[0:00] Speaker 1: So I want to start, you know, with with with
[0:03] Speaker 1: sports fans. So I want to have a sports conversation
[0:05] Speaker 1: if we can, sure.
[0:08] Speaker 2: You where you're at right now? La since rest? You
[0:13] Speaker 2: know what, God not this that.
[0:17] Speaker 1: The level of disrespect that Lebron has received is pretty
[0:21] Speaker 1: historic when you really think about it, right from Dylan
[0:24] Speaker 1: Brooks saying he's the most overrated player in the league,
[0:26] Speaker 1: the dude in Cleveland saying that it's Donovan Mitchell City.
[0:29] Speaker 2: Now, I don't know.
[0:30] Speaker 1: I just feel like this is Michael Jordan when he
[0:34] Speaker 1: was at the tail end of his career playing with
[0:36] Speaker 1: the Washington Wizards. He was They had so much reverence
[0:40] Speaker 1: for Michael Jordan or even Kobe's last season. I feel
[0:44] Speaker 1: like it's just why are the why are people so
[0:48] Speaker 1: disrespectful to somebody that's in the tail end of his
[0:51] Speaker 1: career and has only done.
[0:55] Speaker 2: Great things in the league asking for a friends? Asking
[0:57] Speaker 2: for a friends? You know, you know what's weird this happened?
[1:02] Speaker 3: Well, you got to think about how the history of
[1:05] Speaker 3: the league and Magic and Bird and Michael, they kind
[1:09] Speaker 3: of made it mainstream. So I can't be I can't
[1:14] Speaker 3: make anyone on their villains just yet. I have to
[1:17] Speaker 3: have people fall in love with the story. So Larry Bird,
[1:22] Speaker 3: Mazie Johnson, East versus West, white boy, black guy. Then
[1:27] Speaker 3: Michael flies in the air. So it was marketing more entertainment.
[1:32] Speaker 2: So to speak.
[1:33] Speaker 3: And then now that they got you hooked and they
[1:37] Speaker 3: got good versus evil kind of thing, and whatever city
[1:40] Speaker 3: you're from, I believe that now kind of like reality
[1:45] Speaker 3: show Kardashianis and all the housewives and all this other stuff,
[1:49] Speaker 3: they like drama. So I think advertiser said scratch and
[1:55] Speaker 3: his said, ah, it's an entertainment. Drama sells better than
[1:58] Speaker 3: just the good old keeping everything cool. So when you
[2:01] Speaker 3: go on these talk shows, as far as the sports ones,
[2:04] Speaker 3: I can bash bash bash. Oh that's more ratings, okay, cool,
[2:08] Speaker 3: bash bass Oh that's more ratings.
[2:09] Speaker 2: Okay cool.
[2:10] Speaker 3: Because if everybody say all good stuff, it's boring to
[2:14] Speaker 3: the entertainment world.
[2:16] Speaker 2: That's just my you know, my thing.
[2:18] Speaker 3: And I think that started kind of like late two thousands, right,
[2:22] Speaker 3: so you didn't hear it about Mike or Charles or
[2:24] Speaker 3: Robin kind of thing where it was like everybody's a villain, right,
[2:29] Speaker 3: someone's always saying something negative about only five thousand of
[2:32] Speaker 3: us that ever played this game right.
[2:35] Speaker 2: And then another thing too is it's like you go
[2:37] Speaker 2: to any park.
[2:38] Speaker 3: It's no other sport in the world where everyone thinks,
[2:42] Speaker 3: even when they just know basketball, that they can play
[2:44] Speaker 3: to their level that we played at. There's no other
[2:47] Speaker 3: sport like that, No baseball, no tennis, no nothing. Everything
[2:51] Speaker 3: is man, I get me five or ten on him.
[2:55] Speaker 3: This guy's trash, you know what I mean. And you're
[2:58] Speaker 3: looking like, yo, come on, don That's how it works,
[3:01] Speaker 3: you know, I mean, like, guys are pretty good open here. Yeah,
[3:04] Speaker 3: are we in a scary time for the NBA?
[3:07] Speaker 4: Because I look at the ratings and they say, like, yes,
[3:11] Speaker 4: you know, Christmas wasn't all time high and the ratings
[3:14] Speaker 4: and I'm a fan, a diehard fan, you see. I'm
[3:17] Speaker 4: in my Bulls Derry Rose retirment jacket tonight and I'm
[3:20] Speaker 4: thinking to myself, I can't tell you where the games
[3:24] Speaker 4: are right like, they're streaming everywhere, all over.
[3:26] Speaker 2: The place, which makes it tough.
[3:28] Speaker 4: The other part of it is that and we gotta
[3:31] Speaker 4: be careful with Lebron because he's a mega star in
[3:33] Speaker 4: this space. Curry's a megastar. I put Durant right on
[3:36] Speaker 4: that level. But if we're not careful, we won't be able.
[3:40] Speaker 2: To have another mega star.
[3:41] Speaker 4: I don't who's the next mega star that they can
[3:44] Speaker 4: build that story around.
[3:47] Speaker 3: A great question. I would say, who's my favorite? Who
[3:53] Speaker 3: can be the mega mega megastar? Is Anthony Ewards? His
[3:58] Speaker 3: his character, the way he he's a dog, all of
[4:02] Speaker 3: that is just like phenomenal to me.
[4:04] Speaker 2: About Winby, I don't know if he's a megastar because
[4:08] Speaker 2: see Winby. Listen.
[4:10] Speaker 3: I love Winby, and please I don't want him to
[4:12] Speaker 3: no one to take inside of contest. He's kind of
[4:14] Speaker 3: like he's very French. He's very it's very like snooty
[4:18] Speaker 3: kind of thing. So it's like he he's moody, you
[4:21] Speaker 3: know what I mean, Like he's a moody individual. Now
[4:23] Speaker 3: I love him, right, the guy is on point, especially
[4:27] Speaker 3: at such a young age. But Anthony Edwards has a
[4:29] Speaker 3: lot more character at the moment to be that right,
[4:33] Speaker 3: because you know he's from the hood and he can joke,
[4:35] Speaker 3: but he'll come back at you and it's I mean,
[4:37] Speaker 3: it's just it's just a little something different. Now I
[4:40] Speaker 3: would I would say Winby, yeah, but I haven't seen
[4:43] Speaker 3: his personality. We've seen Anthony Edwards, every phase of him.
[4:48] Speaker 4: I think the interesting part with because I would agree
[4:51] Speaker 4: with you with Aunt, is just that we live in
[4:53] Speaker 4: the world of social media, so it's not just the
[4:55] Speaker 4: onder court things, like the marketing is great, but then
[4:57] Speaker 4: we got the a court things.
[4:58] Speaker 2: I feel like when of the league thought Zion was
[5:01] Speaker 2: going to be that guy, and.
[5:01] Speaker 4: Now we hear the court things when Joe was supposed
[5:04] Speaker 4: to be the guy, then we see the off the
[5:05] Speaker 4: court things. It becomes a little tricky right to say, like, hey,
[5:11] Speaker 4: go support this is going to be the face of
[5:12] Speaker 4: the league.
[5:13] Speaker 2: That's right.
[5:15] Speaker 3: So now think about it, Mike, Charles, Dennis, everybody. This
[5:19] Speaker 3: was no social media, so they couldn't gauge it of
[5:23] Speaker 3: what the fans wanted to see.
[5:24] Speaker 2: More of drama, cleanness, this.
[5:27] Speaker 3: That, and then the league is just starting, so I
[5:29] Speaker 3: can't put all your business out there in the streets
[5:31] Speaker 3: because we need the fans. Now it's NBA is solidified,
[5:36] Speaker 3: so I can because of social media, I can put
[5:39] Speaker 3: that out there if I really want to. Because the
[5:42] Speaker 3: the you know, the the polls are showing that drama sells.
[5:47] Speaker 3: So Anthony Ever's with the baby mama, So this person
[5:49] Speaker 3: with this, this person with d oh yeah, but he's
[5:52] Speaker 3: still playing hard.
[5:52] Speaker 2: It's like it's a lot of fluff.
[5:54] Speaker 3: So, I mean, I think that's why they promoted it
[5:59] Speaker 3: like that, because that's what the world want to see
[6:02] Speaker 3: more as much as they don't want to see it.
[6:04] Speaker 3: They want to see drama, they want to see noise,
[6:07] Speaker 3: they want to see reality show type of stuff also
[6:10] Speaker 3: at the same time. But you know, I me personally
[6:13] Speaker 3: between Wenby and Anthony Evers, I would pick Anthony Evers
[6:16] Speaker 3: because he's maturing slowly, but he's still that's megastar.
[6:22] Speaker 1: So you was a hell of a player in your
[6:24] Speaker 1: in your day, and you know, you came up traditionally,
[6:28] Speaker 1: right like as far as high school, college, NBA, we're
[6:32] Speaker 1: seeing a change and that happen now where Nil has
[6:37] Speaker 1: really changed the dynamic, where like Rick Patino said, he's
[6:39] Speaker 1: no longer recruiting college high school players. Yeah, and you've
[6:42] Speaker 1: got kids that's twenty five years old playing in college
[6:47] Speaker 1: and kids, some kids in college are making more money
[6:51] Speaker 1: than professional athletes.
[6:53] Speaker 2: I couldn't have did it.
[6:53] Speaker 3: I couldn't have did it. I could twenty years old
[6:55] Speaker 3: brom getting six fast, seven figures. I'm out of control.
[6:59] Speaker 3: Were you out of mine.
[7:01] Speaker 2: You're gonna be the mayor. You're gonna be the governor
[7:02] Speaker 2: of Rhode Island. Well man, listen, you hear me.
[7:05] Speaker 3: I'm telling you right now I had boats all just
[7:08] Speaker 3: govern run out.
[7:10] Speaker 2: Do you think that it's ruining Do you think that
[7:11] Speaker 2: it's ruining basketball? I don't let me tell you why.
[7:14] Speaker 2: I don't.
[7:15] Speaker 3: Fam is because this transition happened in the eighties with
[7:19] Speaker 3: NBA players. Okay, there was guys that were drinking still
[7:23] Speaker 3: at halftime or smoking cigarettes and you know, maybe doing
[7:26] Speaker 3: drugs wherever it is. And that's every sport that wasn't
[7:28] Speaker 3: just no basketball. But my point is it was like
[7:31] Speaker 3: it was new money, and it was new environment, it
[7:33] Speaker 3: was new situations.
[7:34] Speaker 2: So it's going to be an ugly little.
[7:37] Speaker 3: Situation that's going on for these college guys getting that
[7:39] Speaker 3: bulk of money in their families and everything like that.
[7:41] Speaker 2: I think it's a blessing.
[7:43] Speaker 3: The silver lining behind it kind of like the Trump thing, right,
[7:46] Speaker 3: The silver lining behind it is someone has to sacrifice
[7:50] Speaker 3: for us, for us to see what we should not.
[7:52] Speaker 3: Do you understand, So as bad as it may look,
[7:57] Speaker 3: it's not gonna stop in il deals, not gonna stop
[8:00] Speaker 3: kids getting paid now, it's already started. So now the
[8:04] Speaker 3: kids in the future will say, Okay, you know what,
[8:06] Speaker 3: I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna get ira, I'm gonna
[8:08] Speaker 3: do this.
[8:08] Speaker 2: I'm on it. I'm gonna live off of two thousand
[8:10] Speaker 2: a month.
[8:10] Speaker 3: I'm gonna do It's gonna they're gonna see it the
[8:12] Speaker 3: Russell Westbrooks of the world of Chris Paul's, the.
[8:14] Speaker 2: Carmelo Anthony's, Lebron James.
[8:16] Speaker 3: You know, you see it become It's not just Michael
[8:20] Speaker 3: and Larry Bird and you know Isaiah Thomas and you
[8:25] Speaker 3: know Magic Johnson. It's a whole bunch of guys that
[8:28] Speaker 3: are businessman now. So it's gonna be ugly for sake. Second,
[8:32] Speaker 3: until it gets to that point where guy's a lot more.
[8:35] Speaker 3: You know, money is money, and let's figure out how
[8:37] Speaker 3: we can make it last.
