[0:08] Speaker 1: And I invited you.
[0:10] Speaker 2: Here, thought I made myself perfectly clear. When you're a
[0:17] Speaker 2: guest to my home, you gotta come to me empty.
[0:23] Speaker 2: And I said, no, guests, your presences presence enough. And
[0:31] Speaker 2: I already had too much stuff.
[0:35] Speaker 3: So how do you.
[0:36] Speaker 2: Dare to surbey me?
[0:48] Speaker 3: Welcome to I said, no gifts. I'm Brigard Wineger. We're
[0:54] Speaker 3: in the backyard. I'm having the time of my life.
[0:57] Speaker 3: I'm already having the time of my life. I hope
[1:00] Speaker 3: you are too. You're scrubbing out the inside of the microwave,
[1:05] Speaker 3: you're tiling the roof. I don't know what you're doing.
[1:08] Speaker 3: That's none of my business. You know, you get to
[1:11] Speaker 3: peek in at me. I don't get anything from you.
[1:14] Speaker 3: And so we're just gonna move into the podcast before
[1:17] Speaker 3: I get upset. I love today's guest. He's just terrific.
[1:21] Speaker 3: Oh it's Liam garow Ah Bridger Babes.
[1:25] Speaker 1: I don't even wait a minute. We have to say
[1:28] Speaker 1: the moment that has led us here. Some have said
[1:31] Speaker 1: this is history, but more importantly, some have also said,
[1:33] Speaker 1: this is her story.
[1:34] Speaker 3: It's I mean, first of all, her story, it's first
[1:37] Speaker 3: of all her history. First.
[1:38] Speaker 1: Yes, Oh my god, it is a delight to be here.
[1:41] Speaker 1: It's so nice to see you. I should say, also
[1:42] Speaker 1: like in the flesh and having you you've never read
[1:44] Speaker 1: in person. Well, you are no longer a person that
[1:46] Speaker 1: just lives on my phone. This is fantastic now a.
[1:48] Speaker 3: Full realized three D human being.
[1:51] Speaker 1: And I'm gonna say something and I'm sorry, and I'm
[1:53] Speaker 1: trying to be this way about people when you're like, oh,
[1:55] Speaker 1: you see someone in person and then you give like
[1:56] Speaker 1: a comment about how they read versus how they you know,
[1:59] Speaker 1: in person versus online, you have the most piercing blue eyes,
[2:03] Speaker 1: and I don't think that reads enough on camera. And
[2:05] Speaker 1: I'll just say that and like, like to be honest,
[2:07] Speaker 1: like when I saw you, I was like.
[2:08] Speaker 3: I was struck by that you were frightened.
[2:10] Speaker 1: I was ill. I almost did one eighty out of here,
[2:14] Speaker 1: and I said, I don't care that I was in
[2:15] Speaker 1: a nightmare, uber right of my life. I'm away over.
[2:17] Speaker 1: I'll get back in that car with Michael. I said, Michael,
[2:21] Speaker 1: we're doing a loop. We're doing a loop. We're doing
[2:23] Speaker 1: a one eighty pivot and we're going back to Hollywood Hotel.
[2:25] Speaker 1: And I know that we're in the time machine. So
[2:27] Speaker 1: room three O eight. I don't care who knows. I
[2:29] Speaker 1: don't care who knows, Just try and kill.
[2:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, you are in town, you're visiting I am, indeed
[2:35] Speaker 3: Hollywood Hotel. What is the situation happening there?
[2:39] Speaker 1: It sounds so it sounds simultaneously fancy and like maybe
[2:44] Speaker 1: you would die there. Let me explain. So, first of all,
[2:46] Speaker 1: when you walk into my room, is there a smell
[2:47] Speaker 1: of a wet towel? Of course was it there the
[2:49] Speaker 1: moment I arrived? Absolutely, there was just a wet towel there. Oh,
[2:53] Speaker 1: here's the thing that would have made sense. There just
[2:56] Speaker 1: was the smell. And so I do have a slight
[2:58] Speaker 1: concern of like, am I inhaling black mold? Am I
[3:01] Speaker 1: sleeping poison? Am I gonna die? And I mean, here's
[3:04] Speaker 1: the thing. If it's my time, it's my time. But
[3:06] Speaker 1: I've stayed at this hotel before and it's always been,
[3:09] Speaker 1: I have to say, a lovely experience. The rooms are
[3:12] Speaker 1: always very clean. Previously to this, I've never encountered a smell.
[3:16] Speaker 1: And also I'm gonna say this to you, bang for
[3:18] Speaker 1: your buck, great location. I'm not even sponsored by them,
[3:21] Speaker 1: I have to tell you, But I and I's also.
[3:22] Speaker 3: If you're gonna get a free night or something for
[3:24] Speaker 3: the complaining and promoting, and I'll take it for either.
[3:27] Speaker 1: Honestly, I would like I would like a free night
[3:29] Speaker 1: for both the complaint and the promotion.
[3:31] Speaker 3: I want to.
[3:31] Speaker 1: I want to. I want to, I want to. So Yeah,
[3:34] Speaker 1: I'm in town love LA. It's one of those cities
[3:37] Speaker 1: I have to say where every time I'm here, I'm like, ugh.
[3:40] Speaker 1: The thing about La is that it's like it's almost
[3:42] Speaker 1: a city that works. Does that make sense? You were
[3:44] Speaker 1: like it almost almost for all of its advancements. You're like, oh,
[3:50] Speaker 1: La has so much but still disgusting drinking water, you
[3:53] Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like, well, I'm sorry, I'm just
[3:56] Speaker 1: like you know, and even like I I was joking
[4:00] Speaker 1: before we hopped on the mic, but you know, I
[4:01] Speaker 1: was in this uber ride over and I have to say,
[4:03] Speaker 1: from where I'm staying to your place, it should have
[4:05] Speaker 1: only been a twenty five minute ride. But Michael behind
[4:08] Speaker 1: the wheel, let me tell you something, he was living
[4:10] Speaker 1: and let god, and his version of that is driving
[4:12] Speaker 1: under the speed limit and turning a twenty five minute
[4:14] Speaker 1: ride into a forty minute one.
[4:15] Speaker 3: And here we are driving under the speed on the freeway. Oh,
[4:19] Speaker 3: it's so dangerous.
[4:20] Speaker 1: I didn't feel good about it. And then he had
[4:22] Speaker 1: the audacity when someone was like at an intersection to turn,
[4:25] Speaker 1: they were like taking just a bit too long to turn,
[4:28] Speaker 1: and he goes ugh, And I'm like, Michael, you have
[4:30] Speaker 1: not earned this. You've not earned this. You think you're
[4:34] Speaker 1: the good driver, but Michael Ziva, you are not. And
[4:36] Speaker 1: that's not okay.
[4:37] Speaker 3: Oh. I feel like the key to uber driving is
[4:41] Speaker 3: getting there as quickly as possible.
[4:42] Speaker 1: I mean, call me crazy, well, and I am about
[4:45] Speaker 1: to so get ready. But like I also, my like
[4:49] Speaker 1: vision of any be it a cab and or uber
[4:52] Speaker 1: and or a lift situation is I think I have
[4:55] Speaker 1: the kind of standard where I think every like trip
[4:57] Speaker 1: in the backseat of a car is going to be
[4:59] Speaker 1: like a scene from an eighties movie. We're like, no, no, no.
[5:03] Speaker 1: The cab driver uber driver they know this city like
[5:05] Speaker 1: the back of their hand, and they know all the
[5:06] Speaker 1: places to get to, you know, take you to where
[5:08] Speaker 1: you need to be. And then you get in there
[5:10] Speaker 1: and they're like, hey, so I actually live like an
[5:13] Speaker 1: hour outside of town. I seldom drive in La.
[5:16] Speaker 3: So people are driving in from riverside.
[5:18] Speaker 1: They're like, your guess is as good as mine. We
[5:19] Speaker 1: are just going to listen to ways. And you're like,
[5:21] Speaker 1: I love that. And of course, because I'm not from here,
[5:23] Speaker 1: I can't be like takes Visita, like I have no.
[5:27] Speaker 3: Your prisoner back though, you're just doing whatever they want.
[5:29] Speaker 1: And that is kind of how I felt. Because also
[5:31] Speaker 1: his passenger seat was lodged way back close to me.
[5:35] Speaker 3: And oh, so you were in the past. Oh, I
[5:36] Speaker 3: guess you could. I mean, I'm sitting behind the drive.
[5:38] Speaker 1: No, you don't know. Yeah, I'm sitting I'm sitting in
[5:41] Speaker 1: the back seat, kitty corner.
[5:43] Speaker 3: Right. You have to do if you're alone in an uber,
[5:45] Speaker 3: You're not going to sit directly behind the driver, No,
[5:48] Speaker 3: unless you're giving them a massage or something or.
[5:50] Speaker 1: Going to strangle them with a tie. Yeah, exactly, And
[5:52] Speaker 1: both can happen. By the way, the Hollywood Hotel, and
[5:55] Speaker 1: that's another thing I want to plug about that place.
[5:57] Speaker 3: You could be killed at any point, and.
[5:59] Speaker 1: I think that's kind of like the fun vibe about
[6:02] Speaker 1: LA in general is when you step outside, you know
[6:04] Speaker 1: for sure you smell dog poop and you could die
[6:06] Speaker 1: at any moment. And that's another thing about La too,
[6:09] Speaker 1: where it's almost a city that works. When you see
[6:11] Speaker 1: excrement on the ground, I'm also gonna say something else.
[6:13] Speaker 1: Eight out of ten times, you know it's a humans.
[6:17] Speaker 3: Look, I'm gonna defend La for a moment.
[6:19] Speaker 2: Say it.
[6:20] Speaker 3: I've seen human excrement on the subway in New York.
[6:23] Speaker 1: Well, New York is no city to compare it to.
[6:25] Speaker 3: I mean, we're talking about functioning cities.
[6:28] Speaker 1: I mean, this is true. And also I mean, listen,
[6:30] Speaker 1: I come from Vancouver, Canada, which is like, it's kind
[6:35] Speaker 1: of not fair because it is an it's an unusually
[6:38] Speaker 1: clean city. And as someone who's like lived in dirty cities,
[6:40] Speaker 1: I spent ten years in Toronto, which, by the way,
[6:42] Speaker 1: famously they used to call the Big Smoke. Let that
[6:45] Speaker 1: be an indication as to how clean that city used
[6:46] Speaker 1: to be.
[6:46] Speaker 3: Big Smoke, Yes, because of the smog.
[6:49] Speaker 1: Correct.
[6:50] Speaker 3: Wow, yeah, not a great name.
[6:52] Speaker 1: Not a great name.
[6:53] Speaker 3: Nobody loves that city.
[6:55] Speaker 1: Well, I mean I had a good time while I
[6:57] Speaker 1: was there. See now I get all defensive about it,
[6:58] Speaker 1: but so I mean, so listen, I've lived in my
[7:01] Speaker 1: fair share of city of dirty cities. And actually the
[7:03] Speaker 1: reason I knew I had to move is because I
[7:04] Speaker 1: was one time walking down the stairwell into the Ousington
[7:08] Speaker 1: subway station and there was and listen, I say that
[7:10] Speaker 1: this is value neutral. I don't say this to indict
[7:12] Speaker 1: this man, obviously someone struggling with mental health problems, but
[7:16] Speaker 1: was standing astride an emptied grocery bag openly defecating.
[7:21] Speaker 3: Okay, right, And I said, well it's time for me
[7:23] Speaker 3: to go. That's a good sign.
[7:25] Speaker 1: And I left. The next morning, I said, I'm packing
[7:28] Speaker 1: up my life. I said, I can't do this.
[7:30] Speaker 3: Wait, so you're currently living in Vancouver.
[7:32] Speaker 1: I am, yeah, I'm a pandemic move. I moved in
[7:34] Speaker 1: like August twenty twenty.
[7:36] Speaker 3: Why I know, where are you from? Originally in Canada, so.
[7:39] Speaker 1: I am like pretty much Ontario base. I was born
[7:42] Speaker 1: in my nation's capital, Ottawa, cult for Plaza, and then
[7:48] Speaker 1: spent the entirety of my twenties in Toronto, spent my
[7:51] Speaker 1: teen years living out east on the East Coast, and
[7:53] Speaker 1: now I've been in Vancouver for the last three years.
[7:55] Speaker 3: Wow, do you think you're going to settle in Vancouver?
[7:58] Speaker 1: So I've had people ask me that, and I have.
[8:00] Speaker 1: My feeling about Vancouver is that it is the right
[8:03] Speaker 1: city for me right now.
[8:04] Speaker 3: Oh that's a nice way of looking at things. Yeah,
[8:06] Speaker 3: I just get to a city and I'm like, I
[8:08] Speaker 3: guess i'll die here. Yeah, I don't think beyond dying.
[8:11] Speaker 1: That's so funny you say that, though, because I thought
[8:13] Speaker 1: that's what was gonna happen to me in Toronto. Oh,
[8:15] Speaker 1: I was like, I moved there to die in Toronto. Well,
[8:17] Speaker 1: I was nineteen, and I was like, oh, well, I
[8:19] Speaker 1: guess this is just where I live now for the
[8:20] Speaker 1: rest of my life. And I like, I had no
[8:23] Speaker 1: sense of my life going anywhere beyond that, right, And
[8:26] Speaker 1: so I think also being in my twenties in Toronto
[8:30] Speaker 1: was the right move, and I think being thirties in
[8:32] Speaker 1: Vancouver feels right. Also, it's a little more low key
[8:36] Speaker 1: of a city.
[8:37] Speaker 3: I've never been to Canada. I don't even know where
[8:39] Speaker 3: to start. What, let's name the top five Canadian cities. Okay,
[8:44] Speaker 3: I want I'm going to get you in trouble with Canadians.
[8:46] Speaker 1: I listen, there's nothing they can do to me. I'm
[8:49] Speaker 1: internationally beloved. Just kidding, I Okay, I would say number one.
[8:54] Speaker 1: I mean, it's gonna seem bias because I'm there currently
[8:55] Speaker 1: but number one, I'll say Vancouver. Okay. Number two I'm
[8:59] Speaker 1: going to say and this is a pivot, so ladies,
[9:01] Speaker 1: get ready, I'm gonna say Montreal. Here's the thing.
[9:04] Speaker 3: Well, I have a friend from Montreal.
[9:05] Speaker 1: And have and wait, I was gonna ask if you've been,
[9:07] Speaker 1: but you've never been to Canada. So Montreal is sort
[9:09] Speaker 1: of like Canada's Europe, right of course, and it's very
[9:14] Speaker 1: like it's like you kind of step in there and
[9:16] Speaker 1: you're like, oh, this feels like a like a like
[9:18] Speaker 1: a country onto itself, Like it feels there's something very
[9:22] Speaker 1: I was gonna say provincial, but I guess that's kind
[9:24] Speaker 1: of obvious, but like there's something like there's something that
[9:26] Speaker 1: like there is Montreal art, there's Montreal culture, there's Montreal.
[9:29] Speaker 3: Food, there is right smoking, all the things.
[9:34] Speaker 1: And so I would say Montreal, and then I would
[9:36] Speaker 1: say Toronto, and then I would say Halifax. Here's the
[9:40] Speaker 1: thing about Halifax. You go for forty eight hours because
[9:43] Speaker 1: everything that's worth doing, and Halifax isn't gonna take any longer.
[9:46] Speaker 3: I can't even picture Halifax. What's the scene in Halifax.
[9:49] Speaker 1: It's very like it looks it's very well, it's a
[9:54] Speaker 1: Seaside town. Obviously it's like close to the water, but
[9:56] Speaker 1: there's it's different than Vancouver. It's much older. So there's
[10:00] Speaker 1: something very like arts and crafts about oh this calife.
[10:03] Speaker 1: Like when you go, you're kind of like everything just
[10:05] Speaker 1: has like I don't know how to always describe it,
[10:08] Speaker 1: except for everything is just like painted wood. Like it's
[10:11] Speaker 1: everything's like really bright and kind of like, uh, it
[10:15] Speaker 1: feels almost like you've stepped into like a like a
[10:19] Speaker 1: illustration from a children's novel.
[10:21] Speaker 3: It's a forced charm that is out there.
[10:24] Speaker 1: That is exactly right where it's like cottage core, but
[10:27] Speaker 1: with even less money, if that makes sense.
[10:29] Speaker 3: Now you're getting in trouble Agains.
[10:30] Speaker 1: I don't and I don't care who knows it?
[10:32] Speaker 3: Prince Edward Island. Have you ever been there? No home
[10:36] Speaker 3: e Van of green Gables, I'm familiar. How have you
[10:39] Speaker 3: not gone there? Well?
[10:40] Speaker 1: You know, how have you not gone to Canada? Period?
[10:43] Speaker 3: I have no I have no business there.
[10:45] Speaker 1: Well, I have to say, that's also shocking to me
[10:46] Speaker 1: that you would have never gone. First of all, let's
[10:48] Speaker 1: throw in just as a number five city, let's say Summerside,
[10:51] Speaker 1: Prince Edward Island. Why not let me. But it's also
[10:54] Speaker 1: incredible to me that you've never been to Canada, if
[10:56] Speaker 1: not only to like perform, to do stand up, to.
[10:58] Speaker 3: Do nothing, nothing has ever drawn me there. I want
[11:01] Speaker 3: to go. I'm not actively avoiding.
[11:03] Speaker 1: Can I say something too about you? In Canada? You
[11:06] Speaker 1: would thrive they because they would eat you up there,
[11:09] Speaker 1: because you have what I can only describe as having
[11:11] Speaker 1: old time gentlemanly manners.
[11:13] Speaker 3: Oh incredible, wonderful and appreciate it.
[11:15] Speaker 1: Like and Canadians do sort of like we really we
[11:18] Speaker 1: hinge so much of our cultural identity on being polite people.
[11:21] Speaker 1: And because you are like sort of I don't know,
[11:25] Speaker 1: like there's something very like early nineteen hundreds about you.
[11:28] Speaker 3: I don't know what where that vibe is coming from.
[11:33] Speaker 3: That can't possibly be true.
[11:34] Speaker 1: It's your cadence. You sound like you. You sound like
[11:37] Speaker 1: you could be related to Jimmy Stewart. That's just true.
[11:39] Speaker 3: I don't understand people. I get this pretty frequently, and
[11:42] Speaker 3: I need some sort of person who studies this type
[11:46] Speaker 3: of thing to pinpoint this for me.
[11:48] Speaker 1: Where are you from again?
[11:49] Speaker 3: Utah?
[11:51] Speaker 1: I'm trying to think does Utah is Utah known as
[11:53] Speaker 1: having any kind of regional dialog. No, it's very flat,
[11:55] Speaker 1: right and actually, and your accent of anything or you know, yeah,
[11:59] Speaker 1: I guess oppose your accent sort of belies that because
[12:01] Speaker 1: you have a real kind of like sprightly animated.
[12:04] Speaker 3: Wave speaking fascinating. Okay, Canadians are very polite. I feel
[12:08] Speaker 3: like I would feel like a slob there.
[12:11] Speaker 1: Disagree?
[12:12] Speaker 3: Do you think I would just be able to blend in.
[12:15] Speaker 1: Can I I would go as far as to say,
[12:16] Speaker 1: as people would assume if they didn't know who you were,
[12:19] Speaker 1: would assume you just were from there.
[12:21] Speaker 3: Maybe it's time to go.
[12:22] Speaker 1: I honestly, I would really I would look into trying
[12:26] Speaker 1: to perform there, just so you can get like a
[12:28] Speaker 1: vibe for a city.
[12:29] Speaker 3: Okay, Vancouver seems lovely to me.
[12:31] Speaker 1: And also I'm there, so like we could famously hang.
[12:33] Speaker 3: Out there we go. See the reasons are piling up,
[12:35] Speaker 3: that's're absolutely piling up. I wonder what the flight? Oh?
[12:38] Speaker 3: I mean, I guess I could simply ask you, what
[12:40] Speaker 3: is the flight from LA to Vancouver?
[12:42] Speaker 1: Well, in terms of a price point, in terms of length.
[12:44] Speaker 3: Let's go for both. I mean I was thinking length,
[12:46] Speaker 3: but why not talk numbers?
[12:48] Speaker 1: Okay, if you're gonna do the northbound flight, you're looking
[12:51] Speaker 1: at three hours because you're going against the wind. If
[12:53] Speaker 1: you're coming back down south, you're looking at two and
[12:54] Speaker 1: a half because you're going with it. That's nothing, it's
[12:57] Speaker 1: nothing true. It's literally the definition of a hop, skip
[12:59] Speaker 1: and a jump. And when you look up that in
[13:01] Speaker 1: the dictionary, it's just a picture of you flying. And
[13:03] Speaker 1: then in terms of a price point, I mean, obviously
[13:05] Speaker 1: depends on how far ahead you're booking. I would say
[13:08] Speaker 1: round trip, are looking at like anywhere between five to
[13:10] Speaker 1: seven hundred dollars.
[13:11] Speaker 3: Okay, that's too much money. Wait, five to seven hundred
[13:14] Speaker 3: Canadian Yeah, a three hour flight five round trip in
[13:19] Speaker 3: US dollars. Five hundred dollars for a three hour flight,
[13:22] Speaker 3: that's too much money. It's three to four hundred dollars
[13:26] Speaker 3: to get to New York.
[13:28] Speaker 1: Oh but okay, but that's within your own country.
[13:32] Speaker 3: I don't care. We're talking distance, I don't imaginary whatever
[13:38] Speaker 3: the borders. Who cares? That shouldn't change prices?
[13:41] Speaker 1: Well, famously it does, and I'm trying to break it to.
[13:43] Speaker 3: You on the case. Let's see here, we're looking at
[13:47] Speaker 3: what does that say?
[13:48] Speaker 1: Okay, so we've got a one. Oh, there's a two
[13:50] Speaker 1: hundred dollars round trip.
[13:51] Speaker 3: I guess what, Sorry, no one wants to go to Vancouver.
[13:56] Speaker 1: I guess I just fly a little more expensive than
[13:58] Speaker 1: you do as all. I guess I don't paying private
[14:01] Speaker 1: flight there. Yeah, it's it's me and Taylor Swift and
[14:04] Speaker 1: are private plane. And I'm like, girl, this is a
[14:06] Speaker 1: forty five minute trip, and this is we have to
[14:08] Speaker 1: do it. We have to do it. I know this
[14:10] Speaker 1: is what you normally do on your own just to
[14:12] Speaker 1: like empty some fuel into the ocean. But we got
[14:13] Speaker 1: to go right now.
[14:14] Speaker 3: If it's two hundred dollars to get there, I'm going
[14:16] Speaker 3: to be there every weekend.
[14:18] Speaker 1: I can. I say. I think you would really enjoy it,
[14:21] Speaker 1: and I would love to see you there.
[14:22] Speaker 3: I feel like the food there is good such true.
[14:24] Speaker 1: Is an excellent food city. It's very like I mean,
[14:29] Speaker 1: it's I would say, actually, especially because you're in LA,
[14:32] Speaker 1: Vancouver would actually be an incredible jumping off point for you,
[14:35] Speaker 1: because I think there are certain tenets of Vancouver culture
[14:37] Speaker 1: that really, uh, what's sort I'm looking for that the
[14:41] Speaker 1: drop parallels between LA. So like, for example, Vancouver is
[14:45] Speaker 1: very much a city that pauses itself as being a
[14:48] Speaker 1: wellness city.
[14:49] Speaker 3: So a lot of who are like familiar.
[14:51] Speaker 1: You know, we're all trying to eat well, we're trying
[14:53] Speaker 1: to exercise. I mean, am I a person who wakes
[14:56] Speaker 1: up every morning at five am to go to the gym? Somehow? Yes,
[14:59] Speaker 1: every morning, wouldn't you know it? Monday through Friday. I'm
[15:02] Speaker 1: up at five am, I'm in the gym at five thirty.
[15:04] Speaker 1: We're doing an I forty five. We're back at home
[15:06] Speaker 1: at six fifteen and we're taking a shower. We're on
[15:07] Speaker 1: our computer to work for seven. I mean, look at
[15:09] Speaker 1: this structure I've built for my life.
[15:11] Speaker 3: You are trapped in some sort of You've got to
[15:14] Speaker 3: let go.
[15:15] Speaker 1: But also, this is what I'm saying, it's Vancouver is
[15:18] Speaker 1: the right city for this phase of my life. Was
[15:20] Speaker 1: I looking for the structure of my twenties? Of course?
[15:23] Speaker 1: Was it any Did I have anything approaching that kind
[15:26] Speaker 1: of structure? No? But I wanted it so desperately. And
[15:29] Speaker 1: the fact that I am now a person in their
[15:31] Speaker 1: thirties with a ritual and a routine, it is so
[15:34] Speaker 1: comforting to me.
[15:35] Speaker 3: Five days a week.
[15:36] Speaker 1: You look very fit.
[15:37] Speaker 3: Oh thank you.
[15:38] Speaker 1: You are obviously an exercise.
[15:39] Speaker 3: I work out but twice a week and it is horrible.
[15:44] Speaker 3: And I will say that this is gonna sound like
[15:46] Speaker 3: I'm once made me throw up.
[15:48] Speaker 1: Well, we've all been there. Wait a minute, did you
[15:49] Speaker 1: actually throw up?
[15:50] Speaker 3: Yes? I grew up in the street. I'm just going
[15:53] Speaker 3: to end. It was actually very recent. This is a
[15:55] Speaker 3: recent development. Really, yes, I And now we're revealing it.
[15:59] Speaker 1: Do you mind me?
[16:00] Speaker 3: Can you some follow up questions about it? Of course
[16:01] Speaker 3: I love a follow up on throw up?
[16:03] Speaker 1: Okay, what time of day was it?
[16:04] Speaker 4: It was?
[16:05] Speaker 3: I I usually do early evening, five o'clock.
[16:08] Speaker 1: Did you eat beforehand?
[16:09] Speaker 2: No?
[16:10] Speaker 1: Fascinating?
[16:11] Speaker 3: You know what? And this is gonna I mean, people
[16:13] Speaker 3: are just going to say he's out of control. There
[16:15] Speaker 3: are times I'll do my I'll schedule my gym appointment
[16:18] Speaker 3: for seven pm, and I have to eat dinner before that.
[16:22] Speaker 3: I'll go to it. This is actually this is this
[16:25] Speaker 3: does not reflect well on me, but we're just we're
[16:26] Speaker 3: in it now.
[16:27] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[16:27] Speaker 3: I'll go to in and Out at five o'clock and
[16:29] Speaker 3: eat a full meal. Yeah, and then I'm working out
[16:32] Speaker 3: at seven o'clock with a giant hamburger and French fries
[16:34] Speaker 3: in me.
[16:35] Speaker 1: This is gonna sound like I'm placating you, but you're
[16:38] Speaker 1: by that point you've had two hours to digest. So
[16:40] Speaker 1: it makes sense then that actually to me. Can I
[16:42] Speaker 1: be honest, that doesn't bump to use some podcastling go
[16:45] Speaker 1: that doesn't bump for me at all, That really doesn't.
[16:47] Speaker 3: I got to put that in my lingo. I'm gonna
[16:49] Speaker 3: start bumping nonstoff.
[16:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, No, I think that's absolutely the right thing.
[16:53] Speaker 1: Do you need energy before you are?
[16:54] Speaker 3: Okay?
[16:54] Speaker 1: So you're supporting this, no fucking question. Am I supporting?
[16:59] Speaker 3: Love to this? Because every time I go, I feel like, oh,
[17:01] Speaker 3: this is dangerous behavior? What am I doing? But I
[17:04] Speaker 3: have to do it because it's the only way I
[17:05] Speaker 3: can do it.
[17:06] Speaker 1: Listen, My thing is this. If they recommend that you
[17:08] Speaker 1: wait half an hour before jumping into a pool two hours.
[17:11] Speaker 3: Two hours, it's stirring around in your stomach, it's been
[17:13] Speaker 3: chewed up, it's dignasticated.
[17:16] Speaker 1: My god. No, I think that's the right thing to do.
[17:18] Speaker 3: And I'm getting a little bit of caffeine, which I
[17:19] Speaker 3: think I need.
[17:22] Speaker 1: Do you think that's what prompted the throw up?
[17:24] Speaker 3: What the eating or the caffeine?
[17:27] Speaker 1: Well, I know you didn't eat beforehand, so do the caffeine.
[17:29] Speaker 3: No. I think it was just the sheer intensity of
[17:31] Speaker 3: the workut and I had been gone for two weeks
[17:35] Speaker 3: and oh, you had essentially been sitting on a plane
[17:38] Speaker 3: for ten hours a day before, so it was it
[17:41] Speaker 3: was not.
[17:41] Speaker 1: A good I think it was just like a shock
[17:42] Speaker 1: to your system.
[17:43] Speaker 3: Gives a bad idea on my part. And I've injured myself.
[17:46] Speaker 3: And that's another thing that's happening. I've heard my bat I.
[17:48] Speaker 1: Mean, are you dealing with the herd back right now?
[17:51] Speaker 3: It's it's getting better. I mean, this is just becoming
[17:53] Speaker 3: the pity hour, but yes, some back pain.
[17:55] Speaker 1: I want to say this to the listeners at home.
[17:57] Speaker 1: MOSTO can't appreciate Bridger's physical stature. The fact that you
[18:00] Speaker 1: only exercise two days a week, to me is alarming
[18:02] Speaker 1: because you race and we keep it tight like guns
[18:06] Speaker 1: for days. I mean, like, I didn't realize this was
[18:09] Speaker 1: like an opening carry state. I'll say that, but like, like,
[18:12] Speaker 1: you're an incredible.
[18:13] Speaker 3: Shape Bridger's I'm telling you, they made me throw up.
[18:16] Speaker 3: Oh got it so only once though, And I hope
[18:19] Speaker 3: it's not the beginning of some sort of pattern where
[18:22] Speaker 3: I'm constantly throwing up in the street. I don't want
[18:24] Speaker 3: to become that person. It's constant, you know.
[18:27] Speaker 1: I mean, it isn't, unfortunately, a way to keep the
[18:29] Speaker 1: weight off. I hate to break it to you, but
[18:31] Speaker 1: it just is a.
[18:32] Speaker 3: Half a granola bar. I eight at three o'clock. Yeah,
[18:35] Speaker 3: get out? Oh how did we get to me throwing
[18:38] Speaker 3: up in the gutter? Exercise exercise fitness Vancouver, Vancouver. You're
[18:43] Speaker 3: exercising five days a week. Vancouver's a wellness town.
[18:45] Speaker 1: Well and also oh and you were like, and I
[18:47] Speaker 1: bet you Vancouver is a great food town. Yes, and
[18:50] Speaker 1: it is, I will say the way that it really
[18:52] Speaker 1: suffers unfortunately because it is a bit of a wellness town.
[18:55] Speaker 1: Although so is La and the La y'all have figure
[18:58] Speaker 1: this out. Vancouver on unfortunately is not a great dessert city.
[19:02] Speaker 1: I'm oh, it just isn't.
[19:04] Speaker 3: Oh, I hate to hear that.
[19:05] Speaker 1: Now, Onalise, you're you're nodding. Have you been to Vancouver?
[19:08] Speaker 1: Do you agree with this?
[19:09] Speaker 3: You do you have bad desserts or no desserts? No
[19:12] Speaker 3: dessert Oh has had no desserts?
[19:15] Speaker 1: Well yeah, to me, it's just like and and it's
[19:18] Speaker 1: fun And again, La, you have really figured out.
[19:21] Speaker 3: Oh, I can tell you desserts galore.
[19:23] Speaker 1: And specifically, you guys have figured out donut culture here.
[19:26] Speaker 3: Oh, I can tell you, well, I have some. I
[19:29] Speaker 3: have a lot of opinions on the donut.
[19:30] Speaker 1: Culture, same as do you. And I have strong opinions
[19:33] Speaker 1: about the donut culture in Vancouver, and regrettably they are lost.
[19:40] Speaker 1: They need some direction. Let me ask you this. When
[19:43] Speaker 1: you get a filled like a like a like a jelly,
[19:45] Speaker 1: don't like a filled jelly.
[19:46] Speaker 3: Like a Boston cream. Let's not leave that off the table.
[19:49] Speaker 1: But no, specifically, I want to ask about the jelly one,
[19:51] Speaker 1: because when you get the jelly donut, what do you prefer?
[19:55] Speaker 1: Do you want a tan? Do you want it to
[19:57] Speaker 1: be coated with a raw granulated sugar or a powdered sugar?
[20:01] Speaker 3: Oh?
[20:01] Speaker 1: Interesting on Alice's mouth? Your answer?
[20:04] Speaker 3: And I'm not gonna look yeah, okay?
[20:08] Speaker 1: And are you out of your mind? What is your answer?
[20:12] Speaker 3: Can I look up my favorite one? I'm trying to
[20:14] Speaker 3: remember if it has that type of sugar. I go
[20:17] Speaker 3: to a place called kettle Glazed Donuts, okay, and it's
[20:20] Speaker 3: so delicious.
[20:22] Speaker 1: And also, listeners, don't if you don't, don't worry. I
[20:24] Speaker 1: will tell you what anoles reveals to me, like I'm
[20:26] Speaker 1: just sitting on it. But just so you know, I am.
[20:28] Speaker 1: I'm almost about to get in the backseat to that
[20:29] Speaker 1: uberth Michael again. I swear to gone, I'm about to
[20:31] Speaker 1: buildoz an.
[20:32] Speaker 3: I wonder what's gonna happen when I answer I while
[20:34] Speaker 3: it's gonna to destroy the entire podcast.
[20:36] Speaker 1: This is already becoming a bit of an unsafe space
[20:38] Speaker 1: if I'm honest.
[20:39] Speaker 3: Okay, I'm looking at their donuts. I'm flying through yelp.
[20:42] Speaker 3: I'm looking for my preferred jelly donut. What are they
[20:45] Speaker 3: serving here? And I think that this may be a twist.
[20:50] Speaker 3: It may not even be the right answer in either direction.
[20:53] Speaker 1: Oh, because are you thinking glazed?
[20:55] Speaker 3: I like it glazed? Okay, so okay, but okay, they
[20:59] Speaker 3: make an excellent lace don't and they make their own jam.
[21:01] Speaker 3: I can't recommend this place stuff and the price point
[21:04] Speaker 3: is perfect. Oh, I love kettle glaze.
[21:07] Speaker 1: So if you had a jelly full donut, would you
[21:09] Speaker 1: prefer that the exterior of the powdered? Thank you?
[21:12] Speaker 5: And ald like a lunatic psychopath.
[21:18] Speaker 3: Oh, I can't even where have you had that?
[21:21] Speaker 1: Just around.
[21:21] Speaker 4: I feel like I've had it like a duncan, like
[21:23] Speaker 4: I don't think uncommon.
[21:25] Speaker 1: I've never had it with a powder.
[21:26] Speaker 3: Oh, I picture a powder That's it's the quintessential I'm
[21:30] Speaker 3: sorry to say, obviously a cab, but it's the quintessential
[21:33] Speaker 3: cop donut. It is a certain like the powder jelly donut.
[21:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, and are you so a cab that that you
[21:39] Speaker 1: won't eat that jelly donut that's actually huge?
[21:41] Speaker 3: Are huge? But let's say yes, sure.
[21:43] Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, Well it's because my thing about granulated sugar
[21:47] Speaker 1: is like on like it's I know that powdered sugar
[21:53] Speaker 1: is just like blended granulated sugar.
[21:55] Speaker 3: I know this, Yeah, but I mean it's creates a
[21:57] Speaker 3: textural difference.
[21:58] Speaker 1: And also my illness is I think if it's powdered,
[22:01] Speaker 1: then it's less sugar.
[22:02] Speaker 3: Oh. Interesting, you feel like somehow the spreading of it
[22:05] Speaker 3: is like at an atom level, Yeah, making less sugar
[22:10] Speaker 3: on the doughnut.
[22:10] Speaker 1: And I will say this when I eat a powdered
[22:13] Speaker 1: sugar that is, or rather when I eat a filled
[22:15] Speaker 1: jelly donut that is powdered versus granulated. When I eat
[22:18] Speaker 1: the powdered one, I don't feel sick afterwards, whereas when
[22:20] Speaker 1: I eat the granulated one, I do feel because to me,
[22:25] Speaker 1: I think it is I bet you it is more sugar.
[22:28] Speaker 1: I bet you anything interesting.
[22:30] Speaker 3: I would almost say it's less because those granules are.
[22:33] Speaker 1: I have to go.
[22:34] Speaker 3: They're taking a space on that donut.
[22:36] Speaker 1: I'm gonna call Michael. I'm getting the backseat of this uber.
[22:38] Speaker 1: This is a nightmare.
[22:40] Speaker 3: But Vancouver is doing all of their donuts and a
[22:42] Speaker 3: granulated sugar.
[22:42] Speaker 1: A lot of them, like the jelly filled ones. Regrettably yes,
[22:46] Speaker 1: but uh and a lot of people drag me for
[22:49] Speaker 1: this in Vancouver, and this is a very Vancouver specific reference,
[22:51] Speaker 1: so I apologize to the listeners. But like, the place
[22:54] Speaker 1: I go to for my donuts is this chain spot
[22:56] Speaker 1: in Vancouver called Breca Okay, which is like, not like
[23:00] Speaker 1: there are more mom and pop more like niche artisan
[23:03] Speaker 1: places to get a donut. But let me tell you something.
[23:06] Speaker 1: They figured it out and I don't think they should
[23:09] Speaker 1: ever ever ever be discounted. I think they are the
[23:11] Speaker 1: they are the place to go for a donut. Well,
[23:14] Speaker 1: it sounds like a mini chain to me, it is
[23:16] Speaker 1: a mini chain.
[23:16] Speaker 3: I feel like mini chains can be trusted in some situations.
[23:22] Speaker 1: Not if. But when you come to Vancouver. Two things.
[23:26] Speaker 1: We're getting dinner and then we are gonna get a
[23:29] Speaker 1: donut from Brecca.
[23:29] Speaker 3: Oh, I thought you were going to say that, we're
[23:30] Speaker 3: going to follow it up with breakfast.
[23:32] Speaker 1: And listen, we're gonna we're gonna have dinner, We're gonna
[23:35] Speaker 1: have a crazy night, and then six Sam will roll
[23:37] Speaker 1: around and we're gonna find ourselves a twenty four hour
[23:39] Speaker 1: diner and just do it all over again.
[23:41] Speaker 3: Okay, I I trust you. I feel like you know
[23:44] Speaker 3: donuts if you have strong opinions. Breca b r e kka.
[23:49] Speaker 3: Cut out that second k oh. We're working with a
[23:51] Speaker 3: single k girl, Recca. Who that's a oh yeah, I'm
[23:55] Speaker 3: trying to figure out why it's called Breca.
[23:57] Speaker 1: And you know, so funny. In spite of how truly,
[24:00] Speaker 1: at this point thousands of dollars I've given them in
[24:02] Speaker 1: my business, I've never thought to inquire because you know
[24:04] Speaker 1: what the product is a solid. I don't second guess.
[24:06] Speaker 3: Are you getting a coffee there?
[24:08] Speaker 1: Nope? Oh I will, oh you don't.
[24:10] Speaker 3: Oh?
[24:10] Speaker 1: Okay. First of all, just so I can really explain
[24:12] Speaker 1: my mental illness to you, I am a person who
[24:14] Speaker 1: will have donuts delivered to my home.
[24:16] Speaker 3: Oh boy, this is that's crossing the line for me.
[24:19] Speaker 3: I have to go. First of all, I need to
[24:21] Speaker 3: see the donut before I put down money for it.
[24:23] Speaker 1: But let me say this isn't it Isn't it a
[24:26] Speaker 1: testament to the product that I know I can deliver
[24:28] Speaker 1: Breca and it's always gonna be good. Why And I
[24:30] Speaker 1: don't need to see it beforehand? And sure enough when
[24:32] Speaker 1: it shows up at my friend door, it's exactly what
[24:34] Speaker 1: I think.
[24:34] Speaker 3: And how many are you ordering to be delivered?
[24:36] Speaker 1: That's kind of actually none of your business. No, you
[24:38] Speaker 1: want to know something, I'm like, no, you know what,
[24:41] Speaker 1: I'm going to be honest and vulnerable. I will order
[24:44] Speaker 1: three donuts to my apartment.
[24:45] Speaker 3: That seems like if it was one donut, that would
[24:48] Speaker 3: be like a Taylor Swift private jet level of waste, right,
[24:51] Speaker 3: But three donuts, because you're not going to order a
[24:53] Speaker 3: dozen for yourself, You're gonna be drawing crazy.
[24:56] Speaker 1: And I definitely have never done that. Guys, the pandemic
[24:59] Speaker 1: was dark, But no, I feel like three is good
[25:02] Speaker 1: because then you get like, listen, you're gonna get like
[25:04] Speaker 1: a different donut you're getting a variety, obviously, because it's me.
[25:08] Speaker 1: Every donut that I'm getting is gonna be a filled donut,
[25:10] Speaker 1: but it's like a different kind of filled.
[25:11] Speaker 3: Any type of chocolate happening.
[25:14] Speaker 1: Get ready?
[25:14] Speaker 3: Oh okay.
[25:15] Speaker 1: So they have your quintessential gorgeous Boston cream, which obviously
[25:18] Speaker 1: on the menu. Obviously they also do an it's like
[25:23] Speaker 1: eating a cloud. They have a powdered sugar nutella filled donut.
[25:28] Speaker 3: Oh delicious. No, I'm kind of on record as saying
[25:31] Speaker 3: nutella is too sweet.
[25:33] Speaker 1: Which is surprising to me because it's famously more nutty,
[25:36] Speaker 1: I think than it is sweet.
[25:37] Speaker 3: I don't know what's going on there, but the way
[25:38] Speaker 3: my mouth reacts to nutella is I think I'm like,
[25:41] Speaker 3: this is frosting?
[25:44] Speaker 1: Is this like You're like, it's like you're on a
[25:46] Speaker 1: lease with the granulated sugar. It's like, for whatever reason,
[25:48] Speaker 1: it's just like it's something you either are aren't on
[25:51] Speaker 1: board with.
[25:51] Speaker 3: It might be I think it's genetic.
[25:54] Speaker 1: Are like my mother hated Natella, My grandmother hated Natella.
[25:59] Speaker 1: What's your thought? It's on a caramel situation, because caramel
[26:02] Speaker 1: is a very divisive.
[26:02] Speaker 3: Well, I mean and it's also a wildly and consistent product. Correct,
[26:07] Speaker 3: I mean you good, and I'm gonna say caramel. I
[26:10] Speaker 3: have to be true to myself. Well, actually, I'm not
[26:13] Speaker 3: being true to myself because I say both, which is
[26:15] Speaker 3: not right. It's not fair to anybody.
[26:17] Speaker 1: Well, because you just want to make friends and you
[26:19] Speaker 1: don't want to you don't want to anger anybody.
[26:21] Speaker 3: And it depends on the situation. Sometimes if I'm like
[26:23] Speaker 3: at a nice baker, I'm like, I can't say carmel here.
[26:25] Speaker 3: They're gonna think I'm trash caramel.
[26:27] Speaker 1: Do you find though that I have you traveled to
[26:29] Speaker 1: the South in the States, I've been to Tennessee, And
[26:33] Speaker 1: do you find that when you're in a place like
[26:34] Speaker 1: Tennessee you can just say carmel and feel safe?
[26:36] Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, Utah, I'm safe.
[26:38] Speaker 2: Uh.
[26:39] Speaker 3: Basically the Mountain West, California, You're California is tricky because
[26:44] Speaker 3: everyone here is a transplant, right, and so everyone brings
[26:46] Speaker 3: their own little problem with caramel. Uh. But as far
[26:50] Speaker 3: as as far as the food itself, I'm you generally
[26:54] Speaker 3: on board.
[26:55] Speaker 1: Because they do a filled donut ibreca, it's a dulce
[26:58] Speaker 1: de la cha. Oh, and I and I have to
[27:00] Speaker 1: say I am not a caramel fan hmm, and I
[27:04] Speaker 1: do really enjoy that.
[27:06] Speaker 3: Then that must be good. That's a good See it's.
[27:09] Speaker 1: A solid product. And when you think about okay, first
[27:11] Speaker 1: of all, if Breca's business does not boom after this,
[27:15] Speaker 1: and they deserve it, they.
[27:16] Speaker 3: Aren't going to go straight out of business.
[27:18] Speaker 1: I I mean listen only because they run out of stock.
[27:23] Speaker 1: That's why. That's why between this and Hollywood Hotel, think
[27:27] Speaker 1: of what I'm helping to do for small businesses everywhere.
[27:29] Speaker 3: I would love for this podcast to drive a small
[27:31] Speaker 3: business out of business. If there's a.
[27:34] Speaker 1: Small business that you could pick to go out of business,
[27:35] Speaker 1: which one would it be. Let's all say it. Let's
[27:38] Speaker 1: all say our small and dependent mom and pop store
[27:41] Speaker 1: that we want to run out of town.
[27:42] Speaker 3: I mean, I could name several dentists and optometrists. Oh,
[27:46] Speaker 3: we're not gonna do it. I complained about all these
[27:48] Speaker 3: people enough, But I did have an optometrist who took
[27:51] Speaker 3: my contact directly out of my eye, and I think
[27:54] Speaker 3: that maybe there should there's a health code being violated
[27:56] Speaker 3: or something there. They should be put out of business.
[27:58] Speaker 1: That to me is like when this is this is
[28:02] Speaker 1: gonna be a weird This is where I where my
[28:04] Speaker 1: brain went. But just follow this logic for a second.
[28:06] Speaker 1: It's kind of like if you are a parent, you
[28:09] Speaker 1: become so desensitized to germs and like bodily fluids because
[28:15] Speaker 1: you're just constantly dealing with it all the time, that
[28:16] Speaker 1: you then think you can just engage with the rest
[28:18] Speaker 1: of the world.
[28:19] Speaker 3: Do you know what I mean.
[28:20] Speaker 1: It's like like for that Upton intrist, they're like, well,
[28:22] Speaker 1: I deal with people's eyes, so I'll just get that,
[28:24] Speaker 1: and you're like, no, no, no, like in the same
[28:26] Speaker 1: way that like like oh as you like you as
[28:29] Speaker 1: this adult parent, like you don't need to like bring
[28:31] Speaker 1: a hand keep my nose, Like I got it exactly.
[28:33] Speaker 3: I guess exactly what was going on. Oh you don't
[28:35] Speaker 3: pluck something out of my eye. No, not without your
[28:38] Speaker 3: permission and without my friend. And that's and the mood
[28:41] Speaker 3: has to be right.
[28:42] Speaker 1: If there's not at least ten lit candles, then this
[28:45] Speaker 1: isn't gonna work.
[28:46] Speaker 3: Liam. Yes, we've got something else we have to talk about.
[28:50] Speaker 3: We absolutely have something else to talk about. Look, okay,
[28:54] Speaker 3: I was excited to have you here today. I thought, uh,
[28:57] Speaker 3: you know, bare minimum will have a fine time. Yes,
[29:00] Speaker 3: it could be it could go all over the place,
[29:02] Speaker 3: or you know, there could be an explosion. You never know.
[29:03] Speaker 3: But I thought we're gonna have a good time, right,
[29:05] Speaker 3: Liam's so sweet, he's so funny. We're gonna have a
[29:07] Speaker 3: nice time. So you know, the podcast is called I
[29:10] Speaker 3: said no gifts, and so emails have been sent, exchanges
[29:14] Speaker 3: have been made. I mean, I feel like this title
[29:17] Speaker 3: has been run by you. So I was a little surprised.
[29:21] Speaker 3: First of all, you were late, and so I was
[29:22] Speaker 3: already wow, running hot.
[29:25] Speaker 1: Wow. We explicitly said that that was a Michael's fault.
[29:28] Speaker 3: Analis was kind of scratching your name out of future guests.
[29:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, interesting on a Lie's interesting on two feasts,
[29:35] Speaker 1: you are on aalise.
[29:38] Speaker 3: And then here comes strike two. Okay, Liam skipping into
[29:42] Speaker 3: the backyard holding what, at least from my where I'm standing,
[29:48] Speaker 3: is a gift?
[29:50] Speaker 1: Can I say where the confusion was?
[29:51] Speaker 3: I would love some clarity.
[29:54] Speaker 1: Famously, I'm not great at reading emails.
[29:57] Speaker 3: Okay.
[29:58] Speaker 1: I was so sure you're gonna die when I tell
[29:59] Speaker 1: you this. I thought the podcast was called please now
[30:04] Speaker 1: more gifts. Now, please grab your Winergard.
[30:07] Speaker 3: It's the same set of letters, essentially.
[30:09] Speaker 1: And so here I was thinking if anything kind of
[30:13] Speaker 1: weird that he would demand that a guest bring him
[30:15] Speaker 1: a gift. That that's where my brain went. I'll say that,
[30:19] Speaker 1: and I don't blame you, and so I mean, I
[30:22] Speaker 1: but listen, I in keeping with my polite Canadian nature,
[30:26] Speaker 1: who is I had to question you? And here you
[30:27] Speaker 1: are hosting me in your gorgeous you know, home, your backyard,
[30:30] Speaker 1: you doing everything I can. You got me water with ice,
[30:34] Speaker 1: everybody hello, So I thought, listen, of course I'll extend
[30:38] Speaker 1: the gesture I will, I will, you know, follow along
[30:40] Speaker 1: with the protocol of this podcast. I will get you
[30:42] Speaker 1: a gift because obviously the title demands it. And I really,
[30:46] Speaker 1: I really, you know, I messed up. Okay, I messed
[30:49] Speaker 1: up owning it, and I think it's that's the bravest
[30:52] Speaker 1: and most honest thing I could do.
[30:54] Speaker 3: And it's also very professional. You may not be a
[30:56] Speaker 3: professional in email, no, you may be falling away behind
[31:00] Speaker 3: in that sector, yeah, but here you are, you bringing
[31:02] Speaker 3: a real class with the apology, the owning, and then
[31:05] Speaker 3: there's this gift and it's like, I don't know, should
[31:08] Speaker 3: we open it? Here on the podcast.
[31:09] Speaker 1: I mean, if you don't mind, you know what I
[31:33] Speaker 1: think we should do, though.
[31:34] Speaker 3: Go ahead, you're I mean, you're making all these calls.
[31:36] Speaker 1: Now, I think you should close your eyes when I
[31:38] Speaker 1: give it to you, and then I'm gonna give it
[31:39] Speaker 1: to you, and then you're gonna open your eyes.
[31:41] Speaker 3: Okay, in the okay, but you're going to hand it
[31:43] Speaker 3: to me in the bag it came, yes, okay, no question?
[31:46] Speaker 3: And should we say what bag it's in right now?
[31:48] Speaker 1: Famously it is very much in a Macy's bag. And
[31:51] Speaker 1: did I buy your gift at Macy's No?
[31:53] Speaker 2: Why?
[31:53] Speaker 1: Let me explain. I also am not great at reading
[31:55] Speaker 1: wedding invitations. So here's what happened. I had so I
[31:58] Speaker 1: came into town, as I mentioned, I think for a
[32:00] Speaker 1: wedding and if I didn't, now we all know. And
[32:04] Speaker 1: there was a dress code that I definitely did miss.
[32:06] Speaker 1: And they specifically were like, we don't want any cream
[32:08] Speaker 1: colored clothes. Ohs, that is exactly what I brought for
[32:11] Speaker 1: the weddings a lot. So I Jake and Becky they're
[32:14] Speaker 1: allowed to do whatever they want.
[32:15] Speaker 3: It's their big day, Jake and Becky, I'm not on
[32:16] Speaker 3: your soul. Hello.
[32:17] Speaker 1: Well and listen, you said it, not me. But the
[32:19] Speaker 1: point is I am meeting them for dinner after this anyway.
[32:21] Speaker 1: So I bulldozed over to Macy's bought myself a blue
[32:25] Speaker 1: suit as one does. Wow, and ahead of the Macy's purchase,
[32:29] Speaker 1: because I thought you were demanding a gift, I went
[32:32] Speaker 1: over to a little special place. So, Bridger, now is
[32:34] Speaker 1: the time. Close your eyes, closing my eyes, get ready
[32:36] Speaker 1: to receive. I put my hand out here. Yeah, I
[32:38] Speaker 1: think it's perfect. Get ready to receive the Macy's bag. Okay, okay,
[32:41] Speaker 1: he's holding it. He's holding it.
[32:43] Speaker 3: Shall I open my eyes? Okay, I'm going to okay,
[32:45] Speaker 3: right to your face. I okay, And I'm reaching in for.
[32:49] Speaker 1: He's really getting into the bag. He's getting into the bagh.
[32:52] Speaker 3: Okay, I'm okay, okay, I mean should I guess that's fun?
[32:57] Speaker 1: What do you think it is?
[32:58] Speaker 3: I mean, from what I'm feeling, hm hmm, it's a
[33:01] Speaker 3: square wrapped in plastic. That's about I would say fourteen
[33:05] Speaker 3: inches by fourteen inches.
[33:07] Speaker 1: Oh my god. First of all, if that, if that's
[33:08] Speaker 1: the accurate math, that is incredible.
[33:10] Speaker 3: And we should check later. I'm very good at estimates.
[33:13] Speaker 3: I'm going to say, oh, there's there are two things
[33:16] Speaker 3: I want to guess, but I'm going to lean into
[33:19] Speaker 3: this is a record.
[33:20] Speaker 1: Opening on zan flip it over.
[33:23] Speaker 3: It Actually, oh my gosh, this is in Oh. I mean,
[33:26] Speaker 3: I'm just falling apart looking at this. Are you I
[33:29] Speaker 3: love this album?
[33:30] Speaker 1: Should we reveal what it is?
[33:32] Speaker 3: It's Fleetwood Max Toss.
[33:33] Speaker 1: Now let me ask you a question. Do you own
[33:34] Speaker 1: a record player?
[33:35] Speaker 3: I don't, well, and then this pick is a bust.
[33:38] Speaker 3: But listen, I'll but look to just own this. This
[33:42] Speaker 3: is my favorite Fleetwood mac album mine two. It's I mean,
[33:47] Speaker 3: it is the best one. They're all. I mean, there
[33:49] Speaker 3: are a.
[33:50] Speaker 1: Listen rumors deserves its flowers for all the obvious reasons.
[33:54] Speaker 1: But here's the thing. If you're a real one, this
[33:57] Speaker 1: is the best one. And I want to say something else.
[34:00] Speaker 1: When I was rummaging through bens trying to find one,
[34:02] Speaker 1: they had multiple copies and I did exert the due
[34:04] Speaker 1: diligence in picking up the one that was the last
[34:06] Speaker 1: water Damage one. So I want I really.
[34:08] Speaker 3: Is a US album.
[34:10] Speaker 1: I believe it is.
[34:10] Speaker 3: That's amazing. This may be for all we know, this
[34:14] Speaker 3: is like a an original.
[34:16] Speaker 1: For all we know, there are trace amounts of cocaine
[34:18] Speaker 1: on the Liner album liner notes of that album.
[34:20] Speaker 3: I'm so thrilled about this. Where did you get it?
[34:23] Speaker 1: It was from a little like secondhand store. God, I
[34:28] Speaker 1: wish I can remember the name of it. It's like
[34:29] Speaker 1: in downtown LA when you walk in there's an enormous
[34:33] Speaker 1: mannequin with a like peacock feathered dress. Okay, and you
[34:38] Speaker 1: walk in and it feels like, all of a sudden,
[34:41] Speaker 1: you're stepping foot into a warehouse. Oh, like, the owner
[34:44] Speaker 1: of the store is this is absolutely true? Was just
[34:47] Speaker 1: like openly rolling joints at the counter. True, And he
[34:52] Speaker 1: just like sat himself inside in front of like an
[34:54] Speaker 1: industrial sized fan. Okay, it's hot in there.
[34:57] Speaker 3: I guess it's sure not a lot of air circulation
[34:59] Speaker 3: somewhere in the wear house.
[35:00] Speaker 1: Absolutely, And so I went there and because you know what,
[35:02] Speaker 1: I because it was going to be either this one
[35:05] Speaker 1: or I was going to get you a Linda Ronstatt record.
[35:07] Speaker 3: Oh interesting, Now I wouldn't have been as excited.
[35:10] Speaker 1: And then I'm so glad I got you this one.
[35:11] Speaker 3: I would have thought, oh, you know, I don't I'm
[35:14] Speaker 3: not as familiar with Linda. This will be nice well,
[35:17] Speaker 3: this feels like a momento.
[35:18] Speaker 1: And I'm not a religious person, but this is really
[35:21] Speaker 1: you know, you know what this is, Mama, that's God.
[35:24] Speaker 3: We finally found proof.
[35:25] Speaker 1: This is the fact that I could have and did,
[35:27] Speaker 1: by the way, search out Linda Ronstet Records, and then
[35:30] Speaker 1: I happened upon this one. Literally, I was like, I
[35:32] Speaker 1: went to this record store thinking it was I was
[35:34] Speaker 1: so certain I was going to get you, like Living
[35:36] Speaker 1: in the USA or Mad Love, and then sure enough
[35:38] Speaker 1: this quite literally essentially jumped out at me.
[35:41] Speaker 3: And I was like levitated.
[35:42] Speaker 1: Yeah, just with Steve Vnix's witchy powers. And I thought,
[35:46] Speaker 1: wouldn't just be an absolute scream if I got him
[35:48] Speaker 1: Fleetwood Max Task And now here we are.
[35:49] Speaker 3: It's I mean, thank god I don't own a record player,
[35:52] Speaker 3: because then I would already own this and it would
[35:54] Speaker 3: be a double And then suddenly I'm dealing with doubles, and.
[35:56] Speaker 1: Really, when you think about it would be a quadruple,
[35:58] Speaker 1: because why that's a double album.
[35:59] Speaker 3: That's right, that's right. Too much vinyl happening, that's right.
[36:03] Speaker 1: Famously, I believe at the time. Now this is nineteen
[36:05] Speaker 1: seventy nine numbers, but I believe at the time, it
[36:08] Speaker 1: was the most expensive record ever made. It cost a
[36:11] Speaker 1: million dollars, which in nineteen seventy nine it was about.
[36:14] Speaker 3: Two hundred and fifty million dollars a sudden, you can
[36:16] Speaker 3: take that to the bank.
[36:17] Speaker 1: That's exactly right. And listen, as we've established, you're great
[36:20] Speaker 1: with SS numbers, so I'm sure that's exactly right. And
[36:23] Speaker 1: so this is a very you know, there's a lot
[36:25] Speaker 1: of like lore and there's a there's this is a
[36:27] Speaker 1: very you know, storied record, and so I mean, I
[36:31] Speaker 1: I love it, and I just thought, you know what
[36:32] Speaker 1: I want you to have it?
[36:33] Speaker 3: Can you tell us a little bit more about this album?
[36:35] Speaker 3: I feel like the only thing I really know is
[36:36] Speaker 3: that there was like an attempt to kind of there
[36:40] Speaker 3: was some punk influence on it.
[36:42] Speaker 1: There was a bit, yes, but it's so it's not overt.
[36:45] Speaker 1: I think what really happened with this record is, you know,
[36:49] Speaker 1: Lindsay Buckingham famously is like sort of the mastermind behind
[36:52] Speaker 1: all of all of their records. He's like the head
[36:54] Speaker 1: honcho producer, and after the enormous successive rumors, I think
[36:59] Speaker 1: he really wanted to strike out and do something really
[37:03] Speaker 1: musically different, which is why you know, this record, as
[37:05] Speaker 1: it compares to Rumors, I would say, is much more
[37:10] Speaker 1: rougher around the edges sonically, I think, you know, even
[37:14] Speaker 1: in terms of its subject matter, it's a little darker.
[37:16] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know, it's kind of like Rumors, but
[37:18] Speaker 1: without its polish and its sheen, which is why I
[37:20] Speaker 1: like it. There's something a little more pared down about it.
[37:24] Speaker 2: Uh.
[37:24] Speaker 1: And so this was a record I believe that took
[37:27] Speaker 1: them a year to finish making.
[37:28] Speaker 3: And was content of course. I mean it was horse
[37:31] Speaker 3: it was. It wasn't ever not contentious with that.
[37:33] Speaker 1: Imagine there's like, actually they got along so good.
[37:37] Speaker 3: It was all about teamwork.
[37:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, and then Christine mcvieh herself Ripe coined the term
[37:42] Speaker 1: that day in the studio in nineteen seventy eight. She said, guys,
[37:45] Speaker 1: this is gonna sound crazy, but I just came up
[37:47] Speaker 1: with this famously. I think teamwork makes the dream work.
[37:49] Speaker 3: And they were like, they all loved it.
[37:52] Speaker 1: STEVNX lifted herself up out of her like pound of cocaine.
[37:55] Speaker 1: She said, did you just make that up?
[37:56] Speaker 3: And she's like, I did, teamwork makes the dream work?
[37:59] Speaker 3: Does sound like someone on cocaine.
[38:01] Speaker 1: Oh and this record, by the way, absolutely sounds like
[38:04] Speaker 1: a bunch of people on cocaine made it. There's wonderful,
[38:07] Speaker 1: there's a kind of there's a there's like a frenzied
[38:11] Speaker 1: nature to it. There's a kind of there's it's ragged. Yeah, ragged, Yes,
[38:16] Speaker 1: there's a raggedness to it. I would say that is
[38:18] Speaker 1: exactly the right word everybody. I mean, if someone hasn't
[38:21] Speaker 1: heard this album, they've got to listen to it. Do
[38:23] Speaker 1: you now, given that you are already familiar with it,
[38:25] Speaker 1: are there songs on the record that already kind of
[38:27] Speaker 1: like speak to you? That are some of your favorites?
[38:29] Speaker 3: I love the Ledge. I think the Ledge is so good.
[38:32] Speaker 3: I mean it's hard for me to say. I mean,
[38:35] Speaker 3: Tusk is an incredible song. I don't I don't feel
[38:39] Speaker 3: like I have a number one favorite. Whenever I put
[38:41] Speaker 3: this album on, I just let it run through one.
[38:44] Speaker 3: I mean that's kind of my mo for most music. Well,
[38:47] Speaker 3: because I.
[38:48] Speaker 1: Think you and I are like just old enough. That's like,
[38:51] Speaker 1: that's how we grew up listening to music, like this
[38:53] Speaker 1: idea of going to tracks and it's like, I don't
[38:57] Speaker 1: mean to make it sound like we're eighty years old.
[38:58] Speaker 1: But I mean, like, I'm ninety eight, well and I'm
[39:00] Speaker 1: one hundred, and we look incredible. We've established were very
[39:02] Speaker 1: physically fit because of our routine and our exercise. Grandchildren
[39:06] Speaker 1: and we and God love them, one of them just
[39:08] Speaker 1: turned fifty. But like I think, I think what I've
[39:13] Speaker 1: am so yes struck by with this record is like
[39:17] Speaker 1: it does also emerge from an era where that is
[39:19] Speaker 1: how people intended for people to listen to that music, right,
[39:22] Speaker 1: Like this idea of singles mindset wasn't really as prevalent,
[39:26] Speaker 1: this idea that like no, no, you start an album side one, right,
[39:30] Speaker 1: you listen to it all the way through, and then
[39:31] Speaker 1: you flip it, and then you listen to that all
[39:33] Speaker 1: the way through and then you're done.
[39:34] Speaker 3: It's like a movie or a book.
[39:36] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, it is telling I'm sorry to say it
[39:38] Speaker 1: tells a story. That might sound right, but it's telling
[39:41] Speaker 1: a story.
[39:42] Speaker 3: What's happening with Fleetwood Mack at this point?
[39:44] Speaker 1: You know, it's so funny, literally, I'm not kidding. This morning,
[39:48] Speaker 1: Stevie Nicks was giving an interview with Vulture. Because of course,
[39:50] Speaker 1: Christy McFee.
[39:51] Speaker 3: Said she did top twenty five comedians to watch this year.
[39:54] Speaker 1: She did it, and because and you know what people
[39:56] Speaker 1: love about Steve v Nix's comedy. It's so viby. There
[40:00] Speaker 1: aren't any hard jokes, but she really sets the scene.
[40:04] Speaker 1: But she does an interview with Vulture, and you know
[40:06] Speaker 1: Christy McVie, who did pass away recently, very sadly, She
[40:09] Speaker 1: just gave an interview saying like, I don't really think
[40:11] Speaker 1: it's worth continuing the band without her. I mean, sure,
[40:15] Speaker 1: of course, and and all the but which is interesting though,
[40:19] Speaker 1: because they did actually for many many years, because Christy
[40:21] Speaker 1: mcvee left the band in nineteen ninety eight after that
[40:25] Speaker 1: hugely successful reunion tour called The Dance, remember right, and
[40:29] Speaker 1: she left the group, oh my god, for like fifteen
[40:34] Speaker 1: years or something like she reunite or however that math
[40:36] Speaker 1: checks out, because she reunited with them in twenty thirteen, okay,
[40:40] Speaker 1: and then they did obviously very successful tours with the
[40:43] Speaker 1: original lineup, you know, all five of them, And then
[40:47] Speaker 1: Lindsey Buckingham was sort of unceremoniously exiled from the band
[40:51] Speaker 1: in recent years.
[40:52] Speaker 3: I think that's right. I forgot that he was kicked out.
[40:54] Speaker 1: Yes, because I think he and I apparently what I
[40:57] Speaker 1: think was it like they were all getting some. It
[41:01] Speaker 1: wasn't the rock and roll Hall of Fame. It was
[41:02] Speaker 1: other some like big career achievement wor thing anyway. And
[41:05] Speaker 1: I guess the real straw that broke the camel's back
[41:08] Speaker 1: was when Stevie was giving her speech. Behind her, Lindsay
[41:11] Speaker 1: Buckingham pulled Christy mcfeed to like, kind of do this
[41:13] Speaker 1: little waltz in this little dance to kind of indicate
[41:15] Speaker 1: that like he thought she was taking too long, and
[41:18] Speaker 1: she was like, oh, I do not like that, of course,
[41:20] Speaker 1: and so that apparently instigated a major fight and then
[41:24] Speaker 1: he was out.
[41:24] Speaker 3: Skis the quitting, the firing like it. It feels like
[41:29] Speaker 3: they run it like an Rby's. It's like it doesn't
[41:31] Speaker 3: matter who's here, just in and out of.
[41:33] Speaker 1: It's a soap opera. No, it is a soap opera.
[41:35] Speaker 1: And also, by the way, this has happened both times
[41:37] Speaker 1: that Lindsay Buckingham has left the band, because it happened
[41:39] Speaker 1: just recently within the last handful of years, and it
[41:41] Speaker 1: did happen the first time in nineteen eighty seven he
[41:45] Speaker 1: left the band, and both times that he left, they
[41:47] Speaker 1: replaced him with two guitarists, which is a testament to
[41:50] Speaker 1: his ability that when one corson goes down, they have
[41:52] Speaker 1: to play some two people sign right yeah yeah right,
[41:55] Speaker 1: I mean listen. Do I think he is probably a
[41:58] Speaker 1: problematic person? Yes? Is he also very gifted and skilled
[42:02] Speaker 1: of what he does? Absolutely, as by the Tusk record
[42:06] Speaker 1: and many others.
[42:06] Speaker 3: Of course, you know what's your feeling when like a
[42:09] Speaker 3: favorite band breaks up for you?
[42:11] Speaker 1: I do you know? So funny? I already emerged into
[42:15] Speaker 1: my musical taste with so many of my favorite acts
[42:18] Speaker 1: kind of having like either pulled the brakes a little
[42:20] Speaker 1: bit on their career or like even with Fleetwood Mac,
[42:23] Speaker 1: it's like being we're together and now we're broken up,
[42:25] Speaker 1: or we're together we're broken up. But I will say
[42:27] Speaker 1: the first band slash group that I came up with
[42:31] Speaker 1: that when they disbanded, where it actually I like, it
[42:33] Speaker 1: felt like someone punched me in the stomach and I
[42:36] Speaker 1: realized this is gonna be very on the nose. Example,
[42:38] Speaker 1: but when the Spice Girls broke up, when not when
[42:43] Speaker 1: they broke up, but when Jerry left and Very left.
[42:45] Speaker 3: Yes, let's let's put it out there, Jerry left.
[42:48] Speaker 1: But also when the Spy girls broke up. I mean, like,
[42:50] Speaker 1: you know, let's be honest, like Jerry was the Spice Girls,
[42:54] Speaker 1: and like when she left, I remember being a small
[42:56] Speaker 1: child and I was devastated, like course devastated, and I
[43:01] Speaker 1: could not understand. And I also, you know, through your
[43:03] Speaker 1: child's mind, there are so many things that you're kind
[43:05] Speaker 1: of like not fully understanding or you don't have the
[43:06] Speaker 1: full picture of. So there was this picture of her
[43:09] Speaker 1: that was printed in my local newspaper, the Ottawa Citizen,
[43:12] Speaker 1: and she was like kind of just dressed up in
[43:14] Speaker 1: business casual where because she was really wanting to sort
[43:16] Speaker 1: of I guess Springboard sort of more charity work for
[43:21] Speaker 1: us and she's gunning for the UN or whatever exactly.
[43:24] Speaker 1: And that's where this picture was from. She was at
[43:26] Speaker 1: the u N and she was like dressing in this
[43:27] Speaker 1: business casual outfit. But I, as a child, I didn't
[43:29] Speaker 1: understand this. All I could think was, oh my god,
[43:32] Speaker 1: I cannot believe Ginger just let the Spice Girls go
[43:35] Speaker 1: work in an office. Like I was like, I can't
[43:37] Speaker 1: believe she's working in nine to five And I said
[43:40] Speaker 1: goodbye to international fame and stardom just so she could
[43:42] Speaker 1: work in a cubicle, Like, I really that is what
[43:44] Speaker 1: I thought, and I was so confused by it.
[43:48] Speaker 3: Yeah, I kind of remember having that same feeling. And
[43:50] Speaker 3: for me, when a band breaks up, there's just this
[43:52] Speaker 3: intense worry. It's not even a concern about there not
[43:55] Speaker 3: being more new music. It's like they're not friends anymore. Yeah,
[44:00] Speaker 3: friends aren't friends anymore, and I'm worried about what happened.
[44:02] Speaker 1: Yes, And also when you're a child, like there's something
[44:05] Speaker 1: so like, I don't know, when you're a little kid,
[44:08] Speaker 1: you think the things that you like are gonna be
[44:10] Speaker 1: that way forever. Of course, we're gonna keep going and
[44:12] Speaker 1: going and going. And then when when it's not, I mean,
[44:15] Speaker 1: it's devastating immortality. Not well, ain't that the damn truths?
[44:20] Speaker 1: I mean, and not to the same degree, but I
[44:21] Speaker 1: did have a similar ish feeling. When S Club seven
[44:23] Speaker 1: broke up. I was like, also, let this be a
[44:26] Speaker 1: sign of the times, because I think two of the
[44:27] Speaker 1: members have been like this is so like nothing now,
[44:30] Speaker 1: but like they were caught smoking pot. They were like
[44:32] Speaker 1: these young twenty somethings and they were caught smoking pot.
[44:34] Speaker 1: But me, like nine years old, I was like, I
[44:37] Speaker 1: don't know.
[44:37] Speaker 5: Why they're trying to ruin what they've built. I was like,
[44:40] Speaker 5: they're all gonna get caught, like, oh have done drugs.
[44:43] Speaker 5: They're gonna die from pot like I was. So, I
[44:45] Speaker 5: was really legitimately devastated. The irony being that I would
[44:49] Speaker 5: grow to love a band like Fleetwood Mac who literally
[44:51] Speaker 5: was funneled by drugs for the better part of fifteen years.
[44:54] Speaker 3: Break up upon break up upon breakup, Yes, just torturous relationship.
[45:00] Speaker 3: Do you own a lot of records?
[45:01] Speaker 1: Well, I wouldn't say a lot, But also famously I
[45:05] Speaker 1: don't own a record player. I just like, because I'm
[45:08] Speaker 1: also that person, I'm like, no, no, this, I'm such an idiot.
[45:11] Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm gonna buy one. I'm always like, I
[45:13] Speaker 1: am gonna buy one, and I'm gonna set the money
[45:14] Speaker 1: aside and I'm gonna do it. And when you know what,
[45:16] Speaker 1: here I am thirty two years young still have not
[45:19] Speaker 1: made that purchase.
[45:20] Speaker 3: It's a I can't open that door. That's the reason,
[45:22] Speaker 3: Like I think, the moment I own a record player,
[45:24] Speaker 3: my home will be destroyed.
[45:25] Speaker 1: I just get too many records I will.
[45:27] Speaker 3: I mean, it'll just records, records everywhere. And I did
[45:31] Speaker 3: that with books a long time ago, and then I
[45:32] Speaker 3: moved to New York and I realized I can't keep
[45:34] Speaker 3: buying these. Well, and now I'm kind of turning the
[45:36] Speaker 3: corner because of you know, the Internet is not letting
[45:39] Speaker 3: us own anything, and we should probably own as many
[45:41] Speaker 3: physical things as we can before that question kind of
[45:44] Speaker 3: claw them away from us.
[45:45] Speaker 1: That before the grid goes down.
[45:46] Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, I'm a that's the reason I don't own
[45:50] Speaker 3: a record player.
[45:51] Speaker 1: Well, I also and this is a real testament to
[45:53] Speaker 1: my laziness, but I'm sorry to say, I do love
[45:57] Speaker 1: just listening to an album through without having to get up.
[46:00] Speaker 3: Oh sure there.
[46:01] Speaker 1: Is something really nice. Yeah, I mean about bluetoothing a
[46:04] Speaker 1: speaker to your phone, opening up title, and then away
[46:07] Speaker 1: we go.
[46:08] Speaker 3: It is amazing what the human mind is able to
[46:10] Speaker 3: become lazy about almost immediately, like yep, not wanting to
[46:14] Speaker 3: get up to put a CD in or a DVD
[46:16] Speaker 3: or to change the channel. Curse things seem the TV's
[46:20] Speaker 3: like miles away at this point.
[46:21] Speaker 1: Yes, And that's how I feel about a record player,
[46:23] Speaker 1: where I'm like, and also, each quote unquote side of
[46:27] Speaker 1: a record is like what twenty minutes I'm getting up.
[46:31] Speaker 3: This is really twenty minutes. It's got to be a
[46:33] Speaker 3: half hour.
[46:34] Speaker 1: Most records go like forty five minutes at the longest.
[46:37] Speaker 3: Wow.
[46:38] Speaker 1: So then and math tells me, if you split that
[46:40] Speaker 1: in two, that's approximately twenty some odd minutes per side.
[46:43] Speaker 1: So I'm like every twenty minutes I'm getting up. Oh
[46:45] Speaker 1: I don't think so.
[46:46] Speaker 3: Oh you're out of breath, you're sweating.
[46:48] Speaker 1: Listen. Done a lot for me, but it has not
[46:52] Speaker 1: at all incentivized me to want to get up to
[46:53] Speaker 1: change the record the strength. No, I don't have it.
[46:56] Speaker 1: And also, if we're being honest, am I listening to
[46:59] Speaker 1: music while maybe like pretty deep into an edible?
[47:02] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you're stuck to the floor.
[47:05] Speaker 1: Absolutely, I'm horizontals Well, I always say, like there is
[47:08] Speaker 1: a edible or not. There does come a point in
[47:11] Speaker 1: the day, and it's pretty early, by the way, where
[47:13] Speaker 1: I do just need to be horizontal. Like if I'm
[47:16] Speaker 1: being entirely honest, like beyond five pm, it's kind of
[47:20] Speaker 1: like no, no go for me. Like I'm indoors and
[47:22] Speaker 1: I like I'm really living like my FDR fantasy. There's
[47:25] Speaker 1: a blanket over my lap. I'm sitting down like you
[47:26] Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like, I just really I want
[47:29] Speaker 1: to be You're.
[47:29] Speaker 3: In kind of one of those basket wheelchairs, ye, woven wheelchair.
[47:33] Speaker 1: I have a lovely woman pushing me around. You know.
[47:36] Speaker 1: It's funny. Even before I started like enjoying the occasional edible,
[47:40] Speaker 1: I think I already had stoner mindset because my my
[47:43] Speaker 1: mo constantly is just like I want to be, like
[47:47] Speaker 1: the most comfortable I could possibly be, Like.
[47:49] Speaker 3: That is you're in your home.
[47:51] Speaker 1: Yes, But I think like but to a degree where
[47:53] Speaker 1: I will, like I won't get up to change the record,
[47:56] Speaker 1: Like that's what I'm saying. Like I think there are
[47:58] Speaker 1: people who understand, like, oh, in place, like I'm going
[48:01] Speaker 1: to get up now, and I need to there's business
[48:02] Speaker 1: attend to. But like when I decide that I'm done,
[48:05] Speaker 1: I'm done. I'm done. Remember I'm ordering donuts to my apartment.
[48:11] Speaker 3: It's an obvious lifestyle.
[48:13] Speaker 1: Are you?
[48:14] Speaker 3: Are you getting up? I'm moving things around. I'm never
[48:16] Speaker 3: quite at ease, are you?
[48:18] Speaker 1: Would you describe yourself as being a jittery person.
[48:20] Speaker 3: I'm not jittery unless you know, of course, caffeine levels
[48:23] Speaker 3: go through the roof and then my throwing up in
[48:27] Speaker 3: the gutter. A lot of problems are happening for me.
[48:30] Speaker 3: I am an anxious person, right, so maybe that's kind
[48:34] Speaker 3: of driving it. I don't know.
[48:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, you have well, because here's the thing. As a
[48:37] Speaker 1: I mean, I still have my anxiety, but I definitely
[48:39] Speaker 1: am far less anxious than I used to be. So
[48:43] Speaker 1: as a person who also used to be very tightly wound,
[48:45] Speaker 1: I relate to this feeling.
[48:47] Speaker 3: Can I ask you? You've said F forty five several times,
[48:50] Speaker 3: and I follow you on Instagram, so I see it
[48:51] Speaker 3: on occasion, But I don't understand what F forty five is.
[48:56] Speaker 3: It's F forty five, yes. Is it like a boot
[49:00] Speaker 3: camp situation? No?
[49:01] Speaker 1: So F the F for forty five stands for functional.
[49:04] Speaker 1: Oh okay, basically is like functional fitness, and then forty
[49:07] Speaker 1: five because the classes are only forty five minutes.
[49:09] Speaker 3: Oh oh, it's all right there in the title.
[49:10] Speaker 1: It's all right, it's in the name, and it's just
[49:13] Speaker 1: like it's a hit workouts and you just kind of
[49:16] Speaker 1: do this little circuit for forty five minutes, you push
[49:18] Speaker 1: your body to its limit, and then you go home.
[49:20] Speaker 3: Wow.
[49:21] Speaker 1: And so it oscillates between you'll do some days that
[49:24] Speaker 1: are cardio Okay, you do some days at our strength
[49:26] Speaker 1: and then deva, wouldn't you know it? Every so often
[49:28] Speaker 1: you do a day that's both and so uh it's
[49:31] Speaker 1: a real combo situation. So I and I, by the way,
[49:34] Speaker 1: always I was so sure I would never be a
[49:36] Speaker 1: person that would enjoy any form of physical fitness. And
[49:39] Speaker 1: I'm sorry to say, and I know, I'm like, this
[49:41] Speaker 1: is really me going against my former self. I love it,
[49:45] Speaker 1: love it.
[49:46] Speaker 3: Are they playing music? Hell? Yes, what kind of music?
[49:49] Speaker 3: This is a big problem?
[49:50] Speaker 1: Well no, can I tell you why? I also love
[49:52] Speaker 1: the location that I go to is because like all
[49:54] Speaker 1: the trainers there are straight, but they play gay music.
[49:57] Speaker 3: Oh okay, the well, my the current trainers play decent music.
[50:01] Speaker 3: But I had to leave a trainer because he was
[50:04] Speaker 3: playing corn and also trying to talk to me about
[50:07] Speaker 3: Joe Roganna nevery every turn. I'm now already mad working out.
[50:11] Speaker 3: I don't need more reasons to be angry.
[50:13] Speaker 1: No, let me tell you there is and I'm actually
[50:15] Speaker 1: gonna gi him ahodout right now. His name is Olivier.
[50:17] Speaker 1: He's a trainer at my gem. Again, straight as an arrow,
[50:21] Speaker 1: But you had best believe at five thirty in the morning,
[50:23] Speaker 1: he will blast Kylie Minogue's Padam and then when we're
[50:28] Speaker 1: finished the class for the cool down, he dims all
[50:30] Speaker 1: the lights and one not he puts on Shania Twins.
[50:33] Speaker 1: You're still the one? Are you kidding me?
[50:36] Speaker 3: A dream?
[50:36] Speaker 1: And I say to him every day I go Olivier,
[50:38] Speaker 1: I want you to know something. You are the embodiment
[50:41] Speaker 1: of all.
[50:42] Speaker 3: He's gonna come out to you, I hope. So he's
[50:45] Speaker 3: just waiting for the right time.
[50:46] Speaker 1: He You know, what can I say that would so
[50:49] Speaker 1: not be off base for me. The amount of straightmen
[50:51] Speaker 1: that I felt comfortable over the course of my life
[50:53] Speaker 1: letting me know about any sexual proclivities they have is staggering.
[50:56] Speaker 1: This is absolutely true. I went to my I mentioned
[50:59] Speaker 1: that I went to your friends birthday party a few
[51:01] Speaker 1: days ago. Within five minutes of this person showing up,
[51:05] Speaker 1: he was like, letting it be known that he really
[51:07] Speaker 1: wanted to make out with me.
[51:09] Speaker 3: Oh wow.
[51:10] Speaker 1: And then later he was like, oh, well I can't,
[51:11] Speaker 1: and I was like, oh why, and he's like I
[51:13] Speaker 1: have a girlfriend. And I was like I what, how, how?
[51:20] Speaker 3: And why what time of day this? For whatever reason,
[51:24] Speaker 3: I'm picturing afternoon? No, he was like it's in the evening. Yeah, yeah,
[51:28] Speaker 3: I would, but like also not hideously late. I would
[51:31] Speaker 3: say like nine or ten, and he was just getting
[51:33] Speaker 3: into it five minutes in to say that.
[51:36] Speaker 1: There was a spark as an understatement Wow yes, yes, wow.
[51:40] Speaker 1: And I was like, oh my god, we're going to
[51:41] Speaker 1: make out and then he was like, well, actually we
[51:43] Speaker 1: can't because because here's how we he gave me all
[51:45] Speaker 1: the information. He goes, oh, we can't because actually I know.
[51:49] Speaker 1: I didn't realize this was gonna happen, but I actually
[51:50] Speaker 1: am meeting someone later and I was like, oh my god,
[51:52] Speaker 1: no problem, and I'm like, obviously I'm smart. So I
[51:54] Speaker 1: was like, I'm going to be here for longer. And
[51:57] Speaker 1: then he's like, I don't know, like we're not. And
[52:00] Speaker 1: I was like, what girl, Like I can't do this
[52:04] Speaker 1: dance with you? This is I can't. I can't hold
[52:07] Speaker 1: your hand through your life.
[52:09] Speaker 3: To go from being that direct to this wishy washy.
[52:12] Speaker 1: Can I say you know what? I think? It also
[52:13] Speaker 1: was he's a male improviser and okay, well, and I
[52:17] Speaker 1: think it's a little also like yes, he was interested,
[52:19] Speaker 1: but also it was a little like him just yes, sanding,
[52:22] Speaker 1: does that make sense like.
[52:23] Speaker 3: Well, it sounds like him saying well, maybe, oh, an
[52:25] Speaker 3: app that's a good improv technique that people should embrace,
[52:29] Speaker 3: just kind of not making any decisions on stage.
[52:31] Speaker 1: Well, and you know what, as Elaine May used to
[52:33] Speaker 1: say when in doubt Seduce, she always used to say
[52:36] Speaker 1: that if you're in a scene and you don't know
[52:37] Speaker 1: where it goes, seduce and you know what, maybe that's
[52:39] Speaker 1: exactly what he was doing. He's like, I don't really
[52:41] Speaker 1: quite know what to do here, so you know what,
[52:42] Speaker 1: let's make out. And then I said okay. And then
[52:43] Speaker 1: he was like, well, and I thought, okay, A nightmare,
[52:48] Speaker 1: A nightmare.
[52:49] Speaker 3: We got to play a game.
[52:50] Speaker 1: What shall we play?
[52:51] Speaker 3: We're playing, don't tell me we're playing Gift Master. I've
[52:56] Speaker 3: gone so good at this on Alias. I've become a professional.
[52:59] Speaker 3: It's amazing. Liam. I need a number between one and
[53:02] Speaker 3: ten from you.
[53:03] Speaker 1: I'm gonna choose seven.
[53:04] Speaker 3: Okay, I have to do my life calculating right now.
[53:07] Speaker 3: You can promote to recommend, do whatever you want with
[53:09] Speaker 3: the microphone.
[53:10] Speaker 1: I'll be right back, okay. Listeners of apparently a podcast
[53:14] Speaker 1: called I Said No Gifts Boy, was I'm mistaken about
[53:17] Speaker 1: that title? If you have enjoyed even an iota of
[53:21] Speaker 1: what you've heard so far, you can follow me across
[53:23] Speaker 1: all socials at Liam Garrow. I also have a brand
[53:27] Speaker 1: new podcast that maybe mister Bridger Weineger himself will be
[53:31] Speaker 1: guesting on Excuse Me, Excuse Me, And so that show
[53:35] Speaker 1: is called tell Me Everything. It's where guests come on,
[53:38] Speaker 1: such as Bridger and they're going to bring on their
[53:40] Speaker 1: favorite things from pop culture and just kind of riff
[53:41] Speaker 1: about it and tell me why they like it so much.
[53:44] Speaker 1: And if you want to keep up to date with
[53:45] Speaker 1: that show, you can follow my show's Instagram page at
[53:49] Speaker 1: tell Liam Everything. And if you listen to Tell Me
[53:52] Speaker 1: Everything and enjoy it, I would rate and review and
[53:54] Speaker 1: subscribe to that pod, because god knows it makes a
[53:56] Speaker 1: huge difference.
[53:57] Speaker 3: Of course, everyone follow those directions. So that was excellent.
[54:01] Speaker 3: Thank you. Really that felt like you had copy in
[54:03] Speaker 3: front of.
[54:04] Speaker 1: You and wanted something I didn't. Anyone know how I
[54:06] Speaker 1: know I didn't because I know already there are a
[54:08] Speaker 1: few things I forgot to say. But that's fine.
[54:09] Speaker 3: Is this something you need to say?
[54:11] Speaker 1: Oh? Well, just that we have some wonderful guests on
[54:13] Speaker 1: the show, and by this point, by the time everyone's listened,
[54:17] Speaker 1: fabulous comedian growed fairly, we'll have been on the show
[54:20] Speaker 1: and also just around the court, either just around the
[54:22] Speaker 1: corner or maybe an episode that has just dropped Paul F.
[54:25] Speaker 1: Tompkins and Tompkins, Oh we love both of them. Adorable
[54:28] Speaker 1: And by the time I think this episode goes wide,
[54:31] Speaker 1: I think your episode is like a week away.
[54:33] Speaker 3: Oh my god coming down. Anticipation is building. People are
[54:37] Speaker 3: freaking out.
[54:37] Speaker 1: And I'm not just saying this to say to you.
[54:39] Speaker 1: You were gorgeous to talk to you. I had so
[54:42] Speaker 1: much fun, you were so great.
[54:44] Speaker 3: I uh, well, we'll see how the wider public feels.
[54:48] Speaker 3: They might burn me down.
[54:49] Speaker 1: We've had to edit a lot of it out, but
[54:50] Speaker 1: I mean, God bless So now walk me through this game.
[54:53] Speaker 3: Okay, Gift Master, this is how we play. I'm gonna
[54:55] Speaker 3: name three gifts, okay, and I'm gonna name three celebrities. Yep,
[54:58] Speaker 3: You're gonna tell me which gift you can you'll give,
[55:00] Speaker 3: which celebrity and why. Okay, that makes perfect sense. Yes,
[55:04] Speaker 3: this doesn't need to be repeated.
[55:05] Speaker 1: Nope.
[55:05] Speaker 3: Okay, these are the three gifts you'll be giving today.
[55:07] Speaker 3: Number one, a golden lockett. That's a nice little gift. Okay.
[55:10] Speaker 3: Number two singing lessons, that's not a bad gift. Those
[55:14] Speaker 3: are expensive. Number three a good scare, so that you'll
[55:18] Speaker 3: be giving them a good scare. And the celebrities are
[55:21] Speaker 3: number one Russell Crowe, okay, Number two Barbara Hershey, this
[55:26] Speaker 3: is list. This is a good list, and number three
[55:29] Speaker 3: Haruki Murakami. Are you familiar Japanese author? That's all you
[55:33] Speaker 3: need to know? Okay, excellent Japanese author.
[55:36] Speaker 1: Okay, I'm gonna get can I say I already know?
[55:39] Speaker 3: Okay? Great.
[55:41] Speaker 1: I'm giving the lockett to the author because and I'll
[55:43] Speaker 1: tell you why, because I feel like so much of
[55:45] Speaker 1: writing is such like an insular kind of like not
[55:49] Speaker 1: always like super appreciated profession. So to be able to
[55:53] Speaker 1: give some again, to echo your sentiment about having something
[55:55] Speaker 1: that's tangible before the grid goes down, Like imagine gifting
[55:58] Speaker 1: someone or just little lockett and being like, thank you
[56:02] Speaker 1: for your work, even though I have no idea who
[56:03] Speaker 1: you are.
[56:04] Speaker 3: You know, like I think that the lockett is a
[56:06] Speaker 3: great it's kind of a like an elevated candle gift. Yes,
[56:09] Speaker 3: it's like I don't really know anything, but this is
[56:11] Speaker 3: beautiful and you can do whatever you want.
[56:13] Speaker 1: And also, if someone gave me a lockett, I'm like,
[56:15] Speaker 1: are we literally meeting in hundreds? And are you about
[56:16] Speaker 1: to marry me? Because I will say yes, I'm gonna
[56:20] Speaker 1: give a good was that a good scare?
[56:21] Speaker 3: A good scare?
[56:22] Speaker 1: Diva? You know, I'm giving that to Barbara Hershey because
[56:25] Speaker 1: I just you know, I I want her to I
[56:27] Speaker 1: want her to feel like, at this phase of her
[56:28] Speaker 1: life she can still be surprised, because you know, sometimes
[56:31] Speaker 1: when we get older, we have the sense of we
[56:32] Speaker 1: we again, we know our ritual, we know our routine,
[56:35] Speaker 1: we have a sense of who we are. But imagine,
[56:37] Speaker 1: imagine Barbara Hershey. She thinks she's all just snug and
[56:41] Speaker 1: tucked away living. God knows where we're doing, God knows
[56:44] Speaker 1: what well I mean, Barbara, reach out, Barbara. We'd love
[56:48] Speaker 1: to have you on the pods and and so I
[56:51] Speaker 1: just think it'd be fun. And I don't want to
[56:53] Speaker 1: I don't want it to be too scary. I don't
[56:54] Speaker 1: want her to be like, you know, I don't want
[56:56] Speaker 1: there to be any sort of you know, medical incident. Okay, okay,
[56:58] Speaker 1: but I just imagine, just mean jumping out of you know,
[57:00] Speaker 1: out of a bush maybe and just going like huzzah,
[57:03] Speaker 1: and then her going like oh. And then and then
[57:05] Speaker 1: I'm like, Barbara, it was a gift from Bridger. And
[57:07] Speaker 1: then she's like that bridge she's already writing the thank
[57:09] Speaker 1: you note. Absolutely, she's running to her desk. And here's
[57:13] Speaker 1: the thing. If any of us saw Le miserabla, I
[57:16] Speaker 1: think we absolutely know that Russell Crowe just needs that
[57:22] Speaker 1: singing lesson, because here's the thing. Here's what I appreciate
[57:24] Speaker 1: about the vocal. I love the attack. Okay, he knows
[57:28] Speaker 1: does he does he have the greatest voice? No? And
[57:30] Speaker 1: does that hold him back?
[57:31] Speaker 3: No?
[57:31] Speaker 1: And that's actually really powerful that he still hops on
[57:34] Speaker 1: that mic and gives it his all. He doesn't sing
[57:37] Speaker 1: with his diaphragm at all. It's coming straight from his throat,
[57:40] Speaker 1: which is in itself so powerful. And I think we
[57:43] Speaker 1: can agree a choice. But like to me, I just think, like,
[57:46] Speaker 1: imagine if you took that fervor had the foundation of
[57:50] Speaker 1: a technique and there it is technique and skill, and
[57:54] Speaker 1: then he could truly be unstoppable. I mean, apparently he's
[57:57] Speaker 1: done quite well for himself. This is what I hear
[57:59] Speaker 1: but I still.
[58:00] Speaker 3: Think like he's on a downhill slide. And imagine Russell
[58:03] Speaker 3: reach out.
[58:04] Speaker 1: And imagine if out of nowhere, how about this as
[58:06] Speaker 1: as like a scenario because everyone is kind of like
[58:09] Speaker 1: shit talking is singing from limz right. Imagine if out
[58:12] Speaker 1: of Nowhere he did like a Broadway musical and everyone
[58:14] Speaker 1: was kind of prepared for him to be like, oh god,
[58:16] Speaker 1: this is gonna be good Russell Crowe. But if secretly
[58:19] Speaker 1: he'd been taking intense voice lessons for a year and
[58:22] Speaker 1: then he just and then he just emerged on the
[58:24] Speaker 1: stage like what our generation's fucking Mandy Patinkin. I mean,
[58:29] Speaker 1: no one could be Mandy Patinkin and also use different
[58:33] Speaker 1: you know, think who was the original guy in Le
[58:36] Speaker 1: miz Uh? He was an also French Canadian?
[58:41] Speaker 3: Oh interesting fact? Was it his final role? No?
[58:45] Speaker 1: And I want to say he played Valjean. But anyway,
[58:48] Speaker 1: but I'm a very similar kind of like baritone deep
[58:50] Speaker 1: voice typing to a Russell Crowe. So imagine if he
[58:52] Speaker 1: emerged as him. There are so many theater nerds that
[58:55] Speaker 1: are screaming his name at me right now. Of course,
[58:58] Speaker 1: I mean they are going to the ball, I know,
[59:01] Speaker 1: I know, but you know what, I can tell that
[59:02] Speaker 1: Analie is doing a fervent Google's the browse furrowed, her
[59:07] Speaker 1: glasses are sliding down her nose. She is ready to go.
[59:10] Speaker 3: I mean, this would change Russell Crowe's career in the
[59:13] Speaker 3: biggest possible way.
[59:14] Speaker 1: That's what happens with so many actors. They do like
[59:17] Speaker 1: once they arguably even though he never had like a
[59:19] Speaker 1: dip in popularity, but like, even like a Daniel Radcliffe,
[59:22] Speaker 1: he got like such a big push when he didn't
[59:25] Speaker 1: when he showed his wang on stage in equist and
[59:27] Speaker 1: then when he did how to succeed in business not
[59:29] Speaker 1: really trying, and now he's on Broadway again with I.
[59:33] Speaker 3: Feel like he's making a very smart career.
[59:35] Speaker 1: Moves one thousand percent. And also what I love about
[59:38] Speaker 1: him too is like it didn't take him a beat,
[59:40] Speaker 1: nothing at all. The second JK Rowley came out with
[59:43] Speaker 1: her transphobic bullshit, Daniel Radcliffe incredible. Daniel Radcliffe was also like,
[59:47] Speaker 1: so that's not right, and I was like, so absolutely
[59:52] Speaker 1: it's isn't it so easy to be plugged into your humanity.
[59:54] Speaker 3: Just say things that are true yep, and that are decent. Absolutely, Yeah,
[1:00:00] Speaker 3: we love him, and we could love Russell Russell, take
[1:00:04] Speaker 3: the lesson.
[1:00:04] Speaker 1: Take the lesson, and we would love to. And if
[1:00:06] Speaker 1: you're serious, Russell, I'm gonna say this to you. If
[1:00:09] Speaker 1: you're listening, and if.
[1:00:10] Speaker 3: You're serious, he is, he's left a review.
[1:00:12] Speaker 1: If you're serious, we're serious. And if you really are
[1:00:14] Speaker 1: serious about your commitment to your voice, I'm sorry, I'm
[1:00:16] Speaker 1: looping you into this bridge and I will co sign
[1:00:18] Speaker 1: and pay for your voice.
[1:00:19] Speaker 3: We'll finance the lesson.
[1:00:20] Speaker 1: We absolutely will up to up to fifty dollars an absolutely, absolutely,
[1:00:26] Speaker 1: and fifty Canadian dollars also Canadian.
[1:00:29] Speaker 3: Yeah, so like actually, I can't do the math of.
[1:00:32] Speaker 1: How that would work the proxim with sixty five American dollars.
[1:00:35] Speaker 3: Sixty five American dollars. I always hate to see that.
[1:00:37] Speaker 3: The Canadian price, and then in a book cover always
[1:00:40] Speaker 3: hurts my.
[1:00:40] Speaker 1: Heart because you're like, god, it could be that, huh yeah,
[1:00:43] Speaker 1: And then here I am, like with literal like durda
[1:00:46] Speaker 1: my face, paying an American price for a book, being like, well,
[1:00:48] Speaker 1: i feel like I'm being robbed blind.
[1:00:51] Speaker 3: Okay, excellently played, beautifully played, thank you, I mean the
[1:00:54] Speaker 3: pieces and you don't even know who Haruki is so like,
[1:00:57] Speaker 3: you nailed it.
[1:00:58] Speaker 1: Thank you. I listen. I realized it the game. But
[1:01:00] Speaker 1: also I didn't come here to play. Does that make sense?
[1:01:02] Speaker 3: Like, okay, do you have an answer on a Lisa
[1:01:06] Speaker 3: And it's fine if you don't.
[1:01:07] Speaker 4: I don't know if he was the original one, but
[1:01:09] Speaker 4: I did find a French Canadian actor named Oh gosh,
[1:01:11] Speaker 4: I am I gonna butcher this a little bit, well as
[1:01:14] Speaker 4: I am, I mean a little bit. This is Marian
[1:01:20] Speaker 4: m A R I E n.
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: No Ziva girl. Hang on Google, okay, Google, okay, hang
[1:01:28] Speaker 1: on here.
[1:01:28] Speaker 3: Also Colem Wilkinson. There we go Comb Wilkinson. Yes, c
[1:01:33] Speaker 3: O M B c O L m oh Comb.
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: I think that's what I was thinking of. Okay, is
[1:01:39] Speaker 1: the French Canadian watch? I like totally center down the
[1:01:42] Speaker 1: wrong rabbit.
[1:01:43] Speaker 3: Hole a little little song while I sing while I
[1:01:47] Speaker 3: find it. Let's see. Sorry, this is we don't need
[1:01:53] Speaker 3: to know?
[1:01:53] Speaker 1: Yes you do, I actually do. Because here's the thing.
[1:01:56] Speaker 1: If I was a podcast listener, and if I didn't
[1:01:57] Speaker 1: find out if Cole Wilkinson's nationality.
[1:02:00] Speaker 3: Irish Irish Wilkinson, of course, okay, then I'm obviously also
[1:02:04] Speaker 3: thinking of a different actor here's the thing, guys, my
[1:02:07] Speaker 3: Uber ride with Michael really threw me for a tizzy.
[1:02:10] Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know left from right, up
[1:02:12] Speaker 1: from down, Irish from Canadian. I mean, I'm obviously just
[1:02:15] Speaker 1: on one.
[1:02:15] Speaker 3: We've got to answer a listener question.
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: Let's do it.
[1:02:18] Speaker 3: This is the final segment of the podcast. It's called
[1:02:20] Speaker 3: I said no emails, and.
[1:02:24] Speaker 1: If I may, are people having the audacity to send
[1:02:26] Speaker 1: you an email?
[1:02:27] Speaker 3: They're sending emails I said no gifts at gmail dot com.
[1:02:30] Speaker 3: I mean being it's overloaded with requests and questions and problems.
[1:02:36] Speaker 1: Ludicrous.
[1:02:36] Speaker 3: They're asking me to step into their lives and you know,
[1:02:39] Speaker 3: correct or answer questions for them. Will you helpe me
[1:02:42] Speaker 3: answer a question?
[1:02:43] Speaker 1: Of course?
[1:02:44] Speaker 3: Okay, let's read this. It says, dear Bridge, you're a friend,
[1:02:47] Speaker 3: that's me. What would you give a person who refuses
[1:02:50] Speaker 3: to accept money for their time and talent? And how
[1:02:53] Speaker 3: do you value an active kindness in order to reciprocate
[1:02:56] Speaker 3: it appropriately? My acupuncture mentor won't accept payment for tutoring
[1:03:01] Speaker 3: lessons and undercharges me for treatments when anyone asks for
[1:03:04] Speaker 3: acupuncturist or herbalist recommendation. This person is of course my
[1:03:08] Speaker 3: number one choice, but it doesn't feel like enough. I
[1:03:11] Speaker 3: could just start supplying her with freshly baked bread and
[1:03:13] Speaker 3: other culinary treats, but again, I feel my debt is
[1:03:16] Speaker 3: far greater than a bit of flour and water? Am
[1:03:18] Speaker 3: I being weirdly capitalist about this? How will I know
[1:03:21] Speaker 3: when I've done enough without giving the impression that I'm
[1:03:24] Speaker 3: asking for more and thus perpetuating the cycle? What would
[1:03:27] Speaker 3: you do in such a situation? With sincere gratitude? And
[1:03:30] Speaker 3: this person has not left in their name, they just
[1:03:32] Speaker 3: said basic broke Berliner, a German is amongst us.
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: There are two things I want to say, Okay, One,
[1:03:38] Speaker 1: if you are already having a way to send money
[1:03:40] Speaker 1: to this person, just send them the amount that you
[1:03:42] Speaker 1: want to send them.
[1:03:44] Speaker 3: Interesting, so like so for you, they're trapped in this
[1:03:47] Speaker 3: toxic situation with their mentor.
[1:03:48] Speaker 1: So, first of all, to this broke berlinner, if this
[1:03:52] Speaker 1: is not your situation, I'm sorry. But if you are
[1:03:54] Speaker 1: already paying some stipends to this person, I'm going to
[1:03:57] Speaker 1: assume there's already some kind point of payment situation that
[1:04:01] Speaker 1: you have said up right, yes, so just send them
[1:04:06] Speaker 1: the amount that you want to give them. Then and
[1:04:08] Speaker 1: then just follow up with a note of like, let's
[1:04:10] Speaker 1: say let's say they're charging you fifty and you want
[1:04:12] Speaker 1: to give them a hundred. The note that you send
[1:04:14] Speaker 1: with that one hundred dollars that you want to give
[1:04:15] Speaker 1: them is I'm not having a conversation about this.
[1:04:18] Speaker 3: But now this is what I have to say. Does
[1:04:20] Speaker 3: that then turn the mentor into an employee? No, I
[1:04:26] Speaker 3: feel like the cut rate is like, well, we're friends,
[1:04:30] Speaker 3: so the moment we're paying market rate, suddenly we're just
[1:04:35] Speaker 3: in business together.
[1:04:36] Speaker 1: Well, I have something that The other part of the
[1:04:39] Speaker 1: thing that I was going to suggest is if this
[1:04:42] Speaker 1: mentor of yours is also going to really be because
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: here's what you also don't want to do. If someone's
[1:04:46] Speaker 1: going to really assert themselves in saying like this is
[1:04:49] Speaker 1: the rate I'm giving you your friend or your you know,
[1:04:53] Speaker 1: my protege blah blah blah blah blah. You don't want
[1:04:56] Speaker 1: someone to then go through the emotional labor of them
[1:04:59] Speaker 1: having to like constantly be like no, no, no, please, no,
[1:05:02] Speaker 1: don't give me that. So you know what I would do,
[1:05:05] Speaker 1: So one of two things, Either you pay that forward
[1:05:08] Speaker 1: to the next person where you go, you know, what
[1:05:10] Speaker 1: someone did me the solid and kind of I knew
[1:05:12] Speaker 1: they were under charging me and they were doing me
[1:05:14] Speaker 1: a solid. So I'm going to do that for someone else.
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: Oh that's very sweet, And I'm gonna I'm going to
[1:05:18] Speaker 1: pick a person who I think is maybe struggling financially,
[1:05:23] Speaker 1: or maybe maybe they're not struggling fantasy, but maybe they
[1:05:25] Speaker 1: have a real kind of like passion for what it
[1:05:26] Speaker 1: is they're doing. And you want to reward that by
[1:05:28] Speaker 1: being like, I see the direction you're going in, and
[1:05:30] Speaker 1: so the thing that I would like to gift to
[1:05:32] Speaker 1: you is this thing that someone gifted to me. It's
[1:05:34] Speaker 1: kind of pass paying it forward. The other thing I
[1:05:36] Speaker 1: would say, if you do have this kind of like
[1:05:38] Speaker 1: pseudo friend relationship with this mentor, pick up the billet dinner.
[1:05:42] Speaker 1: It's so easy, it's so easy.
[1:05:45] Speaker 3: Easy, easy. Yes, I mean here's what I'll say.
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: Go ahead.
[1:05:48] Speaker 3: This mentor obviously has some sort of hold on Berlin
[1:05:53] Speaker 3: or some sort of control. There's a definite power imbalance. Yeah,
[1:05:59] Speaker 3: I said it before, or I'll say it again. It's toxic. Okay,
[1:06:02] Speaker 3: it's inescapable.
[1:06:03] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:06:03] Speaker 3: The Berliner obviously can't say no to discount rates, No,
[1:06:08] Speaker 3: and therefore cannot escape. So what I'm gonna say is
[1:06:13] Speaker 3: this is an opportunity for Berliner to take advantage of someone.
[1:06:16] Speaker 3: Oh you're already doing it, okay, So just keep pushing
[1:06:21] Speaker 3: the gas. You don't need to be baking bread. You
[1:06:24] Speaker 3: don't need to be giving gifts. You know. The mentor
[1:06:27] Speaker 3: is getting whatever they want out of this this little
[1:06:30] Speaker 3: power dynamic. They're loving it. Okay, that's the gift for them.
[1:06:33] Speaker 1: I just want everyone to know Bridger is also stroking
[1:06:35] Speaker 1: a small white cat in his lap as he's devising
[1:06:38] Speaker 1: this plan. Go ahead.
[1:06:39] Speaker 3: Uh, that's all I have to say the mentor, any gift,
[1:06:44] Speaker 3: would it be too much for this person? And it would?
[1:06:46] Speaker 3: They would not like it. They love they love Berliner
[1:06:50] Speaker 3: kind of being in their clutches. That's the payment.
[1:06:54] Speaker 1: You think the mentor is slightly evil?
[1:06:56] Speaker 3: I think completely this. This acupuncturist. I've never heard of
[1:07:01] Speaker 3: one before, but now I know. Hmm, And of course
[1:07:04] Speaker 3: they exist, and I have to now assume they're all manipulators.
[1:07:09] Speaker 1: Well, they in a way kind of are, because they're
[1:07:12] Speaker 1: jabbing needles into your body that are making you feel
[1:07:14] Speaker 1: things and helping and helping the emotions rise to the surface.
[1:07:17] Speaker 3: True, So they have a knowledge, your working knowledge of manipulation.
[1:07:21] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, okay, I would say, yeah, Berlinard, I'm gonna
[1:07:25] Speaker 1: say some of you right now. I really appreciate that
[1:07:29] Speaker 1: you want to pay this forward and you want to
[1:07:32] Speaker 1: do right and you want to be a good person,
[1:07:34] Speaker 1: and that's all very nice, But do you want to
[1:07:35] Speaker 1: know what's really exhausting if I was your mentor is
[1:07:39] Speaker 1: whatever this conversation is. So they don't they don't want
[1:07:42] Speaker 1: to accept it, and you've exerted, You've extended the offer,
[1:07:45] Speaker 1: they've refused it, and so you just you leave it
[1:07:48] Speaker 1: alone and again you then pay forward that as bridgerould
[1:07:51] Speaker 1: call it manipulation to someone else, or you just pick
[1:07:54] Speaker 1: up the tab when you go for dinner and just
[1:07:55] Speaker 1: be like again, and you kind of just need to
[1:07:58] Speaker 1: be the assertive adult and you kind of just need
[1:08:00] Speaker 1: to say, like, I'm actually not having a conversation about this,
[1:08:03] Speaker 1: I'm buying you dinner. That's a okay, sure, listen. I'm
[1:08:08] Speaker 1: I'm not saying you should should or shouldn't do bridges idea.
[1:08:11] Speaker 1: I'm just saying I'm just saying, here's another option.
[1:08:14] Speaker 3: It's always nice to have a backup despite how bad
[1:08:17] Speaker 3: it is. Absolutely got. I just have something in the
[1:08:20] Speaker 3: closet to cook up when you run out of ingredients.
[1:08:22] Speaker 1: And you know what to this berliner, if you really
[1:08:25] Speaker 1: feel like blowing up your life, do a Bridger is suggesting.
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: I think that would be fun and a real a
[1:08:29] Speaker 1: real gas.
[1:08:30] Speaker 3: And the Berliner hasn't revealed their name, so they have
[1:08:34] Speaker 3: an absolute cloak of secrecy right now. They continue, They
[1:08:38] Speaker 3: do the manipulation, they do the advantage taking of do
[1:08:41] Speaker 3: whatever you want.
[1:08:42] Speaker 1: And in this society, that's real power that you have
[1:08:44] Speaker 1: here is staying anonymous, which is what this person's must done.
[1:08:47] Speaker 3: I mean, they have not sold their data to the podcast.
[1:08:50] Speaker 1: No, so God, I appreciate that, god Less.
[1:08:52] Speaker 3: We answered it perfectly.
[1:08:53] Speaker 1: Yes, I think I would agree.
[1:08:55] Speaker 3: You know, we took a two prong approach and now
[1:08:58] Speaker 3: this person's thrilled. Yeah, they better not right back.
[1:09:01] Speaker 1: And also, as a general note for other listeners, maybe
[1:09:05] Speaker 1: stop writing and emails. Pritcher doesn't want these.
[1:09:08] Speaker 3: We don't want another email. Absolutely, I'm hanging by a thread.
[1:09:13] Speaker 1: Here, I am with egg on my face, bringing a
[1:09:15] Speaker 1: gift like a frick and moron because I've got the
