[0:08] Speaker 1: Then the Raiders hit the jackpot there at number one,
[0:10] Speaker 1: see Vegas. That's what I did right there for an
[0:12] Speaker 1: new Mendoza, the number one overall pick, officially a Las
[0:16] Speaker 1: Vegas Raider, and now we see where it goes from
[0:19] Speaker 1: here him Kirk Cousins's going to break all that down.
[0:21] Speaker 1: We are also going to look at the NFC East
[0:23] Speaker 1: as we review the draft by division, and we are
[0:26] Speaker 1: starting with the Giants, the Cowboys, the Eagles, and the
[0:31] Speaker 1: Washington Commanders.
[0:32] Speaker 2: That is tonight on Tonight's program.
[0:34] Speaker 1: Then there's that drama in Los Angeles, body language, everybody
[0:37] Speaker 1: reathing into that, Sean McVay saying, now you got it
[0:39] Speaker 1: all wrong.
[0:40] Speaker 2: I just make sure that guy.
[0:41] Speaker 1: Wasn't upset because I got to manage him, and I
[0:42] Speaker 1: gotta manage Ty Sinpson. We're going to get into all
[0:45] Speaker 1: that as well here on The Insiders Monday Post Draft edition,
[0:51] Speaker 1: looking back at the twenty twenty six NFL Draft and
[0:53] Speaker 1: breaking it all down for you. Ian Rapaport, Judy Batista
[0:56] Speaker 1: here with me, Steve weish omar Ruiz in Los Angeles,
[0:58] Speaker 1: Mark Ross long for the ride as well, plenty to
[1:01] Speaker 1: get into.
[1:02] Speaker 2: So let's get right into it. Ar Bel Reese.
[1:04] Speaker 1: Everybody thought he'd be gone by the time the Giants
[1:06] Speaker 1: were on the clock, maybe even the Giants themselves, but
[1:09] Speaker 1: they said, who cares, he's there. We're taking them with
[1:11] Speaker 1: a fifth overall pick. Who cares if he's this positionless guy.
[1:15] Speaker 1: They kind of like that. That's a positive thing for
[1:17] Speaker 1: the Giants. So r bel rees, followed by Francis Malanoa
[1:21] Speaker 1: and then Colton Hood.
[1:22] Speaker 2: I mean throughout the draft, the Giants felt really.
[1:24] Speaker 1: Good about what they did, what they took away in
[1:26] Speaker 1: this draft, not just in the top ten. Judy, you
[1:29] Speaker 1: were there in East Rutherford. Let's look back on the
[1:31] Speaker 1: Giants draft and give them an apot.
[1:34] Speaker 2: No, I said, no draft rads, I promised, Oh got it.
[1:37] Speaker 3: We're not doing grades.
[1:38] Speaker 4: But I can tell you that on Thursday night, when
[1:40] Speaker 4: they came in to talk to reporters, they were elited.
[1:45] Speaker 4: Arvel Reese dropped into their laps. They did not think
[1:48] Speaker 4: he was going to be there. He was their top
[1:49] Speaker 4: rated non quarterback on their board, and then Ceci Malanoa
[1:55] Speaker 4: was also there. He was in their top five players
[1:58] Speaker 4: non quarterbacks.
[1:59] Speaker 3: They got both of them.
[2:01] Speaker 4: One comment that John Harbaugh made was they got tougher
[2:04] Speaker 4: up the middle. Clearly he was focused on the trenches
[2:08] Speaker 4: in this draft. They wanted to get stronger, they wanted
[2:10] Speaker 4: to get tougher, they wanted to get bigger, faster violent.
[2:15] Speaker 4: That was a word that was used to So they
[2:17] Speaker 4: were thrilled with how the first round went and thrilled
[2:20] Speaker 4: with how the rest of the draft went.
[2:22] Speaker 3: Really, for the.
[2:22] Speaker 4: First time the pairing of Joe Shane and John Harbaugh,
[2:25] Speaker 4: it went about as well as they could possibly have
[2:28] Speaker 4: dreamed of.
[2:30] Speaker 5: There's so many fun things that go into preparing for
[2:32] Speaker 5: a draft, and what we all do is spend a
[2:34] Speaker 5: lot of time in the phone going through various scenarios
[2:36] Speaker 5: with general managers and coaches, trying to tell everyone, all, right,
[2:39] Speaker 5: this team takes here, here's who takes this guy, here's
[2:42] Speaker 5: who might be around. And of all the times when
[2:45] Speaker 5: I talked to general managers about how the first five
[2:47] Speaker 5: picks of the draft were.
[2:48] Speaker 6: Going to shake out, this did not come up. Arvel reaches.
[2:51] Speaker 6: Going to five was not a consideration.
[2:54] Speaker 5: In fact, if it did happen, I would have thought
[2:56] Speaker 5: that someone would come up in trade. Instead, the Giants
[2:59] Speaker 5: just at chilled, they were ready, and they take the
[3:03] Speaker 5: best player on the world, someone who's athleticism and suddenness
[3:06] Speaker 5: really impressed everyone. You could rush off the edge, you
[3:09] Speaker 5: can play off the ball linebacker, which is what he
[3:11] Speaker 5: is going to do right from the jump. But this
[3:13] Speaker 5: is so interesting for the Giants because had they just
[3:15] Speaker 5: stayed there and taken someone else if Reese was gone,
[3:18] Speaker 5: my understanding is they would have taken Francis Malanoa, who
[3:21] Speaker 5: they ended up be ending at ten. So they get
[3:23] Speaker 5: two players who they believe were worthy of the number
[3:26] Speaker 5: five overall spot, and then Mike. So much of the
[3:29] Speaker 5: conversation was about, like, what are the Giants going to
[3:31] Speaker 5: do with Keevon Thibodeau. How about nothing? How about just
[3:34] Speaker 5: keep Thibodaux on the edge. How about Reese plays off
[3:36] Speaker 5: the ball, They mix in some pass rush and they
[3:38] Speaker 5: just get a lot better on defense.
[3:40] Speaker 6: That's a good outcome.
[3:42] Speaker 1: Ernie of Corsi, who used to occupy Joe Shane's chair
[3:45] Speaker 1: as general manager of the Giants, said you can never
[3:48] Speaker 1: have too many pass rushers. Well, that's certainly what the
[3:51] Speaker 1: Giants are looking at right now. I also agree with
[3:53] Speaker 1: you Ian about the Balanoa pick. The people have asked
[3:57] Speaker 1: me if Reese had gone for where were they have
[3:59] Speaker 1: gone yeah, Malanoa and then come back with a wide
[4:01] Speaker 1: receiver at ten.
[4:03] Speaker 2: People say, well, yeah, yeah, but Malanoa, you.
[4:05] Speaker 1: Could have gotten them at ten. Well you don't know
[4:06] Speaker 1: that at the time. Number one, number two. If Kate's
[4:08] Speaker 1: not at four, that pushes the receiver to them at ten.
[4:11] Speaker 1: That guy smiling, he should be smiling. Judy, you alluded
[4:14] Speaker 1: to it. John Harball and Joe Shane, who have hit
[4:16] Speaker 1: it off really well. Since Shane was a big part
[4:18] Speaker 1: of the recruiting process to get Harball to East Rutherford.
[4:22] Speaker 2: This was a home run for them over the weekend.
[4:25] Speaker 1: From that standpoint, I know a lot of people say, well,
[4:27] Speaker 1: Harball's here and Shane's going to handle the whole free
[4:30] Speaker 1: agency in the draft and after the draft he's just
[4:32] Speaker 1: going to dispose of him.
[4:33] Speaker 2: I do not expect that to happen.
[4:35] Speaker 1: Joe Shane is the general manager of the Giants and
[4:37] Speaker 1: John Harball is pleased about that. The Chiefs Ian we
[4:41] Speaker 1: talked about leading after the draft, the potential for the
[4:43] Speaker 1: Browns to slide back and the Chiefs to slide up,
[4:46] Speaker 1: because we had heard the same thing that that was
[4:48] Speaker 1: potentially going to be the trade Chiefs up to six
[4:50] Speaker 1: Browns back.
[4:51] Speaker 2: We didn't know quite who they were going for. We
[4:53] Speaker 2: thought maybe an edge player.
[4:54] Speaker 1: But no, this one made a lot of sense mansword Delane.
[4:57] Speaker 1: Because they had lost both of their starting warner back
[5:00] Speaker 1: to the Rams.
[5:00] Speaker 2: They make a big add to the position here.
[5:02] Speaker 5: I was pretty sure of a couple of things going
[5:04] Speaker 5: into the first round of the draft. One was that
[5:07] Speaker 5: either the Chiefs or the Cowboys would trade up. I
[5:10] Speaker 5: was pretty sure about that because I kept hearing that
[5:13] Speaker 5: the Chiefs wanted someone they'd make a lot of noise
[5:16] Speaker 5: about coming up, and I believed going in that number
[5:19] Speaker 5: six made sense because I knew that going from nine
[5:21] Speaker 5: to six wouldn't be that expensive, and the Browns wanted
[5:23] Speaker 5: to come back.
[5:24] Speaker 6: So in my head, I'm.
[5:25] Speaker 5: Thinking Bailey's gone, Reese is gone. It makes sense the
[5:29] Speaker 5: Chiefs are coming up for Reuben Bain, which is what
[5:31] Speaker 5: I thought, because I just had no idea that they
[5:34] Speaker 5: were that interested in Monsieur Delaine, who was the Constsus
[5:37] Speaker 5: top corner. They lost a corner trading McDuffie to the
[5:41] Speaker 5: Los Angeles Rams Judy, so it does make sense. They
[5:44] Speaker 5: just kept it so quiet that nobody knew they would
[5:47] Speaker 5: take a corner that early they were able to kind
[5:49] Speaker 5: of stealthily do it well.
[5:51] Speaker 4: And then they did select arm Mason Thomas, so they
[5:54] Speaker 4: did address their need for more pass rush. Even later
[5:58] Speaker 4: on in the draft, I think it was the fifth
[5:59] Speaker 4: round they find they got a wide receiver. Remember we
[6:01] Speaker 4: were talking about their need for a wide receiver coming
[6:04] Speaker 4: out of their strafts, So they addressed that. The first
[6:07] Speaker 4: four picks of the Chiefs drafts were all defense. You see,
[6:10] Speaker 4: they also got a three technique tackle there, so Steve
[6:13] Speaker 4: Spagnolo has a lot of new toys to play with.
[6:16] Speaker 4: The one thing they did not address that now you
[6:18] Speaker 4: have to see what they do in the post draft process,
[6:21] Speaker 4: is they did not address the offensive line, which is
[6:23] Speaker 4: still an area of some concern in Kansas City. So
[6:27] Speaker 4: we'll see what they do in the coming days and
[6:30] Speaker 4: weeks at offensive line. But again, they hit on the
[6:33] Speaker 4: things that were most important. Their defense needed.
[6:35] Speaker 3: A lot of work.
[6:36] Speaker 4: They feel like in Kansas City that they're going into
[6:39] Speaker 4: sort of the second act of the Patrick Mahomes dynasty era,
[6:43] Speaker 4: and this was an opportunity to reset, and they really
[6:46] Speaker 4: reset on the defensive side.
[6:47] Speaker 7: Of the ball.
[6:48] Speaker 1: Judy, they didn't draft a tackle. They didn't sign the
[6:51] Speaker 1: tackles an underrafted free agent. In fact, I reported today
[6:54] Speaker 1: that Micah pettis a Florida State offensive tackle who was
[6:58] Speaker 1: with US and the Insiders recently going to work out
[7:01] Speaker 1: or to try out as a rookie camp because there's
[7:03] Speaker 1: a chance for him to get on the roster given
[7:05] Speaker 1: that they didn't address this.
[7:06] Speaker 2: So yes, you're correct about that. Number two.
[7:08] Speaker 1: When it came to mansord delay being a surprise, Rett
[7:11] Speaker 1: Beach gets on the phone with him, you saw it
[7:12] Speaker 1: on the draft call, saying you didn't hear from much
[7:14] Speaker 1: much of the spring.
[7:15] Speaker 2: That was by design.
[7:16] Speaker 1: We were trying to keep this one under rep so
[7:18] Speaker 1: the Chiefs being sneaky with that.
[7:19] Speaker 2: So Ian like me, we.
[7:21] Speaker 1: Thought maybe edge rusher, don't feel bad we wound up
[7:24] Speaker 1: being delayed because they did run some misdirection on that one.
[7:28] Speaker 1: Speaking of players who didn't hear from teams, Ty Simpsons
[7:31] Speaker 1: said he never talked to Sean McVay before the for
[7:33] Speaker 1: the Rams selected him with the thirteenth overall pick.
[7:36] Speaker 2: Here look a surprise.
[7:39] Speaker 1: In a lot of ways, Ian, but definitely the team
[7:43] Speaker 1: that throughout the draft process we did connect them to.
[7:46] Speaker 1: It was just a matter of well, maybe with their
[7:48] Speaker 1: second first round pick, then they trade that away. Well
[7:50] Speaker 1: maybe later in the draft. Could they come in the
[7:51] Speaker 1: second round. No, they said, we're not messing around. It's
[7:54] Speaker 1: a quarterback. You take them when you want to take them.
[7:55] Speaker 1: You take them at thirteen.
[7:57] Speaker 5: If you like him enough to believe that he has
[7:59] Speaker 5: a future st quarterback in the league, just take him wherever,
[8:02] Speaker 5: because the reality is, if Ty Simpson ends up starting
[8:05] Speaker 5: for the Los Angeles Rams at some point next.
[8:08] Speaker 6: Year, two years, three years, who cares?
[8:11] Speaker 5: He is going to be worth the wherever you select
[8:13] Speaker 5: him if he is a good quarterback, So it doesn't
[8:14] Speaker 5: matter if you like him, just take him. This is
[8:17] Speaker 5: a fascinating one for me because this was the one
[8:19] Speaker 5: team that really didn't need anything, Like the roster's so good,
[8:24] Speaker 5: and you know, Sean McVay didn't really play rookies anyway.
[8:26] Speaker 5: It's not like they needed one guy to come in
[8:28] Speaker 5: and phill hole. So I'm like, who could they get
[8:30] Speaker 5: to invest in the future enough that's worth it at thirteen.
[8:33] Speaker 6: This was the only thing.
[8:35] Speaker 5: I could possibly come up with, except everyone said the
[8:37] Speaker 5: same thing. Well, yeah, the Rams don't really like him
[8:39] Speaker 5: because they haven't spent a lot of time in them.
[8:41] Speaker 6: Turns out that also was by design.
[8:43] Speaker 5: And I will say this, the Rams are so good, Judy,
[8:45] Speaker 5: they are never going to have the opportunity to draft
[8:47] Speaker 5: at thirteen again. If you get someone to this town level,
[8:51] Speaker 5: at this position, you have to take it.
[8:53] Speaker 4: I understand all the hand ringing from folks who say, well,
[8:56] Speaker 4: they are in a Super Bowl window right now, they
[8:58] Speaker 4: have the defending lead MVP. They should have drafted somebody
[9:02] Speaker 4: who could help them immediately. Okay, I don't know who
[9:05] Speaker 4: that would have been that they need, because as you
[9:07] Speaker 4: pointed out, they don't really have any holes on their roster.
[9:10] Speaker 4: Maybe another wide receiver if you're worried about that position.
[9:13] Speaker 4: But we spend a lot of time talking about teams
[9:16] Speaker 4: that have not had succession plans. We've talked about it
[9:19] Speaker 4: with the Pittsburgh Steelers who have tried to have a
[9:21] Speaker 4: succession plan and it just hasn't come to fruition and
[9:24] Speaker 4: now they are waiting on Aaron Rodgers.
[9:26] Speaker 3: We talk about it with other teams. We have seen this.
[9:29] Speaker 4: Work at the Green Bay Packers twice, where you draft
[9:32] Speaker 4: a quarterback high while you still have the guy in
[9:36] Speaker 4: place and you're still trying to win Super bowls there.
[9:38] Speaker 4: We have seen it work there and this is what
[9:41] Speaker 4: they are trying to do at the Rems. And you're right,
[9:44] Speaker 4: they are so good. Much like the Steelers, they never
[9:47] Speaker 4: draft high. They're never going to be high enough to
[9:50] Speaker 4: get one of those guys in the top five picks.
[9:53] Speaker 4: You got to take him if you think he's the guy.
[9:55] Speaker 4: And if he sits on the bench, that's okay. Patrick
[9:58] Speaker 4: Mahomes sat on the bench for a little while too.
[10:00] Speaker 1: Ian reported before the draft, Jimmy Garoppolo is considering retirement.
[10:04] Speaker 1: You need to back up in some form or fashion, right,
[10:07] Speaker 1: so you get Ty Simpson. You try to bring him
[10:09] Speaker 1: along behind Matthew Stafford. Maybe he winds up being your
[10:11] Speaker 1: number two. Maybe Garoppolo could still be welcome back, because
[10:14] Speaker 1: Sean McVeigh mentioned at the league meeting he did expect
[10:17] Speaker 1: or hope that Garoppolo was going to come back.
[10:19] Speaker 7: So maybe he.
[10:20] Speaker 1: Still could come in as the two and Simpsons the three.
[10:22] Speaker 1: We'll see how they handle that. But basically, the Rams
[10:24] Speaker 1: feeling really good about their quarterback of the future in
[10:27] Speaker 1: Ty Simpson. Let's see how he Develops'd be interesting to
[10:29] Speaker 1: see how Carson Beck develops. You've got two veterans Jacoby Brissett,
[10:34] Speaker 1: as well as Gardner Minshew there with the Cardinals, but
[10:37] Speaker 1: as Ian reported, Brissette hasn't been there. We'll see about
[10:39] Speaker 1: a contract resolution in the meantime. Yeah, a lot of
[10:42] Speaker 1: folks were a little higher on Carson Beck. Then maybe
[10:45] Speaker 1: we thought winds up being a third round pick, number
[10:48] Speaker 1: sixty five overall, with the chance to at least make
[10:51] Speaker 1: a statement to the Cardinals and say, hey, I'm your
[10:53] Speaker 1: guy moving forward. If you got a high pick next year, Judy,
[10:55] Speaker 1: maybe you'll even have to use it on a quarterback
[10:57] Speaker 1: because you got me.
[10:59] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[10:59] Speaker 4: I mean, of all the quarterbacks that were drafted, Carson Beck,
[11:02] Speaker 4: strangely enough, may get a start before any of them.
[11:06] Speaker 4: If the Raiders stick to the plan, then not start
[11:08] Speaker 4: for Nando Mendoza right away, but Carson Beck a third rounder. Remember,
[11:12] Speaker 4: before the draft, the brain trust in Arizona declined to
[11:15] Speaker 4: name a starter, declined to even name.
[11:18] Speaker 3: A front runner for the starting job.
[11:20] Speaker 4: Now we assume that Jacobe Brissett will be the starter,
[11:24] Speaker 4: But you don't know how that's going to go, and
[11:25] Speaker 4: you certainly don't know how things are going to go
[11:27] Speaker 4: in training camp. Carson Beck has played a lot of games,
[11:30] Speaker 4: a lot of high profile games, high pressure games. He
[11:34] Speaker 4: played a two huge programs. He played in the National
[11:37] Speaker 4: Championship Game only a few months ago, so he's got
[11:40] Speaker 4: plenty of experience in high pressure situation. It's going to
[11:42] Speaker 4: be really interesting to see how this plays out in Arizona.
[11:45] Speaker 4: But I don't think anybody would be surprised if he
[11:48] Speaker 4: is starting sooner rather than later.
[11:50] Speaker 5: There yeah, kind of a sneaky selection here. And I
[11:53] Speaker 5: think once Carson Beck didn't go in the second round
[11:56] Speaker 5: in the air was like, well, I guess maybe the
[11:57] Speaker 5: Cardinals don't like him. No, they really just understood the
[12:00] Speaker 5: value across the league, knowing that if people didn't take
[12:02] Speaker 5: him in one, they probably weren't going to take him
[12:04] Speaker 5: in two. Arizona Cardinals wait weight weight and get a
[12:07] Speaker 5: really really talented quarterback in the third round.
[12:10] Speaker 6: And here's what they have right now.
[12:11] Speaker 5: They have Jacoby Brissette, who started a bunch of games
[12:14] Speaker 5: last year, expect to be their starter of this year,
[12:16] Speaker 5: but has not been present this spring because he wants
[12:18] Speaker 5: a contract extension. And then they have Gardner Minshew, who
[12:21] Speaker 5: has obviously started in the past. It does seem judy
[12:24] Speaker 5: like what you said, Carson Beck is going to get
[12:26] Speaker 5: a shot, and he'll either earn it or he won't,
[12:29] Speaker 5: but he is going to have a very interesting opportunity
[12:31] Speaker 5: in Arizona.
[12:33] Speaker 1: The pre draft process, interviews at the Combine and elsewhere,
[12:36] Speaker 1: meetings with teams very important, particularly for quarterbacks.
[12:39] Speaker 2: Carson Beck did a really great job throughout that process.
[12:42] Speaker 1: Given folks the right answers about how things ended at
[12:44] Speaker 1: Georgia and maybe areas where he could have improved.
[12:47] Speaker 2: Carson Beck winds up with the Cardinals.
[12:50] Speaker 6: What does the future look like as a head coach
[12:52] Speaker 6: in this league for you?
[12:53] Speaker 3: I guess it's going to happen.
[12:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys know, I'm going to Las Vegas.
[12:56] Speaker 7: I'm firing up about it. This is a Sober and Black.
[12:58] Speaker 7: This is the Raiders, this is the store franchise.
[13:01] Speaker 6: When the opportunity came out, had a chance to.
[13:03] Speaker 7: Come here and compete with this organization, it was a
[13:05] Speaker 7: no brainer.
[13:06] Speaker 8: Roll bo edg.
[13:07] Speaker 5: Max Crosby is now headed to the Baltimore Ravens.
[13:11] Speaker 6: A massive, massive ball, true first round picks.
[13:14] Speaker 3: You could see a whole lot of positions. It's cash
[13:17] Speaker 3: that has been misspence.
[13:18] Speaker 9: Highlighted by Tyler linderball.
[13:20] Speaker 10: But then they follow it up and getting on the
[13:21] Speaker 10: defens side of the ball, getting us money to the
[13:24] Speaker 10: Kobe D's and play.
[13:25] Speaker 6: Walkers of the world.
[13:26] Speaker 7: So they have the money and they have to spend.
[13:28] Speaker 11: The news that the Max Crosby Blockbuster trade is off
[13:33] Speaker 11: and sent shock waves through the league book.
[13:35] Speaker 5: Cousins is going to give about twenty bill to mentor
[13:37] Speaker 5: Fernando Mendoza.
[13:38] Speaker 6: We know there's a respect here for the Raiders and
[13:40] Speaker 6: whatnover that said, love being a.
[13:42] Speaker 12: Part of that.
[13:43] Speaker 13: Welcome to the twenty twenty pick NFL Draft. With the
[13:46] Speaker 13: first pick, the Las Vegas Raiders select Fernando Minovaana.
[13:52] Speaker 11: But exactly what we're looking for and what the franchise
[13:55] Speaker 11: we think you can't wait for for Lordon.
[13:56] Speaker 14: With the thirty eighth picks, the Las Vegas Raiders Traydon
[14:01] Speaker 14: Stoke defensive back Arizona.
[14:03] Speaker 2: With the sixty seventh thick Kee.
[14:06] Speaker 7: Ron Crawford defensive n Auburn.
[14:08] Speaker 8: With a ninety first pick, Trey Zoom the third guard Texas,
[14:13] Speaker 8: A and.
[14:13] Speaker 7: M Welcome to the Raider.
[14:18] Speaker 1: I feel like we all lived a lifetime in the
[14:20] Speaker 1: Raiders offseason. Fernando Mendoza, the number one overall pick. Trade
[14:25] Speaker 1: on Stoke's there the safety, followed by Kiroon Crawford, who
[14:27] Speaker 1: then jumped into the pool once he was drafted. Jamal
[14:30] Speaker 1: McCoy's an interesting one. If they can get that knee
[14:32] Speaker 1: right at some point, what a value that's going to be.
[14:34] Speaker 1: Mike Washington Junior bald, he loved him. We were talking
[14:37] Speaker 1: over the weekend and Hezekaya mass is one of the
[14:39] Speaker 1: best names in the draft this year. Our guy Omar
[14:43] Speaker 1: Ruwis was out there in Vegas covering the Raiders.
[14:46] Speaker 2: Steve Weiss was with me and Los Angeles breaking it down.
[14:48] Speaker 2: Those guys are in Englewood.
[14:50] Speaker 11: Now, he Mike, Yeah. Special weekend in Las Vegas. Was
[14:53] Speaker 11: able to witness a lot of it. And when Fernando
[14:55] Speaker 11: Mendoz and his family walk into the building, the entire
[14:58] Speaker 11: organization is standing around the line be getting him a
[15:01] Speaker 11: standing innovation. You have Fred blint Nikoff, you have Jim Plunkett,
[15:05] Speaker 11: you have Tim Brown, you have Marcus Allen, three fellow
[15:08] Speaker 11: Heisman Trophy winners, three Hall of Famers, and you talk
[15:12] Speaker 11: about a welcoming committee. Steve John Spytek there you see
[15:15] Speaker 11: there on the left, the general manager, the welcoming committee
[15:19] Speaker 11: that he's put together this spring.
[15:21] Speaker 6: With all the work they've done.
[15:22] Speaker 11: This offseason, whether it's talking about Kirk Cousins, the draft picks,
[15:26] Speaker 11: or free agency, it all seems to have come together
[15:29] Speaker 11: this weekend.
[15:29] Speaker 7: Yeah, Omar, when we're talking.
[15:30] Speaker 14: About this draft and they you know, you look at
[15:33] Speaker 14: most of the evaluations, very solid draft. You've got to
[15:35] Speaker 14: include what they did in free agency. Going to Kirk Cousins.
[15:38] Speaker 14: But whether it's him or whether it's Fernanda Mendoza. They
[15:41] Speaker 14: go out and get center Tyler Linderbaum, a garden Spencer, Butufort.
[15:44] Speaker 14: They load up on defense with three linebackers Dakobe, Dean Quitty,
[15:48] Speaker 14: Pey Kway Walker. Now you add some of these other
[15:50] Speaker 14: players to it. You talk about the safety trade on
[15:52] Speaker 14: Stoke's he comes in right. He's somebody who could back
[15:55] Speaker 14: up these linebackers. You can play several different positions they're at.
[15:59] Speaker 14: You cover the tight ends in the NFC West. Then
[16:01] Speaker 14: you add key On Crawford the third round, add depth
[16:04] Speaker 14: to the ed spot. We talked about Max Crossey playing
[16:06] Speaker 14: ninety eight percent of the snaps. He doesn't have to
[16:08] Speaker 14: do it. You see some Teraron Johnson. They brought in
[16:11] Speaker 14: a free agency. Now they add jermalm McCoy, see if
[16:14] Speaker 14: he can come in off that knee. But the interesting
[16:17] Speaker 14: one to me is Mike just talked about is adding
[16:19] Speaker 14: running back Mike Washington. He is a zone scheme, stick
[16:23] Speaker 14: your foot in the ground, one cut running back who
[16:26] Speaker 14: fits exactly what Klink Kubiak does. Remember they had Ashtion
[16:29] Speaker 14: genty the sixth overall draft pick last year. This could
[16:32] Speaker 14: be a hell of a backfield with two guys. When
[16:34] Speaker 14: you think about where Klink Kubiak is coming from, with
[16:35] Speaker 14: Kenneth Walker and Zach Charboney up in Seattle, he could
[16:39] Speaker 14: be redoing this. That's a quarterback's best friend. Omar so
[16:42] Speaker 14: whether it's Fernando Men those are Kirk cousins. They could
[16:45] Speaker 14: have two stud young running backs to help them along.
[16:47] Speaker 14: You look at Spike Tech's work over the weekend with
[16:49] Speaker 14: this draft. You hear all the general managers throughout the
[16:51] Speaker 14: NFL say we're going to do the best player available.
[16:54] Speaker 6: It looks like they lived it.
[16:55] Speaker 11: Heading into this draft, looked like wide receiver and defensive
[16:58] Speaker 11: tackle might have been their two biggest needs. Well, they
[17:00] Speaker 11: didn't make a defensive tackle. Wide receiver partic until their
[17:03] Speaker 11: second to the last and their last pick. It was
[17:06] Speaker 11: all for DBS like you mentioned, to fortify that unit
[17:09] Speaker 11: and sticking to that best player available and getting that value.
[17:12] Speaker 11: As for Fernando Mendoza going to have the rookie Mini
[17:15] Speaker 11: camp I asked fi Tech about how much they're going
[17:17] Speaker 11: to put on his plate and said they're going to
[17:19] Speaker 11: give it all to him. They expect a lot from
[17:21] Speaker 11: Fernando Mendoza with the playbook and everything else. Mendoza, for
[17:24] Speaker 11: his part, knows that he has to earn the respect.
[17:27] Speaker 11: He has to earn the trust of the locker room.
[17:30] Speaker 11: I asked how he's going to do that. He said,
[17:32] Speaker 11: getting to learn from those guys so as maniacal in
[17:35] Speaker 11: his preparation in his work ethic that Fernando Mendoza has been.
[17:39] Speaker 11: He says he knows Max Crosby has a legendary work ethic.
[17:42] Speaker 6: He's eager to learn.
[17:44] Speaker 11: From guys like Crosby and earn their trust and real quick, you're.
[17:46] Speaker 14: Going to be meeting up with Fernando Mendoza again on
[17:49] Speaker 14: Sicco Demayo Omar is gonna be a whole week fan
[17:51] Speaker 14: tomorrow Hispanic Football Hall of Fame back up there, at
[17:54] Speaker 14: the Raiders facility where they're going to honor with the
[17:56] Speaker 14: great Latino football players who've been in the NFL and
[18:00] Speaker 14: who's been in the NFL. Is a great work, great
[18:01] Speaker 14: opportunity by you. Good work this weekend, Thank you, Great
[18:04] Speaker 14: work by Mike Gy and the Insiders all weekend with
[18:06] Speaker 14: the draft as well, might be.
[18:09] Speaker 1: And Omar Felisa, that is congratulations, my friend. We're talking
[18:13] Speaker 1: Browns and their draft. Love people giving some high marks
[18:17] Speaker 1: for Andrew Berry and company.
[18:19] Speaker 2: No, that was not a draft grade. Told you we're
[18:21] Speaker 2: not doing them tonight and check back in three years.
[18:24] Speaker 1: By the way, the Giants draft review that is coming
[18:28] Speaker 1: up along with the rest of.
[18:30] Speaker 2: The NFC East. We did the Giants already.
[18:32] Speaker 15: NFC East coming up after the break on the Insiders.
[18:44] Speaker 10: Right by the confluence of the three Rivers, six figures
[18:48] Speaker 10: of fans getting ready to watch the twenty twenty six
[18:51] Speaker 10: NFL drafts.
[18:55] Speaker 13: Biggest Raiders are on the clock with the first pick,
[18:58] Speaker 13: Rinando Minova and.
[19:00] Speaker 2: I look forward to proving and earning it every single day.
[19:02] Speaker 2: David Bailey here, my love, Carnell Tape.
[19:05] Speaker 7: WHOA, that's an embarrassment of riches.
[19:07] Speaker 13: The Los Angeles Rams select Hi Simpson.
[19:10] Speaker 7: Okay, this is the first big shocker.
[19:14] Speaker 10: First round is in the books and a very emotional, fun,
[19:18] Speaker 10: unpredictable first night. And now it's time for night number two.
[19:22] Speaker 10: The only individual left in the green.
[19:26] Speaker 13: Room were the thirty six pick, the Houston Texans select
[19:29] Speaker 13: Dayden McDonald.
[19:30] Speaker 7: All right, this is emotional, man. Just I know I
[19:32] Speaker 7: supposed to be here. I'm just so blended.
[19:34] Speaker 10: The first ever game for the NFL in Rio de
[19:37] Speaker 10: Janeiro my Rokanya Stadium.
[19:39] Speaker 7: I think I said that right. I like it. I'm
[19:40] Speaker 7: not gonna argue with you.
[19:41] Speaker 10: I think it's called Macarain and Jim down the specimens
[19:44] Speaker 10: for you off its birth.
[19:50] Speaker 6: Steelers.
[19:52] Speaker 10: Night two has been quite something else Day three, they
[19:57] Speaker 10: already have a trade.
[19:58] Speaker 7: The Raiders have traded up with the Bill.
[20:00] Speaker 10: Jamaad McCoy, Amanda Meyer, the Hall of favors who have
[20:03] Speaker 10: come from the fourth round, and we aim to please.
[20:06] Speaker 7: Here we go.
[20:07] Speaker 10: The Jets just chose somebody and they are clapping and
[20:10] Speaker 10: a must like whoever it is in Mexico City.
[20:24] Speaker 3: She can't be tonight.
[20:26] Speaker 1: She's with me.
[20:28] Speaker 3: It's bag. I'll keep you sure. Look your first season.
[20:35] Speaker 7: It's not off from the home of the It's urge.
[20:44] Speaker 6: The draft is the best.
[20:45] Speaker 5: I love it, I miss it already, but it's not
[20:48] Speaker 5: going anywhere just yet. Time for Draft review, presented by
[20:51] Speaker 5: Alexis joining me in rapport Judabats to Mark Ross, our
[20:55] Speaker 5: front office expert at analysts, Mark, let's get into it
[20:58] Speaker 5: a little bit, uh, with the New York Giants will
[21:01] Speaker 5: do a little NFC East tonight. How do you assess
[21:05] Speaker 5: with the Giants did, especially having two top ten picks.
[21:09] Speaker 3: Well, the Giants absolutely crushed it.
[21:11] Speaker 9: And look, we've heard about the highest player on the board.
[21:14] Speaker 9: Every team drafted the highest player of the board. Well,
[21:16] Speaker 9: undoubtedly r VL rees was the highest player of the
[21:19] Speaker 9: Giants board, probably the number one on most teams boards.
[21:22] Speaker 9: They absolutely got a steal there at five with Rvlreas
[21:26] Speaker 9: going there, who is just going to be a phenomenon
[21:28] Speaker 9: Just everybody talk about, well they got too many edges. No,
[21:30] Speaker 9: this guy can play all over the place and is
[21:33] Speaker 9: going to be a dynamic playmaker.
[21:34] Speaker 6: And then doubling up at.
[21:36] Speaker 9: Ten with Francis Malayno, the tackle from Miami who undoubtedly
[21:40] Speaker 9: was in their top five, their top two or three
[21:43] Speaker 9: on their board as well, and then even to get
[21:45] Speaker 9: Colton Hood, the corner from Tennessee in the second round.
[21:49] Speaker 7: There who I had as a.
[21:51] Speaker 9: Could have been the bottom of the first round pick,
[21:53] Speaker 9: maybe my third or fourth corner. So the Giants to
[21:56] Speaker 9: me got three shore fire starters and absolute playmakers there
[22:01] Speaker 9: with their first three picks.
[22:03] Speaker 4: All right, another team in the NFC East that had
[22:06] Speaker 4: two first rounders that Dallas Cowboys. How do you assess
[22:09] Speaker 4: how they did.
[22:11] Speaker 7: Well?
[22:11] Speaker 9: Dallas had a plan. Look, they needed to fix the defense.
[22:14] Speaker 9: They couldn't get any worse. So anybody they added who
[22:17] Speaker 9: is going to help that defense. But they get Calea
[22:19] Speaker 9: down to again as a safety, but was really to
[22:24] Speaker 9: me a top five top talent where you know this
[22:27] Speaker 9: guy is going to be a shorefire all pro type
[22:30] Speaker 9: of player, just so smart, so crafty, unbelievable instincts and
[22:35] Speaker 9: ability to get around the football. And then to double
[22:37] Speaker 9: up again with Malachi Lawrence the edge from Central Florida
[22:41] Speaker 9: who they needed to get that extra pass rush to
[22:44] Speaker 9: go with Rashaun Gary who they signed in the offseason,
[22:48] Speaker 9: and then go again with lt Overton and Jayshawn Barnum
[22:52] Speaker 9: the DN from Michigan. So of course they had that
[22:55] Speaker 9: concerted effort of our offense is great. We know we
[22:57] Speaker 9: can do on that side of the ball, but hey,
[23:00] Speaker 9: you got to go get some defensive players and they
[23:01] Speaker 9: did it.
[23:02] Speaker 5: Mark Diego's had a very notable draft for several reasons,
[23:05] Speaker 5: several viral moments of gol anyone surrounding mkayle Lemon.
[23:08] Speaker 6: More on that.
[23:09] Speaker 5: In a second, but overall, how do you assess what
[23:12] Speaker 5: the Eagles did in the entire draft?
[23:15] Speaker 9: Yeah, of course this is going to be talked about
[23:17] Speaker 9: forever with this trade up in the scooping mkayle Lemon
[23:22] Speaker 9: over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
[23:23] Speaker 3: But you're talking about the fit there.
[23:25] Speaker 9: We're really an absolute playmaker mostly in the slot, super smart,
[23:29] Speaker 9: super crafty inside there. And then to go get Eli
[23:33] Speaker 9: Stowers as well, you know, the flex tight end to
[23:36] Speaker 9: play inside as well. So it'll be really interesting because
[23:38] Speaker 9: Jalen hurts his strength is on the outside, so you're
[23:41] Speaker 9: really going to have to adjust his game. New offensive
[23:44] Speaker 9: coordinator there, Sewan Manion. It seems as if, like, Okay, Jalen,
[23:47] Speaker 9: you're gonna have to expand the game and get these
[23:49] Speaker 9: guys on the inside to hit these quick hitters to
[23:52] Speaker 9: get the ball into Lemon and Stour's hand and say,
[23:54] Speaker 9: let's go make some plays for us.
[23:58] Speaker 4: All right, let's wrap it up with one Washington Sunny
[24:00] Speaker 4: Styles in the first round.
[24:02] Speaker 3: What'd you make of that?
[24:04] Speaker 9: Yeah, kind of kind of calm compared to the other
[24:06] Speaker 9: three teams of Washington flew under the radar with such
[24:09] Speaker 9: big moves from those other teams. Have the two first
[24:12] Speaker 9: round picks, and then the drama with Philly and you
[24:14] Speaker 9: know Sonny Styles who slid in there were you know
[24:17] Speaker 9: that defense needed a lot of help as well. The
[24:20] Speaker 9: huge signings of the offseason. You're paying a ton of
[24:23] Speaker 9: money for Oway and Chase on there to solidify that
[24:26] Speaker 9: pass rush. So now you've got the quarterback of the
[24:28] Speaker 9: defense there in Sonny Styles. And I really like the
[24:31] Speaker 9: Antonio Williams pick though in the third round the wide
[24:33] Speaker 9: receiver from Clemson talked about mkayle Lemon working the slot,
[24:37] Speaker 9: but Williams really is super special there at a slot
[24:40] Speaker 9: as well, a lot of quick hitters there for Jane Daniels.
[24:42] Speaker 6: Let Terry McLaurin work on the outside.
[24:45] Speaker 7: I like the k Tron Allen pick as well.
[24:47] Speaker 9: In the sixth, sixth round, the running back for Penn
[24:50] Speaker 9: State who bring that tough, tough running, you know, just
[24:54] Speaker 9: downhill type grinder there that'll need there in that offense.
[24:59] Speaker 6: So much of the fun stuff that draft is. Get
[25:01] Speaker 6: through it.
[25:01] Speaker 5: You pay attention to the end, you're like, wow, what
[25:03] Speaker 5: in the world just happened, and take in the next
[25:04] Speaker 5: several weeks to process.
[25:05] Speaker 6: All of it. More great stuff. You're going to join
[25:08] Speaker 6: us more in the coming show in weeks and days and.
[25:11] Speaker 5: All that to kind of get us through this great
[25:13] Speaker 5: stuff as always, just as this one that is the
[25:16] Speaker 5: viral moment for mackay Lemon, one of the highlights of
[25:20] Speaker 5: the first round.
[25:21] Speaker 6: Why is Philly calling me?
[25:30] Speaker 8: Come on listen, listen, Hey, w Philly, you really just
[25:40] Speaker 8: treated this.
[25:46] Speaker 2: This is Howie Roseman on the GM of the Ecles.
[25:47] Speaker 2: How you doing Remember a walk on the heel? That
[25:53] Speaker 2: was kind of fun? How about how about we do
[25:56] Speaker 2: that for a living. We just traded up. We're picking you.
[26:01] Speaker 2: You're an Eagle congrat's brother. We trained out. We took
[26:04] Speaker 2: Makaile Lemmon.
[26:09] Speaker 1: That was Aaron moorehead in the back there in a
[26:11] Speaker 1: very crowded Eagles draft room. He's the wide receivers coach
[26:14] Speaker 1: in Philadelphia. He's had a lot of new additions lately,
[26:17] Speaker 1: including McKay lemon and Hobbie Roseman gave the same answer
[26:20] Speaker 1: about AJ Brown.
[26:21] Speaker 2: AJ Brown is a member of the Eagles, that's great.
[26:23] Speaker 2: He also said, we have nothing agreed to as far
[26:25] Speaker 2: as the trade. That's great.
[26:26] Speaker 1: We'll see what happens come June first and beyond. In
[26:29] Speaker 1: the meantime, MacKaye Lemon a guy that's willing to do
[26:31] Speaker 1: the dirty work, the tough work over the middle. You
[26:34] Speaker 1: got a quarterback you want him to throw over the
[26:36] Speaker 1: middle of the field. The Eagles do there, bring back
[26:39] Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard who can do some of that. McKay lemon
[26:41] Speaker 1: now as well as the Eagles try to stack that
[26:44] Speaker 1: receiver room. No matter what A J. Brown or no,
[26:47] Speaker 1: AJ Brown felt like they needed depth at that position.
[26:50] Speaker 2: They certainly have that as of right now.
[26:53] Speaker 1: Although if you take away the number one guy to
[26:54] Speaker 1: look differently, Ian live.
[26:57] Speaker 5: On the Minnesota Vikings. Well, let me get to the
[27:00] Speaker 5: Cowboys first. The Dallas Cowboys added to their receiver room.
[27:04] Speaker 5: We'll get to a little receiver news. As a second
[27:06] Speaker 5: for the Vikings, NBS mark wes Valdez Scaling signing a
[27:09] Speaker 5: one year deal with the Cowboys.
[27:10] Speaker 6: Another shot for him.
[27:11] Speaker 5: This was the news I was about to talk about before.
[27:13] Speaker 5: Jordan Adison gets his fifth year option picked up by
[27:15] Speaker 5: the Vikings.
[27:16] Speaker 6: No surprise.
[27:17] Speaker 5: They told us they're going to do it a couple
[27:18] Speaker 5: weeks ago, and today they actually did it. The Vikings
[27:21] Speaker 5: also threw a little bit of a curveball with the
[27:24] Speaker 5: selection of Caleb Banks, and this is an interesting one.
[27:27] Speaker 5: Took um eighteenth overall earlier than most people believed, most
[27:30] Speaker 5: of because he's come back from another broken foot, the
[27:33] Speaker 5: injured at the Combine.
[27:34] Speaker 6: But they believed a couple things.
[27:36] Speaker 5: One, he was for sure the most talented player on
[27:39] Speaker 5: their board by a lot. Two, Florida loved him, spoke
[27:43] Speaker 5: very very highly about his character and this was a
[27:47] Speaker 5: big time physical beast that Brian Flores, the defensive coordinator,
[27:51] Speaker 5: has loved Caleb Banks. A surprised goes to the Vikings.
[27:55] Speaker 5: They believe he is going to make a huge impact.
[27:57] Speaker 4: Judy, let's talk about the Cleveland Browns. You remember they
[28:02] Speaker 4: had an awesome rookie class last year. Well, maybe they're
[28:06] Speaker 4: going to have an awesome rookie class this year. Let's
[28:10] Speaker 4: start with Spencer Fano, the offensive tackle who went look
[28:13] Speaker 4: at the size of him ninth overall. Remember, the Cleveland
[28:16] Speaker 4: Browns have totally overhauled their offensive line this offseason. They
[28:20] Speaker 4: used something like fourteen different offensive line combinations. Last year
[28:25] Speaker 4: was not a good situation. The whole thing got blown up.
[28:27] Speaker 4: So now they are starting over. Spencer Fano the tackle.
[28:31] Speaker 4: Then they drafted two wide receivers in a Row, Casey
[28:35] Speaker 4: Concepcion and Denzel Boston in.
[28:37] Speaker 3: The second round.
[28:38] Speaker 4: Then they added another offensive lineman, Austin Barber in the
[28:42] Speaker 4: third round. So whoever winds up being the starting quarterback
[28:46] Speaker 4: for the Cleveland Browns and they've got a competition going on.
[28:50] Speaker 4: They are going to have good weapons, and they are
[28:52] Speaker 4: presumably going to have much better protection than they had
[28:56] Speaker 4: last season. Let's stay in the AFC North we know,
[29:00] Speaker 4: of course, the Bengals' biggest move this offseason came before
[29:02] Speaker 4: the draft, getting Dexter Lawrence from the Giants. This is
[29:06] Speaker 4: what they did with the draft. They stuck with the
[29:09] Speaker 4: defensive line with their first pick, and that came in
[29:13] Speaker 4: round number two.
[29:14] Speaker 3: You see the picks here.
[29:16] Speaker 4: Duke Tobin of the Bengals talked to media today about
[29:20] Speaker 4: the draft, but he also talked about Joe Burrow's contract
[29:23] Speaker 4: situation here.
[29:24] Speaker 16: He is, It's been good. Joe's positive, and you know
[29:29] Speaker 16: he wants to help. He wants to be involved, and
[29:32] Speaker 16: he believes in our team and his teammates and the
[29:36] Speaker 16: guys that we've got coming in.
[29:38] Speaker 2: Have you approached Joe Burrow about a restructure?
[29:41] Speaker 7: Is that's something you would do?
[29:42] Speaker 16: Oh, those are things that we're working through after the draft.
[29:45] Speaker 16: And again we've layered in challenges, but we're up to
[29:49] Speaker 16: them and we do it because we got the opportunity
[29:54] Speaker 16: to add the right people and the right players.
[29:57] Speaker 4: We have talked about some of the headlined news so
[30:01] Speaker 4: far in this show. Next up, we're going to talk
[30:03] Speaker 4: about Under the Radar Drafts. Mark and Steve are going
[30:07] Speaker 4: to be back on the show Under the Radar Drafts
[30:11] Speaker 4: coming up next on The Insiders.
[30:22] Speaker 7: The second overall pick of this draft.
[30:24] Speaker 2: Is David Bailey, linebacker.
[30:29] Speaker 10: Texas, tex David Bailey is the highest drafting defensive player
[30:34] Speaker 10: in jet's history.
[30:35] Speaker 5: With the fifth overall pick, the New York Football Giants
[30:39] Speaker 5: select Arvel Reese, linebacker from the Ohio State University.
[30:44] Speaker 2: This is the big time get for the Giants.
[30:46] Speaker 9: This is a really, really good football player that is
[30:49] Speaker 9: very wrong.
[30:49] Speaker 7: Well I have to say this thing real. The tenth pick,
[30:52] Speaker 7: the New.
[30:52] Speaker 13: York Giants select Francis Mawrinoa tackle Miami.
[30:57] Speaker 10: So the Giants, with their two first n picks go
[31:00] Speaker 10: defense Rvel Reese and Francis Maui.
[31:03] Speaker 7: Noah, alright, I'll die about this man.
[31:07] Speaker 13: We're the sixteenth pick, the New York Jets elect Kenyon Sadik.
[31:11] Speaker 7: There you go, Joe in Oregon. You know that forty
[31:14] Speaker 7: he ran at the combine, one of the fastest tight
[31:16] Speaker 7: ends that we've seen in history.
[31:18] Speaker 6: You don't get the nickname Sadik the freak for being slow.
[31:20] Speaker 13: Where the thirtieth picks, the New York Jets select Omar
[31:24] Speaker 13: Cooper junior wide receiver Indiana.
[31:27] Speaker 7: And now he goes putting his jet hat on. He's
[31:31] Speaker 7: going to New York.
[31:35] Speaker 2: The Jets had a great draft. Yeah, that's right. But
[31:37] Speaker 2: the Giants had a great drift.
[31:39] Speaker 1: Yeah all right, three first round picks, two first round
[31:41] Speaker 1: picks the New York market. Yeah, okay, anybody can do that, right,
[31:45] Speaker 1: anybody can break that down.
[31:47] Speaker 2: But here on the inside, as we like to go deeper.
[31:49] Speaker 2: So let's go to some.
[31:51] Speaker 1: Under the radar, non New York market teams that really
[31:55] Speaker 1: did well.
[31:56] Speaker 2: I like this segment. That's a good segmal. Why he's
[31:57] Speaker 2: let's start in Kansas City.
[31:58] Speaker 12: Get well, well then, Michael, since I'm from Missouri, I'm
[32:01] Speaker 12: I'm gonna talk to my Missouri accident right here. Look,
[32:05] Speaker 12: I love what the Chiefs did right here because they're
[32:07] Speaker 12: trying to replicate what they didn't with that great draft
[32:09] Speaker 12: class in twenty twenty two where they went heavy defense.
[32:12] Speaker 12: But Mark, they had to go heavy defense because only
[32:15] Speaker 12: George Carr Laftis is the defender left from that twenty
[32:17] Speaker 12: twenty two draft class.
[32:18] Speaker 7: So they trade up.
[32:19] Speaker 14: They got Montsire Delaying out of LSU, the stud corner.
[32:23] Speaker 14: Then at number twenty nine in the draft pick they
[32:25] Speaker 14: got from the rate from the Rams for Tret McDuffie,
[32:28] Speaker 14: they go on, they draft defensive.
[32:30] Speaker 3: Tackle Peter Woods.
[32:31] Speaker 14: Marks family looks like they're coming back from the Frankie
[32:34] Speaker 14: Beverly and Mains concert.
[32:35] Speaker 7: Drafting all white and he's righty to rob it.
[32:38] Speaker 14: Then they come back and they get the edge Mason
[32:41] Speaker 14: Thomas out of Oklahoma.
[32:42] Speaker 7: Mark.
[32:43] Speaker 14: These are positions we know that they had to address
[32:45] Speaker 14: with their defense. They lost too many players off of defense,
[32:48] Speaker 14: so that was significant and then they go out. They
[32:50] Speaker 14: had seventh round the Jeff garrett Usmeyer to the quarterback,
[32:53] Speaker 14: somebody they can groom as well for possibly to see
[32:55] Speaker 14: if he's down the road.
[32:56] Speaker 6: But I like what the Chiefs did.
[32:57] Speaker 14: We talked about it before the draft, Mark they needed
[33:00] Speaker 14: to talk up on defense, and they took their shot
[33:03] Speaker 14: for sure.
[33:04] Speaker 9: The show me state right Missouri. And before I let
[33:06] Speaker 9: go here with the j he was trying to replicate
[33:09] Speaker 9: Chris Jones. Chris Jones a little inconsistent in college, Peter Wood,
[33:13] Speaker 9: same thing, trying to replicate that Chris Jones. But I'm
[33:15] Speaker 9: gonna go with the Ravens here, who absolutely ravened out
[33:18] Speaker 9: on their first two picks.
[33:20] Speaker 3: With Ione and Zion Young.
[33:22] Speaker 9: Just two nasty, tough, physical players. You won't find anybody
[33:26] Speaker 9: at those positions in this draft more tough and physical
[33:29] Speaker 9: with those guys. But they loved how they doubled up
[33:31] Speaker 9: on big, strong receivers there, which of Kobe Lane and
[33:35] Speaker 9: Elijah Sharat, Chandler Rivers there, the corner from Duke in there,
[33:39] Speaker 9: that Nickel just super smart crafting, You'll love him. And
[33:42] Speaker 9: then get a starting punter and Ryan Eckley out of
[33:44] Speaker 9: Michigan State much like they drafted Tyler Loop their kicker
[33:47] Speaker 9: last year, to go in there and to start. They
[33:51] Speaker 9: find the same thing in the sixth round getting the punter.
[33:53] Speaker 9: So love what the Ravens did overall addressing the needs,
[33:56] Speaker 9: but really just getting physical, tough players.
[34:00] Speaker 14: Yeah, the physicality that they drafted. They're back in stride again.
[34:04] Speaker 14: You know what Els could be back in stride again.
[34:05] Speaker 14: We're going to the Miami Dolphins. Look at their draft.
[34:09] Speaker 14: They go out, they get the massive guy, Caden Proctor.
[34:13] Speaker 14: They had to rebuild this offensive line, so they get
[34:15] Speaker 14: Cayden Proctor with their second first round pick. They get
[34:17] Speaker 14: the corner out of San Diego State, Chris Johnson. But
[34:20] Speaker 14: mark what they did in the second and third and
[34:24] Speaker 14: fourth rounds, going out and get a Jacob Rodriguez, the
[34:27] Speaker 14: inside linebacker, the playmaker, the peanut punch master.
[34:31] Speaker 7: That is somebody who.
[34:32] Speaker 6: Could really help their defense.
[34:34] Speaker 14: And his mentor Zach Thomas, the Hall of Famer from
[34:36] Speaker 14: Texas Tech who played for the Miami Dolphins, who was
[34:39] Speaker 14: a playmaker as well.
[34:40] Speaker 7: Also, they go out and they get.
[34:42] Speaker 14: The hybrid safety linebacker Kyle Lewis out of Pittsburgh. I
[34:46] Speaker 14: have no idea why he fell as far as he did.
[34:49] Speaker 14: But this is somebody who gets the ball out. You
[34:51] Speaker 14: can play him in a lot of different positions. So
[34:54] Speaker 14: Miami had a lot of work to do at a
[34:56] Speaker 14: lot of positions. And then the one position that they drafted,
[34:59] Speaker 14: we don't know if it's gonna happened right away.
[35:00] Speaker 7: Wide receiver Chris Bell.
[35:02] Speaker 14: Also the dynamic playout of Louisville is coming off that acl.
[35:05] Speaker 14: He's somebody who can really help out this team a
[35:08] Speaker 14: little bit later, but we know they needed help at
[35:10] Speaker 14: wide receivers mark they drafted three.
[35:15] Speaker 9: Definitely some happy feelings down there in Miami after that draft,
[35:18] Speaker 9: especially Jacob Rodrigae is going to bring back visions of
[35:21] Speaker 9: Zach Thomas there as a tackling machine, Steve, but I'm
[35:25] Speaker 9: gonna go with another team in that state, the Tampa
[35:27] Speaker 9: Bay Buccaneers. Talking about the Ravens getting physical players, Tampa
[35:30] Speaker 9: Bay may have matched them with Ruben Bain, who he
[35:33] Speaker 9: saw how angry he was after going It wasn't a slide, Ruben.
[35:37] Speaker 9: Look you're still in a great spot there, but he
[35:40] Speaker 9: was all business coming across that stage.
[35:42] Speaker 7: Wasn't even putting on the hat.
[35:43] Speaker 6: Let's go.
[35:44] Speaker 9: And then Josiah Trotter, the linebacker from Missouri my very
[35:48] Speaker 9: first draft drafted his father, Jeremiah Trotter with the Philadelphia Eagles.
[35:52] Speaker 9: He brings that same toughness and physicality as his dad.
[35:56] Speaker 9: Attacking machine talked about Jacob Rodriguez, Josia Hahd Trotter there
[36:00] Speaker 9: all over the field, tough, physical and then Keante Scott,
[36:04] Speaker 9: the nickel corner from Miami who pound for pound for
[36:08] Speaker 9: his position, one of the toughest as well. So just
[36:11] Speaker 9: love that Tampa Bay had that defense, had a need
[36:14] Speaker 9: and had an identity Steve of these are great football players,
[36:18] Speaker 9: but also are bringing that toughness, tenacity, and nastiness to
[36:23] Speaker 9: bring that defense up to park.
[36:24] Speaker 7: One hundred percent.
[36:25] Speaker 6: Mark a lot of joy and pain coming.
[36:28] Speaker 14: To the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with some of their draft talent.
[36:31] Speaker 14: And for those of you who don't know, Mark and
[36:33] Speaker 14: I has absolutely killed this segment with the greatest hits
[36:37] Speaker 14: of Frankie Beverly in May's dropped in every one of
[36:42] Speaker 14: our analytic reviews to those teams.
[36:43] Speaker 7: Mike hera follow.
[36:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, I will never forget Jalen Hurts sitting with the
[36:47] Speaker 1: Lombardi Trophy and a cigar in the locker room after
[36:50] Speaker 1: they won the Super Bowl. The Eagles did listening to
[36:52] Speaker 1: Frankie Beverly, and he said, I always listened to Franky Beverley.
[36:55] Speaker 1: So Frankie Beverly. Maybe this year's halftime Super Bowl. Uh,
[37:01] Speaker 1: Frankie Beverly. No, No, a tribute, A tribute.
[37:04] Speaker 2: I coming up. But the insiders, h we got Will Campbell. Caleb,
[37:14] Speaker 2: how are we doing?
[37:15] Speaker 7: We're doing great?
[37:16] Speaker 2: How are you doing?
[37:16] Speaker 3: Awesome?
[37:17] Speaker 14: Man? Hey, listen, we just made a trade, all right,
[37:20] Speaker 14: so we are.
[37:22] Speaker 2: We're gonna make you our first round take man.
[37:24] Speaker 7: Congratulations, awesome, Thank you so much.
[37:26] Speaker 2: I appreciate its. Caleb allri Man, it's coach Rabel.
[37:32] Speaker 7: I'm coach you doing We're doing great, man.
[37:35] Speaker 2: Congratulations.
[37:36] Speaker 14: We're excited to have you.
[37:39] Speaker 10: I hope you're with yeah, I hope you're with your family,
[37:42] Speaker 10: and uh, you're enjoying us and we can't wait to
[37:45] Speaker 10: get you here.
[37:46] Speaker 7: All right.
[37:47] Speaker 2: That was Thursday.
[37:48] Speaker 1: Then Mike Rabel was not there on Saturday, was with
[37:50] Speaker 1: his family for counseling. He said, in regard to everything
[37:54] Speaker 1: that's happened off the field with him, but back at
[37:57] Speaker 1: the team facility today, as a colleague ed ESPN Adam
[38:02] Speaker 1: Schefter tweeted ian the Caleb Lomo selection, everybody said, oh boy.
[38:08] Speaker 2: Moving on from Will Campbell.
[38:09] Speaker 1: You don't move on from a top five draft pick
[38:12] Speaker 1: that quickly. Okay, the Patriots saying Will Campbell's still the
[38:15] Speaker 1: left tackle. That's what Brabel said right after the Super Bowl.
[38:18] Speaker 1: They liked Lomo's flexibility. So just a guy that they
[38:22] Speaker 1: thought could play a lot of spots, including maybe right
[38:25] Speaker 1: tackle because Morgan Moses was on the fence about coming
[38:27] Speaker 1: back this year.
[38:28] Speaker 5: But this is a fascinating pick, and I think, first
[38:30] Speaker 5: of all, the way this happened was interesting too. I
[38:32] Speaker 5: started getting calls before the draft that the Patriots were
[38:35] Speaker 5: making noise about possibly moving up, and I started to think,
[38:38] Speaker 5: why would the Patriots want to move up?
[38:40] Speaker 6: And I sort of thought, all right, if there's a
[38:41] Speaker 6: run on.
[38:42] Speaker 5: Tackles kind of through the Lions and the Panthers, then
[38:46] Speaker 5: maybe there's only going to be one really good guy
[38:48] Speaker 5: left that did not have maxahnic Suore going early. But
[38:51] Speaker 5: I did think that somebody would possibly trade up for
[38:54] Speaker 5: Caleb Loomu, and I thought, all right, the Patriots make sense.
[38:58] Speaker 6: But then it's like, well, they.
[38:59] Speaker 5: Don't need a left tack but okay, but they may.
[39:02] Speaker 5: And here's what I would say. The Patriots took someone
[39:05] Speaker 5: who has played left tackle at a very high level,
[39:07] Speaker 5: who has a lot of potential, probably needs to get
[39:10] Speaker 5: a little bit stronger, but has a lot of potential.
[39:13] Speaker 5: What they gave themselves was optionality. At the worst, they say,
[39:16] Speaker 5: all right, well, we just took our starting right tackle
[39:18] Speaker 5: at twenty nine, no big deal. At the best, lom
[39:21] Speaker 5: who comes in shows the kind of feed and agility
[39:23] Speaker 5: they want, and they say, you know what, he could
[39:25] Speaker 5: be our left tackle in the future.
[39:26] Speaker 6: Just put Will Campbell anywhere? Who cares?
[39:29] Speaker 5: Get the best five players online. Once you take a guy,
[39:32] Speaker 5: you take him, it doesn't matter where. Just get the
[39:34] Speaker 5: five best offensive linement on the field. The Patriots gave
[39:37] Speaker 5: themselves a good opportunity to do that with this pick, right.
[39:41] Speaker 4: Remember Will Campbell actually started last season off pretty well.
[39:44] Speaker 4: Then he got hurt, suffered a knee injury, and just
[39:47] Speaker 4: never came back. And obviously the playoffs were very bad.
[39:51] Speaker 4: So certainly the hope is that now he will be
[39:53] Speaker 4: fully healthy and look like the Will Campbell we saw
[39:56] Speaker 4: in the early part of the season before the injury.
[39:58] Speaker 4: But with this pick, does is It gives them a
[40:01] Speaker 4: lot of flexibility. He could play on the right side
[40:04] Speaker 4: if Morgan Moses doesn't come back, or he could eventually
[40:06] Speaker 4: replace him. He could be the swing tackle. He might
[40:09] Speaker 4: even be able to play guard if they needed to
[40:12] Speaker 4: do that. So this gives them a lot of flexibility
[40:15] Speaker 4: on the offensive line. We saw how badly the offensive
[40:18] Speaker 4: line performed during their playoff run last year, so this
[40:22] Speaker 4: was clearly the thing they had to fix, and this
[40:24] Speaker 4: is a good way to fix it. I feel like
[40:26] Speaker 4: they sort of went back and looked at the Super
[40:28] Speaker 4: Bowl tape and said, we got to fix the pass
[40:30] Speaker 4: rush and we've got to fix the offensive line, and
[40:32] Speaker 4: they address those both with early picks.
[40:35] Speaker 3: Good pick for the Patriots.
[40:37] Speaker 4: It's always hard when you're picking down at the end
[40:39] Speaker 4: of the draft order, but they got a really good
[40:41] Speaker 4: one player who I don't.
[40:43] Speaker 3: Think a lot of people thought was going to be
[40:44] Speaker 3: sitting there.
[40:46] Speaker 1: So much talk about the Patriots has been what's happening
[40:48] Speaker 1: off the field for this past weekend, at least, the
[40:51] Speaker 1: bulk of the conversation was about the roster, building it
[40:54] Speaker 1: and filling in some gaps or some needs for a
[40:57] Speaker 1: team that wants to get back to the Super Bowl,
[40:59] Speaker 1: proved that that was in a fluke and make sure
[41:02] Speaker 1: that they're solidified in.
[41:03] Speaker 2: The right places.
[41:04] Speaker 1: Elliot Wolf and company felt like they did that over
[41:06] Speaker 1: the weekend. Now it's about getting on the field this
[41:08] Speaker 1: spring and making sure that they can continue to move forward.
[41:13] Speaker 1: Mike Rabel, that is the hope for him, that he
[41:14] Speaker 1: can continue to move forward.
[41:17] Speaker 2: We shall see.
[41:17] Speaker 1: It's still going to be a topic, a storyline, and
[41:19] Speaker 1: people are going to ask about We'll see how Verble
[41:21] Speaker 1: handles it. He was asked if he's going to miss
[41:23] Speaker 1: any more football activity coming up, so that he can't
[41:24] Speaker 1: really answer that right now, So we'll see about that
[41:26] Speaker 1: part of things. The Insiders, we can tell you where
[41:30] Speaker 1: we're going to be here. You can find us Monday
[41:32] Speaker 1: to Friday on NFL Network seven pm Eastern. Yes, and
[41:36] Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast. It's the off season. It's
[41:38] Speaker 1: consistent during the season that we're sort of all over
[41:40] Speaker 1: the place because we've got some football programming. Right now,
[41:43] Speaker 1: Monday to Friday, seven pm Eastern, NFL Network, that's where
[41:46] Speaker 1: you find The Insiders.
[41:49] Speaker 4: The Draft in Pittsburgh, this is bonkers. Eight hundred and
[41:52] Speaker 4: five thousand people attended the draft in Pittsburgh over the weekend.
[41:57] Speaker 4: That is a record. That's despite rain on day three.
[42:01] Speaker 4: No question, Western Pennsylvania loves its football. Great showing by Pittsburgh,
[42:08] Speaker 4: great football city.
[42:10] Speaker 6: Great golf city.
[42:11] Speaker 5: Right here, Dallas, this is Brian Schottenheimer losing to Caleb
[42:15] Speaker 5: Downs or winning. I'm not really sure who one, but
[42:18] Speaker 5: I know they had a little pipe pot competition on
[42:20] Speaker 5: his visit. After the Cowboys drafted me said, you know what,
[42:22] Speaker 5: let's have a rematch.
[42:24] Speaker 6: And I'm just gonna be honest. I'm going to go
[42:26] Speaker 6: with the player, not the coach. Coach is old.
[42:29] Speaker 2: I was talking to a head coach recently.
[42:30] Speaker 1: I said, how do you guys like get out in
[42:31] Speaker 1: the course in the spring, and like, you haven't swung
[42:34] Speaker 1: all year? They say, well, it's putting. We put a
[42:36] Speaker 1: lot in our office so we can be good at
[42:37] Speaker 1: that anyway. Cayden Ouigian, also playing golf, the Iowa wide receiver,
[42:42] Speaker 1: when he found out they were selected by the Steelers,
[42:44] Speaker 1: got the call. Rachel Bierman, his girlfriend, took the video
[42:47] Speaker 1: here of him getting the call and finding out that
[42:49] Speaker 1: he is now an NFL player, which is kind of
[42:51] Speaker 1: odd because he had to figure he was about to
[42:53] Speaker 1: get drafted, right, And what kind of call would you
[42:55] Speaker 1: take on the You always take calls on the course
[42:57] Speaker 1: for news.
[42:58] Speaker 5: I have two kinds of responses I have. Is this
[43:01] Speaker 5: urgent or can I hit you back? Or oh my god,
[43:03] Speaker 5: I got to answer right now. And if it's oh
[43:04] Speaker 5: my god, I got to answer right now. You know
[43:06] Speaker 5: I got to answer right now.
[43:08] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's that time of year.
[43:10] Speaker 1: Answer and calls on the chorus playing golf period, Let's
[43:12] Speaker 1: go do it inside of a cedarmarkt Let's go
