[0:04] Proverbs Chapter 6 My son, if you have become surety or
[0:10] guaranteed a debt or obligation for your neighbor.
[0:15] If you have given your pledge for the debt of a stranger or
[0:20] another outside your family. If you have been snared with the
[0:25] words of your lips, if you have been trapped by the speech of
[0:29] your mouth, do this now, my son, and release yourself from the
[0:36] obligation. Since you have come into the
[0:39] hand of your neighbor, go humble yourself and plead with your
[0:44] neighbor to pay his debt and release you.
[0:48] Give no unnecessary sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your
[0:54] eyelids. Tear yourself away like a
[0:57] gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and like a bird from the
[1:02] hand of the Fowler. Go to the Ant, Oh lazy one,
[1:08] observe her ways and be wise, Which having no chief overseer
[1:14] or ruler, she prepares her food in the summer and brings in her
[1:20] provisions of food for the winter in the harvest.
[1:24] How long will you lie down, oh lazy one?
[1:28] When will you arise from your sleep and learn self-discipline?
[1:34] Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the
[1:39] hands to lie down and rest. So your poverty will come like
[1:44] an approaching prowler who walks slowly but surely, and your need
[1:49] will come like an armed man, making you helpless, a worthless
[1:54] person. A wicked man is one who walks
[1:58] with a perverse or corrupt vulgar mouth, who winks with his
[2:03] eyes in mockery, who shuffles his feet to signal, who points
[2:09] with his fingers to give subversive instruction, who
[2:13] perversely in his heart plots trouble and evil continually,
[2:19] who spreads discord and strife. Therefore the crushing weight of
[2:25] his disaster will come suddenly upon him.
[2:30] Instantly he will be broken, and there will be no healing or
[2:34] remedy, because he has no heart for God.
[2:38] These six things the Lord hates, indeed 7 are repulsive to him, a
[2:45] proud look, the attitude that makes 1 overestimate oneself and
[2:50] discount others. A lying tongue and hands that
[2:55] shed innocent blood, a heart that creates wicked plans, feet
[3:01] that run swiftly to evil, a false witness who breathes out
[3:06] lies, even half truths, and one who spreads discord or rumors
[3:12] among brothers. My son, be guided by your
[3:17] Father's God-given commandments or instruction, and do not
[3:22] reject the teaching of your mother.
[3:25] Bind them continually upon your hearts or in your thoughts and
[3:30] tie them around your neck when you walk about.
[3:34] They, or the godly teachings of your parents, will guide you.
[3:40] When you sleep they will keep watch over you, and when you
[3:45] awake they will talk to you. For the commandment is a lamp,
[3:50] and the teaching of the law is light, and reproofs or rebukes
[3:56] for discipline are the way of life.
[3:59] To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the smooth
[4:03] tongue of an immoral woman. Do not desire or lust after her
[4:09] beauty in your heart, nor let her capture you with her
[4:13] eyelashes. 4 On account of a prostitute, one is reduced to a
[4:18] piece of bread to be eaten up, and the immoral woman hunts with
[4:24] a hook. The precious life of a man.
[4:28] Can a man take fire to his chest and his clothes not be burned?
[4:33] Or can a man walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched?
[4:38] So is the one who goes into his neighbor's wife.
[4:42] Whoever touches her will not be found innocent or go unpunished.
[4:48] People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself
[4:53] when he is hungry, but when he is found, he must repay 7 times
[4:58] what he stole. He must give all the property of
[5:02] his house if necessary to meet his fine.
[5:06] But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks common sense
[5:10] and sound judgement and an understanding of moral
[5:14] principles. He who would destroy his soul
[5:18] does it. Wounds and disgrace he will
[5:22] find, and his reproach or blame will not be blotted out.
[5:28] For jealousy enrages the wronged husband.
[5:32] He will not spare the guilty one on the day of vengeance.
[5:37] He will not accept any ransom offered to buy him off from
[5:41] demanding full punishment, nor will he be satisfied, though you
[5:46] offer him many gifts or bribes. Thank you for tuning into the
[5:52] Audio Bible podcast today. This has been Proverbs chapter 6
[5:56] from the Word of God.
