot com slash lud. Could I get a
[38:12] Speaker 2: plug in? Ian?
[38:13] Speaker 14: Does that fine? This is the first time Ian hasn't
[38:15] Speaker 14: stopped all over my plug. Could I plug NFL dot com?
[38:19] Speaker 4: Okay, I'm sorry I blacked out when you talked about
[38:22] Speaker 4: rigging the draft for the Chiefs and then having a
[38:24] Speaker 4: great pick and then going to your personal website to.
[38:28] Speaker 2: For us to cut. There was a lot of stuff there, Rank,
[38:32] Speaker 2: but I was really I was out on that.
[38:34] Speaker 4: You could have told us about some weird basketball team
[38:36] Speaker 4: that we really don't care about.
[38:37] Speaker 2: Either.
[38:38] Speaker 4: Anyway, maybe next time, although I should have seasons over,
[38:41] Speaker 4: Adam Rank, Thank you very much for joining us on
[38:43] Speaker 4: the Insiders. I guess speaking of the Insiders, every single weekday,
[38:49] Speaker 4: seven pm Eastern, there is all of us.
[38:52] Speaker 2: We will be smiling in clothes that are uh not
[38:54] Speaker 2: as nice as the ones are wearing in that promo.
[38:56] Speaker 2: But you should still.
[38:57] Speaker 1: Watch so news around the NFL. Nauzier Adderley is back
[39:03] Speaker 1: after three years away. The first cousin twice removed to
[39:06] Speaker 1: Hall of Famer Herb Adderley, signing a one year deal
[39:10] Speaker 1: come back with the Indianapolis Colts. Pre draft visits wrap
[39:13] Speaker 1: up on Wednesday. Today, Georgia, Ted and Oscar Delp finish
[39:17] Speaker 1: out a long list of visits, seeing the Bucks and
[39:20] Speaker 1: the Chargers this week. I have Reguard bo Stevens also
[39:24] Speaker 1: has been a busy man, visits to the Cowboys, Seahawks,
[39:29] Speaker 1: and Falcons among a tour of a half dozen teams.
[39:32] Speaker 1: Aburt offensive lineman Jeremiah Wright feels like we talk about
[39:35] Speaker 1: him somewhere new every single day, visiting the Saints after
[39:39] Speaker 1: previously visiting the Patriots. Judy, I come to you for
[39:44] Speaker 1: your analysis of Jeremiah Wright and his tour. I'm kidding
[39:50] Speaker 1: anything else you want to talk about here.
[39:52] Speaker 4: Yes, Tomorrow is a big day because tomorrow is the
[39:55] Speaker 4: final day for prospects to do top thirty visits, which
[39:57] Speaker 4: means if you like to those visits, boy, do I
[40:01] Speaker 4: have more for you coming up? Tomorrow is going to
[40:03] Speaker 4: be filled with top prospects and other prospects visiting places
[40:09] Speaker 4: that are among the thirty two that are going to
[40:11] Speaker 4: be picking a week plus two days from now, did
[40:15] Speaker 4: I fill out the time?
[40:16] Speaker 2: Did I nail it, I don't know.
[40:18] Speaker 4: Come back tomorrow from Insiders, see you ring on the Draft.
