[0:03] Speaker 1: They are feeling blue in New York. Coming up on
[0:06] Speaker 1: the NFL Report, we have the latest on Jackson Dart
[0:09] Speaker 1: and the news is not good. Meantime, is Sunday a
[0:15] Speaker 1: Super Bowl Samba preview? Why the Ravens and Cowboys romp
[0:20] Speaker 1: in Rio could have huge February consequences. Plus, are these
[0:26] Speaker 1: teams contending or are they pretending? Greg Rosenthal and I
[0:31] Speaker 1: will pretend to have answers next on the NFL Report.
[0:36] Speaker 1: We are presented by Nationwide. Hi there. Welcome to the
[0:38] Speaker 1: NFL Report. My name is Andrew Siciliano. Also, a Thursday
[0:42] Speaker 1: night football preview are the Packers on upset. We'll answer
[0:48] Speaker 1: that question. First, however, what is news today? To me.
[0:52] Speaker 1: Our headlines right out of the gate on a Wednesday
[0:54] Speaker 1: heading into week three, including the news out of New York,
[0:57] Speaker 1: which as mentioned, is not good. Worst fears realized. Jackson
[1:00] Speaker 1: Dart is out for the season. It's not just the MCL.
[1:04] Speaker 1: There's a PCL. There's meniscus damage in there. So Dart's
[1:08] Speaker 1: going to go on injured reserve. There is a chance, however.
[1:11] Speaker 1: John Harbaugh is telling you there's a chance that Dart
[1:14] Speaker 1: could come back if the Giants make the playoffs.
[1:18] Speaker 2: It should be without him.
[1:19] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a big loss for sure.
[1:21] Speaker 2: I mean, it's your starting quarterback.
[1:24] Speaker 3: It's a tough loss.
[1:28] Speaker 1: What's the timeline?
[1:32] Speaker 4: Regular season, at least, I would say.
[1:34] Speaker 1: He's out for the regular season, John?
[1:37] Speaker 5: What is the injury?
[1:39] Speaker 2: It's a knee.
[1:40] Speaker 1: It's a knee.
[1:42] Speaker 3: Knee injury.
[1:43] Speaker 6: When you say regular season, are you hopeful that maybe
[1:46] Speaker 6: he can come back for postseason?
[1:48] Speaker 1: Is that what you're saying?
[1:49] Speaker 2: I think I said it.
[1:50] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:51] Speaker 2: I said it.
[1:52] Speaker 1: Regular season. Okay, not regular season, John, for Brian Burns,
[1:57] Speaker 1: but it might be a couple of weeks. Brian Burns,
[1:59] Speaker 1: the linebacker. What a list of injuries for the Giants
[2:02] Speaker 1: on Monday night. It's a low ankle, not a high ankle.
[2:06] Speaker 1: So maybe that is the good news, but he wasn't
[2:08] Speaker 1: on the practice field today. His status very much up
[2:11] Speaker 1: in the air. For this week's game, the Giants and
[2:13] Speaker 1: the Titans, it is NFL Daily's Greg Rosenthal. Good to
[2:16] Speaker 1: see you, buddy. Playoffs. That's what John Albaugh said. Can
[2:21] Speaker 1: Jameis Winston get the Giants in the playoffs for a
[2:27] Speaker 1: Jackson Dart return?
[2:31] Speaker 7: Probably not, but I do not think this is a
[2:33] Speaker 7: lost season. If you look at their line play, offensive line,
[2:37] Speaker 7: defensive line, it's got to be better than Monday night.
[2:40] Speaker 7: But I think Jameis Winston has to be the guy
[2:42] Speaker 7: that is making all the quarterback moves for this team.
[2:46] Speaker 1: Because think about it, Andrew.
[2:48] Speaker 7: They gave him $ 12 million guaranteed about a month ago.
[2:53] Speaker 7: And so immediately he has one bad game and everyone
[2:55] Speaker 7: is saying, where can they get a quarterback? Who is
[2:57] Speaker 7: going to be better than him? Jimmy Garoppolo is not
[2:59] Speaker 7: saving this team. And he's not playing for a Greg
[3:02] Speaker 7: Roman offense anyways. Mitchell Trubisky's out there. Is that an upgrade?
[3:05] Speaker 7: It's really important for your front office and your coaching staff,
[3:08] Speaker 7: which is led by Jim Harbaugh right now, to evaluate
[3:12] Speaker 7: their positions correctly. And they said Jameis Winston is one
[3:16] Speaker 7: of the best, if not the best, backup quarterbacks in
[3:18] Speaker 7: the league. He is not that old. He is the
[3:21] Speaker 7: same age as Jared Goff is right now. He is
[3:23] Speaker 7: a year younger than Dak Prescott. He should still have
[3:25] Speaker 7: good quarterback years left. It just didn't look like it
[3:28] Speaker 7: on Monday night.
[3:29] Speaker 1: What are you going to go do? Trade for Shador
[3:31] Speaker 1: or trade for Dylan Gabriel or trade for Mac Jones?
[3:34] Speaker 1: That would be really expensive. Or trade for Joe Milton?
[3:37] Speaker 1: That's not going to happen. If you look at the schedule, Greg,
[3:40] Speaker 1: at least the next couple of weeks aren't that bad.
[3:43] Speaker 1: You get Tennessee and Arizona at home, and then you
[3:47] Speaker 1: go to Washington. Could be Mariota then. Who knows? Likely.
[3:50] Speaker 1: New Orleans is a pushover. Houston, obviously a road game.
[3:53] Speaker 1: That one's not easy. They could get out of the
[3:56] Speaker 1: gate here with a couple of wins. It's about long-term. Like,
[4:01] Speaker 1: I had a front-row seat for Jameis in Cleveland in 2024.
[4:04] Speaker 1: It is fun, man. But is it long-term sustainable? I
[4:09] Speaker 1: don't think it is.
[4:11] Speaker 7: No, it's not, which is why I think the best
[4:13] Speaker 7: they can hope for is to develop their young players.
[4:16] Speaker 7: That's what this season was always going to be about,
[4:18] Speaker 7: establishing what John Harbaugh wanted to do. You obviously wanted
[4:21] Speaker 7: to evaluate Jackson Dart and kicking the can down the road,
[4:24] Speaker 7: whether he's their franchise quarterback is important. A huge bummer,
[4:28] Speaker 7: and I thought you saw that in John Harbaugh's demeanor.
[4:31] Speaker 7: But I do think Jameis Winston, if you're going to
[4:33] Speaker 7: give him all that money, and he's guaranteed money not
[4:36] Speaker 7: just next year, but into 2028, they think he can
[4:40] Speaker 7: play quarterback. He should be better with a week to prepare.
[4:44] Speaker 7: He's not going to win you nine or ten games,
[4:46] Speaker 7: but I'm glad you brought up the schedule because it
[4:47] Speaker 7: is favorable overall on paper, and they can be competitive.
[4:51] Speaker 7: They can be a tough out if Harbaugh brings what
[4:54] Speaker 7: he wants to bring in terms of physicality.
[4:55] Speaker 1: Super serious John Harbaugh tosses the keys to Fox wacky
[4:59] Speaker 1: World Cup correspondent Jameis Winston. Rosenthal, stay there. We'll talk
[5:04] Speaker 1: TNF come up in a second. Let's get to Chicago because...
[5:07] Speaker 1: There's injury news there as well, and it sure looks
[5:09] Speaker 1: like Case Keenum is going to be the Bears quarterback
[5:11] Speaker 1: Monday night. Caleb Williams not practicing with the hamstring. Tyson Bajan,
[5:15] Speaker 1: concussion protocol. So Case Keenum against the Eagles. It would
[5:19] Speaker 1: be the first time Ben Johnson, by the way, would
[5:22] Speaker 1: ever call plays for somebody other than a QB1.
[5:26] Speaker 6: We're fortunate here. We've got three guys that can play
[5:30] Speaker 6: ball in this league, that have won games in this league.
[5:33] Speaker 6: Ryan's constructed the room in a way that We feel
[5:35] Speaker 6: really good about whoever ends up playing for us, and
[5:38] Speaker 6: that showed in the preseason. It shows up in practice
[5:42] Speaker 6: every single day, and so we're at a point right now,
[5:45] Speaker 6: not sure who the starter is going to be on
[5:46] Speaker 6: Sunday or Monday night. We'll let this thing play out,
[5:50] Speaker 6: and we'll go from there. But here's what we know.
[5:53] Speaker 6: We know Case is the one that's practicing today, so we'll.
[5:56] Speaker 1: Figure it out as we go. Our guys will rally around.
[5:59] Speaker 6: These guys are all capable, and they know that.
[6:02] Speaker 1: They've seen them.
[6:03] Speaker 6: In action here over the last year and a half.
[6:05] Speaker 6: And so we feel really good about that situation.
[6:09] Speaker 1: You remember once led a team to an NFC championship game. Granted,
[6:12] Speaker 1: he is now 38 years old. We don't know Jaden Daniels'
[6:15] Speaker 1: deal yet in Washington. Dan Quinn said today that the
[6:18] Speaker 1: quarterback saw a specialist Wednesday for another opinion on his
[6:22] Speaker 1: dislocated left elbow. Right now, no timetable for Daniels' return.
[6:26] Speaker 1: All we do know is, as mentioned, Mariota starting this
[6:29] Speaker 1: week against the Seahawks. And speaking of them, maybe, maybe
[6:36] Speaker 1: Sam Darnold? He was back on the practice field, didn't
[6:39] Speaker 1: play last week. It is a glute injury, not a hip.
[6:42] Speaker 1: You saw it in the opener week one. McDonald says
[6:45] Speaker 1: they're going to ramp up Darnold. He's not saying no yet.
[6:48] Speaker 1: If not, it'll be Drew Locke in that game against
[6:52] Speaker 1: the Commanders. Good quarterback news in Cincinnati. Joe Burrow is
[6:57] Speaker 1: a full participant. He is not on the injury report
[7:00] Speaker 1: today because evidently his back is just fine after he
[7:03] Speaker 1: got some help in Houston. He went to a chiropractor
[7:06] Speaker 1: in Houston. The name of that chiropractor, Will Anderson. Check
[7:10] Speaker 1: this out. It's all Joe Burrow needed. Will Anderson jumping
[7:15] Speaker 1: on his back. Good news out of Vegas.
[7:17] Speaker 6: Brock Bowers expected to make his season debut.
[7:41] Speaker 1: He missed weeks one and two. He had a little
[7:43] Speaker 1: knee surgery. The Raiders are playing the Saints. He was,
[7:46] Speaker 1: Bowers was, not Ian, that would be news. Bowers was
[7:49] Speaker 1: back on the field today. Did you know, oh, we'll
[7:55] Speaker 1: get to Alex Pierce. Alex Pierce is going on injured reserve.
[7:58] Speaker 1: It is a heel injury. No real timetable, but it's
[8:01] Speaker 1: going to be a minimum of four weeks. You saw
[8:03] Speaker 1: him limping off the field on Sunday night. They had hope.
[8:06] Speaker 1: The Colts had hope to keep him off injured reserve.
[8:08] Speaker 1: That is not going to happen. As I was saying,
[8:14] Speaker 1: did you know there's going to be a game in
[8:17] Speaker 1: Brazil on Sunday? Really? There's a game in Brazil? It's
[8:20] Speaker 1: in the 4 o'clock window. It's the Ravens and the
[8:22] Speaker 1: Cowboys at Estadio Maracanã. It is technically a Cowboys home game.
[8:28] Speaker 1: Ravens are the road team.
[8:32] Speaker 8: Just to see the NFL growth, you know, the international
[8:36] Speaker 8: part of things is great. You know, I'm excited. But
[8:39] Speaker 8: at the end of the day, it's a business trip
[8:40] Speaker 8: for us. You know, it's not to go have fun,
[8:43] Speaker 8: to sightsee or anything like that. Probably after the season,
[8:46] Speaker 8: that's a long way from now. But right now it's
[8:48] Speaker 8: a business trip.
[8:50] Speaker 4: How do you feel about seeing all these number eights,
[8:52] Speaker 4: not just from Brazil, but all South America?
[8:55] Speaker 8: Man, that's going to be fantastic. It's great for me.
[8:59] Speaker 8: I've never been to Brazil. Like I know I said
[9:01] Speaker 8: this before, I've never been to Brazil. but not just me,
[9:04] Speaker 8: you know, just to see Flock Nation. I heard we
[9:05] Speaker 8: got a huge fan base in Brazil, so just to
[9:08] Speaker 8: see them there, it's going to be amazing.
[9:10] Speaker 1: If you were wondering about travel plans, both teams are
[9:13] Speaker 1: leaving Thursday night, all right? They're both leaving at the
[9:15] Speaker 1: same time.
[9:16] Speaker 3: Cool.
[9:17] Speaker 1: Zay Flowers, is he going to be on the plane?
[9:18] Speaker 1: That is a question. He did not practice Wednesday with
[9:20] Speaker 1: a hamstring injury, has not played since halftime of the
[9:23] Speaker 1: week one win in Indianapolis, in which he blew up.
[9:26] Speaker 1: He had like a buck 50. He got in the
[9:28] Speaker 1: end zone, but he has not been seen yet. on
[9:31] Speaker 1: the field since then. When are the Falcons leaving for
[9:34] Speaker 1: Green Bay, you ask? Well, they leave tonight because the
[9:37] Speaker 1: game is tomorrow. Atlanta is 0-2. Drake London probably not
[9:42] Speaker 1: going to be yelling at fans because he has his
[9:44] Speaker 1: quarterback back. At least the next man up at quarterback.
[9:48] Speaker 1: The former top 10 pick at quarterback. That is Michael
[9:51] Speaker 1: Penix back. Hi there, Rosenthal, again for the first time
[9:54] Speaker 1: since the knee injury, the ACL, another one in November
[9:57] Speaker 1: of last year. It can't get worse, right? It can
[9:59] Speaker 1: only get worse. get better. What do you think, Michael Penix,
[10:02] Speaker 1: tomorrow night?
[10:03] Speaker 7: I think he gives them a chance. Cooper Rush had
[10:07] Speaker 7: a non-operational offense. If you look at all the numbers,
[10:09] Speaker 7: they were the worst offense passing attack in the entire league.
[10:12] Speaker 1: It was not that long ago, Andrew.
[10:15] Speaker 7: That Michael Penix came in for four games at the
[10:17] Speaker 7: end of his rookie season and showed a lot of
[10:19] Speaker 7: promising traits. He's got an arm that you like, a
[10:22] Speaker 7: willingness to go down the field. He can test the sidelines.
[10:25] Speaker 7: My question is, how well does he fit in a
[10:28] Speaker 7: Kevin Stefanski offense, who not that long ago, 2023, could
[10:33] Speaker 7: take just about any quarterback and make him productive on
[10:36] Speaker 7: that Browns team. The challenge will be to do it
[10:38] Speaker 7: with Penix, who isn't always the quickest Twitch athlete. He
[10:41] Speaker 7: doesn't get rid of the ball as quickly as Stefanski
[10:44] Speaker 7: normally does. likes, but I think it's going to be
[10:47] Speaker 7: an upgrade. There was a sequence in last week's game
[10:49] Speaker 7: where Kyle Pitts, Bajon Robinson and Drake London got the
[10:52] Speaker 7: ball and back to back to back plays.
[10:54] Speaker 1: And you thought this can work.
[10:56] Speaker 7: I feel like the Falcon season opener is really on
[10:59] Speaker 7: Thursday night and I'm much more interested in watching it
[11:02] Speaker 7: with Pennix at quarterback than I was with Cooper Rush
[11:05] Speaker 7: the last time.
[11:06] Speaker 1: And it's now with Tommy Reese calling plays there for
[11:08] Speaker 1: Kevin Stefanski brought him with him from Cleveland where Stefanski,
[11:12] Speaker 1: by the way, if you're keeping track at home and
[11:14] Speaker 1: I know you are, 5-0 in his career on three
[11:18] Speaker 1: days rest. In other words, like 5-0 going into Thursdays here.
[11:21] Speaker 1: Are you putting the Packers on upset alert?
[11:25] Speaker 2: I am.
[11:25] Speaker 7: I'm surprised they are such heavy favorites over any team
[11:29] Speaker 7: right now. If you watch the Falcons defense, they've given
[11:32] Speaker 7: offenses some problems. And the Packers offense is all problems
[11:36] Speaker 7: right now. If you looked around at the pressure rate,
[11:39] Speaker 7: they are second to worst in the NFL. If you
[11:42] Speaker 7: look at the running success rate, EPA per play, and
[11:45] Speaker 7: if you just have eyeballs, they are right there with
[11:47] Speaker 7: the worst teams in the NFL. So they are asking
[11:50] Speaker 7: Jordan Love and his wide receivers to win all by themselves.
[11:53] Speaker 7: And they can do it. But I actually think Atlanta's
[11:56] Speaker 7: defense has played better than the final scores would indicate.
[12:00] Speaker 7: And I feel like any NFL defense is going to
[12:02] Speaker 7: be a challenge for Green Bay right now. So I
[12:04] Speaker 7: just don't see this team as a heavy favorite against anyone.
[12:07] Speaker 7: Pennix hopefully gives the Falcons a little bit of juice,
[12:10] Speaker 7: even though... Andrew, as you pointed out in our newsroom,
[12:14] Speaker 7: and it's fun to hang out with you during the day,
[12:16] Speaker 7: the Packers don't lose season openers at home.
[12:19] Speaker 1: I get it. No, and you know what? That is
[12:21] Speaker 1: a great tease, Rosenthal. That's going to be my one
[12:23] Speaker 1: more thing at the end of the show. We'll tell
[12:25] Speaker 1: you it has been a while, like a long, long
[12:27] Speaker 1: time since that happened. Coming up next, however, are Dak
[12:33] Speaker 1: Prescott and the Cowboys a contender or... a pretender. For
[12:38] Speaker 1: that matter, what about the Texans, the Raiders? I don't know.
[12:41] Speaker 1: We'll go down a long list. Don't go anywhere. It's
[12:43] Speaker 1: the NFL Report on a Wednesday. You're watching the NFL Report.
[12:49] Speaker 1: When the schedule came out in May, we looked at
[12:53] Speaker 1: week three and went, hmm, interesting. Like, what are these teams?
[12:59] Speaker 1: After two weeks, I think for a lot of these teams,
[13:02] Speaker 1: we still don't know. As we look at this week
[13:05] Speaker 1: three schedule, Bengals-Steelers, for example. Are the Bengals really that good?
[13:09] Speaker 1: Are the Steelers that bad? Who are the Broncos? The
[13:12] Speaker 1: team that got pantsed on Monday night of the opener?
[13:16] Speaker 1: Or the team that beat a very good Jaguars team
[13:20] Speaker 1: a week ago? This is your week three schedule as
[13:23] Speaker 1: we try to figure things out. Like, take this game,
[13:26] Speaker 1: for example. Did anyone think a Week 3 Chargers-Bills game
[13:31] Speaker 1: would have one of these teams at 0-2? Probably not.
[13:34] Speaker 1: Josh Allen today said all the things he's supposed to say.
[13:38] Speaker 1: He said all the nice things about the Chargers.
[13:43] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think that they've got some real talent. Obviously,
[13:47] Speaker 3: Khalil Mack's one of the best pass rushers in the
[13:50] Speaker 3: last 20.
[13:51] Speaker 1: Or so years.
[13:53] Speaker 3: And I think he's still plays at a very high level.
[13:56] Speaker 3: I think that their DBs are savvy. You know, obviously
[14:01] Speaker 3: Derwin James is one of the better safeties in the
[14:03] Speaker 3: league and he's not afraid to come down and lay
[14:06] Speaker 3: the boom. I know that all too well going back
[14:08] Speaker 3: to my first start. So yeah, they throw a lot
[14:11] Speaker 3: of different looks at you. You got to be ready
[14:13] Speaker 3: for a lot of different things and we got to
[14:16] Speaker 3: play our best football, put our best foot forward to
[14:19] Speaker 3: try to win the game on Sunday.
[14:21] Speaker 1: So Bill's Chargers is one of nine early games, one
[14:24] Speaker 1: of nine 1 o'clock Eastern games. So too Jets-Lions. Detroit
[14:28] Speaker 1: is 1-1, well-rested, but the defense was awful in Buffalo.
[14:33] Speaker 1: The Jets are 1-1, but they should be 2-0. Somebody
[14:37] Speaker 1: asked Dan Campbell today if facing Aaron Glenn, his old D.C.,
[14:41] Speaker 1: constitutes a trap game.
[14:45] Speaker 2: Our players know exactly what's coming in here because the
[14:47] Speaker 2: defensive coordinator was here for five years and turn on
[14:51] Speaker 2: the tape. I mean, and look what just happened, uh,
[14:53] Speaker 2: last Thursday night. So this, this is not going to
[14:56] Speaker 2: be a trap game. You know, this will be, this
[14:58] Speaker 2: is going to be a knockout, uh, 60 minute brawl.
[15:02] Speaker 2: It's going to go down. Uh, and, and we got
[15:05] Speaker 2: to be on point. We got our hands full, you know,
[15:08] Speaker 2: I mean, there's an argument they should be two and
[15:09] Speaker 2: O right now. You know, that thing went down to
[15:11] Speaker 2: the wire there last week. Um, and the elements, and
[15:15] Speaker 2: so we have a good idea of what's coming in
[15:17] Speaker 2: here and what we need to be ready for.
[15:19] Speaker 1: You got the Browns and the Panthers as well in Cleveland,
[15:24] Speaker 1: also two one-and-one teams are trying to figure out who
[15:27] Speaker 1: exactly what they are. The Browns are coming back home
[15:31] Speaker 1: fresh off a win over the Buccaneers, and the last
[15:33] Speaker 1: time that Deshaun Watson played in front of the home fans,
[15:35] Speaker 1: it was the preseason, and he was booed and booed loudly.
[15:41] Speaker 5: I mean, it always means good for someone to be
[15:42] Speaker 5: able to support me, to support anybody as a human.
[15:46] Speaker 5: You know, hearing positive things, it builds confidence, it builds courage,
[15:50] Speaker 5: it builds that team chemistry. It just makes a person
[15:54] Speaker 5: feel good. So, you know, when you get that from
[15:58] Speaker 5: the head man and the guy that's leading this organization,
[16:01] Speaker 5: this team, that means a lot. I mean, the biggest thing, like,
[16:04] Speaker 5: I don't never try to go to war with the fans, so.
[16:06] Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing is just, you know, ready
[16:09] Speaker 5: for support, ready to feel their energy, ready to get
[16:11] Speaker 5: this big dub for the city of Cleveland and, you know,
[16:14] Speaker 5: continue this great feeling that we have this week. So
[16:17] Speaker 5: that's my motto is just keep pushing forward, find ways
[16:20] Speaker 5: to win on Sunday to, you know, take advantage of
[16:23] Speaker 5: the opposing team.
[16:24] Speaker 1: And get a W. Also in the early window, the Chiefs,
[16:28] Speaker 1: they are 2-0. Likely, can we be honest, be 3-0
[16:31] Speaker 1: come Sunday night. They go to Miami to play the
[16:33] Speaker 1: Windless Dolphins tonight. Is it too early in the season
[16:36] Speaker 1: to look at the schedule and just start checking off wins,
[16:40] Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes?
[16:43] Speaker 4: I think more than even who we're playing, it's just
[16:45] Speaker 4: staying hungry. In this league, it's week to week. One
[16:49] Speaker 4: week they're patting you on your back and one week
[16:50] Speaker 4: they're telling you you're terrible. I think all offseason we
[16:53] Speaker 4: heard about how bad we were and guys were super
[16:55] Speaker 4: hungry and came in with that mentality. I think that's
[16:58] Speaker 4: why we've had the success that we've had these first
[17:00] Speaker 4: two weeks. It's like, how can you Keep that hunger.
[17:03] Speaker 4: Now everybody's saying we're amazing and that we're great. We've
[17:07] Speaker 4: got to keep the hunger that we had this entire offseason.
[17:09] Speaker 4: That's what we're preaching. We're nowhere near where we want
[17:12] Speaker 4: to be yet. We're still so early in the season.
[17:15] Speaker 4: There's still so much for us to learn from and
[17:17] Speaker 4: so much for us to get better at. We have
[17:19] Speaker 4: to have that mentality week in and week out if
[17:21] Speaker 4: we want to go out there and have success.
[17:24] Speaker 1: Here we go. Let's look at the undefeated teams. Cool
[17:27] Speaker 1: little bingo card here. We've got the Raiders, the Vikings,
[17:29] Speaker 1: the Seahawks, the Eagles. The Bengals, the Bills, the Chiefs,
[17:34] Speaker 1: and the 49ers. We're going to play a little game.
[17:36] Speaker 1: I don't know if it's actually a game. We'll just
[17:39] Speaker 1: ask the question. Bring Greg Rosenthal back from NFL Daily.
[17:42] Speaker 1: Who is a contender? Who is a pretender from that list? Rosenthal,
[17:47] Speaker 1: beginning with the upstart fighting Clint Kubiak. The Raiders are 2-0.
[17:52] Speaker 1: They visit your Saints on Sunday. Pretender? Contender? What do
[17:57] Speaker 1: we think?
[17:58] Speaker 7: I mean, they might be my Raiders by the end
[18:00] Speaker 7: of the year. I'm loving watching this team. I got
[18:02] Speaker 7: to go contender when it comes to the Raiders that
[18:05] Speaker 7: they can stay in the mix. And I'd say that
[18:09] Speaker 7: all the Raiders fans in your life have probably come
[18:11] Speaker 7: out of the woodwork, but they never shut up in
[18:12] Speaker 7: the first place.
[18:13] Speaker 1: They're just right.
[18:13] Speaker 7: Finally, look at this deep ball to Trey Tucker. This
[18:16] Speaker 7: is a real dude in terms of Trey Tucker. They're
[18:18] Speaker 7: two and oh, without Brock Bowers, their offensive line. is
[18:23] Speaker 7: first in the entire NFL in pass block win rate.
[18:26] Speaker 7: Ashton Gentry, Mike Washington in the backfield, you can tell
[18:28] Speaker 7: they're more cohesive. Clint Kubiak has really made this offense respectable,
[18:33] Speaker 7: but I don't think enough people have known what they've
[18:36] Speaker 7: done on the defensive side.
[18:38] Speaker 1: Right now, eighth.
[18:39] Speaker 7: Inefficiency overall first in pass rush pressure rate, and they're
[18:44] Speaker 7: getting after teams on defense. And I think they could
[18:47] Speaker 7: give the saints front a lot of problems. And when
[18:49] Speaker 7: I say contender, I don't think they're going to win
[18:50] Speaker 7: the super bowl, Andrew, but if you told me, Like
[18:54] Speaker 7: they're not in the in the hunt graphic and we 18.
[18:58] Speaker 1: I'd be surprised.
[18:59] Speaker 7: I think they're going to give the Raiders fans a
[19:01] Speaker 7: season of relevance that we have not seen in a
[19:03] Speaker 7: long time.
[19:04] Speaker 1: I love it is week three and we're already envisioning
[19:07] Speaker 1: that December.
[19:08] Speaker 3: Oh, look.
[19:08] Speaker 4: Oh, look.
[19:09] Speaker 1: They're on the right side of the screen in the hunt.
[19:11] Speaker 1: We're look at that kind of conversation.
[19:13] Speaker 3: All right.
[19:13] Speaker 1: The Vikings are two and they're going to go to Tampa.
[19:15] Speaker 1: I was in Tampa last week and saw the Buccaneers. Look,
[19:18] Speaker 1: they have a lot of good pieces here. But if
[19:20] Speaker 1: you go back to last year, they have lost nine
[19:23] Speaker 1: of 11 games. So saying the Vikings are getting out
[19:26] Speaker 1: of there at 3-0 is not that much of a
[19:28] Speaker 1: leap of faith. Are they a contender or a pretender
[19:32] Speaker 1: in Minnesota?
[19:32] Speaker 7: Minnesota.
[19:34] Speaker 1: They are a contender.
[19:35] Speaker 7: I had them in the playoffs before the year, so
[19:37] Speaker 7: it's not confirmation bias, but this division doesn't look as good.
[19:40] Speaker 7: And this defense, it's just different than anyone else. Like
[19:43] Speaker 7: no one is doing it like Brian Flores. He's close
[19:46] Speaker 7: to 80% in terms of his blitz percentage. No one
[19:49] Speaker 7: else is even above Flores. I have rarely seen a
[19:53] Speaker 7: group as in touch with each other and able to
[19:56] Speaker 7: shape shift on a weekly basis as this group. And
[19:58] Speaker 7: it's not superstars. It's the guys that have been together
[20:01] Speaker 7: for a long time. Josh Metellus, Blake Cashman, Andrew Van Ginkle,
[20:06] Speaker 7: Harrison Smith coming out of retirement. They are so cohesive.
[20:10] Speaker 7: And then on offense, they're talented. They have not gotten
[20:12] Speaker 7: good quarterback play so far. We get Kyler Murray back.
[20:15] Speaker 7: That's the X factor where they can go from, yeah,
[20:18] Speaker 7: we can win a division or we can really contend
[20:22] Speaker 7: if Kyler Murray gives them solid football. We haven't seen
[20:26] Speaker 7: it yet, but either way, I think they are a
[20:27] Speaker 7: strong pick to win this division.
[20:30] Speaker 1: Murray comes back this week. Other guys on the defense
[20:32] Speaker 1: like Roy Lopez or Jalen Redman. I mean, they're just
[20:35] Speaker 1: plugging anyone in there, and Brian Flores has them getting
[20:38] Speaker 1: the quarterback. All right. I know the Cowboys are not 2-0.
[20:41] Speaker 1: We showed the list there on the screen of all
[20:43] Speaker 1: the 2-0 teams, but even on the digital side, we're
[20:45] Speaker 1: contractually obligated to ask, are the Cowboys a contender or pretender?
[20:51] Speaker 1: I mean, there is a world in which, at least preseason,
[20:54] Speaker 1: this Brazil game looked like a Super Bowl preview. Mm-hmm.
[20:59] Speaker 7: I think there's going to be a lot of points
[21:00] Speaker 7: in this game, but that's why I have Pretender for
[21:02] Speaker 7: the Cowboys because until they show me that the defense
[21:05] Speaker 7: is different, they just feel like a Cowboys team that
[21:09] Speaker 7: will be in the mix, could even be the seventh
[21:13] Speaker 7: wildcard team, but not contending like they want to because
[21:16] Speaker 7: they're 30th right now in EPA per play on defense.
[21:20] Speaker 1: There's a lot of miscommunication.
[21:21] Speaker 7: And more than anything, I know Cowboys fans hate to
[21:24] Speaker 7: bring it back to the Michael Parsons trade. They haven't
[21:26] Speaker 7: replaced the pass rush. And I don't see a group
[21:29] Speaker 7: that's tough enough up front. I don't see Rashawn Gary
[21:32] Speaker 7: or their first round pick Malachi Lawrence really getting after
[21:35] Speaker 7: the quarterback or getting off the.
[21:36] Speaker 1: Ball quickly enough.
[21:37] Speaker 7: So I think even though it's week three and it's Rio,
[21:41] Speaker 7: it's a really great litmus test against a very good
[21:44] Speaker 7: Ravens defense. I expect them to give up a lot
[21:47] Speaker 7: of points. And to me, that's more of the same
[21:49] Speaker 7: and that's pretend.
[21:50] Speaker 1: And if they give up a lot of points, they
[21:52] Speaker 1: could blame it on Rio. That is a bad 80s callback.
[21:55] Speaker 1: Thank you, Greg Rosenthal. The star... of the NFL Daily Podcast.
[22:00] Speaker 1: Coming up next, are the Cowboys America's team or South
[22:03] Speaker 1: America's team? We'll ask that man. Lamar Jackson, straight ahead,
[22:08] Speaker 1: don't go anywhere. You're watching the NFL Report. Hey, can

[22:29] Speaker 1: Flash fast. Terms and conditions do apply. Let's get in
[22:35] Speaker 1: some quick hits, shall we? And let's begin here in
[22:39] Speaker 1: our backyard in Los Angeles. Puka Nakua is not practicing today. Remember,
[22:43] Speaker 1: he didn't play on Monday. Sean McVay says it isn't
[22:46] Speaker 1: a hernia. It's a groin injury. And they are going
[22:49] Speaker 1: to be super careful with Puka Nakua. So does he
[22:53] Speaker 1: play Sunday night in Denver right now? Don't know. Not practicing.
[22:57] Speaker 1: Does Joey Porter Jr. play this week against the Bengals?
[23:01] Speaker 1: Don't know. He was on the practice field, but remember
[23:04] Speaker 1: he has a bad back. He, in his eyes, has
[23:07] Speaker 1: a bad contract. And we are no closer to knowing
[23:10] Speaker 1: whether or not Porter is going to make his Steelers debut.
[23:14] Speaker 1: We can tell you that Jonathan Brooks is not going
[23:15] Speaker 1: to play this week. The Panthers running back is going
[23:18] Speaker 1: on injured reserve, just devastating after the knee injury. Now
[23:21] Speaker 1: it's a groin injury, knee surgery, and we are looking
[23:24] Speaker 1: at six to eight weeks out of action, according to
[23:27] Speaker 1: Panthers head coach Dave Kanellis. Did I mention there's a
[23:32] Speaker 1: game in Brazil this week? Yes, there is. It's in
[23:35] Speaker 1: the four o'clock window. And then both teams play again
[23:37] Speaker 1: without a bye next Sunday at one o'clock locally. It's
[23:41] Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson. It's Dak Prescott. And it's America's team going
[23:46] Speaker 1: to South America? Do you expect them to have a
[23:50] Speaker 1: large contingency? You mentioned Ravens flocked in there. They were
[23:53] Speaker 1: once known as America's team.
[23:55] Speaker 8: Yeah, but that's this America. That's Brazil. So we'll see.
[23:59] Speaker 8: We'll see.
[24:03] Speaker 1: Because they could, I guess, still be America's team even
[24:05] Speaker 1: in South America. I don't know. All right. I mentioned
[24:08] Speaker 1: Rosenthal mentioned. He almost stole the note about Tamar. The
[24:13] Speaker 1: Packers have won 13 consecutive home openers. They have not
[24:18] Speaker 1: dropped their first game in a season at Lambeau Field
[24:21] Speaker 1: since Week 1, 2012. Alex Smith was the quarterback for
[24:26] Speaker 1: the 49ers. Jim Harbaugh coached that day for the 49ers.
[24:31] Speaker 1: And Aaron Rodgers was the Packers coach. That's how we
[24:34] Speaker 1: open up Week 3 tomorrow. We will see you before
[24:37] Speaker 1: that one then. I'm Andrew Siciliano. Thanks for watching the
[24:40] Speaker 1: NFL Report. So long, everybody.
