At around 2:30AM on the 13th of June 2018, in Melbourne, Australia, a man made his way through Princes Park on his route home from work. As he neared the soccer field, something caught his eye—a white bundle lying on the ground. Intrigued, he drew closer, only to discover the true nature of the mysterious object... [0:34] She was vulnerable and in the circumstances defenseless, in a most callous and cowardly
[0:39] manner, is set upon her. Melbourne is often regarded as Australia's cultural capital.
[0:54] It's a vibrant and cosmopolitan sety located in the southeastern state of Victoria.
[1:00] Nestled close to the residential colleges of Melbourne University. To the south lies Prince's
[1:06] Park. Since it has one of the city's most popular running tracks, it's
[1:11] often teeming with young students. It was originally established in the nineteenth century,
[1:17] but has evolved into a popular recreational space. The park spans about thirty eight
[1:23] hectors and features lush greenery, open spaces and recreational facilities. One of the
[1:30] park's most notable features is the historic Prince's Park Oval, which has a long
[1:34] and storied history in Australian rules football. The oval is the former home ground
[1:41] of the Carlton Football Club, one of the oldest and most successful clubs in
[1:45] the Australian Football League. The club led its home games at Prince's Park until
[1:49] two thousand five, before relocating to the Melbourne Cricket Ground and later to Marvell
[1:56] Stadium. Beside Prince's Park lies Melbourne General Cemetery, and to the north it
[2:02] borders a corner of Royal Parade and Park Street. It's close to all of
[2:07] the pubs that dot Sydney Road and a scene as a short cut for people
[2:12] making their way to and from work or to him from pubs. In March
[2:16] of twenty and eighteen, a woman was sexually assaulted close to Prince's Park.
[2:22] The assailant had approached the woman from behind, trapped her in a bear hug,
[2:25] and the pair fell to the ground where he sexually assaulted her. The
[2:30] victim screamed with an earshot of nearby homes and managed to escape. She later
[2:36] commented it was the only time I thought someone could rip me out of this
[2:39] world. The incident left a palpable fear in its wake, with many women
[2:46] hesitating to walk the park's paths alone, especially after dark. Tragically, however,
[2:53] less than three months later, another young woman would confront that very fear,
[2:58] but she wouldn't make it out alive. Eureticie Dixon was born to parents
[3:15] Jeremy Dixon and Kate Walters in Melbourne, Australia, on the tenth of November
[3:21] nineteen ninety five. She had an older sister, poll Cotton, and a
[3:25] younger brother, John, who was born six years after her Euretsy later told
[3:31] people that her mother had named her after a figure in Greek mythology, Eureticsy,
[3:37] a daughter of Apollu. Her mother had told her that before she was
[3:40] conceived, she had dreamed of having a daughter with that name. But just
[3:46] a year after John was born, the family received a knock on their front
[3:51] door from police. They were there to inform them that their mother had been
[3:54] found dead in a shopping center. Tragically, Kate had struggled with heroin addiction
[4:01] and she had overdosed accidentally. Jeremy, who was an anarchist and political activist,
[4:10] was left to raise Euretice and her siblings alone, but he provided them
[4:14] with everything they could ever want in life. The family lived in a top
[4:18] floor flat in a three story public housing block around one hundred meters east of
[4:23] Prince's Park. Those who knew the family said that Jeremy did a great job
[4:28] as a single father, and he lived for his children. While growing up,
[4:33] Euretisi began to notice that she was different than the other people in her
[4:36] class at school. She was quiet, unreserved, and enjoyed to keep herself
[4:42] to herself and read a good book. She had always stood out from the
[4:46] crowd with her bold and bright outfits to the way she composed herself. Those
[4:51] who knew growing up said that she struggled to fit in at school, but
[4:55] she soon found a community that understood, accepted, and loved her. While
[5:00] attending Prince's Hill Secondary College in Carlton, North your Editsy discovered her love of
[5:05] performance and comedy. She was a regular performer with the Burwood Students Theater company
[5:12] based in Deacon University. Her drama teacher, Tracy Carroll, described her as
[5:17] the quintessential passionate drama kid. She further said she had a select and tight
[5:24] knit group of other non shoe offs and was oblivious to being cool or popular.
[5:29] She was loving, loyal, authentic. After your Editsy graduated, she
[5:34] studied drama and performed in a Brunswick theater group. She was described as an
[5:41] independent spirit who always provided an ear in wise words for anybody having a hard
[5:46] time. Much like her father, she was an anarchist an anti authoritarian,
[5:51] as well as a talented debater. Eur Editsy had ambitions to become a well
[5:57] known comedian, and after university she started performing comedy gigs in the local bores
[6:02] of Melbourne. A tall and striking woman, whenever she stepped out onto the
[6:08] dimly lit venues, she commanded the stage. She had a smart and sharp
[6:14] comedic style and an infectious smile. One of her friends, Gy Ashman,
[6:18] recollected Euretitsy was usually pretty quiet, but one of the nicest people you could
[6:25] ever meet, and could destroy with the mic in her hand. Euretics,
[6:29] who was known for her wit and intelligence, blazed a trail in stand up
[6:33] comedy, blanding confrontational humor with wit. Her breakthrough came at the Yes or
[6:40] Woman open mic comedy night at Studio fifty nine in twenty and sixteen. The
[6:46] venue was packed and Eureedssy had the audience in stitches with every joke she delivered.
[6:53] Despite her staunch feminism, she didn't shy away from poking fun at her
[6:58] own values. Ah, it's just because I have a bit of a bit
[7:01] of a tendency to worry a lot about things that I shouldn't worry about.
[7:10] Sometimes I worry we're gonna wind up in a slave society, you know,
[7:18] just go late things, just noble ship, right, be worried, be
[7:27] really ship. It's not gonna happen, but ages we'll all be dead by
[7:32] then. It's not gonna happen till the robots take over. Yah. But
[7:41] I can't stop worrying. In my mind, I'm like shit, and I'm
[7:46] trying to be more optimistic. So I'm like slave society. That means no
[7:54] one has any rights. We'll finally have gender equality. Her comedy routine involved
[8:05] taking feminist or progressive political orthodoxy and turning it inside out and upside down to
[8:13] reveal the humorous side. Our good friend Karen Butler said of her, I
[8:18] couldn't get my head around how she could stand on stage even when the crowd
[8:20] didn't get her humor, it didn't shake her. She could stand tall against
[8:26] that. You just don't get sensibility like that in someone so young, because
[8:31] at twenty two years old, most don't have enough to say. But she
[8:35] did. On the evening of the twelfth of June twenty eighteen, your Edissy
[8:48] posted a link on Facebook to your upcoming comedy show. She wrote, I'm
[8:52] doing this tomorrow. You guys should come along and watch it Will be a
[8:56] Good Night. She was performing a comedy gig at the Highlander Bar, located
[9:03] along a lame way between Flinders Street and Flinders Lane in Melbourne, CBD.
[9:09] Each week, the Highlander Bar put on a free comedy night and emerging comedians
[9:13] would take turns on the mic. The next night, at eight pm,
[9:20] Eretissy arrived at the Highlander Bar. She was giddy with excitement to see that
[9:24] the bar was packed. She entered the upstairs function room to prepare for her
[9:31] routine. Her boyfriend Tony Magnuson met her there and wished her the best of
[9:37] luck. Ere Edessy Grace the stage at eight fifty pm. Her performance was
[9:43] part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the bar was filled. She was
[9:50] a regular at that bar and was known for her ability to command the attention
[9:54] of the entire room. She performed one of the workers James Former and commented
[10:01] everybody who knew at the bar would comment on what a lovely and polite person
[10:05] she was. She was quite shy and very reserved, which was strange because
[10:09] once she got up on the stage, she'd have the attention of the whole
[10:13] room and they'd all be laughing. During her performance, Eretssy discussed feminism,
[10:20] gender writes, and poked fun at herself. Her set lasted about ten minutes,
[10:24] and after she left the stage, she watched the rest of the performers
[10:28] alongside her boyfriend Tony. By ten twenty p m, all of the performers
[10:33] had concluded and Euretssy and Tony kept off the night with a drink at the
[10:37] bar before it was time to return home. They laughed at about ten forty
[10:43] p m and walked to Wilworth's on Flinders Street, where Euretissy purchased a pallio
[10:48] bar for her journey home. Tony recollected she was happy and content. She
[10:56] gave me a hug, blew me a kiss, and said she was going
[10:58] for a walk. She was on top of the world because her gig went
[11:01] so well. Tony was getting the tram back home, but Euretis said that
[11:07] she was going to walk, so they went their separate ways at Swanston Street.
[11:13] Toty boarded the tram heading towards Saint Kilda Road, while Euretisse set off
[11:18] in the direction of Prince's Park alone. It was a park that euretissee knew
[11:24] well. It was located in an affluent northern suburb of the city and wasn't
[11:28] too far away from her apartment. She often walked through it after performing her
[11:35] comedy gigs in the city. She had a habit of slipping off her socks
[11:39] and shoes and walking barefoot. Euretisy had said to friends that she liked the
[11:45] feeling of coal clipped grass on her souls, but she always made sure to
[11:48] message her friend or whoever she was with earlier that night to let them know
[11:52] she was almost home. Just before midnight, she messaged her boyfriend Tony on
[11:58] Facebook, I'm almost home safe, how about you. At about two forty
[12:11] a m. In the early morning ours, a man identified only as mister
[12:15] Williams was cutting through Prince's Park. He was walking home from work and crossed
[12:22] over two of the soccer pitches. When he drew close to the third soccer
[12:26] pitch, something on the ground caught his attention. It appeared to be a
[12:33] white bundle, but as mister Williams got closer, he could see that it
[12:37] was the lifeless body of a young woman. Her dress was ripped open at
[12:43] the waist and her brow was pulled down exposing her breasts. Her underwear had
[12:48] been ripped in half. She was lying on her back with her legs bent.
[12:54] It was Eureedisy Dixon. Mister Williams rushed over to Eureedissy and cry storm
[13:00] beside her. He tried to feel for a pulse, but there wasn't one.
[13:05] He immediately called triple zero, an attempt at CPR and mouth to mouth
[13:11] resuscitation, but it was evident that Euretsy was far beyond saving. Her body
[13:16] was transported to the Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy. The pathologists found that
[13:24] Euretyssy had sustained blunt force injuries to the head, torso, and limbs,
[13:30] as well as bruises to the right jawline, hans, knees and legs.
[13:35] Euretyssy had also sustained a bruise to the forehead with an underlying hemorrhage. There
[13:41] was evidence that Euretsy had been raped with force, with two tears to the
[13:46] edge of her vagina. Euretsy was alive when the sexual assault had happened,
[13:54] and then she was strangled to death. She had been strangled with such force
[13:58] that there were bruises and abrasions to her neck as well as to the muscles.
[14:05] There was also hemorrhage to the left hyoid bone. The pathologist took swabs
[14:09] during the autopsy and these were submitted for analysis. Semen was discovered on a
[14:16] swab from eur Oedss's thigh in two areas of her dress. As news of
[14:31] Eureedyss's murder made headlines, tributes for her came flooding in from the comedy scene
[14:35] throughout Melbourne. The Sunday Age described her as a universally loved and talented artist,
[14:43] while The Highlander Boar said in a statement, we are deeply shocked and
[14:48] saddened by the tragic news of the death of Euretssy Dixon. She was a
[14:54] remarkable, talented, kind, unique and universally loved person. The entire staff
[15:00] are shattered and heartbroken. Julia Morris, an Australian comedian, television presenter and
[15:07] actress, posted on her Twitter account, I'm absolutely shattered to hear of the
[15:11] despicable death of your Edisy Dixon. Our comedy community is like a family and
[15:16] this news is beyond heartbreaking. My deepest condolences go to her family and friends.
[15:24] An important and funny voice has been extinguished. Other female comedians reacted to
[15:30] the news by offering lifts to one another to him from shows, Most of
[15:35] them traveled a lonely at night, with comedian Rose Calligan commenting, it's part
[15:41] of our job. She added that sometimes she would get a lift or,
[15:46] if she could afford it, an uber, but she said that sometimes the
[15:50] easiest and most affordable way back home is to walk. For comedians starting out,
[15:56] they often performed for free or for very little money. They perform at
[16:00] bars and clubs at night. It wasn't uncommon for them to walk home alone
[16:04] in the dead of the night. But this could be said for women across
[16:08] the globe going to and from work, and the murder of Eureedites struck fear
[16:14] into the community. Women were left too afraid to walk anywhere at night,
[16:19] knowing that there was a predator on the loose. They didn't know if he
[16:23] was going to attack again, and if so, who and when. Detective
[16:30] Andrew Stamper touched on this fear, commenting, if people have any concerns at
[16:36] any time for their own security, call Triple zero. We would much rather
[16:41] have too many calls than too few. There was a rallying cry in Melbourne
[16:45] for the safety of women. But for this to happen, men needed to
[16:48] change. Women should have the right to walk home alone day or night and
[16:55] not be afraid of being raped and murdered. Victoria Premier Daniel Andrew's touched on
[17:00] this on Facebook, posting she had a phone, she was using it,
[17:06] she was keeping an eye on her surroundings, looking out for herself, being
[17:11] responsible, doing everything we expect. But Euretic did not make it home safe.
[17:18] He then added, so our message to Victorian women is this, stay
[17:22] home, or don't go out with friends at night, or don't go about
[17:29] your day exactly as you intend on your terms. Because women don't need to
[17:33] change their behavior. Men do. In the wake of eur Edyss's murder,
[17:38] a fundraising page was set up to help raise money for her family. In
[17:45] less than twenty four hours, it had surpassed its original goal of one thousand
[17:48] dollars and raised more than fifteen thousand. It eventually swelled to over seventy four
[17:55] thousand dollars, and Euretys's father said he wanted to donate a large portion of
[18:00] the charities that his daughter supported. The spot in Prince's Park where Eurretisses's body
[18:06] was fawned quickly became a makeshift memorial. People came out and droves to leave
[18:11] bouquets of flowers, cards of condolences, and other trinkets on the grass close
[18:15] to the soccer goal post. A hard shaped chain of yellow and orange jungles
[18:22] was placed close to the running track. Nearby, a female police officer placed
[18:27] on a single white rose. The investigation was already underway when detectives announced they
[18:37] believed that Eurredissey had been attacked by a stranger. It was already the general
[18:44] consensus when they made the announcement, as Eurytissy had been walking straight home alone.
[18:51] They also announced that there was no connection between Euratiss's murder and the earlier
[18:55] sexual assault. Time stories often linger in your mind long after you've covered them.
[19:03] This was particularly true for me while working on the Jackal in the Wallaby
[19:06] case for my podcast series. The interviews with those connected to the case left
[19:10] a lasting impression on me. In today's hectic world, finding a moment of

[20:18] last known movements and to try and identify a person of interest, detectives began
[20:23] to score CCTV footage from the root you would have taken to Prince's Park.
[20:29] They first began checking the cameras at Swanston Street, where Euraedissy and Tony had
[20:33] gone their separate ways. She could be seen walking towards a pedestrian crossing at
[20:40] the intersection of Flinders Street and Swanston Street. First, everything appeared to be
[20:47] normal. When detectives looked at the footage closer, they could see a mom
[20:55] He was dressed in a gray hoodie and was loitering near a construction area and
[21:00] clearly watching your Edyssy. As she crossed the road at the pedestrian crossing,
[21:07] the man began to follow her. Detectives obtained further CCTV footage from the area,
[21:14] which clearly showed the same man following her further down the road. He
[21:18] maintained a constant distance behind her. Whenever she slew down or stopped, the
[21:26] man did the same. Whenever possible, he moved to the opposite side of
[21:30] objects which obstructed her view of him. Whenever he did this, he appeared
[21:37] to roll a cigarette, almost as if he was trying to make himself appear
[21:41] innocent in case anybody was watching. The same man followed your Edysy all the
[21:45] way over to Melbourne Central Shopping Center. She walked on a set of stairs
[21:52] and the man arrived at the stairs. Moments later. Eurretysy walked around a
[21:59] large pillar and was walking back up the stairs towards the man. He could
[22:03] clearly be seen on the CCTV footage. Using the pillar as cover, The
[22:10] man appeared to let your Edissy walk ahead of him as she continued walking north
[22:15] up Swanston Street. At one point she stopped and waited for the lights to
[22:19] change. The man stopped at a pillar close to her and rolled a cigarette.
[22:26] Once the lights changed, she continued walking and the man continued following her.
[22:32] The man maintained a steady fifteen to twenty seconds distance behind Your Edissy until
[22:37] she walked past the University of Melbourne on Royal Parade. This was at eleven
[22:42] fifty p m. The man was now fifty seconds behind her. As she
[22:48] continued north, he increased his speed and within two minutes he had closed the
[22:52] gap to only twenty seven seconds. This was the last time that the CCTV
[22:59] cameras fixed up Euretissey. From here she would have continued walking along Royal Parade
[23:04] to Prince's car. It was clear that the man had been following Euretissy for
[23:10] more than an hour, but she hadn't noticed him. After obtaining the CCTV
[23:15] footage, detectives released an image of the man and said they wanted to speak
[23:21] with him. On the night of the fourteenth of June, nineteen year old
[23:30] James Todd was at the home he shared with his parents when he was contacted
[23:36] by a friend of his. She told him that she had just seen a
[23:40] news segment on Eureedss's murder and the image of the man the detectives wanted to
[23:45] speak with. This friend told Todd that it was clearly him in the surveillance
[23:51] image and told him he needed to reach out to police, where she would
[23:55] contact them herself. After hanging up, Todd called the broad Metal's police station.
[24:02] He told the operator that it was him in the surveillance footage, but
[24:06] said that he had nothing to do with Euretiss's murder. He said he'd been
[24:10] out with Frands that night and was making his way home. The operator asked
[24:15] Hod to come to the police station, which he did at eight thirty p
[24:19] m. Accompanied by his mother. Tod sat down with the detectives, but
[24:26] he appeared to be nervous. He gave at least three different and conflicting accounts
[24:32] of where he was and what he was doing the night that Euretissy was killed.
[24:37] Todd said that he had been drinking that night, smoked to marijuana and
[24:41] had felt sick. He said he had missed the last train home so fell
[24:45] asleep in the Royal Park railway station and when he woke up he had messages
[24:51] from friends saying he was on television. The detectives then explained to Todd the
[24:56] forensic process which was going to be undertaken. They informed him that he was
[25:02] going to receive a full examination of any injuries, as well as DNA samples
[25:07] that would be compared to those found at the crime scene. Tod then looked
[25:11] on at his feet solemnly. He then responded, don't worry about the DNA.
[25:19] I did it. I will tell you everything. James Todd was the
[25:30] second of three brothers, and he lived at home in broad Meadows. The
[25:34] family had lived in what was described as catastrophic squalor. Even from the exterior,
[25:41] passer by could discern the dilapidation that awaited within. The garden was overrun
[25:48] with plants, the fence was teetering on the brink of collapse, and trash
[25:52] was strewn about. Inside, the scene was one of neglect and decay.
[26:00] Trash overtook every corner, while vermin scattered around amidst the grime. The kitchen
[26:07] had even collapsed into the rotting floor. In Todd's world, a hotplate sat
[26:12] in the bathroom beside a clocked toilet, serving as the makeshift kitchen. Food
[26:18] littered the floors of the other rooms, a feast for mice and rats.
[26:25] This was Tau's reality, and it was shaped by his diagnosis of autism.
[26:30] An eight ah decent's childhood, His journey was marked by a constant struggle to
[26:34] belong, plagued by disruptive behavior in school and early indications of anger issues,
[26:41] leading to frequent transfers between primary schools. His teachers extended their support and he
[26:49] received attention from several child psychologists. Despite their efforts, he faced expulsion from
[26:56] high school Judy's problematic behavior. However, by twenty eighteen, things were looking
[27:03] better for Tod. He had enrolled in a hospitalitay employment and training program at
[27:10] the hester Hornbrook Academy. Those who knew him there said that he was friendly,
[27:15] but they would soon learn that this was only a facade for At night,
[27:22] Todd locked himself in his filthy bedroom and obsessively watched snoffporn, a genre
[27:29] where the woman always ends up dead. After Todd told detectives he would tell
[27:38] them everything, he then changed his version of events from the night that Euretissy
[27:45] was killed. But even still, this varied from the surveillance footage the detectives
[27:51] had already collected. Todd tried to claim he had only seen Eurretyssy about five
[27:57] or ten minutes at most before she reached the park. The truth was that
[28:03] he had followed her for more than an hour. According to Todd, he
[28:07] asked Euretissy for directions, but said that she could barely tell him which way
[28:12] was which. He said that at this moment he decided he could grab her
[28:18] bag and run off. Once they were off the street, he followed Eureedissy
[28:23] into the park and told detectives that she was stumbling around and was probably not
[28:29] in a position to defend herself. He stated she was really quite intoxicated.
[28:37] She looked like she was on drugs. This was another lie. Euretissy hadn't
[28:42] been drinking that night, and tests from her autopsy had proven this. According
[28:48] to Todd, he only wanted Euretiss's money, but he said that as he
[28:52] grabbed her, she turned around and hit him. He said to detectives he
[28:56] attempted to defend himself and both he and Eureedyssy fell to the ground. Todd
[29:03] claimed that he didn't want to get in trouble for what he described as a
[29:07] little bit of money, so he began to choke your Dyssy and didn't stop.
[29:12] He blamed his actions that night on the alcohol in marijuana he had smoked,
[29:17] telling detectives he wasn't thinking normally, but detectives knew that Todd wasn't telling
[29:22] the truth. Eureedyssy had been raped, and when this was put to Todd,
[29:27] he responded that he had tried to rape her, before adding he was
[29:33] unsuccessful. He then apologized for repeatedly lying and gave another account of what had
[29:40] happened. He said that the truth was that he had followed your Edyssy into
[29:45] the park, grabbed her and pulled her to the ground. When she began
[29:49] to scream, he said he thought, well, I've already taken it so
[29:55] far. He admitted to sexually assaulting Eureedysy with his fingers and attempting to use
[30:02] his penis. He said that when he couldn't maintain an erection, he slapped
[30:07] her on the lips with his penis. Euretyssy was desperately fighting for her life,
[30:14] but Todd got on top of her and strangled her to death. He
[30:18] said, I was over the top of her attempting to restrain her hands.
[30:23] I managed to get my knees up towards her shoulders in an attempt to keep
[30:27] her hands from hitting me. After the third and final confession, Todd provided
[30:33] blood samples. It's DNA came back as a perfect match to the DNA and
[30:38] the semen that was found on your Odysses's thighs and on her dress. Detectives
[30:45] then obtained a search warrant for his cellphone an iPod and found that the morning
[30:48] after Eureedyssy was killed, he had googled Prince's Park. He read a number
[30:55] of articles reporting on the discovery of Eureedyss's body. He then repeated the exact
[31:00] same search just five minutes later. Then, at six fifty seven am,
[31:07] he searched the term strangulation and rape porn. He clicked the first website,
[31:12] which provided a video category titled strangled and brutally raped. From here, he
[31:21] navigated to a subcategory titled brutal rape, choking till death, strangle forced videos,
[31:26] and he viewed two pages. Three minutes later, Todd visited another pornographic
[31:33] website, where he viewed a number of pages on the homepage. He then
[31:38] searched the website for brunette women. At seven o three a m. He
[31:44] searched the term curvey emugirl and watched the first video that appeared. He then
[31:51] searched through four pages of pornographic videos. Later that same afternoon, Todd once
[31:56] more googled Prince's Park and read more articles about the discovery of Euretices's body.
[32:05] The same day that Todd haunted himself into detectives, he was charged with one
[32:08] countage of rape and murder. His defense attorney, John Riordan, applied to
[32:15] have his name an image suppressed from media reports. He said that his client
[32:21] had been diagnosed with autism and he feared for his mental health. He further
[32:27] said that Todd's family had indicated his condition made him socially regressive. He commented
[32:35] he struggled in certain social environments and that may have a significant impact on him
[32:38] in custody, according to defense attorney Riordan. He also feared that if Todd
[32:45] were named, his fifteen year old brother could experience distress. However, Magistrate
[32:51] Andrew McKenna turned on the request and said that Todd could be photographed and identified
[32:57] in the media. Following the here ring, Todd's father, Jason, spoke
[33:00] of the family shock and horror. He commented, we are struggling, obviously.
[33:07] It's a huge thing that we didn't think we would ever have to deal
[33:10] with in our lives. We had no inkling anything like this was possible to
[33:15] happen. He offered his condolences to your edss's family and said that he was
[33:21] ashamed that his family was part of what had happened. After Todd was remanded
[33:31] into custody, a vigil was held for eu Editsy at the park where she
[33:36] had lost her life. The organizer p Suveri commented in the media, Princess
[33:42] Park is a beautiful community space and it's about reclaiming that place and acknowledging that
[33:47] women are often put at risk by the behavior of men, and that it's
[33:52] just not good enough. The emphasis is on reclaiming that space. It belongs
[33:58] to everyone and everybody deserves to feel safe there. But before the vigil was
[34:02] held, crude graffiti of a twenty five meter by five meter ejaculating penis was
[34:08] spray painted over the memorial for your Dyssy. Everybody was surprised when fellow comedian
[34:15] Andrew Noultsch was arrested and charged with criminal damage, offensive behavior and marking offensive
[34:21] graffiti. Much like your Editsy, he was an aspiring comedian and he was
[34:27] known to friends of hers. On social media, he had posted about her
[34:31] murder, writing the mainstream media is running a brainwashing program which is designed to
[34:38] make everyone think that males are bad. Despite the setback, thousands of people
[34:45] came together for the vigil, huddled in silence underneath the dark sky. He
[34:51] stood before the crowd and said, what happened to your Editsy has resonated with
[34:55] so many people in Melbourne and Iran in Australia. The message of the vigil
[35:00] was clear to honor and grave Eureticsy, but to send a message that women
[35:06] have the right to be safe anywhere, at any time. There was then
[35:10] a twenty minute silence, during which the lights in the field were switched off.
[35:15] People could be heard sobbing as the flames from their candles flickered in the
[35:20] breeze. The silence was then broken by a choir singing or on the makeshift
[35:24] memorial. Other vigils across Australia were held in tandem, including one in Sydney's
[35:31] Hyde Park where the names of dozens of recent victims of gendered violence were read
[35:37] aloud. In Perth, around three hundred people gathered at Hyde Park to light
[35:43] candles, hand out flowers and pay tribute to EURETSSY. Western Australia Minister for
[35:49] Women Simoon mc girk said to the crowd, it's also about solidarity. As
[35:54] women, we are well schooled in how to manage our personal safety day in
[36:00] and day out, week to week, and for some it's are to r
[36:05] We all know good men. We need these men to be standing beside us
[36:08] and calling for change with us. Their involvement and capacity to lead and step
[36:13] forward is critical. Then, on the twenty first of June, eu Edyssey
[36:19] was led to rest. Her friends and family gathered at a funeral home in
[36:23] Brunswick, but the media weren't allowed near the service as the family had asked
[36:28] for privacy. Pictures of You by the Cure and Johnny Cash as will Meet
[36:32] Again We were among the songs of the service. Eureedess's great uncle Eric Dixon,
[36:40] her sister Polly Cotton, and her drama teacher Tsey Carroll and five friends
[36:45] provided eulogies. Then, in September, Andrew Noltsch pleaded guilty to defacing eur
[36:52] Ediss's memorial in court. Is defense attorney Glenn Thaxton, said he knew it
[36:58] would upset eur Edisse's family. It said that he didn't like feminists. He
[37:04] stated his main feeling was making a political statement. There's quite a lot of
[37:09] symbolism about what he had drawn, as he said in an interview, if
[37:15] it had been a floor, then it wouldn't have got the desired effect.
[37:19] The defense attorney also said that his client wasn't remorseful, but said that he
[37:23] wouldn't do it again simply because he didn't appreciate the attention it had drawn to
[37:28] him and his family. Magistrate Olivia Trumbull, who described his actions as despicable,
[37:36] sentenced him to an eighteen month community corrections order. In which he must
[37:40] complete two hundred dollars of community service. It's out of court, Andrew Noltsch
[37:46] said to reporters, I'm an advocate for equal rights for both genders. Not
[37:52] all men are bad. I did the political graffiti because the mainstream media and
[37:58] feminists turned the tragic murder of EU Attissy Dixon into one giant political mam heating
[38:04] event. He also spoke with nine News. I apologized to family in any
[38:08] offense I have caused, but this, this needed to be done. It
[38:14] was a revenge attack. It was not at all on euridity or anything.
[38:17] It was an attack on the media, on this huge issue that was being
[38:22] turned into a women's rights thing and blaming men. It was just it was
[38:24] just I just thought, all right, you're gonna blame men were I'm just
[38:27] going to draw a massive He later appealed his conviction and accused his lawyer of
[38:31] being incompetent. His former lawyer responded it said that his former client was simply
[38:38] crying for attention. In October, James Todd appeared in court via video link,
[38:52] where he was informed that he had been served with three extra charges on
[38:54] top of the rip and murder charges. He was further charged with two kinds
[39:00] of intentionally touching Eureticy in a sexual manner and one kind of attempted rape.
[39:07] He returned to court the next month, where he surprisingly pleaded guilty to one
[39:12] single count of rape, murder, attempted rape and sexual assault. The other
[39:17] charge was withdrawn. The details of the case were read aloud in court on
[39:24] the twelfth of June two thousand and eighteen. Taught Ad finished training at the
[39:28] academy at about three p m. He and three of his friends then caught
[39:32] a train into Melbourne. After they arrived in the city, they walked to
[39:38] Batman Park, where they drank a bottle of vodka, a bottle of cider
[39:44] and smoked a small amount of marijuana. At about eight thirty p m,
[39:47] they made their way to Southern Cross Railway station. Todd purchased a bottle of
[39:53] Jim Beam whiskey and cola and caught a broad Meadows Bond train with one of
[39:58] his friends. He left the train at Newmarket and then returned alone by train
[40:04] to Flinders Street Railway station, arriving at ten twenty five p m. It
[40:10] was at this time that Eureedithe and Tony walked east from Highlander Lane on Flinders
[40:15] Street towards the Flinders Street railway station. They walked to the corner of Swanston
[40:22] and Flinders Street, crossed the road and then waited for Tony's south Point tram.
[40:28] At eleven o five p m. Tony caught the tram heading towards seen
[40:30] Kilda Road. At this moment, Tod caught sight of Euretissee. He hung
[40:38] around by a construction area as she walked past him, heading towards the pedestrian
[40:44] crossing at the intersection of Flinders Street and Swanston Street. He immediately began to
[40:51] follow her. Eureedyssee approached Flinders Lane and as she did, Tod overtook her
[40:57] and sat down on a stock of milk crates. He waited for your Edissy
[41:00] to pass him, and after she walked some distance ahead of him, he
[41:05] continued following her. At one point Tod was two minutes behind her, but
[41:10] he closed in as she walked across the soccer pitch his Imprince's Park. Once
[41:16] she reached the third soccer pitch, he attacked her. Your Odyssy was knocked
[41:22] to the ground and quickly subdued. Todd then sat down on her chest,
[41:28] ripped open her dress and pulled down her pra He then tore her underwear in
[41:32] half and raped her by roughly forcing two fingers into her vagina, causing tears.
[41:39] Todd then attempted to rape her by inserting his penis into her vagina,
[41:44] but he was unable to maintain an erection. In an effort to try and
[41:50] stimulate himself, he slapped his penis on the outside of her mouth. This
[41:54] was the basis of the other charges against him. While Todd was doing this,
[42:00] he had one hand around Euretisic's throat, and at some stage he placed
[42:05] both of his hands around her throat and began to strangle her. Before Todd
[42:09] fled from the scene, he stole Euretic's mobile phone. He left Prince's Park
[42:15] and headed to the Royal Park railway station, arriving at two fourteen am.
[42:22] He then fell asleep and woke up at four A m CCTV footage from the
[42:27] railway station then showed him scrolling through euretises mobile phone. He then left the
[42:34] railway station and headed over to Prince's Park, but by the time he arrived
[42:38] it was already cordoned off with crime scene tape. Todd then traveled by foot
[42:44] and tram to Boundary Road, where he purchased a pie and a coffee.
[42:49] Sometime after six fifteen a m. When he arrived back home, he began
[42:54] watching grape fantasy porn, including strangulation. It was as if he was reliving
[43:01] what he had just gone six hours earlier. Todd returned to Chord on the
[43:10] sixteenth of August, where the court heard testimony from psychologist David Thomas. He
[43:19] said that Todd had developed an obsession with violent, coercive sex and choking,
[43:24] and had watched violent porn before and after his attack on eur edysity. He
[43:30] said that he diagnosed Todd with sexual sadism disorder and that this had motivated his
[43:36] attack. Sexual saidism is a rare disorder that has found almost exclusively in violent
[43:44] sexual offenders. Podd had experimented once with rough sex with a former girlfriend,
[43:51] but she didn't like it, so we never tried it again. Doctor Thomas
[43:55] believed that Todd remained a significant risk of reoffending because of his disorder. The
[44:01] doctor had assessed Tod and he revealed that Todd had told him that as soon
[44:06] as he entered the park after Your Editssy. He knew he was going to
[44:09] try and rape her. When he first saw on this strait, he was
[44:14] attracted by what he described as her goth look. She looked similar to the
[44:21] women in the type of pornography he had been searching for. Doctor Thomas further
[44:27] said he believed that Todd was remorseful for what he had done, but said
[44:30] that his autism had made this remorse an intellectual feeling of remorse rather than an
[44:35] emotional one. Psychologist's professor James Augloff had also assessed Hodd, and he told
[44:42] the cord that when Your Edssy began panicking, it aroused Tod Moore. He
[44:47] also revealed that Todd had confessed to his father after he was arrested, but
[44:52] he had chillingly told him that he felt like shit and hoped he'd be better
[44:57] next time. He meant that the rape and murder of Your Editsy had failed
[45:01] to fulfill his expectations. Professor Oglow testified he said it didn't turn out how
[45:09] he planned. Much like doctor Thomas, Professor Oglov wasn't confident that Todd could
[45:15] be rehabilitated, and said that he really didn't have any feelings about the murder.
[45:22] He further said that he wanted to make it clear that the vast majority
[45:24] of people on the autism spectrum don't display violence. The biggest contributing factor to
[45:32] his actions, the professor said, was his sexual sadism disorder. He had
[45:38] begun watching pornography at the age of thirteen, and in the year leading up
[45:43] to eu Oediss's murder, it had become increasingly violent. After the psychologists testified,
[45:50] Euretss's family were given the opportunity to provide victim impact statements. Her sister,
[45:57] Polly Cotton, said, my sister's murder has absolutely shuddered and devastated our
[46:02] family. I will never see my little sister again. She lived an honorable
[46:07] life. She was gutsy and determined and clever, and when I think of
[46:13] her, I feel proud. Your Edissy's boyfriend, Tony said he still suffered
[46:17] from nightmares about what had happened. He would wake up in the middle of
[46:22] the night to the sound of her screaming. He then added, there's no
[46:28] doubt in my mind that I will never look at the human race the same
[46:31] way again. Todd's defense attorney was requesting leniency for his client. He testified
[46:39] about Todd's upbringing and highlighted that he had lived in squalor in a vermin infested
[46:45] home. The judge, Justin Stephen Kay then said that Todd's crimes were beyond
[46:52] belief and utterly despicable. He stated, murder for pleasure. It's hard to
[46:59] think of any moods worse than that. He said that it was completely unacceptable
[47:04] that a young woman minding her business could not cross through a park without being
[47:08] rapped and murdered. He said to the court, and the court has a
[47:14] rule both in terms of deniesing the of founding in that way, but by
[47:17] the sentence imposed on your client and any other like minded individual, deterring others
[47:23] from behaving in the same manner. The judge then addressed Todd, telling him
[47:30] she was vulnerable and in the circumstances defenseless in a most callous and cowardly manner
[47:36] is set upon her. The sheer terror which you ridicy must have experienced during
[47:40] those dreadful moments is unimaginable. Defending by you was totally and categorically evil.
[47:47] Your conduct and your intentions of motivation struck at the very heart are the most
[47:54] basic values of a decent, civilized society. The judge said that Todd's loss
[48:00] facts of rehabilitation were limited, the likelihood of his sexualcidism disorder being addressed was
[48:06] per He then sentenced James Toll to life in prison with the minimum term of
[48:12] thirty five years before he would be eligible for perule. Outside of court,
[48:16] Eurydice's father, Jeremy, spoke publicly for the very first time. I am
[48:22] very glad there's a killer off the streets. What I'd wish for James Todd,
[48:27] and what I believe Eurydicy would wish, is that he gets better and
[48:30] realizes what he's done. Eurydicy herself should be remembered as her friends will remember
[48:37] her for her wit and her courage and for her kindness, not not for
[48:43] her death. Well, Bestie's that is it for this episode of Morbidology.
