[0:13] Speaker 1: Are you ready for the booty boys? It's the return
[0:17] Speaker 1: of the no dunk summer podcast series where we're breaking
[0:20] Speaker 1: down every movie from the pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Today,
[0:24] Speaker 1: we tackle the third installment at world's end. I'm Jay Skeets,
[0:29] Speaker 1: aboard the HMS Classic Factory, and alongside me, he knows
[0:33] Speaker 1: dying is the day worth living for.
[0:35] Speaker 2: Tass Mellis. Ain't that the truth. Feels like I died
[0:38] Speaker 2: multiple times watching this one.
[0:40] Speaker 1: Next to him. He loves peanuts more than Jack Sparrow.
[0:44] Speaker 1: It's Trey Kirby.
[0:45] Speaker 3: Hello, puppet.
[0:47] Speaker 2: Hello, puppet.
[0:49] Speaker 1: And last but not least, the captain of this podcast ship,
[0:52] Speaker 1: super producer JD.
[0:53] Speaker 4: Hello.
[0:54] Speaker 3: There he is.
[0:55] Speaker 2: Here we are.
[0:55] Speaker 1: If you're a fan of Booty Boys, hit the like button. Subscribe.
[0:59] Speaker 1: Five star ratings and reviews. I thought we could start
[1:03] Speaker 1: today's Booty Boys with a joke from No Dunks fan
[1:06] Speaker 1: James Beard.
[1:08] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:08] Speaker 1: Ay, James Beard writing in. What's a pirate's favorite letter
[1:12] Speaker 1: of the alphabet? No, matey, it's the sea. Thanks, James.
[1:20] Speaker 1: Way to get us started here. All right, Pirates of
[1:21] Speaker 1: the Caribbean at World's End. It's a long one. Released
[1:27] Speaker 1: in May 2007, so a year after the last Pirates
[1:32] Speaker 1: of the Caribbean, a production budget of $ 300 million, the
[1:37] Speaker 1: most expensive film ever made at the time of its release.
[1:43] Speaker 1: And I'll be honest, you can tell.
[1:45] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
[1:45] Speaker 3: It's on the screen.
[1:46] Speaker 2: Yep.
[1:47] Speaker 1: There's a lot of money on that screen. Crazy, though.
[1:49] Speaker 1: $ 300 million again.
[1:50] Speaker 3: Have you said that every episode?
[1:51] Speaker 1: I think so.
[1:52] Speaker 3: This is the most expensive movie ever produced up until now?
[1:54] Speaker 2: I think so.
[1:55] Speaker 3: Great. Yeah, okay.
[1:56] Speaker 1: At World's End earned a total of $ 963. 4 million worldwide.
[2:02] Speaker 1: It was the highest grossing film of 2007, eclipsing Harry
[2:07] Speaker 1: Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Spider-Man 3.
[2:11] Speaker 1: So it took down some giants there in the third
[2:15] Speaker 1: part of this trilogy. They sort of thought maybe this
[2:17] Speaker 1: would be it. Obviously, we have a couple more still
[2:19] Speaker 1: to do, but they come a little bit later. But wow,
[2:21] Speaker 1: it cost a lot, but it made a lot of money, man.
[2:25] Speaker 1: Nearly a bill.
[2:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, but a lot of picturesque moments. As you said,
[2:29] Speaker 2: you could tell. There's a lot of put into this thing.
[2:32] Speaker 1: Oh, the battle scenes alone. Holy crap. All right, so
[2:36] Speaker 1: the skinny of this movie, and it's a fat one,
[2:39] Speaker 1: but the skinny is the East India Trading Company are
[2:43] Speaker 1: trying to eliminate all the pirates. So Barbossa, Will, and
[2:46] Speaker 1: Elizabeth race to bring back Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones'
[2:51] Speaker 1: locker so as to bring together all the members of
[2:55] Speaker 1: the Brethren Court and launch an attack on Lord Cutler Beckett.
[3:00] Speaker 1: who right now is controlling Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman.
[3:05] Speaker 2: So much plot.
[3:05] Speaker 1: You follow?
[3:06] Speaker 2: Simple. Really, yeah. Danielle and I were making a web
[3:11] Speaker 2: of all the different plots.
[3:13] Speaker 4: Because you need to. You generally need to.
[3:16] Speaker 2: But the way so many of the deals fell apart
[3:20] Speaker 2: and guys switching teams like they're James Harden. You know,
[3:23] Speaker 2: it's like. What's the point of the web? You just
[3:26] Speaker 2: gotta follow. You just really have to follow.
[3:28] Speaker 3: The middle is confusing.
[3:29] Speaker 2: Indeed.
[3:30] Speaker 1: Two hours and 48 minutes is the run time for
[3:34] Speaker 1: At World's End. Stars, all of the people that we've
[3:38] Speaker 1: had in the first two, the Johnny Depps, Orlando Bloom,
[3:40] Speaker 1: Keira Knightley. I mean, everybody, literally everybody. Our new addition,
[3:44] Speaker 1: Chow Yun-Fat. That's the new big name here to this
[3:47] Speaker 1: huge cast because everybody's back. And for the third and
[3:51] Speaker 1: final time, this one directed by Gore Verbinski. After this,
[3:55] Speaker 1: he says, I've done it all. I put everything I
[3:58] Speaker 1: had into this movie and this trilogy, JD.
[4:01] Speaker 4: I believe it. I mean, you guys said it. It's
[4:03] Speaker 4: all on the screen. This movie is a fucking feast
[4:07] Speaker 4: for the eyes, I have to say. For all of
[4:09] Speaker 4: its flaws and all of its convolutedness, It's just a
[4:13] Speaker 4: joy to look at.
[4:14] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
[4:15] Speaker 1: Did you see it in theaters?
[4:17] Speaker 2: No.
[4:17] Speaker 4: No, no, no, no.
[4:18] Speaker 1: Will, do you want to go in a couple years
[4:20] Speaker 1: when they no doubt put it in theaters for the
[4:22] Speaker 1: 25th anniversary?
[4:23] Speaker 4: I mean, I would consider it, I think.
[4:25] Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah.
[4:26] Speaker 3: The Booty Boys?
[4:27] Speaker 1: Let's go. Catch it together?
[4:28] Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay.
[4:30] Speaker 1: It would be cool on the big screen. I'm not
[4:32] Speaker 1: even kidding. You're right. It does look awesome. It's very long.
[4:35] Speaker 1: It's very convoluted, but it looks awesome.
[4:37] Speaker 2: Yeah. You get a little edible in you walking into there.
[4:40] Speaker 2: They're serving edibles as you walk in. I bet they will.
[4:44] Speaker 4: Well, I was considering taking an edible before watching this because,
[4:48] Speaker 4: you know, why not? And then I'm glad I didn't
[4:50] Speaker 4: because the, you know, the multiplicity, Johnny Depp and the
[4:56] Speaker 4: whole underworld thing. And I mean, we'll get to it,
[4:59] Speaker 4: but I felt high watching this movie. Various parts. It's
[5:04] Speaker 4: just like, what is happening here?
[5:06] Speaker 2: As in you wouldn't want to be high for Johnny
[5:08] Speaker 2: Depp's first scene, which we'll get to.
[5:09] Speaker 4: Right.
[5:10] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[5:11] Speaker 4: And also just following what was happening.
[5:14] Speaker 1: Well, I mean, in doing these, I'm obviously taking a
[5:16] Speaker 1: lot of notes. And again, I'm leaning on Wikipedia and
[5:19] Speaker 1: leaning on IMDb for all of the plot points. But
[5:22] Speaker 1: I don't know, about an hour and 10 minutes into
[5:24] Speaker 1: this movie, I was like, Yeah.
[5:27] Speaker 4: What's the point?
[5:29] Speaker 1: I can't keep track of anything. Everything I write down
[5:32] Speaker 1: completely just flips 10 minutes later. So I'm like, I'm
[5:34] Speaker 1: just going to go along for the ride.
[5:35] Speaker 2: It's a good move.
[5:36] Speaker 1: Right? Just enjoy it.
[5:39] Speaker 2: Yep.
[5:40] Speaker 1: Pop the edibles, sit back and enjoy it.
[5:42] Speaker 2: All right.
[5:43] Speaker 1: So let's get into it here. Again, this is part
[5:45] Speaker 1: three of our Booty Boys Pirates of the Caribbean series.
[5:48] Speaker 1: So to increase his power, I guess, in the Caribbean,
[5:52] Speaker 1: Lord Cutler Beckett. Executes anyone, including women and children. This
[5:57] Speaker 1: guy's diabolical. That is associated with piracy. So Beckett, he
[6:03] Speaker 1: possesses Davy Jones' heart. See Booty Boys Episode 2. The
[6:08] Speaker 1: end of that one.
[6:09] Speaker 3: He got the chest.
[6:10] Speaker 1: And he is basically ordering Jones to destroy all the
[6:13] Speaker 1: pirate ships and to kill all the pirates. And again,
[6:16] Speaker 1: kill anyone associated with piracy. Hell, even kill the Kraken.
[6:20] Speaker 1: Pour one out for the Kraken.
[6:25] Speaker 3: That would be like killing off the Tyrannosaurus Rex in
[6:29] Speaker 3: Jurassic Park off screen. I was disappointed and offended for
[6:33] Speaker 3: the Kraken and all of Kraken kind.
[6:36] Speaker 4: Also, they didn't even eat it.
[6:38] Speaker 1: Wow.
[6:39] Speaker 3: That's a great point.
[6:40] Speaker 1: It's the largest calamari. 100%.
[6:42] Speaker 4: You're on the water. You're going to feed your crew
[6:46] Speaker 4: for months, literally.
[6:48] Speaker 1: Good point.
[6:48] Speaker 2: Just salt that up.
[6:50] Speaker 3: It's delicious. Kraken rolls for everybody.
[6:52] Speaker 1: So Jones and the squid squad here are basically hired hitmen.
[6:57] Speaker 1: Not even hired. They're just under the spell of Lord Beckett.
[7:01] Speaker 1: Taz came up with that.
[7:02] Speaker 2: I thought.
[7:02] Speaker 3: That's good, actually.
[7:03] Speaker 2: I like that.
[7:04] Speaker 1: So that's how we start. And then the condemned prisoners,
[7:06] Speaker 1: because it starts pretty dark this movie. Everybody's just being
[7:09] Speaker 1: killed and hung. I guess a young boy starts us off.
[7:13] Speaker 1: Beautiful voice. Starts singing the song, Hoist the Colors. To Summon.
[7:19] Speaker 1: the nine pirate lords from around the world to convene
[7:22] Speaker 1: at Shipwreck Cove to hold brethren court and address Beckett's threat.
[7:28] Speaker 4: Oh, that's what's happening.
[7:29] Speaker 1: That's what I believe is happening.
[7:31] Speaker 4: That's why he goes... fucking finally.
[7:33] Speaker 3: He's excited they're singing.
[7:35] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes.
[7:36] Speaker 3: I didn't realize that either. That seems like a little
[7:38] Speaker 3: bit too much power for a nine-year-old boy to have.
[7:43] Speaker 3: He just knows the word to the song, and if
[7:46] Speaker 3: he gets enough people to sing along with him, everybody's coming.
[7:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's like the song triggered, like it starts
[7:51] Speaker 1: vibrating things. Is that what's going on here?
[7:55] Speaker 2: It's very, very convoluted. I know it's convoluted as we
[7:59] Speaker 2: get into the plot scenes and all this, but It
[8:01] Speaker 2: starts off very convoluted. The boy is holding a coin.
[8:04] Speaker 2: And to me, you kind of have a callback to,
[8:09] Speaker 2: I guess it's number one, the first movie where Keira
[8:13] Speaker 2: Knightley rips the coin off of the boy's chest. We
[8:17] Speaker 2: need a coin. We need a boy. And then somehow
[8:20] Speaker 2: everything is just kind of connected as, yeah, we get
[8:23] Speaker 2: the vibrations coming up with Cao Feng and him hearing
[8:27] Speaker 2: the coin in his ear coming up. Yeah. Yeah, it
[8:30] Speaker 2: just seemed too simple for Cutler Beckett to be able
[8:33] Speaker 2: to say, finally. You know, and then everything starts. Yep,
[8:37] Speaker 2: but it all.
[8:37] Speaker 4: I totally missed that. And you weren't even high. I
[8:42] Speaker 4: wasn't even high.
[8:43] Speaker 3: I was locked in.
[8:44] Speaker 4: This was two minutes in. And I want to say also,
[8:46] Speaker 4: the first movie, they thought was so, like, it was
[8:50] Speaker 4: their first PG-13 movie, you know, and they didn't even
[8:53] Speaker 4: put the Disney logo on the first one. I don't
[8:56] Speaker 4: know if you noticed that.
[8:57] Speaker 2: No.
[8:58] Speaker 4: That off the top just goes straight into it. This one,
[9:00] Speaker 4: it's the full fireworks.
[9:02] Speaker 1: Hang it, kid.
[9:04] Speaker 4: They hang the kid.
[9:07] Speaker 3: In the first scene. Yeah, it's a dark entry into
[9:10] Speaker 3: the movie, for sure. The fascist government overreach, the mass hangings,
[9:14] Speaker 3: and then when they put the kid on the thing, you're.
[9:17] Speaker 2: Like, oh.
[9:18] Speaker 3: Somebody's going to come with a sword or an arrow
[9:20] Speaker 3: and shoot him down or something like that. Nah, they
[9:22] Speaker 3: just straight up hang.
[9:23] Speaker 2: I'll admit too.
[9:24] Speaker 1: I didn't, when, when we start this movie, I was like,
[9:26] Speaker 1: is this a flashback? Like, are we in the past here?
[9:30] Speaker 1: And obviously we quickly learn with Lord colored Becca that
[9:32] Speaker 1: it's not that's present day, but I'm like, yeah, what
[9:35] Speaker 1: this he's got to escape.
[9:37] Speaker 2: Nope.
[9:37] Speaker 4: Nope.
[9:37] Speaker 1: He just sings a song.
[9:39] Speaker 2: And gets on the Apple box.
[9:40] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[9:40] Speaker 2: And that's, he's got to step on something to be hung.
[9:43] Speaker 2: So it's a little spooky.
[9:45] Speaker 4: Although that being said, They don't show any of it.
[9:49] Speaker 2: No.
[9:50] Speaker 3: They just show the hinge thing.
[9:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
[9:54] Speaker 3: Did you like the song, Hoist the Colors?
[9:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's okay.
[9:58] Speaker 3: A modern pirate song. They wrote it for this movie.
[10:01] Speaker 3: The other ones are... I don't know if they're traditional
[10:04] Speaker 3: pirate songs. I don't know if those have survived, but
[10:06] Speaker 3: they're definitely in the ride, like Yo-Ho Ho and a
[10:09] Speaker 3: Bottle of Rum, A Pirate's Life for Me. This one,
[10:11] Speaker 3: they wrote it. They wrote Hoist the Colors. It's got
[10:15] Speaker 3: to be the most... recently written pirate song.
[10:19] Speaker 2: 100%.
[10:19] Speaker 3: For sure. Instantly to the top of the charts on
[10:23] Speaker 3: the pirate charts. Number one, finally unseating a pirate's life
[10:28] Speaker 3: for me after 250 years. It's Hoist the Colors.
[10:33] Speaker 4: I mean, it's good, right?
[10:34] Speaker 1: It's not bad.
[10:35] Speaker 3: I think it's good.
[10:36] Speaker 2: It fits in, I think.
[10:38] Speaker 4: I mean, I would almost dare to say nominate it
[10:41] Speaker 4: for an original song, right?
[10:43] Speaker 1: Why? Are the lyrics of this song they wrote about
[10:48] Speaker 1: the whole Teodama and Calypso? Great question. And how it
[10:51] Speaker 1: all came to be? I think it might be. Do
[10:54] Speaker 1: you consider Jack Sparrow featuring Michael Bolton a pirate song?
[10:58] Speaker 3: Because that was written more recently. Sorry, I just tried
[11:01] Speaker 3: to fact check.
[11:01] Speaker 2: Okay, wow, wow, wow.
[11:03] Speaker 3: That's a great song. The Lonely Island Crew. That's a
[11:06] Speaker 3: hilarious video. Davy Jones, Giant Squid.
[11:10] Speaker 2: Too good.
[11:11] Speaker 1: Okay, so here's the rub with this whole thing, though.
[11:13] Speaker 1: Captain Jack Sparrow, pirate lord of the Caribbean, never named
[11:18] Speaker 1: a successor before being dragged to Davy Jones' locker to
[11:22] Speaker 1: be basically sort of killed. I wrote down, let this
[11:26] Speaker 1: be a lesson to all the parents out there. You
[11:28] Speaker 1: got to execute your will. Right? Have you done it?
[11:32] Speaker 3: No.
[11:33] Speaker 1: Get on it.
[11:34] Speaker 4: I know.
[11:34] Speaker 1: Get on it, man.
[11:35] Speaker 2: It's true. I'm literally.
[11:36] Speaker 1: We're having problems right now with Nora's parents. I think he,
[11:39] Speaker 1: I think my father-in-law thinks by signing this document, it's
[11:43] Speaker 1: like sealing his death, you know?
[11:44] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[11:45] Speaker 4: That's how, that's how I feel.
[11:46] Speaker 1: You got to do it to help everybody else out
[11:48] Speaker 1: when unfortunately you do pass. Yeah.
[11:50] Speaker 4: I mean, I'm at the age now where people will go, yeah,
[11:53] Speaker 4: you know, you had a good run.
[11:55] Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
[11:56] Speaker 2: You think so? Yeah.
[11:57] Speaker 1: Well, you had a good run. I hope you have
[11:59] Speaker 1: a lot more running left. I think you're the most
[12:01] Speaker 1: fit you've ever, since I've ever known you.
[12:03] Speaker 2: Wow. You don't think so?
[12:05] Speaker 4: It doesn't say a lot for my past.
[12:07] Speaker 2: Well, not really. It's hard to remember when you see somebody.
[12:14] Speaker 2: It's like when you see your kid every day. It's
[12:15] Speaker 2: the same as when you see JD every day. Like
[12:17] Speaker 2: you don't notice how he changes.
[12:19] Speaker 3: Hold on, hold on. Somebody came in after six months.
[12:23] Speaker 3: They're like, wow, JD's really grown. You've got a lot taller.
[12:25] Speaker 2: We've known him 25 years. No, you wouldn't see his
[12:27] Speaker 2: fat change. I would say, I would say just that
[12:31] Speaker 2: your fat percentage I think has, no, I, It's gotten higher.
[12:36] Speaker 2: Your fat percentage has gotten higher. It's okay.
[12:38] Speaker 4: I can take it.
[12:38] Speaker 2: No, because I did watch a video. I put one
[12:40] Speaker 2: up on our Substack page. I'm not plugging our Substack page,
[12:43] Speaker 2: but when you were doing a VO and you were
[12:47] Speaker 2: standing there when we were back in the score. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[12:50] Speaker 2: And you look slimmer. That's all. That's all I got
[12:54] Speaker 2: to say. And this was 12.
[12:55] Speaker 1: Okay, maybe you look slimmer, but there is no doubt.
[12:57] Speaker 2: 25 years ago, all we did was drink Guinness and
[13:01] Speaker 2: get bombed, and now you're quite healthy.
[13:03] Speaker 1: Yeah. And you might hit in the gym.
[13:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. Off-season. Off-season, that goes up.
[13:08] Speaker 1: Okay, execute your will, though, please.
[13:09] Speaker 2: Don't worry.
[13:10] Speaker 4: Okay.
[13:12] Speaker 1: Please, please.
[13:13] Speaker 4: Tass, you're officially out of the will.
[13:14] Speaker 2: All right. No, I don't want you to sign that, Will.
[13:19] Speaker 2: I think you'd be more reckless. I think I would
[13:21] Speaker 2: be more reckless, and I'm not projecting myself, but I
[13:24] Speaker 2: think you're worth the same in that.
[13:25] Speaker 4: You're just going to go live life a little bit different,
[13:28] Speaker 4: a little bit.
[13:28] Speaker 2: On the edge.
[13:29] Speaker 3: He's going to get that motorcycle.
[13:31] Speaker 4: I'm definitely signing that.
[13:34] Speaker 1: So because of this, because, again, Jack Sparrow has not
[13:38] Speaker 1: named a successor here, Captain Barbossa, back from the dead, baby.
[13:42] Speaker 1: He leads Will, Elizabeth, Tia Dalma, and then the surviving
[13:46] Speaker 1: crew of the Black Pearl in a plot to go
[13:48] Speaker 1: and rescue Jack. So that's sort of one subplot here
[13:52] Speaker 1: where they're going to go and try and get him
[13:53] Speaker 1: back here from Davy Jones' locker. But in order to
[13:57] Speaker 1: do that, they've got to go to Singapore.
[13:59] Speaker 3: That's right.
[14:00] Speaker 1: Finally. Where they meet Pirate Lord Cao Feng, who owns
[14:04] Speaker 1: navigational charts to the locker to go get, obviously, Jack Sparrow.
[14:10] Speaker 1: That's where he is internally imprisoned.
[14:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, he's got a very cool map with spinning parts
[14:16] Speaker 3: and lots of different ways you can go. I actually
[14:18] Speaker 3: think the pirate's lair in Singapore looks awesome. I do
[14:23] Speaker 3: like Chow Yun-Fat just constantly calling for more steam.
[14:27] Speaker 2: More steam, more steam.
[14:29] Speaker 3: He wants his skin to look good when they're out there.
[14:32] Speaker 3: But yeah, we also get Elizabeth in disguise again. I
[14:35] Speaker 3: feel like that calls back to the last movie. She
[14:37] Speaker 3: was in disguise a lot. She's wearing her first of
[14:39] Speaker 3: at least three different hats.
[14:40] Speaker 1: A lot of hats.
[14:41] Speaker 3: A lot of different hats for Elizabeth in this movie.
[14:44] Speaker 3: I don't mind it. And yeah, we're getting like the
[14:46] Speaker 3: pirates crew is kind of all sneaking in and the
[14:50] Speaker 3: subterranean steam layer part of the thing. Yeah. Interesting start. Yeah.
[14:56] Speaker 1: Elizabeth and Barbossa bargain with Fang for the map and
[14:59] Speaker 1: a ship. But Fang is furious because Will has already
[15:02] Speaker 1: tried everything. to steal it, and they have him as
[15:06] Speaker 1: a prisoner, right? I mean, that's when he pops out
[15:08] Speaker 1: of the water. How long has he been in there?
[15:10] Speaker 2: I know.
[15:10] Speaker 1: How long was he holding his breath? Yeah. He got
[15:14] Speaker 1: caught and he's all tied up in like, I wrote down,
[15:16] Speaker 1: some steam room bondage type shit. Because you're right. He's
[15:20] Speaker 1: calling for more steam. It's like quite sexual in that bathhouse,
[15:24] Speaker 1: I would say.
[15:24] Speaker 3: It is. It is a little bit.
[15:26] Speaker 1: Maybe that's me.
[15:26] Speaker 2: Maybe that's me. I don't know. It's hell trying to
[15:29] Speaker 2: understand all this, but I will bring us to one comment,
[15:33] Speaker 2: one point from Barbosa when he says, the song has
[15:35] Speaker 2: been sung. We must convene the brethren court. So does
[15:38] Speaker 2: that just mean The song is sung, and that's when
[15:41] Speaker 2: Beckett says, finally, the trigger. So that's it. Now we
[15:45] Speaker 2: can do it.
[15:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, let's get together.
[15:47] Speaker 2: Okay, that's it. Done.
[15:48] Speaker 1: I guess that's a rule. I got a lot of
[15:50] Speaker 1: rules in Pirate Land, and one of them is if
[15:52] Speaker 1: that song is sung. And hoist your colors or hoist
[15:55] Speaker 1: the colors. Then we got to all get together and
[15:56] Speaker 1: meet in court.
[15:57] Speaker 2: Let's do this. That's why we came to Singapore, man.
[16:00] Speaker 3: No one has sang this song in however many years
[16:02] Speaker 3: since the last Brethren Court. Apparently, this kid was the
[16:05] Speaker 3: first one.
[16:06] Speaker 1: Well, they do say it's the fourth Brethren Court, don't they?
[16:08] Speaker 3: The fourth Brethren Court.
[16:09] Speaker 1: There's been a couple times, I assume, where the song
[16:11] Speaker 1: has been sung. It seems like that's the trigger for it,
[16:14] Speaker 1: but they're just lucky. Otherwise they would have to be
[16:16] Speaker 1: meeting all the time. If this song catches on.
[16:19] Speaker 3: It becomes popular, which apparently it is because Elizabeth is
[16:22] Speaker 3: singing it as like they cruise in to Singapore.
[16:24] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[16:25] Speaker 1: Aren't they like, Oh, Not at a meeting. Somebody else
[16:29] Speaker 1: is singing. All right.
[16:30] Speaker 3: Get out your coins.
[16:32] Speaker 2: We're going to Singapore.
[16:33] Speaker 4: This could have been an email, but okay.
[16:34] Speaker 1: This could have been an email.
[16:36] Speaker 2: Okay.
[16:37] Speaker 1: So the East India Trading Company, led by sort of
[16:40] Speaker 1: a new bad guy named Mercer. I mean, he's like
[16:43] Speaker 1: a secondary guy here. They make a surprise attack on
[16:46] Speaker 1: Feng's bathhouse. And then during, and this is important, I believe,
[16:50] Speaker 1: because during the ensuing chaos, Will strikes a bargain with
[16:54] Speaker 1: Feng for the black pearl. in exchange for Jack Sparrow.
[16:59] Speaker 1: Cause that's where they're like, again, there is a straight
[17:01] Speaker 1: up battle going on, but they're like having like a whisper,
[17:03] Speaker 1: whisper meeting, meeting here and making this deal. And who
[17:06] Speaker 1: clocks it? Somebody.
[17:07] Speaker 3: Mercer is the one who's like overlooking. He wants to
[17:09] Speaker 3: shoot him, but then he hears him talking about getting
[17:12] Speaker 3: Jack back and turning Jack over. So he's like, all right,
[17:15] Speaker 3: I'll let this play out.
[17:16] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[17:16] Speaker 1: And then, so this deal, if I again have this right,
[17:19] Speaker 1: Fang wants to turn Jack Sparrow over to Beckett, presumably
[17:23] Speaker 1: for immunity from all of these Jones attacks.
[17:26] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[17:26] Speaker 1: I think that's his thinking. And then Will wants the
[17:28] Speaker 1: Black Pearl to rescue his father. Bootstrap Bill.
[17:31] Speaker 3: Bootstrap Bill.
[17:32] Speaker 1: Who is on the Flying Dutchman there.
[17:34] Speaker 2: This is a three-team deal.
[17:37] Speaker 1: A lot of moving parts. I need Bobby Marks to
[17:39] Speaker 1: weigh in on this. Check the books on this one.
[17:42] Speaker 1: Does it work in the trade machine? Yes, it does.
[17:44] Speaker 1: It does. Okay, anything else from this crazy scene here
[17:49] Speaker 1: in the bathhouse or in Singapore?
[17:50] Speaker 3: I mean, we're, yeah, as soon as the East India
[17:53] Speaker 3: Trading Company comes in, we get some, like, legitimate deaths again. Like,
[17:57] Speaker 3: we just had a kid get hung, and we have
[17:59] Speaker 3: a woman shot right in the forehead.
[18:01] Speaker 1: I couldn't believe that.
[18:02] Speaker 2: I know.
[18:03] Speaker 3: This guy's bad. Mercer's a bad guy.
[18:05] Speaker 1: And I also thought, yeah, the one woman gets shot
[18:08] Speaker 1: straight in the head, and I thought the other one, like,
[18:10] Speaker 1: gives a hell of a look. Like, I'm going to
[18:13] Speaker 1: get you for that.
[18:13] Speaker 2: Yes.
[18:14] Speaker 1: She never gets any revenge.
[18:15] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[18:16] Speaker 3: I thought she would get them back in the end.
[18:19] Speaker 1: Somehow, but nope. She just has to mourn her potential
[18:22] Speaker 1: sister or something like that.
[18:24] Speaker 4: My thought process through all of this was like, all right,
[18:28] Speaker 4: two hot chicks to watch the show. My wife's out
[18:30] Speaker 4: of town, so I'm going to enjoy the company of
[18:32] Speaker 4: these two hot women that are joining the crew. One dies,
[18:35] Speaker 4: and I was like, all right, one hot woman, one
[18:37] Speaker 4: more hot woman to enjoy the ride with.
[18:40] Speaker 2: She died, too.
[18:41] Speaker 4: What the hell?
[18:42] Speaker 3: Do we know she died?
[18:43] Speaker 2: I don't know. She disappeared.
[18:44] Speaker 3: She disappeared.
[18:45] Speaker 1: She's still in Singapore.
[18:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
[18:47] Speaker 1: So you were disappointed from here on out.
[18:50] Speaker 4: Pretty much. I was like, all right.
[18:53] Speaker 3: Good little moment with the little guy shoots the gigantic
[18:56] Speaker 3: gun and like, poof, flies back into the hole as well.
[18:59] Speaker 2: And Tia Dolma's there as well.
[19:01] Speaker 3: She's part of the crew now.
[19:03] Speaker 2: And there's the very pirate move by Barbossa when he
[19:06] Speaker 2: literally says, our intentions here are strictly honorable. Second later,
[19:12] Speaker 2: same breath, the swords get passed to them from below deck.
[19:17] Speaker 2: So it's like, yeah, I'm a pirate. This is basically,
[19:20] Speaker 2: you know, going from my, I'm doing this honorably. And then,
[19:23] Speaker 2: oh yeah, I'm killing you. Oh yeah. That was pretty
[19:27] Speaker 2: cool though.
[19:27] Speaker 1: It looked neat.
[19:28] Speaker 2: Yeah. Apparently it took. hundreds of billions of takes for
[19:31] Speaker 2: them to pass it through the floor and for them
[19:33] Speaker 2: to catch it simultaneously. Oh, wow.
[19:35] Speaker 1: I hadn't thought about that.
[19:36] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[19:37] Speaker 4: Simultaneously? Grabbing the handles? There's like four to six weapons
[19:42] Speaker 4: that come out.
[19:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, something like that.
[19:44] Speaker 3: Definitely Barbossa and Elizabeth both grab two, right, and start
[19:47] Speaker 3: stabbing left and right.
[19:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was cool.
[19:50] Speaker 4: How many takes do you think it took for Keira
[19:52] Speaker 4: Knightley to pull a blunderbuss out of her ass?
[19:57] Speaker 1: That was weird. That was, that was weird. I'd forgotten
[20:00] Speaker 1: about that.
[20:02] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[20:02] Speaker 1: She's okay. It's like the joke. She's got all the weapons,
[20:05] Speaker 1: but then like the grenade.
[20:06] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[20:07] Speaker 1: And the grenade. But then, and then it's like, okay,
[20:09] Speaker 1: that's okay. We've seen that joke a million times in movies,
[20:12] Speaker 1: action movies.
[20:12] Speaker 2: Right.
[20:13] Speaker 1: And then, yeah. Well, one more. All right. Any other
[20:23] Speaker 1: Singapore thoughts? We can keep going here.
[20:25] Speaker 2: Did anybody give a crap that we just get to Singapore?
[20:29] Speaker 2: I mean, they're from the Caribbean and now they're in Singapore.
[20:32] Speaker 2: I didn't care. I didn't care personally. No, I didn't care.
[20:36] Speaker 2: That's a good point. The guy cuts off his toe.
[20:38] Speaker 2: That's frozen.
[20:39] Speaker 1: Oh, that's no, now we're jumping. We're jumping from Singapore.
[20:41] Speaker 1: Let's go right to there.
[20:42] Speaker 2: That's totally true. That's totally true. I'm getting convoluted. Yeah,
[20:46] Speaker 2: go ahead.
[20:47] Speaker 1: Um, so they're, that's where they're sailing and they're obviously
[20:49] Speaker 1: on their way here to, um, or they're trying to
[20:51] Speaker 1: figure out where, uh, the Davy Jones locker is to,
[20:54] Speaker 1: to save Jack Sparrow. They go through this frozen sea.
[20:57] Speaker 1: They eventually sail over an enormous waterfall into the locker. Yeah, frostbite, though. Legit.
[21:03] Speaker 1: Guy's snapping off his big toe.
[21:05] Speaker 3: He breaks it off.
[21:07] Speaker 2: No pain, either. Yeah, he can't feel it. But.
[21:11] Speaker 3: Pass it around. Gnaw on it.
[21:12] Speaker 4: Gnaw, yeah.
[21:14] Speaker 2: You gotta eat anything.
[21:15] Speaker 3: I'm with JD. Eat the Kraken. Eat your toe that's
[21:18] Speaker 3: broken off. Anything you see. Like Davy Jones gets a
[21:21] Speaker 3: tentacle cut off, I'd eat it.
[21:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
[21:25] Speaker 1: You're right. I mean, food is scarce.
[21:29] Speaker 2: The scenic scenes going through the ice, it looks like
[21:32] Speaker 2: a canal kind of thing. It's pretty beautiful.
[21:35] Speaker 3: It does look good.
[21:38] Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Jack Sparrow he is constantly hallucinating here about an
[21:44] Speaker 1: entire crew of himself. But when the Pearl is mysteriously
[21:49] Speaker 1: carried to an ocean shore by crab like creatures, Jack
[21:52] Speaker 1: is reunited with his old shipmates there who have found
[21:54] Speaker 1: their way to the locker. So I've, I'm obviously skipping
[21:57] Speaker 1: a little bit ahead here, but they, they eventually make
[21:59] Speaker 1: it to Davy Jones locker. And, uh, Yeah, let's break
[22:03] Speaker 1: all this down. What was your favorite part of this?
[22:06] Speaker 3: The ship full of jacks, I think, is awesome. It's
[22:08] Speaker 3: like 30 minutes, basically, until we actually get to see
[22:11] Speaker 3: Jack Sparrow. So you're like, how big of a part
[22:13] Speaker 3: is he going to be in this movie? And then
[22:14] Speaker 3: there's 100 jacks, basically. I think it looks super cool.
[22:18] Speaker 3: It looks super trippy. You know, when the rock actually
[22:22] Speaker 3: turns into a crab. I think looks pretty sweet. There's
[22:26] Speaker 3: like thousands of them and it takes them over. I
[22:28] Speaker 3: think this was, I don't know. The last battle is
[22:31] Speaker 3: pretty sick as well, but this is, this is probably
[22:33] Speaker 3: my other favorite seat in the movie. All the jacks.
[22:35] Speaker 2: No doubt. It's nice that we actually wait 30 minutes
[22:40] Speaker 2: before we see Johnny Depp in this movie. And the
[22:42] Speaker 2: first time we see him, yeah, he's fighting with himself
[22:45] Speaker 2: that he's all, his soul is trapped. His mind is trapped.
[22:48] Speaker 2: His body's trapped. And it's just scenic that, that white
[22:50] Speaker 2: landscape in contrast to the black pearl and, it is
[22:54] Speaker 2: pretty beautiful. And he starts licking rocks and he's going nuts. Yeah.
[22:59] Speaker 2: I think this one, I combine it sort of with
[23:02] Speaker 2: the first time we saw Johnny Depp in the first movie,
[23:06] Speaker 2: just epic debuts in each movie for Johnny Depp. No doubt.
[23:10] Speaker 1: What'd you think, Judy?
[23:11] Speaker 4: I did not like the multiple jacks.
[23:13] Speaker 1: No.
[23:15] Speaker 2: I didn't.
[23:16] Speaker 1: It was too much.
[23:16] Speaker 4: It was too much Jack Sparrow. You know what I mean?
[23:18] Speaker 4: Like it's just, he's scenery chewing as it is when
[23:21] Speaker 4: he's one guy. And then, it all felt sort of off.
[23:24] Speaker 4: And I know that it's supposed to feel off because
[23:26] Speaker 4: it's whatever Davy Jones locker and all that. But, uh,
[23:30] Speaker 4: it felt like all the Jacks didn't know quite where
[23:34] Speaker 4: to look all the time because he's so weird and
[23:37] Speaker 4: unpredictable anyways.
[23:39] Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
[23:40] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[23:40] Speaker 4: And I really hated it when the two of them
[23:42] Speaker 4: show up in his dreads late later.
[23:44] Speaker 1: Like, Oh, the little tiny ones?
[23:47] Speaker 4: Little angels on your shoulder? It just didn't work for me.
[23:52] Speaker 4: And this part goes on for so long. Just, I
[23:57] Speaker 4: think it's like 10 minutes or so of just this.
[24:01] Speaker 4: But I'm with Trey. The rock that turns into a
[24:03] Speaker 4: crab is great.
[24:05] Speaker 1: And I guess that's Tia Dalma saving him, right? Because
[24:09] Speaker 1: she has her little crab thing or something that she's
[24:11] Speaker 1: always touching.
[24:12] Speaker 4: Well, it didn't click into me until she turns into crabs.
[24:16] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[24:17] Speaker 1: So she has something that's a crab, like either charm
[24:20] Speaker 1: or necklace around that. I didn't even notice.
[24:23] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[24:23] Speaker 1: She's like stroking. And I think it's I think the
[24:25] Speaker 1: idea is she is moving the ship that has Jack
[24:29] Speaker 1: Sparrow on it to them when they get there. I
[24:31] Speaker 1: think that's what's happening.
[24:32] Speaker 3: They thought of everything.
[24:36] Speaker 4: The salt bed or whatever they're on, that looked just
[24:39] Speaker 4: fucking cool. I like the surrealness of it, but I
[24:42] Speaker 4: just thought that whenever there's more than one Jack on screen,
[24:45] Speaker 4: I get annoyed. I don't know why. It just didn't
[24:48] Speaker 4: work for me. And there's a goat fucking joke in
[24:52] Speaker 4: that part, right? Is that the insinuation or is that
[24:55] Speaker 4: just my head space?
[24:56] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[24:57] Speaker 2: Let's relive. He doesn't say anything.
[24:58] Speaker 4: He's sort of makes a pass at the, at the goat.
[25:01] Speaker 4: Like he's, he's sitting next to a goat.
[25:04] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[25:05] Speaker 4: And he scoots over sort of in a flirtatious way.
[25:08] Speaker 4: And then the goat turns to the camera as if
[25:10] Speaker 4: to say, well, here we go again. This is my hell.
[25:19] Speaker 4: This is, this is the goat's hell, not Jack Sparrow's hell.
[25:22] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[25:24] Speaker 1: Anyway.
[25:24] Speaker 2: And I don't know if this increased the cost for
[25:29] Speaker 2: this movie, but because it is dry, as you said,
[25:32] Speaker 2: they're trying to make the contrast here in the desert
[25:34] Speaker 2: versus the boat. Apparently it rained there and they're kind
[25:39] Speaker 2: of waiting for either like a windstorm or heat to
[25:42] Speaker 2: dry it out. So it took them a couple of days.
[25:44] Speaker 2: There's puddles everywhere. Oh, interesting. They filmed this in the
[25:48] Speaker 2: Utah salt flats. Oh, really? Yeah.
[25:50] Speaker 3: Okay. I mean, to me, That's a great location. I
[25:54] Speaker 3: think it must be the exact same location where Will
[25:57] Speaker 3: Smith crashes down in Independence Day and punches an alien
[26:00] Speaker 3: in the face and carries him across. And that's an
[26:02] Speaker 3: awesome scene, too, just out in the pure white desert.
[26:05] Speaker 3: I think anything like that looks so cool.
[26:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, me too. This looks even whiter, I think, than
[26:08] Speaker 2: Independence Day, right? I feel like they.
[26:11] Speaker 1: Cranked the contrast. It could be because of this idea
[26:13] Speaker 1: of where he is in this luminal space.
[26:16] Speaker 2: Did we skip the Davy Jones playing... His music box
[26:20] Speaker 2: and the organ?
[26:22] Speaker 3: We haven't gotten there.
[26:23] Speaker 2: I don't think so. My order is off.
[26:26] Speaker 1: I think we're close.
[26:27] Speaker 3: The same zone.
[26:28] Speaker 1: Because Jack, obviously, like we said, the ship is carried
[26:31] Speaker 1: by these craps back to them because they've made their
[26:34] Speaker 1: way there. I say this crew trying to save them.
[26:36] Speaker 1: He is initially reluctant to rejoin this crew because he says,
[26:41] Speaker 1: it includes four people that tried to kill me. One
[26:44] Speaker 1: of you did kill me, yes, in Elizabeth. And I,
[26:48] Speaker 1: you know, fair enough. You should be reluctant.
[26:50] Speaker 2: Exactly.
[26:51] Speaker 1: But you're also dead.
[26:52] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a tough spot. Yeah. Yeah, I can go
[26:56] Speaker 3: back to the land of the living and maybe become
[26:58] Speaker 3: a mortal, or I can stay here and hang out
[27:00] Speaker 3: with myself. That's why Jack's having a tough time deciding
[27:04] Speaker 3: what he needs to do.
[27:06] Speaker 1: But ultimately decides, okay, I'll go with them. So as
[27:08] Speaker 1: the Black Pearl crew seek an escape route, dead souls
[27:13] Speaker 1: are seen floating underwater. And then this is where we
[27:17] Speaker 1: cue the exposition, right? We get a bunch of like
[27:20] Speaker 1: backstory here or some reasoning. So Tia Dalma reveals that
[27:24] Speaker 1: Davy Jones was appointed by Calypso, goddess of the sea,
[27:28] Speaker 1: and his lover to ferry the dead to the next world.
[27:31] Speaker 1: That was actually his job. In return, Jones was allowed
[27:35] Speaker 1: to step upon land for one day every 10 years
[27:38] Speaker 1: to be with his love. But when she failed to
[27:40] Speaker 1: meet him, she did not check the calendar. The scorned
[27:44] Speaker 1: captain abandoned his duty, and then he transformed into this monster.
[27:48] Speaker 3: Oh.
[27:48] Speaker 2: Yeah. She didn't show up for that day. I thought
[27:51] Speaker 2: it was all him who didn't show up.
[27:53] Speaker 1: No, it was her. Huh.
[27:55] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[27:56] Speaker 1: And then he's pissed.
[27:56] Speaker 2: So then he's pissed.
[27:57] Speaker 1: And he's like, well, I'm not doing this dumb job anymore.
[27:59] Speaker 2: Load away, dead people.
[28:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
[28:02] Speaker 3: Gotta wait another 10 years. And you're right. We have,
[28:04] Speaker 3: at this point, seen him being sad at the thing,
[28:07] Speaker 3: because that's how we learn that Davy Jones... is now
[28:10] Speaker 3: working for the company, right? Like he's working for the
[28:13] Speaker 3: East India trading company. He can barely even bring himself
[28:16] Speaker 3: to play his pipe organ anymore. He's got his sad
[28:19] Speaker 3: music box nearby and then it's like flashing. Oh, here's
[28:22] Speaker 3: Tia Dalma's music box. We'll figure out that they're in
[28:26] Speaker 3: on it together somehow. Who betrayed who? It takes a
[28:30] Speaker 3: long time to figure that out.
[28:31] Speaker 2: And as he's playing them, it is pretty cool to
[28:33] Speaker 2: see the tentacles be a character in and of themselves, right?
[28:36] Speaker 2: Like the teardrops. Oh, yeah. The tentacle goes up and
[28:39] Speaker 2: grabs it. And then as I guess it's Beckett shows
[28:43] Speaker 2: up and he's mad again. He's feisty. Then the tentacles.
[28:46] Speaker 2: Start flying all over the place, right? So it's cool.
[28:49] Speaker 2: Filming is cool.
[28:50] Speaker 1: Nora, in watching this one, she hadn't watched the previous
[28:53] Speaker 1: two Pirates of the Caribbean. Maybe she saw them 25
[28:55] Speaker 1: years ago or whatever. But so she's like, ask me
[28:58] Speaker 1: to fill it in. I'm like, oh my God, I'm
[28:59] Speaker 1: trying my best to like get her caught up to
[29:01] Speaker 1: speed here. And then she very quickly clocks. She goes, oh,
[29:05] Speaker 1: Tia Dalma, that's Calypso, eh?
[29:07] Speaker 3: I'm like.
[29:08] Speaker 1: Oh, well, maybe, what?
[29:10] Speaker 3: Hold on, is she?
[29:12] Speaker 1: I guess, yeah, it obviously comes to fruition that she is.
[29:15] Speaker 1: I was like, wow, how did you know that? Did
[29:17] Speaker 1: you remember that? Maybe she did somewhere in her brain,
[29:19] Speaker 1: but anyway, she was on it. So while departing though here,
[29:23] Speaker 1: Elizabeth sees her father, Governor Weatherby Swan's soul pass by
[29:29] Speaker 1: in a boat. He was murdered by Cutler Beckett after
[29:33] Speaker 1: Swan became suspicious about the heart and there was no
[29:38] Speaker 1: need for a governor anymore. And we saw that. That
[29:40] Speaker 1: was early. I mean, I skipped that scene, but he
[29:42] Speaker 1: was taken out on a boat from Lord Beckett's end.
[29:48] Speaker 3: Yeah. And like Norrington is working with Beckett as well.
[29:52] Speaker 3: They're talking about all these Execution orders.
[29:54] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[29:55] Speaker 3: We hear about the nine pieces of eight for the brethren.
[29:59] Speaker 3: Norrington gets his sword back.
[30:02] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[30:03] Speaker 3: His sword that we get in like the first two
[30:04] Speaker 3: scenes of the very first movie or something like that.
[30:06] Speaker 3: But yeah, daddy dies here at some point. I still
[30:11] Speaker 3: don't really know what happened to this guy. Like was
[30:13] Speaker 3: he hung as well? Probably.
[30:15] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[30:15] Speaker 1: I think so.
[30:16] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[30:17] Speaker 1: I think so.
[30:18] Speaker 4: Because there's this little throwaway, not a throwaway, but something about, Oh,
[30:22] Speaker 4: what am I signing here? Or there's something, there's something
[30:25] Speaker 4: about execution orders in Beckett's office and Jonathan price is there.
[30:31] Speaker 4: And yeah. This scene is really good.
[30:33] Speaker 1: I liked it.
[30:34] Speaker 2: It's really, really good. I was touched.
[30:36] Speaker 1: I was like, this is sad, man.
[30:37] Speaker 4: Jonathan Pryce and Keira Knightley.
[30:38] Speaker 2: He's dead.
[30:38] Speaker 4: I like this guy. Yeah, and Keira Knightley going crazy,
[30:42] Speaker 4: you know, grab the rope, blah, blah, blah. And he's like,
[30:46] Speaker 4: I'll give your regards to your mother and all that.
[30:48] Speaker 1: And the guy's a good actor.
[30:51] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[30:52] Speaker 2: He is good.
[30:52] Speaker 1: And I think here Governor Swan reveals that whoever stabs
[30:55] Speaker 1: Joan's heart becomes the Flying Dutchman's immortal captain. And so,
[31:01] Speaker 1: of course, Elizabeth is like, we'll get revenge, but this
[31:05] Speaker 1: is an important plot point here. Whoever does stab that
[31:08] Speaker 1: heart is ultimately going to become the next Davy Jones.
[31:11] Speaker 3: For a culture that seems to be really lawless, there's
[31:16] Speaker 3: a lot of ins and outs, and you have to
[31:19] Speaker 3: do this, and clauses. It's impossible to keep straight. So
[31:23] Speaker 3: Davy Jones, he's out on the sea for 10 years
[31:25] Speaker 3: at a time. A lot can change before he comes back.
[31:28] Speaker 2: He's like, what?
[31:29] Speaker 3: And that's why Jack didn't know he needed to have
[31:33] Speaker 3: his will in order.
[31:34] Speaker 1: If you are a pirate, you need a lawyer.
[31:37] Speaker 3: Absolutely.
[31:38] Speaker 1: That should be your second income. Maritime law, for sure. Yeah,
[31:41] Speaker 1: because there's just so many clauses and so many things
[31:44] Speaker 1: to know.
[31:44] Speaker 3: Okay, so just the Flying Dutchman has... If you stab
[31:52] Speaker 3: the heart, you have to take out your own heart
[31:53] Speaker 3: and then you're the captain of the Flying Dutchman forever.
[31:56] Speaker 3: But also you can hire somebody out and they have
[31:58] Speaker 3: to work on the Flying Dutchman for 13 years, which
[32:01] Speaker 3: we find out in the second movie. There's a lot
[32:04] Speaker 3: of ups and downs of who actually gets to be
[32:06] Speaker 3: in charge of it because it seems like it should
[32:08] Speaker 3: be a lifetime appointment until the next person comes by.
[32:11] Speaker 3: much like the Supreme Court, but apparently there's outs at
[32:14] Speaker 3: some point. That's why it's very confusing to me.
[32:16] Speaker 1: Very.
[32:17] Speaker 2: 100%.
[32:17] Speaker 1: Very confusing.
[32:18] Speaker 3: I do love when all those bodies are floating by.
[32:21] Speaker 3: We actually get names for the scumbag pirates, Rigetti and Pintel.
[32:25] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[32:25] Speaker 3: I think, right? One of them goes, I wonder what
[32:27] Speaker 3: would happen if you dropped a cannonball on one of them.
[32:30] Speaker 3: I was thinking the exact same thing. What would happen?
[32:36] Speaker 3: Tia told Michelle something like, nah.
[32:38] Speaker 1: That must be why they decided later on to put
[32:41] Speaker 1: a monkey in a cannon. They're like, I wonder what
[32:43] Speaker 1: will happen if we put this monkey in a cannon
[32:44] Speaker 1: and fire it. Let's just see what happens. Let's just
[32:46] Speaker 1: see what happens. They're just going to try things.
[32:48] Speaker 3: We're going to see forever.
[32:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, any thoughts here on the Governor Swan saying goodbye?
[32:54] Speaker 2: Wonderful, wonderful moment. Let me just, one thing I made
[32:59] Speaker 2: a note of previously when we were talking about Davy
[33:01] Speaker 2: Jones and the music box. So Tia touches her pendant.
[33:05] Speaker 2: That is an exact replica of the music box, right?
[33:08] Speaker 2: Those are the same.
[33:09] Speaker 1: I think so.
[33:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they are the exact same thing.
[33:13] Speaker 3: Like a BFF necklace. You buy two of them at
[33:15] Speaker 3: the same time.
[33:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, they're lovers.
[33:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, because they look the same. So that's all. Just
[33:20] Speaker 2: want to make that note.
[33:22] Speaker 1: So the Black Pearl, though, it remains trapped here in
[33:25] Speaker 1: the locker. And they are trying to figure out how
[33:28] Speaker 1: the hell to get out of here. And then Jack
[33:30] Speaker 1: Sparrow deciphers a clue on that rotating map. um, he's
[33:34] Speaker 1: just spins it around a little bit and then it
[33:36] Speaker 1: just sort of tells you what to do.
[33:38] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[33:39] Speaker 1: And he realizes the ship must be capsized to return
[33:42] Speaker 1: to the living world. So we get this scene here, um,
[33:46] Speaker 1: where they start rocking the boat running from one side
[33:50] Speaker 1: of the other. Yeah, that's right.
[33:51] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[33:52] Speaker 1: Why can't he just tell them, Hey, this is what
[33:53] Speaker 1: we should do.
[33:54] Speaker 2: It wouldn't be Jack Sparrow. And that's what I like
[33:58] Speaker 2: about this scene where it's, Up is down and he literally, yeah,
[34:01] Speaker 2: he could verbally go say it.
[34:03] Speaker 3: That's not cool.
[34:04] Speaker 2: He just takes it and does something with it. He
[34:07] Speaker 2: starts going from side to side to flip that thing
[34:09] Speaker 2: and then it looks awesome to see that thing film.
[34:14] Speaker 4: This whole part, yeah.
[34:14] Speaker 2: The camera flips upside down. So there's that part.
[34:18] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[34:19] Speaker 2: Jack being Jack. That's the only way Jack could do it.
[34:22] Speaker 1: The ship is overturned at sunset and up turns back
[34:25] Speaker 1: into the living world as the sun rises. And that's
[34:27] Speaker 1: where like the glee, the green flash marks their return here. But, JD,
[34:31] Speaker 1: were you a fan of getting the ship back to
[34:34] Speaker 1: the living world by having to capsize it and this
[34:36] Speaker 1: whole thing?
[34:36] Speaker 4: Yeah, and I would argue that it was probably the
[34:39] Speaker 4: most expeditious way to convince everybody to capsize the boat
[34:44] Speaker 4: that they're on. You know what I mean? Like otherwise
[34:47] Speaker 4: he's trying to explain, no, look, look at the map.
[34:50] Speaker 4: We got to flip our boat, our main vessel, our
[34:53] Speaker 4: main source of survival. We have to be upside down
[34:56] Speaker 4: and in the water. just fucking run back and forth
[34:58] Speaker 4: and flip the boat.
[35:00] Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
[35:00] Speaker 2: Because verbalizing wouldn't have worked.
[35:03] Speaker 4: You couldn't convince him. You don't have the pirate lawyer
[35:06] Speaker 4: on the boat to say, this is the way to
[35:10] Speaker 4: do it.
[35:10] Speaker 2: Yeah, they would just say to Jack, you're just... dumb
[35:13] Speaker 2: jack being dumb jack right if you verbalize right now
[35:16] Speaker 2: you gotta do.
[35:16] Speaker 1: It i'll give them respect here for like because there's
[35:19] Speaker 1: no way people running back and forth on the top
[35:21] Speaker 1: of this giant boat is going to capsize it but
[35:24] Speaker 1: they were like they went underneath they like you know
[35:27] Speaker 1: let go of all the barrels and cannons so at
[35:30] Speaker 1: least the weight is in theory rocking back and forth
[35:33] Speaker 1: too i was like okay yeah thank you thank you
[35:35] Speaker 1: for making it realistic um also captain jack sparrow would
[35:38] Speaker 1: be great in an escape room Because that was a
[35:41] Speaker 1: very escape room-like move.
[35:42] Speaker 3: That's true, yeah.
[35:43] Speaker 1: And then figuring it out. So, yeah, cool move.
[35:46] Speaker 3: And I like the map.
[35:48] Speaker 2: In general.
[35:48] Speaker 1: And that's cool.
[35:49] Speaker 2: Versus a Ouija board. It's way better.
[35:53] Speaker 1: Do you think they should have played Aaliyah's Rock the
[35:55] Speaker 1: Boat during this scene, though?
[35:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, they should have.
[36:01] Speaker 1: It would be the weirdest song to play with this.
[36:03] Speaker 3: Do it pirate style.
[36:04] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, maybe. All right, anything.
[36:07] Speaker 2: Else to add, TK? Rock the boat.
[36:08] Speaker 3: Rock the boat.
[36:10] Speaker 1: I want you to rock the boat.
[36:12] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[36:14] Speaker 2: Uh, yeah.
[36:14] Speaker 3: Tia Dalma, we find out loves Davy Jones. And that's
[36:16] Speaker 3: why I remember we were recording the second one. I
[36:18] Speaker 3: was like, that scene plays a lot different when you know,
[36:20] Speaker 3: Tia and Davy are lovers at some point.
[36:24] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[36:25] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[36:26] Speaker 2: Okay.
[36:26] Speaker 1: Well the crew, uh, get out of there. They are
[36:29] Speaker 1: back into the living world and they decide they got
[36:32] Speaker 1: to stop at a small Island, restock supplies because they're
[36:35] Speaker 1: low on everything. And this is where they find the carcass.
[36:38] Speaker 1: of the kraken washed up yeah just there and again
[36:41] Speaker 1: so sad and i guess jack uh in seeing the
[36:44] Speaker 1: dead kraken realizes whoa yeah this beckett guy he's serious
[36:48] Speaker 1: he's bad there's a real threat here maybe we do
[36:50] Speaker 1: have to have this brethren.
[36:51] Speaker 3: Court yeah why wouldn't um why wouldn't beckett want to
[36:56] Speaker 3: keep the kraken active to me it seems like the
[37:00] Speaker 3: most vicious yeah weapon in this.
[37:02] Speaker 1: World Well, we debated in the last one maybe this
[37:05] Speaker 1: idea of like, can you really control it?
[37:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's the question.
[37:08] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[37:10] Speaker 4: I mean, I mean, yeah. I thought that's, what's his face,
[37:16] Speaker 4: tentacle face? Is that Davy Jones?
[37:17] Speaker 2: Davy Jones.
[37:19] Speaker 4: That was his source of his power, right? Like he
[37:20] Speaker 4: had this weapon of mass destruction, basically, that he had
[37:24] Speaker 4: control of. That's why they wanted to, you know, stop him.
[37:28] Speaker 4: The whole point is to control the Kraken and then
[37:31] Speaker 4: that goes away and now you just got to, A
[37:33] Speaker 4: powerful ship, like the Flying Dutchman is powerful. There's only
[37:37] Speaker 4: one ship in the ocean that's faster, and that's the
[37:40] Speaker 4: Black Pearl. But it's still, you know, a menacing vehicle,
[37:45] Speaker 4: I guess. But yeah, it's weird.
[37:48] Speaker 1: I think they were just like, we've already got a
[37:49] Speaker 1: lot of money in this movie. We can't do the
[37:51] Speaker 1: Kraken again.
[37:52] Speaker 4: We've got a massive toilet flush to CGI, so we've
[37:56] Speaker 4: got to get rid of the Kraken.
[37:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Uh, okay. So on this Island here, after
[38:01] Speaker 1: they see the crack in there, uh, further in, I guess, uh,
[38:04] Speaker 1: they're ambushed by South thing who reveals his secret agreement
[38:09] Speaker 1: with will. However, and this is right around the time
[38:14] Speaker 1: I closed the laptop. He also betrays will having made
[38:17] Speaker 1: another deal with Cutler Beckett to hand over the crew
[38:21] Speaker 1: and keep the black Pearl. So just this idea, this, this, uh,
[38:24] Speaker 1: This is long.
[38:25] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
[38:27] Speaker 1: Deals are just... You made a deal. It doesn't mean anything.
[38:30] Speaker 1: It's the weirdest thing in this pirate world. It means
[38:32] Speaker 1: everything and nothing all at the same time. You said
[38:35] Speaker 1: this is long.
[38:36] Speaker 2: Well, yeah. They're cutting between the deals. Yes. It's just
[38:41] Speaker 2: literally cutting from one to the other. It's like seven,
[38:43] Speaker 2: eight minutes before the fight breaks out. So that's just... Yeah.
[38:46] Speaker 2: Just very, very, very long.
[38:48] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[38:49] Speaker 2: When.
[38:50] Speaker 3: We get towards the like the last week at the
[38:52] Speaker 3: NBA season. People will be like, here are the playoffs scenarios.
[38:56] Speaker 3: If this team wins, this team gets the sixth seed
[38:58] Speaker 3: and this team gets the fourth seed. And that means
[39:01] Speaker 3: we're looking at four or five. I'm like, just tell
[39:03] Speaker 3: me who's playing who at the end. And that's how
[39:06] Speaker 3: I feel with this scene. Like when they finally split
[39:08] Speaker 3: up and we know which two captains are going with
[39:11] Speaker 3: which two captains. Like, OK, good. That explains it a
[39:14] Speaker 3: little bit to me because the ins and the outs.
[39:17] Speaker 3: I don't get it. I'm like, okay, okay. Everybody wants Elizabeth.
[39:21] Speaker 3: They think maybe she's Calypso. They don't know yet, these fools.
[39:25] Speaker 3: Cao Feng is still around for a little bit. Beckett,
[39:28] Speaker 3: he'll take any information he can get. He'll take any
[39:30] Speaker 3: pirate artifact he can get. He's like, give me the compass.
[39:33] Speaker 3: Give me, give me the heart of Davy Jones. I'll
[39:36] Speaker 3: take it all. And then I'll destroy it all. That's
[39:38] Speaker 3: all he wants to do. So I just need to
[39:40] Speaker 3: know what's happening at the end. And that's what we get.
[39:42] Speaker 3: The Dutchman chases South Fang and Beckett chases the Pearl.
[39:47] Speaker 4: I'm going to defend the convolutedness a bit. I think
[39:51] Speaker 4: it's a good exercise in writing when there's so many characters, right?
[39:56] Speaker 4: And a lot of characters that are, frankly, for the
[39:59] Speaker 4: amount of characters that this movie has, they're pretty well
[40:01] Speaker 4: fleshed out, most of them, right? At least you have
[40:04] Speaker 4: a sense of who they are.
[40:06] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[40:06] Speaker 3: And then.
[40:07] Speaker 1: Can I jump in there, though?
[40:08] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[40:08] Speaker 1: What is Beckett's problem with pirates so much? I think
[40:12] Speaker 1: he's just... Because we don't really get an explanation for
[40:14] Speaker 1: why he is so hell-bent on eliminating them all.
[40:17] Speaker 2: Well.
[40:18] Speaker 4: I think he's a snob. I think it just literally
[40:20] Speaker 4: boils down to that. He just thinks that he, that
[40:23] Speaker 4: it's all beneath him because every time there's a big
[40:27] Speaker 4: fight or something happening, he's just having his tea, you know,
[40:30] Speaker 4: in this really fine China, you know?
[40:32] Speaker 2: Okay.
[40:32] Speaker 3: Okay.
[40:33] Speaker 4: I think that's what it boils down to now. Yeah.
[40:36] Speaker 4: That for him being the big bad, he is not
[40:39] Speaker 4: very well fleshed out. Not really. Yeah. He's just sort of, uh.
[40:42] Speaker 1: He's a great character though. He's a perfect snob and like, yeah,
[40:46] Speaker 1: but you're like, why man?
[40:48] Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. And I think that's why his death unfolds
[40:50] Speaker 4: the way it does, because he's just he he is
[40:53] Speaker 4: above it all right up until the end. And he
[40:56] Speaker 4: can't fucking fathom that anyone would betray him. And this
[40:59] Speaker 4: whole movie is about betrayal.
[41:00] Speaker 2: Yes.
[41:01] Speaker 4: And that's what I'm saying. Like that. these characters are
[41:04] Speaker 4: all clamoring over one another to have one up and
[41:09] Speaker 4: the leverage points shift constantly, right? So I have the
[41:13] Speaker 4: compass so that I'm above you, but I got the squid,
[41:15] Speaker 4: but no, the squid's dead, you know? And so it
[41:18] Speaker 4: just goes up and down like that. I think it's
[41:20] Speaker 4: way too much and way overwritten, but it's still pretty
[41:24] Speaker 4: well written. You know what I mean?
[41:26] Speaker 1: I hear you.
[41:28] Speaker 4: I hear you. It's a good example of like flipping
[41:32] Speaker 4: things Somebody on their head. Again, this whole thing is
[41:35] Speaker 4: about betrayal, and it's all about lying to somebody, but
[41:38] Speaker 4: we love Survivor, and this is basically Survivor, right?
[41:42] Speaker 1: That's a great point.
[41:44] Speaker 2: So anyway. And Cao Feng is that Survivor contestant that
[41:50] Speaker 2: can be swung. Because it's not that convoluted for him.
[41:53] Speaker 2: It's just like, he thinks he's going to be on
[41:56] Speaker 2: the winning team.
[41:56] Speaker 1: I just want to survive. I just want a chance
[41:59] Speaker 1: to pitch my case at a final tribal council.
[42:02] Speaker 3: As long as it ain't me.
[42:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, he plays a Sandra game for sure.
[42:05] Speaker 2: He waits for everybody else to bicker and he's like, okay,
[42:07] Speaker 2: that's what I got to do.
[42:08] Speaker 4: Yeah, but he also is a survivor character that has
[42:12] Speaker 4: no idea what's going on, or thinks he knows what's happening,
[42:15] Speaker 4: but is completely wrong.
[42:16] Speaker 1: I mean, he immediately gets double-crossed by Beckett, like, soon
[42:18] Speaker 1: after that. So, yeah, he doesn't know. So the Endeavor arrives,
[42:23] Speaker 1: and Jack Sparrow is taken aboard that ship, although he refuses,
[42:28] Speaker 1: Jack does, to divulge to Beckett where the Brethren Court
[42:31] Speaker 1: is going to convene. He won't give up that information. Instead,
[42:34] Speaker 1: Jack manufactures a deal to lead Beckett to where the
[42:38] Speaker 1: pirates will convene and lure them out for Beckett to
[42:41] Speaker 1: destroy them in exchange for Beckett protecting him from Davy Jones.
[42:46] Speaker 1: Everybody is just making these deals with Beckett saying, I'll
[42:48] Speaker 1: do this. Just when you sick Davy Jones on all
[42:51] Speaker 1: the pirates, I'm cool.
[42:53] Speaker 2: Right? Yes.
[42:54] Speaker 1: I don't know why you'd ever trust them at this point.
[42:56] Speaker 3: No, no, no, no.
[42:57] Speaker 1: But everybody does. They seem to at first, at least.
[42:59] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[42:59] Speaker 3: Beckett's the meat shield, I guess.
[43:01] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[43:01] Speaker 3: You got the power right now. You want immunity. You've
[43:05] Speaker 3: got the compass. This is a, obviously a big, Thing
[43:09] Speaker 3: to get. So, yeah, we'll try and make deals with
[43:11] Speaker 3: this guy because as the company, you assume at least
[43:14] Speaker 3: they have the resources to back things up. And that's
[43:18] Speaker 3: why everybody has to join up together to vote him out.
[43:21] Speaker 2: Right.
[43:21] Speaker 1: So Feng is double crossed by Beckett. Feng bargains with
[43:24] Speaker 1: Barbossa now to release the pearl in exchange for Elizabeth,
[43:28] Speaker 1: who Feng believes is Calypso. Why? Yeah, this is the part.
[43:34] Speaker 1: Where did that come from?
[43:36] Speaker 4: I missed it. Tess, you're locked in, man. I have
[43:40] Speaker 4: no answer for that question.
[43:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, it was so out of nowhere. At some point,
[43:43] Speaker 1: Barbossa does say, we have Calypso.
[43:46] Speaker 4: Right.
[43:49] Speaker 3: Barbossa has at least let them know Calypso is on
[43:51] Speaker 3: our ship.
[43:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, okay.
[43:53] Speaker 3: And I think Salfang's just like, woman, must be her.
[43:57] Speaker 3: Who else could it possibly be?
[43:59] Speaker 2: The other woman?
[44:00] Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right.
[44:01] Speaker 3: I mean, at that point, take them both, I would say.
[44:03] Speaker 3: Just to be safe.
[44:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
[44:06] Speaker 1: So Fang attacks the Endeavor. This allows Jack to escape
[44:11] Speaker 1: aboard his warship. Fang tells Elizabeth that the First Brethren
[44:14] Speaker 1: Court trapped Calypso into human form so men could rule
[44:17] Speaker 1: the seas. We learned that. Then we have Davy Jones
[44:21] Speaker 1: attacking Fang's ship. This is part where it is... I'm
[44:25] Speaker 1: with you, JD, even on like all these betrayals. And
[44:27] Speaker 1: it's like when you really zoom out or you, I guess,
[44:29] Speaker 1: really dig in, you're like, wow, it does all make sense.
[44:31] Speaker 1: At least as convoluted as it is, it sort of
[44:34] Speaker 1: makes sense. Even all these battles and people moving ships,
[44:37] Speaker 1: it's like it actually all makes sense. But holy crap,
[44:41] Speaker 1: is it tough to follow?
[44:42] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[44:42] Speaker 1: You got to watch it like feels like three times
[44:44] Speaker 1: just to make sense. But Fang is wounded by a cannonball.
[44:48] Speaker 1: And this is where he appoints Elizabeth as the new
[44:50] Speaker 1: captain and the pirate lord of the South China Sea,
[44:53] Speaker 1: I guess. but then she and her crew are imprisoned
[44:57] Speaker 1: in the flying Dutchman's brig. And I think it's here
[45:01] Speaker 1: where she talks to bootstrap and she realizes he's losing it.
[45:05] Speaker 4: Right.
[45:05] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[45:05] Speaker 1: He's just like, I guess it's got dementia.
[45:08] Speaker 2: I guess.
[45:08] Speaker 3: Yeah. He's become part of the ship. He's like a
[45:10] Speaker 3: ship man at this point. His brain is stuck in
[45:13] Speaker 3: the thing. She realizes he's going nuts because they had
[45:17] Speaker 3: the whole conversation. Bootstrap can't believe that Elizabeth knows who
[45:21] Speaker 3: he is. They talk. And then he's like, you know
[45:24] Speaker 3: my name?
[45:25] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[45:25] Speaker 3: Oh, no.
[45:26] Speaker 1: Dementia. Yeah, yeah.
[45:28] Speaker 3: That's bad. And I mean, it's going to happen if
[45:30] Speaker 3: your whole body is getting infested with barnacles. He's got
[45:33] Speaker 3: barnacles in the brain, as you can tell. Barnacle Bill.
[45:37] Speaker 3: Barnacle Bill, Bootstrap Bill. But I was like, wow, man,
[45:41] Speaker 3: another character. We're like an hour and a half in.
[45:43] Speaker 3: We're like, don't forget about Bootstrap.
[45:45] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[45:46] Speaker 1: And don't forget about Admiral James Norrington as well.
[45:49] Speaker 2: He's doing his best.
[45:49] Speaker 1: He's going to come into play here in a second.
[45:51] Speaker 1: We saw him earlier, but yeah. He'll have his big
[45:54] Speaker 1: moment in the sun here. This was a lot. Anything
[45:58] Speaker 1: to add?
[46:00] Speaker 2: I don't think so. No, I can't wait to get
[46:03] Speaker 2: to Shipwreck Cove. I just can't wait.
[46:06] Speaker 1: Okay, okay, okay.
[46:07] Speaker 2: I mean, that's happening soon, right?
[46:08] Speaker 1: We're close, we're close, yeah.
[46:09] Speaker 3: This is basically Elizabeth is finding out that Will is
[46:12] Speaker 3: going to have to choose between saving Bootstrap and then
[46:18] Speaker 3: becoming the... Captain of the Dutchman or marrying Elizabeth, right? Like,
[46:23] Speaker 3: or staying with Elizabeth. So I'm thinking, like, would you
[46:27] Speaker 3: actually want to be the captain of the Dutchman? Because
[46:29] Speaker 3: there's a few people vying for it. Like, Davy Jones
[46:31] Speaker 3: doesn't want to give it up.
[46:32] Speaker 2: No.
[46:33] Speaker 3: Will is thinking about it. He eventually becomes the captain
[46:36] Speaker 3: of the Dutchman. Jack is considering being the captain of
[46:38] Speaker 3: the Dutchman. It is good job security.
[46:41] Speaker 2: Yes.
[46:41] Speaker 3: Lifetime appointment.
[46:42] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[46:44] Speaker 3: But, you know, you're only on land once every 10 years.
[46:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's an issue.
[46:47] Speaker 3: And your whole... faces made of barnacles.
[46:50] Speaker 4: But hold on is it i thought that they became
[46:54] Speaker 4: all fishy because they weren't doing the job properly oh.
[46:58] Speaker 1: So you think you could do it the right way
[46:59] Speaker 1: they became monsters yeah.
[47:01] Speaker 4: Yeah because when we see orlando bloom yes sorry to
[47:04] Speaker 4: skip ahead but 10 years later post-credits he's fine he's
[47:07] Speaker 4: completely fine but he's.
[47:08] Speaker 1: Because he's doing the job of ferrying the dead people
[47:10] Speaker 1: back and.
[47:11] Speaker 4: Forth presumably that's why yeah so he's just a great
[47:15] Speaker 4: Taxi driver or Uber.
[47:16] Speaker 2: That's right.
[47:17] Speaker 4: He's a great escort.
[47:18] Speaker 2: Or the other.
[47:18] Speaker 3: Shuttle driver, yeah. I can take you from death to
[47:22] Speaker 3: the locker.
[47:23] Speaker 2: That's right. Isn't that also shown when Tia touches Davy
[47:27] Speaker 2: Jones that he goes back to normal form? Yeah. Yeah.
[47:29] Speaker 4: To see Bill May for a second.
[47:31] Speaker 2: That was cool. Like this is how you would be. Right.
[47:34] Speaker 2: If you weren't effing up. Yeah. And.
[47:37] Speaker 4: But I wouldn't be effing up if you had showed up.
[47:40] Speaker 4: We had one date.
[47:41] Speaker 2: Come on now.
[47:43] Speaker 3: Great point.
[47:45] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[47:46] Speaker 1: So also aboard, because we're talking about the Flying Dutchman
[47:50] Speaker 1: here in the brig, and that's where Elizabeth is talking
[47:52] Speaker 1: to Bootstrap and all that. Also aboard there is Admiral
[47:54] Speaker 1: James Norrington, who ends up freeing Elizabeth. And her crew.
[47:59] Speaker 1: And her crew is basically Fang's crew.
[48:01] Speaker 2: Yes.
[48:02] Speaker 1: Because she is now the pirate lord of that squad.
[48:05] Speaker 1: That squadron.
[48:06] Speaker 4: Yes.
[48:07] Speaker 1: So Norrington feels bad. All of his prior actions in
[48:10] Speaker 1: prior movies. And he's like, I'll let you out here.
[48:14] Speaker 1: And he helps him escape across like a rope to
[48:17] Speaker 1: another ship. But Norrington is killed by Bill. Norrington is
[48:21] Speaker 1: killed by Bill.
[48:22] Speaker 2: Cuckoo. He's gone nuts.
[48:24] Speaker 1: They kiss, don't they?
[48:26] Speaker 3: Do they kiss?
[48:26] Speaker 1: Do they kiss?
[48:27] Speaker 3: Norrington and.
[48:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, they kiss.
[48:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, she kisses everybody.
[48:30] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[48:30] Speaker 2: She got a lot of kisses. Yeah, exactly. And she
[48:33] Speaker 2: tries to kiss Jack Sparrow at the end, and he resists? Yeah.
[48:38] Speaker 2: At the end?
[48:38] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, he does, sort of.
[48:40] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. She tries to get three kisses in in
[48:43] Speaker 2: this movie.
[48:43] Speaker 3: Well, she actually.
[48:44] Speaker 2: In this particular movie, she kisses... And Fang kisses.
[48:46] Speaker 1: Her, too. That wasn't her. That was Fang putting himself
[48:49] Speaker 1: on her.
[48:49] Speaker 4: That's right.
[48:50] Speaker 2: They kiss. Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[48:51] Speaker 1: It's really four.
[48:51] Speaker 2: So it's really four, because she got a will... um
[48:55] Speaker 2: obviously that one there plus in norrington yeah it's busy uh.
[49:02] Speaker 3: But but look daddy's kept her locked up for a
[49:04] Speaker 3: long yeah that's true and then but norrington shoots the
[49:07] Speaker 3: rope so so she can get across yeah yeah so
[49:12] Speaker 3: she saves her he saves her yes in turn yeah
[49:14] Speaker 3: and what's he's like uh our fates are intertwined but
[49:17] Speaker 3: never linked or whatever like that he's like we've been
[49:22] Speaker 3: going around each other for quite some time here. Obviously,
[49:25] Speaker 3: I'm third in line. You love Jack and you're going
[49:28] Speaker 3: to settle for Will. I could be in the mix too,
[49:31] Speaker 3: but I'll take my third and I'll let your father-in-law
[49:35] Speaker 3: stab me in the heart. Tough stuff for Norrington, but
[49:38] Speaker 3: I think a decent arc for this guy.
[49:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[49:41] Speaker 3: He could have been Lord Cutler Beckett in another world,
[49:44] Speaker 3: and instead he's just dying on a barnacle ship.
[49:46] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[49:46] Speaker 3: I think that's better for him.
[49:48] Speaker 1: What do you think of Norrington's death here and our
[49:50] Speaker 1: goodbye to the Admiral?
[49:52] Speaker 4: One down, 85 to go, you know? That's a lot
[49:56] Speaker 4: of characters to go through. And this movie, this series,
[50:01] Speaker 4: I don't believe anybody's actually dead, you know?
[50:04] Speaker 1: Well, that's an issue.
[50:05] Speaker 2: That's a bit of a problem. Yeah.
[50:06] Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, well, you're just in the locker. Now
[50:08] Speaker 1: we know how to get there.
[50:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
[50:10] Speaker 4: We have a map.
[50:11] Speaker 1: We'll come get you.
[50:12] Speaker 3: Flip it over.
[50:13] Speaker 1: So, okay. So right now at this point in the movie,
[50:17] Speaker 1: three main people are dead, right? Governor.
[50:19] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[50:20] Speaker 2: Fang. Yes.
[50:22] Speaker 1: And now Norrington. Do I have the three?
[50:24] Speaker 4: I think it's a stretch to call Fang a main character.
[50:27] Speaker 1: Hey, he was a pirate lord, man.
[50:28] Speaker 2: He was.
[50:30] Speaker 4: One of the eight, one of nine or whatever.
[50:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[50:34] Speaker 2: Okay.
[50:35] Speaker 3: I guess he basically was there so that Elizabeth could
[50:39] Speaker 3: get a spot at the table.
[50:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, 100%. Yeah.
[50:41] Speaker 4: And wear a cool hat.
[50:43] Speaker 3: And get a cool hat.
[50:44] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[50:44] Speaker 1: So, okay. Meanwhile, Will is leaving a trail of, of
[50:49] Speaker 1: floating corpses for Beckett's ship to follow. That's what he
[50:52] Speaker 1: is doing here. These little breadcrumbs. And, you know, I mean, look,
[50:58] Speaker 1: Will throughout this movie, this guy, this guy's gone full Jack, really.
[51:02] Speaker 1: He's gone full pirate.
[51:03] Speaker 2: For sure. Right.
[51:03] Speaker 1: And he's really adopted the life. And these are the
[51:06] Speaker 1: things you got to do out there on the water.
[51:07] Speaker 1: So Sparrow though, catches Will. And okay. He gives him
[51:13] Speaker 1: the magical compass and, So then throws him overboard. So
[51:18] Speaker 1: then Beckett will then find Shipwreck Cove. Is that what's
[51:23] Speaker 1: going on here? Is that the thinking from Jack?
[51:26] Speaker 4: I believe so.
[51:27] Speaker 1: Because he tossed him over, so then Will would be
[51:29] Speaker 1: found by Beckett's ship and would have the compass to
[51:32] Speaker 1: then get them?
[51:33] Speaker 4: Yes.
[51:33] Speaker 2: Okay.
[51:34] Speaker 3: I mean, he doesn't actually toss him overboard. He breaths
[51:37] Speaker 3: him overboard.
[51:38] Speaker 4: Oh, yeah!
[51:38] Speaker 2: That's right.
[51:39] Speaker 4: Whoa!
[51:41] Speaker 3: Falls over.
[51:43] Speaker 2: Yeah!
[51:43] Speaker 3: And, you know, Will has been trying to do this anyways,
[51:46] Speaker 3: so I guess, like, he didn't probably want to get
[51:48] Speaker 3: as wet as he did. He was probably a little
[51:49] Speaker 3: scary in the in-between time from the Pearl to the
[51:53] Speaker 3: Endeavor or whatever the name of Beckett's ship is. But
[51:56] Speaker 3: this was the whole point for Will, right? It was like,
[51:58] Speaker 3: we're going to be tracking him. Follow me to Shipwreck Cove.
[52:02] Speaker 3: So he doesn't matter either way.
[52:03] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[52:04] Speaker 2: Right. Yeah. But the blow was very confusing. That's where
[52:07] Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, did I miss something where it's tied
[52:10] Speaker 2: in as soon as Jack blows?
[52:14] Speaker 3: These people look like they stink yeah, and everybody's teeth
[52:21] Speaker 3: is completely black everybody's fingernails Are totally black and this
[52:25] Speaker 3: was the first time it felt like people like little
[52:26] Speaker 3: stinky guy But maybe you would be used to it
[52:30] Speaker 3: at that point, but that's why I mean Will's got
[52:31] Speaker 3: to be stinky as hell, too Yeah, I mean Jack
[52:35] Speaker 3: Jack was in Davy Jones's locker for a while. Oh
[52:38] Speaker 3: Imagine what that does on your dental hygiene.
[52:40] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[52:41] Speaker 1: I think it's just a gag.
[52:42] Speaker 4: It's 100%.
[52:43] Speaker 1: Because this is not a very funny movie.
[52:46] Speaker 4: Not as funny as... As some of the other ones, right?
[52:48] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[52:49] Speaker 4: But that's fine because, you know, it's the third in
[52:52] Speaker 4: the trilogy. They want to get darker and bigger and
[52:54] Speaker 4: all that stuff.
[52:55] Speaker 2: You're right. They're just leaning on a Jack joke. Yeah.
[52:57] Speaker 2: That's what they're leaning on.
[52:58] Speaker 4: I thought I found... not to harp on this, but
[53:01] Speaker 4: I found Jack basically, you know, we mentioned before we
[53:05] Speaker 4: started recording, he's not really in the movie a lot
[53:08] Speaker 4: as much as you would think. And I didn't, all
[53:11] Speaker 4: of his humor, it didn't really land for me this
[53:14] Speaker 4: time for some reason. I don't know why, but, uh,
[53:16] Speaker 4: also Jack, basically Jack will and Elizabeth. They're the only
[53:21] Speaker 4: ones with white teeth in the whole movie. Right. Uh, Norrington.
[53:26] Speaker 2: True.
[53:26] Speaker 4: But for the pirates, on the pirate side?
[53:29] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[53:30] Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, he would be the third worst breath
[53:36] Speaker 4: on that boat.
[53:38] Speaker 1: I'm just wondering if, like, it's like they just did
[53:40] Speaker 1: the gag of bad breath, so it's not him actually
[53:44] Speaker 1: chucking Will over.
[53:45] Speaker 2: Right.
[53:46] Speaker 1: Like, it looks... To us as the audience, like, oh, okay,
[53:50] Speaker 1: that's a little, hey, man, that's a little malicious.
[53:52] Speaker 3: Yeah, right. Okay.
[53:53] Speaker 1: Maybe.
[53:54] Speaker 4: Okay, how about this? They weren't together for that scene.
[53:59] Speaker 2: Interesting.
[54:00] Speaker 1: Oh.
[54:00] Speaker 4: So how are we going to get him to get
[54:03] Speaker 4: off the boat? But Johnny Depp and Orlando are not
[54:07] Speaker 4: available on the same day.
[54:08] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, maybe. It's possible.
[54:10] Speaker 4: It's possible.
[54:11] Speaker 2: I'm sorry if I am forgetting something from the second one,
[54:13] Speaker 2: but is this a callback, the way Will falls off
[54:16] Speaker 2: the boat?
[54:18] Speaker 1: I don't think so.
[54:20] Speaker 2: When they do the walk with the canoe over their heads,
[54:25] Speaker 2: it feels like that was preceded by Will falling in
[54:29] Speaker 2: for some reason. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm wrong. There's
[54:32] Speaker 2: just too many things happening. But I do agree that
[54:35] Speaker 2: the jokes for Jack are just, they are not the same.
[54:39] Speaker 2: The first couple ones are about They're about Jack, and
[54:42] Speaker 2: this is just all plot.
[54:44] Speaker 1: So many jokes in this for Jack, and I put
[54:46] Speaker 1: jokes in air quotes, are like him and Barbossa going, yes, no, yes, no, yes.
[54:52] Speaker 1: How many times they do that?
[54:53] Speaker 3: Or Jack has a tiny penis, a.k.a. a telescope, so
[54:58] Speaker 3: then he gets a bigger one. These two beefing with
[55:01] Speaker 3: each other over who's actually in charge of the ships.
[55:03] Speaker 2: Right, right, right, right. There's no way he got that
[55:06] Speaker 2: big a telescope. I mean, why would he just use
[55:10] Speaker 2: it all of a sudden? You know, it doesn't make sense.
[55:13] Speaker 1: So at this point, I believe it's revealed to us
[55:17] Speaker 1: that Davy Jones masterminded Calypso's imprisonment by the first pirate Lords.
[55:24] Speaker 1: Cause you know, he was, he's scorned. He's pissed.
[55:27] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[55:28] Speaker 1: So we learned that little piece of lore here. Shipwreck Island,
[55:33] Speaker 1: Cove Island, whatever we're calling it.
[55:34] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[55:36] Speaker 1: The nine pirate Lords. Introduce themselves and present the nine
[55:41] Speaker 1: pieces of eight.
[55:42] Speaker 2: I mean, as they get there, that's pretty cool. The
[55:45] Speaker 2: pile of boats. When do you see a pile of
[55:47] Speaker 2: boats as a scene? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. They just
[55:49] Speaker 2: don't make shipwreck coves like they used to. You know
[55:54] Speaker 2: what I mean?
[55:55] Speaker 1: 100%.
[55:55] Speaker 2: That's a pretty awesome shot. Before they get in. I
[55:57] Speaker 2: like that.
[55:58] Speaker 1: I don't even think I realized that's what that was.
[56:00] Speaker 2: They were all.
[56:02] Speaker 4: Just stacked up ships.
[56:03] Speaker 1: Shipwrecks, I did not even realize that.
[56:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, at first.
[56:06] Speaker 1: Because all the lanterns and stuff are on. Yeah, okay.
[56:09] Speaker 2: At first you look at it and you're like, okay.
[56:10] Speaker 2: I just, yeah. Yeah, this is the cove. And then
[56:13] Speaker 2: you start to think, how many shipwrecks have there been?
[56:15] Speaker 2: I guess it's been many, many years. Oh, interesting.
[56:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, that was cool.
[56:19] Speaker 3: And Gibbs says something. He's like, we're here at Shipwreck
[56:22] Speaker 3: Island on Shipwreck Cove in the city of Shipwreck.
[56:27] Speaker 1: Come on, guy. So, yeah, we get the nine pirate lords.
[56:32] Speaker 1: And again, these nine pieces of eight, who, by the way,
[56:35] Speaker 1: I mean, one-eyed Gareth here, right? He ends up stealing
[56:37] Speaker 1: them all.
[56:38] Speaker 4: One-eyed Gareth.
[56:39] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[56:41] Speaker 3: His eye is the piece of eight for Barbossa.
[56:44] Speaker 1: He gets it back.
[56:45] Speaker 2: He was storing it in his eye socket.
[56:48] Speaker 1: So they have this meeting, and there's a lot to this,
[56:51] Speaker 1: but when the pirate lords are told the reason for
[56:53] Speaker 1: the meeting, they basically all break out into a disagreement
[56:56] Speaker 1: over whether or not they're going to free Calypso and
[56:59] Speaker 1: whether or not they're going to fight. And everybody's got
[57:01] Speaker 1: an opinion, right? And here is where Barbossa calls upon
[57:06] Speaker 1: Captain Teague Sparrow. And it's Keith Richards. I could not
[57:11] Speaker 1: believe it.
[57:12] Speaker 2: Oh, so that was his name, Teague Sparrow? It is.
[57:14] Speaker 1: It is his dad.
[57:15] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[57:16] Speaker 1: And he says move, boy, or something. I'm like, okay,
[57:19] Speaker 1: it's probably his dad. Yeah, and this guy's keeper of
[57:22] Speaker 1: the codex, I guess. But he's also Jack's father. And
[57:26] Speaker 1: he confirms, because there's always rules. Yeah, there can only
[57:29] Speaker 1: be one pirate king to declare a war. So you'd
[57:32] Speaker 1: have to vote on that. And that's where Elizabeth is
[57:34] Speaker 1: elected pirate king, because... Everybody votes for themselves, except Jack
[57:39] Speaker 1: Sparrow votes for Elizabeth. So that breaks the stalemate.
[57:42] Speaker 2: Yep.
[57:42] Speaker 3: Two votes to....
[57:46] Speaker 1: Seven tell me when you saw that survivor vote.
[57:51] Speaker 3: Yeah but look you saw how big that book was
[57:56] Speaker 3: the pirate code is a literal book yep uh controlled
[57:59] Speaker 3: by keith richard where the biggest hat we've seen we've
[58:02] Speaker 3: seen the biggest hat so far but he's got the
[58:04] Speaker 3: giant hat he's got the giant book so that explains
[58:07] Speaker 3: why there's so many clauses to all this kind of
[58:09] Speaker 3: stuff there's like thousands of pages and the pages are
[58:12] Speaker 3: as big as a blueprint.
[58:13] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[58:14] Speaker 3: Tough to keep straight.
[58:15] Speaker 1: JD, did you pop when you realized it was Keith
[58:17] Speaker 1: Richards or did you know Keith Richards was in this?
[58:19] Speaker 4: It took me a minute to realize that it was him. Uh,
[58:22] Speaker 4: till he basically picked up the guitar and started playing.
[58:26] Speaker 1: We really need to make this clear. This is Keith
[58:29] Speaker 1: Richards because it's, he just sort of looks like a
[58:31] Speaker 1: creepy pirate.
[58:32] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[58:32] Speaker 1: So let him play the guitar.
[58:34] Speaker 4: Huge blown opportunity for some, uh, uh, uh, product placement.
[58:38] Speaker 2: Right.
[58:38] Speaker 4: It should have been Captain Morgan Sparrow because he looks
[58:41] Speaker 4: like Captain Morgan.
[58:42] Speaker 2: Right.
[58:44] Speaker 4: And he's boozy anyways. I mean, all they do is
[58:46] Speaker 4: talk about rum in this series.
[58:48] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[58:49] Speaker 4: But, uh, Oh, well, Teague, I guess. But he's pretty good.
[58:53] Speaker 4: Keith Richards, I mean, he didn't have much to do
[58:56] Speaker 4: except be Keith Richards. But once you get the dreads
[59:00] Speaker 4: and the beads and the hat.
[59:02] Speaker 1: Fit right in.
[59:03] Speaker 2: He was.
[59:04] Speaker 1: That's funny, right? They only put him in because everybody
[59:06] Speaker 1: was like, oh, Johnny Depp's doing a version of Keith Richards.
[59:10] Speaker 4: That's what we talked about. Johnny Depp even called Keith
[59:12] Speaker 4: Richards before the first one came out and said, hey,
[59:15] Speaker 4: by the way, I just did this movie and I'm
[59:17] Speaker 4: basically doing you, so don't get mad.
[59:20] Speaker 2: He definitely was. That's how I realized it was him
[59:24] Speaker 2: because I had read about him and Jack Sparrow and
[59:27] Speaker 2: Johnny Depp in the first couple of acting like Keith Richards.
[59:30] Speaker 2: That's how it clicked to me. I didn't realize he
[59:32] Speaker 2: was his dad at all while watching it with Danielle.
[59:34] Speaker 2: She said, who was that? Do you realize? Did you
[59:38] Speaker 2: realize who that was? And I said, no, it didn't click.
[59:42] Speaker 2: At first, I didn't hear Teague Sparrow. I didn't hear,
[59:44] Speaker 2: is he the one who says, how's mom doing? Or
[59:47] Speaker 2: is Jack says that to Keith?
[59:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, and he holds her up.
[59:50] Speaker 2: The face, the shrunken head. Yeah, so Danielle said, this
[59:54] Speaker 2: takes you forever to deduce things.
[59:57] Speaker 3: Okay.
[59:58] Speaker 2: It's a two hour and 15 minute movie, Danielle. I
[1:00:01] Speaker 2: didn't realize he was talking about it. I definitely knew
[1:00:03] Speaker 2: it was Keith.
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: Teague. What a name.
[1:00:07] Speaker 2: Teague Sparrow.
[1:00:07] Speaker 3: Teague Sparrow.
[1:00:08] Speaker 1: Well, we've gotten two movies now. He's never once mentioned
[1:00:11] Speaker 1: his dad, who's also a pirate. An important pirate. An
[1:00:15] Speaker 1: important pirate at Shipwreck Island.
[1:00:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sort of with you. Thanks for defending me.
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: Or his mom. They don't talk about his mom.
[1:00:21] Speaker 1: Well, his mom is dead, right?
[1:00:22] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:00:23] Speaker 3: I mean, he's shrunken. Maybe you can bring her back.
[1:00:27] Speaker 2: Nothing is dead. As soon as you say that person's dead,
[1:00:29] Speaker 2: you kind of have to slow it down. But yeah. Anyways,
[1:00:32] Speaker 2: he was great.
[1:00:32] Speaker 3: It is funny at the end. Keith Richards says it's
[1:00:35] Speaker 3: not about living forever, which to me is funny because
[1:00:38] Speaker 3: like Keith Richards is one of the most. How is
[1:00:41] Speaker 3: this guy still alive? Yeah. Characters in the entire world.
[1:00:45] Speaker 3: But this guy, I feel like he will live forever. Yeah.
[1:00:47] Speaker 2: Perfect fit.
[1:00:48] Speaker 1: So Elizabeth, because she is the pirate king here, she
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: orders the pirates, hey, we're going to war. We're doing
[1:00:54] Speaker 1: this against Beckett. And before that, though, it's parlay. Parlay time.
[1:00:59] Speaker 2: That's right. Meeting.
[1:01:01] Speaker 1: It's a meeting on a sandbar. And with Beckett and Jones,
[1:01:06] Speaker 1: Elizabeth and Barbossa swap Jack Sparrow for Will Turner. Because
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: we have two sets of three here.
[1:01:13] Speaker 3: Yes.
[1:01:14] Speaker 1: And this is the swap. Also important, Barbossa steals Jack's
[1:01:19] Speaker 1: piece of eight, his trinket.
[1:01:21] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: Which is, like, in his hair.
[1:01:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:01:26] Speaker 1: Reaction?
[1:01:29] Speaker 3: Two things. I liked the scene when they're all, like,
[1:01:33] Speaker 3: coming onto the island together to have their parlay, and it, like,
[1:01:35] Speaker 3: turns into a western for five minutes. It's got these
[1:01:38] Speaker 3: real close-ups. The music changes. I thought that was pretty cool,
[1:01:42] Speaker 3: but I did think it was a little strange that, like,
[1:01:45] Speaker 3: davy jones gets the workaround of if we put his
[1:01:49] Speaker 3: his existing human foot into a bucket of water he
[1:01:52] Speaker 3: can come on land he should have been using this
[1:01:55] Speaker 3: for decades totally.
[1:01:57] Speaker 4: That easy yeah that's what the pirate lawyer is for
[1:02:00] Speaker 4: they definitely have one on the ship they're like actually
[1:02:02] Speaker 4: davy there's.
[1:02:03] Speaker 1: A loophole right here.
[1:02:04] Speaker 4: If you get in a rusty bucket you can go
[1:02:07] Speaker 4: on a small spit in the middle of the ocean
[1:02:09] Speaker 4: i guess.
[1:02:10] Speaker 1: Yeah You could have met up the next day, man.
[1:02:12] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:02:13] Speaker 1: You could have had sex in that bucket.
[1:02:15] Speaker 2: Yeah. You could have.
[1:02:17] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:02:17] Speaker 2: And it's just one bucket on both feet. Right?
[1:02:20] Speaker 3: He's just standing there. I think he's got one peg
[1:02:22] Speaker 3: leg and one foot.
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: Oh, one leg.
[1:02:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: That's what he meant.
[1:02:24] Speaker 2: And the peg leg's fine.
[1:02:25] Speaker 3: Which, I mean, if the peg leg is fine, couldn't
[1:02:29] Speaker 3: you just wear wooden shoes?
[1:02:31] Speaker 1: Interesting.
[1:02:33] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[1:02:33] Speaker 3: I haven't read the codex.
[1:02:35] Speaker 1: Right, right, right.
[1:02:38] Speaker 4: What if the peg leg was a pogo stick and
[1:02:40] Speaker 4: you just jumped but bounced around on it and not
[1:02:45] Speaker 4: set the other foot down?
[1:02:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, as long as you just are not touching land, really.
[1:02:49] Speaker 4: Right, yeah.
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: Well, again, he gets the piece of eight, the monkey
[1:02:54] Speaker 1: help Jack, the monkey help some burbos that get it.
[1:02:57] Speaker 1: So now he's got them. Well, does he have them
[1:02:59] Speaker 1: all or does he rip off Elizabeth's? thing cause she
[1:03:03] Speaker 1: got from thing right wait do I have that right
[1:03:06] Speaker 1: does she have a.
[1:03:07] Speaker 3: Thing Barbossa is like I'm tired of other people or
[1:03:10] Speaker 3: is it Barbossa that takes it or is it Davy
[1:03:11] Speaker 3: Jones that takes it but somebody rips off her thing
[1:03:14] Speaker 3: and is like I'm tired of other people controlling my
[1:03:16] Speaker 3: fate right.
[1:03:17] Speaker 4: Yeah I think it's Barbossa because he has he's the
[1:03:20] Speaker 4: one that puts all the.
[1:03:21] Speaker 1: Stuff he has them all together which is the next
[1:03:22] Speaker 1: scene here yes good call yeah okay okay okay which
[1:03:27] Speaker 1: I mean these pieces of eight these trinkets they're pretty
[1:03:30] Speaker 1: important yes these these stupid other pirate lords like okay
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: they put them into a bowl at this meeting there's
[1:03:38] Speaker 1: only seven of the nine i guess at that point
[1:03:40] Speaker 1: right because jack never put his in and then there's
[1:03:42] Speaker 1: obviously this other one don't you ask for that back
[1:03:45] Speaker 1: i need my piece i'm gonna need that back instead
[1:03:49] Speaker 1: obviously you know one-eyed gareth just like keeps them all
[1:03:51] Speaker 1: for barbosa it's like.
[1:03:53] Speaker 4: What Well, to be fair, it's a bit of a
[1:03:56] Speaker 4: chaotic scene. There's like people getting shot. There's a lot
[1:03:58] Speaker 4: of yelling back and forth, fighting.
[1:04:00] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
[1:04:00] Speaker 1: It does full on break out into a fight. Yeah.
[1:04:03] Speaker 2: Yeah. That's when I kind of lost attention to the
[1:04:07] Speaker 2: ninth of the eighth in the fights. And I just
[1:04:09] Speaker 2: started looking at the chandeliers and the candle wax melting off.
[1:04:12] Speaker 2: I'm like, OK, this is pretty cool.
[1:04:14] Speaker 4: Oh, the production design for that scene is every scene.
[1:04:16] Speaker 1: This whole movie looks amazing.
[1:04:18] Speaker 3: It looks so cool.
[1:04:18] Speaker 4: So good. So good. It is awesome. Almost too good
[1:04:22] Speaker 4: because it's actually distracting me because this is a lot
[1:04:25] Speaker 4: of exposition. It's very convoluted. But like Tass, I'm looking
[1:04:29] Speaker 4: at the chandeliers and going, God damn, this looks great.
[1:04:32] Speaker 4: All the costume design, like seeing all these pirates from
[1:04:35] Speaker 4: all parts of the world, you know, they're all cliches, yes,
[1:04:38] Speaker 4: but they all look fucking great.
[1:04:39] Speaker 1: I'm the French one. I'm the Asian woman. I'm the
[1:04:42] Speaker 1: black guy.
[1:04:43] Speaker 4: It's amazing. But they all look amazing.
[1:04:48] Speaker 3: Yeah, which pirate look would you go with, J.D., of those,
[1:04:52] Speaker 3: the lords?
[1:04:54] Speaker 4: I think I gotta go Singapore. I love that look.
[1:04:57] Speaker 2: Oh, really? Yeah.
[1:04:58] Speaker 1: I liked, I mean, I'm calling him Armenian, but that
[1:05:03] Speaker 1: guy was cool.
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: The high-pitched guy?
[1:05:05] Speaker 3: Was he the guy with the parted beard?
[1:05:06] Speaker 2: I thought he was Indian. I thought the high-pitched guy
[1:05:08] Speaker 2: was Indian.
[1:05:08] Speaker 1: No, the high-pitched guy was Indian.
[1:05:09] Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:05:10] Speaker 1: I'm talking that there's a guy that, he's like Russian.
[1:05:12] Speaker 4: Yeah, oh, yeah, yeah.
[1:05:13] Speaker 1: You know, like sort of. I just pretended he was
[1:05:15] Speaker 1: Armenian for some reason.
[1:05:16] Speaker 2: Oh, sure, yeah.
[1:05:17] Speaker 3: Was that the guy that had like the parted beard?
[1:05:19] Speaker 3: But what was weird is I thought we already heard
[1:05:21] Speaker 3: that guy talk like but it was that the other
[1:05:22] Speaker 3: guy the guy Yeah, it was the other guy that's
[1:05:24] Speaker 3: they kept.
[1:05:24] Speaker 2: Speaking for him right I died.
[1:05:26] Speaker 4: Yeah Yeah, you're right the casting.
[1:05:28] Speaker 2: Was I thought was really good. It's obvious who they are.
[1:05:44] Speaker 2: It's like Vince McMahon would have said, oh man, this
[1:05:46] Speaker 2: is awesome. This is perfect for the 1980s. Yeah.
[1:05:51] Speaker 1: What a stable. The nine pirate lords, I'm surprised. They're
[1:05:55] Speaker 1: pretty funny.
[1:05:56] Speaker 3: Yeah, like the floppy French guy with his blush and
[1:05:59] Speaker 3: his long curly wig. The conquistador out there. They thought
[1:06:03] Speaker 3: of everything in this one.
[1:06:03] Speaker 1: I was going to ask you, what would be your
[1:06:05] Speaker 1: piece of eight? What would you.
[1:06:09] Speaker 1: And let's talk about like, let's talk about now, like
[1:06:12] Speaker 1: real life. What would be your trinket?
[1:06:16] Speaker 2: I mean, if we're going stereotypical, I'd have, it's like
[1:06:21] Speaker 2: the Greek beads.
[1:06:23] Speaker 3: Oh, good one.
[1:06:23] Speaker 2: You know that you throw over your fingers. Worry beads.
[1:06:26] Speaker 1: Worry beads, yeah.
[1:06:26] Speaker 2: They have the worry beads, yeah. Oh, that's good.
[1:06:29] Speaker 1: Okay. That's cool.
[1:06:31] Speaker 2: That's literally in my car right now. Oh, nice. I
[1:06:33] Speaker 2: use it when I'm worried. As I'm driving out of life,
[1:06:36] Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, I'm going to hit this guy.
[1:06:38] Speaker 2: I'm going to get my beads.
[1:06:41] Speaker 1: What about you? Bandana.
[1:06:46] Speaker 3: I'm just trying to think of something I'd carry with
[1:06:47] Speaker 3: me a lot. I'm usually a bandana guy. What kind
[1:06:51] Speaker 3: of piece of eight do I have?
[1:06:56] Speaker 1: Nice and clean.
[1:06:56] Speaker 3: No one would expect it. I don't know if this
[1:06:58] Speaker 3: is clean.
[1:07:01] Speaker 4: I made an assumption. I'm going to earbud.
[1:07:04] Speaker 1: Oh, like an AirPod.
[1:07:05] Speaker 4: Sure, I usually have an AirPod.
[1:07:07] Speaker 1: So do I. That's a good one. Ooh, an AirPod's good. Yeah,
[1:07:11] Speaker 1: Apple Watch or something like that.
[1:07:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's only heat with you a lot.
[1:07:14] Speaker 1: I can't say ring anymore because I lost it when
[1:07:16] Speaker 1: I was gardening. All right, let's get back to this.
[1:07:24] Speaker 1: So Barbossa frees Calypso, who was bound in human form
[1:07:29] Speaker 1: as Tia Dalma. And this is where Tia Dalma, like,
[1:07:34] Speaker 1: just hulks out, gets huge, giant woman, Calypso, and then
[1:07:40] Speaker 1: turns into Krabs. But when Will reveals Davy Jones' betrayal
[1:07:47] Speaker 1: to her, because I guess Calypso, Tia Dunham, did not
[1:07:50] Speaker 1: know that actually it was Davy Jones that made her
[1:07:55] Speaker 1: into human form.
[1:07:56] Speaker 2: Right.
[1:07:56] Speaker 1: Right, yeah. That's when Calypso sort of vanishes into the
[1:08:00] Speaker 1: Krabs and she summons the maelstrom, the whirlpool. She's basically
[1:08:05] Speaker 1: refusing to help either side, I think is what's sort
[1:08:07] Speaker 1: of going on here.
[1:08:08] Speaker 3: Yes.
[1:08:09] Speaker 1: She's pissed.
[1:08:10] Speaker 2: Yeah. What does she say?
[1:08:11] Speaker 4: I mean, other than eat shit.
[1:08:14] Speaker 1: That's what I thought she said. If you listen back,
[1:08:17] Speaker 1: it sounds like she screams eat shit. Right at the end,
[1:08:21] Speaker 1: the last part. She yells something you can't decipher, and
[1:08:25] Speaker 1: there were no subtitles, because I checked.
[1:08:27] Speaker 4: Oh, did you turn on the captions? No, she says nothing.
[1:08:29] Speaker 1: She says nothing, but it sounds like she yells eat
[1:08:32] Speaker 1: shit right at the end, which would be the funniest
[1:08:34] Speaker 1: thing for her to yell.
[1:08:35] Speaker 4: I mean, and it fits, too, because she basically just
[1:08:38] Speaker 4: causes a storm and says, go fuck yourself. Yeah.
[1:08:41] Speaker 2: Yeah, but could she not have evolved into something else
[1:08:43] Speaker 2: other than a big version of herself?
[1:08:45] Speaker 4: I mean, I'm with you, Tess. I was kind of like, oh.
[1:08:48] Speaker 1: You rolled your eyes a little bit at it?
[1:08:49] Speaker 4: Well, this whole thing is leading to Calypso. Everybody's worried
[1:08:52] Speaker 4: about it, scared, but what are you going to do?
[1:08:55] Speaker 4: And I guess the consequences are big, but I don't know.
[1:08:58] Speaker 4: I thought it would be.
[1:09:00] Speaker 1: More.
[1:09:00] Speaker 4: And then she just collapses into crabs.
[1:09:02] Speaker 1: It's just sort of weird. Yeah, they have her all
[1:09:04] Speaker 1: roped up. Like they're going to what, control her? I
[1:09:07] Speaker 1: guess that's the idea. He's like, I'm going to unleash
[1:09:09] Speaker 1: you back into Calypso form.
[1:09:11] Speaker 2: Right.
[1:09:11] Speaker 1: And then he says Barbossa like, hey man, deal's a deal.
[1:09:15] Speaker 1: Got you back to your form. You got to take
[1:09:18] Speaker 1: it easy on me, right?
[1:09:19] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:09:20] Speaker 1: And then learning what Will had said about this whole, like,
[1:09:23] Speaker 1: who did it, she just pissed off, and she's like,
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: all right, I'm out of here.
[1:09:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, but then when she breaks through the ropes and
[1:09:27] Speaker 2: turns into crabs, you expect, because she's able to snap
[1:09:32] Speaker 2: out of them, or... rip through them, that the crabs
[1:09:35] Speaker 2: would be something, do something. I know.
[1:09:37] Speaker 1: She just goes to the water, right?
[1:09:38] Speaker 2: She's like, back to the... Yeah, she.
[1:09:40] Speaker 3: Just makes it harder for everybody, right? She's like, I'm
[1:09:43] Speaker 3: going to make the suck hole, I'm going to make
[1:09:45] Speaker 3: a tornado. So it's tough for everybody, but I'm with you.
[1:09:49] Speaker 3: I thought she was going to turn into some... crazy
[1:09:52] Speaker 3: creature totally going nuts on whoever she decides to do
[1:09:55] Speaker 3: it but it's kind of like see you later you've
[1:09:57] Speaker 3: been building me up i'll be in i'll be in
[1:09:59] Speaker 3: the water.
[1:09:59] Speaker 1: Yeah because it's like i was like oh that's why
[1:10:02] Speaker 1: we've been that's why we killed the kraken off because
[1:10:04] Speaker 1: we're going to use all the cgi effects on awesome
[1:10:07] Speaker 1: calypso sea goddess yeah it's like not really she's gonna
[1:10:11] Speaker 1: be giant.
[1:10:12] Speaker 2: Yeah she's like a 40 foot version of herself and
[1:10:14] Speaker 2: it's like i don't know how much cgi went into
[1:10:17] Speaker 2: that I don't know.
[1:10:19] Speaker 1: She was tall. That was just Lord of the Rings
[1:10:22] Speaker 1: camera tricks, I think.
[1:10:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, and so it was the one-eyed guy that gets
[1:10:26] Speaker 2: into her ear and says it in a loving way.
[1:10:31] Speaker 1: I hated that part for some reason. Barbossa does it first.
[1:10:35] Speaker 2: It doesn't work.
[1:10:35] Speaker 1: It doesn't work.
[1:10:37] Speaker 2: So they say, hey, one-eyed guy, you know how to
[1:10:39] Speaker 2: be loving. He just sensually says it in her ear,
[1:10:43] Speaker 2: and it works. Yeah. It kind of shows that those
[1:10:47] Speaker 2: characters have more depth than just being a one-eyed guy.
[1:10:50] Speaker 2: He's got some range.
[1:10:53] Speaker 1: We know he's been reading. Was he reading the Bible?
[1:10:57] Speaker 3: He was reading it upside down.
[1:10:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, you could have read it. This counts as reading.
[1:11:02] Speaker 2: It's like listening to an audio book.
[1:11:04] Speaker 4: He's a sensitive guy, and I guess he actually loved Theodoma.
[1:11:09] Speaker 3: I guess so.
[1:11:10] Speaker 1: Maybe this will pay off. down the line. Well, you said,
[1:11:13] Speaker 1: I mean, he is the one that did it. What's
[1:11:14] Speaker 1: his name? Pintrell.
[1:11:16] Speaker 3: Uh, one of them is Rigetti. One of them is Pintel.
[1:11:19] Speaker 2: Pintel.
[1:11:20] Speaker 1: I think it's Pintel.
[1:11:21] Speaker 3: Anyway.
[1:11:22] Speaker 1: Well, you said, uh, off camera here. So he's the
[1:11:25] Speaker 1: one that does it. He says it lovingly. So maybe
[1:11:27] Speaker 1: he does love her, but then she gives him crabs.
[1:11:29] Speaker 4: He's got one of the crabs in his pants. That
[1:11:34] Speaker 4: that's on purpose.
[1:11:35] Speaker 1: You know, that's good.
[1:11:36] Speaker 4: That's a subconscious, like, uh, you love the wrong woman.
[1:11:41] Speaker 4: You may get craps.
[1:11:43] Speaker 3: Be careful what you watch for.
[1:11:45] Speaker 1: Okay, so we got this crazy storm rolling through just
[1:11:48] Speaker 1: as the Navy's massive fleet appears on the horizon. We've
[1:11:52] Speaker 1: got the Whirlpool, the Maelstrom, and this is an insane battle.
[1:11:58] Speaker 3: Yes.
[1:11:58] Speaker 1: Like an absolutely mental battle here of these two ships
[1:12:03] Speaker 1: going around, again, the Whirlpool. A lot happens here. Jack
[1:12:08] Speaker 1: Sparrow escapes the flying Dutchman's brig. He was pretty easy.
[1:12:12] Speaker 1: This is where the two tiny ones come into play, right?
[1:12:15] Speaker 1: Two tiny Jack Sparrows?
[1:12:17] Speaker 3: No, he has two full-sizers and a ship jack. He's
[1:12:22] Speaker 3: stuck in there as well, right? Oh, yeah. He's been
[1:12:25] Speaker 3: barnacled up, but then he remembers how Will broke him
[1:12:29] Speaker 3: out of the cage in the first one. It's a
[1:12:31] Speaker 3: calm leverage.
[1:12:33] Speaker 1: I'm out of here. Just pops it out.
[1:12:34] Speaker 2: Right.
[1:12:35] Speaker 1: So he gets out.
[1:12:36] Speaker 2: That's why they keep saying leverage.
[1:12:38] Speaker 1: Okay. Okay.
[1:12:40] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:12:41] Speaker 1: When were the tiny ones then? Where were the tiny
[1:12:43] Speaker 1: Jack Sparrow later on?
[1:12:44] Speaker 3: Oh, it's not even, I think it's before he's debating like,
[1:12:48] Speaker 3: do I want to be a mortal or not?
[1:12:51] Speaker 1: Oh, right.
[1:12:52] Speaker 4: Right.
[1:12:52] Speaker 2: Right. Right. Right. Yeah.
[1:12:53] Speaker 4: So it's like an angel devil type thing.
[1:12:55] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:12:56] Speaker 4: That part of it's fine. I just thought it looked,
[1:12:58] Speaker 4: it looked horrible.
[1:12:58] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
[1:12:59] Speaker 1: So somehow they're really good with like CGI monsters and tentacles.
[1:13:04] Speaker 1: Not great when it comes to just making a giant
[1:13:06] Speaker 1: woman or a tiny little Jack Sparrow.
[1:13:10] Speaker 2: I just thought of, are they using British English when
[1:13:12] Speaker 2: they use the word leverage? Cause instead of a lever,
[1:13:16] Speaker 2: it's like when we were doing, this is way back callback,
[1:13:20] Speaker 2: but we were playing the five. There was a, there's
[1:13:22] Speaker 2: a new word out there. What's it, what was it called?
[1:13:23] Speaker 2: Where you do it live with, uh, we were.
[1:13:25] Speaker 3: Playing with Ash.
[1:13:26] Speaker 2: I don't remember what it was called.
[1:13:27] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:13:27] Speaker 2: And so the word, well, Savvy? I don't know. Yeah,
[1:13:30] Speaker 2: so we were just shouting out words, and I said lever,
[1:13:32] Speaker 2: and then Trey at some point is like, it's lever.
[1:13:34] Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, well, it's American versus English.
[1:13:37] Speaker 2: Yeah. Anyway. Maybe that's what happened.
[1:13:39] Speaker 1: Maybe that's what happened.
[1:13:40] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:13:41] Speaker 1: So, again, Sparrow gets out of the brig there, and
[1:13:44] Speaker 1: then he steals the dead man's chest, which obviously has
[1:13:48] Speaker 1: the heart in it. Here we get some old characters
[1:13:53] Speaker 1: back in our lives, the two dipshit sailors.
[1:13:56] Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah.
[1:13:58] Speaker 1: You know, from the first movie, I don't think we
[1:14:00] Speaker 1: even saw them in the second one.
[1:14:01] Speaker 2: I don't think so.
[1:14:02] Speaker 1: I don't think so. Yeah. But they're here. So I'm like, oh,
[1:14:05] Speaker 1: these guys are here.
[1:14:05] Speaker 3: They're here doing the same thing.
[1:14:06] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:14:07] Speaker 3: Arguing about semantics while Jack steals something from them.
[1:14:09] Speaker 2: Yep.
[1:14:10] Speaker 1: Oh, right. Yeah, that's exactly right. Because they're guarding it.
[1:14:12] Speaker 2: Just walks away.
[1:14:13] Speaker 1: They're guarding it.
[1:14:14] Speaker 2: So easily.
[1:14:14] Speaker 3: If the chest wasn't here, we wouldn't have to protect it.
[1:14:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, right, right, right, right.
[1:14:17] Speaker 3: Are you saying barnacle guys are dumb? Basically, like one
[1:14:21] Speaker 3: guy's so offended that he would think that the barnacle
[1:14:24] Speaker 3: guys are bad pirates. How dare you say that?
[1:14:28] Speaker 1: So we have the Pearl and we got the Dutchman, uh,
[1:14:31] Speaker 1: just battling it out, JD. Like you said, the toilet
[1:14:33] Speaker 1: bowl here spinning and spinning and spinning. Um, I hope
[1:14:37] Speaker 1: you don't get, uh, you know, seasick or carsick, or
[1:14:40] Speaker 1: I guess if you have some of those rides, uh,
[1:14:42] Speaker 1: Canada's Wonderland or like an amusement park.
[1:14:44] Speaker 2: Totally.
[1:14:45] Speaker 1: That's what a maelstrom is, huh?
[1:14:46] Speaker 3: I think it's a whirlpool. That's a word I know,
[1:14:50] Speaker 3: but I didn't know what it meant. But whirlpool, okay.
[1:14:53] Speaker 1: I think so. Yeah.
[1:14:54] Speaker 2: Sounds right.
[1:14:55] Speaker 4: Maelstrom sounds a lot more sinister and dangerous. Yeah, I
[1:14:59] Speaker 4: thought this was kind of great. I mean, it's a
[1:15:02] Speaker 4: wild scene. There's a wedding in the middle of it
[1:15:04] Speaker 4: as well.
[1:15:04] Speaker 1: Oh, yes, yes.
[1:15:05] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like this is gearing up for it all
[1:15:07] Speaker 3: to happen. Like Calypso comes back. The company shows up.
[1:15:13] Speaker 3: The ocean starts going nuts again. and there's maybe like
[1:15:15] Speaker 3: an hour of the movie. You're like, this isn't, it's
[1:15:19] Speaker 3: not gonna be an hour-long battle, right? But guess what,
[1:15:21] Speaker 3: it's an hour-long battle.
[1:15:22] Speaker 1: It's long, very long.
[1:15:24] Speaker 3: That's crazy.
[1:15:25] Speaker 4: Considering that there is an entire armada in front of them,
[1:15:29] Speaker 4: that's such a cool shot, too, when they're like, okay,
[1:15:31] Speaker 4: let's go. We get this nice stirring speech from Elizabeth,
[1:15:35] Speaker 4: and then the pirates are like, raise the colors or whatever,
[1:15:38] Speaker 4: and then we see out of the fog comes, all right,
[1:15:41] Speaker 4: we got some ships we're gonna fight, and then the
[1:15:43] Speaker 4: rest of the ships are revealed.
[1:15:44] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was cool.
[1:15:45] Speaker 4: Awesome, awesome stuff, except none of these ships take part
[1:15:51] Speaker 4: in any.
[1:15:51] Speaker 2: Of this, right?
[1:15:52] Speaker 1: No, really, there's only really three ships in any sort
[1:15:55] Speaker 1: of battle here at the end. First off, the Pearl
[1:15:57] Speaker 1: and the Dutchman, and then obviously Beckett's endeavor there when
[1:16:01] Speaker 1: he gets blown up to smithereens.
[1:16:03] Speaker 2: Totally, yeah.
[1:16:03] Speaker 1: But all the other pirate lords... And all the Armada.
[1:16:07] Speaker 4: They just, they're on the sidelines.
[1:16:08] Speaker 1: Hanging back.
[1:16:09] Speaker 4: It's like watching a duel.
[1:16:11] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:16:11] Speaker 3: Kind of true.
[1:16:12] Speaker 1: Especially these two spinning it out here.
[1:16:14] Speaker 4: Which is fine. I mean, you know, it's taking place
[1:16:17] Speaker 4: in a maelstrom, you know. But like I saw behind
[1:16:22] Speaker 4: the scenes of like they built both ships and they're
[1:16:24] Speaker 4: sort of tilted towards each other. Just the scale of
[1:16:28] Speaker 4: the production, just building the ships alone is insane.
[1:16:33] Speaker 2: Nuts.
[1:16:33] Speaker 4: And then I think the CGI actually looks really good.
[1:16:37] Speaker 4: And all of this stuff is exhilarating, fun action, comedic action,
[1:16:43] Speaker 4: you know, and then there's the whole wedding part. And
[1:16:46] Speaker 4: then there's like, but, but, but keeping track of all
[1:16:48] Speaker 4: these characters and, you know, they all get a moment
[1:16:52] Speaker 4: sort of, and then we get Orlando Bloom gets stabbed
[1:16:55] Speaker 4: and all this. And It's just a lot going on,
[1:16:58] Speaker 4: but I think it works. It's like a great payoff
[1:17:01] Speaker 4: for a very long time of dealing with plot and
[1:17:06] Speaker 4: who's betraying whom and all that stuff. I think it works.
[1:17:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, me too. Did they grow Orlando Bloom's hair for
[1:17:15] Speaker 2: his wedding scene? Because it looked like it's longer and
[1:17:18] Speaker 2: curlier than it was for the first two and a
[1:17:21] Speaker 2: half hours of the tweet. Okay, here they are. Here
[1:17:24] Speaker 2: are the locks. I didn't see them in the first
[1:17:27] Speaker 2: couple hours of the movie. Then they're like, here, let's
[1:17:30] Speaker 2: pull them out, baby.
[1:17:31] Speaker 4: They were tied back, and then he lets his hair
[1:17:33] Speaker 4: down for battles and weddings.
[1:17:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot that happens here. Davy Jones kills Mercer,
[1:17:40] Speaker 1: and he obtains the key to the chest.
[1:17:42] Speaker 4: Gruesome death.
[1:17:43] Speaker 2: Yep.
[1:17:44] Speaker 1: Very gruesome oh that's the that's the tentacle death yeah.
[1:17:47] Speaker 3: That's awesome like up through his nose and his eyes
[1:17:49] Speaker 3: that's a that's a great use of your beard.
[1:17:51] Speaker 1: But then jack steals from jones the the the key
[1:17:55] Speaker 1: right and they have a crazy duel and they have
[1:17:58] Speaker 1: a sword fight on top of a math yeah this
[1:18:02] Speaker 1: was my least favorite part of this entire battle i
[1:18:05] Speaker 1: just think it looks so silly Up on the masts? Yeah,
[1:18:09] Speaker 1: I don't know. Everything else is cool. Every time they
[1:18:12] Speaker 1: would go back to them, I would roll my eyes
[1:18:14] Speaker 1: at that part.
[1:18:15] Speaker 2: I like it. I think it's cool.
[1:18:16] Speaker 4: It's fun being on top of a mast in a
[1:18:18] Speaker 4: Pirates movie.
[1:18:19] Speaker 1: I guess so. But also during the battle, you already
[1:18:22] Speaker 1: said it, Elizabeth and Will, they're wed by Barbossa, who
[1:18:26] Speaker 1: is apparently an ordained minister.
[1:18:27] Speaker 4: No, he's a captain of a ship. Any captain on
[1:18:31] Speaker 4: a ship can marry somebody.
[1:18:32] Speaker 1: Oh, really?
[1:18:33] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's in the codex.
[1:18:34] Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
[1:18:34] Speaker 1: It's there.
[1:18:37] Speaker 3: Page 498.
[1:18:37] Speaker 1: Okay, so.
[1:18:40] Speaker 2: Why?
[1:18:41] Speaker 1: Why are they married? Why do they need to be married?
[1:18:44] Speaker 2: Because they're not going to be on the next Pirates
[1:18:46] Speaker 2: of the Caribbean. They're gone. Wrap it up. You're out
[1:18:49] Speaker 2: of here.
[1:18:49] Speaker 1: I was thinking it's because, as we'll get to, they're
[1:18:53] Speaker 1: going to have sex.
[1:18:54] Speaker 2: Yes.
[1:18:55] Speaker 1: They're going to have a child.
[1:18:56] Speaker 2: Right.
[1:18:56] Speaker 1: So it's true. We better make sure they're married, legally
[1:18:59] Speaker 1: married before.
[1:19:00] Speaker 3: They do that.
[1:19:00] Speaker 2: Pirates have to get married.
[1:19:01] Speaker 1: Because it's like, you know, and I know they were
[1:19:03] Speaker 1: going to get married in the last one and that
[1:19:04] Speaker 1: got all interrupted, but it's like, it just felt so
[1:19:07] Speaker 1: out of nowhere in this giant battle. They're like, hey,
[1:19:10] Speaker 1: we should get married, let's get married.
[1:19:11] Speaker 2: I love you.
[1:19:11] Speaker 3: You're totally right, because for the most part, definitely in
[1:19:16] Speaker 3: this movie, and even I think a little bit in
[1:19:18] Speaker 3: Dead Man's Chest, it's like, they're not telling each other anything,
[1:19:22] Speaker 3: and they're like stabbing each other in the back almost
[1:19:24] Speaker 3: the entire time, keeping secrets from each other, but then
[1:19:26] Speaker 3: they're like, eh, we got a maelstrom here. Like, should
[1:19:30] Speaker 3: we just do it? You know, we were gonna get married.
[1:19:33] Speaker 3: They've had two tough weddings, though. They had the one
[1:19:34] Speaker 3: where everybody ends up getting hung, and then they had
[1:19:37] Speaker 3: this one, which is a battle, at sea, of course, and.
[1:19:40] Speaker 1: I guess the only other reason is maybe does Elizabeth
[1:19:43] Speaker 1: realize Will is going to die, so to speak, and
[1:19:48] Speaker 1: become the captain of the Flying Dutchman. And so if
[1:19:52] Speaker 1: we are wed together, I'll stay loyal. Every 10 years,
[1:19:56] Speaker 1: I'll wait for him. I don't know.
[1:19:59] Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
[1:20:00] Speaker 1: Maybe they just thought it would be funny and silly.
[1:20:04] Speaker 4: I think it's that.
[1:20:05] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:20:06] Speaker 4: It's a fun, silly thing to do. They've sort of
[1:20:08] Speaker 4: gotten past their, you know, the impasse of, you know,
[1:20:12] Speaker 4: Will is focused on rescuing his father.
[1:20:15] Speaker 1: And then.
[1:20:17] Speaker 4: What is Elizabeth? What's her main drive here? She kept
[1:20:22] Speaker 4: something from Will. What was it? About getting, oh, she
[1:20:29] Speaker 4: thought she killed Jack. She did kill Jack.
[1:20:31] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
[1:20:32] Speaker 4: And she wanted, she was wracked with guilt.
[1:20:34] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:20:35] Speaker 4: And when they rescued him, then she even says, like,
[1:20:38] Speaker 4: if we rescue Jack, everything's going to be fine.
[1:20:40] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:20:42] Speaker 1: But she vows revenge against Cutler.
[1:20:45] Speaker 4: That too, yeah, yeah. But that was the impasse between
[1:20:48] Speaker 4: the two of them because Will thought, oh, she's got
[1:20:51] Speaker 4: a thing for Jack. He didn't realize that she killed him.
[1:20:54] Speaker 4: But I think they sort of, what they're telling us
[1:20:57] Speaker 4: is that they kind of loved each other the whole
[1:20:59] Speaker 4: time and that the whole thing was leading to this. Right.
[1:21:02] Speaker 2: So, yeah.
[1:21:03] Speaker 4: And I think you're right. If you're going to have,
[1:21:05] Speaker 4: have sex on a beach, they got to be married,
[1:21:08] Speaker 4: I guess.
[1:21:09] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:21:09] Speaker 3: True. Yeah.
[1:21:10] Speaker 2: But we don't get any sex.
[1:21:12] Speaker 4: The hell are you talking about?
[1:21:13] Speaker 1: Well, we get a little, a little, a boot foreplay.
[1:21:17] Speaker 4: No, no, no. We get full on cunnilingus on that beach.
[1:21:22] Speaker 4: I'm convinced that.
[1:21:23] Speaker 2: In the next movie.
[1:21:24] Speaker 4: No, in this movie.
[1:21:26] Speaker 2: Oh, no.
[1:21:28] Speaker 4: There's the boot. There's the knee. And then we cut. Sorry,
[1:21:32] Speaker 4: Elizabeth is not getting that much pleasure from him caressing
[1:21:36] Speaker 4: her knee.
[1:21:37] Speaker 2: Oh, man.
[1:21:38] Speaker 4: Watch it back.
[1:21:39] Speaker 2: Watch it back. Rachel, your wife needs to come back
[1:21:41] Speaker 2: because that ain't any sex. There's no action there.
[1:21:44] Speaker 1: It's super horny watching this movie.
[1:21:46] Speaker 2: Cunnilingus. Trey, back me up.
[1:21:49] Speaker 4: This is a horny movie.
[1:21:51] Speaker 3: This one's not as horny as one, hornier than two.
[1:21:55] Speaker 4: I mean, you could argue that this entire, the last
[1:21:58] Speaker 4: two movies is all leading up to Elizabeth having sex. Like,
[1:22:02] Speaker 4: it starts with her wedding being canceled. She thought she
[1:22:04] Speaker 4: was having sex that night.
[1:22:05] Speaker 1: That's true.
[1:22:06] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:22:07] Speaker 4: And then all the.
[1:22:08] Speaker 1: Rest of it. That was interrupted.
[1:22:09] Speaker 4: She's just, she's very horny this entire time.
[1:22:12] Speaker 2: Just like four guys in this one. That's right. That's right.
[1:22:15] Speaker 1: And she's always been horny for a pirate, for sure.
[1:22:18] Speaker 3: Yes.
[1:22:18] Speaker 1: He has morphed before our very eyes into a super pirate, really.
[1:22:23] Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
[1:22:24] Speaker 3: Super pirate. That's true. Maybe she's like, I can't marry
[1:22:28] Speaker 3: you until you've gone full jack.
[1:22:29] Speaker 2: Maybe. And he does. Yeah. Yep.
[1:22:32] Speaker 1: Okay, so Will boards the Flying Dutchman to retrieve the
[1:22:35] Speaker 1: chest because so much is going on here. There's a
[1:22:37] Speaker 1: lot of back and forth between the boats and all that.
[1:22:40] Speaker 1: But he is mortally wounded by Davy Jones. Oh, my God.
[1:22:45] Speaker 1: As Bootstrap Bill, though, attacks Jones, Sparrow, who wanted the
[1:22:50] Speaker 1: heart at first for his own immortality, he places that
[1:22:54] Speaker 1: broken saber, which happened while he was fighting Davy Jones,
[1:22:58] Speaker 1: in Will's hand.
[1:22:59] Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
[1:23:00] Speaker 1: And helps Will, who's dying, stab Jones' heart, thus killing Jones.
[1:23:07] Speaker 3: Yes.
[1:23:07] Speaker 1: Thus putting Will into the role of the Captain of
[1:23:10] Speaker 1: the Flying Dutchman.
[1:23:11] Speaker 2: R.I.P.
[1:23:11] Speaker 3: Davy Jones, he falls into the abyss.
[1:23:13] Speaker 2: Right, right.
[1:23:15] Speaker 3: Will becomes the Captain of the Flying Dutchman, goes under,
[1:23:19] Speaker 3: I guess, right? And then when he reemerges, he's looking
[1:23:21] Speaker 3: like Jack. He goes underwater and comes up with a bandana.
[1:23:26] Speaker 2: Right.
[1:23:28] Speaker 3: Eyeliner. He comes back and Elizabeth's like, yeah, let's go.
[1:23:33] Speaker 3: Take me to the island, please.
[1:23:35] Speaker 1: So before that, before they go to the island for
[1:23:38] Speaker 1: fun times, Jack and Elizabeth escape the Flying Dutchman, straight
[1:23:42] Speaker 1: up parachute out.
[1:23:43] Speaker 3: First parachute in history.
[1:23:46] Speaker 2: Whoa, what is that?
[1:23:49] Speaker 4: A paraglider, I would say.
[1:23:50] Speaker 3: Sure, sure, yeah, yeah, sure.
[1:23:52] Speaker 4: They went up before they went down. Speaking of Survivor,
[1:23:55] Speaker 4: get this guy on... survivor because the grip strength on
[1:23:58] Speaker 4: jack sparrow fucking.
[1:24:01] Speaker 1: Incredible he can hold on to any rope and literally
[1:24:03] Speaker 1: cut it and then just fly nose to fly off
[1:24:06] Speaker 1: anywhere yeah yep yeah it's great yeah he.
[1:24:09] Speaker 3: Does a lot of like great aerial maneuvers in this
[1:24:11] Speaker 3: one escaping from ship to ship like he does at
[1:24:13] Speaker 3: one time with like he chops up a line that's
[1:24:16] Speaker 3: attached to a cannon. It just chucks them over to
[1:24:18] Speaker 3: the other one. Yeah. This flying move, not afraid of heights.
[1:24:21] Speaker 1: Also little Jack, the monkey, he jumped onto it too,
[1:24:24] Speaker 1: right on the rope to, to, to get off it
[1:24:26] Speaker 1: as it goes down. And they, and they carve out
[1:24:29] Speaker 1: a dead will's heart. They place it into the dead
[1:24:31] Speaker 1: man's chest. But yeah, that ship, the whole ship then
[1:24:34] Speaker 1: disappears into the whirlpool. Um, we're not done. Cause then Beckett,
[1:24:40] Speaker 1: this guy never intending to honor his agreement with Jack, uh,
[1:24:44] Speaker 1: He moves on to attack the Black Pearl, but the
[1:24:47] Speaker 1: Dutchman is back, pops out, like you said. Basically, Will
[1:24:50] Speaker 1: is Jack now, 2.0. It resurfaces from the depths with
[1:24:55] Speaker 1: Will as the captain. The crewmen, they're all human now.
[1:24:59] Speaker 1: And I was a little confused by that. Like, how
[1:25:01] Speaker 1: did that happen? I guess they're just freed from Joan's curse.
[1:25:05] Speaker 3: Must be.
[1:25:05] Speaker 1: That's it? Simple as that?
[1:25:06] Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, totally.
[1:25:09] Speaker 1: And Will and Sparrow, Will and Jack, they aim their
[1:25:12] Speaker 1: ships at the Endeavor. They basically get on either side
[1:25:14] Speaker 1: of it, and they just light that thing up. They
[1:25:17] Speaker 1: destroy it, and they kill Beckett, who gets a pretty
[1:25:21] Speaker 1: hilarious death scene that was very dramatic.
[1:25:23] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:25:25] Speaker 1: As he walks down those steps, and yeah, he just
[1:25:28] Speaker 1: gets blown up. Everything exploding around him.
[1:25:29] Speaker 3: It looks cool.
[1:25:30] Speaker 2: It does.
[1:25:31] Speaker 1: It does look cool.
[1:25:31] Speaker 2: The slow motion of everything flying around does look cool.
[1:25:35] Speaker 2: Is it disappointing that he doesn't bring the whole cavalry
[1:25:37] Speaker 2: of boats behind him? I know.
[1:25:40] Speaker 1: A little bit. Yeah, they just retreat. They're like, oh.
[1:25:44] Speaker 2: You're not saying anything. Say something. Give us an order.
[1:25:46] Speaker 2: Did he just panic?
[1:25:48] Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
[1:25:49] Speaker 1: Did he just realize his fate there? I don't know.
[1:25:52] Speaker 3: Yeah, canon's pointing both ways. Actually, I feel like in
[1:25:56] Speaker 3: a good spot.
[1:25:57] Speaker 2: Right.
[1:25:58] Speaker 3: Like, if he gives the order, it's like. That's what
[1:26:01] Speaker 3: I thought was.
[1:26:01] Speaker 2: Going to happen. Yeah, it's weird.
[1:26:04] Speaker 4: And you would think that.
[1:26:05] Speaker 3: The pressure got to him.
[1:26:06] Speaker 4: Very dangerous shooting at each other.
[1:26:09] Speaker 1: Oh, totally.
[1:26:10] Speaker 4: Between the endeavor, right?
[1:26:11] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:26:11] Speaker 4: You're going to catch some strays from your ally there,
[1:26:15] Speaker 4: but whatever. Yeah, it looks cool. Why is it shot
[1:26:18] Speaker 4: like that? Literally, it looks cool.
[1:26:20] Speaker 2: That's it.
[1:26:21] Speaker 4: That's the only reason, right?
[1:26:23] Speaker 2: All the slow motion stuff around it. Yeah.
[1:26:25] Speaker 1: I was just like, this guy gets this death scene?
[1:26:28] Speaker 1: I mean, I get he's the bad guy of all this,
[1:26:30] Speaker 1: but like, all right.
[1:26:31] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:26:32] Speaker 4: This should have been Davy Jones's death, you know, or
[1:26:35] Speaker 4: somebody of that. Somebody higher up.
[1:26:39] Speaker 1: Anyway, Beckett, gone. So Will has been saved. Buddy is
[1:26:44] Speaker 1: bound to sail the sea as the Dutchman's captain. But
[1:26:49] Speaker 1: Will and Elizabeth, I guess they get a one-day honeymoon.
[1:26:53] Speaker 1: So before the every 10 years thing. So they consummate
[1:26:59] Speaker 1: their marriage on an island.
[1:27:01] Speaker 2: Yes.
[1:27:02] Speaker 1: And then Will departs. It's going to watch the scene
[1:27:06] Speaker 1: ten times. And Will departs at sunset, but first gives
[1:27:11] Speaker 1: Elizabeth the dead man's chest for safekeeping. I'm not done.
[1:27:17] Speaker 1: You want me to just finish here? Shortly after, Barbossa
[1:27:20] Speaker 1: again commandeers the Black Pearl, stranding Jack and I guess
[1:27:24] Speaker 1: a drunk Gibbs in Tortuga. But having anticipated Barbossa's deception,
[1:27:31] Speaker 1: Jack Sparrow has already removed the map's middle. That leads
[1:27:35] Speaker 1: to the Fountain of Youth.
[1:27:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, baby.
[1:27:37] Speaker 1: They want the Fountain of Youth. This is the first
[1:27:39] Speaker 1: time this has come up. But so Jack has that
[1:27:43] Speaker 1: part of the map. And then there's a post-credits scene
[1:27:46] Speaker 1: 10 years later. Elizabeth and her son stand atop a
[1:27:49] Speaker 1: sea cliff. And as the sun sets, a green flash
[1:27:51] Speaker 1: fills the sky. The Flying Dutchman appears on the horizon.
[1:27:54] Speaker 1: Will Turner's there. sailing towards his family and they have
[1:27:58] Speaker 1: sex again. The end.
[1:28:01] Speaker 3: Uh, yeah.
[1:28:01] Speaker 2: Okay.
[1:28:03] Speaker 1: Um, any, uh, thoughts on the finale here? I say finale,
[1:28:07] Speaker 1: like the trilogy was done. It seemed like they had
[1:28:10] Speaker 1: wrapped it up. Obviously we got two more.
[1:28:11] Speaker 2: It's all wrapped up. Yeah. We'll see Javier Bardem and
[1:28:14] Speaker 2: Penelope Cruz soon, uh, taking the place of, uh, Will
[1:28:19] Speaker 2: and Karen Knightley.
[1:28:20] Speaker 1: Oh, wow. Yeah.
[1:28:22] Speaker 2: See you later. Damn.
[1:28:23] Speaker 3: Yeah, I like some goodbyes that we get. Elizabeth starts
[1:28:26] Speaker 3: going by Mrs. Turner. Right. Maybe Pintel says goodbye, puppet.
[1:28:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
[1:28:32] Speaker 3: Very sweet. I thought Jack gets back together with Scarlet
[1:28:37] Speaker 3: and Blondie from Tortuga. A few more slaps from road
[1:28:40] Speaker 3: why not he started on a dinghy he ended on
[1:28:43] Speaker 3: a dinghy and even though this is the culmination of
[1:28:46] Speaker 3: the trilogy they're like don't worry there's other maps out
[1:28:49] Speaker 3: there that go to other places including the fountain of
[1:28:52] Speaker 3: youth which you didn't think of as a pirate thing
[1:28:54] Speaker 3: at all no apparently it is yeah Yeah.
[1:28:57] Speaker 1: Okay. You can just tell me. Does the Fountain of
[1:28:59] Speaker 1: Youth play a part in movie number four then?
[1:29:02] Speaker 2: Yes. Okay.
[1:29:04] Speaker 1: At least they did that.
[1:29:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
[1:29:05] Speaker 4: I mean, did we need that though? There's already a
[1:29:08] Speaker 4: lot in this movie. I mean, sure.
[1:29:10] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:29:11] Speaker 4: Does Drop a Seed for a potential sequel of this
[1:29:14] Speaker 4: thing made a billion dollars, of course, it's going to happen.
[1:29:17] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:29:18] Speaker 4: But nobody signed on, you know, but that's fine. Two
[1:29:23] Speaker 4: things I like. I liked the goodbye between Elizabeth and Will.
[1:29:28] Speaker 4: I thought it was appropriately emotional and kind of tragic.
[1:29:33] Speaker 4: We have one day together and we're not going to
[1:29:35] Speaker 4: see each other for 10 years. I think the score
[1:29:37] Speaker 4: under this is amazing. Hans goes full from here to eternity.
[1:29:42] Speaker 4: He plays up the tragedy slash romance of it. So
[1:29:46] Speaker 4: that part I really liked. And the other thing I
[1:29:48] Speaker 4: really liked is Jack Sparrow was right back where we
[1:29:52] Speaker 4: first met him. He's on a little dinghy that he's
[1:29:54] Speaker 4: sort of souped up into a pirate ship, his own
[1:29:58] Speaker 4: little pirate ship, and he's off on another adventure. And
[1:30:03] Speaker 4: I thought that was a great ending for Jack Sparrow.
[1:30:06] Speaker 4: And if we never see him again, I would be
[1:30:08] Speaker 4: fine with that. Obviously, we're going to see him again.
[1:30:12] Speaker 4: But yeah, I thought this works. I thought gore stuck
[1:30:16] Speaker 4: the landing.
[1:30:17] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:30:18] Speaker 2: Yeah. I definitely like the callback of being on the dinghy.
[1:30:21] Speaker 2: It's exactly what we started off with him. This is
[1:30:23] Speaker 2: the perfect wrap-up. Also a nice callback of Gibbs getting
[1:30:26] Speaker 2: poured on, the alcohol poured on his face. True. I
[1:30:30] Speaker 2: like that callback.
[1:30:31] Speaker 1: Just like basically back to the beginning.
[1:30:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, back to the beginning. Nice wrap-up.
[1:30:35] Speaker 1: So, Rotten Tomatoes. Actually, any other random notes from this
[1:30:40] Speaker 1: very lengthy movie that you wanted to address here?
[1:30:42] Speaker 2: Anything I missed? Just in general, I liked Barbossa's poetic...
[1:30:48] Speaker 2: expression of all his his pirate lines like jeffrey rush
[1:30:51] Speaker 2: was really good at dropping the line here dropping a
[1:30:53] Speaker 2: line here you back-ended apes you know like that kind
[1:30:57] Speaker 2: of stuff like he's just damn good at it and
[1:30:59] Speaker 2: when he brings it he brings it you know he
[1:31:01] Speaker 2: says a lot but when he brings those pirate orders
[1:31:04] Speaker 2: they're solid man i just liked.
[1:31:06] Speaker 1: All in nora in watching this was like every time
[1:31:08] Speaker 1: like a new character would come on she's like he's in.
[1:31:10] Speaker 2: It He's in it?
[1:31:12] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:31:12] Speaker 2: He's in it?
[1:31:13] Speaker 1: Like all these loaded, like very talented actors playing all
[1:31:17] Speaker 1: these roles.
[1:31:17] Speaker 2: Definitely.
[1:31:18] Speaker 1: Like Jonathan Pryce and Tom Hollander, as we've talked about.
[1:31:21] Speaker 1: She was like, oh, he's so good as like a
[1:31:23] Speaker 1: snobbish character.
[1:31:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
[1:31:24] Speaker 1: And obviously Jeffrey Rush. I was like, yeah, it's stacked.
[1:31:27] Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Barbossa's awesome in this one. Like he's
[1:31:29] Speaker 3: one of the best characters for me. And even in
[1:31:31] Speaker 3: this one, he's kind of just like a foil to Jack. Like, no,
[1:31:34] Speaker 3: I want to be in charge. No, I want to
[1:31:36] Speaker 3: be in charge. He gets some moments, but he's basically
[1:31:39] Speaker 3: just there for color. And I think he's awesome. Yeah.
[1:31:41] Speaker 2: He's good at coloring for sure.
[1:31:43] Speaker 1: Any other random notes?
[1:31:45] Speaker 2: We did.
[1:31:46] Speaker 4: We skipped over it, but I really liked the scene
[1:31:47] Speaker 4: between Davy Jones and Calypso in the prison.
[1:31:50] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:31:51] Speaker 4: In the brig there. You know, the whole you wouldn't
[1:31:55] Speaker 4: love me if I wasn't this way kind of thing.
[1:31:57] Speaker 4: And we get it. I mentioned it, but we get
[1:31:59] Speaker 4: to see Bill Nye's actual face for a split second. And,
[1:32:03] Speaker 4: you know, that whole tragedy of their love story is, uh,
[1:32:07] Speaker 4: it's interesting and it's fun. And, uh, the, the great
[1:32:10] Speaker 4: performances from the two of them.
[1:32:13] Speaker 3: Yeah. When I'm thinking about like character arcs, Jack is
[1:32:17] Speaker 3: just a complete circle, right? He starts, like you're saying,
[1:32:19] Speaker 3: he starts on the dinghy. He ends on the dinghy.
[1:32:21] Speaker 3: At no point does he become the captain of the
[1:32:24] Speaker 3: flying Dutchman. He's just going to keep living his adventures.
[1:32:27] Speaker 3: Will goes from loving, uh, Elizabeth and wanting to be
[1:32:31] Speaker 3: with her ends up being with her, but at a cost,
[1:32:33] Speaker 3: you can only see her once every 10 years and
[1:32:35] Speaker 3: he has turned into Jack Sparrow. But I think Elizabeth
[1:32:38] Speaker 3: gets like the greatest glow up. She starts wanting to
[1:32:41] Speaker 3: be a pirate at the very first thing, right? Like
[1:32:43] Speaker 3: Will washes up. She takes the little chain off of
[1:32:46] Speaker 3: his neck. And by the end of this trilogy, she's
[1:32:50] Speaker 3: the king of all pirates.
[1:32:51] Speaker 2: That's right.
[1:32:52] Speaker 3: And a great leader. Like she gives a great hoist
[1:32:54] Speaker 3: the color speech and everybody's on board for the first time.
[1:32:57] Speaker 3: And these have been squabbling factions for the entirety of...
[1:33:01] Speaker 3: Pirate history were led to believe they chose right, I think.
[1:33:04] Speaker 1: So when we see her in the post-credits scene, she
[1:33:06] Speaker 1: is on land with her son, obviously going to the cliffside.
[1:33:10] Speaker 1: But do you believe she's still the pirate king and
[1:33:12] Speaker 1: the pirate lord of all of them?
[1:33:14] Speaker 3: Interesting.
[1:33:15] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[1:33:16] Speaker 3: I guess they would have to convene the fifth brother
[1:33:18] Speaker 3: in court.
[1:33:20] Speaker 1: Somebody sing the song, man.
[1:33:22] Speaker 3: Unfortunately, the one kid who knew it.
[1:33:23] Speaker 2: Oh, no.
[1:33:26] Speaker 3: I guess she's safe.
[1:33:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess so. Okay, so Rotten Tomatoes. In terms
[1:33:32] Speaker 1: of the critics' score for this, 43% for.
[1:33:37] Speaker 2: At World's End.
[1:33:38] Speaker 1: That's 10% down from Dead Man's Watch when it comes
[1:33:41] Speaker 1: to the critics. The fans, though, the popcorn meter, exact
[1:33:45] Speaker 1: same as the sequel, 72%. So it didn't really change there. Um, I,
[1:33:50] Speaker 1: I will say in reading a lot of reviews, it
[1:33:52] Speaker 1: was all over the map. Um, some people like a
[1:33:55] Speaker 1: lot of like this, a movie's like way too long,
[1:33:57] Speaker 1: too convoluted, didn't love it. And then there's people that
[1:33:59] Speaker 1: are like, this is the best of the trilogy stuck
[1:34:02] Speaker 1: the landing. This is awesome. The score is awesome. All that. Uh,
[1:34:05] Speaker 1: this one made me laugh. Frank said, uh, not a fan,
[1:34:07] Speaker 1: I guess I would rather go to work unpaid than
[1:34:10] Speaker 1: watch this overly long and boring movie.
[1:34:12] Speaker 2: Wow.
[1:34:17] Speaker 1: But that's Frank's opinion on a scale of one to 10. Trey,
[1:34:20] Speaker 1: how do you rank at World's End?
[1:34:23] Speaker 3: I guess I would probably be somewhere in between the
[1:34:26] Speaker 3: critics and the fans, because I do think there's some
[1:34:28] Speaker 3: moments in this that are awesome. Like I do like
[1:34:31] Speaker 3: the all kinds of Jack scene when we first meet
[1:34:33] Speaker 3: him on the boat out in Salt Flats. I think
[1:34:36] Speaker 3: the final battle is awesome. And I do think it
[1:34:38] Speaker 3: looks really, really cool. And all things considered, like this
[1:34:40] Speaker 3: is a pretty solid trilogy. Everything makes sense from beginning
[1:34:44] Speaker 3: to end. And you're satisfied with where people end up.
[1:34:47] Speaker 3: I think this movie is just chock full of stuff.
[1:34:50] Speaker 3: You say the reviews are all over the map. So
[1:34:52] Speaker 3: is the movie. There's so much. I feel like in
[1:34:55] Speaker 3: the second hour of this that I'm just like, what, what, what, what, what,
[1:35:00] Speaker 3: if we trim this out, it could be two hours
[1:35:01] Speaker 3: long and make a lot more sense, but I like
[1:35:04] Speaker 3: the way it ends up. So for me, it's like
[1:35:06] Speaker 3: a six out of 10.
[1:35:07] Speaker 2: Okay.
[1:35:07] Speaker 3: Yep.
[1:35:08] Speaker 2: Okay.
[1:35:09] Speaker 1: That would put it.
[1:35:09] Speaker 2: What?
[1:35:10] Speaker 3: This is third for me.
[1:35:11] Speaker 1: Oh, it would be third.
[1:35:13] Speaker 2: Okay.
[1:35:13] Speaker 3: I don't get enough date. We don't get enough. Jack
[1:35:15] Speaker 3: was my favorite part of the first one. Davey was
[1:35:17] Speaker 3: my favorite part of the second one. And they're both
[1:35:20] Speaker 3: kind of sidelined in this one. Like this to me
[1:35:23] Speaker 3: is mostly an Elizabeth and Will movie. And those to
[1:35:25] Speaker 3: me are of the 500 characters that are in it,
[1:35:29] Speaker 3: the two weakest pretty much. But, you know.
[1:35:33] Speaker 2: What about you? Rank it. Yeah, and maybe that's why
[1:35:36] Speaker 2: they decided, okay, let's make this super long so we
[1:35:38] Speaker 2: give Jack his time, and Barbosa's his time. Although, yeah,
[1:35:45] Speaker 2: it's highlighted by not your favorite characters in both Will
[1:35:49] Speaker 2: and Keira Knightley. So I feel, though, like it was
[1:35:54] Speaker 2: tied up all together, and I feel content as a
[1:35:57] Speaker 2: viewer watching that. The Jack first scene and waiting 30
[1:36:02] Speaker 2: minutes for him to evolve or to appear and all
[1:36:05] Speaker 2: of that. fighting with himself, it got me. It took
[1:36:10] Speaker 2: a long time to get there till the end. But
[1:36:13] Speaker 2: that's why I think I will always remember that. And
[1:36:16] Speaker 2: I'll always remember from the first one, Jack appearing on
[1:36:19] Speaker 2: the dinghy. So I think they just did a good job, again,
[1:36:21] Speaker 2: of tying it all up. So it's a seven for me.
[1:36:23] Speaker 2: It's right about the middle of a one, two, and three.
[1:36:26] Speaker 1: JD, your final thoughts on your grade here?
[1:36:29] Speaker 4: Yeah, when I go on a roller coaster, I don't
[1:36:33] Speaker 4: generally read the plaque. with the story behind the roller coaster.
[1:36:38] Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? Because if you go on, uh,
[1:36:41] Speaker 4: like I was looking up, you know, famous roller coasters
[1:36:45] Speaker 4: and their backstories, because especially at Disney, they all have backstories, right?
[1:36:49] Speaker 4: So if you ride expedition Everest at animal kingdom, it's
[1:36:53] Speaker 4: a roller coaster that goes backwards through a tunnel.
[1:36:56] Speaker 2: Okay. Right. Yep.
[1:36:57] Speaker 4: It looks fun. Have you been on a trip?
[1:36:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, I went on it four times in a row.
[1:37:00] Speaker 4: Do you know the backstory? No. What it is?
[1:37:02] Speaker 3: Not at all.
[1:37:03] Speaker 4: Is there a Yeti? There's a Yeti. So this is
[1:37:06] Speaker 4: the story. You're in the Himalayan village of Circa Zong,
[1:37:09] Speaker 4: boarding an old railway once operated by Royal Andantapur Tea Company.
[1:37:15] Speaker 4: Did you get that when you were on the ride?
[1:37:18] Speaker 4: The route was abandoned because it trespassed on a sacred
[1:37:21] Speaker 4: territory protected by the Yeti. Okay, so you see the Yeti.
[1:37:25] Speaker 1: Yeah. But.
[1:37:27] Speaker 4: you're just fucking riding a roller coaster. And that's how
[1:37:29] Speaker 4: I felt in the, at a certain point you sort
[1:37:31] Speaker 4: of glaze over and you're like, okay, this is a ride.
[1:37:35] Speaker 4: I'm on a ride and I'm very much enjoying the ride.
[1:37:39] Speaker 4: And I think, like I said, Gore stuck the landing.
[1:37:43] Speaker 4: I was invested even though Orlando Bloom is a little stiff, uh,
[1:37:48] Speaker 4: Keira Knightley and the love story there. I was invested in,
[1:37:51] Speaker 4: I was invested in Davy Jones and Calypso's love story.
[1:37:54] Speaker 4: I was invested in the climactic battle scene. I enjoyed
[1:37:59] Speaker 4: most of the shenanigans that happen. So I'm actually going
[1:38:03] Speaker 4: up from the last one. I'm going, I'm giving this
[1:38:05] Speaker 4: a seven.
[1:38:05] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:38:06] Speaker 2: Okay. Wait.
[1:38:09] Speaker 4: What did I give the last one?
[1:38:10] Speaker 1: You had number two as your favorite.
[1:38:12] Speaker 3: I went higher.
[1:38:13] Speaker 1: But you had the first one pretty low, I remember.
[1:38:15] Speaker 2: I think you're swapping one and twos.
[1:38:17] Speaker 4: So six, seven, yeah, I'll give this a seven. So
[1:38:20] Speaker 4: maybe I'm, it's basically the same, the continuation of the
[1:38:23] Speaker 4: middle one. So yeah, I'm going seven. I, in spite
[1:38:26] Speaker 4: of myself, I'm not not in spite of myself. It
[1:38:29] Speaker 4: was a fun movie and I fucking love nautical adventures anyways.
[1:38:32] Speaker 4: So I'm already a captured fan here.
[1:38:36] Speaker 1: So yeah. I thought this movie was going to be
[1:38:38] Speaker 1: way worse than it was. I just heading in, you know,
[1:38:41] Speaker 1: knowing it was like film basically back to back of
[1:38:43] Speaker 1: the other one, the last one, I'm like knowing how
[1:38:45] Speaker 1: long it was going to be. I was like dreading it.
[1:38:48] Speaker 1: You guys were telling me, oh my God, you haven't
[1:38:50] Speaker 1: started it yet? It's going to take you days to learn.
[1:38:53] Speaker 1: I'm like panicking.
[1:38:54] Speaker 4: The exam's tomorrow, man.
[1:38:55] Speaker 1: I know, I know. And I was pleasantly surprised it
[1:39:00] Speaker 1: wasn't the case. I watched it in one sitting. I
[1:39:02] Speaker 1: was entertained for sure throughout. I mean, yes. Look, the
[1:39:06] Speaker 1: plot is just too convoluted to make this an A
[1:39:09] Speaker 1: plus film.
[1:39:10] Speaker 3: It just is.
[1:39:11] Speaker 1: And this idea, and you talked about it, JD, just
[1:39:14] Speaker 1: the pirate life. There are too many shifting motives and
[1:39:18] Speaker 1: backstabbing and it just changes as often as the wind.
[1:39:21] Speaker 1: And it's like, that makes it tough to follow. But
[1:39:24] Speaker 1: the action breathtaking, the cinematography, the music, the soundtrack might
[1:39:29] Speaker 1: be my favorite of the three so far. Uh, the
[1:39:31] Speaker 1: action scenes are awesome. Um, so that I have this,
[1:39:35] Speaker 1: I think I enjoyed this more than the last one. Um, Okay.
[1:39:39] Speaker 1: But I don't even know what my score was, but
[1:39:41] Speaker 1: I'll put it, if I'm ranking them, I'm putting this
[1:39:44] Speaker 1: as my second favorite here from the trilogy so far.
[1:39:47] Speaker 1: Pleasantly surprised.
[1:39:48] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:39:48] Speaker 3: This is like a good trilogy. I was like, oh, nice.
[1:39:51] Speaker 3: I would intentionally re-watch one, two, and three just to watch.
[1:39:55] Speaker 1: Yeah, same. Well, we're going to watch it when it
[1:39:57] Speaker 1: comes back to theaters.
[1:39:58] Speaker 3: Absolutely, yeah.
[1:40:00] Speaker 1: Um, and, and to go back to your point, Tass,
[1:40:02] Speaker 1: like it does, it's a nice wrap up. You're like,
[1:40:04] Speaker 1: you feel good. You're like, okay, that makes, you know,
[1:40:06] Speaker 1: it's like sad on one hand that he is now
[1:40:08] Speaker 1: the captain will, but of the flying Dutchman. But, um,
[1:40:11] Speaker 1: You know, he's, hey, at least he got married.
[1:40:13] Speaker 4: And he's reunited with his father as well, that there
[1:40:16] Speaker 4: was that part of it. He did succeed in rescuing
[1:40:19] Speaker 4: his father, sort of. Like, they're both stuck on the
[1:40:21] Speaker 4: boat now, but at least the boat's not all barnacle-y.
[1:40:25] Speaker 1: Right.
[1:40:25] Speaker 3: You know, they're... He got the starfish off his dad's face.
[1:40:28] Speaker 2: That's good.
[1:40:28] Speaker 1: I mean, really, he just got... He got him and
[1:40:31] Speaker 1: his dad a job.
[1:40:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, new job.
[1:40:32] Speaker 1: New job.
[1:40:34] Speaker 4: Under new management, the Flying Dutchman.
[1:40:37] Speaker 3: I bought the new... It's like a bar rescue. Shut
[1:40:45] Speaker 3: it down.
[1:40:46] Speaker 4: Imagine if Taffer was in this movie. Oh my God.
[1:40:50] Speaker 4: He would actually fit in pretty perfectly.
[1:40:52] Speaker 2: Flawless.
[1:40:53] Speaker 1: He could be a pirate Lord. No problem. Uh, all right,
[1:40:56] Speaker 1: well let's hear from you out there when it comes
[1:40:59] Speaker 1: to at world's end, where do you rank it now
[1:41:01] Speaker 1: that we have three of them here to sort of, uh,
[1:41:04] Speaker 1: weigh against each other. Is this the worst of the three,
[1:41:07] Speaker 1: the best, in the middle? You tell us, as you
[1:41:09] Speaker 1: guys have been doing in the comments, what we missed,
[1:41:11] Speaker 1: your favorite part, least favorite part, all that stuff. Our
[1:41:14] Speaker 1: next one, the fourth installment, 2011's Pirates of the Caribbean
[1:41:20] Speaker 1: on Stranger Tides. And you said it, Tess, this is
[1:41:23] Speaker 1: Bardem and Penelope Cruz.
[1:41:26] Speaker 2: Yes.
[1:41:27] Speaker 1: Okay, so new people, at least. I mean, that part's exciting.
[1:41:30] Speaker 4: I love both those actors, so.
[1:41:32] Speaker 1: Right.
[1:41:33] Speaker 2: Um... Am I wrong?
[1:41:35] Speaker 3: I think we got Penelope, but I don't, I think
[1:41:37] Speaker 3: it's Ian McShane is.
[1:41:40] Speaker 4: Oh, Ian McShane?
[1:41:41] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:41:41] Speaker 2: Deadwood? That's right.
[1:41:42] Speaker 1: Oh, I like him.
[1:41:43] Speaker 2: I like him too.
[1:41:44] Speaker 1: I think Javier comes in number five. Okay, so Penelope's
[1:41:48] Speaker 1: showing up though.
[1:41:49] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:41:49] Speaker 1: GE, if you were horny for three, you're going to be.
[1:41:52] Speaker 4: I'm going to have to wait until Rachel comes back
[1:41:54] Speaker 4: before I watch this one.
[1:41:58] Speaker 1: All right so that's our next one 2011's on stranger
[1:42:02] Speaker 1: tides that drops here on no dunks next friday um
[1:42:06] Speaker 1: until next time keep a weather eye on the horizon
