[0:02] Speaker 1: I wasn't a good man. I didn't grow up with
[0:04] Speaker 1: a wrong crowd or fallen with bad influences. I made
[0:08] Speaker 1: my choices. When the trial ended, the judge said I
[0:13] Speaker 1: was the most calculated man he had ever sentenced, and
[0:17] Speaker 1: granted me life without parole, no visitors, no possibility of release.
[0:23] Speaker 1: They buried me, and that was that until she came
[0:28] Speaker 1: along that day. Guards poured me out of my cell
[0:33] Speaker 1: without a word. Two stayed at my sides, two more behind.
[0:38] Speaker 1: We passed through corridors where walls sweated under fluorescent lights.
[0:43] Speaker 1: Doors slid open ahead of us after key card scuns.
[0:47] Speaker 1: Eventually we stopped at a reinforced door. One of the
[0:52] Speaker 1: guards stepped forward and unlocked it without speaking. Cold air
[0:56] Speaker 1: drifted out into the hallway. Side was a table bolted
[1:01] Speaker 1: to the floor and two chairs, one empty, one occupied.
[1:08] Speaker 1: Her eyes were already locked on mind before I sat down.
[1:12] Speaker 1: She wore a gray suit with a faint pin stripe pattern,
[1:15] Speaker 1: hair pulled tight against her head, skin pale but without blemishes.
[1:21] Speaker 1: The guards forced me into the chair across from her,
[1:24] Speaker 1: wrists shackled to the ring at the center of the table.
[1:29] Speaker 1: She didn't introduce herself. Do you want to rot here
[1:34] Speaker 1: until your skin comes off your bones. She asked, what
[1:38] Speaker 1: do you want a chance? She sounded studio practiced. I
[1:45] Speaker 1: didn't answer. She slid a folder across the table. A
[1:49] Speaker 1: thick black clip held the pages together. I could barely
[1:54] Speaker 1: move my arms, but she didn't seem concerned with that.
[1:59] Speaker 1: There's a sigh, she said, tapping the folder with her
[2:02] Speaker 1: index finger. A cave deepest ever discovered, deeper than anything
[2:08] Speaker 1: on record. Our first expedition didn't return. She didn't blink.
[2:15] Speaker 1: They made several kilarmeters down before something killed them. We
[2:20] Speaker 1: believe it was biological, possibly sentient. She let that sit
[2:26] Speaker 1: for a second, then flip the folder open. The first
[2:31] Speaker 1: image was an aerial shot of a dense mountain range,
[2:35] Speaker 1: followed by several grainy stills of people in environmental suits
[2:39] Speaker 1: carrying gear through a jagged tunnel. We considered sending qualified personnel,
[2:45] Speaker 1: but the risk is too high. We'd rather loose some
[2:49] Speaker 1: one replaceable. You're a murderer, a terrorist. You're already a
[2:54] Speaker 1: dead man. If this doesn't work, we'll find another one
[2:58] Speaker 1: like you cheaper that way, she paused. Then she folded
[3:05] Speaker 1: her hands. You won't be alone. After a short debrief,
[3:09] Speaker 1: You'll be taken to the cave entrance with three others.
[3:12] Speaker 1: You'll be outfitted with recording devices, weaponry, and monitoring equipment.
[3:18] Speaker 1: There is a strong likelihood you will not return. If
[3:22] Speaker 1: you survive and complete the contract, you walk free. She
[3:28] Speaker 1: tapped the folder again, clean record. You pick where you
[3:33] Speaker 1: go after. My first instinct was the laugh. I hadn't
[3:42] Speaker 1: tasted outside air in over a decade. I hadn't seen
[3:45] Speaker 1: a sky without mesh across it since sentencing, so I
[3:50] Speaker 1: didn't ask whether the contract involved what they were really
[3:53] Speaker 1: looking for, or how many had already died trying to
[3:56] Speaker 1: find it. It didn't matter what I signed. I'd already
[4:01] Speaker 1: died once. If this got me out, even if it
[4:05] Speaker 1: killed me for good, I was ahead, fine, I said,
[4:12] Speaker 1: strap me in. She nodded to someone I couldn't see.
[4:18] Speaker 1: I felt the sting of a needle in my neck.
[4:21] Speaker 1: Cold spread through my spine. Before I could ask where
[4:24] Speaker 1: I'd be taken, the ceiling peeled away from me, then
[4:29] Speaker 1: the light, then everything. I woke in a bed with
[4:37] Speaker 1: clean sheets, white walls, a smooth ceiling with a built
[4:41] Speaker 1: in glow panel that lit the room without a bulb
[4:44] Speaker 1: or fixture. Before I could sit up properly. A door opened,
[4:50] Speaker 1: A man in sterile clothes stepped inside, gestured, and stepped
[4:55] Speaker 1: back without a word. I followed. It took me through
[5:00] Speaker 1: a short carried door and into a chamber where the
[5:03] Speaker 1: lights were brighter and colder. Four chairs faced the screen.
[5:08] Speaker 1: Three were already occupied. A man with a tag that
[5:12] Speaker 1: read Hollis on his shirt sat with his legs spread wide,
[5:17] Speaker 1: arms tattooed to the wrist, jaw unshaven, and a permanent
[5:21] Speaker 1: smirk planted across his face. He glanced at me and snorted.
[5:28] Speaker 1: Drew sat beside him, bold and built, thicker, his hands
[5:33] Speaker 1: clasped between his knees. He didn't react to me at all.
[5:38] Speaker 1: He stared forward with dead focus. The third was smaller,
[5:43] Speaker 1: shoulders hunched. Nervous energy rolled off her in waves. She
[5:48] Speaker 1: twitched every few seconds. Sometimes her head jerked to one side.
[5:54] Speaker 1: Sometimes her knuckles tensed then released. She'd make a strange
[6:00] Speaker 1: every once in a while. In looked involuntary. Nobody said
[6:05] Speaker 1: a word. As I sat in the last open seat,
[6:09] Speaker 1: the lights dimmed and the screen blinked on. We were
[6:13] Speaker 1: ushered into another room. After the short presentation ended. Some
[6:18] Speaker 1: vague footage of cave walls and sensata, nothing identifiable. This
[6:24] Speaker 1: one had a long table, cold steel surface, and no chairs.
[6:29] Speaker 1: A man in a black uniform stood at the far end,
[6:32] Speaker 1: holding a remote in one hand and a tablet in
[6:34] Speaker 1: the other. As you already know, he sighed, you're going underground.
[6:41] Speaker 1: You'll be outfitted. You'll be monitored, your vitals, your recordings,
[6:46] Speaker 1: every word you say will be logged. You'll have one guide.
[6:51] Speaker 1: Her name is Wren, the girl with the ticks. Presumably
[6:55] Speaker 1: Wren glanced up but didn't speak. She was part of
[6:59] Speaker 1: the firm mission, he continued. She didn't witness the attack.
[7:04] Speaker 1: She abandoned a team before it occurred. She was found
[7:07] Speaker 1: days later at the mountain base. She ran, Holly said, grinning,
[7:14] Speaker 1: you're sending us down there with a coward. Ren flinched
[7:18] Speaker 1: and her shoulders jerked. She tried to hold still, but
[7:22] Speaker 1: the tension inside her was impossible to miss. The man
[7:27] Speaker 1: ignored them both. You are explorers. You're being given an opportunity.
[7:33] Speaker 1: Find out what happened, find out what they discovered, assess
[7:37] Speaker 1: the biological threat. You will have audio and video documentation
[7:41] Speaker 1: running at all times. You will not go off plan.
[7:45] Speaker 1: You will not deviate from the root. She outlines, you
[7:48] Speaker 1: will not improvise. Do that, and you'll have a shot
[7:51] Speaker 1: at walking out. They loaded us into the back of
[7:56] Speaker 1: a truck with no windows, no light, sense of movement
[8:01] Speaker 1: beyond the vibration of the road. Beneath. Ren and I
[8:04] Speaker 1: sat across from each other, silent for most of the
[8:07] Speaker 1: first hour. Her leg bounced nervously. You're right, I asked.
[8:15] Speaker 1: She blinked hard and nodded, yeah, sorry, it's well, it's not.
[8:22] Speaker 1: She stopped and forced the head straight. It's hard sometimes
[8:28] Speaker 1: you were there before, She nodded again. What happened? Well,
[8:35] Speaker 1: she said, it's silly, but I was scared. I left
[8:40] Speaker 1: before anything even happened, as you heard. I didn't have
[8:44] Speaker 1: a reason. I guess I just kind of felt claustrophobic.
[8:47] Speaker 1: Maybe I don't know. Something about the place spooked me,
[8:51] Speaker 1: so I ran out of the cave. I'd walked all night.
[8:57] Speaker 1: I looked at her carefully. And you still don't know
[9:00] Speaker 1: why you left. I've been trying to figure it out,
[9:05] Speaker 1: especially after they questioned me a bunch of times. I
[9:08] Speaker 1: guess I did avoid danger. She seems sincere you scared
[9:15] Speaker 1: of going back in, She perked, up suddenly full of energy.
[9:21] Speaker 1: Of course, something in there killed my colleagues, and she slowed.
[9:27] Speaker 1: They told me I breached contract and I was required
[9:30] Speaker 1: to do this. After a brief pause, why are you here,
[9:37] Speaker 1: she asked, I mean really, I lit some buildings on fire,
[9:43] Speaker 1: I said, keeping the other things secret. She didn't look away.
[9:49] Speaker 1: Do you regret it? I didn't answer her right away.
[9:55] Speaker 1: I watched her instead, I guess so. Her eyes flicked
[10:02] Speaker 1: back toward me, searching for something. Maybe she found it.
[10:07] Speaker 1: She gave me a small nod, then looked away again.
[10:12] Speaker 1: When the truck stopped, they kept us inside for another
[10:15] Speaker 1: twenty minutes. When they finally opened the doors, daylight hit
[10:19] Speaker 1: me so hard I had to shield my eyes. A
[10:23] Speaker 1: dozen figures waited near a chain link gate that had
[10:26] Speaker 1: been rigged into a stretch of pale rock. They wore gear, helmets, visors,
[10:32] Speaker 1: and gloves. We looked at them in disbelief as they
[10:36] Speaker 1: pointed toward a crate full of weapons. I took a
[10:40] Speaker 1: short gun and a side arm. Harlis went straight for
[10:43] Speaker 1: the automatic rifle and smirked. When they didn't stop him.
[10:47] Speaker 1: Drew slung a belt of shells across his shoulders, and
[10:50] Speaker 1: picked up pomp action like it was a toy. He
[10:54] Speaker 1: really given us guns, Harli said, shaking his head and
[10:58] Speaker 1: turning around to face us. They gave the prison crew guns.
[11:03] Speaker 1: Hollis turned toward Wren, who backed herself against the side
[11:07] Speaker 1: of the truck. She hadn't taken anything from the crate.
[11:12] Speaker 1: What about her, he said? Do we even need her?
[11:16] Speaker 1: What if we take her hostage? Maybe walk her back out,
[11:19] Speaker 1: Tell them we want a helicopter or something. He didn't
[11:24] Speaker 1: sound serious, but he didn't sound like he was joking either.
[11:29] Speaker 1: One of the mass guards looked at him, and Hollis
[11:32] Speaker 1: piped down. He looked disappointed. I guess that wouldn't work,
[11:38] Speaker 1: would it. A man in a hazard suit gave a
[11:43] Speaker 1: final briefing. Equipment had already been staged inside ammunition, light,
[11:49] Speaker 1: nutrition packs, water. There was no communication. Once we entered,
[11:55] Speaker 1: we would document everything, follow the route, and if we
[11:59] Speaker 1: tried to exit up the doors would remain locked until
[12:02] Speaker 1: the scheduled retrieval time. The cave entrance was tiny, a
[12:08] Speaker 1: little more than a slit and stone. The walls were uneven,
[12:12] Speaker 1: jagged in some places, then smooth in others. They were
[12:16] Speaker 1: wide enough for two of us to walk side by side,
[12:19] Speaker 1: with space in between. We moved through long tunnels that
[12:23] Speaker 1: opened into chambers large enough to park air craft in.
[12:28] Speaker 1: Wren led the way. She had a tablet secured to
[12:31] Speaker 1: a vest and a laminated map strapped to a leg.
[12:35] Speaker 1: We found a flat stretch of tunnel that widened near
[12:38] Speaker 1: a wall of crossed sediment. Some one had left old
[12:42] Speaker 1: markers orange tags, half buried under dust. Wren told us
[12:48] Speaker 1: this was the first stop. We weren't expecting to reach
[12:52] Speaker 1: the next landmark until morning. We dropped gear, unrolled mats,
[12:57] Speaker 1: and sat down in the dirt. Drew, leaned against the
[13:01] Speaker 1: slap of rock, and slept. Almost immediately after a few minutes,
[13:07] Speaker 1: Wren approached me. She looked hesitant. I don't want to
[13:13] Speaker 1: be near them, she said, yeah, I know, maybe I'm
[13:17] Speaker 1: againting scared for no reason again, But I don't know
[13:22] Speaker 1: what if they do something, If they might, I said, whatever,
[13:27] Speaker 1: let's just stick together, the two of them and the
[13:30] Speaker 1: two of us. Sure, I nodded. She breathed out through
[13:36] Speaker 1: a nose and nodded again. Then she lowered her head
[13:40] Speaker 1: and mumbled something I didn't catch. We all woke up
[13:45] Speaker 1: around the same time, and nobody spoke. We just started
[13:49] Speaker 1: walking again. It was a strange situation. We all knew
[13:55] Speaker 1: we could potentially die here. Whatever had killed those researchers
[13:58] Speaker 1: were still down here, and now that we were getting closer,
[14:03] Speaker 1: that realization was sinking in deeper than ever before. A
[14:09] Speaker 1: few hours in, the cave shifted, the walls widened again,
[14:14] Speaker 1: and the floor began to level out. The slope that
[14:17] Speaker 1: had pulled us down from the start eased, but the
[14:21] Speaker 1: tunnel didn't narrow. It kept expanding in every direction. That
[14:28] Speaker 1: was the first place we saw the trail. It stretched
[14:31] Speaker 1: across the stone like someone had spilled a vatter silver
[14:34] Speaker 1: and led it cool. Long lines of dull metal fused
[14:38] Speaker 1: with the ground, following the cave's natural channels. Some parts
[14:43] Speaker 1: had pulled into circular patches. Others looked like they had
[14:47] Speaker 1: been flung out during motion. Thin trails scattered but clearly
[14:52] Speaker 1: following something's path. Wren stopped and knelt um She started
[15:01] Speaker 1: the original crew. There was a satellite scan if I
[15:04] Speaker 1: remember correctly, something in this range gave her a turn
[15:08] Speaker 1: that matched heavy rhodium content. It was a really dense
[15:11] Speaker 1: and unnatural concentration. It could have been worth a fortune,
[15:16] Speaker 1: so it's no wonder there are traces of it around.
[15:20] Speaker 1: We listened briefly. Drew talked about bringing some of it
[15:24] Speaker 1: back and potentially getting paid for it, but no one
[15:28] Speaker 1: answered him. We kept walking. More trails appeared. Some ran
[15:34] Speaker 1: along the walls, and a few looped over natural arches
[15:37] Speaker 1: over our heads. It was everywhere. It reached the junction
[15:42] Speaker 1: where the ceiling opened into a chamber almost the size
[15:46] Speaker 1: of a hangar. The walls clinted, Strips of exposed minerals
[15:51] Speaker 1: caught the low light, veins of gold, and something darker
[15:54] Speaker 1: ran to the rock, like roots frozen in place. That
[15:59] Speaker 1: was when I heard it. A series of sharp clicks
[16:03] Speaker 1: echoed behind us. They were fast. I turned. It emerged
[16:10] Speaker 1: from the bend in the tunnel without warning, moving on
[16:13] Speaker 1: all fours but rising. As it entered the open chamber,
[16:18] Speaker 1: its forearms twisted at a sick angle, ending in serrated
[16:22] Speaker 1: appendages that resembled both talons and surgical blades. Beneath its skin,
[16:28] Speaker 1: if it could be called that something pulsed in irregular spasms,
[16:32] Speaker 1: thick cables of muscle rolled beneath the fused metallic and
[16:36] Speaker 1: oily surface, as though it had been dipped in molten
[16:39] Speaker 1: chrome and left it congeal in uneven patches. Its head
[16:44] Speaker 1: was horrific elongated, tapering to a point that hovered behind
[16:49] Speaker 1: its shoulders. The jaws split downward instead of opening wide,
[16:54] Speaker 1: unhinging into four separate folds, and molten metal leaked out
[16:58] Speaker 1: in thin lines that hissed again the stone. He raised
[17:02] Speaker 1: his head and looked around, almost like he was trying
[17:05] Speaker 1: to listen. We looked at it in the silence, and
[17:10] Speaker 1: then Hollis lifted his rifle and fired it. A full
[17:16] Speaker 1: burst tore through the CAFN air Shells clattered to the ground.
[17:21] Speaker 1: The noise was deafening. Drew stepped up behind him and
[17:25] Speaker 1: joined in, racking around into the chamber with a grin.
[17:30] Speaker 1: The creature didn't even flinch, but he started moving toward them,
[17:35] Speaker 1: seemingly now alerted to their presence. It was fast and fluid.
[17:41] Speaker 1: Hollis got half a breath into another laugh before it
[17:44] Speaker 1: reached him. One swipe took his legs, another tore through
[17:49] Speaker 1: his chest. I didn't see what happened next. There was
[17:53] Speaker 1: in a sound beyond the gunshots and the wet slap
[17:56] Speaker 1: of contact. Drew kept firing and to the gun locked
[17:59] Speaker 1: open the creature pivoted toward him, Already moving, I turned
[18:06] Speaker 1: and ran, and that seemed to alert Wren. She moved
[18:10] Speaker 1: with me, and her body convulsed in both physical and
[18:13] Speaker 1: vocal ticks. The shots behind us faded, then there was nothing.
[18:20] Speaker 1: Wren gasped, her mouth opened, but she didn't speak. I
[18:25] Speaker 1: pushed the harder toward us. Split in the tunnel, her
[18:27] Speaker 1: heead We moved fast and low, and I started to
[18:32] Speaker 1: realize something. It was blind. I slowed, pulling her behind
[18:40] Speaker 1: a wall of rock with the ground dipped. Her head shook.
[18:44] Speaker 1: She kept whispering something beneath, her breath, split up by
[18:47] Speaker 1: involuntary yelps that were too loud for comfort. You have
[18:52] Speaker 1: to stop. Do you hear me? She nodded hard, her
[18:57] Speaker 1: jaw clenched tight. Sweat ran down the sante of her
[19:00] Speaker 1: face and streaks, and her whole body trembled from the
[19:03] Speaker 1: effort of holding still. I can't see he can only
[19:07] Speaker 1: hear us. You have to stay quiet. She nodded again,
[19:14] Speaker 1: and this time her body stilled, not entirely, but enough.
[19:20] Speaker 1: We moved without speaking. Every step felt calculated, every breath
[19:25] Speaker 1: too loud. The tunnels narrowed again as we descended behind us.
[19:33] Speaker 1: Sounds from the creature could still be heard, but it
[19:36] Speaker 1: was far enough away to give us some hope of survival.
[19:40] Speaker 1: Not even bullets damaged it, so our best bet was
[19:43] Speaker 1: to try sneak past it. Somehow, we entered another chamber,
[19:48] Speaker 1: smaller than the last one, but wide enough of the
[19:51] Speaker 1: darkness to stretch past the range of our lights. The
[19:55] Speaker 1: ceiling bowed downward. They stepped around a jagged edge and
[19:59] Speaker 1: nearly tripped over a body, or what was left of it.
[20:04] Speaker 1: It wore a suit, or what had been a suit.
[20:07] Speaker 1: Once the fabric had fused. The limbs torn open across
[20:11] Speaker 1: the chest and peeled back at the shoulder. The skin
[20:15] Speaker 1: beneath had dried into something gray, stiff, and hollow. I
[20:20] Speaker 1: counted three more nearby. Wren knelt slowly next to one
[20:25] Speaker 1: of the bodies. I knew her. She whispered, but there
[20:31] Speaker 1: was no time for reminiscing or anything of the sort.
[20:35] Speaker 1: I tapped on the shoulder and gestured for her to move.
[20:40] Speaker 1: The tunnel dropped hard. After that, we slid down a
[20:44] Speaker 1: slope that forced us onto our hands, boots scraping loose rock.
[20:49] Speaker 1: The air was changing again, hot, and now not from
[20:52] Speaker 1: the strain. It hit my face before we saw the sauce.
[20:57] Speaker 1: Then we rounded a bend and the floor or dropped
[21:00] Speaker 1: out into a massive chasm. Rhn and I stared in
[21:05] Speaker 1: disbelief as a lake stretched out in front of us,
[21:09] Speaker 1: smooth as glass, not one made of water, but rather
[21:14] Speaker 1: molten metal, gold, silver, blue, all bleeding into each other
[21:19] Speaker 1: in an endless loop. Heat poured from the surface. Sweat
[21:24] Speaker 1: ran down my back in slow waves. My hands felt
[21:28] Speaker 1: down beside my gloves. I thought about how this was possible.
[21:33] Speaker 1: Surely the heat from the molten metal itself would have
[21:36] Speaker 1: killed us by now, But my attempts at rationalization were
[21:40] Speaker 1: interrupted by a clicking sound behind us, and a realization
[21:46] Speaker 1: that we had just reached a dead end. We moved
[21:50] Speaker 1: to the side and took cover behind a jagged ridge
[21:52] Speaker 1: of stone at the lake's edge. It was a match
[21:56] Speaker 1: enough to break the line of sight, maybe enough to
[21:59] Speaker 1: muffle sound. Rent's body convulsed and she put both hands
[22:04] Speaker 1: over her mouth butt. If she made a single sound,
[22:10] Speaker 1: we die. I could feel the creature approaching. The air
[22:16] Speaker 1: shifted as it entered the chamber. She reached for me,
[22:21] Speaker 1: her fingers closed around my arm, trembling her eyes met mine.
[22:27] Speaker 1: She knew I looked at her. I didn't say anything.
[22:33] Speaker 1: There wasn't time. Even a whisper could have ended it.
[22:37] Speaker 1: She mouthed something. I raised the shotgun. Her head shook,
[22:44] Speaker 1: small and sharp. Her lips trembled, but she didn't speak.
[22:50] Speaker 1: Her hand tightened around my arm. I felt her fingernails
[22:54] Speaker 1: through the fabric. She tried to pull back. Her mouth opened,
[23:00] Speaker 1: no sound came out. Her eyes screamed. I fired. Her
[23:07] Speaker 1: head snapped sideways, gone before the rest of her had
[23:11] Speaker 1: time to fall. Blood hit the rock behind us in
[23:14] Speaker 1: a wet splash. Her body collapsed to my feet. The
[23:19] Speaker 1: creature sprung into motion. I could hear it. It stood
[23:24] Speaker 1: on top of the rock I was hiding and slowly
[23:27] Speaker 1: dropped itself down. His tail ran right past my arm,
[23:31] Speaker 1: and it seemed to inspect Wren's body. It lifted her
[23:36] Speaker 1: up by the torso and walked out of view. I
[23:40] Speaker 1: could hear the liquid sloshing. Curiosity got the better of me.
[23:46] Speaker 1: I peeked around the corner to see the monster slowly
[23:49] Speaker 1: walking into the lake of metal, Wren's body in tow
[23:54] Speaker 1: The surface took both of them, metal folding upward to
[23:57] Speaker 1: embrace its body as it was scended into the glowing pool.
[24:03] Speaker 1: Then he was gone. The lake smoothed over again, silent still,
[24:12] Speaker 1: as if nothing had ever broken its surface. I didn't
[24:17] Speaker 1: know how long it would stay submerged, but I wasn't
[24:21] Speaker 1: going to give it time to come back. I stood
[24:25] Speaker 1: and ran. I followed the same path we'd taken down,
[24:30] Speaker 1: or close to it. I kept one hand on the
[24:33] Speaker 1: rock to guide my turns. Everything looked different on the
[24:36] Speaker 1: way up. Eventually I reached the chamber where Drew had fallen.
[24:42] Speaker 1: His body was bent in half across a flat boulder,
[24:45] Speaker 1: split from the ribs down. I recognized the boots before
[24:49] Speaker 1: I saw the rest. Hollis lay a few feet away,
[24:53] Speaker 1: or at least most of them did. His rifle was
[24:56] Speaker 1: still in one hand, his other hand was missing. I
[25:00] Speaker 1: kept moving. By the time I saw the faint blue
[25:04] Speaker 1: glow of the reinforced entrance, I couldn't feel my legs
[25:08] Speaker 1: any more. Two guards stood at the threshold. The helmets
[25:12] Speaker 1: reflected my face as I stumbled forward. Neither of them
[25:16] Speaker 1: moved until I crossed the final threshold and fell to
[25:20] Speaker 1: my knees. I didn't speak, They didn't either. One of
[25:27] Speaker 1: them stepped forward and removed the shotgun from my back.
[25:30] Speaker 1: The other one retrieved the body. Calm, they helped me
[25:33] Speaker 1: to my feet and led me into transport. A little
[25:38] Speaker 1: while later, she sat across from me again, in the
[25:41] Speaker 1: same suit. We reviewed your footage. She said, your documentation
[25:48] Speaker 1: exceeded expectations. She flipped through a few pages. What happened
[25:55] Speaker 1: to Wren was unfortunate. She closed the folder and pushed
[26:01] Speaker 1: it aside. You've done your part, she gestured toward the door.
[26:08] Speaker 1: The hallway stretched in front of me, too bright to
[26:11] Speaker 1: focus on. A man in black uniform walked me through
[26:15] Speaker 1: two checkpoints, then into another chamber. He handed me a
[26:20] Speaker 1: small envelope. Inside were travel documents, a debit card, and
[26:25] Speaker 1: a folded sheet with my new credentials. I was escorted outside,
[26:32] Speaker 1: and just like that, I was alone. I walked until
[26:38] Speaker 1: the facility shrank behind me, nothing more than a shape
[26:42] Speaker 1: at the edge of stone. I was free.
