[0:07] Speaker 1: Good evening, Sweet world, and welcome to another No Dunks
[0:11] Speaker 1: Emergency podcast presented by Fan Duel. It's still July one,
[0:15] Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, and we got a blockbuster to discuss here,
[0:19] Speaker 1: the Southern Lawyer. The floor is yours.
[0:22] Speaker 2: We got all save try.
[0:26] Speaker 1: We do indeed, Southern Lawyer. Celtics forward Jalen Brown is
[0:31] Speaker 1: headed to a division rival. I'm skeets. We got task
[0:34] Speaker 1: tk JD in the background pushing all the buttons. You're
[0:38] Speaker 1: joining us live on YouTube. Hit the like button, subscribe
[0:40] Speaker 1: podcast listeners, five star ratings and reviews. Jalen Brown is
[0:43] Speaker 1: going to the Philadelphia seventy six ers, and they're sending
[0:47] Speaker 1: back Paul George two first round picks and two second
[0:52] Speaker 1: round selections to Boston for Jalen Brown and his twitch
[0:56] Speaker 1: stream setup. That twenty twenty eight first round could convert
[1:02] Speaker 1: from a first to a pick swap that is more
[1:04] Speaker 1: favorable to the Celtics that two thousand and thirty one first.
[1:09] Speaker 1: It's unprotected, baby, So it happened. I sort of was
[1:14] Speaker 1: right with this one. Jalen Brown has been traded and
[1:17] Speaker 1: it didn't take all that long. Task Your thoughts on
[1:21] Speaker 1: JB going to the sixers.
[1:23] Speaker 2: My thought is, what did Jalen do? Why do they
[1:27] Speaker 2: hate him so much? I mean, old man Cohi Leonard
[1:31] Speaker 2: just got more for him than what Jaylen Brown just
[1:35] Speaker 2: got as a young guy. What is going on? That
[1:37] Speaker 2: is my first question. Two first round picks and PG
[1:43] Speaker 2: There's got to be something more that we learn about.
[1:45] Speaker 2: I mean, chumps to one hour ago was saying the
[1:48] Speaker 2: Celtics are strongly shopping him to eight to ten teams.
[1:53] Speaker 2: This ain't a strong package.
[1:55] Speaker 1: This is not no, it's not I agree with that.
[1:58] Speaker 2: You go out and wrongly shop and this is all
[2:02] Speaker 2: you get. This is my big question. Immediately. The Celtics
[2:06] Speaker 2: fans have to be upset at this whole scenario. I
[2:09] Speaker 2: get the whole idea of what Jalen Brown is, but
[2:13] Speaker 2: there's got to be something more than this out there
[2:15] Speaker 2: for him. I guess not.
[2:18] Speaker 3: Guess not because they did the deal. This is a
[2:21] Speaker 3: hilarious trade there. It isn't very often that a trade
[2:26] Speaker 3: happens in the NBA when both teams think they lost,
[2:29] Speaker 3: and the general reaction from every single person is lmao.
[2:33] Speaker 3: Because that's the main take I've seen from people. Jalen
[2:36] Speaker 3: Brown was traded for Paul George. Weren't the Celtics going
[2:39] Speaker 3: for Jannis onto Takumpo with Jalen Brown like a week ago.
[2:45] Speaker 3: Instead they're shipping out a Twitch stream for a podcaster.
[2:49] Speaker 3: I guess they're getting one good asset, that thirty one
[2:52] Speaker 3: unprotected pick, that is the jewel of the trade here
[2:55] Speaker 3: for the Celtics. But this is an insaneo move from
[2:59] Speaker 3: the reigning executive of the Year in Brad Stevens. I
[3:02] Speaker 3: can't believe Jalen Brown is getting traded.
[3:04] Speaker 2: For Paul George.
[3:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, Jalen Brown's future in Boston had been in question
[3:09] Speaker 1: for a couple of weeks now, and it felt like,
[3:12] Speaker 1: and you know, some of us were saying, once the
[3:15] Speaker 1: Celtics attempted to trade Jayalen Brown to the Bucks for
[3:17] Speaker 1: you honest, and Milwaukee instead went with the Miami heat
[3:21] Speaker 1: package that was, ugh, can you put the toothpaste back
[3:25] Speaker 1: in the tube? And so suddenly it turned into Boston
[3:28] Speaker 1: looking around at all these other teams and trade partners
[3:31] Speaker 1: hoping to get something for JB. We heard four first
[3:34] Speaker 1: round picks, they didn't get close to that. I mean,
[3:38] Speaker 1: it could be really the one unprotected in twenty thirty
[3:41] Speaker 1: one if it turns into a swap that twenty eight.
[3:44] Speaker 1: So yeah, Tass, I hear what you're saying. Like, you know,
[3:47] Speaker 1: it's like they were just like, get out of the
[3:51] Speaker 1: Jaalen Brown business.
[3:52] Speaker 3: Now.
[3:52] Speaker 1: Is it Jalen saying get me the hell out of here,
[3:54] Speaker 1: hating how you treated me, hated how this went down
[3:57] Speaker 1: and all that. Or is it just the other side
[3:59] Speaker 1: of things and it's like we'll take whatever, let's just
[4:01] Speaker 1: move on. It's crazy, this is nothing.
[4:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, even if it's Jalen saying get me out of here,
[4:09] Speaker 2: you would think there'd be more than a thirty six
[4:12] Speaker 2: year old Paul George that many contemplated as the worst
[4:16] Speaker 2: contract for a good chunk of his stay in Philadelphia.
[4:19] Speaker 2: Now he played a lot better this year. That being said,
[4:22] Speaker 2: he's thirty six, and so that plus two first round
[4:24] Speaker 2: picks is shocking. I thought, when we're talking about Portland,
[4:28] Speaker 2: we're talking about potentially the Donovan Klingen being the hang up.
[4:31] Speaker 2: At least you know you're going to get a good,
[4:33] Speaker 2: solid player for a long period of time along with picks.
[4:38] Speaker 2: So that's why shocking. I thought. I thought Brad would
[4:42] Speaker 2: be getting both parts. Very very good player right here,
[4:45] Speaker 2: right now to help out Jason Tatum plus picks that
[4:49] Speaker 2: did not happen as much as Paul George will be
[4:51] Speaker 2: fun on the wing for a year or two because
[4:54] Speaker 2: he's got two more years on his contract. Oh, come on,
[4:58] Speaker 2: we all expected more than Paul George at this well.
[5:01] Speaker 3: I expect that if the return is gonna be Paul
[5:04] Speaker 3: George and a couple of picks, that the Celtics would
[5:06] Speaker 3: just say no. I thought that that would not be
[5:09] Speaker 3: a good enough return for a guy who just had
[5:11] Speaker 3: literally the best year of his career, finished sixth in MVP.
[5:14] Speaker 3: He was a second team All NBA player, Jalen Brown.
[5:17] Speaker 3: He's under team control. Look, you can criticize his contract.
[5:21] Speaker 3: We're gonna get into that for sure when we talk
[5:23] Speaker 3: about the Sixers side of things. How much Jalen Brown
[5:25] Speaker 3: is making for how long that's a big time deal.
[5:28] Speaker 3: But doing it for Paul George. He could have just
[5:30] Speaker 3: said no and tried to run it back with Jason
[5:33] Speaker 3: Tatum and Jalen Brown. You could have shopped around for
[5:35] Speaker 3: another deal. I see very little upside in shipping out
[5:39] Speaker 3: a guy who has built his almost Hall of Fame
[5:43] Speaker 3: career like Jalen Brown. Probably will go into the Hall
[5:45] Speaker 3: of Fame by the time he puts up all of
[5:46] Speaker 3: his counting stats, he's got a title already. All of
[5:48] Speaker 3: that happened in house for Boston and they're basically salary
[5:52] Speaker 3: dumping him after his best year.
[5:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, and in a year that I mean, he's gonna
[5:56] Speaker 1: be what thirty years old at the start of next season,
[5:59] Speaker 1: turns thirty in October versa like in his prime and
[6:01] Speaker 1: coming off his best year as as Trey said, just
[6:04] Speaker 1: to back that up with the stats, basically twenty nine
[6:06] Speaker 1: points per game, seven boards, five assists. He helped lead
[6:09] Speaker 1: bost into fifty six wins. Now they had the first
[6:11] Speaker 1: round series loss to the Philadelphia seventy six ers here,
[6:14] Speaker 1: which is a funny little wrinkle to this, and maybe
[6:17] Speaker 1: they're looking at that roster and I've been saying this
[6:19] Speaker 1: for a little while here that they're going, I don't know,
[6:22] Speaker 1: we have a lot of holes or we've been exposed
[6:25] Speaker 1: a little bit here, Tatum Brown. Two super max salaries
[6:29] Speaker 1: like this is just gonna be next two impossible in
[6:33] Speaker 1: this CBA with how you get capped at these aprons
[6:36] Speaker 1: to manage and so you move off it. But man,
[6:39] Speaker 1: I didn't think it was gonna be for this. Like,
[6:41] Speaker 1: I'm with you, guys, like this is the fascinating part.
[6:44] Speaker 1: Even if you got to trade them, because you can't
[6:47] Speaker 1: come back to the table and everybody can play nice.
[6:51] Speaker 1: You could still wait for another month or two or three.
[6:55] Speaker 1: You know, we've seen trades happen in September all the
[6:58] Speaker 1: time when teams maybe get a little more desperate and
[7:01] Speaker 1: like throw another pick in or a prospect. But yeah,
[7:03] Speaker 1: to move like this is, I mean, it's flabbergasting. As
[7:08] Speaker 1: a lot of people are saying in the.
[7:09] Speaker 2: Chat, it's absolutely shocking and it's surprising because it sure
[7:14] Speaker 2: doesn't seem like according to Scham's unless he needs to
[7:19] Speaker 2: protect Jalen Brown. He is saying that Jalen Brown did
[7:22] Speaker 2: not demand a trade, and so why pull it off? Now?
[7:26] Speaker 2: Did he say I've got to celebrate the fourth of
[7:30] Speaker 2: July on my new team. I mean, there's no logic
[7:34] Speaker 2: unless there's something drastic happening behind the scenes. Why do
[7:38] Speaker 2: you trade somebody who just did so well for Paul
[7:42] Speaker 2: George another two years for him a year plus a
[7:45] Speaker 2: player option that he's going to accept, and two first
[7:48] Speaker 2: round picks that it's a little convoluted. I thought that
[7:51] Speaker 2: the laying out of as you said, skeets the twenty
[7:55] Speaker 2: to thirty one unprotected that's clear. But the twenty twenty
[7:58] Speaker 2: eight first round pick that convert from a first to
[8:01] Speaker 2: a swap that is more favorable to Boston. Doesn't that
[8:04] Speaker 2: just mean it's a pick swap? Or does it mean
[8:06] Speaker 2: that the Philadelphia seventy six ers have the Clippers pick
[8:10] Speaker 2: from James Harden in twenty twenty eight? So does that
[8:12] Speaker 2: mean it could swap to the Clippers pick? Just a
[8:15] Speaker 2: convoluted way of saying that. Maybe, so maybe it's, hey,
[8:18] Speaker 2: the Clippers are going to be bad, now maybe that'll
[8:22] Speaker 2: be the best one. But still not to have any substance.
[8:25] Speaker 2: I get what you're saying. Skates, Tatum and Brown together
[8:28] Speaker 2: maybe they just maybe they've seen the end of it.
[8:31] Speaker 2: And maybe Jalen Brown, as the analytics guy said, I mean,
[8:36] Speaker 2: he's more of a an more of a player that
[8:41] Speaker 2: gets things done in terms of production, in totality. But
[8:48] Speaker 2: when you talk about his isolation numbers, not all that good.
[8:51] Speaker 2: Is pick and roll numbers not all that good. I
[8:53] Speaker 2: still don't get it.
[8:54] Speaker 3: Still we tire this guy want a championship?
[8:56] Speaker 1: Oh, my god, this is ano fucking analytics guy is stupid.
[9:00] Speaker 3: I don't buy any of this.
[9:01] Speaker 1: By the way, Bobby Marks was talking out.
[9:04] Speaker 3: His ass, it's always going on.
[9:06] Speaker 1: He give me a break.
[9:07] Speaker 2: If you do look, this is ridiculous. It is ridiculous.
[9:10] Speaker 2: But if you do look at the second second spectrum
[9:12] Speaker 2: numbers of him, being his isolation numbers or his pick
[9:16] Speaker 2: and roll numbers, they're not all that efficient. And that's
[9:18] Speaker 2: all that it is. It's not good. This whole thing
[9:22] Speaker 2: isn't good here.
[9:22] Speaker 1: There are many superstars in Hall of Famers who haven't
[9:25] Speaker 1: been all that efficient. Kobe iverson, I mean, go down
[9:29] Speaker 1: the list. I'm not saying Jellen Brown is on their level. Maybe,
[9:32] Speaker 1: but like, come on, the guy scored thirty points per
[9:34] Speaker 1: game and has led a team, helped lead a team
[9:37] Speaker 1: to a championship.
[9:38] Speaker 2: So what's the logic. Did he demand I need to
[9:40] Speaker 2: be a number one guy right here, right now, and
[9:41] Speaker 2: Brad said, no, we can't do it, and then he
[9:44] Speaker 2: couldn't find anything better than this. Is that where the
[9:47] Speaker 2: disagreement was. I mean, that's kind of unless there's something
[9:51] Speaker 2: going on off the court that we don't know about.
[9:54] Speaker 2: But there's got to be something a little a little
[9:56] Speaker 2: deeper here, other than Brad not believing it because as
[9:59] Speaker 2: you get I said, why not just roll it out
[10:01] Speaker 2: and see, I don't know, maybe you can get close
[10:05] Speaker 2: to a championship again, because it wasn't that long ago
[10:07] Speaker 2: when you won a championship. It's it's very confusing.
[10:11] Speaker 3: Yeah, if it's just like the things that we've heard
[10:14] Speaker 3: on the twitch stream and through interviews throughout the year
[10:18] Speaker 3: about him being happier as a number one guy, you
[10:20] Speaker 3: can leave those on the back burner and still do
[10:22] Speaker 3: the deal in September. Give it a couple of months,
[10:25] Speaker 3: see if feelings get a little bit less hurt, See
[10:28] Speaker 3: if everybody's able to get back on the same page.
[10:31] Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, it's just shocking that this would happen.
[10:34] Speaker 3: This is a very forward, future thinking move from the Celtics, cause,
[10:38] Speaker 3: like the like you spelled out, this could be the
[10:41] Speaker 3: Clippers pick getting to the Celtics in twenty twenty eight.
[10:44] Speaker 3: The stream team was pushing back, saying that might be
[10:46] Speaker 3: the best pick they get rather than the thirty one unprotected. Nonetheless,
[10:49] Speaker 3: if you get a good one in twenty eight, you
[10:51] Speaker 3: get a good one in thirty one. That's a pretty
[10:53] Speaker 3: nice start for rebuild, but the Celtics aren't rebuilding. Jason
[10:57] Speaker 3: Tatum is in his prime. They just wasted a season
[11:00] Speaker 3: of Jason Tatum's prime with him being out with an
[11:02] Speaker 3: achilles injury. Now this feels like they've taken a step
[11:05] Speaker 3: back talent wise. We saw Porzingis leave, we saw Drew
[11:08] Speaker 3: Holliday be traded. A lot of talent has gone out
[11:12] Speaker 3: the door since Bill Chisholm has taken over. As soon
[11:16] Speaker 3: as the Celtics won their title in twenty twenty four,
[11:18] Speaker 3: all the talk was with Grusbek's trying to sell this
[11:21] Speaker 3: team because they're getting really expensive and they're gonna have
[11:23] Speaker 3: to be broken up. That is becoming a reality for
[11:26] Speaker 3: the Celtics because as soon as they won the title,
[11:27] Speaker 3: let's just spend done downhill. Ever since then, players going
[11:30] Speaker 3: out that they've done a good job of finding young
[11:33] Speaker 3: guys to replace them, but the top end talent is
[11:35] Speaker 3: not the same and that's kind of weird. Considering where
[11:40] Speaker 3: they were at the twenty twenty four season, it was
[11:42] Speaker 3: like they were set up for a long run and
[11:44] Speaker 3: now it's a question mark. Will they get back to
[11:46] Speaker 3: a conference finals. I think they've taken a step back
[11:48] Speaker 3: in the Eastern Conference for sure.
[11:50] Speaker 1: Where is Jason Tatum in all this? By your point, like,
[11:54] Speaker 1: have we heard a single thing from him about obviously
[11:59] Speaker 1: the honest rumor and involving his guy Jayleen Brown and
[12:02] Speaker 1: now all of that like very quiet, very quiet. So
[12:06] Speaker 1: I only bring that up because I would hope, I
[12:09] Speaker 1: would hope Brad Stevens in the Celtics front office are
[12:12] Speaker 1: talking to their other superstar in Jason Tatum about his
[12:16] Speaker 1: thoughts on this and ultimately going their separate ways and
[12:20] Speaker 1: obviously whatever the return is, Like you would.
[12:22] Speaker 2: Think, right, I haven't heard a thing.
[12:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. That speaks volume says they're saying
[12:28] Speaker 1: here in the stream team I think, I think, right,
[12:30] Speaker 1: he'll be fascinating to see. Crazy. I mean, so, what
[12:33] Speaker 1: have the Celtics done here in free agency? Correct me
[12:36] Speaker 1: if I'm wrong. Mitchell Robinson? Yep, they've signed you know,
[12:40] Speaker 1: he got he got paid a little bit more than
[12:41] Speaker 1: he was going to get from the Knicks. Mike Conley
[12:45] Speaker 1: has joined the team. Obviously, Paul George in this trade,
[12:49] Speaker 1: Ron Harper coming back, anything else I'm missing?
[12:51] Speaker 2: No, I think that's it.
[12:53] Speaker 3: Wow, that's it.
[12:55] Speaker 2: Yeah, Where do they stand in this Eastern Conference because
[12:58] Speaker 2: we're rolling with the Nick says the champs, and then
[13:01] Speaker 2: that second tier gets a little bit murky from there
[13:05] Speaker 2: because Cleveland made to the conference finals. Detroit is who
[13:10] Speaker 2: knows what they are at this point. And then you're Toronto, Philly, Miami, Boston.
[13:17] Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know where you guys want to
[13:19] Speaker 2: put them, but we're rolling with the Celtics. You're rolling
[13:22] Speaker 2: with Derek White, Paul George, Jason Tatum a sort of
[13:25] Speaker 2: as your big three, and Cada is your center, and
[13:28] Speaker 2: then you know those are your four guys you're going
[13:30] Speaker 2: to start, and then you got to kind of got
[13:31] Speaker 2: a wing trio of Sam Houser, Baylor Shiman and Ugo
[13:35] Speaker 2: Gonzalez that'll start.
[13:37] Speaker 3: I mean, they're bringing Jordan Pipping off the bench. They
[13:39] Speaker 3: should be pretty good. Believa, Well, the two guys that
[13:44] Speaker 3: were held out of the trade aren't going to start
[13:46] Speaker 3: for this team. That's ridiculous. The Celtics took a step back.
[13:50] Speaker 3: The Sixers I think are taking a step forward. We
[13:52] Speaker 3: haven't even really talked about their side. Does this feels
[13:55] Speaker 3: so Boston focused with the return Going back to the
[13:58] Speaker 3: Celtics being so mediocre. But I think this is pretty
[14:01] Speaker 3: good for the Sixers. They do have to pay Jalen
[14:03] Speaker 3: Brown a few more million dollars per year. They do
[14:06] Speaker 3: have to pay Jalen Brown for another season, longer than
[14:09] Speaker 3: they would have had to choose or then they would
[14:11] Speaker 3: have had to pay Paul George. I don't think the
[14:13] Speaker 3: timeline is a lot better. You know, Jalen Brown is
[14:16] Speaker 3: thirty years old. Maxi's twenty six vj Edge comes twenty one,
[14:19] Speaker 3: so a little bit closer than Paul George, but not perfect.
[14:24] Speaker 3: It makes them an interesting team, but there is literally
[14:26] Speaker 3: no depth on this team. They got a nice starting
[14:28] Speaker 3: five in Maxi, Edgecumbe, Jalen Brown, Dean Wade Now and
[14:32] Speaker 3: Embiid when he's healthy, but outside of that, I don't know.
[14:35] Speaker 3: I do think they're better than they were last year, though,
[14:37] Speaker 3: because I think Jalen Brown is good, more reliable than
[14:41] Speaker 3: Paul George. You're expecting Jalen Brown to play more games.
[14:44] Speaker 3: He's been sixty three plus in each of the last
[14:46] Speaker 3: five seasons. That's acceptable. He's definitely Embiid insurance as well.
[14:50] Speaker 3: If Embiid misses time, at least you're gonna have Jalen
[14:53] Speaker 3: Brown playing, I don't think that's always a guarantee when
[14:55] Speaker 3: it's Paul George. So I think Philly got better, I
[14:57] Speaker 3: think Boston got worse, and I think the team that
[15:00] Speaker 3: probably the happiest about this has to be the Raptors
[15:02] Speaker 3: a little bit, seeing right, the Celtics get worse, and
[15:05] Speaker 3: certainly the Knicks, Like the Knicks are laughing now, They're like,
[15:08] Speaker 3: we built our team to beat the Celtics and they
[15:10] Speaker 3: completely self imploded.
[15:12] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[15:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, And to speak on the Sixers, I mean it always,
[15:17] Speaker 1: unfortunately still with him on the roster, it's just going
[15:19] Speaker 1: to come down to whether it beat can stay healthy
[15:22] Speaker 1: and like what type of beat you're getting. So you
[15:24] Speaker 1: can laugh at that, you can take a drink to that.
[15:26] Speaker 1: I mean that's always the case with them, But man,
[15:28] Speaker 1: this is an incredible upgrade at that position. I'm sorry.
[15:32] Speaker 1: Paul George obviously missed time last year and then looked okay,
[15:35] Speaker 1: probably because he missed a lot of time, right, didn't
[15:38] Speaker 1: have to play a full season. But Jalen Brown, that
[15:40] Speaker 1: one thing that guy does is generally play put up stats.
[15:43] Speaker 1: He's also going to, I would assume take this very personally,
[15:48] Speaker 1: and you know, hopefully that's a good thing for Sixers
[15:51] Speaker 1: fans him with VJ and MAXI there as you're sort
[15:54] Speaker 1: of one, two three and you go from there. Yeah,
[15:55] Speaker 1: they've got other things to do here, like, hey, maybe
[15:58] Speaker 1: Ben Simmons is coming back to Philadelphia.
[16:00] Speaker 3: Seventy six They could use him.
[16:02] Speaker 1: They could really use the guy right now with Kelly
[16:04] Speaker 1: leaving as well. But you know, could this be a
[16:07] Speaker 1: Lebron team suddenly too?
[16:08] Speaker 3: Well?
[16:11] Speaker 1: What an upgrade?
[16:12] Speaker 3: Though?
[16:12] Speaker 1: I mean, this didn't This was not a lot for
[16:15] Speaker 1: a superstar player. He is, I mean, he's got his warts,
[16:18] Speaker 1: but Jylen Brown is awesome.
[16:19] Speaker 3: He is good.
[16:21] Speaker 1: I'm I'm a fan, so awesome move by them. Darryl
[16:24] Speaker 1: Mory is del Moury still in charge of the Philadelphia
[16:26] Speaker 1: seventy six ers. Is a Mory like move, isn't it.
[16:29] Speaker 3: It's Mike Gansey though, Yeah, I know, he's like superstar available.
[16:32] Speaker 1: Yep, we're interested. We'll go get him.
[16:36] Speaker 3: Yeah, but at least they got younger, they got healthier.
[16:40] Speaker 3: The embid contract I think becomes better when it's just
[16:43] Speaker 3: one bad, unreliable player on your team. That's a ceiling
[16:47] Speaker 3: razer more so than a floor lowerer. I think, and
[16:50] Speaker 3: that's the good thing about getting Jaylen Brown in here.
[16:53] Speaker 3: Like I do think it's going to be tough for
[16:55] Speaker 3: the Sixers to improve the team a lot past their
[16:58] Speaker 3: big three because it's big time contracts for Maxie Embiid
[17:03] Speaker 3: and Jalen Brown. Eventually Edge Comb's gonna come up for
[17:05] Speaker 3: an extension as well. Things are gonna get really tricky then.
[17:08] Speaker 3: I don't know if the Sixers are going to get
[17:10] Speaker 3: over the top the way they've been trying for the
[17:12] Speaker 3: entirety of the Embiid era, but they've got a better
[17:15] Speaker 3: chance of that happening now.
[17:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, they are thin, you know there there old guys
[17:20] Speaker 2: got even older, and you're Kyle Brown, Kyle Lowry gone,
[17:24] Speaker 2: Quentin Grimes also gone. And so there's the Embiid backed
[17:30] Speaker 2: up by Andre Drummond, backed up by Ariel huck Party
[17:34] Speaker 2: now and Keller Ubery's gone. I missed him as well.
[17:36] Speaker 2: So it's then as simple as that. It feels like
[17:40] Speaker 2: the Eastern Conference is almost everybody is even I know,
[17:45] Speaker 2: no disrespect to the Knicks, they're the favorites, but all
[17:48] Speaker 2: those teams, I mean, you've got some strong two's with
[17:51] Speaker 2: Donovan Mitchell and James Harden Kawhi and Scottie Barnes, Maxie,
[17:54] Speaker 2: Jaylen Brown, Jannison, Bam Cayden. If there's a durin there,
[18:00] Speaker 2: the Jason Tatum plus whoever I don't know, and probably
[18:03] Speaker 2: Lebron Jason George that's the all Church So I don't know.
[18:10] Speaker 2: Is the is the East kind of world as a whole?
[18:13] Speaker 3: And Gonzales, Yeah, that's their duo, backed up by Tatum
[18:17] Speaker 3: and PG. The East is spicy and wondering why did
[18:21] Speaker 3: we pop? Why did we get group announcements for the
[18:25] Speaker 3: NBA Cup. It's because Adam Silver knew this trade was
[18:27] Speaker 3: coming and this is really gonna spice things up for
[18:29] Speaker 3: the NBA Cup.
[18:30] Speaker 1: Oh, the Sixers are in the Group of Death.
[18:33] Speaker 3: They are, but I don't think the Celtics are. They
[18:36] Speaker 3: are in the same. No, they're not.
[18:37] Speaker 1: But I think the group of death was East Group B.
[18:39] Speaker 1: And it looked like the Sixers were maybe the worst
[18:41] Speaker 1: crime even wrong. We're like maybe one of the worst
[18:43] Speaker 1: looking teams, and that.
[18:44] Speaker 3: They were the lowest rated team. Yeah, Holy moly, East
[18:48] Speaker 3: Group is tough. I'm looking forward to, like if the
[18:53] Speaker 3: Celtics and the Sixers matchup at any time, jaaln Brown
[18:57] Speaker 3: feels like a kind of a natural matchup for Jason Tatum.
[19:00] Speaker 3: To me, I imagine these two will go ahead each
[19:02] Speaker 3: other every time those teams play against each other four
[19:05] Speaker 3: times a year. That's awesome.
[19:07] Speaker 1: Oh, I think we can basically lock in six or
[19:10] Speaker 1: Celtics for either Opening week or Christmas. You've got a story.
[19:16] Speaker 1: You got the narrative right there. I'd be shocked if
[19:18] Speaker 1: the NBA doesn't put them on one of those marquee
[19:20] Speaker 1: days if not both. So yeah, wild stuff. You're just
[19:26] Speaker 1: joining us. Hit the like button and subscribe. Jayalen Brown
[19:28] Speaker 1: going to the Philadelphia seventy six ers for Paul George,
[19:32] Speaker 1: maybe two first round picks and a couple second rounders
[19:37] Speaker 1: as well. That that are like, they come by way
[19:39] Speaker 1: of you know, other teams most favorable of, like the Warriors,
[19:44] Speaker 1: thunder Bucks, and then the second one and this is
[19:46] Speaker 1: again the second rounder, most favorable of the Wizards, Blazers,
[19:49] Speaker 1: and Suns. So you never know where that's gonna end up.
[19:52] Speaker 1: Don't worry, it'll be traded eight more times by the
[19:54] Speaker 1: time we get to you know, the twenty thirty thirty ones,
[19:58] Speaker 1: thirty two is thirty threes, like that.
[20:00] Speaker 2: That's exactly right.
[20:01] Speaker 3: That's why I mean, like, you look at the paragraph
[20:04] Speaker 3: on real GM's future drafts detailed to try and understand
[20:09] Speaker 3: how this pick could possibly get to the Celtics from
[20:12] Speaker 3: the Clippers via the Sixers, and it's like just so
[20:15] Speaker 3: much text to even understand the pathways this thing might take.
[20:18] Speaker 1: Somebody needs to create a better like visual representation of
[20:25] Speaker 1: said picks, right, you're nodding away. Could because I'm with you.
[20:28] Speaker 1: You go and read these and you go, you go
[20:30] Speaker 1: blind trying to make sense even got.
[20:31] Speaker 3: To have a flow chart, Yeah, just something like a
[20:34] Speaker 3: paragraphic text and cutting it for me.
[20:36] Speaker 1: No, No, I'm a visualner. Somebody use me and make
[20:40] Speaker 1: that happen or something like that.
[20:42] Speaker 3: Here's one other aspect that I feel like is going
[20:45] Speaker 3: to get lost and has gotten lost with us, Like,
[20:48] Speaker 3: how's the fit with Paul George on the Celtics. All
[20:51] Speaker 3: you think about is the contract with Paul George, Right,
[20:53] Speaker 3: that's all you really care about. But he's going to
[20:56] Speaker 3: a team where all they want you to do is
[20:57] Speaker 3: shoot three pointers. Paul George is a pretty good three
[20:59] Speaker 3: point yeah. Yeah, he shot fifty from three in the
[21:03] Speaker 3: first round against the Celtics and they're like, go for
[21:07] Speaker 3: that guy.
[21:07] Speaker 1: We need that guy.
[21:08] Speaker 3: So look, he had a down season I thought last year.
[21:11] Speaker 3: I did think Paul George kind of stepped it up
[21:13] Speaker 3: in the playoffs. He played exactly the way he did
[21:15] Speaker 3: during the regular season. But he was one of the
[21:17] Speaker 3: guys on the sixers that I thought was pretty fearless.
[21:21] Speaker 3: He's way past his prime, of course, but a Celtics
[21:24] Speaker 3: team that's based around trying to get up as many threes,
[21:26] Speaker 3: have as much spacing as possible and switching on defense,
[21:30] Speaker 3: bounce back season for Paul George as doesn't get busted
[21:34] Speaker 3: with peds.
[21:35] Speaker 1: Well, that's honestly though. I think why he's looked okay
[21:38] Speaker 1: in these latter parts of the season or in the postseasons,
[21:41] Speaker 1: like he's playing half the season. So if that's part
[21:44] Speaker 1: of the equation, then sure, I guess he could keep
[21:46] Speaker 1: doing it task at his age. But I mean, Kenny
[21:49] Speaker 1: do it for you know, seventy plus games and then
[21:52] Speaker 1: postseason runs. I don't know. I'm less convinced.
[21:54] Speaker 2: I guess yeah. I think you can imagine what the
[21:58] Speaker 2: Celtics are going to be. There's gonna be a lot
[22:00] Speaker 2: of Tatum running the show from up top, and the
[22:03] Speaker 2: passes will go to Paul George or Derek White or
[22:08] Speaker 2: Peyton Pritchard and Paul George fort On catch and shoot
[22:11] Speaker 2: threes last year. So it seems like they're solid. And
[22:13] Speaker 2: that's why I can't I can't yank them out of
[22:16] Speaker 2: the you know, that's sort of second tier. Well, playoffs.
[22:20] Speaker 2: They got to be a playoff team. I know the
[22:22] Speaker 2: East is tough in general. Yeah, I mean I mentioned
[22:27] Speaker 2: those teams because if we're talking six or eight playoff teams,
[22:32] Speaker 2: however we want to put it these days, the Knicks, Calves, Wraps, Pistons, Sixers,
[22:39] Speaker 2: and then Miami and Boston. I mean that's a lot.
[22:42] Speaker 2: So yeah, it seems like they're And I didn't mention Orlando.
[22:46] Speaker 2: It didn't mention Indiana because we don't know exactly what
[22:49] Speaker 2: they're gonna be, but yeah, Orlando, I didn't even think
[22:53] Speaker 2: of Atlanta.
[22:54] Speaker 3: There's gonna be teams that made moves this summer and
[22:57] Speaker 3: last summer that are gonna be left out of the
[23:00] Speaker 3: top eight, like they're not going to actually be playing
[23:02] Speaker 3: for the championship.
[23:03] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, those literally we literally mentioned ten teams when
[23:09] Speaker 2: you included Orlando, Indiana, and Atlanta. I think the East
[23:14] Speaker 2: might be sexier though. The discussion the headlines will be
[23:17] Speaker 2: is the East better than the West this year? Because
[23:21] Speaker 2: you know it's pretty even, and I won't remove Boston
[23:24] Speaker 2: from that because you can see the way they play,
[23:27] Speaker 2: and they're gonna be good if Tatum is back to himself,
[23:30] Speaker 2: because they will spray around, they will hit a lot
[23:32] Speaker 2: of threes, but they do take a little step back.
[23:38] Speaker 1: And then obviously the Hornets might step back obviously, Yeah,
[23:43] Speaker 1: but you know they still could be scrappy bunch. I
[23:47] Speaker 1: think the Wizards. I saw somebody in the stream team going,
[23:50] Speaker 1: are the Wizard's going to be better than the Celtics.
[23:52] Speaker 1: I'm like, I think that's a that's a little too far,
[23:55] Speaker 1: but they should improve. The basement Dwellers are going to
[23:59] Speaker 1: be the I would think. Still the Bulls. I think
[24:02] Speaker 1: still Milwaukee, Milwaukee. Yeah, those are your three. I would
[24:08] Speaker 1: pretty confident would be near the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
[24:11] Speaker 3: This is what Adam Silver wanted. He wanted every team
[24:14] Speaker 3: trying to win, and he's got twelve out of fifteen
[24:16] Speaker 3: in the Eastern Conference as of right now.
[24:19] Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess a part of the whole thing too,
[24:21] Speaker 1: the CBA is like, it's very difficult to have the
[24:24] Speaker 1: two superstars. I mean, it's just you're putting so much
[24:27] Speaker 1: money of your team into two guys, and if you're
[24:29] Speaker 1: if they're not, if whatever, if you're not convinced they
[24:32] Speaker 1: maybe they overlap a little too much or whatever, it's
[24:35] Speaker 1: difficult to then build your team. And the Celtics did
[24:38] Speaker 1: it want a champions gyms. Then they're like, well, we
[24:39] Speaker 1: immediately have to like get rid of half of the guys,
[24:42] Speaker 1: the guys that helped us win this thing.
[24:44] Speaker 3: And now they make here you go here, here's a
[24:46] Speaker 3: future take you can store in your back pocket. Maybe
[24:50] Speaker 3: we'll see it come January time. Paul George fits better
[24:53] Speaker 3: with Jason Tatum than Jaylen Brown ever did.
[24:55] Speaker 1: Oh Boston Media Mafia, they're gonna be going be running
[24:59] Speaker 1: with that by next week.
[25:00] Speaker 3: They'll say, the only time we actually won a title
[25:02] Speaker 3: with Tatum and Brown was that one year we ended
[25:04] Speaker 3: up stacked and everybody knew it was unsustainable, but we
[25:08] Speaker 3: got Paul Georgian here and it opened everything up inside.
[25:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, man, watch this, watch Joe Mizzula go back to
[25:14] Speaker 1: back for Coach of the Year. They're gonna be like
[25:17] Speaker 1: he lost Jalen Brown and they still won fifty two games.
[25:23] Speaker 1: Give it to him again, Give it to him again.
[25:25] Speaker 3: Give Brad the Executive of the Year again. All they
[25:29] Speaker 3: gotta do is get close to the same amount of wins.
[25:32] Speaker 2: Crazy, Yeah, And I know there's people here in the
[25:36] Speaker 2: stream team watching along saying I mean the saying that
[25:39] Speaker 2: the Celtics are gonna be far worse. But at the
[25:42] Speaker 2: same time, they did get bounced in the first round.
[25:45] Speaker 2: So yeah, they got to the first round as it,
[25:48] Speaker 2: fifty six and twenty six win, a fifty six and
[25:52] Speaker 2: twenty six record. But you know, can they not go
[25:56] Speaker 2: back to the playoffs and lose in the first round again?
[25:58] Speaker 2: With the healthy Jason Tate in this time, I'm sure
[26:00] Speaker 2: they can pull that off.
[26:03] Speaker 1: It's loaded, it's loaded. We'll see here that we named
[26:06] Speaker 1: ten good teams here or that think they should be
[26:08] Speaker 1: good and trade. You're right, there's gonna be some disappointed
[26:11] Speaker 1: teams that have either made a big splashy move or
[26:13] Speaker 1: thought they were taking the next step, and it's like, oh,
[26:16] Speaker 1: you congrats, you're back in the play in or you're
[26:18] Speaker 1: not even in the playoffs obviously, because you can't make
[26:20] Speaker 1: your way in we will see, all right, any anything
[26:23] Speaker 1: else here from the Sixer side of things, or the
[26:26] Speaker 1: Celtics or anything random TK What do you.
[26:28] Speaker 3: Got East group be as Spicy already said it. A
[26:32] Speaker 3: lot of talent out the door in the Chisholm era
[26:35] Speaker 3: already said it. No bench for the seventy six Ers
[26:39] Speaker 3: already said it. The Sixers got Jalen Brown for basically
[26:43] Speaker 3: what the Raptors paid for Kawhi Leonard. That's kind of crazy,
[26:47] Speaker 3: very yeah, plumbing.
[26:50] Speaker 1: It cost the Lakers more for Walker Kessler. Right, Oh
[26:53] Speaker 1: my goodness, we'll save that. We're gonna save that, guys.
[26:57] Speaker 3: One, isn't it?
[26:58] Speaker 1: Hey, the two Marquis Franches how to day today, didn't
[27:01] Speaker 1: they what all the Lakers were doing Walker Kessler and
[27:05] Speaker 1: their other signings, and then what the Celtics have done
[27:07] Speaker 1: here trading Jillen Brown for Paul George and you know,
[27:09] Speaker 1: some light draft capital. But we'll get in the Lakers
[27:12] Speaker 1: task on Friday's Drop podcast. You know, that's that's the
[27:14] Speaker 1: plan for now. I'm sure we'll be leading. Well maybe
[27:16] Speaker 1: Jayleen Brown is bump them again here, but we'll be
[27:18] Speaker 1: talking about him on Friday.
[27:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, as we left the office today and we saw
[27:23] Speaker 2: one Laker transaction come in, and then another one come in,
[27:28] Speaker 2: and then another Lakers transaction come in, and then a
[27:30] Speaker 2: fourth Is it not four?
[27:32] Speaker 1: Yeah? It was four, like within like forty five minutes
[27:35] Speaker 1: or something like that.
[27:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was really close. That swayed us. You know,
[27:39] Speaker 2: maybe if it's different teams, maybe maybe we pull out,
[27:43] Speaker 2: you know, pull over and say get back in the studio,
[27:45] Speaker 2: let's do a show about all those moves. But it's
[27:47] Speaker 2: when it's one team, I think you can wait till Friday.
[27:51] Speaker 1: But we're getting we're getting paid, you know, double time
[27:54] Speaker 1: for this. It is July first, it's Kenadday, a national
[27:58] Speaker 1: holiday to some of us, and we got an America
[28:00] Speaker 1: soccer game coming up here. Football. Excuse me what in
[28:02] Speaker 1: twenty minutes?
[28:03] Speaker 2: Right?
[28:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, We've had two great elimination games today, So I know,
[28:07] Speaker 3: I had so much going on in this trade broke.
[28:09] Speaker 1: First off, I was eating a nice bowl of salad.
[28:12] Speaker 1: That was great watching this game or an extra time.
[28:15] Speaker 1: Holy crap. I had it cranked too, I had the
[28:17] Speaker 1: volume sold out. Suddenly a guy's knocking on my door.
[28:20] Speaker 1: Dog's going crazy.
[28:21] Speaker 3: I'm like I literally.
[28:23] Speaker 1: Opened the door and goo not now, man, Jalen Brown's
[28:26] Speaker 1: been traded. You are laughing. He was a young guy
[28:28] Speaker 1: and he's trying to sell me like pest control. He's
[28:31] Speaker 1: like a lot of spiders in the neighborhood. I'm like
[28:33] Speaker 1: nature man. Yeah, fucking crazy, isn't it. So there was
[28:37] Speaker 1: a lot going on when this thing went down.
[28:39] Speaker 2: Cool.
[28:41] Speaker 3: I was renting a car when lamellow Ball got traded,
[28:45] Speaker 3: and I was like really excited to talk about it
[28:47] Speaker 3: with the guy who was ready to meet the car,
[28:48] Speaker 3: and he's just yelling across the street to another guy,
[28:51] Speaker 3: what the ah got traded? Another guy chimes in, Yeah,
[28:53] Speaker 3: but he's got a bad contract. That's funny when real
[28:57] Speaker 3: news just like happens out in Earth. So yeah, very exciting.
[29:02] Speaker 3: Now a team USA has got to pull it out
[29:04] Speaker 3: in stoppage time. That seems to be the way things
[29:06] Speaker 3: are going today.
[29:07] Speaker 1: Oh man, it's a nerve wracking.
[29:10] Speaker 2: Man. It almost felt like a basketball game watching Senegal
[29:14] Speaker 2: Belgium because the game winner was overturned because of a
[29:18] Speaker 2: video review. I mean overturned in that there was a
[29:21] Speaker 2: penalty called because of video review, and we're just waiting
[29:25] Speaker 2: to see what the referee decided to call. Oh yeah,
[29:26] Speaker 2: it's a penalty kick. Yeah, go ahead and score the
[29:28] Speaker 2: waiting goal. Now that was Yeah, I felt like I
[29:32] Speaker 2: was watching a basketball game watching it.
[29:36] Speaker 1: So look, we'll call it there and thanks everybody for
[29:38] Speaker 1: joining us live here.
[29:39] Speaker 3: One last thing from the stream team asked them who
[29:42] Speaker 3: won the trade?
[29:43] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[29:43] Speaker 3: Maybe a record breaking poll response, say the Sixers won
[29:49] Speaker 3: the trade?
[29:50] Speaker 1: Wow?
[29:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean seven percent is a pretty low
[29:53] Speaker 3: poll response. Yeah, hard to make a Celtics argument though.
[29:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's well, Dan, what a silly offseason already? Here,
[30:00] Speaker 1: like we have had some this is our fifth what
[30:03] Speaker 1: fifth big name? Is that safe to say that's been
[30:05] Speaker 1: traded here? We got Jannis, we got Lamello, we got
[30:11] Speaker 1: jaw Yeah, John Ran, we obviously have Jeleen Brown, Julius
[30:16] Speaker 1: Randall was gonna say we counting that.
[30:17] Speaker 3: It was an All star a star?
[30:19] Speaker 1: Is there anyone else I'm forgetting? Are those big ones?
[30:22] Speaker 2: I don't know? Would you call Walker Kessler a big one? No?
[30:28] Speaker 1: No, I won't go Wiggins? Okay, that's some he Look,
[30:30] Speaker 1: that's some big names. O Kawhi, come on, come on,
[30:34] Speaker 1: I knew I was forgetting something.
[30:35] Speaker 3: Come on, all right, I just feel like if we
[30:38] Speaker 3: stay on here long enough we can get another trade
[30:40] Speaker 3: out of somebody.
[30:41] Speaker 1: What it feels like, I don't know. I feel like now, look,
[30:45] Speaker 1: I was on the record, so I'm happy with my
[30:47] Speaker 1: prediction that this was going to happen and sooner rather
[30:50] Speaker 1: than later, the Jael and Brown of it all being traded.
[30:53] Speaker 1: But like now, now maybe everybody can stroll here for
[30:57] Speaker 1: a little bit outside of these other smaller pickups and
[31:01] Speaker 1: transactions here in free ages.
[31:02] Speaker 2: Smaller d Yeah, yeah, Jalen Duran will be really interesting
[31:06] Speaker 2: when you say smaller. That's all I'm thinking about right
[31:08] Speaker 2: now is the seventy six ers. My last point is
[31:12] Speaker 2: how small they're gonna be. They're gonna run out some
[31:14] Speaker 2: smallies and along with Maxi and VJ Edge, come La
[31:20] Speaker 2: Baron Phylon and Dean Wade along with Jalen Brown, like
[31:24] Speaker 2: they're gonna go one through four. They're gonna be super tiny,
[31:27] Speaker 2: especially when embiid gets injured. I mean, they might have
[31:29] Speaker 2: to go like super small. We didn't even mentioned Dean
[31:33] Speaker 2: Wade's Dean Wade because it's just a guy who gets
[31:36] Speaker 2: skipped over. But he is a sixer and he's gonna
[31:38] Speaker 2: be playing for them, at.
[31:40] Speaker 1: Least he's not small.
[31:41] Speaker 2: Actually he's gonna be one of theirs.
[31:44] Speaker 1: He's got the of a small guy.
