[0:02] Speaker 1: So Mahomes was back on the field. Are the Chiefs
[0:05] Speaker 1: now back in the AFC driver's seat?
[0:07] Speaker 2: Maybe.
[0:08] Speaker 1: Coming up on the NFL Report, why Casey's run is
[0:11] Speaker 1: on again. Was week one the real Ravens offense, or
[0:18] Speaker 1: did Lamar Jackson just step on a horseshoe in Indy?
[0:21] Speaker 1: Nick Shook has the answer to that. Plus, does Josh
[0:26] Speaker 1: Allen have a week two encore? We'll ask his former center,
[0:31] Speaker 1: Mitch Morse. That is next on the NFL Report. It
[0:36] Speaker 1: is a week to Tuesday on the NFL Report. Hi there.
[0:39] Speaker 1: I'm Andrew Siciliano. We're presented to you by Nationwide. Thank
[0:41] Speaker 1: you for being here. There is a new number one
[0:43] Speaker 1: of the power rankings. Nick Shook is standing off camera
[0:47] Speaker 1: to bring you that joy coming up shortly. And as mentioned,
[0:50] Speaker 1: Mitch Morse is here and the latest on Sam Darnold.
[0:52] Speaker 1: But there was a game yesterday. to end week number one.
[0:56] Speaker 1: Our latest headline is a highlight. Can we do it
[0:58] Speaker 1: that way? Sure, because there's not a lot of news today.
[1:01] Speaker 1: So let's just give you the highlight. Patrick Mahomes back,
[1:04] Speaker 1: exactly nine months to the day after his torn ACL.
[1:07] Speaker 1: And on that opening drive after a Montsour Delane pick
[1:10] Speaker 1: on his first drive as a first round pick rookie. Oh,
[1:14] Speaker 1: he can run. He can run. It's a 15 yard
[1:17] Speaker 1: touchdown for Patrick Mahomes. Buck and Aikman yell he's back.
[1:20] Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, yeah, the Chiefs are going
[1:22] Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl. They're up 14-7. Pick it up here.
[1:25] Speaker 1: Fourth and one. Early in the third quarter. Kenneth Walker
[1:29] Speaker 1: is still going. He's gone. Basically his entire night after contact.
[1:34] Speaker 1: 173 yards. All he did was break tackles. The Super
[1:39] Speaker 1: Bowl MVP with quite possibly the greatest Super Bowl MVP
[1:43] Speaker 1: week one performance the following year. And then Andy Reid
[1:46] Speaker 1: goes single wing flip counter. Mahomes and the Chiefs destroy,
[1:53] Speaker 1: and I mean destroy the Broncos 31-10.
[1:55] Speaker 2: I just wanted to get out there and play.
[1:58] Speaker 3: This is what you do it for, and I was
[2:00] Speaker 3: able to play and go out there, and my guys
[2:03] Speaker 3: around me kind of helped me. So whenever I wasn't,
[2:05] Speaker 3: I feel like I didn't play my best football, we
[2:07] Speaker 3: still were able to go out there and beat a
[2:08] Speaker 3: really good football team pretty well. And it's because the
[2:12] Speaker 3: guys around me stepped up and knew that they're going
[2:14] Speaker 3: to have to help me as I kind of get
[2:16] Speaker 3: back into the rhythm of things.
[2:18] Speaker 1: Love the get-up as well for Patrick Mahomes afterwards. Montsour
[2:21] Speaker 1: Delane had the pick, sixth overall pick, and then he
[2:24] Speaker 1: got the interception early. He left with a shoulder injury.
[2:27] Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport, NFL Network Insider, says that it's not that bad,
[2:32] Speaker 1: at least for now. Now, the Broncos were that bad.
[2:34] Speaker 1: We'll get to them in a second. But, hey, everybody,
[2:35] Speaker 1: Nick Shook is here, as promised. NFL.com's own. You're leaving
[2:40] Speaker 1: me hanging. Nick Shook is here. Let's talk Mahomes. Let's
[2:43] Speaker 1: talk the Chiefs. They ran the football. They look good.
[2:45] Speaker 1: They look like they were back. I'm going to ask
[2:48] Speaker 1: Mitch Morse this later as well. Is it sustainable, this like, hey,
[2:52] Speaker 1: we're going to run the football? Because I think Andy
[2:54] Speaker 1: Reid eventually gets bored doing that, doesn't he?
[2:56] Speaker 4: Oh, that's a good way to look at it. But
[2:57] Speaker 4: I don't think it's going to be the total that
[2:59] Speaker 4: you saw from Kenneth Walker in week one. And part
[3:00] Speaker 4: of that is because of the defense he was facing
[3:02] Speaker 4: and their lack of ability to tackle. But what I
[3:04] Speaker 4: do think is an encouraging sign for this Chiefs offense
[3:07] Speaker 4: is with Patrick Mahomes coming back from the ACL and
[3:11] Speaker 4: maybe not being quite as mobile as he was in
[3:13] Speaker 4: previous years and still getting some confidence with his legs,
[3:16] Speaker 4: You got Kenneth Walker to lean on. The Chiefs haven't
[3:18] Speaker 4: had a 1,000-yard rusher since Kareem Hunt. That was a
[3:21] Speaker 4: long time ago. And I think Kenneth Walker's off to
[3:23] Speaker 4: a heck of a start. And it'll really work out well,
[3:26] Speaker 4: I think, for them if they can continually do this
[3:29] Speaker 4: on a weekly basis.
[3:30] Speaker 5: Right now, it's a good start.
[3:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good start. And they're back in primetime
[3:33] Speaker 1: again next week. They get Sunday Night Football NBC. They
[3:37] Speaker 1: get the Colts. And then you have, as mentioned, the
[3:40] Speaker 1: Denver Broncos. You can make the argument. that what the
[3:42] Speaker 1: Broncos did last night for a team that went to
[3:45] Speaker 1: the AFC Championship game, for a team that has an
[3:47] Speaker 1: eye on the Super Bowl, was the worst and most
[3:51] Speaker 1: disappointing week one performance of any team in the league.
[3:54] Speaker 1: Here's Sean Payton on Tuesday.
[3:57] Speaker 6: Well, certainly a slap in the face. I mean, you know,
[4:00] Speaker 6: when you come off training camp and your off-season program,
[4:03] Speaker 6: you know, it's one thing to lose in a hard-fought
[4:07] Speaker 6: game where you feel like you played well. I don't
[4:11] Speaker 6: feel like We played up to our standard, and certainly
[4:15] Speaker 6: that starts with us as coaches, myself. And so, yeah,
[4:20] Speaker 6: I mean, it's disappointing. That would be a great way
[4:23] Speaker 6: to describe it.
[4:24] Speaker 1: A great way to describe it. Where do you want
[4:26] Speaker 1: to go? You want to go Davis Webb calling plays
[4:28] Speaker 1: and Sean Payton's clear frustration talking to Laura Rutledge? You
[4:30] Speaker 1: want to go all the missed tackles for Vance Joseph's defense?
[4:33] Speaker 1: Dealer's choice.
[4:34] Speaker 4: What did this team hang their hat on last year?
[4:36] Speaker 4: It was their defense, right? And their defense missed a
[4:38] Speaker 4: ton of.
[4:38] Speaker 5: Tackles, which just does not.
[4:39] Speaker 1: They missed all the tackles.
[4:40] Speaker 4: All the tackles in the world. It just doesn't work
[4:42] Speaker 4: out well for them when they don't tackle well. And
[4:45] Speaker 4: we saw what happened last night. In the fact that
[4:47] Speaker 4: they couldn't stop the Chiefs offense that they handled pretty
[4:49] Speaker 4: well last year.
[4:50] Speaker 5: So that's where we begin. And then you look at
[4:53] Speaker 5: it on the opposite side.
[4:54] Speaker 4: Bo Nix and the Broncos offense put together exactly one
[4:56] Speaker 4: good drive. And I'm sure Sean Payton was very frustrated
[4:59] Speaker 4: with their inability to sustain any offense.
[5:01] Speaker 5: Those are things that they need to clean up and
[5:03] Speaker 5: clean up quickly.
[5:04] Speaker 1: The missed tackle number jumps off the screen of all
[5:06] Speaker 1: the crazy stats from week one, highest scoring week and
[5:08] Speaker 1: all that. 28 missed tackles on Monday night in one game.
[5:12] Speaker 1: All right. Like a third of their total for the
[5:14] Speaker 1: entire year a year ago. For 247 yards after the
[5:19] Speaker 1: missed tackles, which was the most yardage given up from
[5:22] Speaker 1: missed tackles in a single game by any team in
[5:25] Speaker 1: eight years.
[5:26] Speaker 5: Yes, and it looked exactly like that.
[5:27] Speaker 4: It was every single short gain turned into a big
[5:31] Speaker 4: gain because they just didn't finish the job on defense.
[5:33] Speaker 5: Where they were so good last year and they just
[5:36] Speaker 5: were terrible last night.
[5:37] Speaker 1: I want to ask you about the Cowboys bad defense.
[5:39] Speaker 1: Stick around. We'll do that in a minute. Let's get
[5:40] Speaker 1: some other news out of the way, including the Eagles.
[5:43] Speaker 1: So we'll keep In the NFC East, Saquon Barkley, speaking
[5:47] Speaker 1: of a run game here, one that wasn't great, had
[5:50] Speaker 1: 83 yards rushing on Sunday, but half of it came
[5:53] Speaker 1: on one play. Nick Sirianni, more concerning for him, is
[5:56] Speaker 1: that Barkley was hit behind the line of scrimmage on
[5:58] Speaker 1: nearly half on seven of his carries.
[6:02] Speaker 7: Not every play can be an explosive play in the
[6:05] Speaker 7: run game. You want to make sure you're staying ahead
[6:07] Speaker 7: of the sticks. Now, that doesn't mean that we ignore
[6:11] Speaker 7: the issues that happened on those plays that average whatever, right?
[6:15] Speaker 7: Some of them were negative plays. Some of them were
[6:16] Speaker 7: one-yard games. Some of them were six-yard games. We'll take
[6:19] Speaker 7: those six-yard games. But those plays count, you know?
[6:23] Speaker 1: And then.
[6:25] Speaker 7: When you're committed to the run game like we are,
[6:28] Speaker 7: you know, you reap the benefits of that when you
[6:31] Speaker 7: stick with it of getting an explosive in a situation,
[6:34] Speaker 7: which we were able to do that ended up setting
[6:36] Speaker 7: up a touchdown.
[6:38] Speaker 1: The Eagles beat the Commanders. Washington gets Dallas this week.
[6:42] Speaker 1: And Sunday night, you might have noticed the Cowboys' bad defense.
[6:45] Speaker 1: Nearly 400 yards allowed. And the Giants were 9 of
[6:50] Speaker 1: 11 on third down.
[6:53] Speaker 8: It's part of the learning curve. And we have to
[6:57] Speaker 8: get better. But we're going to make mistakes. And I
[7:01] Speaker 8: see this defense every day. And we did not perform
[7:04] Speaker 8: well enough as a football team last night, coaching and playing.
[7:07] Speaker 8: It's certainly not the standard, but I'm also not ready
[7:10] Speaker 8: to say the expectations for where we think we're going
[7:13] Speaker 8: to get to as a defense and as a football
[7:15] Speaker 8: team are not accurate.
[7:18] Speaker 1: I always like to make the point that snark is
[7:21] Speaker 1: not analysis. So when Christian Parker, the new DC, said
[7:25] Speaker 1: this is going to be a master class in defense,
[7:27] Speaker 1: I'm not going to be snarky, but I can point
[7:29] Speaker 1: out that those numbers are just awful on a national
[7:32] Speaker 1: stage week one. Is it going to get better?
[7:34] Speaker 5: Not only were the numbers awful, the lack of adjustments
[7:36] Speaker 5: were terrible.
[7:37] Speaker 4: I mean, the amount of times that the Cowboys let
[7:40] Speaker 4: the Giants target the flats repeatedly in the second half,
[7:43] Speaker 4: unable to get off the field when they just needed
[7:45] Speaker 4: one stop to try and go down the field and
[7:47] Speaker 4: score a game-tying touchdown, which would have required a two-point conversion.
[7:50] Speaker 2: Instead.
[7:51] Speaker 4: The Giants are able to just squeeze the life out
[7:53] Speaker 4: of the Cowboys with a long drive. They win the
[7:56] Speaker 4: physical battle. They win the schematic battle in terms of
[7:59] Speaker 4: strategy offensively with that Isaiah Likely touchdown right there. It's
[8:02] Speaker 4: just a terrible performance from this defense that we expected
[8:04] Speaker 4: a lot more from this year.
[8:05] Speaker 1: And now you get injuries. Now you get overshot out
[8:08] Speaker 1: as well. You have to wonder aloud, do they have
[8:10] Speaker 1: the corners to play this defense? Again, does it get better?
[8:16] Speaker 1: Week one, look, you've got to say new coordinator– growing pains?
[8:20] Speaker 1: Week one is a liar or is there some truth?
[8:22] Speaker 4: There's a little bit of truth, but I do think
[8:24] Speaker 4: that they'll bounce back this week against a commander's team
[8:27] Speaker 4: that gave the Eagles a run for their money. They
[8:29] Speaker 4: definitely made it tough on them, but I think that
[8:31] Speaker 4: the matchup will favor them a little bit more just
[8:33] Speaker 4: because they won't be bullied as much in the trenches
[8:35] Speaker 4: as they were in this game. That was the most
[8:37] Speaker 4: glaring issue, I think, in this game against the Giants
[8:39] Speaker 4: was how bullied they were in the box.
[8:41] Speaker 5: And I think they'll be a little bit better there.
[8:42] Speaker 4: And so that should work out better for them it
[8:45] Speaker 4: was really disheartening to watch them on Sunday night.
[8:47] Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels can make plays with his legs, much like
[8:50] Speaker 1: Jackson Dart. Do they run him as much this week
[8:52] Speaker 1: as Jackson Dart ran next week? I don't know. Nick Shook, everybody,
[8:55] Speaker 1: back with a little more of a power ranking matchup
[8:58] Speaker 1: and his week one takeaways. Coming up. Coming up next, however,
[9:02] Speaker 1: the stadium gets high marks, but will the team pass
[9:05] Speaker 1: the test on Thursday night? It's the Bills, it's the Lions,
[9:09] Speaker 1: it's former Bill Mitch Morse on the NFL Report straight ahead.
[9:14] Speaker 4: Allen in the shotgun, here's the snap, four-man rush back
[9:17] Speaker 4: to pass, fires, looking down on a post, complete.
[9:20] Speaker 2: For the touchdown!
[9:22] Speaker 1: Joshua Palmer with a game-changing play! Joshua Palmer played in
[9:28] Speaker 1: the game here last year and he was far from healthy,
[9:33] Speaker 1: a non-factor, he comes up with the play of the game.
[9:39] Speaker 1: All that Josh Allen said he wasn't even supposed to throw.
[9:43] Speaker 1: This guy had a great seat for that one. This
[9:45] Speaker 1: guy's now a broadcaster. Welcome to the dark side after
[9:48] Speaker 1: all these years as an NFL offensive lineman. Mitch Morse, pre-
[9:53] Speaker 1: and post-game host for the Bills. How does that sound, man?
[9:57] Speaker 2: It sounds a lot better when you say it, you beautiful,
[9:59] Speaker 2: beautiful man. You've aged like fine wine. It's such a
[10:02] Speaker 2: privilege to be on the network and to be with you.
[10:04] Speaker 2: I appreciate you having me on.
[10:05] Speaker 1: Mitch, it's a privilege to have you on, and I
[10:07] Speaker 1: guarantee you it was a privilege to play with that
[10:10] Speaker 1: Josh Allen guy, to now be a broadcaster describing that
[10:12] Speaker 1: Josh Allen guy. Take me through that last play because, look,
[10:17] Speaker 1: I know you could have had a pick on the
[10:18] Speaker 1: previous play, but then Josh goes right back and he's not, look,
[10:23] Speaker 1: there are five eligibles, right? So everyone could get the ball.
[10:27] Speaker 1: But when he says he's not supposed to throw that
[10:29] Speaker 1: ball to Josh Palmer, what does he mean?
[10:31] Speaker 2: Oh, I think he means exactly that. It was startling
[10:34] Speaker 2: to hear, to be honest, but that kind of speaks
[10:36] Speaker 2: to what this team's about. And listen, Josh Palmer's probably
[10:40] Speaker 2: run that in practice and in meaningful reps 30 or
[10:43] Speaker 2: 40 times, hasn't gotten the ball, but he did it
[10:45] Speaker 2: full speed with probably trying to get defenders off the
[10:49] Speaker 2: other guys. And just because that's the case, you know,
[10:52] Speaker 2: that more often than not, eventually, if you do the
[10:55] Speaker 2: things the right way, the ball is going to get
[10:56] Speaker 2: to you. And at this point in the game, I
[10:58] Speaker 2: was having a connection fit. I mean, I was having
[11:01] Speaker 2: an aneurysm. It was, but that's, what's so great about
[11:04] Speaker 2: the game of football week one. Usually you see some
[11:07] Speaker 2: sloppy football, but this was really fun from both sides
[11:10] Speaker 2: of the, of the fence here from the Texans and
[11:12] Speaker 2: the Bills, just the competitive prowess from both of those
[11:15] Speaker 2: teams showing that they have high potent offenses. And it
[11:19] Speaker 2: was such a privilege to, I mean, it's fun to
[11:21] Speaker 2: be in a seat now, kind of being a fan
[11:23] Speaker 2: of the game, watching this thing play out, but extraordinary football.
[11:27] Speaker 7: All right.
[11:27] Speaker 1: Thursday night comes fast, Mitch, for players. You're going to
[11:30] Speaker 1: learn it comes fast for broadcasters as well. But this
[11:33] Speaker 1: Thursday is special. It's the new Highmark Field. We saw
[11:36] Speaker 1: it in the preseason. But this is a national unveiling
[11:41] Speaker 1: for a beautiful new building for an amazing fan base
[11:45] Speaker 1: with a pretty darn good opponent coming in as well,
[11:48] Speaker 1: isn't it? Yeah, it's... I don't know, it was.
[11:52] Speaker 2: It's definitely a tail of two halves for the Detroit Lions,
[11:54] Speaker 2: but if you look at the numbers and you actually
[11:56] Speaker 2: watch the film, this team has still got the juice
[12:00] Speaker 2: on that defense. Yes, they're missing Branch and Joseph as
[12:03] Speaker 2: the safeties, but you know how they masked that? They
[12:06] Speaker 2: tried to kind of mitigate that was they blitzed almost 50%
[12:09] Speaker 2: of the time, and these guys that they have on
[12:12] Speaker 2: the D-line and the linebacker core, great football players. Jameer
[12:16] Speaker 2: Gibbs didn't miss a beat, taking more of the workload,
[12:18] Speaker 2: 156 yards on the ground. and Jamison Williams still put
[12:22] Speaker 2: up some pretty big numbers. And he's probably, he's going
[12:25] Speaker 2: to be lit on fire with those three drops and
[12:27] Speaker 2: one fumble. This is a Dan Campbell coached team. We
[12:30] Speaker 2: know this is a team that thrives on grit and
[12:32] Speaker 2: thrives on those big moments. The emotions will be palpable
[12:36] Speaker 2: moving across the street after playing in the Ralph for
[12:39] Speaker 2: 52 years. This is a rabid fan base. It's so
[12:42] Speaker 2: much fun to be a part of in this capacity
[12:45] Speaker 2: as well as playing capacity. It's just got, it's an
[12:48] Speaker 2: opportunity to be one of the most bombastic places to
[12:52] Speaker 2: be this season.
[12:54] Speaker 1: And they built the stadium, the new stadium, with the
[12:57] Speaker 1: stands pretty much going straight up. So they want to
[12:58] Speaker 1: make it like Seattle. They want to make it loud.
[13:00] Speaker 1: You were there for the preseason. I can't imagine it
[13:02] Speaker 1: was that loud for the preseason. Just how cool is
[13:05] Speaker 1: this building overall? You're shaking your head. Maybe I'm wrong.
[13:09] Speaker 2: So they built, here's my favorite thing, is they built
[13:12] Speaker 2: the top. First of all, you're absolutely correct. They built
[13:14] Speaker 2: it like a shot glass. And then they built the
[13:16] Speaker 2: top as like, hey, we want to make sure it
[13:18] Speaker 2: covers half the field. They did it exclusively for the
[13:21] Speaker 2: sound because in the last preseason game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers,
[13:24] Speaker 2: there was about a 30% capacity. It's preseason game three.
[13:27] Speaker 2: It's a Thursday or Saturday night, rather. The place was
[13:31] Speaker 2: on fire. You could still feel it in your bones.
[13:33] Speaker 2: And what the Pagoula family did was make sure that
[13:36] Speaker 2: they wanted a state-of-the-art facility, but they still wanted to
[13:39] Speaker 2: pay homage or homage, however you want to pronounce that. Fantastic.
[13:44] Speaker 2: That's a huge name for me. Pay homage to what
[13:48] Speaker 2: makes it so unique playing in Buffalo, which is the
[13:50] Speaker 2: Western New York community and the culture surrounding the Buffalo Bills.
[13:54] Speaker 2: They have artwork from local artists all over the place.
[13:58] Speaker 2: The only thing that kind of throws me for a
[14:00] Speaker 2: loop is that there's a lot more bathrooms and no
[14:02] Speaker 2: more troughs. So it's not as grumpy and grimy, but
[14:05] Speaker 2: there's a plethora of them. And the scenes are very
[14:08] Speaker 2: unique to Western New York and the drinks, as you
[14:10] Speaker 2: might as you might know, are flown. And it's a
[14:14] Speaker 2: real fun place to watch football. I'm excited to see
[14:17] Speaker 2: some meaningful football come into that stadium.
[14:19] Speaker 1: Yeah, as a kid who grew up, I used the
[14:20] Speaker 1: word trough. They were going to Cleveland Municipal Stadium. I
[14:24] Speaker 1: hear what you're saying. I buy what you're selling. Can
[14:26] Speaker 1: I ask about the Chiefs real quick?
[14:27] Speaker 2: How do you get to know your neighbors?
[14:28] Speaker 1: I'm sorry, brother.
[14:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, go on.
[14:29] Speaker 1: Exactly. So you used to play for the Chiefs, who
[14:32] Speaker 1: don't remember. Back when the Chiefs ran the football, so
[14:35] Speaker 1: Pat comes back last night, bad knee and all, they
[14:37] Speaker 1: ran the football. Mitch, your old team, are they going
[14:42] Speaker 1: to run the football all year? Or is that just
[14:45] Speaker 1: a one-time thing because Andy wanted to show off on TV?
[14:48] Speaker 2: God, I hope it's not. I mean, that was just
[14:50] Speaker 2: beautiful football. Kenneth Walker, what, 176 yards rushing the football.
[14:56] Speaker 2: It just gives your offense an opportunity to be more multiple,
[15:00] Speaker 2: to get in those first early downs, a more manageable
[15:03] Speaker 2: third down. And what Pat has always been so great
[15:06] Speaker 2: at and we saw early in the game is just
[15:08] Speaker 2: being okay with being bored early and often, right? Like
[15:11] Speaker 2: taking what's there, taking what's available, and then taking the
[15:13] Speaker 2: shots when he needs to. I mean, look at the dude.
[15:15] Speaker 2: The Holy Ghost had entered him, and he takes off
[15:19] Speaker 2: healthy and ever. I mean, listen, as much as the
[15:21] Speaker 2: Bills are slated against the Chiefs, I love Kansas City.
[15:24] Speaker 2: And it's good for football to have Patrick Mahomes back
[15:27] Speaker 2: in the fold. And I still remember when– Oh my gosh,
[15:31] Speaker 2: the last Kareem Hunt in 2017. Being able to run
[15:35] Speaker 2: the football and the dimension that added to that football
[15:38] Speaker 2: club and the alleviated stress of an offensive lineman. And
[15:41] Speaker 2: they have a core offensive line who's been together, if
[15:43] Speaker 2: you said six years, must be an old offensive lineman.
[15:46] Speaker 2: I mean, those three or those two guys, if you
[15:48] Speaker 2: think of Creed Humphreys and Trey Smith, are only in
[15:51] Speaker 2: year six. So there's some vitality in that group. You got,
[15:54] Speaker 2: speaking of vitality, year 15, Travis Kelsey and Holy Spirit
[15:58] Speaker 2: and and that body and those bones moving around. It
[16:01] Speaker 2: was a fun place to see Arrowhead alive and those
[16:04] Speaker 2: guys do their thing.
[16:05] Speaker 1: Mitch, we appreciate you doing this, man. Best of luck
[16:08] Speaker 1: on this second career.
[16:10] Speaker 2: God bless you, Andrew.
[16:10] Speaker 1: Thank you, brother. All right, time for All Shook Up.
[16:14] Speaker 1: I'm not going to sing, but this is Nick Shook,
[16:15] Speaker 1: and he's all shook up. He has his week one takeaways.
[16:17] Speaker 1: They're available on NFL.com. If not, they will soon be shortly.
[16:21] Speaker 1: I honestly thought Cooper Rush, Nick, gave the Falcons a
[16:25] Speaker 1: better chance to win in Pittsburgh. Bucky Brooks called me insane.
[16:28] Speaker 1: Where are the Falcons with their quarterbacks now?
[16:31] Speaker 5: I agree with Bucky. I think it was very, very
[16:34] Speaker 5: rough for the Falcons.
[16:35] Speaker 1: Trying for a viral clip in the segment, something like that, whatever.
[16:38] Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, but you can't do it. That's how
[16:40] Speaker 4: bad he was with this offense. They tried to force
[16:43] Speaker 4: their entire offense through B.
[16:45] Speaker 1: John Robinson. B.
[16:45] Speaker 4: John Robinson got to get that one right. and essentially
[16:49] Speaker 4: it was taken away after the first quarter. They had
[16:50] Speaker 4: a little swing pass for a touchdown. After that, it
[16:52] Speaker 4: was unproductive. We know we saw the highlight with the T.J.
[16:54] Speaker 4: Watt pick six. which was pretty predictable given that they
[16:57] Speaker 4: were trying to check it down. At one point in
[16:58] Speaker 4: this game, most of his passes were behind the line
[17:01] Speaker 4: of scrimmage. It's just you're lacking verticality in this offense, right?
[17:04] Speaker 4: One target and zero catches for Kyle Pitts, too. So
[17:07] Speaker 4: how can you approach the next game if you're Kevin
[17:09] Speaker 4: Stefanski if you know that defenses are going to key
[17:11] Speaker 4: on Bajon and you can't push the ball down the field?
[17:14] Speaker 5: And that makes me.
[17:14] Speaker 4: Wonder how long of a leash is on Cooper Rush
[17:16] Speaker 4: because we don't know when Tua is going to be
[17:18] Speaker 4: ready and when Michael Penix is going to be ready.
[17:20] Speaker 2: Could we see Jack Strand?
[17:22] Speaker 5: That's my question at this point.
[17:23] Speaker 1: You mean this week against the Carolina Rams?
[17:25] Speaker 5: Maybe not this week, but if it gets really bad, maybe.
[17:27] Speaker 6: Okay.
[17:28] Speaker 1: Pennix, I mean, fingers crossed, is back with three. I hope. Potentially.
[17:33] Speaker 1: And the Steelers, without Joey Porter, did not play a
[17:36] Speaker 1: single snap of man the entire game. Didn't need to.
[17:40] Speaker 3: Not one.
[17:41] Speaker 1: Against Cooper Rush, and they win the game in the
[17:44] Speaker 1: end with a T.J. Watt pick six. It was, in
[17:47] Speaker 1: terms of EPA expected points added, nerd notes, nerd numbers,
[17:51] Speaker 1: as he said. We like it. The two worst offensive performances,
[17:56] Speaker 1: it gets me choked up, of any team, the Steelers
[17:58] Speaker 1: and the Falcons, week one. The Ravens, obviously, were a
[18:01] Speaker 1: little bit different. They looked good. I mean, Declan Doyle,
[18:04] Speaker 1: first play from scrimmage. Lamar Jackson, under center boot. To
[18:10] Speaker 1: the left, he's a right-handed quarterback. He had Zay Flowers
[18:12] Speaker 1: for like 50 yards. Is this real or fool's gold
[18:16] Speaker 1: for the Ravens on offense?
[18:18] Speaker 5: I tend to believe that it may be real.
[18:20] Speaker 4: I don't know if you're going to get that performance
[18:21] Speaker 4: from Derrick Henry every week, but the good thing is
[18:24] Speaker 4: he's still Derrick Henry.
[18:25] Speaker 5: Now, you're going to lose Zay Flowers probably for this week.
[18:28] Speaker 4: He's got a hamstring injury, but you got 150 yards
[18:30] Speaker 4: out of him before he exited the Week 1 game,
[18:32] Speaker 4: and he's historically very productive in Week 1. He averages
[18:35] Speaker 4: 102 yards per game, so this is no different. But
[18:38] Speaker 4: now they're going to have to find a different way
[18:40] Speaker 4: to generate yards in the passing game. The good thing
[18:42] Speaker 4: is also that you have Lamar Jackson on this team
[18:44] Speaker 4: who looked fantastic.
[18:45] Speaker 5: Everything worked well.
[18:46] Speaker 4: Declan Doyle is front of the line for coordinator hire
[18:49] Speaker 4: this offseason already after just one week. I am curious
[18:52] Speaker 4: to see, though, how they're going to manage at receiver
[18:54] Speaker 4: if Zay Flowers can't go.
[18:56] Speaker 1: For what it's worth, Gage Larvidan, the former Brown who
[18:59] Speaker 1: made the team last year, got a job last year
[19:01] Speaker 1: as an undrafted rookie free agent, he signed to the
[19:04] Speaker 1: practice squad today. Don't know how long. That Zay is
[19:07] Speaker 1: going to be out. They say he could have come
[19:08] Speaker 1: back in if it had been a playoff game.
[19:10] Speaker 5: Do you want to push it?
[19:12] Speaker 1: I don't know. It's a hamstring. I don't know if
[19:14] Speaker 1: I necessarily buy that. The Ravens back at home. They
[19:16] Speaker 1: get the home opener this week against the Saints. The
[19:19] Speaker 1: Browns are still on the road. They're the only team
[19:21] Speaker 1: that opens with two games, week one and two, in
[19:23] Speaker 1: the state of Florida. And Nick Shook's takeaway number three,
[19:26] Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson is still the Browns' starting quarterback. It's tough.
[19:30] Speaker 1: Nick's a Cleveland native, by the way, for the record.
[19:32] Speaker 4: Yeah, and I was actually at the game against the
[19:34] Speaker 4: Bills in the preseason, and it looked bad. And it
[19:36] Speaker 4: looked bad on Sunday. And I know the numbers kind
[19:38] Speaker 4: of lie when it comes to Deshaun Watson's performance because
[19:40] Speaker 4: completion percentage wise, it was all right. But the first
[19:42] Speaker 4: interception kind of defined the day. It was also the
[19:44] Speaker 4: fact that he was just very inconsistent when it came
[19:47] Speaker 4: to accuracy.
[19:48] Speaker 1: He was under pressure a lot.
[19:49] Speaker 5: And I do give him a break. for that.
[19:50] Speaker 4: But if you're Todd Munkin, you're in your second game
[19:52] Speaker 4: now as Browns head coach, and you're in your second
[19:55] Speaker 4: game on the road in the state of Florida to
[19:56] Speaker 4: start the season, can you really trust Deshaun and really
[20:01] Speaker 4: stand by your word that there were things that I
[20:03] Speaker 4: liked in this tape and I believe that he's going
[20:05] Speaker 4: to improve and it's a work in progress? Are you
[20:07] Speaker 4: really trying to give your team the best chance of victory?
[20:10] Speaker 4: Because with all due respect, I do think that Shador
[20:13] Speaker 4: Sanders probably gives them a better shot.
[20:15] Speaker 1: And Dylan Sampson is on IR. He's not going to
[20:18] Speaker 1: play this week. He's going to be out at least
[20:20] Speaker 1: a month. So the Browns' second-year running back, still only
[20:22] Speaker 1: 21 years old, who is your change of pace back
[20:25] Speaker 1: beyond Quinn John Judkins. And they could not run the
[20:27] Speaker 1: ball at all against Jacksonville. He goes on IR. I
[20:30] Speaker 1: think Jaleel McLaughlin is an interesting, actually like a, Very,
[20:34] Speaker 1: very good practice squad call-up.
[20:36] Speaker 2: Yes.
[20:37] Speaker 1: I'm not just saying this for fantasy, but they have
[20:39] Speaker 1: a tall task this week against, who's the Bucs? Against
[20:44] Speaker 1: Todd Bullis, Baker Mayfield.
[20:45] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[20:46] Speaker 2: Blitzes.
[20:47] Speaker 5: Lots of them.
[20:47] Speaker 1: Real quick, you were at that game against the Bills.
[20:50] Speaker 1: I was at that game. We had Spiders in the booth.
[20:53] Speaker 1: Do you like Spiders?
[20:54] Speaker 4: No, I don't think anybody likes Spiders. I also don't
[20:56] Speaker 4: like Torrential Downpours, which we had some of those that.
[20:57] Speaker 1: Game as well. Yes, but we had Spiders in the booth.
[20:59] Speaker 1: There are also evidently Spiders in Buffalo.
[21:04] Speaker 9: It's a spider. I don't like that. Yeah, he can
[21:16] Speaker 9: feel the vibe. Sometimes when guys are feeling a certain
[21:20] Speaker 9: play and they're vindicated about that play, you're more apt
[21:23] Speaker 9: to call it and it's more apt to be successful.
[21:26] Speaker 1: So I think that's an advantage for sure.
[21:30] Speaker 3: Good?
[21:31] Speaker 1: All right.
[21:31] Speaker 3: Thanks, guys.
[21:32] Speaker 1: He also seems all shook up. Coming up, mention Trevor Lawrence.
[21:37] Speaker 1: He was nearly perfect on Sunday, but was it good
[21:39] Speaker 1: enough to get the Jaguars into Nick's new top five
[21:44] Speaker 1: in the power ranking? Stick around, find out. All right,

[22:12] Speaker 1: Terms and conditions... Do apply. I said there's no news.
[22:17] Speaker 1: I lied. Because week two is not a liar, but
[22:20] Speaker 1: maybe I am today. This is officially from the Seahawks.
[22:22] Speaker 1: John Boyle is one of their in-house reporters. An update
[22:25] Speaker 1: on Sam Darnold's glute injury. It is a very unique
[22:29] Speaker 1: soft tissue injury. The hip joint is unaffected. Short-term injury.
[22:33] Speaker 1: No firm timeline on the return. Pretty much what Ian Rappaport,
[22:37] Speaker 1: Mike Garofalo, Tom Bellicero, all those guys have been saying.
[22:41] Speaker 1: Seahawks play the Cardinals in Arizona this week. Also, speaking
[22:44] Speaker 1: of Mike, Kenneth Murray, former Chargers first-round pick, who started
[22:49] Speaker 1: last year for the Cowboys, visited the Texans because Henry
[22:53] Speaker 1: Tuotuo is expected to miss time with a shoulder injury.
[22:57] Speaker 1: By the way, David Montgomery, speaking of the Texans, will
[23:00] Speaker 1: join us tomorrow on the show. Omar Cooper's probably not
[23:03] Speaker 1: going to play this week for the Jets as they
[23:05] Speaker 1: look to go to 2-0 and they face the Packers.
[23:08] Speaker 1: He is week-to-week. with an ankle sprain. The rookie out
[23:12] Speaker 1: of Indiana had one big play, and it was significant
[23:14] Speaker 1: to the Jets' resounding win in Tennessee over the Titans.
[23:21] Speaker 1: All righty. We've got one more thing before we go,
[23:25] Speaker 1: and our one more thing is actually teasing the next show,
[23:27] Speaker 1: Power Rankings, coming up on this, the NFL channel. Nick Shooks,
[23:32] Speaker 1: hot off the press, on NFL.com, power rankings. The Seahawks
[23:36] Speaker 1: are the new number one. The Bills, the Ravens, the
[23:40] Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals. What? They have one good defensive day and
[23:44] Speaker 1: you put up a number four? What, are we kidding me? Jacksonville, Denver,
[23:49] Speaker 1: the Rams, and the Bears. The rest of the list,
[23:51] Speaker 1: the other 75% of the list, as mentioned, soon to
[23:54] Speaker 1: be unveiled. Where do we go here? You want to
[23:56] Speaker 1: go Broncos? Yeah, we'll go Broncos. They looked as bad
[23:59] Speaker 1: as any one of their... Six? Yeah.
[24:03] Speaker 5: And the reason is they were number two.
[24:04] Speaker 1: They were number two.
[24:05] Speaker 5: We don't want to overreact to week one.
[24:07] Speaker 9: No.
[24:07] Speaker 5: We'll drop them four spots.
[24:09] Speaker 1: Doing week one power rankings is miserable.
[24:12] Speaker 3: It is.
[24:12] Speaker 1: Because you don't know, is any of this real?
[24:14] Speaker 2: It's all a lie.
[24:15] Speaker 1: The power rankings are real, and they're coming up next.
[24:18] Speaker 1: Nick Shook has said rankings. And Colleen.
