A remote yurt in the Colorado mountains. A terrified dog staring into the tree line. Heavy footsteps in the dark. A powerful sulfur smell rolling through camp. Then a guttural scream followed by the sound of something massive pushing over a tree just feet away. Bernie Duran shares his unforgettable firsthand encounter near Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and why he’s returning to the exact same location in search of answers. 🗣️ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? [0:03] Speaker 1: In this show, we go beyond the campfire stories to
[0:05] Speaker 1: bring you first hand encounters from people who say they've
[0:08] Speaker 1: seen something impossible. From backwoods trails and remote mountain haulers
[0:12] Speaker 1: to quiet farms and crowded highways. The stories come from everywhere,
[0:16] Speaker 1: and each one leaves us with more questions than answers.
[0:20] Speaker 1: These are the voices of the people who've lived it.
[0:24] Speaker 1: So settle in because today you'll hear another account that
[0:27] Speaker 1: just might change the way you see the woods forever.
[0:30] Speaker 2: So stay with us, all right.
[0:33] Speaker 1: Big for Society, Welcome back to another episode. We've got
[0:35] Speaker 1: the privilege of talking to Bernie Duran today. Bernie, how
[0:39] Speaker 1: are you doing.
[0:40] Speaker 2: Sir, I'm doing well. Thank you for having me.
[0:42] Speaker 1: Absolutely a few things about Bernie before we get into it.
[0:46] Speaker 1: We got introduced over on the tic side of things, right,
[0:52] Speaker 1: that's right, Yeah, Big for Society on TikTok is wild West.
[0:56] Speaker 1: If you're not into it over there, you're missing out
[0:59] Speaker 1: on some good times. A few things about Bernie. Bernie
[1:05] Speaker 1: is an army veteran based out of Colorado Springs. Thank
[1:09] Speaker 1: you for your service, sir. You are a nature enthusiast,
[1:13] Speaker 1: also into horror a little bit as well, some horror novels,
[1:18] Speaker 1: maybe some Stephen King.
[1:19] Speaker 2: I don't know. That's all I know about horror novels.
[1:22] Speaker 1: So, and as we were saying about but off air,
[1:28] Speaker 1: you're kind of the guy known in your friend group,
[1:31] Speaker 1: the bigfoot guy. Now after what happened?
[1:33] Speaker 2: Correct, Yes, so this has followed me around. You know,
[1:37] Speaker 2: it's not a bad thing. It's something I embracefleheartedly. But
[1:41] Speaker 2: the downside, or it could be an upside, is I
[1:45] Speaker 2: get all these fun, big but things for my birthday
[1:48] Speaker 2: and from friends for whatever occasion.
[1:50] Speaker 1: So SAME's it's a blessing and a curse. But I
[1:55] Speaker 1: like it more as it's definitely more blessing for me
[1:58] Speaker 1: because I have so many big fo mugs. Are there
[2:02] Speaker 1: any other things that the listener would want to know
[2:04] Speaker 1: about yourself before we get into what happened?
[2:11] Speaker 2: I don't think so. I'm I'm an open book. I'm
[2:13] Speaker 2: open to any questions, any scrutiny. I'm I got no
[2:17] Speaker 2: reason to lie to you. I would just I know
[2:19] Speaker 2: what happened. When when I did have this encounter, I
[2:26] Speaker 2: was in like suspended disbelief for maybe about a week.
[2:30] Speaker 2: But I think I've I've come to terms with with
[2:34] Speaker 2: what this really meant for for me, as you know,
[2:37] Speaker 2: as a little kid who grew up with no supervision
[2:40] Speaker 2: on the Internet and sugar cereal and TV. I you know,
[2:44] Speaker 2: I lived for the cryptids. I lived for for hopping
[2:48] Speaker 2: on YouTube seeing if there's anything new, any new trail
[2:51] Speaker 2: cam footage anywhere.
[2:52] Speaker 1: So this was a This was a big moment for
[2:54] Speaker 1: me in my life. It's something I'm never gonna forget. Okay,
[2:56] Speaker 1: So that's really interesting. So you are actually into bigfoot
[2:59] Speaker 1: in things before you had this happen to you?
[3:02] Speaker 2: Absolutely? Okay? Interesting?
[3:06] Speaker 1: Were you maybe one more question and then I'll let
[3:08] Speaker 1: you share your account.
[3:10] Speaker 2: Were you.
[3:13] Speaker 1: Going into this trying to have an encounter or was
[3:16] Speaker 1: it something where it just happened to you.
[3:19] Speaker 2: No, sir, I wasn't looking for any trouble going out
[3:21] Speaker 2: into the woods. I kind of I do a good
[3:24] Speaker 2: job of setting my intentions when I'm out there, you know,
[3:27] Speaker 2: knowing not to horse around, but anything I don't understand,
[3:31] Speaker 2: and I think that's what keeps me alive in the woods.
[3:35] Speaker 2: So no, I didn't go out there looking for an experience.
[3:39] Speaker 2: It was something that's always been, you know, kind of
[3:42] Speaker 2: in the back of my mind just living in Colorado.
[3:43] Speaker 2: You can't escape it here. And when when I got
[3:48] Speaker 2: to like the nearest town, we were in Glenwood's glen
[3:52] Speaker 2: Wood Springs. So the nearest town is like all Bigfoot.
[3:54] Speaker 2: It was bigfoot everything. You couldn't find it. You know,
[3:57] Speaker 2: there was more Bigfoot than you could shake a stick up.
[4:00] Speaker 2: And so having like that preconceived notion, I was like,
[4:04] Speaker 2: all right, so we probably got something out here, but
[4:07] Speaker 2: I did it in any sense go looking for any trouble.
[4:11] Speaker 1: Absolutely this area has and we are leaving this as
[4:16] Speaker 1: to I believe the mountains mountainous area around Glenwood Springs.
[4:21] Speaker 1: Listeners can can get always, you know, go over to
[4:24] Speaker 1: the map on Big for Society podcast dot com. Type
[4:27] Speaker 1: in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and you can kind of get
[4:29] Speaker 1: the area of what we're talking about. I mean, you've
[4:32] Speaker 1: got Grand Masa down to the southwest that's come up
[4:35] Speaker 1: on the show. You've got the Maroon Bells Wilderness in
[4:38] Speaker 1: snow Mass Lake a little little south and so there
[4:43] Speaker 1: this area. We've kind of been around it. We've actually
[4:47] Speaker 1: been Salt Park up to the north that's been on
[4:50] Speaker 1: the show, but this is the first time that Glenwood
[4:53] Speaker 1: Springs has come up. So you know, feel free, Bernie
[4:56] Speaker 1: to take us back to you know what it was
[4:59] Speaker 1: like that day the year if you can remember in
[5:02] Speaker 1: all those.
[5:03] Speaker 2: Good details and we'll get right into it all right, absolutely,
[5:07] Speaker 2: So this all happened about mid May last year. I
[5:13] Speaker 2: was going on a friend's trip for a birthday party.
[5:16] Speaker 2: So there was four people in total. There was me,
[5:20] Speaker 2: my girlfriend, and her two friends, and we also brought
[5:23] Speaker 2: our dog along with us. So when we were in
[5:27] Speaker 2: Glenwood Springs, the the atmosphere, like I said that, it
[5:32] Speaker 2: was like the entire time just breathed Bigfoot. I got
[5:35] Speaker 2: a couple of commemorative T shirts there. You know, you
[5:38] Speaker 2: found taverns on the corner that were Bigfoot themed. Everything
[5:42] Speaker 2: was Bigfoot like. That kind of seemed like that was
[5:44] Speaker 2: their claim to fame. Beautiful town, beautiful people. To get
[5:47] Speaker 2: me wrong, they have an awesome hot springs and that's
[5:49] Speaker 2: what we were there doing. We got a yurt up
[5:54] Speaker 2: in the mountains around Glenwood Springs and so we often
[5:58] Speaker 2: had to make the drive. I think we made that
[6:00] Speaker 2: drive maybe six times to and from Gleblin Springs. So
[6:06] Speaker 2: this happened on the tail end of our trip. We
[6:11] Speaker 2: spent about three days out there, and the weather was clear.
[6:19] Speaker 2: There were blue skies all day. The entire time we
[6:22] Speaker 2: were there. There was a landslide that happened. I believe
[6:25] Speaker 2: that was unrelated to Bigfoot, but amazing nonetheless. So we
[6:33] Speaker 2: had gotten to the yurt on our last day. That
[6:38] Speaker 2: entire day we were enjoying like the Hot Springs and
[6:42] Speaker 2: just being about the town. So we get back to
[6:46] Speaker 2: the York kind of late. Is about an hour driving
[6:48] Speaker 2: to the mountains. Fifteen minutes into the drive, you lose
[6:50] Speaker 2: cell service, so you're just driving on a hope and
[6:53] Speaker 2: a prayer. And while we were there, it's about midnight.
[7:02] Speaker 2: So we had arrived about midnight after our day at
[7:06] Speaker 2: the Hot Springs, and I had driven us out into
[7:12] Speaker 2: the mountains and the girls we were with wanted a campfire.
[7:16] Speaker 2: They were feeling a little munchy, so we decided to
[7:19] Speaker 2: make something delicious. You know. We had some charcuterie nachos.
[7:22] Speaker 2: They were awesome. Beside the point, my point was that
[7:25] Speaker 2: it was really late. It was about midnight when we
[7:27] Speaker 2: got this fire going. So we're hanging out maybe ten minutes.
[7:31] Speaker 2: We got the nachos on, bring them inside, and we
[7:36] Speaker 2: had our Like I said, we had our dog with us.
[7:38] Speaker 2: So we're out in the mountains. Super small town. The
[7:41] Speaker 2: nearest town at about one hundred and thirty two people
[7:44] Speaker 2: in it when I googled their population. We were by
[7:48] Speaker 2: a river bed. Well, there was a river down at
[7:50] Speaker 2: the base of the mountain. There's plenty of wildlife. We
[7:53] Speaker 2: were maybe sitting about ten thousand feet because tree line
[7:56] Speaker 2: wasn't that much higher above us. But it started at
[8:04] Speaker 2: midnight with our dog freaking out. So our puppy was
[8:07] Speaker 2: tied up around us and she was like, you know,
[8:10] Speaker 2: just running in and around our legs, around the chairs,
[8:13] Speaker 2: just getting all caught up, and she was watching the
[8:15] Speaker 2: tree line off and behind me to my left. So
[8:21] Speaker 2: my girlfriend at the time was like, all right, we're
[8:23] Speaker 2: gonna put you inside the yurt, and the two girls
[8:27] Speaker 2: we were with followed. When Jesse comes back, it's my
[8:32] Speaker 2: girlfriend's name. When she came back, she let me know
[8:35] Speaker 2: that our puppy, Cleopatra, was like full blown crying, full
[8:39] Speaker 2: blown crying when she puts her in the yurt. And
[8:42] Speaker 2: that's like that ties in later. That was very important
[8:46] Speaker 2: to me because, like, I understand this dog. I know
[8:49] Speaker 2: when this dog has to poop before it even knows
[8:51] Speaker 2: it has to poop. So to think that my dog
[8:54] Speaker 2: maybe picked up on something that I didn't was pretty
[8:57] Speaker 2: and nerving. So, like I said, at this point, the
[9:00] Speaker 2: other two girls have gone inside. It was late enough,
[9:04] Speaker 2: we had a long enough day. I decided I was
[9:05] Speaker 2: going to smother the fire. So I go inside the yurt,
[9:09] Speaker 2: get myself a pot of water, and my girlfriend at
[9:12] Speaker 2: the time, well she's still my girlfriend, but at the time,
[9:15] Speaker 2: she walked out and she went to use the restroom,
[9:19] Speaker 2: which was separate but not too far, maybe fifteen fifteen paces. Sorry,
[9:27] Speaker 2: my cat's going crazy, so maybe like a fifteen paces
[9:31] Speaker 2: away from where we were at the yurt. I'm inside
[9:34] Speaker 2: filling up this pot of water, and she starts screaming,
[9:39] Speaker 2: bloody murder. Something something spoofed her outside in the dark,
[9:44] Speaker 2: and you could see all the stars. It was beautiful,
[9:47] Speaker 2: but pitch black, pitch black. You couldn't see what's in
[9:50] Speaker 2: the woods. So I run out there with a pot
[9:52] Speaker 2: of water, and you know, she greets me on these
[9:56] Speaker 2: steps and she's like, oh my gosh, I swear there
[9:58] Speaker 2: were footsteps in the woods behind me, out in the
[10:00] Speaker 2: tree line, their footsteps. So I was like, all right,
[10:05] Speaker 2: get inside, grab yourself a pot of water. We're gonna
[10:07] Speaker 2: smother this fire. The night is over. My bad, I
[10:12] Speaker 2: forgot to add a important detail about that time. There
[10:18] Speaker 2: was a smell of sulfur, so like the entire area
[10:23] Speaker 2: smelled like sulfur. It was just really strong and like
[10:29] Speaker 2: I could feel the hairs on my nose like burning up.
[10:32] Speaker 2: It was so stinky. So the entire area smells like sulfur.
[10:40] Speaker 2: My girlfriend just screamed because she heard something out in
[10:43] Speaker 2: the woods. I've got a pot of water. I head
[10:46] Speaker 2: out to the fire to smother it. She follows me
[10:48] Speaker 2: out with her pot of water. So at this point
[10:50] Speaker 2: we both doused this fire and we're just standing in
[10:54] Speaker 2: complete darkness. And at this moment, about thirty feet off
[11:00] Speaker 2: to my right, which kind of makes sense for like
[11:03] Speaker 2: the trajectory that this thing would have been on as
[11:06] Speaker 2: it walked through the ao, so it my dog picked
[11:09] Speaker 2: up on it as it was back here. And then
[11:12] Speaker 2: Jesse starts screaming about the time it's walking behind the
[11:16] Speaker 2: yurt and now that we're standing outside in the pitch dark.
[11:21] Speaker 2: After we put out this fire. Often to my right,
[11:25] Speaker 2: I hear a guttural yowl, something that goes and immediately
[11:32] Speaker 2: right after, like no pause, a tree got pushed over.
[11:36] Speaker 2: And my girlfriend and I we had we had experienced this,
[11:42] Speaker 2: you know, this landslide earlier in the day. That was
[11:44] Speaker 2: like the first thing that happened when we got there.
[11:46] Speaker 2: We heard this landslide and we remember how thunderous it was,
[11:49] Speaker 2: how it rolled all the way down the mountain. So
[11:51] Speaker 2: as soon as we heard this ooh and like that
[11:56] Speaker 2: was enough to stop us in our tracks. The tree
[11:59] Speaker 2: gets pushed up and we thought, or at least I
[12:01] Speaker 2: knew in my heart that I thought there was another
[12:04] Speaker 2: landslide happening. I was like, wow, this is another landslide.
[12:09] Speaker 2: And you could hear this thing come down and all
[12:12] Speaker 2: the destruction as it pushes trees and shrubs to the side,
[12:15] Speaker 2: and then the noise was over. Something just and in
[12:23] Speaker 2: that moment I had this split second where Jesse and
[12:27] Speaker 2: I look at each other and we had like this
[12:30] Speaker 2: mental connection that party was over. We're getting inside the yurt.
[12:34] Speaker 2: Whatever's out here does not want us out here, so
[12:39] Speaker 2: we're walking our way back up to the yurt. We're
[12:41] Speaker 2: hurrying back to the yurt, and we heard the yowl
[12:45] Speaker 2: one last time, but seemingly further off in the distance.
[12:52] Speaker 2: This all probably happened within about six minutes. This is
[12:59] Speaker 2: a very shortening kind but everything happening all at once.
[13:03] Speaker 2: Like I can explain something going bump in the night
[13:06] Speaker 2: in the forest, I can explain that away all I want,
[13:09] Speaker 2: But I can't explain my dog picking up on it.
[13:15] Speaker 2: All footsteps in the woods, a yowl in the woods
[13:19] Speaker 2: that could be chalked up to any schizophrenic ramblings of
[13:23] Speaker 2: any army vet. But knowing that my dog was like
[13:28] Speaker 2: visibly shaken and maybe picked up on something that I
[13:32] Speaker 2: hadn't really solidified it in me that I had a
[13:38] Speaker 2: genuine encounter with something. It's something where we don't something
[13:42] Speaker 2: we don't acknowledge all the time. And that night was
[13:48] Speaker 2: pretty short. Like I said, once we got inside, we
[13:51] Speaker 2: were all very tired. We had a very long day
[13:53] Speaker 2: out in Lindwood Springs and the next morning it was
[13:58] Speaker 2: it was high tail it. We did everything we could
[14:00] Speaker 2: to pack up, clean leave the site. Good is new
[14:03] Speaker 2: for whoever else would want to use it. But we
[14:10] Speaker 2: have made the decision to go back to the same spot,
[14:14] Speaker 2: same location, same town, but this year. And you know,
[14:21] Speaker 2: part of that was my decision because I feel like
[14:23] Speaker 2: maybe for the first time in my life, I'm the
[14:26] Speaker 2: closest to an answer than than I've ever been. And
[14:31] Speaker 2: I don't think I don't think you can blame me
[14:33] Speaker 2: for that.
[14:36] Speaker 1: No, I wow, that that is wild. I don't blame
[14:39] Speaker 1: you at all. I mean, I'm very similar where you
[14:44] Speaker 1: get the you get the place where stuff is happening,
[14:47] Speaker 1: and then why would you focus on why would you
[14:50] Speaker 1: go anywhere else? Like if you know that this is
[14:53] Speaker 1: the area that stuff is going and I mean, what
[14:57] Speaker 1: what would you say? Your goal is is through through
[15:00] Speaker 1: all this, Bernie.
[15:05] Speaker 2: The goal is is I want the truth for myself.
[15:09] Speaker 2: And that's why I'm not so necessarily worried about putting
[15:12] Speaker 2: this location on a map or being so you know,
[15:17] Speaker 2: leading the bandwagon for everybody to go out and find it.
[15:20] Speaker 2: I do think that these creatures need to be respected.
[15:25] Speaker 2: Their land needs to be respected, and their boundaries for
[15:29] Speaker 2: certainly need to be respected. But the only reason I'm
[15:33] Speaker 2: going back is I kicked myself in the butt every
[15:37] Speaker 2: day for a year for not having gone out to
[15:40] Speaker 2: look for that tree, for not having gone out to
[15:43] Speaker 2: look for any signs that something may have been through
[15:46] Speaker 2: the woods. But it is also just a very beautiful spot,
[15:51] Speaker 2: very beautiful secluded. I like my privacy. I'm I'm kind
[15:55] Speaker 2: of burnt out on people.
[15:59] Speaker 1: I get you so, And it sounds like you already
[16:04] Speaker 1: answered this in a way. But were you noticing sometimes
[16:08] Speaker 1: in Bigfoot related areas, you might notice just things that
[16:14] Speaker 1: seem out of place, whether it's from the way that
[16:17] Speaker 1: certain trees look or even indentations in the ground.
[16:22] Speaker 2: Was there anything that.
[16:25] Speaker 1: May have stuck out to you as other clues as
[16:28] Speaker 1: well that you noticed that next day?
[16:32] Speaker 2: No, No, there's nothing that really piqued my interest. Like
[16:36] Speaker 2: I said, I didn't really go out and check for
[16:38] Speaker 2: check for a fallen tree. I know that would make
[16:43] Speaker 2: my story a lot more credible. I know that would
[16:46] Speaker 2: it maybe solidify it for some people. But there was
[16:49] Speaker 2: nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe in the moment. Maybe
[16:52] Speaker 2: in the moment, because there was the other two nights
[16:56] Speaker 2: before that, there was lots of wild life. You know,
[17:00] Speaker 2: it just seemed like I was in a perfect untouched
[17:03] Speaker 2: part of the world. But the night was pretty still.
[17:07] Speaker 2: I guess I could give you that.
[17:10] Speaker 1: And when you say the night was still, can you
[17:17] Speaker 1: go into a little bit what does that mean to
[17:19] Speaker 1: you when you say the night was still?
[17:23] Speaker 2: So when I let me elaborate exactly, So, there's just
[17:30] Speaker 2: this feeling that you're being watched. I'm pretty naturally paranoid,
[17:36] Speaker 2: and the military didn't help me in that aspect. But
[17:44] Speaker 2: I don't think I remember any birds that night. I mean,
[17:48] Speaker 2: it was also been dyed. I don't know. I don't
[17:51] Speaker 2: know if birds are up at that time of the
[17:53] Speaker 2: night making any noise. But it was pretty still. There
[17:57] Speaker 2: wasn't anything rustling around in the forest around us. Yes,
[18:02] Speaker 2: the wind wasn't too crazy. I mean we had all
[18:04] Speaker 2: the all the leeway to build a fire. Nothing that
[18:10] Speaker 2: super stood out to me in that moment. I think
[18:12] Speaker 2: I was really just hyper focused on the smell, how
[18:17] Speaker 2: my dog was reacting and handling these other three people.
[18:25] Speaker 1: So it was there were more people there than just
[18:28] Speaker 1: you and your girlfriend. Correct, Yes, there were four people
[18:31] Speaker 1: all together.
[18:32] Speaker 2: Okay, So the question I have then is.
[18:38] Speaker 1: The next morning, was there a conversation with them about
[18:41] Speaker 1: what happened? Did they experience anything as well? Things like that?
[18:46] Speaker 2: Absolutely so, Well, one of them were not really friends
[18:52] Speaker 2: with anymore. So yeah, they who shall not be named whatever,
[18:57] Speaker 2: But we did have a really good friend who went
[19:01] Speaker 2: along with us, and they are more of a bigfoot,
[19:06] Speaker 2: like they had been more seeped in the world than
[19:09] Speaker 2: I had been at the time. And on our way
[19:13] Speaker 2: out from glen Wood, we stopped at a McDonald's and
[19:17] Speaker 2: we kind of waited for that other person to like
[19:19] Speaker 2: hit the restroom, and we talked to our friend. We
[19:22] Speaker 2: were like, hey, me and my girlfriend were outside, we
[19:26] Speaker 2: put out the fire. This is what they heard or
[19:28] Speaker 2: this is what we heard. And our friend, her name
[19:32] Speaker 2: is Becca. I'm just gonna it makes it easier to
[19:35] Speaker 2: keep the story straight. So we're talking to Becca, and
[19:40] Speaker 2: you know, we tell her that outside we heard the yowl,
[19:43] Speaker 2: she heard the tree fall, but she didn't hear the yowl.
[19:46] Speaker 2: So when we explained, or when I explained when I
[19:50] Speaker 2: recreated the guttural call, she looked like she had just
[19:55] Speaker 2: seen a ghost, chills all over the body, and she
[19:59] Speaker 2: was like, I got to pull this up on YouTube.
[20:03] Speaker 2: You guys got to see what I see because I've
[20:05] Speaker 2: seen this before. I know, like I've heard that call
[20:07] Speaker 2: before in different videos of people who have just gotten
[20:11] Speaker 2: lucky enough to hear a call. So you know, color
[20:17] Speaker 2: my surprise when that's the same call in a different pitch,
[20:20] Speaker 2: in a different tone in other parts of the world.
[20:25] Speaker 2: I think I believe she showed me a video from
[20:26] Speaker 2: maybe California.
[20:29] Speaker 1: Oh, I wonder if did it sound like it was
[20:32] Speaker 1: almost like a weird type of language what she showed you,
[20:36] Speaker 1: or an act well cowl?
[20:39] Speaker 2: I could I could pick up the similarities in the pattern.
[20:43] Speaker 2: Like I said, the yowl I heard clear as day,
[20:47] Speaker 2: about thirty feet to my right, maybe the length of
[20:49] Speaker 2: a school bus off into the woods where you couldn't see.
[20:52] Speaker 2: I heard this thing start off low and it goes oooo,
[20:58] Speaker 2: and that was very indicative of the So when she
[21:01] Speaker 2: showed me this video, I'll have to I'll have to
[21:05] Speaker 2: find it. It may have not have been from California,
[21:07] Speaker 2: but she showed me a series of bigfoot calls that
[21:10] Speaker 2: had the same cadence, the starting loan and.
[21:14] Speaker 1: Then yep, okay, very interesting. I wonder it might have
[21:20] Speaker 1: been the sier sounds. I don't know, but we'll have
[21:23] Speaker 1: to see. Yeah, if you can track that down, that
[21:25] Speaker 1: would be interesting.
[21:27] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[21:28] Speaker 1: So have you Okay, so you mentioned that Glenwood Springs
[21:36] Speaker 1: is a bigfoot town, and I know there's you know,
[21:39] Speaker 1: so like let's say, for example, I know Bailey, Colorado,
[21:43] Speaker 1: You've got the the museum there that this Sasquatch outpost
[21:49] Speaker 1: with Jim Myers does so does glen Wood have like
[21:53] Speaker 1: a center for bigfoot people to go to in any way,
[21:56] Speaker 1: or like a general store or anything like that.
[22:02] Speaker 2: I don't think that they had a I didn't see
[22:05] Speaker 2: any one dedicated place. It just kind of seemed like
[22:09] Speaker 2: it was, you know, not taboo to talk about. You know,
[22:11] Speaker 2: I could go out to New York and start talking
[22:14] Speaker 2: about Bigfoot. Everybody's gonna look at me crazy. But I
[22:16] Speaker 2: feel like most of the people out there had known
[22:20] Speaker 2: somebody or maybe seen something themselves where you know, they
[22:24] Speaker 2: would be okay living in a society that kind of
[22:27] Speaker 2: structures their tourism around Bigfoot. Right. Have you talked to
[22:31] Speaker 2: anyone from.
[22:33] Speaker 1: That area about what happened and gotten their take about it?
[22:41] Speaker 2: No? But I see how that'd be an awesome idea.
[22:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, it would be extremely interesting. Another thing that would
[22:48] Speaker 1: be really cool, since you know the exact location, would
[22:51] Speaker 1: be to go to resources such as I mean, you
[22:55] Speaker 1: could coach like the Bigfoot Mapping project, go to the
[23:00] Speaker 1: siting map I have, or the BFRO all that good stuff.
[23:03] Speaker 1: Have you ever done that to see if there's been
[23:05] Speaker 1: actual documented experiences close to that same area where you
[23:09] Speaker 1: had yours?
[23:11] Speaker 2: Yes, I did, very briefly, maybe within the first month,
[23:16] Speaker 2: maybe the first week of me being back from glen
[23:20] Speaker 2: Wood Springs. I did look at a map and I
[23:25] Speaker 2: can't remember which group it was, but I did look
[23:27] Speaker 2: at like a like a big Foot siding map, and
[23:30] Speaker 2: I compared what everything else looked like see the area
[23:37] Speaker 2: where I was. I didn't see very many hits, maybe
[23:41] Speaker 2: maybe three or four and this is a year ago.
[23:45] Speaker 1: Well, I mean that's that can be a good thing, though,
[23:47] Speaker 1: because you don't have to worry about sometimes when you
[23:54] Speaker 1: go to bigfoot areas, you have to worry about there
[23:57] Speaker 1: being crossover from other Bigfoot peop Not to say that
[24:01] Speaker 1: this is another Bigfoot person pushing down trees.
[24:03] Speaker 2: In the woods, but you get what I mean.
[24:05] Speaker 1: Like, if you go to the state forest in Iowa
[24:08] Speaker 1: that was on finding Bigfoot, there's probably a chance that
[24:13] Speaker 1: the bigfoot vocalization you hear could be another Bigfoot researcher.
[24:16] Speaker 2: That's kind of how it goes right.
[24:18] Speaker 1: I's not that, but that's kind of cool that you
[24:21] Speaker 1: have an area that is in a way kind of
[24:25] Speaker 1: off the map when it comes to other bigfooters. Now,
[24:29] Speaker 1: when you go back, do you have a game plan
[24:32] Speaker 1: of things you might try the same or try differently
[24:36] Speaker 1: in order to get more of the truth of what's
[24:40] Speaker 1: going on.
[24:42] Speaker 2: This time, I definitely want to understand the ecology of
[24:45] Speaker 2: the system a little better. I'm not just going to
[24:49] Speaker 2: straight up bigfoot hunt. This is a reoccurring trip that
[24:53] Speaker 2: I will be taking every year. We're making it a
[24:56] Speaker 2: yearly trip. It was an awesome place, so I think
[25:00] Speaker 2: this the goal for this trip is to understand the
[25:06] Speaker 2: understand the biome, understand all the animals that live there,
[25:09] Speaker 2: and kind of get a good mental map because I've
[25:11] Speaker 2: got sort of I've got my theories on what makes
[25:14] Speaker 2: bigfoot happy? Gotcha? Gotcha?
[25:18] Speaker 1: And and so I have to ask what theories do
[25:22] Speaker 1: you have so far? So I have two major theories.
[25:29] Speaker 1: I don't know if this is something you've heard.
[25:31] Speaker 2: If it is, please correct me, please, you know, set
[25:34] Speaker 2: me straight on the record. But the first is that
[25:39] Speaker 2: I believe from the location and where I was and
[25:42] Speaker 2: where I had this experience that bigfoot can detect cell
[25:47] Speaker 2: towers can detect cell signals in the same way that
[25:50] Speaker 2: maybe birds can detect magnetic frequencies, and that's how they
[25:54] Speaker 2: know where they're going every year. This place, like I said,
[26:00] Speaker 2: one hundred and thirty two people on Google. When I
[26:03] Speaker 2: looked at their population, that was the nearest town, and
[26:06] Speaker 2: there was not a sign of anybody outside. I saw
[26:10] Speaker 2: some people's dogs, there was a lot of wildlife, but
[26:13] Speaker 2: I didn't see anybody outside, like mowing their lawns or
[26:17] Speaker 2: taking care of anything. Even like the the like municipal
[26:23] Speaker 2: buildings that they had, like their post office didn't have
[26:25] Speaker 2: anybody in it. And so that led me to believe
[26:32] Speaker 2: that like, hey, there's a small population of people here.
[26:36] Speaker 2: They probably got like satellite phones or something, but sell signals.
[26:41] Speaker 2: Like I said, there was forty five minutes where I
[26:43] Speaker 2: was just driving into the mountains no cell signal. So
[26:46] Speaker 2: I'm just you know, fingers crossed, looking at the map, hope,
[26:49] Speaker 2: and I make every right turn.
[26:51] Speaker 1: That's really interesting, I think, Man, I've never heard that
[26:55] Speaker 1: exact way of talking about it, but I think that
[26:59] Speaker 1: I think you're on the right track where it seems
[27:01] Speaker 1: like when you bring electronics into it, it does something.
[27:08] Speaker 1: Also another thing I've I've heard recently that people are
[27:12] Speaker 1: thrown around is that they find when wind turbines are
[27:19] Speaker 1: put up in an area that it messes with the activity.
[27:23] Speaker 1: And I don't know if there's any truth to that,
[27:25] Speaker 1: but that's something interesting to think about. So, are there
[27:33] Speaker 1: any streams or like water sources around this area.
[27:39] Speaker 2: Yes, at the base of the mountain, down by where
[27:43] Speaker 2: the town was and pretty much leading all the way
[27:46] Speaker 2: up there, there was a there was a major river. Okay.
[27:50] Speaker 1: So and I am not an expert at this at all,
[27:54] Speaker 1: but something that I have started to look into is,
[27:59] Speaker 1: I know there are some people out there where they
[28:01] Speaker 1: are collecting the DNA by taking a small vial of
[28:08] Speaker 1: water from water sources that are known to be you know,
[28:13] Speaker 1: that are in known hotspots or where there's activity. And
[28:17] Speaker 1: so that might be something to consider. Finding a laboratory
[28:22] Speaker 1: that could take in DNA samples and you know, potentially
[28:28] Speaker 1: give you the information about, Okay, what kind of individuals,
[28:33] Speaker 1: what kind of animals are using this water source, because
[28:37] Speaker 1: I would say, you know, if you've got a bigfoot
[28:39] Speaker 1: in this area and they're probably drinking out of that water.
[28:42] Speaker 2: That's my absolutely yeah, no, absolutely. So you know, one
[28:46] Speaker 2: thing to note from my encounter was this yao, like
[28:51] Speaker 2: I said, was maybe a school school bus distance away,
[28:53] Speaker 2: a large school bus. By the time we got to
[28:56] Speaker 2: the steps, it was maybe maybe fifty yards maybe half
[29:04] Speaker 2: a half a football field the way this this thing
[29:07] Speaker 2: made off quick. And you know, if you're tall, you
[29:10] Speaker 2: got long legs, that's going to help you scale a mountain.
[29:13] Speaker 2: I think having that, if we accept that as a
[29:18] Speaker 2: fact that a bigfoot gets around because he's got big
[29:22] Speaker 2: feet and long legs, that that would necessarily make sense
[29:26] Speaker 2: to me.
[29:28] Speaker 1: Another cool thing that you could do, if you don't
[29:33] Speaker 1: have it on your phone already, is there's an app
[29:36] Speaker 1: called the Merlin App, and it is one that's used
[29:40] Speaker 1: by really intense bird watchers. But what it does is
[29:47] Speaker 1: it has an audio library of every bird in the
[29:51] Speaker 1: north in the US. So what you can do is
[29:53] Speaker 1: you download the app. It doesn't cost anything, and then
[29:55] Speaker 1: you download this huge data file, which is every bird
[29:59] Speaker 1: in the U. But then you're in an area and
[30:02] Speaker 1: then you use your phone to actively listen. So if
[30:06] Speaker 1: you hear vocalization, take your phone out real quick, and
[30:09] Speaker 1: then it will tell you if it's if it lines
[30:13] Speaker 1: up with anything in the North American Bird Library that
[30:17] Speaker 1: has and it'll tell you. It'll show you. Also, they'll
[30:22] Speaker 1: show you a spectrograph or a spectrogram of what the
[30:28] Speaker 1: what the actual sound looks like as it's happening, and
[30:30] Speaker 1: you can record it. So if you want to really
[30:33] Speaker 1: get into it and use some kind of gadgety things,
[30:36] Speaker 1: I would really recommend that you get that on your phone.
[30:38] Speaker 1: Doesn't cost anything, you just got downloaded at all. And
[30:41] Speaker 1: that has helped me a few times out in the
[30:44] Speaker 1: field like an Oregon, because then you can be like, oh,
[30:47] Speaker 1: I might not know all the birds around here, but
[30:50] Speaker 1: there's a way where I can easily scan it, which
[30:53] Speaker 1: is pretty cool.
[30:53] Speaker 2: Absolutely, that sounds super awesome, and I love watching birds.
[30:57] Speaker 2: Oftentimes I'll go out and identify a bird and then
[31:00] Speaker 2: look for it. It's just one of my one of
[31:04] Speaker 2: my tism powers right back at you.
[31:09] Speaker 1: Although I'm probably not diagnosed, but hey, that's what I
[31:12] Speaker 1: get for growing up in the eighties, So good, good,
[31:17] Speaker 1: good stuff. Now, experiencing this, has it changed your viewpoint
[31:21] Speaker 1: at all about how you about how what you view
[31:28] Speaker 1: bigfoot as Sometimes when people have these experiences, it changes
[31:33] Speaker 1: their viewpoint. M hmm.
[31:38] Speaker 2: I think it definitely solidified. It solidified something in me where,
[31:45] Speaker 2: you know, like I said, I was growing up watching
[31:47] Speaker 2: all these testimonies, watching these videos on bigfoot, and it's
[31:53] Speaker 2: a little bittersweet. It's a little bittersweet because maybe I
[31:56] Speaker 2: was more of a skeptic back then. But now all
[32:00] Speaker 2: I have is is events, and they all they all
[32:03] Speaker 2: point to to a big foot encounter and that you know,
[32:10] Speaker 2: maybe these people who they might look crazy, they might
[32:13] Speaker 2: smell crazy, maybe they're not so crazy. Yeah, absolutely, I
[32:17] Speaker 2: think that. I think that definitely. You know, I was
[32:20] Speaker 2: definitely reflecting on that because now I am one of
[32:24] Speaker 2: those people. Now I'm on the other side and and
[32:27] Speaker 2: I'm not it's not so bad. Yeah, it's really not
[32:30] Speaker 2: that bad. I'm right there with you.
[32:32] Speaker 1: It would be cool if you could try to replicate
[32:38] Speaker 1: the circumstances as much as much as possible. Although I
[32:41] Speaker 1: know one of the individuals you're not friends with anymore,
[32:43] Speaker 1: but you know, having like your girlfriend there, having the
[32:46] Speaker 1: dog there, things like that, that might be kind of
[32:50] Speaker 1: a cool deal. But you know, sometimes it's hard to
[32:52] Speaker 1: do that. But you know, Bernie, I am really looking
[32:56] Speaker 1: forward to I hope that you know, once you you
[32:59] Speaker 1: have that next trip out there, and you know, to
[33:03] Speaker 1: see what you're able to get interaction wise, evidence wise,
[33:08] Speaker 1: it would be great to hear from you, and so
[33:10] Speaker 1: I hope that you're able to reach out with any
[33:14] Speaker 1: information once you get out there again.
[33:17] Speaker 2: No, of course, it's something that I'm looking forward to.
[33:19] Speaker 2: I am I'm doing I'm really doing my part to
[33:23] Speaker 2: understand and study the lay of the land. Like I said,
[33:26] Speaker 2: there during the daytime, there was plenty of wildlife they had,
[33:30] Speaker 2: there was access to fresh water, fresh running water, and
[33:34] Speaker 2: about one hundred and thirty two people you got to
[33:36] Speaker 2: worry about as opposed to a larger city or as
[33:41] Speaker 2: opposed to, you know, closer closer to civilization. And I
[33:48] Speaker 2: would like to talk about one of my other theories,
[33:50] Speaker 2: if that's all right, Yeah, absolutely, go right. So this
[33:54] Speaker 2: this was kind of I connected these two dots while
[33:57] Speaker 2: I was at I was at the Nature Museum Denver.
[34:01] Speaker 2: So there there's an exhibit on wooly mammoths and they
[34:06] Speaker 2: kind of talk about elephant and how these gigantic animals
[34:09] Speaker 2: had huge padded feet and this is still tree today.
[34:14] Speaker 2: Elephants have padded feet and it enables them to move
[34:20] Speaker 2: silently through the savannah. And really, I was also thinking
[34:26] Speaker 2: about Tyrannosaurus Rex, because I guess Tyrannosaurus Rex might have
[34:30] Speaker 2: had the same deal going on. But and then that
[34:34] Speaker 2: led me down this rabbit hole of looking at all
[34:36] Speaker 2: the casts of big foot feet that are out there,
[34:39] Speaker 2: and I was thinking to myself, what like the anatomical
[34:44] Speaker 2: bone structure might look like under that huge cast. Bigfoot
[34:49] Speaker 2: has big feet, He's probably got a lot of fat
[34:51] Speaker 2: and a lot of patting, which would aid and keeping
[34:55] Speaker 2: them stealthy and silent the same way it happens with elephants.
[35:01] Speaker 1: That's a really cool theory. Yeah, I don't think I've
[35:04] Speaker 1: actually heard anyone go into that, but.
[35:07] Speaker 2: Let's make let's call both these things the Bernie theory.
[35:12] Speaker 2: I'm putting let's put my name on it, dude, where
[35:15] Speaker 2: you're putting your foot down that it's the Burnie theory.
[35:18] Speaker 2: It is document here you go. Sorry, Yeah, I saw,
[35:24] Speaker 2: I saw the moment. I just had to take it.
[35:25] Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. But I think he
[35:27] Speaker 1: might have something there. And I'm surprised that hasn't come
[35:31] Speaker 1: up on the show before. I don't think it ever has.
[35:33] Speaker 2: But I've been thinking about this for a long time.
[35:38] Speaker 1: And I think a lot of it is you're going
[35:41] Speaker 1: into this with with the right mindset, with the right intention.
[35:45] Speaker 1: You're not getting out there like, Okay, we're going to
[35:47] Speaker 1: get out there, We're going to bag a big foot,
[35:49] Speaker 1: like no, this is not what I'm picking up from you,
[35:52] Speaker 1: which I think is going to definitely help you.
[35:56] Speaker 2: The more that people have the right.
[35:58] Speaker 1: Mindset and don't go out there like I'm going to hunt,
[36:01] Speaker 1: I'm going to take over stuff like that, You're you're
[36:05] Speaker 1: more than likely going to have more interactions and then
[36:09] Speaker 1: discover more info information about the area, what's in the area,
[36:15] Speaker 1: and and hopefully about Bigfoot itself. But you know, Bernie,
[36:20] Speaker 1: it has been a really fun conversation with you. I
[36:22] Speaker 1: don't get to talk to people, as I was saying,
[36:25] Speaker 1: from Colorado a lot, so it's always, you know, special
[36:28] Speaker 1: when you're able to come on the show. But I
[36:30] Speaker 1: want to make sure was there anything else that you
[36:32] Speaker 1: would wanted to share coming to the show today or
[36:36] Speaker 1: do you think we were able to cover everything you
[36:39] Speaker 1: had set aside?
[36:41] Speaker 2: I think this was pretty you know, over encompassing for
[36:45] Speaker 2: just the six minutes of my life where I encountered Bigfoot,
[36:49] Speaker 2: and that's what it is. You can't you can't convince
[36:52] Speaker 2: me otherwise. I was out there, I smelled it, I
[36:54] Speaker 2: saw it, I heard it. It would have been better if,
[36:58] Speaker 2: you know, it would have been better if we had
[36:59] Speaker 2: the connection moment, a little a little hand to hand
[37:03] Speaker 2: to let him know I'm there for him because I
[37:05] Speaker 2: believe in Bigfoot, he believes in me. No. I think
[37:10] Speaker 2: this was a this was perfect. I'm glad I found you.
[37:13] Speaker 2: Thank you for the community. I hope, I hope we
[37:16] Speaker 2: can get some more people in on the conversation and
[37:19] Speaker 2: hopefully we can get some more theories gone, because I
[37:21] Speaker 2: think I've got I've got something going with Bernie theory. Yeah,
[37:24] Speaker 2: they met. It's it's the first Bernie theory I've heard of.
[37:27] Speaker 2: So there you go.
[37:28] Speaker 1: But man, thank you so much for coming on the show.
[37:30] Speaker 1: And as I said, you know, we'll definitely keep in
[37:32] Speaker 1: touch with what comes down the road next for you
[37:36] Speaker 1: when you go back to that area. But thanks again, Bernie, Hey,
[37:39] Speaker 1: thank you so much. Have you ever heard all the
[37:42] Speaker 1: accounts of Bigfoot activity around Oakridge, Oregon? And you think
[37:47] Speaker 1: to yourself, Man, I would love to get out in
[37:49] Speaker 1: those woods and experience it for myself. Well, guess what
[37:54] Speaker 1: this year you can If this is interesting to you,
[37:58] Speaker 1: stay tuned because it's pretty cool. Sasquatch Summer Fest is
[38:02] Speaker 1: coming up July tenth through the eleventh, twenty twenty six.
[38:06] Speaker 1: It's gonna be even better than the previous year's reason
[38:10] Speaker 1: number one, I'll be one of the speakers. It's gonna
[38:13] Speaker 1: be wild. I'll probably I'll say this. There may be
[38:19] Speaker 1: stuff you haven't heard anywhere else, because let's just say
[38:23] Speaker 1: sometimes it's well, you just gotta be there. We'll leave
[38:28] Speaker 1: at that. More about looking for Bigfoot in the Oakridge Woods.
[38:31] Speaker 1: Now check this out. You may know Jason Kenzie from
[38:36] Speaker 1: his documentary series Searching for Sasquatch. Well, this year you
[38:41] Speaker 1: can not only go to the festival, but you can
[38:44] Speaker 1: also sign up for a track deep in the wild
[38:52] Speaker 1: forest outside of Oakridge with Jason Kenzie to the Bigfoot
[38:56] Speaker 1: spots to look for Bigfoot. There's only eight spots to
[39:00] Speaker 1: sign up for this, and yes, this will also be
[39:04] Speaker 1: filmed for the next chapter in his documentary series, which
[39:07] Speaker 1: is Searching for Sasquatch. This is a once in a
[39:10] Speaker 1: lifetime deal. It's just trust it's going to be a

[40:04] Speaker 1: this episode, I want to say something directly to a
[40:06] Speaker 1: very specific group of listeners. If you're in the military,
[40:10] Speaker 1: any branch or forces, and if you've seen something that
[40:13] Speaker 1: no one can explain, or if you're a National Park
[40:16] Speaker 1: ranger or forestry worker who's been told to stay quiet,

[40:34] Speaker 1: or search and rescue responder who's heard screams or found
[40:37] Speaker 1: tracks that didn't make sense. If you're in the logging
[40:40] Speaker 1: industry on a remote oil field, or a trucker with
[40:44] Speaker 1: government contracts and you've had something happen that you've never
[40:48] Speaker 1: told a soul. And if you're a biologist, a wildlife specialist,
[40:52] Speaker 1: or a field researcher under contract who has found evidence
[40:55] Speaker 1: you're not allowed to report. If you're a pastor, a missionary,
[40:59] Speaker 1: or someone on a spiritual retreat and you saw something
[41:02] Speaker 1: that shook your faith, or if you work in the
[41:05] Speaker 1: shadows CIA, NSA or anything with clearance and you've seen
[41:09] Speaker 1: what the public hasn't, then I want to talk to you,
[41:14] Speaker 1: even if it's anonymous. You can reach me at Bigfoot
