[0:08] Speaker 1: So far, so fun.
[0:09] Speaker 2: Joe Burrows had great things to say about his Bengals seam,
[0:12] Speaker 2: his coach returning the favor for the quarterback. We'll hear
[0:15] Speaker 2: what Zach Taylor had to say ahead of twenty twenty six.
[0:17] Speaker 2: Nikobe Dean and the new arrivals in Las Vegas hope
[0:20] Speaker 2: to surpass everyone's expectations for the Raiders. He tells us
[0:24] Speaker 2: how they might do that and why someone might be
[0:27] Speaker 2: doing more than raising the bar and case concepts. Young
[0:30] Speaker 2: gets a first hands view of one of the more
[0:33] Speaker 2: hotly contested quarterback competitions this offseason. We'll get insight from
[0:37] Speaker 2: him and info from the rests as The Insiders starts
[0:40] Speaker 2: right now, everybody, Welcome.
[0:42] Speaker 1: To The Insiders.
[0:43] Speaker 2: Patrick claiboun here with Judy Batista as Judy. We're about
[0:45] Speaker 2: a month and a couple of days away from veterans
[0:48] Speaker 2: starting to report to a lot of training camps. But
[0:50] Speaker 2: despite having to wait, we still got news coming into
[0:53] Speaker 2: the nfl LA newsroom today. You see here in this
[0:57] Speaker 2: suite from ESPN's Adam Schefter yarding the CFL and former
[1:02] Speaker 2: Indiana and Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sooresby, it appears the options
[1:05] Speaker 2: for him to play football this calendar year appear to
[1:08] Speaker 2: have been exhausted. The CFL set in a statement today,
[1:11] Speaker 2: quote upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair
[1:14] Speaker 2: competition are paramount to the CFL. The allegations involving Brendan
[1:19] Speaker 2: Sorosby are serious and concerning. To get to the players
[1:24] Speaker 2: who have made it to the national football lead. The
[1:26] Speaker 2: Dallas Cowboys twenty twenty six training camp starts July twenty eighth,
[1:30] Speaker 2: and the familiar and friendly confines of Oxnard, California. Looking
[1:34] Speaker 2: forward to Cowboys training camp. Let's discuss Dallas as we
[1:36] Speaker 2: say hello to our Jane Slater and Steve Wish joining
[1:39] Speaker 2: us here in the nfl LA newsroom. Dallas working to
[1:42] Speaker 2: get back to the playoffs. It appears that that is
[1:44] Speaker 2: the bare minimum goal for the Cowboys.
[1:46] Speaker 1: Jaye.
[1:49] Speaker 3: Yeah, if you talk to a lot of folks around here,
[1:51] Speaker 3: lifetime fans, that is the bare minimum. But you know,
[1:54] Speaker 3: they're taking a step further and they want to make
[1:56] Speaker 3: it to the Super Bowl, and in order to do that,
[1:59] Speaker 3: they really had to improve the defense. Patrick, I mean,
[2:01] Speaker 3: this was a bottom of the league defense in several metrics,
[2:04] Speaker 3: and when you look at this team in spite of that,
[2:07] Speaker 3: they still went forward to in the division. So if
[2:11] Speaker 3: they can just get a middle of the pack defense
[2:13] Speaker 3: and they continue on what they were building on offense,
[2:16] Speaker 3: this team could be very dangerous. And I think that's
[2:18] Speaker 3: why when you hear a lot of people talk about
[2:20] Speaker 3: this team, they have such high hopes for them. Obviously,
[2:24] Speaker 3: the biggest thing is going to be injuries. They dealt
[2:26] Speaker 3: with a lot of injuries last year that had a
[2:28] Speaker 3: lot to do with some of the defensive problems.
[2:31] Speaker 1: But I think more importantly the.
[2:32] Speaker 3: Fact it seems like fingers crossed this team might be
[2:36] Speaker 3: heading into a training camp without any holdouts, hold ends,
[2:39] Speaker 3: or any off the field issues. George Pickens showing up
[2:43] Speaker 3: to mini camp really sent a strong message about this team,
[2:46] Speaker 3: and they had pretty much the entire team this offseason
[2:50] Speaker 3: buying into the OTAs You've got Javonte Williams signed Hero
[2:54] Speaker 3: as a running back. So on paper, this team looks
[2:57] Speaker 3: poised to make a run. But I always love when
[2:59] Speaker 3: we try to make these predictions early. There's so much
[3:02] Speaker 3: that goes into these things. But at least they've been
[3:04] Speaker 3: intentional in trying to get to that spot.
[3:07] Speaker 2: Trying to get there and he goes Brian Schotenhammer, Judy
[3:09] Speaker 2: not running away from the ultimate goal that he and
[3:12] Speaker 2: every coach in the NFL have this offseason.
[3:17] Speaker 4: I love that Shoddy looks like the most mild mannered
[3:20] Speaker 4: man and then he is the one.
[3:21] Speaker 1: Who comes out.
[3:22] Speaker 4: He beats Jerry Jones to the punch and says like
[3:24] Speaker 4: we should be in the Super Bowl right. So I
[3:27] Speaker 4: love the optimism. As Jane pointed out, this is all
[3:30] Speaker 4: about how fast the defense can come along. There hasn't
[3:33] Speaker 4: been a question about this offense being Super Bowl ready
[3:36] Speaker 4: for a number of years. It is the defense that
[3:39] Speaker 4: has held them back. Now they've done an awful lot.
[3:41] Speaker 4: Of course, they have Quentnin Williams now for an entire offseason.
[3:44] Speaker 4: They got Rashaan Gary, they drafted Caleb Downs. Christian Parker
[3:49] Speaker 4: is the new defensive coordinator. If all of the pieces
[3:52] Speaker 4: can come together and they can get an improved defense,
[3:56] Speaker 4: certainly they should be certainly in the playoff mix. The
[3:59] Speaker 4: question about can they get to the Super Bowl, I mean,
[4:01] Speaker 4: can they just win a few playoff games? First, I
[4:05] Speaker 4: go back to twenty twenty three, when they had the
[4:07] Speaker 4: number one offense in the league and the number five
[4:09] Speaker 4: defense in the league. They had a home playoff game
[4:12] Speaker 4: and they lost in the wildcard round to the Packers.
[4:14] Speaker 4: So just slow down, win a playoff game, win another
[4:18] Speaker 4: playoff game. They certainly have the wherewithal to do it,
[4:21] Speaker 4: as long as that defense comes together quickly this season.
[4:24] Speaker 5: So now don't he want the Cowboys to be talking
[4:28] Speaker 5: all of this up. I mean, this is who they are,
[4:30] Speaker 5: and you know, look, we know that the defense is
[4:33] Speaker 5: the issue, but a lot of things do have to
[4:36] Speaker 5: work together. Is George Pickens going to continue to do
[4:39] Speaker 5: his thing? He could ceedee lamb this offense again. We
[4:42] Speaker 5: do love it. I want to go back to Christian Parker,
[4:44] Speaker 5: the defensive coordinator of vic Fangio Protege. He's somebody in
[4:48] Speaker 5: coaching circles for years, people saying this is the next one.
[4:51] Speaker 5: If he can get this defense going again, it's going
[4:55] Speaker 5: to be good. I love the defensive front with Kenny
[4:57] Speaker 5: Clark and Rashan Gary and.
[4:59] Speaker 1: You know, Winning Williams.
[5:01] Speaker 5: But they're gonna have to hold up the whole season
[5:03] Speaker 5: long because you know the linebackers behind him.
[5:05] Speaker 1: You know, you've got Damarian over showing his back.
[5:07] Speaker 5: He's got de Winters who just came over from San Francisco.
[5:10] Speaker 5: But these guys are light man. These are like two
[5:12] Speaker 5: hundred and twenty five pounds inside linebackers. If that defensive
[5:15] Speaker 5: front has some type of injury, a team start to
[5:17] Speaker 5: load up in the run game, especially attack those very
[5:21] Speaker 5: quick and very good, but smallest inside linebackers. That's where
[5:24] Speaker 5: there could be some cheeks in the armor. But again, Judy,
[5:26] Speaker 5: as you said, on paper, they do look more poised
[5:30] Speaker 5: to make a run into the playoffs, and we've seen
[5:32] Speaker 5: the last couple of.
[5:33] Speaker 1: Years, and the thing is that's alarming.
[5:36] Speaker 2: As Jane and the Cowboys were set to come out
[5:37] Speaker 2: here in Oxnard in a month and change, it seems
[5:40] Speaker 2: like an aggressively regular offseason for the Dallas Cowboys. We
[5:43] Speaker 2: still got some time for the Big Boss, Thank.
[5:56] Speaker 1: You, James.
[5:57] Speaker 2: Joe Burrow and the Bengals look forward to training camp
[5:59] Speaker 2: on the twenty eighth as well. Joe has had some
[6:01] Speaker 2: high praise for this edition of the Bengals, comparing them
[6:04] Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago to his undefeated twenty nineteen
[6:07] Speaker 2: LSU Tigers head coach Zach Taylor.
[6:09] Speaker 1: Fine with that or anything else the leader wants to
[6:12] Speaker 1: do for the Bengals.
[6:15] Speaker 6: He's just calling for a whole team, all the extra
[6:17] Speaker 6: work he gets in the expectation when he walks on
[6:19] Speaker 6: the field and he says to huddle, everybody knows what
[6:22] Speaker 6: time it is. When he walks out there and is
[6:24] Speaker 6: ready to role, and he demands the best from everybody, coaches, employers,
[6:27] Speaker 6: that's what you got to win. That's what you got
[6:29] Speaker 6: to have to be able to win in this league.
[6:30] Speaker 6: And we've got it and I'm grateful he's our quarterback.
[6:33] Speaker 6: It's been great seeing his growths that way. I would
[6:35] Speaker 6: think he changed too much as a person and a player,
[6:38] Speaker 6: but just the things that he's been able to store
[6:40] Speaker 6: away that's going to help him be a great player
[6:42] Speaker 6: is what's been really fun to watch over his seven years, all.
[6:46] Speaker 2: Of those seven years with Zach Taylor as the head coach, Shotie.
[6:49] Speaker 1: The big question though, for the.
[6:50] Speaker 2: Two time Comeback Player of the Year is will he
[6:53] Speaker 2: have to come back again as they've had to deal
[6:56] Speaker 2: with these injuries for their quarterback for several years now.
[7:01] Speaker 4: Certainly, this is a more well balanced Cincinnati Bengals team
[7:05] Speaker 4: than we've seen in a number of years. With Joe Burrow,
[7:07] Speaker 4: they really invested in their defense, They broke character, and
[7:10] Speaker 4: when I got Dexter Lawrence from the New York Giants,
[7:13] Speaker 4: so they finally acknowledged I had to do something about
[7:16] Speaker 4: the defense. But everything hinches on if Joe Burrow can
[7:19] Speaker 4: stay on the field. When he's on the field, he
[7:22] Speaker 4: is one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
[7:24] Speaker 1: That is not an argument.
[7:26] Speaker 4: But look at this injury history, including injuries that he
[7:29] Speaker 4: had in training camp that sort of kept him out
[7:31] Speaker 4: of training camp. This though, has been to their benefit,
[7:35] Speaker 4: a very quiet offseason.
[7:37] Speaker 1: Everybody's been there.
[7:38] Speaker 4: There's been no contract situations, there's been no significant injuries.
[7:42] Speaker 4: So they are going into the season into the training
[7:45] Speaker 4: camp in about as good a state as they have
[7:47] Speaker 4: been in the Joe Burrow era. They've got to keep
[7:51] Speaker 4: him on the field. He has to stay on the
[7:53] Speaker 4: field for them to be contenders. We saw when they
[7:55] Speaker 4: made that run to the Super Bowl. If he's on
[7:59] Speaker 4: the field, they are super Bowl caliber team. They certainly
[8:02] Speaker 4: haven't improved defense. They can do it this year as
[8:05] Speaker 4: long as Joe Burrow is there.
[8:07] Speaker 5: One thousand percent, Judy, but that's most teams are the
[8:09] Speaker 5: starting quarterback.
[8:10] Speaker 1: We know Joe Burrow is arguably like he's the Kobe Bryant.
[8:14] Speaker 5: To me, when it comes to quarterbacks, you got the
[8:16] Speaker 5: killer instinct and things like this, But look at how
[8:18] Speaker 5: many games where they scored forty points or in the
[8:20] Speaker 5: mid to high thirties and they still lost. This is
[8:23] Speaker 5: where again you talk about the Bengals breaking character. It's
[8:27] Speaker 5: what they finally realized that they had to do. They
[8:29] Speaker 5: go out and they get Dexter Lawrence. They go out
[8:32] Speaker 5: and they signed boy A Mafe, They get Jonathan Allen,
[8:36] Speaker 5: then they add the secondary Brian Cook and Kyle Duggar.
[8:40] Speaker 5: They drafted defensive players high and they have not landed
[8:43] Speaker 5: those types of players. So now they get aggressive. They
[8:46] Speaker 5: trade a first round pick to get Dexter Lawrence. They
[8:48] Speaker 5: understand now is their time. They look at the rest
[8:51] Speaker 5: of the upheaval in their division. They're in the AFC nors,
[8:53] Speaker 5: some of the changes that are going on. It is
[8:56] Speaker 5: ripe for this team to make a move and if
[8:58] Speaker 5: they win that division to get an the playoffs. With
[9:00] Speaker 5: that quarterback, I'm calling Kobe Joe. That's going to be
[9:04] Speaker 5: his new name. He's got the mamba mentality. This is
[9:07] Speaker 5: a team that can make a lot of noise going
[9:09] Speaker 5: through the AFC.
[9:10] Speaker 2: Yeah, the Bengals three highest scoring games for their offense
[9:13] Speaker 2: last season, they able to lose two of them.
[9:16] Speaker 1: Of course, Joe Flacco involved in one of those starts.
[9:18] Speaker 2: So regardless of who the defense has to improve, We'll
[9:22] Speaker 2: be back with Judy Batista and Steve Why should we
[9:24] Speaker 2: continue here on The Insiders are coming up year thirty.
[9:29] Speaker 1: Of the Manning Passing Academy.
[9:31] Speaker 2: We'll get a chance to hear from Eli on a
[9:33] Speaker 2: one on one with our ratt Lewis when we come back,
[9:39] Speaker 2: as well as looking at the new look Las Vegas
[9:42] Speaker 2: Raiders defense.
[9:43] Speaker 1: Super Bowl champion Nakobe Dean joins the show.
[9:47] Speaker 2: To tell us just how they will improve that side
[9:50] Speaker 2: of the football that's coming up on the NFL Network.
[9:59] Speaker 2: Plenty of turnover in the desert as you look at
[10:02] Speaker 2: the additions for the Las Vegas Raiders. They changed the
[10:04] Speaker 2: head coach, they draft the number one overall pick at quarterback,
[10:08] Speaker 2: and then there's the acquisition of the national champion in college,
[10:11] Speaker 2: the Super Bowl champion in the pros, the Kobe Dean
[10:14] Speaker 2: and the Kobe Dean joining us now on this edition
[10:17] Speaker 2: of The Insiders. Welcome to the show. N Kobe having
[10:21] Speaker 2: all that success everywhere you've been. What's been the biggest
[10:24] Speaker 2: change is the process of acclimating to a new team
[10:27] Speaker 2: and a new franchise and a new coach.
[10:29] Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean this is my it's my second team
[10:32] Speaker 7: in the NFL now, so all I've known is the
[10:36] Speaker 7: Philadelphia Eagles. So it's been it's definitely been process of
[10:41] Speaker 7: trying to get to know new people, trying to get
[10:43] Speaker 7: to know the defense, trying to get to know the
[10:46] Speaker 7: care to, trying to you know, try to get to
[10:49] Speaker 7: know names. That's the big think me is trying to
[10:50] Speaker 7: get to know everybody's name initially. So it definitely been
[10:54] Speaker 7: in process, but I've been enjoining every step of it.
[10:56] Speaker 8: Don't blizz the.
[10:57] Speaker 1: Kobe real quick.
[10:58] Speaker 5: I can't help but notice some writings are something behind
[11:02] Speaker 5: you on the wall?
[11:03] Speaker 1: What exactly is that?
[11:05] Speaker 7: Yes, my girlfriend is studying for the bar out here
[11:09] Speaker 7: in Nevada, so she's been working hall. She got steaking
[11:11] Speaker 7: those all over my offices right now. Yes, yeah, she
[11:17] Speaker 7: got out the home thing going.
[11:18] Speaker 1: Well, I like that way to be there and way
[11:20] Speaker 1: to be supportive.
[11:21] Speaker 5: Hey, one thing we came into the second we showed
[11:24] Speaker 5: some of the notable additions to this team. But when
[11:26] Speaker 5: I look at the veteran free agency that the Raiders
[11:28] Speaker 5: added to yourself, Quay Walker, tarn Johnson, Tyler Linderbaum, Quitt
[11:32] Speaker 5: he pay Connor Heyward, Spencer Bufort. You all have come
[11:36] Speaker 5: from teams that have had consistently sustained success. What about
[11:41] Speaker 5: adding guys who've won in the NFL all to one
[11:45] Speaker 5: team to try to change the culture there in Las Vegas.
[11:48] Speaker 8: Yeah, we know what it takes.
[11:50] Speaker 7: You know, you come, you bring guys and coaches from
[11:53] Speaker 7: teams that have one and know how to win.
[11:56] Speaker 8: You kind of.
[11:58] Speaker 7: You build a culture that you're trying to the culture
[12:00] Speaker 7: of winning, and that's really the biggest thing. We kind
[12:04] Speaker 7: of know that at the end of the day, the
[12:06] Speaker 7: home thing that matters in the NFL is winning games,
[12:09] Speaker 7: and that's what we're trying to do.
[12:12] Speaker 5: So I mentioned Kaid Walker who comes over from Green Bay.
[12:14] Speaker 5: You guys played side by side together at the University
[12:18] Speaker 5: of Georgia one and national championship with Quay. What about
[12:21] Speaker 5: you guys reuniting lining up next to each other and
[12:24] Speaker 5: how good of a tandem can you be?
[12:27] Speaker 7: I feel like this is Scott not even the limit
[12:29] Speaker 7: for how good we can be. I feel like, for
[12:32] Speaker 7: a lot of us on the team, our base ball
[12:36] Speaker 7: have not even been played yet, so all we're all
[12:38] Speaker 7: taking it day at a time, like him, him, me
[12:42] Speaker 7: and quit coming in and combining as a right now connection.
[12:48] Speaker 7: But we can be real with each other right now,
[12:49] Speaker 7: and we also push each other to be our best.
[12:51] Speaker 7: So it's also the healthy level of competition between me
[12:56] Speaker 7: and him going back and forth. But like I said,
[12:59] Speaker 7: we just got a team to take it the day
[13:01] Speaker 7: at a time and continue to push each other and
[13:03] Speaker 7: push the whole team to try to be the absolute
[13:06] Speaker 7: biz versus ourself.
[13:07] Speaker 2: As you try to reach those versions, I want to
[13:10] Speaker 2: try to get you to compare and contrast because you
[13:12] Speaker 2: go from Vic Fangio, who's had that defensive coordinator job
[13:15] Speaker 2: in the league for a long time, to Rob Leonard,
[13:17] Speaker 2: who's been a coach since twenty thirteen, but this is
[13:20] Speaker 2: his first time getting that chance to call defensive plays.
[13:23] Speaker 2: What's the difference the biggest difference between those two.
[13:27] Speaker 7: It's a lot of I say, give and go. We
[13:31] Speaker 7: just kind of learning each other. He leaning on us,
[13:35] Speaker 7: we lean on him.
[13:36] Speaker 8: Were just kind of trying.
[13:37] Speaker 7: To figure each other out, and we just he asked
[13:40] Speaker 7: us a lot of questions me Quai Quit.
[13:43] Speaker 8: Everybody you know, and the.
[13:45] Speaker 7: Staff kind of everybody works with him to try.
[13:48] Speaker 1: To make this thing work.
[13:51] Speaker 7: But it's something that we call our own and we
[13:54] Speaker 7: just putting it together. Were putting it together, and we
[13:57] Speaker 7: just trying to make some great out of.
[14:00] Speaker 1: Interesting so putting it together.
[14:01] Speaker 5: One of the key players on this defense is you
[14:03] Speaker 5: have to really take the field with you guys.
[14:04] Speaker 1: Is Max Crosby Is he kind of comes back from
[14:07] Speaker 1: that injury. What has it been?
[14:09] Speaker 9: You know?
[14:09] Speaker 5: I know Max is around the building, like being around
[14:11] Speaker 5: him and the energy he brings because right now he's
[14:14] Speaker 5: still been the face of that franchise.
[14:16] Speaker 7: Right yeah, I mean his presidences failed. Max presidents failed
[14:21] Speaker 7: every day. Even though he hasn't been out there on
[14:23] Speaker 7: the field of this, he's out there out there working.
[14:26] Speaker 7: We see him working and rehabbing every day. His positive
[14:32] Speaker 7: attitude is infectious. He says what's up to everybody. You
[14:35] Speaker 7: can kind of see how he know everybody. So it's
[14:38] Speaker 7: kind of like when I me coming in and not
[14:40] Speaker 7: knowing nobody. I'm trying to learn everybody's name and trying
[14:43] Speaker 7: to be able to tap up everybody the way he does.
[14:46] Speaker 7: But like like I said, his positive energy is infectious
[14:50] Speaker 7: even not being on the field, so you can tell
[14:53] Speaker 7: he really wants to win. He ready to get to it.
[14:56] Speaker 7: So I'm excited. I can't wait to have him on
[14:59] Speaker 7: the field.
[15:00] Speaker 2: This the positive energy that you mentioned about Max Crosby.
[15:03] Speaker 2: That's the thing a lot of people have said about
[15:05] Speaker 2: the number one overall pick coming off from fresh off
[15:07] Speaker 2: of Hitters National Championship. Have you been able to pick
[15:10] Speaker 2: up on any of that. What were your first impressions
[15:12] Speaker 2: when you got to meet Fernando?
[15:14] Speaker 1: I mean somebody.
[15:18] Speaker 7: They used a new word or you know, he got
[15:20] Speaker 7: a lot of oil, a lot of or around him,
[15:24] Speaker 7: you know, just being He like a guy with a
[15:27] Speaker 7: lot of like positive and fixing activity, positive and fixious
[15:33] Speaker 7: energy around him. You know, you always always smiling. He
[15:35] Speaker 7: always got a smile. Every time I've seen he got
[15:38] Speaker 7: a smile on his face. Uh, he always got some
[15:41] Speaker 7: some nice to say. You always seeing what's up to
[15:42] Speaker 7: you no matter what. And I've just seen it around
[15:45] Speaker 7: and you know, my first crisis of him has been
[15:47] Speaker 7: a great And I think, Uh, you got a coaches dad,
[15:51] Speaker 7: you got an offense, got a team that's ready to
[15:53] Speaker 7: you know, ride it behind him, and you know, get
[15:56] Speaker 7: the best out of it.
[15:57] Speaker 1: Speak of smile, smiles on faces.
[15:59] Speaker 2: We're gonna have the opportunity for the back to school
[16:01] Speaker 2: event coming up July eleventh and horn Lake telling people
[16:04] Speaker 2: what they can expect.
[16:06] Speaker 7: Yes, it's like a bad school giveaway, and I think
[16:10] Speaker 7: this will probably be my biggest one I've done, and
[16:13] Speaker 7: I'm doing it through my cond Hearts for Life Foundation
[16:17] Speaker 7: in Honlean, Mississippi. That's why I went to school. I
[16:20] Speaker 7: graduated from Hornleay High School. So they can expect us
[16:24] Speaker 7: to giveaway school supplies, book bags, we got venites coming out.
[16:28] Speaker 7: We got bouncy house, bounce house, the snow cones. It's
[16:31] Speaker 7: kind of like a community event, try to have a
[16:33] Speaker 7: little fun. We also give back to the community and
[16:37] Speaker 7: get the keys ready for school.
[16:38] Speaker 2: Well, getting ready for school something that I'm sure it
[16:41] Speaker 2: feels like you're doing with all of Gabrielle's preparation behind you.
[16:44] Speaker 1: Good luck for her in the bar examp.
[16:47] Speaker 2: Look, you're getting your office back, and good luck for
[16:49] Speaker 2: you and the raiders here in twenty twenty sixth to cope.
[16:51] Speaker 8: Yeah, I appreciate y'all having.
[16:54] Speaker 2: The CFL released the statement regarding the potential application of
[16:58] Speaker 2: Brendan's sours be to the league in the fourth week
[17:01] Speaker 2: of its season. They said no thanks, Britain Sowersby would
[17:06] Speaker 2: still have to wait for the twenty twenty seven NFL
[17:09] Speaker 2: Draft for his next professional football opportunity. Let's look at
[17:12] Speaker 2: some previous head coaches, in fact, head coaches in twenty
[17:15] Speaker 2: twenty five, like Brian day Ball, Mike McDaniel, Jonathan Gann,
[17:18] Speaker 2: and Raheem Morris, all back in the coordinator spots that year,
[17:21] Speaker 2: joined back again by Judy Batista and Steve Weis. Where
[17:25] Speaker 2: these guys have an opportunity. What kind of impact can
[17:27] Speaker 2: they have as former head coaches?
[17:28] Speaker 5: Yeah, and I want to start with Brian Dayball right here,
[17:30] Speaker 5: because going to Tennessee.
[17:31] Speaker 1: First off, their offense is so bad.
[17:33] Speaker 5: Dave Ball's got an opportunity to get cam Ward and
[17:36] Speaker 5: get this offense going. They've got some good skilled position players,
[17:40] Speaker 5: you know they go out. They've got some wide receivers.
[17:43] Speaker 5: They brought Wandelle Robinson over the draft of carnellal Tape
[17:46] Speaker 5: with the first round draft pick.
[17:47] Speaker 1: But the first thing that Brian day Ball has.
[17:49] Speaker 5: Got to do is in still some type of discipline.
[17:51] Speaker 5: The Tennessee Titans were next to last in penalties. So
[17:55] Speaker 5: many positive plays turned into negative yards and negative yards.
[17:58] Speaker 5: They've got to get that tightened up, Judy. But one
[18:00] Speaker 5: thing about day Ball. His Giants were just two slots
[18:03] Speaker 5: behind the Titans when it comes to penalties, fourth worst
[18:06] Speaker 5: in the NFL.
[18:07] Speaker 1: So overall discipline has got to be tightened up.
[18:11] Speaker 4: I actually have high hopes for this marriage because Brian
[18:14] Speaker 4: Daball really liked cam Ward. When cam Ward was coming
[18:17] Speaker 4: out of college, he had looked at him because of
[18:20] Speaker 4: course the Giants were in the market for a quarterback
[18:23] Speaker 4: as well, and so he'd done a lot of research.
[18:25] Speaker 4: He really liked his football intelligence, his accuracy obviously, the athleticism,
[18:29] Speaker 4: the ability to sort of make something out of broken place.
[18:33] Speaker 4: So Brian Daball went in certainly with an idea of
[18:37] Speaker 4: what he would have in cam Ward and what he
[18:40] Speaker 4: could do with him. I think you're going to see
[18:43] Speaker 4: a more confident cam Ward because that is something that
[18:45] Speaker 4: Brian Dable is really good at. He really likes quarterbacks
[18:50] Speaker 4: who understand what they're looking at, who understand why things
[18:53] Speaker 4: are going bad, why understands why things are good. And
[18:56] Speaker 4: he has already said so far this offseason that cam
[18:58] Speaker 4: Ward is doing that. Think this is going to be
[19:00] Speaker 4: a pretty good marriage and he'll get a lot out
[19:02] Speaker 4: of cam work.
[19:03] Speaker 5: Yeah, you would think that that the era's only pointed
[19:05] Speaker 5: up for cam Ward. I think what now, let's go
[19:07] Speaker 5: to Mike McDaniel going to a situation with the Chargers
[19:10] Speaker 5: where he's got his quarterback. He's got Justin Herbert, there's
[19:13] Speaker 5: no questions about that. He walks into a very rich
[19:16] Speaker 5: situation offensively, Judy Omarion Hampton the running back.
[19:20] Speaker 1: They added, David Njoku the tight end.
[19:22] Speaker 5: He's already got Lad McConkie and a nice group of
[19:25] Speaker 5: wide receivers right there.
[19:27] Speaker 1: And an offensive line is going to get for Shaun
[19:29] Speaker 1: Slater and Joe alt Back.
[19:30] Speaker 5: Now he is changing to that outside run, that zone
[19:34] Speaker 5: run scheme system, which is something everyone's gonna have to
[19:37] Speaker 5: adjust to. So don't be surprised if they get off
[19:39] Speaker 5: to somewhat of a slow start while they get adjusted
[19:41] Speaker 5: to that scheme. But once it gets clicked and there's
[19:43] Speaker 5: an opportunity for big things. The main thing for the
[19:47] Speaker 5: Chargers is just to finish so they can win some
[19:50] Speaker 5: playoff games.
[19:51] Speaker 1: That's the hump. We'll see if Mike McDaniels can get
[19:53] Speaker 1: this offense over.
[19:56] Speaker 4: And stay healthy. Mike McDaniel can't control that. But one
[19:59] Speaker 4: thing I like that he said, I'm trying to find
[20:02] Speaker 4: the margins. Mike McDaniel knows he does not have to
[20:05] Speaker 4: blow up this offense. He has an elite quarterback in
[20:07] Speaker 4: Justin Herbert, and so one of the things he's been
[20:09] Speaker 4: doing this offseason is working on Justin Herbert's footwork, and
[20:13] Speaker 4: the idea there is to get the footwork better so
[20:16] Speaker 4: that he can get rid of the ball quicker, and
[20:19] Speaker 4: that would lead to getting the ball to receivers in
[20:22] Speaker 4: stride so they can get more yards after the catch.
[20:24] Speaker 4: That's something they've been working on. But I do like
[20:27] Speaker 4: the humility that Mike McDaniel's showing and acknowledging. I don't
[20:31] Speaker 4: have to blow up this offense. I got Justin Herbert.
[20:33] Speaker 4: I've got plenty of weapons here. I just have to
[20:35] Speaker 4: tinker with it a little bit.
[20:38] Speaker 1: Humility.
[20:38] Speaker 5: No fashion game right there, because Jim Harmond's got the
[20:41] Speaker 5: fashion statements there with the head coach doesn't have to
[20:44] Speaker 5: be Mike McDaniel.
[20:45] Speaker 1: Let's go to rich Gannon now of course in Arizona.
[20:48] Speaker 5: Just a really tough situation there, didn't win ball games,
[20:50] Speaker 5: didn't establish an identity. So now he takes over a Packers'
[20:54] Speaker 5: defense that was just above the middle of the pack,
[20:56] Speaker 5: but won't have Micah Parsons back from probably.
[20:59] Speaker 1: The star of the season.
[21:00] Speaker 5: He's expected to start on pup as he recovered from
[21:03] Speaker 5: that ACL and moniscus knee surgery. Now Gannon has They've
[21:07] Speaker 5: changed some pieces on that offense. They know we talk
[21:10] Speaker 5: about they lost kway Walker. They replace him with the
[21:12] Speaker 5: tackling machine zire or Franklin. But Gannon is somebody in
[21:15] Speaker 5: Philadelphia did some very good things defensively, got him to
[21:18] Speaker 5: the Super Bowl. He's got to move some pieces around.
[21:21] Speaker 5: Luke van Ness is going to have to be his
[21:23] Speaker 5: leading edge rusher. Gannon's got to get something out of
[21:25] Speaker 5: him in a division where we know offense couple points
[21:28] Speaker 5: on the board. So again we'll see if Gannon can
[21:31] Speaker 5: find his mojo that seemed to get lost in Arizona
[21:34] Speaker 5: over the past three seasons.
[21:37] Speaker 4: You know, one of the things Jonathan Gannon is known
[21:39] Speaker 4: for is like there's no Jonathan Gannon defense. He's very adaptable.
[21:44] Speaker 4: He adapts to whatever he's got. What his players can
[21:47] Speaker 4: do best. He doesn't go in and try to force
[21:49] Speaker 4: them into his scheme. That's all well and good, but
[21:52] Speaker 4: I feel like we're probably at the end of the
[21:54] Speaker 4: season going to have to give Jonathan Gennon an incomplete
[21:57] Speaker 4: grade because we're not going to know what this defense
[22:01] Speaker 4: is going to be. We're certainly not going to know
[22:03] Speaker 4: how it's going to be able to perform at its
[22:05] Speaker 4: peak without Michael Parsons on the field regularly, and we
[22:09] Speaker 4: don't know yet how long he is going to be back.
[22:11] Speaker 4: We know it's probably going to be at least the
[22:13] Speaker 4: first month and maybe the first half.
[22:15] Speaker 1: Of the season.
[22:16] Speaker 4: Again, it's going to be hard to tell what they
[22:18] Speaker 4: can do. He's going to have to mix and match.
[22:19] Speaker 4: He's really good at doing that until MICHAELH. Parson's get
[22:23] Speaker 4: on the field. But we know how important Micah is.
[22:25] Speaker 4: It is a different coordinator, a different season, but after
[22:29] Speaker 4: he got hurt last year, the Packers.
[22:31] Speaker 1: Did not win another game.
[22:32] Speaker 4: So Jonathan Gannon is going to have to just sit
[22:35] Speaker 4: tight and wait for his man to get back out there.
[22:37] Speaker 2: And the through line for a lot of these coaches
[22:39] Speaker 2: will be talent deficits at key positions. When they ultimately
[22:42] Speaker 2: got fired they all find jobs, especially Jonathan Gannon as
[22:46] Speaker 2: Michael Parsons you talked about, Mike McDaniel and Justin Herbert.
[22:49] Speaker 2: Those things get better. You find yourself back in a
[22:52] Speaker 2: head coaching position sooner rather than later. Thanks to Gigi
[22:55] Speaker 2: Vatisa and Steve why should, we've got an opportunity.
[22:57] Speaker 1: For season six. We'll tight end in Nashville this week.
[23:01] Speaker 1: We're the top tight ends of the league gathered to
[23:03] Speaker 1: exchange the tools and tips of the trade. One of them,
[23:06] Speaker 1: Trey McBride, coming off.
[23:07] Speaker 2: A huge touchdown season, had sixty percent over sixty percent
[23:11] Speaker 2: of his career touchdowns last year, goes one on one
[23:14] Speaker 2: with the ESPN's Lindsey Theory.
[23:18] Speaker 10: Trey, your return student at tight End University. What keeps
[23:22] Speaker 10: bringing you back here?
[23:23] Speaker 11: I think just the camaraderie being around all the guys
[23:26] Speaker 11: to come out here and see the fans, to learn
[23:29] Speaker 11: a little bit. It's just such a fun week and
[23:31] Speaker 11: I always have a blast out here.
[23:33] Speaker 10: A two hour film session. What kind of tricks are
[23:35] Speaker 10: you guys trading in there?
[23:36] Speaker 11: Yeah, they're showing you know, clips of each other, you know,
[23:39] Speaker 11: route running, what they're looking at, different run blocking techniques,
[23:43] Speaker 11: how they do their job, and you're get to listen
[23:45] Speaker 11: to some of the top guys in the NFL or
[23:48] Speaker 11: guys that played.
[23:48] Speaker 8: At a really high level.
[23:49] Speaker 11: So it's really cool to to pick their brains and
[23:52] Speaker 11: figure out what they're doing with.
[23:53] Speaker 1: Everything you learn.
[23:54] Speaker 10: How much do you actually take back and how are
[23:57] Speaker 10: you able to implement it?
[23:58] Speaker 11: Yeah, as much as I can. Try to take one
[24:00] Speaker 11: or two things a year and apply it to my
[24:02] Speaker 11: own game. It's really cool to listen to these really
[24:05] Speaker 11: good tight ends and what they do and just try
[24:08] Speaker 11: to take a little bit from them and add it
[24:09] Speaker 11: to my own game.
[24:10] Speaker 10: The Cardinals a big off season for you guys, an
[24:12] Speaker 10: abbreviated off season program there. But for you coming off
[24:15] Speaker 10: such an outstanding season, how do you carry that in
[24:18] Speaker 10: to this upcoming season?
[24:19] Speaker 11: Yeah, just try to, you know, maximize this year and
[24:22] Speaker 11: have another great season. Consistency is key, and just try
[24:25] Speaker 11: to put another really good year, you know, under my
[24:28] Speaker 11: belt and excited for the for the big year to come.
[24:31] Speaker 10: Mike Lafleur, your new head coach. Tell me what he
[24:34] Speaker 10: has brought to the organization.
[24:35] Speaker 11: Yeah, he's wonderful. He's brought a lot of energy, a
[24:37] Speaker 11: lot of excitement. He's an offensive minded coach is which
[24:40] Speaker 11: you love, and I'm just so excited to have him
[24:42] Speaker 11: as our head coach, to keep learning from him, and
[24:45] Speaker 11: I'm excited for the.
[24:45] Speaker 10: Great year we're going to have with his offense. How
[24:47] Speaker 10: would you describe what's changed?
[24:49] Speaker 8: They love the tight End man. They they twelve thirteen personnel.
[24:52] Speaker 11: They's just a little bit different. The terminology, everything's a
[24:55] Speaker 11: little bit different. But I'm excited to grow and learn
[24:58] Speaker 11: under his offense and have a remarkable year.
[25:01] Speaker 10: And then there's another quarterback competition for you guys, or
[25:03] Speaker 10: i should say the first quarterback competition in a while
[25:06] Speaker 10: after Kyler Murray's departure. How have you viewed that competition?
[25:09] Speaker 8: Yeah, it's been great.
[25:10] Speaker 11: You know, we have a lot of really good players
[25:12] Speaker 11: in that room, and you know, Jacoby's working through a
[25:15] Speaker 11: contract deal, so we'll be excited when he gets back.
[25:18] Speaker 11: But you know, whoever's out there, we're gonna have a
[25:21] Speaker 11: great season and I'm excited for it.
[25:22] Speaker 10: Thanks for the time today, have fun and tight End
[25:24] Speaker 10: you thank.
[25:25] Speaker 8: You so much.
[25:26] Speaker 2: We managed to slow down Brown's rookie speeds, their casey
[25:29] Speaker 2: concepts you on long enough for an interview.
[25:32] Speaker 1: What does he think.
[25:33] Speaker 2: About the Browns quarterback battle that's coming up next on
[25:35] Speaker 2: the inside.
[25:44] Speaker 5: With the twenty fourth pick, the Cleveland brown so like
[25:48] Speaker 5: Casey Conceptio wide receiver Texas.
[25:52] Speaker 12: A and M, the twenty twenty five nations most versatile
[25:55] Speaker 12: college football player, has officially inked his rookie contract, becoming
[25:59] Speaker 12: the final member of the Browns twenty twenty six class.
[26:02] Speaker 8: To secure a four year deal.
[26:04] Speaker 12: The wide receiver out of Texas A and M is
[26:06] Speaker 12: coming off a monster twenty twenty five season with the Aggies,
[26:09] Speaker 12: being named first team AP All American after leading the
[26:12] Speaker 12: team with sixty one receptions, over nine hundred receiving yards,
[26:16] Speaker 12: and hauling in nine touchdowns. While conception owns on field
[26:19] Speaker 12: moments speak for themselves, the twenty one year old game
[26:22] Speaker 12: massive support after speaking out against critics who they are
[26:25] Speaker 12: bully people like himself with speech impediments. The young wide
[26:28] Speaker 12: receiver's competitive spirit and adaptability ultimately gave the Browns a
[26:32] Speaker 12: dynamic edition who confidently knows exactly who he is.
[26:36] Speaker 8: I'm very un versatile.
[26:38] Speaker 13: I've played pretty much any position on the field, and
[26:40] Speaker 13: you know, after the catch, it's a legend. You know,
[26:44] Speaker 13: I get the boss of my hands. You know you
[26:47] Speaker 13: know I'm trying to go score zone. The more you
[26:50] Speaker 13: can do, you know what value you have. So you
[26:52] Speaker 13: know I'm ready. I'm ready to you know I am.
[26:56] Speaker 13: I am ready to do whatever to.
[26:59] Speaker 8: Hell out.
[27:04] Speaker 4: From the NFL Draft to the Cleveland Browns and now
[27:06] Speaker 4: to the insiders, Casey concepts. You welcome to the show
[27:10] Speaker 4: that is Steve Weish. I am Judy Batista. Casey, Let's
[27:14] Speaker 4: just start with it has been a whirlwind few months
[27:17] Speaker 4: for you. Your first round draft pick, you just got
[27:19] Speaker 4: engaged to congratulations by the way, you just rapped up
[27:23] Speaker 4: to your first mini camp. You're welcome, and you just
[27:25] Speaker 4: wrapped up your first mini camp for the Browns. What
[27:28] Speaker 4: has your adjustment to the NFL been like these last
[27:31] Speaker 4: few months.
[27:32] Speaker 9: I would say my adjustment to the NFL it has
[27:36] Speaker 9: been good, just you know, learning a playbook, learning you know,
[27:43] Speaker 9: every position.
[27:44] Speaker 8: I want to feel it, honestly.
[27:46] Speaker 5: Casey, you talked about learning every position on the field,
[27:49] Speaker 5: especially with that wide receiver group. We know that the
[27:52] Speaker 5: Browns have remade that wide receiver room, adding you drafting
[27:55] Speaker 5: Denzel Boston to go with Jerry Judy on that front
[27:58] Speaker 5: line group. What do you think about this wide receiver
[28:01] Speaker 5: group and how quickly you guys can adapt to improve
[28:04] Speaker 5: things in that receiver room.
[28:06] Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, I think that. I think that this
[28:09] Speaker 9: new wide receiver room, you know, that could be dangerous.
[28:12] Speaker 8: Uh.
[28:13] Speaker 9: Everybody, everybody compliments to each other, you know, everybody, everybody,
[28:21] Speaker 9: everybody is a different you know, the receiver.
[28:27] Speaker 4: It was clear from the first few practices that the
[28:29] Speaker 4: media were allowed to watch that they plan to use
[28:32] Speaker 4: you all over the field. That's obviously a big lift
[28:36] Speaker 4: for a rookie. How comfortable are you with the playbook
[28:39] Speaker 4: and where are you in your own comfort level with
[28:42] Speaker 4: this offense.
[28:44] Speaker 9: I'm very very comfortable, you know. You know, I'm confident.
[28:49] Speaker 9: I know what I can do play.
[28:51] Speaker 8: With the wise.
[28:52] Speaker 1: You know.
[28:53] Speaker 9: The first like the first like two weeks, you know,
[28:57] Speaker 9: I had, you know, learn it. I had to, you know,
[29:01] Speaker 9: I you know, I had to get used to the
[29:03] Speaker 9: speed of the game. But I mean, honestly, now, you know,
[29:06] Speaker 9: I'm already I know the playbook, you know. Uh, I'm
[29:09] Speaker 9: just ready to.
[29:10] Speaker 5: Play casey, you know what we're talking about the wide
[29:12] Speaker 5: receiver group. But of course, one of the big conversations
[29:15] Speaker 5: around the Browns is going to be who's the starting
[29:17] Speaker 5: quarterback going to be it's going to be Shadur, It's
[29:19] Speaker 5: going to be Deshaun from a guy who caught balls
[29:22] Speaker 5: from both of them all off season.
[29:24] Speaker 1: How do you think that competition has gone?
[29:27] Speaker 8: It's looking amazing.
[29:29] Speaker 9: One of those guys you know are amazing people, amazing teammates,
[29:33] Speaker 9: you know, amazing quarterbation. You know, everybody, everybody is fighting,
[29:39] Speaker 9: you know, for us final on the roster saying you
[29:41] Speaker 9: know it's going to be you know, intriguing.
[29:44] Speaker 8: You know who comes away with it?
[29:50] Speaker 4: You know, I think when you were coming out of college,
[29:52] Speaker 4: we all knew you were an exceptional wide receiver and
[29:55] Speaker 4: All American, but I think probably most people until the
[29:59] Speaker 4: Combine did not realize that you grew up with a stutter.
[30:03] Speaker 3: Uh.
[30:03] Speaker 4: Why did you want to speak publicly then? And what
[30:07] Speaker 4: has the experience been like since you spoke publicly at
[30:10] Speaker 4: the combine?
[30:11] Speaker 9: You know, I had I had wanted to speak up
[30:15] Speaker 9: publicly about it because you know, I was just you know,
[30:18] Speaker 9: seeing like you know, little like the videos and you know,
[30:23] Speaker 9: you know, stuff like that. You know, I'm not really
[30:26] Speaker 9: I'm not really I'm not really afraid, So you know,
[30:31] Speaker 9: I am not really afraid to you know, be myself,
[30:35] Speaker 9: I wanted to speak up to you know, I wanted
[30:39] Speaker 9: to speak up to you know, inspire the youth, inspire
[30:44] Speaker 9: people who might not be as confident, you know, with
[30:48] Speaker 9: their with their speech impediment.
[30:51] Speaker 5: Well, so let to you about that, because you clearly
[30:53] Speaker 5: are a role model and you've just partnered with Expressible,
[30:55] Speaker 5: which is an online company that helps people with speech impediment.
[31:00] Speaker 5: It's what specifically made you want to partner with Expressible?
[31:04] Speaker 9: Yes, So, growing up, you know, I didn't really have
[31:09] Speaker 9: all of the resources, I didn't really.
[31:10] Speaker 8: Have all of the outlets you know, to you know,
[31:13] Speaker 8: to you know, get the help that I that I
[31:17] Speaker 8: had needed, you know, when I was younger.
[31:20] Speaker 9: And then you know, whenever I found out about the
[31:23] Speaker 9: about the Expressible thing, you know, I just I just
[31:28] Speaker 9: I just found that it was you know, very I
[31:31] Speaker 9: just found that it was very amazing, you know that.
[31:34] Speaker 8: I just found that it was very amazing that.
[31:37] Speaker 9: These great that these great group of people were just
[31:41] Speaker 9: able to help out kids all over the world.
[31:47] Speaker 4: What are you hoping with your partnership and just being
[31:50] Speaker 4: so public about having a stutter and dealing with a starter,
[31:53] Speaker 4: What are you hoping people will learn from you?
[31:57] Speaker 9: Just he's you know, always be confident, Always be yourself.
[32:01] Speaker 9: They know, never back down. Everybody has their own struggles.
[32:08] Speaker 9: Everybody has their own adversities. You know what is what
[32:13] Speaker 9: it is how you fight through those adversities. You know,
[32:15] Speaker 9: it's it's it's a it's like how it's it's how
[32:23] Speaker 9: you can go out here and help out other people
[32:25] Speaker 9: that might be going through.
[32:26] Speaker 8: The same things as you.
[32:30] Speaker 1: Casey.
[32:30] Speaker 4: You're also you're already doing really good work off the field.
[32:33] Speaker 4: We can't wait to watch you on the field. Enjoy
[32:35] Speaker 4: the rest of your off season. We'll see it in
[32:37] Speaker 4: training camp. Thanks for joining us.
[32:39] Speaker 8: Thank you guys very much. Have it as day.
[32:43] Speaker 2: It is top one hundred time of year you get
[32:45] Speaker 2: a look at the top one hundred players of twenty
[32:47] Speaker 2: twenty six, one hundred through ninety one, Montes Sweat and
[32:52] Speaker 2: Cam Jordan bookending that.
[32:54] Speaker 1: But the number one here is Adam Rick. Because it's
[32:57] Speaker 1: time for the weekend or what's up man.
[32:58] Speaker 14: Oh my gosh, thank you so much. Thanks for having
[33:00] Speaker 14: a big weekend for us here. We're gonna get a
[33:02] Speaker 14: couple of days off. It's going to be a lot
[33:03] Speaker 14: of fun. And as we look forward to the weekend,
[33:06] Speaker 14: I would like to open this with a hearty congratulations
[33:09] Speaker 14: to all the recent graduates of tight end University. Although
[33:13] Speaker 14: with tight end premium leagues becoming a thing in fantasy football,
[33:17] Speaker 14: there will be those who feel that drafting tight ends
[33:19] Speaker 14: are nothing.
[33:20] Speaker 1: More than a t one higher.
[33:22] Speaker 14: But I think I speak for all of those in
[33:24] Speaker 14: the fantasy community when I welcome inclusion to make sure
[33:28] Speaker 14: everybody who scores a touchdown is involved and accounted for it.
[33:32] Speaker 14: Just because a tight end scores a touchdown, that doesn't
[33:34] Speaker 14: mean running backs are slided in any other ball. You know,
[33:37] Speaker 14: We're here for everybody's That's why. Oh that's why I.
[33:42] Speaker 2: Have my tight End Day shirt now and I wrote,
[33:45] Speaker 2: coaches on you out of here.
[33:46] Speaker 14: This is full the tight We can celebrate it, we
[33:49] Speaker 14: can celebrate we can celebrate everybody. Oh but tight ends,
[33:53] Speaker 14: it's their thing. And by the way, it looked like
[33:55] Speaker 14: it was quite a celebration down there in Nashville when
[33:59] Speaker 14: Taylor Swift crashed the party and even performed a song
[34:03] Speaker 14: with George Kittle.
[34:04] Speaker 1: And It's it was a momentous occasion.
[34:06] Speaker 14: Look at Taylor Swift down there performing for everybody. It
[34:10] Speaker 14: was a great It's great to see her down there
[34:12] Speaker 14: doing everything. Speaking of the spectacles that I missed out on.
[34:15] Speaker 1: The NBA draft was.
[34:16] Speaker 14: Held this weekend and what of the name of Sean
[34:18] Speaker 14: mcday and west sneed was going on with the Golden
[34:21] Speaker 14: State Warriors as it looked like there was a heated
[34:23] Speaker 14: exchange after the selection of Axel Landenborg and wait.
[34:27] Speaker 1: Chef, what do we do? We not have footage? We're
[34:29] Speaker 1: espn do we do not have footage? What do you have? Footage? Job?
[34:31] Speaker 8: What can we roll here?
[34:32] Speaker 1: Ship's done a phenomenal job. He really has. No, he's not. No.
[34:36] Speaker 1: I asked for one thing, one thing shop. That's it. Listen,
[34:39] Speaker 1: some of the jokes are just for ourselves. Gus.
[34:42] Speaker 14: Speaking of the draft, shout out to the Chicago Bulls
[34:45] Speaker 14: for making the making it easy on the Second City
[34:48] Speaker 14: sports fans by drafting Caleb Wilson from North Carolina. Yeah,
[34:52] Speaker 14: passing on a few players to let the Bulls take
[34:54] Speaker 14: the guy from North Carolina has worked out very well before.
[34:57] Speaker 14: But no, I would like to applaud the ball for
[35:00] Speaker 14: keeping it in the Caleb family. If we could just
[35:03] Speaker 14: somehow convince sho Heyo Tani to change his name to Caleb,
[35:07] Speaker 14: then Chicago would have it all situated, though, you would
[35:11] Speaker 14: have to be a pretty horrible organization to let Caleb
[35:14] Speaker 14: or to let show Heyo Tani walk.
[35:16] Speaker 1: That's just me.
[35:17] Speaker 14: Anyways, Speaking of Caleb Williams, he had his Iceman trademark
[35:21] Speaker 14: denied by the US Patent in Trademark Office.
[35:24] Speaker 1: Well, you know, George Gerbin was a great basketball player.
[35:27] Speaker 1: He deserves the name. That's what it Wasn't it wasn't
[35:29] Speaker 1: George Kervin. No, that would make sense.
[35:31] Speaker 14: No, it was denied because there might be confusion with
[35:35] Speaker 14: a lacrosse.
[35:36] Speaker 1: Product, like the game Lacrosse. Yes, yes, exactly, Yeah, that's right.
[35:41] Speaker 14: Look, I like American Pie as much as the next guy.
[35:44] Speaker 14: Nobody is confusing Caleb Williams with Chris Astriker.
[35:49] Speaker 1: Nobody's making nobody ever knows, we know who they are.
[35:51] Speaker 1: Do you believe in magic?
[35:53] Speaker 14: Hey, sorry, Disney, somebody's gonna have to pay for that one.
[35:56] Speaker 14: But that leads to our main story. Tonight the Chicago
[36:00] Speaker 14: We'll play host of the Packers. I've settled down on
[36:03] Speaker 14: Christmas this year, and NFL Films has jumped headfirst into
[36:07] Speaker 14: the holiday season when they announced a partnership.
[36:09] Speaker 1: With somebody Hallmark.
[36:10] Speaker 14: I don't know they're gonna team up for holiday touchdown,
[36:14] Speaker 14: a Bears love story. You know who doesn't love this?
[36:18] Speaker 14: Me and scores of other Bears fans around around the world.
[36:22] Speaker 14: And look, there is nobody more Bear centric than me.
[36:26] Speaker 1: This is too far.
[36:27] Speaker 14: I can't imagine there's a thirst to see Zachary Levi
[36:30] Speaker 14: and Lacy Sharbear team up here for a holiday classic.
[36:34] Speaker 1: What are we doing here?
[36:35] Speaker 14: This is a trope that you see in every sports sequel,
[36:38] Speaker 14: from Major League the Bad News Bears to the Mighty Ducks.
[36:42] Speaker 14: There's always a story about some underdog that gets a
[36:45] Speaker 14: small amount of success, they let it go to their
[36:47] Speaker 14: heads and then.
[36:48] Speaker 1: This is it.
[36:48] Speaker 14: They lose their edge and you know who seems to
[36:51] Speaker 14: disagree with me, Ben Johnson, take a look at this.
[36:54] Speaker 1: What's going on, Bears fans? Is Coach Johnson Coachton love here.
[36:57] Speaker 1: We've got some huge news for you, and it's coming Christmas.
[37:00] Speaker 8: The Chicago Bears are teaming up with the Hallmark Channel.
[37:03] Speaker 15: The NFL, and Scott and Sports for a holiday touchdown,
[37:06] Speaker 15: A Bears love story coming this Christmas.
[37:08] Speaker 1: The ones for fans and everybody who rides with us
[37:10] Speaker 1: in Bear Nation.
[37:11] Speaker 15: My wife Jessica and I will definitely be tuning in
[37:13] Speaker 15: for this one more to say soon. Until then, bear down,
[37:16] Speaker 15: bear down?
[37:18] Speaker 14: Oh you know it would be good better best canceling
[37:21] Speaker 14: this movie.
[37:22] Speaker 1: Oh and I feel bad for the coach.
[37:23] Speaker 14: There that that didn't that didn't seem scripted at all.
[37:27] Speaker 1: Seemed very natural, coach.
[37:28] Speaker 14: But listen, if you're being forced to read this against
[37:31] Speaker 14: your will, blink or take off your shirt.
[37:34] Speaker 8: You know all right?
[37:35] Speaker 2: Speaking of shirts, hearing you being upset about the Bears
[37:39] Speaker 2: has me feeling a certain familiar way.
[37:41] Speaker 1: I can't quite what in my finger it? How can
[37:44] Speaker 1: you describe it in another way? Dang it? There it is?
[37:47] Speaker 1: We hat trick shirt? Memed you? How dare you?
[37:52] Speaker 2: Sader's This the thirtieth Manning Passing Academy in Thibodeaux, Louisiana
[37:57] Speaker 2: this week There for twenty eight of them are our
[38:00] Speaker 2: very own Rett Lewis, who gets a chance to go
[38:02] Speaker 2: one on one with Super Bowl champion Eli Manning.
[38:07] Speaker 16: As a two time Emmy Award winner. I feel like
[38:10] Speaker 16: we should take a page out of your playbook a
[38:12] Speaker 16: little bit. We'll go Eli at the movies. Yeah, you
[38:14] Speaker 16: and I sitting down if we're watching a movie about
[38:17] Speaker 16: the thirty year history of the Manning Passing Academy. What
[38:20] Speaker 16: are some of the highlights that we're pulling out and
[38:21] Speaker 16: we're talking about.
[38:22] Speaker 17: I'd say, just the uh, you know, the microphones and
[38:26] Speaker 17: how they've just the time and you used to have
[38:27] Speaker 17: a big microphone. You went to the selfie state for
[38:30] Speaker 17: a while, and now we're into this little No, that's impressive,
[38:35] Speaker 17: But I think it's just it's funny thirty years coming
[38:38] Speaker 17: down here, but still so many of the same characters.
[38:42] Speaker 17: And we had our staff meeting yesterday and coaches standing up, Hey,
[38:44] Speaker 17: this is my twenty eighth year, this is my twenty
[38:46] Speaker 17: second year, and so I mean, you're doing something right.
[38:49] Speaker 17: These coaches from all over the country want to come here,
[38:52] Speaker 17: spend their summer, you know, break and come coach football
[38:56] Speaker 17: in South Louisiana. It means zeh having fun, they're learning,
[39:00] Speaker 17: and we have a great group of college kids that
[39:02] Speaker 17: continue to come in here coaching them up. And so
[39:05] Speaker 17: it is a little bit about family. It is a
[39:06] Speaker 17: little bit of a reunion coming down here every year
[39:09] Speaker 17: and having.
[39:09] Speaker 16: Lots of laughs, but also on the field working hard.
[39:12] Speaker 16: I always tell everybody the college quarterbacks that come here.
[39:14] Speaker 16: You know, this is a big name group as it
[39:16] Speaker 16: usually is, but their first priority is to coach their
[39:19] Speaker 16: group kids, right their high schoolers. But there are some
[39:21] Speaker 16: real benefits for them to be around each other, to
[39:23] Speaker 16: be around you and Peyton and the group. Like, how
[39:25] Speaker 16: do you see their role in what they get out
[39:27] Speaker 16: of us?
[39:27] Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean I think you know we we yesterday we
[39:29] Speaker 17: were on the field with the college guys. We did
[39:31] Speaker 17: you know, kind of an hour hour session last night,
[39:33] Speaker 17: going through drills, doing you know, routes first are you
[39:37] Speaker 17: know they'll do it.
[39:37] Speaker 1: They'll do that again today.
[39:39] Speaker 17: Peyton and I will meet with them tomorrow for an
[39:40] Speaker 17: hour kind of closed room, closed door. Let them ask
[39:43] Speaker 17: questions about anything.
[39:45] Speaker 1: Well, the best way to prepare to get week, you know,
[39:47] Speaker 1: get ready for a week.
[39:48] Speaker 17: I mean, if it's about the combine, it's about the draft,
[39:50] Speaker 17: it's about you know, NFL, whatever it might be. How
[39:53] Speaker 17: to be a great leader, how to you know, get
[39:55] Speaker 17: help the receiver out if he's not playing well? All
[39:57] Speaker 17: these things that they're going through to have Peydon I
[40:00] Speaker 17: two guys that have been through it at every level,
[40:02] Speaker 17: have been in the same uh and their same shoes.
[40:05] Speaker 17: I think it's helpful for them. So it's on the
[40:06] Speaker 17: field stuff, it's off the field, it's sitting having dinner
[40:09] Speaker 17: with them and just kind of you know, just talking.
[40:12] Speaker 17: So paint and I tell hey, anytime you see us,
[40:14] Speaker 17: you have any questions and you know, ask us, take
[40:17] Speaker 17: our number down.
[40:17] Speaker 1: We want to be a resource and help you out.
[40:19] Speaker 17: On your path.
[40:20] Speaker 16: And then you know, maybe you see him on you know,
[40:21] Speaker 16: the Maning Cast on Monday nights. You know, we've seen
[40:23] Speaker 16: plenty of that too, which is cool. Jackson Dart was
[40:27] Speaker 16: was here as a as a can as a counselor.
[40:29] Speaker 16: Now of course, you know with your New York Giants,
[40:32] Speaker 16: like you didn't start every game his rookie year, but
[40:35] Speaker 16: looking to take a jump like you did going into
[40:37] Speaker 16: year two. You guys, what won eleven games in year two?
[40:39] Speaker 16: What do you remember about that time between year one
[40:43] Speaker 16: and year two that allowed that kind of jump.
[40:45] Speaker 17: Well, I think you know, when when you're you know,
[40:47] Speaker 17: coming into the NFL, you're a rookie, you're not the starter.
[40:49] Speaker 17: It's hard to kind of know what your role is.
[40:51] Speaker 17: How do you how do you lead guys? Do you
[40:53] Speaker 17: know your offense completely? I think now going to his
[40:56] Speaker 17: second year, you know, he's gonna have a greater command
[40:59] Speaker 17: of the offense, a greater command of what he needs
[41:02] Speaker 17: to do. How does he need to prepare, How does
[41:04] Speaker 17: he watch film? How is he going to watch the
[41:07] Speaker 17: Blitz pick up and figure out how.
[41:09] Speaker 1: To change protection.
[41:10] Speaker 17: So kind of knowing how teams played him in the
[41:12] Speaker 17: games that he played so they can prepare for that
[41:14] Speaker 17: to have answers for that next year. So I think
[41:16] Speaker 17: it just helps you from the leadership side and just
[41:19] Speaker 17: from the preparation side.
[41:20] Speaker 8: Of knowing what to expect.
[41:22] Speaker 1: Thanks Buddy, all right, rach I appreciate.
[41:25] Speaker 2: Good to have those two reunited. We're back with Judy
[41:27] Speaker 2: Batista on the Insiders as the Giants until the twenty eighth.
[41:31] Speaker 2: They will get ready for training camp, and Jackson Dart's
[41:34] Speaker 2: gonna have to do all those things Eli just talked about.
[41:39] Speaker 4: I hope what Eli maybe talk to Jackson part about
[41:42] Speaker 4: is staying on the field as much as Eli was
[41:45] Speaker 4: able to stay on the field during his career. You
[41:46] Speaker 4: remember Eli didn't miss a start until they benched him
[41:50] Speaker 4: late in his career at the New York Giants. Jackson
[41:53] Speaker 4: Dart has had trouble with injuries already. He takes a beating,
[41:57] Speaker 4: he puts himself in harm's way. I know John Harbaugh
[42:00] Speaker 4: want him to stay on the field and to learn
[42:02] Speaker 4: to protect himself more so, hopefully he can take a
[42:04] Speaker 4: page from Eli Manning in that department too.
[42:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, Eli wasn't necessarily running a lot of QB power
[42:10] Speaker 2: like Jackson. Dart was some of it on his own
[42:12] Speaker 2: volition last year in Brian Dables' offense. We will take
[42:16] Speaker 2: a break. The Insiders will return on July sixth, coming
[42:21] Speaker 2: back here on NFL Network. We hope you enjoy your
[42:24] Speaker 2: break away from us, but we'll be right back here
[42:26] Speaker 2: with all of the football news and information as we
[42:28] Speaker 2: get set for training. Care for Judy Batissa, Steve Weish,
[42:31] Speaker 2: Jane Slater, and Adam Rink. I'm Patrick Claybount. Thanks for
[42:34] Speaker 2: watching The Insiders. We'll see you after the fourth bye.
[42:38] Speaker 6: Brodie, come a good weekd
