[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, Gorgeous, It's Lala Kent. Welcome to Untraditionally Laala. Hello, gorgeous,
[0:07] Speaker 1: it is la La Kent. Welcome back to the bonus
[0:09] Speaker 1: episode of Untraditionally Lala. If you grew up in the
[0:12] Speaker 1: two thousands, the chances are you were doing the Cinderella
[0:16] Speaker 1: Dance in your living room. You were being just like me,
[0:19] Speaker 1: watching the TV, being like what I would give to
[0:22] Speaker 1: be a Cheetah girl. And today I have one of
[0:25] Speaker 1: the original Cheetah girls right here in front of me.
[0:29] Speaker 1: I mean, my my little self is freaking the out.
[0:36] Speaker 1: And when I saw it, there was like and worry
[0:39] Speaker 1: about I was like, I posted about it. I added
[0:41] Speaker 1: the song. I played that song for my daughter, she's five.
[0:45] Speaker 1: I'm like, you don't even know, you don't even know.
[0:47] Speaker 1: I'm about to change your life Ocean. She's like, play
[0:49] Speaker 1: it for me, mom, And we listened to the you know,
[0:52] Speaker 1: we're Cheetah Girls, Cheetah sisters. Oh my god.
[0:56] Speaker 2: It has been a wild ride and it's I it's crazy.
[1:01] Speaker 2: I can't I the people that have reposted. You've got
[1:05] Speaker 2: so many people. I met Meghan Trainer recently at I
[1:12] Speaker 2: Heart Event, Love It, Love It. We went to some
[1:15] Speaker 2: of the Wango Tango, which has been around forever. I went.
[1:18] Speaker 2: I grew up in Orange County and used to be
[1:20] Speaker 2: at the Angel Stadium. She comes out of nowhere, she's
[1:25] Speaker 2: on the red carpet and goes she literally says these words,
[1:29] Speaker 2: You're the reason why I'm a pop star.
[1:31] Speaker 1: I just got chills all over my mom.
[1:34] Speaker 2: Now body and that is like someone saying that, And
[1:37] Speaker 2: I was like, like it was so hard to not like,
[1:40] Speaker 2: I know, I'm thinking about.
[1:42] Speaker 1: It right now.
[1:42] Speaker 2: Like Megan Trainer, I'm like, girl, are you like, oh
[1:47] Speaker 2: my gosh, I can't even And she was like, I
[1:49] Speaker 2: used to be Derinda when I played it, and I
[1:51] Speaker 2: was just like I looked at my husband and just
[1:54] Speaker 2: was like, did that literally just happen? Likely ow?
[1:58] Speaker 1: I mean that movie did change everything. It did just
[2:05] Speaker 1: you know, four girls from very different backgrounds and talking
[2:09] Speaker 1: about you know, your how your spots are different. But
[2:13] Speaker 1: you guys are sisters. Like I remember watching that and
[2:16] Speaker 1: just wanting to be all of you and wanting to
[2:19] Speaker 1: find my little Cheetah sisters. I swear to god, you're
[2:22] Speaker 1: gonna laugh. We had I had a group of friends
[2:25] Speaker 1: that would come over and each of us would be.
[2:28] Speaker 1: And you know, everyone wants to be who they relate to, right, sure,
[2:31] Speaker 1: And we were the best part of form and record
[2:33] Speaker 1: on one of those big things with the tapes. I
[2:35] Speaker 1: think I still have the tapes. If I go back
[2:37] Speaker 1: to Utah and my mom's storage unit, I could probably
[2:39] Speaker 1: find them us dressed like you guys, totally performing doing
[2:43] Speaker 1: the whole thing and that.
[2:45] Speaker 2: Like you said, there was four of us. We were
[2:48] Speaker 2: all different. We had different personalities, We had different talents
[2:52] Speaker 2: that came to building. Like I was the dancer, right,
[2:55] Speaker 2: I was choreographing. That was my my thing eventually, Like
[2:59] Speaker 2: Kiely was the design like you know everyone Raven, you know,
[3:03] Speaker 2: she was the songwriter. You know. There's just like so
[3:07] Speaker 2: many things that like anyone could look and you could
[3:10] Speaker 2: go like I want to be Drinda today, but tomorrow
[3:13] Speaker 2: I'm gonna be Chanel, right, you know, like you all,
[3:15] Speaker 2: there was so many things for people to latch onto
[3:17] Speaker 2: totally and see themselves, right And the biggest thing that
[3:21] Speaker 2: I will I have zero regrets when it comes to
[3:25] Speaker 2: the choices that I've made in my career is like
[3:27] Speaker 2: being a part of something that inspired young girls. There
[3:30] Speaker 2: were so many girl groups out at that time. Yeah,
[3:33] Speaker 2: but we had an amazing opportunity to have storylines that
[3:37] Speaker 2: girls could really relate. Like it wasn't just because we
[3:40] Speaker 2: were out there and singing songs, but like our songs
[3:44] Speaker 2: had meaning, they came to a storyline and it just
[3:46] Speaker 2: like the ability to like inspire girls the way we
[3:50] Speaker 2: got a chance to do was so unreal.
[3:53] Speaker 1: Yeah, it was all about girl empowerment.
[3:56] Speaker 2: Yes it was, and it still is. You know, I
[4:00] Speaker 2: think the movies because my podcast we rewatch all these
[4:04] Speaker 2: Disney Channel movies.
[4:05] Speaker 1: What a Dream?
[4:06] Speaker 2: And I know that's like my homework is to watch
[4:10] Speaker 2: these movies Brink, Johnny Tsunami, the ones I grew up
[4:14] Speaker 2: with a smart house, like all these amazing Disney Channel movies,
[4:19] Speaker 2: and like some of them don't sit and stick. They
[4:24] Speaker 2: don't really they're not relevant. But you watch the Cheetah
[4:26] Speaker 2: Girls of Time, and you watch the Cheetah Girls in
[4:29] Speaker 2: those messaging and like everything that we go through, it's
[4:31] Speaker 2: like they still Like I watched them and was like,
[4:36] Speaker 2: I know, for a fact, if I had never been
[4:37] Speaker 2: a part of this, this is what I would want
[4:39] Speaker 2: my daughter to be watching, to be watching. Yeah, and
[4:43] Speaker 2: she does, and.
[4:43] Speaker 1: She what does she think? About it. Does she think
[4:45] Speaker 1: that that's just like the coolest thing on the planet.
[4:47] Speaker 2: So this I really haven't had a chance to do
[4:51] Speaker 2: a ton with her until the last like year or so.
[4:54] Speaker 2: I took her to Disney Channel Night. That was wild
[4:57] Speaker 2: for her because it was the first time that Channel
[5:00] Speaker 2: Night is legitimately like basically cosplay. They there was so
[5:03] Speaker 2: many Cheetah girls there. There was Chirls and Lizzie McGuire,
[5:07] Speaker 2: all high school musical fans, and everyone shows up can
[5:10] Speaker 2: possible outfits, like shows up in the outfits and it's
[5:13] Speaker 2: literally Disney for them, like the whole There's there's photo ops,
[5:18] Speaker 2: there's different foods. It was such a cool night at Disneyland.
[5:22] Speaker 2: And she's sitting there watching She's seen the first one.
[5:25] Speaker 2: She understands the track suit and then I went to
[5:28] Speaker 2: the bathroom and I put one on. I put my
[5:31] Speaker 2: orange track suit. Guys, I had orange. That's always been
[5:35] Speaker 2: a thing for me. I haven't gotten over it. Clearly
[5:38] Speaker 2: I had to be orange. It's fine because the ones
[5:40] Speaker 2: that happened is more of like a nectarine color. I'm
[5:43] Speaker 2: trying to make it better. It's not anyway well being forward,
[5:46] Speaker 2: But I put on the tracksuit, and when I came out,
[5:48] Speaker 2: she was just like it's like she's not really quite
[5:52] Speaker 2: understanding the difference right just yet. But then she's seen
[5:56] Speaker 2: all these girls come out wearing these outfits and literally
[6:01] Speaker 2: that they can't help but go back to when they
[6:04] Speaker 2: were younger and craking out united. They want pictures. They're
[6:07] Speaker 2: grabbing me and Monroe's just holding my hands so tight,
[6:10] Speaker 2: like what is going on? So it was very it's
[6:14] Speaker 2: like it's clicking now with.
[6:15] Speaker 1: Her that it starts clean because she's my daughter's age five.
[6:18] Speaker 2: Yes, and have you gotten to take her to anything
[6:21] Speaker 2: really cool? Like we just got to go to the
[6:23] Speaker 2: premiere for Descendants wondering and she was looking around like
[6:30] Speaker 2: and she's like mind blowing. My mom got me like
[6:33] Speaker 2: and she told everyone, so she's starting to understand. But
[6:35] Speaker 2: I'm also trying to say, like we don't have to
[6:37] Speaker 2: talk about it that much, like pull it back a
[6:40] Speaker 2: little bit. You don't have to tell mommy. Your preschool
[6:43] Speaker 2: teacher doesn't need to know mommy's a cheap girl.
[6:45] Speaker 1: Like don't see, I'd be like, go tell your preschool
[6:47] Speaker 1: teacher that mommy is a che's a girl.
[6:50] Speaker 2: It's so weird, like I'm visiting all of this again,
[6:53] Speaker 2: but as a mom, and it's different.
[6:56] Speaker 1: It's different because you and I grew up in a
[6:58] Speaker 1: time where like I understand the people coming and freaking
[7:02] Speaker 1: out and wearing, you know, their track suits, because I
[7:06] Speaker 1: remember watching Disney Channel and it was such a build
[7:09] Speaker 1: up of like the Cheetah Girls premiere is on blah
[7:14] Speaker 1: blah blah day, Like there was such a build up
[7:16] Speaker 1: of all Now everything's streaming and easy access on the phone,
[7:19] Speaker 1: Like you planned your life around when these shows were going.
[7:24] Speaker 2: To air on Disney Channel, And when the Cheetah Girls
[7:27] Speaker 2: came out, it was during an era of the channel
[7:30] Speaker 2: that there it was the Disney Channel original movie of
[7:33] Speaker 2: the month. Yes, so it was like you were running
[7:36] Speaker 2: home to see it on Friday after school on Friday.
[7:40] Speaker 1: It was always on a Friday or.
[7:42] Speaker 2: Hearing out like four or five, right, and then for
[7:45] Speaker 2: the next month almost.
[7:47] Speaker 1: It was just on then you can yeah, you can
[7:50] Speaker 1: turn it it fourteen times already.
[7:54] Speaker 2: And I do empathize with the parents that used to
[7:57] Speaker 2: come up to us during that day, being like, do
[7:59] Speaker 2: you know how many times I've listened to Cinderella? My
[8:01] Speaker 2: kid doesn't listen to anything, and now I do, because
[8:03] Speaker 2: I'm like everything is they want to perfect princess all
[8:08] Speaker 2: the time, like all day, all night. My daughter is
[8:11] Speaker 2: listening to this new Descendant song like she just loves it.
[8:14] Speaker 1: Oh, it's like when we're in the car.
[8:16] Speaker 2: Yes, I'm like, I'm so sorry for all the parents
[8:21] Speaker 2: that had to listen to the gas now we know.
[8:23] Speaker 1: I'm like, if I have to listen to apt by.
[8:26] Speaker 2: Oh, then what's the one that oh h O T
[8:31] Speaker 2: T O g Oh?
[8:32] Speaker 3: What is that?
[8:35] Speaker 2: Oh?
[8:35] Speaker 1: Okay, she hasn't coming not to go. Oh, she hasn't
[8:38] Speaker 1: come in contact with I don't think I want.
[8:39] Speaker 2: To know either, because it's it's different too when there
[8:43] Speaker 2: are movements that go through And.
[8:45] Speaker 1: So she's in the backseat in her car.
[8:46] Speaker 2: Seat h O T T O g oh, and she's
[8:50] Speaker 2: like performing it, and I'm like, and then I can't say.
[8:53] Speaker 1: Mom when we get home, I gotta get.
[8:55] Speaker 2: You and tell me Mommy phil me. I'm like, oh
[9:00] Speaker 2: my gosh, we have this on recording so many times. Girl,
[9:03] Speaker 2: you got it, we got it, we got it.
[9:05] Speaker 1: She's a little performer. Yeah, she's you.
[9:08] Speaker 2: She and she looks so much like me when I
[9:11] Speaker 2: was little, Like I have like a little mini me.
[9:13] Speaker 2: My family watches her and when she does certain mannerisms,
[9:16] Speaker 2: like they all just like lose their mind. And then
[9:19] Speaker 2: my son is a replica of my husband, so we
[9:21] Speaker 2: have one of each.
[9:22] Speaker 1: That's great. I'd say that's very well rounded family. I
[9:29] Speaker 1: have two girls. One of my kids is conceived via
[9:33] Speaker 1: sperm donor. Okay, so I get to just say, she's
[9:36] Speaker 1: all me me ready.
[9:39] Speaker 2: I love her and my sister all four of her
[9:42] Speaker 2: kids are sperm donors. Really yeah, she's she's gay, got it?
[9:47] Speaker 1: So that was the only way and the same donor
[9:50] Speaker 1: for all the kids.
[9:50] Speaker 2: Yes, wow, and they've even one thing you're I would
[9:54] Speaker 2: love to hear more of your process, and I know
[9:56] Speaker 2: you've talked about it on your podcast. But one of
[9:59] Speaker 2: the things that was very cool while her and her
[10:02] Speaker 2: wife were going through the sperm donor process was realizing
[10:07] Speaker 2: it's not just picking the person. Then you're in this
[10:10] Speaker 2: like community. So they connected with another couple who also
[10:14] Speaker 2: used the same sperm donor, and they were just pen
[10:18] Speaker 2: pals via like you know, wanting to know. They're like,
[10:21] Speaker 2: can we just kind of open it up of like
[10:23] Speaker 2: how you're going to explain things later? Like the kids
[10:26] Speaker 2: are babies right now, but like at one point like
[10:28] Speaker 2: how are you going to explain certain things? And they
[10:31] Speaker 2: did it for like, uh, medical reasons of wanting to
[10:34] Speaker 2: you know, if there was ever an issue. But they
[10:37] Speaker 2: became great friends and then they their families like like
[10:43] Speaker 2: my nephew will call their son and daughter like brother
[10:48] Speaker 2: and sister.
[10:49] Speaker 1: That is so cute.
[10:49] Speaker 2: They're like, yeah, they've they've really And it was crazy
[10:52] Speaker 2: to be like I didn't realize thinking about other families
[10:55] Speaker 2: like do you open it? Do you is it open?
[10:57] Speaker 2: Is it closed? Is it open? At eighteen? All of
[11:00] Speaker 2: these things that my sister went through. It was very
[11:03] Speaker 2: fascinating to go through it on the outside of her. Absolutely,
[11:08] Speaker 2: it was very cool journey.
[11:09] Speaker 1: It's I cannot explain, I mean. And I asked the
[11:14] Speaker 1: cryobank that I went through, I said, you know, how
[11:16] Speaker 1: many people come to you guys in my situation because
[11:18] Speaker 1: I know, you know, if a woman she doesn't have
[11:22] Speaker 1: viable eggs, you know, or a man his sperm doesn't work,
[11:27] Speaker 1: stormers ain't working sperm donor couples in same sex marriages. Yeah,
[11:32] Speaker 1: they were like, for you, it's like a very very
[11:35] Speaker 1: small percentage like women coming in and it being like
[11:39] Speaker 1: single mother by choice, so I haven't. Oddly enough, I
[11:43] Speaker 1: have one friend who was going through it, but her
[11:46] Speaker 1: gay best friend is the donor. Okay, I couldn't get
[11:49] Speaker 1: my gay best friends. They were like, I would feel
[11:51] Speaker 1: too guilty leaving. I feel guilty leaving ocean. She's not
[11:54] Speaker 1: even mine. I'm like, okay, I get it. Yeah, but
[11:57] Speaker 1: my biggest thing was like picking a donor first and foremost,
[12:00] Speaker 1: because I'm gonna already have a lot to explain, and
[12:03] Speaker 1: Los Angeles is very inclusive, right, I don't worry about here,
[12:08] Speaker 1: but the outside world. I've seen the comment sections I'm
[12:10] Speaker 1: a big, big sinner. I have done my child dirty
[12:13] Speaker 1: by not having a dad. Got it. It's like the
[12:16] Speaker 1: one thing that I'm like so confident in my decision
[12:18] Speaker 1: that there's not much you can say to me.
[12:20] Speaker 2: People realize the amount of decisions you have to make
[12:23] Speaker 2: during that process that when you go through it, you
[12:26] Speaker 2: are so confident. You're so confident, you're so I mean
[12:29] Speaker 2: the books that we you go, you take it from
[12:32] Speaker 2: the donors and and the questioning that they do. They
[12:36] Speaker 2: don't just do their mom and dad. It's like eat
[12:39] Speaker 2: their dad's mom and dad. Oh, their mom's mom and dad.
[12:41] Speaker 1: Level of testing that I had to go through. Yeah,
[12:44] Speaker 1: the genetic testing. I had like a panel of five hundred.
[12:47] Speaker 1: He was like, you didn't get the full one. I'm like,
[12:49] Speaker 1: there's more. I like passed out because they took so
[12:51] Speaker 1: much blood. I was like, I don't think I can
[12:52] Speaker 1: go back there.
[12:53] Speaker 2: It don't maybe go back wow.
[12:55] Speaker 1: But what I didn't realize, like your sister was saying,
[12:58] Speaker 1: like the questions and how you explain is this is
[13:00] Speaker 1: what I'm facing right now with my kids, because we
[13:03] Speaker 1: already like there's already this weird thing of Ocean growing
[13:08] Speaker 1: up with her dad being a movie producer and all that,
[13:10] Speaker 1: Like she sees very a very crazy life. People run
[13:13] Speaker 1: up to her and they're like, oh my gosh, Ocean. Yeah,
[13:15] Speaker 1: so there's that aspect that we already live in, like
[13:17] Speaker 1: a pretty different world which you can relate to. But
[13:22] Speaker 1: with Sosa, this is what you're gonna die of the story.
[13:25] Speaker 1: I'll make it quick. So I tell Ocean that she
[13:28] Speaker 1: can go in when her sister's up, she can go
[13:30] Speaker 1: keep her company in the crib. Okay, and for a
[13:33] Speaker 1: period of time, Sosa, my youngest, my donor baby mm hmm,
[13:38] Speaker 1: kept saying daddy to everybody. And I hear my daughter
[13:41] Speaker 1: Ocean say no, so say you don't have a daddy.
[13:45] Speaker 1: You don't have a daddy? No, And I was like,
[13:48] Speaker 1: oh fuck, I did not think this one through. So
[13:52] Speaker 1: we're walking through downtown Palm Springs and Sosa says daddy
[13:58] Speaker 1: and Ocean goes into you don't have a dad. Well,
[14:00] Speaker 1: then I get protective of Sosa, right, I go, I
[14:03] Speaker 1: know she doesn't have a dad. Isn't she so lucky
[14:05] Speaker 1: all of her stuff is in one place. She has
[14:07] Speaker 1: to be with mom all the time. And my brother
[14:08] Speaker 1: Easton looks at me and goes, please do not fuck
[14:12] Speaker 1: up your other child while trying to protect Sosa. And
[14:14] Speaker 1: I was like, oh shit, I did not see this coming.
[14:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's so you have to find ways to
[14:23] Speaker 2: explain stuff, but not you.
[14:25] Speaker 1: Know, traumatize both of them while trying to protect the other.
[14:29] Speaker 2: Or just and kids are just they just ask a
[14:31] Speaker 2: lot of questions and it can be very overwhelming. My
[14:36] Speaker 2: daughter was with our friend and his fiance and they're
[14:41] Speaker 2: his child who he has, you know, and she has
[14:45] Speaker 2: two mommies And Monroe's like, what's going on here? Yeah,
[14:49] Speaker 2: why don't I get two mommies, and I'm like, because
[14:54] Speaker 2: her mommy and daddy didn't stay together? Well why, okay,
[14:58] Speaker 2: I don't know. I have to sometimes just like.
[15:01] Speaker 1: Dad is that's why?
[15:05] Speaker 3: But like these questions that you're just like not ready
[15:09] Speaker 3: to explain, and how to explain it without putting someone
[15:15] Speaker 3: else down sometimes to explain stuff right like, she I go.
[15:20] Speaker 2: Isn't she lucky she gets two mommies that love her?
[15:22] Speaker 2: And she goes, yeah, but why don't I get that?
[15:25] Speaker 2: And I'm like, because I'm all the love unique girls, why.
[15:29] Speaker 1: Does Susie get two Christmases and I get one?
[15:33] Speaker 2: Right there? You go, It's so hard to explain. Sometimes
[15:37] Speaker 2: you just and you start mumbling, and you as much
[15:40] Speaker 2: of a confident adult as you are, they can really strike.
[15:44] Speaker 1: They school you, humble you.
[15:47] Speaker 2: Mommy, that's not appropriate. Or something comes on the TV
[15:51] Speaker 2: and I have to be so careful because she just
[15:53] Speaker 2: she'll stop doing what she's doing, coloring or automatically. And
[15:57] Speaker 2: also she's looking and I'm like, oh my gosh, I
[15:59] Speaker 2: forgot the show, isn't you know? I'm sorry? Girl?
[16:02] Speaker 1: Yeah, please don't tell your preschool teacher.
[16:05] Speaker 2: They know everything they do true and I know that
[16:08] Speaker 2: because my husband's mom is one, and so she tells
[16:11] Speaker 2: me all the funny stories that these kids come to shit.
[16:13] Speaker 1: Well, she's got the experience. Yeah, oh my gosh, what
[16:18] Speaker 1: I now that should be the reality show because preschool
[16:21] Speaker 1: teachers and what they hear. Oh yeah, they would dig that.
[16:24] Speaker 1: Oh do you get worried because it sounds like you're
[16:27] Speaker 1: your daughter's a little performer? Would you say you were
[16:30] Speaker 1: a child star?
[16:31] Speaker 2: No?
[16:32] Speaker 1: Because how old were you when Cheetah Girls came out?
[16:34] Speaker 2: Eighteen? The Cheetah Girls was my first job that I
[16:38] Speaker 2: had without my parents. One of my parents on set
[16:41] Speaker 2: with me. Okay, and I turned eighteen like the second
[16:46] Speaker 2: day of rehearsal, so I was legitimately like the first
[16:50] Speaker 2: time we went to Toronto. I went to Toronto by myself.
[16:53] Speaker 2: And yeah, so I was in college. Okay, so you're
[16:57] Speaker 2: playing a fifteen year old, yes, yeah, freshman in high school.
[17:13] Speaker 1: Does it scare you because you've been in the industry.
[17:17] Speaker 1: If your daughter does decide to like take the path
[17:19] Speaker 1: that you took, is there like a rule that you've
[17:22] Speaker 1: set up where if she when she hits a certain age,
[17:24] Speaker 1: if she's still into it, you will help her in
[17:27] Speaker 1: that direction.
[17:28] Speaker 2: She's asked about it a lot. The crazy part is, no,
[17:33] Speaker 2: I wouldn't be scared. I feel like I watched my
[17:35] Speaker 2: parents do it the right way, and I was around
[17:39] Speaker 2: other child actors whose parents did it a way that
[17:42] Speaker 2: I wouldn't. I wouldn't say the wrong way, but the
[17:44] Speaker 2: way I wouldn't want to do it, okay, And I
[17:48] Speaker 2: really loved that there was always it was always known
[17:53] Speaker 2: if I just woke up one day and didn't want
[17:55] Speaker 2: to do it anymore, that I didn't have to. There
[17:57] Speaker 2: was no pressure, no even I mean, it was such
[18:00] Speaker 2: a big deal even in high school. I came home
[18:03] Speaker 2: actually from my freshman year of high school in tears
[18:06] Speaker 2: almost every day because I felt like I was missing
[18:09] Speaker 2: out on opportunities and auditions because I had to go
[18:11] Speaker 2: to school. Wow. Yeah, And my dad was like, I
[18:16] Speaker 2: love you, and I don't care that you are trying
[18:20] Speaker 2: to grow up too fast. Wow, I want to He
[18:23] Speaker 2: always said, I want to take a picture at your
[18:26] Speaker 2: senior prom together and not because you're going with someone
[18:29] Speaker 2: else at your senior prom. Like, that's what I want
[18:32] Speaker 2: for you. I want you to work as much as
[18:34] Speaker 2: you we can, but also have a different life. So
[18:38] Speaker 2: I was always able to segregate like work life and
[18:41] Speaker 2: then come home and be like a normal kid. Be
[18:43] Speaker 2: a normal kid, yeah, play soccer or be a dancer.
[18:46] Speaker 2: And it wasn't until I actually joined my dance team
[18:49] Speaker 2: at school that I finally found like a purpose, Like
[18:54] Speaker 2: I felt like I really loved being a part of school.
[18:58] Speaker 2: I got to be a part of the school commune
[19:00] Speaker 2: versus feeling like I felt like I was like a
[19:02] Speaker 2: commuter because everyone would go after school and hang out.
[19:05] Speaker 2: I was either going to dance class, or I was
[19:07] Speaker 2: coming up to La to do acting, or I was
[19:09] Speaker 2: coming up for jobs or you know what I mean.
[19:11] Speaker 2: I was doing all that and not because of my parents.
[19:14] Speaker 2: My parents would have loved for me to not to
[19:16] Speaker 2: be like I don't want to do that. My dad
[19:18] Speaker 2: was like, you know, why don't Why don't you be
[19:21] Speaker 2: like any other career like you could, you could do
[19:25] Speaker 2: whatever you want. He didn't necessarily want me in the industry.
[19:29] Speaker 2: He was they was. They were scared about it. They
[19:31] Speaker 2: made me. I was a background actor for a long time.
[19:35] Speaker 1: Okay, I did dance.
[19:37] Speaker 2: I was a dancer in the industry, so I did
[19:39] Speaker 2: you know again, the there was a principal character, and
[19:43] Speaker 2: I was dancing in the background and doing things like
[19:45] Speaker 2: that because my parents kept thinking, you're going to get
[19:48] Speaker 2: bored on set because set is actually very boring for kids,
[19:51] Speaker 2: very boring, true word. But kids have the extra have
[19:57] Speaker 2: to go to school for three hours exactly. That makes
[19:59] Speaker 2: it really not fun because they're just basically doing homework
[20:04] Speaker 2: for three out. They're not learning a lesson. It's with
[20:06] Speaker 2: the set teacher who has a fourth grader, a fifth grader,
[20:09] Speaker 2: a second grader, so they're just basically doing busy work.
[20:13] Speaker 2: My parents kept thinking if I was a part of it,
[20:15] Speaker 2: I was going to just get over it, and they
[20:17] Speaker 2: didn't realize I was like just falling in love with
[20:19] Speaker 2: it even more. Even more so, I would support Monroe
[20:25] Speaker 2: and or Ledger if he wanted to. He's actually very funny,
[20:29] Speaker 2: but it'd have to be I'd have to be able
[20:32] Speaker 2: to do it the way that I did it with
[20:34] Speaker 2: my parents. And my dad was a real estate agent,
[20:36] Speaker 2: so he was able to be on set with me.
[20:38] Speaker 1: Oh that's great, you know.
[20:39] Speaker 2: And my mom did a lot of more of the
[20:42] Speaker 2: like the paperwork and stuff like that at home, so
[20:44] Speaker 2: she he would she would send me with my dad
[20:49] Speaker 2: and he I felt took really good care of me
[20:52] Speaker 2: on set, like, oh yeah, I never I never went
[20:56] Speaker 2: anywhere where he couldn't see me. He protected me a lot.
[21:00] Speaker 1: That makes me, yeah, really really happy for you. Yeah,
[21:03] Speaker 1: because it can get dark.
[21:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, but I will say when I was eighteen and
[21:07] Speaker 2: given the opportunity to be part of the channel, like
[21:09] Speaker 2: the Channel takes really good care of their kids. Like
[21:13] Speaker 2: now when we interview for the podcasts that I do,
[21:16] Speaker 2: and we talk to the new kids on Zombies and
[21:17] Speaker 2: the new kids on Descendants, and I'm like, there's a
[21:20] Speaker 2: whole world of like Instagram wasn't around when I was
[21:23] Speaker 2: not at all, that whole part of being famous was
[21:27] Speaker 2: not really a part of the gig. And you know,
[21:31] Speaker 2: the channel gives the We talked to Malachi from Zombies
[21:36] Speaker 2: talk to his mom and what it's like to have
[21:39] Speaker 2: what's it like to have Malachi? Like holy, does.
[21:42] Speaker 1: She control the Instagram?
[21:44] Speaker 2: No? She she did for a long time, but he's
[21:46] Speaker 2: eighteen now. I was like, what's that, Like, how did you?
[21:49] Speaker 2: And she goes you know, I will say, I'll give
[21:52] Speaker 2: it to Disney. They give them education on it. Oh wow,
[21:57] Speaker 2: they help them with that. They helped that that aspect
[22:00] Speaker 2: of teaching them how to not post when you're there,
[22:03] Speaker 2: post after like all those things I feel like kids
[22:07] Speaker 2: today don't think about. They get a lot of like
[22:10] Speaker 2: help with that, which I think is magical. I think
[22:13] Speaker 2: that's just so incredible. Disney's so hands on with that stuff.
[22:16] Speaker 1: I love that too. Do they do they prep them
[22:18] Speaker 1: for the comment section? Because we were talking about the
[22:19] Speaker 1: comment section?
[22:20] Speaker 2: She said they talked. They work with them on like
[22:22] Speaker 2: mental health. That's a big, a big thing that they
[22:25] Speaker 2: advocate for the channels. So and I will say I
[22:28] Speaker 2: believe it one hundred percent because Disney was so hands
[22:31] Speaker 2: on and so great they were. It was a really
[22:33] Speaker 2: good company to work with, especially with that being my
[22:37] Speaker 2: first Yeah, saying that I had to start doing stuff
[22:40] Speaker 2: on my own without someone over my shoulder of some sort,
[22:43] Speaker 2: so your protector, yeah, watching me and making sure, you know.
[22:47] Speaker 2: And he was really great also about he would call it.
[22:52] Speaker 2: He would say, let's you know, let's let's go through
[22:56] Speaker 2: what happened today, because he wanted me to like talk
[22:58] Speaker 2: through what happened with things on set, you know, good
[23:01] Speaker 2: or bad? Good or bad? Yeah, you know, things that
[23:04] Speaker 2: you saw that you might have not liked, so I
[23:06] Speaker 2: didn't understand why so and so got in trouble about this,
[23:09] Speaker 2: or I didn't like the way this person was talked
[23:13] Speaker 2: to or whatever, or did you see how this person
[23:16] Speaker 2: like dad, did you see them handle that scene? Wow?
[23:19] Speaker 2: What a bad ass. Yeah, you know, so we got
[23:21] Speaker 2: to go through and he would He loved for me
[23:23] Speaker 2: to be able to kind of say it to me
[23:26] Speaker 2: because when I was going home, I wasn't going home.
[23:29] Speaker 2: I didn't have a friend group of actors, people that
[23:33] Speaker 2: up to playing soccer. I had friends that were baseball
[23:36] Speaker 2: or you know, or didn't didn't have an outside activity
[23:39] Speaker 2: from school. You know, I had people that like couldn't
[23:41] Speaker 2: understand like the LA life totally and the work, And
[23:45] Speaker 2: they couldn't understand why I was wanting to work. They
[23:47] Speaker 2: didn't understand that.
[23:48] Speaker 1: When you could chill like you got your whole life
[23:49] Speaker 1: to work.
[23:50] Speaker 2: Yes, they could not understand that, and so they couldn't
[23:54] Speaker 2: understand that I loved it. I just loved it.
[23:56] Speaker 1: Right, that's where you were thriving. You knew that you
[23:58] Speaker 1: wanted to be in that environ at all times. Yeah,
[24:01] Speaker 1: so when you you obviously came to LA, you auditioned
[24:04] Speaker 1: for the Cheetah girls you auditioned in LA or no
[24:06] Speaker 1: self tape? No was there self tape back then?
[24:10] Speaker 2: There were for people like that were like in Texas.
[24:13] Speaker 2: Texas was a pretty big place for kids.
[24:16] Speaker 1: I feel like, send in like an actual tape for like,
[24:23] Speaker 1: why am I having this memory of a friend sending
[24:26] Speaker 1: in like a real life tape.
[24:27] Speaker 2: They might have, I mean you, But like it wasn't
[24:31] Speaker 2: as common LA. Everyone was auditioning.
[24:34] Speaker 1: Like, if you wanted to audition for movies, you need
[24:36] Speaker 1: to move to Los Angeles.
[24:38] Speaker 2: I would say, that's what kids do. There's a there
[24:41] Speaker 2: used to be a thing, and I think it's probably
[24:43] Speaker 2: still relevant where it was called pilot season and it
[24:46] Speaker 2: would be like the month the months of January, February,
[24:51] Speaker 2: maybe like March, and people would move to LA and
[24:57] Speaker 2: live in oh Man. Will would tell me, I forget.
[25:00] Speaker 2: There was like a certain condo area that everyone who
[25:05] Speaker 2: lived that was out of town would live in this
[25:07] Speaker 2: apartment complex and you would just be there strictly to
[25:13] Speaker 2: come an audition for three months or whatever your parents
[25:16] Speaker 2: could do, and hopefully book a pilot. And if you
[25:19] Speaker 2: booked a pilot, then you filmed the pilot and then
[25:22] Speaker 2: it got picked up or it didn't you.
[25:24] Speaker 1: Talking about this puts a pit in my stomach because
[25:27] Speaker 1: I remember being in Utah and wanting to be an
[25:30] Speaker 1: actress and it was me and my friend and she
[25:31] Speaker 1: was much more driven, and she would come out for
[25:34] Speaker 1: pilot season and I remember like wanting to do that
[25:40] Speaker 1: because I needed to do it, but it felt very
[25:43] Speaker 1: uncomfortable for me and coming out during pilot season and
[25:47] Speaker 1: not really grinding like my friend was grinding, and feeling
[25:49] Speaker 1: guilty that I didn't have the drive and the grind
[25:52] Speaker 1: that she had. She ended up moving full time and
[25:55] Speaker 1: missing high school. I ended up staying back as my
[25:58] Speaker 1: parents were.
[25:58] Speaker 2: Like, we really need you to just be a kid.
[26:02] Speaker 1: And I was like that that when you say that
[26:04] Speaker 1: to me, the pit leaves my stomach. Yeah, that I
[26:07] Speaker 1: can do.
[26:07] Speaker 2: I'm glad you had those opportunities to do that, because
[26:12] Speaker 2: I feel like the kids that that don't they There's
[26:17] Speaker 2: at some point like I feel I just feel like
[26:20] Speaker 2: what goes into my work now and now I'm doing
[26:22] Speaker 2: like podcasting and stuff. All the experiences that I had, right,
[26:25] Speaker 2: it was that age, right, Yeah, And then of course
[26:27] Speaker 2: the experience when I had when I booked the Cheetah
[26:30] Speaker 2: Girls and I mean, but it it was tough and
[26:33] Speaker 2: not This is my part point going back to Monroe.
[26:36] Speaker 2: I don't know if there's an age, but it will
[26:38] Speaker 2: be something that I need to make sure she has
[26:43] Speaker 2: the tough skin to be able to do what it
[26:45] Speaker 2: is that kids do in the industry and audition and
[26:49] Speaker 2: take the nose because you get a hundred nose before
[26:51] Speaker 2: you get a callback, and then you get a hundred
[26:54] Speaker 2: callbacks before you get a second callback and the screen
[26:59] Speaker 2: testing to be able to go. They didn't. It could
[27:03] Speaker 2: be as simple as they want a redhead. They don't
[27:05] Speaker 2: want to they don't want a brunette. Right, It's as
[27:07] Speaker 2: simple as that they want brown eyes and they don't
[27:09] Speaker 2: want blue.
[27:10] Speaker 1: Like I can put in contacts, I can change my
[27:11] Speaker 1: hair color.
[27:12] Speaker 2: Yeah right, you're like, wait what, I'll change myself right, Like,
[27:15] Speaker 2: but like to not let to not let those nose
[27:17] Speaker 2: affect you. And she's too little for me to know
[27:21] Speaker 2: if she's that total or not. And until I know
[27:24] Speaker 2: and feel confident that she can take a no and
[27:27] Speaker 2: it not affected me, I was like, you're bad. Yeah,
[27:33] Speaker 2: I would have been great for this role, like I
[27:35] Speaker 2: had that kind of Yeah, I'm like, there was it
[27:40] Speaker 2: was just and my dad would say when I'd get frustrated,
[27:43] Speaker 2: because like, go back to pilot season. There was the
[27:46] Speaker 2: year before I booked The Cheetah Girls, I was in
[27:47] Speaker 2: three pilots that didn't get picked up. Wow. Yeah, I
[27:51] Speaker 2: was in Bold and the Beautiful. I had a recurring role,
[27:54] Speaker 2: but my character didn't get the contract. My girlfriend's character did.
[28:00] Speaker 2: And to take those hits and there's a time where
[28:02] Speaker 2: you know, I like again, I had really great open
[28:05] Speaker 2: communication with my parents and my dad was like, Sabrina,
[28:08] Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, I can feel it. It
[28:11] Speaker 2: feels like there's a train approaching us and it's just
[28:14] Speaker 2: gonna take that one yes for you to just ride
[28:18] Speaker 2: and go. And I was like, okay, Like on the
[28:21] Speaker 2: days that I'd get frustrated, and I get us that
[28:23] Speaker 2: because there were roles that I really wanted, you know,
[28:25] Speaker 2: and you don't get those roles all the time. So
[28:28] Speaker 2: when the Cheetah Girls came out and this character Derinda
[28:31] Speaker 2: and I auditioned for all four. So that's what they
[28:33] Speaker 2: did with the Cheetah Girls. Oh, they came in.
[28:34] Speaker 1: You auditioned for all you.
[28:36] Speaker 2: Everyone auditioned for all four and was praying for obviously
[28:40] Speaker 2: wanting to get Galleria because it was the lead, but
[28:43] Speaker 2: I really felt like Derinda was mine.
[28:47] Speaker 1: Really.
[28:47] Speaker 2: Yeah. It was one of those I'm like, I could sing,
[28:50] Speaker 2: I could dance, I could put me in a room.
[28:52] Speaker 2: I will outdance anyone that else comes in, Like I was.
[28:55] Speaker 2: I just like felt like this was my role and
[28:58] Speaker 2: I was going to prove that it was my Like
[29:00] Speaker 2: I just had that vibe right And then but I
[29:04] Speaker 2: auditioned for Chanel and Aqua didn't. I think I might
[29:08] Speaker 2: have gotten a callback maybe when I went in and
[29:11] Speaker 2: I probably I think I auditioned for Channel and Derinda
[29:14] Speaker 2: on the callback, okay. And then this was the fourth
[29:17] Speaker 2: callback was when there's this Burbank building for the Channel
[29:22] Speaker 2: that used to have everything and the top floor, like
[29:25] Speaker 2: the floor twenty one is where the auditions happened. Okay,
[29:30] Speaker 2: and you get out of that that elevator and it's
[29:33] Speaker 2: like the whole time. I just was there and literally
[29:36] Speaker 2: in forty A just was there, like and I got
[29:38] Speaker 2: the stomach bubbles going the elevator because this was when
[29:42] Speaker 2: you got to that floor that was where the decisions
[29:45] Speaker 2: were made. Oh my gosh, and you'd be in a
[29:46] Speaker 2: room and hard racing. You're just telling the story. Most auditions,
[29:50] Speaker 2: you're in a room with everyone that looks like you
[29:52] Speaker 2: if you're when you get to callbacks, like, it's everyone Derinda.
[29:55] Speaker 2: They didn't know what ethnicity they wanted. They didn't know
[29:58] Speaker 2: because she was a foster child. At that point, Raven
[30:01] Speaker 2: was already in the room. This was like the final
[30:03] Speaker 2: callback where they were starting to put us together. Uh
[30:07] Speaker 2: Beyonce's little sister.
[30:09] Speaker 1: So long, don't even get we started on. Sele comes through.
[30:13] Speaker 2: I'm sitting in the chair and she comes through, and
[30:15] Speaker 2: I'm like.
[30:16] Speaker 1: Did you die?
[30:16] Speaker 2: I would have died, but I had kept it cool.
[30:20] Speaker 2: So I feel like this was my face, which I
[30:22] Speaker 2: thought was probably as good as I could get.
[30:24] Speaker 1: And I was like, were you intimidated as it?
[30:28] Speaker 2: Yes? Then Adrian by Alone comes back. Oh yeah, one
[30:32] Speaker 2: of the most gorgeous girls I'd ever seen. She looked
[30:35] Speaker 2: like she had no makeup on, just like some some blush.
[30:38] Speaker 1: Yeah she probably didn't.
[30:41] Speaker 2: Her hair was like curly, but like in a like
[30:44] Speaker 2: backpas stunning And I was.
[30:46] Speaker 1: Like, okay, see that's the worst. I'm like, I wish
[30:51] Speaker 1: I had had a battle in our own little boxes
[30:53] Speaker 1: so that I can't see the competition, because then I'm
[30:55] Speaker 1: like that, but I knew.
[30:57] Speaker 2: I was like that, she's that girl's going for Schanelle.
[31:00] Speaker 2: Like new heard from one of the other girls that
[31:03] Speaker 2: came out that Raven was in the room, and I
[31:05] Speaker 2: was like, oh, this is They're looking for just Derinda
[31:07] Speaker 2: Like this is so at that point I think they
[31:09] Speaker 2: had they had at least in their mind who the
[31:13] Speaker 2: rest of the three girls where they were just looking
[31:15] Speaker 2: for my part. And I just remember being like, okay,
[31:21] Speaker 2: you got this, please love God get this, Like this
[31:25] Speaker 2: is it right? And we went in and then they
[31:28] Speaker 2: I did a scene. I had a dramatic scene for
[31:31] Speaker 2: the movie where I was explaining none of my friends
[31:34] Speaker 2: knew I was a foster child. Yeah, that's the scene
[31:36] Speaker 2: I auditioned with.
[31:37] Speaker 1: Oh I got chills again.
[31:38] Speaker 2: Yeah. And I was not performing the scene as dramatic
[31:43] Speaker 2: as what we ended up filming. And the director Oz
[31:47] Speaker 2: Scott was like, I feel like you could give me more.
[31:50] Speaker 2: I want to see what it would be like to
[31:54] Speaker 2: for you to not have the parents that you have.
[31:57] Speaker 2: What how would you think this girl would be what
[32:00] Speaker 2: would she be going through? And I went okay, and
[32:03] Speaker 2: me and Adrian I swear we did the scene almost
[32:05] Speaker 2: exactly the way we filmed it in.
[32:07] Speaker 1: That so she was in me and that is who
[32:09] Speaker 1: you were auditioning with.
[32:10] Speaker 2: And he was like, go there, let me see you
[32:12] Speaker 2: go there. You can do it.
[32:13] Speaker 1: I can, I can tell you can do it. I
[32:15] Speaker 1: was like, okay, And you know, that's always such a
[32:18] Speaker 1: good sign. I remember my very first acting class. They
[32:21] Speaker 1: were like, if someone in the room, like the director
[32:24] Speaker 1: tells you to redo it, it's not because you did
[32:28] Speaker 1: a bad job. It is because they know you have something.
[32:32] Speaker 1: You're tweakable and mouldable.
[32:34] Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Yes. And that was my audition. And
[32:37] Speaker 2: then I got to dance, and that's when and.
[32:40] Speaker 1: That's when you thrive. You broke it down, little girls.
[32:43] Speaker 2: I'll show showed everything I could do.
[32:47] Speaker 1: What song did you audition to? Do?
[32:49] Speaker 2: You remember I had a couple. I had Broadway song.
[32:52] Speaker 2: I was more Broadway trained than I was pop star trained.
[32:56] Speaker 2: I didn't work on like Britney Spears songs or Sineaguilera.
[33:00] Speaker 2: I'd come in with like a Broadway side or a
[33:02] Speaker 2: Disney song like river What's the River Bend from Pocahontas
[33:07] Speaker 2: was a song belt in it and I loved the belt.
[33:11] Speaker 2: And then there was a Liza Minelli's song I Forget
[33:16] Speaker 2: but pretty pretty city Lights and she hits this really
[33:20] Speaker 2: high note in it. So that's what I would try
[33:22] Speaker 2: to do, is show my range. And so I came
[33:25] Speaker 2: in probably with Pocahontas, and then I did that song
[33:27] Speaker 2: and and.
[33:28] Speaker 1: You were like, but then.
[33:32] Speaker 2: Like's and this, and you opened your eyes to just
[33:40] Speaker 2: exacts like that was great, like wow, okay, so I
[33:46] Speaker 2: didn't move anyone. Okay, They're like in the room with
[33:50] Speaker 2: hearing over and over these songs of kids, you know,
[33:52] Speaker 2: like a weather around the road, and what was well,
[33:58] Speaker 2: I will say I remember is was always the worst
[34:01] Speaker 2: of going into and having to be a dancer and
[34:03] Speaker 2: them just putting on a track and going okay, like
[34:06] Speaker 2: let's see you more.
[34:07] Speaker 1: So with the dancing, they picked the song they would.
[34:10] Speaker 2: Just put on a track, or you could bring a
[34:12] Speaker 2: song that you would like, but I didn't really care.
[34:15] Speaker 2: You could put anything.
[34:15] Speaker 1: On the worst because I go straight into the fizzle face.
[34:21] Speaker 2: Now, oh I.
[34:21] Speaker 1: Get it right.
[34:24] Speaker 2: Most you'd be the what most kids do. They're learning
[34:26] Speaker 2: TikTok dances, and that's the face that you do in
[34:28] Speaker 2: a TikTok.
[34:29] Speaker 1: These kids don't know that face is mac dre. Let
[34:34] Speaker 1: me tell you so, yeah, why don't. I'm obsessed with
[34:38] Speaker 1: everything you just want.
[34:40] Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever gone that dove that far
[34:43] Speaker 2: into that whole thing. But anyway, for you and you
[34:47] Speaker 2: hear nothing, nothing. Months go by, Audish agent hasn't heard anything.
[34:54] Speaker 2: And you know, I'm off to college. I'm at Chapman
[34:57] Speaker 2: and I'm in the dorm like.
[34:59] Speaker 1: Living normal, like mom and dad wanted yev.
[35:02] Speaker 2: And then I got, you know, a job at a
[35:04] Speaker 2: tanning salon, like like one does.
[35:06] Speaker 1: Wow in college disorients, I was saying.
[35:10] Speaker 2: And I then Debah Martin Chase, the producer, called me,
[35:13] Speaker 2: and I was at my tanning salon and my phone rang,
[35:15] Speaker 2: you know, and it was where it was probably should
[35:17] Speaker 2: have had it, but at my phone rang and Debra's calling,
[35:19] Speaker 2: and I like looked at my managers, like this is
[35:21] Speaker 2: the movie from the Cheeta Girls, that thing I told
[35:23] Speaker 2: you I filmed. She's calling me and she's like hey,
[35:26] Speaker 2: and she goes, what does it feel like to be
[35:28] Speaker 2: like a double platinum artist? And I was like, guys,
[35:32] Speaker 2: I'm not sure what does that mean? And she goes
[35:35] Speaker 2: I mean, your guys' album just went double platinum, Sabrina,
[35:39] Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, like.
[35:42] Speaker 1: You've rolled back up to the person you were like,
[35:44] Speaker 1: So I'm quitting because this doesn't make it. I can't
[35:47] Speaker 1: be double platinum and then checking people in for their
[35:49] Speaker 1: spray tands. No, ball, I actually want to test your
[35:52] Speaker 1: Disney knowledge with our rapid fire.
[35:54] Speaker 2: Let's do it.
[36:08] Speaker 1: Favorite Disney Channel show that wasn't yours?
[36:10] Speaker 2: Okay, favorite Disney Channel movie would be Johnny Tsunami.
[36:16] Speaker 1: So good.
[36:17] Speaker 2: He was so hot and I love love Brandon. He's
[36:19] Speaker 2: still the sweetest. We got to interview him, you know
[36:23] Speaker 2: he you know what his main job is right now?
[36:25] Speaker 2: He is a plea.
[36:28] Speaker 1: He's a surf instructor. No, wouldn't that be amazing? No?
[36:32] Speaker 2: He what is it called? He marries people? He's oh
[36:35] Speaker 2: he's an efficient Yes in Colorado? Wow, could you imagine
[36:40] Speaker 2: if you had Johnnysunami?
[36:42] Speaker 1: Yes, I can. I'm doing it. I don't know who I'm.
[36:49] Speaker 2: I was a huge fan of The Mickey Mouse Club,
[36:52] Speaker 2: like I'm talking justin Timberlake day. Yes, Brittany Christina so good. Gosh,
[36:58] Speaker 2: so many really.
[37:00] Speaker 1: Do make dreams come true, don't they? Favorite Disney movie
[37:04] Speaker 1: of all time?
[37:06] Speaker 2: Ooh, man, I really loved Cinderella with Brandy. Do you
[37:12] Speaker 2: remember that Roger Hammer sign and Winney Houston?
[37:15] Speaker 1: Watching that, I thought it's my gosh. And George Costanza,
[37:21] Speaker 1: he plays the whatever. Let me tell you. I remember.
[37:24] Speaker 1: I thought my mom was going to surprise me with
[37:25] Speaker 1: the movie. She didn't come home from Hollywood Video with it,
[37:29] Speaker 1: and I remember hitting her. I was, where is my
[37:34] Speaker 1: Cinderella movie?
[37:36] Speaker 2: Promised? Man?
[37:38] Speaker 1: Then I had to work to earn it all right,
[37:41] Speaker 1: But you know what I did.
[37:42] Speaker 2: I would say definitely top five. I don't know if
[37:46] Speaker 2: I can like nail it down. I really am digging
[37:49] Speaker 2: the movies. I love Moanna. I haven't seen the live
[37:52] Speaker 2: action so good. I don't care what anyone says. You
[37:56] Speaker 2: don't talk to me about the rocks, uh Wig, don't care.
[38:00] Speaker 1: I don't care.
[38:01] Speaker 2: Maui he's he's Maui and he's the rock.
[38:05] Speaker 1: He's nothing without his I can't wait.
[38:07] Speaker 2: I haven't seen that yet, but I bet you that
[38:09] Speaker 2: will probably be Ocean.
[38:10] Speaker 1: Just found out that her name is Mowanna in Hawaiian
[38:14] Speaker 1: and she tells everybody. Do you have a favorite Disney villain?
[38:18] Speaker 2: Ooh? Always loved the one Dalmatians Duella, and then.
[38:31] Speaker 1: I like the old lady with a war on her
[38:33] Speaker 1: nose and snow White. Snow White's scary. She's terrifying, scary,
[38:38] Speaker 1: She's so.
[38:38] Speaker 2: Scary on the ride Disney Disneyland. Have you been on
[38:41] Speaker 2: it in a while. Yes, they've redone it and they've
[38:43] Speaker 2: made her terrifying. It's crazy. Yeah, it is crazy. I
[38:47] Speaker 2: can't go.
[38:48] Speaker 1: I can't watch No White because it terrifies.
[38:49] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[38:50] Speaker 2: The Pinocchio ride is even worse though.
[38:51] Speaker 1: But Disney Princess, favorite Cinderella, Okay, favorite Disney Channel theme
[38:57] Speaker 1: song that.
[38:59] Speaker 2: Is so hearn ooh, Mickey mouse Club again.
[39:04] Speaker 1: I really liked the Kim Possible and Proud Family. That's
[39:08] Speaker 1: when I felt in love. Was so launch because if
[39:09] Speaker 1: you remember, on Disney Channel, they would show you the
[39:12] Speaker 1: making of the songs and they'd show the girls in
[39:14] Speaker 1: the studio making the Proud Family theme song. Wow, she
[39:19] Speaker 1: did it with Beyonce, she did it with Disney's Child.
[39:23] Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I don't think I ever knew that.
[39:25] Speaker 2: I can't wait to say that on my own podcast.
[39:28] Speaker 1: Yeah take it. If you could voice any Disney character,
[39:32] Speaker 1: who would it be?
[39:34] Speaker 2: Wow? Probably Ariel. Really, yeah, I love that that movie
[39:41] Speaker 2: I loved so much.
[39:42] Speaker 1: I'd want to be the seagull. Oh yeah, al.
[39:49] Speaker 2: Whoa what a swim?
[39:55] Speaker 1: Which Disney Channel character would be your best friend? Los
[39:59] Speaker 1: Siena guy Boulevards from Brown Family? I love her?
[40:05] Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Yeah. Oh, I think I think Daisy
[40:11] Speaker 2: seems like a rider die.
[40:13] Speaker 1: I think the duck Duck looks like she's a rider
[40:17] Speaker 1: die Like she's okay, she did this answer?
[40:21] Speaker 2: Yes, I think that she she would really jump in
[40:25] Speaker 2: front of something for Minnie Mouse, like she'd jump in
[40:27] Speaker 2: front of a bus for Minie Mouse.
[40:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, Mickey Mouse is kind of a narcissist. I feel
[40:34] Speaker 1: like my Disney like ears are raining.
[40:37] Speaker 2: I can't believe you said that about Mickey.
[40:39] Speaker 1: Oh dare you? I give a lot of unpopular opinions.
[40:56] Speaker 1: We're so happy by the way of this reboot, I'm
[40:59] Speaker 1: what is it called a reboot? What do you call?
[41:03] Speaker 2: So what it's going to be doing is really it's
[41:05] Speaker 2: going to introduce a whole new group of Chetah girls.
[41:09] Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. So it'll be interesting to see if
[41:13] Speaker 2: they grab onto these characters the way that they have
[41:16] Speaker 2: for the the OG movies. Right right. I don't know.
[41:20] Speaker 2: I would hope so I think the messaging, if it's
[41:22] Speaker 2: the same, will still resonate with kids. But like, I
[41:26] Speaker 2: feel like some of the fans are like, you know,
[41:30] Speaker 2: what it seems like is that there's it's going to
[41:34] Speaker 2: be interesting. I don't know. I don't know. I think
[41:36] Speaker 2: you're any like nervous energy because I'm like I would
[41:40] Speaker 2: hate for like, I want the fans to love whatever
[41:42] Speaker 2: the Cheata Girls is going to be.
[41:44] Speaker 1: I think they are because if you think about the
[41:47] Speaker 1: kids who were watching you guys, for the most part,
[41:50] Speaker 1: we've all become parents. Now it's going to be the
[41:53] Speaker 1: new wave. Our kids are going to be obsessed with this,
[41:57] Speaker 1: this new you know, Cheated Girls, and then we can say,
[42:00] Speaker 1: oh my gosh, this movie came out when we were kids,
[42:04] Speaker 1: and then we can go back and watch like I'm
[42:05] Speaker 1: on this kick right now where like Ocean as far
[42:08] Speaker 1: as music goes, like we're listening from every like everything
[42:11] Speaker 1: from like Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Appa, Tapa two, whatever,
[42:15] Speaker 1: Yaba Dabadoo or Drake. She loves Janish Stfu. She's like, mom,
[42:22] Speaker 1: that says bad word, I'm like ignore it, Like well, routed,
[42:27] Speaker 1: and we're going back and watching Disney movies that came
[42:30] Speaker 1: out when I was, you know, a young kid, so
[42:33] Speaker 1: like The Smart House. She just watched Life Size for
[42:35] Speaker 1: the first time with Tyra Banks. She's obsessed. Her sister,
[42:39] Speaker 1: her older sister called me, who's stepsister? She was like,
[42:44] Speaker 1: what is this movie? That ocean is talking about a
[42:47] Speaker 1: Barbie that comes to life with a twin And I'm like, oh,
[42:50] Speaker 1: Life Size a twin because we watched Parent Traps, so
[42:52] Speaker 1: she thinks that that girl's actually a twin. So that's
[42:55] Speaker 1: how I imagine it's going to go down. And I
[42:57] Speaker 1: think it's gonna be a huge freaking success, and it's
[43:00] Speaker 1: going to be such a cool moment for people who
[43:03] Speaker 1: watched the original to be able to say like, oh,
[43:06] Speaker 1: just wait, I'm going to show you how it all started.
[43:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're doing different they're also backing it up
[43:13] Speaker 2: again with a whole round of touring. So when we
[43:17] Speaker 2: were our move, like I said, Disney wasn't even expecting
[43:20] Speaker 2: us to be like this like force of music, right, They,
[43:27] Speaker 2: like I said, they didn't at first think they were
[43:29] Speaker 2: doing a soundtrack, then they did. They learned a whole
[43:31] Speaker 2: lot from it, and they came out with High School Musical. Right.
[43:36] Speaker 2: Like I said, we did a tour for the for
[43:38] Speaker 2: Christmas and we just did like a theater tour and
[43:42] Speaker 2: sold that out. And so then after we were doing
[43:45] Speaker 2: the second movie, it was like, you guys are going
[43:47] Speaker 2: to go on tour and we're going to promote the
[43:49] Speaker 2: movie and the album and do a whole tour. We
[43:52] Speaker 2: did that tour for like seven or eight months. It
[43:55] Speaker 2: was only supposed to be four months, but we sold
[43:57] Speaker 2: our numbers were doing so well. They had us like
[44:00] Speaker 2: going back and doing those like cities again and it
[44:04] Speaker 2: was like they saw touring was like just so successful, right.
[44:09] Speaker 2: And the parents. What's great about the touring for us
[44:12] Speaker 2: was you've got parents who have one kid or two kids,
[44:16] Speaker 2: and now this is getting to be their first concert
[44:19] Speaker 2: and the parents are getting the bandana and the glow
[44:23] Speaker 2: stick and the our merch records were just going razy
[44:27] Speaker 2: because they're getting it for them.
[44:28] Speaker 1: Like, by the way, I need a Cheetah Girls shirt.
[44:31] Speaker 1: I love me a merch shirt.
[44:33] Speaker 2: I'll see if I can find one.
[44:35] Speaker 1: Oh, if you can send it my way, I will, I.
[44:38] Speaker 2: Will, I'll see if I can find one. What's cool
[44:41] Speaker 2: now is they're doing these records like albums.
[44:43] Speaker 1: Like like a throwback, like the ones that.
[44:45] Speaker 2: Go on like the record a vinyl thinking they've got
[44:50] Speaker 2: vinyls now for the first movies. So then they went.
[44:53] Speaker 2: But what we were doing is it was a Cheetah
[44:55] Speaker 2: Girls tour and a high school musical tour. Miley said,
[44:58] Speaker 2: you want to hear something crazy? I just can't. The
[45:01] Speaker 2: Jonas Brothers were our opening opening act on our Christmas tour.
[45:07] Speaker 2: They were driving did you watch their doc Holli? They
[45:09] Speaker 2: drove around and like a twelve person van. They were
[45:13] Speaker 2: in that van like going behind like our tour bus.
[45:16] Speaker 2: Al was our open So they opened for Ali and
[45:19] Speaker 2: aj who opened for us. Isn't that crazy? That was
[45:23] Speaker 2: before they had really that was like kind of part
[45:26] Speaker 2: of their beginning into getting into the channel.
[45:28] Speaker 1: Wow.
[45:29] Speaker 2: Why Miley Cyrus opened for that second tour for us.
[45:32] Speaker 2: Vanessa Hudgens opened for us, an artist who was so adorable.
[45:37] Speaker 2: Jordan Pruitt opened for us. We had this great talent
[45:41] Speaker 2: coming and opening for us and then going on their
[45:44] Speaker 2: own tour. So all the tours were segregated. Now they're
[45:47] Speaker 2: doing these like World Collide, so you can go, I'm
[45:51] Speaker 2: going to take Monroe if you want to go in, Okay,
[45:54] Speaker 2: tell me one. I want this Sibby Monroe's first concert.
[45:57] Speaker 2: It's gonna be camp Rock three Kids, Descendants Kids and
[46:01] Speaker 2: Zombies Kids, and they do full blown shows. They'll have production,
[46:04] Speaker 2: they'll be amazing, they'll be my gosh, we're going.
[46:06] Speaker 1: You are going. But I have the time of my
[46:09] Speaker 1: life talking to you. I'm going to go home tonight.
[46:11] Speaker 1: I'm making popcorn with my daughter with Eminem's in the bed,
[46:16] Speaker 1: just because I told her we're doing it on a
[46:19] Speaker 1: night that I can make the popcorn. We do popcorn
[46:22] Speaker 1: in the bed like every night, and I was like,
[46:23] Speaker 1: I need a little break from the popcorn in but
[46:25] Speaker 1: tonight's the night.
[46:28] Speaker 2: But it is always there in the morning, and you're
[46:30] Speaker 2: like rolling around in the right.
[46:33] Speaker 1: That's exactly how it is. So I very much appreciate
[46:36] Speaker 1: you coming on Traditionally.
[46:38] Speaker 2: This was so incredible. When I got the call, I
[46:41] Speaker 2: couldn't believe it, and I was like, when and.
[46:43] Speaker 1: Where, when and where and here we are. We brought
[46:45] Speaker 1: her all the way from the O C right. I'm
[46:48] Speaker 1: so grateful you guys, Thank you for listening to another
[46:51] Speaker 1: episode of Untraditionally. La La I'm gonna catch you guys
[46:53] Speaker 1: next week. Bye.
