[0:01] Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sororiti Life with
[0:04] Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Daisy.
[0:07] Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
[0:12] Speaker 3: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush. I'm Margo
[0:15] Speaker 3: and today is a producer hosted episode all about work week.
[0:20] Speaker 3: First off, give us the rundown. What was work week
[0:23] Speaker 3: like at your school?
[0:25] Speaker 2: Okay, work week, I personally.
[0:30] Speaker 3: Was.
[0:31] Speaker 2: I did work week for three years, so that means
[0:33] Speaker 2: I did as a senior, which at my school is
[0:34] Speaker 2: very uncommon. Usually girls would try to do it one
[0:37] Speaker 2: year and like be done because no one really wants
[0:39] Speaker 2: to be a part of it unless you're on recruitment team.
[0:43] Speaker 2: It's kind of like a thing at my school, like
[0:44] Speaker 2: girls trying to get out of it, Like they will
[0:48] Speaker 2: use every excuse in the book, and my sarty is
[0:50] Speaker 2: super strict, so they will deny so many excuses that
[0:53] Speaker 2: come in. But I did it for all three years,
[0:56] Speaker 2: and the purpose is just like obviously it's like teaching
[0:59] Speaker 2: all the logistics of bump groups and how you recruit
[1:02] Speaker 2: girls and all that. But at the end of the day,
[1:04] Speaker 2: like it's so much about just like getting to know
[1:06] Speaker 2: your PC and you're swarty. I feel like a lot
[1:09] Speaker 2: of girls after freshman year, you like live in a dorm,
[1:12] Speaker 2: and like you're kind of friends with your dorm girls,
[1:15] Speaker 2: and maybe you haven't gone as close with your own
[1:18] Speaker 2: swarty sisters just because sometimes that's how freshman year goes.
[1:20] Speaker 2: And I feel like work week really gives you a
[1:23] Speaker 2: chance to bond with everyone in your PC or the
[1:25] Speaker 2: girls below and above you because you're literally forced to
[1:30] Speaker 2: be together for ten hours a day, so you literally
[1:32] Speaker 2: have no other choice but to like get to know
[1:34] Speaker 2: each other and like enjoy it. And we'll jump into
[1:37] Speaker 2: all this in this episode, but you get placed in
[1:40] Speaker 2: certain bump groups and you get really close with the
[1:42] Speaker 2: girls in your bump group, And I don't know, so
[1:45] Speaker 2: for me, it was mostly about teaching you everything about recruitment,
[1:50] Speaker 2: but I feel like it is definitely about like getting
[1:54] Speaker 2: to know your PC and the PCs above, Like that's
[1:57] Speaker 2: a huge part of it that like I feel like
[2:00] Speaker 2: our whole sorority like really encourages.
[2:02] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll just kind of like go off of what
[2:04] Speaker 4: Shelby's already said, but I feel like our sorority was
[2:09] Speaker 4: I don't know about you selves, but like my sorority
[2:12] Speaker 4: was not as organized throughout the year and work week.
[2:17] Speaker 4: Our work week was extra long just because we like
[2:19] Speaker 4: did all of the housekeeping during that time too, Like
[2:22] Speaker 4: we were learning how to recruit, and we were like
[2:25] Speaker 4: we had this huge old house that just like it
[2:29] Speaker 4: was kind of our job to maintain or figure out
[2:32] Speaker 4: like how we were going to maintain it. So if
[2:34] Speaker 4: there were things that needed to be clean or organized,
[2:37] Speaker 4: or like all these old photos and photo albums that
[2:39] Speaker 4: we needed to do. And then like nobody knew the
[2:43] Speaker 4: song for our sorority, so like we drilled that during
[2:45] Speaker 4: work week. We made sure everyone went through like certain
[2:48] Speaker 4: trainings that we had to do, so we kind of
[2:50] Speaker 4: just jam packed all of our like sorority house keeping
[2:53] Speaker 4: into one week, especially for the older members that we knew,
[2:57] Speaker 4: like we're going to show up to certain meetings throughout
[3:02] Speaker 4: the year, like or like would get dropped if they
[3:05] Speaker 4: hadn't done certain training, so we would do that during
[3:07] Speaker 4: work week. But like it is a tightly run ship.
[3:11] Speaker 4: I feel like work week like no hours go wasted.
[3:15] Speaker 4: You are really working every day for ten hours making
[3:18] Speaker 4: sure the house is in tip top shape for recruitment,
[3:22] Speaker 4: but also like to last the year because you don't
[3:24] Speaker 4: know if we're ever going to get hands on this
[3:26] Speaker 4: stuff later on. You're practicing for recruitment, practicing with other houses,
[3:32] Speaker 4: You're getting the.
[3:33] Speaker 2: Flowers ready, the signage.
[3:35] Speaker 4: It's all hands on deck, and it's kind of wild
[3:39] Speaker 4: how much can come together in just one week. And
[3:43] Speaker 4: I agree with you Shelves that it's a time when
[3:45] Speaker 4: you get really close with like some of the older girls.
[3:48] Speaker 4: If you're underclassmen or an upperclassman, like you might not
[3:51] Speaker 4: really want to be there at the beginning of the week,
[3:53] Speaker 4: but all of your friends and sororities are doing the
[3:56] Speaker 4: same thing, and like the guys in the frats are
[3:58] Speaker 4: also doing the same thing at the same time. It's
[4:00] Speaker 4: kind of like there's no better place or anywhere else,
[4:03] Speaker 4: like you would be unless you had you were working
[4:05] Speaker 4: or had an internship. But you do get really close
[4:09] Speaker 4: with everyone in the house at that time, and it's
[4:11] Speaker 4: it's like ends up being like some of my favorite
[4:13] Speaker 4: memories that I had and like are the reason why
[4:15] Speaker 4: I'm close with some of the upperclassmen.
[4:18] Speaker 5: I think my situation definitely some similarities, but I think
[4:21] Speaker 5: my situation was a little bit different because I joined
[4:23] Speaker 5: my sorority as a junior. I didn't obviously have any
[4:27] Speaker 5: other experience with work week, so I actually did do
[4:30] Speaker 5: it my senior year, even though it wasn't as common
[4:32] Speaker 5: for seniors to do it. I kind of felt like
[4:34] Speaker 5: it was an experience I wanted to have if I
[4:36] Speaker 5: was going to go through all the effort and time
[4:38] Speaker 5: to join Authrority, I wanted to like have the really
[4:40] Speaker 5: full experience. But I can say like as a senior,
[4:45] Speaker 5: it is definitely a thing that people really try to
[4:47] Speaker 5: get out of it. It was definitely unique that I
[4:50] Speaker 5: did it as a senior, and I was particularly really
[4:54] Speaker 5: close with a lot of the sophomore so I was
[4:56] Speaker 5: able to get a lot out of it and had
[4:57] Speaker 5: a really great time with them, and it was an
[4:59] Speaker 5: incredible bond experience. But I think I was one of
[5:02] Speaker 5: like three seniors that showed up to anything, and in
[5:05] Speaker 5: a weird way, I think, not like an advantage, but
[5:08] Speaker 5: I think that there was definitely an element of closeness
[5:10] Speaker 5: I felt to my sorority that some of the other
[5:13] Speaker 5: seniors sort of like kind of fell out of because
[5:16] Speaker 5: I made the effort to show up and connect with
[5:18] Speaker 5: a lot of the younger the younger girls and the underclassman,
[5:21] Speaker 5: so I think there's definitely a lot of benefits to going.
[5:23] Speaker 5: But I can't speak for the other girls who were
[5:25] Speaker 5: in it for four years. I can tell that there
[5:27] Speaker 5: was probably a lot of burnout, but having it be
[5:29] Speaker 5: like a very new and exciting thing made me want
[5:31] Speaker 5: to do it.
[5:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, I was.
[5:32] Speaker 1: Also I've only done work Week once because I joined
[5:35] Speaker 1: my sorority late as well. And I think it's just
[5:39] Speaker 1: like one of those things it's just so unbelievably necessary
[5:43] Speaker 1: to do, just because there is just so much that
[5:45] Speaker 1: goes into it, and like I couldn't imagine not doing
[5:49] Speaker 1: work Week but then doing Rush and like expecting to
[5:51] Speaker 1: know the things that we do. There's just so many
[5:53] Speaker 1: small logistics and rules that like kind of go into it,
[5:57] Speaker 1: knowing how to like properly go through fruitment that are
[6:00] Speaker 1: just huge. And it's like all the way from learning
[6:03] Speaker 1: your songs and learning your chants and learning like how
[6:05] Speaker 1: to like all make that come together with one hundred
[6:08] Speaker 1: and fifty two hundred girls like all trying to learn
[6:11] Speaker 1: these things together as well as like your bump groups
[6:14] Speaker 1: you're timing learning like yeah, kind of those logistics, But
[6:19] Speaker 1: it's definitely something that's like super super cercial and like
[6:21] Speaker 1: you get super close with the girls in your bump
[6:22] Speaker 1: group as well, so that's also a really nice thing.
[6:25] Speaker 2: I totally agree. Yeah, it's like such a fun process,
[6:29] Speaker 2: but also like kind of just a lot going on
[6:32] Speaker 2: at the same time, and like I feel like I
[6:35] Speaker 2: also was thinking about this when you guys are talking
[6:37] Speaker 2: about I feel like every year there's so much drama
[6:39] Speaker 2: that happens too. Like you're like coming back from summer
[6:42] Speaker 2: and like some people were like trying to see their
[6:45] Speaker 2: like situationships for the first time, and there was like
[6:47] Speaker 2: girls crying in the soarty house, and like you're also
[6:50] Speaker 2: then being trapped downstairs for eight hours and girls are
[6:53] Speaker 2: like it was just like sometimes like the most going
[6:56] Speaker 2: on and you had like nowhere to go, Like there
[6:58] Speaker 2: was no escape. You could barely even like go to
[7:00] Speaker 2: a workout class because it's just so many hours during
[7:02] Speaker 2: the day and I feel like everyone's like the emotions
[7:07] Speaker 2: get really high at the end.
[7:09] Speaker 4: My first work week was pretty unique in the fact
[7:11] Speaker 4: of like and we've talked about it on here before,
[7:14] Speaker 4: but I think the school that I went to, UCLA
[7:17] Speaker 4: and then University of Washington are like the only other
[7:19] Speaker 4: schools that do this, but we did like a summer
[7:22] Speaker 4: after freshman year, like a summer camp situation where we
[7:25] Speaker 4: lived in the fraternities for like six weeks. And we
[7:28] Speaker 4: had gone from like a bunch of different sorority girls,
[7:31] Speaker 4: like girls from different sororities were living in a.
[7:34] Speaker 2: Frat house for six weeks.
[7:35] Speaker 4: We got so close, and then it was like, Okay,
[7:38] Speaker 4: everyone go move into your separate sorority houses. You have
[7:41] Speaker 4: like a day to move out of the frat into
[7:43] Speaker 4: your sorority house and start work week. And I don't know, Shelby,
[7:47] Speaker 4: you can speak on it too, but like I feel
[7:50] Speaker 4: like work week and recruitment just creates so much competition
[7:55] Speaker 4: between houses and it like brings out the worst in
[8:00] Speaker 4: each other when you're especially like between each houses, like
[8:03] Speaker 4: you're kind of like gossiping about them. And we were
[8:05] Speaker 4: like we had just gone from getting so close with
[8:08] Speaker 4: girls and other sororities too. Now everyone's gossiping about each
[8:12] Speaker 4: other and what they're doing during work week. And this
[8:15] Speaker 4: was like right at the prime of the TikTok dance era,
[8:20] Speaker 4: and it was like who could go viral one day
[8:22] Speaker 4: or the next over their TikTok dances? And we were
[8:25] Speaker 4: like they were like tokic everyone's dances and it was
[8:28] Speaker 4: just like, now, looking back on it, it's so funny.
[8:31] Speaker 4: But in the time, you're like really competing for the
[8:34] Speaker 4: best girls and trying to like get your house ready
[8:37] Speaker 4: in a week to get the best girls in your sororities,
[8:39] Speaker 4: and it really breaths like some cattiness that was not fun.
[8:44] Speaker 2: I'm so catty and yik yak. At my school would
[8:47] Speaker 2: literally go quol cazzy, I know crazy. It was horrible,
[8:51] Speaker 2: and like the things people were saying about each other.
[8:53] Speaker 2: It was like yeah, and now like we're like postgrad,
[8:56] Speaker 2: we can be like it was literally never that deep,
[8:59] Speaker 2: but in the moment, it feels so like it feels
[9:01] Speaker 2: like life's gonna be over if you don't get this
[9:03] Speaker 2: one P and M. And it's like it's they're gonna
[9:05] Speaker 2: be okay and you're gonna be okay. But like it's
[9:08] Speaker 2: just so intense and like I agree with you as
[9:10] Speaker 2: in the sense of like why are we like shitting
[9:13] Speaker 2: on other people's dances, and like it's just so catty
[9:16] Speaker 2: and mean and it was like so unnecessary. But in
[9:18] Speaker 2: the moment, I remember we had these videos that would
[9:20] Speaker 2: come out they were like Round one videos. I don't
[9:22] Speaker 2: know if your guys to school did this, but like
[9:24] Speaker 2: we didn't have run round one in person. It was
[9:26] Speaker 2: like videos and like it was always like who had
[9:29] Speaker 2: the best Round one video? That was like so important.
[9:32] Speaker 4: I also feel like my sorority we compared to like
[9:36] Speaker 4: other storties that are I hate using this word, but
[9:39] Speaker 4: like tear, we didn't work as hard or.
[9:42] Speaker 2: Just kind of like.
[9:45] Speaker 4: I don't know, just we like didn't have the best
[9:47] Speaker 4: video edit or like some of our stuff was kind
[9:50] Speaker 4: of cheesy and are like and just outdated because like
[9:53] Speaker 4: we had just done with like the year before I
[9:55] Speaker 4: had done versus like other sorties were always innovating and
[9:58] Speaker 4: like getting the best of the best, and then it
[10:01] Speaker 4: became a thing when I, yeah, I guess started when
[10:04] Speaker 4: I was a sophomore, where until you tell me this
[10:07] Speaker 4: was a thing for you, But like sororities were getting
[10:11] Speaker 4: sponsorships for each day of work week, so it'd be
[10:14] Speaker 4: like Ala would come in and teach a yoga class
[10:17] Speaker 4: and everyone would like an exec would all be in
[10:19] Speaker 4: like new Alo sets or like the next day it
[10:21] Speaker 4: would be like Layla's Bagels sponsored it and they got
[10:25] Speaker 4: like Lala's for their work week breakfast, and we were
[10:29] Speaker 4: like guys who was on marketing and nobody like got
[10:33] Speaker 4: our day sponsored we were, and we were like all
[10:36] Speaker 4: the p and m's are.
[10:36] Speaker 2: Gonna see that, like we don't get any sponsorships, and
[10:39] Speaker 2: it was insane, Like.
[10:42] Speaker 4: It just I think social media really brings a different
[10:45] Speaker 4: element of competition into it that like was not a
[10:49] Speaker 4: thing five years ago.
[10:51] Speaker 2: Totally like some of our younger producers on this podcast
[10:54] Speaker 2: and talk about that even more because it's so growing,
[10:57] Speaker 2: the whole sponsorship thing.
[10:59] Speaker 1: Crazy, Yeah, I feel the funny thing is is like
[11:03] Speaker 1: Sabine and I went to the same school, so there
[11:05] Speaker 1: was like definitely always like her sorority, my sorority, and
[11:08] Speaker 1: like two others that like everyone kind of would compare,
[11:11] Speaker 1: Like I know DG does a really good pref, but
[11:14] Speaker 1: I know Kapa has a really good Felo day, and
[11:16] Speaker 1: I know that a Fee does a really good job
[11:19] Speaker 1: at like pairing girls up on like the first day
[11:22] Speaker 1: like so that like they can kind of get Like
[11:23] Speaker 1: it was like Pifi always had like really good songs
[11:26] Speaker 1: and it's like everyone like in my house talked a
[11:29] Speaker 1: lot about like we know that these houses have really
[11:32] Speaker 1: good days, so like we need to amplify it up.
[11:35] Speaker 1: And like there was a lot of stuff with yik
[11:38] Speaker 1: yak this year with us of like kind of saying
[11:41] Speaker 1: like capitains seem like they cared or like they didn't
[11:45] Speaker 1: even seem like they wanted to have us there, like
[11:47] Speaker 1: their energy is so low, and like that was just
[11:49] Speaker 1: so like frustrating for like us and like our recruiting
[11:54] Speaker 1: shairs and like people who like had taught us all
[11:56] Speaker 1: these things like going into work week two of like
[12:00] Speaker 1: and it's just like I don't know, it's a mixture
[12:01] Speaker 1: of like girls obviously being upset if like things they
[12:06] Speaker 1: didn't feel like things went right their way, and then
[12:08] Speaker 1: same way with us of like if we feel like
[12:10] Speaker 1: we had a really good person and like they didn't
[12:13] Speaker 1: want to come back or like it just like it
[12:15] Speaker 1: gets mixed in translation a lot. I feel like with
[12:17] Speaker 1: social media of not really knowing like who liked who,
[12:22] Speaker 1: who wanted war kind of thing, and like that was
[12:24] Speaker 1: always like a really hard thing and like honestly like
[12:27] Speaker 1: we just like try to stay away from it as
[12:28] Speaker 1: much as possible because just not going to get like
[12:30] Speaker 1: roped up into that. But then also with like the
[12:33] Speaker 1: TikTok challenges and like seeing like the work week themes
[12:38] Speaker 1: and like what they did. It was just like exhausting
[12:41] Speaker 1: every day. I remember like going into work week, we
[12:43] Speaker 1: like had it all planned out and then we like
[12:45] Speaker 1: started changing things like literally in the middle of the
[12:47] Speaker 1: week of like themes and like kind of things just
[12:50] Speaker 1: like keep like up to date and yeah, like the
[12:52] Speaker 1: whole like going viral doing all these crazy dances. It's
[12:55] Speaker 1: like getting all the girls who are on your dance
[12:58] Speaker 1: team and your sorority to like perform for like hours
[13:02] Speaker 1: in the courtyard so that we can get like views
[13:04] Speaker 1: and promotions and get like little sponsorship things. Was just
[13:07] Speaker 1: like add such another layer to pressure of when we're
[13:10] Speaker 1: just like genuinely just trying to like learn like these
[13:12] Speaker 1: two minute door chants and everything else. So it does
[13:15] Speaker 1: get It does get crazy with the social media part
[13:17] Speaker 1: for sure.
[13:18] Speaker 3: Going off of what Honestascias said, how important are the
[13:21] Speaker 3: themes of work week? What would you guys say?
[13:23] Speaker 5: I feel like in my experience in the one year
[13:26] Speaker 5: that I did it, the importance of it is that,
[13:28] Speaker 5: like you have an element that's unique. I think they
[13:31] Speaker 5: want to see houses that stand out and have something
[13:34] Speaker 5: that the other houses don't have. And I know this
[13:36] Speaker 5: past year there was definitely situations where our day one
[13:40] Speaker 5: work week theme was another house is like day three,
[13:42] Speaker 5: and then it became a competition of oh, but who
[13:44] Speaker 5: did it better, and so that a level of comparison
[13:47] Speaker 5: also became kind of crazy because both houses would do
[13:50] Speaker 5: it really great in their own way, but then the
[13:52] Speaker 5: p and MS would kind of like look, and I
[13:54] Speaker 5: don't think the p and MS cared as much as
[13:56] Speaker 5: we thought they did. Like when I was going through recruitment,
[13:59] Speaker 5: I didn't get work week, like I didn't like follow
[14:02] Speaker 5: the house's instagrams during that, so I didn't have any
[14:05] Speaker 5: sort of like care in the world about what houses
[14:07] Speaker 5: were better. I really only cared about like the week
[14:09] Speaker 5: of recruitment. But it definitely, like kind of what we've
[14:12] Speaker 5: been saying, it breeds like some weird level of like
[14:15] Speaker 5: hattiness and competitiveness and like what houses do it best?
[14:18] Speaker 5: And I think there was like specifically, I think there
[14:21] Speaker 5: was an instance where like my house had like a
[14:23] Speaker 5: spy day one of the first days, and then another
[14:27] Speaker 5: like one of our quote unquote competitor houses like the
[14:30] Speaker 5: exact same thing, but like did it objectively like way
[14:32] Speaker 5: cooler than we did. And so then it just like
[14:35] Speaker 5: it like really doesn't matter, but it feels like it does.
[14:38] Speaker 5: So I feel like the more important thing about themes
[14:40] Speaker 5: is just like being unique and having something that stands
[14:42] Speaker 5: out specifically that's important to your house. So having a theme,
[14:46] Speaker 5: having themes that match like the personalities of the girls
[14:48] Speaker 5: in the house and like the energy you're trying to
[14:50] Speaker 5: create and the image that you want to create and
[14:53] Speaker 5: not something that you've just like seen trending on Pinterest
[14:55] Speaker 5: or like on TikTok or Instagram.
[14:57] Speaker 2: I think what you said about the like if you
[14:59] Speaker 2: have the same the theme, like that was like the
[15:02] Speaker 2: end of the world. Like with my house, like I
[15:05] Speaker 2: think we had the same We figured out that we
[15:07] Speaker 2: had the same theme like going into the week, like
[15:10] Speaker 2: right before the week started, and it was like chaos,
[15:13] Speaker 2: like how are we going to be better than them?
[15:14] Speaker 2: Like and it's kind of like does it really matter?
[15:17] Speaker 2: But it does. It matters so much that if you
[15:21] Speaker 2: have the same theme, we have to do it so
[15:22] Speaker 2: much better than them. But like, yeah, it's just crazy.
[15:25] Speaker 2: You have to be able to really think of creative
[15:28] Speaker 2: themes that no one else will have because having the
[15:30] Speaker 2: same theme is that bad. I'm curious when you guys
[15:33] Speaker 2: were going through work week, were you like really dressing
[15:36] Speaker 2: to the theme or was it like too bey and
[15:39] Speaker 2: weird to like actually get into the theme slash, were
[15:42] Speaker 2: you trying to be cutesy or are you trying to
[15:44] Speaker 2: be like the one in the animal like blow up outfit?
[15:46] Speaker 2: Like were you how are you doing your work week outfits?
[15:50] Speaker 1: I think the only one for us that was crazy
[15:52] Speaker 1: was like we got to do the whole like Kapa
[15:54] Speaker 1: blue out thing that was like our like most like
[15:58] Speaker 1: unreal like hainous looking one. But then other than that,
[16:01] Speaker 1: it was kind of like somewhere a little bit hard
[16:03] Speaker 1: to like have more fun with. We did Coachella, We
[16:07] Speaker 1: did Y two K like that one had some fun ones.
[16:10] Speaker 1: We did Love Island, and like some people either dressed
[16:13] Speaker 1: up in like the pajamas that they wear and just
[16:15] Speaker 1: like a mic and those like the lazy ones versus
[16:17] Speaker 1: like if some girls like wearing like full bikini kind
[16:21] Speaker 1: of thing. But like another thing for us was like
[16:23] Speaker 1: when we were filming social like tiktoks outside and like
[16:27] Speaker 1: families would be walking by or like there would be
[16:30] Speaker 1: like we had like scavenger hunt people who like their
[16:33] Speaker 1: job was like to come take a photo with us,
[16:34] Speaker 1: like while we were doing these like social videos, and
[16:36] Speaker 1: it was just like what on earth is going on?
[16:38] Speaker 1: And then like you look outside too, and it's like
[16:41] Speaker 1: Pi Fi's right and right in front of us and
[16:43] Speaker 1: they're doing like the same like crazy thing as well.
[16:45] Speaker 2: So like it kind of depends.
[16:47] Speaker 1: We didn't have that many like super fun ones, but
[16:49] Speaker 1: the Kappa Blueout one is always like the most insane
[16:52] Speaker 1: like across like all sororities.
[17:08] Speaker 3: Okay, what does a normal work weekday in the life
[17:11] Speaker 3: look like if you're a chapter remember, and what does
[17:14] Speaker 3: it look like if you're a president or recruitment chair.
[17:16] Speaker 2: Well, good thing, we have a president on this podcast
[17:20] Speaker 2: who can share hers. Because I was not either, but
[17:23] Speaker 2: I was on recruitment team.
[17:25] Speaker 4: I just feel like you cannot schedule a single thing
[17:29] Speaker 4: during recruitment or work week, like you're you're not only
[17:34] Speaker 4: in charge of getting everything ready for yourself, but also
[17:37] Speaker 4: for the entire chapter, and like you are there like
[17:40] Speaker 4: uphold the morale of the chapter and support everyone else
[17:44] Speaker 4: on the recruitment team. So I mean, if you're president,
[17:48] Speaker 4: you are up at probably six am. Getting ready for
[17:54] Speaker 4: work week. It's going to start at eight am, and
[17:57] Speaker 4: you're there going over the schedule for the day and
[18:01] Speaker 4: working across all groups, making sure all of the kinks
[18:05] Speaker 4: with the bump groups are worked out, making sure that
[18:08] Speaker 4: you're researching like all the girls that are coming through recruitment,
[18:13] Speaker 4: making sure you have like everything from the songs memorized
[18:17] Speaker 4: to your speech is memorized. There's like like you know
[18:21] Speaker 4: exactly what where you're going to be and when.
[18:24] Speaker 2: Hevy, did you ever like float? Like that was the
[18:27] Speaker 2: thing in my chapter, Like the president would float and
[18:30] Speaker 2: that was like if you were a P and M
[18:32] Speaker 2: and like the President of Recruitment chair tapped on you,
[18:34] Speaker 2: like you were like getting a bit from that sorty.
[18:38] Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like that's that was like the biggest
[18:41] Speaker 4: thing that you do if your recruitment chair president is
[18:44] Speaker 4: you are like floating throughout like during but that's during
[18:48] Speaker 4: like yeah, actual recruitment. So you're and I guess you're
[18:52] Speaker 4: ever a P and M who the President of Recruitment
[18:55] Speaker 4: chair floated on you? Like I feel like even then,
[18:58] Speaker 4: like even when you're going through recruitment, you knew how
[19:00] Speaker 4: special that was just because like even like I don't
[19:04] Speaker 4: know when you're young and like you're you've just finished
[19:07] Speaker 4: like your senior year in high school or however old
[19:09] Speaker 4: you are, Like you see the president who's like standing
[19:11] Speaker 4: at the top of the staircase, and to be able
[19:15] Speaker 4: to like remember how that felt and then like be
[19:18] Speaker 4: the person doing that was pretty funny.
[19:20] Speaker 2: Did you have to like practice it at all during
[19:22] Speaker 2: work week? Like like how did you know who you were?
[19:24] Speaker 2: You just told by their backstage or whatever you guys
[19:27] Speaker 2: call it. I feel like you're told.
[19:30] Speaker 4: You're told through like the re croubn chairs, like locked
[19:32] Speaker 4: into what everyone else is.
[19:33] Speaker 2: Saying, or like your friends.
[19:36] Speaker 4: Or like are the girls who are recruiting are like
[19:38] Speaker 4: oh my gosh, you need to come in and float
[19:40] Speaker 4: on this girl, or you need to talk to this
[19:42] Speaker 4: girl like they I really like her, I really wonder
[19:44] Speaker 4: and you kind of like you take everyone's word for it. Yeah,
[19:48] Speaker 4: Or it was the girls who you was who were
[19:50] Speaker 4: getting like the top score that you could get.
[19:53] Speaker 5: Yeah, we had a similar situation in our sorority, but
[19:56] Speaker 5: it was that and I think Kappa might have done
[19:57] Speaker 5: the same thing. But it was where the president sat
[19:59] Speaker 5: in her room and it was the responsibility of the
[20:02] Speaker 5: girl taking her through the house for the house tour
[20:05] Speaker 5: day to take her to the President's room if she
[20:07] Speaker 5: thought she was like good enough to meet the president.
[20:10] Speaker 2: Wait, that's crazy that happened to me.
[20:13] Speaker 5: And I remember in the moment knowing like, oh my god,
[20:15] Speaker 5: like I've mind you the president is my age because
[20:18] Speaker 5: I'm a junior rushing and the president is a junior.
[20:21] Speaker 5: And I still was like, oh my god, I'm meeting
[20:23] Speaker 5: the president. Like I remember being like so excited about it,
[20:27] Speaker 5: and like we're literally like she's not one of my
[20:28] Speaker 5: really good friends and we're literally just like both we
[20:31] Speaker 5: were the same age at the time. But it's just
[20:33] Speaker 5: funny because it was kind of like it was definitely
[20:36] Speaker 5: something we practiced during work week. I remember like the
[20:39] Speaker 5: whole house tour day was like a really big part
[20:41] Speaker 5: of work week practice and like knowing which time to
[20:44] Speaker 5: switch on to what floor and like what rooms to
[20:47] Speaker 5: take your girls too, Like it was a huge coordinated
[20:49] Speaker 5: like mission. And I remember like the whole the way
[20:52] Speaker 5: the president fit into that was just making sure like
[20:55] Speaker 5: she kind of just was able to like sit in
[20:56] Speaker 5: her room and hang out, and then everyone else had
[20:58] Speaker 5: to like make sure they knew like Okay, if you
[20:59] Speaker 5: like this skilled, take her through. But it was definitely
[21:01] Speaker 5: something that like everyone practiced, like nothing was not practice
[21:05] Speaker 5: during recruitment, and that was like the crazy or during
[21:07] Speaker 5: work week. And I think that was the craziest thing
[21:09] Speaker 5: I realized, going from being recruited to recruiting, how calculated
[21:13] Speaker 5: and orchestrated everything is. Like nothing was just like like random,
[21:18] Speaker 5: like every like the everybody you talked to, every room
[21:21] Speaker 5: you went into, every conversation you had like there was
[21:23] Speaker 5: some level of like orchestration behind it, which is insane.
[21:27] Speaker 1: That's crazy, Yeah, Capita, the same thing for like our
[21:30] Speaker 1: house tours. But so this year we got we apparently
[21:35] Speaker 1: the year prior to when like the year I was rushing,
[21:38] Speaker 1: compared to the year that I was doing work week,
[21:40] Speaker 1: we had gotten in trouble, I guess for a lot
[21:43] Speaker 1: of things. So they placed like a lot of like
[21:45] Speaker 1: really random rules onto us of like instead now it
[21:49] Speaker 1: was this year was everyone had to meet the president.
[21:51] Speaker 1: And I remember on Sisterhood Day when you do the
[21:54] Speaker 1: house tours, it was so calculated to where like they
[21:58] Speaker 1: had us.
[21:58] Speaker 5: All like by like watch to have on our.
[22:01] Speaker 1: Wrists so because it would like start having a line
[22:03] Speaker 1: backed out like to the President's suite for every girl
[22:07] Speaker 1: to like go introduce them to the president. Still make
[22:10] Speaker 1: it back to your bump group in time. Like another
[22:13] Speaker 1: like mix up was like sometimes when like you're in
[22:16] Speaker 1: like the rush of it and you're trying to remember
[22:17] Speaker 1: like these girls' names and still asking, like you end
[22:19] Speaker 1: up getting to the President's suite and you're like, oh
[22:22] Speaker 1: my god, what's her name? Oh my god, what's her name?
[22:23] Speaker 1: And you're like trying to remember and you don't want
[22:25] Speaker 1: to like look at their like name tag. So we
[22:27] Speaker 1: would have to do this thing where like you would
[22:29] Speaker 1: put your hand like on your shoulder and someone would
[22:32] Speaker 1: put their hand on top of yours, and that would
[22:33] Speaker 1: be like our cue to be like I don't remember
[22:35] Speaker 1: this girl's name and I have to introduce her to
[22:37] Speaker 1: the president right now, so I need help, And then
[22:40] Speaker 1: the president would know to be like Hi, I'm Kate,
[22:42] Speaker 1: what's your name or like whatever her name is kind
[22:45] Speaker 1: of thing. So that was that was a mess to
[22:48] Speaker 1: where like before it'd be like, oh, if like you
[22:50] Speaker 1: talked to the president about this like P and M
[22:52] Speaker 1: that you really want introduce to her for us now
[22:54] Speaker 1: it's everyone has to meet her because it just got
[22:58] Speaker 1: so circulated around of like freshman like even like to
[23:01] Speaker 1: the point of like making up rumors of like I
[23:04] Speaker 1: heard that like kap It does this, and I heard
[23:06] Speaker 1: that Aphi does that, and like if that, if that
[23:08] Speaker 1: happens to you, then like that's a guaranteed bit or whatever.
[23:11] Speaker 1: And it's like, oh my god, we can't have like
[23:13] Speaker 1: those kinds of speculations going around, like it needs to
[23:16] Speaker 1: be fair. So then that kind of was like a
[23:18] Speaker 1: big no going into the recruitment, like especially for us
[23:22] Speaker 1: next year as well.
[23:24] Speaker 2: Totally. And I think what you guys brought up about
[23:25] Speaker 2: the house tour is really interesting. Like my s already
[23:29] Speaker 2: did that at my school, but that was like we
[23:31] Speaker 2: thought we were the only ones. Like Margo, I know
[23:33] Speaker 2: you weren't a part of work week, but was there
[23:35] Speaker 2: anything like that at your school, like any sort of
[23:37] Speaker 2: like house tours when you were going through recruitment or No.
[23:41] Speaker 3: There was actually on like the first days, we got
[23:44] Speaker 3: to tour all of the houses before like you decided
[23:47] Speaker 3: and like got dropped from any of them. So that
[23:49] Speaker 3: was kind of cool. But our houses were honestly like
[23:52] Speaker 3: really really small and like always the bigger ones we
[23:55] Speaker 3: were like, oh my gosh, they're so cool and like
[23:57] Speaker 3: for us, like Ako had like one of the best
[23:59] Speaker 3: houses and then Afi had like kind of a good house,
[24:02] Speaker 3: not really which is mine, but it was always so
[24:05] Speaker 3: cool to see because I feel like, if not, you
[24:06] Speaker 3: would never really go in them ever after like recruitment
[24:09] Speaker 3: and like once you're in your storty unless like you
[24:11] Speaker 3: were friends with them moving on. This is kind of interesting,
[24:29] Speaker 3: interesting question that I have for you guys. What happens
[24:31] Speaker 3: if you drink or going go out during work week.
[24:34] Speaker 1: I don't know if this is different for us, but
[24:37] Speaker 1: for us, work week isn't dry. It's recruitment week that's dry.
[24:43] Speaker 1: So it's kind of more so like get the fun
[24:46] Speaker 1: out of your system during work week, and then recruitment
[24:50] Speaker 1: is like if you get caught going out during recruitment,
[24:53] Speaker 1: like your house gets fined, like I don't even know,
[24:56] Speaker 1: you don't even want to, like know the kind of
[24:57] Speaker 1: punishment that you'll face. But for us it was it
[25:00] Speaker 1: was like, okay, recruitments so long and brutal, like go
[25:04] Speaker 1: out now, so that you better not be going out.
[25:06] Speaker 1: I mean, work week is not get it out now
[25:09] Speaker 1: before going into recruitment.
[25:12] Speaker 5: Everyone was hungover every single day of Yeah, that's crazy to.
[25:16] Speaker 2: Me because like no one drank a leg at my school.
[25:20] Speaker 5: But also the thing was you can't really you can't
[25:22] Speaker 5: drink it. Technically you can't drink in the house, and
[25:24] Speaker 5: so all the girls that are living in the house
[25:26] Speaker 5: during work week, like you wouldn't necessarily like be drinking
[25:30] Speaker 5: at the end of the day like in the house.
[25:31] Speaker 5: I feel like for me, it was more like the
[25:33] Speaker 5: juniors and seniors that maybe lived like out of the
[25:36] Speaker 5: house or like speaking from experience as a senior, like
[25:39] Speaker 5: I would go to the house for work week, but
[25:41] Speaker 5: then go back to my like actual senior house and
[25:43] Speaker 5: then I would like hang out with my friends and
[25:45] Speaker 5: then be hungover the next day like it. But there
[25:47] Speaker 5: wasn't actually like drinking or partying within the story house.
[25:49] Speaker 5: It was more like if people went out and like
[25:51] Speaker 5: hung out with their friends outside of it.
[25:52] Speaker 2: Definitely like out my house for sure, but even us
[25:55] Speaker 2: like ours was dry. I definitely remember the rules being
[25:58] Speaker 2: way more intense for recruitment, like your house could be
[26:01] Speaker 2: like done, so if you drink during recruitment, I feel
[26:02] Speaker 2: like work week it was just a rule, but like whatever, anyway,
[26:07] Speaker 2: people girls would like like snap photos of girls out
[26:10] Speaker 2: at the bar, like even during work week, like and
[26:13] Speaker 2: try to get their whole house off, Like if you
[26:15] Speaker 2: wanted to drink, it was like inside your house as
[26:17] Speaker 2: a junior or senior, Like you guys were saying and
[26:19] Speaker 2: you weren't telling a soul, like you could not be
[26:22] Speaker 2: out and about even like a restaurant, Like people would
[26:24] Speaker 2: literally try to get you in trouble for drinking, Like
[26:26] Speaker 2: it was that intense. So our work week was definitely dry,
[26:30] Speaker 2: And to be honest, that's impressive that you guys were
[26:32] Speaker 2: even able to go out and drink after work week
[26:34] Speaker 2: because I was so exhausted every day after ten hours
[26:38] Speaker 2: of talking and singing and clapping that like I was
[26:40] Speaker 2: hitting the pillow and waking up at seven am to
[26:43] Speaker 2: get ready the next day. So honestly, I'm super impressed
[26:46] Speaker 2: that you guys were able to go out every day
[26:47] Speaker 2: of work week and that you were hungover. That's crazy.
[26:51] Speaker 1: An owning that I remember is for some reason, every
[26:55] Speaker 1: year for us, the first football game is always during
[27:00] Speaker 1: the first like week of recruitment, which is always just
[27:04] Speaker 1: such a pain. So like it's kind of like a
[27:06] Speaker 1: known thing that like just the first football game is
[27:08] Speaker 1: super lame because no one's out because none of like
[27:10] Speaker 1: Greek life gets to go out and like drink and
[27:13] Speaker 1: do anything. And being an athlete, like I would have
[27:17] Speaker 1: all my like teammates going out and like I'd be like, yeah, yeah, no,
[27:20] Speaker 1: I can't. Sorry, Like recruitment it's dry, and they would
[27:23] Speaker 1: just have like no idea like why, and like they
[27:26] Speaker 1: just thought it was the stupidest thing ever. But yeah,
[27:27] Speaker 1: for us, it was always recruitment was the very first
[27:29] Speaker 1: football game. And then also that's like led the freshmen
[27:33] Speaker 1: who were gonna be rushing being like super scared of
[27:35] Speaker 1: going out as well and like getting caught at anything
[27:38] Speaker 1: and whatever. And it was always just it's been like
[27:40] Speaker 1: a mess every year with that. It's always a big conflict.
[27:43] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's crazy.
[27:44] Speaker 3: See.
[27:44] Speaker 2: I think it also with you guys going to school
[27:46] Speaker 2: in California and we going to school in the South,
[27:48] Speaker 2: and our schools having the difference of like my work
[27:51] Speaker 2: week in recruitment, we're done in two weeks, and I
[27:53] Speaker 2: know that's different for you guys. So I feel like
[27:55] Speaker 2: that's a big player where like I feel like they
[27:57] Speaker 2: can't make everyone like not go drink at football games
[28:00] Speaker 2: and everything for like months like other schools, but like
[28:02] Speaker 2: ours was like the two weeks before school started, so
[28:05] Speaker 2: like they could put as many rules in place as
[28:07] Speaker 2: they wanted to.
[28:09] Speaker 3: What advice do you have for girls about to go
[28:11] Speaker 3: through their first work week?
[28:13] Speaker 2: Like guess just like don't be scared.
[28:15] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[28:15] Speaker 5: I feel like there's this huge conversation about how nerve
[28:18] Speaker 5: wracking recruitment is and like going through it as a
[28:22] Speaker 5: P and M. And I feel like on the reverse
[28:23] Speaker 5: and once you're in the storty and you feel like
[28:26] Speaker 5: you found your friends and you found your house and
[28:28] Speaker 5: you're super happy, it definitely can feel really stressful to
[28:32] Speaker 5: like learn all the ways that you need to like
[28:35] Speaker 5: do that. On the flip side, like being the recruiter
[28:39] Speaker 5: is definitely a very different experience, and I think just
[28:42] Speaker 5: taking like just being patient with it and like being
[28:46] Speaker 5: excited every single day. And I also think knowing and
[28:49] Speaker 5: being friends with a lot of the girls on the
[28:51] Speaker 5: recruitment chair and like the exect like be willing to
[28:54] Speaker 5: learn and like be respectful during like the meetings where
[28:57] Speaker 5: everyone's like having to listen and learn songs because it
[29:00] Speaker 5: makes it so much harder for everyone if you're going
[29:03] Speaker 5: into it half passing it and not really paying attention
[29:05] Speaker 5: when people are teaching or when people are giving speeches,
[29:08] Speaker 5: Like it is really stressful being on the exact side
[29:10] Speaker 5: of things. So I think going through a work week,
[29:13] Speaker 5: just like know that it's only a couple of days.
[29:15] Speaker 5: It's probably going to feel extremely exhausting, but it really
[29:18] Speaker 5: doesn't last that long, and like it's important to just
[29:21] Speaker 5: like kind of lok in for a couple of days
[29:23] Speaker 5: and like, yeah, it's super fun, it's super like amazing,
[29:25] Speaker 5: but be just like paying attention as much as you can.
[29:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like totally what Sabina said of just
[29:31] Speaker 1: like be respectful to the people who are like taking
[29:34] Speaker 1: the time to teach you what to do during it,
[29:36] Speaker 1: Like they plan that out for months throughout the entire summer,
[29:40] Speaker 1: and there's so much that goes into it on their
[29:42] Speaker 1: ends to where like you just need to be a
[29:44] Speaker 1: team player and just like enjoy it. Like the more
[29:47] Speaker 1: that like you have fun with it, the better it
[29:49] Speaker 1: will be and the easier will be to kind of,
[29:51] Speaker 1: I guess, get through. But like if you guys all
[29:54] Speaker 1: just camaraderiate together and make it fun and make it engaging,
[29:58] Speaker 1: Like it's just gonna make rush even that much better.
[30:00] Speaker 1: I feel like whatever you guys put into recruitment will
[30:03] Speaker 1: like really shine through when you guys want to rush,
[30:05] Speaker 1: and then it's like the most rewarding thing on mid
[30:07] Speaker 1: day when like you look at like the new PC
[30:09] Speaker 1: that you guys all just like recruited, and it's like
[30:11] Speaker 1: a great, great experience, like knowing that like you got
[30:15] Speaker 1: to help get those girls into this house and like
[30:17] Speaker 1: that's kind of gonna be the future of the house
[30:18] Speaker 1: as well.
[30:19] Speaker 2: So yeah, just like take it seriously. There's so much
[30:22] Speaker 2: that goes into it.
[30:23] Speaker 1: But like the more that you put in during recruitment,
[30:25] Speaker 1: the better RUSH will be and the like more enjoyable
[30:27] Speaker 1: bid day and your new PC will be as well.
[30:30] Speaker 1: And also like the pms can tell your excitement, like
[30:34] Speaker 1: if they get excited when you're super excited, so like
[30:37] Speaker 1: by like being super on top of it and being
[30:39] Speaker 1: so welcoming and like practicing those little things like it's
[30:42] Speaker 1: for them. It's not about you guys, Like it's to
[30:45] Speaker 1: rush these new p and ms, So like make it
[30:47] Speaker 1: fun and make it engaging, and like they'll be able
[30:49] Speaker 1: to like feel that energy and want to be part
[30:51] Speaker 1: of your house totally.
[30:53] Speaker 2: I like my biggest two pieces advice are first, like
[30:56] Speaker 2: go into it with an open mind about friendships, because
[30:58] Speaker 2: I feel like so many of my friends friends or
[31:00] Speaker 2: like younger girls I've talked to, like we're so sadd
[31:03] Speaker 2: like their friends and who they were freshman year and
[31:05] Speaker 2: like ended up having like getting so many more friends
[31:08] Speaker 2: and like getting to know so many girls in their
[31:10] Speaker 2: own house. So I feel like just really be open
[31:12] Speaker 2: to like maybe going to get coffee with someone new,
[31:16] Speaker 2: or just like really being open to bringing in more friendships.
[31:19] Speaker 2: And number two would be like do not be the complainer.
[31:22] Speaker 2: Those people are the actual worst. Everyone's tired, everyone wants
[31:25] Speaker 2: to go home. Like if you're the one that's like
[31:27] Speaker 2: sitting in the corner complaining the entire time, like you're
[31:29] Speaker 2: literally just bringing down the vibes, Like be the one
[31:32] Speaker 2: who's like playing the music loud on this speaker, like
[31:35] Speaker 2: getting everyone hyped up, Like like everyone on here has
[31:39] Speaker 2: been saying, like it's literally just about what you put
[31:41] Speaker 2: into it, Like you need to be putting in energy
[31:43] Speaker 2: and like you'll get it back, Like if you like
[31:46] Speaker 2: take it seriously and like have a fun time, like
[31:48] Speaker 2: you will like work, we get so fun. Like I
[31:52] Speaker 2: literally said, I did it three years. It was so fun.
[31:54] Speaker 2: I did my senior year with like ten seniors. No
[31:57] Speaker 2: one does a senior year, and we had a blast.
[32:00] Speaker 2: Like literally, we're just like dancing and having so much fun.
[32:03] Speaker 2: My recruitment chair made a fake position on me for
[32:05] Speaker 2: recruitment team so that she could force me to do
[32:08] Speaker 2: work week and it was so fun and even though
[32:10] Speaker 2: I didn't want to do it, I had a blast.
[32:12] Speaker 2: So that would be my advice, like, just go in
[32:14] Speaker 2: with an open mind. That's it for this episode of
