[0:04] Proverbs, Chapter 20. Wine is a mocker, strong drink,
[0:10] a riotous brawler, and whoever is intoxicated by it is not
[0:16] wise. The terror of a king is like the
[0:19] roaring of a lion. Whoever provokes him to anger
[0:24] forfeits his own life. It is an honor for a man to keep
[0:30] away from strife by handling situations with thoughtful
[0:34] foresight. But any fool will start a
[0:37] quarrel without regard for the consequences.
[0:42] The lazy man does not plow when the winter planting season
[0:46] arrives, so he begs at the next harvest and has nothing to reap.
[0:53] A plan or motive or wise counsel in the heart of a man is like
[0:59] water in a deep well, but a man of understanding draws it out.
[1:05] Many a man proclaims his own loyalty and goodness, but who
[1:11] can find a faithful and trustworthy man?
[1:16] The righteous man who walks in integrity and lives life in
[1:21] accord with his godly beliefs? How blessed, happy and
[1:26] spiritually secure are his children after him who have his
[1:31] example to follow. A discerning king who sits on
[1:36] the throne of judgement, sifts all evil like chaff with his
[1:41] eyes and cannot be easily fooled.
[1:45] Who can say I have cleansed my heart, I am pure from my sin.
[1:51] Differing weights, one for buying and another for selling
[1:56] and differing measures, both of them are detestable and
[2:01] offensive to the Lord. Even a boy is known and
[2:05] distinguished by his acts, whether his conduct is pure and
[2:10] right. The hearing ear and the seeing
[2:14] eye. The omnipotent Lord has made
[2:17] both of them. Do not love excessive sleep or
[2:22] you will become poor. Open your eyes so that you can
[2:27] do your work and you will be satisfied.
[2:30] With bread. It is almost worthless.
[2:33] It is almost worthless, says the buyer as he negotiates the
[2:38] price. But when he goes his way, then
[2:41] he boasts about his bargain. There is gold and an abundance
[2:47] of pearls, but the lips of knowledge are a vessel of
[2:51] preciousness, the most precious of all.
[2:55] The judge tells the creditor, Take the clothes of one who is
[3:00] surety for a stranger, and hold him in pledge when he guarantees
[3:06] a loan for foreigners. Food gained by deceit is sweet
[3:12] to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with
[3:16] gravel, just as sin may be sweet at first, but later its
[3:22] consequences bring despair. Plans are established by
[3:27] counsel, so make war only with wise guidance.
[3:32] He who goes about as a gossip reveals secrets.
[3:37] Therefore, do not associate with a gossip who talks freely or
[3:42] flatters. Whoever curses his father or his
[3:46] mother. His lamp of life will be
[3:49] extinguished in time of darkness.
[3:53] An inheritance hastily gained by greedy, unjust means at the
[3:58] beginning will not be blessed in the end.
[4:02] Do not say I will repay evil. Wait expectantly for the Lord,
[4:08] and He will rescue and save you. Differing weights are detestable
[4:14] and offensive to the Lord, and fraudulent scales are not good.
[4:20] Man's steps are ordered and ordained by the Lord.
[4:25] How then can a man fully understand his way?
[4:29] It is a trap for a man to speak a vow of consecration, and say
[4:35] rashly it is holy, and not until afterward consider whether he
[4:41] can fulfill it. A wise king sifts out the wicked
[4:45] from among the good, and drives the threshing wheel over them to
[4:50] separate the chaff from the grain.
[4:54] The spirits or conscience of man is the lamp of the Lord,
[4:59] searching and examining all the innermost parts of his being.
[5:04] Loyalty and mercy, truth and faithfulness protect the King,
[5:11] and he upholds his throne by loving kindness.
[5:15] The glory of young men is their physical strength, and the honor
[5:21] of aged men is their Gray head, representing wisdom and
[5:27] experience. Blows that wound cleanse away
[5:31] evil, and strokes reach to the innermost parts.
