[0:18] SPEAKER_01: My favorite thing that happened was uh Troy mentioning Mulan 1 as opposed to just Mulan as most people would.
[0:26] SPEAKER_01: But no, Troy decided Mulan 1 to make sure we knew which Mulan we'd be talking about.
[0:30] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because Troy's not most people.
[0:32] SPEAKER_03: Well, I definitely am not.
[0:33] SPEAKER_01: That's good.
[0:34] SPEAKER_01: Do you ever do you also uh recognize Lang King 1, Lang King 1 and a half, and Lang King 2, Simba's Pride?
[0:39] SPEAKER_01: You believe it or not, I've only seen the Lion King.
[0:42] SPEAKER_01: You've never seen Lang King 1 and a half?
[0:44] SPEAKER_00: I have not.
[0:45] SPEAKER_00: What about the Timon and Pumba show?
[0:47] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[0:48] SPEAKER_00: Wait, I did on Disney.
[0:49] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[0:53] SPEAKER_00: I'm so sorry.
[0:54] SPEAKER_01: I'm missing my underwear hands right now.
[0:56] SPEAKER_01: Ah, underwear hands.
[0:57] SPEAKER_01: You look kind of like Little Mac with your underwear hands.
[1:00] SPEAKER_01: Uh yes.
[1:00] SPEAKER_01: Who's Little Mac?
[1:02] SPEAKER_01: You wouldn't get it.
[1:03] SPEAKER_01: Okay, I don't want to get it.
[1:04] SPEAKER_01: It's uh, you know, Troy and I go way back with these references.
[1:07] SPEAKER_01: Actually, Katie didn't even know what punch out was, which I don't know, do you know what punch out is?
[1:11] SPEAKER_01: No.
[1:13] SPEAKER_01: That's what Little Mac is from.
[1:15] SPEAKER_01: That's the video game punch out.
[1:16] SPEAKER_03: Oh, see?
[1:16] SPEAKER_03: Awkward.
[1:17] SPEAKER_01: Come on, Troy.
[1:18] SPEAKER_01: Like the little guy.
[1:18] SPEAKER_01: He's gotta like win.
[1:19] SPEAKER_01: He's gotta win big.
[1:20] SPEAKER_03: He's gotta punch out.
[1:21] SPEAKER_01: Anyway, hey, it's me, Jordan.
[1:24] SPEAKER_01: And you guys are here too, I guess.
[1:26] SPEAKER_03: I'm here.
[1:27] SPEAKER_03: It's Katie.
[1:28] SPEAKER_00: And I'm definitely here, and I'm T-Roy.
[1:31] SPEAKER_00: Where's Toaf, Troy?
[1:34] SPEAKER_00: Toaf?
[1:35] SPEAKER_00: Did Toaf make it in?
[1:36] SPEAKER_00: I don't know if Toaf made it yet.
[1:38] SPEAKER_03: If he doesn't show up for a couple more episodes, we're tough at.
[1:42] SPEAKER_01: Alright, Toafs.
[1:43] SPEAKER_01: This is Yip Yip Hooray, an Avatar podcast, and we covered episodes uh The Swamp, Avatar Day, and one of my personal favorites, the Blind Bandit.
[1:57] SPEAKER_03: Yeah?
[1:58] SPEAKER_03: Is that how you're gonna announce it?
[2:00] SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like uh an announcement.
[2:01] SPEAKER_03: The blonde I don't know what I'm doing.
[2:03] SPEAKER_03: The blonde bandit.
[2:05] SPEAKER_03: Okay, the swamp.
[2:07] SPEAKER_01: Yep, it's swampy.
[2:08] SPEAKER_03: Let's cut to the mustard.
[2:09] SPEAKER_01: Let's cut the mustard.
[2:11] SPEAKER_03: But I said cut to the mustard.
[2:12] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we could.
[2:13] SPEAKER_01: Is that like a like a film thing?
[2:14] SPEAKER_01: And then we cut to the mustard.
[2:16] SPEAKER_01: It's running away with the ketchup.
[2:18] SPEAKER_01: Troy, what do you think about The Swamp?
[2:20] SPEAKER_00: Wow, what an episode.
[2:22] SPEAKER_00: What a time.
[2:22] SPEAKER_00: What a time to be alive.
[2:24] SPEAKER_00: Oh my guys.
[2:25] SPEAKER_03: What a time to be alive.
[2:26] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that movie, The Sound of Music.
[2:28] SPEAKER_00: Of course you know it.
[2:29] SPEAKER_01: Well, instead of most people would say it was a musical, which it was first.
[2:34] SPEAKER_01: Mulan 1.
[2:35] SPEAKER_00: Wait, Sound of Music 1?
[2:36] SPEAKER_00: Sound of Music 1 and a half.
[2:38] SPEAKER_01: You remember Sound of Music 2 when they're just in the Alps?
[2:40] SPEAKER_01: Okay, no one's gonna laugh at this.
[2:42] SPEAKER_03: It's just my grandma will.
[2:43] SPEAKER_01: Hey Grandma.
[2:44] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
[2:44] SPEAKER_01: That's me.
[2:45] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she'd be like, don't call it Sound of Music One.
[2:47] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[2:48] SPEAKER_03: So what about it?
[2:49] SPEAKER_00: The hills are alive with the Sound of Music.
[2:51] SPEAKER_00: It felt like the Swamp is alive with Finish that sentence, please.
[2:55] SPEAKER_01: The Vines.
[2:56] SPEAKER_01: The swamp is alive with vines.
[2:59] SPEAKER_01: Swamp Benders.
[3:01] SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's get into the Swamp Benders.
[3:03] SPEAKER_01: Apparently, according to series lore, the swamp benders were actually ancestors to the water tribe.
[3:10] SPEAKER_01: There were no women, just so we all know.
[3:12] SPEAKER_01: I don't know how they've been reproducing for centuries.
[3:16] SPEAKER_03: Or, you know, the women are kept in the shadows.
[3:19] SPEAKER_01: Shadow women?
[3:20] SPEAKER_01: Or maybe they're asexual.
[3:22] SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
[3:22] SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's what Slim was for.
[3:24] SPEAKER_01: Maybe they hatch from eggs.
[3:25] SPEAKER_01: Who's Slim?
[3:26] SPEAKER_01: Slim was the cat gator.
[3:28] SPEAKER_00: And Katara never said anything about them not having their swamp women around.
[3:33] SPEAKER_00: She I'm surprised she didn't say anything about that.
[3:35] SPEAKER_00: Like, where are all the women at?
[3:36] SPEAKER_00: Like.
[3:37] SPEAKER_01: Why would Katara say that, you sexist man?
[3:40] SPEAKER_01: Right?
[3:40] SPEAKER_01: Or Aang?
[3:41] SPEAKER_01: I feel like Sokka would be like, where's the women at?
[3:44] SPEAKER_01: Hey ladies, where are you at?
[3:46] SPEAKER_01: I'm single, but he's.
[3:47] SPEAKER_00: I don't think Sokka would have been interested.
[3:50] SPEAKER_01: Not in a swamp lady?
[3:51] SPEAKER_01: No.
[3:52] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[3:53] SPEAKER_01: So the swamp, they're apparently derived from the Water Tribe, which is I don't understand how or why, but it would be an interesting miniseries.
[4:01] SPEAKER_01: I'd like to see that.
[4:02] SPEAKER_01: Also, the two main hillbillies that we meet, do and though, like, oh, I got one, one of them lemus.
[4:11] SPEAKER_01: So apparently those two guys were modeled after other Nickelodeon TV show creators.
[4:17] SPEAKER_01: They were modeled after uh Doug Tennipal Nipple and Carlos Ramos.
[4:23] SPEAKER_01: Uh and apparently it was the result of a caricature war between those guys and the Avatar team.
[4:29] SPEAKER_01: And they apparently Carlos Ramos is the was the like the little guy, like, oh that limo.
[4:35] SPEAKER_01: Uh and they were like, oh, if you think he's unflattering, you should see what he drew of us.
[4:41] SPEAKER_01: So I'd like to see what Mike and Brian ended up looking like in creepy, crazy caricatures.
[4:47] SPEAKER_01: Also, why are we in like the deep bayou?
[4:49] SPEAKER_03: Uh also, does anybody want some possum chicken?
[4:53] SPEAKER_01: Possum chicken?
[4:53] SPEAKER_01: This tastes like Arctic hen.
[4:56] SPEAKER_03: Why would you want possum?
[4:57] SPEAKER_03: No, possum chicken.
[4:58] SPEAKER_01: I know, but the possum half would still I mean a possum would probably be greasy.
[5:02] SPEAKER_03: Apparently that's what they had available.
[5:04] SPEAKER_03: But I think people do really eat possum.
[5:06] SPEAKER_03: Troy, have you had possum?
[5:07] SPEAKER_00: No.
[5:08] SPEAKER_00: Maybe in the south.
[5:09] SPEAKER_00: But I'm wondering, were the swamp people, were they modeled after, I don't know, Louisiana?
[5:14] SPEAKER_01: Like definitely it was like Bayou.
[5:16] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[5:17] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, deep south.
[5:18] SPEAKER_01: Maybe some Bama in there.
[5:19] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, if you're if you're from the South or uh yeah, the Bayou, are you offended by that episode?
[5:26] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, please let us know.
[5:27] SPEAKER_03: Send us an email.
[5:28] SPEAKER_03: We're sorry.
[5:29] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[5:30] SPEAKER_03: Can we talk about the beginning where Aang's like, I'm being pulled toward the swamp and they're flying over, and everyone's like not interested.
[5:41] SPEAKER_03: So he's like, okay, bye swamp, and then like sucks them in because they I guess they get hit by the tornado.
[5:47] SPEAKER_03: And then Appa gets like tangled in the vines.
[5:51] SPEAKER_03: Momo eats his way out.
[5:53] SPEAKER_03: And then Appa does this like beautiful like free fall.
[5:56] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[5:56] SPEAKER_03: That was nice.
[5:57] SPEAKER_03: And then obviously the best part was Momo grabbing the bison whistle.
[6:02] SPEAKER_01: And just freaking Appa out.
[6:04] SPEAKER_01: Like continuously blowing louder.
[6:06] SPEAKER_01: And then Appa squishing him like an insect.
[6:08] SPEAKER_03: So that's one of my favorite Appa and Momo episodes episodes.
[6:12] SPEAKER_03: Moments?
[6:13] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[6:13] SPEAKER_03: Favorite Appa and Momo moments.
[6:16] SPEAKER_01: We call them Mo Moments.
[6:19] SPEAKER_03: How about Ma'apets?
[6:21] SPEAKER_01: Ma'Appets?
[6:22] SPEAKER_01: Sounds like the Muppets.
[6:23] SPEAKER_01: Ma'aps.
[6:23] SPEAKER_01: Moa Moap.
[6:25] SPEAKER_01: Mo Wana.
[6:26] SPEAKER_01: Moop moments.
[6:28] SPEAKER_01: These are great.
[6:29] SPEAKER_01: So do we think that the swamp is actually like a magical place?
[6:32] SPEAKER_03: Did it feel magical, Troy?
[6:34] SPEAKER_01: It's a hard episode to get my brain around.
[6:37] SPEAKER_01: It was different than what we've been used to.
[6:40] SPEAKER_03: I think instead of like that term magical, I think that it's there's energy.
[6:45] SPEAKER_03: You know, when things get quiet and you're surrounded by a lot of different energies, creatures, whatever, you can kind of silence your mind.
[6:54] SPEAKER_03: And yeah.
[6:55] SPEAKER_03: I mean, even though, as we learned, everything's alive, the world's connected, la la la.
[7:02] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that moment was really great, just uh understanding that the swamp is so interconnected, and because it's maybe not magic like we would maybe interpret magic, but yeah, those different energies coming together, and kind of like the spirit of the earth kind of thing is kind of like a a center point for that.
[7:20] SPEAKER_01: Going to Hugh, the enlightened guy that we meet in this episode, who's in like the swamp monster thing.
[7:26] SPEAKER_03: Right, who's ready to just like kick their hiny.
[7:30] SPEAKER_01: Well, because he's protecting the swamp.
[7:32] SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
[7:34] SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah.
[7:35] SPEAKER_01: These people are clearly not in touch with the world.
[7:38] SPEAKER_03: Well, definitely Sokka, who is just so destructive and just keeps cutting all the vines.
[7:44] SPEAKER_01: Well, Sokka's Mr.
[7:46] SPEAKER_01: Logic.
[7:46] SPEAKER_01: He's like, there's there's a reason for why this is happening.
[7:49] SPEAKER_01: It's not the reason you guys are thinking that we're just in a weird swamp and we're just gonna brute force our way out of here, which isn't the solution.
[7:57] SPEAKER_03: Well, okay, and I feel like Katara and Aang asked Sokka to not cut the vines or like be so destructive.
[8:05] SPEAKER_03: And yeah, to like despite them, he's like, mmm.
[8:09] SPEAKER_03: He's like, Oh, I talked to the swamp and the swamp said it's fine, and he's kind of a little rat.
[8:14] SPEAKER_01: It wasn't a great moment for Sokka, but it you know, Sokka, I think it tracks for his character.
[8:19] SPEAKER_01: He's uh he said he's the leader on multiple occasions.
[8:23] SPEAKER_01: So being the oldest, he's obviously correct.
[8:27] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[8:28] SPEAKER_01: I mean, I can probably relate to that.
[8:30] SPEAKER_00: What'd you think about the visions, like you know, Katara seeing her mother, Sokka seeing UA, and then I'm gonna be honest, uh, when Aang was chasing on that giggling little girl and there was like a an a boar next to her, right?
[8:47] SPEAKER_01: So creepy.
[8:48] SPEAKER_00: So I thought when they said that those are visions and he couldn't recognize the girl, and he says, Well, maybe that's somebody I'm going to meet.
[8:57] SPEAKER_00: I thought maybe that was gonna be Aang's possible future daughter, and they have a pet boar in memory of Appa for whatever reason.
[9:04] SPEAKER_01: That's that would have been kind of cool.
[9:06] SPEAKER_00: That's what I was starting to think.
[9:07] SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, we're never gonna meet this girl.
[9:10] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, how about you, Katie?
[9:11] SPEAKER_01: How'd you interpret those visions?
[9:12] SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, again, just going back to the swamp and when things kind of get quiet and you can kind of pay attention to the energy all around you and and yeah, people that you miss.
[9:24] SPEAKER_03: I mean it's a nice, it's a bittersweet moment, and the swamp showing you I don't know, what's on your heart maybe.
[9:31] SPEAKER_01: And maybe it's because our leads are kind of alone for the first time in this high energy area, and they're able to kind of w see these things that are on their heart and their mind kind of manifest.
[9:44] SPEAKER_01: It was really, really interesting.
[9:46] SPEAKER_01: It was really sad for Sokka, because I don't think he's obviously he hasn't processed what happened with Yue, and it's weighing heavily on him, but we don't get that opportunity to really hear him talk about that more.
[9:57] SPEAKER_01: Like he just kind of like brushes it off.
[9:59] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[10:00] SPEAKER_01: Even though if what's on Sokka's heart is what manifested in that UE thing, like, yeah, Yue was not happy, you didn't protect me, and then Sokka is like having to deal with that.
[10:10] SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, Katara probably blames herself for some reason for losing her their mother, and then Aang gets the the crazy trip one.
[10:18] SPEAKER_01: Which I don't know.
[10:19] SPEAKER_01: So I think Aang Singtoff was probably more to set up the rest.
[10:25] SPEAKER_01: It was very plot-y, like there I think Aang would have seen like Yatso or something.
[10:29] SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
[10:29] SPEAKER_03: I agree.
[10:30] SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it was really like believable.
[10:32] SPEAKER_03: And yeah, I think there there was a missed opportunity for like kind of supporting Sokka.
[10:39] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
[10:39] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[10:40] SPEAKER_03: I yeah, I think that that probably would have been really nice to just acknowledge like the like their visions.
[10:47] SPEAKER_03: But whatever.
[10:48] SPEAKER_03: Troy.
[10:49] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I I don't have a whole lot to say about the swamp.
[10:51] SPEAKER_00: It just It felt like one of those episodes where their personal feelings were really being thrown back at them, and I don't know, it was just yeah, a hard episode to wrap my head around.
[11:03] SPEAKER_01: Circling back on Aang's vision, maybe it does track in terms of his character development because I think maybe what's been on his heart is like being so focused on finding an earthbender.
[11:14] SPEAKER_03: That's true.
[11:15] SPEAKER_01: And so that's where his mind is at, which might be good progress for Aang.
[11:18] SPEAKER_01: Like he's not stuck in the past.
[11:20] SPEAKER_01: So we're I'm glad we can talk through this.
[11:22] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, that's true.
[11:23] SPEAKER_03: That's true.
[11:24] SPEAKER_03: Look at us.
[11:25] SPEAKER_03: Also, when Oppa and Momo are being chased by the swamp kids, why can't Oppa just fly out of there?
[11:31] SPEAKER_01: Well, I think they try to make a point that Appa can't fly out of there because every time he tries to leave, he gets wrapped up in the vines.
[11:38] SPEAKER_01: Because Momo freed him and then he got wrapped in the vines again.
[11:41] SPEAKER_03: I thought there was something to that, but as I was watching, I'm like, I feel like Appa could do something right now.
[11:49] SPEAKER_03: But No, he could definitely have just fought them instead of he looks back, Momo's like bagged up and he's like, well, gotta keep going.
[11:56] SPEAKER_01: Momo also like just throws all their stuff at them.
[11:59] SPEAKER_01: Like he's tossing Sokka's pants, he's tossing just just random things.
[12:03] SPEAKER_01: Momo is not materialistic at all.
[12:06] SPEAKER_03: I know.
[12:07] SPEAKER_03: I feel like we don't get any resolution.
[12:09] SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, does Sokka ever be like, hey, what happened to my pants?
[12:11] SPEAKER_03: You know, we don't ever talk about that.
[12:13] SPEAKER_03: I mean, maybe they give them back.
[12:15] SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's true.
[12:16] SPEAKER_03: Well, don't they end up in the swamp?
[12:19] unknown: I don't know.
[12:19] SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about those outfits.
[12:20] SPEAKER_01: Like, they're wearing giant leaves on their heads and loincloths.
[12:23] SPEAKER_01: I can't get over it.
[12:24] SPEAKER_01: And they're lanky.
[12:25] SPEAKER_01: I don't know, there's something about the way that's one bugs.
[12:28] SPEAKER_01: They're freaking me out.
[12:29] SPEAKER_01: Their character models weird me out.
[12:31] SPEAKER_01: Like the way they move to Waterbend, it's like this weird kind of creepy dance.
[12:35] SPEAKER_01: Like, I would it's like deliverance.
[12:38] SPEAKER_00: It totally reminds me of the uh Oregon Country Affair, dare I say it.
[12:43] SPEAKER_00: I've never been.
[12:44] SPEAKER_00: Well, do they eat giant bugs?
[12:46] SPEAKER_03: That's what they're like.
[12:47] SPEAKER_00: Oh man, it was quite the show.
[12:50] SPEAKER_03: What do you think about that, dude?
[12:52] SPEAKER_03: I don't think they quite talk like that.
[12:54] SPEAKER_03: Don't talk about this.
[12:55] SPEAKER_00: I definitely saw many people with and without loincloths.
[12:59] SPEAKER_01: Would you like to see me without a loincloth, Troy?
[13:02] SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
[13:03] SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
[13:04] SPEAKER_00: One embrace.
[13:05] SPEAKER_00: Stop wearing the seeming.
[13:06] SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
[13:07] SPEAKER_03: But when they have their their profound like tree talk with what's his name?
[13:12] SPEAKER_03: Hugh.
[13:13] SPEAKER_03: Hugh.
[13:14] SPEAKER_01: Which is spelled H-U-U.
[13:16] SPEAKER_01: Hugh.
[13:17] SPEAKER_01: Wait, can we put a pin in what you're about to say?
[13:19] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[13:19] SPEAKER_01: Hugh comes out as this giant swamp monster.
[13:22] SPEAKER_01: Did you think that he was like actually a monster, Troy?
[13:25] SPEAKER_00: No, I thought he was actually the uh master earth bender that Aang was supposed to meet.
[13:30] SPEAKER_00: Oh, that'd be kind of cool.
[13:32] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[13:32] SPEAKER_00: Like that was like some of his first lesson, because he goes, he goes, I feel like the Earth's talking to me.
[13:36] SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh, this episode's gonna get really deep.
[13:38] SPEAKER_00: But it turned out to not get that deep, like, at all, except for Well, it got super deep.
[13:43] SPEAKER_00: Except for Sok and Katara's visions.
[13:45] SPEAKER_00: Those were like the only two deep deep things I found in the episode.
[13:48] SPEAKER_01: We're gonna come back to what's deep in this episode, Troy.
[13:50] SPEAKER_01: But it's in it's an interesting thing that you you're talking about, Troy, like with the earth.
[13:54] SPEAKER_01: Like, I think the plants, it kind of went through this weird, kind of like hazy area between the earth and water.
[14:00] SPEAKER_01: And I think it's one of those moments where we see that the world is much more connected than it is different.
[14:05] SPEAKER_01: Like you're able to interpret that maybe it was an earth thing, they're using water.
[14:10] SPEAKER_01: Yada yada yada.
[14:11] SPEAKER_01: So I thought Katara had some of her best waterbending moments of the series so far when she's battling Hugh in the swamp monster.
[14:18] SPEAKER_01: Like she did that thing where she's like waving her arms around like a windmill and like shooting off like razor-sharp bouts of water, and she like cut cut Hugh out.
[14:26] SPEAKER_01: It was really good.
[14:27] SPEAKER_01: Katara had a really good moment.
[14:28] SPEAKER_01: She was definitely MVP of that episode.
[14:30] SPEAKER_01: Every time Aang showed up in that fight, though, there was like this triumphant like flare of music that would crescendo and be like, da-da! Like every time Aang would show up, and then he would like punch him back into the woods, and then Katara would actually be effective, and then here comes Aang again, coming out of the trees.
[14:46] SPEAKER_01: Da-da! Every time it happened like three times, and Aang didn't do that much, so he didn't deserve any of that.
[14:53] SPEAKER_03: I almost want to rewatch it now.
[14:55] SPEAKER_03: Da!
[14:56] SPEAKER_00: But I'm not gonna even I thought, wow, this is repetitive.
[14:59] SPEAKER_00: He just keeps getting pushed away, and there's Katara doing all the work.
[15:03] SPEAKER_01: Yep, it sounds about right.
[15:04] SPEAKER_01: With no credit, guys.
[15:07] SPEAKER_01: None.
[15:07] SPEAKER_03: Okay, so then we finally we befriend Hugh.
[15:10] SPEAKER_03: He's like, oh hey guys, you know, I'm cool.
[15:14] SPEAKER_03: You're cool, we're cool.
[15:15] SPEAKER_03: You're cool.
[15:16] SPEAKER_03: And and yeah, and I think I wish I had the dialogue, like what he he says, because it's pretty well it just so happens, Katie.
[15:24] SPEAKER_03: Oh, good.
[15:25] SPEAKER_01: So one of the things Hugh says is we're all living together, even if most of us don't act like it.
[15:31] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I thought that was pretty powerful.
[15:33] SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously it still applies.
[15:35] SPEAKER_03: I mean, you could apply that throughout history in real life and in Avatar life.
[15:40] SPEAKER_03: Yes.
[15:40] SPEAKER_03: Say it again.
[15:41] SPEAKER_01: Hugh says we are all living together, even if us, even if most of us don't act like it.
[15:48] SPEAKER_03: Right.
[15:48] SPEAKER_03: And like I think that we all kind of, well not we all, but there's times where you just kind of like, I'm doing my thing, you're doing your thing, uh, we're not connected.
[15:58] SPEAKER_03: It's like we're separate, and that's and that's not it.
[16:01] SPEAKER_03: It's like we're all living here on the same earth.
[16:03] SPEAKER_01: And that's like a miracle, like you people listening on this podcast.
[16:07] SPEAKER_01: It's a miracle that we are here on the earth at the same time, like over the course of human history.
[16:12] SPEAKER_01: Like, it's kind of like a cool thing that we're all here together.
[16:14] SPEAKER_03: And right, we're all sharing the pandemic.
[16:18] SPEAKER_03: We're all sharing the Well, hopefully we're not sharing the pandemic, Katie.
[16:22] SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
[16:22] SPEAKER_01: Jesus.
[16:23] SPEAKER_03: Say that again.
[16:24] SPEAKER_03: Let's say it again.
[16:24] SPEAKER_03: What am I trying to say, Troy?
[16:26] SPEAKER_01: We're all in this together.
[16:27] SPEAKER_01: We're in this fight.
[16:28] SPEAKER_03: Are you Troy?
[16:29] SPEAKER_03: Are you Troy?
[16:29] SPEAKER_03: Oh yes.
[16:31] SPEAKER_03: Yes I am.
[16:31] SPEAKER_03: Hello together.
[16:33] SPEAKER_00: Oh, we're all in this fight, you know.
[16:35] SPEAKER_00: Jordan says it best.
[16:36] SPEAKER_00: Uh, why do you sound like Mickey Mouse?
[16:37] SPEAKER_00: Like Mickey Mouse going through puberty.
[16:39] SPEAKER_03: Is that what Mickey Mouse sounds like?
[16:40] SPEAKER_01: If he's going through puberty.
[16:42] SPEAKER_03: Do you have more quotes?
[16:43] SPEAKER_01: Of course I have more quotes.
[16:44] SPEAKER_01: Oh, good.
[16:44] SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's keep going.
[16:45] SPEAKER_01: Okay, other quote that Hugh says, it's not huge.
[16:49] SPEAKER_01: I mean, the other one was more kind of enlightenedful.
[16:51] SPEAKER_01: Which with Hugh, there's uh more references to the Buddha with him, like the Buddha reached enlightenment under a Bodhi tree, body tree, I'm not sure how you pronounce it.
[17:00] SPEAKER_01: But then Hugh reached enlightenment under under the giant banyan grove tree, which I thought was a good point to make that we have this perception that these people are like these bayou swamp monster people, but then you have this one who's like really connected to the earth and he's very spiritual, and he's been able to reach enlightenment and kind of have a greater understanding of like the human condition, and yet he still, you know, kind of talks, it's me, Hugh.
[17:25] SPEAKER_01: That was nice.
[17:25] SPEAKER_01: It was nice that it could it could battle what preconceived notions you might have that maybe these swamp people come across as like they're kind of ignorant, but they're they're not.
[17:34] SPEAKER_03: Right.
[17:34] SPEAKER_03: No, he's totally informed, connected, and gonna protect the sacred space that he Yeah, he he knows what's there and values it and sees the importance.
[17:45] SPEAKER_01: And so the other quote that I really like that Hugh says is time is an illusion, and so is death.
[17:51] SPEAKER_01: And I thought that was a really powerful quote.
[17:53] SPEAKER_03: Troy, if nothing, I feel like you're anti-swamp.
[17:56] SPEAKER_00: I kinda am.
[17:58] SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's true.
[17:58] SPEAKER_00: Like you literally did the other one.
[18:00] SPEAKER_00: You literally had swamp people that remind me of Swamp People.
[18:05] SPEAKER_00: You got, you know, several different visions going on, and you've got a guy that's modeled after Buddha or practicing the same rituals as Buddha.
[18:12] SPEAKER_00: I'm like, they didn't really drive a point.
[18:14] SPEAKER_00: It was just more like not like a singular point, you think?
[18:17] SPEAKER_00: Pretty much.
[18:18] SPEAKER_00: I was it was just a little too far spread across.
[18:21] SPEAKER_00: Good episode, but just too far spread out for me to really put anything in there.
[18:27] SPEAKER_01: That's fair.
[18:27] SPEAKER_01: I mean, I appreciate that they have so much going on.
[18:30] SPEAKER_01: Like it's a very I mean it's a very complex episode in a lot of ways.
[18:34] SPEAKER_01: And like the the time is an illusion part, I think it's really powerful.
[18:37] SPEAKER_01: It's just like this thing that we we see as so concrete.
[18:41] SPEAKER_01: This thing happened in the past, this thing will happen in the future, and you kind of remove yourself from it, where if you just understand that this the concept of time in general is this construct that we put power into.
[18:53] SPEAKER_01: Like, it's not actually July right now.
[18:57] SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just like we've we've given this thing a name and we are just on this earth, and it's going to go through the same phases, and we try to superimpose meaning onto that when we are at the mercy of the planet and the earth and and our own whims.
[19:14] SPEAKER_03: Right, and who's to say how much time we have, and it's that's I mean, that's even further.
[19:20] SPEAKER_01: Well, that's true too.
[19:20] SPEAKER_01: I mean, time is an illusion.
[19:21] SPEAKER_01: Like the time that you have is an illusion.
[19:24] SPEAKER_03: Right.
[19:24] SPEAKER_03: And like thinking, like, oh, I'll do that in like a few years, and it's you know tomorrow's never promised.
[19:30] SPEAKER_03: Which is kind of deep, but that's good.
[19:32] SPEAKER_03: You know.
[19:33] SPEAKER_03: We gotta live in the now, and that's what we got.
[19:36] SPEAKER_01: So yeah, the swamp.
[19:37] SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
[19:38] SPEAKER_03: Wait, wait, last thing.
[19:39] SPEAKER_03: So, right, Aang puts his hand on the on the trees.
[19:43] SPEAKER_01: Love that moment.
[19:44] SPEAKER_03: Uh, I also love that moment, except it freaking dragged on.
[19:48] SPEAKER_03: I was like, okay, if we're really in this hurry, it's like we're watching us like going down to K.
[19:52] SPEAKER_03: We're like, mmm.
[19:54] SPEAKER_03: It's a big swamp, Katie.
[19:55] SPEAKER_03: I was like, wait, I haven't found him yet.
[19:57] SPEAKER_03: He's never done this before.
[19:59] SPEAKER_03: You didn't think it seemed a little long?
[20:02] SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I was into it.
[20:04] SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
[20:06] SPEAKER_00: It dragged on for a good three seconds.
[20:07] SPEAKER_00: I'm like, you I'm like, you can't.
[20:10] SPEAKER_00: Three seconds?
[20:10] SPEAKER_00: That's what she said.
[20:11] SPEAKER_00: I was like, speed it up, buddy.
[20:13] SPEAKER_00: Come on, find that app.
[20:15] SPEAKER_00: Find that APA.
[20:15] SPEAKER_00: Find that app the APA app.
[20:18] SPEAKER_03: Anyway, I really like that part because I think it's really it's good for our avatar who's very immature and can't, you know, he's figuring it out slowly, you know, and then just kind of being more connected to pe other people and in the earth, and just kind of just being more grounded and connected.
[20:38] SPEAKER_01: And that's like his job is to be connected to both people, the earth, the spirits, and I think it's the first moment that we see Aang kind of be connected to the earth in that way.
[20:49] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[20:50] SPEAKER_03: No, no.
[20:50] SPEAKER_03: It was good.
[20:51] SPEAKER_01: We're all growing.
[20:52] SPEAKER_01: Something that's not growing is the next episode, Avatar Dave.
[20:58] SPEAKER_01: Which I view this one as book two's The Great Divide.
[21:02] SPEAKER_03: Which do we feel like don't you don't didn't you enjoy The Great Divide more?
[21:06] SPEAKER_01: Absolutely not.
[21:08] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[21:08] SPEAKER_01: It's like Lob Diminishing Returns.
[21:10] SPEAKER_01: Like, I get less out of it every time I watch The Great Divide.
[21:13] SPEAKER_01: I will never watch it again when we're through this podcast.
[21:16] SPEAKER_03: Oh, but what about the little spider things are like crawling up?
[21:19] SPEAKER_03: Canyon crawlers!
[21:20] SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
[21:20] SPEAKER_01: Stop talking about it, you got to Avatar Day.
[21:23] SPEAKER_01: Okay, the one thing that makes Avatar Day watchable is the Zuko and Iroh parts, which finally we get something.
[21:31] SPEAKER_03: Okay, right.
[21:32] SPEAKER_03: But we start with poor Sokka losing his boomerang.
[21:36] SPEAKER_01: And his identity in the process.
[21:38] SPEAKER_03: And Katara's totally dismissive.
[21:40] SPEAKER_03: It's like, well, yeah, I needed my waterbending scrolls and Aang needed his staff.
[21:45] SPEAKER_01: It didn't seem very characteristic of our friends to leave something like that behind.
[21:50] SPEAKER_01: I was like, I feel like you guys could have circled back.
[21:52] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, those guys weren't that tough.
[21:53] SPEAKER_01: I mean, you guys have d dealt with worse.
[21:55] SPEAKER_01: Like they just weren't trying.
[21:57] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and uh, believe it or not, I didn't get much out of.
[22:00] SPEAKER_00: Zuko and I wrote this episode.
[22:01] SPEAKER_00: I was like, eh.
[22:03] SPEAKER_00: It was more the one element of this episode that really redeemed it for me was Avatar Roku shows up.
[22:14] SPEAKER_00: No.
[22:14] SPEAKER_01: He shows up as a giant pinata that gets set on fire.
[22:18] SPEAKER_01: Troy.
[22:18] SPEAKER_01: That's right.
[22:19] SPEAKER_00: Kyoshi.
[22:20] SPEAKER_00: Hey, they both showed up.
[22:22] SPEAKER_00: One in pinata form, the other one also in pinata form.
[22:26] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
[22:26] SPEAKER_01: So yeah, we meet Avatar Kyoshi for the first time, which we have known about her, but haven't really learned much about her.
[22:32] SPEAKER_00: She definitely had the best one-liner in this episode, I think.
[22:36] SPEAKER_00: It was like, I was like, is there any context to this episode?
[22:39] SPEAKER_00: Then she shows up and she goes, I am guilty.
[22:41] SPEAKER_00: I confess.
[22:42] SPEAKER_01: Shows up, I killed Commander Chin.
[22:44] SPEAKER_01: Just like suit.
[22:45] SPEAKER_01: I mean, Kyoshi seems like the coolest avatar.
[22:48] SPEAKER_03: Unapologetic.
[22:49] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
[22:50] SPEAKER_03: No.
[22:50] SPEAKER_01: Powerful.
[22:51] SPEAKER_01: Has the largest feet of any avatar.
[22:53] SPEAKER_03: Good.
[22:54] SPEAKER_01: Good for her.
[22:55] SPEAKER_01: Yes.
[22:56] SPEAKER_01: That's like thousands of avatars, by the way.
[22:58] SPEAKER_03: Well, did anybody uh catch the elephant rat?
[23:03] SPEAKER_01: Yes, I did.
[23:04] SPEAKER_01: I've never noticed it before.
[23:06] SPEAKER_03: Me either.
[23:07] SPEAKER_01: How was the that for you?
[23:09] SPEAKER_01: Elephant rat.
[23:09] SPEAKER_03: Semi-disturbing.
[23:11] SPEAKER_03: Why?
[23:11] SPEAKER_03: I was I mean, I was kind of into it, but kind of not.
[23:13] SPEAKER_03: You're like, mmm, hello, little elephant rat.
[23:15] SPEAKER_03: All these little creepy little things freaking me out.
[23:19] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[23:20] SPEAKER_03: Can we also talk about Zuko stealing like everyone's stuff?
[23:23] SPEAKER_01: Like, he steals an unnecessary amount of things.
[23:27] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's like, hmm, I'm just being a little bee about not wanting to be poor and it's not.
[23:32] SPEAKER_01: No, he's he's not taking it very well.
[23:35] SPEAKER_03: No.
[23:35] SPEAKER_03: I was very unimpressed with Zuko.
[23:37] SPEAKER_03: Wait, don't tell me.
[23:39] SPEAKER_03: Don't tell me this surprised you.
[23:40] SPEAKER_03: No, it didn't surprise me, but it just i irked me.
[23:43] SPEAKER_01: Mmm, good word.
[23:45] SPEAKER_03: Disappointed Z.
[23:47] SPEAKER_01: But Iroh, it's interesting how well he's taking it.
[23:51] SPEAKER_01: Like, Iroh has definitely reached like some form of enlightenment.
[23:54] SPEAKER_01: Like, he is so zen about this whole thing.
[23:57] SPEAKER_01: And in the last episode, when that Jerko shows up with the two swords and is like making Iroh sing, again, a great instance of Mako having this beautiful voice.
[24:07] SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Oh, I love a fat man, I love making a fat man dance for his dinner.
[24:11] SPEAKER_01: I was like, that guy's a jerk.
[24:14] SPEAKER_01: And then Zuko shows up at the end of the swamp episode, and I don't know, dispatches that guy.
[24:20] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[24:20] SPEAKER_01: Takes his swords.
[24:22] SPEAKER_00: Okay, believe it or not, I did not recognize those swords until Zuko picked them up again.
[24:26] SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh yeah, those are his swords.
[24:28] SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, we don't know that they are his swords, but they're twin broadswords, which is what Zuko was using as the blue spirit.
[24:33] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[24:34] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when they're sitting there and Zuko's like all grumpy, there's a cart that goes by and has a bunch of masks on it, and the top right corner is the blue spirit mask.
[24:42] SPEAKER_01: And so we're assuming Zuko probably also stole that.
[24:45] SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
[24:46] SPEAKER_01: Stole the mask, stole the swords, stole our hearts.
[24:48] SPEAKER_03: Stole the little critter they're riding around on.
[24:51] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's a kleptomaniac.
[24:53] SPEAKER_03: Okay, back to Avatar Day.
[24:54] SPEAKER_03: So.
[24:55] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[24:56] SPEAKER_03: So they are, you know, it was like, oh, that guy's like, oh, you're going to Avatar Day, right?
[25:01] SPEAKER_03: And they're like, what?
[25:02] SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
[25:02] SPEAKER_03: So we find out the whole town, like, hates the Avatar.
[25:05] SPEAKER_01: They were a great society till you killed our leader.
[25:08] SPEAKER_01: The whole, like, all the extras in this episode, except for beautiful James Wong as the mayor guy, there's some bad voice actors.
[25:17] SPEAKER_01: Like, I they all sound really like kind of commercially like, oh, hey, it's Avatar Day.
[25:24] SPEAKER_01: Did you know that we were a great society, and then now we're all a bunch of heinous dwarves with drool coming out the sides of our mouth?
[25:32] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[25:33] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[25:34] SPEAKER_03: So then Aang gets put in jail, and then he has that amazing time with like the jail support support group.
[25:42] SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, those other inmates are fantastic.
[25:45] SPEAKER_01: A plus.
[25:46] SPEAKER_01: No, they were they were a delight.
[25:48] SPEAKER_01: No, we meet like bald neck tattoo, body tattoo guy, and he seems like he's gonna be really scary.
[25:54] SPEAKER_01: He's like, hey, bald head, nice tattoos, drop in the soap.
[25:59] SPEAKER_01: It's me, Carl.
[26:01] SPEAKER_03: Get out.
[26:03] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah, but the greatest moment, do you remember what the line was during the support group?
[26:08] SPEAKER_03: The line?
[26:09] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the line, and I have it written down.
[26:12] SPEAKER_01: The line was don't be afraid to tell her how you feel.
[26:16] SPEAKER_01: And the guy's like crying, like sobbing.
[26:19] SPEAKER_01: What did Aang tell them?
[26:21] SPEAKER_03: That there was a girl.
[26:23] SPEAKER_00: Who do we think it is?
[26:24] SPEAKER_03: Well, we're gonna find out.
[26:26] SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
[26:26] SPEAKER_00: I'm not shipping anybody anytime soon.
[26:28] SPEAKER_00: Not shipping anybody?
[26:29] SPEAKER_00: No.
[26:30] SPEAKER_00: Not even me and Katie.
[26:32] SPEAKER_03: Okay, so then to get Aang out of jail.
[26:36] SPEAKER_01: We do Law and Order Avatar Edition.
[26:38] SPEAKER_03: Brother and sister go on a hunt to get some evidence.
[26:43] SPEAKER_01: Soc and Qatar go on an adventure.
[26:46] SPEAKER_03: And they end up going back to Kiyoshi Island, and everyone's stoked to see them.
[26:53] SPEAKER_03: Or so they think it's Aang, but he's not there.
[26:57] SPEAKER_01: And obviously the best one is Foam at the Mouth guy.
[27:00] SPEAKER_03: Who loses his bananas.
[27:03] SPEAKER_03: Just like overlooking.
[27:04] SPEAKER_00: He's almost as good as Cabbage Guy.
[27:10] SPEAKER_01: And then he's so embarrassed when he when he realizes Aang's not there.
[27:15] SPEAKER_01: He like leaves.
[27:16] SPEAKER_01: I'm assuming moved away.
[27:18] SPEAKER_00: Like he left.
[27:19] SPEAKER_00: It's a lovely moment.
[27:20] SPEAKER_00: Like that was one thing that really dragged out.
[27:23] SPEAKER_00: The fact that he gets up and he's looking around and watches the phone.
[27:28] SPEAKER_00: Puts the room up over his head and then moves into the crowd.
[27:32] SPEAKER_00: And the whole time you got your eyes on him, but then I realized, do they have the villagers?
[27:36] SPEAKER_00: Were they doing anything?
[27:38] SPEAKER_00: No.
[27:38] SPEAKER_03: No.
[27:39] SPEAKER_01: No, they just stood there.
[27:40] SPEAKER_01: Their background, they turned into a painting.
[27:42] SPEAKER_03: I also had the same thing as I was watching.
[27:45] SPEAKER_03: Like, what the heck?
[27:46] SPEAKER_00: Like, there's gonna be nothing said between stocks and guitar and these villagers.
[27:51] SPEAKER_00: All this dude is like picking himself up, looking at everybody, like, y'all didn't see that?
[27:55] SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
[27:56] SPEAKER_00: Wipe, sleeve, hood overhead.
[27:59] SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna.
[28:00] SPEAKER_01: You realize this is like probably a daily occurrence for that guy.
[28:03] SPEAKER_01: Like he walks in, they're like, oh my god, we have your favorite biscuits today.
[28:05] SPEAKER_01: He's like, boost.
[28:08] SPEAKER_01: They gotta clean it up because it's foam is everywhere.
[28:13] SPEAKER_01: Do we think he's maybe like a secret waterbender?
[28:16] SPEAKER_01: Like he's waterbending all that foam out of his mouth.
[28:18] SPEAKER_03: Oh god.
[28:19] SPEAKER_01: I'm getting my mouth's getting kind of wicked.
[28:20] SPEAKER_03: Guys, give me the hiccup some lemon.
[28:22] SPEAKER_01: My mouth's getting all wicked.
[28:27] SPEAKER_01: And then frickin' Coco, who is one of the worst parts of that episode, like Aang's girlfriend from the Warriors of Kyoshi episode, she shows up with her weird tiny cherubic voice.
[28:38] SPEAKER_03: Melly, where's Aang y at?
[28:40] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
[28:41] SPEAKER_01: Oh, sorry, Coco.
[28:42] SPEAKER_01: I know.
[28:43] SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Coco.
[28:44] SPEAKER_03: Okay, wait, wait.
[28:45] SPEAKER_03: But then the guy at the man in charge.
[28:50] SPEAKER_03: Oh, of Kyoshi Island.
[28:51] SPEAKER_03: Yes, tells Sokka Juju that Suki like went off with the other warriors and she was so inspired by them.
[29:00] SPEAKER_01: No, it was really great to hear that Suki and the other warriors were inspired to go and like fight in the warp.
[29:05] SPEAKER_01: Does that mean that no one's like protecting Kyoshi Island right now?
[29:09] SPEAKER_01: They're on an island.
[29:10] SPEAKER_01: What happened to the Unagi, the giant scary monster water, monster water, water monster?
[29:15] SPEAKER_01: They're at peace.
[29:16] SPEAKER_01: That's good.
[29:17] SPEAKER_01: Thank you for these answers.
[29:18] SPEAKER_01: They're very inspired.
[29:20] SPEAKER_01: But can we just like go to this moment?
[29:21] SPEAKER_01: Like, Sokka can't catch a break with the ladies right now.
[29:24] SPEAKER_01: Like, UA's gone, Suki's gone.
[29:27] SPEAKER_01: I'd like to see Suki again.
[29:29] SPEAKER_01: I want to know what she's doing.
[29:30] SPEAKER_01: Yes.
[29:31] SPEAKER_01: Troy, do you miss Suki?
[29:32] SPEAKER_01: Do you remember Suki?
[29:33] SPEAKER_03: Do you remember all the clones?
[29:34] SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's like Suki and the clones.
[29:38] SPEAKER_01: I do remember.
[29:39] SPEAKER_01: For for you, you folks at home listening to this in your bathrobe with your cigar.
[29:45] SPEAKER_01: Katie has hiccups right now.
[29:46] SPEAKER_01: Thinking about foam at the mouth guy.
[29:48] SPEAKER_03: Woo! Woo! Stop.
[29:50] SPEAKER_03: Alright.
[29:51] SPEAKER_03: Troy, go.
[29:52] SPEAKER_00: Oh well, I remember Suki, but I don't exactly say I miss her.
[29:57] SPEAKER_00: What?
[29:58] SPEAKER_03: She's too hardcore.
[29:59] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[30:00] SPEAKER_01: She's a warrior, but she's a girl too.
[30:02] SPEAKER_03: Remember, like in uh Sokka when he was Peak Rat and he was like, uh, girls, bunch of girls beat me up.
[30:10] SPEAKER_03: You remember that?
[30:11] SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
[30:12] SPEAKER_00: Take him down.
[30:14] SPEAKER_00: I it this episode didn't really come off the didn't come across as an episode where if she was there, it would have made a big that big of a difference.
[30:23] SPEAKER_00: I mean That's fair.
[30:24] SPEAKER_00: It's actually for the better, because this is actually Sokka's most cringiest episode by far.
[30:29] SPEAKER_03: That's right.
[30:30] SPEAKER_00: I wanna solve it.
[30:31] SPEAKER_00: I wanna solve it.
[30:32] SPEAKER_00: Shut up, Katara.
[30:34] SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna solve it.
[30:34] SPEAKER_00: I'm like, who are we going for?
[30:36] SPEAKER_00: Are we going for Go-Go Gadget?
[30:39] SPEAKER_00: Are we going for Sherlock Holmes?
[30:41] SPEAKER_00: Like, what are we doing, Sokka?
[30:42] SPEAKER_00: Why is Gogo Gadget number one?
[30:44] SPEAKER_01: Not Inspector Gadget, you guys.
[30:46] SPEAKER_01: He's got a name, okay?
[30:48] SPEAKER_01: He's not Gogo Gadget.
[30:50] SPEAKER_01: You don't call Goku Kamea Mea Mea Mea.
[30:53] SPEAKER_01: You don't call Ash Pikachu.
[30:55] SPEAKER_01: You're staring at my neck, Katie.
[30:56] SPEAKER_01: No, I'm staring at your cheek.
[30:58] SPEAKER_01: Is the vein bulging?
[30:59] SPEAKER_03: No, I don't know if it's blood or if you did got pen.
[31:02] SPEAKER_03: Blood?
[31:03] SPEAKER_01: Red pen or blood?
[31:04] SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's definitely blood.
[31:06] SPEAKER_01: I am bleeding.
[31:07] SPEAKER_03: No.
[31:08] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[31:09] SPEAKER_00: So but we get Sokka as a detective.
[31:13] SPEAKER_03: What?
[31:14] SPEAKER_00: Just a really cringy episode, and I can see why you think it has low ratings.
[31:20] SPEAKER_01: I don't think I don't know if it has low ratings.
[31:22] SPEAKER_01: I just think it sucks.
[31:23] SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's let's move on.
[31:25] SPEAKER_03: Let's move on.
[31:25] SPEAKER_01: Wait, wait, I want to talk more about it.
[31:28] SPEAKER_01: When they're like, oh, we have evidence, and James Wong is like, that's not how our court system works.
[31:33] SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh man, more parallels to our world.
[31:36] SPEAKER_00: Oh yes, it's it's called justice because it's just us.
[31:40] SPEAKER_00: I'm like, hmm, that seems familiar.
[31:42] SPEAKER_01: Cool, guys.
[31:43] SPEAKER_01: Okay, also the Rough Rhinos are based on Teddy Roosevelt's like cavalry brigade called the Rough Riders.
[31:52] SPEAKER_00: Oh.
[31:53] SPEAKER_01: I don't know if any of them were firebenders.
[31:55] SPEAKER_01: Or maybe they're earthbenders, and that's how Teddy got his face on the side of Mount Rushmore.
[31:59] SPEAKER_02: Wow.
[32:00] SPEAKER_01: But Aang gets to change Avatar Day.
[32:04] SPEAKER_01: So he gets to change uh another part of the world a little bit more.
[32:08] SPEAKER_03: It's true.
[32:08] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, they come and after he's gonna be dipped in boiling oil.
[32:14] SPEAKER_03: Hot oil boil.
[32:15] SPEAKER_03: Boiling oil.
[32:16] SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah.
[32:17] SPEAKER_03: And then they have a change of heart.
[32:19] SPEAKER_03: Like, hey.
[32:20] SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
[32:21] SPEAKER_01: Your your mission is now community service.
[32:23] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so that's good.
[32:24] SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
[32:25] SPEAKER_01: You were laughing when Aang shows up and like Kyoshi's makeup and stuff.
[32:29] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
[32:29] SPEAKER_00: It was.
[32:30] SPEAKER_00: But can we please just like for just a second, just relish in that one moment that really redeemed this episode, just a little bit for me anyway.
[32:37] SPEAKER_00: We've already talked about Foam Mouth Guy.
[32:39] SPEAKER_00: Avatar Kyoshi, when she shows up, I killed the general.
[32:43] SPEAKER_00: And then they go back into history and you see her earthbending.
[32:48] SPEAKER_01: That flashback is super cool.
[32:49] SPEAKER_00: Earthbending and firebending simultaneously.
[32:53] SPEAKER_00: I just to me that's spectacular to show what Aang is truly capable of.
[32:58] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe.
[32:58] SPEAKER_00: Where he's at now and where he can actually build towards.
[33:01] SPEAKER_01: Katie is no longer able to talk.
[33:03] SPEAKER_01: She is full of hiccups.
[33:04] SPEAKER_03: I am, but it's great what you're saying, Troy.
[33:08] SPEAKER_01: No, I think the fact that we get that flashback with Kiyoshi is is crazy because she is like literally moving continents.
[33:16] SPEAKER_01: That was wild.
[33:16] SPEAKER_00: What was it?
[33:17] SPEAKER_00: It was episode one of the season where um The Avatar State.
[33:22] SPEAKER_00: Yes.
[33:22] SPEAKER_00: And he says it's time for you to learn.
[33:25] SPEAKER_00: And he's going over, you know, all the elements and all the avatars manipulating all the elements to the extreme.
[33:30] SPEAKER_00: I'm like, to me, that was my favorite scene of this whole series thus far.
[33:34] SPEAKER_00: Is all the avatars bending every element to the most extreme levels.
[33:38] SPEAKER_00: And so when we saw Avatar Kyoshi, I'm pointing at the TV like I expect everybody to hear me and see me.
[33:46] SPEAKER_00: But um no, to me, that was just the greatest moment in this in this episode.
[33:50] SPEAKER_00: That was a real redeemer.
[33:51] SPEAKER_00: So thank you for letting me say that.
[33:54] SPEAKER_01: You're welcome for saying that.
[33:55] SPEAKER_01: You're allowed this the stick of talk.
[33:58] SPEAKER_03: Alright, I think everyone wants to be done talking about this episode.
[34:01] SPEAKER_01: One more! Okay, I really liked how they dispatched of the rough rhinos.
[34:04] SPEAKER_01: Like, it was pretty clever.
[34:06] SPEAKER_03: Back to the rough rhinos.
[34:07] SPEAKER_01: Back to the rough rhinos.
[34:08] SPEAKER_01: As they're laying siege to the town, our our little ragtag troop are like taking them out pretty cleverly.
[34:14] SPEAKER_01: Like, Sokka comes out in his little go-go gadget hat.
[34:17] SPEAKER_01: He's got his extendemonicle.
[34:19] SPEAKER_01: He like shines a light to the archer guy who shoots a fire arrow to bomb guy's satchel.
[34:25] SPEAKER_00: Totally inspector gadget move.
[34:26] SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
[34:27] SPEAKER_01: And then Katara shows up and she's like whipping the rhinos on the butt.
[34:30] SPEAKER_01: She does it like twice to like get him to move after she like causes shenanigans.
[34:34] SPEAKER_01: Like, she deflects ball chain guy.
[34:38] SPEAKER_01: She deflects his balls and they wrap around him, and then she slaps the rhino and they run away.
[34:44] SPEAKER_01: I don't know how far they go, the rhino just goes forever.
[34:46] SPEAKER_03: And Sokka gets his boomerang back.
[34:49] SPEAKER_00: Aw, he gets his identity.
[34:51] SPEAKER_00: Congratulations, Sokka.
[34:52] SPEAKER_00: Let's end it there.
[34:53] SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then they have to eat raw dough.
[34:56] SPEAKER_01: That was a gross way to end the episode.
[34:59] SPEAKER_01: I know.
[35:00] SPEAKER_01: I'm like.
[35:01] SPEAKER_01: Should we make some and tell everyone how they taste next episode?
[35:05] SPEAKER_01: That sounds gross.
[35:06] SPEAKER_01: So we tried the raw avatar day dough.
[35:08] SPEAKER_03: No, see, you've eaten raw dough.
[35:10] SPEAKER_03: That does not.
[35:11] SPEAKER_03: And I'm not talking about like cookie dough people.
[35:14] SPEAKER_03: It's like sometimes Jordan is eating, I don't like, or if I'm making bread.
[35:18] SPEAKER_01: Mmm, the little leftovers on the bowl, like after you take the dough out.
[35:22] SPEAKER_03: Isn't that sick?
[35:23] SPEAKER_03: But like not in a cool way.
[35:24] SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
[35:25] SPEAKER_00: I've done it.
[35:26] SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
[35:26] SPEAKER_00: We're alive.
[35:27] SPEAKER_00: What the happy Avatar Day, man.
[35:29] SPEAKER_00: Okay.
[35:29] SPEAKER_00: Hey, everybody's a fan.
[35:30] SPEAKER_00: Everybody loves cookie dough.
[35:32] SPEAKER_00: Everybody loves bread dough.
[35:33] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, everybody.
[35:34] SPEAKER_00: Everybody.
[35:35] SPEAKER_03: Everybody.
[35:36] SPEAKER_01: In this room.
[35:37] SPEAKER_01: So now we get to one of my favorite episodes.
[35:42] SPEAKER_03: You hear that?
[35:42] SPEAKER_03: One of his favorite episodes.
[35:44] SPEAKER_03: One of my favorite episodes.
[35:46] SPEAKER_00: Nine yips.
[35:47] SPEAKER_01: Troy.
[35:48] SPEAKER_03: Only nine?
[35:49] SPEAKER_03: Are you giving it ten?
[35:51] SPEAKER_01: I would give the blind bandit ten yips.
[35:54] SPEAKER_01: Yip, yip, yip, yip, yip, yep, yip, yep, yep, yip, yip.
[35:58] unknown: Yep, yep.
[35:59] SPEAKER_03: Yep.
[36:00] SPEAKER_03: Alright.
[36:00] SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm not going there.
[36:03] SPEAKER_01: I love the blind bandit.
[36:04] SPEAKER_01: I love this episode so much.
[36:07] SPEAKER_01: It's like Top completes that little group.
[36:10] SPEAKER_03: No, she's so great and so sassy and and so like inspirational.
[36:16] SPEAKER_01: Oh, definitely.
[36:17] SPEAKER_01: You know, and a great example of someone who you would traditionally people say, oh, she's like a disabled character, right?
[36:24] SPEAKER_01: Or she has a disability.
[36:25] SPEAKER_01: No friends.
[36:26] SPEAKER_01: She is differently abled.
[36:28] SPEAKER_01: And I would say differently abled makes her superior.
[36:32] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, it's a strength.
[36:33] SPEAKER_03: And um and it's really sad, I think, just that that relationship that she has with her family and her parents can't see her for what she is.
[36:46] SPEAKER_03: You know, they just see her for the label that they put on her and are obviously semi-ashamed, and that's why nobody knows that they have a daughter.
[36:56] SPEAKER_01: It's definitely one of those things of just judging a book by its cover and not looking at Toph and seeing what lies beneath or the strengths that she has outside of her physical body.
[37:07] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[37:08] SPEAKER_03: Troy, what'd you think?
[37:09] SPEAKER_01: Why do they call her the bandit?
[37:11] SPEAKER_01: It's just her name, the blind bandit.
[37:13] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's like her sweet wrestling name.
[37:16] SPEAKER_01: It's like the boulder or the hippo.
[37:18] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[37:18] SPEAKER_01: Well, she's a bandit.
[37:19] SPEAKER_01: She comes out of nowhere to take everyone's money and win everything, which I don't think she even needs the money.
[37:25] SPEAKER_00: No, this is one of those episodes where Katie, Jordan, and I were all laughing hysterically every three to five minutes.
[37:32] SPEAKER_01: At least that would be three to five seconds.
[37:35] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we would only have like like five laughs in the episode.
[37:39] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[37:40] SPEAKER_01: We were laughing pretty hysterically.
[37:42] SPEAKER_00: Her real superpower, and for animation, they did some good camera work with this one.
[37:48] SPEAKER_00: Just animation I've never seen before in a cartoon.
[37:51] SPEAKER_00: Where the viewers left hell uh hopeless and helpless for about a second, and then you see they zoom in on her mouth, and she gives a little side smirk.
[38:00] SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh, what she got going on now?
[38:03] SPEAKER_00: She just really lets it ride.
[38:05] SPEAKER_00: I don't know, in a way, like the blind bandit and the swamp feel like the same episode to me.
[38:11] SPEAKER_00: Just how the swamp, they were talking about how we're all connected and the blind bandit.
[38:14] SPEAKER_00: She's literally connected to the earth.
[38:17] SPEAKER_00: She can take the earth element and take it to the next level.
[38:21] SPEAKER_00: Like I feel like she could actually handle handle herself quite easily against the Avatar.
[38:28] SPEAKER_01: Well, but she didn't because she wasn't she wasn't used to someone like Aang.
[38:33] SPEAKER_01: And so that's like one of Toff's something that she'll have to work on is that she gets Aang, who's like light on his feet, he's an airbender.
[38:41] SPEAKER_01: She's used to fighting earthbenders, and so she's already prepared for this type of fight.
[38:46] SPEAKER_01: And then Aang shows up and is able to counteract her with the opposite element of Earth air, and is able to just like take her out pretty instantly because she wasn't prepared for it.
[38:55] SPEAKER_00: So this is the uh this is the earth bending teacher.
[38:58] SPEAKER_00: I am definitely expecting.
[39:00] SPEAKER_00: I got high hopes for that.
[39:02] SPEAKER_00: Her and Aang will definitely like be able to like fuse together and really earth bend extreme.
[39:08] SPEAKER_01: They'll move mountains.
[39:09] SPEAKER_03: Buckle up.
[39:10] SPEAKER_01: Hey.
[39:11] SPEAKER_01: So I love when Aang and the gang show up unannounced during dinner.
[39:16] SPEAKER_03: Are we going backwards?
[39:17] SPEAKER_03: Let's start at the beginning.
[39:18] SPEAKER_03: Hold on.
[39:19] SPEAKER_03: In the beginning of 1955.
[39:22] SPEAKER_03: We start out and Sokka's like debating whether or not he should get this bag.
[39:27] SPEAKER_03: It's oh funny.
[39:28] SPEAKER_03: Uh, and I could definitely relate to that.
[39:30] SPEAKER_03: Like, do I need it?
[39:31] SPEAKER_03: Do I need it?
[39:31] SPEAKER_03: I was like, you know, and Katara's like, no, you deserve it.
[39:34] SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, I do.
[39:34] SPEAKER_03: I was like, no, it's too expensive.
[39:36] SPEAKER_03: So then they leave, and then he comes back.
[39:38] SPEAKER_03: He's like, no, I think I'll get it.
[39:39] SPEAKER_03: Anyway, and then afterwards, like buyers or Morris is like, well, I don't think I should have gotten this bag.
[39:43] SPEAKER_01: Why'd you let me get this bag?
[39:45] SPEAKER_01: Throws it down.
[39:46] SPEAKER_01: Momo gets in.
[39:47] SPEAKER_03: Then later he's like, Oh, I'm so glad I got this bag.
[39:50] SPEAKER_03: So now I got this belt to put in there.
[39:52] SPEAKER_01: Got this belt to match my bag.
[39:53] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that running joke.
[39:55] SPEAKER_01: There's like five jokes with that bag, and they keep getting better, especially at the end, where Katara's like, You're the one whose belt matches his bag.
[40:03] SPEAKER_01: So funny.
[40:04] SPEAKER_01: So clever.
[40:04] SPEAKER_00: Trace not laughing.
[40:05] SPEAKER_00: The joke that led up to that when they drop into her yard, she goes, What are you doing here, twinkletoes?
[40:11] SPEAKER_00: And he's like, How'd you know it was me?
[40:12] SPEAKER_00: And then Saka goes, Hey, don't answer that.
[40:15] SPEAKER_00: That's not manly.
[40:15] SPEAKER_00: Twinkletoes is not manly.
[40:17] SPEAKER_00: And that's what leads Katara to say, You're the one where his bag matches his belt.
[40:22] SPEAKER_00: So good.
[40:23] SPEAKER_00: Oh, it was good.
[40:25] SPEAKER_01: So what do we think about Master You, who has basically a for-profit, terrible earthbending school?
[40:31] SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think it's unfortunate, but I think that that's probably based off real life.
[40:36] SPEAKER_01: You know, where it's like you have people that wanna You pay for a full year and I'll bump you up to the next belt.
[40:42] SPEAKER_03: Troy, what do you think?
[40:44] SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I know for a fact there's schools like that like that out there.
[40:47] SPEAKER_00: I've never been to one, but yeah, I know it was a pretty terrible school, pretty terrible instructor.
[40:53] SPEAKER_01: But then we get the two boys who are just punks that Katara is able to just take out.
[40:59] SPEAKER_01: I know, it's just kind of aggressive.
[41:00] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, it's great.
[41:02] SPEAKER_01: I like aggressive Katara.
[41:03] SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
[41:04] SPEAKER_03: Just like, eh, I'm watching the uh-huh.
[41:06] SPEAKER_01: But then you get the best Sokka moment in the entire series.
[41:10] unknown: What a tribe.
[41:12] SPEAKER_01: That was the best line.
[41:13] SPEAKER_01: That was the best line Sokka has.
[41:15] SPEAKER_01: Don't watch the rest of the series, just mute Sokka.
[41:18] SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
[41:19] SPEAKER_01: Jordan loves that.
[41:20] SPEAKER_01: Nothing as good as Wata Tribe.
[41:22] SPEAKER_00: I thought it was last season.
[41:24] SPEAKER_00: Yep.
[41:25] SPEAKER_01: Yep.
[41:25] SPEAKER_01: Nope.
[41:26] SPEAKER_01: It's all about that water tribe.
[41:27] SPEAKER_01: No, when you when we're Okay, so revisionist history.
[41:30] SPEAKER_01: We're talking about that yip-yip moment.
[41:32] SPEAKER_01: I knew Water Tribe was coming up.
[41:33] SPEAKER_01: I didn't care about those yips.
[41:35] SPEAKER_01: All I cared about was Wata Tribe.
[41:38] SPEAKER_03: Moving on.
[41:39] SPEAKER_03: Moving on.
[41:40] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[41:40] SPEAKER_03: Trash talking like wrestling match.
[41:43] SPEAKER_03: Uh definitely reminds me of like Lucha Libre or Have you seen Lucha Libre, Katie?
[41:48] SPEAKER_03: I have.
[41:49] SPEAKER_03: We saw it in Mexico and it got really intense.
[41:52] SPEAKER_03: Like where Saka, you know, is like yelling and it's like, do boo, blah, blah, blah.
[41:56] SPEAKER_03: And it's like you're just so you're like engaging with the crowd, and the crowd's like very much a part of it.
[42:03] SPEAKER_03: And and I think that that just even is with like WWE or something like that.
[42:07] SPEAKER_03: Like just any of those.
[42:09] SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's real, but it's also like a show.
[42:13] SPEAKER_01: So in yeah, we we saw Lucha Libre in Guadalajara, which we watched it for hours.
[42:18] SPEAKER_01: Like we were there for I don't know, like half a day watching this these matches.
[42:24] SPEAKER_01: And yeah, there'd be like these really colorful characters and be like these three on three matches.
[42:28] SPEAKER_01: They all have these like personalities, and you knew who the bad guys were.
[42:31] SPEAKER_01: But yeah, there was some very colorful language being thrown out in Spanish around that.
[42:36] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[42:36] SPEAKER_03: So I feel like we could relate with this earth-bending thing.
[42:41] SPEAKER_01: So, quick deviation.
[42:43] SPEAKER_01: So there's a big kind of pro-wrestling slant in this episode.
[42:48] SPEAKER_01: Uh, Michael Dante DiMachino, one of the co-creators, he wrote this episode.
[42:52] SPEAKER_01: He frickin' loves wrestling, like, loves it.
[42:56] SPEAKER_01: And so that was where a lot of that was coming from.
[42:58] SPEAKER_01: And the boulder is obviously ripped off of uh famous WWE legend Hulk Hogan.
[43:03] SPEAKER_01: That's supposed to be a joke, he guys supposed to react.
[43:05] SPEAKER_02: Wow.
[43:06] SPEAKER_01: No, The Rock, you guys! He's supposed to be The Rock.
[43:09] SPEAKER_01: He is?
[43:09] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he talks in third person.
[43:11] SPEAKER_01: That's what The Rock does.
[43:12] SPEAKER_03: He does?
[43:13] SPEAKER_01: Do you smell what The Rock is cooking?
[43:15] SPEAKER_03: No, I guess I've never seen him.
[43:16] SPEAKER_03: You've never seen The Rock?
[43:17] SPEAKER_03: Try?
[43:19] SPEAKER_00: You redeemed yourself there.
[43:20] SPEAKER_00: I thought I redeemed myself?
[43:22] SPEAKER_00: Like, what the hell?
[43:23] SPEAKER_00: You guys m model after Hulk Hogan?
[43:25] SPEAKER_00: No.
[43:26] SPEAKER_00: I was gonna believe.
[43:27] SPEAKER_00: I was like, I'm gonna be so disappointed with the writers like, you guys seriously modeled the boulder after the whole Hogan?
[43:33] SPEAKER_00: Like, you seriously talking.
[43:38] unknown: Brother.
[43:39] SPEAKER_01: Wow.
[43:40] SPEAKER_01: The boulder.
[43:41] SPEAKER_01: He's supposed to be based off of the rock.
[43:43] SPEAKER_01: And they tried to get Dwayne the Rock Johnson to voice that character.
[43:47] SPEAKER_01: Ah, and he wouldn't do it.
[43:48] SPEAKER_01: Didn't work out, but so the voice of the boulder is another WWE legend, uh, Mick Foley, who is Mankind.
[43:55] SPEAKER_01: So Mick Foley is the boulder.
[43:58] SPEAKER_03: That's why you like him.
[43:59] SPEAKER_03: I don't even know if.
[44:00] SPEAKER_01: So uh while you were gone and I was like writing my notes for this episode, I uh found out I didn't know that McFoley was the voice actor for The Boulder, and so I ended up watching some videos of there's like a fifth, like a 15-minute compilation of the best McFoley moments, and apparently McFoley had three characters.
[44:18] SPEAKER_01: He was Mankind, he was Dude Love, and then he was Cactus Jack.
[44:24] SPEAKER_01: So this guy had three characters, and like Cactus Jack was apparently from Truth and Consequences New Mexico.
[44:29] SPEAKER_01: He'd show up and always toss like a giant tin aluminum trash can.
[44:34] SPEAKER_01: Uh the whole thing was wild.
[44:36] SPEAKER_01: I it has been, I haven't seen pro wrestling in like 20 years.
[44:40] SPEAKER_01: It was crazy.
[44:41] SPEAKER_01: You watched it too.
[44:43] SPEAKER_01: Well, my dad was so into pro wrestling.
[44:47] SPEAKER_01: Wow.
[44:48] SPEAKER_01: Insane into pro wrestling.
[44:50] SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I remember like Mankind was like this really interesting, freaky character.
[44:54] SPEAKER_01: He had like a leather mask on his face and had like a little sock puppet he'd talk with.
[44:58] SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, it was like Mick Foley.
[45:00] SPEAKER_00: I the guy that I remember had a sock on his hand like all the time.
[45:04] SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
[45:04] SPEAKER_00: That that was his mankind character.
[45:07] SPEAKER_00: That was mankind.
[45:08] SPEAKER_00: Oh, that was such a weird name for that costume.
[45:11] SPEAKER_00: I'm like, come on now.
[45:13] SPEAKER_01: So in this like compilation of Mick Foley, Mick Foley like best moments thing, there's this one where he and The Rock were fighting in an empty wrestling arena, and they're like in a kitchen, like what the fairgrounds has, like this kind of like industrial kitchen that's empty.
[45:29] SPEAKER_01: And then he's like, he pushes the rock into like a cart of plates, and Dwayne Johnson like clearly just like shoves some plates on the ground and they shatter as he's like struggling on this cart in his underwear.
[45:41] SPEAKER_01: And then here comes Mick Foley with like the biggest bag of popcorn I've ever seen in my life.
[45:47] SPEAKER_01: Like, it is the size of like seven men.
[45:50] SPEAKER_01: Like he wags this bag of popcorn and smacks the rock in the face with the force of a teddy bear, smacking this giant bag of popcorn on the rock, and the popcorn's like flying everywhere.
[46:03] SPEAKER_01: It was so stupid.
[46:04] SPEAKER_03: Did he hurt the rock?
[46:06] SPEAKER_01: With popcorn, yeah, probably.
[46:08] SPEAKER_01: He has a he has a severe corn allergy.
[46:10] SPEAKER_03: How is he reacting?
[46:11] SPEAKER_03: He's just like, he's like, ugh.
[46:13] SPEAKER_01: You'd react as if like your friend came up with a huge bag of popcorn.
[46:16] SPEAKER_00: Do you smell what the rock is cooking?
[46:18] SPEAKER_00: Boom! Pop buttered popcorn.
[46:21] SPEAKER_00: Air popped.
[46:22] SPEAKER_00: And the rock just gets like, no, don't ever do that again.
[46:25] SPEAKER_00: Woo! Okay.
[46:26] SPEAKER_03: Okay, back to the blind bandit.
[46:28] SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, one more.
[46:29] SPEAKER_01: So with pro wrestling, they have things called heels, which is apparently like the bad guys in wrestling.
[46:37] SPEAKER_01: And so back during the Cold War, these heels were always Russians.
[46:45] SPEAKER_01: Like kind of obvious, like obliquely Russian.
[46:48] SPEAKER_01: And so Fire Nation man shows up in this episode during the fight.
[46:53] SPEAKER_01: Has a bit of a Russian accent.
[46:55] SPEAKER_01: And so I'm pretty sure Michael Dante DiMartino was trying to make a reference to those uh old Russian bad guys.
[47:03] SPEAKER_01: The Fire Lord, my flamberns for thee.
[47:08] SPEAKER_00: So kind of prejudice episode then.
[47:11] SPEAKER_01: It was the Russians, whatever.
[47:12] SPEAKER_01: Hear that, Vlad?
[47:14] SPEAKER_01: I don't fear you.
[47:15] SPEAKER_01: And if Prince Zuko's listening, stop stealing things.
[47:17] SPEAKER_01: It's not good.
[47:19] SPEAKER_03: Blind Bandit.
[47:20] SPEAKER_03: What's great about her is that like wait and listen.
[47:25] SPEAKER_03: I think that's a good lesson.
[47:27] SPEAKER_03: A good lesson.
[47:27] SPEAKER_03: A good lesson for me.
[47:28] SPEAKER_03: I should wait and listen before I strike.
[47:32] SPEAKER_01: And then I don't you can't see this, but Katie definitely like punched me under the armpit when she said that.
[47:37] SPEAKER_01: I was trying to be the bolder.
[47:39] SPEAKER_00: How the heck does Boomy know about the blind bandit?
[47:43] SPEAKER_01: I don't think he knew about her.
[47:46] SPEAKER_01: I think Boomy was just giving Aang some really practical advice.
[47:50] SPEAKER_01: Because I think there's like a lot of Earthbenders that are probably these kind of meatheads.
[47:54] SPEAKER_01: They're just gonna like, I'm just gonna like rough and tumble my way through this.
[47:57] SPEAKER_01: And Boomy knows that that's not the type of teacher that Aang needs.
[48:00] SPEAKER_01: And I think Boomy knew what type of person for Aang to look for.
[48:04] SPEAKER_00: Okay, gotcha.
[48:06] SPEAKER_03: Wait, oh my god, we totally forgot to talk about sorry, now we have to go back for like a second.
[48:11] SPEAKER_03: We didn't talk about the end of uh Avatar Day with uh Zuko basically breaking up with Iroh and being like, you know, Zuko's gotta go do some soul searching.
[48:22] SPEAKER_03: You're weighing me down, Uncle.
[48:24] SPEAKER_01: I thought it was a powerful moment to watch Zuko peace out.
[48:27] SPEAKER_01: Like this thing, the one thing that he knows is Uncle's safety at this point.
[48:32] SPEAKER_01: And so I think Zuko is just so full of like mixed emotions, he doesn't know what to do.
[48:37] SPEAKER_01: Like he I think he feels lost and trapped.
[48:39] SPEAKER_01: And Iroh has a really good moment talking about like when we're down in our luck and we're in our lowest moment, like you have to give yourself hope and something to look for.
[48:46] SPEAKER_01: So don't give in to despair.
[48:48] SPEAKER_01: This like low instinct.
[48:50] SPEAKER_01: And that's what Zuko's doing.
[48:51] SPEAKER_03: I think I just feel like he can't really hear himself think because he's just like has his dad and his uncle and just everyone what they want Zuko to be and what Zuko feels like he needs to be.
[49:02] SPEAKER_03: And yeah, so hopefully from here on out he does some soul search in.
[49:07] SPEAKER_03: Yes.
[49:08] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[49:09] SPEAKER_03: Moving on.
[49:10] SPEAKER_01: So do you think that this is a permanent breakup with Zuko and Iroh Troy?
[49:14] SPEAKER_00: No, they don't work well uh apart.
[49:17] SPEAKER_01: We haven't seen them work well apart.
[49:18] SPEAKER_01: Well, no, they do work well apart.
[49:19] SPEAKER_01: Do you remember the blue spirit?
[49:21] SPEAKER_00: That's not with Iro's help.
[49:23] SPEAKER_00: That's true.
[49:24] SPEAKER_00: No.
[49:24] SPEAKER_00: You can only go so far with the blue spirit.
[49:26] SPEAKER_00: They don't they still don't do very well apart.
[49:29] SPEAKER_00: They are totally yin and yang to one another.
[49:32] SPEAKER_00: I think Uncle Iroh is secretly what Zuko wishes he could be more like, and I think Zuko is secretly what Iroh wishes he could be more like, and they try to watch out for each other's backs, obviously.
[49:45] SPEAKER_01: Well, they they definitely balance each other out.
[49:48] SPEAKER_01: I don't think Iroh necessarily needs Zuko's balance, but Zuko needs Iroh's balance.
[49:54] SPEAKER_00: For sure.
[49:54] SPEAKER_01: I mean you put Iro loose in the world and he's just gonna make the world a better place.
[49:58] SPEAKER_01: Right now he's trying to make Zuko better, too so Zuko can help make the world a better place.
[50:02] SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's definitely uh it's a bittersweet moment.
[50:04] SPEAKER_01: Like Iroh again, Iroh knows the correct answer is for Zuko not to strike out on his own, but then isn't going to stop him and he's going to support him in these actions.
[50:13] SPEAKER_01: Which is great for Iro.
[50:15] SPEAKER_03: Okay, back to the Blind Bandit.
[50:17] SPEAKER_01: It's such a good episode.
[50:19] SPEAKER_01: Actually, Nickelodeon, they had some poll of like the hundred greatest moments in Nickelodeon history or Nicktoon's history, and the Blind Bandit ranked number twelve.
[50:28] SPEAKER_03: Dang.
[50:28] SPEAKER_01: I don't know anything about this poll, but Blind Bandit was number 12.
[50:32] SPEAKER_03: Okay, Troy, were you surprised?
[50:34] SPEAKER_03: So you see this.
[50:36] SPEAKER_03: Well, you were like, oh, yeah, during it you said, oh, is she really blind?
[50:40] SPEAKER_03: No, I did not say that.
[50:41] SPEAKER_03: You didn't?
[50:42] SPEAKER_01: No, that's what Guitar says.
[50:43] SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
[50:43] SPEAKER_03: I thought you said.
[50:44] SPEAKER_01: No, Troy went, oh, okay, when we reveal that Toph is like the small, the small girl.
[50:51] SPEAKER_00: No, I didn't say she really blind.
[50:53] SPEAKER_00: I guess you sound like Guitareman.
[50:56] SPEAKER_00: Or Ing said that.
[50:57] SPEAKER_00: One of them said that, but it wasn't me though.
[50:59] SPEAKER_00: No, Guitar's like, she can't actually be blind, can she?
[51:01] SPEAKER_00: And Ing's like, uh, yeah.
[51:03] SPEAKER_00: That's almost as bad as the bread story.
[51:06] SPEAKER_00: The bread?
[51:08] SPEAKER_00: So growing up, I was I literally one slice of bread in the in the bag in case somebody else wanted it.
[51:15] SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, you thought you were that.
[51:17] SPEAKER_00: Majority of the time, and one day, come out to the living room, and mom's like, Troy, did you eat most of the bread?
[51:23] SPEAKER_00: Or did you eat did you eat the rest of the bread?
[51:26] SPEAKER_00: And I was like, What?
[51:27] SPEAKER_00: No, I didn't.
[51:28] SPEAKER_00: And dad's like, come on, Troy, fess up.
[51:32] SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I didn't, I swear.
[51:34] SPEAKER_00: I swear they were just about to ground me.
[51:36] SPEAKER_00: And then Katie comes out of her bedroom with bread in her mouth.
[51:40] SPEAKER_00: And then Katie goes, Oh, it was me.
[51:42] SPEAKER_00: And mom and daddy were like, oh, okay, we're all good.
[51:47] SPEAKER_01: She waited and she then she striked.
[51:50] SPEAKER_01: That's right.
[51:50] SPEAKER_00: She waited like a little blind bandit.
[51:53] SPEAKER_03: Uh, okay, so anyway.
[51:54] SPEAKER_00: So no, I I was actually intrigued.
[51:56] SPEAKER_00: I was like, it was like it was like, of course they're gonna make the ultimate earthbender a blind little girl.
[52:03] SPEAKER_00: Like, what better way to show like it ain't about how much muscle you have, it's all about technique, and she has beyond excellent technique.
[52:11] SPEAKER_01: So breaking down Toph, uh, she was originally envisioned as a teenage boy.
[52:16] SPEAKER_01: Like, Mike and Brian wanted this 16-year-old brash, tough teenage boy named Sud or Sud or something, S U D.
[52:23] SPEAKER_01: And then Erin has, like, one of the the head writer on the series who uh lobbied for UA to have white hair, was like, guys, you have to make this character a girl.
[52:33] SPEAKER_01: And Mike and Brian were like, uh nice, you guys.
[52:38] SPEAKER_01: I know.
[52:38] SPEAKER_03: Well, we can talk about some of their decisions anyway.
[52:41] SPEAKER_01: But then they were very uh they they warmed the idea, and then they realized they could bring on Jesse Flower to voice Toph, who voiced Mang in The Fortune Teller, which Troy kind of skipped through, the girl with the like crazy hair that called Katara Floozy.
[52:55] SPEAKER_01: And so they really wanted to work with her more.
[52:56] SPEAKER_01: And so by making this uh blind girl, they were able to bring Jesse Flower back on.
[53:01] SPEAKER_01: And so she was able to voice Toph and then imbue her with all this sass and toughness, and she does a really great job.
[53:09] SPEAKER_01: And so when they were developing Toph's fighting style, her martial arts style she'd use, they asked Sifu Kisu, the consultant on the show, if he had any recommendations.
[53:19] SPEAKER_01: So he got in touch with one of his friends, Sifu Manuel Rodriguez, I think is what his name was, and he recommended the uh the rare Southern Mantis style, which is called Chugar versus Hungar from the what the Earthbenders usually do.
[53:35] SPEAKER_01: And then as legend goes, the person who ended up creating the legend on the how this style was uh come into the world was it was created by a blind woman.
[53:46] SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
[53:47] SPEAKER_01: So pretty interesting that that's how that works out.
[53:50] SPEAKER_01: Definitely.
[53:51] SPEAKER_03: That is interesting.
[53:51] SPEAKER_01: I mean, could you pick up that Toph was like working on like doing like a different style of martial art?
[53:57] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was I I think that's probably where where I said, oh, okay.
[54:01] SPEAKER_01: Well she kind of has like has her hands up when she's like fighting at the beginning, which I thought was kind of interesting.
[54:06] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[54:07] SPEAKER_03: So Troy, what did you think about you know, like after Aang tries to talk to her and then he throws her off the stage and then she kind of storms off, like I'm out of here, and he tries to follow her and she kind of disappears, and then they find her.
[54:22] SPEAKER_01: Oh, they sneak into the Beifong estate.
[54:24] SPEAKER_03: Right.
[54:25] SPEAKER_03: I mean, how is that for you to find out what her her normal life is like?
[54:30] SPEAKER_00: I'm not surprised.
[54:31] SPEAKER_03: That she wasn't just this like rough and tumble chick all the time, just like her alter ego.
[54:36] SPEAKER_00: But for instance, there's no way a little girl like that's gonna get mixed up with the WWE guys of the Avatar world.
[54:44] SPEAKER_00: But she does.
[54:45] SPEAKER_00: And she does get involved, but it's like, since it was such a show, I was just like, and then she storms out.
[54:53] SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't know, just her at her rich parents' estate.
[54:58] SPEAKER_00: I don't know why that didn't like surprise me at all.
[55:01] SPEAKER_03: What about just like her family?
[55:03] SPEAKER_03: Did you think like her parents were gonna come around and be like, yeah, go free.
[55:07] SPEAKER_01: Bye, Troy.
[55:08] SPEAKER_03: Well, Troy had to leave.
[55:10] SPEAKER_03: Just peaced out.
[55:11] SPEAKER_03: So it's just us.
[55:12] SPEAKER_03: Aww, that's kinda nice.
[55:14] SPEAKER_03: It is kind of nice.
[55:15] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I was definitely really bummed out by the way Toff's dad treats her.
[55:24] SPEAKER_03: I think it's when you care about somebody and you want to protect them that you have their best interest at heart, but just sometimes it gets lost in kind of toxic behavior.
[55:35] SPEAKER_03: And yeah, it's just really unfortunate that they can't really support her in the way that she needs.
[55:41] SPEAKER_03: And and they feel like they're supporting her in the way that she needs.
[55:44] SPEAKER_01: Would you argue that he was blind to her needs?
[55:47] SPEAKER_03: I would argue that.
[55:48] SPEAKER_03: And I know, and I kind of don't remember how this works out.
[55:52] SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, because uh she takes off, and then you get this last bit that uh he thinks that Aang has kidnapped his daughter, and so he pays the two dudes, Jinfu and Master Yu, to go after them.
[56:09] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[56:10] SPEAKER_03: Uh-uh.
[56:10] SPEAKER_03: So we'll see.
[56:13] SPEAKER_03: I kind of feel like it's a happy ending.
[56:16] SPEAKER_03: I feel like they they come around.
[56:18] SPEAKER_03: But yeah, I feel like mom doesn't have any opinion.
[56:20] SPEAKER_01: Ah, Mom seems pretty blank the whole time.
[56:23] SPEAKER_01: You know?
[56:24] SPEAKER_01: Like even after Aang like sneezes all their food on them, mom's like, shall we go have dessert in the living room?
[56:29] SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
[56:29] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know about the the Beifongs, so they're kinda off.
[56:33] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know.
[56:34] SPEAKER_01: That's all good.
[56:35] SPEAKER_01: Apparently they are quote unquote the wealthiest people in the Southern Earth Kingdom, for what that's worth.
[56:40] SPEAKER_03: It's not worth much.
[56:41] SPEAKER_01: No, it's not.
[56:43] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, and I feel like that's another whole other like status, because that's like a yeah, this rich, wealthy family, they're like, oh, like, do you like anticipate on the war being over soon?
[56:53] SPEAKER_03: Like that they're just kind of unaffected.
[56:55] SPEAKER_01: Definitely like detached from the greater challenges in the world.
[57:00] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, which I think could probably be applied to.
[57:03] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[57:03] SPEAKER_01: You're kind of removed from it.
[57:04] SPEAKER_01: So you don't really you don't really care.
[57:06] SPEAKER_01: It's more like just a a dinner talking point.
[57:08] SPEAKER_01: That's pretty special.
[57:10] SPEAKER_01: So we have a new friend in the group.
[57:11] SPEAKER_01: We have Toph, who is presumably going to uh stay with our friends through Aang's uh teachings of earth bending, and she is so fantastic in this episode.
[57:22] SPEAKER_01: She I remember finding out about Toph's character.
[57:26] SPEAKER_01: Like I watched a random episode after she joined, and I was like, whoa, like I I had lost track of what was happening, and all of a sudden, like there's this this new character was there, and she was so intriguing, she's so interesting.
[57:38] SPEAKER_01: Like the fact that she's able to see with vibration and how uh she's able to keep all three of those friends in check.
[57:46] SPEAKER_01: She checks Aang, she checks Katara, she checks Sokka, she doesn't care.
[57:49] SPEAKER_01: She's just a really uh interesting foil to all those characters, and so yeah, she uh I think is part of the reason I really started to watch it even more was Toph being introduced.
[58:00] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's great when it pushes your your limits, or like when you have your I was gonna say like mental limitations, or it's like, oh, things are black and white.
[58:08] SPEAKER_03: It's like uh, you know, this is how I see this one person and this is what they're capable of doing, and she pushes the limits in in so many ways.
[58:17] SPEAKER_03: And I'd also say um that her kind of like no nonsense attitude has to do because she hasn't hit puberty.
[58:26] SPEAKER_03: You know, where it's like She's invincible, as opposed to Katara, where I mean she has like hormones and like Aang and Saka.
[58:34] SPEAKER_03: I mean, like that all comes into play, you know, whereas Top Top's just still gets to be a kid.
[58:39] SPEAKER_03: Right.
[58:40] SPEAKER_03: And it's like things are kind of black and white for her.
[58:42] SPEAKER_03: It's like this is like, hey, what are you doing?
[58:44] SPEAKER_03: You're being an idiot, blah, or whatever's happening.
[58:47] SPEAKER_03: So anyway, yeah, Toph.
[58:50] SPEAKER_03: Welcome to the team.
[58:51] SPEAKER_01: Aww.
[58:52] SPEAKER_01: Well, I think that does it for this episode.
[58:54] SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm excited for the rest of the series, how this shapes out.
[58:57] SPEAKER_01: I'm really excited for Toph and her one-liners and to keep calling Aang Twinkle Toes.
[59:02] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I'm excited to continue because for some reason I can't remember what happens next.
[59:07] SPEAKER_01: So something good.
[59:09] SPEAKER_01: It's always something good.
[59:10] SPEAKER_03: It is.
[59:11] SPEAKER_03: It's really getting good.
[59:12] SPEAKER_03: Hopefully you're enjoying it.
[59:14] SPEAKER_01: All right, little buddies.
[59:15] SPEAKER_01: Until next time.
[59:16] SPEAKER_01: Yep, yep.
[59:17] SPEAKER_04: Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
[59:20] SPEAKER_04: Yep, yep.
[59:23] SPEAKER_04: Oh, the foam!
[59:24] SPEAKER_03: The foam!
[59:33] SPEAKER_00: Testing, tofting, testing and tofting.
[59:38] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what did you say?
[59:39] SPEAKER_03: You're like taff?
[59:40] SPEAKER_03: I don't know what she said.
[59:41] SPEAKER_00: Oh, whatever.
[59:42] SPEAKER_01: You called her toft.
[59:44] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[59:44] SPEAKER_03: And I was wrong.
[59:46] SPEAKER_03: It's tough.
[59:48] SPEAKER_00: What did I what did I say?
[59:49] SPEAKER_01: Like toe or something.
[59:52] SPEAKER_01: Like toe for grace.
[59:53] SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's what I was thinking of toe for grace.
[59:55] SPEAKER_00: No, but it's tough.
[59:56] SPEAKER_00: But why did I just call her tough?
