[0:00] Speaker 1: Of the law and Order franchises, SVU is considered especially watchable.
[0:04] Speaker 2: We are the amateur detectives who kind of investigate the
[0:07] Speaker 2: vicious felonies.
[0:07] Speaker 3: These episodes are based on These are our stories.
[0:10] Speaker 4: Done done.
[0:28] Speaker 2: Yay, that's messed up. An SVU podcast, another episode coming
[0:33] Speaker 2: at you. I'm Liza Traeger and.
[0:35] Speaker 1: I'm Carol Klank and we hit up classic episodes of SVU,
[0:41] Speaker 1: all episodes of view, not just classic, some actually ones.
[0:44] Speaker 1: Uh wait, what's the one that's the worst that we did?
[0:47] Speaker 1: Some that you should never watch again.
[0:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, there was one that we were like, this is
[0:50] Speaker 2: the worst ever. But I think the person that was
[0:54] Speaker 2: with us thought the same thing that we interviewed for it.
[0:57] Speaker 3: Maybe not, Maybe I'm making something up. No, you're right.
[1:01] Speaker 3: We did do one recently, but it's raided.
[1:03] Speaker 1: It's like raided bad on b Well, that's the Gamer one,
[1:07] Speaker 1: the Gamer one.
[1:08] Speaker 3: Obviously, I would never talk about the game. No badly.
[1:11] Speaker 2: I'm talking about the one where it's like her best
[1:14] Speaker 2: friend is raping her with her fingers and dominates.
[1:17] Speaker 3: I'm thinking it was Eden.
[1:18] Speaker 1: It was when we interviewed eating Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay.
[1:21] Speaker 3: But I love talking about you all.
[1:24] Speaker 1: SVU the good, the bad, the ugly, the classic, the
[1:27] Speaker 1: very unclassic, and then we talk about the true crimes and.
[1:30] Speaker 3: We interview a guest.
[1:32] Speaker 1: And but first up top, we chat about whatever and
[1:36] Speaker 1: everything last time we last week.
[1:39] Speaker 3: I care.
[1:39] Speaker 2: We're not talking about anything besides Taylor and Travis. And
[1:42] Speaker 2: it's crazy, crazy that you would keep Okay.
[1:44] Speaker 3: Everybody is.
[1:46] Speaker 1: I'm like, I made a list of stuff to talk
[1:48] Speaker 1: about in the intro. JK, it's just gonna be Taylor
[1:50] Speaker 1: and Travis.
[1:51] Speaker 3: We don't have to do.
[1:51] Speaker 1: A long time. I mean, I think engagement shoots and
[1:54] Speaker 1: stuff are a corny, but but Taylor is corny, right, Yeah, corny.
[2:00] Speaker 3: I thought it was. I mean I was I couldn't believe.
[2:02] Speaker 2: I just couldn't believe my eyes, to be honest, because
[2:05] Speaker 2: I never thought in a millionaires we would get this
[2:07] Speaker 2: kind of closeness.
[2:08] Speaker 3: She's like so private. Yeah.
[2:11] Speaker 1: I was like, for some reason, I felt it coming.
[2:15] Speaker 1: I don't know why. I was like, I feel like, well, yeah,
[2:18] Speaker 1: an American Eagle collab dropped the next day, so yeah,
[2:21] Speaker 1: you know you needed to cover that up. Yeah, perfect timing.
[2:24] Speaker 1: I think it was just like seeing them on that
[2:26] Speaker 1: podcast together.
[2:27] Speaker 2: But he did it after the podcast, I'll tell you
[2:30] Speaker 2: everything because Ed Kelsey, the father, he did a news radio,
[2:32] Speaker 2: like a Cleveland news radio that day, like two hour
[2:36] Speaker 2: We're like, we'll never know anything, and then two hours
[2:39] Speaker 2: later the dad spilled everything. So while they were podcasting,
[2:43] Speaker 2: people were setting up the florals in his garden. That's
[2:46] Speaker 2: his garden, and they were going to go to dinner,
[2:49] Speaker 2: so they dressed up for dinner. And then he's like, well,
[2:51] Speaker 2: why don't we just have one glass of wine in
[2:54] Speaker 2: the yard.
[2:54] Speaker 3: We have time, And then Ed.
[2:56] Speaker 2: Kelsey said that the flower the floral people had to
[2:59] Speaker 2: jump in bush because it was like down to the wires.
[3:02] Speaker 2: So they were in the bushes while all this happened.
[3:04] Speaker 2: They were hiding. And yeah, she obviously knew something was
[3:08] Speaker 2: up all those flowers and so romantic.
[3:11] Speaker 3: I just like love it. I love it.
[3:13] Speaker 1: That's amazing that you got the scoop from the dad. Wow,
[3:18] Speaker 1: I love that. It's like, once she does my podcast,
[3:21] Speaker 1: I'm gonna.
[3:21] Speaker 2: Pop the question now because people have been posting you
[3:24] Speaker 2: can see her headphone in dent in her hair in
[3:27] Speaker 2: the pictures.
[3:30] Speaker 1: That's something that only swifties would notice. I'm pretending to notice,
[3:35] Speaker 1: Like that app the memes said that, and I was like, yeah,
[3:38] Speaker 1: for sure, I see it, but I don't really see it.
[3:41] Speaker 1: I posted it because I don't even follow Taylor, but
[3:44] Speaker 1: it actually, like, you know, I like Taylor was shocked,
[3:46] Speaker 1: but I was shocked when I saw it. And when
[3:49] Speaker 1: I also saw her post, I was like, this happened
[3:50] Speaker 1: two hours ago? How did it take me so long
[3:52] Speaker 1: to see?
[3:52] Speaker 4: Like?
[3:53] Speaker 1: I got evenually two hours I got a text from
[3:55] Speaker 1: my friend who works for Delta, and I couldn't believe
[4:01] Speaker 1: she broke them, And then the text started coming in,
[4:03] Speaker 1: So I wonder when I actually found out, because then
[4:05] Speaker 1: I started getting tons of texts and DM so well.
[4:07] Speaker 1: And I posted on my story going I'm not particularly
[4:10] Speaker 1: invested in this, but this is a great caption, and
[4:13] Speaker 1: people were like, you better not tell Lisa you're not invested.
[4:15] Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm not. You think I'm not gonna.
[4:17] Speaker 1: Watch the wedding, But that's funny you like the caption
[4:20] Speaker 1: that much that you would repost.
[4:21] Speaker 3: I'm actually I thought that was cute. I thought it
[4:23] Speaker 3: was cute.
[4:24] Speaker 1: I liked it better than like, I liked it better
[4:27] Speaker 1: than like, I'm oh my god. Today my best friend
[4:29] Speaker 1: asked me to marry him, Like, I mean, I thought
[4:31] Speaker 1: it was like a succinct one emoji, funny, it's totally
[4:35] Speaker 1: who they are. Yeah, are totally an English teacher and
[4:38] Speaker 1: a gym teacher. I thought that was great. Yeah, now
[4:40] Speaker 1: it's getting now it already within a day. I'm like,
[4:42] Speaker 1: maybe I hate it now because it's getting like memed
[4:44] Speaker 1: to shit by other people. But as their announcement, I
[4:46] Speaker 1: thought it was cute and funny.
[4:48] Speaker 3: You're right, it's cute succint quick.
[4:49] Speaker 2: Actually, well, I.
[4:52] Speaker 1: I never thought I was gonna find this love blah
[4:55] Speaker 1: blah blah write it in a song, bitch like this
[4:57] Speaker 1: is an Instagram caption.
[4:58] Speaker 3: She did it exactly right.
[4:59] Speaker 2: No, So I'm in like full blown dexter Mania right now.
[5:03] Speaker 2: I can't think about anything. I'm rewatching the original in
[5:07] Speaker 2: the past week. I'm on season four, so you know
[5:09] Speaker 2: how my mental state is doing. I'm waking up season
[5:12] Speaker 2: one in a day, so putting it on, putting it
[5:14] Speaker 2: like I can't stop. I like, I can't believe it's
[5:17] Speaker 2: only today. I'm like I needed my new episode of Resurrection,
[5:20] Speaker 2: but but I'm like waiting to rewatch that again. Anyways,
[5:23] Speaker 2: I literally just texted my sister two nights ago, being like,
[5:25] Speaker 2: I need your paramount password.
[5:27] Speaker 1: She's like, it's on Prime because my sister's saying me too.
[5:30] Speaker 1: Oh your sister's watching yeah super each Oh my god. Okay,
[5:34] Speaker 1: that's it's great. Yeah.
[5:35] Speaker 2: One of the servers of the Cellar, it's like, for
[5:37] Speaker 2: how popular it is, I really am not finding a
[5:40] Speaker 2: lot of people watching it. It's kind of like I'll
[5:42] Speaker 2: ask an audience in one person's clapping, I'm like, this
[5:44] Speaker 2: is actually a huge It's always number one on the
[5:47] Speaker 2: Prime like yeah, down thing like he's I mean, everyone
[5:51] Speaker 2: loves him. But anyways, the reason I brought it up
[5:54] Speaker 2: is because I watched that episode where he gets married
[5:56] Speaker 2: and his vowels were one sentence. So the dexter tailor
[6:02] Speaker 2: mind melt is happening to me. Yea and yeah one
[6:05] Speaker 2: sentence succinct. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah you like that. What
[6:09] Speaker 2: did you post?
[6:11] Speaker 3: I just I posted. Now what did you post when
[6:16] Speaker 3: you got engaged? Oh?
[6:19] Speaker 1: I posted a picture and I said we decided to
[6:21] Speaker 1: get the government involved, and that was it.
[6:23] Speaker 2: That's cute, okay, okay, quick, good, all right?
[6:26] Speaker 1: Because I didn't have a ring either, you know, so
[6:28] Speaker 1: it's like, you know, like I got. He gave me
[6:31] Speaker 1: this necklace that I love, and like, I you know,
[6:34] Speaker 1: I couldn't just be like a hand placed on a chest,
[6:38] Speaker 1: you know, strategically.
[6:40] Speaker 3: Did you like her ring? I did.
[6:42] Speaker 2: I like that It's obviously giant, but the setting is
[6:46] Speaker 2: like vintage bending, Like yeah, I felt like her delicate empty.
[6:50] Speaker 2: Yeah it's like I said, empty, but that's not what
[6:53] Speaker 2: I meant, but like, yeah, it's it makes it seem
[6:56] Speaker 2: not as ostentatious as it truly is.
[6:59] Speaker 1: It's it's like, as of this recording, it's not been
[7:03] Speaker 1: twenty four hours since they announced this. Now people are like,
[7:06] Speaker 1: I can't believe items. This is a plot to get
[7:08] Speaker 1: this is a plot to get more people to watch
[7:10] Speaker 1: the NFL. Or like people are like, but I definitely
[7:13] Speaker 1: think it was good timing to I mean definitely have
[7:18] Speaker 1: a friend that thinks it's like they're getting financially, like
[7:27] Speaker 1: really rewarded for what they are sharing, that it's not authentic,
[7:30] Speaker 1: and I was like, shut up, I think they want
[7:32] Speaker 1: to show us.
[7:33] Speaker 3: How do I think we need any more money?
[7:35] Speaker 2: She doesn't, and I do only but she you know,
[7:37] Speaker 2: she knows how to make money, sure, but she doesn't
[7:40] Speaker 2: need to like be giving, like she doesn't need to
[7:42] Speaker 2: traffic in her personal life now, not at all. I'm
[7:45] Speaker 2: disagreeing with the person.
[7:46] Speaker 1: This person literally release like a freaking her own trash compactor,
[7:53] Speaker 1: and people would buy it.
[7:54] Speaker 3: I don't know why that just came to my head.
[7:56] Speaker 1: But I will obviously, I will obviously read the Vogue
[8:03] Speaker 1: where she's featured.
[8:04] Speaker 2: I want what she's wearing. I don't think she would
[8:06] Speaker 2: give it to vote. I don't know what she'll do.
[8:07] Speaker 2: I wonder if we'll see him, like we better see
[8:09] Speaker 2: a wedding photo. This gives me hope, but I don't know.
[8:14] Speaker 2: But you know, So there's this billionaire Becca Bloom that
[8:16] Speaker 2: I follow on Instagram and she's getting married tomorrow.
[8:20] Speaker 3: Okay, we're not we'll record whatever. She's getting married.
[8:23] Speaker 2: Bonaire her dad okay, like a tech Chinese tech company
[8:27] Speaker 2: in ninety went public, came back whatever, like billionaires, billion billion, billions, like,
[8:32] Speaker 2: but she talks like she's just in a town, like
[8:35] Speaker 2: she's just like hey, and this is the van, like
[8:38] Speaker 2: but she is I mean private shopping events like bill
[8:43] Speaker 2: Like I can't.
[8:45] Speaker 1: Her life since Instagram is crazy, But she's been on
[8:49] Speaker 1: Instagram for under nine months, like she's a mass millions
[8:52] Speaker 1: and millions of followers in less than a year.
[8:54] Speaker 2: Everyone's just obsessed, and I am one of them, sadly.
[8:58] Speaker 2: But she's getting married on a Thursday, and rich people
[9:01] Speaker 2: just get married on weekdays, and I want to know more.
[9:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, it is kind of crazy.
[9:06] Speaker 2: I just have heard of other people where's like they
[9:07] Speaker 2: got married on a Tuesday, and I just and I
[9:11] Speaker 2: guess days don't matter.
[9:12] Speaker 3: But don't they like I don't, does no one Well, if.
[9:15] Speaker 1: You have regular friends who need to get time off
[9:19] Speaker 1: work to come to your wedding, there's no why right
[9:21] Speaker 1: out of a weekend. Huh they don't have regular friends.
[9:24] Speaker 1: I don't think sure, I'm just like I mean, and
[9:27] Speaker 1: also like I've always heard, even on a Friday, Sunday
[9:31] Speaker 1: is cheaper. Like I've been to a wedding and I
[9:33] Speaker 1: was like, why is it on a Sunday? And it
[9:34] Speaker 1: was like, oh, it's cheaper.
[9:35] Speaker 2: Well, yeah, for sure, but these billionaires don't care about
[9:38] Speaker 2: this wedding is for sure going to be at least
[9:41] Speaker 2: half I mean, millions, millions of dollars. I saw the infights.
[9:45] Speaker 2: I'm she's posting about the houses and dressed like that.
[9:48] Speaker 2: The houses that they looked at, but like why they
[9:51] Speaker 2: didn't work out for them? And it's like the most
[9:53] Speaker 2: it's truly like Versailles. It's like Versailles style sizes and
[9:58] Speaker 2: that's their house like shopping.
[10:01] Speaker 3: This girl about to have a freaking reality show or what.
[10:05] Speaker 2: No, no, no, and she takes no endorsements. Oh no, no, no,
[10:12] Speaker 2: she doesn't need it. She has a finance job. She
[10:14] Speaker 2: got on to dump down finance. Like her thing was
[10:19] Speaker 2: she thinks men over complicated and things are quite simple.
[10:22] Speaker 2: So it started with her like giving finance tips. And
[10:25] Speaker 2: quickly it was like, well, me, I wanted this necklace,
[10:28] Speaker 2: but Van Kleef only sells one type of necklace per household,
[10:31] Speaker 2: and me and my sister like to match.
[10:33] Speaker 3: But they sent it to me.
[10:34] Speaker 1: For my wedding like that, Like yeah, it's like that
[10:37] Speaker 1: kind of a vibe. It's last week we talked about
[10:46] Speaker 1: some here up, some here down, and a lot of
[10:48] Speaker 1: people have weighed in on what they call some here up,
[10:51] Speaker 1: some here down. Okay, I need a shorter way tell us, Yeah,
[10:55] Speaker 1: So here are some of the ones I've gotten. So
[10:58] Speaker 1: a bunch of people have said half pony that they
[11:01] Speaker 1: call it a half pony Okay, half pony, I guess
[11:04] Speaker 1: makes sense because only half your hair is in it.
[11:06] Speaker 3: Yeah, that makes sense.
[11:09] Speaker 1: A Samantha someone said they called it because that's how
[11:11] Speaker 1: this girl, the American girl Samantha wore her.
[11:13] Speaker 3: Hair so great.
[11:15] Speaker 1: But the one we got the most was Pollyanna. They
[11:20] Speaker 1: called it a Pollyanna.
[11:21] Speaker 2: Wait, legit, that's like the thing probably that's I've never
[11:25] Speaker 2: even heard that once.
[11:27] Speaker 3: Yeah, Pollyanna.
[11:30] Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to uh get, I'm gonna say that
[11:32] Speaker 2: next time to a stylist. Can I get up Pollyanna
[11:35] Speaker 2: and see what they say? It's definitely quicker than some
[11:38] Speaker 2: hair aff has some half down. I'd love to say. Yeah,
[11:43] Speaker 2: So that's all I got.
[11:45] Speaker 1: But also somebody wrote us Victoria on Instagram wrote us
[11:51] Speaker 1: a question that I thought was interest interesting, but I
[11:54] Speaker 1: think we know the answer to it. But they were like,
[11:56] Speaker 1: do you think that Dean Winters makes more money from SVU?
[12:00] Speaker 1: And like and like residuals or Mayhem Mayhem and it's Mayhem, right, Like,
[12:06] Speaker 1: I know, it's definitely Mayhem. He did thirty one episodes
[12:08] Speaker 1: of SVU, so he definitely and it plays constantly on
[12:11] Speaker 1: seven different channels, so he's definitely making money from SVU forever.
[12:15] Speaker 1: But now he's like Mayhem. I mean like they got
[12:19] Speaker 1: to pay him the big bucks.
[12:21] Speaker 2: Oh, I loved what you posted, uh the maloney where
[12:25] Speaker 2: he reposted the FBI cash Patel dude and was like
[12:29] Speaker 2: accept some pedophiles or something.
[12:31] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[12:32] Speaker 2: I just like I love when I love when it's maloney.
[12:35] Speaker 2: I mean I love what it's stabler. Yeah, comes out
[12:39] Speaker 2: on Mega.
[12:40] Speaker 1: He's like a Mega, Like, oh, hardcore, but I just liberal,
[12:44] Speaker 1: like just like trolls.
[12:46] Speaker 2: On online all. But I like when it's about sex crimes.
[12:49] Speaker 2: You know it's uh.
[12:51] Speaker 1: I think he just did an architectural digest because people
[12:53] Speaker 1: are kidding me a chance to look well.
[12:56] Speaker 2: Also, the Flow the Progressive Lady did a CBA Sunday
[13:01] Speaker 2: Morning that only saw a clip of that I'm dying
[13:03] Speaker 2: to watch. Really, Yeah, I'm a curios Yeah, I can't
[13:07] Speaker 2: wait to be cause she like improvides something.
[13:09] Speaker 3: It was going to be a one off, you know,
[13:11] Speaker 3: obviously it's like a wild story.
[13:12] Speaker 2: No one imagines they're going to be like how she
[13:14] Speaker 2: Halloween costume for decades to come. Yeah, but she's definitely
[13:19] Speaker 2: richer than Mayhem, I would.
[13:21] Speaker 3: Assume, right.
[13:22] Speaker 1: Oh, Yeah, I think that girl is uh and like
[13:25] Speaker 1: people know her from, people know her from like comedy,
[13:30] Speaker 1: are all like, she's really cool and nice and talented.
[13:33] Speaker 1: So I'm happy for her. I want her to hold on.
[13:35] Speaker 1: I just opened this link and I'm sending it to you.
[13:37] Speaker 2: Hold on, Yeah, one hour ago. It's only one hour ago.
[13:40] Speaker 2: Inside Serene, NYC home.
[13:43] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[13:43] Speaker 1: I've already received it like seven times, so I just
[13:47] Speaker 1: hadn't had a chance to watch it yet. So they're WHOA,
[13:49] Speaker 1: I can't believe he lives there. Oh that's so, you know.
[13:53] Speaker 1: I mean, we've talked about this, but he lived in
[13:55] Speaker 1: my hometown for like two years in a massive mansion.
[13:58] Speaker 3: Wait, dude, this camp. This is gorgeous.
[14:03] Speaker 1: Wow, oh my god, it's just the little thumb.
[14:09] Speaker 2: I'm watching it small and my jaw is on the floor.
[14:12] Speaker 2: It's gorgeous. I wonder where it is.
[14:14] Speaker 3: Well, I can't wait to get in there.
[14:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's gonna be exciting.
[14:20] Speaker 3: How is family camp or what else? What else?
[14:23] Speaker 4: Well?
[14:23] Speaker 3: Family camp was great.
[14:24] Speaker 1: No say what you were gonna say, because I feel
[14:26] Speaker 1: like family camps. I was just gonna say. I on
[14:29] Speaker 1: the way home from Family Camp home two days ago.
[14:33] Speaker 1: I keep getting roped in to movies on Delta that
[14:37] Speaker 1: have famous, famous people in them, but I've never heard
[14:40] Speaker 1: of them, and I keep forgetting that there's a reason why.
[14:45] Speaker 1: Like I watched this movie called The Fabulous Four, and
[14:48] Speaker 1: if you could literally ask Ai to make a movie
[14:51] Speaker 1: for Kara Clank, it's like, this is the movie. Okay,
[14:54] Speaker 1: it's Susan Sarandon, Megan Malally, Bette Middler. Literally my io
[15:00] Speaker 1: on Twitter forever was like Bette Midler enthusiast, like I
[15:04] Speaker 1: have been obsessed with Bettedler since I was a child,
[15:07] Speaker 1: and Shirley Ralph. Okay, they play four best friends. I
[15:12] Speaker 1: mean it's literally it's book Club, It's Palms. It's like
[15:15] Speaker 1: all the movies that I like about old ladies hanging
[15:17] Speaker 1: out with each other and maybe one or two of
[15:18] Speaker 1: them finds love, Like that's what I need. And so
[15:23] Speaker 1: basically in this movie, they all go down to Key West,
[15:27] Speaker 1: where I've been dying to go my whole fucking life.
[15:30] Speaker 3: I've never been there.
[15:31] Speaker 1: They all go down to Key West for one of
[15:33] Speaker 1: them is getting remarried and they're all gonna go down
[15:35] Speaker 1: and be the bridesmaids. It is so bad, I don't
[15:41] Speaker 1: It was such a bad fucking movie. I kept being
[15:46] Speaker 1: like should I turn this off? And then I was
[15:48] Speaker 1: like no, I mean Malaly like tries to save it
[15:50] Speaker 1: a little bit. But like what's it called. It's called
[15:53] Speaker 1: the the It's called the Fabulous Four. So like in
[15:56] Speaker 1: the movie Bette Midler like Mary rich and her husband died.
[16:02] Speaker 2: I haven't seen this and I didn't fall prey to it.
[16:04] Speaker 2: I saw this, Oh my god, Bett Midler's do you
[16:06] Speaker 2: saw it?
[16:06] Speaker 1: You saw it as well? Yeah it's not it's not
[16:09] Speaker 1: necessarily Lisa Bate. It's cantrabate for sure. Like they I
[16:12] Speaker 1: want well after.
[16:13] Speaker 2: Mama Mia and not Mama Mia, Mama, Mafia Mama, Oh.
[16:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, mafia Mama. No.
[16:19] Speaker 2: And what's the one where it's like a bunch again
[16:22] Speaker 2: a bunch of stars and it's like couples and the
[16:25] Speaker 2: people are day.
[16:25] Speaker 1: One with like Richard gear and and and oh and
[16:29] Speaker 1: Emma Roberts and like all the other Like this is
[16:32] Speaker 1: so bad? Why is this so bad? Like I just
[16:35] Speaker 1: I don't understand. Like I was telling Jared, I was like,
[16:39] Speaker 1: why would these women do a bad movie? Like it's
[16:41] Speaker 1: not but do you think it's bad?
[16:43] Speaker 2: In the edit and they had fun and it was good,
[16:45] Speaker 2: and it's that sucks, or there's the writing bat as well,
[16:48] Speaker 2: and then it's like is this a favor?
[16:50] Speaker 3: Like who is this director? Right?
[16:52] Speaker 1: Like I want to know what's up? I know, I
[16:55] Speaker 1: really can't tell. It would be like a lot of favors.
[16:57] Speaker 1: It'd be like a it's like a favor to pulling
[16:59] Speaker 1: Susan Sarandon, but to get then Bett Middler, Cherrilee Ralph.
[17:02] Speaker 2: I mean Sarandon likes to work, dude, because she's in
[17:05] Speaker 2: Yars movie.
[17:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, Yoster probably wrote a really funny movie. I haven't
[17:11] Speaker 1: watched it yet. Yeah, it is very funny. Yostters like
[17:13] Speaker 1: a joke writer. I mean, I don't know who wrote
[17:15] Speaker 1: this shit. I don't know if it's the writing. The
[17:17] Speaker 1: writing was bad. But also like they really let Megan
[17:21] Speaker 1: Malally be loose and that was great, Like she was
[17:23] Speaker 1: fun She's like funny. She's supposed to be a singer.
[17:26] Speaker 1: What kind of singer? We have no idea. We just
[17:29] Speaker 1: once to see her in a recording booth and then
[17:31] Speaker 1: the rest of the time. Her whole identity is that
[17:33] Speaker 1: she wears Gucci but like cool streetwear Gucci and likes
[17:36] Speaker 1: to fuck younger men and that's her whole identity basically,
[17:40] Speaker 1: and then which one Megan Malaly's okay, and then Charlie
[17:43] Speaker 1: Ralph's character has a weed business, runs a weed business,
[17:48] Speaker 1: and then.
[17:48] Speaker 2: Her this must be a woman that comes from money
[17:51] Speaker 2: because from this director's made like fourteen movies.
[17:56] Speaker 3: I have not heard of one of them.
[17:57] Speaker 1: Like, we're all just like letting somebody Becca Black. I
[18:00] Speaker 1: mean not that now. I guess Rebecca Black is cool.
[18:03] Speaker 1: It's come full circle. But like you know, when she
[18:05] Speaker 1: originally came out on the scene, it was like, oh,
[18:06] Speaker 1: we're just like letting anybody buy a pop song. But
[18:10] Speaker 1: like I, I just know the movie Proof, So she
[18:13] Speaker 1: did Proof. I guess people know that movie. Oh is
[18:16] Speaker 1: that the one with Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman. No, No,
[18:20] Speaker 1: that's Prime, that's Prime. What's Proof?
[18:22] Speaker 2: I don't know, but I have no idea, but it
[18:24] Speaker 2: sounds like something people, Oh Russell Crow's, isn't it.
[18:26] Speaker 3: I just like I could not understand.
[18:28] Speaker 1: I was like, you got women have been like Shirly
[18:32] Speaker 1: Ralph is like Curdly winning Emmys all the time.
[18:35] Speaker 2: They were all like Oscar her husband. Her husband directed
[18:38] Speaker 2: Muriel's wedding. Okay, things are things.
[18:41] Speaker 1: Are big, okay, clearer, okay, okay, but still it's like
[18:45] Speaker 1: you guys didn't have.
[18:46] Speaker 3: The resources to like the like it's there.
[18:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, so her higher assailing Muriel's wedding, My best Friend's
[18:52] Speaker 2: wedding Peter Pan in two thousand and three, and Confessions
[18:55] Speaker 2: of a Chopaholic.
[18:56] Speaker 1: Oh okay, Confessions of a Shopaholic. I just like Irandon's
[19:03] Speaker 1: character is a ridiculous cartoon. There's like this whole the
[19:07] Speaker 1: plot makes next to no sense. At one point, they
[19:11] Speaker 1: go parasailing. You know, we're like where you just sit
[19:14] Speaker 1: in the thing they are. It's so it's green screen
[19:17] Speaker 1: like it's full. It looks like a Saturday Night Live
[19:18] Speaker 1: sketch of people going parasailing. Like it's there's so much
[19:22] Speaker 1: about it that makes no sense to me. In the
[19:24] Speaker 1: parasailing scene, Susan Sarandon's too scared to go, so it's
[19:27] Speaker 1: just the other three Bette Midler and Cherlie Ralph, all
[19:30] Speaker 1: obviously iconic singers. I guess Megan Malally sings. I didn't
[19:33] Speaker 1: really know that. So they're up in the parasale and
[19:36] Speaker 1: they're singing. I can see clearly now the rain has
[19:39] Speaker 1: gone that song and They're like just up there singing.
[19:41] Speaker 1: You're like, Okay, I get this. The point of this
[19:43] Speaker 1: scene is you just wanted these three women to like
[19:44] Speaker 1: sing together. And then at the very end of the movie,
[19:48] Speaker 1: but by the way, why is Cheryl with Ralph not
[19:50] Speaker 1: the singer? Why is Bett Midler not the singer? Like,
[19:52] Speaker 1: I just Megan Malaly's the singer. Megan Malally at one
[19:55] Speaker 1: point in the movie sings a duet with Michael Bolton.
[19:59] Speaker 3: It doesn't sound that good. And I'm saying this as someone.
[20:01] Speaker 1: Who is like a huge fan of Megan Malally and
[20:06] Speaker 1: I just was like, why did they have Bette.
[20:08] Speaker 3: Midler sing with Michael Bolton? Like what's happening?
[20:11] Speaker 1: Then at the very end they repriase I can see
[20:14] Speaker 1: clearly now, but just bet Middler and Cherylie Ralph are
[20:19] Speaker 1: singing and Susan Sarandon's off to the side and Megan
[20:22] Speaker 1: Malalley's know where to be found and they keep doing
[20:24] Speaker 1: tight shots of Megan Malaley and You're like, someone couldn't
[20:26] Speaker 1: make the shoot day, Like someone was like, I can
[20:29] Speaker 1: do it, but I can't be there for that last day.
[20:31] Speaker 1: So they like praise this big singing song. But the
[20:34] Speaker 1: singer in the group is not there. That's just like
[20:36] Speaker 1: one of my things. None of it makes any sense.
[20:39] Speaker 1: It's silly, but it made me like, it made me
[20:41] Speaker 1: want to go to Key West. You know they it
[20:43] Speaker 1: looks like they shot it all in q wes. Well,
[20:45] Speaker 1: you actually did the opposite, and I'm about to watch it.
[20:47] Speaker 1: So girl, you fly enough that you like you, you
[20:50] Speaker 1: should definitely throw it on and Bette Midler's character.
[20:53] Speaker 2: Save wait the dressmaker. Okay, so I did discredit this woman,
[20:57] Speaker 2: and I do feel bad. She did make some movies
[21:00] Speaker 2: that people like, how to make an American Quilt? I
[21:02] Speaker 2: get it a thousand acres.
[21:05] Speaker 1: I don't know what happened then? Was it the edit?
[21:07] Speaker 1: Was it the like the writing? It's just it.
[21:11] Speaker 2: I want to know how much everyone got paid, what
[21:12] Speaker 2: the budget was, how they get it?
[21:13] Speaker 3: Like now, I just want to know everything. I want
[21:16] Speaker 3: to know here.
[21:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, are they like sitting around being like
[21:19] Speaker 1: this sucks, or like are they having a like are
[21:22] Speaker 1: they trying? Like?
[21:23] Speaker 3: I don't know?
[21:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the writers have not written much. It's
[21:26] Speaker 1: like a writer team that has not written much, so
[21:30] Speaker 1: I don't know. But they're also having something upcoming called
[21:34] Speaker 1: you're dating a narcissist that they wrote. But I just
[21:38] Speaker 1: I was like, these women are all fine. I do
[21:41] Speaker 1: wonder any comedy, yeah yeah, And it just was it
[21:45] Speaker 1: was it felt so crazy to me, Like I was like,
[21:47] Speaker 1: what happened? Were they only given a week to make
[21:49] Speaker 1: the movie? Like it was so confusing to me. But
[21:53] Speaker 1: Megan mulally is charming in it. I like love her,
[21:56] Speaker 1: and her character's just like a slutty like likes to
[21:59] Speaker 1: get high and drunks, and I like her. Susan Saranda's
[22:02] Speaker 1: character does not exist on this planet. Like it's an
[22:05] Speaker 1: insane character. And there's like a whole there's like a
[22:09] Speaker 1: whole secret, not a secret, but a reason why two
[22:12] Speaker 1: of them don't get along, Bette Midler and Susan Sarandon,
[22:15] Speaker 1: And like you find out very quickly, it's that Susan,
[22:18] Speaker 1: the husband that Bette Midler just lost, her husband of
[22:20] Speaker 1: twenty seven years, was dating Susan Saranon first and Bette
[22:23] Speaker 1: Midler stole him. And Bette Midler's character is like, I
[22:26] Speaker 1: don't know what happened between us?
[22:28] Speaker 3: What where did our friendship go?
[22:30] Speaker 1: That is a recurring thing that she keeps saying and
[22:32] Speaker 1: it's like you stole her boyfriend and married him.
[22:35] Speaker 3: I don't know that, Like, what are we dumb? Like
[22:38] Speaker 3: it makes no sense to me.
[22:40] Speaker 1: But you know, I watched it on the plane and
[22:42] Speaker 1: I didn't have to watch dog Man, which Rosie was
[22:44] Speaker 1: begging me to watch.
[22:46] Speaker 3: Dog Man. Oh my god.
[22:49] Speaker 1: Dog Man are these books about a cop and his dog.
[22:52] Speaker 1: And in the very first book, they get into an
[22:53] Speaker 1: accident and they can't save the CoP's head and they
[22:56] Speaker 1: can't save the dog's body, so they plant the dog's
[22:59] Speaker 1: head on the CoP's body. And he doesn't talk, but
[23:02] Speaker 1: he has all these adventures and his nemesis is named
[23:05] Speaker 1: Petie the Cat. And in the movie, I think in
[23:08] Speaker 1: the movie Pete Davidson voices PD or no, I don't remember,
[23:10] Speaker 1: somebody does. Anyway, the movie was actually very funny. The
[23:14] Speaker 1: dog Man movie is funny if you have to go
[23:15] Speaker 1: see movies with your kids, it's funny. Unlike minecraft movie,
[23:18] Speaker 1: where I had no idea what was going on the
[23:19] Speaker 1: entire time. Dogman movie was at least funny and had jokes.
[23:23] Speaker 1: But did you see my story also of how my
[23:28] Speaker 1: renter who rented my house for the summer, like transformed
[23:31] Speaker 1: my garden and planted fifty plus herbs, vegetables and flowers
[23:36] Speaker 1: in my garden.
[23:37] Speaker 2: I mean, are you gonna murder them or keep them up?
[23:39] Speaker 2: That was my first thought. I'm gonna try. It's a lot.
[23:42] Speaker 1: Well, I have a drip system, So I'm thinking if
[23:44] Speaker 1: I adjust the drip system to a little bit more water,
[23:46] Speaker 1: maybe I don't have to do as so much up keep.
[23:48] Speaker 1: Yesterday I was out there watering them by hand. But
[23:50] Speaker 1: it's day one, you know, like, I don't know if
[23:52] Speaker 1: this will keep up.
[23:53] Speaker 3: Are you gonna partake in the produce that's being grown? Oh?
[23:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, there's already a cucumber out there that looks ready
[23:59] Speaker 1: to go. Also, she saw that she saw some of
[24:05] Speaker 1: the art we have, like hanging on the walls of
[24:07] Speaker 1: that the kids have drawn, and they like butterflies and stuff,
[24:10] Speaker 1: and so she grew butterflies at our house. Like she
[24:14] Speaker 1: started raising butterflies like on milkweed, and like they turned
[24:18] Speaker 1: into caterpillars. And then she noticed that the caterpillars were
[24:20] Speaker 1: getting eaten by lizards. So she bought these like netted
[24:24] Speaker 1: cages and brought them into the house. And so when
[24:26] Speaker 1: we got home, there were twenty one chrysalises, and we
[24:32] Speaker 1: brought there was nine and one and thirteen in the others.
[24:34] Speaker 1: We brought the thirteen to Oscar's class because his teacher
[24:36] Speaker 1: loves butterflies and loves raising them. That's why Rosie got
[24:39] Speaker 1: into butterflies. So they're raising thirteen of them. Three have
[24:44] Speaker 1: already closed. It's called e closing. I'm learning a lot
[24:47] Speaker 1: about butterfly biology. And one has already closed at our
[24:52] Speaker 1: house and we let it go yesterday, but there's like
[24:54] Speaker 1: four that are about to go because you can tell
[24:56] Speaker 1: because the chrysalises get really dark and they just honestly,
[24:59] Speaker 1: I didn't see it happened.
[25:00] Speaker 3: It just suddenly there was a butterfly in the cage.
[25:02] Speaker 1: Wow. And then you have to let it out onto
[25:04] Speaker 1: a flower like it within four to twenty four hours
[25:08] Speaker 1: of it being born borned.
[25:11] Speaker 3: And she just started.
[25:12] Speaker 1: Actually the renter and I'm not going to say her name,
[25:14] Speaker 1: but we have like basically become friends. We text all
[25:16] Speaker 1: the time, and she started listening to my podcast and
[25:19] Speaker 1: so she's like, I love you guys, I want to
[25:21] Speaker 1: hang out with you.
[25:22] Speaker 3: And I'm like, you know, what, where did you find
[25:24] Speaker 3: this woman? This is incredible.
[25:26] Speaker 1: Butterflies herbs, I know, like truly Airbnb, which is crazy.
[25:33] Speaker 1: Like I tried to go through channels of renting to
[25:35] Speaker 1: people like that I knew were friends of friends, and
[25:38] Speaker 1: I just threw it up on Airbnb and she contacted
[25:40] Speaker 1: me and wanted to and I was like, can you
[25:42] Speaker 1: please come back every single summer? But she might move
[25:44] Speaker 1: to LA And when she does, I'm sure we're gonna
[25:46] Speaker 1: hang out because I don't know. Wow, this is huge,
[25:51] Speaker 1: so exciting, and why was she there? She lives in Arizona.
[25:56] Speaker 1: She lives in Arizona and it's so hot there in
[25:58] Speaker 1: the summer that she like comes to LA for just
[26:01] Speaker 1: like a little relief. Plus she has a kid that
[26:03] Speaker 1: lives here. Okay, I love that LA and the summer
[26:06] Speaker 1: is the relief. I know if you live in Phoenix,
[26:09] Speaker 1: I think it is. I mean, at least we have
[26:11] Speaker 1: cool nights. We're honestly going into the hottest time. September
[26:14] Speaker 1: is the hottest fucking time in LA. I'm not I
[26:17] Speaker 1: don't know, I'm not that pumped for it. But yeah,
[26:20] Speaker 1: Family Camp was great. I was the director this year.
[26:23] Speaker 1: A lot of questions, a lot of a lot of questions,
[26:25] Speaker 1: a lot of eye contact, a woman at the end
[26:26] Speaker 1: told me I had a really great You did a
[26:28] Speaker 1: really great job.
[26:29] Speaker 3: You made a lot of eye contact, and I was like, wow,
[26:31] Speaker 3: thank you. Wow.
[26:33] Speaker 1: Okay, you know, uh, but we had a great time.
[26:38] Speaker 1: You know. It was more work for me than usual,
[26:40] Speaker 1: but I still got to spend like a lot of
[26:42] Speaker 1: time with the kids. And now we're back from two
[26:44] Speaker 1: months and my house is like in shambles, Like I
[26:47] Speaker 1: have to spend the next two days like putting it
[26:48] Speaker 1: back together, get all.
[26:50] Speaker 3: The stuff out.
[26:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, what were the big our biggest blenders, Like what
[26:56] Speaker 2: are the deets on family Camp?
[26:58] Speaker 3: Outside of eye contact?
[27:01] Speaker 1: I mean I forgot to announce yoga, so we just
[27:04] Speaker 1: never offered it. But you know, that's that's all. That's
[27:07] Speaker 1: I didn't make too many massive mistakes. Oh, I mean
[27:10] Speaker 1: I one time I forgot to tell somebody they were
[27:13] Speaker 1: taking someone to the airport and they were waiting for
[27:14] Speaker 1: a ride at five am. But that was actually not
[27:16] Speaker 1: my fault, it was someone else's. But that's it, not
[27:19] Speaker 1: that many blunders. I mean I've that it was my
[27:21] Speaker 1: fourteenth time doing family camp, so like I kind of
[27:24] Speaker 1: know how it works, Yeah, because I did it when
[27:27] Speaker 1: I was in my twenties and I've done it and
[27:30] Speaker 1: some in my thirties, you know, I've like not consecutive,
[27:32] Speaker 1: you know, like over the years.
[27:34] Speaker 3: Wow.
[27:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, So it was fun though. It was fun and
[27:37] Speaker 1: like the whole trip was good. Thank you to everybody
[27:39] Speaker 1: that came to the New York Show. This is our
[27:41] Speaker 1: first time being doing an episode that was so fun.
[27:45] Speaker 1: If you weren't at our New York show, we had
[27:48] Speaker 1: quite a time. Somebody in the audience yelled out, it's
[27:53] Speaker 1: Marcia gay Harden's birthday, which it was, and I didn't
[27:57] Speaker 1: know that because I was telling everybody how me and
[28:00] Speaker 1: Marsha have been texting recipes back and forth because after
[28:03] Speaker 1: she sent me the original messipee, I made one and
[28:05] Speaker 1: I sent it to her and then she sent me
[28:07] Speaker 1: another one. So now I got to do this one.
[28:09] Speaker 1: And this guy yelled out, it's Marsha gay Heart's birthday.
[28:13] Speaker 1: I went, no way, should I should I text her?
[28:16] Speaker 1: So I texted her sing. Someone in our audience just
[28:19] Speaker 1: yelled out that it's your birthday. Uh, so I have
[28:22] Speaker 1: to say happy birthday. And then Lisa was like, I
[28:24] Speaker 1: think you it was your idea. You were like, let's
[28:26] Speaker 1: sing to her or somebody did someone I was so
[28:30] Speaker 1: I took a video of the whole audience at the
[28:33] Speaker 1: Bellhouse packed singing Happy birthday Marcia gay Harden and I
[28:38] Speaker 1: sent her that and she sent me a voice note
[28:40] Speaker 1: back which I played on stage. Casey's like oh my god,
[28:44] Speaker 1: which I played on stage of her being like, oh
[28:46] Speaker 1: my god, this is amazing. I gotta post this. She
[28:49] Speaker 1: hasn't posted it, but you know, it was just her
[28:51] Speaker 1: Birthday's her prerogative. But so Bronwyn was at the show.
[28:56] Speaker 1: We brought out a special guest. Yeah, that was really exciting.
[29:00] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[29:01] Speaker 1: I was like, we gotta say your name because you
[29:03] Speaker 1: don't read exactly like Brounwin anymore.
[29:05] Speaker 3: You know, her hair's not as long.
[29:07] Speaker 1: You know. I'm like, you're not holding a tin of lasagna.
[29:10] Speaker 1: You know it's everybody? No, Yeah, I think so. It
[29:13] Speaker 1: was so much fun. Loved meeting everyone. I had so
[29:17] Speaker 1: much fun that night. We did bombshell time of our lives.
[29:21] Speaker 1: We do have to start.
[29:22] Speaker 2: I do want to say I am on the road,
[29:24] Speaker 2: so come see me in Plano, Texas, Springfield, Missouri. I'm
[29:29] Speaker 2: going to Amsterdam, Paris, London, Dublin, Australia, Hartford, Connecticut at Hartford,
[29:39] Speaker 2: my college town, other place San Francisco and Baltimore.
[29:42] Speaker 1: I mean, what are you doing in Hartford? Are you
[29:44] Speaker 1: doing city Steam or are you doing the club that
[29:46] Speaker 1: we did? I'm doing the Funny Bone, Baby, the Funny Bone. Yeah,
[29:51] Speaker 1: all right, there's getting a place called city Steam in
[29:53] Speaker 1: Hartford that other comics do, and my friend used to
[29:55] Speaker 1: waitress there. Anyway, if you want to find out Lisa's
[29:58] Speaker 1: tour dates, it's in her Instagram bio and stuff. But
[30:01] Speaker 1: it's also at that's messed up live dot com. You
[30:03] Speaker 1: can go down to the bottom and like you can
[30:04] Speaker 1: see it says like Lisa's website, and that takes you
[30:06] Speaker 1: to all her dates and that way you can get
[30:10] Speaker 1: legit ticket links.
[30:11] Speaker 3: Don't Google. People get scammed. Get scammed.
[30:14] Speaker 1: Oh my god, you know what I started watching that
[30:16] Speaker 1: I was obsessed with but I haven't finished it.
[30:17] Speaker 3: Well, we're gonna start Thelma. What is it?
[30:21] Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's this movie with June squib Oh
[30:25] Speaker 1: and Parker Cosey and Nicole Byer has a small part
[30:27] Speaker 1: in it. I love it so much and I'm only
[30:31] Speaker 1: like halfway through because the plane landed, So I gotta
[30:33] Speaker 1: go watch the rest, but I was literally laughing so hard.
[30:37] Speaker 1: It's so especially after watching The Fabulous Four. It's so good.
[30:41] Speaker 1: It's so smart. It's like about it's funny, but it's
[30:44] Speaker 1: also about like the getting old and like taking care
[30:47] Speaker 1: of our elderly family and stuff. And it's so good.
[30:51] Speaker 1: I'm like, I mean, unless it like really fucks up
[30:53] Speaker 1: the Landing, I feel like it's one of the best
[30:55] Speaker 1: movies I've seen lately, in Casey's taking and giving it
[30:58] Speaker 1: two thumbs up. I love an older protag and June
[31:01] Speaker 1: Squib is so good, like she's she plays like old
[31:05] Speaker 1: grandma who kind of doesn't know what's going on at
[31:08] Speaker 1: the same time as making like great jokes. Like it's
[31:11] Speaker 1: such a good movie. I'm loving it. And you know,
[31:13] Speaker 1: I love Parker Posey whenever I can get her. And
[31:16] Speaker 1: the boy in it. I didn't recognize him and then
[31:18] Speaker 1: I looked him up and he's from everything.
[31:20] Speaker 3: He's like in He's in White Lotus.
[31:23] Speaker 1: He's like the son in White Lotus the first season,
[31:26] Speaker 1: Connie Britten's son, and like he's in all this stuff.
[31:29] Speaker 1: His name is, it doesn't matter, it's like Fred something.
[31:32] Speaker 1: We gotta get going, We really gotta get.
[31:34] Speaker 3: Going one more quick thing before we start.
[31:36] Speaker 1: I am hosting and producing a show at the Bellhouse
[31:40] Speaker 1: on September twenty eighth in New York.
[31:42] Speaker 3: It's a stand up show.
[31:43] Speaker 1: It's benefiting the Triangle Center, which is an LGBTQ organization
[31:48] Speaker 1: in Connecticut. It's in honor of my friend Jed, who
[31:50] Speaker 1: I've talked about on the podcast, who passed away last year.
[31:53] Speaker 3: And it's going to be an amazing show.
[31:55] Speaker 1: Lisa is on the lineup as well as Josh Sharp,
[31:58] Speaker 1: Jay Jorden, I'm a Willman, Jake Cornell. It's gonna be awesome.
[32:03] Speaker 1: So you can go to the link in my bio
[32:08] Speaker 1: for tickets, Kara Clink on Instagram, or you just go
[32:12] Speaker 1: to the Bellhouse website.
[32:13] Speaker 3: Thank you. Let's get started, all right.
[32:18] Speaker 1: Today we are doing the episode in Loco Parentis. Yeah,
[32:22] Speaker 1: what is this title? What is I'll tell you, I'll
[32:24] Speaker 1: explain it. This is a season nineteen jam. It's Careese heavy,
[32:28] Speaker 1: so all of you Careesi fans get ready.
[32:31] Speaker 3: I don't know why, but this title is misspelled on Hulu.
[32:34] Speaker 1: It's spelled without the ie, so it's just the letter
[32:36] Speaker 1: N and then Loco Parentis. I don't know why, but
[32:38] Speaker 1: This is a Latin phrase that my father used to
[32:41] Speaker 1: use all the time when I was growing up, And
[32:43] Speaker 1: that's kind of how why I know what it means.
[32:46] Speaker 1: Like it basically means acting as the parent. So like,
[32:49] Speaker 1: for example, when I was seventeen and I was a
[32:52] Speaker 1: camp counselor, even though I was a counselor, like I
[32:54] Speaker 1: was on the staff, because I was under eighteen, the
[32:56] Speaker 1: camp was acting in loco parentis and like was responsible
[32:59] Speaker 1: for me. So that's why, like if you were under
[33:01] Speaker 1: eighteen at camp, they were like, you really can't drink
[33:04] Speaker 1: because like we're your parents here, like we're responsible if
[33:07] Speaker 1: anything happens to you. But like you weren't supposed to
[33:10] Speaker 1: drink after you were eighteen until you were twenty one either,
[33:12] Speaker 1: but it was really bad if you were under eighteen.
[33:15] Speaker 1: So that's what it is basically, And I think in
[33:19] Speaker 1: this episode, I think it's in relation to the fact
[33:22] Speaker 1: that the college is trying to be like the parent
[33:25] Speaker 1: figure in this scenario.
[33:28] Speaker 3: So, like we've talked about this.
[33:31] Speaker 1: So many times, but we start with some kind of
[33:33] Speaker 1: like internal tribunal or like case court case that's going
[33:37] Speaker 1: on internally out a college. Okay, and the female accuser
[33:41] Speaker 1: is named Mia. She's on a video chat and then
[33:44] Speaker 1: the guy, Ethan, is in person, looking very uncomfortable. Mia
[33:48] Speaker 1: describes what happened the night of like it's obviously like
[33:52] Speaker 1: I've talked about how I was on a court like this,
[33:55] Speaker 1: but for other bad behaviors that did not involve anything sexual.
[33:58] Speaker 1: That was like a completely different like group. But I
[34:02] Speaker 1: was on like four you got caught with drugs, you
[34:05] Speaker 1: did this, like I was on this group. I tried
[34:08] Speaker 1: to give everybody a pass. Really, I was like, aren't
[34:10] Speaker 1: we just kids? But Mia described that her and Ethan
[34:14] Speaker 1: ran into one another at a campus party. They had
[34:16] Speaker 1: a lot to drink, They went back to her dorm
[34:18] Speaker 1: and from here we just hard cut to cares and
[34:20] Speaker 1: he's out to lunch with his sister Teresa, and he goes,
[34:24] Speaker 1: what are you telling me here, Teresa that my niece
[34:25] Speaker 1: has been raped, And it's like, I'm sorry, Teresa Caresi
[34:28] Speaker 1: is such a funny name to me. I don't know
[34:30] Speaker 1: why I can't get over it. It's it's just like Teresa Carresi.
[34:33] Speaker 1: And we've only seen this woman in one episode this episode,
[34:36] Speaker 1: Like she doesn't recur the way we've seen Bella Careesi
[34:39] Speaker 1: many times, and I think there's even more sisters beyond there.
[34:42] Speaker 3: I'm sure they're just keeping it open. And she is.
[34:45] Speaker 1: Played by Rachel bay Jones, who is a Broadway baby
[34:49] Speaker 1: and won an Emmy, Tony and Grammy for playing the
[34:53] Speaker 1: mom in Dear Evan Hanson. She is three quarters of
[34:57] Speaker 1: her way to Egot. She just needs to at an
[35:00] Speaker 1: oscar And some people also might know her. She's kind
[35:03] Speaker 1: of in like the Young Sheldon universe. She's like a
[35:06] Speaker 1: recurring character on like Young Sheldon and like the new spinoff.
[35:08] Speaker 3: So this woman is she's great.
[35:12] Speaker 1: She's like blonde and like very Italian or whatever, and
[35:15] Speaker 1: she explained she's like the whole thing is a mess.
[35:17] Speaker 1: Mia was drunk and she woke up with this guy
[35:19] Speaker 1: on top of her and Carisie's mad that his sister
[35:22] Speaker 1: didn't call him, but Mia didn't want the cops involved,
[35:25] Speaker 1: and she's trying to be a good mom and like
[35:26] Speaker 1: listen to what her daughter wants. And of course MIA's
[35:28] Speaker 1: dad is named Tony, but they're divorced and he doesn't
[35:31] Speaker 1: know anything, and he's like, why did you even call me?
[35:34] Speaker 1: And she's like I'm scared. Like they don't let parents
[35:36] Speaker 1: into these hearings. And she's there all alone, which is
[35:40] Speaker 1: weird because we very soon find out that Ethan's father
[35:43] Speaker 1: is at the hearing with him.
[35:44] Speaker 3: So I don't know why.
[35:45] Speaker 1: Maybe she just didn't want her at the hearing with
[35:47] Speaker 1: her CARESI calms down. He wants to know who the
[35:51] Speaker 1: bastard is. So now back at the tribunal, and now
[35:54] Speaker 1: we're with Mia and Ethan's on video. So we're live
[35:58] Speaker 1: with Mia and Ethan's testifying on video about how they
[36:01] Speaker 1: were kissing and Mia didn't pull away, she kissed him back,
[36:05] Speaker 1: and then they asked like, well, was if there was
[36:07] Speaker 1: their non con sensual sexual contact, and he's like, I
[36:10] Speaker 1: don't remember, but I'm sure i'd never rape anyone.
[36:14] Speaker 3: And it's just it is.
[36:16] Speaker 1: Wild that, like you're like, well, I just like know
[36:19] Speaker 1: myself and I would never continue having sex with somebody
[36:22] Speaker 1: that didn't want to or wasn't responsive. And I feel
[36:24] Speaker 1: like it's like a lot of men don't actually interrogate
[36:26] Speaker 1: that about themselves, Like especially if you were so drunk,
[36:29] Speaker 1: You're like, you can't even believe that you would keep
[36:31] Speaker 1: doing that, Like if someone looked uncomfortable or froze up
[36:34] Speaker 1: or passed out. You would just keep doing that, you know, Like,
[36:37] Speaker 1: but his the person next to him his like, quote
[36:41] Speaker 1: unquote lawyer like, I don't know who it is.
[36:43] Speaker 3: I'm just calling it.
[36:43] Speaker 1: His lawyer brings up that in me A's original statement,
[36:46] Speaker 1: she said she didn't consent, but then later said she
[36:49] Speaker 1: didn't remember. So they asked me, did you ever give
[36:53] Speaker 1: affirmative consent?
[36:54] Speaker 3: And she says no, I did not.
[36:56] Speaker 1: In the next scene, the dean or whoever it is
[36:59] Speaker 1: presiding over this trybunal says, I've made my decision. I
[37:01] Speaker 1: find Ethan responsible. You're suspended for one year effective. Immediately
[37:06] Speaker 1: pack your shit and get out by five o'clock. This
[37:08] Speaker 1: is sort of the most unbelievable part of it to me,
[37:10] Speaker 1: that a school would actually side with the girl when
[37:12] Speaker 1: there's kind of like no evidence. Yeah, he said she
[37:15] Speaker 1: said that the girl. They'd just be like, you know what,
[37:16] Speaker 1: we think it's you, Ethan. Like that doesn't happen very often.
[37:23] Speaker 1: Ethan is flabbergasted when he hears this like deliberation. He's like,
[37:26] Speaker 1: you bitch, and he says he's like yelling. He's like,
[37:29] Speaker 1: you can't do this to me. This can't be happening.
[37:31] Speaker 1: He's like yelling at the screen, and Mia looks upset.
[37:33] Speaker 1: And now MIA's meeting her mom and uncle Sonny where
[37:37] Speaker 1: they were having lunch, and she's like crying.
[37:39] Speaker 3: She's like, he.
[37:40] Speaker 1: Got suspended for a year.
[37:41] Speaker 3: He was so angry. He yelled and he threatened me.
[37:43] Speaker 1: We don't hear the threat, but he does call her
[37:46] Speaker 1: a bitch and says, like, you can't.
[37:48] Speaker 3: Be doing this to me.
[37:49] Speaker 1: Sonny goes, I'm gonna take care of this, and they go, well,
[37:51] Speaker 1: what are you gonna do? And he's like, I'm gonna
[37:52] Speaker 1: do what I would have done in the first place,
[37:54] Speaker 1: open a police investigation and arrest this son of a bitch.
[37:56] Speaker 1: And it's like I appreciate his anger. I know it's
[37:59] Speaker 1: his niece, but it's like he knows as well as
[38:01] Speaker 1: I do. Like there will likely be no evidence at
[38:03] Speaker 1: this point. I guess maybe we could find a Monica
[38:05] Speaker 1: Lewinski dress or something, but like that doesn't even really
[38:08] Speaker 1: that's not really even like a smoking gun when it's
[38:10] Speaker 1: like he said, she said about consent, you know. And anyway,
[38:13] Speaker 1: now we're at the credits at the top of Act one,
[38:15] Speaker 1: where it lives office and she's filling Stone in about
[38:18] Speaker 1: the case. So this is a Stone season. He's still,
[38:21] Speaker 1: you know, getting his footing with victims and stuff, and
[38:25] Speaker 1: Carisey is there explaining that the assault happened three months
[38:27] Speaker 1: ago at Hudson University obviously where else the victim never
[38:31] Speaker 1: went to the police and it was handled internally by
[38:33] Speaker 1: the school. Caresee's fired up, he'd tells Stone the school
[38:36] Speaker 1: only suspended this guy for a year and he made threats,
[38:38] Speaker 1: so he's a danger to the victim. And He's like,
[38:40] Speaker 1: who I have to disclose is my eighteen year old niece.
[38:44] Speaker 1: So he says he believes her and that the school
[38:47] Speaker 1: did too, and Stone goes okay. So despite Betsy de Vos,
[38:52] Speaker 1: which if you'll remember, is Trump's we thought was the
[38:55] Speaker 1: worst Department of Education pick we could get, but it
[38:58] Speaker 1: got worse. Despite Betsy of us, is New York's enough
[39:01] Speaker 1: is Enough laws still on the books. In July twenty fifteen,
[39:05] Speaker 1: New York established enough is Enough to address sexual assault,
[39:07] Speaker 1: dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking on college campuses. It
[39:11] Speaker 1: was one of the first laws in the country to
[39:13] Speaker 1: require that all colleges and universities adopt a set of
[39:16] Speaker 1: comprehensive procedures and guidelines, a uniform definition of affirmative consent
[39:21] Speaker 1: am Disney for bit standers who report or victims who report,
[39:25] Speaker 1: a student bill of rights, and that all campuses undertake
[39:28] Speaker 1: campus climate surveys as well as prevention and awareness training.
[39:31] Speaker 1: So that's a good step, I would say, But that
[39:34] Speaker 1: was happening in New York, and I'm not sure what
[39:37] Speaker 1: other states followed suit. But Benson says, yes, the law
[39:40] Speaker 1: is still in effect and caresy clarifies for the audience,
[39:42] Speaker 1: like fully for our benefit. He goes, yeah, I know,
[39:45] Speaker 1: the school only needs a preponderance of evidence to convict,
[39:48] Speaker 1: whereas the state needs beyond a reasonable doubt, meaning this
[39:51] Speaker 1: is not going to be easy. And Stone's hurt enough
[39:53] Speaker 1: and he gets up to leave, but surprise, he's on board.
[39:56] Speaker 1: Barboa would never but this guy's like, oh sure, I'm
[39:59] Speaker 1: trying to make friends. Yeah, Barbara just murdered a baby,
[40:02] Speaker 1: but right, and he's like, all right, I'm gonna subpoena
[40:07] Speaker 1: the tribunal transcripts and until you guys get enough evidence
[40:10] Speaker 1: to charge this guy with rape.
[40:11] Speaker 3: Son he leaves.
[40:12] Speaker 1: Benson tells Carries, you know, officially you're off the case
[40:16] Speaker 1: but unofficially don't fuck it up. So then in the bullpen,
[40:19] Speaker 1: Stone runs into Finn and goes, hey, Antonio Dawson says, hi,
[40:24] Speaker 1: and Antonio Dawson for you Chicago people is a Chicago
[40:27] Speaker 1: p D guy and fire and we've met him on
[40:30] Speaker 1: the episode Nationwide man Hunt a couple of seasons ago,
[40:34] Speaker 1: when you know Chicago crossed over to find Yates and
[40:37] Speaker 1: Rollin sees Finn have this little interaction with Stone and
[40:40] Speaker 1: goes YouTube Buddies now, and Finn's like, I don't know,
[40:43] Speaker 1: I think he's cool like, and Rollins goes, I think
[40:45] Speaker 1: he should go back to Chicago, and she's got this
[40:47] Speaker 1: like sweet little bitch smile on when she says it,
[40:49] Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, yeah, I forgot you guys like
[40:51] Speaker 1: hate him some of you, and Finn goes, it's not
[40:54] Speaker 1: his fault. Barbara pulled the plug on that baby, and yikes,
[40:57] Speaker 1: he's really laying it down like it is not his fault.
[41:01] Speaker 1: Next stop is the home of Teresa Cariesi, and she
[41:04] Speaker 1: lives in New Haven, Connecticut, classic home of many Italian Americans.
[41:10] Speaker 1: She's gushing to Benson, oh Sonny tells me so much
[41:13] Speaker 1: about you, it's embarrassing him. Benson's like, okay, I want
[41:16] Speaker 1: to talk to Mia. They go to her pink bedroom
[41:18] Speaker 1: with like gymnastics trophies and a butterfly paintings, and Mia
[41:22] Speaker 1: tells Benson she didn't really know Ethan that well. He
[41:24] Speaker 1: was friends with her roommate Renata, and she tells Benson
[41:30] Speaker 1: she's like, well, you know, I did invite Ethan to
[41:31] Speaker 1: my room, and then she tells her like, we sat
[41:35] Speaker 1: on the bed, we kissed a few times, and then
[41:37] Speaker 1: he just got on top of me, and I could
[41:39] Speaker 1: feel that he was ready quote unquote, and then she goes,
[41:42] Speaker 1: it happened so fast, he put his tongue in my mouth.
[41:44] Speaker 1: I pushed him away, but before I knew what was happening,
[41:46] Speaker 1: he was inside me. And Benson's like, I just want
[41:48] Speaker 1: to know if you said no, and me is like
[41:50] Speaker 1: I think I did, and she definitely said wait and
[41:54] Speaker 1: pushed him off, and he got all mad and left.
[41:56] Speaker 1: And so now we're at Ethan's family's house, and that's
[41:59] Speaker 1: when I see that the guy who was in the
[42:01] Speaker 1: tribunal with him is his dad, Like he was fully
[42:04] Speaker 1: with his dad, being like represented by his dad, and
[42:08] Speaker 1: so I don't know why, like they weren't she wasn't allowed.
[42:11] Speaker 1: But I can understand why, Teresa KRIESI would not be
[42:13] Speaker 1: helpful in a situation like that. And he goes, my
[42:18] Speaker 1: son's going to be arrested for rape, and Ethan's sitting
[42:20] Speaker 1: on the staircase, going, I told you her uncle was
[42:23] Speaker 1: a cop, and Finn and Rollins are like, no, no,
[42:24] Speaker 1: we just want to hear your side, and the mom
[42:27] Speaker 1: another hashtag boy mom can't believe that he's suspended. She's like,
[42:30] Speaker 1: he can't even go to class. It's like, yeah, that's
[42:32] Speaker 1: what happens when you get suspended. It's not like they
[42:34] Speaker 1: just like take you off the meal plan, like you're
[42:36] Speaker 1: gone from the whole school, no class, no nothing. And
[42:39] Speaker 1: she goes and the dad goes, well, we're going to appeal,
[42:42] Speaker 1: and Finn tells them, okay, well this is an open
[42:44] Speaker 1: police investigation.
[42:45] Speaker 3: I just have to let you guys know.
[42:46] Speaker 1: And Ethan's dad's like, well, we're getting a lawyer this time,
[42:49] Speaker 1: and Ethan pipes in. He's like, I didn't even want
[42:50] Speaker 1: to hook up with Mia. I only went there because
[42:53] Speaker 1: I thought Renata was going to be there. And then
[42:54] Speaker 1: the dad tells him to shut the fuck up, and
[42:56] Speaker 1: he kicks the cops out of the house. So they
[42:57] Speaker 1: don't really get that much, but Finn and Rollins are like,
[43:00] Speaker 1: let's go talk to Renata. So they're on a beautiful
[43:03] Speaker 1: outdoor walk and talk with Renata. She's pretty, she's in
[43:06] Speaker 1: fall fashion for college and it's like a pretty campus
[43:10] Speaker 1: and they're walking and talking and.
[43:11] Speaker 3: She's like, I was so shocked to hear what Ethan did.
[43:13] Speaker 1: Mia told me the next day after after I got
[43:16] Speaker 1: back from skiing with my parents. She said, I asked
[43:19] Speaker 1: Mia what Ethan was even doing in their room, and
[43:21] Speaker 1: she just started crying, saying she didn't want to have
[43:24] Speaker 1: sex and he forced her, and Renata can't believe. She's like,
[43:27] Speaker 1: I can't believe I ever went out with him. I
[43:29] Speaker 1: thought he was one of the nice guys, like non toxic,
[43:32] Speaker 1: And so Rollins thinks it's notable that after Renauta walks away,
[43:37] Speaker 1: Rollin's is like, huh, so like Mia didn't actually disclose
[43:40] Speaker 1: to Renauta until Renauda brought up Ethan and Cariese's like,
[43:43] Speaker 1: so so what, Like it's actually totally crazy that he's
[43:47] Speaker 1: even there questioning witnesses just because like this is exactly
[43:50] Speaker 1: what the other side will get thrown out in court
[43:53] Speaker 1: that you were like interfering in a like investigation when
[43:57] Speaker 1: you have a conflict of interest. But that's just me,
[44:00] Speaker 1: uh And he's not playing it like remotely cool at
[44:02] Speaker 1: all for the fact that he should not be on
[44:03] Speaker 1: the case, and Rollins points out like, well, these cases
[44:06] Speaker 1: aren't always black and white, like these are kids. There's
[44:08] Speaker 1: sexually inexperience, and then you add drinking into the mix,
[44:10] Speaker 1: like it's tough. And he's like, so what are you saying?
[44:13] Speaker 1: And she's like, let's take a look at the tribunal
[44:15] Speaker 1: tapes because I'm obviously not gonna be able to have
[44:16] Speaker 1: a rational conversation with you. So at the precinct they're
[44:20] Speaker 1: looking at a tape of a woman testifying and she's like,
[44:23] Speaker 1: I saw Ethan and Mia making out in the hallway,
[44:26] Speaker 1: and this is Hillary. She is the ra in MIA's
[44:28] Speaker 1: dorm and she says Ethan was aggressive. They went in
[44:32] Speaker 1: there with the door closed for an hour, and when
[44:36] Speaker 1: Ethan left, Hillary went to check to see if Mia
[44:38] Speaker 1: was okay, and she said she needed a minute. And
[44:41] Speaker 1: then she's they were like, so did she ever just
[44:42] Speaker 1: close to you? And she says, no, not to me.
[44:45] Speaker 1: She never just close to me that she'd been assaulted.
[44:46] Speaker 1: But maybe she told Andy Rayburn. He's her dorm neighbor.
[44:50] Speaker 1: And I saw him leaving MIA's room the next morning. So,
[44:54] Speaker 1: and I really love Benson's hair here. I just want
[44:57] Speaker 1: to stop and point it out. She's got like these
[44:58] Speaker 1: really pretty curtain bangs that I think I've like dreamed
[45:01] Speaker 1: that I can pull off, but I know that I can't.
[45:03] Speaker 1: And I really think she looks very pretty. None of
[45:06] Speaker 1: the squad has heard of Andy Raeburn, Like who is this,
[45:09] Speaker 1: Like how does he factor into the story? No, one's
[45:11] Speaker 1: brought him up. So now Robin's and finner in the dorm.
[45:14] Speaker 1: Hillary takes them to Andy's door. There's like loud music
[45:17] Speaker 1: playing behind the door. When Andy opens the door, he's
[45:19] Speaker 1: immediately giving douche like, immediately giving asshole like so quickly,
[45:23] Speaker 1: and he's holding a can.
[45:24] Speaker 3: I can't tell if it's beer.
[45:26] Speaker 1: It's pretty brazen if it is beer, because I don't
[45:28] Speaker 1: think any freshman dorms that exist allow alcohol.
[45:30] Speaker 3: So like, if a ra knocks on the door, you
[45:32] Speaker 3: got to hide that shit.
[45:34] Speaker 1: And Hillary says, they want to ask you about Mia,
[45:36] Speaker 1: and he goes, oh, why she's saying I raped her too?
[45:39] Speaker 1: And then the music swells like that's some big plot twist,
[45:42] Speaker 1: but I.
[45:42] Speaker 3: Think that's just a kid being a dick, and so
[45:45] Speaker 3: I don't get it.
[45:45] Speaker 1: But we do go to commercial and now Andy is
[45:48] Speaker 1: in cement room bars answering questions with a lawyer, and
[45:51] Speaker 1: he's like, look, Mia texted me that night that she
[45:54] Speaker 1: was depressed and needed to talk, how she was a
[45:56] Speaker 1: terrible person, how it was all her fault. So he
[45:59] Speaker 1: basically says she did disclosed to him. So they're like, well,
[46:01] Speaker 1: then why did you say that thing about her accusing
[46:03] Speaker 1: you of rape too? And he goes, I didn't do
[46:06] Speaker 1: anything me and I just stayed up all night talking.
[46:09] Speaker 1: I only said that because I knew she was accusing Ethan.
[46:11] Speaker 1: I freaked out when I found out you guys were cops.
[46:13] Speaker 1: And it's like you did. You looked extremely calm and
[46:15] Speaker 1: cocky the entire time, like you never if you were
[46:18] Speaker 1: freaking out. It was internal, He says. The campus investigator
[46:21] Speaker 1: never asked me if I was with Mia that night,
[46:23] Speaker 1: Like it seems like this guy was just totally omitted
[46:25] Speaker 1: from the entire investigation, and he goes, but I don't
[46:27] Speaker 1: know that she wasn't raped, Like I just think maybe
[46:29] Speaker 1: she didn't want to tell me, And then he says,
[46:31] Speaker 1: maybe she was just waiting to tweet me too about
[46:34] Speaker 1: it or write a short story for The New Yorker.
[46:36] Speaker 1: I'm kind of finding it hard to believe that this
[46:38] Speaker 1: is the guy that she needed to bring in for
[46:40] Speaker 1: the emotional support when after she's been sexually assaulted. This
[46:44] Speaker 1: guy seems like an asshole at a douche that would
[46:45] Speaker 1: probably be trying to make out with her the whole time.
[46:47] Speaker 1: And He's like, I used to think I understood girls,
[46:50] Speaker 1: but nobody understands them anymore. And it's like, I don't know,
[46:53] Speaker 1: It's like not that hard watching through the fish bowl glass.
[46:56] Speaker 1: Cariese's like, this doesn't mean she wasn't assaulted, but Stone's like,
[47:00] Speaker 1: you don't think she should have mentioned another male student
[47:02] Speaker 1: spending the night in her room, and Benson's like, look,
[47:05] Speaker 1: a lot of victims leave out parts of their story.
[47:07] Speaker 1: Chrisy said she was probably embarrassed, and Benson's like, you
[47:10] Speaker 1: just haven't prosecuted a lot of college age assaults, have you,
[47:13] Speaker 1: And he's like, no, this is my first one. And
[47:15] Speaker 1: I don't think that many people have because they mostly
[47:17] Speaker 1: get covered up by the schools, and girls don't come
[47:19] Speaker 1: forward because of social pressure.
[47:20] Speaker 3: Like there's not that.
[47:21] Speaker 1: Many adas that are like, oh, I've prosecuted so many
[47:24] Speaker 1: college rapes because like they do not go to trial
[47:26] Speaker 1: that often.
[47:26] Speaker 3: I would say.
[47:27] Speaker 1: He suggests that they talked to Hudson's investigator and then
[47:31] Speaker 1: he leaves. Crisy's like, great, we got the new guy
[47:33] Speaker 1: on my niece's case. It's like, dude, Barble wouldn't even
[47:37] Speaker 1: taken this one, so you should be thinking you're lucky
[47:38] Speaker 1: stars with stones even on the case. Back in the
[47:40] Speaker 1: pink bedroom, Me is telling Benson I didn't mention Andy
[47:44] Speaker 1: because I didn't want to seem like a slut. And
[47:46] Speaker 1: Benson's like, okay, but you know this isn't your fault,
[47:48] Speaker 1: like you told Andy, like you told Andy this was
[47:50] Speaker 1: all your fault. And Me is like, it is my fault.
[47:52] Speaker 1: I invited him to my room. And Benson's like that
[47:54] Speaker 1: doesn't matter, and She's like it does. My whole life,
[47:57] Speaker 1: I've tried to be good. I've tried to make people
[47:59] Speaker 1: happy and say what want to hear? And Benson's like,
[48:02] Speaker 1: are you saying you did that with Ethan, like you
[48:04] Speaker 1: told him what you wanted, what he wanted to hear,
[48:06] Speaker 1: and Me is like, I don't remember. And she's like,
[48:08] Speaker 1: I don't want to go to trial, but i'll I know,
[48:10] Speaker 1: I'll be letting my uncle down. And I should never
[48:13] Speaker 1: have told him anything. But she really didn't tell him anything.
[48:16] Speaker 1: Your mom did, Like so uh, Live closes her eyes
[48:19] Speaker 1: and shakes her head, like this is kind of messy, right,
[48:22] Speaker 1: And now we're talking to Teresa Cariesi, and we're talking
[48:25] Speaker 1: to Sonny and Lives like, you know, we believe Mia,
[48:30] Speaker 1: but a jury might not. And Teresa's like, this boy
[48:33] Speaker 1: raped her and he's just gonna get away with it.
[48:35] Speaker 1: And then she walks away and goes, thanks for nothing, Lieutenant,
[48:37] Speaker 1: and Cariese's like, sorry, my sister's very Italian, So I
[48:42] Speaker 1: like that little joke. Live says to Sonny, I think
[48:45] Speaker 1: Mia did go through a trauma, but I'm not sure
[48:48] Speaker 1: what happened in that dorm room was assault. And I
[48:50] Speaker 1: don't think she's so sure either, and she's just not
[48:53] Speaker 1: going to make a convincing witness. And Cariese's trying to
[48:56] Speaker 1: fight it, but Benson's like, unless the school knows something
[48:58] Speaker 1: we don't, we like may not have a care. So
[49:00] Speaker 1: now we're at Ethan's family's house again, and then and
[49:03] Speaker 1: Rollins are there to tell the family, Oh, good news,
[49:05] Speaker 1: the DA isn't pursuing charges. And the mom's like, oh,
[49:09] Speaker 1: did that girl admit that she lied? And Rollins says, no,
[49:12] Speaker 1: we're just saying we don't have enough evidence to pursue
[49:15] Speaker 1: a criminal case. And the mom wants the cops to
[49:17] Speaker 1: tell like the school will tell the school because.
[49:19] Speaker 3: They are still suspending him, and Rollins is like.
[49:22] Speaker 1: Well, you can appeal that, Like I'm not getting involved
[49:24] Speaker 1: with like the school politics, Like that's not really my deal.
[49:28] Speaker 1: And Ethan goes, I don't even want to go back there.
[49:30] Speaker 1: Everyone thinks I'm a rapist. And it's funny because it's like,
[49:35] Speaker 1: I don't think anyone. I don't think if there's a
[49:36] Speaker 1: situation where everyone would think he's a rapist, you would
[49:39] Speaker 1: definitely have a solid squad of men that were on
[49:41] Speaker 1: your side for sure. And he can't go back to
[49:44] Speaker 1: Hudson and he goes, no school will accept me when
[49:46] Speaker 1: they find out how I got how I left Hudson,
[49:50] Speaker 1: and he's like, sorry, mom, I guess I'm not going
[49:51] Speaker 1: to be a doctor anymore. So this is you know,
[49:55] Speaker 1: at this point you're kind of like, oh wow, this
[49:58] Speaker 1: could be a gray area thing, like kid's life is
[50:01] Speaker 1: getting like, you know, who knows what's happening here, right,
[50:04] Speaker 1: because nothing feels like it's like a hard truth yet
[50:07] Speaker 1: in this episode, So cut to Teresa stamping out her
[50:10] Speaker 1: sig in an ashtray in the middle of her kitchen,
[50:12] Speaker 1: windows closed. Okay, She's like, she's like pissed. She's like,
[50:17] Speaker 1: what do you mean He's not being charged? And then
[50:19] Speaker 1: he's explaining, look, we don't have enough evidence to go
[50:21] Speaker 1: to trial, and she's like he threatened her, and Cariese's like, well,
[50:24] Speaker 1: we could get a restraining order and she's like, I
[50:26] Speaker 1: want him in prison, and then she goes, why'd you
[50:28] Speaker 1: get involved if you couldn't help, and then Teresa CARESI
[50:31] Speaker 1: storms off, leaving Sonny with Mia, and then he asks,
[50:36] Speaker 1: are you gonna be okay? And she goes yeah, but
[50:39] Speaker 1: she also goes, I don't want Ethan going to prison,
[50:43] Speaker 1: and I also don't want a restraining order and he's like, yeah,
[50:47] Speaker 1: but he threatened you, and she's like, yeah, but he
[50:49] Speaker 1: was upset, and Careese's confused. He can tell that she's
[50:51] Speaker 1: like really hesitant in the way she's talking and like different,
[50:55] Speaker 1: and he's like, what's going on, and she's like, well,
[51:00] Speaker 1: what Ethan did? Like he did move too fast and
[51:02] Speaker 1: I wasn't ready and I didn't want to do it.
[51:06] Speaker 1: But then she admits I said yes. And then when
[51:10] Speaker 1: Renata asked her about him, she didn't want Renata to
[51:14] Speaker 1: be mad at her because they'd gone on a date,
[51:17] Speaker 1: so she told Renata that he raped her. That seems
[51:21] Speaker 1: like a really wild jump in the plot here. And
[51:25] Speaker 1: then she went to the Then Renata went to the
[51:28] Speaker 1: ra and the school got involved, and then I couldn't
[51:30] Speaker 1: take it back and I'm so sorry, and Cariese is incredulous.
[51:34] Speaker 1: He's like, are you telling me? Why do the school
[51:36] Speaker 1: took the police? And she says sorry, and he's like,
[51:39] Speaker 1: don't apologize to me. Apologize to Ethan because at this
[51:41] Speaker 1: point they're all like, wow, you've like ruined this kid's life.
[51:43] Speaker 1: You did say yes, that was consensual sex. And she
[51:46] Speaker 1: says she never thought it would go this far, that
[51:49] Speaker 1: he would get kicked out of school, and she's like
[51:52] Speaker 1: she's like, I ruined his life and I don't know
[51:54] Speaker 1: what to do. And it's like I sort of hate
[51:56] Speaker 1: that the show did this because like there are so
[51:59] Speaker 1: many cases that aren't black and white, but I think
[52:01] Speaker 1: it is so rare for a girl to make up
[52:03] Speaker 1: an allegation and then actually go through with reporting a
[52:06] Speaker 1: fake allegation, Like at any moment in the process with
[52:10] Speaker 1: the school, she could have just said I don't want
[52:12] Speaker 1: this to go to school tribunal. I don't feel comfortable,
[52:13] Speaker 1: and then it wouldn't have you know what I mean,
[52:15] Speaker 1: And like whatever, everybody could have just done dealt with
[52:18] Speaker 1: the rumor mill if they wanted to do.
[52:19] Speaker 2: It was even harder to do research on this because
[52:23] Speaker 2: it is a fucked up thing that happens that can
[52:26] Speaker 2: be acknowledged and talked about, but it's like it's used
[52:31] Speaker 2: and like as a tool to make it seem like
[52:33] Speaker 2: it happens equal amounts of time, right that the false
[52:37] Speaker 2: accusations happen, And it's like, I don't know, I just
[52:39] Speaker 2: think the lifelong effects of being raped might be longer
[52:43] Speaker 2: than being falsely accused, Like yeah, it's because we don't
[52:46] Speaker 2: acknowledge the lifelong like effect it can have on you.
[52:50] Speaker 2: So it's all this discussion of like ruining men's lives
[52:53] Speaker 2: with no discussion of like what an assault actually does
[52:56] Speaker 2: to the mind and body.
[52:57] Speaker 3: Right and happens so much more.
[53:00] Speaker 2: And so yeah, it's really it was tough to research
[53:03] Speaker 2: because the person did do something wrong, but it's tree
[53:08] Speaker 2: like she got more prison time the most rapists too.
[53:11] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[53:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, and so it's like it is really tough to
[53:15] Speaker 2: even talk about.
[53:16] Speaker 1: I would say, because I feel like they could have
[53:18] Speaker 1: made it. They could have kept it that was ambiguous,
[53:24] Speaker 1: of course, but they could have.
[53:25] Speaker 3: Kept it that it was ambiguous.
[53:26] Speaker 1: This stuff happens all the time, like where somebody doesn't
[53:28] Speaker 1: say no, but they don't say yes, but they're like frozen,
[53:31] Speaker 1: and that's still important to talk about. How that's not
[53:34] Speaker 1: enthusiastic consent, you know, Like and so I and I
[53:39] Speaker 1: just feel like she why did she tell Ranada he raped?
[53:41] Speaker 1: Like you could have just said, oh my god, yeah,
[53:43] Speaker 1: he like forced me to kiss him, and then we
[53:45] Speaker 1: like we like I kicked him out.
[53:46] Speaker 3: Like I don't know.
[53:47] Speaker 1: It's just like it's so wild that she would jump
[53:49] Speaker 1: to rape, thinking that that wouldn't even become a rumor,
[53:52] Speaker 1: even as a rumor. It could be detrimental rather like
[53:54] Speaker 1: even if she hadn't gone to the ra so like,
[53:57] Speaker 1: and I just don't think that this happens, like.
[54:00] Speaker 3: Like it happens.
[54:01] Speaker 1: Of course, everything can happen, but like, I don't think
[54:04] Speaker 1: it's common. And I think putting it in a television
[54:06] Speaker 1: episode like this makes it seems like it's the kind
[54:08] Speaker 1: of thing that happens all the time. And I think,
[54:11] Speaker 1: if you're going through a school tribunal, it's because you
[54:13] Speaker 1: do not feel comfortable being with this person on your
[54:16] Speaker 1: campus anymore, and that you have to. In this episode,
[54:19] Speaker 1: they're on cameras, so they actually want to be in
[54:21] Speaker 1: the same room. Most of the time, they have to
[54:23] Speaker 1: be in the same room as each other. You have
[54:24] Speaker 1: to go in the same room as your assaulter and
[54:27] Speaker 1: sit across a table from them and like say what
[54:29] Speaker 1: happened and then watch them like most of the time
[54:31] Speaker 1: walk off scot free, you know.
[54:33] Speaker 3: So anyway, I guess like that that's my point of SVU.
[54:38] Speaker 2: It's like they talk about all this stuff, but yeah,
[54:42] Speaker 2: it just makes it seem like it happens in the
[54:44] Speaker 2: same kind of way.
[54:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, often, and they do, like I guess they are
[54:49] Speaker 1: trying to set it up that she's like a people
[54:50] Speaker 1: pleaser and she tells people what they want to hear,
[54:52] Speaker 1: and that definitely is like a result of just like
[54:55] Speaker 1: generational misogyny that we all, like some of us have
[54:59] Speaker 1: inside of us of like, oh, just be polite and
[55:01] Speaker 1: do the thing that people want. But this feels like
[55:04] Speaker 1: she could have shut it down way sooner with no
[55:06] Speaker 1: repercussions and didn't, and they could have just focused on
[55:09] Speaker 1: the fact that these cases can be nebulous, like that's
[55:11] Speaker 1: what I was thinking. But anyway, Careesy like yells at
[55:14] Speaker 1: me and goes, you got to make this right. And
[55:16] Speaker 1: then like he calms down and he's like, you can
[55:19] Speaker 1: fix this. I know you can. It's gonna be okay,
[55:23] Speaker 1: but he doesn't tell her how. So now back at
[55:25] Speaker 1: the precinct, Rollins is trying to tell Cares, you know,
[55:30] Speaker 1: like we can keep investigating, and it's like, Rollins, what
[55:33] Speaker 1: kind of budget?
[55:34] Speaker 5: I mean?
[55:34] Speaker 1: I know the NYPD is working on actually an insane
[55:37] Speaker 1: budget that's like the defense budget of multiple countries put together,
[55:40] Speaker 1: But like, I don't think they're gonna keep investigating this case,
[55:43] Speaker 1: like you know what I mean, Like there's not going
[55:45] Speaker 1: to be sudden evidence that like a video from the room,
[55:47] Speaker 1: like I don't think anything's gonna pop up, and he's like, well,
[55:50] Speaker 1: either way, my sister's probably never gonna talk to me again.
[55:53] Speaker 1: And then he gets a phone call and we can
[55:55] Speaker 1: tell it's Mia and she's freaking out but won't say why,
[55:58] Speaker 1: and he goes, stay right there and he goes to
[56:00] Speaker 1: meet her and Rollin's like, I'm coming with so he's like,
[56:03] Speaker 1: I gotta go.
[56:03] Speaker 3: She's like, I gotta go meet my future family.
[56:05] Speaker 1: So when they go to the dorm, Renata is in
[56:09] Speaker 1: the hallway going Mia was raped again, but won't tell
[56:12] Speaker 1: her who did it. And then when they get into
[56:14] Speaker 1: the dorm room, MIA's on the bed like curled up, upset, tears,
[56:18] Speaker 1: and she says she needs to talk to Carisy alone,
[56:21] Speaker 1: and Mia goes, I tried to make it right. I
[56:24] Speaker 1: asked Ethan to come over. I apologize, but he said
[56:27] Speaker 1: it was too late and he pushed me on the
[56:28] Speaker 1: bed and raped me. And when it was over, he said,
[56:31] Speaker 1: now you know what rape really feels like. And Caresee
[56:33] Speaker 1: looks stunned like he knows he kind of had a
[56:37] Speaker 1: hand in this happening. It's like, why didn't you talk
[56:39] Speaker 1: to her about how to make it right. You just
[56:41] Speaker 1: trusted that an eighteen year old was going to like
[56:43] Speaker 1: go do that and not put herself in harm's way,
[56:45] Speaker 1: Like you should have discussed like what the plan was
[56:48] Speaker 1: going to be to make it right, like go to
[56:49] Speaker 1: the school, Like you don't have to invite him to
[56:51] Speaker 1: a closed space with a bed in it, you know.
[56:54] Speaker 1: And MIA's like, I tried to do what you said.
[56:56] Speaker 1: I tried, and now no one will believe me, and
[56:58] Speaker 1: Caresee's like, yes they will, Yes they will, because we're
[57:01] Speaker 1: not going to say anything about what really happened the
[57:03] Speaker 1: first time. Uh oh, we see how much Carisie's family
[57:06] Speaker 1: meets to him, because he's really not a rule bender,
[57:08] Speaker 1: I would say most of the time. And he's like
[57:12] Speaker 1: basically hatching a plan to make sure that Mia gets justice,
[57:16] Speaker 1: but it might be a sort of a stabler way
[57:19] Speaker 1: of going about things. You know. Mia is crying, He's
[57:22] Speaker 1: saying I'm sorry, like I don't like where this is going.
[57:25] Speaker 1: So top of act three, Hell, yes, it's the legendary
[57:28] Speaker 1: Susie Sman and she's playing defense attorney Arlene Heller, who
[57:32] Speaker 1: I will refer to as Arlene henceforth. She's in four
[57:35] Speaker 1: episodes as this character and this is her final one
[57:38] Speaker 1: and she's defending Ethan. Why not more, I don't know,
[57:42] Speaker 1: maybe her curb schedule, she wasn't going to be in
[57:44] Speaker 1: New York.
[57:45] Speaker 3: I don't know more, Susie s men.
[57:47] Speaker 1: I know she's great.
[57:48] Speaker 3: We can bring her back anytime.
[57:49] Speaker 1: I mean, this is season nineteen, she's only been gone
[57:51] Speaker 1: for a few seasons. And like in the last episode,
[57:54] Speaker 1: I forget what it is, but Larry heller Is is
[57:57] Speaker 1: the person and it's like her nephew. So she's like,
[58:00] Speaker 1: how dare you you know, like, and she's she brings
[58:02] Speaker 1: the comedy to this episode. I'll say that, so so
[58:05] Speaker 1: Stone and Finn uh sit down with them and our
[58:07] Speaker 1: leans like my clientby comedy. But she's also a fucking bitch.
[58:11] Speaker 3: Oh she is. She is, but she's got some like
[58:13] Speaker 3: one liners.
[58:14] Speaker 1: You know, she's a bitch, she's she's she's expensive, she's
[58:17] Speaker 1: a Buchanan, she's a rita, you know, Like she's up
[58:19] Speaker 1: there with them, and uh, she's like, my client's innocent
[58:23] Speaker 1: and he's like, I didn't rape me. We had consensual
[58:26] Speaker 1: sex both times, and she's setting me up and Stone
[58:28] Speaker 1: is like, why would she do that the school found
[58:30] Speaker 1: you responsible And he's like, well, maybe she's pissed that
[58:32] Speaker 1: I'm not getting prison time.
[58:33] Speaker 3: She texted me and asked me to come over.
[58:36] Speaker 1: And Stone's like, so you went behind closed doors with
[58:38] Speaker 1: a girl who falsely accused you, you claim falsely accused you.
[58:42] Speaker 1: And Arleen's like, yeah, so he's an idiot, but not
[58:44] Speaker 1: a rapist. And Ethan says Mia said she wanted to
[58:47] Speaker 1: have sex with him and felt bad, So now this
[58:50] Speaker 1: is apology sex Like, this is confusing, Stone says, I'm
[58:54] Speaker 1: new to SVU, but I get that no one confesses
[58:56] Speaker 1: to rape. It's too easy to deny it or say
[58:58] Speaker 1: that somebody else wanted it. I'm waiting for the story
[59:01] Speaker 1: that makes me believe you over her. You were angry,
[59:04] Speaker 1: you made a mistake, and you did something you regret.
[59:06] Speaker 1: And Arlene's like, yeah, nice, try bye bye. If he's
[59:08] Speaker 1: not under arrest, we're out of here. So they leave,
[59:11] Speaker 1: and Stone is worried that the jury might not believe
[59:13] Speaker 1: Mia since she doesn't remember the first assault. And now
[59:16] Speaker 1: we're at four Leanie's, which is the gang's favorite white
[59:19] Speaker 1: tablecloth restaurant, and Live and Stone are meeting, but live,
[59:23] Speaker 1: can't stay for dinner, and you know, Stone just starts
[59:25] Speaker 1: immediately blowing sunshine up er ass, like, wow, you're just
[59:28] Speaker 1: like so impressive. You're a lieutenant and a single mom.
[59:31] Speaker 1: That's like a level of energy I can't even imagine,
[59:33] Speaker 1: and you just make it look effortless. And she's like, Okay,
[59:36] Speaker 1: like enough flattery, Let's get to the case. And then
[59:39] Speaker 1: she's like, I think me is telling the truth. She's like,
[59:42] Speaker 1: she may have been unclear the first time, but the
[59:44] Speaker 1: second time, I believe her. And Stone says, well, she's
[59:46] Speaker 1: still an imperfect witness, and Benson's like, well, welcome to SVU.
[59:51] Speaker 1: She gives him yet another review of how there are
[59:54] Speaker 1: no perfect witnesses or rape victims, and that victims omit
[59:57] Speaker 1: parts of their story all the time. They ca can't
[1:00:00] Speaker 1: remember things, they change their minds, they feel guilty, they
[1:00:02] Speaker 1: blame themselves. The less perfect they are, the harder we
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: fight for them. No One asks a robbery or a
[1:00:07] Speaker 1: homicide victim if she wanted it, and a homicide victim
[1:00:10] Speaker 1: would not be able to answer you, but I understand
[1:00:11] Speaker 1: what she's saying. Nobody asks what was she wearing? Why
[1:00:15] Speaker 1: was she walking in a dark alley, nobody implies that
[1:00:18] Speaker 1: the crime was her fault. Stone is just used to
[1:00:20] Speaker 1: having more evidence before trial and lives like, you have
[1:00:23] Speaker 1: her word. We go to trial so the victim can
[1:00:26] Speaker 1: be heard, can tell her truth, and the truth is
[1:00:28] Speaker 1: what heals. If you're going to trial because you want
[1:00:30] Speaker 1: to win, you're in the wrong place. It's like they
[1:00:32] Speaker 1: still have like a pretty high closure rate. I gotta
[1:00:34] Speaker 1: be honest and guilty rate, I would say. But back
[1:00:37] Speaker 1: in MIA's room, the pink walls, it's dark now, Okay,
[1:00:41] Speaker 1: I don't know if that's I don't know if that's
[1:00:44] Speaker 1: like symbolic, but you can't really see the butterfly very
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: well anymore. Cariese's telling her that Ethan's being arraigned and
[1:00:50] Speaker 1: if he doesn't make a deal, this will go to
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: trial and Mia will have to testify. And she's like, well,
[1:00:55] Speaker 1: what if they ask me about the first time I lied?
[1:00:58] Speaker 1: And he's like, well, I'm not asking you to perjure
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: your but if nobody asks, don't volunteer. And it's like,
[1:01:03] Speaker 1: first of all, they're going to ask, and you know
[1:01:05] Speaker 1: who's definitely gonna ask, Arlene Heller, like she's going to ask,
[1:01:09] Speaker 1: and so it's like, at least, if you're gonna lie,
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: think of a way to tell her an answer that's
[1:01:14] Speaker 1: kind of like.
[1:01:15] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really you're right.
[1:01:16] Speaker 2: He has like way too much like, yeah, you'll figure
[1:01:19] Speaker 2: it out, Yeah, you'll be good on the stand.
[1:01:21] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you are. You are asking her to commit
[1:01:24] Speaker 3: a crime action.
[1:01:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, and she's a kid like and if it's like
[1:01:26] Speaker 1: she doesn't.
[1:01:28] Speaker 2: And she trusts you, and you're truly giving her the
[1:01:29] Speaker 2: worst advice ever, which is to perjure herself.
[1:01:32] Speaker 1: And like, I think that it's still easy to say
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: I don't remember if I gave consent like I guess
[1:01:39] Speaker 1: she does, that's still a lie. But anyway she's she
[1:01:43] Speaker 1: could still say I'm drunk, I don't remember everything clearly.
[1:01:45] Speaker 1: But that's not saying she doesn't remember the yes. It's
[1:01:47] Speaker 1: just not saying that she does remember the yes.
[1:01:49] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[1:01:50] Speaker 1: Now I'm trying to help somebody figure out how to
[1:01:52] Speaker 1: lie on the stand. I don't know where I'm going
[1:01:53] Speaker 1: with this. She asks CARIESI am I a bad person,
[1:01:56] Speaker 1: and he's like, of course not. And he tells her
[1:01:58] Speaker 1: about the first time he met her as a baby,
[1:02:00] Speaker 1: how even at three months old, she was a people pleaser.
[1:02:03] Speaker 1: I'm not sure who she was trying to please in
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: this scenario, like the roommate, Like who was she trying
[1:02:08] Speaker 1: to please? Like the roommate was like, please tell me
[1:02:10] Speaker 1: he raped you, Like I don't understand.
[1:02:12] Speaker 2: Why she didn't want to have sex with him, but said, yes.
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: Yes, I think that's for sure true. But then like
[1:02:21] Speaker 1: who are you trying to people please with? Like the
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: court and the tribunal and all that, you know, just
[1:02:26] Speaker 1: giving everyone the answers they want. Yeah, Cariese says, he
[1:02:30] Speaker 1: promises he's not gonna let anything bad happen, and he leaves.
[1:02:32] Speaker 3: He goes downstairs.
[1:02:33] Speaker 1: He swipes a cigarette right out of Teresa Careesi's hand,
[1:02:36] Speaker 1: and he's like, will you stop it with this, and
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: she's like, I'm a nervous wreck and it's your fault.
[1:02:40] Speaker 1: We never should have gone after Ethan and gotten the
[1:02:42] Speaker 1: police involved. Now my daughter has been raped twice. And
[1:02:44] Speaker 1: he says, Mia will get through it, but she's like,
[1:02:47] Speaker 1: just fix it.
[1:02:48] Speaker 3: You gotta fix it.
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: And then she's like crying and upset and she's he's
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: hugging her and she's crying on his shoulder and we
[1:02:54] Speaker 1: go to commercial. So now we're in court and Mia
[1:02:56] Speaker 1: is on the stand, and she said, maybe it was stupid,
[1:03:00] Speaker 1: but I thought we should talk. I texted Ethan asked
[1:03:02] Speaker 1: him to come over to my dorm room. I never
[1:03:04] Speaker 1: thought there were so many people there, she says. So
[1:03:07] Speaker 1: I think she didn't do it in a totally like
[1:03:10] Speaker 1: stupid thing like I was saying before, like there are
[1:03:12] Speaker 1: people around. She doesn't think he has the balls to
[1:03:15] Speaker 1: like shut the door and sexually assault her with all
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: these people in the hallways. But I guess, yeah, that's
[1:03:20] Speaker 1: what happened. So when he got there, he was mad.
[1:03:23] Speaker 1: He said I was being selfish and ruining his life.
[1:03:25] Speaker 1: He said, if my life is going down the toilet,
[1:03:27] Speaker 1: I'm taking you with me. Then she describes that he
[1:03:29] Speaker 1: pushes her down on the bed, pulls her sweats down,
[1:03:32] Speaker 1: and holds a pillow over her face so she couldn't scream.
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: Like that's a pretty specific detail for somebody to just
[1:03:39] Speaker 1: make up, you know, like that somebody was essentially trying
[1:03:42] Speaker 1: to I don't know, smother you while they were you know,
[1:03:46] Speaker 1: raping you, and you're trying to say that it's like consensual.
[1:03:49] Speaker 1: And so now it's Arlene Heller's turn and she goes,
[1:03:52] Speaker 1: I want to talk about the first time you cried
[1:03:54] Speaker 1: rape and stone objects And she withdraws, and she goes,
[1:03:57] Speaker 1: do you think a year's suspension is sufficient punishment for
[1:04:00] Speaker 1: what you claim Ethan did to you? She goes, I
[1:04:02] Speaker 1: don't know. The police thought he should go to prison.
[1:04:04] Speaker 1: Arlene's like, and that would be your uncle, Detective Dominant KREESI, Like,
[1:04:08] Speaker 1: she's bringing in all the reasonable doubt, basically as much
[1:04:11] Speaker 1: as she can. And did uncle dom look into your case? Yes,
[1:04:14] Speaker 1: and they found there wasn't enough evidence. And then Arlene
[1:04:17] Speaker 1: starts like clowning the tribunal, like, oh really, two English professors,
[1:04:21] Speaker 1: an adjunct sociology professor, and a grad student in medieval
[1:04:25] Speaker 1: music thought he was guilty, which is which is funny.
[1:04:31] Speaker 1: I mean that is the thing about these tribunals. It's
[1:04:33] Speaker 1: like what gives you any like professionalism. It's not like
[1:04:38] Speaker 1: it's like the school counselor that's on this board or
[1:04:40] Speaker 1: like you know that like the head of campus safety
[1:04:43] Speaker 1: or people that deal with this all the time. It's
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: literally will just be like me, Kara klink, a fucking
[1:04:48] Speaker 1: theater major, You're on the board.
[1:04:50] Speaker 3: Like that makes no sense.
[1:04:52] Speaker 1: So she starts going, well, the like they thought he
[1:04:56] Speaker 1: was guilty, so they had to toss his ass, and
[1:04:58] Speaker 1: then Stone objects the judge she's out of line, and
[1:05:01] Speaker 1: she goes, a bunch of unqualified eggheads ruined this kid's
[1:05:04] Speaker 1: life on evidence that couldn't pass a motion to dismiss
[1:05:06] Speaker 1: in real court. I think the line was erased a
[1:05:08] Speaker 1: long time ago. Okay, Arlene work. I mean, like, he
[1:05:12] Speaker 1: is guilty, but I think she's good. The judge egghead
[1:05:15] Speaker 1: is just funny. Yeah eggheads wait outs like four yeah right,
[1:05:21] Speaker 1: It's like a little bit more professional than dork uh
[1:05:24] Speaker 1: or nerd. The judge threatens her with contempt and so
[1:05:27] Speaker 1: she moves on, and then she goes, you wanted him
[1:05:29] Speaker 1: to go to prison, didn't you, Mia, And me is
[1:05:31] Speaker 1: like I don't know, and she's like, of course you did.
[1:05:33] Speaker 1: Don't you think the punishment should fit the crime he
[1:05:35] Speaker 1: violated you? For Christ's sake, he should get worse than
[1:05:38] Speaker 1: living at home and eating mommy's pancakes. And then she goes,
[1:05:41] Speaker 1: you wanted to make sure he spent many many years
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: behind bars, which is why you invited him over, slept
[1:05:45] Speaker 1: with him, and then cried rape. It happened once who
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: wouldn't believe you a second time, Certainly not your uncle,
[1:05:51] Speaker 1: the detective. She's basically like, yeah, blasting all the reasonable
[1:05:54] Speaker 1: doubt out of a cannon right now. And the judge
[1:05:56] Speaker 1: has had it and he finds her fifteen hundred dollars,
[1:05:59] Speaker 1: which we see threatened all the time, but we almost
[1:06:01] Speaker 1: never see it acted on. So I was excited to
[1:06:03] Speaker 1: see someone finally get a contempt charge, you know. And
[1:06:05] Speaker 1: Arlene says, small price to pay for ruining a boy's life,
[1:06:08] Speaker 1: and then he ups the charge to two thousand. I
[1:06:10] Speaker 1: have a feeling that's not going to be a problem
[1:06:11] Speaker 1: for Arlene. I think she's got the funds. But now
[1:06:15] Speaker 1: Careese is on the stand and he's describing how he
[1:06:18] Speaker 1: took me a statement and took her to the hospital
[1:06:20] Speaker 1: where her rape kit showed forcible penetration and the DNA
[1:06:23] Speaker 1: that matched Ethan.
[1:06:26] Speaker 3: Was like, also matched. Okay.
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: So then Arlene gets a turn with Careesy and she's like, yeah,
[1:06:31] Speaker 1: you felt terrible the first time this happened, and you
[1:06:32] Speaker 1: couldn't arrest the guy.
[1:06:34] Speaker 3: If you had, it wouldn't have happened again, right, And she.
[1:06:37] Speaker 1: Goes, well, we're the physical results of the rape kit
[1:06:39] Speaker 1: similar in both cases, but he clarifies that the school
[1:06:42] Speaker 1: never did a medical examination, which is yeah, like normal
[1:06:45] Speaker 1: that like schools don't do that. She asks, okay, well
[1:06:48] Speaker 1: was she curled up in a ball shivering, which she
[1:06:51] Speaker 1: kind of was after the second attack, and Crisy said, well,
[1:06:54] Speaker 1: no one said that. She was like, they're going all
[1:06:55] Speaker 1: off of hearsay here from witnesses that aren't there. And
[1:06:58] Speaker 1: then Arlene's like, oh, just because it was the same guy,
[1:07:01] Speaker 1: same physical assault, And then they object and it's withdrawn
[1:07:04] Speaker 1: and it's like, why are you acting like her physical
[1:07:07] Speaker 1: reaction to both attacks would be identical. It's like a
[1:07:10] Speaker 1: crazy it's a it's a crazy thing to say, but
[1:07:13] Speaker 1: I guess jury's also don't always know that that would
[1:07:16] Speaker 1: make no sense. And she's like, did your niece describe
[1:07:20] Speaker 1: the attacks to you in the same way? And like
[1:07:22] Speaker 1: why would she describe the attacks in the exact same way?
[1:07:25] Speaker 1: And Caresee is quiet, Like I think he could have
[1:07:27] Speaker 1: just said no, she didn't, you know, I think it
[1:07:30] Speaker 1: would have been also okay to say the first attack
[1:07:33] Speaker 1: was more of a consensual hookup that went too far,
[1:07:37] Speaker 1: and the second attack was a literally like a rape,
[1:07:41] Speaker 1: one rape like with us. I would say assault with
[1:07:43] Speaker 1: a deadly weapon if you're using a pillow to smother someone.
[1:07:46] Speaker 3: Caresee is quiet.
[1:07:47] Speaker 1: He can't answer, and then she goes, well, can you
[1:07:50] Speaker 1: tell us what me I told you about the first rape?
[1:07:51] Speaker 1: And he's silent again, and you can tell this is
[1:07:54] Speaker 1: like Caresee's big moral conundrum moment, and he goes.
[1:07:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, but fuck that because he likes his niece.
[1:08:01] Speaker 2: I don't know why did he tell her to do
[1:08:03] Speaker 2: that if he wasn't gonna stick with it?
[1:08:04] Speaker 1: Sorry, I interrupted before he said what happened. No, it's fine,
[1:08:08] Speaker 1: it's fine. He says, there was no first rape. He
[1:08:10] Speaker 1: fully admits to everything. But it's like, at this point,
[1:08:13] Speaker 1: I understand you shouldn't lie if stuff is like but
[1:08:17] Speaker 1: you told her to lie? Yeah, but if stuff is like,
[1:08:21] Speaker 1: you know, really nebulous like that, But in this case,
[1:08:23] Speaker 1: it's like we know. He keep back a second time
[1:08:25] Speaker 1: and said to her, now, you know what, really being
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: rape feels like, like he's done all this horrible shit.
[1:08:30] Speaker 1: Now I don't think it's like I don't know, I
[1:08:33] Speaker 1: don't really know why the first one kind of even
[1:08:35] Speaker 1: matters as much anymore as if like, even if she
[1:08:38] Speaker 1: did fully say, hey, I made it up for fun.
[1:08:40] Speaker 1: It would warrant him raping her the second time, you
[1:08:42] Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like, that's not warranted. So Arlene's like,
[1:08:45] Speaker 1: so me alied to the school tribunal, to the officers,
[1:08:49] Speaker 1: to this court, and Carisi goes yeah, and then Arlene goes,
[1:08:52] Speaker 1: I'm done.
[1:08:53] Speaker 3: We can all go home now. It's wild.
[1:08:55] Speaker 1: It's a wild confesson for CARIESI on the stand at
[1:08:58] Speaker 1: the precinct, Benson walked pissed. She's like, Crisey my office now,
[1:09:02] Speaker 1: and then she's like, what the hell were you thinking?
[1:09:03] Speaker 1: And he's like, she's my niece and lives like, well,
[1:09:06] Speaker 1: then you should have been she should have been honest
[1:09:08] Speaker 1: with you from the beginning, and she reminds him that
[1:09:10] Speaker 1: in these cases, the credibility of the witness is all
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: that matters, and me is basically at zero, which is
[1:09:16] Speaker 1: like also a flip for Olivia. Olivia is also like
[1:09:18] Speaker 1: no one's ever at a hundred, Like I know, she's
[1:09:21] Speaker 1: like less credible now, but you're saying, like, oh, she
[1:09:23] Speaker 1: should have been honest with you from the beginning, But
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: aren't these things always are people changing their stories and
[1:09:27] Speaker 1: feeling guilt and like everything you've already said about victims,
[1:09:30] Speaker 1: so I don't know, but she's pissed.
[1:09:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, she's mad.
[1:09:33] Speaker 1: Now. Cariesy then goes to the bar and finds Stone
[1:09:36] Speaker 1: and I think this is like where they always meet
[1:09:37] Speaker 1: because there's like fun, colorful lights behind the bottles, and
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: he expects Stone to be pissed at him, but Stone's like, now,
[1:09:43] Speaker 1: it's good you told the truth. Everyone has family secrets.
[1:09:45] Speaker 1: You spoke up when it counted. And then Cariese's like,
[1:09:48] Speaker 1: you're not such a bad guy.
[1:09:49] Speaker 3: For a lawyer.
[1:09:49] Speaker 1: Like they're definitely letting you know. Stone is fitting in.
[1:09:52] Speaker 1: Now people are liking Stone. So now Cariese's like, can
[1:09:56] Speaker 1: we have a drink? And Stone's like sure, and he's like, yeah,
[1:09:59] Speaker 1: I need to like wash away this guilt. And Stone's like, listen,
[1:10:02] Speaker 1: my dad's last thought before he died was probably I
[1:10:05] Speaker 1: should have opposed that damn motion to exclude. Like his
[1:10:07] Speaker 1: dad was all about work up until the end. And
[1:10:09] Speaker 1: he's like, oh, are you're worried that's gonna be you
[1:10:11] Speaker 1: And he goes, look, I want to do the right thing,
[1:10:13] Speaker 1: and winning feels good, but there's got to be more.
[1:10:16] Speaker 1: That's what Stone says, So back in court. Now Ethan
[1:10:19] Speaker 1: is on the stand. I'm like surprised that this keeps
[1:10:21] Speaker 1: going after that big admission, but like this keep the click.
[1:10:24] Speaker 3: Case moves on.
[1:10:26] Speaker 1: Ethan is on the stand, saying that he and Mia
[1:10:28] Speaker 1: were both crying and she said that he could handle
[1:10:32] Speaker 1: it and she couldn't. She said he was strong and
[1:10:34] Speaker 1: she wasn't. Then she kissed him and led him to
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: the bed. And then like Arlene goes up bit of
[1:10:40] Speaker 1: the old consolation sex and there's an objection, and Ethan
[1:10:43] Speaker 1: admits he slept with her and says she did.
[1:10:45] Speaker 3: Not bite him off. It was her idea. Now he
[1:10:47] Speaker 3: knows why.
[1:10:49] Speaker 1: And it was also she could claim he raped her,
[1:10:50] Speaker 1: and this time she would have evidence and her uncle
[1:10:52] Speaker 1: could lead the charge. And he's like, I don't know
[1:10:56] Speaker 1: what I did, do you, Mia? But I don't deserve
[1:10:57] Speaker 1: this and Mia looks furious. Stone's turn and he asks Ethan, like, so,
[1:11:02] Speaker 1: what were you studying in college?
[1:11:03] Speaker 3: He says pre med.
[1:11:04] Speaker 1: He was going to be a neurosurgeon, but that's all
[1:11:06] Speaker 1: gone now, and he goes, oh, you don't think you'll
[1:11:08] Speaker 1: be acquitted, and he goes, doesn't really matter. I'm already
[1:11:10] Speaker 1: wearing the scarlet R. Friends won't talk to me. I
[1:11:13] Speaker 1: applied to six places since I got kicked out. None
[1:11:16] Speaker 1: of them are taking me. I got a seven hundred
[1:11:17] Speaker 1: on my essatmy.
[1:11:18] Speaker 2: That's what's annoying about this too, where it's like it
[1:11:21] Speaker 2: actually doesn't hurt. That's not believable.
[1:11:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, we wouldn't let the man or he couldn't do
[1:11:26] Speaker 1: anything like that shit I.
[1:11:28] Speaker 3: Went around with a scarlet R.
[1:11:30] Speaker 1: It's like we all know people who have ripped people
[1:11:32] Speaker 1: and they don't walk around with a scarlet R.
[1:11:34] Speaker 3: Like some people say, oh, that guy's a rapist, like
[1:11:36] Speaker 3: p did he has people out there being like Celevia
[1:11:39] Speaker 3: Justice for pay Didy. Yeah, like it's.
[1:11:44] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what's unbelievable at this moment, Like he probably
[1:11:49] Speaker 2: will wait again.
[1:11:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, like this guy, this kid could not go to
[1:11:53] Speaker 1: college for a year, probably reapply and no one will
[1:11:56] Speaker 1: notice anymore. That that's you know, like and he'll be
[1:11:58] Speaker 1: back in college. But but he goes. Once the PC
[1:12:01] Speaker 1: police get their fangs into you, it's over. And that's
[1:12:04] Speaker 1: like really kind of I feel like what this episode
[1:12:06] Speaker 1: is trying to shit on a little bit is these
[1:12:08] Speaker 1: boys that have these like you know, the anti PC
[1:12:11] Speaker 1: like people and this is like, again, what this episode's
[1:12:14] Speaker 1: from what twenty eighteen? I guess we were that was
[1:12:17] Speaker 1: around me too, and that was around Uh. Woke is
[1:12:20] Speaker 1: starting to get a bad connotation and this and that,
[1:12:23] Speaker 1: But yeah, what were you gonna say?
[1:12:24] Speaker 2: And that's another thing that's not real. Even whoa you
[1:12:28] Speaker 2: can't say anything, you can say everything, yeah, or even
[1:12:31] Speaker 2: like the Sydney Sweeney At it's like, oh, these woke people.
[1:12:34] Speaker 1: It's like it's not it. It leans Nazi. I don't
[1:12:38] Speaker 1: know there are historical context. I'm not like overly sense it.
[1:12:42] Speaker 1: I'm not offended by it.
[1:12:44] Speaker 2: I'm just like, wow, we're a Nazi fascist world, and
[1:12:47] Speaker 2: that's what's gonna be happening. The hill House dresses, the
[1:12:51] Speaker 2: trad it's all the same thing. It's the country, it's
[1:12:54] Speaker 2: the patriot Like, I don't know why the context of
[1:12:57] Speaker 2: what this is. I'm not offended, but I know that
[1:13:00] Speaker 2: it's a sign of fascism.
[1:13:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, Like free speech is about not going to jail
[1:13:06] Speaker 1: for what you say, Like you're not no one ever
[1:13:07] Speaker 1: said you could say whatever you want in this country
[1:13:10] Speaker 1: with impune that will end And guess what the people
[1:13:13] Speaker 1: that yell about woke NPC are not going to care
[1:13:17] Speaker 1: when the people that speak out against this administration you
[1:13:20] Speaker 1: get in trouble.
[1:13:21] Speaker 3: Yeah allah Colbert, Right, no one's saying that.
[1:13:26] Speaker 1: No one's coming to talk about Colbert. What I was
[1:13:30] Speaker 1: gonna say is, for some reason, we didn't mention that
[1:13:32] Speaker 1: this girl has been in multiple sviews. Oh so she
[1:13:36] Speaker 1: plays this character again in a later season. But she's
[1:13:39] Speaker 1: from Daddy DearS, She's from the fucking James Vanderbeet And
[1:13:42] Speaker 1: this actress I should have mentioned earlier. The one that's
[1:13:44] Speaker 1: playing Mia is named Ryan Shane, and she's in Banshee
[1:13:48] Speaker 1: and a bunch of other stuff, and she is uh
[1:13:52] Speaker 1: in another SVU. She's in Daddy Dearest, which Lisa points
[1:13:56] Speaker 1: it out is the James Vanderbeet episode. And then she
[1:13:58] Speaker 1: also comes back as Mia A again in Promising Young Gentleman,
[1:14:02] Speaker 1: a season twenty three episode. I think this actress is great,
[1:14:06] Speaker 1: but I just don't think she looks like Carisi or
[1:14:08] Speaker 1: Teresa CARESI like they just she's got like a freckly look.
[1:14:12] Speaker 1: She just doesn't have the Italian thing going on. But
[1:14:14] Speaker 1: I think she's very talented, and that's huge. I mean,
[1:14:19] Speaker 1: an SVU three episode girly. Yeah, yeah, so anyway, this
[1:14:26] Speaker 1: guy is like, you know, oh, like the PC police
[1:14:30] Speaker 1: are gonna get you. And then it's all over all.
[1:14:32] Speaker 1: It takes is one girls to say, girl to say
[1:14:34] Speaker 1: you looked at her funny, but he's like, but you
[1:14:37] Speaker 1: did more than that, and he goes why because she
[1:14:38] Speaker 1: said so. He's like the first night we were in
[1:14:40] Speaker 1: it together, even her uncle said I didn't rape her.
[1:14:43] Speaker 1: And then Stone realizes like, I'm gonna start gassing this
[1:14:45] Speaker 1: kid up. This kid's like a fucking socio, like even
[1:14:48] Speaker 1: if he didn't do anything wrong the first time, like,
[1:14:50] Speaker 1: he's crazy. And he was like, you were railroaded and
[1:14:52] Speaker 1: the bleeding hearts didn't believe you and you were pissed
[1:14:54] Speaker 1: about it, and he's like, damn right, they wouldn't know
[1:14:57] Speaker 1: the truth.
[1:14:57] Speaker 3: Truth of it slapped them in the face.
[1:14:59] Speaker 1: And then and he's like, and then you went to
[1:15:01] Speaker 1: me as the second night you planned to tell her
[1:15:02] Speaker 1: how pissed you were, and Arlene objects, but the judge
[1:15:05] Speaker 1: over rules it's like, I guess you shouldn't have been
[1:15:06] Speaker 1: such a bit the judges and not on your side, Arlene.
[1:15:09] Speaker 1: And now he's like he just lets Ethan go on
[1:15:11] Speaker 1: this fucking ramp where he's like, fuck the school, fuck
[1:15:14] Speaker 1: their honor code.
[1:15:15] Speaker 3: They don't know shit about honor. I was labeled a rapist.
[1:15:17] Speaker 3: What the hell?
[1:15:18] Speaker 1: I might as well be a rapist, okay, And he's like,
[1:15:21] Speaker 1: and who better to rape than me? And Marino is
[1:15:22] Speaker 1: what Stone says, and the guy goes, that's right. The
[1:15:24] Speaker 1: bitch ruined me, and I got to ruin her. And
[1:15:26] Speaker 1: it's like, I don't know. I just like don't know
[1:15:29] Speaker 1: if you get really get people to fucking blow up
[1:15:31] Speaker 1: on the stand like that and like like truly admit
[1:15:34] Speaker 1: to everything. Like I could see this guy saying this
[1:15:37] Speaker 1: to his friends and then getting him on tape. I
[1:15:39] Speaker 1: don't know if he's like doing it right in front
[1:15:41] Speaker 1: of his pricey lawyer and his parents. But then you know,
[1:15:44] Speaker 1: next scene, very unsupprised, he's like, you do have it
[1:15:47] Speaker 1: in Yeah you are a rapist? Yeah yeah, yeah it
[1:15:50] Speaker 1: was there. And also it's like yes, maybe she like
[1:15:54] Speaker 1: said the word yes, but like like this is a
[1:15:57] Speaker 1: boy that was not taught to like look at your
[1:15:59] Speaker 1: partner's and see if they're having a good time. Because
[1:16:01] Speaker 1: I bet you that Mia Marino did it look like
[1:16:04] Speaker 1: she was having a good time. So then very unsurprisingly,
[1:16:08] Speaker 1: the verdict is read out loud by the jury foreman
[1:16:10] Speaker 1: and it is guilty because he just confessed on the
[1:16:12] Speaker 1: stand again Like, I don't even know why we're going
[1:16:14] Speaker 1: to the but somehow, so, somehow, the squad still won
[1:16:17] Speaker 1: what seemed like an impossible case. And we hear Arlene
[1:16:22] Speaker 1: say to the guy to Ethan, it's okay, will appeal
[1:16:25] Speaker 1: and that's the thing.
[1:16:25] Speaker 3: He'll appeal.
[1:16:26] Speaker 1: This kid will appeal and appeal and appeal and appeal
[1:16:28] Speaker 1: until he's out. Like that's just like what will happen.
[1:16:30] Speaker 1: I feel like that's what happens with everybody rich, unless
[1:16:32] Speaker 1: there's like video of you murdering someone. You just appeal
[1:16:35] Speaker 1: and appeal until you get out, like if you're rich.
[1:16:38] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the Bill Cosby.
[1:16:41] Speaker 5: Of it all.
[1:16:42] Speaker 1: Yeah, Like they're just gonna figure out a way so
[1:16:45] Speaker 1: in then, I mean, he does have to go to
[1:16:46] Speaker 1: jail until the appeal though, so that's good.
[1:16:48] Speaker 3: In the next scene, Live.
[1:16:50] Speaker 1: Walks up to Stone's office, knocks, he says, come in,
[1:16:53] Speaker 1: and when he comes in, when she comes in, he's shirtless,
[1:16:56] Speaker 1: but like in the middle of putting a shirt on.
[1:16:58] Speaker 1: But we do see the Gore just Torso and Live like,
[1:17:02] Speaker 1: why wouldn't he wait to let her in exactly? Why? Yeah,
[1:17:05] Speaker 1: that's like incredible and Live goes sorry and he goes,
[1:17:08] Speaker 1: it's okay. There's a time for work and not work.
[1:17:10] Speaker 1: And I remember always thinking that these two were gonna fuck,
[1:17:13] Speaker 1: and then I couldn't remember why, Like after we started
[1:17:16] Speaker 1: this podcast, I was like, why do I always think
[1:17:18] Speaker 1: that I thought Stone and Benson were going to be something.
[1:17:21] Speaker 1: And it's like when you rewatch, you're like, yeah, he
[1:17:23] Speaker 1: sits her down and tells her what an amazing woman
[1:17:25] Speaker 1: she is being a lieutenant and having a single child,
[1:17:28] Speaker 1: and then she he goes come in while he's like naked,
[1:17:31] Speaker 1: you know, like I think there were some hots going.
[1:17:34] Speaker 3: They just always have to set the scene.
[1:17:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, j for just In case Y, Yeah, totally totally,
[1:17:42] Speaker 1: and like that's fun like for us to be like
[1:17:44] Speaker 1: always there's something there, you know, Like I think I
[1:17:47] Speaker 1: thought there was something there with every single man. I
[1:17:49] Speaker 1: think there was something there with Tomorrow. I thought there
[1:17:51] Speaker 1: was something there with barbar Like never Barbi. Actually I
[1:17:53] Speaker 1: never got that. But so she was like, thank you
[1:17:57] Speaker 1: so much for not being like too harsh with Korea.
[1:18:00] Speaker 1: See and he's like, says something cute, and she goes,
[1:18:02] Speaker 1: so that's the plan. You're just gonna charm your way
[1:18:04] Speaker 1: into our hearts and he goes, it could work. She goes,
[1:18:07] Speaker 1: we're NYPD detectives. We can see through charming. And before
[1:18:11] Speaker 1: she leaves, he tells her, Hey, I heard Noah likes baseball.
[1:18:14] Speaker 1: I can get him all the Mets tickets he wants,
[1:18:16] Speaker 1: and she goes, you are good, but like, knowing Noah,
[1:18:19] Speaker 1: he's probably gonna like rip up the tickets in front
[1:18:21] Speaker 1: of her and go, I like the Yankees, you dumb bitch,
[1:18:23] Speaker 1: Like I just you know, can see it. But back
[1:18:27] Speaker 1: at Hudson you Carisie is helping Mia pick up her
[1:18:29] Speaker 1: stuff and she wants to know what's going to happen
[1:18:32] Speaker 1: to Ethan and CARESI figures he'll get seven years and
[1:18:37] Speaker 1: she's like, in prison, this is all my fault. And
[1:18:39] Speaker 1: she's like and Cariese's like, whatever you did, you didn't
[1:18:43] Speaker 1: deserve what he did to you. And we find out
[1:18:46] Speaker 1: that she hasn't told her mom that she's leaving school yet.
[1:18:48] Speaker 1: I do kind of feel like the school might suspend
[1:18:50] Speaker 1: her for like the false allegation, being like no just
[1:18:54] Speaker 1: knowing colleges, they'd be like, well you did false like
[1:18:57] Speaker 1: you falsely go through a tribunal and get a student
[1:18:59] Speaker 1: like punished. But and they're like, oh, have you told
[1:19:03] Speaker 1: your mom that you're leaving school? And she's like no,
[1:19:05] Speaker 1: she wants maybe go to school with pneumonia. And he's like,
[1:19:08] Speaker 1: you deserve some time off. I'll help her break it
[1:19:10] Speaker 1: to you. And then she's like, he's gonna she's gonna
[1:19:14] Speaker 1: hate you too when he goes she's my oldest sister.
[1:19:16] Speaker 1: She's supposed to hate me. And then he's like, you're
[1:19:18] Speaker 1: gonna be good. He tells you you'd be good, So
[1:19:20] Speaker 1: like that's the end, and that's dick wolf Baby is careesy,
[1:19:23] Speaker 1: like just trying to pick up the pieces of his
[1:19:26] Speaker 1: nieces And uh, I hope that she is okay. I
[1:19:30] Speaker 1: forget what her part is in promising young gentlemen. One
[1:19:33] Speaker 1: family so much drama.
[1:19:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, we same with Amrrow, Like I feel like all
[1:19:40] Speaker 2: their families just have a lot of shit going on.
[1:19:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, Rollin's yeah, rollins.
[1:19:45] Speaker 2: Hold on, am I saying something really obvious that we
[1:19:48] Speaker 2: all know and have known and talks about, like they're
[1:19:51] Speaker 2: all their families are really fucked up.
[1:19:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, but I feel like, uh, kind of everybody's family
[1:19:58] Speaker 1: is fucked up. But also, if you're gonna do TELEVI
[1:20:00] Speaker 1: if you're going to be a television character for like multiple,
[1:20:03] Speaker 1: multiple seasons, they're gonna keep big Because I remember thinking like, oh,
[1:20:06] Speaker 1: Stabler's probably boring, right, And then like the more you
[1:20:08] Speaker 1: get into Stabler's backstory with with OC, You're like, oh,
[1:20:12] Speaker 1: Stabler had kind of a fucked up childhood, Like I
[1:20:14] Speaker 1: think you like shot a gun when he was a
[1:20:16] Speaker 1: kid or something and did something bad.
[1:20:18] Speaker 3: But I don't know. Uh so, yeah.
[1:20:20] Speaker 1: They got to keep digging, but I don't know anything
[1:20:24] Speaker 1: about the real case. So take it away.
[1:20:35] Speaker 2: I'm here and I will take it away. It is
[1:20:37] Speaker 2: the case of Nikki Yovino. Sacred Heart University in Connecticut,
[1:20:42] Speaker 2: fair few. Yeah, I knew people that went there, and
[1:20:46] Speaker 2: what's the scoop? What I think Connecticut's Sacred Heart scoop?
[1:20:49] Speaker 1: It kind of already It always felt to me like
[1:20:52] Speaker 1: kind of it was mostly girls I remember that went there,
[1:20:54] Speaker 1: and they always went. It was like girls that you
[1:20:57] Speaker 1: could feel wanted to stay closer to their parents, you
[1:20:59] Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like it was it was that
[1:21:01] Speaker 1: kind of vibe like I'm gonna go to Sacred Heart.
[1:21:02] Speaker 1: It's close by, you know, but I don't really know
[1:21:05] Speaker 1: anything else. I just assumed it was religious, So well,
[1:21:09] Speaker 1: yeah Sacred Heart.
[1:21:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I applied.
[1:21:11] Speaker 2: To a Long Island woman, uh falsely accused two black
[1:21:15] Speaker 2: football players of rape. And so the racial element does
[1:21:20] Speaker 2: come into play that it doesn't in this episode. It's
[1:21:22] Speaker 2: like cause I'm like, no one false accused it. Like
[1:21:27] Speaker 2: that doesn't work. It doesn't work. And it's like, well,
[1:21:28] Speaker 2: it does work if it's white woman, black man, Like
[1:21:32] Speaker 2: that's just like a historical and current truth. And so
[1:21:36] Speaker 2: then that that is that's another layer to everything. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
[1:21:42] Speaker 2: Emmitt Till. But the way the episode is, it's like,
[1:21:45] Speaker 2: no way, but they've had episodes. I think that man
[1:21:48] Speaker 2: deciphered is the one who falsely accused.
[1:21:51] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, black suits. Yeah, you know.
[1:21:55] Speaker 2: Her husband said that she wants to do this podcast,
[1:21:57] Speaker 2: Like what's up?
[1:21:59] Speaker 1: Maybe I'll message him from our account, let's see. Yeah, okay,
[1:22:02] Speaker 1: all right, you heard it here. First, This is r
[1:22:04] Speaker 1: up against. This is a up against. I mean I
[1:22:06] Speaker 1: would die if we talk to her. I mean she's
[1:22:08] Speaker 1: always promoting something. She works a lot, she works so much.
[1:22:11] Speaker 1: She's so talented and good.
[1:22:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, and she's one of the people that in architectural
[1:22:16] Speaker 2: digest brags about the kinds of wood that she has
[1:22:19] Speaker 2: in her home.
[1:22:20] Speaker 3: I don't know if you've seen those.
[1:22:21] Speaker 1: I haven't montage.
[1:22:22] Speaker 3: You haven't seen the montages.
[1:22:24] Speaker 2: No, Oh, it's like a full montage of just like
[1:22:26] Speaker 2: I guess, rich people love to like brag about where
[1:22:29] Speaker 2: their wood is coming from, and so it's just like
[1:22:31] Speaker 2: almost every architectural digest and it's like, so this is
[1:22:34] Speaker 2: from a ship from the seventeenth century.
[1:22:37] Speaker 3: And then I remember.
[1:22:38] Speaker 2: Aaron Paul was like, we got these wooden beams from
[1:22:40] Speaker 2: the cabin flowing like flown in from Idaho. Like it's
[1:22:44] Speaker 2: all everyone's just always like this guitar is from Jimi
[1:22:48] Speaker 2: Hendrix's childhood dresser, Like everyone.
[1:22:50] Speaker 1: Imagine that you can, like I just can't even imagine
[1:22:54] Speaker 1: doing like any kind of renovation on my home, let
[1:22:56] Speaker 1: alone making sure that every part of the renovation has
[1:22:59] Speaker 1: like history, you know, like I can't.
[1:23:02] Speaker 3: That just sounds so expensive.
[1:23:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, oh god, are you watching oc howswives? I know
[1:23:09] Speaker 2: I'm not all right, it's good, but there's such a
[1:23:12] Speaker 2: dumb bitch.
[1:23:12] Speaker 3: Okay, So not fully. Everyone's complicated.
[1:23:15] Speaker 2: Okay, she's not my least favorite, but I do hate
[1:23:18] Speaker 2: the way they talk about money so much, in the
[1:23:20] Speaker 2: way they do.
[1:23:21] Speaker 3: I'm over it. I'm over it. They should just move
[1:23:23] Speaker 3: out to Beverly Hills.
[1:23:24] Speaker 4: She doesn't.
[1:23:24] Speaker 2: We're having a no boo fifty thousand dollars party for
[1:23:27] Speaker 2: no reason, Like I just yeah, I don't know, but
[1:23:32] Speaker 2: I love the wealth of Miami, so like, I don't
[1:23:34] Speaker 2: know what my issue is.
[1:23:36] Speaker 3: I love the wealth but not Okay.
[1:23:39] Speaker 2: Anyways, so she said she made up the allegations in
[1:23:42] Speaker 2: twenty so the allegations were in twenty sixteen. And then
[1:23:45] Speaker 2: she did say she made them up because she was
[1:23:46] Speaker 2: worried that her consensual. So there's a few like different
[1:23:50] Speaker 2: theories of what it was. So like one it was
[1:23:54] Speaker 2: that she was worried that this consensual encounter shared with
[1:23:57] Speaker 2: these two players would damage her relations and ship with
[1:24:00] Speaker 2: another student. And then others said it was like she
[1:24:05] Speaker 2: didn't want someone to be mad at her, like there
[1:24:07] Speaker 2: it was just like things like that, but she was
[1:24:10] Speaker 2: maybe dating someone didn't want it to come out at first,
[1:24:14] Speaker 2: she said she was raped by these two students in
[1:24:16] Speaker 2: a bathroom during an off campus party. It was a
[1:24:19] Speaker 2: Christmas party, and detectives believed her. Again I don't believe it,
[1:24:23] Speaker 2: but again the racial element. So there were and there,
[1:24:27] Speaker 2: but there were witness statements that corroborated her story, and
[1:24:30] Speaker 2: it appeared that the two students were going to be charged. Uh,
[1:24:33] Speaker 2: the hospital did a rape kit, and the hospital is
[1:24:36] Speaker 2: who contacted the police. But then another student came forward
[1:24:40] Speaker 2: and shared apparently like explicit text messages between her and
[1:24:46] Speaker 2: like the two male students, and this man also captured
[1:24:49] Speaker 2: part of the incident on his cell phone. Well, taping
[1:24:52] Speaker 2: a sexual encounter without consent is a crime, I believe, right,
[1:24:56] Speaker 2: so who taped it? This person or the player and
[1:24:58] Speaker 2: this other student knew And also texts don't mean anything.
[1:25:04] Speaker 2: So at this point it's like you people text after
[1:25:07] Speaker 2: they've been assaulted, Like texts don't matter to me. I'm
[1:25:10] Speaker 2: also just like confused where this incident cell phone situation happened. Well,
[1:25:14] Speaker 2: like it happened in a bathroom, So this person with
[1:25:16] Speaker 2: a cell phone was maybe like trying.
[1:25:18] Speaker 3: To record like through the door or like I don't know.
[1:25:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's strange if someone was watching, I don't know,
[1:25:26] Speaker 2: did you and if and if she knew this evidence existed, Like,
[1:25:29] Speaker 2: you can't tape someone. I don't I don't know if
[1:25:31] Speaker 2: it's like called rape, but you definitely can't tape someone unknowingly, right,
[1:25:37] Speaker 2: that must be something. It's kind of like if taking
[1:25:39] Speaker 2: a condom off is rape, then like secretly taping someone's
[1:25:42] Speaker 2: probably rape.
[1:25:43] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[1:25:45] Speaker 2: I guess I can look it up, but I didn't
[1:25:47] Speaker 2: think about it till right now. So police were like, hey,
[1:25:50] Speaker 2: here's some evidence. So they brought her in. This is
[1:25:52] Speaker 2: according to ABC Local six. So the police are like, hey,
[1:25:56] Speaker 2: so we have this evidence. And she could have been like, yes,
[1:25:58] Speaker 2: I texted whatever, but she she said she made it up.
[1:26:02] Speaker 2: The cop Captain Brian Fitzgerald told eyewitness news ABC seven
[1:26:06] Speaker 2: that she recanted immediately. She dropped out of school and
[1:26:09] Speaker 2: returned home to Long Island, And initially she was not charged,
[1:26:14] Speaker 2: but then after months of investigation, and it's like, but
[1:26:16] Speaker 2: why just drop it?
[1:26:17] Speaker 1: Like what are these months of investigations?
[1:26:20] Speaker 2: It's just like it's hard not to see the double
[1:26:22] Speaker 2: standards of like stuff, even though what she did was wrong,
[1:26:26] Speaker 2: It's like, really it's tough. But they said they had
[1:26:29] Speaker 2: no choice but to arrest her. And she was charged
[1:26:32] Speaker 2: with tampering with evidence, which is a felony, and falsely
[1:26:34] Speaker 2: reporting an incident, which is a misdemeanor. She said, though,
[1:26:38] Speaker 2: that she was pressured into confessing. So her lawyer Ryan
[1:26:42] Speaker 2: O'Neill said that she said that they had sex with
[1:26:46] Speaker 2: her against her will, but she never used the terms
[1:26:49] Speaker 2: rape or sexual assault, and it's like, okay.
[1:26:54] Speaker 3: It well it is, but naw.
[1:26:57] Speaker 2: And then her behavior and core one of the by
[1:27:00] Speaker 2: like the defendant's lawyers, said that her attitude at the
[1:27:04] Speaker 2: hearing was disgusting and she was given so many opportunities
[1:27:08] Speaker 2: to fix the situation but wouldn't do it. And that's
[1:27:11] Speaker 2: according to be Et. And basically she rolled her eyes
[1:27:15] Speaker 2: and made everyone mad. And I did see the eyroll photos.
[1:27:18] Speaker 2: She also like pursed her lips like MICHAELA. Mulrooney the
[1:27:20] Speaker 2: balance Beam when she got silver and was pissed, or
[1:27:23] Speaker 2: the vaults. I think she volts and so she I mean,
[1:27:26] Speaker 2: it's just an eye roll, But so a photo of
[1:27:30] Speaker 2: an iyroll looks bad, Like if she I rolled once,
[1:27:33] Speaker 2: I don't know if that's that bad. But she was
[1:27:35] Speaker 2: eye rolling and so it made everyone pissed, but she
[1:27:40] Speaker 2: did it plead guilty. She was sentenced to court August
[1:27:43] Speaker 2: twenty third, twenty eighteen, and she was sentenced to three
[1:27:46] Speaker 2: years in prison.
[1:27:47] Speaker 3: Like this is where I get mad. Oh my god.
[1:27:50] Speaker 2: So she only had to serve one year and then
[1:27:52] Speaker 2: the other two uhs were suspended as part of a
[1:27:55] Speaker 2: plea agreement to include three years probation. She wanted early
[1:27:59] Speaker 2: release from probation and they said no, and then you
[1:28:02] Speaker 2: have Brock Turner who gets three months. And so like
[1:28:05] Speaker 2: that's why these cases are hard to deal with because
[1:28:08] Speaker 2: she did something wrong, but then you can't. I just
[1:28:13] Speaker 2: there needs to be standard sentences where rapists can't get
[1:28:16] Speaker 2: less than a falsory vacusation. Yeah, because if you're saying
[1:28:19] Speaker 2: they're equal, they're not.
[1:28:21] Speaker 1: And it's like also sounds like something maybe did happen
[1:28:25] Speaker 1: that she didn't want to happen, but maybe she didn't
[1:28:27] Speaker 1: say no, And like I don't know that this doesn't
[1:28:30] Speaker 1: sound like cutting dry just made it up, but she
[1:28:33] Speaker 1: just made it up. She did hook up with these guys,
[1:28:36] Speaker 1: but they didn't want like a friend to get mad
[1:28:38] Speaker 1: that like probably liked one of them or something like that.
[1:28:40] Speaker 3: Okay, kind of like what happened in this episode, but yeah,
[1:28:43] Speaker 3: I go, there's more.
[1:28:44] Speaker 2: I don't know why I didn't put it up top,
[1:28:45] Speaker 2: but I have more reasons right now. Oh okay, it's chunk,
[1:28:48] Speaker 2: but like it would have made sense to say it sooner.
[1:28:52] Speaker 2: So the men's names are Demir Bradley and Malik Saint
[1:28:55] Speaker 2: Hilaire and I'm sure I'm saying that wrong.
[1:28:57] Speaker 3: I bet it's like French and fun. Yeah, the.
[1:29:01] Speaker 2: Men were never formally charged, so that's good. But they
[1:29:05] Speaker 2: did withdraw from school while facing possible discipline, and that's
[1:29:08] Speaker 2: because their council advised them to drop out and one
[1:29:11] Speaker 2: lost a football scholarship because of that. One of the
[1:29:15] Speaker 2: men did speak and made a statement in court. Malik
[1:29:18] Speaker 2: said that his life has been a rollercoaster duh, and
[1:29:22] Speaker 2: that he suffers from anxiety and PTSD and both men
[1:29:25] Speaker 2: plan civil lawsuits against her and the school. October twenty eighteen,
[1:29:29] Speaker 2: they sued her for alleged slander and infliction of emotional distress.
[1:29:32] Speaker 2: They accused the school of wrongly suspending them, but it
[1:29:35] Speaker 2: was concluded that the court did not abuse its discretion
[1:29:38] Speaker 2: and affirm the judgment in favor of the university. So
[1:29:41] Speaker 2: like one document said that all the motions were withdrawn
[1:29:43] Speaker 2: without cost to any party and against the suit. So
[1:29:46] Speaker 2: I don't think the school one worked and I couldn't
[1:29:51] Speaker 2: find information about the civil suit with her, But basically
[1:29:58] Speaker 2: I don't think they got any money or anything that
[1:30:00] Speaker 2: And their side of the story is that they told
[1:30:03] Speaker 2: the police that they had consensual sex with her at
[1:30:05] Speaker 2: an off campus party and that she lied so she
[1:30:07] Speaker 2: wouldn't lose a potential boyfriend. And then other sources said
[1:30:11] Speaker 2: she did it to get sympathy of a person that
[1:30:13] Speaker 2: she wanted to date. Either way, like there's no like
[1:30:16] Speaker 2: conclusion as to why or what or for who or
[1:30:20] Speaker 2: what she was trying to do.
[1:30:22] Speaker 1: Damn well. But she did go to the store. Yeah,
[1:30:27] Speaker 1: and she went to jail, which I'm like, yeah, yeah.
[1:30:33] Speaker 2: They did drop out of school, but like there were
[1:30:35] Speaker 2: no charges. Ever, they're not on a list, like and
[1:30:39] Speaker 2: there's no articles about what happened. All the articles are
[1:30:42] Speaker 2: that she lied, so there's like no scarlet letters here.
[1:30:46] Speaker 1: But also but they.
[1:30:48] Speaker 2: Don't get more seriously immediately than if it was like, oh,
[1:30:51] Speaker 2: white dude, I feel.
[1:30:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, And but these are also like this is
[1:30:55] Speaker 1: these are like you know, men that were in school
[1:30:59] Speaker 1: and one on a skull that he lost, Like that
[1:31:01] Speaker 1: does that is that's terrible, Like that's not life ruining,
[1:31:06] Speaker 1: but that's life altering. You know, if if it was
[1:31:09] Speaker 1: completely he was like just thought he was having consensual
[1:31:12] Speaker 1: sex in a bathroom. Yeah, that is true, that is
[1:31:15] Speaker 1: you know, I do not want to diminish that. Yeah,
[1:31:19] Speaker 1: but I mean again the racial element that they're not
[1:31:21] Speaker 1: really touching in this SPU episode. But yeah, it's like
[1:31:24] Speaker 1: she should be punished.
[1:31:25] Speaker 2: It's like the wrong thing to do, and it makes
[1:31:27] Speaker 2: it hard wa YadA, YadA YadA. But it's like I
[1:31:31] Speaker 2: just can't believe that she gets more time than like
[1:31:33] Speaker 2: a brock Turner type.
[1:31:35] Speaker 3: It's like really hard to digest that.
[1:31:37] Speaker 2: And then also what bothers me is like this is
[1:31:39] Speaker 2: used as evidence that women lie, but that men rape
[1:31:43] Speaker 2: all the time is not used as evidence is all
[1:31:47] Speaker 2: men rape or you know what I mean, Like it's like,
[1:31:49] Speaker 2: well women lie. I look, yeah, it's like, well if
[1:31:52] Speaker 2: we men every rapist, It's like, I don't you know,
[1:31:55] Speaker 2: It's just I feel things like this are used to
[1:31:58] Speaker 2: discredit women often, yet the stain of like men being
[1:32:03] Speaker 2: rapists and doesn't really do that to men.
[1:32:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, totally, but that is a downer of a story
[1:32:12] Speaker 1: and pretty much of an episode as well. But we've
[1:32:15] Speaker 1: got a great guest to bring things up. Don't go anywhere, okay.
[1:32:26] Speaker 1: Our guest today is an actress who you may know
[1:32:29] Speaker 1: from the show's bansheet or Lights Out, but you know
[1:32:32] Speaker 1: her today as the conflicted niece of Dominic Caresi, Mia Marino.
[1:32:37] Speaker 3: Please enjoy our chat with Ryan Shane, a.
[1:32:39] Speaker 1: Three episode sv icon. How are you today? Yes, that's me,
[1:32:45] Speaker 1: a member of the Kreesi Dynasty. To be honest, they
[1:32:47] Speaker 1: could ask you back at any moment.
[1:32:49] Speaker 6: I would love to be back. I love that sets
[1:32:52] Speaker 6: so fun there.
[1:32:54] Speaker 5: Yeah, but I don't have my man Warren light over
[1:32:56] Speaker 5: there anymore, so I don't know.
[1:32:58] Speaker 1: So yeah, that's true. But there's a whole new showrunner
[1:33:01] Speaker 1: in the coming up, so and they finally got a lady,
[1:33:05] Speaker 1: so we're excited to see what happens, very exciting.
[1:33:08] Speaker 6: Yeah, Warren and I were friends.
[1:33:11] Speaker 5: I was on a show he did called Lights Out
[1:33:13] Speaker 5: when I was in high school, so that's how I
[1:33:15] Speaker 5: knew him.
[1:33:15] Speaker 6: So he just brought me on.
[1:33:16] Speaker 1: Oh so yeah cool. Well, so I guess we could
[1:33:21] Speaker 1: start with you know, daddy dearest.
[1:33:25] Speaker 3: Yeah, wild episode wild episode.
[1:33:27] Speaker 5: I will say I don't love watching myself, so I
[1:33:30] Speaker 5: just reread the synopsies and didn't rewatch.
[1:33:35] Speaker 6: But I have like behind the scenes anecdotes that I.
[1:33:38] Speaker 1: Can we would hear.
[1:33:40] Speaker 3: Yeah, we love to hear it.
[1:33:41] Speaker 4: I mean.
[1:33:42] Speaker 5: So it was in twenty twelve, I believe, or twenty
[1:33:46] Speaker 5: eleven maybe when we shot.
[1:33:48] Speaker 1: So it was a while ago.
[1:33:50] Speaker 5: I was nineteen years old and maybe eighteen.
[1:33:55] Speaker 6: Now I'm giving away my age.
[1:33:57] Speaker 4: I mean.
[1:33:58] Speaker 5: The best fact of this story is that Shannon Walsh,
[1:34:03] Speaker 5: who was the main girl we like met on that set,
[1:34:07] Speaker 5: didn't know each other. We just saw each other in
[1:34:10] Speaker 5: the dressing room. Then years later it turned out we
[1:34:13] Speaker 5: were in the same acting studio. We were not in
[1:34:16] Speaker 5: the same class. I had to do a makeup class.
[1:34:19] Speaker 5: I sat in on her class. She's like, oh my god, Ryan,
[1:34:22] Speaker 5: do you remember me.
[1:34:22] Speaker 6: I was like, yeah. We became friends.
[1:34:24] Speaker 5: Then I moved to LA, she moved to LA and yeah,
[1:34:27] Speaker 5: so now we're good friends. So and so at parties
[1:34:31] Speaker 5: when we like talked to people, they're like, how do
[1:34:33] Speaker 5: you know each other? We're like, we played sperm donor
[1:34:36] Speaker 5: baby Sisters on SPU when we were eighteen years old.
[1:34:40] Speaker 1: So that is kind of the best. How do you
[1:34:43] Speaker 1: know each other's story? I feel that you could give that's.
[1:34:46] Speaker 6: People get really confused when we say that.
[1:34:48] Speaker 1: We're like, it's for acting, it was for for you.
[1:34:53] Speaker 5: Yeah, And then on that set, I just remember it
[1:34:55] Speaker 5: was like the first time I had really held a baby.
[1:34:57] Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys remember that, seeing like
[1:34:59] Speaker 5: the babies head is as big as my head, and
[1:35:01] Speaker 5: I really didn't know what I was doing. So that
[1:35:05] Speaker 5: was a little I was like more nervous about holding
[1:35:07] Speaker 5: the baby than like acting, like being on set and
[1:35:10] Speaker 5: like knowing my lines and stuff.
[1:35:12] Speaker 1: So those are.
[1:35:13] Speaker 6: The only things I really remember. It's that was like
[1:35:15] Speaker 6: a lifetime ago.
[1:35:16] Speaker 1: I know. But then they brought you back to be
[1:35:21] Speaker 1: part of the Coreesi fam.
[1:35:23] Speaker 3: So this episode is like so intense.
[1:35:26] Speaker 1: I feel like and like you're like you've got courtroom testifying,
[1:35:31] Speaker 1: like you're from the very beginning, like in you're collapsing
[1:35:35] Speaker 1: into your uncle's arms many times. How was working with
[1:35:38] Speaker 1: Peter Scanaviino. We've got a lot of our listeners are
[1:35:42] Speaker 1: very horny for him, And yeah, I.
[1:35:46] Speaker 5: Just have to say, every single time I've been on SBU,
[1:35:49] Speaker 5: it's been so fun. Everyone is I'm sure other people
[1:35:53] Speaker 5: you've had on and have said the same thing. Everyone
[1:35:55] Speaker 5: is super easy to work with, super charming.
[1:35:58] Speaker 1: Peter is awesome.
[1:36:01] Speaker 5: Like obviously what they do, they're down to a science there, right,
[1:36:05] Speaker 5: it's a machine.
[1:36:05] Speaker 6: They go and they know their lines.
[1:36:07] Speaker 5: They're they're learning their lines on the fly a lot
[1:36:09] Speaker 5: of the time because they have so much to do
[1:36:11] Speaker 5: the day before, and then they're learning their lines really
[1:36:13] Speaker 5: quickly on the fly. They're just they're pros and they'll
[1:36:18] Speaker 5: they'll drop into these heavy scenes the second it cuts.
[1:36:20] Speaker 6: They're they're telling jokes, they're making each other laugh.
[1:36:22] Speaker 5: I'm like, they are comedians and they should be featured
[1:36:27] Speaker 5: in a comedy next. Yeah, so Peter Marishka's hilarious, Like
[1:36:33] Speaker 5: they just have everyone cracking up in between scenes, in
[1:36:37] Speaker 5: between tapes.
[1:36:37] Speaker 6: It's awesome.
[1:36:38] Speaker 5: It's the most fun set. It is a well oiled machine.
[1:36:42] Speaker 5: Every crew member there is happy, Like I mean, a
[1:36:45] Speaker 5: couple of crew members have told me that the series
[1:36:48] Speaker 5: Rags treat them really well, like every Christmas they give
[1:36:50] Speaker 5: out lots of gifts and yeah, so it's just like
[1:36:53] Speaker 5: it's the best show to work on.
[1:36:55] Speaker 1: So yeah, so what's your vibe do you go in
[1:36:58] Speaker 1: and out?
[1:36:59] Speaker 2: Can you joke around? Are you very like you got
[1:37:01] Speaker 2: to be in it? What's no?
[1:37:03] Speaker 5: I can go in and out, but for like the crying,
[1:37:08] Speaker 5: I have to be I have to like have like
[1:37:10] Speaker 5: thirty minutes before the crying to be by myself and
[1:37:13] Speaker 5: get in the zone. This is like the best story
[1:37:17] Speaker 5: I could give behind the scenes forsview is that I'm
[1:37:21] Speaker 5: a huge, diehard Eagles fan.
[1:37:23] Speaker 6: I hadn't worked for almost a year.
[1:37:25] Speaker 5: Of course, I booked this episode right when the Eagles
[1:37:30] Speaker 5: win the Super Bowl, and so I watched the Super
[1:37:33] Speaker 5: Bowl on a Sunday in New York when all my
[1:37:35] Speaker 5: friends were back in Philly watching it because I couldn't
[1:37:38] Speaker 5: go to Philly because I had a six.
[1:37:40] Speaker 6: Am call time the next day.
[1:37:42] Speaker 5: I had worked the whole week previously shooting, and I
[1:37:46] Speaker 5: became friends with the crew who are all Giants fans.
[1:37:48] Speaker 5: Giants hate the Eagles, so there was a lot of
[1:37:50] Speaker 5: shit talking about her. And I came to set Monday
[1:37:54] Speaker 5: morning after the Eagles won, and I was like, super
[1:37:56] Speaker 5: Bowl champions, baby, and I get joking around, laughing like okay,
[1:38:00] Speaker 5: now you have to get on the stand and cry
[1:38:02] Speaker 5: about being raped. It's like I have to do that
[1:38:06] Speaker 5: so uh so that that is probably like just to
[1:38:10] Speaker 5: my own horn for a second. I don't think I
[1:38:12] Speaker 5: could ever go from super happy to super sad so quickly, but.
[1:38:17] Speaker 6: Like that was a true test that day.
[1:38:19] Speaker 3: Yeah, when your team wins and then you have to.
[1:38:22] Speaker 5: I mean I was on cloud nine and then they're
[1:38:24] Speaker 5: like you need to be sad. I'm like, okay, let
[1:38:26] Speaker 5: me just think of really dark shit right.
[1:38:29] Speaker 3: Now, Susie, lets you have it.
[1:38:33] Speaker 6: Yeah, she's amazing too.
[1:38:35] Speaker 5: She's so funny too, Like I'm telling you, when they
[1:38:38] Speaker 5: say cut, it's a it's yeah, it's like stand up
[1:38:41] Speaker 5: comedy in between takes.
[1:38:43] Speaker 6: It's great.
[1:38:44] Speaker 1: And then you got to do like a lot of
[1:38:47] Speaker 1: intense like face to face with Marishka in your little
[1:38:50] Speaker 1: pink bedroom.
[1:38:51] Speaker 3: How did that all go? Your butterfly poster on the wall.
[1:38:55] Speaker 5: And yeah, I do remember being quite nervous for that
[1:39:00] Speaker 5: because it's Marishka, and I think I do think that
[1:39:02] Speaker 5: was my first scene with her on that episode.
[1:39:05] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[1:39:06] Speaker 5: Fun fact, so Warren and I knew each other from
[1:39:09] Speaker 5: a show he did, lights Out. He also brought in
[1:39:12] Speaker 5: Norberto who directed that episode, who was a big director
[1:39:18] Speaker 5: on Lights Out. I think he did, like he did
[1:39:19] Speaker 5: multiple episodes, so we all knew each other. So it
[1:39:22] Speaker 5: was really nice to be on Narberto's set because I
[1:39:25] Speaker 5: like already knew him.
[1:39:26] Speaker 6: I felt comfortable and stuff. So yeah, I was a
[1:39:29] Speaker 6: little nervous, but like great, She's so sweet and she's
[1:39:32] Speaker 6: so kind.
[1:39:33] Speaker 5: She like and she knows that you know, this is
[1:39:36] Speaker 5: a big moment for an up and coming actor to
[1:39:38] Speaker 5: be on SVU. So she like I remember her putting
[1:39:41] Speaker 5: her hand on my leg and be like, you got this,
[1:39:43] Speaker 5: It's good. You're all good. And every time I've been
[1:39:46] Speaker 5: on the show, every like after every scene, she'll she'll
[1:39:49] Speaker 5: be like, you were fantastic. I hope to see you
[1:39:52] Speaker 5: again soon, and like she's just so nice and personal.
[1:39:55] Speaker 5: And then another Tibeth, when she's out on the street
[1:39:57] Speaker 5: and there's fans, she like goes over and says hi
[1:39:59] Speaker 5: to the and like takes pictures. I mean, everyone is
[1:40:02] Speaker 5: just so cool and that's a it's really like the
[1:40:04] Speaker 5: real New Yorkers just like cool, funny, down earth people.
[1:40:09] Speaker 1: And you like you were on you were a regular
[1:40:11] Speaker 1: on Banshee for like a bunch of seasons as well. Yes,
[1:40:15] Speaker 1: so I was on that show for four years.
[1:40:18] Speaker 3: And you were pretty young also, you were playing like
[1:40:20] Speaker 3: a teen.
[1:40:21] Speaker 5: Yeah, so I was on that from when I was
[1:40:24] Speaker 5: eighteen to twenty two and then I'm still good friends
[1:40:28] Speaker 5: with a lot of the people from that show. And yeah,
[1:40:31] Speaker 5: I'm mostly writing now, writing and trying to produce my
[1:40:36] Speaker 5: own stuff and shopping things around in La.
[1:40:39] Speaker 3: So what kind of things do you want to do
[1:40:42] Speaker 3: writing wise?
[1:40:44] Speaker 6: I have a writing partner.
[1:40:45] Speaker 5: We're doing a lot of like horror and dark thriller
[1:40:50] Speaker 5: type stuff for film, so we're starting out with that.
[1:40:54] Speaker 5: So we have a couple things in the pipeline, one
[1:40:58] Speaker 5: about like very sv ask girls stalked by a guy
[1:41:02] Speaker 5: if she meets on Hinge and.
[1:41:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, just you know inge stalker.
[1:41:09] Speaker 6: Yeah, so we have we have a couple that were
[1:41:12] Speaker 6: shopping around.
[1:41:13] Speaker 5: We have a few exciting meetings actually next week, so
[1:41:16] Speaker 5: we'll see.
[1:41:17] Speaker 3: Are you a theater girl like Warren Light?
[1:41:20] Speaker 6: I grew up doing theater.
[1:41:22] Speaker 5: I'm I'm really not acting as much anymore, so it's
[1:41:26] Speaker 5: more the writing. I mean I still audition and do
[1:41:29] Speaker 5: things here and there, but it's more the writing focus
[1:41:32] Speaker 5: right now. And yeah, I have a normal job as well,
[1:41:37] Speaker 5: so just you know, juggling all the hustles as one does.
[1:41:42] Speaker 3: Want to share your normal job.
[1:41:45] Speaker 1: It's so boring.
[1:41:45] Speaker 5: I'm a marketing manager for a pharma pharma tech and
[1:41:50] Speaker 5: machinery company.
[1:41:52] Speaker 2: Is your job flexible for when you book and stuff
[1:41:55] Speaker 2: like that.
[1:41:56] Speaker 5: Yeah, so I work remotely and I mean able to
[1:42:00] Speaker 5: like audition and write and stuff on the side. But yeah,
[1:42:04] Speaker 5: it's a fine balance. I'm still learning to manage it all.
[1:42:07] Speaker 1: But that's great. That's that's good to have a flex
[1:42:10] Speaker 1: job when you're trying.
[1:42:11] Speaker 5: To I'm very I'm very thankful for that, and it's
[1:42:16] Speaker 5: nice I can like turn off my creative brain and
[1:42:18] Speaker 5: just focus on like corporate monotony.
[1:42:22] Speaker 3: Do you do a lot of spreadsheets?
[1:42:24] Speaker 5: Yeah, I have Excel sheets and different documents and yeah.
[1:42:29] Speaker 3: I love a spreadsheet.
[1:42:31] Speaker 5: It's very calming. It's super calming. Like I feel very
[1:42:35] Speaker 5: accomplished when I have all my spreadsheets.
[1:42:39] Speaker 3: You're an organized gal? Oh?
[1:42:41] Speaker 6: I in certain ways? Yeah, in certain ways.
[1:42:44] Speaker 5: Other ways, no, like my Yeah, my room isn't always
[1:42:47] Speaker 5: the most organized, but my spreadsheets are organized, and that's
[1:42:50] Speaker 5: what matters.
[1:42:51] Speaker 6: No one's judging me on my room.
[1:42:53] Speaker 1: Did you like did you get into acting like as
[1:42:56] Speaker 1: like a little.
[1:42:56] Speaker 6: Kid, Yeah, I was like seven or eight.
[1:43:03] Speaker 5: I was doing regional theater and then commercials and then
[1:43:08] Speaker 5: film and TV. And my my first big thing was
[1:43:11] Speaker 5: Lights Out with Warren. I wasn't Yeah, So I did
[1:43:15] Speaker 5: some movies before then and then and then Banhi was
[1:43:18] Speaker 5: the next big thing. So then I've done little pieces
[1:43:22] Speaker 5: here and there.
[1:43:23] Speaker 3: I'm curious about Crying Girl, and Francisha.
[1:43:27] Speaker 5: Mus said, yeah, what a great movie. I rarely watched myself,
[1:43:32] Speaker 5: but I love that movie so much. Yeah, that was
[1:43:35] Speaker 5: a weird. So I was eighteen. I just moved to school.
[1:43:40] Speaker 5: I went to Barnard in New York and yeah, and
[1:43:43] Speaker 5: then my agents were like, you have this audition. There's
[1:43:46] Speaker 5: no lines. You just have to go in and cry.
[1:43:48] Speaker 5: It's like, okay, did it got it?
[1:43:51] Speaker 6: Then Noah Bombach he had like it was a ten
[1:43:55] Speaker 6: person crew. It was no one.
[1:43:57] Speaker 5: They were like, meet us on this cross street in
[1:44:00] Speaker 5: Midtown at this time, and we're going to drive you
[1:44:03] Speaker 5: to Vasar College. So I told my parents at eighteen,
[1:44:06] Speaker 5: I'm like, yeah, I'm getting in this stranger's car.
[1:44:08] Speaker 3: I had to go to Schenectity.
[1:44:10] Speaker 5: Yeah, in the middle of nowhere. I remember I really
[1:44:13] Speaker 5: had to use the bathroom.
[1:44:13] Speaker 1: There was nowhere to go.
[1:44:14] Speaker 5: He pulled out of the side road and I ran
[1:44:16] Speaker 5: unto a bush and then I got there and there
[1:44:19] Speaker 5: was like no hair, makeup, no wardrobe, Like I had
[1:44:22] Speaker 5: to provide my own wardrobe, and I ended I ended
[1:44:25] Speaker 5: up wearing Barnard's sweatpants in it that you can't see
[1:44:29] Speaker 5: in the shot because it's on the other side of
[1:44:31] Speaker 5: my leg. But then Greta was like I went to
[1:44:33] Speaker 5: Barnard and I was like, oh, cool, awesome. So we
[1:44:37] Speaker 5: kind of bonded over that for like two minutes, and
[1:44:39] Speaker 5: then I had to be serious and cry.
[1:44:41] Speaker 6: So yeah, I just sat in a Paul and cried,
[1:44:43] Speaker 6: and then they drove me back to school.
[1:44:44] Speaker 1: Wow, And that was it.
[1:44:47] Speaker 5: But like looking back, I'm like, how did my parents say, Yeah,
[1:44:50] Speaker 5: that's cool, just get in this random dude car just
[1:44:53] Speaker 5: a dud what I mean in the car driving out?
[1:44:56] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[1:44:56] Speaker 1: Two hours? Yeah, So it was cool.
[1:45:00] Speaker 6: I got to work with Greta and No and they're awesome.
[1:45:03] Speaker 5: And then like a year later, I ran into Know
[1:45:06] Speaker 5: on Columbia campus because he was like shooting something or
[1:45:09] Speaker 5: he was there for some reason. I was like, hey,
[1:45:10] Speaker 5: do you remember me? He's like, crying, girl, you made
[1:45:12] Speaker 5: the cut awesome. I'm sure like in post he's like.
[1:45:17] Speaker 3: Seeing your face.
[1:45:18] Speaker 6: A million times, like yeah, yeah.
[1:45:21] Speaker 3: That's so.
[1:45:21] Speaker 1: That was cool.
[1:45:22] Speaker 3: And he knew to say you made the cut. Wow.
[1:45:25] Speaker 3: I like that interaction.
[1:45:26] Speaker 1: Yeah, he was cool. They were both cool. Yeah.
[1:45:29] Speaker 2: Well I hope I still see one of your horror projects,
[1:45:33] Speaker 2: because well Caroen doesn't do horror, but it.
[1:45:36] Speaker 1: Depends on the more thriller than horror. I'll go. But
[1:45:39] Speaker 1: like if it's just a blood bath, I can't really
[1:45:41] Speaker 1: get involved.
[1:45:41] Speaker 5: We have some blood bath. He ones very bad she asked.
[1:45:46] Speaker 5: I don't know, you shouldn't watch Badgie. It's a lot
[1:45:48] Speaker 5: of blood, but okay, and then we have more thriller
[1:45:52] Speaker 5: like the stalk or the creepiness and you know, attempting
[1:45:56] Speaker 5: to be gone girl, but you know everyone's doing that.
[1:46:00] Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's awesome. Well we'll keep an eye out
[1:46:02] Speaker 1: for all that stuff. Thank you for talking to us.
[1:46:04] Speaker 1: I mean, if you have any more little tidbits before
[1:46:07] Speaker 1: we let you go, h.
[1:46:09] Speaker 5: No, just sp is a great place to work. And
[1:46:12] Speaker 5: yeah you guys should, yeah, try to get.
[1:46:14] Speaker 1: Bring you back as like the little babies, like babysit
[1:46:18] Speaker 1: for the little baby Kreese and stuff.
[1:46:20] Speaker 5: And yeah, I will love to come something goes on,
[1:46:24] Speaker 5: I would love to come back. If you end up
[1:46:25] Speaker 5: getting that new showrunner on, just tell her that, you know.
[1:46:28] Speaker 1: We got we got lots of more more Mia Marino, Yes, please.
[1:46:38] Speaker 3: A ways.
[1:46:39] Speaker 2: Always these guys so much drama in their families. Cares
[1:46:43] Speaker 2: tomorrow stay, their kids, their fathers, their nieces.
[1:46:49] Speaker 3: Yes, it's like it's never ending with the men of.
[1:46:52] Speaker 1: Sv well, all the men in SVU two are always
[1:46:55] Speaker 1: like like Stabler. It's like, oh my wife, Barbara, It's like,
[1:46:58] Speaker 1: oh my Aboila. It's careesy. It's like all my sisters,
[1:47:02] Speaker 1: you know, and with uh, with uh what's his name?
[1:47:06] Speaker 1: Tomorrow it was like Zara, Maria, you know everybody pretty much.
[1:47:11] Speaker 1: Do you remember my.
[1:47:12] Speaker 3: Dad was a criminal and his dad was at the wedding.
[1:47:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, we should do the dad the tomorrow dad rape episode.
[1:47:19] Speaker 1: Write that down, Casey tomorrow Dad rape episode. Please put
[1:47:23] Speaker 1: that in the notes. Wait, I don't know if they're
[1:47:25] Speaker 1: selling the merch.
[1:47:26] Speaker 2: I have to look, but so Matt and Bowen on
[1:47:29] Speaker 2: less coulch Teresa's and I think the girl from Hereditary
[1:47:33] Speaker 2: they call her Little Diva had come off.
[1:47:39] Speaker 3: And they have a hat.
[1:47:40] Speaker 2: Matt was wearing a baseball hat on Instagram, and I
[1:47:44] Speaker 2: hope it's official merch.
[1:47:45] Speaker 1: I want Little Divahead come off so bad, give me
[1:47:51] Speaker 1: the merch, give me the marra is so okay, yeah,
[1:47:56] Speaker 1: little diva head come off. I mean.
[1:47:59] Speaker 3: It makes me so oh happy. Okay, Chris, let's see.
[1:48:02] Speaker 1: Oh it's under Yep, it's on their merch. What I'm
[1:48:05] Speaker 1: seeing when I Google it? But maybe the link is old.
[1:48:08] Speaker 1: Let me make sure.
[1:48:10] Speaker 3: Why would it be old? I don't know, because Google
[1:48:13] Speaker 3: sometimes I don't know.
[1:48:14] Speaker 2: I'm scrolling. I'm seeing all this other stuff. Oh this
[1:48:16] Speaker 2: is last Cult? Is this not Less Culture Rest? Yeah,
[1:48:19] Speaker 2: it's out of stock, but you can request more.
[1:48:21] Speaker 1: I'm hitting yes please, And it's merched from the twenty
[1:48:25] Speaker 1: twenty five Lost Culture Rests Awards. Little Dad, it's so
[1:48:31] Speaker 1: guys are so funny. Okay, yeah, all right. So this episode,
[1:48:37] Speaker 1: I don't know, it's so complicated. Like I we talked
[1:48:42] Speaker 1: about it when we recapped it.
[1:48:43] Speaker 3: I thought it was.
[1:48:45] Speaker 1: Weird that Mio was like, well, I had to make
[1:48:47] Speaker 1: up a rape so that my roommate wouldn't be mad
[1:48:50] Speaker 1: at me, Like that's kind of weird. And then the
[1:48:54] Speaker 1: it's a weird episode it's a weird episode that.
[1:48:56] Speaker 3: The like, I don't really like that.
[1:48:58] Speaker 1: They they they've done tons of episodes that are really
[1:49:02] Speaker 1: great about how things are not black and white. There's
[1:49:04] Speaker 1: a lot of gray area, and this one was just
[1:49:07] Speaker 1: so weird, like, oh, there's gray area.
[1:49:09] Speaker 3: And then it was like, nope, just kidding, it's totally
[1:49:11] Speaker 3: black and white.
[1:49:11] Speaker 1: She said yes the first time and no the second time, like,
[1:49:14] Speaker 1: but who knows it's from a later season.
[1:49:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, but at the end of the day, he was
[1:49:18] Speaker 2: a rapist, like he we could sense the energy that
[1:49:23] Speaker 2: was rapiin.
[1:49:25] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:49:25] Speaker 2: I was at the I went to the Skoky Backclot bash,
[1:49:30] Speaker 2: so I wrote a Ferris Wheel. You know, it's Fried Snickers,
[1:49:35] Speaker 2: a Depeche Mode cover band. It was that kind of
[1:49:37] Speaker 2: a fair and there were these teen boys and they
[1:49:41] Speaker 2: were cutting like they were joining this other group of
[1:49:44] Speaker 2: boys and cutting people, and was it weren't even charming
[1:49:47] Speaker 2: about it, Like if you're charming, I'm gonna let a
[1:49:50] Speaker 2: teen budget.
[1:49:51] Speaker 3: But I didn't like their attitude.
[1:49:53] Speaker 2: And it took all of my energy not to be like,
[1:49:56] Speaker 2: excuse me, boys, we've been waiting, but I want children
[1:49:59] Speaker 2: to have fun.
[1:49:59] Speaker 1: But it's all like this is how we get serial killers.
[1:50:02] Speaker 1: These boys just do whatever the fuck they want. Yeah,
[1:50:05] Speaker 1: And because I.
[1:50:06] Speaker 2: Don't know if you saw about Idaho Brian murder, there
[1:50:10] Speaker 2: were like complaints, like actual like written complaints about him
[1:50:14] Speaker 2: at school. A PhD professor was like, we cannot give
[1:50:17] Speaker 2: him a PhD or he will be a murderer. And
[1:50:20] Speaker 2: so I was just like that was in my mind,
[1:50:22] Speaker 2: and I'm like, this is where it starts. These fuck
[1:50:24] Speaker 2: turd teens.
[1:50:25] Speaker 1: They're just cutting lines, caring and obviously they're spiraling, but
[1:50:29] Speaker 1: it is like that's who these people are, That's who
[1:50:32] Speaker 1: this boy is.
[1:50:32] Speaker 3: It's like that's ugh.
[1:50:35] Speaker 1: It's also like the cultural thing we have of you
[1:50:39] Speaker 1: can't do anything until it happens, Like you can't like
[1:50:42] Speaker 1: just tell somebody we can't give you a PhD because
[1:50:44] Speaker 1: you're creepy. No.
[1:50:45] Speaker 2: No, it was like that there was all of these
[1:50:48] Speaker 2: people saying they didn't want to be around him, Like
[1:50:50] Speaker 2: why can't that be enough? We've had thirteen formal complaints
[1:50:54] Speaker 2: that thirteen women don't want to be around you, and
[1:50:56] Speaker 2: you make them unkift about so you can't be here.
[1:50:59] Speaker 2: Why do thirteen women have to suffer because it's not illegal,
[1:51:03] Speaker 2: Like I.
[1:51:04] Speaker 3: Don't get I totally agree.
[1:51:06] Speaker 1: I just so like it's like the same way as
[1:51:08] Speaker 1: you can go and say my ex boyfriend has been
[1:51:10] Speaker 1: doing X y Z and stalking me and doing this.
[1:51:13] Speaker 1: If he doesn't touch you or whatever, like then we
[1:51:15] Speaker 1: gotta wait till you get murdered, babe.
[1:51:17] Speaker 3: Sorry, Like you know, it's it's so annoying.
[1:51:20] Speaker 2: And it's like, I bet there's people that don't get
[1:51:23] Speaker 2: to be doctors and don't get to be PhD for
[1:51:25] Speaker 2: many reasons, you know what I mean.
[1:51:27] Speaker 3: It's like, we don't.
[1:51:28] Speaker 2: Think you'd be right for this position. Yeah, you like.
[1:51:32] Speaker 2: I I just don't unders. I don't understand how everyonet
[1:51:37] Speaker 2: to see uncomfortable like people he was interrupting people no respect, wasn't.
[1:51:42] Speaker 1: Like but specifically for women, right, It's just like, specifically
[1:51:47] Speaker 1: that's such a fucking read. But it's always so, it's
[1:51:50] Speaker 1: always the it's always the telltale sign of all of them.
[1:51:56] Speaker 1: I haven't listened to it yet, but Maren was on
[1:51:59] Speaker 1: Maren was on pod Save yeah, or he was just
[1:52:03] Speaker 1: talking to love it, I think maybe by himself. I
[1:52:05] Speaker 1: don't I haven't listened to it yet, but and I
[1:52:07] Speaker 1: actually don't really listen to those guys that much anymore,
[1:52:09] Speaker 1: But I like, I would listen to the Marin one. Uh,
[1:52:13] Speaker 1: and he was trying to talk about this documentary with
[1:52:16] Speaker 1: Joe about Joe Rogan guys and how they get into
[1:52:18] Speaker 1: Joe Rogan. I think it's called Elephant Graveyard. Is that
[1:52:21] Speaker 1: what it's called. And it's basically how these guys get
[1:52:23] Speaker 1: indoctrinated into like the menosphere of like Rogan and Uh.
[1:52:28] Speaker 1: I think Maren just said something funny, like anything that
[1:52:32] Speaker 1: only men like is probably not going to be good.
[1:52:34] Speaker 1: Like if it's something that only men like, it's not
[1:52:37] Speaker 1: going to be good. I was like, Oh, I love that, Yeah,
[1:52:40] Speaker 1: you know, so what I don't know. I don't know
[1:52:42] Speaker 1: what our post mortem is from this episode. It's like,
[1:52:44] Speaker 1: don't lie, don't lie about don't rape, don't but also
[1:52:48] Speaker 1: you should have enthusiastic consent. Oh I did write a
[1:52:53] Speaker 1: DA in Utah.
[1:52:54] Speaker 2: I went to their website. I wrote a crazy message,
[1:52:58] Speaker 2: but basically, a cop raped a woman and the DA
[1:53:02] Speaker 2: doesn't want a pro isn't taking it to court because
[1:53:05] Speaker 2: he said no isn't some magical word?
[1:53:08] Speaker 3: Oh my god?
[1:53:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, so I guess saying no doesn't mean the yeah,
[1:53:13] Speaker 2: rape isn't like rape should be legal according to this DA.
[1:53:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, oh my god.
[1:53:20] Speaker 1: I just think we need to teach the youth like
[1:53:22] Speaker 1: whoever you're having sex with should be having a time cheaf.
[1:53:26] Speaker 2: Chief Deputy Attorney Ryan Shaan s h a U M.
[1:53:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's up there with you can't get pregnant from
[1:53:36] Speaker 1: rape and legitimate rape and all those other comments.
[1:53:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like Republican.
[1:53:41] Speaker 2: It's so insidious and it's like the guys won't It's
[1:53:46] Speaker 2: it's like living in a twilight zone where it's like
[1:53:50] Speaker 2: you don't think we're people and all of the policy
[1:53:55] Speaker 2: and history and everything is evidence of it and you
[1:53:58] Speaker 2: ignore it.
[1:53:59] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[1:54:00] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, whatever, tell us appos Morten.
[1:54:04] Speaker 3: Let's move on to what would Sister Peg do.
[1:54:06] Speaker 1: This is our weekly segment where we give you, guys
[1:54:09] Speaker 1: resources or link you to a duck or something interesting
[1:54:14] Speaker 1: that will give you more information about.
[1:54:16] Speaker 3: What we talked about in today's episode.
[1:54:19] Speaker 1: And we've already pointed out like no you'r nine and
[1:54:21] Speaker 1: end campus Rape and the Hunting Ground documentary and stuff.
[1:54:24] Speaker 1: So this week where we'd like to point you to
[1:54:26] Speaker 1: the campus sexual Violence resource list on the website for
[1:54:29] Speaker 1: the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. There's statistics for campus
[1:54:33] Speaker 1: sexual assault preventative measures, campus policy information, information regarding the
[1:54:37] Speaker 1: correlation between alcohol you send sexual violence perpetration. Just it's
[1:54:41] Speaker 1: like a list of a lot of good information if
[1:54:43] Speaker 1: you're looking for more information, or if you happen to
[1:54:45] Speaker 1: work in higher ed and you know need resources. I'm
[1:54:48] Speaker 1: sure most colleges have this coverboard, but then again I
[1:54:51] Speaker 1: think some don't.
[1:54:52] Speaker 3: As you know, many don't.
[1:54:54] Speaker 1: So for more information you can go to NSVRC dot
[1:54:58] Speaker 1: org and that will be post in our show notes
[1:55:01] Speaker 1: and as a story the day that these episodes come out.
