David walked away from a comfortable expat career across China and Singapore to build Deemples, a golf social app that connects golfers to play together. What started as a personal frustration became a platform now serving over 150,000 users across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. In this episode of From Zero to CEO, we break down how he validated the idea before quitting, built traction while still employed, survived COVID, pivoted into monetisation, and scaled in a slow, traditional industry with no direct competitors to copy from. If you’re thinking of turning a hobby into a business, this is a real look at what it takes: patience, calculated risk, and the willingness to commit fully when there’s no guarantee it will work. If you drink, don't drive.
