[0:01] Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
[0:04] Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Daisy.
[0:07] Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
[0:12] Speaker 3: Welcome back for first two of this week's Dirty Rush.
[0:16] Speaker 1: Today, I'm speaking with three generations of my family.
[0:21] Speaker 3: I'm Lauren, Sarah, Megan, Grammy Taylor, and we're here to
[0:27] Speaker 3: answer some more questions. So let's dive into it. How
[0:31] Speaker 3: has your solreaty shaped who you are now years later?
[0:36] Speaker 4: Probably just the friendships that broils down to.
[0:39] Speaker 5: Yeah, that's all you're left with after those four years
[0:41] Speaker 5: of college is how much you keep in touch and
[0:45] Speaker 5: rehashing memories and stories and just laughing about memories, and
[0:50] Speaker 5: that's what it really is.
[0:51] Speaker 6: Left.
[0:52] Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we're doing with that too.
[0:56] Speaker 7: A lot of my s Ferriti's sisters ended up marrying
[1:00] Speaker 7: my husband's fraternity brothers, so we have had some wonderful
[1:05] Speaker 7: reunions and everything.
[1:08] Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that I agree with everything you guys
[1:12] Speaker 8: are saying, like friendships and hopefully they last forever. Since
[1:16] Speaker 8: I just graduated, but also I will stay. Being on
[1:19] Speaker 8: the recruiting side for one time I think was really
[1:23] Speaker 8: interesting just seeing the back end of the process and
[1:26] Speaker 8: it kind of made me more aware of sort of
[1:28] Speaker 8: different recruiting processes when it comes to jobs and stuff
[1:31] Speaker 8: like that, and that there's always more going on and
[1:34] Speaker 8: like more they know about you than you would even imagine.
[1:36] Speaker 8: So maybe a little bit more skeptical. Yeah, what do you.
[1:41] Speaker 1: Think sororities do really well these days? And where do
[1:44] Speaker 1: you think that they fall short?
[1:47] Speaker 8: I think there's a ton of opportunities to get involved,
[1:49] Speaker 8: At least at our school, there's like a million different positions. Yeah,
[1:53] Speaker 8: and it's not really hard to get one. So I
[1:56] Speaker 8: think that's amazing stuff you can add to your resume
[1:59] Speaker 8: leadership opportunities. And then maybe I think they fall short
[2:03] Speaker 8: in terms of actual connection. There's not a ton of
[2:06] Speaker 8: great opportunities to really connect with your whole PCs, especially
[2:09] Speaker 8: if it's like ninety girls like ours are. And so yeah,
[2:14] Speaker 8: I think that's what I would answert to that. I agree.
[2:16] Speaker 6: God, I think a lot of my friends that I've
[2:18] Speaker 6: talked about it, like the boys and their PCs all
[2:21] Speaker 6: have to know like everyone's name and know like three
[2:25] Speaker 6: facts about all of them.
[2:26] Speaker 4: They just get so.
[2:27] Speaker 3: Close through pledging and everything.
[2:29] Speaker 6: And I'm not saying that we should get haste or anything,
[2:31] Speaker 6: But I think that it's definitely super important.
[2:33] Speaker 4: Like my PC is I.
[2:34] Speaker 6: Think one hundred and ten people, and I know like
[2:36] Speaker 6: a lot of them, and I hang out with them
[2:38] Speaker 6: a lot, and I see them at chapter and different
[2:40] Speaker 6: sisterhood events. But there's still people that I will see
[2:43] Speaker 6: her in chapter and I've never met them, and it's
[2:45] Speaker 6: like when am I going to meet them?
[2:46] Speaker 4: Am I ever going to?
[2:47] Speaker 8: And I think that doing more bonding early on would
[2:51] Speaker 8: be definitely like something that I would say they fall
[2:54] Speaker 8: short with. But another thing that came to mind when
[2:57] Speaker 8: you said something that they do well is this kind
[3:00] Speaker 8: of counterintuitive, but like social events with like frats, like
[3:03] Speaker 8: when we had Day Night's first semester, like I got
[3:05] Speaker 8: to know so many of the boys and I got
[3:07] Speaker 8: super close with my friends because we would have those
[3:10] Speaker 8: like multiple.
[3:10] Speaker 4: Times a week and it would be super fun.
[3:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of more refreshment thing.
[3:14] Speaker 7: But I think like social events and formals and stuff
[3:16] Speaker 7: for they do really well with.
[3:17] Speaker 3: Yeah, what about you guys with smaller PCs.
[3:20] Speaker 5: What I noticed they do really well now is something
[3:23] Speaker 5: that we didn't have at all is I'm always impressed.
[3:25] Speaker 4: By this social media.
[3:27] Speaker 5: Oh yeah, it's really amazing because I follow both of
[3:31] Speaker 5: you know, your all's houses, and I think I followed
[3:34] Speaker 5: Pandelantic for them, you know, for the school and the
[3:38] Speaker 5: way they can communicate and promote things and kind of
[3:43] Speaker 5: show their vibe and everything like that, that's impressive to me.
[3:47] Speaker 7: I agree, I'm not very knowledgeable about the starts.
[3:53] Speaker 4: Yeah, through you guys, you know. So, yeah, I have
[3:55] Speaker 4: a good answer for that. This is for Mama Grammy.
[4:00] Speaker 3: I think that RUSH today is harder, easier, or just
[4:03] Speaker 3: really different than when you went through it.
[4:07] Speaker 2: I think it's probably different than when where I went
[4:12] Speaker 2: to school because so many people in the houses and everything,
[4:16] Speaker 2: you know, but you can you still, you know, make
[4:20] Speaker 2: the friendships and everything if you joined. So yeah, yeah,
[4:26] Speaker 2: I would say.
[4:27] Speaker 4: Different, you know, yeah, and maybe harder.
[4:30] Speaker 5: Just I just feel like there's so much more pressure
[4:33] Speaker 5: because there's so much more awareness because of social media
[4:37] Speaker 5: and because of the trends of the most really the
[4:42] Speaker 5: past few years, especially where there's been these breakout stars
[4:46] Speaker 5: that are based on RUSH. Yeah, and they really expose
[4:50] Speaker 5: the process, and I think it makes it a little
[4:54] Speaker 5: different and hard.
[4:55] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[4:56] Speaker 4: I agree.
[4:56] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's interesting to your point earlier where you're talking
[4:59] Speaker 3: about social media. It's such great to market yourself and
[5:02] Speaker 3: to put yourself out there as a house and really
[5:04] Speaker 3: let people get to know you before you come into
[5:07] Speaker 3: rush or to communicate about different things that are going on.
[5:10] Speaker 3: But it also just opens you up to more I
[5:15] Speaker 3: don't know if it's better or worse to have more
[5:16] Speaker 3: knowledge before going into rush, right, because then you just
[5:19] Speaker 3: have preconceived notions and think gets kind of worse.
[5:22] Speaker 7: Yeah, I that's interesting.
[5:24] Speaker 3: What is the worst advice you've ever heard given about rush?
[5:30] Speaker 4: Oh gosh, I'm trying to think.
[5:34] Speaker 3: I think like.
[5:36] Speaker 6: People trying to get information out of you and being like, well,
[5:40] Speaker 6: it's better to get it off your chest just because
[5:41] Speaker 6: they want to know what you're thinking and like where
[5:43] Speaker 6: your head's at with your like thoughts on different authorities.
[5:48] Speaker 6: I think that it's always good to kind of keep
[5:49] Speaker 6: it a little close to you and keep it private
[5:52] Speaker 6: and I do and that that definitely like works in
[5:54] Speaker 6: people's benefit if you like keep it kind of personal
[5:57] Speaker 6: because things get around and stuff.
[6:00] Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
[6:02] Speaker 8: I think the worst advice is gonna spraytand in Texas
[6:05] Speaker 8: because you're gonna sweatish.
[6:08] Speaker 6: White shirt that yeahs orbs are orange it's horrible.
[6:16] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like the Panemtic shirt. You like pair it
[6:18] Speaker 3: with a skirt.
[6:19] Speaker 4: And they have to wear it three days and a
[6:20] Speaker 4: rossive to wash.
[6:21] Speaker 6: It and it is like two hundred outside its recipe.
[6:26] Speaker 4: For that one.
[6:29] Speaker 3: Do you look back on anything you did during Russia
[6:32] Speaker 3: and cringe?
[6:33] Speaker 4: That's a good Onok.
[6:34] Speaker 5: Yeah, some of the chants and songs that I looked
[6:38] Speaker 5: back made me cringe a little bit, and kind of
[6:44] Speaker 5: some of the not skits but music things, And yeah,
[6:48] Speaker 5: it's not very sophisticated back in the nineties.
[6:51] Speaker 3: I agree.
[6:51] Speaker 8: I think some of the TikTok dances I just like
[6:55] Speaker 8: didn't need to participated.
[6:58] Speaker 4: Wayste just snakes.
[7:00] Speaker 2: We thought, like curfew, it's just through the downstairs window.
[7:08] Speaker 3: Yeah we did.
[7:10] Speaker 4: So, I'm not real proud of that. Get caught.
[7:15] Speaker 7: No, we have like a home monitor, so it's a
[7:22] Speaker 7: little different.
[7:22] Speaker 2: Oh, we had a house mother that lived in the house,
[7:25] Speaker 2: but she'd always been asleep.
[7:26] Speaker 4: In no problem. That's funny.
[7:31] Speaker 6: I think during Rush the only thing that cringed me
[7:33] Speaker 6: out was wearing silver jewelry with like an outpit.
[7:35] Speaker 7: That was like so bad for silver jewelry.
[7:37] Speaker 4: I still think of it sometimes. That's just me.
[7:41] Speaker 1: I think during Rush, my worst moment was there was
[7:44] Speaker 1: a house that I really really didn't want, and I
[7:46] Speaker 1: was having a really bad day because I got cut
[7:48] Speaker 1: from like every house I liked, and I went in
[7:51] Speaker 1: there and I kind of watched.
[7:53] Speaker 4: It because I knew I didn't want that house, and
[7:56] Speaker 4: I feel really.
[7:56] Speaker 1: Bad about that because I think I should have given
[7:58] Speaker 1: everybody a more chance, a more open minded chance. But
[8:05] Speaker 1: the squirrel was asking me what a venger would be
[8:08] Speaker 1: if I was a supero, and honestly, I don't want to.
[8:15] Speaker 1: I was like crashing out. If your sorority were a
[8:20] Speaker 1: reality TV show, which one would it be?
[8:25] Speaker 4: I would have been The Secret Lives and Morbid Lives.
[8:29] Speaker 3: Everyone was getting married way too young.
[8:31] Speaker 4: Oh my god, Oh gosh, that's a good one.
[8:34] Speaker 5: I feel like min would have been this is before
[8:36] Speaker 5: your Guys time. But it was an MTV reality show
[8:40] Speaker 5: called The Real World.
[8:41] Speaker 4: What was it about?
[8:42] Speaker 5: It was just like they would just pick like eight
[8:45] Speaker 5: or ten strangers and put them all in a house
[8:48] Speaker 5: together and they would spend the summer together. Yeah, and
[8:53] Speaker 5: you would just see how the friendships would develop and
[8:55] Speaker 5: who would.
[8:56] Speaker 4: Hang out with you and what they would go do.
[8:57] Speaker 4: Y the real world.
[8:59] Speaker 8: I feel like ours would be some like fun show
[9:02] Speaker 8: like love Islant. Yeah, I feel like spring Breakers. Yeah,
[9:06] Speaker 8: totally totally.
[9:09] Speaker 4: I don't No, I don't what about any show, any show?
[9:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh, let me think about it.
[9:22] Speaker 9: Oh, No, friends could be friends, or that would be
[9:29] Speaker 9: or the ones that TC could be for more ones
[9:31] Speaker 9: a wife because they're all going to the South.
[9:49] Speaker 3: Did being in different sororities from each other ever cause
[9:53] Speaker 3: any tension or friendly rivalry.
[9:55] Speaker 4: In this family?
[9:57] Speaker 8: I think when I joined a different when then you
[10:00] Speaker 8: were in at TCU, I didn't want it to hurt
[10:02] Speaker 8: your feelings or anything, but I think looking back, you
[10:06] Speaker 8: didn't care.
[10:07] Speaker 4: I think I've really checked out at that.
[10:09] Speaker 5: Yeah, I haven't observed that as your mom's you know,
[10:14] Speaker 5: as your mom, I know.
[10:15] Speaker 3: And it's surprising us all being at the same school.
[10:19] Speaker 3: But I think I don't know when you think about
[10:23] Speaker 3: sisterhood when it comes to sororities, like, we already have
[10:26] Speaker 3: my favorite sisterhood, and so anything outside of that is
[10:30] Speaker 3: like extra and it's friendship, but it's not the sisterhood.
[10:33] Speaker 5: That we When you have sisters, multiple sisters, like you,
[10:38] Speaker 5: really that's your core.
[10:40] Speaker 4: Yeah, we don't hold it as high of a pedestal. Yeah, definitely.
[10:45] Speaker 3: If you could switch places and join any other person,
[10:48] Speaker 3: here's sorority. What would you pick and why? Grammy?
[10:54] Speaker 4: I would pay Grammy? Would that be fun?
[10:56] Speaker 3: I would choose Mom.
[10:57] Speaker 6: It was because Alpha house everyone, it's like the top
[11:01] Speaker 6: house across the country.
[11:03] Speaker 9: Yeah.
[11:04] Speaker 3: I feel like it is really good at nationally and
[11:05] Speaker 3: I would have loved to experience it.
[11:07] Speaker 4: At USD just chill lot. It was good.
[11:10] Speaker 5: But I also would pick the time frame of Grammy's
[11:14] Speaker 5: like in the sixties and before we had phone and
[11:18] Speaker 5: if your boyfriend wanted to call and ask you out,
[11:21] Speaker 5: he'd have to call the house phone or someone would
[11:25] Speaker 5: have to take a message for you, you know, just
[11:27] Speaker 5: like yeah, that.
[11:28] Speaker 4: Innocent times we had phone booths. You're gonna have privacy. Well,
[11:35] Speaker 4: I don't know for privacy. It was just the old
[11:38] Speaker 4: boy I'm doing. Yeah, yeah, did you was it you?
[11:40] Speaker 5: I know Dad had this for his fraternity. But did
[11:43] Speaker 5: you have a sleeping porch?
[11:45] Speaker 6: Yes?
[11:46] Speaker 4: So yeah, can you talk that? Explain the sleeping porch?
[11:49] Speaker 4: Oh my gosh.
[11:51] Speaker 2: Well it was a whole floor up from the living area,
[11:55] Speaker 2: and I guess we got to sign beds. I don't
[11:59] Speaker 2: think we got to fight over who gets what, and
[12:04] Speaker 2: you can just get up whenever you wanted.
[12:06] Speaker 4: You know, there was just a room with all the beds. Yeah,
[12:09] Speaker 4: all the beds a commuter.
[12:12] Speaker 2: Well, I will say the rooms we've shared were two
[12:16] Speaker 2: people per room and we did. I think you you've
[12:21] Speaker 2: had sort of like a day bed in there, but
[12:23] Speaker 2: it's small.
[12:24] Speaker 4: You but you were expected to sleep on the sleeping port.
[12:27] Speaker 3: That's crazy and I know, wow, do you feel like
[12:30] Speaker 3: you've got good rest?
[12:32] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[12:32] Speaker 4: I do. I don't remember it a problem.
[12:35] Speaker 6: I think I want to be able to sleep when
[12:37] Speaker 6: people like stay up late or get home and you'd
[12:40] Speaker 6: get annoyed.
[12:41] Speaker 4: No, I think you were just so used to people
[12:44] Speaker 4: coming and going.
[12:44] Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't even wake you up and it was
[12:47] Speaker 5: just for sleep, like that's where you were.
[12:48] Speaker 4: Yeah, right, no strangers, no, no boys a lot.
[12:57] Speaker 3: Well, thank you guys so much for joining this episode.
[13:01] Speaker 3: It's been so fun to reflect just kind of as
