A Plains Cree witness heads into the Saskatchewan boreal forest before sunrise during a Sundance ceremony. Voices answer his calls from deep within the trees. The responses keep getting closer. Wood knocks begin echoing through the darkness. A powerful wet-dog odor fills the air. Something is moving just out of sight. Later, a lifelong outdoorsman shares decades of encounters stretching from Oregon to Alaska. His experiences include a terrifying nighttime encounter with a red-haired Sasquatch near Salem, massive rocks thrown into a campsite, and a remarkable sighting of a Sasquatch feeding on clams along the Alaskan coast. These accounts come from people who spent their lives in remote wilderness areas and know exactly what belongs in the woods. Locations featured in this episode include Waterhen Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan, the Little North Fork area near Salem, Oregon, and remote coastal regions of Alaska. 📖 Follow Jeremiah's cancer health updates here: https://www.caringbridge.org/site/569ef3d3-68be-11f1-8790-97fdfd2bbc64 🗣️ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? [0:00] Speaker 1: You're listening to Big the Society, and I'm Jeremiah Byron.
[0:03] Speaker 1: In this show, we go beyond the campfire stories to
[0:05] Speaker 1: bring you first hand encounters from people who say they've
[0:08] Speaker 1: seen something impossible. From backwoods trails and remote mountain haulers
[0:12] Speaker 1: to quiet farms and crowded highways. The stories come from everywhere,
[0:16] Speaker 1: and each one leaves us with more questions than answers.
[0:20] Speaker 2: These are the.
[0:21] Speaker 1: Voices of the people who've lived it. To settle in,
[0:24] Speaker 1: because today you'll hear another account that just might change
[0:28] Speaker 1: the way you see the woods forever.
[0:30] Speaker 2: So stay with us.
[0:31] Speaker 1: Please keep Jeremiah in your prayers as he continues his
[0:34] Speaker 1: fight against cancer. For more updates about his medical journey,
[0:38] Speaker 1: please go to the carring Bridge link in the show notes.
[0:42] Speaker 1: Thank you Dale, what brings you up today?
[0:45] Speaker 3: Sir? Well this see I'm in Canada at northern Saskatchewan,
[0:53] Speaker 3: just as the just above the Forgnite's parallel on the
[0:58] Speaker 3: west sun out of Saskatchewan where the boreal forest begins.
[1:03] Speaker 3: Right anyway, This happened in twenty eighteen and I usually
[1:11] Speaker 3: attend a sundance ceremony and on First First Nation planes
[1:17] Speaker 3: creed by the way from threety six territory and my
[1:23] Speaker 3: encounter happened four o'clock five o'clock in the morning in
[1:28] Speaker 3: that lodge. This was on a reserve called water Hand
[1:34] Speaker 3: Lake Personation, right, and I was chosen to go and
[1:39] Speaker 3: look for the tree of life. It's called a malactic
[1:45] Speaker 3: and I was chosen. The four of us were chosen
[1:48] Speaker 3: to go and choose the tree. Right, And I got
[1:52] Speaker 3: up about four four thirty in the morning, made some breakfast,
[1:55] Speaker 3: seeing the guys in the center of the circle, and
[2:00] Speaker 3: cook my breakfast. As I was eating, they were gone, right,
[2:03] Speaker 3: So they went straight south, which was sort of like
[2:08] Speaker 3: an open area. I'd say, i'd see about a football
[2:12] Speaker 3: field size, and then the rest is all surrounded by forest.
[2:16] Speaker 3: And I went over to the center of the circle
[2:20] Speaker 3: and I asked the uh the the guy that was
[2:25] Speaker 3: putting it on, and I said, which way did they go?
[2:27] Speaker 4: Oh?
[2:27] Speaker 3: They went straight south. That's okay. Sure. So as soon
[2:32] Speaker 3: as I got to the tree line, like, it wasn't like,
[2:35] Speaker 3: you know, to too uh thick or anything like that
[2:39] Speaker 3: at that point, right, So I called out to the guys.
[2:45] Speaker 3: I went in Maybe I don't know a good I
[2:48] Speaker 3: don't know one hundred feet into the bush. I called
[2:51] Speaker 3: out to the guys. I went, whoo whoo. I did that.
[2:57] Speaker 3: I did that twice. Sorry, that's a seagull flying about me.
[3:00] Speaker 3: And it called out to the southeastern side of me,
[3:07] Speaker 3: deeper into the bush. Oh, that's the guys. And I
[3:11] Speaker 3: didn't think nothing of it. I thought it was just
[3:12] Speaker 3: the guys out there, right, So I marched on. The
[3:16] Speaker 3: bush got thicker. I ended up stumbling onto like an
[3:21] Speaker 3: dirt road. It wasn't a dirt road, but I mean
[3:24] Speaker 3: a wagon road, an old, long time ago road. And
[3:29] Speaker 3: I called out again. I would who and then he
[3:34] Speaker 3: called me again. So I thought that was the guys
[3:37] Speaker 3: out there. So I walked in the next thing, you know,
[3:41] Speaker 3: I would say a good fifty feet to one hundred feet,
[3:45] Speaker 3: I heard this knock right on a tree trunk. Oh
[3:52] Speaker 3: that's strange, So I kept walking. Suddenly I called out again.
[4:00] Speaker 3: I went whoo whoo, and called me back again. This
[4:04] Speaker 3: time it was even closer. I would say, about fifty
[4:07] Speaker 3: feet closer. And then as I'm walking in this road,
[4:13] Speaker 3: the bush got so thick immediately, and I kept walking.
[4:18] Speaker 3: Then all of a sudden, I hear this tapping again
[4:24] Speaker 3: right on the tree trunk like probably like ten feet
[4:27] Speaker 3: away from me, and I looked. I ducked down, and
[4:29] Speaker 3: I looked around. I couldn't see a thing because the
[4:33] Speaker 3: bush was so thick. And this was in August. I mean,
[4:38] Speaker 3: like the dew was, you know, folding the trees over right,
[4:41] Speaker 3: I mean it was so wet that day that morning.
[4:46] Speaker 3: And suddenly I kind of stood still, and like the
[4:52] Speaker 3: previous guy you had on said, there was a smell
[4:56] Speaker 3: to this thin the being. It was kind of like
[5:02] Speaker 3: a musty smell, like a wet dog. This is exactly
[5:07] Speaker 3: That's why I wanted to share my story, because I
[5:09] Speaker 3: was listening to the guy and that is exactly what
[5:13] Speaker 3: I smell. And then and I thought to myself and
[5:17] Speaker 3: I said, no way. I froze and I looked around.
[5:23] Speaker 3: I turned my head around like three sixty to try
[5:27] Speaker 3: and look, Okay, where's this thing? Where is this thing?
[5:30] Speaker 3: And I couldn't see it was the bush was so thick.
[5:34] Speaker 3: And then at the time when I started to smell
[5:37] Speaker 3: this and I thought, oh, okay, this is this is
[5:40] Speaker 3: not the guys here, I turned around slowly. I was like,
[5:44] Speaker 3: I'm right on that kind of like a bush trail,
[5:48] Speaker 3: and the bush was so thick. I just booked it
[5:51] Speaker 3: out of there, and I was like, holy smokes, I
[5:56] Speaker 3: got the camp and I swear to god, you know,
[6:00] Speaker 3: it was one of the scariest things in my life
[6:04] Speaker 3: to experience that. And then I was you know, I
[6:10] Speaker 3: was always skeptical, right, I'm skeptical. I got to see
[6:14] Speaker 3: it to believe it. That was my thought process, you know,
[6:18] Speaker 3: all the time. But when I experienced it that morning
[6:23] Speaker 3: in twenty eighteen of August, you know, now, when I
[6:27] Speaker 3: see you know, and hear these stories and I'm like, man,
[6:31] Speaker 3: that is similar to what you know I've experienced. And
[6:38] Speaker 3: it's one of those things where you say to yourself,
[6:41] Speaker 3: you know, holy man, did I was it real? Or
[6:44] Speaker 3: was it you? You know what I mean?
[6:45] Speaker 1: I didn't know just to know absolutely. Yeah, it's a
[6:48] Speaker 1: hundred percent on with you, dude. You just your mind
[6:51] Speaker 1: tries to take talking out of it.
[6:53] Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, it's it's like like at that moment
[6:59] Speaker 3: and at that time where you know, it's like, man,
[7:02] Speaker 3: but I couldn't see nothing because the bush got so thick.
[7:05] Speaker 3: Like I mean, these things are smart, right, They're they're
[7:08] Speaker 3: they're so intelligent that they used the bush to their advantage.
[7:12] Speaker 3: That's like, like you have you know, these green berets
[7:18] Speaker 3: or whatever you know to go out, you know and
[7:20] Speaker 3: whatever and do all their you know, war type thing.
[7:23] Speaker 3: This guy, I mean, this thing used the bush to
[7:27] Speaker 3: his advantage. And I thought, you know I could, I'd
[7:30] Speaker 3: share that story with you and then with everybody else.
[7:33] Speaker 3: I listen to your podcast and all that kind of stuff.
[7:35] Speaker 3: I mean, it's.
[7:37] Speaker 1: Man, so thank you for coming up. Your story is fascinating.
[7:42] Speaker 1: I want to share something with you. So I talked
[7:45] Speaker 1: to a lot of people all the time, right, I
[7:48] Speaker 1: do a lot of interviews, and I was interviewing an
[7:50] Speaker 1: individual from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota earlier
[7:55] Speaker 1: today and he had a hypothesis. And his hypothesis is that, uh,
[8:00] Speaker 1: when certain ceremonies like the sun Dance are done, then
[8:05] Speaker 1: that brings them in. And to hear you talk about
[8:10] Speaker 1: your experiences that took place around the time of the
[8:14] Speaker 1: sun dance that was happening around water Hen is just
[8:18] Speaker 1: I mean, there there you go. It's fascinating, right, very
[8:24] Speaker 1: very cool to once you talk to enough people you
[8:27] Speaker 1: start to make connections like that, and just thank you
[8:30] Speaker 1: so much for sharing. It's it's always a privilege to
[8:33] Speaker 1: hear about things that happen on the different reservations and
[8:40] Speaker 1: in North America, and I appreciate them.
[8:42] Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely absolutely, And thank you for listening to my
[8:46] Speaker 3: story and good evening.
[8:48] Speaker 2: Yes there are you two.
[8:50] Speaker 3: Thanks.
[8:54] Speaker 2: That was so cool, very very cool.
[8:59] Speaker 3: I'm good.
[9:00] Speaker 4: I'm from Oregon.
[9:02] Speaker 1: That's awesome, dude. I saw your comments. They're very interesting.
[9:06] Speaker 1: I just have a few things to say real quick.
[9:09] Speaker 1: It sounds like we're going to be talking about things,
[9:12] Speaker 1: and I would say, we have to be very careful
[9:15] Speaker 1: with what terms we use on this platform.
[9:17] Speaker 4: If you know what I mean, so well kind of
[9:20] Speaker 4: I'll try to you know, be you have.
[9:23] Speaker 1: To use you have to use things like unlived. You
[9:28] Speaker 1: have to be careful of saying certain like say words
[9:32] Speaker 1: like pew pew, which sounds not smart, but it's unfortunately
[9:36] Speaker 1: what you have to do on this thing.
[9:37] Speaker 4: So like what was the word? I couldn't even hear
[9:40] Speaker 4: what you said there the last time, instead of.
[9:44] Speaker 1: Like pew pew, it's it's really it makes you feel
[9:47] Speaker 1: like a two year old, but oh, instead of like
[9:52] Speaker 1: something that you would I don't even know how I
[9:55] Speaker 1: can explain it, Like a forty four.
[9:58] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
[10:00] Speaker 4: Oh, okay, you's got to kick.
[10:03] Speaker 2: They'll kick us off. So okay, feel free to share.
[10:06] Speaker 2: I'm really interested to hear what you've experienced in not
[10:09] Speaker 2: being out there in Oregon.
[10:11] Speaker 4: Well, I'm from North California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska and Canada.
[10:18] Speaker 4: I'm seventy one years old. When I in I was
[10:22] Speaker 4: Alaska king crab fishing, twenty years in the barks. He's
[10:25] Speaker 4: living in the wilderness and remote areas, and there's a
[10:29] Speaker 4: whole there's many stories, more than one. So starts out
[10:33] Speaker 4: when I'm twelve. I live in Salem, Oregon. On the radio,
[10:37] Speaker 4: Captain Frank Hansen on kb z Y, which they still
[10:44] Speaker 4: at that station here, says that he has a bigfoot
[10:48] Speaker 4: froze in the ice and you can go see it
[10:51] Speaker 4: for four dollars and fifty cents. It's in a chest freezer. Okay.
[10:59] Speaker 4: When he's in Yeah, he's a captain in the Air
[11:01] Speaker 4: Force pilot retired. So he went hunting in Ohio by
[11:07] Speaker 4: Lake Michigan. Because I got to talk to him when
[11:10] Speaker 4: I for like a half hour and got to see
[11:12] Speaker 4: this thing up close and personal. And I'm a hunter
[11:15] Speaker 4: fisherman taxidermy. I know what some fake thing looks like,
[11:20] Speaker 4: and it wasn't fake. It was real, frozen four inches
[11:25] Speaker 4: under the ice. Every eyes fixed and dilated. The hand
[11:29] Speaker 4: went up to block the pew pew because he had
[11:35] Speaker 4: pew pewed it from one hundred yards in the gut
[11:38] Speaker 4: and it went down. He waited like when you're hunting
[11:42] Speaker 4: an animal, you let it die peacefully. But it was
[11:46] Speaker 4: still alive, and he unalived it by pewpew, and it
[11:52] Speaker 4: brought its hand up to block it and it went
[11:54] Speaker 4: through the hand in it right over the left eye
[11:59] Speaker 4: center a blood and he put it in a freezer
[12:02] Speaker 4: and a still, you know, blood coming out fresh. It
[12:06] Speaker 4: curled in the ice and froze every at eyelash in place.
[12:12] Speaker 4: It had palms that were light and dark black skin.
[12:17] Speaker 4: The hair was longer at the bottom of the arm
[12:19] Speaker 4: down to the elbow, just like a mountain gorilla. But
[12:23] Speaker 4: the face was the mountain gorilla, but mountain gorillas have
[12:27] Speaker 4: a bulvous mouth. This had a human mouth with human teeth.
[12:32] Speaker 4: And I looked at every hair in place. If you
[12:35] Speaker 4: make attack like a wax for dummy, you have to
[12:38] Speaker 4: put every hair in place and there's a little needle
[12:41] Speaker 4: mark by every hair. This had hair just like you
[12:45] Speaker 4: got on your arm, you know how it comes out
[12:47] Speaker 4: of your skin. It had all the wrinkles, It had
[12:49] Speaker 4: dirt under his fingernails. It was an uncircumcised adolescent male,
[12:56] Speaker 4: so it wasn't huge. It was small, but it wasn't
[12:59] Speaker 4: human in any sense of the word. So I'm twelve
[13:02] Speaker 4: years old with my grandpa brother and I'm talking to
[13:05] Speaker 4: Frank Anson about this thing, and it was you know,
[13:09] Speaker 4: I've seen a lot of dead things, so I know
[13:13] Speaker 4: what's real and not and it I guarantee you that
[13:17] Speaker 4: thing was a real bigfoot. So we all now years later,
[13:23] Speaker 4: I'm questioning in my mind what I saw because you know,
[13:28] Speaker 4: it's just like kind of strange. And I'm up camping
[13:32] Speaker 4: on the fourth of July with my pregnant wife and
[13:34] Speaker 4: two year old son. We had to hike in. It
[13:38] Speaker 4: wasn't at a campground. It was behind a gravel pit
[13:42] Speaker 4: east to sail them up by the Little North Fork
[13:44] Speaker 4: by the Cement Bridge, behind a gravel pit. But he
[13:49] Speaker 4: could camp there for free. And the trail went way
[13:51] Speaker 4: up into the mountains and it split and went down
[13:54] Speaker 4: the river right there. And split and went right through
[13:57] Speaker 4: our camp, so we were blocking I gets the trail
[14:00] Speaker 4: to get to the river, you might say, but we
[14:03] Speaker 4: didn't realize that because there was an old campfire there,
[14:05] Speaker 4: so somebody had been camping there before and it was
[14:08] Speaker 4: free camping, so we stayed there. You didn't have to pay.
[14:14] Speaker 4: So as it's getting in the afternoon evening, we got
[14:19] Speaker 4: the whole camp set up, fire going. Everybody ate. Now
[14:23] Speaker 4: I'm not drinking or smoking anything that would cause me
[14:27] Speaker 4: to see something weird, but we're hearing rocks being thrown around,
[14:36] Speaker 4: this coming through the trees, the small ones, and we're
[14:40] Speaker 4: hearing something walking around bipedal, you know, two steps stop.
[14:45] Speaker 4: We're hearing. Now, this was before it was on TV
[14:49] Speaker 4: at all, and in uh, I forget what year it was,
[14:54] Speaker 4: kids about two years. We're had seventy four sometimes, but
[14:58] Speaker 4: letter Knee Boy put out TV show that explains this
[15:02] Speaker 4: better after this event. So we're hearing this stuff. So
[15:06] Speaker 4: we're come to the edge of the campground. We're looking
[15:09] Speaker 4: because it's about there's birch trees about one hundred feet
[15:12] Speaker 4: tall right by us, and then about eighty yards to
[15:15] Speaker 4: the bottom of a cliff eighty to one hundred yards,
[15:18] Speaker 4: and then the cliff goes up one hundred yards and
[15:20] Speaker 4: then the mountain and just timber, you know, virgin timber.
[15:24] Speaker 4: No one's logged up there. And we're standing there and
[15:29] Speaker 4: through the tree tops comes the boulder that lands one
[15:35] Speaker 4: to two feet to my right foot. It's the ground.
[15:40] Speaker 4: My buddy had a three fifty seven I didn't even
[15:42] Speaker 4: know about. He pulled it out of his back pocket
[15:46] Speaker 4: and emptied it up the hill. And you can hear
[15:48] Speaker 4: things running, but we don't know what it is yet.
[15:52] Speaker 4: So when you could hear stuff moving around the whole
[15:54] Speaker 4: camp as it got dark, and big branches snapping, and
[16:00] Speaker 4: we didn't know what that meant, then I do. Now
[16:02] Speaker 4: i'd have packed up and left, but I already had
[16:05] Speaker 4: the beds made, and for some reason, only time in
[16:09] Speaker 4: my life something I laid a tarp down, put branches
[16:13] Speaker 4: and ferns, made a nice bed, put a tarp on it,
[16:16] Speaker 4: sleeping bags and covered with a tarp. And then for
[16:19] Speaker 4: some reason something told me to cover it with brush.
[16:22] Speaker 4: So it was like keep the dew off everybody, But
[16:24] Speaker 4: really it was camouflage. And I've never done that ever
[16:27] Speaker 4: in my life, but that night I did so because
[16:30] Speaker 4: we're hearing stuff. There was a big stump in that
[16:34] Speaker 4: little camp area, and I drug that over the fire
[16:37] Speaker 4: and built the big fire on it. I knew that
[16:39] Speaker 4: was going to burn all night. And I'm sleeping by
[16:42] Speaker 4: the fire. My buddy's in a tent about twenty feet
[16:45] Speaker 4: away on the other side of the fire. And at midnight,
[16:50] Speaker 4: but I fall asleep. At midnight, I hear him yelling, Brad, Brad,
[16:54] Speaker 4: is that you. I sit up and I see I'm
[16:59] Speaker 4: sitting down, and reason why, My head's the only thing
[17:01] Speaker 4: was sticking out, so I didn't notice this. But I
[17:04] Speaker 4: see a red bigfoot stooping down to look in the
[17:11] Speaker 4: tent and he's going, Brad, is that you? And I'm going, no,
[17:14] Speaker 4: I'm over here. And when I sat up, that's when
[17:17] Speaker 4: I saw it. When I yelled, it looked right at me,
[17:20] Speaker 4: ran over to me, kneeled down next to me, looked
[17:24] Speaker 4: me in the face. Fear came over its face. We
[17:28] Speaker 4: locked eyes, and it brought its hand up to break
[17:31] Speaker 4: eye contact, and then turned and went back the other way,
[17:35] Speaker 4: and it grabbed a limb up in the tree that
[17:38] Speaker 4: I'm six four at that time, and I had to
[17:42] Speaker 4: jump up to grab that limb, and it grabbed the
[17:46] Speaker 4: limb and swung into the brush where it was so
[17:48] Speaker 4: thick it takes me two hours with a machete to
[17:51] Speaker 4: go fifty feet. It went through there like a locomotive,
[17:56] Speaker 4: and it snapped that limb off, and I saw hair
[17:59] Speaker 4: up there, and I wish I have grabbed it, because
[18:01] Speaker 4: I was twenty years old. Didn't think about that because
[18:03] Speaker 4: I freaked out what I saw. The only thing I
[18:07] Speaker 4: had with me was a little tiny cub scout hatchet
[18:10] Speaker 4: that wouldn't have done anything but made it mad. But
[18:14] Speaker 4: I'm lucky it ran away because well, oh, I missed
[18:18] Speaker 4: the part before dark. We walked down. Now this is
[18:22] Speaker 4: why I built the fire. I missed part of it.
[18:24] Speaker 4: I'm old. We walked down. The girls had to go
[18:27] Speaker 4: peece So we're camping in the woods and there's He
[18:29] Speaker 4: took his wife that way down the trail, and I
[18:31] Speaker 4: took my wife the other way. Okay, as I'm holding
[18:36] Speaker 4: her hand in my left hand and my two year
[18:38] Speaker 4: old in my right hand. Just as she started to pee,
[18:43] Speaker 4: that adult male that was black with gray hair, forty
[18:47] Speaker 4: feet away, just down the hill. When he stood up,
[18:50] Speaker 4: he was about up to my knees. But he was
[18:52] Speaker 4: down the hill. He was huge, and that's a ran
[18:57] Speaker 4: so fast and it jumped the giant five to fifteen
[19:02] Speaker 4: hundred pound boulders there. He hit them boulders and they're
[19:06] Speaker 4: moving and he just was gone, you know, skipped over
[19:10] Speaker 4: those things. He probably hit about five six rocks and
[19:13] Speaker 4: they all moved well. Later on the next day, on
[19:17] Speaker 4: the way out, I got in there and I could
[19:19] Speaker 4: jack five point fifty with my legs and gym class
[19:22] Speaker 4: in high school, and I was in perfect shape. I
[19:25] Speaker 4: was twenty one years old that year, I think, and
[19:28] Speaker 4: I couldn't budge none of them rocks that he moved.
[19:31] Speaker 4: So we just picked up everything, packed out, and I
[19:34] Speaker 4: never went in the woods again, unarmed or with people.
[19:38] Speaker 4: I just can't, yeah, from what I saw. Okay, now
[19:42] Speaker 4: many years later, I'm fishing up in Alaska. So we're
[19:48] Speaker 4: sitting in the boat and the elders told me there
[19:51] Speaker 4: was big fit over here, and you know, I'm thinking, well,
[19:54] Speaker 4: I saw one once, but I'm still questioning myself. And
[19:58] Speaker 4: I saw the one when I was twenty one. I'm
[20:00] Speaker 4: really not questioning that anymore, but I'm still like, you know,
[20:06] Speaker 4: still kind of want because it's something you're not used
[20:08] Speaker 4: to seeing. And there's a big griz on the boat.
[20:12] Speaker 4: And up in Alaska, when you go to the beach
[20:14] Speaker 4: where it's pebbles beach, you can just dig one hole
[20:19] Speaker 4: and fill as many buckets and clams as you want.
[20:22] Speaker 4: You know, we get five buckets out a little hole. Well,
[20:25] Speaker 4: there was a grizzly bear stitting there on the beach
[20:28] Speaker 4: eating clams. All of a sudden he sniffs the air
[20:32] Speaker 4: and gets up and not walks away runs. Well about
[20:38] Speaker 4: within four minutes later, a big foot walks out of
[20:41] Speaker 4: the thing, sits in that hole and starts eating clams.
[20:47] Speaker 4: And the elders are like, yep, there he is. You know,
[20:50] Speaker 4: we're on the boat, so you feel pretty safe because
[20:53] Speaker 4: you can leave. It was a big boat. So after that,
[20:57] Speaker 4: the guy is on the boat go, oh, you got
[21:00] Speaker 4: to go to Port Chatham or nice Sport. So it's
[21:05] Speaker 4: about fifty years after that event happened. So and I've
[21:10] Speaker 4: already been into all the villages and I know the
[21:14] Speaker 4: kids and the elders, and they're telling me that story
[21:17] Speaker 4: I'd never heard of until then. And I was probably
[21:20] Speaker 4: twenty twenty one years old then. And so we go there,
[21:25] Speaker 4: and we're on the beach and I'm walking the old
[21:27] Speaker 4: post office. I stand on the dock and I walk
[21:29] Speaker 4: around the tree line. But there I've seen things that
[21:37] Speaker 4: you can't ex science says isn't real. More than one
[21:40] Speaker 4: thing like the UFO thing. I've seen that as a
[21:43] Speaker 4: kid the same year as I saw the Bigfoot, and
[21:47] Speaker 4: I was in my grandpa's living room, which looked over
[21:50] Speaker 4: the whole Salem from West Salem, and I'm looking at
[21:53] Speaker 4: the sky. Now, this isn't Bigfoot related, but some people
[21:57] Speaker 4: say it is. This It wasn't related to any of
[22:01] Speaker 4: the stories I have. I just saw it, so I'm looking.
[22:05] Speaker 4: It's just there's a sliver of a blue moon, and
[22:08] Speaker 4: to the left is two stars, and it's still blue sky,
[22:12] Speaker 4: and it's just starting to get like you know, dim light,
[22:16] Speaker 4: and one of the stars is just brilliant. So I'm
[22:19] Speaker 4: watching it and it just keeps getting more brilliant, more vibrant,
[22:23] Speaker 4: until it comes right into our atmosphere of smoking fire,
[22:28] Speaker 4: and it looks like it's coming right at me, but
[22:30] Speaker 4: it's really six miles away, and it comes down over
[22:34] Speaker 4: the city and it stops, and out of that cloud
[22:37] Speaker 4: a three hundred and twenty five foot three thirty five
[22:40] Speaker 4: foot tic tac silver thing pops out. And I can
[22:45] Speaker 4: tell how big it was because it was across town
[22:48] Speaker 4: and we're on the hill, and I could see it
[22:50] Speaker 4: was three blocks long. So later on I went over
[22:54] Speaker 4: there where I grew up on the other side of
[22:55] Speaker 4: the town and paste that area off was three hundred
[22:58] Speaker 4: and thirty five feet. That's pretty big. And what that
[23:02] Speaker 4: thing did. It was front page news in the Salem
[23:08] Speaker 4: paper and the Oregonian. I think I was in the
[23:15] Speaker 4: ninth grade, so I think it was nineteen sixty nine.
[23:18] Speaker 4: Fifty seven other people saw it, according to the Oregonian,
[23:22] Speaker 4: and fifty two was reported the next day. But when
[23:28] Speaker 4: it came into the atmosphere, it stopped, and then it
[23:30] Speaker 4: went two more places. That's called triangulating. It's what do
[23:36] Speaker 4: you call that, Yeah, triangulating its place in the universe.
[23:40] Speaker 4: It streaked to the other end of the Willamette Valley
[23:44] Speaker 4: faster than your eyes could track it. You couldn't, you know,
[23:48] Speaker 4: you're trying to catch up with it. Then it triangulated again, stopped,
[23:52] Speaker 4: came right back to where it came in, and it
[23:54] Speaker 4: flew out and was gone. But it was in the
[23:57] Speaker 4: newspt and I told my parents and grandparents Sunday. It
[24:01] Speaker 4: was on a Sunday dinner, right before the last day
[24:04] Speaker 4: of school. So I tell them, now I'm going to
[24:07] Speaker 4: get my head shaved. And my dad, I'm not lying.
[24:11] Speaker 4: I'm not backing down. You can beat me if you
[24:13] Speaker 4: want to, I'm not backing down. He says, well, you
[24:15] Speaker 4: have all weekend to think about it, so when you
[24:17] Speaker 4: come over from school, be ready to get your fanny whooped.
[24:22] Speaker 3: You know.
[24:23] Speaker 4: So at school, I'm freaking out because I know my dad.
[24:26] Speaker 4: He's got a good belt or switch, whatever's going to happen.
[24:29] Speaker 3: You know.
[24:29] Speaker 4: I'm about and I'm a kid, so I put cardboard
[24:33] Speaker 4: down my pants. But at school they filled the newspaper
[24:38] Speaker 4: and they go, did anybody see this? And I'm like, oh,
[24:42] Speaker 4: here we go again, and I slowly raise my hand.
[24:45] Speaker 4: You know. So now I'm a hero. At school, everybody
[24:48] Speaker 4: wanted to know what I saw, and I told him.
[24:52] Speaker 4: But on the way home, I'm walking home and all
[24:55] Speaker 4: my relatives are in the front yard and I'm like
[24:59] Speaker 4: two blocks, I can't tell everybody smiling and holding newspapers.
[25:04] Speaker 4: But I'm thinking, oh great. All the relatives came over
[25:07] Speaker 4: to watch Brad get his beating, you know, because I'm
[25:11] Speaker 4: in trouble and I'm going to be grounded all summer.
[25:13] Speaker 4: But when I got there, everybody's I'm never gonna call
[25:17] Speaker 4: you a liar again. My dad's there because it's made front.
[25:20] Speaker 2: Page news, So right, I was, what a wild story.
[25:26] Speaker 4: But that's not even all of it because another time fishing,
[25:32] Speaker 4: and I have parents. As a kid, my mom told
[25:36] Speaker 4: me I was a had second sight, so weird things
[25:40] Speaker 4: have happened, said, my grandma had it, and you explain
[25:43] Speaker 4: what that is? Second sight is he kind of know
[25:48] Speaker 4: when certain things are going to happen. It's not like
[25:50] Speaker 4: you're going to learn the lottery number, but out of
[25:53] Speaker 4: the corners of your eye. I called them shadow dancers
[25:57] Speaker 4: and you'd see a dark figure movement. Well they say
[26:01] Speaker 4: that's a ghost or a demon or whatever. So in
[26:04] Speaker 4: my bedroom, I'm like five six years old, I go, Mom,
[26:10] Speaker 4: there's something in the closet that comes out and it
[26:13] Speaker 4: has dark red green eyes and it's just he goes
[26:16] Speaker 4: and it's just a giant shadow. But the room is like,
[26:20] Speaker 4: you're afraid half to death when you see this thing.
[26:23] Speaker 4: And I seen it, probably four or five times. They're
[26:25] Speaker 4: watching me, and my mom goes, oh, you're dreaming. Put
[26:30] Speaker 4: a night light in there. Night light ain't gonna help. Oh,
[26:35] Speaker 4: Tabith is here. I've got to see her before she
[26:38] Speaker 4: does really good music. Anyway, I see that thing, and
[26:43] Speaker 4: finally my mom goes, just cast it out by the
[26:47] Speaker 4: name of Jesus Christ and buy his blood and by
[26:50] Speaker 4: his stripes, and it was gone. Never saw it again. Well,
[26:53] Speaker 4: now we don't own that house. I went to Alaska fishing.
[26:56] Speaker 4: I'm seventy years old. I come home and I parked
[26:59] Speaker 4: my Maserati in front of the house of where I
[27:03] Speaker 4: grew up, and I go, everything started with a white
[27:05] Speaker 4: Masarati hard top convertible, really nice, and uh, I park
[27:09] Speaker 4: it there to take a picture in the ladies ninety
[27:12] Speaker 4: years old comes out of the house and she goes,
[27:14] Speaker 4: I know who you are. I go, how do you
[27:16] Speaker 4: know who I am? She goes, you're brad you grew
[27:19] Speaker 4: up here. I go, yeah, well, I know everybody in
[27:22] Speaker 4: the neighborhood, you know, And she does, Now I've been
[27:25] Speaker 4: back in you know, many years, and we start talking.
[27:30] Speaker 4: So I get to go look at where the house
[27:32] Speaker 4: I got to grow up and then telling her stories,
[27:34] Speaker 4: and she goes, your bedroom's haunted. You know that there's
[27:38] Speaker 4: a porthole in there. My ex husband did some real
[27:43] Speaker 4: evil stuff in his life, and I'm sure he's burning
[27:46] Speaker 4: a hell now. And he opened a doorway in that room,
[27:50] Speaker 4: and I go, I closed that doorway when I was five.
[27:54] Speaker 4: So that's kind of confirmation of what you know, of
[27:59] Speaker 4: what that memory. You know what I mean.
[28:01] Speaker 2: So sorry, sir, you're saying you closed that as well.
[28:05] Speaker 4: And he opened it by doing whatever evil she was talking.
[28:08] Speaker 4: He opened it afterwards, oh many years later because oh,
[28:13] Speaker 4: so I'm supposed to go back with a priest or
[28:18] Speaker 4: a Catholic. They already did it once, but it's not closed.
[28:21] Speaker 2: So she wants you. She wants you to go back
[28:24] Speaker 2: and do the same thing you did when you were five.
[28:27] Speaker 4: Yeah, but at that time I was hurt, had CFS leak,
[28:32] Speaker 4: been forty years in bed from a concussion and spinal injury,
[28:36] Speaker 4: and I was too weak to try to do anything.
[28:38] Speaker 4: I didn't want to fight that. But now I'm doing better.
[28:41] Speaker 4: So I got it pussion and they told me I'm
[28:45] Speaker 4: going to die, going to put me on morphine. In
[28:48] Speaker 4: ninety one, I spent forty years in bed with migraines
[28:52] Speaker 4: and spinal injury, and then a miracle happened and I
[28:58] Speaker 4: heard I played guitar right knees. I was a fisherman
[29:02] Speaker 4: twenty years in the Bearing Sea. So now I'm in
[29:04] Speaker 4: bed and I quit playing guitar for thirty years, and
[29:07] Speaker 4: I heard the word music. I get up. I could
[29:12] Speaker 4: barely walk to the coffee pot at that point, or
[29:15] Speaker 4: the bathroom, but I get up, walk out in the yard.
[29:17] Speaker 4: There's no one in the house. There's no one on
[29:19] Speaker 4: the hill. It's an old house built in eighteen fifty
[29:23] Speaker 4: three by monks who had a Catholic boys school on
[29:27] Speaker 4: the hill in Seattle. It's called Church Hill by South Park. Okay,
[29:32] Speaker 4: that house was haunted. In the next house I moved
[29:35] Speaker 4: in right after that was built the same year by monks,
[29:38] Speaker 4: and it was haunted too. That's another story. Weird things
[29:42] Speaker 4: have happened to Brad. We're playing Uno there and we
[29:46] Speaker 4: see an old man walked by the dining room window
[29:50] Speaker 4: on the side, walk like four or five feet from
[29:53] Speaker 4: the window, turn right, come right towards the door, walk
[29:56] Speaker 4: by that window. But the space between and the door
[30:00] Speaker 4: in the window is just you know four inches, the
[30:03] Speaker 4: doors wide open. We're playing. You know, I'm sitting right
[30:06] Speaker 4: by the door. We all see the same person.
[30:09] Speaker 3: We all.
[30:10] Speaker 4: I get up and there's no one there. Every all
[30:13] Speaker 4: the kids are with us. They get up, run around
[30:15] Speaker 4: that hole, they go every which way trying to find
[30:18] Speaker 4: this person. And they got We saw a goho. So
[30:20] Speaker 4: that happened a whole bunch of times. But there was
[30:23] Speaker 4: also the dark shadow things that were there, and one
[30:28] Speaker 4: had a hunch back, one was skinny, and it was
[30:32] Speaker 4: I was sick there. They told me I'm going to die.
[30:35] Speaker 4: They put me on morphine. I got clean. I got
[30:38] Speaker 4: off it. They said I'd never get off it because
[30:40] Speaker 4: I was on three hundred and twenty milligrams and I'd
[30:44] Speaker 4: have a stroke or a heart attack if I could
[30:46] Speaker 4: sit up in three number eight delattas, which the doctor
[30:49] Speaker 4: said was equal to twelve grams a day. And you're
[30:52] Speaker 4: going to die. So I lived. I says God has
[30:58] Speaker 4: another plan for me. And it took a year and
[31:00] Speaker 4: a half of withdrawals on top of the migraines and
[31:03] Speaker 4: this mital injury to get clean. Now I'm doing way better.
[31:07] Speaker 4: I'm playing music, writing music, meeting really great people, big
[31:14] Speaker 4: names in the industry put it that way. I got
[31:17] Speaker 4: the zoom call before AI. I was on a zoom
[31:20] Speaker 4: call with Paul McCartney because one of the songs I
[31:24] Speaker 4: wrote were inspired because I saw the Ed Sullivan Show
[31:28] Speaker 4: in sixty four was my birthday, so I got to
[31:31] Speaker 4: stay up and watch that. So I wrote this song
[31:34] Speaker 4: with him in mind. And I can kind of tell
[31:37] Speaker 4: that to you if you forget that. It was like
[31:40] Speaker 4: she was like sunshine on a cloudy day, like a
[31:43] Speaker 4: breath of fresh air in the middle of May.
[31:46] Speaker 2: Is that Do you have that published anywhere?
[31:49] Speaker 4: No, that's what I'm trying to get it patent down.
[31:51] Speaker 2: Before I put you're trying to do it right now? Okay,
[31:53] Speaker 2: that's yeah.
[31:54] Speaker 1: I got a whole bunch of Wow, what an incredible
[31:58] Speaker 1: story you have, just so your entire life is fascinating.
[32:01] Speaker 4: Oh well, I almost got eaten by two grizzly bears
[32:04] Speaker 4: and I think God saved me. Where was that at
[32:08] Speaker 4: up there in Alaska? We were let's see walking. We
[32:15] Speaker 4: were hit the beach in Glacier Bay and there's bear
[32:19] Speaker 4: tracks and moose tracks all over the beach. So we
[32:21] Speaker 4: don't have a gun camera and we're twenty, so we're stupid.
[32:27] Speaker 4: So we're going to follow this creek back in through
[32:29] Speaker 4: this slew and back in to see where the spring
[32:34] Speaker 4: comes out. But it tightens up fielders. The brush is
[32:37] Speaker 4: so close I didn't feel safe, and there were walked
[32:39] Speaker 4: in really quiet. But on the way out we're talking normal,
[32:43] Speaker 4: me and an old man named Tom. And as we
[32:47] Speaker 4: get in the middle of that swamp, you're about ankle
[32:49] Speaker 4: deep in mud, about three inches of water over that
[32:52] Speaker 4: we hear something big getting up forty feet behind us,
[32:56] Speaker 4: branches breaking, and then we hear the roar that just
[33:02] Speaker 4: like the base in a concert. Wasn't as bad as that,
[33:09] Speaker 4: but if that brought fear and you got weak in
[33:11] Speaker 4: the knees and you about just like we're just paralyzed.
[33:16] Speaker 4: Was turned around real slow and looked. Now, we're so
[33:20] Speaker 4: close to this bear that I'm six four and he's
[33:25] Speaker 4: on a little rise just above the swamp, so he's
[33:28] Speaker 4: about four inches higher than I am. But I'm looking
[33:34] Speaker 4: straight at this belly button. We are so close to
[33:39] Speaker 4: that bear, you're inside his head so big his eyes
[33:42] Speaker 4: point out so he and he tilts his head with
[33:46] Speaker 4: one eye, then tilts his head with the other eye
[33:49] Speaker 4: because he can't see us when he looks straight at us,
[33:51] Speaker 4: but he can smell us. And I go, don't move
[33:54] Speaker 4: until he looks away, and then back away slow, and
[33:57] Speaker 4: I'm thinking I'm gonna get eating right here right now.
[34:01] Speaker 4: He roars again that which is oh. I thought I
[34:04] Speaker 4: was going to lose my everything, and held my ground
[34:10] Speaker 4: and he looked down and we started to lay back
[34:13] Speaker 4: down because we didn't move. We backed away slow. Then
[34:18] Speaker 4: he laid down. Well, he was laying on top of
[34:20] Speaker 4: a moose he killed, and all he cared about was
[34:23] Speaker 4: guarding that moose. And we weren't gonna get any closer
[34:25] Speaker 4: to that. But when we got out of that swamp,
[34:28] Speaker 4: I hit the beach, ran through that brush, tripped on
[34:32] Speaker 4: a little thing, and then got off the trail and
[34:34] Speaker 4: I was like a locomotive getting down to the beach.
[34:37] Speaker 4: I didn't stop as ill scraped up, but I didn't
[34:39] Speaker 4: slow down. I picked up a thirty man wooden skiff,
[34:43] Speaker 4: turned it around, pushed it fifteen feet back in the
[34:47] Speaker 4: water where two weeks before thirty people tried to move
[34:51] Speaker 4: that boat two inches on the dock. We had to
[34:54] Speaker 4: use the crane, couldn't move it, but adrenaline. That stuff works. Yeah,
[35:03] Speaker 4: and I have a boat running and back in the
[35:07] Speaker 4: water before Tom got back to the boat.
[35:10] Speaker 2: That's wild, Brad.
[35:11] Speaker 4: That was your first bear thing.
[35:14] Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, you have some incredible stories.
[35:18] Speaker 1: Thank you so much for coming up and for sharing,
[35:21] Speaker 1: you know, your bigfoot encounters, your UAP sited, your UFO sightings,
[35:27] Speaker 1: and everything else you've experienced.
[35:28] Speaker 2: I appreciate you coming up, sir.
[35:31] Speaker 4: I got a whale one for you if you want
[35:33] Speaker 4: to hear it. I got the other bear one too,
[35:35] Speaker 4: if you got time.
[35:36] Speaker 2: All right, let's hear Let's hear two more if you're
[35:40] Speaker 2: willing to share in that.
[35:41] Speaker 4: Oh youah, no problem, Okay. The second time, it's the
[35:44] Speaker 4: end of the season, so it's fall. That's when the
[35:48] Speaker 4: bears are the most dangerous because they're going to eat
[35:51] Speaker 4: anything they can to get fat for the winner. So
[35:54] Speaker 4: I'm with eleven girls in Icy Bay, little cabin, and
[35:59] Speaker 4: the air is a deer trail with the brush cut
[36:02] Speaker 4: down so the wings don't hit the trees when they land.
[36:06] Speaker 4: So it's about one hundred and fifty some yards to
[36:09] Speaker 4: the woods, and we're walking towards where the plane's gonna land,
[36:14] Speaker 4: and we're about three hundred yards from the cabin, big meadow.
[36:20] Speaker 4: Out of the woods comes a big red kodiak. It's huge.
[36:28] Speaker 4: I'm telling my brother, do not do your bear imitation,
[36:32] Speaker 4: because it's really good when people hear it. But compared
[36:36] Speaker 4: to a bear, because I already heard one up close,
[36:38] Speaker 4: you ain't pooh right. So my brother he's not packing,
[36:49] Speaker 4: he's not packing a full six pack, but he won't
[36:51] Speaker 4: do this again. He roars that bear stood up, looked
[36:55] Speaker 4: smell of the wind, and closed within seconds forty feet
[37:00] Speaker 4: from us. And now he's standing out. I go right,
[37:03] Speaker 4: don't run. He's doing the same thing, looking and he
[37:07] Speaker 4: doesn't know where we are because we're not moving, but
[37:09] Speaker 4: he can smell us. So when the bear looked away,
[37:13] Speaker 4: I go you go right, I'll go left. He's gonna
[37:15] Speaker 4: only eat one of us. So right when it looked down,
[37:20] Speaker 4: the first airplane showed up. The guy got eleven girls
[37:24] Speaker 4: standing like sixty yards behind me. They're looking at the bear.
[37:30] Speaker 4: They're not even running. I'd have been running. I guess
[37:33] Speaker 4: I was way closer. So right before the bear decides
[37:37] Speaker 4: he's gonna just come down and close in on us,
[37:41] Speaker 4: the first plane shows up, little bush plane sees the
[37:45] Speaker 4: bear and does a power dive on the bear between
[37:48] Speaker 4: us and the bear scares him back in the woods.
[37:51] Speaker 4: I'm knocking on wood. God saved my rump that day,
[37:54] Speaker 4: you know.
[37:55] Speaker 3: Man.
[37:57] Speaker 4: So that was like another you know, traumatic moment. So
[38:02] Speaker 4: now we'll go to the whale story. It's not it's
[38:05] Speaker 4: more funny than anything else.
[38:07] Speaker 2: So Indiana, I'm supposed to write a book.
[38:12] Speaker 4: I got way more. I got way more. So I'm
[38:16] Speaker 4: on the I'm a welder, fitter, engineer, decand king, crab,
[38:19] Speaker 4: fisherman all that.
[38:22] Speaker 1: So my.
[38:25] Speaker 4: Uh, we're I'm welding because we got the worst skipper
[38:30] Speaker 4: in the fleet and he keeps crashing into the boats
[38:33] Speaker 4: or dock or whatever. And he broke the bow. He
[38:36] Speaker 4: hit on the front port side quarter, you know where
[38:39] Speaker 4: you usually come in and bump real easy. He's crashing
[38:43] Speaker 4: into everything. Because we find out the skipper's shooting all
[38:46] Speaker 4: the coding and the medavat kit he's loaded. You know,
[38:51] Speaker 4: we got rid of that skipper. But anyway, I'm welding that.
[38:55] Speaker 4: And on a ship, you never throw anything into the
[38:58] Speaker 4: wind because it's going to come back on you, right,
[39:01] Speaker 4: So I'm welding and all of a sudden, I get
[39:05] Speaker 4: hit and it's like five in them. I'm welding all night.
[39:09] Speaker 4: It's just barely getting light and skinning light, and I
[39:13] Speaker 4: haven't I'm just looking at my weld and my hood's down,
[39:16] Speaker 4: and all of a sudden, I get hit with the
[39:20] Speaker 4: most rotten, stinky, funky the smelly fish spray and I
[39:26] Speaker 4: tear my hood off because I think the cook had
[39:29] Speaker 4: something rotten. He threw it into the wind and he
[39:31] Speaker 4: got all over me. I threw my hood off, jump up,
[39:33] Speaker 4: and I'm ready to, you know, fight somebody. Nobody's that dumb,
[39:38] Speaker 4: and I'm covered with this stuff and no one's there,
[39:42] Speaker 4: So I'm where did this come from? I'm looking around.
[39:44] Speaker 4: I look down over the ship are I'm on a
[39:47] Speaker 4: three hundred and eighty foot not ship and there's one
[39:50] Speaker 4: hundred foot whale scratching his belly right below me, watching
[39:55] Speaker 4: me well on the barnacles on the ship, scratching the
[39:59] Speaker 4: barnacles off of And I look right up this giant
[40:02] Speaker 4: eyeball look right in it, and I go, hey, buddy,
[40:05] Speaker 4: good morning. You're gonna get flashburn if you keep watching
[40:09] Speaker 4: me well, so he kind of rolls back over and
[40:13] Speaker 4: hits me again, and I'm going, oh, my word, I
[40:16] Speaker 4: know exactly what it smelled like for Jonah and the
[40:20] Speaker 4: belly of the whale. It was back.
[40:24] Speaker 2: That's hilarious, you know.
[40:26] Speaker 4: So that was And I look out and it's daylight now.
[40:30] Speaker 4: So between me and the horizon, there's one hundred and
[40:33] Speaker 4: fifty whales in Bristol Bay all spouting and you know
[40:37] Speaker 4: how they breach because they're back in the feeding grounds.
[40:40] Speaker 4: I go, oh, this is why don't I have a
[40:42] Speaker 4: movie camera? You know, yes, awesome moment. But there's there's
[40:48] Speaker 4: other ones too, you.
[40:49] Speaker 2: Know, so brag what what?
[40:52] Speaker 1: You really should write a book man, that it would
[40:55] Speaker 1: be fascinating. You really should consider doing it. But thank
[40:59] Speaker 1: you so much much for coming up and sharing uh
[41:03] Speaker 1: stories from your life.
[41:04] Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
[41:06] Speaker 4: I hardly ever tell that to those stories because people
[41:09] Speaker 4: think you're crazy.
[41:11] Speaker 2: You know, you should tell them more. You should tell
[41:13] Speaker 2: those stories.
[41:14] Speaker 4: Oh I do I tell them? Do the kids know them?
[41:16] Speaker 4: And everybody? There?
[41:17] Speaker 3: You go?
[41:18] Speaker 4: Man, I got, I got. I'm a storyteller, so I
[41:20] Speaker 4: write music and they're kind of like ballads. There's a
[41:23] Speaker 4: story in each of those. You have a beautiful day,
