[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, Sid Roth here. Welcome to my world where it's
[0:06] Speaker 1: naturally supernatural. From Juilliard to the stages of New York
[0:11] Speaker 1: to the streets of Jerusalem, my Jewish guest has walked
[0:15] Speaker 1: a journey marked by heartache, miracles, and revelation. In her
[0:21] Speaker 1: search for truth, she discovered the missing piece.
[0:31] Speaker 2: I've thought for myself in every area of life, but one,
[0:35] Speaker 2: I knew nothing until I discovered a realm where the
[0:41] Speaker 2: truth isn't what it seems.
[0:47] Speaker 1: A realm where the truth becomes reality. I've spent over
[0:54] Speaker 1: 50 years investigating The world of the supernatural. Every moment
[1:01] Speaker 1: has led up to the main event. Millions of Jewish
[1:07] Speaker 1: people will be saved all over the world. God's heart
[1:11] Speaker 1: is for all to believe, for none to perish. It's
[1:16] Speaker 1: called the greater glory. Do you believe? It's Supernatural. Welcome
[1:28] Speaker 1: Holy Spirit go and flow my guest Lana Portnoy grew
[1:35] Speaker 1: up loving God because of her Jewish upbringing But the
[1:40] Speaker 1: world tested her faith from pain to miracles What was Lana's?
[1:48] Speaker 1: most vivid memory of growing up Jewish. I mean, the
[1:53] Speaker 1: moment she first felt what she calls, and I love this,
[1:58] Speaker 1: what she calls the God factor.
[2:02] Speaker 3: We were a family of four children, and my parents
[2:06] Speaker 3: took us to temple every Friday night. Also, we had
[2:11] Speaker 3: Sunday school, which was called, I guess, Hebrew training. And
[2:17] Speaker 3: we attended that. And I fell in love with the
[2:21] Speaker 3: Jewish music, the Hebrew. I didn't understand a word of
[2:27] Speaker 3: what they were singing, but I fell in love with
[2:30] Speaker 3: the music. I fell in love with the traditions. I
[2:34] Speaker 3: fell in love with everything about being a Jew.
[2:37] Speaker 1: Eight years old, Anna, you were diagnosed with a heart murmur.
[2:42] Speaker 1: And your mother thought it would be good for Lana
[2:45] Speaker 1: to learn to dance, to strengthen her heart. And you
[2:49] Speaker 1: wound up at one of the most prestigious dance studios
[2:52] Speaker 1: in the world, Juilliard. Tell me about that.
[2:56] Speaker 3: My mother's dream was for me to be a dancer.
[3:01] Speaker 3: I loved it when I was a child because it
[3:03] Speaker 3: was fun traveling to different places. I was on TV.
[3:08] Speaker 3: I did a lot of... recitals like every dance child does.
[3:13] Speaker 3: That was fun. Juilliard was work. Juilliard was awful work.
[3:20] Speaker 3: I lost about 15 pounds my first year.
[3:23] Speaker 1: Dancing, a professional dancer, that's hard work.
[3:28] Speaker 3: They were, most of the students came out of the
[3:31] Speaker 3: School of Performing Arts in New York. I came from
[3:35] Speaker 3: a small town. I did not have the training they had.
[3:38] Speaker 3: So I had to catch up.
[3:40] Speaker 1: How was it going to the big city, coming from
[3:43] Speaker 1: a small town?
[3:44] Speaker 3: I hated it. It was so cold. You couldn't talk
[3:49] Speaker 3: to people. If you did, they ran away from you.
[3:52] Speaker 3: They probably thought you were nuts.
[3:55] Speaker 1: So you got married young, and you had two children,
[3:59] Speaker 1: and you were out for the American dream, the very
[4:03] Speaker 1: happy life. But then you discovered something that troubled you
[4:07] Speaker 1: a great deal about your husband. What was that?
[4:10] Speaker 3: Well, we got married in the Jewish temple. He told
[4:15] Speaker 3: me he was Jewish. I knew his family was Jewish.
[4:19] Speaker 3: They came from Hungary, the background.
[4:24] Speaker 1: Now, that's my background, too. Hungary and Russia.
[4:28] Speaker 2: Yes.
[4:29] Speaker 3: So I never thought about it. We got married by
[4:32] Speaker 3: a rabbi. But after we got married, I discovered he
[4:37] Speaker 3: was an atheist. I didn't know how to handle that.
[4:43] Speaker 1: Why did it bother you so much?
[4:45] Speaker 3: Because I was so Jewish. I was in love with God.
[4:49] Speaker 3: And he was just into entertainment.
[4:52] Speaker 1: You had to have a call from God in your life.
[4:55] Speaker 1: Because as a young child, I know myself as a
[4:58] Speaker 1: young child, I just saw religion as boring. And I
[5:03] Speaker 1: never even thought about God. And here you are. You
[5:07] Speaker 1: have a passion to know him, to experience him. You
[5:12] Speaker 1: get divorced from your husband when you find out he's
[5:16] Speaker 1: an atheist. You were married nine years.
[5:19] Speaker 3: Nine years.
[5:20] Speaker 1: How'd you make a living?
[5:23] Speaker 3: I taught dancing lessons, and I also sang in supper
[5:28] Speaker 3: clubs on the weekends.
[5:31] Speaker 1: You had a pretty tough life. went after marriage a
[5:35] Speaker 1: couple more times. You had health issues. You had, according
[5:40] Speaker 1: to my notes, pleurisy, pneumonia, mononucleosis. You're raising two kids
[5:48] Speaker 1: on your own. That was a pretty hard life you had.
[5:52] Speaker 3: I cried out to God, and I said, why is
[5:56] Speaker 3: this not working? Where are you? And all I heard was,
[6:02] Speaker 3: get up. go far away, and never look back. I
[6:08] Speaker 3: did not think about this until much later. That was
[6:11] Speaker 3: the call of Abraham. I didn't know where I was going.
[6:17] Speaker 3: But my sister said to me, well, why don't you
[6:19] Speaker 3: go to Florida? You always wanted to live there. And
[6:22] Speaker 3: I don't remember ever wanting to live in Florida. I
[6:25] Speaker 3: don't know where she got that from. But I said, OK.
[6:30] Speaker 3: I had no money, just the two children. in an
[6:33] Speaker 3: old car, and I followed her Cadillac all the way
[6:36] Speaker 3: down to Florida. We took an apartment, put the children
[6:40] Speaker 3: in school, and two days later, two nights later, I
[6:45] Speaker 3: took my tambourine, got dressed up, and went to a
[6:47] Speaker 3: nightclub and got a job singing with the band.
[6:51] Speaker 1: Okay, now, then you get shock of your life. Your
[6:58] Speaker 1: children come to you, And they make an announcement no
[7:01] Speaker 1: Jewish mother wants to hear. What did they tell you?
[7:07] Speaker 3: Well, they happened to go to church with one of
[7:09] Speaker 3: the nightclub owners who used to spend time with my children.
[7:14] Speaker 3: And they took him to church. And they came through
[7:17] Speaker 3: the door.
[7:17] Speaker 1: One of the nightclub owners took your children to church?
[7:19] Speaker 3: Because they'd just gotten saved.
[7:21] Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
[7:23] Speaker 3: That was my husband's partner. I married the nightclub owner's wife.
[7:28] Speaker 3: one of the owners of the nightclub. So they went
[7:31] Speaker 3: out with my children, and they took them to church,
[7:34] Speaker 3: and they came home and said, Mommy, Jesus loves you.
[7:37] Speaker 3: All you have to do is ask him into your heart.
[7:39] Speaker 3: And I'm like, No, we're Jewish. We don't love this Jesus.
[7:46] Speaker 3: And my daughter said, Why not? I said, I don't know,
[7:48] Speaker 3: but don't tell Grandpa when he calls. Don't mention Jesus.
[7:53] Speaker 3: He calls every Sunday. And don't mention it. To him,
[7:57] Speaker 3: and don't mention that we're going through another divorce.
[7:59] Speaker 1: Somehow, God maneuvered you to hear a lecture by a
[8:04] Speaker 1: man that unintentionally led probably tens of thousands of Jewish
[8:10] Speaker 1: people to the Lord. His name, Hal Lindsey. His book,
[8:15] Speaker 1: The Late Great Planet Earth. What did you think when
[8:19] Speaker 1: he started talking about prophecy and things like that?
[8:24] Speaker 3: Well, he actually showed a slideshow of Israel. And afterwards,
[8:29] Speaker 3: Hal Lindsey started talking to me out in the kitchen.
[8:33] Speaker 3: And I said, I see the change in my friends.
[8:38] Speaker 3: They have become very beautiful. And I see the change
[8:42] Speaker 3: in their lifestyle. But I said, this is not for me.
[8:45] Speaker 3: I could never follow this man, Jesus, because I love
[8:48] Speaker 3: the Holy One of Israel. And I love being Jewish.
[8:53] Speaker 3: And he said, well, why couldn't you follow this Jesus?
[8:56] Speaker 3: He's the greatest Jew that ever lived. And I said, what?
[9:02] Speaker 1: You didn't know he was Jewish? No.
[9:05] Speaker 3: I'd never heard that Jesus was a Jew.
[9:08] Speaker 1: Hey, maybe there's someone viewing right now that needs to
[9:11] Speaker 1: hear this. Jesus was the greatest Jew who ever lived.
[9:16] Speaker 1: I'll go a step further. You know what it said
[9:18] Speaker 1: on the cross when he died for everyone's sins? King.
[9:23] Speaker 1: of the Jews. Yeah, he was the greatest Jew who
[9:27] Speaker 1: ever lived. Well, desperate for answers, Lana turned, who else,
[9:33] Speaker 1: to a rabbi for help, but left in tears. That
[9:38] Speaker 1: very night, she found the missing piece. Be right back.
[9:47] Speaker 4: Here's why the Supernatural Bible, the TSB version, is one
[9:50] Speaker 4: of the most complete Bibles you will ever see. This easy-to-read,
[9:55] Speaker 4: large-print MEV translation in the tradition of the King James
[9:58] Speaker 4: Bible is a perfect blend of current scholarship and majestic
[10:02] Speaker 4: language prized for memorizing scriptures. Highlighted commentaries for key scriptures
[10:07] Speaker 4: is like having a built-in amplified Bible. Archaic words are
[10:10] Speaker 4: accurately made clear for better understanding. In-passage chain references lead
[10:15] Speaker 4: you into deeper study. plus thumb indexing in Jesus' words
[10:18] Speaker 4: and red letters in a Bible less than two inches thick.
[10:21] Speaker 1: I wish I had this supernatural Bible when I first
[10:25] Speaker 1: became a believer. Its pages are the whitest white paper
[10:30] Speaker 1: and the most readable black print I've ever seen in
[10:34] Speaker 1: a Bible. It's jam-packed with so many extra resources that
[10:40] Speaker 1: if you were on a desert island and forced to
[10:43] Speaker 1: have just one Bible, this should be it. I made
[10:48] Speaker 1: sure that the original Hebrew names are used so both
[10:52] Speaker 1: Jewish and non-Jewish people can begin to see that the
[10:57] Speaker 1: Old and New Testaments are the most Jewish books ever written.
[11:02] Speaker 1: For example, Jesus now appears in our text as Yeshua,
[11:08] Speaker 1: which is how he would have heard it. throughout his
[11:11] Speaker 1: entire life. And Mary in our text is known by
[11:16] Speaker 1: her Hebrew name, Miriam. I also added 77 pages of resources.
[11:23] Speaker 1: For instance, I give you my own personalized scriptures that
[11:28] Speaker 1: I use every day for meditation. Additional commentaries by great
[11:35] Speaker 1: teachers are also included on healing, on Jewish cycles of blessings,
[11:42] Speaker 1: the glory of God, and messianic prophecies. And there's so
[11:47] Speaker 1: much more included.

[12:22] Speaker 1: Welcome back. Your gift, I want you to know, will
[12:25] Speaker 1: help us continue pioneering unprecedented evangelistic Jewish outreaches. Our TV
[12:34] Speaker 1: in Israel covers all of Israel. and the entire Middle
[12:38] Speaker 1: East and our social media programs are going worldwide right
[12:44] Speaker 1: now for a free digital download of my book of
[12:49] Speaker 1: the most supernatural Jewish testimonies of people having encounters with Jesus.
[12:56] Speaker 1: And when a Jewish person has an encounter with Jesus,
[13:01] Speaker 1: It usually takes a lot of effort on God's part.
[13:05] Speaker 1: We've gone several thousand years of not knowing the Messiah.
[13:10] Speaker 1: Go to Sidroth.org forward slash 9963D. The book, it's called
[13:18] Speaker 1: They Thought for Themselves. Lana was searching for truth and
[13:27] Speaker 1: visited If you're a Jew searching for truth, who are
[13:30] Speaker 1: you going to visit? A rabbi. Guess what? He could
[13:34] Speaker 1: not help her. Tell me what happened next. But even
[13:39] Speaker 1: with the rabbi, what happened with him?
[13:41] Speaker 3: I was very excited. I knew that my destiny was
[13:46] Speaker 3: tied up with getting back to God. So I made
[13:49] Speaker 3: an appointment with the rabbi, and I went to meet him,
[13:52] Speaker 3: and I told him my story. I told him that
[13:55] Speaker 3: in two weeks I was going to be out of
[13:57] Speaker 3: my home, out of my job, because my husband was
[14:01] Speaker 3: firing the band, and I had two children and nowhere
[14:05] Speaker 3: to go. But I wanted to come back to God.
[14:09] Speaker 3: I wanted to be in synagogue. I wanted the children
[14:12] Speaker 3: to have training. And I was thrilled to be there.
[14:17] Speaker 3: I just thought this was the answer. And he very nonchalantly.
[14:21] Speaker 1: Said, Of course, we just have to finalize the tuition.
[14:23] Speaker 3: Talked about needing money for the children's education. And I
[14:29] Speaker 3: just could not believe it.
[14:30] Speaker 1: You didn't have the money to pay for food and shelter.
[14:33] Speaker 1: When he left, that door seemed to be closed almost
[14:38] Speaker 1: to you.
[14:41] Speaker 3: I closed the door because I didn't think God was there.
[14:45] Speaker 1: Okay, and then shortly thereafter, you're home, probably feeling sorry
[14:51] Speaker 1: for yourself, and there's a knock at the door. Tell
[14:54] Speaker 1: me about that.
[14:54] Speaker 3: The doorbell rings, and I go to the door, and
[14:57] Speaker 3: there's a pastor. A pastor? A pastor of a church.
[15:01] Speaker 5: Okay.
[15:02] Speaker 3: Dressed in a suit in Florida.
[15:03] Speaker 1: In a suit?
[15:04] Speaker 3: Usually they wear shorts in Florida. Anyway, he was introducing
[15:09] Speaker 3: himself to me and inviting me to his church. And
[15:12] Speaker 3: he was going on and on and I started to laugh.
[15:15] Speaker 3: And he said, excuse me, why are you laughing? And
[15:18] Speaker 3: I said, well, I'm Jewish. And he said, oh, I'm sorry.
[15:22] Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sorry. Well, have a nice day.
[15:24] Speaker 3: Well, have a nice day. And he turned around and
[15:28] Speaker 3: walked away and I turned to go back into the house.
[15:32] Speaker 3: And all of a sudden I heard, wait a minute,
[15:34] Speaker 3: wait a minute. And I turned around and he was
[15:37] Speaker 3: running up that sidewalk like lightning, got right at my
[15:40] Speaker 3: face and said, if you ever go to your own
[15:44] Speaker 3: and they turn you away, you will know where to come.
[15:50] Speaker 3: Gong went off.
[15:50] Speaker 1: It was almost as if he knew what had happened
[15:53] Speaker 1: to you, your own.
[15:54] Speaker 3: But he couldn't know. He couldn't know. Nobody knew I
[15:57] Speaker 3: had been with that rabbi. I told nobody, not my family,
[16:00] Speaker 3: no one. My friends, who were the nightclub owners, were
[16:05] Speaker 3: desperately trying to get my children and I saved, obviously.
[16:09] Speaker 3: So they left me with a book of Bible prophecy,
[16:12] Speaker 3: Old Testament and New Testament of the coming of the Messiah.
[16:17] Speaker 3: I don't remember the title of it. But after I
[16:20] Speaker 3: put the children to bed, I opened up that book
[16:22] Speaker 3: and I only went to the Old Testament because I
[16:25] Speaker 3: knew the Jews wrote that. I didn't trust the New Testament.
[16:30] Speaker 3: And I started reading the scriptures the place where he
[16:34] Speaker 3: would be born, which was Bethlehem, the place that he
[16:39] Speaker 3: would die for the sins of the world, that was Jerusalem,
[16:44] Speaker 3: his suffering, and the atonement, the blood shed for our sins.
[16:50] Speaker 3: I remember the sacrifices in the Old Testament.
[16:53] Speaker 1: In the temple.
[16:54] Speaker 3: In the temple, and that was to cover our sins.
[16:57] Speaker 3: So I saw the connection between those two. And I
[17:03] Speaker 3: just kept reading the scriptures and everything just pointed to
[17:07] Speaker 3: him being the Messiah. And I also knew he had
[17:11] Speaker 3: to come before 70 A.D. because the temple was destroyed.
[17:17] Speaker 1: When you realized that Jesus was in fact the real Messiah,
[17:23] Speaker 1: you began weeping.
[17:25] Speaker 3: Sobbing.
[17:26] Speaker 1: Sobbing.
[17:28] Speaker 3: I fell on the floor and I started sobbing and I,
[17:31] Speaker 3: I cried out for all the people that didn't know
[17:34] Speaker 3: he was the Messiah, the rabbis, the scribes. To me,
[17:39] Speaker 3: it was the biggest mistake of the world. I didn't
[17:45] Speaker 3: know how they couldn't see it.
[17:48] Speaker 1: What difference has this made in your life? That now
[17:53] Speaker 1: you know Jesus the Messiah. You know your sins are forgiven.
[17:58] Speaker 1: You know you will go to heaven. You know God
[18:00] Speaker 1: will never leave you or forsake you. What difference did
[18:05] Speaker 1: it make in you?
[18:06] Speaker 3: Life changing. Absolutely. My life got transformed so beautifully by God.
[18:15] Speaker 3: I stayed in Florida. I walked off the nightclubs with
[18:19] Speaker 3: my two children. Had nowhere to go. No money. And
[18:23] Speaker 3: I left and I said, I need to find out
[18:24] Speaker 3: who I am in God, who I'm made to be.
[18:29] Speaker 3: And I took off all the glitz and glamour and
[18:32] Speaker 3: took a day job in a nursery, plant nursery. And
[18:42] Speaker 3: I had Bible studies and brown bag lunches with other
[18:45] Speaker 3: people who work there.
[18:47] Speaker 1: This is a very different lifestyle for you.
[18:50] Speaker 3: I know, but I loved it.
[18:52] Speaker 1: You made the statement that how does worship, not argument,
[18:59] Speaker 1: open Jewish hearts and wake up Christians?
[19:04] Speaker 3: Music is universal. I don't care what language. And God
[19:09] Speaker 3: uses music. He uses worship in a unique way because
[19:14] Speaker 3: it penetrates the hearts. You don't have to argue with people.
[19:18] Speaker 3: That gets you nowhere. And they get turned off by that.
[19:23] Speaker 3: Repentance comes from the goodness of the Lord. So arguing
[19:27] Speaker 3: with people doesn't work. The love of God works.
[19:31] Speaker 1: Now there's something that happened to you that provokes me
[19:34] Speaker 1: to jealousy and it's not supposed to. The Gentile according
[19:38] Speaker 1: to the Bible is to provoke the Jew to jealousy.
[19:40] Speaker 1: You're Jewish and you provoke me to jealousy. You never
[19:45] Speaker 1: can't even read music. You start playing the piano and
[19:48] Speaker 1: God's giving you songs he's giving you melodies tell me about.
[19:53] Speaker 3: That so I asked God if I could write music
[19:55] Speaker 3: for his glory and the next day he gave me
[19:59] Speaker 3: the first song I all I remember about it is
[20:03] Speaker 3: the day that I met Jesus was the first day
[20:06] Speaker 3: of my life that was the first line But I've
[20:10] Speaker 3: gone on, and he downloads it to me. I cannot
[20:13] Speaker 3: write it. I can write the words in a tablet.
[20:16] Speaker 3: I have tablets full of songs. He just downloads it
[20:20] Speaker 3: in my head. I wake up. I'm maybe praying or
[20:24] Speaker 3: studying my Bible, and all of a sudden, I get
[20:26] Speaker 3: the song. So I go to the piano. I really
[20:29] Speaker 3: don't play piano. I do now. But back then, I didn't.
[20:33] Speaker 1: That's so amazing. To me, that's amazing. It's a gift.
[20:37] Speaker 1: It is supernatural. Now, the song, Jerusalem, the soldiers in Israel,
[20:48] Speaker 1: briefly tell me about that song and the impact on
[20:52] Speaker 1: the soldiers in Israel.
[20:54] Speaker 3: Well, you know, all my life I wanted to go
[20:56] Speaker 3: to Israel. So when my trip to Israel, my first
[21:00] Speaker 3: trip to Israel, was a lifelong dream. But when we landed,
[21:05] Speaker 3: we landed in Jordan. and had to go into Israel
[21:09] Speaker 3: to the checkpoint. I had music equipment with me, and
[21:13] Speaker 3: because of that, they wouldn't let us into Israel without
[21:16] Speaker 3: it being checked. So a soldier finally came over and said,
[21:21] Speaker 3: the only way we can do this is if you
[21:23] Speaker 3: plug it in. And the leader on our trip said, well,
[21:27] Speaker 3: this little girl wrote a song for you. How would
[21:30] Speaker 3: you like to hear her sing it? She's a singer.
[21:33] Speaker 3: It's called Jerusalem. So the soldier said yes. So we
[21:37] Speaker 3: plugged the equipment in. I got the microphone and I
[21:40] Speaker 3: turned around and I started to sing Jerusalem. Everything in
[21:44] Speaker 3: that place stopped. Conveyor belt stopped. People formed a circle
[21:48] Speaker 3: around me. Soldiers, IDF soldiers. But as I was singing
[21:53] Speaker 3: the song, I looked into their faces. They were weeping.
[21:57] Speaker 3: They were weeping because in that song, there's hope. There's hope.
[22:02] Speaker 3: He's going to choose them again. He's going to protect
[22:06] Speaker 3: them with a wall of fire. That's divine protection. Fire
