It's been 12 years since Korra ended and 225 years since she destroyed the world! Katie and Jordan stay up until way past their bedtime to catch the premiere of Avatar: Seven Havens as soon as it dropped, which was at the very specific time of 12:11 a.m. for some reason. Tears were shed in the final moments of the premiere chapter "On the Horizon" and the back half of the episode sunk its hooks into Jordan, who is officially onboard, even if the animation is freaking him out a little bit. Katie claims Geet is mostly cat, with very little monkey to be found (except opposable thumbs and a prehensile tail?) and Jordan still can't get over the domestic cat sounds Geet makes, but maintains that its way better than Naga ever was. Jordan's ears pick up on an early Easter Egg from Book One: Water and feels like the smartest boy in the world. [0:02] SPEAKER_02: I didn't think they could do it, and they did it.
[0:04] SPEAKER_02: And that's that's on me.
[0:05] SPEAKER_02: That's on me.
[0:06] SPEAKER_02: You didn't believe.
[0:07] SPEAKER_02: I wanted to believe that the Avatar would return.
[0:11] SPEAKER_02: And she has.

[0:19] SPEAKER_02: We are getting right into the very first episode of Avatar Seven Havens in this episode.
[0:24] SPEAKER_02: We talk about the big reveal at the very end.
[0:27] SPEAKER_02: We talk about how I was feeling a little iffy about the series, about the halfway point, and then it just turned right around for me.
[0:36] SPEAKER_00: You know, we stayed up late.
[0:38] SPEAKER_00: Some of us are sleep deprived, but we're giving it our all.
[0:41] SPEAKER_02: It was worth it.
[0:42] SPEAKER_02: It felt celebratory, so thank you for being here and celebrating with us as we begin Avatar Seven Havens.
[0:51] SPEAKER_00: Woo!
[0:52] SPEAKER_02: Let's go! Welcome to Yip Ya Poray and Avatar Podcast.
[1:09] SPEAKER_02: I'm Jordan, an official Nickelodeon Avatar, The Last Airbender, super fan, joined by Katie, who is married to an official Avatar superfan.
[1:23] SPEAKER_00: You married me?
[1:24] SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's let's cut the mustard.
[1:27] SPEAKER_02: We're diving right into it.
[1:28] SPEAKER_02: We're going into the very first episode, Book One, Survival of Avatar Seven Havens, Chapter 1 on the Horizon.
[1:38] SPEAKER_02: Friends, yippers, if you have not yet watched this episode, we're spoil.
[1:42] SPEAKER_02: It's just gonna be full of spoilers.
[1:44] SPEAKER_02: It's a leaky bucket.
[1:46] SPEAKER_00: Which I'm into.
[1:46] SPEAKER_00: So, okay, first and foremost, this was our first like midnight showing.
[1:52] SPEAKER_00: We stayed up way past our bedtime to to watch it as the the clock struck midnight.
[2:00] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, our carriage, our carriage turned into a pumpkin.
[2:02] SPEAKER_02: I lost my shoe.
[2:04] SPEAKER_00: We're still looking for it.
[2:05] SPEAKER_00: And then it's like midnight happens, nothing's happening, 12.01, 12.02.
[2:10] SPEAKER_00: It was like, okay, well, clearly it's not happening.
[2:13] SPEAKER_02: Because obviously we were like, okay, midnight, awesome, here we go.
[2:17] SPEAKER_02: And then we were like, ooh, 12.01.
[2:20] SPEAKER_02: That seems like an appropriate time.
[2:21] SPEAKER_02: Nothing.
[2:22] SPEAKER_02: Bupkiss.
[2:23] SPEAKER_02: I have to go on Reddit to find camaraderie.
[2:26] SPEAKER_02: And then I finally see someone like at 1210 say, I'm in.
[2:31] SPEAKER_00: So thankfully, it was not in vain.
[2:36] SPEAKER_00: And 1210, we started.
[2:39] SPEAKER_02: But don't you feel like there's a lot of camaraderie right now with a bunch of people who are probably people on the East Coast, because we're on the West Coast of the US, who are up at 3 a.m.
[2:48] SPEAKER_02: right now.
[2:49] SPEAKER_00: That's true.
[2:50] SPEAKER_00: I imagine there are so many people that are really excited.
[2:52] SPEAKER_00: I'm excited.
[2:53] SPEAKER_00: I'm excited.
[2:54] SPEAKER_00: I'm really happy that we watched it and I'm excited to talk about it.
[2:58] SPEAKER_02: This feels like the energy is New Year's Eve for me.
[3:02] SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, the the old year was yesterday, October 8th.
[3:06] SPEAKER_02: We're in a new year, a new avatar cycle.
[3:10] SPEAKER_00: Oh, like New Horizon.
[3:12] SPEAKER_00: Okay.
[3:13] SPEAKER_02: On the horiz seven horizons.
[3:16] SPEAKER_00: You know what?
[3:16] SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say it's tomorrow.
[3:19] SPEAKER_02: Your girl ain't ready to be up so late.
[3:21] SPEAKER_00: It's true.
[3:22] SPEAKER_00: But that's okay.
[3:23] SPEAKER_02: Here we go.
[3:24] SPEAKER_02: They got it.
[3:25] SPEAKER_02: They still got it.
[3:27] SPEAKER_02: They stuck the landing.
[3:29] SPEAKER_00: I we both teared up at the end.
[3:33] SPEAKER_00: They definitely stuck the landing.
[3:34] SPEAKER_00: So, okay, right out the gate.
[3:38] SPEAKER_02: Cold open.
[3:38] SPEAKER_02: We get a cold open.
[3:39] SPEAKER_02: We don't get we don't get the the whole spiel.
[3:42] SPEAKER_02: Maybe that's coming in episode two.
[3:44] SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's I feel like it could be coming.
[3:46] SPEAKER_00: It could be, but with the reveal of two Avatars.
[3:52] SPEAKER_00: I mean, twin power.
[3:53] SPEAKER_02: I'm all about it.
[3:54] SPEAKER_02: Okay, we talked about twin power earlier.
[3:57] SPEAKER_02: I uh am really embarrassed.
[3:59] SPEAKER_02: If you listen to our previous episode, we talk we talked twins.
[4:02] SPEAKER_02: The only thing I could come up with in my my chocolate milk of a brain was the parent trap.
[4:08] SPEAKER_02: Katie, I have a list of twins and twin stories that I'd like to read to you right now.
[4:13] SPEAKER_00: A list, like uh just a list.
[4:16] SPEAKER_00: Or a list of twins that you're into.
[4:18] SPEAKER_02: A list of the twins I'm into.
[4:20] SPEAKER_02: Okay, let's hear it.
[4:21] SPEAKER_02: And twins! Luke Skywalker and Leah Organa.
[4:27] SPEAKER_02: Fred and George Weasley.
[4:29] SPEAKER_02: R.I.P.
[4:29] SPEAKER_02: Fred.
[4:30] SPEAKER_02: Fred?
[4:30] SPEAKER_02: George.
[4:31] SPEAKER_02: Fred.
[4:31] SPEAKER_02: Fred dies.
[4:32] SPEAKER_02: Spoiler alert.
[4:33] SPEAKER_02: Snape kills Dumbledore.
[4:35] SPEAKER_02: Alright, yeah.
[4:36] SPEAKER_02: Dipper and Mabel Pines.
[4:38] SPEAKER_02: Except, oh, I did write Mabel.
[4:40] SPEAKER_02: I thought I wrote Maple.
[4:41] SPEAKER_02: Uh Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
[4:45] SPEAKER_02: I don't know their character names, so I'm just assuming they're twins in real life.
[4:48] SPEAKER_00: Oh, I don't think I've seen that.
[4:49] SPEAKER_02: The twins from The Acolyte.
[4:52] SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
[4:53] SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
[4:53] SPEAKER_02: And then my personal favorite of this list.
[4:57] SPEAKER_02: Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.
[4:59] SPEAKER_00: Mario Mario?
[5:00] SPEAKER_02: That's their last name.
[5:01] SPEAKER_02: Mario.
[5:02] SPEAKER_00: What?
[5:02] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[5:03] SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
[5:04] SPEAKER_02: Okay.
[5:04] SPEAKER_02: The big reveal, this is what, this is what y'all are gonna be talking about.
[5:08] SPEAKER_02: The big reveal, the final scene, it was so emotional.
[5:13] SPEAKER_02: Because I didn't know where Captain Karthik.
[5:15] SPEAKER_02: Karthik?
[5:16] SPEAKER_02: Dad.
[5:17] SPEAKER_02: Jay's dad.
[5:19] SPEAKER_02: I don't know where he was going because at first I was like, uh-oh, can't trust this guy.
[5:23] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, it was like sketch vibes.
[5:25] SPEAKER_00: We were like, I don't know about Jay's Jay's dad.
[5:29] SPEAKER_02: Jay's dad.
[5:30] SPEAKER_02: But then he had the line that choked us up from the trailer about humanity not being ready for the avatar, and it's the world that the it's whether it needs mouth.
[5:39] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[5:39] SPEAKER_02: But then it's cut in, God, they're so they still got it.
[5:44] SPEAKER_02: Cut in.
[5:44] SPEAKER_02: And I knew we were gonna meet Nisha, you know, that was kind of like what we were playing at.
[5:49] SPEAKER_02: But the second I saw that girl bending, because I just thought she would be like an earth bender.
[5:55] SPEAKER_02: Good, like, you know, bait and switch, a little twisty-twisty from the trailers.
[5:59] SPEAKER_02: She's bending it all.
[6:01] SPEAKER_02: She's like a Korra prodigy.
[6:03] SPEAKER_02: She was throwing some fire, she was throwing some earth.
[6:05] SPEAKER_02: Except it was like earth, the earth the earth was a crack.
[6:08] SPEAKER_02: She got water, she was attacking that statue.
[6:10] SPEAKER_02: God, it was good.
[6:12] SPEAKER_02: So you were surprised.
[6:13] SPEAKER_02: I was surprised that she was.
[6:15] SPEAKER_02: I thought we were just gonna like stumble upon her.
[6:19] SPEAKER_02: I was surprised that that girl was bending it all.
[6:21] SPEAKER_02: Bended it like Beckham.
[6:22] SPEAKER_00: Bend it like Beckham.
[6:24] SPEAKER_02: So God, it was so good.
[6:26] SPEAKER_00: Okay, what's up with Jay?
[6:28] SPEAKER_02: Dude, I'm into Jay.
[6:29] SPEAKER_00: Why was Jay so popular?
[6:31] SPEAKER_02: Everyone loves Jay.
[6:32] SPEAKER_02: Because he's clearly very chill.
[6:34] SPEAKER_02: He's got great taste.
[6:35] SPEAKER_02: He loves kimchi.
[6:36] SPEAKER_02: I didn't get the second word.
[6:37] SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
[6:38] SPEAKER_00: I guess Jay's the hot one because I feel like everyone's like, Jay, I love you.
[6:41] SPEAKER_02: I mean, I owe I feel like, you know, the one that's like can only like hug him on his birthday.
[6:46] SPEAKER_02: Damon.
[6:47] SPEAKER_02: Damon.
[6:48] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
[6:48] SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, he was like a you know, attractive too.
[6:52] SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
[6:53] SPEAKER_02: I don't know, but Jay's dad's also pretty hot.
[6:55] SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
[6:56] SPEAKER_02: He's got that, he's got that streaky, streaky hair from from a long, stressful life.
[7:01] SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
[7:02] SPEAKER_02: Jay just strikes me as someone who wants to do good.
[7:04] SPEAKER_02: You know, he was he was he had his clipboard out.
[7:07] SPEAKER_02: He was making notes about, you know, cleaning the gutters or whatever.
[7:11] SPEAKER_02: So he's ambitious, he's a helper.
[7:13] SPEAKER_00: He is.
[7:14] SPEAKER_02: I mean, I will say there was a moment, I don't know, about a halfway point where my my own interest and energy in the series was tanking.
[7:25] SPEAKER_02: I was in my mind, because we were introducing those like I don't know, probably tertiary characters that probably aren't going to factor in too much into the series.
[7:34] SPEAKER_02: But you never know.
[7:35] SPEAKER_02: You never know.
[7:36] SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know, Jay's friends.
[7:38] SPEAKER_00: I wasn't into no, I wasn't really into them either.
[7:40] SPEAKER_00: Cause I was like, it's not gonna be about them, right?
[7:42] SPEAKER_00: Like it's like, oh, we're we start with them, but we're not gonna end with them.
[7:46] SPEAKER_00: I think that's probably correct.
[7:48] SPEAKER_00: Because yeah, I I felt similar.
[7:50] SPEAKER_00: I was like, uh, like I was like excited about it, but then like part way through, I was like, I don't know, but then obviously they got us in the end, which was probably part of their plan.
[8:00] SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so clearly like we've only watched the one episode because we wanted to watch it and record it, so I'm really excited to continue on.
[8:09] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so all you freaks that binged them all, we don't know what happens on the next episode, which I think is called Into the Storm, the next chapter.
[8:17] SPEAKER_00: Okay, wait.
[8:18] SPEAKER_00: Also, it was like tornado like comes down and then they're just like airbending it, or it's like we're gonna like I don't know.
[8:26] SPEAKER_02: You know, if Hercules in night Disney's 1997 Hercules could have learned anything, is that to fight a tornado, you need tornado power.
[8:34] SPEAKER_02: You just need to like punch it.
[8:35] SPEAKER_02: You know, and Twister and Twisters, you know, if they only had an airbender on their team.
[8:40] SPEAKER_02: Or two.
[8:41] SPEAKER_02: Maybe they were like pushing the air to like go in the opposite direction of Aww, and there was a last airbender.
[8:47] SPEAKER_02: Now they're just everywhere.
[8:51] SPEAKER_02: I think the the tornado was interesting to me, and obviously in the world of Avatar, we do play with probably divine intervention a little bit.
[9:01] SPEAKER_02: Maybe not divine intervention, but that kind of idea, you know, acts of providence.
[9:06] SPEAKER_02: I feel like that tornado wasn't an accident.
[9:08] SPEAKER_00: I was gonna ask you if you thought it was like meant to be.
[9:12] SPEAKER_02: I think it's the world's like, you know, the conspiring to have clearly there's something in Jay out of everyone else.
[9:21] SPEAKER_02: You know, those two were destined to meet.
[9:23] SPEAKER_02: He was the one, I think the world's conspired to like have him be the one to introduce Pave into the world.
[9:30] SPEAKER_02: Because, you know, we were talking like her name's Pavi, but at the very beginning, she's like Pave.
[9:36] SPEAKER_00: See, and I thought it was well, yeah, maybe.
[9:39] SPEAKER_00: We'll work on it.
[9:40] SPEAKER_02: I think the tornado, the fact it just like went straight I mean, we watched that tornado go straight into the hole.
[9:46] SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
[9:47] SPEAKER_02: But that that scene is what, you know, I was already like building towards it, but that when the tornado showed up, I mean that was like from there to the end of the episode, divine, fantastic.
[9:58] SPEAKER_02: We get hero moments from Pavee, she's getting things smacked all over her.
[10:02] SPEAKER_02: She's like bruised and bloody, getting beat up.
[10:05] SPEAKER_02: You know, she gets I think when the she has the moment of debating whether or not two airbends really powerful, like you get like that big thing like spiraling toward her, and she has to like think quick about what to do.
[10:16] SPEAKER_02: And I thought that was really it was like really powerful for me.
[10:20] SPEAKER_00: What did you think about her?
[10:22] SPEAKER_00: What would you think about her with like the little bugs?
[10:26] SPEAKER_02: I think it's it it plays back to Aang a little bit.
[10:29] SPEAKER_02: Like Aang early on is a friend to all creatures, all creatures great and small.
[10:34] SPEAKER_02: And you know, Aang being a pacifist, you know, he's always like looking out for the little guy.
[10:38] SPEAKER_02: Unless it's that buzzard wasp that he brutally murders in the desert, but he had some stuff going on.
[10:44] SPEAKER_00: Uh also how long were they harboring the Avatar?
[10:47] SPEAKER_02: Uh Nisha?
[10:48] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[10:49] SPEAKER_02: I probably think probably for some time.
[10:52] SPEAKER_00: Since birth.
[10:53] SPEAKER_02: Maybe, because again, if we go back to the trailer, like it looked like Pave was being separated by someone.
[10:59] SPEAKER_02: So I think something's going on there.
[11:01] SPEAKER_02: So based on the that image of how old they were, I mean it was like toddler age.
[11:06] SPEAKER_02: We're assuming these kids are like 10 or under.
[11:09] SPEAKER_02: So I mean, they've happened for a while.
[11:11] SPEAKER_02: Clearly, and training them.
[11:13] SPEAKER_00: Man.
[11:14] SPEAKER_00: It's exciting.
[11:15] SPEAKER_02: So many mysteries.
[11:17] SPEAKER_00: I know.
[11:17] SPEAKER_00: And like just think of what we're gonna find out.
[11:19] SPEAKER_02: Uh okay, so other things that I caught early on.
[11:22] SPEAKER_02: So while we were, well, in that desperate wait watching the the title screen on Paramount Plus, uh, you made a comment about how there's like so many comets like in the background.
[11:33] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[11:34] SPEAKER_02: So what do you think that's about?
[11:36] SPEAKER_00: Well, I think as you just said that was like, oh, Sozan's comet, obviously.
[11:39] SPEAKER_02: But Sozan's comet's one thing.
[11:41] SPEAKER_02: And but I mean, can you imagine Sozan's Comet comes back like that?
[11:44] SPEAKER_02: Imagine if that played into the like the premiere episode.
[11:49] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know, meteor shower, pretty aesthetic.
[11:53] SPEAKER_02: Nice.
[11:54] SPEAKER_02: Well, friends, yippers, you know, this is gonna be a different series that we're tackle tackling, and so we're gonna have like some other things we're doing.
[12:02] SPEAKER_02: It's 12 50 a.m.
[12:04] SPEAKER_02: our time.
[12:04] SPEAKER_02: We're gonna cold call an Avatar fan.
[12:06] SPEAKER_02: We're gonna cold call my little brother right now.
[12:09] SPEAKER_00: We're gonna see if he answers the phone.
[12:11] SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's do it.
[12:14] SPEAKER_02: How exciting.
[12:15] SPEAKER_02: Anything could happen.
[12:16] SPEAKER_02: He has no idea I'm gonna call him.
[12:19] SPEAKER_02: Wow.
[12:21] unknown: Oh.
[12:22] SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh! Hi, Caden, you're on the podcast.
[12:25] unknown: Oh, hi.
[12:26] SPEAKER_02: Hey, uh, hey uh, yippers.
[12:28] SPEAKER_02: This is my little brother Caden, who you might remember from the episode where we talk about The Last Airbender, which I took him to see on opening day.
[12:35] SPEAKER_02: Kind of like how we waited for opening day for Seven Havens.
[12:37] SPEAKER_02: Caden, do you remember The Last Airbender?
[12:41] SPEAKER_01: The the really, really great movie by Shambalama Lama.
[12:45] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Shambalama Lama.
[12:48] SPEAKER_02: Hey, um, hey, you watching Seven Havens?
[12:51] SPEAKER_01: Uh I mean I haven't gotten around to it just yet, but I plan to.
[12:55] SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, you plan to?
[12:56] SPEAKER_02: It's almost 1 a.m.
[12:57] SPEAKER_02: What are you?
[12:58] SPEAKER_02: Who are you?
[12:59] SPEAKER_02: When are you?
[13:00] SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna get around to it.
[13:01] SPEAKER_02: What at 4 a.m.?
[13:03] SPEAKER_01: No, I don't know, maybe in the morning.
[13:05] SPEAKER_02: Okay, give me a Okay, did you know that it didn't even show up uh until like 1210 a.m.?
[13:12] SPEAKER_01: That's I don't like hearing that.
[13:14] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, and I just sat there and it was so embarrassing and the energy was so high and then it crashed.
[13:20] SPEAKER_02: Hey, um tell tell me.
[13:22] SPEAKER_01: We crashed paramount, that's what I'm asking.
[13:24] SPEAKER_02: We, we as a collective.
[13:25] SPEAKER_02: Okay, give me some hop takes.
[13:27] SPEAKER_02: What do you think's gonna happen in in episode one?
[13:30] SPEAKER_01: You know, I I hope we get some Korra stuff, you know.
[13:33] SPEAKER_01: I hope we can see a little bit, you know, just a little glimpse, you know, tease us in to the season.
[13:40] SPEAKER_02: So you want you want like you want the episode to start and we just see Korra destroying the earth.
[13:45] SPEAKER_01: That would be amazing, right?
[13:46] SPEAKER_02: That would be.
[13:47] SPEAKER_02: Hey, give me one one blurb about Avatar the series, just as a franchise.
[13:53] SPEAKER_01: Uh exhilarating.
[13:55] SPEAKER_02: Oh, that was a quick blurb.
[13:56] SPEAKER_02: That was uh someone even say that's just a word.
[13:59] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean I like the the elemental powers and how each are different and how it plays into people's personalities.
[14:07] SPEAKER_02: Caden and I used to play make-believe where we would have elemental powers, and then Nickelodeon had the gall to take my idea as a you know 13, 14-year-old.
[14:17] SPEAKER_01: And then they sent us uh the uh endian uh the non-sone agreement, you know?
[14:22] SPEAKER_01: And then the season starts right afterwards.
[14:24] SPEAKER_02: Slurring NDA.
[14:25] SPEAKER_02: Is this a bad time to call 1 a.m.?
[14:27] SPEAKER_02: Is it a bad time to call?
[14:28] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm a little tired of thinking about what cards I need to play in this game.
[14:32] SPEAKER_02: Uh use Balatro.
[14:35] SPEAKER_02: Hey Caden, thanks for being our very first guest on Cold Call an Avatar fan.
[14:40] SPEAKER_01: Oh, no problem.
[14:42] SPEAKER_02: Hey, uh, love you.
[14:44] SPEAKER_01: Love you too.
[14:44] SPEAKER_01: Thanks for cold calling me.
[14:46] SPEAKER_02: Hey, guess what?
[14:46] SPEAKER_02: Core is in the series.
[14:48] SPEAKER_01: Bye.
[14:50] unknown: Bye.
[14:51] SPEAKER_01: Good night, Caden.
[14:52] SPEAKER_02: Now that he's off the phone.
[14:53] SPEAKER_02: Well, who knew that that was gonna work?
[14:55] SPEAKER_02: I definitely did not know if somebody was going to answer.
[14:59] SPEAKER_00: Okay, I didn't know what he was doing.
[15:01] SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
[15:01] SPEAKER_00: He's just playing a video game.
[15:03] SPEAKER_02: Anyway, so Caden does bring up a good point.
[15:05] SPEAKER_02: My brother does want to see a little bit of Korra in this episode, and we did.
[15:10] SPEAKER_02: What'd you think about that, Katie?
[15:12] SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm always happy to see Korra.
[15:14] SPEAKER_00: I mean, I wasn't happy that everyone's down on Korra, but I feel like that's just been kind of Korra's thing.
[15:22] SPEAKER_02: From early on.
[15:23] SPEAKER_00: I think, right.
[15:24] SPEAKER_00: She's always rubbed people the wrong way, but that's probably what I like about her.
[15:27] SPEAKER_02: I thought it was pretty bold that we would, you know, we're 225 years removed from Korra, but we are still passionate?
[15:36] SPEAKER_02: Passionate enough that we would have a mask that totally distorts her face into being a monster, but we'll keep her hair cut.
[15:44] SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
[15:45] SPEAKER_00: Like, what was up with that?
[15:48] SPEAKER_00: Uh, so we know it's her.
[15:50] SPEAKER_02: I will say something about the tone of the show, is I I think we are making more of a shift towards more how Avatar the Last Airbender felt and not The Legend of Korra.
[16:02] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[16:03] SPEAKER_02: And I think there were like more little jokes sprinkled in that I appreciated.
[16:09] SPEAKER_00: What did you think about Cat Monkey?
[16:12] SPEAKER_00: Geet?
[16:13] SPEAKER_00: Yes.
[16:14] SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm into Geet.
[16:16] SPEAKER_02: I think Geet is a way more successful character so far than Naga ever was.
[16:22] SPEAKER_02: Sorry, Naga.
[16:24] SPEAKER_02: Dang.
[16:24] SPEAKER_02: I just, you know, Naga never did it for me.
[16:26] SPEAKER_02: Naga just felt and clearly the people working on the series weren't dog people in the legend of Kora.
[16:33] SPEAKER_00: Clearly, but I feel like, I mean, to me, Geet is a cat.
[16:37] SPEAKER_00: I'm not getting monkey vibes.
[16:38] SPEAKER_00: I'm just getting cat.
[16:39] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's just a large.
[16:41] SPEAKER_02: I mean, the cat you can ride.
[16:42] SPEAKER_02: I isn't that any cat?
[16:45] SPEAKER_02: I think Geet's head, I'm gonna say it, I think Geet's head's too big.
[16:48] SPEAKER_00: I think it's definitely too bad.
[16:49] SPEAKER_02: It's a massive head.
[16:51] SPEAKER_02: And I don't like the sounds Geet makes.
[16:55] SPEAKER_02: It's too it's too cat.
[16:56] SPEAKER_02: It's just cat.
[16:58] SPEAKER_02: It's just cat.
[16:58] SPEAKER_02: And it's not even big cat.
[17:00] SPEAKER_02: Like, if I give me some jaguar, again, Bangle Tiger.
[17:03] SPEAKER_02: It's just right.
[17:05] SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's a little uninspired.
[17:08] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[17:08] SPEAKER_00: Again, it's just big cat.
[17:10] SPEAKER_02: The monkey part of Geet is, I think, opposable thumb.
[17:15] SPEAKER_02: And I that it can jump.
[17:18] SPEAKER_02: Because monkeys jump.
[17:19] SPEAKER_02: Cats can't jump.
[17:20] SPEAKER_02: Cats are they're ground, grounded.
[17:23] SPEAKER_02: They're like slugs.
[17:25] SPEAKER_02: What did you think about Geet besides being uninspired?
[17:28] SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm happy that Geet was a helper.
[17:32] SPEAKER_00: I feel like intuitive.
[17:34] SPEAKER_00: It's like I feel like there was good communication with uh with the with the needs are w with the group.
[17:41] SPEAKER_00: And you know, I feel like Geet was an important strategy for like an exit plan.
[17:48] SPEAKER_02: So get me out of here.
[17:49] SPEAKER_00: You know, Geet's a main player.
[17:51] SPEAKER_02: I think Geet and Pave seem like they have more of a relationship than Korra and Naga ever did.
[17:57] SPEAKER_00: Like my God.
[17:58] SPEAKER_00: Let it go.
[17:59] SPEAKER_02: Naga felt like a car, you know.
[18:02] SPEAKER_00: Naga.
[18:03] SPEAKER_00: You know what?
[18:04] SPEAKER_00: I like Naga.
[18:05] SPEAKER_02: Tell me one memory you have of Naga from The Legend of Korra.
[18:09] SPEAKER_00: My memory is how much Naga meant to Korra.
[18:12] SPEAKER_02: How?
[18:13] SPEAKER_02: Give me one instance of that of Naga meaning anything to Korra.
[18:17] SPEAKER_00: Visualize Korra petting Naga, saying she was gonna miss her so much.
[18:23] SPEAKER_00: Because she left her, because she didn't mean anything.
[18:25] SPEAKER_00: Or like they were running.
[18:26] SPEAKER_00: I feel like she wasn't allowed to bring her something.
[18:28] SPEAKER_02: She stole, I think she Naga came with the only the one and almost only thing I remember about Naga is from the pilot of Legend of Korra, Welcome to Republic City, where they're hungry, and Naga sticks her head into like a tent and eats some food, or maybe doesn't eat food.
[18:47] SPEAKER_02: And then the other one is when they're hanging out with Bolin uh Nuctuck, the warrior, and it's Ben Pabu, and they like high five, but it's not even their hand.
[19:00] SPEAKER_00: You know what?
[19:01] SPEAKER_00: Not Naga.
[19:03] SPEAKER_00: Korra was like an angsty teen, and so she couldn't be responsible for her dog polar bear dog.
[19:10] SPEAKER_02: Polar bear dog.
[19:11] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[19:11] SPEAKER_02: Okay, how do you feel about having our Avatar main character girl, Pavi, being younger?
[19:17] SPEAKER_02: I mean, even younger than Aang.
[19:19] SPEAKER_00: Uh, I feel good about it.
[19:21] SPEAKER_00: I think it feels feels right.
[19:24] SPEAKER_00: It feels like there's a lot of potential, I guess.
[19:28] SPEAKER_02: I think so far, like Pave seems like she's she's innocent, she's kind.
[19:33] SPEAKER_02: I think we get a lot of those moments.
[19:35] SPEAKER_02: She has like a heart for justice, which I also appreciate.
[19:38] SPEAKER_02: Looking out for the little guy.
[19:39] SPEAKER_02: Obviously scrappy.
[19:41] SPEAKER_00: Right.
[19:42] SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I do love the irony of them celebrating this, like, you know, festival of the cataclysm or whatever, which is a weird thing to celebrate.
[19:52] SPEAKER_02: Or was it like celebrating the like the development of the seven havens?
[19:55] SPEAKER_00: I it was unclear.
[19:57] SPEAKER_02: Okay, so the festival.
[19:59] SPEAKER_02: But I love the irony of Jay being like, so the avatar, like, nothing's gonna happen today, right?
[20:04] SPEAKER_02: Which I thought was a weird line anyway, for him to be like kind of worried about, like, oh, is the avatar gonna show up after hundreds of years?
[20:12] SPEAKER_02: I mean, we thought Zuko was a little edgy for being like, the avatars have been seen for a hundred years.
[20:19] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no one's seen the avatar for hundreds of years at this point.
[20:22] SPEAKER_00: And Jay being like, so but then I like, what did you think about like the compound where it's like we're bringing all the benders?
[20:30] SPEAKER_02: Alora.
[20:30] SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
[20:31] SPEAKER_02: Well, so what I'm getting at is just the irony of when then Pave being there as the Avatar and Avatar causing chaos and and yeah.
[20:41] SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
[20:42] SPEAKER_02: Alora, I was worried with this world being in this post-apocalyptic setting that it would be kind of drab, and I did think it was gonna have like an innate heaviness, like even heavier vibe to it.
[20:56] SPEAKER_02: Like everything's like dour and destroyed, but I do feel like it did feel hopeful and bright, and like we're just doing the best with what we can.
[21:05] SPEAKER_02: So I did appreciate that.
[21:08] SPEAKER_02: Alora, I did like, I do love the art style.
[21:10] SPEAKER_02: I think Alora was like very colorful.
[21:13] SPEAKER_02: Like you said earlier, clearly very like South Asian, India, Pakistan coded.
[21:20] SPEAKER_02: And I think Brian Kanitsko, one of the co-creators, he gave an interview where he was saying that they were being very intentional with having more characters be coded that way and having more reliance and in inspiration from the South Asian culture.
[21:37] SPEAKER_02: Because the word Avatar is initially Sanskrit.
[21:41] SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah?
[21:42] SPEAKER_02: Right.
[21:43] SPEAKER_02: It's it deals with like Hinduism of like a deity that takes like a mortal form.
[21:48] SPEAKER_02: You know, that's where it comes from.
[21:50] SPEAKER_02: And for them to not really uh dive into that culture as much across two seasons into movie and And then to only do it now is very interesting.
[22:02] SPEAKER_02: So I don't know, like why do you think they skirted away from it away from it for so long?
[22:07] SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's been so long now.
[22:11] SPEAKER_00: I mean, every I don't know.
[22:13] SPEAKER_00: Maybe somebody brought it to their attention.
[22:15] SPEAKER_00: And they're like, yeah, yeah, that's a good idea.
[22:18] SPEAKER_00: I mean, I just think people do all sorts of stuff, and like in hindsight, you're like, hmm.
[22:22] SPEAKER_02: They may have just stumbled into it, just because when you when we reflect on the initial creation of this, like it was, I think, supposed to be like super futuristic, and they were gonna be like manatees and all that.
[22:34] SPEAKER_02: And like kind of the initial idea of Avatar was like, oh, what if this air guys have an issue with these fire guys?
[22:39] SPEAKER_02: And so it was so far removed from that idea of any like relation to Hinduism or what what Avatar is, and then to have it be animated by South Korean companies, I'm sure you just kind of go more East Asian naturally, just being with that influence.
[22:58] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[22:58] SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, anyway.
[23:00] SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think it's a really inspired world so far, and I think it's really it's feeling good.
[23:05] SPEAKER_00: Good.
[23:06] SPEAKER_02: I'm still iffy on the animation, just the way some characters are moving.
[23:10] SPEAKER_02: I'm not totally sold on, but I do love the art direction and just the inspiration for the art.
[23:17] SPEAKER_02: I'm still iffy on the animation.
[23:21] SPEAKER_00: You know, it's the Avatar Superfan.
[23:23] SPEAKER_00: He's just a little nitpeaky.
[23:26] SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed it, I was not distracted by it.
[23:28] SPEAKER_00: I think when you and Caden were not thrilled with the animation and having a little dialogue about that prior to us watching it, I was a little nervous.
[23:40] SPEAKER_00: But watching it, I was I was all in.
[23:43] SPEAKER_00: I I was happy.
[23:44] SPEAKER_02: Well, good.
[23:45] SPEAKER_02: So the art style we kind of talked about earlier.
[23:48] SPEAKER_02: So also interesting that they're having a French company do the majority of the animation, but they're getting a lot of what I have heard, what I've heard, is that a lot of the inspiration for the art is coming from this legendary French surrealist artist named Jean Giraud, which I don't know how to pronounce his name, but he goes by like Mobius.
[24:09] SPEAKER_02: So look this up.
[24:10] SPEAKER_02: He's got these like really interesting, again, kind of like surrealist sci-fi fantasy, crazy beautiful art.
[24:18] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jordan was showing me some artwork earlier, and it is really they were different, they were eye-catching.
[24:25] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's definitely worth a check out search.
[24:28] SPEAKER_02: Mobius.
[24:29] SPEAKER_02: Uh, so something I saw was like they described his art as being, quote, flat yet colorful.
[24:35] SPEAKER_02: What does that mean to you?
[24:36] SPEAKER_02: Flat yet colorful.
[24:37] SPEAKER_02: You do painting and art.
[24:39] SPEAKER_00: Well, something could be flat and colorful.
[24:42] SPEAKER_00: I mean, I feel like I mean, that's a pretty good description to what you showed me, I thought.
[24:47] SPEAKER_00: Well, wait.
[24:47] SPEAKER_00: I was gonna ask you, have you ever watched anything that like any French animation before?
[24:53] SPEAKER_02: I have not.
[24:54] SPEAKER_02: I'm waiting to watch Arco with you, that French film.
[24:59] SPEAKER_02: All right, well then animated film.
[25:01] SPEAKER_02: I've probably seen something that was French.
[25:04] SPEAKER_02: Uh Marsupalami was Belgian, and that is, you know, there's like French Belgian.
[25:10] SPEAKER_00: It's The Little Prince, is that one?
[25:12] SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
[25:12] SPEAKER_02: Okay.
[25:13] SPEAKER_02: Well, we did watch that.
[25:15] SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
[25:16] SPEAKER_02: Okay, a couple little little trinkets that I saw in episode one on the horizon.
[25:21] SPEAKER_02: So, really quick.
[25:22] SPEAKER_02: So the two guards that we meet throughout throughout the episode that are just hanging out, giving very fun color commentary.
[25:29] SPEAKER_02: The very first thing that they are doing is one of them is whistling.
[25:38] SPEAKER_02: Does that sound familiar at all to you?
[25:40] SPEAKER_00: Uh, I did think it was a a song, and I was gonna say it out loud, uh, but I didn't, and I'm sure it's not what you're gonna tell me what it is.
[25:48] SPEAKER_02: It is a song.
[25:49] SPEAKER_02: It's from Book One Water After Our Last Airbender.
[25:52] SPEAKER_02: It's the song Iroh sings with the crew of the ship.
[25:56] SPEAKER_02: It's like winter, spring, summer, and fall.
[26:02] SPEAKER_00: Do you remember that?
[26:03] SPEAKER_02: Like the crew's like dancing.
[26:06] SPEAKER_02: Anyway.
[26:07] SPEAKER_02: So that was a callback to that, and I was really I felt like the smartest man in the world for catching that.
[26:14] SPEAKER_02: Like, I know this song.
[26:16] SPEAKER_02: Uh, something else I enjoyed when we go to Pave's like orb house, which looked like a ball of yarn.
[26:22] SPEAKER_02: Whoa, is it a ball of yarn because she's got a monkey cat?
[26:25] SPEAKER_00: It's just a cat.
[26:26] SPEAKER_02: Her cat with a giant head.
[26:28] SPEAKER_02: Uh, when she said meet the family.
[26:31] SPEAKER_02: I thought that was uh mostly cute, a little sad.
[26:34] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[26:35] SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was Aladdin vibes, right?
[26:38] SPEAKER_02: Oh, you're getting Aladdin vibes from Pavee.
[26:40] SPEAKER_02: So who's the genie gonna be?
[26:42] SPEAKER_02: Rava, Nisha?
[26:44] SPEAKER_00: Jay.
[26:45] SPEAKER_02: Jay.
[26:46] SPEAKER_02: Jay's dad.
[26:47] SPEAKER_02: Okay, and what'd you think about the the soundtracks so far?
[26:50] SPEAKER_02: Like, I did were you picking up on the synth?
[26:52] SPEAKER_00: No, I was not.
[26:54] SPEAKER_00: Uh I was not overanalyzing the music.
[26:57] SPEAKER_00: I was a little distracted at the beginning because I felt like the music was like a lot louder than I don't know why.
[27:04] SPEAKER_00: I just felt like I was being like blown away by the music.
[27:08] SPEAKER_02: Well, maybe because it was like we didn't even get into the title, the theme sequence.
[27:13] SPEAKER_02: We just went right into the show, which felt real weird.
[27:16] SPEAKER_02: And then there was kind of like a harsh cut to you know the white screen with book one survival.
[27:22] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[27:22] SPEAKER_02: That was kind of a harsh cut for me.
[27:24] SPEAKER_00: Right.
[27:24] SPEAKER_00: No, me too.
[27:25] SPEAKER_00: But yeah, no, I think I I like the music, and I don't know, I just was uh a little, I think just taken back at the beginning, but then I adjusted and I loved it.
[27:35] SPEAKER_02: So here's overall my feelings on what we have as a show so far.
[27:41] SPEAKER_02: Until the very end, I was watching it feeling like it didn't feel like a continuation of the tone and what we were doing with Legend of Korra.
[27:50] SPEAKER_02: And by extension, Last Airbender, because those two series are kind of like two sides of like the same coin, and this episode definitely shows like this is a fresh start for the series.
[28:01] SPEAKER_02: You know, having such a time lapse, a like a huge break in time, not only in the real world, it's been like, you know, 12 years since the series, since Korra ended, you know, and in the world.
[28:14] SPEAKER_02: And so I think it's giving the opportunity for a clean break.
[28:19] SPEAKER_02: It feels like a brand new, a brand new world, a brand new series.
[28:23] SPEAKER_00: I swear you said it's been 12 years since Korra.
[28:26] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, since Korra ended.
[28:28] SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
[28:29] SPEAKER_00: I thought you meant in the story.
[28:31] SPEAKER_00: Okay.
[28:32] SPEAKER_00: See?
[28:32] SPEAKER_02: It's all good.
[28:33] SPEAKER_00: Hey, it's like what, 5 a.m.?
[28:37] SPEAKER_02: Oh, and the one last thing that we saw in the old world ruins, which I don't know where we were in.
[28:44] SPEAKER_02: Do you think we're in like a pro-bending place?
[28:46] SPEAKER_02: Anyway, it looked like a bench with an advertisement for Korra on it.
[28:51] SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
[28:51] SPEAKER_00: I saw that.
[28:52] SPEAKER_02: Which I thought was pretty funny.
[28:54] unknown: Korra.
[28:55] SPEAKER_02: Well, we got it.
[28:57] SPEAKER_02: We got there in the end.
[28:59] SPEAKER_02: You were hooked immediately.
[29:02] SPEAKER_02: You know, it took this cold, cold hard a little bit to warm up, but yeah, I had tears.
[29:07] SPEAKER_02: I ultimately am feeling very optimistic about the direction of the series.
[29:13] SPEAKER_02: And I think the characters that we have been introduced to are very interesting and strong so far.
[29:18] SPEAKER_02: At least the ones that we know are probably going to be main characters.
[29:22] SPEAKER_00: I think that there is love happening at Avatar Studios, and I think that this series feels to me like it is for the real ones.
[29:36] SPEAKER_00: This is for the real fans.
[29:38] SPEAKER_00: This is a it's not a live action, it's not, you know, these other things.
[29:43] SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is like a continuation of what this is all about.
[29:47] SPEAKER_02: And like almost like a reimagining or like a reintroduction.
[29:51] SPEAKER_00: Right.
[29:51] SPEAKER_00: And and hopefully is like better funded and supported and all these things.
[29:58] SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I think it's it's really I'm excited to see what happens and to watch episode two.
[30:06] SPEAKER_02: Well, what do you think's gonna happen in episode two and beyond?
[30:09] SPEAKER_00: Oh, I think we're gonna learn more about Jay, more about the twins, more about dad, and um Jay's dad.
[30:16] SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
[30:17] SPEAKER_00: And find out what's up with the cat.
[30:19] SPEAKER_02: I mean, I it was interesting because we don't really have any sense of what the conflicts of this series is going to be.
[30:26] SPEAKER_00: But I feel like there is a little bit of tension because it's like, right, why are we?
[30:32] SPEAKER_00: I mean, we all know why we would be taking benders from their homes, but it's like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[30:37] SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was very like optimistic, like, no, no, we're not it's for the cops.
[30:42] SPEAKER_00: It's for the cause, and you know, we're praising mom for letting the kid go, and I don't know, I feel like there's gonna be some skeletons.
[30:51] SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
[30:52] SPEAKER_02: Well, and the fact that Jay made this comment about fewer benders being born, so I'm curious with the world being so out of balance, if like humanity is like losing touch with its like spiritual abilities or something.
[31:03] SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
[31:04] SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
[31:05] SPEAKER_02: So it is interesting that you mentioned that.
[31:06] SPEAKER_02: So like a lot of the tension from the show, it feels like maybe in this moment is coming from the mysteries that we are introducing and not necessarily setting up conflict between two characters or two entities, which I think is a fun direction.
[31:21] SPEAKER_02: You know, the premiere of Last Airbender, you clearly have Zuko and Iroh being like, catch the avatar, and Cora, you get like the the equalists like showing up, and so you get a little bit, but this one didn't have anything.
[31:35] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[31:36] SPEAKER_02: So man.
[31:38] SPEAKER_02: I am excited.
[31:40] SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Katie, for staying up until tomorrow to watch this with me.
[31:46] SPEAKER_00: Are you seeing my eyes my eyes crossed?
[31:48] SPEAKER_02: Uh Katie fell asleep about 10 minutes ago.
[31:52] SPEAKER_00: But I'm back.
[31:53] SPEAKER_02: Well, friends, we are going to watch the next episode as soon as we can for another episode.
[31:59] SPEAKER_02: So, Yip Yippers, we did it.
[32:01] SPEAKER_02: We're here.
[32:02] SPEAKER_02: We did it, we yipped! We've officially started Avatar Seven Havens.
[32:07] SPEAKER_02: For those of you who've been with Avatar since the beginning, welcome.
[32:11] SPEAKER_02: Who knew?
[32:12] SPEAKER_02: Who even knew we would get a sequel series?
[32:14] SPEAKER_02: Who knew we'd get two sequel series and a movie?
[32:17] SPEAKER_02: And for those of you who were just being introduced to Avatar, welcome.
[32:21] SPEAKER_02: Everybody's welcome at the Jasmine Dragon.
[32:24] SPEAKER_02: Pull up a cup of oolong tea.
[32:25] SPEAKER_02: Let's talk.
[32:27] SPEAKER_02: Aw, that's sweet.
[32:28] SPEAKER_02: Until next time, friends.
[32:30] SPEAKER_02: Yep, yep.
[32:35] SPEAKER_00: I can't make any noise.
[32:39] SPEAKER_00: Good night.
[32:55] SPEAKER_00: I M O U S E T E D.
[33:00] SPEAKER_02: Calibrated.
