[0:01] Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority life with
[0:04] Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice.
[0:06] Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
[0:12] Speaker 1: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush. I'm your host,
[0:15] Speaker 1: Daisy Kent, and today we are jumping into part two
[0:17] Speaker 1: of Sorority Sisterhood after Graduation. Can you introduce yourselves and
[0:23] Speaker 1: where you went to college and how you met?
[0:26] Speaker 3: So we went to Arizona State and we graduated ninety seven.
[0:33] Speaker 2: I was going to say ninety seven. Yep, ninety seven.
[0:35] Speaker 1: That is so amazing. So how long have you guys
[0:38] Speaker 1: been friends for?
[0:39] Speaker 4: Well, the interesting part is actually I, even though I'm
[0:42] Speaker 4: the same age as Flora and Katie, who is somewhere
[0:48] Speaker 4: we actually I came into Arizona State a year later.
[0:52] Speaker 4: I went to another school first and then came to
[0:53] Speaker 4: Arizona State. So they were already friends and in the sorority.
[0:58] Speaker 4: So Flora actually ended up being my pledge mom as
[1:01] Speaker 4: we went through sorority. So as we went through Rush,
[1:03] Speaker 4: she ended up being my big sister. So that's how
[1:06] Speaker 4: we ended up meeting. Originally as we went through she
[1:09] Speaker 4: kind of kind of found me and kind of followed
[1:11] Speaker 4: me through and it was.
[1:14] Speaker 2: That was how we became good friends.
[1:16] Speaker 1: I love that. That's so fun. So I just had
[1:18] Speaker 1: my little on for this episode too. She was a
[1:22] Speaker 1: little earlier. I had talked to her, but I had
[1:24] Speaker 1: her on and me and her are like super close.
[1:26] Speaker 1: She's I'm getting married in December and she's one of
[1:29] Speaker 1: my bridesmaids.
[1:30] Speaker 2: Oh that's so fun.
[1:32] Speaker 1: Yeah, So that's so cool to like see you guys
[1:34] Speaker 1: and that you have like had this relationship.
[1:38] Speaker 2: But there she is. There's kath We call her Catherine,
[1:40] Speaker 2: and her name's Katie.
[1:41] Speaker 1: We met basically when we were.
[1:43] Speaker 3: Eighteen nineteen years old, and we all just basically turned
[1:47] Speaker 3: fifty or fifty one. We're in the fifty to fifty
[1:49] Speaker 3: one age, so we're going on what is about thirty
[1:51] Speaker 3: something years?
[1:53] Speaker 1: Do you have like some favorite memories of when you
[1:57] Speaker 1: guys were in college together?
[2:00] Speaker 4: Member Flora just being having so much life and being
[2:03] Speaker 4: a pledge. I kind of I knew one of our
[2:05] Speaker 4: other soorty sisters was my friend from junior high high
[2:08] Speaker 4: school in college and she had already had this great
[2:12] Speaker 4: group of friends and you know, kind of brought me
[2:14] Speaker 4: in under her wing and you know, just clicked with everybody.
[2:17] Speaker 4: Because we were already friends. So but I remember Flora
[2:22] Speaker 4: just having so much life and always kind of wanted
[2:25] Speaker 4: to protect me, and so anything that would go on
[2:28] Speaker 4: or anywhere she and her boyfriend at the time would
[2:31] Speaker 4: just you know, take me somewhere, get me anywhere I
[2:34] Speaker 4: would go, And I just remember thinking that I kind
[2:37] Speaker 4: of didn't have to do a lot any of the
[2:39] Speaker 4: you know, hazing kind of stuff that not hazing, but
[2:42] Speaker 4: like it just kind of like the different things like
[2:44] Speaker 4: you know, oh, you know, here's a quarter, go, you know,
[2:47] Speaker 4: make a phone call to somebody, you know, whatever, the
[2:49] Speaker 4: silly things that they used to make us do.
[2:51] Speaker 2: She kind of just always kind of pushed me.
[2:53] Speaker 4: Through, so I, you know, as we were going through,
[2:54] Speaker 4: so she always just kind of took care of me.
[2:56] Speaker 4: So I don't know if there's any one specific thing
[2:58] Speaker 4: that I can remember, but what about you, Phloe.
[3:01] Speaker 3: One of my most let's call it honorable mention ak
[3:05] Speaker 3: embarrassing moments was freshman year. It was parents weekend and
[3:10] Speaker 3: my mom was not able to come out, so all
[3:12] Speaker 3: of my girlfriend's parents were there and they decided to
[3:15] Speaker 3: take us out to Kyoto's, which is like a tepanyaki
[3:19] Speaker 3: sake bombing place, and clearly I did not know how
[3:22] Speaker 3: to control my alcohol intake, and I one hundred percent
[3:27] Speaker 3: overserved myself and I ended up on the floor of
[3:32] Speaker 3: the restaurant with a rose in my mouth. And there
[3:37] Speaker 3: was a cop one or two of our other friends
[3:39] Speaker 3: that decided to join me in that picture. But we
[3:41] Speaker 3: die laughing because we pull out pictures every so often,
[3:45] Speaker 3: and that is like a story that we will remember
[3:47] Speaker 3: for the rest of our lives. And I'm glad that
[3:50] Speaker 3: those parents got to know me, because I would think
[3:53] Speaker 3: first impression is like, you do not be friends with
[3:55] Speaker 3: that girl. But I think I've redeemed myself after you know,
[4:00] Speaker 3: thirty years of friendship. But it was hands down one
[4:03] Speaker 3: of our funniest moments, especially for everybody else.
[4:09] Speaker 4: I think some of the times that are so funny too.
[4:11] Speaker 4: What we do now is probably once a month, when't
[4:15] Speaker 4: you say, Flora, one of us finds a picture from
[4:17] Speaker 4: when we were in college, and you know, one of
[4:21] Speaker 4: my favorite is some of the girls not Flora and I,
[4:24] Speaker 4: well maybe you did flow, I don't remember, but really
[4:27] Speaker 4: love that Jennifer Aniston haircut from friends and it was
[4:32] Speaker 4: short and real, magical and so just as a little
[4:37] Speaker 4: bit of you know, kind of make people laugh a
[4:40] Speaker 4: little bit. We will show like snapshot pictures that, you know,
[4:44] Speaker 4: take a picture on our iPhone and send it out
[4:46] Speaker 4: to our group. We have a group that is says
[4:49] Speaker 4: the Girls, and it's on WhatsApp and it has like
[4:51] Speaker 4: crying faces on it and the Golden Girls, and so
[4:54] Speaker 4: we just that's how we kind of communicate. We have
[4:56] Speaker 4: this group chat, and so we would put stuff on there.
[4:59] Speaker 4: And if you just run across a picture that is
[5:01] Speaker 4: I mean just too good for words, you got to
[5:04] Speaker 4: post it.
[5:04] Speaker 2: I mean, even if you're having.
[5:05] Speaker 4: A bad day, you can look at that picture and
[5:07] Speaker 4: be like, I mean, it could have been worse. We
[5:08] Speaker 4: could have been lying in the middle of Kyoto's after
[5:11] Speaker 4: stocky bombs.
[5:14] Speaker 1: That's so fun. I love that you guys have like
[5:17] Speaker 1: such a close relationship still. That's awesome.
[5:21] Speaker 4: I feel like there was a lot during college, but
[5:23] Speaker 4: I feel like our relationship has gotten even closer after
[5:26] Speaker 4: college and through kids and helping each other through life
[5:29] Speaker 4: in general.
[5:31] Speaker 1: Off of that, you said, like, as you guys have
[5:33] Speaker 1: gotten older and had kids, do you guys have any
[5:36] Speaker 1: kids that are like college age and have gone through recruitment.
[5:41] Speaker 3: So I would say that, let's see here, Jane, her
[5:46] Speaker 3: daughter and my daughter are almost the same age. She
[5:50] Speaker 3: went to TC, My daughter went to Auburn. She now
[5:53] Speaker 3: lives in New York.
[5:55] Speaker 2: And then.
[5:57] Speaker 3: Let's see who so and then our friend Taren, her
[6:01] Speaker 3: daughter goes to Tennessee. So she went through Rush. And
[6:05] Speaker 3: then what is set? Are those the oldest out of
[6:08] Speaker 3: all of us?
[6:08] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[6:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, so we have some boys in there, but as
[6:12] Speaker 3: far as the girls, they yeah, definitely went through rush.
[6:16] Speaker 3: I do have a funny story about when I dirty
[6:18] Speaker 3: rushed Ashley.
[6:20] Speaker 2: Do you remember that?
[6:21] Speaker 1: I would love to hear it.
[6:23] Speaker 2: Yes.
[6:24] Speaker 3: So Ashley, who's a little firecracker. She I met her
[6:29] Speaker 3: in the dorm and I only lived in the dorm
[6:31] Speaker 3: like for only not very long because I moved on
[6:34] Speaker 3: to the asue they have sorority floors. Anyways, I met
[6:36] Speaker 3: Ashley thiss cues the button and she ended up going
[6:41] Speaker 3: through Spring Rush, and I just didn't follow the rules
[6:44] Speaker 3: and would just be calling her behind the scenes.
[6:49] Speaker 2: Yes, I had like kindsight.
[6:50] Speaker 3: That was not the best idea, but she I'm like,
[6:53] Speaker 3: just don't I promise you. I promise you. Because a
[6:55] Speaker 3: couple of us also were great exceptions. I was one
[6:58] Speaker 3: of them. Are their friend Ulye. But I kept telling Ashley,
[7:01] Speaker 3: do not go another house. I promise you we're going
[7:04] Speaker 3: to take you. So yeah, but I would say, are
[7:10] Speaker 3: it was helpful for our daughters going through rush, especially
[7:12] Speaker 3: some of the you know, the Southern rushes, or it
[7:15] Speaker 3: can be a little intimidating.
[7:19] Speaker 1: Fixed for already that like you wanted your daughter to
[7:22] Speaker 1: go into or did you like not care and we're
[7:24] Speaker 1: just like whatever, you know, we're DJ.
[7:27] Speaker 3: So obviously I was like, I would have loved it
[7:29] Speaker 3: if she was a Digi, but she ended up going
[7:34] Speaker 3: pi Fei. She was between pie Fey Find Me, Find
[7:37] Speaker 3: Me was definitely more Southern, I would say, okay, and
[7:41] Speaker 3: so pi fi was had a little bit more diversity
[7:45] Speaker 3: as far as girls at different areas. But she was
[7:48] Speaker 3: pretty torn till the very end.
[7:51] Speaker 2: But she did. Yeah, she did decide to.
[7:54] Speaker 1: Go Piel for her like seeing you be so close
[7:59] Speaker 1: to there's already sisters still, like do you think she's
[8:02] Speaker 1: found that in her sorority?
[8:04] Speaker 3: I mean, I will say that I don't know. I mean,
[8:09] Speaker 3: and do you know if any other girls you know,
[8:11] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[8:12] Speaker 4: It's so funny because we just we just were in
[8:13] Speaker 4: France and our friend who were in France with it
[8:16] Speaker 4: was her fiftieth and so she had this great party
[8:20] Speaker 4: and all families were invited. So for me, my family
[8:23] Speaker 4: couldn't come. I have a son who's fifteen, and my
[8:25] Speaker 4: husband was working, and so it was just me that came.
[8:28] Speaker 4: But Laura's whole family came, Katie's whole family came, Jana's
[8:34] Speaker 4: daughter came.
[8:35] Speaker 2: You know, Ashley's.
[8:36] Speaker 4: Girls are younger, younger even than my son, so they
[8:38] Speaker 4: didn't come. But like to see all the kids that
[8:42] Speaker 4: they don't know each other besides being with us, and
[8:45] Speaker 4: we're all these aunts that they've been shoved onto and
[8:50] Speaker 4: just you know, like loving them and being there, but
[8:52] Speaker 4: to see them all together and they don't know each
[8:55] Speaker 4: other very I mean, they know each other from us
[8:56] Speaker 4: being together, but it's like their connection was so close
[8:59] Speaker 4: because we're so close. But a couple of them had
[9:03] Speaker 4: told I mean, I'm sure Savannah told you to Flora,
[9:05] Speaker 4: but it was like, I think we're kind of a unicorn, Like,
[9:10] Speaker 4: I mean, there is you know, I mean, what is
[9:12] Speaker 4: it Flora, one, two, three.
[9:14] Speaker 2: Four or five, six seven?
[9:17] Speaker 4: Is there six or seven of us that this whole
[9:20] Speaker 4: time seven that have stayed. I mean there's not a
[9:24] Speaker 4: day that doesn't go by that we don't at least
[9:26] Speaker 4: text with one of one of the group, or if
[9:29] Speaker 4: not a whole group text and talk to each other.
[9:32] Speaker 4: I mean, we get really mad when we don't see
[9:34] Speaker 4: each other at least once, if not twice a year
[9:37] Speaker 4: and make a point. So I think it's to see
[9:40] Speaker 4: the kids then go on and be so close to
[9:43] Speaker 4: and want those same relationships for themselves. I feel like
[9:47] Speaker 4: that's kind of an example we tried to set for them,
[9:49] Speaker 4: Like your most important friends are the ones that you
[9:53] Speaker 4: know help you survive through life. And that's what we
[9:56] Speaker 4: all kind of done together, is we've grown up together
[9:59] Speaker 4: and now have raised our kids to get you know,
[10:01] Speaker 4: you get advice like oh my gosh, what's happening here,
[10:04] Speaker 4: and somebody's been through it at some point.
[10:06] Speaker 1: So I think it's so special.
[10:11] Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
[10:12] Speaker 4: I don't think it's I think it's pretty rare. I
[10:13] Speaker 4: mean most people have a couple sorority sisters that are friends,
[10:16] Speaker 4: but not all of us that get along so well.
[10:18] Speaker 2: You know, we do make it a priority too.
[10:21] Speaker 3: You know, you really do have to put the effort
[10:22] Speaker 3: in and we live all across the whole country, So
[10:25] Speaker 3: some of it is just being intentional to keep those
[10:29] Speaker 3: relationships going.
[10:30] Speaker 2: But we it's definitely a priority for us.
[10:33] Speaker 1: Yeah. Sure, like life, Like I feel like after I graduated,
[10:38] Speaker 1: like it got so much more busy. Like I can't
[10:40] Speaker 1: imagine like when like I'm married and like start having
[10:44] Speaker 1: kids and stuff, I'm like, it just gets crazier. So
[10:48] Speaker 1: that's so awesome that you guys have saved friends this
[10:51] Speaker 1: whole time, and that you all are so intentional with that.
[10:54] Speaker 4: I think one of the most amazing things that I've
[10:57] Speaker 4: noticed is these kids, like Savannah being grown up, the
[11:00] Speaker 4: conversations that I had with them on this trip. I mean,
[11:05] Speaker 4: it's like, oh my gosh, I'd love the person you've
[11:07] Speaker 4: turned into. I loved your family, and I knew you
[11:09] Speaker 4: were going to be great, but now you've exceeded my expectations,
[11:12] Speaker 4: you know. So But I do feel like it's because
[11:14] Speaker 4: a little bit of all of us have all kind
[11:16] Speaker 4: of you know, we've all been at least a little
[11:18] Speaker 4: part or we've used each other as examples as we've
[11:22] Speaker 4: raised our kids to be, you know, to help them through.
[11:25] Speaker 4: So it's it's so nice to have that base and
[11:28] Speaker 4: that you know, support system. But I will tell you
[11:31] Speaker 4: that even still these old ladies can really do some shenanigans.
[11:34] Speaker 4: So even on our girls' trips, we come out really hot,
[11:38] Speaker 4: we're like a roaming candle and go really big and
[11:40] Speaker 4: then we maybe have to rest the next.
[11:42] Speaker 1: Day before I let you guys go. Do you have
[11:44] Speaker 1: like any like advice that you would give somebody that's
[11:48] Speaker 1: graduating college and they want to keep a good relationship
[11:52] Speaker 1: with their sorority sisters.
[11:54] Speaker 3: I would say, And we all had like kids sort
[11:58] Speaker 3: of at different times, and you do go through different phases,
[12:00] Speaker 3: but again it's really taking the time and making it
[12:04] Speaker 3: intentional and a priority. Like for me, I moved quite
[12:08] Speaker 3: a few times, but like this, these girls are always
[12:11] Speaker 3: been my rock, and so it's just making sure that
[12:15] Speaker 3: even if you you know, you'll meet like meet moms
[12:18] Speaker 3: in the Mom's club and all these different things. We've
[12:20] Speaker 3: all made obviously made other friends, but this is a
[12:23] Speaker 3: pretty special bond.
[12:24] Speaker 2: I'd say these are our our go to girls for sure.
[12:29] Speaker 2: I think also we all have.
[12:30] Speaker 4: Been very vulnerable and authentic with each other. Like I
[12:34] Speaker 4: think that's a really important thing to not trying to
[12:38] Speaker 4: be someone you're not, and I think all of us
[12:41] Speaker 4: feel comfortable enough to if we see that happening, be like,
[12:45] Speaker 4: wait a minute, what's happening here? You guys put yourself
[12:48] Speaker 4: in check or you know, there's no problem calling each
[12:50] Speaker 4: other out to be able to make sure that we,
[12:53] Speaker 4: you know, we stay true to who we are and
[12:56] Speaker 4: being authentic and who we've always been. So I think
[12:59] Speaker 4: that's it's important to have good friends that you can
[13:01] Speaker 4: find that do that. They can be your tree leaders,
[13:04] Speaker 4: but they can also be your reprimenders to say, hey,
[13:07] Speaker 4: look at that's not who you are. Don't be that way,
[13:09] Speaker 4: you know, like stay on your path.
[13:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that. Well, thank you guys so much.
[13:15] Speaker 1: This was so amazing and so many people are gonna
[13:18] Speaker 1: love listening to this. I mean, I love talking to
[13:20] Speaker 1: you guys, like makes me excited about me and my
[13:24] Speaker 1: friends too. And when we all start having kids and everything,
[13:28] Speaker 1: I can't believe you all went to France together. That's
[13:30] Speaker 1: so fun.
[13:30] Speaker 4: That was the craziest part to see these kids now
[13:32] Speaker 4: grown up and like having a beer or I'm like, wait, no, no,
[13:36] Speaker 4: you're you're not old enough to be doing that.
[13:38] Speaker 2: Oh wait, yeah you are.
[13:39] Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, this is so weird because I haven't
[13:42] Speaker 4: gotten any older. I don't know how you're okay to
[13:43] Speaker 4: do this.
[13:44] Speaker 2: That's the other thing.
[13:45] Speaker 3: We still think we're eighteen even though we're really not,
[13:47] Speaker 3: but we'd like to pretend.
[13:51] Speaker 1: Well, thank you so much. I really really appreciate.
[13:53] Speaker 4: Thanks Davie for having us.
[14:09] Speaker 1: Hey, Joan, thanks for coming on. I'm excited to chat
[14:12] Speaker 1: with you.
[14:13] Speaker 5: Thanks for having me. You know, it's funny.
[14:15] Speaker 6: The only time I talk about my sorority anymore is
[14:17] Speaker 6: on iHeartRadio. I know where I was, Like, it's bringing
[14:21] Speaker 6: back all these memories. I kind of love it. And
[14:23] Speaker 6: recently I actually went back to my story, which I
[14:25] Speaker 6: had done a really long time.
[14:27] Speaker 1: No way, that's so fund Yeah, it was really funny.
[14:30] Speaker 1: Did you see a bunch of the girls that were
[14:32] Speaker 1: like in it now?
[14:34] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[14:34] Speaker 6: And it's so different. When I was in the sorority,
[14:37] Speaker 6: I got in like I was a little bit of
[14:39] Speaker 6: a nerd. I was a computer nerd. I was like,
[14:41] Speaker 6: and that's kind of why I joined aurority. I had like,
[14:43] Speaker 6: really no social life and I joined when I was
[14:46] Speaker 6: a junior, so I didn't rush until I was a junior.
[14:49] Speaker 6: And I know, it's crazy and I mareculously got in
[14:52] Speaker 6: because my sorority was on academic probation because they were
[14:57] Speaker 6: not smart girls. They were partiers. It was a party stority.
[15:01] Speaker 6: So I got in the perfect sorority for me because
[15:03] Speaker 6: that's what I needed. But they needed me because I
[15:06] Speaker 6: brought their GPA up and they got off academic probation.
[15:09] Speaker 1: What school and what sorority was it?
[15:11] Speaker 6: I was University of Maryland and I was a Delta Cama.
[15:14] Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, so fun.
[15:15] Speaker 5: What were you?
[15:16] Speaker 1: I was Alpha Fie and I went to San Diego State?
[15:20] Speaker 1: And are you So? Do you keep in touch with
[15:22] Speaker 1: any of your sorority sisters?
[15:24] Speaker 5: A few?
[15:25] Speaker 6: I one really good friend, like she was in my wedding,
[15:28] Speaker 6: I was in hers, that kind of girl. But and
[15:30] Speaker 6: a few live in this area that I I'll see
[15:32] Speaker 6: out every once in a while, and I've kept in
[15:34] Speaker 6: touch with kind of sporadically over the years, but other
[15:37] Speaker 6: than that, I haven't really, but like I weirdly will
[15:40] Speaker 6: meet people that So the day I got announced to
[15:43] Speaker 6: be the Golden Bachelorette, like to the world, was at
[15:45] Speaker 6: these things called the Disney upfronts. Yeah and after and
[15:48] Speaker 6: it's a big, big, cuge thing. And afterwards we go
[15:51] Speaker 6: to this big hotel and they have a giganic with
[15:54] Speaker 6: thousands of people in a ballroom, a like a meet
[15:57] Speaker 6: and greet, and so everybody that's gone to be on
[16:00] Speaker 6: shows in like starting in the fall, they had there,
[16:03] Speaker 6: as well as all these media people.
[16:05] Speaker 5: So some boy came up.
[16:06] Speaker 6: To me, he's like, hey, you were friends with my mom.
[16:08] Speaker 6: She was in your sorority and I'm like who, and
[16:10] Speaker 6: he tells me your name. I'm like, oh, my gosh,
[16:12] Speaker 6: and yeah, sure enough it was her son. So now
[16:15] Speaker 6: he like works in media. I know, so I'm old.
[16:17] Speaker 6: And then my son's best friend, his aunt was in
[16:21] Speaker 6: my sorority and she was in my PIF's class. Even so,
[16:24] Speaker 6: like everyone's like you just like get a sprinkling of
[16:26] Speaker 6: people that have been in your life over the years
[16:28] Speaker 6: and you just had no idea.
[16:29] Speaker 1: It's so crazy how like things like become so connected.
[16:34] Speaker 1: It feels like.
[16:35] Speaker 5: It really is funny.
[16:36] Speaker 6: And you know, if you just are around and you
[16:38] Speaker 6: get to be old like me, then things just keep
[16:41] Speaker 6: coming full circle.
[16:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, did your daughters when they were in college, did
[16:47] Speaker 1: they do sororities?
[16:49] Speaker 5: Neither one of them.
[16:49] Speaker 6: My boys were athletes, so they didn't do them either,
[16:52] Speaker 6: so I kind of was the end of Greek.
[16:54] Speaker 5: Like my niece did it.
[16:55] Speaker 6: She went to University of Florida and she was in
[16:57] Speaker 6: a SERRITI. I couldn't even tell you which one though.
[16:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, fun. Do you have a memory from
[17:02] Speaker 1: being in authority that still makes you like.
[17:05] Speaker 5: Laugh so so many? Yeah, you know, living in a.
[17:09] Speaker 6: House with a bunch of girls, there is like a
[17:11] Speaker 6: memory a day.
[17:12] Speaker 1: I feel like, literally, there's nothing like that. It was.
[17:16] Speaker 1: I lived in the house for a year and it
[17:18] Speaker 1: was so much fun.
[17:20] Speaker 6: Wasn't like one of the funnest things that we had
[17:23] Speaker 6: a dormer, so we all slept in the same room,
[17:25] Speaker 6: and then we had day rooms where like that's where
[17:27] Speaker 6: you kind of liked ad homework or whatever, and you
[17:29] Speaker 6: had one day bed and then three desk and three dressers,
[17:32] Speaker 6: and we had like that level of the floor was
[17:36] Speaker 6: just a disaster area. We were all borrowing each other's clothes.
[17:40] Speaker 6: It was the rooms were small.
[17:42] Speaker 5: It was a disaster, but we had so much fun.
[17:44] Speaker 6: And I'll tell you the memory I remember most that
[17:46] Speaker 6: was really funny was it was kind of I don't know,
[17:50] Speaker 6: like I'm not a hairy person probably like you. But
[17:53] Speaker 6: girls were waxing and it was like their first experience
[17:56] Speaker 6: with waxing, and it was we were about to go
[17:59] Speaker 6: on spring breaks, so they decided to do their bikini lines.
[18:02] Speaker 6: So the whole bikini ria and so like four of
[18:06] Speaker 6: the girls were in a room. I happened to walk
[18:07] Speaker 6: in and they were all like like smearing the wax
[18:10] Speaker 6: on and the first one goes to.
[18:13] Speaker 5: Pull it off and she screams bloody.
[18:16] Speaker 6: Murder and she's like, you aren't so bad, and so
[18:18] Speaker 6: they're all waxed and they don't know how to get
[18:20] Speaker 6: it off now because now none of them want to
[18:21] Speaker 6: do it.
[18:24] Speaker 5: I will always remember that.
[18:25] Speaker 6: First of all, I've never done the waxing thing, and
[18:28] Speaker 6: I was like, well, I never will because I've been
[18:30] Speaker 6: scarred after that experience.
[18:32] Speaker 5: I could never do it. Like it's horrible.
[18:34] Speaker 1: That's so fun. Okay. Is there something that you wish
[18:53] Speaker 1: you knew when you were twenty about friendship?
[18:56] Speaker 6: So I think like, like, probably you're probably still in
[18:59] Speaker 6: the stage of your life where you think that the
[19:01] Speaker 6: friends that you make at that stage you'll be friends
[19:03] Speaker 6: with forever, and that it's not going to take effort
[19:06] Speaker 6: because you.
[19:07] Speaker 5: Know you love them so much and you're so close now, but.
[19:10] Speaker 6: Like life kind of gets away from you, and sometimes,
[19:13] Speaker 6: like friendships that are important to you, you don't make
[19:17] Speaker 6: the effort that you need to to keep them because
[19:20] Speaker 6: all of a sudden, a month has gone by, our
[19:21] Speaker 6: a day iss gone buy, or two days are going by,
[19:23] Speaker 6: a week's gone by, a month's go by, all of
[19:24] Speaker 6: a sudden, a year has gone by, and it's so
[19:26] Speaker 6: hard to catch up. And you keep thinking, I'm going
[19:29] Speaker 6: to call them and we're going to catch up, but
[19:31] Speaker 6: you think, oh, I'm going to need an hour to
[19:32] Speaker 6: do that, so you keep not doing it. I think
[19:35] Speaker 6: maintaining important friendships, you know, as time goes on is hard,
[19:40] Speaker 6: And if I had known to do that, I probably
[19:42] Speaker 6: would have been better friends with people that I had
[19:45] Speaker 6: been in my serrority with people that I really loved
[19:47] Speaker 6: and I still wonder in my mind whatever happened to them.
[19:50] Speaker 6: So they were really like part of my life and
[19:52] Speaker 6: a big part of my life and part of my history,
[19:54] Speaker 6: and I wish I had known that that, you know,
[19:57] Speaker 6: make sure that you maintain those friendships come a lot
[20:00] Speaker 6: better as I've gotten older, Like I have people I've
[20:03] Speaker 6: been friends with for thirty years now, but kind of
[20:05] Speaker 6: that little chunk of my life like growing up to
[20:09] Speaker 6: like through my college years, I haven't been as.
[20:12] Speaker 1: Good about Yeah, oh that's great to know too. I'm
[20:16] Speaker 1: like I need to make sure because it's crazy how
[20:19] Speaker 1: even after like when I graduated, how like busy life
[20:23] Speaker 1: gets and like you don't realize you're all starting different jobs,
[20:26] Speaker 1: like you're all doing different things, and now people move
[20:29] Speaker 1: different places, and so just like making time to like yeah,
[20:34] Speaker 1: like reach out.
[20:35] Speaker 6: To like the people that to maintain those friendships as
[20:38] Speaker 6: hard and I feel like I did it for about
[20:40] Speaker 6: ten years. So when we were all in the you know,
[20:43] Speaker 6: kind of still partying stage skate that come out of college,
[20:45] Speaker 6: still super social, then a lot of us you know,
[20:49] Speaker 6: met people. So then we were in the wedding stage
[20:51] Speaker 6: and you got together.
[20:52] Speaker 5: For weddings, and then we were kind of in the
[20:54] Speaker 5: baby stage a little bit.
[20:55] Speaker 6: And I think that's about when it faded, because when
[20:58] Speaker 6: you're in the baby stage is when it gets really
[21:00] Speaker 6: busy and you know, your life revolves around your kids
[21:03] Speaker 6: instead of your social life.
[21:05] Speaker 5: And that's when I kind of lost touch.
[21:07] Speaker 6: So the first ten years after college, I think I
[21:09] Speaker 6: was good and then you know, then it kind of
[21:11] Speaker 6: really lagged and I feel bad. I feel like I
[21:13] Speaker 6: wish I had maintained you know, some of those relationships.
[21:16] Speaker 1: Yeah. Do you think that the sisterhood you experienced is
[21:20] Speaker 1: the same as what like young women experienced today.
[21:24] Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it is.
[21:25] Speaker 6: You know, I think like one of the special things
[21:27] Speaker 6: about being in a sorority is it's about the friendship,
[21:30] Speaker 6: but it's also like, and I didn't realize this probably
[21:32] Speaker 6: until much later in life, that it kind of prepares
[21:35] Speaker 6: you for life a little bit. It teaches you how
[21:37] Speaker 6: to kind of you know, not everything about the sorority
[21:40] Speaker 6: is you know, your social meeting frag GUYE or going
[21:43] Speaker 6: to parties. You know, there's other things about friendships that
[21:46] Speaker 6: you're learning because you're living with all these girls. And
[21:50] Speaker 6: you know, there's also that the whole philanthropic element about it.
[21:54] Speaker 6: Everybody has their philanthropy and every sort he does. And
[21:57] Speaker 6: that's kind of when that first became an important in
[22:00] Speaker 6: my life, and it's I've maintained that throughout my life now,
[22:03] Speaker 6: Like philanthropy is very important to me. I've been on
[22:05] Speaker 6: a lot of boards, I do a lot of functions.
[22:06] Speaker 5: I still do them.
[22:07] Speaker 6: Chalk and I are about to do one in Kansas.
[22:10] Speaker 6: I just did one for the American Association in February.
[22:13] Speaker 6: I do paning Credic Cancer. I did that in April.
[22:15] Speaker 6: So like that part of my life all started when
[22:18] Speaker 6: I was in my sorority.
[22:20] Speaker 1: That's so cool. I love that you've like stuck with that.
[22:24] Speaker 1: That's amazing.
[22:25] Speaker 5: And I don't think I would have ever known that.
[22:27] Speaker 6: Like, I didn't grow up with a lot of money,
[22:28] Speaker 6: so my parents didn't you know, do philanthropic things. We
[22:31] Speaker 6: were just paying their mortgage, you know, like it was
[22:33] Speaker 6: that wasn't part of our life. So I learned that
[22:36] Speaker 6: kind of in my sorority and then you know, it
[22:38] Speaker 6: was fortunate enough to have some resources and do now
[22:41] Speaker 6: that I can, you know, do these things that are
[22:43] Speaker 6: important in the world. And you know, it's not just
[22:45] Speaker 6: about me buying like a new purse. You know, sometimes
[22:48] Speaker 6: I think I should probably get this to charity. I
[22:49] Speaker 6: don't need another new purse.
[22:51] Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that's amazing. Now, that's cool that that that
[22:54] Speaker 1: being in a sorority, that's what sparked that for you.
[22:58] Speaker 5: That's really yeah, yeah, a little bit.
[22:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, is there any advice you would give people who
[23:02] Speaker 1: are graduating college about like maintaining relationships and friendships as
[23:11] Speaker 1: they grow up.
[23:13] Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, you never know.
[23:18] Speaker 6: Which person is going to be the one that is
[23:21] Speaker 6: going to need you or you're going to need So
[23:25] Speaker 6: I feel like you have to be very.
[23:28] Speaker 5: You know, as much as you as much as time
[23:30] Speaker 5: you have.
[23:31] Speaker 6: You know that you aren't spending like you know, with
[23:33] Speaker 6: your kids or with your spouse or whatever. Maintaining relationships
[23:36] Speaker 6: should be like the next one down, So family first, family, religion,
[23:40] Speaker 6: those kinds of things first, and the next one like
[23:42] Speaker 6: those friendships, because those are the things that will get
[23:44] Speaker 6: you through the hard times. Those are the really ones
[23:46] Speaker 6: that are going to help you find jobs, those are
[23:48] Speaker 6: the ones that may end up being your kids friends' parents.
[23:51] Speaker 6: There's so many like things in life that come from
[23:55] Speaker 6: different directions that if you maintain friendships, it'll all come
[24:00] Speaker 6: back if you if you make that effort, it will
[24:02] Speaker 6: all come back tenfold.
[24:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, oh I love that.
[24:06] Speaker 5: It's true, and I think I you know, once again,
[24:08] Speaker 5: I'm telling you this. You're so young.
[24:10] Speaker 6: I wish I had done all these things that I'm
[24:12] Speaker 6: telling you now. When I was younger, I didn't do that,
[24:14] Speaker 6: And now I am so much better about maintaining friendships
[24:17] Speaker 6: and about making sure I reach out, you know, even
[24:20] Speaker 6: people from the Bachelor, you know, you know the experience,
[24:23] Speaker 6: you spend so much, like a really important, you know,
[24:26] Speaker 6: life changing time with them, and then the show ends
[24:29] Speaker 6: and you're done, and you know, you think, oh.
[24:33] Speaker 5: My god, these people are always going to be in
[24:34] Speaker 5: my life. And then all sudden you're back home and
[24:36] Speaker 5: they're not in your life.
[24:37] Speaker 6: And you know, I zoom like with Carrie Fatman, the stylist,
[24:41] Speaker 6: probably twice a month at least.
[24:44] Speaker 1: He's so sweet.
[24:45] Speaker 5: He's the best, isn't he. I don't know if you
[24:48] Speaker 5: ever met Alicia Gupta.
[24:50] Speaker 6: I was on the ash TV show with her, and
[24:54] Speaker 6: she and I became really good friends, and I zoomed
[24:56] Speaker 6: with her every once in a while, like, and the
[24:59] Speaker 6: great thing.
[25:00] Speaker 5: About social media is you can zoom with people you know.
[25:02] Speaker 6: You can see today, we'll grab a glass of wine,
[25:05] Speaker 6: Alicia and I will and we'll sit on the pun
[25:06] Speaker 6: for three hours and like, you know, she's young, but like,
[25:10] Speaker 6: we just have this great friendship. I still keep in
[25:13] Speaker 6: touch with some of the Golden Girls, so with Kathy
[25:15] Speaker 6: and Susan and Nancy and Christina and a couple others,
[25:19] Speaker 6: you know. So I am really much better about keeping
[25:22] Speaker 6: like those relationships that are important to me. I make
[25:25] Speaker 6: sure that I reach out and keep them going.
[25:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's great advice too. Thank you so much for
[25:32] Speaker 1: coming on. It was great talking with you.
[25:34] Speaker 5: Oh my pleasure.
