## Transcript

[0:01] We're all imperfect.
[0:03] And on this podcast, I'll be chatting with a variety of interesting people who are willing to make themselves vulnerable by sharing their own struggles and imperfections.
[0:11] Then we'll discuss the invaluable takeaways we can all apply to our own imperfect lives.
[0:16] I'm Hugh Van Kylenberg from The Resilience Project.
[0:18] And I'm Ryan Shelton from My Mum.
[0:21] And I'm Josh from Hugh's Mum.
[0:23] And this is The Imperfects.
[0:30] I feel like I'm grinning from ear to ear.
[0:33] You are grinning from ear to ear.
[0:35] I've got a nervous excitement to be back.
[0:39] It's really nice, isn't it?
[0:40] It's good.
[0:41] Oh, it feels good looking at you guys with the nice light down.
[0:44] I miss this immensely.
[0:46] Yeah.
[0:47] And you don't use immensely often.
[0:50] No, I don't.
[0:51] Yeah, whatever the opposite of immensely is, you use immensely that.
[0:57] Demensly?
[1:00] Yeah, he is at Demensly.
[1:02] Welcome back to The Imperfects for another year.
[1:06] This is not an actual episode, so keep your expectations extremely low.
[1:11] I've got a couple of things to say, which actually, they should be their expectations up.
[1:16] Oh, before you do...
[1:17] as you can see on the table.
[1:19] Oh, yeah.
[1:19] Because there are lots of things we want to talk about, things that are coming up this year and some exciting changes that are happening.
[1:24] We will talk about those.
[1:25] But before we do that, I thought, just to really blow out the cobwebs, what if, you know, you can see in front of you there's a deck of vulnerability house cards.
[1:32] Yeah.
[1:33] Conveniently available online.
[1:35] to buy for yourself and play at home.
[1:36] But, you know, whatever.
[1:38] Doesn't help us.
[1:39] Yes, it does.
[1:41] So I thought maybe if you guys are up for it, you could, if you want to pick a card and just... And answer it.
[1:47] And answer it.
[1:47] Just a quick one.
[1:48] Opening with vulnerability.
[1:49] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:50] Okay.
[1:50] Just a quick one.
[1:50] That is a...
[1:52] Bold start?
[1:53] Yeah.
[1:54] A big effort offered no run-up is what I'm trying to say.
[1:57] Yeah.
[1:57] Oh, yeah.
[1:57] Well, we don't have to do it.
[1:58] From a standing start, that seems immense.
[2:01] Oh, mate, mate, mate, mate.
[2:02] If you're scared, don't worry about it.
[2:03] No, no, let's do it.
[2:04] No, if you're scared of vulnerability, you're not.
[2:06] No, let's do it.
[2:07] All right, mate.
[2:08] Okay.
[2:08] Just pick a card.
[2:09] I also have added a few new cards in this deck for this year.
[2:12] Have you actually?
[2:13] Yeah, just they're randomly in there.
[2:15] But just, yeah.
[2:16] So you might not even get it, but yeah.
[2:18] Okay.
[2:18] See what it brings up.
[2:19] First card?
[2:20] Yeah.
[2:22] Oh, what is it?
[2:26] Not the most vulnerable question I've seen, but did you get up to much over the break?
[2:31] Oh, interesting.
[2:32] Yeah, that's actually a good question because we have been on a bit of a break.
[2:35] So I got up to so much over the break, but there's a couple of things that really, I'm going to blow your mind with a couple of things.
[2:41] Wow.
[2:41] I mean, you said there's not much to get our expectations down for this episode.
[2:45] I would say get them up for two things that I've just realized over the break that have happened.
[2:49] This is exciting.
[2:49] First one.
[2:51] This is amazing.
[2:52] Wow.
[2:53] Okay.
[2:55] Do you guys remember your lunchbox from year 12?
[3:00] I don't think I had a lunchbox in year 12.
[3:03] What did you use?
[3:04] How did you get your lunch to school?
[3:06] I think I was just buying stuff at the tuck shop.
[3:08] Every day?
[3:08] I'm pretty sure.
[3:09] I'm pretty sure mum gave me five bucks a day.
[3:12] I must have had, there's no way I bought my lunch every day.
[3:14] I must have had a lunchbox, but no, I can't remember it.
[3:16] Sorry if that destroys your anecdote.
[3:17] No, that's it.
[3:18] That supports it 100%.
[3:19] Okay.
[3:20] I just realised that.
[3:21] What?
[3:21] Anyone I talk to, no one remembers their lunchbox from U12.
[3:25] No one.
[3:25] Is this the anecdote?
[3:26] Hang on.
[3:27] This is it.
[3:28] So just remember you've got everyone's expectations to go very high.
[3:31] Remember that?
[3:31] Think of that.
[3:32] This is amazing.
[3:33] Yeah.
[3:34] No one remembers that.
[3:35] Okay, I feel like I need another.
[3:36] Bridge, do you remember your lunchbox from U12?
[3:39] No.
[3:40] I think it was a plastic bag.
[3:41] It's a plastic bag.
[3:42] Okay.
[3:42] Yeah, I think a lot of people would just be using plastic bags probably.
[3:44] Okay.
[3:45] Paper bag.
[3:46] You're 11.
[3:52] No one remembers their lunchbox.
[3:53] I had a lunchbox.
[3:55] Can't wait to see where this is going.
[3:57] Is this going somewhere?
[3:58] This is it.
[3:59] It just amazes me that no one, every day, for a whole year, we had a lunchbox, pretty much as adults.
[4:05] We had a lunchbox at school.
[4:06] Adults.
[4:08] 18.
[4:09] 17 to 18.
[4:09] And no one remembers their lunchbox.
[4:11] There will be no one listening here who goes, well, I remember my lunchbox.
[4:14] So that's the first one.
[4:16] Okay.
[4:17] Yeah, great.
[4:17] All right, you just absolutely hit that out of the park.
[4:19] The second one.
[4:23] I'm really glad we do this episode, just to really pump people up for a year to come.
[4:26] Well, I ran it by a penny and I said, and she went, no, I don't, that's amazing.
[4:29] It is amazing.
[4:30] Oh, okay.
[4:30] And that was the end of the discussion.
[4:32] I should have thought about it more.
[4:33] And you were like, Jesus will make good content.
[4:34] I did.
[4:35] That's what I thought.
[4:35] Yeah.
[4:36] And I'm now questioning that.
[4:37] But anyway, it's out there.
[4:38] Okay, great.
[4:38] No, it's good.
[4:39] I don't want to let that out at all.
[4:40] Thing to think about.
[4:42] Just think about it.
[4:42] Do you remember your lunchbox?
[4:43] If you do, let me know because I'd be, well, you're lying.
[4:47] Yeah.
[4:48] Oh, great.
[4:49] Okay.
[4:49] So everyone that messages you, you're an instant liar.
[4:52] I just know no one's going to remember.
[4:53] No.
[4:53] In fact, if you don't remember, just send me a message to go, I don't remember it.
[4:56] And I'll go, yeah, me neither.
[4:58] Okay, that's going to be a fun correspondence you're about to have.
[5:05] Yeah, no, definitely get in touch.
[5:10] If you can't remember your lunchbox, get in touch, and I'll say me neither.
[5:18] Wow, good engagement with the listeners, Hugh.
[5:22] Second one.
[5:23] Yeah, second one.
[5:24] Great.
[5:24] Are we still keeping expectations as high?
[5:26] This is better.
[5:27] This is better.
[5:28] Huge.
[5:30] So, I invented something over the holidays.
[5:32] Yeah.
[5:33] A new sleeping position.
[5:34] And I want everyone to know about it.
[5:36] It's unbelievable.
[5:37] Okay, I am interested in this.
[5:38] Okay, because I've just noticed recently in the last year or so, I've been lying in bed going, I can't get comfortable.
[5:45] I'm like, how can I...
[5:46] I've been doing this every night in my entire life and I still can't find a comfortable position.
[5:49] So, I really went to work these holidays on finding a comfortable position and I've got
[5:53] weird yeah i don't know yeah it's weird but it works yeah okay can i show you guys yes please can i uh can you do it on the table i'll do it on the table we've got a wide shot here okay so i'll sort of yell so i can be heard still i'll use these pillows just it's like i would love people to try this and also get in touch if it works for you yeah so i'll move these cards
[6:16] Okay, so you're climbing up onto the table now.
[6:20] You're on all fours at this point.
[6:23] And you...
[6:24] So what you do is... Yeah.
[6:27] You know how you have to choose between lying on your tummy or your side?
[6:30] It's a bit of both.
[6:32] So your tummy's on its tummy and your head is on the side.
[6:37] So one leg straight like this, other leg goes right out like this.
[6:41] Okay.
[6:42] Now, this is the bit that people won't see coming.
[6:44] You...
[6:46] Because they would have seen this going.
[6:49] Because, you know, everyone's probably listening going like, they've had two months to prep for this.
[6:54] Two months to get content ready for the return episode, which always has to be big.
[6:59] So this is a bit that won't be coming.
[7:01] You hug yourself like this.
[7:04] Hold yourself.
[7:06] Leg out to the side.
[7:06] That leg is straight.
[7:08] And you just do that.
[7:10] So you get your fist under the pillow.
[7:11] That's the important part.
[7:12] Your fist is under the pillow.
[7:14] In that holding your head.
[7:15] So you... Oh, yeah.
[7:16] Like that.
[7:17] And you'll sleep a whole night like that.
[7:19] I will not...
[7:20] I might move a little bit, but not too much.
[7:23] Like this.
[7:24] Okay.
[7:26] Okay, so... And then what happens?
[7:29] In the story.
[7:30] That's it.
[7:30] I just wanted to share that.
[7:31] No, that is... You know what I think is maybe slightly remarkable?
[7:35] Might be good if you jump back in your chair.
[7:36] Oh, yeah.
[7:36] Wait, Bridget, do you want to get a shot from above?
[7:38] I think I had a single shot from above.
[7:39] No, that'll actually make a really big difference.
[7:43] Hug yourself.
[7:44] Fist on your ear pretty much through the pillow like that.
[7:46] Yeah.
[7:46] There we go.
[7:47] That's the position you want to get into.
[7:49] I think I already do this.
[7:51] What?
[7:52] This exact position?
[7:53] Except I have a flat hand instead of a fist.
[7:55] Wow.
[7:56] What an app.
[7:56] What?
[8:00] I just feel like, you know how we say like in mental health, you're like, well, if it helps one person, it's been worthwhile.
[8:05] That's how I feel about this.
[8:06] That's like, because if I heard this episode a year ago, it would change my life.
[8:11] Okay.
[8:12] New sleeping position.
[8:13] Okay.
[8:13] Well, I think, I mean, I'm definitely going to try it.
[8:15] Hug yourself one leg out, one leg straight.
[8:18] I really think I already do that.
[8:19] Well, that's unbelievable.
[8:20] That is amazing.
[8:21] I mean, you are brothers, so it's not that crazy, but.
[8:24] Have we stumbled across something here?
[8:25] Do brothers sleep in the same position and not know it?
[8:27] Well, in this case, yes.
[8:30] We probably need some more evidence before we publish our thesis.
[8:35] Okay, wow.
[8:38] So that's my answer to the question.
[8:41] Did you get up too much over the break?
[8:43] Yeah, I did.
[8:46] You thought about the lunchbox you can't remember and you found the new sleeping position.
[8:49] That's a summer.
[8:49] It's productive.
[8:50] It's been productive.
[8:51] Wow.
[8:51] Great.
[8:51] All right.
[8:52] Josh, do you want to have a random pick up of your card?
[8:56] Have you discovered any more sleeping positions?
[8:58] How about you, Josh?
[8:59] Did you do much on the summer?
[9:00] Thank you.
[9:02] That's so specific.
[9:05] It's probably a bit much for me to get up and display the same sleeping position.
[9:11] I had a, yeah, I did.
[9:16] I hit my elbow on a kid's water slide.
[9:18] Is this your cut here?
[9:20] No, that's from burning myself on the oven.
[9:22] This is on the tip of my elbow.
[9:25] And it ended up getting a golden staff infection.
[9:29] And I was in a really bad way.
[9:31] Is a golden staff a dog?
[9:32] That's a golden retriever or a staffy, you're thinking?
[9:34] Oh, okay.
[9:35] Yeah.
[9:35] That's a golden retriever, staffy mix.
[9:37] Okay.
[9:37] But it's nothing to do with that.
[9:39] Nothing to do with dogs.
[9:40] So what's golden staff?
[9:41] It's an infection, like a bacterial infection.
[9:43] I think it's quite serious in hospitals.
[9:45] Oh, it's right.
[9:46] It's quite a...
[9:47] I've never had an infection like that before, and it knocked me out for about three weeks.
[9:51] I was sort of sleeping in the middle of the day for two to three hours.
[9:53] I was such a grump and a really crap person to be around.
[9:59] Yeah, and then I got an antibiotics and got over it.
[10:01] But it was- The photos that you sent me, the videos you sent me are amongst the more horrific things I've seen in my life.
[10:07] This is probably something we'll cut out because it's so disgusting.
[10:11] But I, at one point I like wanted to, I took the bandage off my arm and wanted to see if there was like any pus in it.
[10:19] And I pressed it pretty lightly.
[10:21] Luckily I was in the shower.
[10:23] Wow.
[10:24] Oh, be careful, LaBridge.
[10:25] She doesn't like this stuff.
[10:27] Yeah.
[10:28] Shall I stop?
[10:28] Bridge, just don't listen.
[10:30] Yeah, don't listen to this ever.
[10:31] I mean, considering she nearly spewed when I had rice stuck up my nose, this is going to be something else.
[10:37] Imagine like a kid's carton of milk with one of those push straws in it that you push in and then squeeze that.
[10:46] Oh, my God.
[10:46] It was a constant stream that went maybe 40 centimetres across the shower.
[10:52] That is the worst thing that's ever been said on this podcast.
[10:57] I dare say any podcast.
[10:59] I'm talking true crime.
[11:04] It was horrific.
[11:05] Oh my goodness.
[11:06] And it was, yeah, very painful.
[11:08] But it's all good, all better now.
[11:10] Great.
[11:10] I'm so glad.
[11:10] We'll stick with videos on Instagram.
[11:11] Yeah, definitely.
[11:14] Wow.
[11:15] Okay.
[11:16] Well, that sounds like a tough summer.
[11:17] I also had a family holiday, which was lovely.
[11:20] And lunchbox, remember that?
[11:21] No.
[11:24] No.
[11:24] Plastic bag, I think.
[11:26] Okay.
[11:26] All right.
[11:27] Well, seeing you guys have done a vulnerability house card, I may as well.
[11:30] They're pretty vulnerable.
[11:31] Beware.
[11:31] I know.
[11:32] I'll just see what's there.
[11:33] See what I got.
[11:34] Oh, community chest.
[11:37] Sorry.
[11:38] That's all right.
[11:39] I don't know how that works.
[11:40] So let's just leave it.
[11:41] Do you want to answer any of those questions?
[11:45] Over the summer, I actually did a road trip.
[11:47] Jam and I, we hired a camper van actually.
[11:50] Oh, cool.
[11:51] And did a road trip up the east coast of Australia.
[11:55] Very nice.
[11:55] Stopping in like campsites and seeing friends.
[11:58] And camper van living, I really liked.
[12:02] Did you love the gadgets?
[12:04] Yeah.
[12:05] There weren't heaps of gadgets.
[12:08] Rented it off a lovely couple, Alex and Lucy, pretty sure their names are.
[12:14] Not that that matters to anyone else except for the three of us.
[12:17] But yeah, incredible caravan, camper van.
[12:21] But yeah, sleeping, cooking and just having everything in a little van.
[12:25] You pull up to a campsite and it was raining a couple of times.
[12:27] So you pull up.
[12:28] cook a bit of pasta and then just like make the bed and just sleep and then wake up and the beach is right there.
[12:34] Yeah.
[12:34] That surprised me a bit that you loved it because it does involve a level of discomfort.
[12:38] Yeah, a lot of discomfort.
[12:39] So there were some tough times.
[12:40] There were definitely some tough times.
[12:41] Yeah, I don't love discomfort much as Jam is learning more and more and learned a lot over January when we were traveling.
[12:51] But it was really great.
[12:53] I loved it and will definitely do it again.
[12:56] So yeah, that's awesome.
[12:57] Yeah, that's my update.
[12:59] But I'm very, very excited to be back.
[13:01] Yeah, I was just going to say, should we talk about the show at all?
[13:05] Is the purpose of this episode talking about what we're doing this year or more of an update on what we've been doing?
[13:08] A bit of both.
[13:09] Yeah.
[13:11] We've always just, we've done a, we do a podcast, right?
[13:13] We do a podcast.
[13:14] You can only listen to these episodes on whatever podcast app you use.
[13:20] But this year, like many other podcasts do, you'll also be able to, if you want, watch the full episodes on YouTube.
[13:28] So we'll be from the first episode next week.
[13:31] you'll be able to watch all the episodes and then like gradually be uploading the old ones whenever we can.
[13:37] I reckon we've got about 80 of the 100 episodes or something we've filmed and we can get up to YouTube standards.
[13:44] And not just film, but film like you have been responsible for it and you are a filming man.
[13:50] You're a filming man.
[13:51] Thanks.
[13:51] A genius of a filming man.
[13:53] Yeah.
[13:53] Very kind.
[13:54] So essentially the clips, if you've seen clips on Instagram, they're just little clips from the entire episode.
[13:59] So yeah.
[14:00] I mean, it's like we did with Mrs. Claus and Santa Claus.
[14:03] We put those full episodes on YouTube, which you can still watch.
[14:06] But yeah, every single episode will be available to watch if you want to watch them.
[14:12] And I've got to say, I know it's weird because I don't want to like oversell, but going back and watching some interviews that I've only heard and I've not really looked at, it's unbelievable to see some of these like moments that I found really emotional at the time just listening to, to actually see the guests and see our, it's a different, I think it's a pretty different and awesome experience.
[14:32] Yeah.
[14:33] Yeah.
[14:33] So that'll be, that's exciting.
[14:37] And then the other thing, I'm having a blank.
[14:39] Well, we've got a new format.
[14:41] Oh, God.
[14:41] For a new episode.
[14:42] New episode.
[14:43] Which is?
[14:44] You came up with the name, I think you should say.
[14:46] Yeah.
[14:46] Well, so again, this is not like a revolutionary thing for a podcast to do, but we thought we got the idea from a few other podcasts.
[14:54] And so each week, as well as our normal Monday episodes, on every Thursday, there will be a new format released.
[15:02] So it will be two episodes per week, but the second episode is a much shorter sort of 10 to 20-minute episode
[15:09] flashback moment from an old episode where we'll be finding like all these old episodes, moments from old episodes that we think might be helpful or interesting to reshare.
[15:19] And are kind of lost in the archives because there's a hundred and there'd be a few hundred hours of podcasts.
[15:24] Yep.
[15:25] And it's really easy to like lose valuable stuff in there.
[15:28] Yep.
[15:28] And so we're calling it the Imperf Fix, like F-I-X, the Imperf Fix.
[15:34] Like you're getting your fix.
[15:35] You're getting your fix of the Imperfects.
[15:37] Yep.
[15:39] So,
[15:40] So that'll be Thursdays.
[15:41] And what I think it could be really helpful for is if you're a new listener to the show, you've only just discovered it from a friend or something.
[15:47] And there's all these, you know, like episodes in the past, you might hear a little clip from an episode from like years ago and think, oh, I'd like to hear the full episode of that.
[15:55] So it's like a little, little taster, little hors d'oeuvre of the podcast.
[16:00] You might go like, hmm, I like that little slider.
[16:02] I might have a full burger.
[16:03] Yeah.
[16:05] Does that ever happen?
[16:06] Someone will slide her and go, actually, I'll get a big one.
[16:08] No, because I think people understand the concept of burgers.
[16:10] So it's not like, oh, I like the meat between the bun.
[16:13] Do they do it bigger?
[16:14] Yeah.
[16:17] So yeah, so that's some new interesting things to look out for.
[16:21] Mondays and Thursdays are your days.
[16:23] Yeah, I mean, if you just want to keep listening Mondays, you can just do that.
[16:25] If you want more, you can get Thursdays.
[16:27] If you want to watch it, you can look at YouTube.
[16:29] And then, of course, there'll be a 24-hour live stream in Hugh's bedroom.
[16:31] But other than that, it's all the same.
[16:35] A lot of me lying in my sleeping position.
[16:37] Yeah.
[16:38] And you don't want to miss it.
[16:39] That might be worth watching.
[16:40] Yeah.
[16:41] And also seeing you ask Penny if she can remember a lunchbox from Year 12.
[16:44] Yeah.
[16:45] So much happening.
[16:47] I hope that is available because that was a compelling moment when she realised she didn't need to die and I based that whole segment off to people.
[16:56] Segment.
[16:58] It's always one question.
[17:00] Did you say you had a plastic bag?
[17:05] I think I had a plastic bag.
[17:07] That's pretty common, I'd say.
[17:08] Plastic bags?
[17:10] That's not practical.
[17:12] Well, it depends what you're eating.
[17:13] If you're having just soup, then yeah.
[17:15] Bad.
[17:18] Something strikes me as like maybe it wasn't cool to have a lunchbox in year 12.
[17:21] Yeah, it doesn't feel like it would have been.
[17:23] Chucked it up in your bag.
[17:24] Got it out.
[17:24] It's like whatever.
[17:25] Yeah, I don't care about eating.
[17:26] Carrying it in a plastic bag.
[17:27] I definitely had a lunchbox with compartments and everything.
[17:30] So you do remember?
[17:31] Oh, okay.
[17:32] I just know.
[17:33] Hang on.
[17:34] So you do remember it.
[17:35] Josh thought you had you there.
[17:36] So you do remember it.
[17:39] Okay, well, I think that's all the updates.
[17:43] Thank you for sticking with us.
[17:44] The live show.
[17:45] The live show.
[17:45] The live show.
[17:46] It's happening again.
[17:46] Encore, encore.
[17:48] No one was screaming, but we're doing an encore tour.
[17:52] We have shows in Gold Coast, Brisbane, Newcastle, Perth, Melbourne.
[17:58] Correct.
[18:00] It is...
[18:02] I'd say Melbourne and Brisbane are pretty much sold out.
[18:05] I'll throw this in if people aren't on the fence.
[18:08] I will show people my sleeping position on stage.
[18:12] Oh, wow.
[18:13] We have to put some more shows on.
[18:15] The demand's going to be insane.
[18:17] So be it.
[18:18] So be it.
[18:19] Wow.
[18:19] He's putting his foot down this year.
[18:22] Yeah.
[18:22] We should actually contact the TV networks and see if there's a spinoff show in that.
[18:27] sleeping it'd be like the new big brother i play my sleepwalking is so off the charts which i've never talked about before yeah you haven't have you but my god that it would be a tv show my sleepwalking is i woke up the other day what would the tv show be
[18:45] Would it be you, like live documentary footage?
[18:47] I thought you were asking for a name.
[18:49] Could be, yeah.
[18:49] A name would be great.
[18:50] Did you come up with one?
[18:51] No, I was thinking, who's Hugh?
[18:53] I don't know why.
[18:54] Okay, yeah.
[18:55] It's a fair question.
[18:57] Who the fuck is this guy?
[19:00] Anyway, it would be just a camera in our house and it would be me doing weird stuff.
[19:05] I woke up the other day...
[19:07] I woke up the other day in our lounge room with my doona folded into, you know, you get a piece of paper, you fold it as many times as you possibly can.
[19:17] It's impossible.
[19:18] Yeah.
[19:19] I had done that with a doona.
[19:19] It was tucked under my arm.
[19:21] Oh, yes.
[19:21] Meticulously folded.
[19:22] And I was just standing there staring at the wall.
[19:25] I just woke up.
[19:26] I was like, oh, what am I doing here?
[19:27] Oh, you did this in your sleep?
[19:28] Yeah.
[19:29] The doona that you were sleeping under?
[19:30] Yeah.
[19:31] Just taking it downstairs, folded it meticulously.
[19:33] I don't know how long I'm going to be standing there for.
[19:34] I do it all the time.
[19:36] Anyway.
[19:37] Wow.
[19:38] Unbelievable.
[19:39] I will do – once I sent mum a text message and mum called me in the morning and said, are you okay?
[19:45] No, she messaged me in the morning.
[19:46] I woke up to message mum and it said – the message from mum said, I'm guessing this wasn't for me.
[19:51] I hope you're okay.
[19:52] I was like, oh my God, what have I done?
[19:53] The message I wrote to mum was at 3.30 in the morning I wrote it.
[19:57] I got up and got my phone, texted mum and I wrote, please stop doing that to me.
[20:06] I mean, if you're an anxious thinker or an overthinker, the amount you could read into getting that message, what could you have meant?
[20:16] When I'm sleepwalking, there's no logic or no.
[20:20] I have done the weirdest stuff.
[20:21] We will do a whole episode on the stuff I've done and I promise it will be thrilling.
[20:25] God, you're throwing some big calls out there today.
[20:28] If it's as good as the lunchbox and sleep gear, I'm looking forward to it.
[20:32] Please come to our live show.
[20:33] We would love to see you there.
[20:34] We love doing it.
[20:35] We're very proud of it and we have so much.
[20:36] Yeah, it's just a great experience we have with our audience every single time.
[20:40] So it's nothing like the podcast, but you will hopefully leave the show feeling all the same things you feel when you listen to our podcast.
[20:46] You'll feel moved.
[20:46] You'll learn stuff hopefully and you'll laugh along the way.
[20:51] And tickets for that are at livenation.com.au.
[20:55] And the link will be in the show notes.
[20:57] Great.
[20:58] Oh, actually, one more thing, and we don't often do this, but I want to revisit a moment from a show we had at the end of last year.
[21:05] It was when we had Steve Hooker on.
[21:06] It was about how I had been training with Steve Hooker and a couple of other guys for this Zatapek 4x400 national record attempt, which we missed by 0.9 of a second.
[21:16] The big one.
[21:17] The race that stopped a nation.
[21:20] Stopped a few people in Albert Park in Melbourne.
[21:23] And I talked about how it had just been so – it was year-defining for me just with a group of people training towards a big event and it was one of the highlights of my life.
[21:34] It was just so amazing because it just –
[21:37] it encouraged so many healthy choices throughout the year for me around not drinking alcohol and eating well and prioritizing sleep, all that kind of stuff.
[21:44] It was just great.
[21:45] And the connection we got from it was huge.
[21:46] And so I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has responded to that.
[21:51] It's had an amazing response.
[21:54] Because I sort of put the challenge out there to people to maybe think about for 2024, what's a year defining event that you could put your name down for now?
[22:02] It might be six months time, could be a year's time, could be less than that.
[22:05] But
[22:06] and you set your sights on it this year and you find a group of people you're going to do that with so you can connect with them and then go on the same journey that I went on.
[22:15] I was in Lawn on the Great Ocean Road over the break and a lady came up to me and she said,
[22:21] Just want to let you know my friends and I have put our name down for the Great Ocean Road Marathon.
[22:26] And she said, I haven't really run much in my life before, but me and my friends have just decided – none of us have really decided to just go for it.
[22:33] And we've been running every second day.
[22:34] She said we've been doing it for a month and she said it's already life-changing.
[22:37] And so many people have shared similar stories and I just –
[22:41] I love it and I just want to say to everyone who has taken it up, good on you and I wish you well this year and I love hearing the stories.
[22:47] So please feel free to get in touch.
[22:49] What would be one bit of it?
[22:49] I know you're not a long distance runner, but if someone was like, like if I was to say like, okay, I'm going to do a marathon at the end of the year, if you could give one bit of advice,
[22:58] what would be the one bit of advice in like preparing for that?
[23:04] Again, like my longest distance I run in training is 300 meters.
[23:07] So I'm probably not the best person I run in training, but I do think- So don't sprint.
[23:12] Don't do it.
[23:14] I would say- Cadence?
[23:17] Cadence.
[23:17] Stride length and cadence.
[23:19] Great word.
[23:19] I mean, it's a good word.
[23:21] It wouldn't be the first thing of advice.
[23:22] I'd have that.
[23:23] Definitely have some cadence.
[23:24] But I would say gradually increase your load.
[23:29] And I think the injury is... How much should you carry?
[23:34] By the end of the year, you want to be carrying like 20 to 30 kilos during that marathon.
[23:40] I would say get a coach.
[23:41] There are plenty of online coaches or people out there who can help you structure a program.
[23:46] And do strength work as well because you can't just run.
[23:50] You need to – there are exercises you need to do because injury is just devastating.
[23:54] But it can be avoided in the most part.
[23:56] Anyway.
[23:56] Great.
[23:57] And cadence.
[23:58] And cadence.
[23:58] Cadence.
[23:59] Would you get a cadence coach?
[24:00] It's not a separate coach.
[24:02] Coach could work on your cadence.
[24:03] Yeah, coach could work on your cadence.
[24:04] Yeah.
[24:04] But you don't need a cadence coach.
[24:06] I don't think you need a cadence coach.
[24:07] Nah, it's overkill.
[24:10] But thank you, everyone who's got a touch.
[24:12] Well, that's all for today.
[24:14] Great to see you guys.
[24:15] Very, very excited about, like genuinely, some of the guests we've got now.
[24:19] If you had to have said to us year one or two that we were going to get some of these people.
[24:24] We've done the interviews and I still can't believe it.
[24:26] Yeah.
[24:26] Yeah.
[24:26] It's pretty.
[24:27] Yeah.
[24:28] I agree.
[24:28] Yep.
[24:29] Just say no more.
[24:30] Yep.
[24:30] Leave them hanging.
[24:31] I want to just blurt out all the names and just, I'm so excited, but we won't.
[24:35] No, it's more strategic if we don't tell them.
[24:37] And they'll have to tune in to see.
[24:38] It's fantasy.
[24:39] Yeah.
[24:40] Good.
[24:40] That's how you get them here.
[24:41] You know?
[24:41] That's how we trick them into listening.
[24:43] It's easy.
[24:43] All right, guys.
[24:46] Well, see you next week.
[24:46] See you next week.
[24:47] Bye.
