We tackle some history in this episode with Book Three chapters 5: The Beach and 6: The Avatar and the Fire Lord. Nobody can agree on how many Wiggles there are. Troy says “Zuko is finally out of the closet”(?) Katie isn’t happy with “The Beach” because characters were objectified, body-shamed and featured aging women as sight gags. Jordan feels like Lo and Li were stripped of their character in favor of spouting proverbs. Jordan and Katie are bothered that Zuko and Mai have one of the shows only romances and it drips of toxicity in this episode. Erik von Detten makes out with Azula. Zuko’s assassin is revealed to be modeled as the “Anti-Aang”. Katie questions how Roku and Sozin were friends and theorizes the whole 100-Year War could have been avoided has Sozin explored outside the borders of the Fire Nation. Katie wonders if Sozin thought he was going to be the Avatar. Troy discusses the altered relationship between Aang and Zuko after the royal lineage is revealed. Jordan waxes poetic about portraits of previous Fire Lords not named Sozin, especially one who has mustache for days. Click here to send us a voice memo we may play on a future episode!

[0:02] SPEAKER_04: This is what we This is Yuppie.
[0:06] SPEAKER_04: Hooray! It's our podcast.
[0:18] SPEAKER_04: Well, so we just learned a thing about Katie and Troy is that they're apparently really into the wiggles.
[0:23] SPEAKER_01: No, they weren't.
[0:24] SPEAKER_04: No, just Troy was.
[0:25] SPEAKER_01: Okay, and I was apparently walking by the TV and I was like, what is going on?
[0:29] SPEAKER_01: And so we would just reference salad.
[0:34] SPEAKER_04: Yum, yum.
[0:35] SPEAKER_04: And I was like, what are you guys singing?
[0:36] SPEAKER_04: It's fruit salad, yummy, yummy.
[0:38] SPEAKER_04: Everyone knows that.
[0:40] SPEAKER_04: Except for the Petersons.
[0:41] SPEAKER_01: I don't think we're really singing it.
[0:42] SPEAKER_01: It was just like it was more like chanting, like fruit salad.
[0:46] SPEAKER_04: Wait, wait, okay, do the chant.
[0:47] SPEAKER_04: I want to hear how that sounds.
[0:49] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[0:49] SPEAKER_01: Ready, Try?
[0:52] SPEAKER_05: Fruit salad.
[0:53] SPEAKER_05: Yummy, yummy.
[0:55] SPEAKER_01: See, Troy can't even do it.
[0:56] SPEAKER_01: He's revisioning it.
[0:57] SPEAKER_01: No, see, we can't even do it right.
[0:59] SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
[1:00] SPEAKER_05: Fruit salad.
[1:01] SPEAKER_05: Yum yum.
[1:02] SPEAKER_05: That's it.
[1:03] SPEAKER_01: No, that's not it now.
[1:04] SPEAKER_04: Fruit salad, yum, yum.
[1:06] SPEAKER_04: Is that is that close?
[1:07] SPEAKER_03: Wait, wait.
[1:08] SPEAKER_03: Oh, look, a banana.
[1:09] SPEAKER_03: Mmm.
[1:10] SPEAKER_03: Oh, look, a banana.
[1:12] SPEAKER_03: First, you want to peel your banana.
[1:14] SPEAKER_03: And you want to use a plastic knife while you do it.
[1:16] SPEAKER_01: Fruit salad.
[1:17] SPEAKER_03: Yum.
[1:18] SPEAKER_03: No, I don't.
[1:18] SPEAKER_01: It's gone because you played that song.
[1:20] SPEAKER_01: I ruined your memory.
[1:21] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's great.
[1:22] SPEAKER_01: Alright.
[1:23] SPEAKER_01: I've never seen the wiggles.
[1:25] SPEAKER_01: There's like five men talking about fruit salads.
[1:28] SPEAKER_04: It's always good when you have five men talking about a fruit salad.
[1:31] SPEAKER_05: There's a hell of a bachelor party right there.
[1:32] SPEAKER_01: Is that every time there's five of them?
[1:35] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's that is there?
[1:36] SPEAKER_01: Is there's four?
[1:37] SPEAKER_05: I thought it's four inches.
[1:38] SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
[1:38] SPEAKER_05: You didn't you didn't have a bachelor party, did you?
[1:41] SPEAKER_04: No, I didn't have a bachelor party.
[1:42] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, neither did I.
[1:43] SPEAKER_05: So I really have no idea what's like the minimum people you're supposed to have a bachelor party.
[1:47] SPEAKER_04: It's not a minimum you have to fill.
[1:48] SPEAKER_04: There's not a quota.
[1:48] SPEAKER_04: You're like, well, this is not a bachelor party.
[1:50] SPEAKER_04: This is two dudes hanging.
[1:51] SPEAKER_04: This is just a hangout.
[1:53] SPEAKER_04: Five dudes hanging.
[1:54] SPEAKER_04: Okay, the wiggles, I don't believe five dudes hanging.
[1:58] SPEAKER_01: Bachelor party and the wiggles.
[1:59] SPEAKER_04: I'm not sure what Well, Troy sees any group of a sizable amount of men.
[2:05] SPEAKER_04: He's like, oh, this is a bachelor party.
[2:06] SPEAKER_04: Like we took Troy to a gay bar once.
[2:08] SPEAKER_04: He's like, God, this is a really big bachelor party in here.
[2:12] SPEAKER_04: And everyone's so friendly.
[2:14] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[2:15] SPEAKER_01: No, but seriously, what's the wiggles about?
[2:17] SPEAKER_04: I think it's like four Australian men who I don't know if that fifth guy was a sanctioned member of the Wiggles.
[2:25] SPEAKER_04: It was a chef.
[2:26] SPEAKER_04: He was a chef, Troy.
[2:27] SPEAKER_04: That's what the hat was.
[2:28] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so they always cook.
[2:29] SPEAKER_04: I don't know if they always.
[2:31] SPEAKER_04: I don't think they cook.
[2:32] SPEAKER_05: Troy, you watch the wiggles.
[2:33] SPEAKER_05: No, I didn't actually.
[2:34] SPEAKER_05: I was more into roly polyoli.
[2:36] SPEAKER_04: Oh, you definitely saw it around.
[2:39] SPEAKER_04: Not PB and J.
[2:40] SPEAKER_04: Otter.
[2:40] SPEAKER_04: Use your noodle.
[2:41] unknown: Oh man.
[2:42] SPEAKER_01: Noodle.
[2:43] SPEAKER_01: Do the noodle.
[2:45] SPEAKER_04: That's incorrect.
[2:46] SPEAKER_04: It's noodle.
[2:48] SPEAKER_04: Use your noodle.
[2:49] SPEAKER_04: Noodle.
[2:50] SPEAKER_04: Do the noodle dance.
[2:51] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2:52] SPEAKER_04: And they're like tripping out.
[2:53] SPEAKER_04: And it's always like the one, like the the like the skeptical brothers, like always he's considering it.
[2:58] SPEAKER_04: He's like, mmm, and then gets roped in.
[3:00] SPEAKER_01: Oh man, I can't remember now.
[3:01] SPEAKER_04: Kids' shows are so dumb.
[3:03] SPEAKER_05: Due to my addictive personality, like I would sit in front of that TV and watch Disney Channel until I hated myself.
[3:10] SPEAKER_05: I'm just like I'm watching reruns.
[3:12] SPEAKER_05: It's one o'clock in the afternoon.
[3:13] SPEAKER_05: Troy, snap out of it, but I can't.
[3:15] SPEAKER_05: I gotta watch Timon and Pumba.
[3:16] SPEAKER_05: This is like 24-year-old Troy.
[3:18] SPEAKER_01: Followed by I feel like I had a similar experience.
[3:21] SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't really want to be watching this right now.
[3:23] SPEAKER_05: Oh, but just and then every night they had the Mickey Mouse Club, and it was uh it was really a roll of the dice where they were gonna do um a small act with all the kids, or if they were gonna play a Disney cartoon.
[3:35] SPEAKER_05: I just remember every one of those nights where they did like a small act by the kids.
[3:39] SPEAKER_05: A small act.
[3:40] SPEAKER_05: Is that a skit?
[3:41] SPEAKER_05: Or what's it?
[3:42] SPEAKER_05: Yes, a skit from the 1950s using the musketeers.
[3:45] SPEAKER_05: I remember I just get the Musketeers?
[3:47] SPEAKER_01: Not musketeers, but musketeers.
[3:49] SPEAKER_01: Musketeers.
[3:50] SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
[3:50] SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
[3:51] SPEAKER_05: This is the 25-year-old me trying to figure it out.
[3:54] SPEAKER_01: Okay, what about the 28-year-old yeah?
[3:59] SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
[4:00] SPEAKER_01: What are you trying to figure out?
[4:02] SPEAKER_01: Remember out of the box?
[4:03] SPEAKER_03: Out of the box.
[4:04] SPEAKER_03: Oh yes.
[4:06] SPEAKER_03: Out of the box.
[4:07] SPEAKER_03: Out of the box.
[4:09] SPEAKER_03: Take one box, put it on another.
[4:12] SPEAKER_03: Don't remember them.
[4:13] SPEAKER_01: Okay, anyway, obviously we watched Disney Channel and not a lot of Nickelodeon, and based on the past two episodes.
[4:18] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so.
[4:19] SPEAKER_01: What do you mean the past two episodes?
[4:20] SPEAKER_01: Avatar and the format fire Foyer Lord.
[4:22] SPEAKER_01: Okay, fine.
[4:23] SPEAKER_04: That's a fantastic episode.
[4:24] SPEAKER_04: That's top-tier Avatar, Katie.
[4:27] SPEAKER_04: Hold on.
[4:27] SPEAKER_04: Hi, welcome to Yip Yiporae.
[4:29] SPEAKER_04: No, wait, an Avatar.
[4:30] SPEAKER_04: Troy!
[4:31] SPEAKER_01: Go Troy! Welcome! No, Troy's gonna do it.
[4:34] SPEAKER_01: Okay, summon.
[4:35] SPEAKER_01: Okay, Troy, go ahead.
[4:36] SPEAKER_05: Hi, and welcome back to an Avatar podcast.
[4:39] SPEAKER_05: The Avatar Podcast.
[4:40] SPEAKER_05: No, it's all of it.
[4:42] SPEAKER_05: All of it's wrong.
[4:43] SPEAKER_05: Yip yapre, Avatar Podcast.
[4:45] SPEAKER_01: Say it more monotone.
[4:46] SPEAKER_04: Yip yet yippa Avatar Podcast.
[4:48] SPEAKER_04: Yum yum hooray, a Wiggles podcast, the sequel series.
[4:52] SPEAKER_04: This is Troy.
[4:54] SPEAKER_04: And then our main host of the show.
[4:56] SPEAKER_04: Everything is devolved.
[4:58] SPEAKER_04: Okay, he's chanting about fruits at the next meeting.
[5:02] SPEAKER_05: We've all lost our minds.
[5:06] SPEAKER_01: Okay, start again.
[5:07] SPEAKER_04: So we watched The Beach.
[5:09] SPEAKER_04: Troy is everyone, everyone at this table, all six of us, we're on a different wavelength.
[5:16] SPEAKER_04: Yes, we are.
[5:16] SPEAKER_04: Everyone has their own agenda at this table.
[5:19] SPEAKER_01: Hi, welcome back to the show.
[5:21] SPEAKER_01: This is uh Yip Yip Hooray and Avatar Podcast, and I'm joined by Troy Peterson and Jordan Wolf.
[5:30] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's me, Jordan.
[5:32] SPEAKER_02: And uh.
[5:33] SPEAKER_02: And uh this time we're on uh book three, fire.
[5:36] SPEAKER_02: For some reason I thought you were impersonating May.
[5:39] SPEAKER_04: Troy sounds like Gavin Newsom, the governor of California.
[5:42] SPEAKER_04: Do I really?
[5:43] SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I'm Katie, and yeah, we just watched two episodes.
[5:48] SPEAKER_01: Wow, we watched one was good and one was okay.
[5:54] SPEAKER_04: We watched chapter five, The Beach, and Chapter Six, The Avatar and the Fire Lord.
[5:59] SPEAKER_04: And can I just say that I would like to uh take back what I said about the Painted Lady in the last episode about being my least favorite book three episode.
[6:09] SPEAKER_04: Because I clearly forgot about the beach and just how terrible that episode is.
[6:14] SPEAKER_01: Hey, you can't talk about it yet.
[6:16] SPEAKER_01: We gotta get Troy's opinion.
[6:18] SPEAKER_05: Oh.
[6:20] SPEAKER_05: You forgot how terrible the beach is, and no wonder you said, oh, Troy's gonna love this episode.
[6:25] SPEAKER_04: Well, because I know that Troy's got beef.
[6:26] SPEAKER_04: Troy's got beef with Zuko right now, and it's a Zuko heavy episode.
[6:30] SPEAKER_01: And Troy usually likes the episodes you don't like.
[6:33] SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's true.
[6:34] SPEAKER_05: Did you love the beach?
[6:35] SPEAKER_05: For some reason it didn't bother me that Zuko was in it.
[6:37] SPEAKER_05: It was just I all I I have a lot to say, and then at the same time I have nothing to say about the beach.
[6:43] SPEAKER_05: Okay, then let's go with the path of having lots to say.
[6:45] SPEAKER_05: If you had lots to say, Okay, fine.
[6:47] SPEAKER_05: Say it.
[6:48] SPEAKER_05: Zuko finally comes out of the closet and What?
[6:51] SPEAKER_05: And yeah, well not that Zuko comes out of the closet.
[6:54] SPEAKER_04: Was it at a bachelor party, Troy?
[6:57] SPEAKER_05: Let him speak, let him speak.
[6:59] SPEAKER_05: Okay.
[6:59] SPEAKER_05: No, but you just find out, you know, he's he's angry at at somebody, just can't figure out who is just angry, he's just angry, he's just angry.
[7:07] SPEAKER_05: And this is about three quarters into the episode, yeah, of course I'm jumping, but he finally admits he's angry at himself, and I just kept thinking, Well, about time, Zuko, you admitted it.
[7:16] SPEAKER_05: He's been growing this whole series and he's finally admitting to himself how much he hates himself.
[7:21] SPEAKER_05: And then you get to learn the back stories of all the girls and uh Well, hold on, let's put a pin in that.
[7:26] SPEAKER_04: What was it like hearing that Zuko admitting that he was angry with himself?
[7:30] SPEAKER_05: That was definitely uh uh him closing one book of his life, and it literally you got to see in his eyes uh that he was literally opening the next book in his life, whatever that may be.
[7:44] SPEAKER_05: And he admits he just likes to tear stuff up.
[7:49] SPEAKER_05: You know, he likes to have his He's his happiest when he's destroying stuff, from what I'm seeing.
[7:55] SPEAKER_05: And at least Yeah, at least we get to move past the fact that he's just not angry at anybody but himself.
[8:01] SPEAKER_04: It is interesting because we see Zuko, he admits that he has literally everything he's ever wanted, which I think is a lie he's telling himself.
[8:08] SPEAKER_04: I think ideally his mother would be around and maybe his father would genuinely love him.
[8:12] SPEAKER_04: Maybe his uncle wouldn't be in jail.
[8:14] SPEAKER_04: Things like that.
[8:16] SPEAKER_04: But yeah, this thing that that Zuko has convinced himself that he needs, his father's love, and it's just not filling that big void in his life.
[8:25] SPEAKER_04: So why do you think Zuko's angry with himself?
[8:28] SPEAKER_05: Uh he probably finally figured out what I've been wondering.
[8:31] SPEAKER_05: When you capture the Avatar, p what are you gonna do with him?
[8:35] SPEAKER_05: And he his he didn't get to capture the Avatar.
[8:38] SPEAKER_05: His sister shoots him in the back.
[8:40] SPEAKER_05: The Avatar in the back.
[8:42] SPEAKER_05: And he finds out the Avatar is still alive, and he goes, Well, everybody thinks he's dead, so I'll just leave that I'll just close that chapter of my life.
[8:50] SPEAKER_05: And now he's just trying to figure out like now what do I do with my life?
[8:54] SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, Yeah, Zuko, now what do you do with your life?
[8:56] SPEAKER_05: And he goes, What do I do with my life?
[8:58] SPEAKER_05: I'm so angry at myself.
[8:59] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Zuko, you're angry at yourself.
[9:01] SPEAKER_05: Now what?
[9:02] SPEAKER_05: And I love the struggle within him.
[9:05] SPEAKER_05: Then he's gotta figure out, okay, what's my next destiny?
[9:08] SPEAKER_05: And it sounds like his next destiny is to figure out how the war started and how he could possibly either end it or finish it for the Fire Nation.
[9:18] SPEAKER_04: It is interesting that he's kind of at that crossroads of like which of his great-grandfather's work is he going to end up fulfilling.
[9:27] SPEAKER_05: Yes.
[9:28] SPEAKER_04: And so that's like a weird point too.
[9:30] SPEAKER_04: So which path do you think he's leaning right now?
[9:32] SPEAKER_05: I think he's now that he's earned his father's honor, his his honor back, and his father's trust, but it he finds out it's not what it he wants.
[9:41] SPEAKER_05: I think he's going to be like an ar like um not an arch nemesis, but like an arch friend to dang, like he's an arch friend, so like the most perfect friend?
[9:50] SPEAKER_05: Well, no.
[9:51] SPEAKER_05: I in my mind, arch nemesis is like the perfect villain, but yeah, I guess you're saying like an arch friend would be the perfect friend, but you're my arch friend.
[9:59] SPEAKER_05: But in his mind, an arch friend is just some friend that doesn't exactly get in your way, but he doesn't exactly help you.
[10:05] SPEAKER_05: That's Zuko's standards of an arch friend.
[10:07] SPEAKER_05: Frenemy.
[10:08] SPEAKER_05: Frenemy, there we go.
[10:09] SPEAKER_04: So you think he's going to help Aang f like how what do you think?
[10:14] SPEAKER_04: Do you think Zuko's going to be like, oh, let's burn the world down, or things like, oh, I'm gonna help Aang.
[10:19] SPEAKER_05: I'll burn everything down that Aang allows me to.
[10:22] SPEAKER_05: So he's gonna be like a mad dog?
[10:24] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because that's the way he operates.
[10:26] SPEAKER_05: Everything he sees, he likes to just he like he's really happy when he burns stuff, and Aang's gonna be like, Well, don't you dare harm any innocence, and Zuko's gonna be like, fine.
[10:35] SPEAKER_04: Katie, do you think Zuko's happiest when he's destroying things?
[10:38] SPEAKER_01: No.
[10:39] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[10:40] SPEAKER_01: My turn.
[10:41] SPEAKER_01: We're just gonna start at the beginning.
[10:43] SPEAKER_01: Since you guys are just hopping around.
[10:45] SPEAKER_04: Like Boy in the Iceberg beginning?
[10:47] SPEAKER_01: No, we're talking about the beach, Ember Island.
[10:49] SPEAKER_01: We get off the boat, everyone's angsty about how they're being sent off to go to hang out on this island.
[10:55] SPEAKER_01: My memory was this episode wasn't super awful, but I really wasn't into it.
[11:00] SPEAKER_01: Uh, Loan Lee.
[11:02] SPEAKER_01: Is that their names?
[11:03] SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, it is.
[11:04] SPEAKER_01: Okay, I was kind of excited to see them because they're just creepy and off.
[11:10] SPEAKER_01: But then there was, I don't know, it's definitely the animation, right?
[11:13] SPEAKER_01: It's kind of like oh, is that who didn't?
[11:16] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[11:17] SPEAKER_01: It's just not my thing to have sexed up cartoons or like having that kind of um, whatever.
[11:28] SPEAKER_01: A lot of people are into it and they're bothered by it.
[11:30] SPEAKER_04: I read that the creators for this episode or like someone involved with the creative team maybe did even more like scandalous clothing for like the beach wear, and Nickelodeon was like, Yeah no, we can't.
[11:43] SPEAKER_04: But I'm like, how much worse could it have been?
[11:45] SPEAKER_04: Ty Lee was like spilling out.
[11:47] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[11:48] SPEAKER_01: And it's like those specific shots, you know.
[11:51] SPEAKER_01: I mean, it just it just goes with the theme about objectifying women, which is a problem.
[11:57] SPEAKER_01: I think it just takes away from from any sort of like real dialogue or thing.
[12:02] SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
[12:02] SPEAKER_01: It just it put like Ty Lee in this in just kind of like a a certain light, which I think is unfortunate.
[12:09] SPEAKER_04: They just total objectifying her.
[12:11] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[12:12] SPEAKER_01: And it's like that that's all she is, and you know, as we address later on in the on the episode about everyone's issues.
[12:18] SPEAKER_01: But hold on, going back to Lo and Lee, right, where that very specific uh point where they kind of like disrobe because they're ready to go to the beach, and then you're seeing like some bouncy.
[12:29] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like things are hanging low, and it was like just an interesting better than things hanging lee.
[12:35] SPEAKER_01: Well, regardless, I just felt like that was unnecessary, but I'm sure a lot of people thought that was funny or like Right, because it's like you're objectifying a woman, but then you're making fun of this woman's like failing body, like aging body.
[12:50] SPEAKER_01: Right, it's kind of just like body shaming, and I just wasn't into it personally.
[12:54] SPEAKER_01: Totally bodily body shaming, bodily shaming.
[12:57] SPEAKER_05: Body shaming.
[12:58] SPEAKER_05: And it kind of goes back to society's double standards on women in general.
[13:02] SPEAKER_05: I mean Tylee, May, and Zula, they all have very distinctive personalities.
[13:08] SPEAKER_05: Tylee's like way out there.
[13:09] SPEAKER_05: She's just fun and giggling, she likes to have fun all the time.
[13:12] SPEAKER_05: Whereas May is just very, very reserved, she's just totally bored with life, she just can't stand life in general, really.
[13:20] SPEAKER_05: She's just like, eh.
[13:21] SPEAKER_04: I don't know if she can't stand it.
[13:23] SPEAKER_04: She's pretty apathetic and pretty removed.
[13:25] SPEAKER_04: Like nothing's really gonna shake her.
[13:27] SPEAKER_04: No.
[13:27] SPEAKER_05: And then Azula, you know, she can be both playful and she can be reserved, but she just likes to be dominating.
[13:35] SPEAKER_05: She likes to have complete control over everything in her surroundings.
[13:39] SPEAKER_05: And if there's any kind of competition, she's gonna figure out how to kick out one leg at a time until she wins.
[13:44] SPEAKER_05: And all three of those personalities were kind of either shunned or they were embarrassed, uh, at one point or another in the episode.
[13:53] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the uh the embarrassing thing when uh Zuko's like, Here, may I got you the shell.
[13:57] SPEAKER_04: And she's like, Ugh, only stupid girls would like a shell.
[14:00] SPEAKER_04: And then the next thing you see is like some character giving Ty Lee a shell, and she's like, Oh my god, I love it, it's beautiful.
[14:05] SPEAKER_04: And I was like, Why did we tell like why are we uh painting Ty Lee as like a stupid person?
[14:10] SPEAKER_04: And so it was just I don't know, the writing was really off for me.
[14:13] SPEAKER_04: And I don't think the person who wrote it was like necessarily on the writing staff.
[14:16] SPEAKER_01: It was written by Katie somebody, I saw Katie Matilla.
[14:22] SPEAKER_04: But she wrote uh one of the episodes in Tales of Bossing say she wrote Zuko's episode and because she was given this because she had already had shown experience of writing angsty Zuko in romantic situations, and so they were like, Oh, Katie, how about you write this episode?
[14:39] SPEAKER_04: And originally the I the episode the beach story was only supposed to be the B story, it wasn't supposed to be like the main story, and then they liked the idea of like showing the the other side in a different light for an episode.
[14:53] SPEAKER_04: But yeah, unfortunately the writing was really not super great.
[14:57] SPEAKER_04: Lo and Lee were just talking in proverbs the whole time, like they weren't really characters, it was like anytime they're engaging, they're like, Oh, and the beach has a very special magical way, and like every time there was like some sort of proverby thing.
[15:09] SPEAKER_01: Have fun, children.
[15:10] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was interesting, and then you have, you know, these angsty teens kind of encouraging this toxic behavior, and it's like, oh, you know what your problem is and your problem, and then it's just like we didn't really get a healthy resolution to everyone's issues.
[15:28] SPEAKER_04: Right, it was just them kind of venting about it.
[15:31] SPEAKER_01: And I just I don't think it was very productive, and I think there was I don't know, a Nickelodeon and just like this show putting this out there, and you're kind of encouraging, you have these young minds that are watching this and being influenced.
[15:46] SPEAKER_01: And I just think it was kind of careless, some just certain aspects in this episode that were just not yeah, not so great.
[15:53] SPEAKER_04: Right, and like they show one of the only relationships we see in the series like romantic relationships is Zuko and May, and it's just like dripping of toxicity.
[16:01] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[16:02] SPEAKER_01: And and even like at the end, where you know you get like this little bit of like, well, obviously I care about you and I, you know, and whatever, but they didn't really have this resolution, and it was this weird little vent sesh between all four of them, like and each like calling each other out and be like, oh well, okay, well, glad we did that.
[16:20] SPEAKER_01: It wasn't like a real like, oh, I'm glad we could talk about that, or I don't know.
[16:25] SPEAKER_01: They just yeah, it was not didn't really get the the closure I needed on that episode.
[16:32] SPEAKER_05: I already knew the episode was set up for failure when they were all invited to that party.
[16:36] SPEAKER_05: Oh god, the party.
[16:38] SPEAKER_05: Well that like the whole lead up to it.
[16:39] SPEAKER_05: I would enjoy social occasions in general, but this is the bachelor party, you know what I'm saying?
[16:44] SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
[16:44] SPEAKER_05: At a gay bar.
[16:46] SPEAKER_05: Uh but no, but as soon as they got invited to that party, I'm just like, I'm like, like, yeah, that's right.
[16:52] SPEAKER_05: Put a bunch of kids, probably all under the age of 18.
[16:55] SPEAKER_05: Some of them are barely over the age of 18, in a while.
[16:57] SPEAKER_01: Only two of them were invited to the party.
[16:59] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I know.
[17:00] SPEAKER_04: And we're coming too.
[17:02] SPEAKER_04: But like they're all like in junior high high school, if that, maybe still.
[17:07] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, some of the kids I saw.
[17:08] SPEAKER_04: Also, we don't know if there's actually a a formal school.
[17:11] SPEAKER_05: But you've got so, what, 20 some kids in the same room.
[17:14] SPEAKER_05: None of their brains are fully developed yet.
[17:16] SPEAKER_05: It's gonna be just you're just asking for trouble.
[17:19] SPEAKER_05: You know, it's just uh Yeah.
[17:20] SPEAKER_04: Have you seen any teen movie ever?
[17:22] SPEAKER_04: There's always a party and some shenanigans happen, and it's terrible.
[17:25] SPEAKER_04: But apparently they they took inspiration for this episode from The Breakfast Club.
[17:28] SPEAKER_04: No, that was really poor.
[17:31] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I just think I mean, I like the idea, right, that we were seeing this different side of these characters, and right, it was really fun to see Azula in a different light, and she wants to fit in, but I mean obviously she's still who she is, which is very intense.
[17:49] SPEAKER_01: But yeah, yeah, and then I wasn't into like her like quick makeout with that guy.
[17:54] SPEAKER_04: Azula's character was kind of all over the place in this episode.
[17:56] SPEAKER_04: Like she had moments of like peak Azula where she's like conniving and manipulative, and then it was like awkward, don't know how to socialize Azula, because obviously very sheltered life.
[18:07] SPEAKER_04: But it was like she was just bouncing back between those personalities, sometimes within like the same scene, and it was like kind of like jarring.
[18:15] SPEAKER_04: And I kind of think they didn't want to allow more character growth for these characters because we've seen them as villains for so long, and so I don't think they would have given the space for Zuko or Azula to really have that kind of coming to Jesus talk where we could have felt closure because that's just not where we're at.
[18:33] SPEAKER_04: But I'm surprised they didn't do it for Mei and Ty Lee, people who we don't really have that like connection with like we're we're not seeing Mei and Tylee as being pretty fundamentally evil, where Azula like tried to kill Aang by shooting him with lightning in the back.
[18:45] SPEAKER_04: So I don't really want to sympathize with Azula at this point.
[18:48] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[18:48] SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm actually proud of Azula.
[18:50] SPEAKER_05: She uh like as emotional as that campfire got, like none nothing from the day really actually got to her.
[18:57] SPEAKER_05: Like you never like you never got to see like the uh vulnerable side of her.
[19:01] SPEAKER_05: I'm like, okay, she's a through and through baddie.
[19:03] SPEAKER_05: Like she's like, okay, you guys all had, you know, teardropping stories, you know, boo-hoo.
[19:08] SPEAKER_05: My mom, my mother, she called me a monster.
[19:11] SPEAKER_05: And she just like lets it eat at her for just a second, just a second.
[19:14] SPEAKER_05: And she goes, Well, she was true, so she was right, of course.
[19:17] SPEAKER_01: You know, yeah, yeah.
[19:19] SPEAKER_01: But still hurt.
[19:20] SPEAKER_05: Still hurt, you know, winch.
[19:22] SPEAKER_05: God.
[19:23] SPEAKER_04: Um okay, but then like the resolution to the whole episode was toxic too.
[19:27] SPEAKER_04: Like these people that we had like an argument-ish with.
[19:31] SPEAKER_04: Azula's feeling salty because Chan, when she had like the makeout, wasn't really into her like going berserker with like talking about their future and peaced out.
[19:43] SPEAKER_04: And so then the solution to this episode was that we're gonna go back to this guy's house.
[19:48] SPEAKER_04: They really didn't do anything bad to the kids, and we're gonna trash their house.
[19:52] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was it was odd.
[19:55] SPEAKER_01: It was weird ending.
[19:57] SPEAKER_05: And hence why I say Zuko is happiest when he's destroying stuff.
[20:01] SPEAKER_04: I don't think he was happy.
[20:03] SPEAKER_04: No.
[20:04] SPEAKER_05: No, but it makes sense.
[20:05] SPEAKER_04: I think he's happy when he's destroying things that re are representative of his painful memories of his past, right?
[20:11] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[20:11] SPEAKER_05: Right now, that's how he knows happiness is if it relates to his past, and his past usually means either tracking down the avatar or pushing and shoving and destroying whatever gets in his way.
[20:21] SPEAKER_05: Well, it's probably therapeutic.
[20:22] SPEAKER_05: I think it is.
[20:23] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, obviously Zuko's stuck in the past.
[20:25] SPEAKER_04: Like, as we've seen, Zuko can't make plans, he can't think of the future.
[20:28] SPEAKER_04: Like, he's just so caught up, and whatever his current present is so ruled by his past, he can't he can't shake that right now.
[20:38] SPEAKER_05: So, what Zuko needs is an Appa.
[20:39] SPEAKER_05: And we all need an Oppa and the banjo guy.
[20:42] SPEAKER_04: Okay, some facts, some trivia about this episode.
[20:44] SPEAKER_04: Uh, Chan and Ronjon are our two buddies that take us to the party.
[20:49] SPEAKER_04: Chan was a famous Disney uh personality for a while.
[20:55] SPEAKER_04: Do we know who his voice actor was?
[20:57] SPEAKER_04: Don't look at my notes.
[20:59] SPEAKER_01: I can't read your notes.
[21:01] SPEAKER_04: You wish it was Zach Efron.
[21:02] SPEAKER_04: I can't think of any Eric von Denton.
[21:05] SPEAKER_04: Oh we got Brink himself as Chan.
[21:09] SPEAKER_01: That's nice.
[21:10] SPEAKER_04: Who makes out with Azula?
[21:11] SPEAKER_01: You don't remember the Brink?
[21:12] SPEAKER_01: You don't remember Brink?
[21:13] SPEAKER_01: Come on, Troy.
[21:14] SPEAKER_04: Wasn't Eric Von Denton?
[21:15] SPEAKER_04: He was in so weird too, wasn't he?
[21:17] SPEAKER_04: Or Erie Indiana.
[21:18] SPEAKER_01: Oh, he's he's uh also the rat who makes out with Princess Diary's girl.
[21:24] SPEAKER_04: Mia in Hathaway.
[21:26] SPEAKER_04: That dude! That dude! Also, I should have said Julie Andrews because that would have been hilarious.
[21:31] SPEAKER_05: I didn't think he was working anymore.
[21:33] SPEAKER_04: What do you mean working?
[21:34] SPEAKER_05: This this is from 15 years ago, Troy! Oh, okay, so this is at the height of his fame.
[21:39] SPEAKER_01: No, do you know who we're talking about?
[21:42] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the yeah, the guy that makes out with uh Prince of Dire the the prep boy that just kind of like takes advantage of it for popular for popularity, right?
[21:49] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
[21:50] SPEAKER_05: Okay, yeah.
[21:50] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so this was recorded like six or seven years after that.
[21:54] SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
[21:55] SPEAKER_04: Unless they just had this recording.
[21:58] SPEAKER_04: Oh, Eric, you have this.
[22:00] SPEAKER_04: This voice recording where you say Azula and you talk about these things, we should get you.
[22:03] SPEAKER_04: Can we use that?
[22:05] SPEAKER_01: Also, I didn't like in this episode where Aang was being super careless, you know, and Toph for some reason is sitting on a rock and Aang splashing around the in the water, and for some reason she's like can see, is like, hey, you need to cover up, you know, before somebody sees you.
[22:23] SPEAKER_04: Maybe there was some dialogue where Aang was like, hey, I'm taking off my clothes, and so maybe she could see him taking off his clothes.
[22:30] SPEAKER_05: I'm imagining that when he's uh when he's got more layers on, he he weighs more.
[22:36] SPEAKER_05: Uh, and so she can probably feel that weight of her his clothes through her sensors in her feet.
[22:41] SPEAKER_05: And so when he takes off all his his clothes except for his When he takes off all his clothes.
[22:45] SPEAKER_05: Yes, she can she can sense how light he is, and she goes, Hey, I can tell you're not covered up.
[22:49] SPEAKER_05: Well, but he was in the water.
[22:50] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Katara's like, no, no, no, we're safe.
[22:52] SPEAKER_04: We're in this like, I don't know, canyon thing.
[22:54] SPEAKER_01: And then Aang's like, oh look, here's a magical water tunnel that can- I'm just gonna go down because I don't know, you know, if there's anybody around.
[23:02] SPEAKER_01: I mean, that was crazy.
[23:03] SPEAKER_01: And I feel like out of character to be so careless at this point.
[23:09] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because I mean, again, uh let's reflect back on the first couple episodes of the season.
[23:12] SPEAKER_04: I feel like Aang was like had a had his head squared on his shoulders pretty well.
[23:18] SPEAKER_04: You did?
[23:19] SPEAKER_04: I thought so.
[23:19] SPEAKER_04: No, in the awakening, well, at the end of the awakening, he like has his resolve to, you know, lay low, be careful, and then in the headband, he's he doesn't like blow his cover at all.
[23:32] SPEAKER_04: Right.
[23:32] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, Aang, I don't know, maybe he's getting comfortable.
[23:36] SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
[23:36] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so then you have these ding-dongs, like we're like, oh, I'm so bored.
[23:41] SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh, there's the avatar.
[23:43] SPEAKER_01: We need to send a like messenger pigeon or whatever.
[23:46] SPEAKER_04: Uh messenger hawk.
[23:48] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
[23:49] SPEAKER_01: But then like hawk-eyed like the raven eagle thing.
[23:54] SPEAKER_01: Giant bird gets it.
[23:57] SPEAKER_04: It's apparently a highly intelligent creature because it knows the fundamentals of a knot.
[24:02] SPEAKER_04: Because it tied up the bird.
[24:05] SPEAKER_01: It was pretty hardcore.
[24:06] SPEAKER_05: Literally killing it.
[24:07] SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about this antagonist assassin guy that's that's chasing them right now.
[24:13] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Trey, what do you think?
[24:15] SPEAKER_01: Iron Man back in the day.
[24:16] SPEAKER_04: Hmm, oh yes, the first Iron Man.
[24:20] SPEAKER_04: So what's your take on this guy?
[24:22] SPEAKER_05: Not much.
[24:23] SPEAKER_05: He doesn't speak.
[24:24] SPEAKER_05: He just shoots things out of his forehead.
[24:26] SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's we've never seen anything like that before.
[24:29] SPEAKER_05: Right.
[24:29] SPEAKER_05: I'm like, so just goes to prove that Fire Nation must have like a list of mercenaries at their disposal, and this must be Zuko's favorite one, because he he obviously doesn't talk at all.
[24:39] SPEAKER_05: Maybe he doesn't have a tongue.
[24:41] SPEAKER_04: Well, I don't think it's obviously it's not known that Zuko's hired this assassin, because as we know, Zuko's like he killed Aang is the the common knowledge.
[24:52] SPEAKER_04: And Azula doesn't know that Aang's actually alive.
[24:56] SPEAKER_04: I'm assuming she assumes.
[24:58] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so this assassin guy they hire, he's like, got like metal arm, metal leg.
[25:05] SPEAKER_04: He's got a tattoo on his forehead, but they they designed this character to be like the anti-ang.
[25:11] SPEAKER_04: They wanted to get this like big beefy, big beefy man.
[25:16] SPEAKER_04: But it's also interesting because uh he also has a tattoo prom prominently featured on his forehead, much like Aang, but this one is like supposed to be modeled after like Shiva's like destructive third eye, is I guess the idea with it.
[25:31] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this dude's like firebending like explosions with his mind.
[25:36] SPEAKER_05: That makes sense.
[25:37] SPEAKER_04: It was weird too, like watching him do it.
[25:38] SPEAKER_04: Like he kind of like they really focused on like his diaphragm, like his breathing.
[25:41] SPEAKER_04: He's like, and then it's like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
[25:45] SPEAKER_04: That sound is so satisfying for me.
[25:47] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a lot.
[25:48] SPEAKER_01: And then I was like, where is Aang running through?
[25:50] SPEAKER_01: Like all these little rock formations.
[25:52] SPEAKER_04: Obviously Bryce Canyon in Utah.
[25:54] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[25:55] SPEAKER_01: And then, and then where Aang's hiding in the rock, and then he shoots out, and it's very Iron Man, and then you know, blasts off and then lands on Apa and away they go.
[26:06] SPEAKER_04: Hey, this came out before Iron Man came out.
[26:09] SPEAKER_01: Wow, that's a crazy thought.
[26:10] SPEAKER_04: I know.
[26:11] SPEAKER_04: This this episode predates the entire Marvel Cinematic universe.
[26:15] SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
[26:16] SPEAKER_04: Don't you feel old, Troy?
[26:17] SPEAKER_04: No.
[26:18] SPEAKER_04: Okay, so also in they did like some promotional art for book three, and on it it was like it was a really beautiful piece of art.
[26:25] SPEAKER_04: It's like a red poster, one is like Aang, like furry hairy Aang, only on his head, it's not everywhere else.
[26:32] SPEAKER_04: He doesn't have and he wasn't a furry.
[26:34] SPEAKER_01: It's Aang as Atha.
[26:36] SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it's like Aang, he's looking kind of like mournful, and it's like a portrait picture of him in the background behind him is in Zuko, and he's got like his cloak on that he's wearing, and Zuko's looking edgy as per usual.
[26:48] SPEAKER_04: But then featured like just in the background is like a shady ghost of a character, is this assassin guy?
[26:55] SPEAKER_04: And so they released this before book three, and people are like, who is this guy?
[26:59] SPEAKER_04: And apparently, fandom, like, they had you know all sorts of theories because that's what nerds do.
[27:05] SPEAKER_04: Uh they the the common uh consensus was that it was Fire Lord Ozai.
[27:10] SPEAKER_04: Like that was a popular theory.
[27:12] SPEAKER_04: Which how wild would that have been if it was Ozai?
[27:14] SPEAKER_04: Like Ozai, like shaves, goes after the Avatar himself, kind of like Thanos, bringing back the MCU, because we're done talking about Star Wars Troy.
[27:22] SPEAKER_05: Yes.
[27:23] SPEAKER_05: Now we're on a villain's head.
[27:24] SPEAKER_05: Okay, yeah, the beach.
[27:26] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was Is it really an episode worth talking more about?
[27:30] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, let's let's move on.
[27:32] SPEAKER_05: Wrapped it up.
[27:33] SPEAKER_05: Even May's saying, I'm totally bored with this episode.
[27:36] SPEAKER_05: Let's go on to the next one.
[27:37] SPEAKER_03: Hey, I got you some ice cream.
[27:39] SPEAKER_03: Do you want some ice cream?
[27:40] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[27:41] SPEAKER_03: It's refreshing.
[27:42] SPEAKER_03: It's on my lap now.
[27:44] SPEAKER_04: And now we're to the next episode: The Avatar and the Firelord.
[27:48] SPEAKER_04: Because when I first saw this episode or saw like the title for it, I was like, oh dang, Ang's gonna go take down Ozai today.
[27:56] SPEAKER_04: It was really, I didn't know what to think because I didn't assume that it was gonna be about Avatar Roku and that Firelord.
[28:05] SPEAKER_04: Detroit, take it away.
[28:06] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Fire Lord Ozai, you know?
[28:09] SPEAKER_05: Ozai.
[28:10] SPEAKER_05: Ozai, just totally not cool about the Avatar.
[28:13] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, man.
[28:14] SPEAKER_05: But you know, at some point I was like, at some point, Roku's gotta explain himself.
[28:19] SPEAKER_05: I'm really like, from I think the beginning of season three, Roku's telling and almost drowning Aang, like, I'm so sorry.
[28:26] SPEAKER_05: You're having to clean up after my mess.
[28:28] SPEAKER_05: And I'm like looking at Roku, glaring at him, like, yeah, what'd you do, man?
[28:31] SPEAKER_04: Roku's like, hey, you good on that log?
[28:33] SPEAKER_04: You're good, right?
[28:34] SPEAKER_04: Disappears.
[28:35] SPEAKER_04: I wanna have to explain this to another life, okay?
[28:38] SPEAKER_04: God.
[28:39] SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, I got a question.
[28:41] SPEAKER_01: Was Roku a royal, or just he was friends with the prince?
[28:46] SPEAKER_04: I'm assuming he was just friends with the prince.
[28:48] SPEAKER_04: Maybe it was like, you know, the fact that they had the same birthday, maybe it was like auspicious.
[28:53] SPEAKER_04: They're like, oh, like this is gonna be your friend, Sozan, this boy.
[28:56] SPEAKER_04: We don't hear where he's from.
[28:58] SPEAKER_04: Maybe he's some high-ranking Right.
[29:01] SPEAKER_01: Does he live in the palace?
[29:02] SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know, like at the end where it's like, oh, you're all packed up and he's just there.
[29:06] SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
[29:07] SPEAKER_04: Obviously, the Fire Nation was pretty low-key.
[29:08] SPEAKER_04: You got this like kind of rando, maybe peasant boy, like shooting fire with the fire prince.
[29:13] SPEAKER_05: I do appreciate this episode diving into the history of uh the Fire Lord, Sozin, and uh how he rose to power and how him and Avatar Roku became best friends, or how they were best friends, and how they stayed best friends, and then how their friendship kind of just fell apart throughout the years.
[29:34] SPEAKER_04: I don't think it was like n really necessarily fell apart.
[29:37] SPEAKER_04: It seemed like it was really strong, but then yeah, those years apart created like this ideal ideological divide where they both were on different destinies.
[29:47] SPEAKER_04: Roku's job was to keep peace in the world, and in Roku's mind, it was to keep the four nations completely separate.
[29:54] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[29:55] SPEAKER_04: Like in his mind, there was no space for like intermingling at that point.
[29:59] SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
[30:00] SPEAKER_04: And then Sozin, like I said before, had a very uh Japanese World War II mindset where we're our our nation is doing so well, we're so prosperous, we have to share that with everyone else, so let's go take them over.
[30:16] SPEAKER_04: And that was at odds with what Ro Roku believed uh his mission to be in the world, and so yeah, that's where this divide happens.
[30:26] SPEAKER_04: And Roku gave him the space, like he wasn't gonna like really thwart him in that moment, and kind of gave Sozan the space to kind of keep doing nefarious things because Roku wasn't going to be active in that.
[30:41] SPEAKER_04: So I thought it was interesting that Roku wasn't very active in his home country in that way.
[30:45] SPEAKER_05: May I just point out my favorite part of the series thus far?
[30:49] SPEAKER_05: Is Roku learning the elements and just blasting all of his masters away, using all the elements.
[30:56] SPEAKER_05: The only one I didn't get to see him use is the fire.
[30:58] SPEAKER_05: I didn't see his fire training, but he's on the beach.
[31:02] SPEAKER_05: This is when you said you're gonna love the beach.
[31:03] SPEAKER_05: I thought this is what you meant by the beach.
[31:06] SPEAKER_05: Where he shoots all four different directions, north, south, east, and west, I'm assuming.
[31:11] SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
[31:12] SPEAKER_05: Southeast.
[31:13] SPEAKER_05: You see all the elements just kind of go out in all directions.
[31:16] SPEAKER_05: I'm like, now that's what I've been waiting for.
[31:18] SPEAKER_05: Finally, an avatar that can show me how they work the elements simultaneously.
[31:23] SPEAKER_01: Well, I liked when Roku was gonna take down Sozin but then left him.
[31:26] SPEAKER_01: But I was like, Yeah, I should have taken him down.
[31:29] SPEAKER_04: Why why did you like that moment?
[31:31] SPEAKER_01: That was a strong moment.
[31:32] SPEAKER_01: Like, like when you kind of zoom out and you can see like it looked like he just kind of wiped out this whole building and a throne room.
[31:40] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[31:40] SPEAKER_01: And they clearly rebuilt, but anyway.
[31:42] SPEAKER_05: Yes.
[31:42] SPEAKER_05: Avatar Roku is a little bit twisted in a way.
[31:45] SPEAKER_05: Peace to him means straight up borders.
[31:47] SPEAKER_05: Everybody doesn't mingle with one another.
[31:49] SPEAKER_05: So apparently he's really high on immigration.
[31:53] SPEAKER_05: Like, he doesn't he doesn't want too much immigration going on, immigrating going on.
[31:58] SPEAKER_05: I'm like, so if the four nations are supposed to stay the four nations, like what if people want to start like mingling?
[32:03] SPEAKER_05: You know, Fire Nation people want to start mingling with Earth Kingdom, water wants to start mingling with uh Air's doing their own thing.
[32:10] SPEAKER_05: Air, exactly.
[32:11] SPEAKER_04: Um so that there's there's a flaw in that where I do hear where you're coming from that Roku was very nationalistic in that way where everyone kind of needed to keep to themselves.
[32:20] SPEAKER_04: But then in his wedding, if you notice, there people were wearing the colors representative of the four nations.
[32:25] SPEAKER_04: So he had he had a love of other cultures and an acceptance.
[32:29] SPEAKER_04: But yeah, it was interesting that he wanted to.
[32:31] SPEAKER_04: Roku did.
[32:32] SPEAKER_01: But see, that's the I mean, we assume that probably had Sozan just gotten out and traveled the world a little bit.
[32:38] SPEAKER_01: I mean, because right, I mean, we assume I assume that he has kept himself in the fire nation, and he's just making these assumptions about the world about like, oh, well, probably nowhere in the world are they as um, you know, as great as our nation.
[32:56] SPEAKER_01: And so just that idea, like, well, we're we're the best, and let's go take over the world.
[33:01] SPEAKER_05: Sozin's just a white privilege.
[33:03] SPEAKER_05: He's just like, let me share my privileges with everybody else by taking them over.
[33:06] SPEAKER_04: I do like where you're coming from, Katie, you that he was just been probably very sheltered and running on that assumption that nowhere else can be possibly anywhere near as good as the Fire Nation.
[33:18] SPEAKER_01: You know, when you travel, it opens your mind, and right, it's like Roku was from the Fire Nation, but because he became the Avatar, gotta go and and learn about other cultures and see how other people are people live, and you know, maybe at first glance, and you could you know things look a little rough, but but once you get to know people, or you know, I'm sure when he went, was hanging out with the air nomads, was like, oh god, we're eating what?
[33:45] SPEAKER_01: Or you know, whatever vegetarian diet, and yeah, you learn and adjust, and it's like, oh, it's not too bad.
[33:53] SPEAKER_04: What'd you think about Sozan's line telling Roku that he'd be a traitor if he wouldn't fall in line with the Fire Lord because Roku is Fire Nation?
[34:00] SPEAKER_01: I mean, it made sense to me.
[34:02] SPEAKER_04: Just made sense that Sozin would say that.
[34:05] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think with those type of empires, I mean it's like, yeah, you have a leader, you know, it's not a democracy, even though sometimes I feel like some people think the US has a a leader that everyone needs to like bow down, but that's not that's not the case.
[34:22] SPEAKER_01: And it is a democracy, and that is there's a difference.
[34:25] SPEAKER_01: And so here the fire lord is the head of the nation and bow down.
[34:32] SPEAKER_01: But on the other side of that, you know, when he was not gonna say awarded, but dubbed the avatar, it means like everyone's kind of bowing down to him.
[34:42] SPEAKER_04: And Sozan hesitated.
[34:44] SPEAKER_01: I mean, because right, it's like right, who's it's like yeah, like who's in charge here?
[34:49] SPEAKER_01: Me or you?
[34:50] SPEAKER_01: And it was like this power struggle.
[34:52] SPEAKER_04: Like the avatar, like what what his standing is in the world versus mine as one of the leaders of of the world.
[34:59] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[35:00] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[35:00] SPEAKER_01: And so the assumption, again, my assumption is that Sozan wants to he wants to rule, rule 'em all.
[35:09] SPEAKER_01: He wants to be number one.
[35:11] SPEAKER_01: And maybe he was disappointed he wasn't the Avatar.
[35:14] SPEAKER_04: Maybe.
[35:15] SPEAKER_04: I mean, there's probably that idea, because you know, the Avatar is supposed to find it on their 16th birthday, and it was both of their 16th birthdays, we're assuming.
[35:23] SPEAKER_04: And so he probably went and was like, Oh dang, it's gonna be May.
[35:28] SPEAKER_04: But yeah, he was very excited, I think, when he finally considered the possibilities of having like a best friend, brother from another mother, be the Avatar.
[35:38] SPEAKER_04: And yeah, seeing it as an opportunity to like exploit that.
[35:42] SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
[35:43] SPEAKER_05: And then uh not to cut you off, Jordan, but uh it made me reminisce on friends that I'm sure all three of us have had in the past who we thought were we were gonna be tight for a long time.
[35:56] SPEAKER_05: Like they were like a brother from a different mother or a sister from a different mother, and over time we saw their true colors and we just kinda like fell out of the loop with them.
[36:05] SPEAKER_05: And it just kinda shows you like, yeah, no matter how strong a bond is, it's it's really sad how some really strong bonds can't just be broken.
[36:14] SPEAKER_05: That's what that episode also made me think about, too.
[36:18] SPEAKER_04: But I think those bonds were still there.
[36:19] SPEAKER_04: I think Roku, if he really had cut off Sozin, I think he would have killed him.
[36:25] SPEAKER_04: Like he would have just taken him out and been like, you're a threat to the world.
[36:29] SPEAKER_01: That's essentially what Sozin did, though.
[36:31] SPEAKER_01: It's like making those decisions and who's willing to cut ties, and in that moment it was it was Sozin.
[36:39] SPEAKER_03: What a jerk.
[36:40] SPEAKER_01: I mean, so right, that's what Troy's saying, too, just about about friendships, and yeah, you can be really close with somebody and then you kinda uh have different different ideas and and yeah.
[36:54] SPEAKER_04: Or being like really disturbed when you find out like a true color, and you're like, wait, this is where you're coming from.
[37:00] SPEAKER_01: Right, like what happened to you?
[37:02] SPEAKER_04: Right.
[37:03] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[37:03] SPEAKER_04: Uh so other things about this episode is that uh the creators said this episode is the most complex episode they did in the entire series because they had so many different backgrounds.
[37:13] SPEAKER_04: Because you see them uh Roku travels to all corners of the world in this episode, and so they had to do a lot of different art, they had to show Roku in like at least four different versions of himself, like aging through the years.
[37:27] SPEAKER_04: Uh, and I I was really surprised that well, I shouldn't be that surprised, but all of Roku's masters were males, which I was, you know, kind of bummed about.
[37:36] SPEAKER_04: Like the Northern Water Tribe, obviously we know they're screwed up, you know, very patriarchal.
[37:41] SPEAKER_04: Like his that was a f uh a male water bending master.
[37:44] SPEAKER_04: The air nomad we're assuming was male, because it was the southern air temple.
[37:49] SPEAKER_04: And what we know, the southern and the northern air temples were with the monks, and the eastern and western were with the quote unquote nuns.
[37:56] SPEAKER_04: And then Sud, his earth bending master, is the guy in the opening credits of the series.
[38:03] SPEAKER_04: So that's the firebending.
[38:04] SPEAKER_04: And he was like apparently uh Toff's like original character model.
[38:08] SPEAKER_04: And so that's but yeah, apparently Aang is not the airbender in the opening credits.
[38:15] SPEAKER_04: Apparently.
[38:17] SPEAKER_04: Like the creators have said that before.
[38:18] SPEAKER_05: Nope.
[38:19] SPEAKER_05: It's it's Monk Gyatsu.
[38:21] SPEAKER_04: I've I've heard people be like, oh, it's probably Gyatso.
[38:24] SPEAKER_04: Also, what did you think about learning that Gyatsu and Roku were friends?
[38:27] SPEAKER_04: Uh, was not surprised.
[38:30] SPEAKER_01: Never.
[38:31] SPEAKER_01: Not surprised.
[38:32] SPEAKER_01: I thought it was nice and right that friendships can transcend.
[38:36] SPEAKER_05: I was really hoping that his uh earth-bending master would have been like I was gonna say Boomy, but that would have been too far too long.
[38:45] SPEAKER_05: Boomy wasn't even a child yet.
[38:48] SPEAKER_04: Right, because Roku died twelve years later, Aang went into the ice, and so Roku's been dead for 112 years at this point, and when he died, he was an old man.
[38:58] SPEAKER_04: Uh so really this this show really took place like a hundred and like eighty, hundred and seventy years ago.
[39:05] SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's a long ways in the past.
[39:07] SPEAKER_04: Oh yes.
[39:08] SPEAKER_01: Well, and Troy, you made some comment uh earlier about you were trying to figure out where like if Aang if Roku is kind of Aang.
[39:18] SPEAKER_05: Oh, yes, that's right.
[39:19] SPEAKER_05: Right before we started the podcast, I was like, so as Zuko's talking to Iroh, rest in peace, Mako.
[39:26] SPEAKER_05: Uh as Zuko's talking Mako, Mako.
[39:30] SPEAKER_05: Mako.
[39:30] SPEAKER_05: Oh, I'm sorry.
[39:31] SPEAKER_05: Anyway, no, he's talking to Airo, and there he's like saying that Roku is Zuko's mother's grandfather, and that was an awesome reveal to find out.
[39:45] SPEAKER_05: But I'm like, so if Roku is the great grandfather of Zuko, and Aang is the successor to Roku, I'm like, where does that put uh Aang and Zuko's relationship at?
[40:02] SPEAKER_05: Well, and then they're not blood related.
[40:04] SPEAKER_05: No, they're reincarnation.
[40:06] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they're spiritually related though.
[40:07] SPEAKER_04: They are spiritually related.
[40:09] SPEAKER_04: And so it's it draws even more into this idea that Zuko and Aang are on parallel courses with each other.
[40:16] SPEAKER_04: And that their their journeys kind of mirror each other and they're intrinsically connected.
[40:21] SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
[40:21] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, I think Zuko probably was going through a whole rush of emotions in that moment, finding out that Roku is his is his great grandfather, because what we know so far is that the Fire Lord or the Fire Nation, I think probably just kind of hates the Avatar in general.
[40:38] SPEAKER_04: Because I don't know how we assume Roku is presented in the Fire Nation.
[40:42] SPEAKER_04: Like, do we think he's talked of fondly?
[40:45] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[40:45] SPEAKER_01: Like, what are they teaching at school?
[40:47] SPEAKER_01: Aang's gotta go back to school so we can figure it out.
[40:50] SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm assuming they don't like Roku because he was like at odds with Sozin and like destroyed the throne room.
[40:56] SPEAKER_04: They probably think he was like some sort of terrorist or something.
[40:58] SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
[40:59] SPEAKER_04: And like not supporting, you know, the gr the grandmaster's vision of a, you know, peaceful future.
[41:05] SPEAKER_05: So Sozin spends the remainder of his time searching for the Avatar Aang, but never gets to find him, and that was a hundred and twelve years ago.
[41:17] SPEAKER_04: So how did they know that they didn't wipe out Aang?
[41:20] SPEAKER_04: And so that's where I question it, because if they decided, because as soon as Roku is killed, Aang gets gets re-gets born.
[41:30] SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
[41:31] SPEAKER_04: And I got really emotional in that scene, like when Roku's going down and like there's that ultimate betrayal with Sozin.
[41:37] SPEAKER_04: Let's come back to that.
[41:38] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Fang comes by, kind of wraps him up as like all of the like ash, and so it like engulfs Roku, and then you don't know he's dead, but then obviously you know because then the next very next scene is Aang being like, Oh, that baby's me.
[41:51] SPEAKER_04: Uh and Roku's pretty chill about it.
[41:53] SPEAKER_04: He's like, Yeah, that's how I died.
[41:56] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
[41:56] SPEAKER_01: He's like sad.
[41:58] SPEAKER_04: I thought it was good.
[41:58] SPEAKER_04: It was a good like mentor moment for Roku, just be like, So this is like this is my story.
[42:03] SPEAKER_04: Do with it what you will.
[42:05] SPEAKER_01: Okay, also, what's up with all the dragons?
[42:07] SPEAKER_01: So everybody has a dragon, Roku has a red dragon, Sozin has a blue dragon.
[42:11] SPEAKER_04: Well, I think it's kind of like how the air nomads were with bison, like everyone just kind of I think probably well-regarded firebenders had access to dragons.
[42:21] SPEAKER_04: Because remember uh the lore is that Iroh killed killed the last of the dragons, is what the story is.
[42:29] SPEAKER_04: And so I think the Fire Nation Wait, who did?
[42:32] SPEAKER_04: Iroh.
[42:33] SPEAKER_04: That's how he's Dragon of the West.
[42:35] unknown: Oh.
[42:36] SPEAKER_04: So the story is, is like the dragons were like almost wiped out, and then Iroh was sent to or like they knew where like the last dragons were, and so then Iroh went and killed them.
[42:47] SPEAKER_04: So that's why it's called Dragon of the West.
[42:48] SPEAKER_01: It was crazy.
[42:49] SPEAKER_01: Finally heard Iroh speak first time.
[42:52] SPEAKER_04: So Mako, again, rest in peace, Mako.
[42:55] SPEAKER_04: So the the man who took over for Iroh's voice.
[43:00] SPEAKER_04: Right, I had kombucha burp.
[43:02] SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
[43:03] SPEAKER_04: Uh his name's Greg Baldwin, and he was like a close friend of Mako, and so he took over all of Mako's speaking roles.
[43:09] SPEAKER_04: So like Aku and Samurai Jack was uh Greg Baldwin when the show came back.
[43:14] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[43:16] SPEAKER_04: Greg Baldwin wasn't my favorite choice for Mako, but I don't know what you were gonna do.
[43:21] SPEAKER_04: Like Mako just had such a very specific warmth to his voice.
[43:26] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[43:26] SPEAKER_04: And just his his his delivery was so sincere and so pure.
[43:31] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't know how they could have done it much better.
[43:34] SPEAKER_04: I mean, there there it was kind of a stilted performance by Greg Baldwin, but I don't know.
[43:40] SPEAKER_04: I think it was the best with what they could do.
[43:42] SPEAKER_04: Because I think I was so distracted by listening to his voice I couldn't like really focus on the words he was telling Zuko.
[43:48] SPEAKER_04: Me, me neither.
[43:49] SPEAKER_04: I was just like, eh.
[43:50] SPEAKER_04: Because it was really important what he was saying.
[43:52] SPEAKER_04: Because when you think about it, like Ira's been giving him the cold shoulder for for the whole season, and apparently it was the uh creator.
[44:00] SPEAKER_04: Intent to have Iroh be silent for the first couple episodes.
[44:03] SPEAKER_04: So even though Mako died, like that didn't have according to them, didn't have any impact on the fact he wasn't speaking.
[44:09] SPEAKER_04: You're just getting shredded.
[44:11] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, he tells Zuko this like really important thing, like, oh, you took that message in the wrong way.
[44:18] SPEAKER_04: Like when I told you you needed to learn about your great-grandfather's demise, I didn't mean Sozan pal.
[44:24] SPEAKER_04: You got some secret history you gotta work through.
[44:30] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, probably intentionally.
[44:31] SPEAKER_01: Well probably.
[44:32] SPEAKER_01: But um okay, and the other thing about changing voice actors, I think that it's okay for him to sound a little different and a little m more cold.
[44:44] SPEAKER_01: Because yeah, I mean, I think yeah, he's he's in jail, not having a great time, so he shouldn't necessarily have warmth to his voice.
[44:52] SPEAKER_01: I mean, as opposed to it being like in the middle of season two, that would have been a really like a way harder adjustment.
[44:58] SPEAKER_04: That's fair.
[45:00] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so he tells Zuko that basically, and I thought this was a really interesting thing, that like both good and evil are at war with you uh inside you at all times, just based on his genealogy, and then telling him that he's basically in some ways, like the avatar of both Roku and Sozin's visions for the world.
[45:23] SPEAKER_04: And so now Zuko needs to make a choice, and that born in him, as Iroh says, is the power to restore balance to the world, because we are out of whack, and now Zuko has another decision to make.
[45:35] SPEAKER_04: And as we all know, Zuko's really great at making decisions.
[45:38] SPEAKER_04: So it'll be really interesting for him, like what direction he will go knowing this, because before it was like, oh, any decision you need to make is because you are going to be the Fire Lord one day, and you need to make these decisions with that in mind.
[45:54] SPEAKER_04: And now it's almost like, well, you can make a decision for good because actually you are directly related to an avatar.
[46:03] SPEAKER_04: So I I know.
[46:04] SPEAKER_01: I wonder if that was kind of what that reaction would be, be like, oh, my grandpa was the Avatar, I've been trying to capture the Avatar, sis just killed the Avatar, kinda.
[46:16] SPEAKER_01: You know, just like oh crazy discovery, and then right, do you think he feels like you should tell Azula?
[46:24] SPEAKER_01: You know, or it's like, oh, that she's you know crazy and you can't.
[46:27] SPEAKER_05: What's to say Azula doesn't already know?
[46:29] SPEAKER_04: I mean, I'm assuming Azula wouldn't know.
[46:32] SPEAKER_04: I think Azula is more like a definitely a product of Ozai, 100%.
[46:37] SPEAKER_04: And without Ursa being around, I don't see why he would ever feel it necessary to say that you are directly related to this person.
[46:45] SPEAKER_04: And who knows, maybe Ozai doesn't even know.
[46:48] SPEAKER_04: Maybe Ursa and Iroh had a good relationship and was like, hey, don't tell anybody this, but Roku is definitely my grandfather, which I could see.
[46:56] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wait, right.
[46:58] SPEAKER_01: And I guess I thought we were gonna see how mom and dad got together.
[47:02] SPEAKER_04: Iro uh Ozai and Ursa?
[47:05] SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
[47:05] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we didn't did not play out that way.
[47:08] SPEAKER_01: Was it an arranged marriage?
[47:10] SPEAKER_04: Well, you can find out about it in the search graphic novel.
[47:14] SPEAKER_01: I will.
[47:14] SPEAKER_04: Which we own.
[47:16] SPEAKER_04: Alright, more facts about this episode I thought was interesting is that uh we see Roku in traditional outfits whenever he's mastering an element, and apparently that's what avatars need to do, like when they're traditionally the avatar looks like they wear like the the custom outfits of whatever culture they're they're in, which I thought was interesting.
[47:34] SPEAKER_04: Like you see uh you see Roku in in the Air Nation outfits, you see him wearing Water Tribe stuff, you see him in Earth Earth Kingdom stuff.
[47:43] SPEAKER_04: Another thing is that Sozin was 82 when he started the war, so when the comet came, and then he died 20 years later when he's 102.
[47:53] SPEAKER_04: And so my question was when he decided to start the war with the com power of the comet and he wiped out all the air nomads, how did he know that he didn't kill the Avatar?
[48:03] SPEAKER_04: Because that's an interesting thing for me.
[48:05] SPEAKER_04: Like, was did he wait it out and was like, well, no one said like the Avatar was reborn in the Northern or Southern Water Tribe, so what's going on here?
[48:17] SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
[48:18] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like right, why would they kill Yeah, that's just kind of odd.
[48:23] SPEAKER_04: And I think that's like a lot of the first season stuff is like, oh, we're not gonna kill the Avatar, we're just gonna capture the Avatar, so you can't just keep like thwarting our plans.
[48:31] SPEAKER_04: And in the in the very beginning of the episode, after Zuko's like wanting to find out more about his grandfather, he's looking at like the like official portraits of the Fire Lords, and that's when Azula's like, Oh, it's never too late to go to the portrait.
[48:43] SPEAKER_04: Make sure they get the good sign.
[48:45] SPEAKER_04: So uh in the Avatar art book, they have pictures of the other Fire Lords, and so we know Sozin, Azulon, and Ozai, the most recent three, but then they had two more.
[48:57] SPEAKER_04: They never came up with names for them, but the first one of the five, he's like got like this crazy receding hairline.
[49:04] SPEAKER_04: He's got like a chin strap beard, and then he has like his imagery behind him is like fire, but then it's like ferns.
[49:12] SPEAKER_04: Because I'm assuming every single one of those portraits kind of includes something about that fire lord or what they were doing, because Sozin's was him like holding a handful of fire, and then the comet was over him, so it's like, oh, this is Sozin's like legacy.
[49:26] SPEAKER_04: And then Ozai's portrait uh had like gears in it, probably about like the industrialization.
[49:32] SPEAKER_04: It's just it was really impressive the amount of thought that went into it.
[49:36] SPEAKER_04: Uh they don't have like any backstory for these first two Fire Lords, so there's some some sweet fan fiction just rare and go.
[49:43] SPEAKER_04: Wow.
[49:44] SPEAKER_04: But the first guy, yeah, he has ferns and something like, ooh, maybe he was like a lover of the plants, maybe he expanded the Fire Nation.
[49:51] SPEAKER_01: Maybe he was a botanist.
[49:52] SPEAKER_04: Maybe he was a botanist.
[49:53] SPEAKER_04: But the second guy was interesting.
[49:55] SPEAKER_04: He had like intense mustache, like mustache for days.
[49:59] SPEAKER_04: But he in his hand, he was holding like a mechanical son.
[50:04] SPEAKER_04: So I don't know, it was kind of weird.
[50:05] SPEAKER_04: Mechanical son and then a lot of clouds.
[50:06] SPEAKER_04: So I'm like, oh, what did that mean?
[50:08] SPEAKER_04: But you know, I'm like trying, I'm like thinking about it.
[50:10] SPEAKER_04: Very interesting to me.
[50:13] SPEAKER_04: So, Roku and Sozin, like the crux of this episode kind of revolves around Roku and Sozin being at odds and being kind of at a stalemate because Sozin isn't going to make any big leaps with his idea for global domination, but when he I feel like he goes to the volcano when it's erupting.
[50:34] SPEAKER_04: And I feel like he's going to help Roku, or to like, I don't you know, don't you get that vibe?
[50:39] SPEAKER_01: Okay, wait.
[50:40] SPEAKER_01: Also, I feel like Roku didn't have to be right there inhaling all the toxic gas.
[50:47] SPEAKER_01: I definitely feel like he could have been around it.
[50:50] SPEAKER_01: He could have like waterben some some water on it.
[50:54] SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know.
[50:55] SPEAKER_01: I just feel like there could have been a different solution.
[50:58] SPEAKER_04: Like he could have gone to Avatar State like at the very beginning to like, I don't know, put a giant rock on top of the volcano.
[51:04] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[51:05] SPEAKER_04: But was he doing all of that to like save the other villagers in the boats?
[51:09] SPEAKER_04: Is that what was that his goal?
[51:11] SPEAKER_05: No, it was not his goal to save the other villagers.
[51:14] SPEAKER_05: What was his goal?
[51:15] SPEAKER_05: He was just trying to look cool.
[51:16] SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, Roky's just trying to look cool.
[51:18] SPEAKER_04: He's like, oh, Tom Inn, check this out.
[51:20] SPEAKER_05: Well, you know, he's really trying to be cool when Susan sweeps in to save him and he goes, and they're running down the side of the mountain, and he says, Don't breathe in the toxic gases.
[51:29] SPEAKER_05: But I'm like, none of them are covering their mouths, so they're obviously breathing in all the toxins from the volcano.
[51:35] SPEAKER_05: I thought that was like, oh, uh Yeah, Roku's trying to die, and Troy's like laughing on the couch.
[51:41] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, Troy's losing it.
[51:43] SPEAKER_05: Hilarious.
[51:44] SPEAKER_05: Because Susie says that a big la big gas cloud is shoes behind his face.
[51:50] SPEAKER_05: And it killed him.
[51:51] SPEAKER_05: It was a lethal blow by the volcano.
[51:53] SPEAKER_05: And I'm just like, oh, then it would totally be me on the side of a little volcano.
[51:57] SPEAKER_05: Don't breathe it in, kids.
[51:59] SPEAKER_05: Right.
[52:00] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[52:00] SPEAKER_01: Troy just saw himself.
[52:01] SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
[52:02] SPEAKER_05: Oh, it was too funny.
[52:04] SPEAKER_01: Well, okay, also a pet peeve.
[52:07] SPEAKER_01: Like, we only heard Roku's wife speak once.
[52:09] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and her voice actress is Azula's voice actress.
[52:12] SPEAKER_04: Great O'Neill.
[52:14] SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
[52:17] SPEAKER_01: I feel like she had to speak a lot.
[52:18] SPEAKER_01: Like, I feel like she had to change her voice quite a bit.
[52:20] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[52:22] SPEAKER_04: So you wish that she had had a bigger part.
[52:24] SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
[52:25] SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think like the little dialogue they tried to be like, oh, like, it's her wedding, but I guess it's okay.
[52:30] SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know.
[52:30] SPEAKER_04: I just thought maybe Well, I mean, the episode it wasn't about like Roku's life in that way.
[52:36] SPEAKER_04: It was how he was tied to Sozin.
[52:38] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[52:39] SPEAKER_04: I know, but I agree, but I agree.
[52:41] SPEAKER_04: It would be nice if she had more time.
[52:43] SPEAKER_01: We've had more BS background characters say more than she did.
[52:47] SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's very true.
[52:48] SPEAKER_04: Hear that, cabbages?
[52:50] SPEAKER_04: Okay, so there is a theory revolving around Tom Inn.
[52:53] SPEAKER_04: You wanna hear it?
[52:54] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you do.
[52:55] SPEAKER_04: Roku's wife.
[52:56] SPEAKER_04: Oh.
[52:57] SPEAKER_01: Who?
[52:58] SPEAKER_04: No.
[52:59] SPEAKER_04: So there is a theory floating around that the next avatar will resemble whoever the previous avatar loved the most.
[53:11] SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
[53:11] SPEAKER_04: So when you look at Tom In when she's young, she looks kind of like Aang, like those like softer features, kind of a round face, kind of big, expressive, kind of gray eyes.
[53:22] SPEAKER_04: Okay, think about it.
[53:23] SPEAKER_04: Okay.
[53:25] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
[53:26] SPEAKER_04: Looks kind of like Aang and Drag, minus an arrow.
[53:30] SPEAKER_04: And then Korra, the avatar after Aang, looks kind of like Katara, who we know that Aang's like really into Katara, has love for her.
[53:40] SPEAKER_04: So that's just like a theory that's that's floating around.
[53:44] SPEAKER_01: I don't know, from the fans.
[53:45] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, from the fans.
[53:46] SPEAKER_04: No one has like verified this.
[53:48] SPEAKER_04: I was just throwing it out there because I did I had read this theory, but I haven't seen the episode since.
[53:53] SPEAKER_04: I was like, oh yeah, she does kind of look like Aang.
[53:55] SPEAKER_04: Kind of interesting.
[53:56] SPEAKER_04: But Avatar Kurik, the Avatar before him, he's the one who lost his like wife or the love of his life to coat the face stealer.
[54:05] SPEAKER_04: And she's kind of dark skinned, has dark hair.
[54:07] SPEAKER_04: And Kiyoshi, when she doesn't have her makeup on, has dark skin, black hair.
[54:13] SPEAKER_04: Katie is unimpressed with this theory.
[54:15] SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm like, yeah, yeah, maybe.
[54:18] SPEAKER_01: Or you know, the creative team wasn't feeling that creative.
[54:22] SPEAKER_01: Oh just like doing like, okay, well, we'll just tweak this a little bit.
[54:26] SPEAKER_05: Could you imagine a creative team in Nickelodeon?
[54:28] SPEAKER_05: Like, sorry, boss, we're not feeling very creative today.
[54:32] SPEAKER_05: What tomorrow?
[54:32] SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
[54:33] SPEAKER_05: Next month.
[54:34] SPEAKER_04: Okay, so uh another thing, Katie thought the dragonbone catacombs in the Fire Nation would make a great uh Disneyland ride.
[54:41] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah.
[54:42] SPEAKER_01: It reminded me of Indiana Jones a little bit, you know.
[54:47] SPEAKER_01: Especially, specifically when Zuko put the hand on the door and kind of like this face, face of the Fire Lord lit up or something.
[54:57] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was like, oh yeah, that's right.
[54:58] SPEAKER_04: That would freak so many kids out.
[55:00] SPEAKER_04: How's Iroh getting all these messages out?
[55:02] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
[55:03] SPEAKER_01: Then he has like the little crown on the wall.
[55:05] SPEAKER_01: Like there was a lot.
[55:06] SPEAKER_05: The White Lotus.
[55:07] SPEAKER_04: I well, I mean, that's the easy thing.
[55:09] SPEAKER_05: Come on now.
[55:09] SPEAKER_05: Iroh is a he's an agent in disguise.
[55:12] SPEAKER_05: He has mastered communication, all other forms of communication.
[55:16] SPEAKER_04: All forms.
[55:17] SPEAKER_05: You know?
[55:18] SPEAKER_05: Iro sign language.
[55:19] SPEAKER_01: Okay, where where'd Iroh get the crown on the wall?
[55:22] SPEAKER_01: Did he bring it with him?
[55:23] SPEAKER_05: Must have.
[55:24] SPEAKER_05: Either the white lotus fetched it for him.
[55:26] SPEAKER_05: I'm starting to realize more and more that the white lotus is actually much more powerful than we're realizing.
[55:33] SPEAKER_05: Not realizing.
[55:35] SPEAKER_04: Also, can we talk about their they're on the island that Roku was from, so they're like right by where he died.
[55:40] SPEAKER_04: Like his body's like fossilized around there.
[55:43] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[55:44] SPEAKER_04: That's kind of like weird.
[55:45] SPEAKER_04: Kind of weird to think about.
[55:46] SPEAKER_04: It's not that weird.
[55:48] unknown: Yeah.
[55:48] SPEAKER_04: Also, at the time.
[55:49] SPEAKER_01: Where do you want him to be?
[55:50] SPEAKER_01: In a cemetery?
[55:51] SPEAKER_01: No.
[55:51] SPEAKER_05: And I think that's where I was buried by the volcano.
[55:55] SPEAKER_05: Don't you dare die in the same place.
[55:58] SPEAKER_04: And then like, I feel like Roku can only talk to Aang like on a solstice.
[56:02] SPEAKER_04: Like, oh, on the sum of solstice we can talk.
[56:04] SPEAKER_04: And then Aang, like, getting up into like.
[56:06] SPEAKER_04: No, Roku's very unavailable.
[56:09] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[56:10] SPEAKER_04: Do we think Roku was a good avatar?
[56:13] SPEAKER_01: Obviously not.
[56:14] SPEAKER_01: He was pretty selfish.
[56:16] SPEAKER_04: I don't know if selfish.
[56:18] SPEAKER_04: Maybe.
[56:19] SPEAKER_05: Well, because look, everybody's got their own definition of peace, I think.
[56:23] SPEAKER_05: Roku, when he explained his world peace, I thought it was a little bit shaded, to be honest with you.
[56:30] SPEAKER_05: The way he was just like, though, the four nations are supposed to remain the four nations.
[56:33] SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm like, well, I'm sorry, but some of those nations might want to s uh form stronger friendships.
[56:38] SPEAKER_04: Like the Fire Nation.
[56:39] SPEAKER_04: They wanted to s expand their friendship.
[56:42] SPEAKER_05: And so in this episode.
[56:43] SPEAKER_04: Arch friendship, if you will.
[56:45] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[56:45] SPEAKER_05: In this episode, I basically learned that Sozin and Roku were actually a bit more selfish and a little shadier than I originally thought they were.
[56:52] SPEAKER_01: Alright, Troy, what's gonna happen?
[56:54] SPEAKER_05: I don't even know the name of the next two episodes.
[56:56] SPEAKER_05: Good.
[56:57] SPEAKER_01: Because we're watching three.
[56:58] SPEAKER_05: Okay.
[56:59] SPEAKER_01: Oh, are we?
[57:00] SPEAKER_01: That's what you told me.
[57:01] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I did.
[57:02] SPEAKER_05: What's gonna happen?
[57:04] SPEAKER_05: We're gonna watch Aang Bensome Air.
[57:08] SPEAKER_04: Solid idea.
[57:11] SPEAKER_04: So, there you have it, kids.
[57:13] SPEAKER_04: That's our take on The Beach and Avatar and the Fire Lord.
[57:17] SPEAKER_04: The next episodes are The Runaway, The Puppet Master, and Nightmares and Daydreams.
[57:24] SPEAKER_01: It's called Nightmares and Daydreams.
[57:26] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's kind of a weird title.
[57:28] SPEAKER_04: Not happy about it.
[57:29] SPEAKER_01: Aren't in these episodes good?
[57:30] SPEAKER_04: Yep, they're all great.
[57:32] SPEAKER_04: The Great Divide.
[57:33] SPEAKER_04: They're all great divide.
[57:36] SPEAKER_04: Where's a slide whistle when we need it?
[57:39] SPEAKER_04: Well.
[57:40] SPEAKER_05: Yep, yep.
[57:47] SPEAKER_04: Well, fruit salads.
[57:49] SPEAKER_01: Yummy.
[57:50] SPEAKER_01: Fruit salad.
[57:51] SPEAKER_01: Yum yum.
[57:51] SPEAKER_01: Yum yum.
[57:53] SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like yum yum.
[57:55] SPEAKER_01: Yum yum.
[57:56] SPEAKER_04: Well, you're doing yum yum because you're not doing yummy yummy.
[58:00] SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
[58:01] SPEAKER_01: A banana.
