The famous jump was actually performed by McQueen's friend and stunt double Bud Ekins, though McQueen did much of the rest of the riding himself. Luke, Westy, and Matt continue the story, as the escape unfolds and unravels. We dig into the crew behind the film — the screenplay drawn from the true account, Elmer Bernstein's rousing march of a score, and the stunt work behind the chase — before breaking down the finale, the reception, and the film's enduring status as a bank-holiday staple. Plus the hosts' final verdict and scores. Part 1 is the build to the breakout — Sturges, the cast, the first half. Worth starting there.
