[0:01] Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, the truth about sorority life, with
[0:04] Speaker 1: your hosts, me.
[0:05] Speaker 2: Gia Giudice, Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Fessler.
[0:11] Speaker 3: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
[0:14] Speaker 4: I'm Joan Bassos, joined by my friend Trista Sutter, and
[0:17] Speaker 4: today we are jumping into part two of our producer
[0:20] Speaker 4: college takeover.
[0:21] Speaker 3: Let's jump in.
[0:22] Speaker 5: Now we have two of our producers who touched down
[0:25] Speaker 5: on the Ole Miss campus.
[0:27] Speaker 2: We're really excited to hear.
[0:29] Speaker 5: about your experience at Ole Miss and all the details
[0:32] Speaker 5: that you found out. So what is the biggest thing
[0:36] Speaker 5: that I guess is kind of your remembering about or
[0:41] Speaker 5: most impacted you about your visit to Ole Miss?
[0:45] Speaker 1: So I come from a school of way like smaller,
[0:48] Speaker 1: like small school sorority wise. So going to Ole Miss
[0:52] Speaker 1: was just like insane.
[0:54] Speaker 6: And I think.
[0:54] Speaker 2: Where did you go? Sorry to interrupt. No, no, you're okay.
[0:58] Speaker 1: I went to Cal, I go to Cal state Northridge
[1:00] Speaker 1: and like they have sororities, but it's very, it's a
[1:02] Speaker 1: commuter school for me. So I never thought to join,
[1:06] Speaker 1: but I have friends that are in it and they,
[1:09] Speaker 1: they even say themselves, it's very small. And yeah, going
[1:12] Speaker 1: to Ole Miss and seeing, we.
[1:14] Speaker 7: Actually went when they were rushing. So we got to
[1:17] Speaker 7: see the girls run home and everything.
[1:19] Speaker 1: And I think for me, me and Stas went ahead
[1:23] Speaker 1: and we went ahead before they ran home and saw
[1:28] Speaker 1: the houses all decked out. And I think it was
[1:31] Speaker 1: just crazy to see the amount of effort and I'm
[1:35] Speaker 1: sure time. And I'm also sure money put into these houses.
[1:38] Speaker 1: And I told Stas, I told Sasa, I was like,
[1:40] Speaker 1: it's like walking on candy cane lane.
[1:43] Speaker 7: Like it's like Christmas.
[1:43] Speaker 1: Lights watching, but with, with, with sorority houses and it
[1:47] Speaker 1: was just insane.
[1:48] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[1:48] Speaker 8: But better, but better.
[1:51] Speaker 7: So I think that's the main thing that stood out
[1:53] Speaker 7: for me.
[1:53] Speaker 1: And also just seeing how into it they are, especially
[1:56] Speaker 1: the parents as well. I didn't expect the parents like
[1:59] Speaker 1: that were going to be as excited as the girls,
[2:01] Speaker 1: maybe even more excited, but it was crazy to see.
[2:05] Speaker 4: So the parents show up for what preference day or.
[2:11] Speaker 7: For rush for the whole thing.
[2:13] Speaker 2: Actually, I have a friend for a bid day.
[2:17] Speaker 6: They just show up for a bid day.
[2:21] Speaker 5: OK, well, I will say I have a friend who
[2:24] Speaker 5: rushed from Vail, Colorado at not Ole Miss, but Bama.
[2:28] Speaker 5: We were just talking about Bama. And my friend went
[2:31] Speaker 5: out there for two weeks and stayed in a hotel
[2:34] Speaker 5: with her daughter while she was going through Rush.
[2:36] Speaker 2: I don't know if that's normal at.
[2:38] Speaker 5: Bama, but it is good to hear that at least
[2:40] Speaker 5: Ole Miss, they just come for bid day. Because I
[2:43] Speaker 5: feel like, why not let these girls experience it? It's their-
[2:48] Speaker 5: you know, like, yes, maybe be there to help them
[2:51] Speaker 5: pick out their outfit, but you can do that over
[2:52] Speaker 5: Zoom or WhatsApp or, you know.
[2:55] Speaker 4: And it kind of motivates them, especially if they're freshmen,
[2:58] Speaker 4: to meet somebody else. So like you're now going through
[3:00] Speaker 4: this experience with somebody and like to have somebody to
[3:04] Speaker 4: commiserate with.
[3:05] Speaker 3: And talk about your outfits and not have it be
[3:07] Speaker 3: your mother anymore. It's been your mom for 18 years.
[3:10] Speaker 4: Like this is such a good time to branch out
[3:13] Speaker 4: and rely on somebody else and form some bonds like
[3:16] Speaker 4: early on. I mean, some people like made their best
[3:18] Speaker 4: friends like the first week of school. Totally.
[3:21] Speaker 8: Yeah.
[3:21] Speaker 2: Totally.
[3:22] Speaker 6: Something like I, I think with the parents that I
[3:24] Speaker 6: noticed there is that we didn't talk to a single
[3:27] Speaker 6: parent who wasn't also in either the same.
[3:31] Speaker 8: Story with some type of legacy.
[3:32] Speaker 6: So like for them, it was like, this is their
[3:36] Speaker 6: daughters coming out to society in a sense of, This
[3:40] Speaker 6: is everything that we've like worked for, like until she
[3:43] Speaker 6: was born, we had a daughter, we knew that she
[3:45] Speaker 6: was going to be in sorority, it was like literally
[3:47] Speaker 6: seen like it was life or death. Oh, like, that
[3:51] Speaker 6: bid day card open. I mean, we were standing out there.
[3:53] Speaker 6: And the only reason that we knew the girls were
[3:55] Speaker 6: even going to start running out was because the daughters
[3:57] Speaker 6: would text the mom's. And tell them the house that
[4:00] Speaker 6: they got and they would start screaming.
[4:02] Speaker 8: And crying and hugging one another.
[4:04] Speaker 6: Being like, oh my gosh, she got Katie like, and
[4:08] Speaker 6: they're all freaking out.
[4:09] Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
[4:10] Speaker 6: That was like, kind of like, oh, I see how,
[4:13] Speaker 6: and they get so dressed up and they like wear
[4:15] Speaker 6: their colors or, and it's.
[4:18] Speaker 8: Like, it's a whole thing with the parents.
[4:21] Speaker 5: Did you feel like like as a mom who will
[4:24] Speaker 5: have a daughter going through it, maybe possibly next year,
[4:27] Speaker 5: not at Ole Miss, I don't think, but do you
[4:30] Speaker 5: think it's like your vibe on these parents? Do you
[4:34] Speaker 5: feel like they were being helicopter moms or do you
[4:37] Speaker 5: feel like it was so sweet of them to be there?
[4:39] Speaker 5: Like what was the vibe that you were getting?
[4:41] Speaker 8: I think such a mix of both, honestly. Yeah, I agree.
[4:46] Speaker 8: I think a mix of both.
[4:47] Speaker 6: Like I, I think for them, it was helicopter mom
[4:50] Speaker 6: in the sense of she's going to get a sorority
[4:52] Speaker 6: and she's going to get a house. But then it
[4:55] Speaker 6: was also like, I don't know if it was necessarily
[4:57] Speaker 6: she has to have this house or she needs to
[4:59] Speaker 6: be in my house. Like I remember talking to a
[5:01] Speaker 6: lot of families and it was different houses amongst like
[5:04] Speaker 6: the mom and the aunt and then the grandma and
[5:07] Speaker 6: like different, even different schools too. I know like SEC schools,
[5:10] Speaker 6: it's so like Ole Miss, Alabama sucks or Tennessee sucks.
[5:13] Speaker 8: Like we met a lot of people like that too.
[5:15] Speaker 6: So it wasn't, I don't think it was too helicopter-y,
[5:18] Speaker 6: but I think in a sense it was, she's going
[5:20] Speaker 6: to be in a house and she needs to be
[5:22] Speaker 6: in a house.
[5:23] Speaker 5: Understood. Yeah.
[5:24] Speaker 2: Okay.
[5:24] Speaker 3: And I do like kind of feel that way. I
[5:26] Speaker 3: know my daughter.
[5:27] Speaker 5: Okay.
[5:27] Speaker 4: So I have a daughter who went to college in,
[5:31] Speaker 4: I've got to remember what year, 2015.
[5:35] Speaker 3: No, 2013.
[5:39] Speaker 7: I'm old.
[5:39] Speaker 4: She's old.
[5:40] Speaker 3: She's in her thirties now.
[5:42] Speaker 4: And her best friend went to Ole Miss and, um,
[5:45] Speaker 4: You know, there's part of me that doesn't understand how
[5:48] Speaker 4: she didn't get in a house. She was probably the
[5:50] Speaker 4: prettiest girl in my daughter's class. She was really fun.
[5:53] Speaker 3: Everybody loved her.
[5:53] Speaker 4: Her name was Grayson. Everybody loved her. And she came
[5:56] Speaker 4: back from Ole Miss. And she actually, I don't think,
[5:58] Speaker 4: went back after her freshman year.
[6:00] Speaker 3: She quit. She ended up going to school up in
[6:02] Speaker 3: New York City.
[6:03] Speaker 4: I don't know if she was maybe too like northeast
[6:07] Speaker 4: kind of girl. So I live in Maryland. So we're
[6:09] Speaker 4: living to be a little urban with it right outside
[6:11] Speaker 4: of D.C. I wonder if maybe she just didn't fit in.
[6:14] Speaker 4: But how hard is it when and like the way
[6:17] Speaker 4: you're talking about the moms are even like that invested
[6:20] Speaker 4: in it. Like how hard is it if you don't
[6:22] Speaker 4: get in a house?
[6:23] Speaker 8: I can't imagine.
[6:24] Speaker 2: Or you're not from there.
[6:25] Speaker 8: Yeah.
[6:26] Speaker 2: Or you're not from there. Like how hard is it
[6:28] Speaker 2: to get in the houses?
[6:30] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[6:30] Speaker 8: To be a part of it.
[6:32] Speaker 6: One story that I totally remember was we were sitting
[6:34] Speaker 6: at a diner with this mom and daughter and she
[6:38] Speaker 6: was actually, she was a PNM going through recruitment.
[6:41] Speaker 8: And I remember her telling us.
[6:43] Speaker 6: About how the letters of rec are really hard to get,
[6:46] Speaker 6: especially when you're not from the South. So they have
[6:49] Speaker 6: a group chat of moms that all come together to
[6:52] Speaker 6: help get their daughters all letter of recommendations because then
[6:55] Speaker 6: she was telling me, that they always say like letter
[6:58] Speaker 6: of recommendations technically aren't needed or like they you don't
[7:02] Speaker 6: have to have them um but she said the two
[7:04] Speaker 6: houses that she didn't have letter of recommendations from those
[7:06] Speaker 6: were the two that she got immediately dropped from first
[7:09] Speaker 6: yeah so i think it's a i think it's probably
[7:13] Speaker 6: a lot harder not coming from the south not already
[7:17] Speaker 6: being a legacy because that.
[7:18] Speaker 8: Was like another thing that they said was everyone's a.
[7:20] Speaker 6: Legacy so unless you're like a third or fourth like
[7:23] Speaker 6: legacy then maybe that's when you start to have the
[7:25] Speaker 6: upper hand but like They were like, no.
[7:27] Speaker 8: One cares for your legacy.
[7:28] Speaker 3: Everyone doesn't stand out.
[7:29] Speaker 8: It doesn't stand out.
[7:30] Speaker 6: So it's like, and I always think like I'm from
[7:33] Speaker 6: West coast.
[7:33] Speaker 8: I go to, I'm in a West coast.
[7:34] Speaker 6: Sorority that I don't even, I wouldn't even know where
[7:37] Speaker 6: to start with letter recommendations. I wouldn't even know like
[7:41] Speaker 6: people out there. It's just a whole different like bubble
[7:44] Speaker 6: that like, you're not even really involved.
[7:46] Speaker 2: Totally. I'm intimidating.
[7:49] Speaker 3: Yeah. I've written a bunch of them. I don't really like, I, I,
[7:54] Speaker 3: I written for people. I don't even know.
[7:55] Speaker 4: So like, I don't feel like they're very, like, I
[7:59] Speaker 4: can't imagine that they are that important because you just
[8:03] Speaker 4: get anybody to write them.
[8:04] Speaker 3: I've written probably five for people I don't even know.
[8:06] Speaker 8: Right. I know.
[8:07] Speaker 5: I actually write the moms and say, can you at
[8:10] Speaker 5: least share something about them so I can write, you know,
[8:13] Speaker 5: if it's a friend of a friend or whatever, which
[8:14] Speaker 5: I'm happy to do. But I honestly think it's just
[8:18] Speaker 5: like you were saying, if they didn't have a letter
[8:20] Speaker 5: of rec, then they immediately get dropped.
[8:22] Speaker 2: I think it's just getting them in the door.
[8:25] Speaker 5: Like, you know, I don't think they, I have to
[8:28] Speaker 5: assume they have so many letters of recommendation.
[8:32] Speaker 2: To go through. I cannot imagine that they read all
[8:34] Speaker 2: of them. There's no way.
[8:37] Speaker 4: I mean, maybe if it's coming down to like the,
[8:39] Speaker 4: like the last few people that you're voting on, you
[8:42] Speaker 4: just have something to differentiate them because you just can't decide.
[8:47] Speaker 4: Maybe like a really good recommendation would, you know, sway
[8:52] Speaker 4: them in some way, but otherwise I can't imagine.
[8:54] Speaker 3: It being a big deal.
[9:10] Speaker 4: I want to know about the frat boys at Ole Miss.
[9:14] Speaker 4: And I hear that they rank the sororities. Please enlighten
[9:18] Speaker 4: me and I would have to hate them all.
[9:21] Speaker 1: One thing I will say is– I mean, this is
[9:23] Speaker 1: probably everywhere, but the ego at Ole Miss– from those
[9:30] Speaker 1: men are is insane and they're very much about their
[9:34] Speaker 1: school like we were talking to them about like just
[9:36] Speaker 1: like different things and.
[9:38] Speaker 8: They were like Ole Miss is on top like we are.
[9:40] Speaker 1: The best and we're talking about just a bunch of
[9:43] Speaker 1: different things like sports and they were like we're better
[9:45] Speaker 1: than any other sport like our stadium is.
[9:47] Speaker 3: Always packed out like we have the best school.
[9:50] Speaker 1: Spirit and we were like well what about Bama or
[9:53] Speaker 1: any other like big school and he was like no
[9:55] Speaker 1: like they don't even come close to us like We
[9:58] Speaker 1: stay on top.
[9:59] Speaker 8: And I was just like oh.
[10:01] Speaker 1: Okay but that's one thing I will definitely say was
[10:06] Speaker 1: interesting but take the rest about the sorority.
[10:09] Speaker 4: Houses tell us about how they rank the sororities That was.
[10:14] Speaker 6: So what was funny about our experience going was that
[10:18] Speaker 6: since we were out in the middle of recruitment, the
[10:21] Speaker 6: girls weren't going out because it's dry.
[10:23] Speaker 8: The whole week is dry. So it was literally just
[10:28] Speaker 8: all frat guys. We were like, where are the girls?
[10:31] Speaker 8: Are there any girls out? You would go and some
[10:33] Speaker 8: of the bars were all outside. And it would just
[10:35] Speaker 8: be tables and tables of the frat guys.
[10:38] Speaker 6: And so... I just remember being very upfront and honest
[10:43] Speaker 6: with them about what we were doing and thank God
[10:46] Speaker 6: they were so excited about it.
[10:48] Speaker 8: And when I asked them what, like, what are, like,
[10:51] Speaker 8: what are the top sororities here? Like, who are the
[10:53] Speaker 8: most like dateable women here?
[10:54] Speaker 6: Um, I got tried out Kappa and I want to
[11:00] Speaker 6: say Katie or the top ones.
[11:04] Speaker 8: And it was kind of funny.
[11:05] Speaker 6: Cause then I remember also when you go to the houses,
[11:07] Speaker 6: the row, um, that all these houses are on is
[11:10] Speaker 6: literally called sorority row.
[11:12] Speaker 8: And it literally looks like Barbie land. It, there's like
[11:14] Speaker 8: a lake and it's a little cul-de-sac and all the houses.
[11:19] Speaker 8: I mean, you could, you guys could play telephone with
[11:22] Speaker 8: a cup and a.
[11:22] Speaker 6: String with how close all these houses are to one another.
[11:25] Speaker 5: Wow.
[11:27] Speaker 6: And yeah, Yeah, I kind of just, they, when we ask, like,
[11:30] Speaker 6: what are your guys' thoughts on, like, recruitment and work
[11:33] Speaker 6: week and, like, all these things that they're doing, they're
[11:36] Speaker 6: kind of just, like, I just don't really understand the
[11:37] Speaker 6: purpose of it. I don't understand, like, why we have
[11:40] Speaker 6: to do the themes. And I don't understand why it's
[11:43] Speaker 6: all about, like, the dancing. Like, I feel like if
[11:46] Speaker 6: they actually just spent more of their time dedicated to actual, like,
[11:50] Speaker 6: prepping for recruitment, they wouldn't be complaining about.
[11:53] Speaker 8: Having these 15-hour days.
[11:54] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[11:55] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[11:56] Speaker 6: And then, sure enough, we met one guy who his
[11:59] Speaker 6: girlfriend was vice president of membership for one of the
[12:03] Speaker 6: houses there, which is basically, like, the biggest role that
[12:06] Speaker 6: you have.
[12:06] Speaker 8: For, like, Rush. That your entire job, like, when you're.
[12:09] Speaker 6: In that chapter is basically just planning Rush.
[12:12] Speaker 8: And he said that he has not seen her.
[12:14] Speaker 2: Wow.
[12:17] Speaker 8: Everything and so they are very much um but they
[12:20] Speaker 8: also were like good luck with what you guys.
[12:22] Speaker 6: Are doing good luck talking to the girls like they're
[12:24] Speaker 6: not going to tell you anything and.
[12:25] Speaker 8: We're like right like that's fine like we know.
[12:29] Speaker 4: And did you experience that did they were they really
[12:32] Speaker 4: tight-lipped didn't really give you any tea.
[12:34] Speaker 1: We didn't i mean like we said there wasn't any
[12:38] Speaker 1: girls out.
[12:39] Speaker 7: So it's not even like we got a crazy chance
[12:41] Speaker 7: to ask them.
[12:42] Speaker 1: And especially on bid day, they're so busy with running
[12:45] Speaker 1: home and meeting their bags and everything. So they, we
[12:50] Speaker 1: didn't really get a chance to talk to them specifically,
[12:52] Speaker 1: but we were able to get outside perspectives from girls.
[12:55] Speaker 1: Like we saw some girls that were like, not even from,
[12:58] Speaker 1: I don't even, I think they're out of country.
[13:02] Speaker 6: Oh yeah.
[13:03] Speaker 8: We met two girls who were not, who they're exchange students. Yeah.
[13:09] Speaker 6: They're literally from Spain or some, some out of like
[13:13] Speaker 6: country place. And I asked, I was like, were you
[13:16] Speaker 6: ever interested in doing recruitment? I mean like, hello, you're
[13:20] Speaker 6: going to SEC American kind of school. Like, I don't
[13:24] Speaker 6: know if you want that experience. And she was so
[13:26] Speaker 6: adamant of, no, I didn't even want to attempt. I
[13:29] Speaker 6: didn't want to do it. Like, here I want no
[13:32] Speaker 6: part of it it's toxic this that so that was
[13:35] Speaker 6: kind of a little bit surprising and then we had
[13:39] Speaker 6: two girls where we met their neighbors there's these two
[13:45] Speaker 6: girls we met their neighbors and apparently they dropped one
[13:49] Speaker 6: of their the one they dropped their sorority at Ole
[13:52] Speaker 6: Miss so we were trying to like.
[13:56] Speaker 8: Find them to talk to them. And the roommates were like,
[14:00] Speaker 8: you're probably not going to get a word out of
[14:01] Speaker 8: them because, and even though they dropped, they still said
[14:04] Speaker 8: that they wouldn't.
[14:04] Speaker 6: Talk about it because like the school still like come
[14:07] Speaker 6: at them and like, they'll get banned from everything.
[14:10] Speaker 8: They won't be allowed to invites. They will like lose friends.
[14:13] Speaker 8: It's like, even if you still can't talk about it.
[14:16] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[14:17] Speaker 1: It kind of gave off as they were trying to
[14:18] Speaker 1: like talk us out of it in a way. Like
[14:21] Speaker 1: we really wanted to try and reach out to them.
[14:24] Speaker 1: So we left, a note at their door, like saying,
[14:28] Speaker 1: just being honest, like who we were and.
[14:31] Speaker 7: What we were trying to ask them about. We had
[14:33] Speaker 7: no militia intentions.
[14:36] Speaker 1: Because, you know, a lot of people can just like
[14:38] Speaker 1: assume that nowadays, which is completely understandable. And we had
[14:42] Speaker 1: some of the male neighbors who were fraternities help us
[14:45] Speaker 1: write it.
[14:47] Speaker 7: And one of them was the guy, the boyfriend.
[14:50] Speaker 1: And he was like, I don't think this like we
[14:53] Speaker 1: were walking towards and he was like, I don't think
[14:54] Speaker 1: this is a smart idea. Like just saying like, I
[14:57] Speaker 1: don't think they're going to like reach out. So like,
[15:00] Speaker 1: I don't know if you really should just even do it.
[15:02] Speaker 2: But what's the harm? That's exactly what we said.
[15:05] Speaker 3: Nothing to lose.
[15:06] Speaker 8: Right. Exactly.
[15:07] Speaker 7: I was like, we have nothing to lose.
[15:08] Speaker 8: We're not from here.
[15:10] Speaker 2: Exactly.
[15:11] Speaker 5: There's no reason to not to. I would love to know.
[15:15] Speaker 5: I hear that you were actually at Alpha Chi University.
[15:20] Speaker 5: pref night and I was an alpha guy, not obviously
[15:22] Speaker 5: at Bama, but I'd love to know, is that really
[15:25] Speaker 5: the case?
[15:26] Speaker 2: And how was it? How did that happen?
[15:28] Speaker 8: Yeah. So this was really funny.
[15:31] Speaker 6: The moment we get to our hotel, I, we get
[15:34] Speaker 6: out of the Uber and I see this array of
[15:37] Speaker 6: bags and it looks like girls is rush bags.
[15:40] Speaker 8: And then I see two row guys. Do they have their,
[15:42] Speaker 8: or get what row guys, but basically like.
[15:46] Speaker 6: The rush counselors, they were sitting outside and I was
[15:49] Speaker 6: just like, wait a second, we're at a hotel right now.
[15:51] Speaker 6: And I asked her as what's, what's going on over here.
[15:54] Speaker 6: She goes, Oh, Alpha Chi Omega's house is getting redone
[15:58] Speaker 6: right now. So we've had to do all the brush
[16:00] Speaker 6: at this hotel.
[16:01] Speaker 8: And I was like, what are you talking about?
[16:05] Speaker 6: And And I couldn't even imagine because there's so many
[16:09] Speaker 6: things that go into it. I mean, like you have
[16:11] Speaker 6: to know, have to line all the girls up outside
[16:13] Speaker 6: the door.
[16:14] Speaker 8: Like you have to know where to line up to chat.
[16:16] Speaker 6: You have to be able to count how many girls
[16:18] Speaker 6: to know how many PNMs to match with active.
[16:20] Speaker 8: I was like, how are you doing this out of
[16:22] Speaker 8: hotel for starters? And we, they.
[16:25] Speaker 6: Tell us they're like, they're literally in there doing their
[16:27] Speaker 6: prep ceremony right now.
[16:29] Speaker 8: And it's pretty much displayed. So you can literally go
[16:31] Speaker 8: see if you want. And I was like, what?
[16:34] Speaker 6: Oh yeah.
[16:34] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[16:35] Speaker 6: So we go, we walk in and I don't know
[16:39] Speaker 6: if all I'm in Kappa.
[16:42] Speaker 8: So like I know my Kappa preps are very like
[16:45] Speaker 8: you wear black dresses.
[16:46] Speaker 6: It's very just like elegant and just like pretty clean,
[16:49] Speaker 6: generic kind of thing.
[16:51] Speaker 8: Theirs was like there.
[16:53] Speaker 6: They wore like the white cap sleeve long dresses with
[16:56] Speaker 6: the red flowers.
[16:58] Speaker 8: Very like elegant. I think because of the South, it
[17:02] Speaker 8: has like more of like a religious root to it too.
[17:05] Speaker 6: It almost seems like it was conservative. They had their
[17:09] Speaker 6: music playing like over a speaker. So it wasn't like
[17:12] Speaker 6: the girl singing. It was actually more of like a.
[17:15] Speaker 8: Choir audio playing.
[17:17] Speaker 5: Oh, crazy.
[17:18] Speaker 6: And then they had their house like cut out and
[17:22] Speaker 6: like a cardboard box and placed.
[17:24] Speaker 8: It in the back. And these girls would literally.
[17:27] Speaker 6: Be standing down, like standing on this like stairway and,
[17:30] Speaker 6: an active would come and grab a PNM and they'd
[17:33] Speaker 6: walk them into this little ballroom area. That was this
[17:36] Speaker 6: open space of tables.
[17:38] Speaker 8: And I was like, Oh my gosh, that is crazy.
[17:43] Speaker 8: Cause prep is also supposed to be like prep night.
[17:46] Speaker 6: It's like dark and like mysterious and like emotional and secret.
[17:51] Speaker 3: Do you feel like you were like, like a voyeur?
[17:54] Speaker 3: Like I'm watching this and I shouldn't really be here.
[17:57] Speaker 6: I was kind of just like, if, Thank God they're
[18:01] Speaker 6: doing it here because they were doing it somewhere else
[18:03] Speaker 6: where maybe sororities weren't popular.
[18:05] Speaker 8: It almost looked like a cotillion thing.
[18:07] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
[18:08] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[18:09] Speaker 3: It sounds like it with the white dresses and all that. Yeah.
[18:12] Speaker 4: Was that the most bizarre thing that you witnessed or
[18:15] Speaker 4: did you witness anything else that was just like blow
[18:18] Speaker 4: your mind?
[18:19] Speaker 6: I think that was like one of, I think that
[18:22] Speaker 6: was bizarre in the sense of you're not ever able
[18:25] Speaker 6: to see any.
[18:25] Speaker 3: You see that.
[18:26] Speaker 2: Yeah. Pref ceremonies.
[18:27] Speaker 8: I mean, like you should.
[18:28] Speaker 6: Ever be able to listen to any single sorority songs,
[18:32] Speaker 6: especially like something on pref.
[18:34] Speaker 8: That's a lot more like sacred. I think that was
[18:38] Speaker 8: really bizarre.
[18:39] Speaker 6: I think just in general though, I mean, bid day
[18:42] Speaker 6: had to have been like the most elaborate wild show
[18:47] Speaker 6: I have ever seen. I mean, it was families on
[18:52] Speaker 6: top of families. It was packed before the girls even
[18:55] Speaker 6: ran home. Just the signs, the alumni there, the house setups.
[19:01] Speaker 6: I mean, there was professional photographers going around taking pictures
[19:05] Speaker 6: of like the girls and the houses and all the
[19:07] Speaker 6: merch and like things that they would get in their
[19:09] Speaker 6: rush bags.
[19:10] Speaker 8: It was just, I was jealous. I was like, I
[19:13] Speaker 8: want to run home right now. I understand why these
[19:15] Speaker 8: girls are having a meltdown and crying. Like I want
[19:18] Speaker 8: to be a part of that. Yeah. It was, it
[19:20] Speaker 8: was really cool. It was just so like, it definitely
[19:24] Speaker 8: blew my expectations out of the water.
[19:26] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[19:26] Speaker 5: Amazing.
[19:41] Speaker 3: What was the fashion like?
[19:42] Speaker 4: It was everybody like over the top or were they,
[19:47] Speaker 4: you know, conservative.
[19:49] Speaker 8: I'd say it's a mix of both in a way.
[19:51] Speaker 1: Like when we went out at night, it's like, it's
[19:57] Speaker 1: not too crazy. We definitely tried to blend in with
[20:00] Speaker 1: the crowd, but I think you can tell that we
[20:02] Speaker 1: weren't from there for sure.
[20:05] Speaker 7: But I think... Yeah, I'd say it's very split in
[20:11] Speaker 7: my eyes, I think.
[20:13] Speaker 8: I think on bid day, it was really fun seeing
[20:16] Speaker 8: the parents.
[20:17] Speaker 6: And they would come with, like, if they were a
[20:21] Speaker 6: legacy of Kappa Delta or an alumni there, they would
[20:23] Speaker 6: come in this, like, patterned out green dress. And if
[20:26] Speaker 6: they had their kids with them, they'd put their little
[20:28] Speaker 6: daughters who were, like, three in the same matching bows
[20:31] Speaker 6: and same outfits.
[20:32] Speaker 8: And it was.
[20:33] Speaker 6: Honestly the most darn cute thing ever of, like, And, like,
[20:38] Speaker 6: try it out. Like, they're all in, like, their yellow
[20:39] Speaker 6: and blue. And it was just, like, it's really cute.
[20:43] Speaker 6: The dresses, though. It's definitely, like, you wear dresses there.
[20:46] Speaker 6: You wear dresses with color and pattern.
[20:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
[20:50] Speaker 5: There was a funny encounter with Kappa when you accidentally
[20:53] Speaker 5: matched their light blue dresses, we hear. Tell us what happened.
[20:58] Speaker 3: When we were getting ready.
[21:00] Speaker 1: Actually, when we were packing, we were talking about what
[21:02] Speaker 1: we were going to wear. And I was saying how
[21:04] Speaker 1: I was like, I think I need to fit in.
[21:06] Speaker 2: So I need to wear a dress. And I have
[21:08] Speaker 2: a light blue dress.
[21:09] Speaker 7: I was like, oh, it's perfect for Ole Miss.
[21:11] Speaker 8: And when I.
[21:13] Speaker 1: Sent a picture of what I was wearing, we had
[21:16] Speaker 1: both planned to wear a light blue dress.
[21:18] Speaker 7: So we were like, you know what? Let's just do it.
[21:20] Speaker 7: So that same.
[21:21] Speaker 1: Day, we wore our light blue dresses. And we went
[21:23] Speaker 1: to the Kappa house. And they're all taking pictures. And
[21:26] Speaker 1: they're all in their blue dresses. we blend literally right in.
[21:30] Speaker 1: Like we could have hopped in their picture of anything
[21:32] Speaker 1: and said we were a part of it.
[21:34] Speaker 6: If I had worn like this thing, cause this is
[21:36] Speaker 6: what they all had on, which is the exact thing.
[21:39] Speaker 8: I don't even think they would have known.
[21:41] Speaker 6: I probably could have said, I just transferred in and
[21:45] Speaker 6: I'm like Hapa.
[21:47] Speaker 8: And they would have been like, Oh my God, cool.
[21:49] Speaker 8: Come on in. Cause we also got there.
[21:51] Speaker 6: Super early when like, it was freshly decorated and they're
[21:54] Speaker 6: all still taking their pictures and we're kind of just
[21:56] Speaker 6: like wandering around like on their like gigantic lawns. And
[22:02] Speaker 6: they're definitely like making eyes with us of like, are
[22:05] Speaker 6: they part of us?
[22:06] Speaker 8: Do we know them?
[22:07] Speaker 3: Like, should we say hi?
[22:08] Speaker 6: These like PC classes are probably also like 200 girls.
[22:12] Speaker 8: I mean, it's unreal how large these houses are. I mean,
[22:17] Speaker 8: the house is gigantic.
[22:19] Speaker 6: I think they house about 180 girls.
[22:21] Speaker 3: How many people were they giving bids to this year?
[22:25] Speaker 8: Definitely a hundred.
[22:26] Speaker 6: Wow.
[22:27] Speaker 8: There was a lot. There was a lot. I mean,
[22:30] Speaker 8: those PC class photos were gigantic.
[22:33] Speaker 2: Gigantic. Which made them like. it took them so long.
[22:36] Speaker 1: To get it together because you have to fit so
[22:39] Speaker 1: many girls in one photo, obviously. And they have their
[22:43] Speaker 1: photographer like on a ladder, like trying to come, they
[22:46] Speaker 1: have megaphones across the street, literally, basically. And they had
[22:50] Speaker 1: a megaphone trying to communicate to everyone like, okay, girls,
[22:52] Speaker 1: like I need you to really get tighter in.
[22:54] Speaker 7: And we, when we were at the Kappa house, we
[22:57] Speaker 7: saw that one of.
[22:58] Speaker 1: The girls was on the floor, like getting fanned and
[23:00] Speaker 1: like people people were getting water like she was passing
[23:03] Speaker 1: out because it's hot because it is hot out there
[23:07] Speaker 1: and being in such a tight crowd probably doesn't help
[23:10] Speaker 1: at all.
[23:11] Speaker 4: No air oh my gosh that's scary yeah I bet
[23:16] Speaker 4: that happens.
[23:16] Speaker 8: A lot.
[23:18] Speaker 5: Oh my gosh you guys are amazing I love all
[23:21] Speaker 5: these inside stories it's so much fun.
[23:24] Speaker 4: Did you have fun was this a fun assignment to
[23:27] Speaker 4: go down there and try to blend in and get
[23:29] Speaker 4: some info.
[23:32] Speaker 1: It was yeah it definitely was we had our fun
[23:35] Speaker 1: and i've never been to mississippi in the first place
[23:38] Speaker 1: yeah oh it was just their campus like we didn't
[23:41] Speaker 1: go on their campus but just seeing their town their
[23:45] Speaker 1: um square what's is what's it called square it's yeah
[23:49] Speaker 1: it's really called the square there you go it's beautiful
[23:52] Speaker 1: it's a cute little town there's really cute shops there
[23:54] Speaker 1: and it's, I.
[23:56] Speaker 7: Can see why I can see the appeal to the school.
[23:59] Speaker 8: And it's just, it's very, it's.
[24:00] Speaker 1: Very close together, which when we drove in, cause you
[24:03] Speaker 1: have to, it's like an hour drive from the airport.
[24:06] Speaker 1: We kind of felt like we were in the middle
[24:08] Speaker 1: of nowhere. And then as soon as we get in,
[24:10] Speaker 1: it's just Ole Miss. Like it's just straight school town vibes.
[24:14] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[24:15] Speaker 3: College town.
[24:16] Speaker 2: Exactly.
[24:17] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[24:17] Speaker 7: And it's, it's great.
[24:19] Speaker 8: It was really fun. The people in the South are
[24:22] Speaker 8: also the nicest people.
[24:24] Speaker 3: So friendly.
[24:25] Speaker 6: They are the friendliest people ever. I was so nervous
[24:28] Speaker 6: about how much I would need to try.
[24:31] Speaker 8: To talk to people. If you sit down, the person.
[24:33] Speaker 6: You're sitting down next to at a restaurant, they will
[24:35] Speaker 6: immediately say hi to you.
[24:37] Speaker 2: Oh, I love that.
[24:39] Speaker 8: They're the nicest people there.
[24:41] Speaker 2: Yeah, they really are.
[24:42] Speaker 7: They're so welcoming and they're.
[24:44] Speaker 8: Just so personable.
[24:46] Speaker 7: It's like I've known this person. I'm talking to someone
[24:49] Speaker 7: and I feel like I've known them.
[24:52] Speaker 8: They're really nice.
[24:52] Speaker 5: I love it.
[24:54] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[24:54] Speaker 2: Well, thank you, ladies.
[24:55] Speaker 5: This has been so awesome. I think they need to
[24:59] Speaker 5: do more sororities and do, you know, maybe like mid semester,
[25:04] Speaker 5: you go and check in on how many girls have
[25:07] Speaker 5: left the houses and how many girls are happy and
[25:11] Speaker 5: maybe go to a party.
[25:13] Speaker 2: I don't know. So fun. I love the insights.
[25:16] Speaker 3: The inside scoop is really fun.
[25:17] Speaker 4: I love this assignment and thank you guys for being
[25:20] Speaker 4: up for it and looking the part. They couldn't send
[25:22] Speaker 4: Trista and I, but we got.
[25:23] Speaker 2: You young girls.
[25:27] Speaker 3: We could be the mothers. I could be a grandmother
[25:29] Speaker 3: at this point. I have grandkids.
[25:33] Speaker 2: So I love it.
[25:36] Speaker 8: I love it.
[25:37] Speaker 5: All right.
