## Transcript

[0:23] Hi, everybody, and welcome to today's Chinese Port Lesson.
[0:25] I'm Joe. In.
[0:31] Today's class we are going to talk about the weather.
[0:34] How do we say weather in Chinese?
[0:36] Tianji. And what would be some
[0:39] adjectives that we can use to describe weather hot?
[0:45] Long. Cold.
[0:47] How? Good.
[0:50] Boo, how? Not good.
[0:53] So let's check out the dialogue and check how the weather is in.
[1:02] This 1.
[1:22] TNT. After listening to this
[1:52] dialogue, let's break it down line by line.
[1:56] Jin Qian Qin Qi ZE Mahyang. How is the weather today?
[2:02] Jin Qian, Qin Qi, the Mahyang. How is the weather today?
[2:07] Jin Qian Qin Qi, The Mahyang Qian Qi Hen Xu.
[2:14] The weather is very hot. Qian Qi.
[2:18] Hen Xu. The weather is.
[2:23] Very hot. Is it very sunny?
[2:33] Is it very? Sunny.
[2:43] Yes, remember to take a parasol. Yes, remember to take a parasol
[2:54] in this dialogue. We have two roommates and one of
[2:56] the roommates is just coming back home from outside and then
[2:59] the other is asking about the weather outside.
[3:01] So what is the first question? Qin Qin Qi.
[3:07] So here we have the word for weather again, what we've just
[3:10] told you. Qin Qi.
[3:13] Qin Qi. And this is followed by a three
[3:17] word phrase which means how? The Ma Yang.
[3:22] The Ma Yang. So those two parts together
[3:27] already would just be, oh, how is the weather?
[3:30] Qin Qi, the Ma Yang. And in front of this, we only
[3:34] have another word that means today.
[3:37] Qin, Qin. So it all becomes today.
[3:39] How is the weather? Qin Qin Qi, the Ma Yang.
[3:44] And then the answer to this is very similar as well.
[3:47] We have the weather again and then the adjective to it and
[3:51] with another word in the middle. Hen.
[3:54] This hen means very but sometimes it's more loose used
[3:57] as A to be as well. So it's just the weather is hot.
[4:10] In the beginning we told you some other adjectives that fit
[4:12] the weather as well. So what else could we say
[4:15] instead of here? Tianxi Hen Long.
[4:20] So the weather is very cold. Tianxi hen hao.
[4:25] The weather is good. Tianxi henbu hao.
[4:30] And the weather's not good at all.
[4:34] Of course, we can use this some young structure, not only with
[4:37] the weather but with other things as well.
[4:39] What would be some other things you can ask?
[4:43] Xinxing some. How's my mood?
[4:47] It's good my work, of course, it's very good as well.
[5:04] I just moved and I have a couple of problems there, so it's not
[5:08] good. We know already that the weather
[5:15] is very hot, but the questions don't stop here.
[5:18] So what's the next question to the roommate?
[5:21] So you can. See that it is a question by the
[5:27] question particle in the end, but the question starts with the
[5:29] word for sun. Tai Yang.
[5:36] And this is followed again by this hen word which means very,
[5:40] and this time it's paired with another adjective.
[5:43] What's the adjective here? TA.
[5:46] And TA means big. So he's actually asking, is the
[5:49] sun very big? But of course he's not asking
[5:53] about the size. But this is just the way you can
[5:56] ask about whether the sun is shining outside in Chinese.
[6:00] So is the sun very big? And.
[6:04] The answer is yes. The roommate then confirms this
[6:10] and tells the other roommate to remember bringing something.
[6:18] So what is she supposed to bring?
[6:21] Young son. That's a parasol.
[6:28] And what is the verb we use with taking an umbrella?
[6:35] So this then together would be to bring a parasol.
[6:38] Thai young son. And then there's another two
[6:43] word combination in front of this, which means remember to do
[6:46] something. OK, so together it's then
[6:54] remember to take a parasol. Thai young son.
[6:59] And sometimes when it's when it's raining or when it's just
[7:03] the umbrella or you should just take it, you can just say two
[7:07] word combination out of two bring and just the word for
[7:09] umbrella as well. Exactly.
[7:13] The word sun refers to any umbrella shaped object.
[7:17] So we can use this to build, for example, an umbrella or a
[7:20] parasol or maybe some other things as well.
[7:22] But how would we say umbrella in Chinese?
[7:26] Sun. And what was parasol again?
[7:29] Young Sun. OK, so you notice only the words
[7:33] in the beginning are different. So what?
[7:35] What was the first word of Umbrella?
[7:37] The first character? So this is rain.
[7:44] And then the other one was? Young Tai Yong the young.
[7:50] OK, so here there's the sun inside.
[7:52] So one is the sun umbrella and the other one is the rain
[7:56] umbrella shaped object. So Lin, if the weather was bad,
[8:00] what would the roommate have to remember taking outside?
[8:07] OK, but if we talk about other things than the weather, of
[8:10] course you have to remember taking many, many things once
[8:13] you leave the house. So what would be other things
[8:15] that we have to remember taking? Oh, the keys, your wallet.
[8:27] And. Of course, the cell phone and in
[8:32] addition, you can actually change the verb here to take to
[8:36] something else as well. So in this case, this to
[8:39] remember doing something becomes a very nice structure that you
[8:42] can take for other things. So, for instance, if we remember
[8:47] or imagine our moms telling us what to do, what to remember
[8:53] what, what could she say? Cheetah Chew fan.
[8:57] Remember to eat to eat your meals.
[9:00] Cheetah Shi Zhao. Oh yeah, remember to take a good
[9:04] rest and sleep. Cheetah, Guangdong and.
[9:09] Before going to bed, of course, remember to turn off the lights.
[9:13] Now that we have discussed all the details, let's go back and
[9:16] check out the dialogue again. Greetings everyone and welcome
[9:19] to Chinese Paw Trivia. Our first question is how long
[9:27] will it take you to become an intermediate tiny speaker using
[9:30] the Chinese Pod app? Is it A the rest of your life B
