[0:21] Speaker 1: reviewing every movie from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
[0:25] Speaker 1: I'm Jay Skeets on deck of the HMS Classic Factory,
[0:29] Speaker 1: and alongside me, as always, he's a swashbuckler to his core,
[0:32] Speaker 1: tasmellisz A next to him, he plunders more than he pillages.
[0:39] Speaker 1: It's Trey Herbie and last but not least, the captain
[0:45] Speaker 1: of this podcast ship, super producer JD Yoho Ho. Okay,
[0:50] Speaker 1: why not he took huzza, he took an iris.
[0:54] Speaker 2: You're a yelloo? Yeah, I can't go anywhere else.
[0:56] Speaker 1: That's all right. Over the next five weeks here, every Friday,
[0:59] Speaker 1: we are going to tackle every Pirates of the Caribbean film.
[1:03] Speaker 1: We did this back in the day with the Fast
[1:05] Speaker 1: and Furious franchise. Last summer we talked dinosaurs for months
[1:10] Speaker 1: as we reviewed every Jurassic Park film. So now we're
[1:14] Speaker 1: on the open waters here Pirates of the Caribbean. If
[1:17] Speaker 1: you're a fan of this type of content, this summer content,
[1:19] Speaker 1: hit the like button, subscribe, share the show. Podcast listeners
[1:23] Speaker 1: five star ratings and reviews.
[1:25] Speaker 3: What a crossover Pirates of the Caribbean and No Dunks fans.
[1:29] Speaker 3: I didn't know that they.
[1:30] Speaker 2: Would they would vote Pirates.
[1:32] Speaker 1: Of the Caribbean in the end was the summer movie poll.
[1:36] Speaker 1: I thought it would be Indiana Jones. That was tk's
[1:39] Speaker 1: I was going to be between Pirates and Indiana Jones.
[1:42] Speaker 1: I didn't think Superman had a chance. I didn't think
[1:44] Speaker 1: my Transformers had much of a chance. Indiana Jones got
[1:47] Speaker 1: off to a hot start, yep, and then the Pirate
[1:49] Speaker 1: fans came out.
[1:50] Speaker 3: They said, yeah, it's a hit after hit after hit. Stop,
[1:55] Speaker 3: there's gonna be three hits that we're going to go through.
[1:58] Speaker 3: Ware then four and five are going to slow down
[2:00] Speaker 3: big time.
[2:01] Speaker 1: This movie was a hit. Damn right, these are massive successes. Oh,
[2:06] Speaker 1: they absolutely are. Okay, let me give you just the
[2:09] Speaker 1: facts here of Pirates of the Caribbean. The Curse of
[2:11] Speaker 1: the Black Pearl. That's the first one of this franchise
[2:15] Speaker 1: released in the summer of two thousand and three, so
[2:18] Speaker 1: we're talking nearly twenty five years ago at this point.
[2:21] Speaker 1: Wild damn budget one hundred and forty million, which was
[2:25] Speaker 1: decent amount of change back then. Box office. Despite low expectations.
[2:30] Speaker 1: Everyone was like, I don't know, maybe this will do Okay.
[2:34] Speaker 1: The film, as TK said, a massive box office success.
[2:38] Speaker 1: It grossed six hundred and fifty four point three million worldwide,
[2:42] Speaker 1: making it the fourth highest grossing film of two thousand
[2:46] Speaker 1: and three. Little trivia question, can you name some of
[2:49] Speaker 1: the other movies that outdid it in three? There's another
[2:52] Speaker 1: one that's.
[2:53] Speaker 4: A part of a charge Wars Probably no, No matrix Matrix.
[2:57] Speaker 1: Reloaded on the list. Yeah, big huge trilogy series in
[3:05] Speaker 1: the fantasy world, The Return of the King and then
[3:10] Speaker 1: the second one animated movie, one of the best animated
[3:13] Speaker 1: movies of all nice yeah, ol Man, Nice poul So
[3:16] Speaker 1: then people just want to be in.
[3:18] Speaker 2: The water Master and Commander in the same year.
[3:22] Speaker 1: Crazy Kevin Costner too early with water Work. Yeah yeah, okay,
[3:26] Speaker 1: So the skinny for this movie, an intrepid Blacksmith teams
[3:29] Speaker 1: up with an eccentric pirate captain to save his love
[3:33] Speaker 1: from an undead pirate crew. Runtime two hours and twenty
[3:37] Speaker 1: three minutes AKA a little too long, but you know,
[3:41] Speaker 1: entertaining parts, but I think overall it could have been
[3:43] Speaker 1: a little shorter.
[3:45] Speaker 2: Disagree.
[3:46] Speaker 1: I think you could cut twenty minutes easily from this
[3:48] Speaker 1: movie but anyway. Stars Johnny Depp, Jeffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom,
[3:51] Speaker 1: Kira Knightley, Jonathan Price. Let's show some love to Jonathan Price,
[3:56] Speaker 1: who a lot of people probably know is the high
[3:58] Speaker 1: Sparrow from Game of Thrones, but here he's the governor.
[4:02] Speaker 1: What's his real name? He looks his name is weather Be.
[4:06] Speaker 4: In my notes, I switched between calling him governor and daddy.
[4:12] Speaker 4: I know his real name was weather Be the entire time,
[4:15] Speaker 4: so I got a lot of Daddy's in here.
[4:17] Speaker 1: Uh. Great actor, He's been in a million things.
[4:20] Speaker 4: He doesn't do much in this one. No, he is
[4:22] Speaker 4: just hanging out in the background. Eventually he fights, uh hand.
[4:26] Speaker 1: With a phone. Yeah, he just gonna wear he has
[4:31] Speaker 1: to wear a wig.
[4:32] Speaker 3: The entire beautiful, so weird, and the hat came back
[4:35] Speaker 3: to life in the drawer.
[4:38] Speaker 2: That's when he got freaked out. The hat, the hand,
[4:40] Speaker 2: the hand. Yeah, yes, yes, that's so weird.
[4:42] Speaker 1: Very weird. Directed by Gore Verbinsky, not his real name.
[4:47] Speaker 1: I looked it up. I was like, wow, his name
[4:49] Speaker 1: is Gordon Gordon. I think it's Justin or something, Gregor, Gregor,
[4:54] Speaker 1: Justin Urbinsky call me go now, now, he he directed
[5:01] Speaker 1: The Ring, yes, and I think he also did The
[5:04] Speaker 1: weather Man with Nick Cage, and then he did a
[5:08] Speaker 1: lot of these pirates. I think that's what you're saying
[5:10] Speaker 1: is maybe the three good ones in the first part
[5:13] Speaker 1: of this five part franchise did the trilogy there, So yeah,
[5:16] Speaker 1: that's the skinny here. Now, before we get into it,
[5:19] Speaker 1: we sort of go loosely seen by scene. I definitely
[5:22] Speaker 1: lean on Wikipedia sort of plot points here to help
[5:24] Speaker 1: us out. Did you see this in the theater back
[5:27] Speaker 1: you know, three t oh?
[5:28] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Like we're saying, this was a massive hit.
[5:32] Speaker 4: It was weird that it was a ride based on
[5:35] Speaker 4: or a movie based on a ride. You know, Johnny
[5:39] Speaker 4: Depp creates a character here that became an iconic character
[5:42] Speaker 4: in movies, gets nominated for Best Actor. Yeah, in a
[5:46] Speaker 4: comedy like pretty crazy. So yeah, I absolutely saw this
[5:49] Speaker 4: back then. I loved it back then, and it ain't
[5:52] Speaker 4: changed for me.
[5:53] Speaker 1: I'm still on that one. Have you been on the
[5:55] Speaker 1: ride at Disney World? Had I been?
[5:57] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[5:58] Speaker 4: Yes, I had been prime like when I was like
[6:01] Speaker 4: a small child, for sure, and then I didn't go
[6:03] Speaker 4: to Disney until like probably three years ago.
[6:07] Speaker 1: Shocked to find out Captain Jack is in the ride.
[6:10] Speaker 4: Now, oh okay, so such a the ride existed, they
[6:14] Speaker 4: made the movies, they became huge, and now Jack is
[6:16] Speaker 4: in the ride that he's based on.
[6:18] Speaker 1: Wow. Crazy when you say ride. It's not like coaster
[6:22] Speaker 1: type things. It's like an like a boat experience and
[6:25] Speaker 1: throw on a boat yeah and what things.
[6:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, so you see he's just stand in the back
[6:31] Speaker 2: heavy and it's it's animatronics.
[6:36] Speaker 1: I thought it was like always in my head, I
[6:38] Speaker 1: thought it was humans doing it. Oh, what's that thing?
[6:41] Speaker 1: I see? Then sometimes like a big I don't know
[6:43] Speaker 1: ship and people like humans jumping off it in it's
[6:46] Speaker 1: like a show.
[6:47] Speaker 2: I mean I've seen that at like Can's Wonder. Yeah,
[6:50] Speaker 2: one pm, three pm, and five pm.
[6:53] Speaker 1: That's what I wrote. This was okay.
[6:54] Speaker 4: I didn't realize maybe they do a stunt spectacular as well.
[6:57] Speaker 4: Somewhere you want to talk about a long ride, like
[7:00] Speaker 4: you're just sitting there.
[7:02] Speaker 1: The ride is boring. It's just like it's like you're
[7:05] Speaker 1: just looking at pictures kind of. So somebody took this
[7:08] Speaker 1: ride though it was so boring. They're like, yeah, we
[7:10] Speaker 1: should make this into a movie. Yeah, we're a billion dollars.
[7:14] Speaker 3: But you didn't like it even as a kid. Do
[7:15] Speaker 3: you remember it as well?
[7:17] Speaker 4: You're it's fine, Like to me, it's not an exciting
[7:19] Speaker 4: it's not a thrill ride.
[7:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's fucking lame, man, I mean state of the
[7:25] Speaker 2: art at the time. This, like Walt Disney was the
[7:27] Speaker 2: it was his last contribution to the parking. Yeah yeah,
[7:32] Speaker 2: yeah and whatever. So it's like Robots guys is like
[7:35] Speaker 2: you know, but for us it's like chuck E cheese boat. Yeah.
[7:40] Speaker 2: That's why, Like I did, I never saw this in
[7:42] Speaker 2: the theater. It was like, this is lame. This is
[7:44] Speaker 2: based on a ride. Everybody was like, what, like pirate,
[7:49] Speaker 2: You're gonna make a movie about the worst ride at
[7:51] Speaker 2: disney World, right, right? Yeah?
[7:53] Speaker 3: The most exciting part I would imagine is you stop
[7:58] Speaker 3: short all of a sudden in the boat, you stop
[8:00] Speaker 3: and then you reverse. Does that happen? Because that feels
[8:02] Speaker 3: like it happens in every animatronics, right, And that's the
[8:06] Speaker 3: most exciting.
[8:07] Speaker 1: This is better than It's a small world though.
[8:09] Speaker 2: Oh sure, I guess I've never been on either.
[8:14] Speaker 1: Okay, I've never been to disney World or Land, neither
[8:18] Speaker 1: single tier down my cheek so this does the riodte
[8:22] Speaker 1: still exist?
[8:23] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, I gotta go Jack there, go see Jack.
[8:27] Speaker 1: Okay, all right, let's get into the movie. Here. And
[8:30] Speaker 1: this movie starts, I guess in the early eighteenth century
[8:33] Speaker 1: is where we're placing this. We got Governor Swan, We
[8:35] Speaker 1: got Jonathan Price himself and his daughter Elizabeth. Yeah, we
[8:39] Speaker 1: can call him Daddy. They sail abroad. The HMS Dauntless
[8:43] Speaker 1: is what they're on, and it's captain by Lieutenant Norrington,
[8:46] Speaker 1: who's one of the minor characters I guess in this movie.
[8:49] Speaker 1: While on the open waters, they encounter a shipwreck and
[8:53] Speaker 1: rescue a boy named Will Turner and Elizabeth I love
[8:57] Speaker 1: this young girl is put in charge of watching over
[8:59] Speaker 1: this child that was washed ashore, and she notices the
[9:03] Speaker 1: gold medallion around Will's neck and she takes it while
[9:08] Speaker 1: he's unconscious, and like she's taking it like feels like
[9:11] Speaker 1: twofold one to sort of help hide his identity as
[9:14] Speaker 1: a potential pirate, right, because you know, everybody on that
[9:18] Speaker 1: boat they hate pirates. And then two it's like she
[9:20] Speaker 1: just loves gold. I think she just likes the pirate life, right.
[9:23] Speaker 4: She's obsessed with pirates for sure because Gibbs Old Mutton
[9:27] Speaker 4: Chops is telling her about you know, a short drop
[9:31] Speaker 4: and a sudden stop.
[9:35] Speaker 2: I love that.
[9:35] Speaker 1: And they're like. Daddy's like, oh, you're scaring her, and
[9:38] Speaker 1: she's like, I'm not scared of I love to hear. Yeah,
[9:40] Speaker 1: she wants to be a pirate. Yeah, and she does
[9:43] Speaker 1: notice a ghostly ship sail away. Did you know it's
[9:47] Speaker 1: bad luck to sing about pirates.
[9:48] Speaker 2: To sing about pirate That's what GiB.
[9:50] Speaker 1: Says, That's what he says. Maybe Norington her dad says that. Yeah,
[9:56] Speaker 1: they definitely say, hey, don't sing about pirates. Bad luck.
[10:00] Speaker 2: Can everything's bad luck on a boat though? Right? Women
[10:03] Speaker 2: know this? Yeah?
[10:05] Speaker 3: No, women right if they say that multiple.
[10:10] Speaker 1: All right, so this is the start of the movie.
[10:11] Speaker 1: What did you think? Were you hooked?
[10:14] Speaker 3: Sure?
[10:14] Speaker 1: Right away?
[10:14] Speaker 2: Sure?
[10:15] Speaker 3: Yeah, I want listen. There's so many plot lines and twists. Yeah,
[10:19] Speaker 3: she grabs the little pirate insignia. Yeah, yes, yes, yes,
[10:25] Speaker 3: right off his chest. So yeah, I'm into it. And
[10:30] Speaker 3: the weird thing is as you refer to Lieutenant Norrington
[10:34] Speaker 3: commodore Norton.
[10:35] Speaker 1: Because he gets a promotion later on. Yeah, I love I.
[10:37] Speaker 3: Love hearing the term commodore normony.
[10:39] Speaker 1: Commodore's are great term.
[10:41] Speaker 3: Yeah, well, eventually proposed to Elizabeth here. So yeah, there's
[10:46] Speaker 3: somebody through lines. I mean, the twists happened right off
[10:49] Speaker 3: the bat. Yeah, I love it.
[10:50] Speaker 1: Eight years later, in Port Royal, Jamaica, Norrington is promoted
[10:55] Speaker 1: to commodore. He did, he put in a lot of work.
[10:58] Speaker 2: Damn what a title.
[10:59] Speaker 1: What would you rather be? Commodore or captain? Captain?
[11:03] Speaker 2: I would too.
[11:04] Speaker 1: It's above commodore. No, it's not.
[11:07] Speaker 2: I don't think.
[11:08] Speaker 1: I didn't think so.
[11:09] Speaker 2: I think commodore is above captain, which you're in charge
[11:12] Speaker 2: of the fleet, and then a captain charges of the boat.
[11:16] Speaker 4: Yeah okay, just above captain, but below a rear admiral. Interesting,
[11:21] Speaker 4: does that change your opinion? Would be a captain?
[11:24] Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, you can be in charge of up to
[11:27] Speaker 3: sixty four things. That's why they call it commodore. Oh god.
[11:31] Speaker 1: Wow, Okay, So yeah, he's promoted to commodore and while
[11:36] Speaker 1: will I mean, you know, they did save him. This
[11:39] Speaker 1: young boy. He's got no family and so he's there
[11:41] Speaker 1: now in this city or this port or town or whatever.
[11:44] Speaker 1: He works as a as a simple but talented blacksmith.
[11:49] Speaker 1: He's very good at balance or making swords and stuff.
[11:52] Speaker 1: The balance is perfect, he says something like the tang
[11:55] Speaker 1: is nearly the entire length of the blade, Like, oh,
[11:58] Speaker 1: is it well done? Yeah?
[12:01] Speaker 4: This guy keep doing everything. He's made like nine thousand swords. See,
[12:04] Speaker 4: he apparently built the cells that they keep jack in
[12:07] Speaker 4: as well. I gotta say I love Kiera Knightley and
[12:09] Speaker 4: Orlando Bloom because when you look at their faces, you're
[12:12] Speaker 4: like they're from the seventeen hundreds. Yeah, they both easily
[12:15] Speaker 4: pass in a period piece.
[12:17] Speaker 1: Yes, I mean he looks just like a freaking what
[12:20] Speaker 1: I think of a pirate to look like himself. Definitely
[12:23] Speaker 1: back in the olden days, both of them. You're right,
[12:25] Speaker 1: we're happy with the casting. I know we'll get into
[12:28] Speaker 1: depth and rush and all that.
[12:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean off the bat, as you say, Orlando
[12:34] Speaker 2: Bloom is he's like handsome, he's dashing. I think he's
[12:38] Speaker 2: supposed to be darkier than he is actually on screen,
[12:42] Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like the whole thing with
[12:44] Speaker 2: the candle coming out, the sconces, oh.
[12:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, and throws it in the garbage. Can din't know
[12:49] Speaker 1: they had those?
[12:50] Speaker 2: Yeah? He can't start a buck down the head every
[12:52] Speaker 2: once in a while, but he's still really good with
[12:53] Speaker 2: the sword kind of thing. Yeah. I thought he was
[12:56] Speaker 2: really strong at the first fifteen minutes of this movie
[12:59] Speaker 2: and then he just kind of fades into the background
[13:01] Speaker 2: because obviously depth takes over. Yeah right, yeah, I think that's.
[13:05] Speaker 1: Some truth to that. Yeah, And this is where Pirate
[13:08] Speaker 1: Captain Jack Sparrow arrives here, and I clucked it nine
[13:12] Speaker 1: minutes until we see him in the movie, and it's
[13:15] Speaker 1: his mascara and his eyeliner and obviously his look, and
[13:17] Speaker 1: it's become legendary here in this series. And I did
[13:21] Speaker 1: like when he arrived. I laughed when he rowed the boat,
[13:24] Speaker 1: the sinking boat in as it sunk perfectly to allow
[13:28] Speaker 1: him to step off onto the dock. I was like, Okay,
[13:30] Speaker 1: I like that part.
[13:31] Speaker 2: That's a great scene.
[13:32] Speaker 3: Grand shot. He's the best worst pirate.
[13:34] Speaker 2: It's official.
[13:35] Speaker 3: I mean, he really comes on in and then there's
[13:38] Speaker 3: the tilt up of the camera shot so prestigious, and
[13:42] Speaker 3: then he walks off from a sinking boat. Yeah, it's glorious.
[13:47] Speaker 4: Man, he doesn't all Yeah, it's a perfect intro for him.
[13:50] Speaker 4: You're like, oh, man, look at this guy. Looks like
[13:52] Speaker 4: a great pirate. Then you see, oh he's a joke
[13:54] Speaker 4: and he's just barely surviving by the skin of his
[13:56] Speaker 4: teeth as we go on throughout this series. Like that's
[14:00] Speaker 4: Jack's essence, right, Like, yes, he's not actually the best pirate,
[14:04] Speaker 4: but he's also kind of the best pirate.
[14:05] Speaker 3: Yeah, he does it both.
[14:07] Speaker 1: I mean he's smart like head. Yeah, yeah, that's that's
[14:12] Speaker 1: the way to put it.
[14:13] Speaker 4: A lot of dinghy as well, Like he's a I
[14:16] Speaker 4: don't know if you would say he's on a dinghy necessarily,
[14:18] Speaker 4: but that's a that's a boat word I like as well.
[14:20] Speaker 1: There's a lot of great boat words I'll get into
[14:22] Speaker 1: here for sure.
[14:23] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that was not a dingy because it's actually
[14:25] Speaker 3: it's sinking.
[14:26] Speaker 1: It does have a staff.
[14:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's what he's perched on coming in. That's
[14:33] Speaker 3: what he's standing on coming in. He looks brave and brilliant,
[14:37] Speaker 3: and then the water is penetrating the boat so it's sinking,
[14:40] Speaker 3: but he just walks right on off perfectly.
[14:43] Speaker 2: He does. Yeah.
[14:44] Speaker 3: The first half hours awesome, and he almost gets captured,
[14:47] Speaker 3: sort of gets captured, runs off and does his little run.
[14:52] Speaker 1: I mean, look, depth made a choice here, JD. How
[14:55] Speaker 1: he was going to approach being a pirate or a
[14:58] Speaker 1: captain of a pirate ship. I mean it's like it was.
[15:01] Speaker 1: Now we sort of just like you immediately when you
[15:03] Speaker 1: probably think of pirates in movies, you sort of, I
[15:06] Speaker 1: don't know, you probably quickly think of depth. But before
[15:09] Speaker 1: him like this, the way he talks, obviously he dresses
[15:13] Speaker 1: and handles himself and all that. It's vocabulary.
[15:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, the choices that he made are crazy. Originally he
[15:21] Speaker 2: wanted to have a nose that got chopped off. Did
[15:23] Speaker 2: you read about this. His nose was supposed to be
[15:27] Speaker 2: blue because his his his nose had been chopped off
[15:32] Speaker 2: in a fight, and then they sewed it back on.
[15:34] Speaker 2: But he was afraid of sneezing all the time because
[15:36] Speaker 2: the nose would fly off, and that was part of
[15:39] Speaker 2: the creation of his character. They ditched that. That's probably smart, probably,
[15:46] Speaker 2: but yeah, he takes all the credit for this. The
[15:51] Speaker 2: cast and crew all say, like he this is all
[15:55] Speaker 2: depths creation and it's genius. Like this, the introduction to
[15:59] Speaker 2: the character, like the up on the mask and then
[16:02] Speaker 2: you realize it's a dingy and then he walks off
[16:04] Speaker 2: like It's one of the most perfect intros to a
[16:07] Speaker 2: character ever, and it's instantly iconic, and then throughout the
[16:12] Speaker 2: movie like this, this is the Heath Ledger of the Joker,
[16:15] Speaker 2: this is Anton Schager, this is like, this character makes
[16:19] Speaker 2: this franchise. There's it's he. It's the reason why there's
[16:22] Speaker 2: five more movies, right, I mean, you can't say too
[16:25] Speaker 2: much about it. And he deserved the Oscar nomination for it,
[16:29] Speaker 2: So yeah, I love it.
[16:31] Speaker 1: Five Oscar nominations, I think, in total totally first one here.
[16:34] Speaker 1: I don't believe they won any, but you know they
[16:36] Speaker 1: didn't even to get them. And yeah, like you said,
[16:38] Speaker 1: him in the lead role in a weird comedy pirate movie.
[16:42] Speaker 3: You said, five more movies. JD. He's not in More Mixed, right,
[16:45] Speaker 3: because the sixt one is coming out at some point,
[16:47] Speaker 3: but he's not in it.
[16:48] Speaker 2: As far as I know, he's not. But he's also
[16:51] Speaker 2: in his sixties, right.
[16:52] Speaker 3: Well, he's coming back as Ebenezer. Well that's an age
[16:55] Speaker 3: appropriate role, is this year?
[16:58] Speaker 1: Is he really?
[16:58] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[16:59] Speaker 3: And you're gonna love it, Skeates you are, You're.
[17:04] Speaker 2: You're an Ebenezer lover as well as you brought up.
[17:09] Speaker 1: Set him recently.
[17:12] Speaker 3: Later in November, he plays It's called Ebenezer. The film
[17:18] Speaker 3: is called.
[17:18] Speaker 2: Just what We Needed, another retelling of the Christmas.
[17:22] Speaker 1: Okay, well, later and if I skip over any scenes
[17:25] Speaker 1: that you want to address, obviously jump in here. But
[17:27] Speaker 1: like later Norrington, he does propose to Elizabeth atop of
[17:32] Speaker 1: a cliff or they're sort of on the city walls
[17:34] Speaker 1: there at the port walls or something like that. But
[17:37] Speaker 1: she faints because she is wearing and we saw in
[17:39] Speaker 1: a previous scene she's wearing a corset that Daddy gave her,
[17:44] Speaker 1: a very tight fitting corset, so it's obviously constricting her
[17:47] Speaker 1: breathing and all that, and she just straight up faints
[17:50] Speaker 1: and falls into the ocean, causing the medallion that she
[17:55] Speaker 1: is carrying she had put it on, just likes wearing it,
[17:59] Speaker 1: feeling it on her chain, right, and that when it
[18:01] Speaker 1: hits the water, I guess emitted like a pulse, right, yeah,
[18:06] Speaker 1: And that that what triggered the the actual undead pirates
[18:11] Speaker 1: here led by Jeffrey Rush and that crew Barbosa to
[18:14] Speaker 1: come to find this final piece. That's what happened, right, yeah, exactly, duh.
[18:20] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[18:21] Speaker 4: The once a Cortes's gold hits the water, it sends
[18:24] Speaker 4: out sonar.
[18:27] Speaker 1: Everybody knows that.
[18:28] Speaker 4: And then they come you know, eventually the the weather
[18:31] Speaker 4: gets worse, but apparently they still.
[18:33] Speaker 1: Have to travel there.
[18:35] Speaker 4: They're like they've been alerted, but they're not there instantly, right,
[18:38] Speaker 4: they still got to make their way there. But I
[18:40] Speaker 4: like this, we've learned already that Jack is a criminal,
[18:44] Speaker 4: right because he comes in on his thing. The guy
[18:47] Speaker 4: stops and says, you got to give me a shilling.
[18:48] Speaker 4: He's like, I'll give you three. Don't say who I am.
[18:51] Speaker 4: And then as he's walking off his steel his little
[18:53] Speaker 4: purse of coins. So we know he's a bad guy. Yeah,
[18:56] Speaker 4: But also nobody's willing to save Elizabeth Swan except for
[19:00] Speaker 4: Jack Sparrow.
[19:01] Speaker 1: And he hits a beautiful twelve to six dives.
[19:05] Speaker 2: Perfect well done. It was perfect. It looked almost better
[19:11] Speaker 2: under the water, like the execution above the water flawless,
[19:15] Speaker 2: but then cutting to under the water, it was beautiful.
[19:19] Speaker 1: He killed it. Yeah, so he read He rescues Elizabeth, yeah,
[19:23] Speaker 1: pulls her up onto the dock there he you know,
[19:26] Speaker 1: discovers the medallion there. But this is where they're like still,
[19:30] Speaker 1: she's like struggling to breeze still, and he rips off
[19:33] Speaker 1: or cuts off. I guess Elizabeth's corset and a guard comments,
[19:37] Speaker 1: never would have thought of that, and Jack replies, you've
[19:41] Speaker 1: clearly never been to Singapore.
[19:43] Speaker 3: This was my first Like, hold on, I didn't get
[19:47] Speaker 3: that either.
[19:48] Speaker 1: What he's just implying. I guess he's undressed a lot
[19:51] Speaker 1: of women in Singapore.
[19:52] Speaker 4: Yes, but that's what that's all the joke is, that's
[19:54] Speaker 4: exactly what you're saying. And it'll pay off. I'm just
[19:57] Speaker 4: telling you it'll pay off later. Wow, Singapore will pay off?
[20:01] Speaker 4: What guarantee to the seed here?
[20:04] Speaker 1: Yep.
[20:05] Speaker 4: But you're also getting him looking at his compass doesn't
[20:08] Speaker 4: point nor oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Like I love this
[20:11] Speaker 4: scene where he all of this stuff in Port Royal.
[20:14] Speaker 4: First of all, I think Port Royal like looks awesome. Yeah,
[20:17] Speaker 4: Like it looks like a real place.
[20:19] Speaker 1: I think they filmed it in Saint Vincent, I believe. Yeah,
[20:22] Speaker 1: and the Grenadines is it? Yeah, yeah, that's right, so
[20:25] Speaker 1: in the Caribbean.
[20:26] Speaker 4: But you're getting some really good table setting, Like for
[20:28] Speaker 4: in the first forty five minutes of this movie, you're
[20:30] Speaker 4: like learning about the curse, You're learning about Jack's compass
[20:34] Speaker 4: that doesn't point where you think it's gonna point.
[20:36] Speaker 1: You're learning who everybody is.
[20:37] Speaker 4: You're learning that, oh, there's some pirate blood in uh
[20:41] Speaker 4: Will Turner. You're learning that Elizabeth is obsessed with pirates.
[20:45] Speaker 4: Like everything in the first half hour is gonna pay
[20:47] Speaker 4: off in the next two hours.
[20:48] Speaker 1: And you're learning you got you gotta go to Singapore.
[20:51] Speaker 1: It you gotta go to Singapore. It is a good
[20:53] Speaker 1: start to this movie. For sure. I'm with you and
[20:55] Speaker 1: I I wasn't sure when we obviously this was in
[20:58] Speaker 1: our our pitch. I guess as you did task. I
[21:01] Speaker 1: wasn't sure if I had watched any of these or
[21:03] Speaker 1: how many of these confirmed. I hadn't seen this, so
[21:06] Speaker 1: I of course he's seen photos and seeing little clips
[21:08] Speaker 1: here and there, and maybe even caught a part of
[21:10] Speaker 1: it on TV or something, but I never watched it
[21:12] Speaker 1: front to back, so I was. I was into it
[21:14] Speaker 1: at the beginning, for sure. I love this as like
[21:18] Speaker 1: they get to Jack and Elizabeth, they want to kill
[21:21] Speaker 1: Jack immediately because you're a pirate.
[21:24] Speaker 4: We kill pirates. They had the three corpses hanging when
[21:27] Speaker 4: he was cruising into Port Royal as well, but then
[21:31] Speaker 4: Elizabeth is like, you can't kill this guy. He literally
[21:33] Speaker 4: saved my life and jack'say, thank you, and then he
[21:36] Speaker 4: kidnaps her, which I'm.
[21:37] Speaker 1: Like, that's awesome. He's still a criminal here, and I
[21:40] Speaker 1: think this scene, like this is kind of Depp at
[21:43] Speaker 1: his best when he's like creeping on Elizabeth and he
[21:47] Speaker 1: looks like he stinks hi him and you see his teeth.
[21:51] Speaker 1: He looks like the grossest guy.
[21:53] Speaker 4: It is like a little bit horny, and you know, like,
[21:56] Speaker 4: as we found out about Johnny Depp, they really play
[21:59] Speaker 4: into his stress.
[22:01] Speaker 1: An accout creep, but he's an absolute creep in this
[22:04] Speaker 1: scene and it's great. Yeah.
[22:05] Speaker 3: Yeah, he does it all man. He seems incompetent, but
[22:09] Speaker 3: he's brilliant at the same time.
[22:10] Speaker 1: Yeah, he's both hate you hate him and you like him,
[22:13] Speaker 1: and he's like he's like a perfect Some wrestlers can
[22:16] Speaker 1: balance that. Yeah. They blast him up and he's like
[22:18] Speaker 1: swinging around on the thing. He obviously misplayed it, but
[22:20] Speaker 1: he looks like a tether ball.
[22:21] Speaker 4: They can't shoot and he launched us to the right place.
[22:23] Speaker 4: It's like he always does something wrong and he always
[22:25] Speaker 4: does something right. Yeah, so you're right.
[22:27] Speaker 1: Swan orders Jack's execution after he's identified as a pirate
[22:30] Speaker 1: but then Jack flees, uh you know, with the help
[22:33] Speaker 1: of sort of taking Elizabeth hostage there and he gets
[22:35] Speaker 1: into Will's shop, into the blacksmith shop. There's an old
[22:39] Speaker 1: drunk guy there just passed. I guess they never really
[22:44] Speaker 1: said who that like the relation. He was brown on
[22:46] Speaker 1: the sign that says and brown. He's brown. Oh. At
[22:50] Speaker 1: the end they say thanks mister Brown. And this is
[22:54] Speaker 1: then we have our first real sword fight I guess
[22:56] Speaker 1: battle between Will and Jack and ends in a bit
[23:01] Speaker 1: of a stalemate here. This was a long sword fight.
[23:03] Speaker 1: Long sort This was a long sword fight. There were
[23:07] Speaker 1: some good moments.
[23:08] Speaker 3: Did you like the score underneath the swords hitting each other?
[23:11] Speaker 2: JD? Because I thought, look, the score is basically flawless,
[23:15] Speaker 2: even though whoa, whoa, whoaea.
[23:17] Speaker 1: I want to push back on this, but you explained why.
[23:20] Speaker 2: I mean, it is a bit of a ripoff of Gladiator,
[23:23] Speaker 2: but Zimmer is ripping himself off, like if you there's
[23:30] Speaker 2: I've watched videos online of like back to back, like
[23:33] Speaker 2: comparing the opening scene of Gladiator and then the main
[23:37] Speaker 2: theme of this movie, and it's very very close, but
[23:43] Speaker 2: it's fucking it rocks.
[23:44] Speaker 1: I think. My my one issue with this movie is
[23:47] Speaker 1: when it comes to the music, is it felt like
[23:49] Speaker 1: for seventy five percent of the movie, all they were
[23:52] Speaker 1: playing was like, it feels like every action he scene,
[24:00] Speaker 1: how's that type of song?
[24:02] Speaker 2: It's a pirate movie, switching up with a drop. Well,
[24:08] Speaker 2: all Zimmer does now is soundscapes, right, So I enjoyed
[24:12] Speaker 2: the John Williams ish of it and the melodies and
[24:16] Speaker 2: fucking a galloping triplet. Sorry, I'm a sucker for it's
[24:23] Speaker 2: just screams swashbuckling and that's what this mom. Definitely, I'm
[24:28] Speaker 2: into it too.
[24:29] Speaker 3: Skeets, you may not be into it because it also
[24:31] Speaker 3: sounds like a show you host every week for the
[24:33] Speaker 3: last several years and no buffs.
[24:35] Speaker 1: I mean it sounds yeah maybe maybe.
[24:39] Speaker 3: I don't know. If you you got the split screens
[24:41] Speaker 3: with old Zimmer split you know, do it a third
[24:45] Speaker 3: screen with this one?
[24:47] Speaker 2: I should say I did.
[24:49] Speaker 1: I think it was a fairly ingenious way for Sparrow
[24:52] Speaker 1: to break his handcuffs using the donkey and that giant gear.
[24:57] Speaker 1: Oh okay, that was cool. Instead of just a simple
[25:00] Speaker 1: you know, smack it with something, they tried to smack it.
[25:03] Speaker 1: I like, but yeah, I'm with you. This sword fight
[25:07] Speaker 1: last for its serious endurance. In this sword fight, there's
[25:12] Speaker 1: the time like, uh, Will gets launched up first via
[25:16] Speaker 1: like the seesaw me he had jumps in lands. Then
[25:20] Speaker 1: Jack gets launched. He has to.
[25:22] Speaker 4: Grab on to like one of the boards going across
[25:25] Speaker 4: the top.
[25:26] Speaker 1: And I'm thinking just dropped down and leave. Yeah, Will
[25:30] Speaker 1: stuck up there.
[25:30] Speaker 4: Yeah, that seemed like an easy chance for Jack to
[25:32] Speaker 4: leave at that point, but maybe he wanted to prove
[25:34] Speaker 4: his swordsman skills.
[25:35] Speaker 1: I think any not just this movie, like any movie
[25:38] Speaker 1: where there's a sword battle, Like I'm into it for
[25:41] Speaker 1: the first fours yeah, and then I'm done because it's
[25:45] Speaker 1: like sort of just more of the same. There's not
[25:47] Speaker 1: a lot of like I mean, they come up with
[25:49] Speaker 1: some unique moves here and there, but a lot of
[25:51] Speaker 1: it just becomes so repetitive and like at this point
[25:54] Speaker 1: of the movie, too let's go, it's like, you know,
[25:56] Speaker 1: nobody's nobody's getting a stab in here too early. Man,
[25:59] Speaker 1: these are are two basically protagonists, Like they're not killing
[26:02] Speaker 1: each other, no one's even gonna get cut.
[26:03] Speaker 2: So in defense of this, it's their first meeting. It's
[26:08] Speaker 2: the beginning of what I assume is going to become
[26:11] Speaker 2: a beautiful friendship over the next for what however many
[26:15] Speaker 2: movies they're in it, and there's a lot of exposition dropped,
[26:19] Speaker 2: and we're getting a feel for not only Johnny Depp,
[26:23] Speaker 2: but Orlando's character. You know, this is a long sword fight.
[26:29] Speaker 2: It's not the longest I'm gonna defend this particular Okay,
[26:34] Speaker 2: this one. Yeah, and it's goofy too. Yes, But as
[26:37] Speaker 2: soon as we see h Jack Sparrow step onto that doc,
[26:44] Speaker 2: we're like, okay, this is kind of a cartoon. Yeah, yeah,
[26:47] Speaker 2: and we're fine. And then that that that's at the
[26:48] Speaker 2: tone and I'm fine, I'm I'm rolling with the seesaw
[26:51] Speaker 2: stuff and.
[26:51] Speaker 1: All this Seesaw. Yeah, the two of them bonded through
[26:54] Speaker 1: sword parkour and they have mutual respect now for one another.
[27:00] Speaker 1: Anything else from from this long seat of sort.
[27:02] Speaker 4: Of fight, Yeah, man, I think I would just say
[27:04] Speaker 4: that when it comes to their technique, Jackson natural and
[27:08] Speaker 4: Will Turner is a system sword fighter. If Will didn't
[27:13] Speaker 4: have a hundred swords in that room.
[27:16] Speaker 1: He's dead.
[27:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, Jack Adam.
[27:18] Speaker 1: Oh why aren't they when they're fighting? Doesn't he say,
[27:20] Speaker 1: like I practice all the time. Yeah, that's right, that's right.
[27:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess the big takeaway here is uh uh,
[27:31] Speaker 2: what the hell is he plays by the rules and
[27:36] Speaker 2: Jack Sparrow doesn't, right, and that's the pirate way, and
[27:38] Speaker 2: that's sort of what we're establishing here.
[27:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, damn right, Okay, moving on that night, Port Royal
[27:45] Speaker 1: is attacked by the pirate crew of the Black Pearl,
[27:48] Speaker 1: who are in search of this medallion because it's been
[27:50] Speaker 1: triggered in the water. Gotta get water on it to
[27:53] Speaker 1: trigger it.
[27:54] Speaker 3: Uh.
[27:54] Speaker 1: And then we have the two what I call dipship pirates,
[27:58] Speaker 1: Raghetti and Pintal Well. I guess are their names?
[28:01] Speaker 2: You know?
[28:01] Speaker 1: According to IMDb, Uh, we're talking Gareth from the original office.
[28:06] Speaker 1: And then I don't I couldn't place the second Native ship.
[28:09] Speaker 1: But anyway, there's the comedy duo. No, that's Gareth, Gareth,
[28:13] Speaker 1: he's the Wooden h that's the other guy's pin tell.
[28:18] Speaker 3: I guess, yeah, I don't even know their names.
[28:20] Speaker 1: Oh, I know, I don't. I don't even know if
[28:22] Speaker 1: they say that. I don't think they do.
[28:23] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[28:24] Speaker 1: They take Elizabeth hostage to meet Barbosa after she identifies
[28:30] Speaker 1: herself as Elizabeth Turner, obviously an important last name here,
[28:34] Speaker 1: and she invokes the code of parlay. You get a
[28:37] Speaker 1: lot of invoking the code of parlay.
[28:39] Speaker 4: There's a lot of parlay. Yeah, a lot of parlay
[28:41] Speaker 4: in this one. Shout out to FanDuel. This is the
[28:43] Speaker 4: first time I ever heard.
[28:44] Speaker 1: About parlays, and I think they're different. But this is
[28:48] Speaker 1: uh this like.
[28:50] Speaker 4: The pirates first coming to Port Royal is maybe my
[28:52] Speaker 4: favorite scene in this movie, and for sure my favorite
[28:56] Speaker 4: line is when bald, long stringy hair Pirate looks through
[29:01] Speaker 4: the crack of the closet and says, hello.
[29:05] Speaker 1: I love it.
[29:06] Speaker 4: Man.
[29:06] Speaker 1: I've been saying non stop, why do you keep calling
[29:10] Speaker 1: of popping? Don't worry about it? So okay. The question
[29:17] Speaker 1: here is did Elizabeth say her last name was Turner
[29:20] Speaker 1: to just hide her true identity as the governor's daughter,
[29:24] Speaker 1: like thinking there'd be a huge like I think high value.
[29:27] Speaker 1: She says it later, I guess a little bit later. Yeah.
[29:30] Speaker 1: I think at the time I was like, what that's
[29:33] Speaker 1: why is she doing that? But you're right, she did
[29:35] Speaker 1: sort of explain it. There's that scene with her maid
[29:37] Speaker 1: where they're like, they're after you, you're the Governor's daughters it, Yeah, okay,
[29:41] Speaker 1: well she's thinking on her feet and then did the parlay,
[29:43] Speaker 1: and they're like, god damn it. You know pirates man,
[29:45] Speaker 1: Like pirates are like, there's no rules, but man, the
[29:48] Speaker 1: few rules there are. It's a code.
[29:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no rules, but there's definitely Yeah, there's one
[29:54] Speaker 2: big couple that are like, absolutely, yeah, it's on point.
[29:59] Speaker 2: They say they're unwritten rules essentially, right, and they say
[30:02] Speaker 2: it's a guideline.
[30:05] Speaker 1: They start making fun of that. Yeah. Okay, So we
[30:10] Speaker 1: get obviously Elizabeth to Barbosa here, this is Jeffrey Rush,
[30:13] Speaker 1: and Barbosa explains to Elizabeth that the medallion is one
[30:18] Speaker 1: of eight hundred and eighty two cursed gold pieces used
[30:22] Speaker 1: to bribe Hernan Cortez to stop his slaughter of the Aztecs. Okay, yep, yep,
[30:28] Speaker 1: getting some backstory here of what the hell these things are.
[30:31] Speaker 1: After finding and stealing the cursed gold at Isla to Muerta,
[30:34] Speaker 1: the crew became zombie skeletons who cannot feel pleasure or
[30:38] Speaker 1: pain or even enjoy a simple Granny Smith apple man.
[30:43] Speaker 1: This guy, that's all he wanted to do. He just
[30:44] Speaker 1: wants an apple. He just wants an apple. It's all
[30:46] Speaker 1: Barbosa wants.
[30:47] Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's purposely green, right JD to stand out
[30:52] Speaker 3: as as a green apple rather than any red, because.
[30:55] Speaker 2: It truly does.
[30:56] Speaker 1: I hadn't thought of that.
[30:57] Speaker 2: It pops and it looks great. Everything in this movie
[30:59] Speaker 2: looks great. It like from the you know, the vistas
[31:03] Speaker 2: of the beaches and to the apple, to the coins themselves,
[31:07] Speaker 2: like in that big chest. They feel so weighty, and
[31:11] Speaker 2: it just feels important.
[31:14] Speaker 1: I thought, look pretty damn good. Yeah, ohs look good.
[31:19] Speaker 3: Nominated for Best Visual Effects in two thousand and three.
[31:23] Speaker 3: I know you watch it now and you say, yeah,
[31:25] Speaker 3: I mean compared it's twenty three years ago. Well, but
[31:28] Speaker 3: and the sound editing and the sound mixing, I think, like.
[31:31] Speaker 4: The CG and this looks better than if you see Thunderbolts, yeah,
[31:36] Speaker 4: or like definitely looks better than the end of The
[31:38] Speaker 4: Newest Captain America where they're walking through those cherry blossoms
[31:42] Speaker 4: it looks terrible.
[31:42] Speaker 1: This looks awesome the entire way through.
[31:44] Speaker 4: And that's why, like we were talking on no Dungsters,
[31:47] Speaker 4: I'm like, they don't literally make movies like this anymore
[31:50] Speaker 4: because when they're coming to Port Royal and like the
[31:52] Speaker 4: pirates are messing everything up, there's real gigantic explosions everywhere. Yeah,
[31:57] Speaker 4: there's real extras everywhere. Guys are doing real stunts everywhere.
[32:03] Speaker 4: This is like a legitimate Blockbuster throwback sort of. When
[32:07] Speaker 4: I'm watching this, I'm like, this is really how they
[32:09] Speaker 4: used to make movies, and it's amazing the way that
[32:11] Speaker 4: they actually do it. Like, the costuming is great. These
[32:14] Speaker 4: guys teeth all look ridiculous. Yeah, the only clean guys are.
[32:17] Speaker 1: The East India Trading Company and like that totally makes
[32:20] Speaker 1: sense to me. Everybody else is struggling out there. These
[32:23] Speaker 1: rich guys are coming and trying to kill our pirates.
[32:25] Speaker 1: I just think it's beautiful. Yeah, I think it looks
[32:27] Speaker 1: so good.
[32:28] Speaker 2: And on that the pirates themselves, like Jeffrey Rush's crew,
[32:32] Speaker 2: each one is individual, right, like the attention to detail
[32:36] Speaker 2: to each character. They could have just sort of you know,
[32:38] Speaker 2: popped some patches and scarves on them and you know,
[32:41] Speaker 2: cover them with dirt and whatever. But you got Mackenzie
[32:44] Speaker 2: Crook with his wooden eye, and you got the guy
[32:46] Speaker 2: who likes to blow shit up and like and just
[32:49] Speaker 2: the teeth and the costume and did they all have
[32:52] Speaker 2: like an individual character And it's very very very well done.
[32:57] Speaker 1: Elizabeth at some point here stabs Barboso with a steak knife.
[33:01] Speaker 1: But sorry, nope, you cannot kill what's already dead. And
[33:06] Speaker 1: she flees then here to the to the deck and
[33:08] Speaker 1: finds all of the pirate crew, even the monkey.
[33:11] Speaker 2: Are skeletons.
[33:12] Speaker 1: This is where we first see that there are the skeletons, obviously.
[33:16] Speaker 4: Yeah, this is like Barbosa explains the curse to him
[33:20] Speaker 4: and all of the stuff. There's that weird part when
[33:23] Speaker 4: she meets all of the skeletons. She falls down into
[33:26] Speaker 4: a hole and they're just like chucking her up in
[33:28] Speaker 4: the air. Yeah, they do.
[33:33] Speaker 1: What was the point of that fell into it?
[33:36] Speaker 4: And that was the point of the guy who's just
[33:37] Speaker 4: swinging through the rope and catches her. What was he
[33:40] Speaker 4: doing in the middle of the night. A lot of
[33:45] Speaker 4: time on the boat, you know, we talked on survivor.
[33:47] Speaker 4: It's like you got to come up with things to
[33:48] Speaker 4: entertain yourself when you're stuck on the beach.
[33:49] Speaker 1: I guess same thing. How high can we throw this pumpkin?
[33:53] Speaker 1: Especially that they've probably done it to each other already
[33:56] Speaker 1: because like they can't die either or so, like great point,
[33:59] Speaker 1: how high can we get how much can we swing
[34:01] Speaker 1: around on this? Yeah? Uh so to lift the curse.
[34:05] Speaker 1: We do learn that the crew has returned all the
[34:07] Speaker 1: gold with an offering of blood from each member, but
[34:11] Speaker 1: one piece belonging to Bootstrap Bill Turner, a crew member
[34:17] Speaker 1: thrown overboard after the theft, is missing. And that is
[34:20] Speaker 1: why it's important to get the lineage of a Turner here.
[34:23] Speaker 1: And they think at first it's Elizabeth because she said
[34:25] Speaker 1: she's Elizabeth Turner, that she is Bootstrap's daughter. So Barbosa
[34:30] Speaker 1: intends to use her blood for for the ritual.
[34:33] Speaker 3: Yeah, Bootstrap Bill, I couldn't help but think he's coming back.
[34:44] Speaker 3: Planted that one earlier. I got a planted here because
[34:46] Speaker 3: it's it's it's yeah, it's well done.
[34:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's well done.
[34:50] Speaker 1: It's well hold on.
[34:51] Speaker 2: So they okay, so they talk through bootstraps Okay, yeah,
[34:58] Speaker 2: so so he were they mad at it. They put
[35:01] Speaker 2: a cannonball and they sunk him to the bottom of
[35:03] Speaker 2: the So, while this story is happening, are we to
[35:08] Speaker 2: assume that he is undead at the bottom of the ocean? Problem?
[35:12] Speaker 3: What you are to assume? I think that he's long gone.
[35:17] Speaker 2: Why if he's cursed like the guys, they don't die.
[35:20] Speaker 2: So he's at the bottom of the ocean, right.
[35:24] Speaker 3: Well, you're asking if he's at the bottom of the
[35:28] Speaker 3: ocean or what.
[35:28] Speaker 2: You should be thinking. I'm just I'm just wondering.
[35:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's where he is.
[35:34] Speaker 2: So and as soon as the curse gets lifted, he's
[35:37] Speaker 2: just gonna drown down there. That's dark man, that is
[35:41] Speaker 2: very dark.
[35:42] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, this is more. This is more of
[35:45] Speaker 1: an episode two.
[35:46] Speaker 2: Okay, okay, tough stuff.
[35:49] Speaker 1: For Bootstrap Bill.
[35:50] Speaker 4: I think he's double cursed, double double curse because right
[35:55] Speaker 4: now he's gold cursed and in the second movie he's
[36:00] Speaker 4: second movie cursed, which we'll find out about that one
[36:03] Speaker 4: that goes on. But obviously they think he's dead, yes,
[36:06] Speaker 4: because they're trying to get the blood.
[36:07] Speaker 1: Of his air, Yes, to overturn the curse. And the
[36:09] Speaker 1: reason the curse exists is caused Bootstrap stole the coin
[36:12] Speaker 1: gave it to his son.
[36:13] Speaker 2: Gotcha.
[36:14] Speaker 3: That's why it's a wonderful spin in number two where
[36:17] Speaker 3: you see Bill, because you assume me, you assume he's dead.
[36:19] Speaker 1: And do they tell us in this movie why he
[36:23] Speaker 1: was thrown overboard?
[36:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's where like what what what did he do?
[36:26] Speaker 1: Or maybe we learn in obviously the second episode, I
[36:29] Speaker 1: don't remember if they say, yeah it is something bootstrap
[36:34] Speaker 1: like they sort of just like, I don't know, go
[36:36] Speaker 1: quickly over all that part, obviously, and then it's becomes
[36:39] Speaker 1: the game of like, well, who's the who's the air
[36:41] Speaker 1: here and who has the blood that we can use
[36:43] Speaker 1: to undo the curse? But okay, maybe more bootstrap to come,
[36:47] Speaker 1: everybody more bootstrap, baby.
[36:49] Speaker 2: I mean the bootstrap and stuff. Notwithstanding all of this
[36:52] Speaker 2: exposition from Jeffrey Rush is fucking awesome. Man. Like this
[36:56] Speaker 2: guy he's actually better than Depth almost and I know
[37:01] Speaker 2: that's a hot take, but he is so good in
[37:04] Speaker 2: this movie. And just like the little things of when
[37:06] Speaker 2: he's watching Karen Knightley eat, you know, like the longing
[37:11] Speaker 2: of like, god, damn, I wish I could have that
[37:14] Speaker 2: and just want an apple.
[37:16] Speaker 1: Yeah you should try that.
[37:17] Speaker 2: App And he even gets away during during the whole
[37:20] Speaker 2: after she gets stabbed and they're chasing her around, he's
[37:22] Speaker 2: chasing her inside the cabin, he drops an R like
[37:27] Speaker 2: and actually diirates are and yeah, he gets away with
[37:31] Speaker 2: it doesn't feel wrong or out of place. And then
[37:34] Speaker 2: he's got the line of the movie where it's just like,
[37:37] Speaker 2: you don't believe in ghost stories while you're in one,
[37:39] Speaker 2: or whatever. Whatever that Mike drop line is, it's fucking great.
[37:43] Speaker 2: He is awesome in this.
[37:44] Speaker 1: I'm with you.
[37:45] Speaker 4: I like they use him for exposition really well, and
[37:48] Speaker 4: they use Mutton Chops Gibbs for exposition as well. They're like,
[37:51] Speaker 4: we're giving the guys with the craziest voices the chance
[37:54] Speaker 4: to talk as long as they want, and that's pretty smart. Yeah,
[37:57] Speaker 4: I do love like she Elizabeth gets on the thing
[38:00] Speaker 4: and there's he's she's trying to convince Barbosa take me back,
[38:03] Speaker 4: and he she says some kind of long sentence. He says, ah,
[38:06] Speaker 4: the long words. We are about humble pirates. Then she
[38:09] Speaker 4: makes another request. He says, I'm disinclined to with request requests.
[38:14] Speaker 1: It means no, we'll get to it later. Probably in
[38:17] Speaker 1: random observations, there was a word I had never heard
[38:20] Speaker 1: of before said in this movie. I had to pause,
[38:22] Speaker 1: look it up, learn some things.
[38:23] Speaker 2: We'll get to it lit.
[38:26] Speaker 1: What's right?
[38:28] Speaker 3: I knew part only pirates know the true meaning of parlay.
[38:34] Speaker 3: It was great to hear that. Why Bootstrap Bill was
[38:36] Speaker 3: thrown overboard. I did see this okay, I'll share it.
[38:39] Speaker 3: The mutiny was bootstrap Bill disagreed with Barbosa's mutiny against
[38:43] Speaker 3: Captain Jack Sparrow, okay, and then, feeling remorse for the betrayal,
[38:48] Speaker 3: he mailed his single piece of Aztec gold to his
[38:51] Speaker 3: son Will Turner, and his punishment after being after angering
[38:56] Speaker 3: by his defiance and realization that he had doomed them
[38:58] Speaker 3: to a personal permanent state of undead suffering without a
[39:01] Speaker 3: way to lift it, Barbosa had him tied to a
[39:03] Speaker 3: heavy cannon and thrown off the ship.
[39:05] Speaker 1: Yeah you okay, he said, He mailed it to.
[39:08] Speaker 3: Him, a single piece of as like, yeah.
[39:11] Speaker 2: That part I cut.
[39:18] Speaker 1: Comes in?
[39:19] Speaker 2: Don't mails be delivered?
[39:25] Speaker 1: Seen a boots going to the post office? And oh
[39:31] Speaker 1: can you understand for that? We'll take it all right.
[39:35] Speaker 1: Intent on rescuing Elizabeth, Will decides to free Jack here
[39:40] Speaker 1: and together they're going to steal the HMS interceptor this
[39:43] Speaker 1: other boat. And then there's a lot here because this
[39:47] Speaker 1: is where Will tells Jack his full name, and you
[39:50] Speaker 1: can see Sparrow. You can see uh Depp obviously as
[39:53] Speaker 1: Captain Jack Sparrow. He's connecting the dots immediately and he's like, oh, okay. Yeah. Now,
[39:58] Speaker 1: I don't know if you knew already, and the just
[40:00] Speaker 1: confirmed it. But he's like, okay, that's that's bootstrap Bill's boy.
[40:04] Speaker 1: Yeah for sure. I like the little ship switcheroo they did.
[40:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, they.
[40:10] Speaker 1: Didn't need to do that, but though it was smart.
[40:12] Speaker 4: They cause hop on the dart less first and they're
[40:15] Speaker 4: starting to steal that one, and the guys are like,
[40:18] Speaker 4: there's no way you can do this with just two
[40:20] Speaker 4: people on board. He's like okay, So then the interceptor
[40:23] Speaker 4: rolls up Norrington and the crew hops on and they
[40:25] Speaker 4: just to the other side.
[40:27] Speaker 1: See you later. Thanks for hooking us up. Commodore. I
[40:30] Speaker 1: guess to get out there too. They did the old
[40:32] Speaker 1: walk on the bottom of the ocean under a canoe.
[40:37] Speaker 2: Does that work? No? No, that wouldn't work.
[40:40] Speaker 1: I thought it could. No, I'm serious. I thought I
[40:44] Speaker 1: saw something about this.
[40:46] Speaker 2: I mean maybe maybe I guess that you can have
[40:49] Speaker 2: you know, you have the get the air pocket. How
[40:52] Speaker 2: would you get it?
[40:53] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[40:53] Speaker 2: That yn there.
[40:54] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[40:55] Speaker 2: I thought that was stupid. And I thought that the
[40:58] Speaker 2: idea that they would rush the entire crew off of
[41:02] Speaker 2: the one boat to the other one like Commodore everybody. Yes, everybody,
[41:06] Speaker 2: get the cook get the dishwasher, everybody gets on the boat.
[41:13] Speaker 1: I do like, in the span of three minutes, the
[41:15] Speaker 1: commodore goes from calling Sparrow the worst pirate he's ever
[41:18] Speaker 1: seen to the best pirates I've ever seen. Just took
[41:21] Speaker 1: them switching switching ships to impress them.
[41:25] Speaker 4: This this script loves a callback to a line. Oh yeah,
[41:29] Speaker 4: Like we talk about Parlay so much with these two
[41:32] Speaker 4: idiot pirates that.
[41:34] Speaker 1: At the end they're like, hey, how about Parlay. And
[41:36] Speaker 1: it's the same thing here.
[41:36] Speaker 4: It's like, you got Norrington saying that's got to be
[41:39] Speaker 4: the worst pirate I've ever seen, and like it's three
[41:42] Speaker 4: minutes later, that's got to be the best pirate I've
[41:44] Speaker 4: ever seen.
[41:45] Speaker 1: That happens so many times in this movie.
[41:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
[41:47] Speaker 3: The opening Norrington line is you are, without a doubt,
[41:51] Speaker 3: the worst pirate I've heard of, but.
[41:54] Speaker 2: You have heard of me?
[41:55] Speaker 3: Yea, And yeah, so it calls right back. It's beautiful stuff.
[41:58] Speaker 3: But while they're walking that canoe, Will's line is this
[42:03] Speaker 3: is either the most idiotic maneuver or the most brilliant
[42:07] Speaker 3: something to that effect, and that's when Sparrow replies that's
[42:11] Speaker 3: the essence of a lot of things in life, kind
[42:13] Speaker 3: of thing.
[42:14] Speaker 1: That's Jack Sparrow. Maybe you're right, that's his motto for sure.
[42:19] Speaker 1: So Jack and will they escape Here they escape to Tortuga,
[42:23] Speaker 1: which is one of my favorite places to say Spanish turtle.
[42:28] Speaker 1: I think it's a real place too, right, really, I
[42:31] Speaker 1: think it might be like Haiti or something. Yeah, yeah,
[42:33] Speaker 1: it's off. It's an island off the coast of Hate,
[42:35] Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure. So they're in Tortuga. They got to
[42:37] Speaker 1: recruit a recruit a crew and I guess get slapped
[42:41] Speaker 1: by prostitutes. And here's where we meet mister Gibbs, who
[42:47] Speaker 1: reveals Jack as the previous captain of the Black Pearl
[42:50] Speaker 1: and explains that Barbosa mutinied against Jack and marooned him
[42:53] Speaker 1: on the deserted island. So we'll get some more backstory
[42:57] Speaker 1: here and lots more happening. But mister Gibbs comes in
[43:00] Speaker 1: to mister Gibbs lying with the hogs.
[43:03] Speaker 4: That's where they just lying with some hogs. He knows
[43:06] Speaker 4: about Bootstrap Bill as well. He gets to do his
[43:09] Speaker 4: exposition in his good voice, and I just love like
[43:12] Speaker 4: the first three scene things we see when they get
[43:15] Speaker 4: to Tortuga are a guy standing on a porch with
[43:18] Speaker 4: a woman standing above him putting her skirt over his face,
[43:21] Speaker 4: and the guy's just like. Then they cut to a
[43:24] Speaker 4: woman with a massive chest pouring wine all over a guy,
[43:28] Speaker 4: and then a guy just pouring wine all over himself.
[43:32] Speaker 1: This looks like a we placed the Guya Pardy Tartuka
[43:36] Speaker 1: get wait for ma Vernie to visit.
[43:39] Speaker 2: I imagine wow.
[43:42] Speaker 4: But I was also like, man, I don't think a
[43:45] Speaker 4: single person in a Marvel movie has gotten a boner
[43:47] Speaker 4: since Tony Stark met Black Widow and Iron Man two.
[43:51] Speaker 1: It's like twenty years of zero sex, right, And.
[43:55] Speaker 4: This is a horny movie. Yeah, for a PG thirteen movie,
[43:58] Speaker 4: this is pretty horny.
[43:59] Speaker 1: It is PG three Disney movie. Yeah, I like it.
[44:04] Speaker 1: It's better humans like other humans. You do pirates come on, man.
[44:11] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the right amount of heartiness though, because I
[44:14] Speaker 3: don't think it goes overboard whatsoever.
[44:16] Speaker 1: No, it's PG thirt for sure. YEA.
[44:19] Speaker 3: No, Like as you mentioned earlier, you mentioned the line
[44:21] Speaker 3: that you call your kids and you and you kind
[44:24] Speaker 3: of said no, not right now. You imply that they
[44:26] Speaker 3: didn't watch it, And I feel like kids can watch this,
[44:28] Speaker 3: oh for sure. Yeah, it's totally fine.
[44:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, but I feel like, oh, you guys would be
[44:32] Speaker 1: able to know better than I would. Like a kid
[44:34] Speaker 1: would have to be a certain age otherwise I feel
[44:36] Speaker 1: like the skeletons would be pretty damn.
[44:39] Speaker 3: I got a six year old who watched some of
[44:40] Speaker 3: the zombie killings.
[44:43] Speaker 1: Because there are deaths in this movie. Yeah, I don't know.
[44:48] Speaker 3: I mean, she hasn't told me about her nightmares if
[44:50] Speaker 3: it's implied, if it's happened because of these zombies. But
[44:53] Speaker 3: I think she's totally fine. You're right, I do. I
[44:55] Speaker 3: don't know if you're the same. You guys are the same,
[44:57] Speaker 3: having watched it long time ago, but I did forget
[45:01] Speaker 3: about how violent those scenes are. Yeah, it is. It
[45:04] Speaker 3: is fairly.
[45:05] Speaker 1: At a certain point, I was like, Wow, who is
[45:08] Speaker 1: this really made for? Like what demographic? Because it's silly, goofy. Yeah,
[45:12] Speaker 1: it's sort of lean younger, but then it's yeah, there
[45:14] Speaker 1: are deaths. It's sort of creepy at times, pirates like
[45:17] Speaker 1: in the Horniness. I guess a little bit of it
[45:20] Speaker 1: all it was like that exkews older. I'm like, yeah,
[45:22] Speaker 1: but maybe that's what was it. Its beauty was it
[45:24] Speaker 1: was a little bit for everybody.
[45:26] Speaker 4: Yeah, my my guess is I mean it's PG thirteen
[45:29] Speaker 4: and this is the first live action movie that Disney
[45:31] Speaker 4: ever made that was PG thirteen, Like, so this is
[45:34] Speaker 4: a big step forward for them. So it is family friendly,
[45:37] Speaker 4: but it's like, I don't know, ten year olds maybe
[45:40] Speaker 4: like yeah, starting then, I don't know it's swearing in
[45:43] Speaker 4: this is there not much and it's I mean there's
[45:46] Speaker 4: a little bit of blood, Like there's a little blood
[45:50] Speaker 4: at the end when he gets shot, as well, tiny
[45:52] Speaker 4: bits when they sass the hands, but like this was
[45:55] Speaker 4: an R rated movie, like they're chopping off all you know,
[45:59] Speaker 4: it's a little bit differ. We rather just slitting a
[46:00] Speaker 4: little thing on her hand. So you know, Disney's trying
[46:03] Speaker 4: to make it edgier for sure, but they could only
[46:07] Speaker 4: go so far.
[46:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look at Indiana Jones right, like he
[46:10] Speaker 2: gets his heart ripped out of his chest and there's
[46:12] Speaker 2: a guy melting in the first one and a guy's
[46:14] Speaker 2: head blows up, and that was I think PG. I
[46:17] Speaker 2: don't think there was a PG thirteen when that came out.
[46:21] Speaker 2: Kids are fine with it, it's fine.
[46:23] Speaker 1: Another character we meet, Anna Marie who was what's her
[46:28] Speaker 1: name is, Zoe? Yeah, And I was like, is that her?
[46:32] Speaker 1: That's young her?
[46:33] Speaker 3: She's young.
[46:34] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's definitely her. I guess, well, I gotta
[46:36] Speaker 1: assume one of her first movies, I would think so. Yeah,
[46:39] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[46:42] Speaker 2: It was her first big budget, large production. And I
[46:47] Speaker 2: was telling you guys before we started recording, almost turned
[46:49] Speaker 2: her off acting completely. And she says it's because of
[46:53] Speaker 2: the politics behind on set, not with the fellow actors,
[46:57] Speaker 2: but with crew and stuff like that. But she did
[47:00] Speaker 2: not have a good time on this movie. But luckily
[47:03] Speaker 2: she didn't quit acting. No.
[47:05] Speaker 1: No, she's been in some big blockbusters, right.
[47:08] Speaker 2: She didn't like being on the wire. She likes being
[47:10] Speaker 2: in a mocap suit in a gray box.
[47:14] Speaker 1: Yeah. Weird part around this part of the movie that
[47:19] Speaker 1: I wanted to make note of. Jack Sparrow's told it's
[47:22] Speaker 1: bad luck to bring a woman aboard. Okay, Yeah, and
[47:25] Speaker 1: they're talking about Anne Marie because she's like, you owe
[47:28] Speaker 1: me a ship.
[47:29] Speaker 2: And all that.
[47:30] Speaker 1: Sparrow he looks off in the distance. Do you know
[47:33] Speaker 1: the scene I'm talking about? He looks off in the
[47:35] Speaker 1: distance and he says it'd be far worse not to
[47:37] Speaker 1: have her. Yeah, and like then Turner will Turner landa
[47:41] Speaker 1: Bluem and the other guy. I think it's maybe Gibbs,
[47:43] Speaker 1: Like they look up too like off screen and then
[47:48] Speaker 1: it smash cuts, like to the punishing storm. So I
[47:51] Speaker 1: know what they're trying to say here. I guess like, well, yeah,
[47:54] Speaker 1: I brought a woman on board, and now look at
[47:55] Speaker 1: the storm here. But it was just the look off
[47:58] Speaker 1: and the way it was Leicster edited. It was so weird.
[48:02] Speaker 1: Is that what you thought too?
[48:03] Speaker 3: Or No? I had another telescope visual in my head,
[48:08] Speaker 3: but that was a barbosa. So there's.
[48:13] Speaker 2: This movie. There's a lot of times where it feels
[48:15] Speaker 2: like Johnny Depp has just improved something, and then the
[48:19] Speaker 2: characters are like, what what do you what are you
[48:21] Speaker 2: looking at? Johnny? You know, it's such a funny. The
[48:26] Speaker 2: motivation is makes sense from from Jack Sparrow's point of view.
[48:31] Speaker 2: He's like, it'll be worse if we don't have her,
[48:34] Speaker 2: but I'm still gonna scan the horizon for any storm clouds.
[48:37] Speaker 2: But if you're an actor and you don't know that
[48:39] Speaker 2: he's going to do that, and you're just like, what
[48:41] Speaker 2: the is Thearah plane in the sky. Do we have
[48:43] Speaker 2: to cut or something like what's happening?
[48:46] Speaker 1: Funny little moment, all right on, Isla, Jack and Will
[48:50] Speaker 1: sneak into the treasure grotto where Barbosa fails to lift
[48:54] Speaker 1: the This grotto, by the way, very Goony's like, oh
[48:58] Speaker 1: the same spot, yeah, grotto. Barbosa fails to lift the
[49:02] Speaker 1: curse using Elizabeth's blood. Obviously she's not a turner. So
[49:06] Speaker 1: Will and Elizabeth escape with her medallion because man, she
[49:09] Speaker 1: loves that damn necklace. Medallion pirates like it's there and
[49:13] Speaker 1: like they're going to flee, and she makes sure to
[49:15] Speaker 1: grab it. But Jack is captured and in prisoned on
[49:19] Speaker 1: the Pearl. Jack gets captured a lot, at least three times.
[49:27] Speaker 3: He makes me laugh in that jail cell.
[49:29] Speaker 2: Though.
[49:29] Speaker 3: There's the once when he hears guns from and he goes,
[49:31] Speaker 3: I know those guns.
[49:35] Speaker 2: Ready to make a joke.
[49:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, So and the blood part, like I said, very
[49:38] Speaker 1: little blood. They even almost joke like it's like that's it.
[49:42] Speaker 4: They literally say that. Jeffrey RuSHA looks at the camera
[49:45] Speaker 4: and says, yeah, it's PG.
[49:46] Speaker 1: Thirteen. We can't do more. Yeah, I want to chop her.
[49:50] Speaker 2: Head off because I thought that they were saving her
[49:52] Speaker 2: to like have their way with her when the curse
[49:55] Speaker 2: was lifted. I've looked at it very probably much more dark, Yeah, but.
[50:03] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[50:04] Speaker 4: I mean, Barbosa is also very clear that the very
[50:07] Speaker 4: first thing he's gonna do, after ten plus years of
[50:12] Speaker 4: not eating, not drinking, not sleeping, not feeling, not being
[50:16] Speaker 4: able to enjoy the pleasant company of a woman, first
[50:19] Speaker 4: thing he's doing, he's eating apples.
[50:20] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so you.
[50:22] Speaker 4: Know, and he keeps that apple with him, keep that
[50:25] Speaker 4: hang on him at all times.
[50:26] Speaker 1: As soon as that curse is broken, he's gonna chow
[50:28] Speaker 1: it out.
[50:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the second thing I'm worried about. But this
[50:34] Speaker 2: is where I started having a problem with the whole
[50:36] Speaker 2: curse thing, because it's sort of like now, it's just
[50:42] Speaker 2: everything is motivated by people being unreasonable. Because you've got
[50:47] Speaker 2: you got to Orlando Balloom right there, right right, Like
[50:50] Speaker 2: you have his blood. He can just say, Okay, hold up, guys,
[50:52] Speaker 2: you need my blood and you only need to drop
[50:54] Speaker 2: here's the coin. You guys are free of your curse.
[50:58] Speaker 2: All they want they care about, is to not be
[51:01] Speaker 2: cursed anymore. And all of this could be done right away.
[51:05] Speaker 1: Why would will do that. He hates kindness, he hates pirates,
[51:10] Speaker 1: I know, but he doesn't know that he's going to
[51:12] Speaker 1: become a pirate, right.
[51:14] Speaker 4: Jack Sparrow is telling him all the time, your dad
[51:16] Speaker 4: was a pirate, there's pirate in your blood. At the
[51:18] Speaker 4: beginning of this scene when they get to the grotto,
[51:20] Speaker 4: he's basically like, you free to pirate, stole a ship
[51:24] Speaker 4: and are coming here to find treasure. Treasures not always gold.
[51:27] Speaker 4: Sometimes it's Elizabeth Swan. He's like, you're literally a pirate.
[51:30] Speaker 4: But je Will doesn't want to believe it. So I
[51:33] Speaker 4: don't think he would go out of his way to
[51:35] Speaker 4: help Barbot fair enough.
[51:36] Speaker 2: I guess, But you know that certain point compassion takes over, right,
[51:43] Speaker 2: It's like, why are we escalating? We could de escalate
[51:46] Speaker 2: this and then we go all go our separate ways
[51:49] Speaker 2: and you can enjoy that apple.
[51:50] Speaker 4: But anyways, at the very least he could be like, Okay,
[51:54] Speaker 4: I realize I'm the guy that can and the curse.
[51:57] Speaker 4: Let me end the curse and immediately kill everybody, right,
[52:00] Speaker 4: which is.
[52:01] Speaker 1: You know, is the move that Jack Sparrow pulls off later.
[52:03] Speaker 1: But well, was not that smart. No, it's not in
[52:06] Speaker 1: his butt he doesn't truly want to believe that he is. Yeah,
[52:12] Speaker 1: the son of a pirate? Is a pirate really himself?
[52:14] Speaker 3: Yes he doesn't, he does not. He doesn't have that
[52:17] Speaker 3: scrappiness in where later on when he puts on that
[52:19] Speaker 3: tricorn hat, he could tell he doesn't want to be
[52:23] Speaker 3: part of that pirate life. He wants the prestigious. He
[52:25] Speaker 3: wants to be the commodore.
[52:27] Speaker 1: Wasn't be more of a commodore than a pirate?
[52:29] Speaker 3: Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
[52:31] Speaker 1: Okay, we have a battle of rock between ships here,
[52:34] Speaker 1: crippling the Interceptor. This is when Will learns that you know,
[52:39] Speaker 1: Bootstrap was his father, and he eventually surrenders, threatens to
[52:43] Speaker 1: kill himself unless Elizabeth and the crew are left unharmed.
[52:46] Speaker 1: But we get a big, big ship battle scene here.
[52:50] Speaker 1: What do you think of this one?
[52:51] Speaker 2: Jd oh, it made me want to stop the movie
[52:54] Speaker 2: and go watch Master and Commander. To be honest, so
[52:57] Speaker 2: much fucking better. But this is a fun scene and
[53:00] Speaker 2: there's a lot going on. You got the different phases
[53:03] Speaker 2: of the battle. You got the cannons at first, and
[53:04] Speaker 2: then you got the boarding. Is this where they do
[53:06] Speaker 2: this sort of the hook shot sort of maneuver where
[53:10] Speaker 2: they drop the anchor. Yep, all that shit is just
[53:13] Speaker 2: pure fun, Like, it's great stuff. I loved it.
[53:17] Speaker 1: The Interceptor loads its cannons with basically glass and utensils
[53:22] Speaker 1: and stuff. That pirate Gareth takes the fork to the
[53:26] Speaker 1: to the wooden eye.
[53:27] Speaker 2: That's my favorite gag in the movie. I think, Yeah,
[53:30] Speaker 2: that's funny. It just it looks amazing. It's just that
[53:33] Speaker 2: it's moving around with the forks. Yeah, very well done.
[53:37] Speaker 3: That's true.
[53:38] Speaker 1: Yeah. Any thoughts on the on the battle here the
[53:41] Speaker 1: ship battle.
[53:42] Speaker 4: Yeah, as a guy who loves grappling hooks, I thought
[53:44] Speaker 4: this was awesome.
[53:46] Speaker 1: Grappling hooks used to be everywhere.
[53:48] Speaker 4: Apparently they were popular during the Golden Age of piracy
[53:51] Speaker 4: as well. But I'm with JD like this feels legitimately
[53:54] Speaker 4: like madness. There's fights going on everywhere, people flying this way,
[53:58] Speaker 4: and that some ingenious moves. You kind of have the
[54:01] Speaker 4: feel that Elizabeth is taking on some of Jack's qualities
[54:04] Speaker 4: with like her quick thinking and the way she's able
[54:06] Speaker 4: to get them out of a gem like this coming
[54:09] Speaker 4: up with the hard.
[54:10] Speaker 1: Turn sort of maneuver.
[54:12] Speaker 4: And I also like left this scene feeling like Barbosa.
[54:16] Speaker 4: While he is a good captain, he'd also be a
[54:19] Speaker 4: really good lawyer because he's always like getting one over
[54:22] Speaker 4: on Elizabeth with these closets. He's like, yeah, I said
[54:26] Speaker 4: i'd drop you off and didn't say away. Sucker pulls
[54:30] Speaker 4: this off multiple times. So maybe once they finally break
[54:33] Speaker 4: that curse, he can go into Laar, turn his life around.
[54:36] Speaker 1: Pass the bar at least. Yeah.
[54:38] Speaker 3: Yeah, he says that same line to her like six times.
[54:40] Speaker 3: It feels like yep, but uh yeah, the anchor is
[54:45] Speaker 3: pretty awesome. And watching it with my kids, they're like,
[54:47] Speaker 3: what is happening? How are they turning using that hook mechanism?
[54:51] Speaker 3: And so, yeah, he really gets it. It's a it's
[54:53] Speaker 3: a cool move.
[54:54] Speaker 1: I would say in general, I don't understand how ships
[54:58] Speaker 1: with sales are able to turn and go forward and
[55:00] Speaker 1: choose the direction they want to go.
[55:02] Speaker 3: Like, I don't get that very much, as in what
[55:06] Speaker 3: like win hits the sales exactly.
[55:08] Speaker 4: Yeah, like, I know you're not always having to go forward,
[55:11] Speaker 4: you know the ins and the outs.
[55:16] Speaker 1: You're right, I forgot. There's this whole part where Elizabeth
[55:19] Speaker 1: like is like they're like turning to her for advice.
[55:22] Speaker 1: She's like dropping all these suggestions and then at one
[55:24] Speaker 1: point like, I don't have any more suggestions, crew, like
[55:30] Speaker 1: just the charter of a g Why are you turning
[55:32] Speaker 1: to me?
[55:32] Speaker 3: Well, yeah, the guy without the tongue can't talk.
[55:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that great.
[55:38] Speaker 3: The parrot guy, the parent guy, he's got a parent
[55:40] Speaker 3: because he literally can't talk.
[55:41] Speaker 2: And when Jack Sparrow meets him, we're going back a
[55:44] Speaker 2: little bit.
[55:44] Speaker 3: But Jack Sparrow is just he's reviled by the whole thing,
[55:48] Speaker 3: seeing that tongue. Like, yeah, as you you said, j D,
[55:52] Speaker 3: maybe some of these are just Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp
[55:56] Speaker 3: just add living things. I think he may have just
[55:59] Speaker 3: just did that out the way he wanted to, because
[56:02] Speaker 3: it feels like a lot of these are just natural
[56:04] Speaker 3: Johnny depth kicking ass and yeah, he does it so well.
[56:07] Speaker 1: Did you think the parrot was going to fight the monkey? Ever?
[56:10] Speaker 3: At one point.
[56:13] Speaker 1: Crossed my mind battle and we named the monkey.
[56:18] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[56:21] Speaker 1: Uh so Barbosa imprisons the crew after yeah, after his
[56:25] Speaker 1: little claws here, like you said, uh to uh Will
[56:27] Speaker 1: and Elizabeth and all that, and then he maroons Jack
[56:30] Speaker 1: and Elizabeth on the same island that Jack was previously
[56:34] Speaker 1: exiled to and uh not before Barbosa asks Elizabeth for
[56:38] Speaker 1: his dress back. I'll take that back please, And yeah,
[56:43] Speaker 1: so they end up washed up on this this island here.
[56:46] Speaker 3: When that's when she had to walk the plank and
[56:48] Speaker 3: then she swam to the island.
[56:50] Speaker 2: Yes, that was another line of dialogue that didn't make
[56:52] Speaker 2: any sense. Where she goes it matches your black heart
[56:56] Speaker 2: or something like that. The dress, Yeah, the dress is purple.
[57:01] Speaker 2: So I didn't really I didn't get it.
[57:04] Speaker 3: Unusual the pirates. Everything dark for Pirates is black, I think.
[57:09] Speaker 2: I mean everything goes with black.
[57:10] Speaker 3: I guess.
[57:11] Speaker 1: So, yeah, there's that like in a way he's helping her.
[57:15] Speaker 1: You don't want to try and swim in that heavy
[57:17] Speaker 1: like a heavy ass dress. Yeah, I mean you still
[57:19] Speaker 1: got like long John underwear on your mind. Yeah, a
[57:22] Speaker 1: lot of clothes.
[57:24] Speaker 3: It was a long swim. They didn't show any of it. No,
[57:26] Speaker 3: they there's on an island.
[57:28] Speaker 2: I'm fine with that.
[57:29] Speaker 3: Movie is long enough.
[57:33] Speaker 2: I want to struggle there.
[57:35] Speaker 1: So and we had previously learned that, like or been
[57:39] Speaker 1: told right, like maybe it was Gibbs right and saying
[57:42] Speaker 1: like how Jack got off the island the first time?
[57:45] Speaker 4: Turtles, Yeah, and hair from his back.
[57:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, that was part.
[57:52] Speaker 2: Of his rope.
[57:52] Speaker 1: So you know, it's obviously this little fable here. But
[57:56] Speaker 1: Jack reveals here to Elizabeth when they get on this island. No,
[58:00] Speaker 1: this was like a smuggling cash for rum Runners. They
[58:03] Speaker 1: rescued me after three days because like they always come
[58:06] Speaker 1: by here, and so she's like, oh, okay, well and
[58:09] Speaker 1: then so Jack gets drunk as a skunk here. Harry
[58:13] Speaker 1: definitely hits on Elizabeth, always creeping. Yeah, he was creeping
[58:17] Speaker 1: hard here, but it's part of her plan. Get him
[58:19] Speaker 1: super drunk because he passes out, and then she signals
[58:22] Speaker 1: for help using a giant, giant bonfire really just like
[58:25] Speaker 1: lighting the whole island up, fueled by the rum and
[58:28] Speaker 1: that leads the Royal Navy to come and rescue her.
[58:30] Speaker 1: So island scene.
[58:31] Speaker 4: Smart move, built a big bonfire, can't just wait it out.
[58:36] Speaker 4: How's anybody going to know you're there?
[58:38] Speaker 2: Yeah, totally, yeah.
[58:39] Speaker 4: I guess that's what Jack was thinking, like, yeah, he's like,
[58:41] Speaker 4: I think the rum Runners are we'll come back. But
[58:44] Speaker 4: they go to like the cache ah it, and there's
[58:45] Speaker 4: nothing there. They only find one, so they get ripped.
[58:48] Speaker 4: Jack tells Elizabeth he loves the freedom of being out
[58:52] Speaker 4: on the scenes. Basically, don't you want to come be
[58:54] Speaker 4: my wench? She says no, but you know, she leaves
[58:57] Speaker 4: the door open because she does love the pirate life.
[59:00] Speaker 2: Bad woman.
[59:01] Speaker 1: Yeah that's true, that's true. But the royal maybe comes
[59:03] Speaker 1: to rescue them and she here, Elizabeth agrees to marry
[59:07] Speaker 1: Norrington in order to save Will because Barbosa has him
[59:11] Speaker 1: and they're going back to the grotto. I was wondering
[59:13] Speaker 1: how close are all these things? But these days we're
[59:17] Speaker 1: going between islands here. Yeah, you have to know how
[59:22] Speaker 1: the geography, so I don't know how close they are,
[59:25] Speaker 1: but that's that's what her move is here, this classic
[59:28] Speaker 1: you know, to save Will, she'll have to marry the
[59:31] Speaker 1: bad guy, so to speak of, at least the boring guy.
[59:33] Speaker 2: Yeah in Norrington, Yeah, snorington. I like to tell him,
[59:38] Speaker 2: he look this guy respect to him because he's sort
[59:41] Speaker 2: of duty bound, right, He's not allowing himself to be
[59:45] Speaker 2: you know, Chase the glory of getting the last. The
[59:48] Speaker 2: pitch to from Jack Sparrow is like, hey, it'll be
[59:53] Speaker 2: a nice feather in your cap if you go get
[59:55] Speaker 2: this final the last pirate ship. Basically, he's like no, no, no,
[59:59] Speaker 2: that's I'm not going to do it. It's it's Kieren
[1:00:03] Speaker 2: Nightley's pitch, basically like, Okay, well I'll marry you and
[1:00:07] Speaker 2: we'll call it a wedding gift. But okay, so but anyway,
[1:00:13] Speaker 2: this whole part, like the burning. The shot is my
[1:00:17] Speaker 2: favorite shot in the movie is just when he's sort
[1:00:19] Speaker 2: of far away on the beach. It's Jack Sparrow and
[1:00:22] Speaker 2: then the billowing smoke behind it is incredible and you don't,
[1:00:28] Speaker 2: as to Tray's point earlier, like you don't see this
[1:00:30] Speaker 2: in movies anymore because all that shit would be digital,
[1:00:33] Speaker 2: and maybe the smoke was digital, I don't know, but
[1:00:36] Speaker 2: just being on the beach, it all, it just all
[1:00:38] Speaker 2: looks incredible. I love it.
[1:00:40] Speaker 1: Would you like to be deserted on an island with.
[1:00:44] Speaker 2: Kieren Knightley with a couple of bottles of round? Yes?
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: I would, orn Doug all right, So Jacket Norrington, they
[1:00:55] Speaker 1: concoct a plan here to ambush ambush the pirates at
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: island do Morta, but Jack reveals himself to the pirates
[1:01:02] Speaker 1: and convinces Barbosa to delay lifting the curse until after
[1:01:06] Speaker 1: killing Norrington's men. So this is Jack doing his thing here,
[1:01:09] Speaker 1: sort of talking his way out or sort of like
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: flipping sides again. That's his whole, his whole emmo.
[1:01:15] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll buy you a new hat, a really big one.
[1:01:18] Speaker 4: I was like, that's a nice sweetener in a trade. Yeah,
[1:01:21] Speaker 4: I guess that's a big old hat.
[1:01:22] Speaker 1: And then so this leads to a scene here where
[1:01:25] Speaker 1: we get our our dipshit pirates dressed up as women.
[1:01:30] Speaker 1: They got those little umbrellas and stuff.
[1:01:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, what was the plan of that? That was lost
[1:01:35] Speaker 2: on me.
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: It was a literally an honesty tie in. They're talking
[1:01:39] Speaker 1: about the Trojan horse. They do it. This is just
[1:01:43] Speaker 1: like what the Greek's done at Troy has said in
[1:01:45] Speaker 1: this movie.
[1:01:46] Speaker 3: Yeah, the parasols the canoe earlier.
[1:01:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, but I hear what you're saying. They're like the ideas.
[1:01:53] Speaker 1: They're sneaking up because they're damsels.
[1:01:56] Speaker 2: Right, But the other guys, just like most of the guys,
[1:01:59] Speaker 2: are walking under water, and then they get on the
[1:02:01] Speaker 2: boat way before them.
[1:02:02] Speaker 1: So yeah, maybe just just a distraction, maybe yeah, yeah,
[1:02:07] Speaker 1: just anything to get Rigetty and Pintel wearing dresses pretty much,
[1:02:12] Speaker 1: because Jennie's right, they're pretty covert.
[1:02:14] Speaker 4: Being able to walk underwater. They didn't need the distraction,
[1:02:19] Speaker 4: but I'm glad they did it.
[1:02:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was fun for sure.
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: After Barbosa's crew leaves, Jack frees Will and he attacks Barbosa,
[1:02:29] Speaker 1: having covertly pocketed a medallion to give himself immortality. And
[1:02:36] Speaker 1: I'll admit they got me on this one. I dropped
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: a whoa, whoa Okay, and then oh, yeah, that was slick.
[1:02:44] Speaker 1: That was that was Jack again thinking three steps ahead there.
[1:02:47] Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I like it. A smart move by Jack.
[1:02:50] Speaker 4: I think his skeleton looks great, like the Jack skeleton,
[1:02:54] Speaker 4: Jack skeleton, not Jack Skellington.
[1:02:57] Speaker 1: And then he does that like the coin on his fingerlone.
[1:03:00] Speaker 2: I love that.
[1:03:01] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:03:01] Speaker 2: We haven't really talked about this whole device of being
[1:03:04] Speaker 2: only visible in the moonlight, you know, where we see
[1:03:09] Speaker 2: them as they truly are in the moonlight, which I
[1:03:12] Speaker 2: thought was a very cool device, and it's done very well,
[1:03:15] Speaker 2: like going from shadows into the moonlight and then they
[1:03:18] Speaker 2: turn into it, and then there's the point where they
[1:03:21] Speaker 2: put the bomb in one of the guys and they
[1:03:23] Speaker 2: stick them back in the shadows. All that stuff is great,
[1:03:26] Speaker 2: and it's all born of budget restraints, right, because they
[1:03:30] Speaker 2: didn't want they couldn't have them be skeletons the entire movies,
[1:03:34] Speaker 2: so it's just kind of genius. And then they're like, well,
[1:03:37] Speaker 2: let's just do it at night. It's like it's still
[1:03:39] Speaker 2: going to be too expensive. Okay, well only when the
[1:03:41] Speaker 2: actual moon is shining on them.
[1:03:43] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:03:43] Speaker 2: It's kind of stupid, but also very ingenious, and it
[1:03:46] Speaker 2: actually made the movie a bit cooler because they just
[1:03:49] Speaker 2: keep going morphing in and out of these skeletons, back
[1:03:52] Speaker 2: to regular guys into skeletons. I thought it looked very very.
[1:03:55] Speaker 1: And then you place them in the grotto where there's
[1:03:57] Speaker 1: like the movie coming, they can step in, step out,
[1:04:01] Speaker 1: skeleton man, skeleton man.
[1:04:02] Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought so much of the shadows played well
[1:04:05] Speaker 3: for me, Like when Barbosa is telling this is going back,
[1:04:07] Speaker 3: but when Barbosa is telling Elizabeth about the curse, he's
[1:04:12] Speaker 3: in the dark shadow because his hat is sort of
[1:04:15] Speaker 3: tilted down, and then when he when he breaks out
[1:04:17] Speaker 3: of it, tilts back up and the light.
[1:04:19] Speaker 1: Is on, and there is that like that scene where
[1:04:24] Speaker 1: the slight of hand from Jack where he's like pretending
[1:04:26] Speaker 1: to put all the coins back in right and obviously
[1:04:30] Speaker 1: pockets that last one. Yeah, you want to make sure
[1:04:35] Speaker 1: you take it right, pay attention. So, yeah, Elizabeth frees
[1:04:41] Speaker 1: Jack's crew on the Pearl, but they refuse to help
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: and sail away without her. So Jack shoots Barbosa just
[1:04:49] Speaker 1: as Will returns his and Jack's medallions to the chest
[1:04:52] Speaker 1: with their blood, breaking the curse and killing Barbosa just
[1:04:54] Speaker 1: perfectly timed. You got an issue with this?
[1:04:58] Speaker 2: Come on? He shoots him. Yeah, and then he drops
[1:05:02] Speaker 2: the climb. They've been stabbed multiple times, Like, like, it
[1:05:07] Speaker 2: doesn't I don't know why they did it this way. Yeah,
[1:05:10] Speaker 2: it doesn't do.
[1:05:10] Speaker 3: The same thing. I said the same thing to Danielle.
[1:05:13] Speaker 3: It's not it's not timed well, she said, wow, yeah.
[1:05:19] Speaker 2: Why why didn't they just exactly?
[1:05:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, the remaining pirates are immediately defeated by the Navy.
[1:05:27] Speaker 1: But okay, your thoughts here way in on what these
[1:05:30] Speaker 1: guys said.
[1:05:30] Speaker 4: I think this is awesome. I love this scene. I
[1:05:32] Speaker 4: like like how JD's saying. As Jack and Barbosa are fighting,
[1:05:36] Speaker 4: They're like jumping and spinning and going all over the grotto,
[1:05:39] Speaker 4: going in and out of shadow and moonlight, and they're
[1:05:43] Speaker 4: switching from human to skeleton to human to skeleton.
[1:05:46] Speaker 1: It looks so so cool.
[1:05:47] Speaker 4: We've had this entire low key storyline, the entire time
[1:05:51] Speaker 4: of Jack has one single shot in his pistol. He
[1:05:55] Speaker 4: doesn't have extra bullets, he doesn't have extra powder. He's
[1:05:58] Speaker 4: got one thing. He's been saving it for a Barbarolo
[1:06:00] Speaker 4: said he shoots in. Barbosa says he blew it. Buddy,
[1:06:03] Speaker 4: You've been saying for ten years he didn't blow it.
[1:06:05] Speaker 1: And you guys want to see Orlando Bloom drop it
[1:06:09] Speaker 1: in before that reveal? Are you crazy? Watch a movie? Geez?
[1:06:14] Speaker 4: Isn't it better to think for just a split second
[1:06:17] Speaker 4: Elizabeth got shot only to find out that our hero
[1:06:20] Speaker 4: came out on top.
[1:06:21] Speaker 1: That's how it's gotten Maybe you just wanted, like a survivor,
[1:06:24] Speaker 1: like flashback.
[1:06:25] Speaker 2: To uh, sure it.
[1:06:26] Speaker 1: It's just showing it being dropped in ten minutes prior
[1:06:30] Speaker 1: five minutes prior.
[1:06:31] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:06:33] Speaker 1: I will say, at this point in the movie, I
[1:06:34] Speaker 1: was like, well, the movie's over, and then I'm like,
[1:06:37] Speaker 1: hold on, hold on, what the hell it's like twenty
[1:06:39] Speaker 1: three minutes possibly happens here? Any more thoughts on on
[1:06:44] Speaker 1: the scene here in Barbosa's death, because there are there's
[1:06:47] Speaker 1: a little more movie like, Yeah.
[1:06:48] Speaker 2: Let's go.
[1:06:48] Speaker 1: Well, we go back to Port Royal because Jack's got
[1:06:50] Speaker 1: to be hung for his crimes. This guy, man, this
[1:06:53] Speaker 1: guy just took down the one of the most no
[1:06:55] Speaker 1: doubt legendary pirates out there, a skeleton pirate at that.
[1:06:58] Speaker 2: But I mean that is one of them unspoken tragedies
[1:07:02] Speaker 2: of this because all those guys would be hung right
[1:07:04] Speaker 2: like all the pirates and Derry are they're no longer cursed,
[1:07:08] Speaker 2: but immediately would be sentenced to hang.
[1:07:12] Speaker 1: I think, yeah, probably, so they literally can't win.
[1:07:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Sad poured a little rum for these guys.
[1:07:22] Speaker 1: But okay, so Jack's going to be hung, but Will
[1:07:24] Speaker 1: declares his love to Elizabeth and then obviously helps rescue Jack. Here,
[1:07:29] Speaker 1: nice sword throw from Will to help Jack when you
[1:07:33] Speaker 1: know he's going to be hung. There another callback Yeah yeah,
[1:07:37] Speaker 1: and he stands on it, so he's not completely like choking.
[1:07:41] Speaker 3: So many good lines as yeah, they're about to hang him,
[1:07:45] Speaker 3: and they call him, they call he's he's about to
[1:07:47] Speaker 3: be hung, and they call him Jack Sparrow and he
[1:07:50] Speaker 3: corrects them as he's about to be hung.
[1:07:52] Speaker 2: It's Captain Jack Sparrow.
[1:07:54] Speaker 3: Uh, and he laughs when he's uh. They say that
[1:07:58] Speaker 3: he's a British clerical. He impersonates a British cleric or something.
[1:08:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, one of the charges I can't remember, a British cleric,
[1:08:07] Speaker 2: like a priest or something. Yeah, and he just laughs.
[1:08:15] Speaker 1: There's funny, uh in this big scene where he's saving
[1:08:18] Speaker 1: him hilariously pointless front flip three sixty from Turner, no
[1:08:24] Speaker 1: reason why. They were like, wow, cool, just jump off that.
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: I totally watch. It's like, why did you do that?
[1:08:32] Speaker 2: This whole sequence felt like a ride, like this was
[1:08:35] Speaker 2: the three PM showing at Canada's Wonderland Pirate Show with
[1:08:39] Speaker 2: the with the rope and it's all non lethal force
[1:08:44] Speaker 2: trying to escape because he can't kill any of the
[1:08:46] Speaker 2: guys otherwise you're they're never gonna let you get away. Yeah,
[1:08:50] Speaker 2: but it felt so silly and dumb. But whatever.
[1:08:56] Speaker 1: Jack and Will are surrounded by Norrington's soldiers here, but
[1:09:00] Speaker 1: now Elizabeth stands with Will, forcing Governor Swan to order
[1:09:05] Speaker 1: the soldiers, hey stand down, stand down, and Jack falls
[1:09:11] Speaker 1: into the sea, falls into the water, and he's picked
[1:09:16] Speaker 1: up by the Black Pearl. So he's got his his
[1:09:19] Speaker 1: ship back. Though I thought that ship was I thought
[1:09:22] Speaker 1: one of these big ships was supposed to go to
[1:09:23] Speaker 1: Anna Marie a deal. It's to come. We're we don't
[1:09:31] Speaker 1: really know where the Dauntless and the Interceptor are.
[1:09:33] Speaker 2: No, no, but doesn't the interceptor. It sort of gets destroyed, right.
[1:09:38] Speaker 1: I thought I must. Norrington accepts that Elizabeth loves Will
[1:09:46] Speaker 1: and decides to give Jack a head start before pursuing him,
[1:09:49] Speaker 1: and Governor swan here gives his blessing to Will and
[1:09:52] Speaker 1: Elizabeth while Jack becomes, as I said, the Captain of
[1:09:55] Speaker 1: the Pearl once again. And that is your movie. Well,
[1:09:59] Speaker 1: hold on, hold on, hold on post credits scene.
[1:10:02] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I didn't know there was one.
[1:10:05] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, boy, Barbosa's pet monkey climbs onto the chest
[1:10:10] Speaker 1: of gold in the cave on Isla Morta and takes
[1:10:13] Speaker 1: a coin from it, becoming undead once more. Yeah, you
[1:10:20] Speaker 1: didn't know that.
[1:10:20] Speaker 2: I did not know that.
[1:10:22] Speaker 1: I'm gonna stick around watch all those things. So yeah,
[1:10:27] Speaker 1: that's where we are, the pet monkey.
[1:10:29] Speaker 3: Damn.
[1:10:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, back into the undead.
[1:10:32] Speaker 3: I thought we only had one monkey scene, a real
[1:10:35] Speaker 3: monkey scene. Surprising, So there it is.
[1:10:38] Speaker 1: There it is. Wow, Pirates of the Caribbean.
[1:10:43] Speaker 3: Uh curse, everyone's entertained. Everyone listening to this show. Yeah,
[1:10:51] Speaker 3: about a movie that we all watched and we were
[1:10:54] Speaker 3: all entertained.
[1:10:54] Speaker 1: Okay, let me ask you for you your favorite scene,
[1:10:57] Speaker 1: favorite scene for the movie.
[1:10:59] Speaker 2: Good question, putting you on the spot a little bit.
[1:11:01] Speaker 3: There's too many. I'm looking at my list of funny things,
[1:11:06] Speaker 3: of so many good things.
[1:11:09] Speaker 2: Hmm, somebody else answer first, what do you got?
[1:11:15] Speaker 4: A couple of my favorite scenes are like Jack's first
[1:11:18] Speaker 4: escape after he first gets to Port Royal, he saves Elizabeth,
[1:11:23] Speaker 4: and this is when like Norrington and Daddy have swords
[1:11:28] Speaker 4: and guns drawn on them and Elizabeth's like, you can't,
[1:11:30] Speaker 4: you can't kill and me saved me. But then instantly
[1:11:32] Speaker 4: Jack flips back to like I'm a pirate, bit right,
[1:11:35] Speaker 4: you can't take the pirate out of the man. I
[1:11:37] Speaker 4: love when the pirates first get to Port Royal, Like
[1:11:41] Speaker 4: I just love the like the chaos of them invading,
[1:11:43] Speaker 4: trying to find Elizabeth, the Hello Poppet of it all,
[1:11:46] Speaker 4: of course, and then I do like the battle between
[1:11:49] Speaker 4: the Black Pearl and the Interceptor as well.
[1:11:51] Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, that's my favorite battle. My favorite scene in
[1:11:54] Speaker 2: the movie is Jeffrey Rush the exposition of talking about
[1:11:58] Speaker 2: the King Cursed. That was great, and any any exteriors
[1:12:04] Speaker 2: in Port Royal and the beach where they were. I
[1:12:09] Speaker 2: just i'd love the look of it.
[1:12:11] Speaker 1: You just want to go on vacation.
[1:12:12] Speaker 2: I just want to vacation.
[1:12:16] Speaker 1: Beaches are awesome.
[1:12:19] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Barbosa explaining the curse that his home.
[1:12:23] Speaker 3: I mean Jack Sparrows just introduction that stops for me
[1:12:28] Speaker 3: for sure. That's the one that's emblazoned in my brain.
[1:12:31] Speaker 1: Dumbest scene.
[1:12:33] Speaker 4: I don't like this sword fight and the thing in
[1:12:36] Speaker 4: the s Yeah, I'm not a huge fan, Okay, Like
[1:12:39] Speaker 4: I think the first hour of this movie is awesome,
[1:12:42] Speaker 4: like ten to ten almost except for that not like
[1:12:45] Speaker 4: that's a little too long.
[1:12:46] Speaker 1: But it's also a pirate movie like you Gotta Have.
[1:12:49] Speaker 2: Yes, Yes, yeah I liked it.
[1:12:54] Speaker 1: What about you that I liked?
[1:12:55] Speaker 3: I like the audio and.
[1:12:56] Speaker 1: Yeah maybe there wasn't one.
[1:12:59] Speaker 2: No, the whole movie was dumb. But what was the
[1:13:04] Speaker 2: dumbest I guess Jonathan Price was his name again? Teddy
[1:13:10] Speaker 2: Weather be Weather be governor, whether be Swan fighting over
[1:13:15] Speaker 2: his wig? You know what I mean, Like the bony
[1:13:19] Speaker 2: hand comes in snatches his wig and he's just will
[1:13:22] Speaker 2: not let go wig. I thought that was stupid and
[1:13:25] Speaker 2: speaking of his wig. In the beginning of the movie,
[1:13:28] Speaker 2: he's got a brown wig, and then I guess to
[1:13:30] Speaker 2: show to help show the passage of time, his his
[1:13:33] Speaker 2: wig is now gray. Like why would you get a
[1:13:36] Speaker 2: gray wig? You know what I mean?
[1:13:39] Speaker 1: I assumed it had was like part of a promotion.
[1:13:42] Speaker 1: I don't know why.
[1:13:43] Speaker 4: Interesting because Norrington is dark haired in that first scene
[1:13:46] Speaker 4: as well.
[1:13:46] Speaker 2: Yes, he gets a white wig, right, maybe maybe white
[1:13:50] Speaker 2: wigs became more in fashion, but Jonathan's is or Weatherby's is,
[1:13:55] Speaker 2: like it's gray. It's not right, that's true, but it's
[1:13:58] Speaker 2: exactly the same style.
[1:14:00] Speaker 1: They just want to make it clear that he's older,
[1:14:03] Speaker 1: and yeah, I guess, yeah, eight years. An age gap
[1:14:07] Speaker 1: between Norrington and Elizabeth goes on big time, big time.
[1:14:14] Speaker 3: Right in the first seat, it's clear, yeah, at least
[1:14:20] Speaker 3: thirty at least.
[1:14:24] Speaker 4: Yeah, who knows. I mean, I didn't think it was Norrington.
[1:14:27] Speaker 4: Maybe in the beginning he's like thirty years old and
[1:14:29] Speaker 4: she seems like she's like ten. Yeah, and at the oldest,
[1:14:32] Speaker 4: that's when the age gap really sticks out. And then
[1:14:34] Speaker 4: when they're both adults, like it seems like there's not
[1:14:36] Speaker 4: as much of an age gap.
[1:14:37] Speaker 1: But we saw them when they were young. Yeah, Norrington
[1:14:40] Speaker 1: didn't really age that much when I think about it. Nah,
[1:14:44] Speaker 1: kind of amazing, not on sea all the time. Yeah,
[1:14:46] Speaker 1: he's he's super Well you're a big hat though.
[1:14:48] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:14:49] Speaker 1: Good protection. Yeah, a lot of SPF fifty on there. Yeah,
[1:14:52] Speaker 1: maybe it's that the dumb but I did laugh when
[1:14:55] Speaker 1: Barbosa is killed at the at the end there and
[1:14:59] Speaker 1: the green apple this suddenly falls out of his hands,
[1:15:02] Speaker 1: Like where was this apple? The entire sword fight, you
[1:15:05] Speaker 1: just had Jack Sparrow Like I laughed at it, but like, okay,
[1:15:09] Speaker 1: we get it, we get it. The guy just really
[1:15:10] Speaker 1: wants an apple. Any other random notes and observations from
[1:15:15] Speaker 1: from the Curse of the Black Pearl.
[1:15:17] Speaker 2: I hated that. I know that they needed it as
[1:15:20] Speaker 2: a device later on, But when they fill up that
[1:15:24] Speaker 2: pan of coal and put it under Kira Knightley's mattress.
[1:15:29] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we're in the Caribbean, Like, how fucking cold
[1:15:34] Speaker 2: is it?
[1:15:34] Speaker 1: Good point? Great call, good point. I hadn't thought of that,
[1:15:37] Speaker 1: but you know, I mean she uses it as a weapon.
[1:15:39] Speaker 1: She does, yeah, a couple of times.
[1:15:41] Speaker 2: And then also you know that first battle when the
[1:15:45] Speaker 2: when Barbosa's guys are are raiding the town. You know,
[1:15:50] Speaker 2: they're screaming in pain and all this, like they're not
[1:15:53] Speaker 2: We find out later that they're not supposed to feel anything.
[1:15:56] Speaker 2: But you know, Mackenzie Crook gets like burned by the
[1:15:59] Speaker 2: coal and stuff. He wouldn't you wouldn't feel any of this.
[1:16:03] Speaker 2: So that was sort of an intransistent.
[1:16:06] Speaker 1: Sort of incredible Now that you say this that we
[1:16:08] Speaker 1: never had a scene and I guess I'm thinking about
[1:16:11] Speaker 1: the hand and the drawer and all that. We never
[1:16:12] Speaker 1: saw a scene where like skeleton pirate blown up, but
[1:16:17] Speaker 1: then all the pieces, all the bones come back together.
[1:16:21] Speaker 2: I see that.
[1:16:22] Speaker 4: It's a good point because we do see the hand
[1:16:24] Speaker 4: as like moving around on its own, so they can move.
[1:16:28] Speaker 1: I mean, you can't kill them. I guess you can
[1:16:30] Speaker 1: blow them up, but they could just the pieces are
[1:16:31] Speaker 1: going to come back together, classic skeleton style. Yes, I guess,
[1:16:35] Speaker 1: so let me yeah, this little I guess, uh, not
[1:16:39] Speaker 1: trivia or anything like that. But the Curse of the
[1:16:41] Speaker 1: Black Pearl was added as a subtitle. Did you guys
[1:16:44] Speaker 1: read this in the event that the film proved successful
[1:16:46] Speaker 1: enough to war in a sequel, So Pirates of the Caribbean,
[1:16:49] Speaker 1: the Curse of the Black Pearl. Now, the director, he
[1:16:52] Speaker 1: protested the change, and he thought he had a great
[1:16:55] Speaker 1: point here. He's like, the Aztec Gold is cursed the ship.
[1:17:00] Speaker 1: It's true. I'm like, yeah, you're right, that's true. Yeah,
[1:17:05] Speaker 1: But apparently Michael Eisner of you know, Disney was like,
[1:17:08] Speaker 1: he refused to back down. Curse of the Black Pearl
[1:17:11] Speaker 1: remained as a very small subtitle I guess on like
[1:17:14] Speaker 1: movie posters and stuff like that, and he was right
[1:17:16] Speaker 1: that they would make more.
[1:17:17] Speaker 3: So it was the discussion that he wanted a different.
[1:17:21] Speaker 1: He didn't want any I don't think at all. But
[1:17:23] Speaker 1: then he was like, and if you're gonna, why would
[1:17:25] Speaker 1: we call it the Curse of the Black Pearl. That's
[1:17:26] Speaker 1: not the curse the Curse of the Aztec Gold. I mean,
[1:17:31] Speaker 1: you definitely could call it that if you.
[1:17:33] Speaker 2: Wanted, totally, but I mean, ultimate was it? Eisner? Michael, Yeah,
[1:17:38] Speaker 2: I mean it was kind of right.
[1:17:40] Speaker 1: It definitely was.
[1:17:40] Speaker 2: I didn't realize that until you just pointed it out.
[1:17:43] Speaker 2: It's not the Black Pearl is not cursed. I don't know,
[1:17:46] Speaker 2: it looks cursed.
[1:17:47] Speaker 1: Yeah, it looks cursed. You're right, but yeah, that's true.
[1:17:51] Speaker 1: It's always like weather and stuff. Yeah, I don't know.
[1:17:57] Speaker 1: I don't know what else are the else?
[1:18:02] Speaker 4: Let us off with a huzzah at the beginning. That
[1:18:05] Speaker 4: to me is like the let's go of its day. Yeah,
[1:18:08] Speaker 4: back then people just say huzza. Can imagine the piracy.
[1:18:12] Speaker 1: At the end, they're like a cheers in with their sabers.
[1:18:16] Speaker 2: Let's go.
[1:18:18] Speaker 4: And then do you guys buy like the the love
[1:18:22] Speaker 4: chemistry love affair between Will and Elizabeth because at the end,
[1:18:28] Speaker 4: like Jack shoots Barbosa, they're all close to you got
[1:18:32] Speaker 4: each other.
[1:18:33] Speaker 1: And I'm watching the movie and.
[1:18:34] Speaker 4: I go, Frank, kiss, I don't even kiss. Jack evens
[1:18:38] Speaker 4: like you missed the opportune moment.
[1:18:40] Speaker 1: Jack knows.
[1:18:41] Speaker 4: They finally get their smooch a little bit later on
[1:18:43] Speaker 4: at the hanging, But I felt like Will was dropping
[1:18:48] Speaker 4: the ball man.
[1:18:48] Speaker 1: He had a lot of kiss chances here, and she's
[1:18:50] Speaker 1: ready for it. You could tell she wanted to kiss.
[1:18:53] Speaker 1: She's more into him than he is into her. I
[1:18:55] Speaker 1: think so.
[1:18:56] Speaker 4: And if Will was gonna like, if Will's like, I'm
[1:18:59] Speaker 4: a pirate, they probably get married immediately.
[1:19:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what she wants. Yeah, I think that's why
[1:19:04] Speaker 1: she falls in love with him in the first place.
[1:19:05] Speaker 1: When he's a boy. He's like, damn, I think he's
[1:19:08] Speaker 1: a pirate. A pirate.
[1:19:12] Speaker 3: Jack is the one who really has her, you know,
[1:19:14] Speaker 3: because he's a pirate.
[1:19:15] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:19:16] Speaker 3: You know, it's like sort of what Jad was implying
[1:19:18] Speaker 3: earlier on Johnny just outdes Orlando. He's the guy, He's
[1:19:27] Speaker 3: the guy we.
[1:19:28] Speaker 1: We missed out on one pirate in particular. Do you
[1:19:32] Speaker 1: guys see that? Sharon Osbourne revealed that Ozzy Osbourne was
[1:19:35] Speaker 1: offered a chance to audition for a role in Pirates
[1:19:38] Speaker 1: of the Caribbean. Wow, and he turned it down and
[1:19:41] Speaker 1: like she really regrets it. I guess this is kind
[1:19:43] Speaker 1: of right of the perfect time.
[1:19:46] Speaker 2: It would have been very distracting pirate.
[1:19:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, wouldn't have been distracted part of the ship. Yeah.
[1:19:56] Speaker 1: And then the word the word I learned I'm gonna
[1:19:58] Speaker 1: I'm gonna play it here. Okay, all right, I had
[1:20:00] Speaker 1: never heard of this word, but I'm also a dumb
[1:20:02] Speaker 1: dumb so here it is.
[1:20:05] Speaker 2: Ecumenically. Ecumenically ecumenetically is said in this move yes by
[1:20:10] Speaker 2: Jeffrey Rush.
[1:20:11] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:20:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, what does it mean?
[1:20:14] Speaker 1: Uh? It's well, I probably more this definition worldwide or
[1:20:18] Speaker 1: general and extent influencer application. So like a worldwide perspective.
[1:20:23] Speaker 1: I think it is how he's using it. Also, there's
[1:20:25] Speaker 1: a like more of a representing a whole of the
[1:20:28] Speaker 1: body of churches. Yes, so promoting or trending toward Christian
[1:20:34] Speaker 1: Christian unity. But I think he's using it more as
[1:20:36] Speaker 1: the latter. But anyway, I had never heard that word,
[1:20:38] Speaker 1: and I was like, you just dropped that.
[1:20:40] Speaker 4: In this Also, like when Jack call is talking to Will,
[1:20:48] Speaker 4: Will's like trying to break him out of jail, trying
[1:20:51] Speaker 4: to get him on board, and that's when Jack calls
[1:20:54] Speaker 4: Elizabeth Will's Bonnie Lass. I like, yeah, Bonnie Lass.
[1:21:03] Speaker 3: The line about women, the only line about women that
[1:21:06] Speaker 3: I really liked from this movie is it's more like
[1:21:08] Speaker 3: the beats of Jack Sparrow's line, because it's when Will
[1:21:10] Speaker 3: is looking for Elizabeth. He goes, where's Elizabeth and Jack replies,
[1:21:13] Speaker 3: She's safe, just like I promised. She's all set to
[1:21:16] Speaker 3: Mary Norrington, just like she promised, and you get to
[1:21:19] Speaker 3: die for her, just like you promised. So we're all
[1:21:22] Speaker 3: men of our word, really, except for, of course, Elizabeth,
[1:21:25] Speaker 3: who's in fact a woman.
[1:21:29] Speaker 1: Clify Rotten Tomatoes it likes this movie seventy nine percent
[1:21:35] Speaker 1: Tomato Meter from the critics decent number there, so you
[1:21:39] Speaker 1: know eighty percent. Let's call it eighty six percent popcorn Meter.
[1:21:42] Speaker 1: Two hundred and fifty thousand plus fans submitted reviews, so
[1:21:45] Speaker 1: overall very well liked. Roger Ebert gave Curse Here three
[1:21:49] Speaker 1: out of four stars. Let me read you a few
[1:21:51] Speaker 1: things he said about this movie. Quote, It's fun at
[1:21:54] Speaker 1: first to see a pirate sword fight, but eventually it
[1:21:56] Speaker 1: gets to the point where the sword clashing, yard darm swinging,
[1:22:00] Speaker 1: and timber shivering get repetitive. I agree with that. I
[1:22:04] Speaker 1: also lost count of how many times Jack Sparrow is helpless,
[1:22:06] Speaker 1: captive of both the British and the Pirates, and escapes
[1:22:09] Speaker 1: from the chains brig News Island. It happens a lot.
[1:22:15] Speaker 1: The movie made me grin at times and savor the
[1:22:18] Speaker 1: daffy plot and enjoy the way depth and Rush fearlessly
[1:22:21] Speaker 1: provide performances that seem nourished by deep wells of nuttiness.
[1:22:25] Speaker 1: He was big on these guys basically carried this movie,
[1:22:29] Speaker 1: which probably.
[1:22:30] Speaker 3: True deep wells of nuttiness.
[1:22:32] Speaker 1: And then he said that just made me laugh just
[1:22:35] Speaker 1: thinking of Roder Eber going man, I could have used
[1:22:37] Speaker 1: more of this. There's a shortage of eye patches. It's
[1:22:41] Speaker 1: a great point.
[1:22:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, very no peg legs, zero peg legs.
[1:22:45] Speaker 1: No cans. Yeah, he did say shortage of eye patches
[1:22:50] Speaker 1: and hooks. He said that here you go, and even
[1:22:53] Speaker 1: the parrot doesn't have that big a role. Yeah, like
[1:22:55] Speaker 1: we we get the parrot because of the tongue out
[1:22:57] Speaker 1: of the guy's cut out of his mouth, but not
[1:22:59] Speaker 1: a lot.
[1:23:00] Speaker 2: I can't even think of an eye patch.
[1:23:02] Speaker 1: I don't know if there is one.
[1:23:03] Speaker 2: You can't.
[1:23:05] Speaker 3: I can't put an eye patch on the Wooden Night.
[1:23:06] Speaker 3: Then you wouldn't get the stab and the rolling nine.
[1:23:10] Speaker 1: So that's what Roger. You generally like more eye patches. Okay,
[1:23:14] Speaker 1: So on a scale of one to ten, you know,
[1:23:16] Speaker 1: one being this movie is got awful and ten being
[1:23:19] Speaker 1: it's one of the best of all times, how would
[1:23:21] Speaker 1: you rank the Curse of the Black Pearl nine? Okay, wow, okay.
[1:23:26] Speaker 3: Of course long, But it's just it's it's right at
[1:23:30] Speaker 3: the end of it's time where it could have been offensive,
[1:23:33] Speaker 3: you know a few years after that. But yeah, I
[1:23:36] Speaker 3: just I just yearned for the days of offensiveness, right,
[1:23:42] Speaker 3: you know, this is an O three just feels like
[1:23:45] Speaker 3: the right time. But anyway, obviously wronged.
[1:23:47] Speaker 1: By this movie.
[1:23:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, of course.
[1:23:49] Speaker 1: Okay, nine, that's pretty good where you're going.
[1:23:52] Speaker 4: I'm like an eight hundred out of eight hundred and
[1:23:54] Speaker 4: eighty two gold coins. It sounds like a bottom nine
[1:23:58] Speaker 4: as well. Yeah, I really like this. I think it's great.
[1:24:01] Speaker 4: I think it's entertaining the entire way through. I think
[1:24:03] Speaker 4: you could definitely almost end the movie at the first
[1:24:07] Speaker 4: Islader Muaerte scene, like you're saying, JD. Like you could
[1:24:10] Speaker 4: have the climactic scene where Jack shoots Barbosa. You could
[1:24:16] Speaker 4: have that scene which takes place there. You could have
[1:24:18] Speaker 4: it there. You're losing them the Black Pearl versus the Interceptor.
[1:24:20] Speaker 4: Maybe there's a way to get it in. But Ebert's right, like,
[1:24:24] Speaker 4: this feels like a great ninety minute movie that's two
[1:24:26] Speaker 4: and a half hours.
[1:24:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. But I'm in on it. I like it.
[1:24:31] Speaker 4: I'm charmed by Sparrow. I think Barbosa is awesome in
[1:24:35] Speaker 4: this one.
[1:24:36] Speaker 1: It's just a hit for me. Okay, so we'll call
[1:24:38] Speaker 1: it nine, JD.
[1:24:40] Speaker 2: Interesting. I think I'm going to six on this, Okay,
[1:24:44] Speaker 2: because I did like it. I thought Johnny Depp was great,
[1:24:48] Speaker 2: Jeffrey Rush is great, the whole cast is great. Let's
[1:24:51] Speaker 2: be honest. But I did find it. And I don't
[1:24:55] Speaker 2: care about movies being too long. But what I do
[1:24:58] Speaker 2: care about is whether I want a movie to end
[1:25:01] Speaker 2: or not want it to end, you know, like I'm
[1:25:03] Speaker 2: loving this is three hours. I still want more. I've
[1:25:07] Speaker 2: been there before. This is not that movie. I could
[1:25:10] Speaker 2: not wait for it to be over.
[1:25:13] Speaker 1: I'll admit I took some breaks and watching this.
[1:25:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, I should have done that.
[1:25:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, it actually worked. Well, It's like, oh, I'll come back,
[1:25:20] Speaker 1: pick a back up.
[1:25:21] Speaker 2: I do find it very tedious that as to Tray's point,
[1:25:24] Speaker 2: like we go to that to the cave with the treasure,
[1:25:27] Speaker 2: and we go through the whole ritual and then we
[1:25:30] Speaker 2: have to do it again like that, that part of
[1:25:32] Speaker 2: it is is just so sloggy to me, and I
[1:25:37] Speaker 2: thought it generally is just a silly movie. And again
[1:25:41] Speaker 2: it made me. When a movie wants me to it
[1:25:43] Speaker 2: makes me want to watch a different movie. Master and
[1:25:46] Speaker 2: Commander of the same year. Then I can't. I can't
[1:25:49] Speaker 2: go over six. But okay, you know it's fine, it's fun.
[1:25:53] Speaker 2: It's a fun movie.
[1:25:54] Speaker 1: Okay, I'm closer to you, JD. I'll give it a seven.
[1:25:58] Speaker 1: And this is both a compliment and a diss. This
[1:26:01] Speaker 1: is be a great airplane movie. Yeah, like the perfect
[1:26:05] Speaker 1: airplane movie. To me, first off, you want it long.
[1:26:08] Speaker 1: If you got a long flight, this train killed a
[1:26:10] Speaker 1: couple hours, sat out another hour. Then sure, you know
[1:26:13] Speaker 1: it's entertaining enough. It is silly, it's goofy, but incredible performances.
[1:26:17] Speaker 1: But there's times where you're like, maybe I'm a little
[1:26:19] Speaker 1: tuned out. Oh hold on, let me get a Yeah,
[1:26:22] Speaker 1: I'll take the biscuits. Yeah, I don't need to be
[1:26:25] Speaker 1: paying attention, you know what I mean.
[1:26:26] Speaker 2: That's you don't even bother pausing it exactly.
[1:26:30] Speaker 1: I slip off the headphones. I'll take a ginger relt
[1:26:34] Speaker 1: so to me, like, again, that's a bit of a diss,
[1:26:37] Speaker 1: but also it's like good for an airplane. So I'll
[1:26:40] Speaker 1: give it a seven overall close to eight, but I'll
[1:26:43] Speaker 1: go seven in the end.
[1:26:45] Speaker 3: I'm a little worried about your take on Dead's Man's Chest.
[1:26:49] Speaker 2: Dead Man's Chest coming up.
[1:26:52] Speaker 1: I'm nervous you're going six on the first one here. Yeah,
[1:26:55] Speaker 1: you might be running. You might go negative numbers. The
[1:26:58] Speaker 1: sounds of it. I don't know.
[1:26:59] Speaker 2: I can't be that bad.
[1:27:00] Speaker 1: Find out.
[1:27:00] Speaker 3: We'll find out yet, I don't know. If you want
[1:27:05] Speaker 3: to plow, if you want to go, you know, just
[1:27:07] Speaker 3: one sitting JD.
[1:27:09] Speaker 1: You want to go to get a quick flight to
[1:27:11] Speaker 1: Paris or something like that. The whole series, the whole series.
[1:27:20] Speaker 3: Okay, so that's take a break just to have a
[1:27:22] Speaker 3: connector flight get back on. It's going to fill both
[1:27:24] Speaker 3: your flights.
[1:27:25] Speaker 1: So the Curse of the Black Pearl, that's what we
[1:27:27] Speaker 1: think some nine A six from JD. Seven for me,
[1:27:29] Speaker 1: let's hear from you, everybody. What do you think of
[1:27:32] Speaker 1: this one? How would you rank it on a scale
[1:27:34] Speaker 1: of one to ten? Obviously, as we move forward here,
[1:27:37] Speaker 1: we'll put them in order, we'll have to come to
[1:27:39] Speaker 1: a collective there of how we'll rank them all, because
[1:27:41] Speaker 1: we've got four more left to do. Every one of
[1:27:43] Speaker 1: these drop in every Friday here for the next couple
[1:27:46] Speaker 1: of weeks. Two thousand and six is Pirates of the Caribbean.
[1:27:49] Speaker 1: Dead Man's Chest is up next. Does anyone want to
[1:27:54] Speaker 1: you want to tease us with anything? I know you've okay,
[1:27:58] Speaker 1: yes I have.
[1:27:59] Speaker 4: I would say that this movie while it is a
[1:28:02] Speaker 4: pirates movie.
[1:28:04] Speaker 1: It's also a zombie movie. Okay, right, okay, yes.
[1:28:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, the.
[1:28:10] Speaker 1: Second one it's a pirate movie, but it's also a
[1:28:12] Speaker 1: monster movie. Okay, okay, interesting, interesting, all right?
[1:28:17] Speaker 2: I mean I prefer monsters to zombies.
[1:28:20] Speaker 1: Then you might be very excited get that man's chest.
