Around 3 a.m., four workers on Vancouver Island’s West Coast Trail woke to something pounding against their remote cabin. They were too frightened to turn on a light. Their inspection the next morning left them with another mystery. In Bigfoot Society Episode 1210, Jeremiah Byron hears firsthand accounts from people describing unexplained encounters across North America. A West Virginia witness recalls opening his bedroom curtain as a child and finding a figure roughly three feet away. An Alabama deer hunter describes a missing gut pile, a snapping branch behind him, and a massive gray creature moving through Bankhead Forest. From heavy footsteps outside a Utah tent to strange activity on a secluded Oregon ranch, these witnesses share the details that have stayed with them for years. What did those four workers hear outside their cabin? Listen to their account and what they discovered in daylight. [0:47] Speaker 2: All right.
[0:47] Speaker 1: So what have you experienced?
[0:52] Speaker 3: It was in, let me see, 07.
[0:56] Speaker 4: I was in the Uinta Mountains in Utah with my sister.
[1:03] Speaker 3: And we were staying in a cabin.
[1:09] Speaker 4: It was like a Porus Ranger cabin that is no
[1:12] Speaker 4: longer in operation, but they use it to like rent
[1:15] Speaker 4: it out for like camping and stuff. So we were
[1:20] Speaker 4: staying there and we kind of went to bed kind
[1:25] Speaker 4: of early. We were actually, me and her were pitching
[1:27] Speaker 4: a tent outside the cabin and her husband and one
[1:32] Speaker 4: of the kids was inside the cabin, but we're sisters.
[1:35] Speaker 4: So I, we wanted to do sister bonding time. Um,
[1:39] Speaker 4: there were some cows, those on the hill. There's a
[1:43] Speaker 4: lot of cows. It's like cattle country, like grazing. Very
[1:48] Speaker 4: off the beaten path, about five miles off the main
[1:56] Speaker 4: road onto.
[1:58] Speaker 3: Like a forest road.
[2:00] Speaker 4: So very much set back and there was like hills
[2:03] Speaker 4: and mountains around us.
[2:06] Speaker 3: And it wasn't until like.
[2:09] Speaker 4: That night, the first two nights we slept in the tent,
[2:12] Speaker 4: you know, we were just there for a couple of days.
[2:15] Speaker 4: First night, the cows kind of died. They were kind
[2:20] Speaker 4: of loud. It was kind of hard to sleep. And
[2:22] Speaker 4: then around maybe 10, they kind of started to die down.
[2:26] Speaker 3: You could hear coyotes.
[2:29] Speaker 4: But then a little while later, it got really quiet,
[2:33] Speaker 4: like dead silent quiet. And we heard something very, very large.
[2:41] Speaker 4: I thought maybe a bear. But it was really, really loud.
[2:50] Speaker 4: Like it was coming through the brush and it was
[2:55] Speaker 4: almost shaking the ground. And it sounded to me like,
[3:00] Speaker 4: and we were both awake, that it was on two feet.
[3:07] Speaker 4: And then in the morning, after that, we kind of stopped.
[3:11] Speaker 4: we kind of like shine the flashlight and tried to
[3:14] Speaker 4: look around and, you know, it went away. And then
[3:18] Speaker 4: we finally, you know, went to bed. And then the
[3:20] Speaker 4: morning it was like probably about seven 30 in the
[3:23] Speaker 4: morning and she was still sleeping, but I was reading
[3:27] Speaker 4: a book in the tent. So I was awake and
[3:31] Speaker 4: I heard two loud whoops, like whoop, whoop.
[3:37] Speaker 3: And then I'll pause and And another whoop, whoop.
[3:44] Speaker 4: And then I looked to her and she, I'm like,
[3:46] Speaker 4: and then she kind of woke up at the last part.
[3:49] Speaker 4: And I'm like, I didn't really, like, I always kind
[3:52] Speaker 4: of believed in Bigfoot, but I didn't know they made
[3:55] Speaker 4: those sounds. So I was looking at her and I'm like, what,
[3:59] Speaker 4: what bird makes that sound? And she's like, I don't know. And,
[4:04] Speaker 4: and it wasn't until I got back from our trip
[4:08] Speaker 4: and did some research online and, heard the Sierra sounds, um,
[4:14] Speaker 4: recording from California that it sounded exactly like the whoops
[4:20] Speaker 4: that were in that recording. So I could have potentially
[4:25] Speaker 4: had a Bigfoot, you know, very close. It sounded very close. Um,
[4:31] Speaker 4: but I, you know, didn't look, look outside the tent
[4:35] Speaker 4: and the morning, I didn't think the whoops were correlated
[4:38] Speaker 4: with anything.
[4:42] Speaker 1: When you got outside the next morning, when it was
[4:46] Speaker 1: light out, did you see any signs of things being
[4:51] Speaker 1: messed with around the camp or any tracks or anything
[4:54] Speaker 1: like that?
[4:56] Speaker 4: No, because I really wasn't thinking it was a Bigfoot
[5:00] Speaker 4: at all.
[5:01] Speaker 3: I thought it was a bird. So I wasn't looking
[5:04] Speaker 3: for anything.
[5:05] Speaker 4: You know, we talked about the noises and stuff and
[5:08] Speaker 4: I'm like, that was kind of, that was really loud.
[5:10] Speaker 4: And the night before we're like, that was really loud.
[5:12] Speaker 4: And it sounded like, you know, and I said, that
[5:17] Speaker 4: didn't sound like just like a deer or anything.
[5:20] Speaker 3: I'm like, maybe it was a bear.
[5:22] Speaker 4: And, but it was really crashing through kind of like,
[5:26] Speaker 4: it sounded like crashing through the brush. Like it sounded bipedal,
[5:32] Speaker 4: but the whoops, I didn't correlate that together. So I
[5:35] Speaker 4: wasn't looking around for like any sign of anything. There
[5:38] Speaker 4: was nothing really messed up on the, like we had
[5:40] Speaker 4: this fire pit in our camp chairs and, and all
[5:44] Speaker 4: that wasn't really disturbed. But there was like a little
[5:48] Speaker 4: walkway that went over, um, like a bridge that goes
[5:51] Speaker 4: over a stream. Um, that's a good, probably 50 feet
[5:56] Speaker 4: on the other side of the stream that it might've
[5:58] Speaker 4: been coming from there, you know, from that area, it
[6:01] Speaker 4: was very close.
[6:03] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[6:04] Speaker 1: Are you able to share what part of the Uinta
[6:07] Speaker 1: mountains it was in specifically?
[6:11] Speaker 4: Yeah, it was, I put it on the BFRO website
[6:14] Speaker 4: as an encounter.
[6:15] Speaker 3: It was north of Vernal, Utah.
[6:22] Speaker 4: So coming up, I forget what my actual, you know,
[6:26] Speaker 4: the coordinates was.
[6:27] Speaker 3: It was, it's all on the report.
[6:29] Speaker 4: But it was, there's a major road that comes up
[6:34] Speaker 4: from Vernal, Utah. And that's, you know, the one we took.
[6:39] Speaker 4: And then we took a forest road off of that
[6:42] Speaker 4: to get to the cabin. And it's like a forest
[6:44] Speaker 4: ranger cabin that they rent out, you know. It was
[6:47] Speaker 4: just a really windy road and, you know, people camping
[6:51] Speaker 4: on the, you know, as you start to go and
[6:52] Speaker 4: then it forks off to the left. And that was
[6:56] Speaker 4: the only, when you're going down to the left, that's
[6:59] Speaker 4: like the only like ranger station. We did see a
[7:04] Speaker 4: cowboy go by on a horse, and he was probably
[7:06] Speaker 4: part of the ranch people. But other than that, we
[7:10] Speaker 4: were the only people out on that cabin.
[7:12] Speaker 5: Hmm.
[7:15] Speaker 1: Do you know if... Did you ever look to see
[7:18] Speaker 1: if there'd been any other encounters reported in the same area?
[7:22] Speaker 3: Yes, there have been.
[7:24] Speaker 1: In.
[7:29] Speaker 4: I think there's two others on the website, on the
[7:32] Speaker 4: BFRO website anyway, of a similar area.
[7:39] Speaker 3: Coming up from Vernal in Uintas.
[7:42] Speaker 4: And there's another one that's a little bit more northwest
[7:48] Speaker 4: of my location, but not that far, maybe 30 minutes,
[7:54] Speaker 4: you know. not like not like an hour North or anything.
[7:58] Speaker 4: It's like 30 minutes maybe when I looked at the map.
[8:04] Speaker 1: Very interesting. Thank you for, for sharing that. Uh, have
[8:08] Speaker 1: you ever gone out to that area again or was
[8:11] Speaker 1: that a one-time deal?
[8:12] Speaker 4: Um, it was a one-time deal, but I think I
[8:15] Speaker 4: probably want to go back there and, you know, explore
[8:20] Speaker 4: it in a different mindset and, and, uh, See what
[8:25] Speaker 4: I see, if I can pick up anything or see anything,
[8:28] Speaker 4: you know, be more aware of, you know, I really
[8:31] Speaker 4: didn't even correlate those whoops. So he was extremely close.
[8:36] Speaker 4: The morning there were no, I woke up and I
[8:40] Speaker 4: was like, there was no noises. There was no birds chirping.
[8:43] Speaker 4: There was no normal noises that you would hear normally
[8:46] Speaker 4: when you are waking up in outside in the summertime.
[8:52] Speaker 3: It was during the summer.
[8:53] Speaker 4: It was in July, you know, and it was dead
[8:57] Speaker 4: silent when I heard those whoops, which was the other
[8:59] Speaker 4: odd thing.
[9:04] Speaker 1: Nurse, thank you for sharing. It's definitely an interesting anecdote
[9:09] Speaker 1: about a weird, a weird experience in that area. So
[9:14] Speaker 1: definitely an area to keep in mind. And thank you
[9:16] Speaker 1: for coming up tonight.
[9:17] Speaker 6: All right.
[9:17] Speaker 3: Thank you.
[9:18] Speaker 1: Have a good night.
[9:20] Speaker 3: Yeah, you too.
[9:24] Speaker 1: All right. That's the first person to share and sharing
[9:29] Speaker 1: some interesting things that happened in the Uinta Mountains of Utah. Hey, Brian,
[9:35] Speaker 1: this is Jeremiah.
[9:37] Speaker 6: Awesome.
[9:38] Speaker 1: It sounds like you've had an interesting thing happen in
[9:41] Speaker 1: West Virginia. Would you be able to share that?
[9:45] Speaker 5: Yeah. It was a brief encounter. It was 1987. I
[9:49] Speaker 5: was just a kid then. Of course, I'm 49 now.
[9:54] Speaker 5: We didn't have air conditions.
[10:01] Speaker 7: Back then, and we slept with the windows open so
[10:05] Speaker 7: we could get the night breeze. And I was asleep,
[10:10] Speaker 7: and something.
[10:12] Speaker 5: Woke me up.
[10:14] Speaker 7: The sound outside the window. My bed is right underneath
[10:17] Speaker 7: the window. I had the curtains closed, but I could
[10:20] Speaker 7: feel that cool breeze coming through the curtain and blowing
[10:23] Speaker 7: down on me. But the sound that woke me was
[10:26] Speaker 7: that sound of heavy breathing, like if you're like a
[10:32] Speaker 7: dog sniffing in a doorway or something like that, you
[10:36] Speaker 7: could hear the wind.
[10:38] Speaker 5: And I pulled.
[10:40] Speaker 7: The curtain, well, Where I grew up at, we had
[10:45] Speaker 7: an outside light shining onto our driveway, and my bedroom
[10:50] Speaker 7: window faced the driveway, and I first seen a silhouette
[10:56] Speaker 7: when I opened the curtain, and I was still half asleep,
[11:00] Speaker 7: and I didn't realize what I'm looking at. Then it grunted,
[11:04] Speaker 7: and then my eyes focused a little better, and I
[11:08] Speaker 7: was staring face-to-face within, I don't know, three.
[11:14] Speaker 5: Feet of it face to face. I got scared.
[11:21] Speaker 7: I rushed up, slammed the window shut, and pulled the
[11:24] Speaker 7: curtain back to, I laid back down on my bed,
[11:27] Speaker 7: pulled the covers back up.
[11:28] Speaker 5: Over my head, and I was just laying there scared
[11:32] Speaker 5: to death.
[11:34] Speaker 7: Well, it moved away from the window and right next
[11:38] Speaker 7: to the, I have another window at my headboard, And
[11:43] Speaker 7: it was walking across the porch because I could hear it,
[11:47] Speaker 7: the heavy steps or landfalls on the boards of our porch.
[11:53] Speaker 7: We had no roof over it, but every time anyone
[11:56] Speaker 7: walked across it, you could hear it creak.
[11:59] Speaker 5: And it was creaking.
[12:01] Speaker 7: It actually broke the second step of our porch when
[12:06] Speaker 7: it stepped up. And it walked across all the way
[12:10] Speaker 7: to the length of our porch. It came off because
[12:14] Speaker 7: I was looking out the window, and when I watched
[12:16] Speaker 7: it from its backside, and.
[12:20] Speaker 5: When it stepped off.
[12:22] Speaker 7: The other side, it didn't even look like it jumped
[12:23] Speaker 7: or anything. It just kind of, you know, just kind
[12:28] Speaker 7: of jumped. The porch was only four foot off the ground,
[12:32] Speaker 7: so it stepped off with ease. And then it just
[12:38] Speaker 7: went on out of sight, and.
[12:41] Speaker 7: That whole encounter probably lasted, I don't know, maybe five minutes.
[12:49] Speaker 5: And then I was scared to death.
[12:51] Speaker 7: I ran through the house, woke my parents up to
[12:57] Speaker 7: tell them about it.
[12:58] Speaker 5: They just told me I was just having a bad dream.
[13:02] Speaker 5: Go back to bed. It'll be all right. And that
[13:07] Speaker 5: was my brief encounter.
[13:10] Speaker 1: Brian, that is a wild one. Did you ever look
[13:14] Speaker 1: to see if there'd been any other sightings in the
[13:17] Speaker 1: same area?
[13:19] Speaker 7: Never did because I was just a kid at the time,
[13:23] Speaker 7: but not until I got older.
[13:25] Speaker 5: Then I started looking into sightings around the area. There's been.
[13:33] Speaker 7: I have moved from where I grew up at, probably
[13:36] Speaker 7: about 30 miles away. There's been a sighting where I
[13:40] Speaker 7: live now, but I haven't seen one since I was
[13:43] Speaker 7: a kid. And there was four other sightings where I
[13:49] Speaker 7: used to live because I used.
[13:51] Speaker 5: To go coon hunting a lot.
[13:53] Speaker 7: And some of my friends that I used to go
[13:56] Speaker 7: hunting with, I didn't always get to go with them,
[13:58] Speaker 7: but they have... clean spot in and around the area
[14:03] Speaker 7: I used.
[14:04] Speaker 5: To live in.
[14:09] Speaker 1: It's very interesting. Are you able to share what county
[14:12] Speaker 1: that happened in?
[14:14] Speaker 7: Yeah, that was in Ona, West Virginia, Cabell County.
[14:20] Speaker 6: Wow.
[14:22] Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing, Brian. That was a pretty intense
[14:26] Speaker 1: one and gives me a new area to be aware of.
[14:29] Speaker 2: Thank you.
[14:31] Speaker 6: You're welcome.
[14:32] Speaker 1: Hello, Frank. I'm going to. I've noticed you've tried to
[14:38] Speaker 1: come up a few times. So I'm going to request
[14:42] Speaker 1: you here.
[14:42] Speaker 6: Hi, Jeremiah.
[14:45] Speaker 1: Hey, hello, Frank. Would you would you mind sharing what
[14:48] Speaker 1: you've experienced?
[14:49] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[14:50] Speaker 6: Yeah. If you can hear me, I'll share it.
[14:54] Speaker 1: All right.
[14:55] Speaker 6: So I was a deer hunter, you know, all my life.
[15:01] Speaker 6: Come up in Alabama, and of course, you know, that's
[15:03] Speaker 6: what we do down there. I know you have a
[15:06] Speaker 6: lot of hunters on your podcast because, you know, we're
[15:10] Speaker 6: always in the woods and seem to have a lot
[15:13] Speaker 6: of encounters, you know. But I was hunting in Bankhead Forest. Hey, gatekeeper. Hello, darling.
[15:23] Speaker 6: I was hunting in Bankhead Forest, and I was on
[15:27] Speaker 6: a three-day management hunt. actually there and uh so you
[15:34] Speaker 6: know first day you the morning of the hunt it
[15:39] Speaker 6: was a it was a friday saturday and sunday hunt
[15:42] Speaker 6: so i went to you got to go to the
[15:45] Speaker 6: gang wardens you know station to get your your permit
[15:49] Speaker 6: you got your hunting license but you got to get
[15:51] Speaker 6: your permit for this mansion hunt and better have your
[15:55] Speaker 6: permit or because they'll sure bust you but anyway So, yeah,
[16:00] Speaker 6: I went that morning, Friday morning. Got up real early.
[16:04] Speaker 6: I was excited about the hunt, you know. Three-day hunt.
[16:07] Speaker 6: Had the weekend off. Drywall contractor. I've been working hard,
[16:10] Speaker 6: so I was really looking forward to it. But anyway,
[16:15] Speaker 6: so I get my permit and, you know, go. And
[16:21] Speaker 6: I get in my thing and, you know, get there
[16:25] Speaker 6: pretty early. because I was at the game warden station
[16:28] Speaker 6: at 3 a.m., you know, like everybody early getting in hunting,
[16:32] Speaker 6: and they go in the woods, and get in the woods,
[16:35] Speaker 6: and when you have a big hunt like this, you know,
[16:38] Speaker 6: guys moving in and out of the woods can jump
[16:41] Speaker 6: deer and run them to you, so anyway, I got
[16:44] Speaker 6: into my spot, and I was on a green field
[16:47] Speaker 6: that I'd been hunting for about 10 years, and I,
[16:50] Speaker 6: you know, nobody else on this green field, usually but me,
[16:54] Speaker 6: and of course it was that way, this this time,
[16:58] Speaker 6: but I got in there real early and had two doe,
[17:05] Speaker 6: and I always say they ain't brother and sister, I
[17:07] Speaker 6: say that because, you know, usually you see two, they're twins,
[17:10] Speaker 6: but they were, one of them was older than the
[17:12] Speaker 6: other one, but anyway, these two doe come down in
[17:16] Speaker 6: front of me and, you know, went on past me
[17:19] Speaker 6: and I, you know, of course, Didn't shoot them. It
[17:23] Speaker 6: was a buck and a doe. You could take a
[17:25] Speaker 6: buck or a doe, either one, but, you know, little deer,
[17:27] Speaker 6: I wasn't going to, you know, shoot them or anything.
[17:29] Speaker 6: I just let them go. But nothing else come by
[17:35] Speaker 6: that morning, which, you know, that's kind of strange because
[17:39] Speaker 6: I've been on a bunch of these hunts and they,
[17:42] Speaker 6: you know, just usually have a lot of movement, you know.
[17:48] Speaker 6: But anyway, so I... I sat there about lunch, and
[17:53] Speaker 6: I went home. Back at lunch, I don't live far
[17:57] Speaker 6: from back here, so I just went back to the house.
[18:02] Speaker 6: I grabbed a sandwich or something, a couple bottles of water,
[18:06] Speaker 6: and went back for the evening hunt. I went back
[18:10] Speaker 6: to the evening hunt, and these two does that I
[18:17] Speaker 6: had seen that morning come They were just running back
[18:22] Speaker 6: at me. And I knew it was them because they'd
[18:25] Speaker 6: pass in that morning. But they just, at 2 o'clock,
[18:29] Speaker 6: they used to come back to bed, you know, in
[18:31] Speaker 6: the evening about 4 o'clock. I mean, just like clockwork,
[18:34] Speaker 6: they would feed down through the holler, go get water
[18:37] Speaker 6: and whatever and come back in the evening. Anyway, about
[18:40] Speaker 6: 2 o'clock, real out of character, these two deer come
[18:44] Speaker 6: running at me on my side of the ridge. And
[18:48] Speaker 6: they were running like, predators chasing them, you know, which,
[18:52] Speaker 6: you know, we got, we got coyotes and we got bobcats.
[18:56] Speaker 6: We don't have bears. We don't have wolves, you know,
[18:59] Speaker 6: nothing like that. But anyway, just the way they acting,
[19:02] Speaker 6: but they, they got to my, where I was at
[19:06] Speaker 6: and they stopped right in front of me. Just, just weird. They,
[19:12] Speaker 6: they looking at me and they'd look back and they,
[19:16] Speaker 6: they'd not, go down to the ground like I'd sniff
[19:19] Speaker 6: in the ground or something and they'd look at me
[19:21] Speaker 6: and they'd look back and they stayed there for just
[19:24] Speaker 6: a minute or two. It was really, really strange. But,
[19:29] Speaker 6: you know, animals are strange, but I thought a buck
[19:32] Speaker 6: was chasing them. You know, or something because I don't know.
[19:39] Speaker 6: But they looked like a predator was chasing them, real spooky.
[19:42] Speaker 6: And they stayed there just a second and they looked
[19:44] Speaker 6: back time or two and then they took off trotting
[19:47] Speaker 6: and then they busted into a run and they you
[19:51] Speaker 6: know run on run up there and back to their
[19:53] Speaker 6: bed in there and I you know weird but animals
[19:58] Speaker 6: are weird you know so I didn't see anything else
[20:01] Speaker 6: that day so I went back to the house and
[20:05] Speaker 6: got up next morning going to do it again so
[20:07] Speaker 6: I already got my permit and everything so I I
[20:11] Speaker 6: go back to my spot where I'm at, and I
[20:15] Speaker 6: get in there pretty early. Sure enough, about 8 o'clock,
[20:19] Speaker 6: here comes Big Dope by herself. You know, she didn't
[20:23] Speaker 6: have no little ones with her or nothing, so I'm
[20:25] Speaker 6: fixing to put some meat in the freezer. So I
[20:28] Speaker 6: got a 30-30. I've been using it all my life,
[20:30] Speaker 6: and I, you know, of course, you know, one shot, and,
[20:34] Speaker 6: you know, I didn't want to shoot her in the
[20:37] Speaker 6: vitals because I didn't want to really mess her up.
[20:40] Speaker 6: So I knew I'd, you know, fix and clean her
[20:42] Speaker 6: and take care of her right there. So, you know,
[20:44] Speaker 6: just one shot to the head and she, she's, you know,
[20:49] Speaker 6: dispatched her really, really clean, really quick. And I, you know,
[20:53] Speaker 6: now the work's on. So I, I got down there
[20:57] Speaker 6: and I, and I had a little creek, you know,
[20:59] Speaker 6: I was lucky. I had a little creek running down
[21:01] Speaker 6: through the middle of the hollow. And I, so I,
[21:05] Speaker 6: I started cleaning her up. And you know what I mean,
[21:08] Speaker 6: I tried to make it as clean as I can
[21:12] Speaker 6: so I didn't mess her up on the inside. And
[21:15] Speaker 6: I just unzipped her and whatever and reached up in
[21:19] Speaker 6: there and cut her windpipe, reached back here and cut
[21:22] Speaker 6: her anal tube. And just everything come out at one time.
[21:26] Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. It was a whole pile of
[21:30] Speaker 6: gut piles right there. Really clean. I forgot a buddy
[21:35] Speaker 6: of mine was supposed to meet me down there, you know,
[21:37] Speaker 6: he was hunting one ridge over, and he didn't make it,
[21:40] Speaker 6: and I didn't bring a cart, so now I got
[21:42] Speaker 6: a carrier out of there. I didn't bring nothing with me,
[21:45] Speaker 6: so I threw her over my shoulder, and I, you know,
[21:49] Speaker 6: carried her up to the green field up this real
[21:52] Speaker 6: steep hill because I was sitting down on the other
[21:55] Speaker 6: side of the hollow looking back at this green field.
[21:58] Speaker 6: But I got in the green field, and I kind
[22:00] Speaker 6: of roped her. Anyway, I bet I got her to
[22:02] Speaker 6: the truck. And I went and I took her by
[22:08] Speaker 6: the processor right there around the house, you know, and
[22:11] Speaker 6: dropped her off. And so I've harvested a doe and now,
[22:15] Speaker 6: you know, I've got a chance to harvest a buck.
[22:19] Speaker 6: So I did about the same thing. I dropped her
[22:21] Speaker 6: off at the processor and I went to my house
[22:23] Speaker 6: and got some lunch, you know, again. And I just
[22:28] Speaker 6: don't really hunt in the middle of the daytime, you know,
[22:30] Speaker 6: unless the rut's really on. I mean, it's just good
[22:31] Speaker 6: in the morning and the evening. There's nothing really moving
[22:33] Speaker 6: in the daytime, but The big bucks don't anyway, unless
[22:36] Speaker 6: the rut's on. So, anyway, I got, I went back
[22:41] Speaker 6: to my spot to hunt the evening hunt. And, you know,
[22:47] Speaker 6: this gut pile, the gut pile's gone. You know, the
[22:51] Speaker 6: whole gut pile's gone. I was like, man, am I
[22:55] Speaker 6: in the right place? I mean, I've hunted down there forever.
[22:59] Speaker 6: You know, I just questioned myself. I looked down there
[23:02] Speaker 6: and You know, it's little blood on the leaves and stuff.
[23:06] Speaker 6: And I knew I was in the right spot. And
[23:09] Speaker 6: I seen where, you know, it is like a, you know,
[23:17] Speaker 6: where the gut pile was laid. You could almost see,
[23:20] Speaker 6: because I mean, I know where I left it. It's
[23:23] Speaker 6: right there, you know, where I've been for so many times.
[23:27] Speaker 6: And there was little blood on the leaves. And it,
[23:30] Speaker 6: you know, Down in there, I'm the only one there.
[23:35] Speaker 6: And looking up beside that creek, you know, thinking back,
[23:40] Speaker 6: looking upside that creek, I can't say I've seen footprints,
[23:44] Speaker 6: but I've seen depressions. It looked like where the leaves
[23:49] Speaker 6: were mashed down. Like something had picked it up and
[23:54] Speaker 6: just walked off with. You know, and I just, I
[24:01] Speaker 6: thought to myself, I thought, wow, man, what a pack
[24:05] Speaker 6: of coyotes come down here and ate that gut pile up.
[24:08] Speaker 6: This little time I was gone, me sitting on the ground,
[24:11] Speaker 6: you know. I mean, it made me nervous. I mean,
[24:13] Speaker 6: that's what I thought at the time. That's the only
[24:16] Speaker 6: thing I could think of. But, you know, I should
[24:18] Speaker 6: have known it wasn't a pack of coyotes. They get
[24:21] Speaker 6: a hold of something. They ravish it. They mess the
[24:23] Speaker 6: leaves up. They just, you know. But at the time,
[24:28] Speaker 6: that's what I could come up with. So I went
[24:32] Speaker 6: ahead and hunted on that evening, and nothing moving at all.
[24:39] Speaker 6: So well, we get on a Sunday. So Sunday, I,
[24:45] Speaker 6: of course, went back to my place again, just like
[24:49] Speaker 6: I always do. It's a great place. I've hunted there
[24:52] Speaker 6: a lot and harvested a bunch of deer there. And
[24:55] Speaker 6: I'm sitting there, and I sat there about 10 o'clock.
[25:01] Speaker 6: I done said all I ever wanted to say. I mean,
[25:03] Speaker 6: I done, you know, I done hunted hard, you know,
[25:05] Speaker 6: had that doe the day before. When I carried her,
[25:12] Speaker 6: you know, when I harvested that doe, when I carried
[25:14] Speaker 6: her up the hill, I had to throw her over
[25:17] Speaker 6: my shoulder and I had on my hunter's orange. And
[25:20] Speaker 6: my hunter's orange had, you know, blood on it, you know.
[25:25] Speaker 6: And I say that because I think that comes into
[25:28] Speaker 6: play here Just a minute while I'm going to tell
[25:30] Speaker 6: you what happened. But anyway, I said all I was
[25:35] Speaker 6: going to say. So I got up, and a buddy
[25:39] Speaker 6: of mine told me about these waterfalls at the end
[25:41] Speaker 6: of this green field. And I had never been all
[25:44] Speaker 6: the way to the end of this green field, although
[25:46] Speaker 6: I've hunted here, I just never went all the way
[25:49] Speaker 6: to the end of it. And in the management area,
[25:52] Speaker 6: they plant it, and it zigzagged like a zig all
[25:55] Speaker 6: the way down through there. It was about three-quarters of
[25:58] Speaker 6: a mile long, I guess. And they planted in zigzags
[26:02] Speaker 6: so it would accommodate more hunters. But you can go
[26:05] Speaker 6: down through the green field and come around the corner
[26:07] Speaker 6: and there might be a deer feeding right out in
[26:09] Speaker 6: the green field. So, you know, I was bored and
[26:14] Speaker 6: I was tired of sitting, so I was just going
[26:15] Speaker 6: to walk down here and look at these waterfalls. And
[26:19] Speaker 6: I did. And I went down there and sure enough,
[26:25] Speaker 6: these banquets full of waterfalls Beautiful waterfalls. It's, you know,
[26:30] Speaker 6: it's the foothills of Appalachian Mountains. And, I mean, that's
[26:33] Speaker 6: what it's known for is the waterfalls. And this one
[26:36] Speaker 6: was wild. And out in the middle, when I got
[26:41] Speaker 6: down here to the end, it was across the hollow.
[26:44] Speaker 6: Big waterfall coming off really pretty. Had one trickling down
[26:47] Speaker 6: beside it. And it was probably, you know, 300 or
[26:52] Speaker 6: 400 yards across this big hollow by the time I
[26:55] Speaker 6: got down there. And, but anyway, so I just, you know,
[27:00] Speaker 6: I sat there the last time of the year and
[27:02] Speaker 6: I was taking in all the beauty, I was looking
[27:05] Speaker 6: at this waterfall. So I lit a cigarette and I
[27:08] Speaker 6: sat down and, you know, I was there for a
[27:12] Speaker 6: minute and then, I don't know, about five minutes. And,
[27:17] Speaker 6: you know, man, all of a sudden, behind me, a
[27:22] Speaker 6: stick snapped. I mean, you can tell how big a
[27:28] Speaker 6: limb is if you've been in the woods. I mean,
[27:30] Speaker 6: you know, I can tell you if it's a little
[27:31] Speaker 6: twig like this, or if it's a good-sized limb. But anyway,
[27:35] Speaker 6: something stepped on a limb and snapped. It scared me.
[27:42] Speaker 6: It was loud enough and close enough, it made me jump. And,
[27:46] Speaker 6: you know, I'm right-handed. It was behind me, you know,
[27:53] Speaker 6: it was behind me to my right. But anyway, I
[27:58] Speaker 6: jumped up and threw my gun up to my shoulder.
[28:03] Speaker 6: And I had to spin all the way around, you know, like,
[28:06] Speaker 6: to see what it was. Because it was behind me, like,
[28:09] Speaker 6: to my, you know, 6 o'clock, or 5 o'clock anyway.
[28:15] Speaker 6: I jumped up and turned around, and, you know, what
[28:18] Speaker 6: I seen, it was gray. It was, I thought it
[28:23] Speaker 6: might have been a white, and dirty, but I mean,
[28:26] Speaker 6: it just, it was gray. It looked ratty. I'm sorry
[28:32] Speaker 6: about this background noise there. And it looked mangy. It
[28:39] Speaker 6: looked like, you know, I don't know, I took it
[28:44] Speaker 6: as a, I took it as a male that had been,
[28:46] Speaker 6: I don't know, either looking for new territory or maybe
[28:49] Speaker 6: kicked out of the group, but it was smart enough
[28:53] Speaker 6: to know what the gun was Because when I turned
[28:56] Speaker 6: around with that gun, it took off. I never seen
[29:01] Speaker 6: it in the face. But it was facing me one time.
[29:05] Speaker 6: I think it smelled the blood on his arm. I
[29:10] Speaker 6: think it stalked up there to see if I was
[29:12] Speaker 6: a wounded deer or something. Because by the time I
[29:16] Speaker 6: turned around, it lunged back off of that hollow. and
[29:25] Speaker 6: went down through that hollow. And I went running, I
[29:29] Speaker 6: didn't know what it was. I went running up there,
[29:31] Speaker 6: you know, I wasn't thinking big fluke, I was a
[29:33] Speaker 6: Sasquatch at the time. I went running up there with
[29:35] Speaker 6: my rifle and looking through my scope, trying to see it.
[29:39] Speaker 6: Not shoot it, really. Just see what it was. You
[29:44] Speaker 6: could see it going. I watched it run down my
[29:49] Speaker 6: side of the hollow and across that big hollow. It
[29:54] Speaker 6: was bobbing through trees up and down through there. It
[29:57] Speaker 6: went up beside them waterfalls. And over the hill, I mean,
[30:03] Speaker 6: it never looked bad, but, you know, it looked like
[30:09] Speaker 6: a 10-foot tall, 600-pound orangutan. It was running so weird,
[30:18] Speaker 6: so fast, but so weird, it was running like it
[30:20] Speaker 6: was sitting down in a chair. If that makes sense,
[30:24] Speaker 6: it's back legs. His back legs were pumping and, you know, running.
[30:32] Speaker 6: Just like it was sitting down. It had its arms
[30:36] Speaker 6: out in front of it. You know, just like it
[30:40] Speaker 6: was moving bushes out of the way or something. I mean,
[30:43] Speaker 6: it just.
[30:46] Speaker 6: It didn't even... I mean, it didn't look like it
[30:49] Speaker 6: was using its arms really at all. Maybe coming off
[30:53] Speaker 6: its fingers or something. But it... you know, leaves were
[30:58] Speaker 6: off the trees at the end of January. And I mean,
[31:00] Speaker 6: I watched it go around them trees, man. It went
[31:05] Speaker 6: right up beside the waterfalls and over the hill. And,
[31:09] Speaker 6: you know, it was gone just before I knew it.
[31:12] Speaker 6: You know, walking, and I just, you know, I was puzzled.
[31:20] Speaker 6: I still didn't know what it was. Man, within 20 steps,
[31:25] Speaker 6: I realized what had happened. everything started coming back to me,
[31:29] Speaker 6: you know. Them dogs running up there to me like
[31:33] Speaker 6: they did, like a predator was chasing them. The gut
[31:36] Speaker 6: pile being gone and then, you know, just walking back
[31:42] Speaker 6: to the truck. And so, I mean, just putting everything together.
[31:50] Speaker 6: But when I come out to the gate where I
[31:53] Speaker 6: come in, a game warden was there. And there's some
[31:57] Speaker 6: old guys there, too. That gate is the same gate
[32:01] Speaker 6: that the road, like they go to the power lines.
[32:04] Speaker 6: The way I went cuts off a road and goes
[32:06] Speaker 6: to my little, my green field there. And, you know,
[32:10] Speaker 6: I asked the game warden. I said, hey, man. Y'all
[32:14] Speaker 6: got a bigfoot up here, you know, in the woods?
[32:17] Speaker 6: Y'all have anything? He just, I said, I told him,
[32:21] Speaker 6: I said, man, you know, I've seen, I've seen a bigfoot.
[32:24] Speaker 6: I've seen a Sasquatch. He said, I said, he said,
[32:29] Speaker 6: I used to hunt with dogs up here. We got
[32:32] Speaker 6: a lot of feral dogs. He said, you probably just
[32:34] Speaker 6: seen a feral dog. I said, man, who you talking to?
[32:38] Speaker 6: You know, I'm a grown-ass man. I'm 55 years old.
[32:42] Speaker 6: I know the difference between a dog. I just, you know,
[32:44] Speaker 6: what I just seen was, you know, I know what
[32:47] Speaker 6: it was. So he just kind of brushed me off.
[32:50] Speaker 6: He kind of, you know, guys there that was with him,
[32:53] Speaker 6: he checking license too. I just out and said it because,
[32:57] Speaker 6: I mean, you know, in the moment. Of course, they
[33:01] Speaker 6: kind of snookered, kind of looked at me funny, you know. Because,
[33:05] Speaker 6: you know, I didn't share it with nobody for a
[33:09] Speaker 6: long time because, you know, I got that kind of look.
[33:14] Speaker 6: It ain't like it is now. Well, this is 2017. But,
[33:16] Speaker 6: you know, then I, of course, you know, Like everybody else,
[33:24] Speaker 6: once you have encountered one of these things, you kind
[33:27] Speaker 6: of start digging deep and listening to stuff. And everybody
[33:31] Speaker 6: goes to YouTube, right? And I got to listen to
[33:35] Speaker 6: Kerry on Bigfoot Odyssey. Yeah, I know. That's what I thought.
[33:40] Speaker 6: That's what I thought I'd tell him. But, man, and Kerry,
[33:43] Speaker 6: you know, I finally messaged Kerry. And, you know, he said, buddy,
[33:48] Speaker 6: he said, let me tell you, man. They said, Kerry
[33:51] Speaker 6: had a terrifying encounter, if y'all haven't ever I heard
[33:54] Speaker 6: Kerry Arnold, I mean, everybody sure has, God rest his soul, man,
[33:58] Speaker 6: I can't believe we lost him, that was devastating. And,
[34:03] Speaker 6: you know, it was just, I heard Kerry's encounter, and
[34:07] Speaker 6: he invited me on the show, and I shared it,
[34:10] Speaker 6: you know, on his show, and it was, you know,
[34:13] Speaker 6: it was really like a ton lifted off of me,
[34:15] Speaker 6: you know, from what I had experienced, you know, in
[34:20] Speaker 6: the past, you know. So, Oh, man, you've been Jeremiah.
[34:25] Speaker 6: I'm glad to come on your show. I'm glad to
[34:28] Speaker 6: talk to you.
[34:30] Speaker 1: Hey, Nightcrawler.
[34:31] Speaker 2: This is Jeremiah.
[34:32] Speaker 1: How's it going?
[34:33] Speaker 8: I haven't actually seen a Bigfoot, but when I was
[34:38] Speaker 8: in the Boy Scouts of America, this happened on the
[34:41] Speaker 8: Blue Ridge Scout Reservation up around Hiawassee, Virginia.
[34:44] Speaker 5: Okay.
[34:45] Speaker 6: I don't know if you know where that is or not, but.
[34:50] Speaker 8: I was hiking what they called High Knot, And me
[34:56] Speaker 8: and the other scouts, I was the senior leader, senior
[35:00] Speaker 8: boy leader. And we were walking up this road, and
[35:06] Speaker 8: we smelled something, kind of smelled like a wet dog.
[35:11] Speaker 6: Okay?
[35:13] Speaker 8: And that's what they say they smell like.
[35:17] Speaker 6: Okay?
[35:18] Speaker 8: Now, that night, we slept under lean tubes that night.
[35:25] Speaker 8: And I heard something down in the woods sound like
[35:29] Speaker 8: a knocking. And like they do, they're the.
[35:33] Speaker 3: Wood knocking, they call it.
[35:35] Speaker 5: Right.
[35:35] Speaker 6: I'm sure you're familiar with what I'm talking about.
[35:39] Speaker 8: And I heard that, and it kind of scared me
[35:43] Speaker 8: a little bit because I didn't really know what it
[35:44] Speaker 8: was at first. And I hollered at some of the
[35:47] Speaker 8: scout leaders there. I said, hey, that ain't y'all down
[35:50] Speaker 8: there making that racket, is it?
[35:52] Speaker 6: They said, no.
[35:53] Speaker 8: We're under the lean tube. We hear it ourselves. And
[35:58] Speaker 8: I said, well, I don't really know what it is,
[36:01] Speaker 8: but I said, I think it might be a Bigfoot.
[36:05] Speaker 8: And they said, well, we don't know if it is
[36:07] Speaker 8: or not. And I had another encounter later on and
[36:14] Speaker 8: didn't actually see anything that time, but I smelt the
[36:17] Speaker 8: odor as well.
[36:19] Speaker 6: That's all I've ever done is.
[36:20] Speaker 9: Just smelt the odor. You know, just the funny, like,
[36:25] Speaker 9: wet dog smell that they have. And it kind of
[36:29] Speaker 9: makes you want to upchuck, so to speak.
[36:31] Speaker 1: Right.
[36:32] Speaker 8: But I just thought I'd get on here and tell
[36:35] Speaker 8: you my two cents worth.
[36:37] Speaker 5: Well, very interesting.
[36:38] Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing. That gives me another area to
[36:40] Speaker 1: be aware of. So I appreciate you coming on.
[36:43] Speaker 8: Maybe you can have somebody come up here in a
[36:46] Speaker 8: few minutes. Maybe they've actually had an account.
[36:48] Speaker 6: I wish I had one, really.
[36:51] Speaker 8: But it's something I'll never forget as long as I live.
[36:54] Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
[36:56] Speaker 8: But anyway, thank you.
[36:58] Speaker 1: All right. Thanks for sharing, sir.
[36:59] Speaker 5: You have a good one.
[37:00] Speaker 1: We've got Brian has some things in Southern Oregon. We're
[37:03] Speaker 1: going to reach out to him.
[37:04] Speaker 8: Hey, man.
[37:05] Speaker 2: Hey, Brian.
[37:05] Speaker 1: This is Jeremiah. How's it going, man?
[37:07] Speaker 10: Not too bad, just hanging out.
[37:10] Speaker 1: It sounds like you have some interesting things going on
[37:13] Speaker 1: in southern Oregon.
[37:15] Speaker 10: Yeah, so my family has a ranch that we've had
[37:19] Speaker 10: in the family for like three generations. And it's in
[37:26] Speaker 10: a pretty secluded area down in the South Umpqua area.
[37:32] Speaker 2: And, uh.
[37:34] Speaker 10: As I was a kid growing up, I would walk
[37:37] Speaker 10: the property. It's a good 80 acres out in the
[37:40] Speaker 10: middle of nowhere. And there was just these things that
[37:44] Speaker 10: would happen that I couldn't explain. And I didn't think
[37:46] Speaker 10: of anything about it. Because, I mean, I'm a kid.
[37:49] Speaker 10: Weird things happen all the time. You never know what's
[37:52] Speaker 10: going on. But there was this one time I was
[37:57] Speaker 10: just sitting in our barn after feeding the cattle. And
[38:00] Speaker 10: I heard what sounded like.
[38:03] Speaker 10: It sounded like an actual lion from the zoo growling.
[38:09] Speaker 10: And you wouldn't hear that kind of stuff out there. Because,
[38:12] Speaker 10: I mean, mountain lions, they sound completely different than what
[38:16] Speaker 10: I heard. And it sounded like it was off in
[38:19] Speaker 10: the distance. But it was like really loud to where
[38:22] Speaker 10: it seemed like it was close. And it just freaked
[38:26] Speaker 10: me out. And then there was this other time I
[38:28] Speaker 10: was walking the property and... I walked past a tree
[38:33] Speaker 10: and I heard something quietly grunt at me. It made
[38:37] Speaker 10: me freeze instantly. I was like, okay, don't run. Just
[38:43] Speaker 10: walk calmly like you didn't hear anything. Eventually, I got
[38:47] Speaker 10: back home. Just maybe seven years ago, I was hanging
[38:55] Speaker 10: out at my uncle's house on the property. About two
[38:58] Speaker 10: o'clock in the morning, I heard something rustling around up
[39:02] Speaker 10: at our barn so I shined the light up there
[39:05] Speaker 10: and I didn't see anything so me and my aunt
[39:07] Speaker 10: we grabbed our pistols we walked up the lane and
[39:12] Speaker 10: was looking around trying to see if we saw anything
[39:14] Speaker 10: we have this bus that's parked outside the barn and
[39:18] Speaker 10: we were shining the lights around it we didn't see
[39:21] Speaker 10: anything in front of it or behind it or beside
[39:24] Speaker 10: it and it wasn't until we shined our flashlight up
[39:27] Speaker 10: over it we saw something quickly you just run right
[39:33] Speaker 10: past our light like between the bus and our flashlights
[39:37] Speaker 10: heading for our fence line and my aunt started shooting
[39:41] Speaker 10: at it and yeah it was it was really freaky.
[39:48] Speaker 1: You've got some really crazy stuff going on in that property.
[39:51] Speaker 10: Yeah, and it's been off and on for a long time.
[39:56] Speaker 10: There's times when I'm out and about and I feel
[39:58] Speaker 10: like I'm being watched, so I'm hesitant to really do
[40:03] Speaker 10: anything on the property.
[40:07] Speaker 1: What's the most recent that something's been going on there?
[40:11] Speaker 10: So I haven't been there in like six years, seven years.
[40:15] Speaker 10: So that was probably the most recent thing that's happened.
[40:19] Speaker 10: And it mainly because my mom passed away on the
[40:23] Speaker 10: ranch and I haven't been there since. But yeah, it
[40:30] Speaker 10: just made me so uncomfortable. I'd never seen something like
[40:32] Speaker 10: that and it just made me not want to come back.
[40:39] Speaker 1: I can understand having what happened to your mom associated
[40:47] Speaker 1: with that. You probably wouldn't want to go back.
[40:50] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[40:50] Speaker 1: But thank you for sharing what you experienced there. That's
[40:54] Speaker 1: a very intense one. Feel free to reach out if
[40:57] Speaker 1: you hear anything else ever happen there. You can email
[41:00] Speaker 1: me at BigFootSociety at gmail.com. But thank you for sharing.
[41:04] Speaker 10: Yeah, man. No problem. It's good to see all the
[41:06] Speaker 10: people that speak out and– come out about their experiences,
[41:10] Speaker 10: because I love reading about it.
[41:12] Speaker 1: Absolutely. Well, you have a great night there.
[41:16] Speaker 3: Yeah, you too.
[41:17] Speaker 5: Take it easy.
[41:19] Speaker 1: Hey, DRock, this is Jeremiah.
[41:21] Speaker 2: Awesome.
[41:21] Speaker 1: It sounds like you've had a really interesting experience over
[41:25] Speaker 1: the years. Would you be able to share?
[41:27] Speaker 2: Yeah. I worked on the West Coast Trail on the
[41:32] Speaker 2: west coast of Vancouver Island. And my co-workers with me
[41:38] Speaker 2: on the trail at the time, there was four of us,
[41:41] Speaker 2: and it was early in the season. So the West
[41:44] Speaker 2: Coast Trail runs from April until September every year. So
[41:50] Speaker 2: this was early 2000s. And at the time, I wasn't
[41:55] Speaker 2: really into.
[42:03] Speaker 2: Bigfoot or had any experiences like that. And, um, so
[42:08] Speaker 2: the cabin that we were working out of is, um,
[42:13] Speaker 2: was built, uh, the infrastructure is built by Parks Canada. And, uh,
[42:18] Speaker 2: so yeah, so the experience was, uh, the four of us, uh,
[42:23] Speaker 2: we're bunked in this little cabin and there's no power. There's,
[42:27] Speaker 2: there's nothing. We just run like propane, uh, stoves over there. And, uh,
[42:32] Speaker 2: So around, like around three in the morning, our cabin was,
[42:42] Speaker 2: something was outside of our cabin and it was not
[42:49] Speaker 2: shaking our cabin, but it was like, sounded like it was,
[42:53] Speaker 2: something was smashing up against our cabin. And the cabin
[42:57] Speaker 2: is a solid built cabin and we were all sound
[43:01] Speaker 2: asleep at the time and it, woke us up out
[43:04] Speaker 2: of a dead sleep and all four of us woke up.
[43:08] Speaker 2: It was pitch black, we had no lights and this
[43:11] Speaker 2: thing was just smashing the heck out of the outside
[43:15] Speaker 2: of our cabin and we were so scared that we
[43:20] Speaker 2: didn't even want to put any lights on to look
[43:22] Speaker 2: out the window until the next morning. So there's a
[43:27] Speaker 2: deck that kind of wraps around the half of our
[43:31] Speaker 2: cabin And the next morning when we woke up after
[43:36] Speaker 2: we went back to sleep, we took turns by going
[43:39] Speaker 2: outside and kicking up against the wall and jumping up
[43:44] Speaker 2: and down on the deck to see if we can
[43:47] Speaker 2: mimic the sound. And there was nothing. We couldn't match
[43:55] Speaker 2: the sound that we experienced. It was so thunderous that it.
[44:06] Speaker 2: I woke up with my hair standing on end. And
[44:11] Speaker 2: that was the first experience I had that was on
[44:17] Speaker 2: the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island. We had no
[44:21] Speaker 2: explanation for it. None of us had any experience like
[44:25] Speaker 2: that before. And we went out and looked around, but
[44:31] Speaker 2: we couldn't see We didn't see no tracks, but there
[44:35] Speaker 2: was on the outside of our cabin, I'd say about
[44:41] Speaker 2: like seven feet up or eight feet up the back wall,
[44:45] Speaker 2: there was no windows on that side. And you could
[44:49] Speaker 2: see there was dirt, something that was left. I don't
[44:54] Speaker 2: know if something was hitting it or it sounded like
[44:57] Speaker 2: something was... Like as if somebody had a boulder or
[45:01] Speaker 2: something that was ramming it up against the back of
[45:05] Speaker 2: our cabin or against our cabin or using some kind
[45:08] Speaker 2: of a ram to hit our cabin. That's the only
[45:14] Speaker 2: kind of way I can describe it.
[45:18] Speaker 1: So there was a fair amount of dirt up there?
[45:22] Speaker 2: Yeah. Was it.
[45:27] Speaker 1: how, how long across was the area with the dirt,
[45:30] Speaker 1: would you say?
[45:32] Speaker 2: Oh, probably, uh, like four feet, like four feet apart. Yeah. Yeah. And,
[45:44] Speaker 2: and that same season. Um, so we're trail maintenance workers.
[45:48] Speaker 2: Two of us were trail maintenance. So we just like
[45:51] Speaker 2: did repairs on infrastructure on the West coast trail and
[45:55] Speaker 2: others were, uh, for people who checked campsites and permits and,
[46:02] Speaker 2: you know, just checked on people and gave information. And
[46:07] Speaker 2: one of my co-workers and we're doing trail maintenance and
[46:14] Speaker 2: it was early in the year before the trail even
[46:17] Speaker 2: opened up. And so we're the only ones on the
[46:19] Speaker 2: West Coast Trail. So there was, we were cutting up
[46:24] Speaker 2: windfalls over the winter that, trees that fell over the
[46:27] Speaker 2: trail and um so we were maybe 50 meters apart
[46:31] Speaker 2: from each other and uh yeah yeah probably 50 meters
[46:36] Speaker 2: apart from each other and he wasn't in my sight
[46:39] Speaker 2: um we were both operating chainsaws and um he had
[46:44] Speaker 2: stopped working um because he he got hit by by
[46:49] Speaker 2: a rock or he said he thought it was a
[46:51] Speaker 2: like a pine cone or a rock or something and
[46:53] Speaker 2: then so he stopped and then Um, he was taking
[46:56] Speaker 2: a water break and then he was sitting there and
[46:59] Speaker 2: then rocks were being thrown at him. And, uh, he,
[47:04] Speaker 2: he had thought it was me. And, uh, but he
[47:07] Speaker 2: realized that when he, he came, he could still hear
[47:11] Speaker 2: my power saw and he came around the corner and
[47:13] Speaker 2: he flagged me down. And he, uh, was telling me
[47:16] Speaker 2: that he had six to seven rocks thrown at him from, uh,
[47:23] Speaker 2: above him in the, uh, on the section that he
[47:26] Speaker 2: was working on. Oh, wow.
[47:31] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[47:38] Speaker 5: It's very interesting.
[47:39] Speaker 1: I actually talked to a guy the other night from, uh,
[47:42] Speaker 1: I think it's Nanaimo.
[47:43] Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
[47:45] Speaker 1: Which is a different part of the, the Island for sure. But, um,
[47:50] Speaker 1: how big were the rocks that were being thrown out?
[47:53] Speaker 2: Uh, they were probably like, I think he said the
[47:55] Speaker 2: biggest one was probably around, like, they weren't big. They
[47:58] Speaker 2: were bigger than pebble size. And he said the biggest
[48:02] Speaker 2: one was probably like an inch and a half.
[48:05] Speaker 6: Wow.
[48:06] Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, and he actually did find one of the
[48:13] Speaker 2: rocks that was thrown at him. And it was, yeah,
[48:16] Speaker 2: so it was like, it looked like it was a
[48:20] Speaker 2: river rock. You know, you can find river, like, they're smooth.
[48:24] Speaker 2: There's no edges on it. And so he's seen the rock.
[48:30] Speaker 2: He'd never seen a rock come up, but he'd seen
[48:31] Speaker 2: it land on the trail near him, and he went
[48:33] Speaker 2: and grabbed it. And when he came down to me,
[48:36] Speaker 2: he was saying he had these rocks thrown at him.
[48:39] Speaker 2: And he said, this is one of the rocks that
[48:42] Speaker 2: he picked up that got thrown in his direction, and
[48:47] Speaker 2: it was a flat, smooth rock. And he said when
[48:51] Speaker 2: he grabbed it, when he picked it up, he said
[48:53] Speaker 2: it was warm as if, Something was, somebody was holding
[48:56] Speaker 2: on to it. Something was holding on to it. Yeah.
[49:01] Speaker 1: Do you still have one of those rocks?
[49:04] Speaker 2: No, he kept it. I don't, and it was, it was, yeah,
[49:08] Speaker 2: it was him, yeah. So we all grew up on
[49:11] Speaker 2: the west coast of Vancouver Island. I live in Parksville
[49:14] Speaker 2: right now. But that was many years ago now, in
[49:17] Speaker 2: the early 2000s.
[49:18] Speaker 1: That's some fascinating stuff that you had happen. Thank you
[49:25] Speaker 1: for sharing that.
[49:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks a lot. Thanks for having me, letting me share.
[49:30] Speaker 1: Absolutely. You have a great night, sir.
