What's hiding in your wallet right now? Because apparently that can make or break a first date. Joel and Simone were having an amazing night until she noticed something while he was paying. His reasoning makes perfect sense to HIM... but Simone started wondering if there was more to the story. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

[0:00] Speaker 1: It's Marcus in the morning. We are doing second date update.
[0:02] Speaker 1: Let's just bring our guy Joel on and give him
[0:04] Speaker 1: some assistance.
[0:05] Speaker 2: Joel, are you there? Hey, yeah. Welcome, brother.
[0:08] Speaker 3: How are you? Good.
[0:09] Speaker 2: You doing okay? Yeah. Yeah.
[0:11] Speaker 4: Hanging in there.
[0:11] Speaker 2: Okay. So you guys met up in Walnut Creek. Tell
[0:15] Speaker 2: me about your date with Simone.
[0:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, the day was great. We went out
[0:22] Speaker 3: for drinks, and we were getting along so well that
[0:25] Speaker 3: we decided to extend it and went into dinner, which
[0:30] Speaker 3: was a good sign, right?
[0:31] Speaker 2: No awkwardness.
[0:32] Speaker 3: The conversation was easy. We were laughing. And Simone even
[0:38] Speaker 3: mentioned a couple of places that we should check out
[0:40] Speaker 3: next time we went out.
[0:42] Speaker 2: Interesting. Was there a kiss at the end or anything?
[0:45] Speaker 3: No, no kiss. We hugged goodbye. She said she had
[0:48] Speaker 3: a great time. And then, you know, nothing. I texted
[0:52] Speaker 3: her the next day.
[0:52] Speaker 2: No response. I was going to ask you if you
[0:54] Speaker 2: reached out.
[0:55] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[0:55] Speaker 2: Okay.
[0:56] Speaker 1: We're going to have Joel go ahead and mute his phone.
[0:59] Speaker 1: And then we're going to call Simone and try to
[1:01] Speaker 1: get some answers. Joel, you'll be listening in.
[1:02] Speaker 2: Here we go.
[1:03] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:03] Speaker 2: Go ahead and mute.
[1:13] Speaker 4: Hello.
[1:14] Speaker 2: Hi, I'm looking for Simone, please.
[1:16] Speaker 4: This is Simone.
[1:17] Speaker 2: Simone, it's Marcus calling from Star 101.3.
[1:19] Speaker 4: This is second date update, right? Yes.
[1:24] Speaker 2: Yes, it is. Welcome. You're on.
[1:27] Speaker 4: Oh, my goodness. Is Joel listening?
[1:31] Speaker 2: I don't know, Joel. Are you listening?
[1:32] Speaker 3: I am, real intently.
[1:36] Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
[1:36] Speaker 5: Okay.
[1:36] Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
[1:37] Speaker 2: Sweet. Easy.
[1:42] Speaker 5: So, okay. The conclusion is, Simone, that you ghosted. So
[1:47] Speaker 5: what happened? Because Joel is completely in the dark, so
[1:50] Speaker 5: he says. How was the date for you?
[1:53] Speaker 4: Yeah, I did really like him. Okay. I thought the
[1:59] Speaker 4: date was going great.
[2:01] Speaker 2: Sweet.
[2:02] Speaker 4: And then we got the check, and Joel pulled out
[2:09] Speaker 4: his wallet to pay for And there was this like crazy,
[2:14] Speaker 4: ridiculous amount of cash inside his wallet.
[2:18] Speaker 2: Define crazy.
[2:20] Speaker 4: No, like a lot, like not like a couple hundred dollars,
[2:23] Speaker 4: like a stack of cash.
[2:26] Speaker 3: Okay.
[2:27] Speaker 4: So I was like, why are you carrying all that cash?
[2:32] Speaker 4: And he told me it was emergency cash.
[2:37] Speaker 2: How much are we talking about here?
[2:39] Speaker 4: I mean, it's like.
[2:42] Speaker 3: $ 3, 000. I mean, it's not always exactly $ 3, 000.
[2:49] Speaker 4: I don't think it matters if it was exactly $ 3, 000.
[2:54] Speaker 3: My dad always taught me to never leave home without
[2:56] Speaker 3: enough cash to get myself out of a bad situation.
[2:58] Speaker 3: So I've always got some cash for me to make
[3:02] Speaker 3: sure that doesn't happen.
[3:03] Speaker 2: What situation warrants like three grand?
[3:07] Speaker 3: I mean, that's the thing, right? You never know what
[3:09] Speaker 3: kind of situation you're going to be in until you
[3:11] Speaker 3: need it.
[3:11] Speaker 2: Okay.
[3:13] Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. It left me the rest of
[3:16] Speaker 4: the date wondering if he was just super prepared, you know, likes.
[3:20] Speaker 2: To have things... I don't know, like.
[3:23] Speaker 4: Just in case, ready for whatever comes or if he
[3:27] Speaker 4: was involved in, I don't know, like an organized crime maybe?
[3:31] Speaker 3: No, it's emergency money, right?
[3:33] Speaker 4: Yeah, but like what kind of emergency?
[3:37] Speaker 3: Any kind of emergency, you know, like if I needed
[3:39] Speaker 3: car trouble, if I needed a hotel last minute for
[3:41] Speaker 3: some second, got a plane ticket if I had to
[3:44] Speaker 3: fly home or, you know, like if I got stranded somewhere,
[3:48] Speaker 3: you know, any kind of emergency you might find yourself in. Right.
[3:52] Speaker 4: Like maybe bail or something.
[3:53] Speaker 3: I mean, I guess potentially.
[3:57] Speaker 2: Okay.
[3:59] Speaker 4: I don't know. I just think like carrying like $ 3, 000
[4:03] Speaker 4: anywhere and everywhere is just kind of weird to me.
[4:07] Speaker 3: Look, it's no different than having an emergency fund in
[4:10] Speaker 3: your bank. Right. I just have mine on me. Oh no.
[4:13] Speaker 4: Like if it's in the bank, it's in a bank
[4:16] Speaker 4: and yours is just sitting in your wallet next to
[4:18] Speaker 4: your Costco card.
[4:19] Speaker 2: Why can't you just use your credit card?
[4:21] Speaker 3: Some places don't take cards. Sometimes you just need cash
[4:23] Speaker 3: in an emergency. I don't see what the problem is.
[4:28] Speaker 3: I've never heard of someone complaining that a guy has
[4:31] Speaker 3: too much money.
[4:32] Speaker 1: Okay, so Simone, is this like an automatic no second
[4:36] Speaker 1: date for you?
[4:36] Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
[4:37] Speaker 4: It's just too weird for me, and I don't feel
[4:40] Speaker 4: like that's a very good explanation.
[4:42] Speaker 3: I mean... Okay, but, you know, when the grid goes
[4:46] Speaker 3: down and there's no Wi-Fi and no credit card readers
[4:50] Speaker 3: or anything, don't call me. Yeah, great.
[4:52] Speaker 4: No problem. Don't worry about that. I will not call you.
[4:55] Speaker 3: Right.
[4:55] Speaker 2: Okay.
[4:56] Speaker 3: Hang on.
[4:57] Speaker 2: Hang on.
[4:58] Speaker 1: How do you not have back issues? So much cash
[5:01] Speaker 1: in your wallet. Or keep it in your sock like ludicrous.
[5:06] Speaker 1: Be a regular, be an adult. Star 101.3.
[5:10] Speaker 2: Second date update.
