[0:08] Speaker 1: Quby one in the draft. Pretty sure who that's going
[0:10] Speaker 1: to be.
[0:10] Speaker 2: Tune in anyway, I want to see the official selection
[0:13] Speaker 2: from the Raiders.
[0:13] Speaker 3: How about you?
[0:14] Speaker 4: B two?
[0:14] Speaker 2: Could he go at three? We're talking about the Cardinals. Yes,
[0:18] Speaker 2: that is coming up early on in this program here.
[0:21] Speaker 2: Baldi's BOC big men on campus.
[0:27] Speaker 1: Baldi loves the big guys, you know that, and he's
[0:29] Speaker 1: going to break it down for.
[0:30] Speaker 2: Us ahead of next week's draft and Texas Tech Edge.
[0:34] Speaker 2: A guy likes to run around and maybe sometimes through
[0:37] Speaker 2: those big men.
[0:39] Speaker 1: Rebello Hike joining the program tonight.
[0:42] Speaker 2: He is one of our interviews here on The Insiders. Yeah,
[0:47] Speaker 2: welcome inside with us Ian Rappaport, Judy Batista, myself, Mike Garafolo.
[0:52] Speaker 2: We've got Baldi coming up very shortly. We've got Jane Slater.
[0:55] Speaker 2: We also have Anthony Beck, head coach of the ufls
[0:58] Speaker 2: Orlando's Storm, and Jets analyst.
[1:01] Speaker 1: We're going to talk Jets in the draft. We love
[1:02] Speaker 1: to talk Jets in the draft, so do their fans.
[1:05] Speaker 2: And right after the Jets pick next week, at least
[1:07] Speaker 2: says it's currently scheduled, the Arizona Cardinals will pick. They
[1:11] Speaker 2: hosted Ty Simpson for a visit Ty Simpson. Yeah, we're
[1:16] Speaker 2: expecting him to be QB too. The question is when
[1:18] Speaker 2: is he going to go in the draft? Well, let's
[1:22] Speaker 2: check in with GM of the Cardinals, Monteasin Fort and
[1:25] Speaker 2: the head coach, Micha Lafleur, two guys that are in
[1:27] Speaker 2: lockstep despite being on opposite ends of the hair spectrum.
[1:31] Speaker 5: Accuracy decision making, those are always at the forefront, you know,
[1:35] Speaker 5: And so every year we put a there's there's different
[1:38] Speaker 5: players the quarterbacks, different sizes, different styles, and so you know,
[1:43] Speaker 5: it looks different. The college game looks different than the
[1:45] Speaker 5: NFL game does, and so it's tough to us to
[1:48] Speaker 5: really look at those guys and project how they're going
[1:50] Speaker 5: to translate to our league. And so, you know, every
[1:53] Speaker 5: year is different, and we've certainly did our share of
[1:55] Speaker 5: evaluation on the quarterbacks in this year's draft.
[1:57] Speaker 6: You know, ultimately, you're going to play the best player
[1:59] Speaker 6: that you think is gonna give you the best chance
[2:01] Speaker 6: to win in period. If all things are equal, then yeah,
[2:04] Speaker 6: you'd rather have that veteran kind of show that guy.
[2:08] Speaker 6: But again, if we all believe as an organization that
[2:10] Speaker 6: the young guy is going to give you the best
[2:12] Speaker 6: chance during that sixty minute game to win, then you're
[2:15] Speaker 6: gonna throw them out there.
[2:16] Speaker 2: Ian, we are a one week and one hour away
[2:19] Speaker 2: from the Raiders being on the clock and to start
[2:21] Speaker 2: get some to get some answers here.
[2:23] Speaker 1: But I'll tell you, w why don't you just give
[2:24] Speaker 1: it to us? Now? What are the Cardinals going to
[2:25] Speaker 1: do when it comes to the quarterback position?
[2:28] Speaker 7: Well, the Cardinals do have the number three overall pick.
[2:31] Speaker 7: I would say this. I've been surprised during drafts before.
[2:33] Speaker 7: I still remember the Mitchell Trubisky pick by the Chicago
[2:36] Speaker 7: Bears traded up and took him that I think blew
[2:38] Speaker 7: everyone's heads apart a stunner. That is possible, but I
[2:43] Speaker 7: would be surprised based on what I know if the
[2:45] Speaker 7: Cardinals took good quarterback at three. It certainly seems like
[2:48] Speaker 7: several other position players there, including Jeremiah Love by the way,
[2:51] Speaker 7: his window I believe starts at number three. It's really
[2:54] Speaker 7: that next pick for the Cardinals where we say do
[2:57] Speaker 7: they end up taking a quarterback? And there are two
[2:59] Speaker 7: teams early on in the second round, the Jets and
[3:01] Speaker 7: the Cardinals who have done the quarterback work and still
[3:03] Speaker 7: do not have a franchise quarterback we don't believe on
[3:06] Speaker 7: their roster, you would imagine Ty Simpson would be that guy,
[3:10] Speaker 7: would be QB two. So for the Arizona Cardinals, who
[3:13] Speaker 7: again still do need a franchise quarterback, this is the question.
[3:16] Speaker 7: Do they wait it out for the New York Jets,
[3:18] Speaker 7: cross their fingers, hope the Jets don't take one, and
[3:21] Speaker 7: then at thirty four say, okay, we now select ty
[3:24] Speaker 7: ty Simpson or do they say, oh, I don't know,
[3:27] Speaker 7: swing a trade with someone that Monteaziboard has already traded
[3:30] Speaker 7: for traded with. During the NFL Draft, Texas general manager
[3:33] Speaker 7: Nick Cassio at twenty eight or something, hop up a
[3:36] Speaker 7: few picks and say all right, we're gonna just jump
[3:39] Speaker 7: up and make sure we get our quarterback. That really,
[3:41] Speaker 7: to me is the question, because if the Jets or
[3:44] Speaker 7: the Cardinals do not take ty Simpson Judy, then his
[3:48] Speaker 7: weight may be a long way. So all eyes are
[3:50] Speaker 7: on the back couple picks of the first round to
[3:53] Speaker 7: see if there's a quarterback trade right there.
[3:57] Speaker 4: I feel like the draft release starts at number three
[4:00] Speaker 4: with the Cardinals because I think we know what the
[4:02] Speaker 4: Raiders are going to do, and I think we know
[4:04] Speaker 4: what the Jets are going to do and are not
[4:06] Speaker 4: going to do at number two, So I do think
[4:08] Speaker 4: at three this is where things start to fall into
[4:11] Speaker 4: place for us. Don't forget, they don't have to take
[4:14] Speaker 4: a quarterback at number three. They could follow the model
[4:18] Speaker 4: that the New York Giants followed last year, which take
[4:20] Speaker 4: whoever they want. In that case it was a dual
[4:23] Speaker 4: carter and edge. They could do that here for the
[4:25] Speaker 4: Cardinals that is in need for them as well, and
[4:27] Speaker 4: then come back into the bottom of the first round
[4:31] Speaker 4: and get the quarterback. Ty Simpson visited with the Arizona
[4:34] Speaker 4: Cardinals yesterday, the final day that they could have visits.
[4:39] Speaker 4: They are in need of a quarterback. I thought, what
[4:41] Speaker 4: was so interesting about the press conferences. They wouldn't even
[4:44] Speaker 4: talk about a front runner as a quarterback. They forget
[4:47] Speaker 4: about naming a starter. They're not going to put the
[4:49] Speaker 4: horse race into play at all yet. I would be
[4:53] Speaker 4: surprised if the Jets took a quarterback, certainly in the
[4:57] Speaker 4: first round and even in the second round. So the
[4:59] Speaker 4: way maybe for them to wait until the second round anyway,
[5:02] Speaker 4: But they always have the option again of sneaking back
[5:05] Speaker 4: into the bottom of the first rount and getting Ty Simpson.
[5:08] Speaker 4: He is going to be in Pittsburgh for the draft,
[5:11] Speaker 4: the only quarterback in the green room. It would certainly
[5:14] Speaker 4: make for great television if they were to do that.
[5:17] Speaker 2: As we wait to see the Cardinals' long term plan
[5:19] Speaker 2: at the quarterback position, how about the guy that will
[5:21] Speaker 2: be protecting whoever it is his back blindside. They'll always
[5:26] Speaker 2: have Paris well, at least for the next two years.
[5:28] Speaker 2: I mean, they want to lock them up beyond that,
[5:30] Speaker 2: But I just wanted to make that Casablanca reference there.
[5:33] Speaker 2: Paris Johnson Junior, the fifth year option locked in for
[5:36] Speaker 2: nineteen million dollars, was earlier today, and again I'm expecting
[5:40] Speaker 2: a lot more money in more years for him from
[5:43] Speaker 2: the Cardinals at some point.
[5:44] Speaker 1: Just not there just yet.
[5:45] Speaker 2: Meanwhile, in Tennessee, another team in the top five here. Yeah,
[5:49] Speaker 2: they're getting some work in now as the Robert Sala
[5:52] Speaker 2: era begins. These guys are really working. Man in the
[5:54] Speaker 2: editing makes it look even that much more intense. Here
[5:58] Speaker 2: is Titan's row manager Mike Borganzi on what he's gonna
[6:02] Speaker 2: do with all nine picks.
[6:03] Speaker 8: Tell us, Mike, I certainly think there's a there's a
[6:07] Speaker 8: cluster of players up there that we that we really like,
[6:10] Speaker 8: but in particular Jehn Myers. You know, I think he's
[6:12] Speaker 8: a special player. You know, I've talked about this is
[6:15] Speaker 8: the combine before. You know, they can speed, you can
[6:18] Speaker 8: do things out of the backfield as a receiver. But
[6:21] Speaker 8: it's also a group of edge guys up there that
[6:23] Speaker 8: they're really good too. So I think we'll have some
[6:25] Speaker 8: really good options there at four.
[6:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, it seemed like he was setting the table for potentially.
[6:31] Speaker 2: I mean, there's a bunch of teams I think in
[6:32] Speaker 2: the top ten ball that are saying, come and get
[6:34] Speaker 2: us when it comes to potentially trading.
[6:36] Speaker 1: We've got a bunch of guys we like.
[6:37] Speaker 2: Don't go too far though, because we hear this thing
[6:39] Speaker 2: falls off a cliff in the middle of the first round.
[6:41] Speaker 2: So you're the Titans, you're Mike Borganzi. If you're saying
[6:43] Speaker 2: it for what are you doing there?
[6:46] Speaker 9: Well, first of all, if you just looked at free agency, Mike,
[6:49] Speaker 9: and you look at who they signed, I mean they
[6:50] Speaker 9: traded for Jermaine Johnson and signed John Franklin Myers. It
[6:54] Speaker 9: sure seems like Robert Sala has a lot of influence
[6:57] Speaker 9: on how they're building this roster. So with that in
[6:59] Speaker 9: my at four, I mean, if you follow Salo around
[7:03] Speaker 9: from Seattle where he had Bobby Wagner, San Francisco where
[7:06] Speaker 9: he had Fred Warner, New York where he had you know, CJ. Moseley,
[7:10] Speaker 9: He's always had a quarterback running his defense. So I
[7:14] Speaker 9: just think like, if Sonny Styles is there at four,
[7:17] Speaker 9: like you have to consider them because that would be
[7:19] Speaker 9: their quarterback on defense. They got their quarterback on offense.
[7:22] Speaker 9: And then it does look like if you want to
[7:24] Speaker 9: put Robert SLOs defense on the field week one, it
[7:27] Speaker 9: looks like if one of the edge rushers David Bailey
[7:30] Speaker 9: Ruben Bain Junior are there, that might complete the front four.
[7:34] Speaker 3: And I think they're looking to do that.
[7:36] Speaker 9: They can certainly look at Jeremiah Love and go and
[7:38] Speaker 9: see the talent, but I think they feel pretty good
[7:40] Speaker 9: about Tony Pollard and Todd Spears at least that's what
[7:43] Speaker 9: Mike Borgonzi and Robert Salo said much earlier in this offseason.
[7:47] Speaker 9: So I'm looking at Sonny Styles, I'm looking at edge rusher,
[7:50] Speaker 9: and then oh yeah, they lost their starting center and
[7:53] Speaker 9: starting right guard they've got to fill those positions as
[7:55] Speaker 9: well as the draft moves along, well, he.
[7:59] Speaker 2: Just broke it down perfect for the Team's really a three,
[8:01] Speaker 2: four or five and elsewhere in the top ten two
[8:03] Speaker 2: that you can draft Jeremiah Love and you can take him,
[8:07] Speaker 2: and he's an unbelievable player. But you've got like these
[8:10] Speaker 2: other caannalyizing players at these other key positions here. So
[8:13] Speaker 2: I just can't wait to see what GM and team
[8:16] Speaker 2: at some point goes. You know what, this guy's just
[8:17] Speaker 2: too good. We've got to grab him as one of
[8:19] Speaker 2: the pieces of drama to watch in the top ten. Baldi,
[8:22] Speaker 2: don't go anywhere big men on campus. We're gonna be
[8:24] Speaker 2: talking about them and just a bit and we know
[8:26] Speaker 2: how you love to break that down. Here's what the
[8:27] Speaker 2: Cleveland Browns are looking at when it comes to.
[8:30] Speaker 1: Their draft picks. Andrew Berry. You got the receiver position.
[8:35] Speaker 2: Could that be something they're potentially looking to address there
[8:38] Speaker 2: with their one of their two first round picks Andrew Berry.
[8:42] Speaker 10: They both have size, you know, they both can separate,
[8:46] Speaker 10: good hands. You know, obviously Carnell he's a you know,
[8:51] Speaker 10: if he's not a an NFL receiver, he probably could
[8:55] Speaker 10: be a trapiece artist with how acrobatic he is. And
[8:57] Speaker 10: you know Jordan's an excellent creator with the ball his hands.
[9:00] Speaker 10: So they're too excellent, excellent, excel excellent prospects.
[9:06] Speaker 2: That's Carnel Tait and Jordan Tyson. Your boy didn't do
[9:08] Speaker 2: a great job of setting that one up there. So
[9:10] Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you who those guys are. Okay,
[9:11] Speaker 2: names you're gonna hear early in the draft.
[9:13] Speaker 1: Ian.
[9:13] Speaker 2: Let's look at the Browns. They've done some maneuvering that
[9:16] Speaker 2: they said, did some maneuvering last year. They had Dravis
[9:18] Speaker 2: Hunter right in their laps, and they said we're going
[9:20] Speaker 2: to slide back a little bit and get some value.
[9:22] Speaker 2: Could potentially see that as they try to get ready
[9:25] Speaker 2: for next year's draft as well. Among the teams that
[9:27] Speaker 2: could be stockpiling some stuff. What are you expect it
[9:29] Speaker 2: from the Browns?
[9:30] Speaker 7: Yeah, first of all, last year then just gets the value.
[9:32] Speaker 7: They got some value and a really really good player,
[9:36] Speaker 7: someone who's gonna be one of the building blocks in
[9:37] Speaker 7: Mason Graham of their defense. But be right, you look
[9:39] Speaker 7: at this year and I think everyone thinks that Andrew
[9:42] Speaker 7: Berry is just going to move right like that's sort
[9:44] Speaker 7: of one of the draft storylines is all right, so
[9:46] Speaker 7: obviously they're six now and then they got to pick
[9:48] Speaker 7: later where they actually going to start picking. But there
[9:51] Speaker 7: are going to be some really really good players there.
[9:53] Speaker 7: And just taking kind of a look at this thing
[9:55] Speaker 7: that clip we saw right there was about the two receivers.
[9:58] Speaker 7: First of all, there is a possibilit that both of
[10:00] Speaker 7: those receivers are not there by the time the Cleveland
[10:04] Speaker 7: Browns pick. The Giants certainly could have a need of receiver.
[10:06] Speaker 7: You would wonder if they would at least take a
[10:08] Speaker 7: look at someone like Carnell Tate there at number five.
[10:11] Speaker 7: Obviously some other options as well, but I think most
[10:13] Speaker 7: people believe the Cleveland Browns will be looking at the
[10:16] Speaker 7: offensive line right They still need a starting tackle. They
[10:20] Speaker 7: might have their choice of all of the tackles in
[10:22] Speaker 7: the draft, whether it's Francis Mawley, Noo, whether it's Lomu,
[10:25] Speaker 7: whether it's Fanu. I mean, there are some options there
[10:28] Speaker 7: for the Cleveland Browns. They have focused so much on
[10:31] Speaker 7: their offensive line this offseason. That has been one of
[10:34] Speaker 7: the missions for Andrew Berry and for all of the
[10:37] Speaker 7: new coaches and the coaching staff there. Having the opportunity
[10:40] Speaker 7: to take the best offensive tackle was a pretty good
[10:43] Speaker 7: offensive tackle draft. Certainly, that is going to be something
[10:46] Speaker 7: that is going to dictate where the Cleveland Browns go
[10:49] Speaker 7: over here and really how much value they believe that
[10:52] Speaker 7: holds well.
[10:53] Speaker 4: They have turned over their entire offensive line this offseason.
[10:56] Speaker 4: I think part of the reason why it's so intriguing
[10:59] Speaker 4: the idea that Drew Berry could move back and get
[11:01] Speaker 4: more picks, certainly more picks for next draft, which is
[11:05] Speaker 4: perceived to be a stronger class. But even move back
[11:07] Speaker 4: now is he did such a good job drafting last season.
[11:11] Speaker 4: I mean, they got rock solid contributing players at so
[11:16] Speaker 4: many different spots last season that they have really put
[11:19] Speaker 4: in place a foundation of youth. And if he can
[11:22] Speaker 4: do that again this season, and that's a high bar.
[11:25] Speaker 4: It's hard to draft as well as they drafted last season.
[11:28] Speaker 4: But if you can hit on a few picks this
[11:31] Speaker 4: year the way you hit on so many last year,
[11:33] Speaker 4: you've really turned over a large chunk of your roster
[11:36] Speaker 4: to very young, productive players. You could see that being
[11:40] Speaker 4: the seeds of a true turnaround with the Browns. Of course,
[11:43] Speaker 4: we have to see if their quarterback situation is completely settled.
[11:47] Speaker 4: But as you pointed out, if they could get a
[11:49] Speaker 4: top tier offensive lineman with that first pick and then
[11:53] Speaker 4: load up again on really solid young players, you could
[11:57] Speaker 4: see that maybe the tide is finally going to turn
[12:00] Speaker 4: for the Cleveland Browns.
[12:01] Speaker 2: Quarterbacks still one of the needs there, according to ESPN
[12:04] Speaker 2: dot Com for the Browns, and next year supposedly is
[12:08] Speaker 2: a loaded quarterback class. Right now, only one team has
[12:12] Speaker 2: multiple picks in the first round. That's the Jets, and
[12:14] Speaker 2: they don't have just two, they have three. So let's
[12:16] Speaker 2: see who comes out of next week with an extra
[12:18] Speaker 2: first round pick to try to start to set up
[12:20] Speaker 2: set themselves up for twenty twenty seven. Speaking of ESPN
[12:23] Speaker 2: dot Com, our colleague Adam Schefter at ESPN reporting that
[12:27] Speaker 2: Devon a Chan, who is not present for the start
[12:30] Speaker 2: of the team's voluntary offseason program last week, spotted in
[12:33] Speaker 2: the Dolphins facility today a Chan showed up as a
[12:36] Speaker 2: sign of good faith as the two sides work toward
[12:41] Speaker 2: a solution.
[12:42] Speaker 1: That was the rest of that.
[12:42] Speaker 2: Right there, got two hundred and eighty characters, right, That's
[12:45] Speaker 2: all we allow here on NFL Network. We also allow
[12:48] Speaker 2: some cowboys talk from time to time. Believe it or not,
[12:50] Speaker 2: and Jane Slater is coming to tell us what that
[12:53] Speaker 2: gentleman right there might be thinking with his multiple first
[12:56] Speaker 2: round picks. But before that, oh Height, a young man
[13:01] Speaker 2: who was hoping to get too great Heights in the NFL,
[13:04] Speaker 2: the Texas Tech defensive end.
[13:05] Speaker 1: He joins us to talk about his journey. That is
[13:08] Speaker 1: up next. All the in times.
[13:20] Speaker 4: There you see Romelo Heights announcement that he was going
[13:23] Speaker 4: to enter the draft. And now here is Romelo Height
[13:28] Speaker 4: joining us on the Insiders. We are just one week
[13:32] Speaker 4: out from the draft. Rommelo, thanks so much for taking
[13:35] Speaker 4: a moment to join us here on the Insiders. I
[13:37] Speaker 4: am Gudi Batista. I know this can be a little
[13:39] Speaker 4: bit of a nerve wrecking time. How are you holding up?
[13:42] Speaker 4: What have you been doing?
[13:44] Speaker 11: Honestly, I've just been, you know, trying to throughout the
[13:46] Speaker 11: process recently, the past you know, a week or so,
[13:50] Speaker 11: I've been taking visits to, you know, a few different teams,
[13:54] Speaker 11: and honestly, I've just been stacking days, you know, and
[13:57] Speaker 11: just waiting toil that time come.
[13:58] Speaker 4: So you just had a birthday, first of all, congratulations,
[14:02] Speaker 4: happy birthday. It was just a few days ago. You're
[14:04] Speaker 4: twenty five years old. I know you've been talking to teams.
[14:07] Speaker 4: What kind of feedback do you get from teams about
[14:10] Speaker 4: you being twenty five years old?
[14:13] Speaker 11: The age haven't really been a concern, you know, shockingly,
[14:17] Speaker 11: because you know a lot of you know, on the media,
[14:20] Speaker 11: you see a lot about my age, but teams haven't
[14:22] Speaker 11: really been concerned about it.
[14:23] Speaker 4: You know, you spent six years in college, obviously the
[14:28] Speaker 4: most recent one at Texics Tech. What did you get
[14:31] Speaker 4: out of that experience? For six years?
[14:36] Speaker 11: You know, every year, you know, I just seen myself mature,
[14:40] Speaker 11: you know, year to year, whether it was in my
[14:43] Speaker 11: game or alter field habits, taking care of my body,
[14:46] Speaker 11: you know, just becoming a you know, one of those
[14:48] Speaker 11: vets uh in the building. That's what I was, you know,
[14:52] Speaker 11: mainly focusing on throughout the years, you know, just continuing
[14:55] Speaker 11: the progress year to year.
[14:57] Speaker 4: You obviously had a huge year for Texas Tech this
[15:01] Speaker 4: previous season. Ten sacks, eleven and a half tackles for lost,
[15:04] Speaker 4: thirteen quarterback hits, you were all big twelve first team.
[15:08] Speaker 4: What clicked for you last year?
[15:12] Speaker 11: Honestly, you know, just realizing the talent that I had,
[15:15] Speaker 11: and you know, just taking fully advantage of it, just
[15:18] Speaker 11: you know, continuing to stay in the lab, take care
[15:21] Speaker 11: of my body, you know, just a little things, you know,
[15:23] Speaker 11: continue to perform at a high level. So my main
[15:26] Speaker 11: focus was, you know, take care of my body as
[15:29] Speaker 11: much as I can this year, and you know, continue
[15:31] Speaker 11: to prevent my craft and live in the lub.
[15:34] Speaker 4: What have you been working on since since you got
[15:37] Speaker 4: finished with school? What have you been working on in
[15:39] Speaker 4: anticipation from the draft? Maybe? What have teams told you
[15:42] Speaker 4: they'd like you to work on?
[15:46] Speaker 11: Mainly teams talk about my run game, you know, just
[15:49] Speaker 11: anchoring down more.
[15:50] Speaker 12: I feel like I played pretty pretty well in the
[15:52] Speaker 12: run game, but.
[15:54] Speaker 11: You know they brought it up a lot, and that's
[15:57] Speaker 11: something they you know, focus on throughout this Prossys was me,
[16:00] Speaker 11: you know, continuing to work on my run game.
[16:04] Speaker 4: How have you been doing that in the last months
[16:07] Speaker 4: or so?
[16:08] Speaker 11: Honestly, I've just been you know, stacking pounds, trying to
[16:11] Speaker 11: stack pounds. I feel like, you know, me anchoring downore
[16:14] Speaker 11: in the run game.
[16:15] Speaker 12: Come with Wait all right?
[16:16] Speaker 4: You have said that your dad, Ronnie is your biggest inspiration.
[16:20] Speaker 4: He's a former marine. I know he had you doing
[16:22] Speaker 4: push ups as a kid. What did you learn from
[16:24] Speaker 4: your dad that maybe is helping you now?
[16:28] Speaker 11: Uh, you know, just I'll face, I've faced a lot
[16:32] Speaker 11: of adversity, you know, uh, throughout my college career and man,
[16:37] Speaker 11: just you know, growing up in the household with my dad.
[16:40] Speaker 11: Uh he just you know, some of his stories and
[16:43] Speaker 11: seeing what he went through. Just you know, it's a
[16:46] Speaker 11: it's a constanmer mind and whatever I'm facing adversity.
[16:49] Speaker 4: So you're obviously teammates with David Bailey, who is projected
[16:53] Speaker 4: to be one of the top guys off the board.
[16:56] Speaker 4: We've all read the scouting reports.
[16:58] Speaker 1: Uh, we know, we've seen the tape.
[17:01] Speaker 4: What should we know about David Bailey the player, the
[17:04] Speaker 4: guy that maybe we don't already know about him?
[17:07] Speaker 11: Man, Uh, you know, David come out quiet to a
[17:10] Speaker 11: lot of people, but he you know, he actually have
[17:12] Speaker 11: a personality. He's a great guy, great teammate, and man,
[17:15] Speaker 11: he's a he's a workaholic.
[17:17] Speaker 12: You know, he works, He works hard. He wanted he
[17:20] Speaker 12: was one of the.
[17:20] Speaker 11: Works artists working guys in the building, and man, he
[17:23] Speaker 11: deserved everything coming this way.
[17:25] Speaker 4: All right, Well, I've read that your favorite players. It's
[17:28] Speaker 4: like a who's who of past Rushing, Lawrence Taylor, DeMarcus,
[17:32] Speaker 4: where Von Miller. When you think about your game and
[17:35] Speaker 4: maybe where you want your game to go when you
[17:37] Speaker 4: get to the next level, who do you compare yourself to?
[17:42] Speaker 11: Recently, I, you know, been comparing myself to Knit Benino
[17:45] Speaker 11: because you know, he kind of had the same tool
[17:47] Speaker 11: bag as me.
[17:48] Speaker 12: Uh. He switches up his game, you know, whether it's power.
[17:51] Speaker 11: Speed, but man, he's a he's a he's a go
[17:54] Speaker 11: getter and I've kind of been you know, he kind
[17:56] Speaker 11: of reminds me of myself a little bit.
[18:00] Speaker 4: That is a pretty good guy to try to emulate
[18:04] Speaker 4: and aspire to be, like Romelo Height. Thank you so
[18:06] Speaker 4: much for joining us.
[18:07] Speaker 1: Lots of luck.
[18:08] Speaker 4: We can't wait to see where you get picked, and
[18:10] Speaker 4: we can't wait to watch you in the NFL.
[18:12] Speaker 12: Thanks, thank you so much, Thank you all for having me.
[18:14] Speaker 2: Here's what Adam Peters and the crew in Washington are
[18:18] Speaker 2: working with. Yeah, it made a lot of trades. So
[18:20] Speaker 2: you got one, three, five, six, six, and seven. Those
[18:24] Speaker 2: are the rounds that they will be picking in. You
[18:25] Speaker 2: can always accumulate more by making some other trades, so
[18:28] Speaker 2: we'll see what they wind up doing.
[18:30] Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport.
[18:31] Speaker 2: This is a commander's team that needed to make some
[18:33] Speaker 2: adjustments this offseason to get younger, to get faster in a.
[18:36] Speaker 1: Lot of places. You're obviously going to get younger in
[18:39] Speaker 1: the draft.
[18:41] Speaker 7: Yeah, I think there's a decent chance they get younger.
[18:43] Speaker 7: And I would also say this is a decent chance
[18:45] Speaker 7: they get better, at least their fans hoping so much. Mike,
[18:47] Speaker 7: of the focus of this offseason was doing all that
[18:50] Speaker 7: on defense. Last year's commander's defense was not what you
[18:55] Speaker 7: were looking for, ended up obviously making a ton of
[18:57] Speaker 7: staff changes. Obviously, this now for dan Quinn and his
[19:00] Speaker 7: union on defense becomes an unbelievably important situation. So I
[19:04] Speaker 7: would not be surprised. No predictions, but I would not
[19:07] Speaker 7: be surprised. As the commanders say, who is the best
[19:10] Speaker 7: defensive player on our board, we will just take him.
[19:13] Speaker 3: Now.
[19:13] Speaker 7: A couple potential options for them at number seven. Caleb Downs,
[19:18] Speaker 7: the really, really good safety from Ohio State. People talk
[19:21] Speaker 7: about his makeup like it is just crazy. I would say,
[19:23] Speaker 7: sunny styles off the ball. Linebacker here, Big Range, a dude,
[19:26] Speaker 7: also from Ohio State. They're another one where people love
[19:29] Speaker 7: their makeup. They just love the way they are wired
[19:32] Speaker 7: as they are looking for a new lynchpin of the defense.
[19:34] Speaker 7: You'd got to imagine both these guys would potentially be
[19:37] Speaker 7: in the conversation. And then Ruben Bain, the defensive end
[19:41] Speaker 7: from Miami likely to be on the board at this time.
[19:44] Speaker 7: These short arms have gotten a lot of conversation. But
[19:46] Speaker 7: he is a big, tough, burly, physical football player. Do
[19:51] Speaker 7: the Commanders go here? After adding so much of the
[19:53] Speaker 7: edgend free agency, They're going to have a lot of
[19:56] Speaker 7: options in a really, really good draft spot.
[20:00] Speaker 4: Adam Peters was asked a lot about the concept of
[20:03] Speaker 4: trading back because they don't have many picks, pick up
[20:06] Speaker 4: more picks. They only have three in the first five rounds,
[20:10] Speaker 4: three in the first four rounds, something like that, so
[20:12] Speaker 4: could they get more picks? He said, yeah, maybe you'd
[20:15] Speaker 4: like to do that if you were sure you could
[20:16] Speaker 4: still get your guy. But the most interesting point he
[20:19] Speaker 4: made is that the fact that the first round this
[20:21] Speaker 4: year is going from ten minutes to eight minutes, which
[20:24] Speaker 4: should be great for television, great to watch, is actually
[20:27] Speaker 4: going to make it harder to do trades when you
[20:29] Speaker 4: are on the clock. He can saying, if you're going
[20:31] Speaker 4: to do a trade while you're on the clock, You've
[20:34] Speaker 4: really got to have a lot of the pieces in
[20:36] Speaker 4: place already. You've got to have done a lot of
[20:38] Speaker 4: the legwork and have parameters in place before you're on
[20:41] Speaker 4: the clock. There's just not going to be enough time
[20:43] Speaker 4: to sit there, wait for the phone to ring, do
[20:46] Speaker 4: a trade, execute the trade, turn the card in. You're
[20:49] Speaker 4: going to have to have done a lot of prep
[20:51] Speaker 4: work before you do that. And he was suggesting at
[20:53] Speaker 4: least perhaps that might limit the number of trades we
[20:57] Speaker 4: see in the first round. And of course, guys, as
[20:59] Speaker 4: you know, if they're are not more than one quarterback
[21:01] Speaker 4: in the first round, that limits the trade possibilities too.
[21:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, and while they're making these trades, could they stockpile
[21:08] Speaker 2: picks for twenty twenty seven? Could they be this year's Steelers?
[21:10] Speaker 2: Remember the Steelers last year started the stockpile picks because
[21:14] Speaker 2: the draft was in Pittsburgh. Because that wasn't the primary reason,
[21:16] Speaker 2: but it was a secondary reason. Could Washington do that
[21:19] Speaker 2: they host the draft next year? We shall see what
[21:21] Speaker 2: Adam Peters and company wind up doing.
[21:24] Speaker 4: Judy, all right, this is a draft class we're going
[21:28] Speaker 4: to be watching closely. Here are the Kansas City Chiefs
[21:31] Speaker 4: draft picks. And this is wild. They pick in the
[21:34] Speaker 4: top ten, and they picked twice in the first round,
[21:37] Speaker 4: then they have a second rounder. These are huge picks.
[21:40] Speaker 4: It's kind of crazy. It feels a bit like a
[21:43] Speaker 4: reset year for the Kansas City Chiefs. Let's bring Baldy
[21:45] Speaker 4: back in to talk about the Chiefs. Baldy, we were saying,
[21:51] Speaker 4: they have lots of needs at the Chiefs. Unusual. They
[21:56] Speaker 4: have a lot of needs. What direction do you think
[21:58] Speaker 4: they need to go in?
[22:00] Speaker 9: You know, four years ago, Judy, they really struck go
[22:03] Speaker 9: Brett Veach, Andy Reid.
[22:04] Speaker 3: They went out. They had two picks in the first round.
[22:06] Speaker 9: Four years ago, they got Trent McDuffie, and they've got
[22:09] Speaker 9: George carl Loftis. They also in that draft got Jalen Watson,
[22:13] Speaker 9: Joshua Williams, Leo Chanel, Brian Cook, and those guys are
[22:16] Speaker 9: all gone outside of Carl Loftis. So they got to
[22:18] Speaker 9: restock their defensive shells here. And just knowing Steve Spagnola
[22:23] Speaker 9: as long as I've known him, he needs corners that
[22:25] Speaker 9: can lock you up on the outside. With that ninth pick,
[22:29] Speaker 9: you know, a corner if Monsieur Delayan is there, Like,
[22:32] Speaker 9: I got to believe that the conversation is being had
[22:35] Speaker 9: if he's there, to go get Steve Spagnola a corner
[22:38] Speaker 9: because he just lost three of them. And then you know,
[22:41] Speaker 9: last year they lost Charles de Menehu and Mike Dana, guys.
[22:44] Speaker 9: They gave him a lot of snaps off the edge.
[22:46] Speaker 9: They have to replace those guys and so and edge
[22:48] Speaker 9: rusher is also in play, and we haven't even begun
[22:52] Speaker 9: to talk about, you know, the quarterback Patrick Mahomes coming
[22:56] Speaker 9: back and what can you do for him outside of
[22:58] Speaker 9: bringing back to Super Bowl and v At running back,
[23:01] Speaker 9: Jalen Moore looks like he's going to be penciled at
[23:03] Speaker 9: right tackle, certainly a position they can look at. And
[23:06] Speaker 9: certainly with the injuries at receiver last year Rashid Rice
[23:10] Speaker 9: Xavier Worthy, they should be looking at receiver to help
[23:12] Speaker 9: out Patrick Mahomes as well.
[23:15] Speaker 4: When I sat down with Andy Reid at the annual meeting,
[23:18] Speaker 4: I asked him, do you have to come out of
[23:19] Speaker 4: this draft with an impact wide receiver? And he said,
[23:22] Speaker 4: we need to come out of this draft with good
[23:24] Speaker 4: players at multiple positions. Going to be very interesting to
[23:28] Speaker 4: watch it Baldi, don't go too far. You will be
[23:30] Speaker 4: back later in the show.
[23:31] Speaker 7: Ian twelve and twenty, that's where it starts for the
[23:35] Speaker 7: Dallas Cowboys really one of the more intriguing teams, thanks
[23:38] Speaker 7: in parts of those big trades they made this past
[23:42] Speaker 7: season and of course obviously this past offseason. What are
[23:45] Speaker 7: the Cowboys going to do? Are they going to trade up?
[23:47] Speaker 7: Are they going to trade down? Are they going to
[23:49] Speaker 7: do both? Our good friend Jane Slater is just going
[23:52] Speaker 7: to tell you the names that the Cowboys considering, are considering,
[23:56] Speaker 7: and why they're going to take him. That's not true, Jane.
[23:58] Speaker 7: Here's what I want to get into with you, right
[24:00] Speaker 7: because the Dallas Cowboys, I think everyone thinks that they
[24:03] Speaker 7: are trading up. They may not. We'll get to that
[24:05] Speaker 7: in a second. But tell me why the Cowboys would
[24:08] Speaker 7: consider trading up, or maybe just why they're going to
[24:11] Speaker 7: do it.
[24:12] Speaker 13: We'll put it this way, if you'll get all of
[24:14] Speaker 13: the Mott drafts right now.
[24:15] Speaker 4: Ian, it's all over the place.
[24:17] Speaker 13: I'm seeing corners, I'm seeing offensive tackles, I'm seeing this
[24:21] Speaker 13: notion of them trading up.
[24:22] Speaker 4: If I get this.
[24:23] Speaker 13: Nail on the head for you in I'm going out
[24:25] Speaker 13: and buying a lottery ticket because it's just all over
[24:28] Speaker 13: the place. Given the fact that the Cowboys have so
[24:31] Speaker 13: many needs on defense, but they also have two first
[24:35] Speaker 13: round picks. So let's get into some scenarios. There has
[24:38] Speaker 13: been a lot of chatter about the potential of the
[24:41] Speaker 13: Cowboys trading up to six. Look, the last time they
[24:45] Speaker 13: actually did that, you'd have to go back to twenty twelve.
[24:48] Speaker 13: So I think unless there was a situation where maybe
[24:51] Speaker 13: Rvel Reese is there and they could find themselves potentially
[24:55] Speaker 13: even having the Giants pass on sunny styles, I could
[24:59] Speaker 13: see them maybe picking up the phone calling Cleveland, they
[25:03] Speaker 13: would get six, and then maybe they would use those
[25:06] Speaker 13: twelve and twenty so that they would end up getting six,
[25:09] Speaker 13: seventy and maybe ninety.
[25:10] Speaker 4: Two across the first two days. That's a big if.
[25:14] Speaker 13: So let's go with why. I think that it's more
[25:16] Speaker 13: likely they'll stay put in Dallas could be just as
[25:20] Speaker 13: content letting the board fold them and taking the best
[25:22] Speaker 13: offiter available two picks the top twenty to fix this defense.
[25:26] Speaker 4: That would be real value.
[25:28] Speaker 13: Now, why give up just for one solution, especially when
[25:31] Speaker 13: they were multiple issues on that side of the ball.
[25:33] Speaker 4: So at twelve year.
[25:34] Speaker 13: Well, you're looking for names like Ohio State safety Kleb Downs,
[25:38] Speaker 13: Lsu corner mansor Delane, maybe Ohio State linebackers Sonny Styles
[25:43] Speaker 13: at these there and another corner Tennessee Tremad McCoy. And look,
[25:46] Speaker 13: a lot of people might hear me say Sonny Styles
[25:49] Speaker 13: at twelve, that's not going to happen. Well, back in
[25:51] Speaker 13: twenty twenty, people didn't think that Ceed Lamb was going
[25:54] Speaker 13: to be there, and he fell to them at seventeen.
[25:56] Speaker 13: So the other scenario that I could see, maybe they
[25:59] Speaker 13: move on just a little bit. You know, they have
[26:02] Speaker 13: the twelve, Maybe they call up Kansas City. I think
[26:04] Speaker 13: Kansas City has nine and twenty nine. Maybe they package
[26:07] Speaker 13: the twelve and twenty and then that way they can
[26:09] Speaker 13: go up.
[26:10] Speaker 4: But I think anyone's.
[26:11] Speaker 13: Saying that the Cowboys are heading into this draft and
[26:13] Speaker 13: they fully made up their mind that they're going to
[26:15] Speaker 13: trade up at six. I don't know about that. It's
[26:19] Speaker 13: certainly not going to be five and seven. Those are
[26:22] Speaker 13: teams in your division and they're certainly going to want
[26:24] Speaker 13: a lot. Cleveland makes the most sense, but there could
[26:27] Speaker 13: be a lot of value. They're still at twelve and
[26:29] Speaker 13: twenty and maybe a little bit easier if you picked
[26:31] Speaker 13: up the phone and called Kansas City.
[26:34] Speaker 3: Man.
[26:34] Speaker 7: I wonder, Jane, if RV. Reese is there at five,
[26:37] Speaker 7: you know that the cowboys will be tempted. Do they
[26:40] Speaker 7: call their good friends the Giants and try to swing
[26:42] Speaker 7: a trade. We have seen an mcast trade inside the
[26:46] Speaker 7: top ten. That was the Devonte smithe We'll see we
[26:49] Speaker 7: see something like that again. By the way, I should
[26:50] Speaker 7: mention the comp for RVO Reese that a lot of
[26:53] Speaker 7: evaluators have is a guy you may have heard of
[26:56] Speaker 7: named Micah Parsons. Not apples to apples, but that is
[26:59] Speaker 7: what they think of.
[27:00] Speaker 1: Jane.
[27:00] Speaker 7: Thank you very much, great stuff, thank you for joining us.
[27:03] Speaker 7: And if you wanted to know where Jane is going
[27:05] Speaker 7: to be during the draft, well there she is with
[27:09] Speaker 7: Kimberly Martin, our new colleague at ESPN in Dallas, Buddy
[27:13] Speaker 7: Jeff Darlington's with Dale's in Kansas City, Judy Byer Luncheon
[27:16] Speaker 7: with the Giants, Camon Saal with the Jets, Omar and
[27:20] Speaker 7: Lindsay with the Raiders.
[27:21] Speaker 1: Man.
[27:21] Speaker 7: There is synergy all over the place on this graphic,
[27:25] Speaker 7: and I love it. Spiging of synergy. A lot of
[27:28] Speaker 7: that going on in Pittsburgh. One week from literally now,
[27:43] Speaker 7: one of the.
[27:43] Speaker 2: UFL's expansion franchises travels to Houston looking for their first
[27:47] Speaker 2: ever win. It's the Louisville Kings and the Houston Gamblers
[27:50] Speaker 2: coming up next eight pm Eastern, immediately after The Insiders
[27:54] Speaker 2: right here on NFL Network. And then on Saturday, there
[27:57] Speaker 2: will be a battle of two and one teams facing
[28:00] Speaker 2: off in the nation's capital. The Saint Louis BattleHawks take
[28:03] Speaker 2: on the DC Defenders at twelve thirty Eastern on ABC
[28:07] Speaker 2: and ESPN. The UFL plays on the Disney Families family
[28:12] Speaker 2: of networks. They also play on Fox, where this gentleman
[28:16] Speaker 2: right here to my left.
[28:19] Speaker 1: His team, the Orlandos League of Three and Oero Orlandos Storm,
[28:22] Speaker 1: will take on the Birmingham Stallions at four pm on Fox.
[28:26] Speaker 2: Haven't said his name yet because he's got a long resume.
[28:27] Speaker 2: I got a layout first. He's the head coach of
[28:29] Speaker 2: the Orlando story Storm, his fourth year as the head
[28:32] Speaker 2: coach for the organization.
[28:35] Speaker 1: He is also a Jets color analyst.
[28:38] Speaker 2: We're gonna get to the Jets in just a little
[28:40] Speaker 2: bit here, because it's always fun to talk about the Jets.
[28:43] Speaker 2: He is a former Philadelphia Catholic League star. The Catholic
[28:47] Speaker 2: League has produced countless NFL players and one co host
[28:52] Speaker 2: of The Insiders. Here Anthony Beck, head coach of the
[28:54] Speaker 2: Orlando Storm joining us.
[28:56] Speaker 1: What's up, dude?
[28:57] Speaker 14: Oh fantastic, Mike, Thanks for having me on.
[29:01] Speaker 2: Appreciate you joining us. Give us the rundown of the
[29:04] Speaker 2: Storm three and zero. You know, I'm seeing the hype
[29:07] Speaker 2: videos before the games, I'm seeing the reactions after getting
[29:09] Speaker 2: there's incredible energy for the Storm right now.
[29:12] Speaker 1: What's been the story of the season so far for you?
[29:15] Speaker 14: First off, you know we're undefeated, and I think for us, man,
[29:18] Speaker 14: a winning culture is something that I've continued to try
[29:20] Speaker 14: to grow over going into my fourth season of playing
[29:23] Speaker 14: and coaching or excuse me, coaching in this league. We
[29:26] Speaker 14: got some excellent players, man, a lot of you know,
[29:28] Speaker 14: big name guys. You know kJ Hamler, a former NFL receiver,
[29:31] Speaker 14: second round pick who's done a fantastic job for us
[29:34] Speaker 14: getting a chance. Jack Plumber, a quarterback who I got
[29:37] Speaker 14: a lot of visual of him the last two years
[29:38] Speaker 14: as they played against the Jets in the preseason. Joined practice.
[29:42] Speaker 14: Has got to really study and learn his game. So
[29:44] Speaker 14: brought him on board, and he's been awesome.
[29:46] Speaker 2: Man.
[29:46] Speaker 14: Just if he's not a backup or a third guy
[29:49] Speaker 14: in the league, then you know I'm crazy because he's
[29:52] Speaker 14: been an awesome pro for us. But man, we got
[29:54] Speaker 14: a lot of young, talented players that were on NFL
[29:58] Speaker 14: training camp rosters and just trying to give him a chance. Man, Mike,
[30:01] Speaker 14: this is an opportunity league and we're just trying to
[30:04] Speaker 14: make them grow and give him a shot. And we
[30:06] Speaker 14: got some talented players that are going to give a
[30:08] Speaker 14: run for it, and we're going to continue to win
[30:10] Speaker 14: and get their shot to the league after the season.
[30:12] Speaker 3: Probably.
[30:14] Speaker 1: Yeah, kJ Hamler, you mentioned him. That's one of the
[30:16] Speaker 1: more interesting ones to me.
[30:18] Speaker 2: Incredibly talented second round pick you talked about he had
[30:20] Speaker 2: a little health issue at one point when I think
[30:23] Speaker 2: he was with Denver at the time, but the ability
[30:25] Speaker 2: has gotten him multiple looks in the NFL. How do
[30:28] Speaker 2: you kind of talk him up and say, hey, show
[30:30] Speaker 2: out here. This is almost like your rookie mini camp invite.
[30:34] Speaker 2: You see veterans sometimes doing that, and you can show
[30:36] Speaker 2: out for NFL teams.
[30:38] Speaker 14: Yeah, there's a lot of teams that wanted him. I
[30:40] Speaker 14: had to actually recruit him to come to us, and
[30:42] Speaker 14: we sold a lot of things. The way we run
[30:44] Speaker 14: our offense and our styles very pro. You know, you
[30:47] Speaker 14: think about Rams, Packers, Bengals, that's what we do, you know.
[30:51] Speaker 14: So we want to try to not only you know,
[30:53] Speaker 14: help develop players, but implement what the league is doing
[30:55] Speaker 14: so that they can really give their best. I would
[30:58] Speaker 14: say this kJ has been awesome, you know, a former
[31:00] Speaker 14: second round pick. Sometimes when guys come from the NFL,
[31:03] Speaker 14: you know, they feel like this is a step down,
[31:05] Speaker 14: like this isn't This is a great platform for players
[31:08] Speaker 14: to get their chance and get their shot. We love
[31:10] Speaker 14: featuring him. He's a phenomenal talent and he is where
[31:13] Speaker 14: his feet are. He loves it. He plays hard, he's
[31:15] Speaker 14: a great leader, and he's been all in of where
[31:18] Speaker 14: he's at and what he's doing. And he's been a
[31:20] Speaker 14: tremendous pick up for us.
[31:22] Speaker 1: I'm watching these shots of you.
[31:23] Speaker 2: You've got great head coach posture and demeanor there, and
[31:27] Speaker 2: I'll give you some numbers. Twenty five and eight as
[31:29] Speaker 2: a head coach, pretty darn good record. They're thirty one
[31:32] Speaker 2: of your players in the training camps over the last
[31:33] Speaker 2: three years.
[31:34] Speaker 1: Four active players.
[31:36] Speaker 2: Last season, you interviewed for the West Virginia head coaching
[31:39] Speaker 2: job your alma mater.
[31:40] Speaker 1: There is this, you know, college or NFL coaching. Is
[31:42] Speaker 1: that in your future?
[31:44] Speaker 14: Yeah, listen, I'm just growing and learning every year, Mike.
[31:48] Speaker 14: You know, I love being a head coach. I was
[31:49] Speaker 14: thrust it into a role that many people don't get.
[31:51] Speaker 14: When I first came into this league, I wasn't on
[31:54] Speaker 14: the top one hundred list of the XFL. But I
[31:56] Speaker 14: worked my way and I sold a vision and I
[31:58] Speaker 14: had a great plan and I've been able to implement
[32:00] Speaker 14: it now. And you know, the one thing that's been
[32:02] Speaker 14: the standard is the personnel side. I have to help,
[32:05] Speaker 14: you know, basically have to grow the team. I have
[32:07] Speaker 14: to pick the players I had help with with a GM,
[32:09] Speaker 14: and now this year I don't have a GM, so
[32:11] Speaker 14: I hand picked my team from scratch, and you know,
[32:14] Speaker 14: we've been able to put together a great culture. You know,
[32:17] Speaker 14: you'd think, hey, you come to this league, get yours,
[32:19] Speaker 14: you know, just put me in the game. Like I
[32:20] Speaker 14: try to give them more than that, develop them, help
[32:22] Speaker 14: them on and off the field, and help them grow.
[32:25] Speaker 3: They got a lot of holes.
[32:25] Speaker 14: Sometimes it's not just the x's and o's, there's other
[32:28] Speaker 14: things to help the aspect of this. So I love it, man. Yeah,
[32:32] Speaker 14: college of course. I mean, I'd love to be a
[32:33] Speaker 14: college head coach. You know, if someone gives me a
[32:35] Speaker 14: chance to sit down and let me sell a vision
[32:37] Speaker 14: and a plan, you know, I'd be prepared and ready
[32:41] Speaker 14: for that.
[32:41] Speaker 12: But I love where my feed art.
[32:42] Speaker 11: Man.
[32:42] Speaker 14: If the NFL is the next stop for me, we'll
[32:44] Speaker 14: see the best part about this, obviously, Mike, is I
[32:47] Speaker 14: coach in the spring. Filled my coaching, you know, juices
[32:50] Speaker 14: in the springtime, and I get to see my son
[32:52] Speaker 14: play in the fall. So it's been a nice dynamic
[32:56] Speaker 14: for me at least the last three seasons.
[32:59] Speaker 1: We'll go right there.
[33:00] Speaker 2: I was going to save it for last, but you know,
[33:02] Speaker 2: we're going to talk about some draft prospects with regard
[33:05] Speaker 2: to the Jets. At some point in the future. You're
[33:07] Speaker 2: gonna have to recuse yourself from talking about one draft
[33:09] Speaker 2: prospect in particular, and that is your son, roc Obeck,
[33:12] Speaker 2: the quarterback of Iowa State the last couple of years
[33:15] Speaker 2: now at Penn State.
[33:16] Speaker 1: How juice are you to see him in that stadium?
[33:19] Speaker 14: Man, I'm so proud of him. First off, what a
[33:21] Speaker 14: run at Iowa State. I mean, just a tremendous three
[33:24] Speaker 14: years in his journey there. You know, you pick the
[33:26] Speaker 14: school and you pick it for the coach, and Matt
[33:28] Speaker 14: Campbell's the guy and the reason why he went to
[33:30] Speaker 14: Iowa State. And you know he followed him to Penn
[33:32] Speaker 14: State to play in front of the crowds and play
[33:35] Speaker 14: in front of the big ten atmosphere for his last year.
[33:39] Speaker 12: I can't wait.
[33:39] Speaker 14: You know, he's coming in with the most wins in
[33:41] Speaker 14: college football of any quarterback in the FBS level. He's
[33:44] Speaker 14: got more experience than any player coming back at the
[33:47] Speaker 14: FBS level and that's what matters at the quarterback position.
[33:50] Speaker 14: And he's a great human being. I mean, he works
[33:53] Speaker 14: his process. Everything he's done to this point, he does
[33:56] Speaker 14: it in the dark and no one knows, and he
[33:59] Speaker 14: works as often. I just love it.
[34:01] Speaker 2: Man.
[34:01] Speaker 14: It's his journey, it's his time, and I'm just glad
[34:04] Speaker 14: to be a part of it from the outside looking in.
[34:05] Speaker 14: And it's stressful now. I mean, I've been a player
[34:07] Speaker 14: and a coach and there's nothing worse since fans watching
[34:10] Speaker 14: your son play quarterback. So but man, he's he stood
[34:13] Speaker 14: out and done a great job, and his career has
[34:16] Speaker 14: been awesome the watch.
[34:17] Speaker 2: Of course, he's a wonderful human being. He's got a
[34:20] Speaker 2: great mom man, he's got a great restime. Let's transition
[34:28] Speaker 2: to the Jets here. I mentioned you Jets radio analyst,
[34:30] Speaker 2: a former Jets player, yourself.
[34:32] Speaker 1: I know you've got a lot of lines in the organization.
[34:34] Speaker 2: Give me some juice on the Jets because listen, two
[34:37] Speaker 2: and sixteen, two picks in the.
[34:38] Speaker 1: First round three next year. I mean, it's unbelievable. The
[34:41] Speaker 1: riches right now, draft wisee four in the top forty four.
[34:44] Speaker 1: What are you expecting from the Jets next week?
[34:46] Speaker 14: Well, you know, the one thing I can tell you
[34:48] Speaker 14: is Darren Moosey did a phenomenal job in his draft
[34:51] Speaker 14: last year. A lot of those players got significant amount
[34:53] Speaker 14: of time on the offense and defensive side, and that
[34:56] Speaker 14: pays wonders as far as moving forward and getting value
[34:58] Speaker 14: for what you picked. And those guys really stood out.
[35:01] Speaker 14: And that's what's got me excited about this draft. You
[35:03] Speaker 14: have a lot of draft capital, you have a lot
[35:04] Speaker 14: of money and free agency. Obviously, some really good players
[35:08] Speaker 14: were picked up. Osai and Bara. You know, these are
[35:11] Speaker 14: two guys on the edge guys that they can, you know,
[35:13] Speaker 14: really be good pass rushers. They can help with the
[35:14] Speaker 14: run as well. He got right coming in and secondary.
[35:17] Speaker 14: Gino Smith is from the value standpoint, we all know
[35:19] Speaker 14: if he can get back to where he was just
[35:21] Speaker 14: two years ago. You know, think about the weapons they
[35:23] Speaker 14: already have and then what they're going to get in
[35:25] Speaker 14: the draft. I mean listen, defensively obviously is a place
[35:28] Speaker 14: where they want to get better. You think about edge rushers, obviously,
[35:31] Speaker 14: the linebacker position. Those are two big names with Bailey
[35:35] Speaker 14: and Reese that everybody's really talking about. You know, from
[35:37] Speaker 14: a receiver standpoint, Hey can you get another weapon out there?
[35:41] Speaker 14: You know the Jordan Tyson kid who's in the Big twelve.
[35:43] Speaker 14: I saw him the last two years. I saw him
[35:46] Speaker 14: on the sidelines. He didn't play in a lot of games,
[35:48] Speaker 14: so you got to really do your homework with him.
[35:50] Speaker 14: But he is a phenomenal talent. The kid I really
[35:52] Speaker 14: like is the conception you own kid you know from
[35:54] Speaker 14: Texas A and I like just a playmaker. You get
[35:58] Speaker 14: get the ball in his foot, in his hands, he
[35:59] Speaker 14: can make plays Like you need playmakers. That Jets need
[36:02] Speaker 14: more playmakers. They got the guys up front, the offensive lineman.
[36:06] Speaker 14: So if you piece it together right with the capital
[36:08] Speaker 14: that they have, I feel confident Deren Moodie is going
[36:11] Speaker 14: to have a great draft. I mean just you can
[36:12] Speaker 14: only go off what he's done, and I give him
[36:14] Speaker 14: an a for what he did last year in the draft.
[36:17] Speaker 2: It's Moujie season, it's Anthony Beck season. It's Storm season
[36:21] Speaker 2: down there in Orlando. Dude, we wish you all the best,
[36:24] Speaker 2: continued success.
[36:26] Speaker 1: We'll see where it goes in the future for you,
[36:28] Speaker 1: the multi talented Anthony Beck.
[36:31] Speaker 2: Check out the Orlando Storm this weekend by like Aj mccarrn,
[36:34] Speaker 2: the head coach of Birmingham, your former quarterback.
[36:37] Speaker 1: So I got a little bit of a rivalry going
[36:39] Speaker 1: on here. Huh.
[36:40] Speaker 14: Well, it's not a rival until you beat somebody. So
[36:42] Speaker 14: we'll see what happens. He hasn't beat me yet. I
[36:44] Speaker 14: won a lot of games, so we'll see. It's his
[36:46] Speaker 14: first one, it's coming off two losses. You know, we'll
[36:48] Speaker 14: see how he reacts to adversity. But we're gonna be
[36:51] Speaker 14: ready for him.
[36:51] Speaker 3: There's no quote.
[36:53] Speaker 1: I can hear the mind games being played right now.
[36:55] Speaker 1: Appreciate you, dude. Continued success and we'll see you down
[36:58] Speaker 1: the line.
[36:58] Speaker 7: All right, appreciate my go storm Ian Rappaport GDBT saan
[37:03] Speaker 7: our big man on campus, Brian Baldinger, who is gonna
[37:06] Speaker 7: dig a little deeper with his big men on campus. Baldy,
[37:10] Speaker 7: I will have you start. Give us some of your
[37:13] Speaker 7: unheralded large humans, please.
[37:17] Speaker 9: Gladly, Ian, I'm going to go straight to Annapolis, Maryland,
[37:21] Speaker 9: the United States Naval Academy their defensive tackle Landed Robinson,
[37:25] Speaker 9: Because you know, Ian, it's not easy to go from
[37:28] Speaker 9: a three technique to a one technique on one step.
[37:31] Speaker 9: Maybe you can do it with your rare athletic ability.
[37:33] Speaker 9: You don't see it very often. This guy's got pass
[37:36] Speaker 9: rush ability to him. You watch him against an elite
[37:39] Speaker 9: program like Notre Dame. He dominated the line of scrimmage.
[37:42] Speaker 9: He's almost unblockable at times. And oh, by the way,
[37:45] Speaker 9: he is absolutely relentless does it, stay blocked, gets off blocks,
[37:50] Speaker 9: and chases everything down no matter how far the ball
[37:53] Speaker 9: carrier is away. Landon Robinson is a guy that in
[37:56] Speaker 9: the right system he can be very, very successful. Then
[37:59] Speaker 9: let's go to Columbia, Missouri, University of Missouri and Josiah Trotter.
[38:03] Speaker 9: That's right trot and Jeremiah Trotter's youngest son, all SEC linebacker.
[38:09] Speaker 9: He's way more than just a blind dog and a
[38:12] Speaker 9: meathhouse he in. This guy knows how to defeat blocks,
[38:15] Speaker 9: he knows how to chase things down.
[38:17] Speaker 3: He's got and he can thump. I mean when he brings.
[38:20] Speaker 9: The acts, it's the family acts. He's ready to chop
[38:22] Speaker 9: it right. Made a lot of big plays at the
[38:24] Speaker 9: University of Missouri. I've talked to a general manager today.
[38:28] Speaker 9: I think he's going to go somewhere in the second round.
[38:30] Speaker 9: And it's a deep draft for inside middle linebackers, and
[38:33] Speaker 9: he's gonna be one of those names called agreed.
[38:37] Speaker 4: Okay, Baldy, this is like asking about jumbo shrimp. Give
[38:41] Speaker 4: us some of your smaller statued big men on campus.
[38:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, let's go.
[38:47] Speaker 9: Chip Trey anam from Toledo the Rockets, and this guy
[38:50] Speaker 9: bounced around college all right. He was at Arizona State.
[38:53] Speaker 9: He was at Ohio State for two years. But he's
[38:55] Speaker 9: five to eleven. He's two hundred and thirty pounds. He's a tank, Judy,
[39:00] Speaker 9: the tank. Protection off the charge good, but breakaway speed.
[39:04] Speaker 3: I mean he's five to eleven. He's two hundred and
[39:06] Speaker 3: thirty pounds.
[39:07] Speaker 9: He's got good speed and he makes people miss, and
[39:09] Speaker 9: he's got rare agility like you think about, you know,
[39:12] Speaker 9: Kyle man Ungai in the seventh round Nut of Ruggers
[39:14] Speaker 9: last year, Like this guy reminds me of that, but
[39:17] Speaker 9: even bigger.
[39:18] Speaker 3: So I think he's got a chance.
[39:19] Speaker 9: And then finally let's go to South Carolina, where Jalen
[39:22] Speaker 9: Kilgore has basically been a Swiss Army knife.
[39:25] Speaker 3: But he's got rare trade study.
[39:27] Speaker 9: I mean he's almost he's over six to one, he's
[39:29] Speaker 9: two hundred ten pounds right of four four forty. You
[39:32] Speaker 9: can see him covering wide receivers in the slot out wide,
[39:36] Speaker 9: you can see him in the deep path of the
[39:37] Speaker 9: field playing safety. I think he's got some position flexibility.
[39:42] Speaker 9: But man, you know, he's got eight interceptions over his
[39:45] Speaker 9: three years at South Carolina. He gets his hands on
[39:47] Speaker 9: a lot of footballs. You know, he's got a thirty
[39:49] Speaker 9: seven inch vertical leap on a six to one frame.
[39:53] Speaker 3: He gets in the passing lanes.
[39:54] Speaker 9: I think Jalen kilgre in a draft where we need
[39:57] Speaker 9: more safeties in this league to come in, he's got
[40:00] Speaker 9: to come in and compete right away.
[40:03] Speaker 7: The last kind of hybrid safety from South Carolina. Who
[40:06] Speaker 7: people wondered what position you played. I think worked out
[40:08] Speaker 7: pretty good for the champs. Baldy, thank you very much,
[40:11] Speaker 7: great stuff. As always, seven days away, I cannot wait.
[40:16] Speaker 7: That is Pittsburgh. If you look closely, you can't find me.
[40:20] Speaker 4: But you will.
[40:21] Speaker 7: In seven days I'll be sitting ready to hit send
[40:23] Speaker 7: on a trade.
[40:24] Speaker 5: Anyway, we'll be exactly
