[0:00] Speaker 1: Yo, what is up? Boys? How's it going? And welcome
[0:02] Speaker 1: back to another episode of the Rant Cafe Anime podcast.
[0:06] Speaker 1: Today we are talking about anime that we made each
[0:08] Speaker 1: other watch, Recon What up? Welcome in?
[0:11] Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, hello. It's great to be back for
[0:15] Speaker 2: another round of suffering with the boys. But I wouldn't
[0:18] Speaker 2: say it's too much suffering this week because we actually
[0:20] Speaker 2: watched some decent anime.
[0:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, and you recommended Gamers. We're to talk about that
[0:25] Speaker 1: in the second. You recommended Gamers. Jordan the anime dude?
[0:29] Speaker 1: What's up? Man?
[0:30] Speaker 3: Yes, sir, what up? Everybody excited to be here. It's
[0:33] Speaker 3: a good Saturday. I'm happy. Hell yeah, it was a
[0:35] Speaker 3: good week.
[0:36] Speaker 1: And you recommended an anime movie. You recommended The Colors Within, Yes.
[0:40] Speaker 3: Sir, The Colors Within twenty twenty four.
[0:43] Speaker 1: And I recommended a show called Kaiba from two thousand
[0:47] Speaker 1: and eight, a little bit weird. I wanted, I like, what,
[0:50] Speaker 1: I'm recommending anime that is gonna trip recon out. Which
[0:55] Speaker 1: anime do you guys want to start with today?
[0:57] Speaker 3: Well, first we just got to have the disclaimer in
[0:59] Speaker 3: there not be Yes, there was no Blue Eyes in
[1:03] Speaker 3: this series. I was vastly disappointed.
[1:04] Speaker 1: Unfortunately, No Blu was Yeah, we could start with gamers.
[1:07] Speaker 3: I want to hear kind of what Briggs has to
[1:09] Speaker 3: say about that one.
[1:12] Speaker 1: I like it, I like the characters. I think it's funny.
[1:15] Speaker 1: It also sucks. I feel like it's a good anime
[1:17] Speaker 1: that sucks. Does that make sense? So the main character,
[1:24] Speaker 1: he's a gamer, but he enjoys gaming like for the
[1:27] Speaker 1: sake of gaming in a way, like he just enjoys
[1:30] Speaker 1: like the little things, the backgrounds, the synopsises, like he
[1:34] Speaker 1: enjoys the little things with gaming. And then there's this
[1:37] Speaker 1: super popular girl that invites him to a gaming club
[1:41] Speaker 1: and they're super serious. They like they're super serious like
[1:44] Speaker 1: fighting game, then with like basically playing CSGO and trying
[1:47] Speaker 1: to like play competitively, and he just like, no, I
[1:50] Speaker 1: don't want to join, even though like she's super like
[1:52] Speaker 1: most popular girl, super hot whatever, like you you would
[1:55] Speaker 1: think you would love to join, And in his head,
[1:57] Speaker 1: he's like, I would love to join, and then she
[1:58] Speaker 1: says would you like to join? He's like, no, I's
[2:01] Speaker 1: played game for fun. I want to play a mobile game.
[2:05] Speaker 1: And one of like the characters that I really like
[2:09] Speaker 1: is him and that other boy can't remember his name.
[2:12] Speaker 3: I think it's Ouahara or something to that effects.
[2:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, I have a character list here, but they don't have.
[2:19] Speaker 1: It doesn't help. So a'mino is the main guy. Guy, dude,
[2:24] Speaker 1: where the fuck are sorry?
[2:27] Speaker 2: I'm bro just pull out mouth mal or something.
[2:32] Speaker 1: Anyway, the romance between the two guys and them gaming
[2:35] Speaker 1: in the arcade, and even that character's relationship with his girlfriend,
[2:39] Speaker 1: I think it's a highlight of the series. Jordan, what
[2:42] Speaker 1: do you think.
[2:44] Speaker 3: I'm very biased already because I've I've seen this whole
[2:47] Speaker 3: series before, but I will say the start is probably
[2:50] Speaker 3: my favorite part of it. It's a hidden gym if
[2:54] Speaker 3: there ever was one. As far as I think, I
[2:56] Speaker 3: like this series more than most people. But it's like
[2:59] Speaker 3: a love letter to gaming man. There's a lot of
[3:01] Speaker 3: references in it. And then, uh, you know, I'm gonna
[3:05] Speaker 3: go off on a bit of a weird tangent here,
[3:06] Speaker 3: but stick with me because there's three names I think
[3:09] Speaker 3: will kind of dictate my opinions on this podcast. One's
[3:13] Speaker 3: uh Yuasa Yamada and then for this one O Kamoto.
[3:17] Speaker 3: So you know, I'm a pretty big mushoku guy, right,
[3:20] Speaker 3: and I do like the novels for Mushoku. I think
[3:23] Speaker 3: that those are good. But like season one was just
[3:25] Speaker 3: really brought to life. A lot of people say it
[3:27] Speaker 3: was directed really well, and the director for it, you
[3:30] Speaker 3: know Okamoto, this was like his debut or directorial debut,
[3:34] Speaker 3: right was Gamers, and he really just kind of you
[3:38] Speaker 3: just kind of are dropped in the very middle of
[3:41] Speaker 3: everything kind of going on, all the craziness, all the chaoticness.
[3:44] Speaker 3: Right at the very start of episode one. It's like
[3:46] Speaker 3: one of my favorite starts to an episode one. And
[3:48] Speaker 3: then it's like one of my favorite episode ones in
[3:49] Speaker 3: anime because it sets up all the tropes. It sets
[3:52] Speaker 3: up all the cliches that you would normally see in
[3:55] Speaker 3: some type of like sports, you know, competitive thing, Like
[3:59] Speaker 3: it sets up it's gonna be like some type of
[4:01] Speaker 3: esports anime, right, and then it's just not. At the
[4:03] Speaker 3: very end, it throws the old curve ball. It's like, nope,
[4:06] Speaker 3: he's just he's love with gaming at it's at its core,
[4:09] Speaker 3: right that at the very base level, he's just living
[4:13] Speaker 3: his best life. And I don't know, it's it's a
[4:15] Speaker 3: fun series overall. I think it can be a bit
[4:18] Speaker 3: repetitive as it goes on. It is just misunderstanding is
[4:21] Speaker 3: the anime. But a lot of character dynamics that are
[4:24] Speaker 3: kata chaotic and twisty and whatnot. But uh but those
[4:27] Speaker 3: first three episodes man so good, so good.
[4:30] Speaker 1: Again, not really my type of anime. But also I
[4:33] Speaker 1: feel like I did want to watch more and it
[4:35] Speaker 1: did entertain me. It was like you said, I feel
[4:37] Speaker 1: like it might get repetitive, but for the first three episodes,
[4:40] Speaker 1: I think it was fine. And yeah, the guy's name
[4:42] Speaker 1: is Uda Hada or something like that, and Domino the
[4:44] Speaker 1: main guy, and their little romance I liked. But also
[4:47] Speaker 1: Uhara or Tsuku Uhara, his pink haired girlfriend that like
[4:52] Speaker 1: liked him before he like made the transformation into who
[4:56] Speaker 1: he is, liked him like initially was super wholesome. I
[4:59] Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, Misunderstanding is the anime for sure.
[5:03] Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's it's weird because like the character dynamics
[5:06] Speaker 3: as like funny as they are in like a surface level,
[5:09] Speaker 3: because you know, there's a lot of surface level jokes
[5:11] Speaker 3: that are haha, funny, YadA, YadA, I'm gonna in that
[5:14] Speaker 3: first episode, even he doesn't quite realize why at first,
[5:17] Speaker 3: but he's being very true to himself whenever he does
[5:19] Speaker 3: turn down the game club invite, because like, I'm the surface,
[5:23] Speaker 3: you know it, besides everybody else in there being a
[5:26] Speaker 3: main character that's a funny thing in and of itself,
[5:29] Speaker 3: Like the guy that joined with him is like, yeah,
[5:31] Speaker 3: I got amnesia. The only thing I remember is being
[5:33] Speaker 3: really good at that puzzle game. And uh, and the
[5:35] Speaker 3: girls like, you know, I'm trying to save my friend
[5:37] Speaker 3: from the dark side, and other you know, the CSGO
[5:40] Speaker 3: guys like yeah, I was trained from the like from
[5:42] Speaker 3: a young age by my father in the military to
[5:45] Speaker 3: be really good at CSGO. So they're all funny in
[5:47] Speaker 3: and of themselves. But uh, but he's true to himself
[5:51] Speaker 3: whenever he turns that down. And then we see Orhara
[5:54] Speaker 3: in that second episode kind of with his sense of self,
[5:58] Speaker 3: like he's trying to have a new image in his
[6:00] Speaker 3: high school life. He's being very uh, I guess, shallow
[6:05] Speaker 3: and a lot of the things. He's kind of with
[6:07] Speaker 3: the way he's approaching a lot of things. And the
[6:09] Speaker 3: end of the episode where he realizes that like his
[6:12] Speaker 3: feeling his girlfriend's feelings for him were from before those changes,
[6:16] Speaker 3: like they were from whenever he was the side of
[6:19] Speaker 3: himself that he isn't quite as proud of the gamer.
[6:24] Speaker 3: He fell in love with his girlfriend after going out
[6:26] Speaker 3: with her for six months, and that just warmed my heart.
[6:28] Speaker 3: I don't know why that's.
[6:30] Speaker 1: So cute a wild thing to say. Yeah, he fell
[6:33] Speaker 1: in love with his girlfriend once finding out like that
[6:35] Speaker 1: she liked him way before after dating her for six months.
[6:41] Speaker 1: Why did you make us watch this anime?
[6:44] Speaker 2: I just thought, because you guys are gamers, and.
[6:48] Speaker 1: You know what. There are references they played CSCO. I
[6:50] Speaker 1: saw some like mobile game references, some Dark Souls references.
[6:53] Speaker 1: I think some Street Fighter references, little things here and there.
[6:57] Speaker 2: Honestly, it has a lot of gaming references, all that stuff.
[7:00] Speaker 2: That's why it's called gamers. But in general and all
[7:03] Speaker 2: the whole show, it is kind of like pretty much
[7:06] Speaker 2: misunderstandings of the animation mixed in with some gaming references.
[7:09] Speaker 2: But it's not bad.
[7:10] Speaker 1: It's fun. I liked it.
[7:12] Speaker 3: I feel like if you've seen a lot of anime,
[7:14] Speaker 3: the way it like plays around with your expectations of
[7:16] Speaker 3: what is become is is very fun. Doesn't take yourself
[7:20] Speaker 3: too seriously. But like like I said, it sets up
[7:22] Speaker 3: all those things where I would have been down for
[7:24] Speaker 3: an anime that was like an esports anime where there
[7:26] Speaker 3: are training to compete and stuff like. I would have
[7:28] Speaker 3: been so down for that. It sets up what would
[7:30] Speaker 3: have been a pretty cool anime, and then it just
[7:31] Speaker 3: goes a different direction but still makes it work.
[7:33] Speaker 1: So I think there.
[7:35] Speaker 2: Is there is an esports it's a it's a donghold.
[7:38] Speaker 2: I don't know if you want to watch Chinese animation.
[7:40] Speaker 1: But I find it. I'm recommending that for next week.
[7:43] Speaker 2: It's called It's called King's Avatar. I don't know if
[7:47] Speaker 2: you guys watched it, but it is amazing the King's Avatar.
[7:52] Speaker 1: All right, look that up. We might need to watch that,
[7:54] Speaker 1: The King's Avatar. There's a high score girl esports anime. Okay,
[8:00] Speaker 1: I might have to recommend some of these esports anime
[8:02] Speaker 1: next week. What do we do three esports anime next week?
[8:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, it is a Chinese one and I think I
[8:11] Speaker 3: don't know what it is. It's one I haven't seen yet,
[8:13] Speaker 3: so true.
[8:14] Speaker 2: You know.
[8:15] Speaker 1: Also, Tendo English voice actor is the same person who
[8:18] Speaker 1: did mor Attendant m Tempest, and it was tripping me
[8:21] Speaker 1: out the entire series really well, I didn't even.
[8:24] Speaker 3: Know that I feel you Amano is the same person
[8:29] Speaker 3: that does Going Freaks from Hunter Hunter. So, like I
[8:31] Speaker 3: just heard going a lot of the like once you
[8:34] Speaker 3: see that, like you can't un here unhear.
[8:35] Speaker 2: It's so much misunderstandings and this bullshit.
[8:38] Speaker 1: Like you're cheating me, you're cheating on me.
[8:42] Speaker 3: I love how it foreshadows it too, but it doesn't
[8:44] Speaker 3: ruin it, Like it literally says, you know, it's introducing
[8:48] Speaker 3: tendo and whatnot. It's like she's gonna fall. And then
[8:51] Speaker 3: like by the end of that second episode, she literally
[8:53] Speaker 3: like slips on a banana peel and falls or whatever,
[8:55] Speaker 3: and it's like, uh, she fell, and he's like making
[8:59] Speaker 3: fun of am and calling him a loser. He's like,
[9:01] Speaker 3: you know, that loser doesn't understand, like you know, would
[9:04] Speaker 3: just like to have a hot girlfriend. And it's like
[9:05] Speaker 3: later on that that loser is gonna have a lot
[9:08] Speaker 3: of secret meetings with that hot girlfriend. Like it's like
[9:12] Speaker 3: it tells you what's gonna happen, but it still makes
[9:14] Speaker 3: it good, right, like it I don't know, you know
[9:16] Speaker 3: where it's going.
[9:17] Speaker 1: Okay, let's go ahead and talk about the movie that
[9:21] Speaker 1: Jordan recommended. What was it called again The.
[9:25] Speaker 3: Color colors within Keemi no Ero.
[9:27] Speaker 1: So the colors within it was like a high school students,
[9:31] Speaker 1: like a Catholic boarding school or whatever, like a Catholic
[9:34] Speaker 1: school where like it's an all girls school there's nuns
[9:37] Speaker 1: or whatever, and somehow she sees emotions as colors, like
[9:41] Speaker 1: she sees people via I think she's autistic. I don't,
[9:44] Speaker 1: I don't, I don't know. That's what I said. I thought,
[9:46] Speaker 1: I called him. I thought, I thought it like the
[9:48] Speaker 1: first thirty thirty seconds of the anime. But when you
[9:53] Speaker 1: mix relationships and friendships and music with this little thing
[9:59] Speaker 1: where she sees them and people with colors, it's kind
[10:02] Speaker 1: of a beautiful thing. G Recon. What are your thoughts
[10:05] Speaker 1: before I dive into my opinions on it.
[10:10] Speaker 2: Well, I thought it was a decent movie, to be honest.
[10:12] Speaker 2: I like the concept of this girl that can see
[10:16] Speaker 2: colors and can see people's emotions through colors, but whatever
[10:20] Speaker 2: it is, you know, happy, sad or anything. And then
[10:23] Speaker 2: she meets a girl who played music that gives off
[10:28] Speaker 2: and she gived off the brightest color and that's what
[10:30] Speaker 2: attracted to her, That's what she was attracted to the most.
[10:35] Speaker 2: And then they form a band and whatever and they
[10:37] Speaker 2: start playing and then forming friendships and all that. So
[10:42] Speaker 2: it's a simple story, very simple concept. But overall, I
[10:48] Speaker 2: think the way it did it, like the execution, it
[10:50] Speaker 2: was good. Animation was solid. Yeah, but again nothing too special,
[10:56] Speaker 2: nothing crazy. I'm like, yeah, it's like, you know, calm,
[10:59] Speaker 2: relaxing one watching it, like, yeah, that's cool, it's all right.
[11:02] Speaker 1: Yeah, I will say it was. It did drag a
[11:05] Speaker 1: little bit, like it felt a little slow at times.
[11:08] Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, let's let's get this going a bit
[11:10] Speaker 1: because I'm like, I'm liking it, but maybe not like
[11:12] Speaker 1: loving it. But I did have like a nice, heartfelt,
[11:15] Speaker 1: felt ending, a beautiful concert at the end. Some of
[11:19] Speaker 1: the songs were bangers, like. It has a lot of
[11:21] Speaker 1: good things going forward, and I think it's a solid
[11:23] Speaker 1: anime movie. But I will say I did find myself
[11:26] Speaker 1: a little bit bored at times with certain like areas
[11:30] Speaker 1: of the pacing.
[11:31] Speaker 2: That's that's I don't agree where that a little bit
[11:34] Speaker 2: of a boring movie.
[11:35] Speaker 3: Sheer Abacco Last Week is still to my this day like,
[11:39] Speaker 3: but I think one of the most stressful anime out there.
[11:41] Speaker 3: So I had to just think of the opposite I
[11:43] Speaker 3: just watched this movie. Yeah, it's very very relaxed, like
[11:47] Speaker 3: just had a smile on my face, right, wholesome is
[11:49] Speaker 3: not too much drama, not too much of anything really,
[11:51] Speaker 3: So it's just some good music, some good times, et cetera.
[11:56] Speaker 1: Cool but all right, anything anything else? Want to add
[12:00] Speaker 1: recon about colors within before Jordan tells us like why,
[12:04] Speaker 1: I mean he already kind of said why you want it?
[12:06] Speaker 2: No, nothing, it's not really much to add to it.
[12:08] Speaker 2: It's very simple and it's a bit repetitive, but it's
[12:11] Speaker 2: not bad. There's nothing really too much to dive into it.
[12:14] Speaker 1: I think one of the nuns was a highlight character,
[12:17] Speaker 1: like just a solid character, a solid role model, good influence,
[12:20] Speaker 1: like helping her out, helping our main girl out in
[12:24] Speaker 1: like ways that you wouldn't expect a nun to do,
[12:27] Speaker 1: which was nice to see, Like she just cared. She
[12:29] Speaker 1: was just a good person that cared versus being like
[12:31] Speaker 1: crazy strict or crazy religious in certain ways. And her
[12:35] Speaker 1: color was like pure like yellow and gold, which is
[12:37] Speaker 1: nice versus the girl that our main character meets immediately
[12:41] Speaker 1: or initially was blue. And did we ever did was
[12:45] Speaker 1: she ever ended up being able to see her own color.
[12:47] Speaker 3: Or you know, I don't think so no, nothing specific,
[12:52] Speaker 3: but you know, the scene colors thing is, uh, it's
[12:56] Speaker 3: a bit of a weird part tangent kind of the itself.
[13:01] Speaker 3: It's uh. It kind of made me worry a little
[13:03] Speaker 3: bit for the main character. I'm like, oh, that's that's cool.
[13:05] Speaker 3: She's definitely special in some way. But but god, I guess,
[13:11] Speaker 3: let me let me guide you guys down a little
[13:13] Speaker 3: bit of a of a tangent here, all right, Okay, So,
[13:15] Speaker 3: so while I brought up the mushoku director for for Gamers,
[13:19] Speaker 3: this one was directed by Naoko Yamada. So this was
[13:24] Speaker 3: like her kind of original film that she spent a
[13:26] Speaker 3: lot a lot of time on. She spent over a
[13:28] Speaker 3: decade over at Kyoto Animation.
[13:30] Speaker 2: Well did she do?
[13:31] Speaker 3: So the first thing she did, like episodes of was
[13:34] Speaker 3: was clinod But like after that, the first thing she
[13:36] Speaker 3: directed was Chaon so you know that made me think
[13:39] Speaker 3: of Briggs and then uh, after that she directed a
[13:42] Speaker 3: silent voice. So you know, I love the mom silent voice,
[13:45] Speaker 3: but like very much her.
[13:47] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[13:48] Speaker 3: So, like she does some other things, but those would
[13:49] Speaker 3: be the ones that you guys are most probably familiar
[13:51] Speaker 3: with and uh kinski Ushio who did like the music
[13:54] Speaker 3: for this series also did the music for a Silent
[13:56] Speaker 3: Voice and you know a lot of other things. So
[13:58] Speaker 3: it's like very much had that a Silent Voice feel
[14:01] Speaker 3: in some ways, just way less dramatic and serious, but
[14:05] Speaker 3: but yeah, you know it's it's those some of those
[14:07] Speaker 3: same themes of like how sound and music and stuff
[14:10] Speaker 3: affects the relationships between people. And the main character, as
[14:15] Speaker 3: big of a goofball as she is, as much as
[14:17] Speaker 3: she doesn't really fit into any type of typical uh
[14:20] Speaker 3: boxes or anything, she she has that same thing that
[14:24] Speaker 3: I think a lot of people have where they they
[14:27] Speaker 3: it's way easier to see the world and all the
[14:29] Speaker 3: other people in it than it is to look at
[14:30] Speaker 3: yourself and be objective about yourself, right, So, like she's
[14:34] Speaker 3: able to appreciate all these aspects of other people, but
[14:36] Speaker 3: it takes them kind of coming together, forming these friendships
[14:40] Speaker 3: and relationships to kind of bring out that creativeness inside
[14:43] Speaker 3: of her, because she is a very unique little goofball,
[14:46] Speaker 3: Like she cracked me up. She was a bit of
[14:48] Speaker 3: a sweetheart. But I don't know, It's just a cute
[14:51] Speaker 3: little film overall.
[14:52] Speaker 1: It would have been nice. I think a good ending
[14:54] Speaker 1: or an addition to the ending, as like while she
[14:56] Speaker 1: was playing the music, or like even dancing at the
[14:58] Speaker 1: end or whatever, if you was able to like emit
[15:01] Speaker 1: her own color or see her own color, like realizing
[15:04] Speaker 1: who she is or discovering herself a little bit more,
[15:08] Speaker 1: I think at ending like that could have added some.
[15:10] Speaker 3: Value, potentially, potentially, I will say the concert overall banger alright.
[15:15] Speaker 3: It had everybody up and up and moving so uh,
[15:19] Speaker 3: and they'd readd all the songs in like English and
[15:21] Speaker 3: stuff too, So I do like the Japanese version a
[15:23] Speaker 3: little bit more. Maybe that's just because I heard it first,
[15:24] Speaker 3: but like, and I don't like the English lyrics quite
[15:26] Speaker 3: as much. But uh, but they did a good job
[15:29] Speaker 3: in like both versions of like just having a having
[15:32] Speaker 3: the songs kind of be their own thing.
[15:34] Speaker 1: Right, So guys, what did you guys think of Kaiba
[15:37] Speaker 1: two thousand n eight. We're forgetting to write the shows
[15:42] Speaker 1: by We'll do that. Okay, let's do that now. So
[15:45] Speaker 1: for the colors within, I'm gonna give you like a
[15:47] Speaker 1: seven point five.
[15:49] Speaker 2: I'll give it a I'll give it a six.
[15:53] Speaker 3: Okay, what about gamers, I'm gonna I'm gonna give the
[15:57] Speaker 3: Killers within an eight point five and Gamers like a
[15:59] Speaker 3: seven point five seven point five for Gamers based on
[16:01] Speaker 3: those first three episodes, I think price seven or six
[16:04] Speaker 3: point five overall, but like, I love those first three
[16:06] Speaker 3: episodes of Gamers.
[16:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think we'll give Gamers like a seven or
[16:10] Speaker 1: like a six point eight six point nine for like, Yeah,
[16:15] Speaker 1: the first three episodes. I did watch a fourth and
[16:17] Speaker 1: fifth by myself as well. Afterwards.
[16:19] Speaker 3: It was nice, let's go.
[16:20] Speaker 1: I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying it. I like that we
[16:22] Speaker 1: do this every week. I apologize for missing last week.
[16:25] Speaker 1: Life just gets busy sometimes, but we should be good
[16:27] Speaker 1: to go for next week as well, hopefully if you
[16:31] Speaker 1: guys are both available. But Kaiba always available. Hell yeah,
[16:35] Speaker 1: Kaiba childlike animation but like with like some mature themes
[16:42] Speaker 1: and tones or whatever. What did you guys think of it?
[16:44] Speaker 2: Holy shit breaks? This is the most cartoon network as
[16:49] Speaker 2: an anime that I've ever fucking watched.
[16:52] Speaker 1: But it's not cartoon, but it's not childish child all.
[16:56] Speaker 2: This doesn't look like an anime. It looks like something
[16:58] Speaker 2: out of Cartoon Network.
[17:00] Speaker 1: It's a studio madhouse.
[17:02] Speaker 3: I mean, the character designs themselves are very simple. But
[17:05] Speaker 3: because of that, like the animation is a very fluid.
[17:07] Speaker 3: It's kind of like mob Psycho in that way, right,
[17:09] Speaker 3: Like it it looks really good, but yeah.
[17:12] Speaker 1: I want to go before before Jordan goes.
[17:17] Speaker 2: Honestly, to me, this looks like some generic shitty cartoon
[17:20] Speaker 2: network as anime, but it is so confusing, Like half
[17:24] Speaker 2: of the time, I don't even know what the hell
[17:26] Speaker 2: is going on. It's so weird, the animation, everything in
[17:29] Speaker 2: the setting. It's like it's unique, but it's so weird.
[17:33] Speaker 1: It's like we'll say it's a little it's weird but
[17:35] Speaker 1: also a little chaotic in the In the beginning, it's understand,
[17:39] Speaker 1: but it gets a little bit easy episodes go on.
[17:43] Speaker 2: It's like there's people living at the top, like the
[17:45] Speaker 2: rich people at the top, and then the poor people
[17:48] Speaker 2: at the bottom. It's like, what is even going on?
[17:50] Speaker 2: Like why is there like some ranking status of people
[17:52] Speaker 2: living up top in the bottom? Like, I don't know,
[17:55] Speaker 2: it's just so chaotic. It's it's it's wild. It's crazy,
[17:58] Speaker 2: but it's unique at the same time. But I don't know.
[18:02] Speaker 2: I'm not too big of a fan of the animation
[18:04] Speaker 2: in the style because it just reminds me of Cartoon Network.
[18:07] Speaker 2: Like when I'm watching it, it's like I'm not even
[18:09] Speaker 2: watching an anime. I don't know why.
[18:12] Speaker 3: Fair Jordan, So, you know, speaking of directors, I know
[18:19] Speaker 3: this is like the trifecta. This is a director I've
[18:21] Speaker 3: never seen anything from, but I've heard a lot about
[18:24] Speaker 3: because he's very unique in his approach to things ol
[18:27] Speaker 3: Uasa and I've heard it not only like when there
[18:31] Speaker 3: is dialogue it's like very fast, it's almost like hard
[18:34] Speaker 3: to follow even a lot of sub enjoys or like
[18:36] Speaker 3: I had to like maybe watch that at like twenty
[18:38] Speaker 3: seven five time speed that you even catch everything that's
[18:40] Speaker 3: being said. And then there's a lot of times where
[18:42] Speaker 3: like it's not saying anything, it's just showing, and uh
[18:46] Speaker 3: it does not hold your hand, Like I feel like
[18:48] Speaker 3: this is probably most up my alley very the recon
[18:51] Speaker 3: and like for the first two episodes, I'm like, I
[18:52] Speaker 3: have no idea what's going on? Like I So I
[18:55] Speaker 3: did watch four episodes total, and like episodes episode three
[18:59] Speaker 3: I like the lot, and then so four I love
[19:00] Speaker 3: like it. It kind of broke me a little bit,
[19:02] Speaker 3: but uh, so I see how.
[19:05] Speaker 1: Ending of episodes three and that's before is pretty fucked up.
[19:08] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's I feel like it's one of those where
[19:11] Speaker 3: I even knew going in not to like just look
[19:14] Speaker 3: at the literal, to try to like read a little
[19:16] Speaker 3: bit deeper on what it's trying to say, and even
[19:18] Speaker 3: then it's a little bit hard to follow. I feel
[19:20] Speaker 3: like this is one where I'd probably appreciate it more
[19:22] Speaker 3: if I finished it and then like maybe like revisited
[19:24] Speaker 3: like parts of it just to like make sure I'm
[19:27] Speaker 3: fully understanding and following, because there was times when in
[19:30] Speaker 3: those episodes where I like, I catch something and I'm like,
[19:32] Speaker 3: I gotta go back real quick, but like make sure
[19:34] Speaker 3: I'm understanding this right. But uhuh, it's very much shown up.
[19:38] Speaker 3: Tell it's like you.
[19:41] Speaker 2: Have to use your brain fully when watching this.
[19:44] Speaker 1: I'm like I can't.
[19:45] Speaker 3: I can't.
[19:45] Speaker 1: Just our main character or our main guy. He wakes
[19:50] Speaker 1: up with no memories, so he's as just in the
[19:53] Speaker 1: dark as we are to this world and the system
[19:55] Speaker 1: at play. So it's like there's no one to baby
[19:58] Speaker 1: you and kind of like how you what's going on
[20:01] Speaker 1: because our main guy has no fucking clue. In the
[20:03] Speaker 1: same way, we have no fucking clue. So as certain
[20:06] Speaker 1: like you see like the class, the class division, or
[20:09] Speaker 1: like the memories and identity, and like the fact that
[20:11] Speaker 1: people are selling their their bodies off, but like storing
[20:14] Speaker 1: their memories and other things. People are selling their their
[20:16] Speaker 1: sad memories, their happy memories. They have like boxes of
[20:19] Speaker 1: like people's like identities and like souls based not even souls.
[20:24] Speaker 1: I don't know what the word is for it, but basically,
[20:27] Speaker 1: imagine like your body right now, if you could extract
[20:29] Speaker 1: everything that you know and your personality and all your
[20:31] Speaker 1: memories and put in a little like fucking USB and
[20:34] Speaker 1: then like your body is like kind of like expendable
[20:37] Speaker 1: in a way, and then it's like go ahead.
[20:41] Speaker 3: It's like a separation of like both body and soul.
[20:43] Speaker 3: And then also like memories, it's like a trifecta in
[20:45] Speaker 3: air that like trinity that it keeps showing and whatnot.
[20:48] Speaker 3: So it's it's like what is the individual at that time?
[20:51] Speaker 1: Right? It's so technically someone who has a lot of
[20:54] Speaker 1: money could buy bodies and just keeps on living on forever. Right,
[20:57] Speaker 1: And then you see the crazy easy darkness of the world,
[21:01] Speaker 1: how fucked up things get with a system like this
[21:03] Speaker 1: people are kidnapping people, and like, I don't even I honestly,
[21:08] Speaker 1: like the first two episodes watched the whole thing. I've
[21:11] Speaker 1: watched it. I've watched the sentiment before. It's a long
[21:13] Speaker 1: time ago, so I don't really remember it. But yeah,
[21:15] Speaker 1: you have like him trying to figure out what's going on,
[21:17] Speaker 1: and like with his memories, you get the reveals of
[21:19] Speaker 1: the world, but you also there's no like you see
[21:21] Speaker 1: the locket with the girl, so you know there's something
[21:23] Speaker 1: going on with that. But then there's also these like
[21:25] Speaker 1: little along the way, you get these like subplots of
[21:28] Speaker 1: other characters where like this one mom would work really
[21:32] Speaker 1: really hard for like like her sister's kid to like
[21:36] Speaker 1: keep her body, and like eventually she's couldn't keep it
[21:40] Speaker 1: up anymore, and it was a really sad I can't
[21:42] Speaker 1: I don't know if I could describe it well, but
[21:43] Speaker 1: it was really sad, like to see her struggle and
[21:48] Speaker 1: kind of have to like let the daughter go. In
[21:50] Speaker 1: a way.
[21:53] Speaker 3: I didn't quite even know what to make of that
[21:54] Speaker 3: episode and episode three, because like part of it was
[21:56] Speaker 3: like it wasn't her kid, right, so she wasn't willing
[21:59] Speaker 3: to go that extra mile for but.
[22:01] Speaker 1: Like did for a while for a while.
[22:03] Speaker 3: You find that afterwards. Yeah, so it's like I had
[22:05] Speaker 3: mixed feelings on that, but that girl also was willing
[22:07] Speaker 3: to give up everything for and she I guess they.
[22:12] Speaker 3: I didn't like the gradual approach of like they got
[22:14] Speaker 3: rid of her memories prior to those new boots or whatever,
[22:17] Speaker 3: and then she like was willing to like so how
[22:19] Speaker 3: much of that is really her, like even deciding to
[22:21] Speaker 3: sacrifice herself right thereafter, and she's like, yeah, they'll get
[22:25] Speaker 3: me a new body like next week or whatever. And
[22:27] Speaker 3: it's like, no, that that's not gonna happen. You were,
[22:30] Speaker 3: you were fvoting up into that ether. You're part of
[22:32] Speaker 3: a collective. Now it's like a collective up there. But
[22:34] Speaker 3: it's also they still retain that individuality of like they're
[22:37] Speaker 3: still separate, right, So it's a it's a very unique world.
[22:41] Speaker 1: And then our main character ended up with her body, right,
[22:43] Speaker 1: Our main character ended up with her body.
[22:45] Speaker 3: I don't know if that's going to be an ongoing thing,
[22:47] Speaker 3: but Kaiba has like swapped into like a new body
[22:50] Speaker 3: basically almost every episode up to this point. I guess
[22:53] Speaker 3: not an episode four but like, yeah, it is uh like,
[22:57] Speaker 3: we don't even know if the body were starting out
[22:59] Speaker 3: with is the original body, right, I have a theory.
[23:01] Speaker 3: I could be way off here, but like the twin
[23:04] Speaker 3: tails in the uh in the locket, I think that's
[23:06] Speaker 3: probably Kiba's original body. Wow, But I could be wrong there,
[23:10] Speaker 3: I could be wrong. That could just be way off.
[23:12] Speaker 3: But uh, I do know that in that first episode
[23:14] Speaker 3: it was like blurry and then we see like later
[23:17] Speaker 3: on it's not so like the blurry iness isn't literal.
[23:20] Speaker 3: It's like things are becoming more clear as Kaiba like
[23:25] Speaker 3: gains experience and interactions with the world. I don't know,
[23:30] Speaker 3: it's it's a very weird thing. So the world itself
[23:32] Speaker 3: is so unique and interesting and whatnot. And the best
[23:35] Speaker 3: way I think to approach world building is is whenever
[23:40] Speaker 3: you learn about the world with the main character or
[23:42] Speaker 3: alongside them, which I think is the strength of why
[23:45] Speaker 3: we've seen so many amnesic trope or tropes h out
[23:48] Speaker 3: there in storytelling. And then uh, I think isakaies get
[23:51] Speaker 3: too much flack for this as well, because while it's
[23:53] Speaker 3: been overdone as hell, that's a cool way to learn
[23:55] Speaker 3: about a new world. Is alongside that main character, right,
[23:57] Speaker 3: while they also have nothing no knowledge of it, so
[24:01] Speaker 3: a lot of it's kind of brushed or breezed along,
[24:03] Speaker 3: like we're never gonna probably go explore the depths of
[24:05] Speaker 3: every single aspect that uh we see in the show.
[24:08] Speaker 3: It's going so fast. But god, it was interesting. It
[24:13] Speaker 3: was a lot. It was a lot.
[24:16] Speaker 2: It was a lot for me to take in. And
[24:18] Speaker 2: I don't understand ship.
[24:19] Speaker 1: What do you guys want me to do? We'll say
[24:20] Speaker 1: the first episode and a half, it's kind of hard
[24:22] Speaker 1: to understand what's going on.
[24:23] Speaker 2: So and I also watched this on Speed to too.
[24:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, well that one that's hard to watch times. To
[24:30] Speaker 1: be honest, I talked and they show a lot of gume.
[24:35] Speaker 3: I just try to watch to Tommy Galaxy by the
[24:38] Speaker 3: same director, and they say, like they just can't do
[24:40] Speaker 3: it because like they talk so fast that trying to
[24:42] Speaker 3: keep up with like the subs and stuff is too much. Like, man,
[24:45] Speaker 3: some of the stuff that this guy's done, like I
[24:47] Speaker 3: kind of saw it in this. I'm like, I almost
[24:49] Speaker 3: want to turn this down too point seven five times
[24:51] Speaker 3: speed just where I can take it in and like
[24:54] Speaker 3: keep up right because it, like I said, everything happens
[24:56] Speaker 3: so fast.
[24:56] Speaker 1: I tend to be an advocate for like it's okay,
[24:59] Speaker 1: Like I watched the called Within at one point twenty five,
[25:01] Speaker 1: Like it's a slight increase. I think it helped with
[25:03] Speaker 1: the experience sometimes when things are slow. But I will
[25:06] Speaker 1: say with Kaiba with one that I watched at normal
[25:09] Speaker 1: speed because you miss it's hard to keep up and
[25:12] Speaker 1: understand what's going on. Rica watching on two is crazy.
[25:19] Speaker 3: Dude, at that point, it probably doesn't just look like.
[25:22] Speaker 2: I have originally attention span.
[25:25] Speaker 3: By the way, oh, this TikTok generation, man, all these
[25:30] Speaker 3: YouTube shorts ruining people's attention span. I like the slowness
[25:33] Speaker 3: of some of these old anime. I don't watch shorts
[25:34] Speaker 3: unless they're cat videos on Instagram.
[25:36] Speaker 1: But all right, what do you guys want to rate
[25:37] Speaker 1: Kailat out of ten for the first three or four episodes,
[25:40] Speaker 1: whatever you watch. I'll give this.
[25:42] Speaker 2: One a four.
[25:44] Speaker 1: Boo. This one's hard because I don't think I would
[25:47] Speaker 1: give it that highlight rating either. To be honest, I'd.
[25:49] Speaker 3: Probably give it like a six based on these first
[25:51] Speaker 3: three or four episodes. But I can see myself loving
[25:55] Speaker 3: it once I see like the entire package and like
[25:58] Speaker 3: what it's overall trying to say, but it is kind
[26:00] Speaker 3: of just hard to follow on this, so like if
[26:02] Speaker 3: I'm judging just that, like it's hard to have a
[26:05] Speaker 3: complete opinion, right, like even me trying to regurgitate my
[26:08] Speaker 3: thoughts on it, it kind of comes out as like
[26:10] Speaker 3: a mishmash of all these different things because there's so much.
[26:12] Speaker 1: But one I do like the the art style is
[26:17] Speaker 1: because it's such a different like contrast to what's actually happening,
[26:21] Speaker 1: which I thought maybe Recon might like, but clearly not.
[26:26] Speaker 3: It's very fluid, like it is very well animated that
[26:29] Speaker 3: early two thousand's Madhouse or whatever.
[26:31] Speaker 1: But I'll give it. I'll give it like a six
[26:33] Speaker 1: point five out of ten or like a six point
[26:35] Speaker 1: like six ish. Whatever. Do you guys know what you
[26:38] Speaker 1: want to recommend for next week? We've got berzerk Oh
[26:42] Speaker 1: fuck I probed Berserker episode seven or.
[26:47] Speaker 2: On seven No. Six seven e No. Seven eight nine,
[26:52] Speaker 2: seven eight nine.
[26:53] Speaker 1: All right, seven Recon you start off first, for sure,
[26:58] Speaker 1: it was good. Up the story.
[27:00] Speaker 2: It's it's it's a little bit slow for seven eight nine,
[27:03] Speaker 2: but I like where it's going, introducing us a little
[27:06] Speaker 2: bit more to the characters. Costca is still super upset
[27:10] Speaker 2: with Guts because you know there she's blaming him that
[27:14] Speaker 2: Griffith got hurt, and yeah, she's just being that sundery girl.
[27:19] Speaker 2: Is she eats Indury.
[27:24] Speaker 1: I don't know what she is.
[27:26] Speaker 3: She's She's just Costca.
[27:28] Speaker 2: She's you know, I don't know.
[27:33] Speaker 1: She could be a little to ask. Sometimes, she could
[27:35] Speaker 1: be a little bit yon today ask, sometimes a little
[27:37] Speaker 1: bit cool today ask. Sometimes I feel like her her
[27:40] Speaker 1: personality changes depending on who if she's talking to Griffith
[27:42] Speaker 1: or Guts, or what's going on currently in the story
[27:46] Speaker 1: with like from battles is Guts, is Griffith hurt? Did
[27:49] Speaker 1: he get hit with an arrow? Did he like or
[27:51] Speaker 1: did Guts do?
[27:52] Speaker 2: She's stupid, super worried about Griffith all the time. Whenever
[27:56] Speaker 2: he gets hurt, or whenever he's with Guts and he
[28:00] Speaker 2: gets hurt because of Guts, she gets really upset because
[28:03] Speaker 2: you can kind of see the pattern that she really
[28:06] Speaker 2: likes him.
[28:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, so I want to stay here real quick, Ricon,
[28:09] Speaker 1: I like that you pointed out that it's a little
[28:11] Speaker 1: bit slower these episodes kind of building up to stuff
[28:14] Speaker 1: right now, Like at the lasting three, I think Griverth
[28:16] Speaker 1: got like knighted, but now he's become a count. And
[28:19] Speaker 1: this little band of the Hawks, this mercenary group is
[28:22] Speaker 1: kind of making a name for themselves beyond just being
[28:27] Speaker 1: mercenaries but rather people of influence and power. And you
[28:33] Speaker 1: know certain there's certain moments even like Griffith is about
[28:37] Speaker 1: the hit by an arrow and like he like it's
[28:38] Speaker 1: like deflected by the bee Hellett the fucking I think.
[28:43] Speaker 1: So it's building up right now, it's building up. We
[28:45] Speaker 1: have some tool fight scenes, some dramatic moments, but this
[28:48] Speaker 1: is definitely a build up right now.
[28:50] Speaker 2: This is definitely more of a build up. And then
[28:51] Speaker 2: we go towards the Hawks than raiding another castle, and
[28:57] Speaker 2: it's like you see Guts in action and he's like
[28:58] Speaker 2: swinging his sword.
[28:59] Speaker 1: It's so bad.
[29:00] Speaker 2: And then the general in the end, like he just
[29:02] Speaker 2: jumps abandoned ship sails on a raft and they're like
[29:05] Speaker 2: his minions are like take us with your commander, please.
[29:09] Speaker 1: And he's just kicking them off because you survive yourself.
[29:12] Speaker 2: I'm out of here.
[29:13] Speaker 1: So are you liking it?
[29:15] Speaker 2: It's funny as though I love it, man, I really
[29:17] Speaker 2: loved it. I did not think I would like this
[29:19] Speaker 2: but it's really good. Yeah. And then episode nine.
[29:23] Speaker 1: We go back to a little flashback. Can you guys
[29:26] Speaker 1: hear the music?
[29:28] Speaker 3: No?
[29:28] Speaker 1: Okay, good rigne go ahead flashback.
[29:32] Speaker 2: And then we and then in the episode nine we
[29:34] Speaker 2: get a flashback of Zod talking about Griffith's amulet and
[29:38] Speaker 2: it's like it started to get somewhere. And then when
[29:41] Speaker 2: we get shot with a poison arrow, that's when it's like,
[29:45] Speaker 2: that's when I see the reveal. This amulet is protecting
[29:50] Speaker 2: Griffith from death somehow. It's like, I don't know how.
[29:53] Speaker 2: I don't know how, I don't know why, but I
[29:55] Speaker 2: don't know where he even got it from, but it's
[29:57] Speaker 2: protecting him from dying.
[30:00] Speaker 1: I think that she saw a little flashback of someone
[30:02] Speaker 1: giving him the amulet, like an old lady.
[30:05] Speaker 2: Did we I don't even remember seeing that, I think.
[30:07] Speaker 1: So I'm glad. But anyways, yeah, I'm glad. Despite the
[30:13] Speaker 1: old art style, he is li like in Berserk, which
[30:15] Speaker 1: is great to see. Let's go, it's huge.
[30:19] Speaker 3: A lot of the beams of Berserk just happened to
[30:21] Speaker 3: do with uh, with fate and causality itself, right, So
[30:24] Speaker 3: like that's something that was kind of established early on,
[30:26] Speaker 3: and like you said, it's it's like that thing's keeping
[30:29] Speaker 3: him alive right as far as uh walk in the
[30:32] Speaker 3: arrow and things like that, So it's like he's hated
[30:34] Speaker 3: to be alive and in that in that way is
[30:36] Speaker 3: how you I guess you could read that. But uh, yeah,
[30:39] Speaker 3: it's still so early, like we haven't seen anything. It's
[30:41] Speaker 3: definitely in the build up stages at this point.
[30:43] Speaker 2: So yeah, those were taking to build them mm hm.
[30:49] Speaker 1: Anyways, like next week, we're definitely gonna watch UPSO ten, eleven,
[30:52] Speaker 1: and twelve of Berserk, but it's also time for us
[30:55] Speaker 1: to recommend our anime for next time. Jordan, I you

[31:43] Speaker 3: like watched or or read a series, or like how

[31:51] Speaker 3: gonna see if I can find this on my anime
[31:53] Speaker 3: list real quick, just because I'm curious. But on anti

[32:54] Speaker 3: seen it.
[32:54] Speaker 2: So this looks interesting.
[32:56] Speaker 3: I've put it off up to this point, but this

[36:29] Speaker 3: and like there's gonna be more of it.
[36:31] Speaker 1: Ping Pong is goaded, fucking goaded, all right.
[36:36] Speaker 3: I feel like we had a pretty niche selection this
[36:38] Speaker 3: past week between the colors within Gamers and Kaiba, and
[36:42] Speaker 3: I feel like we were like, that was kind of niche.
[36:44] Speaker 3: But let's see how niche we can get. The King
[36:47] Speaker 3: Avatar Ringing Fate was it called? I don't even know
[36:50] Speaker 3: what the like? The one I recommend it is even.
[36:52] Speaker 1: Called ringing Fate, Ringing Fate, ringing.
[36:55] Speaker 3: And then freaking Ping Pong. Oh my god, Okay, I know.
[36:57] Speaker 1: What is rated.
[37:00] Speaker 2: So The King's Avatar has two seasons and it also
[37:02] Speaker 2: has a Netflix Live action.
[37:04] Speaker 3: Maybe King's Avatar isn't niche. I don't know. I've just
[37:06] Speaker 3: never really heard it. I don't know, dude.
[37:08] Speaker 1: Ping Pong the animation is rady at eight point six
[37:10] Speaker 1: y two on mal It's ranked number eighty seven.
[37:13] Speaker 3: The people that watch Ping Pong love it, but I
[37:15] Speaker 3: just I don't know how many people actually watch it.
[37:16] Speaker 2: It.
[37:17] Speaker 3: I feel like it's gonna be like way lower in
[37:19] Speaker 3: popularity than it is, uh ranking.
[37:21] Speaker 1: I wonder, So sixteen thousand people favored it scored by
[37:26] Speaker 1: almost two hundred thousand users. Okay, not bad. I don't
[37:31] Speaker 1: know it just there.
[37:33] Speaker 3: It's like number six hundred in popularity, but it's like
[37:35] Speaker 3: number eighty something in rank for score, so like on
[37:38] Speaker 3: my anime list. So yeah, No, I've heard nothing but
[37:41] Speaker 3: great things about this. When I'm excited, I'm just avoided
[37:43] Speaker 3: up to this point.
[37:44] Speaker 1: No, dude, it is because you asked. It's good, Dude,
[37:47] Speaker 1: it's fucking good.

[38:03] Speaker 3: Okay, I've seen like twenty shows that probably sound very similar. Yeah,
[38:06] Speaker 3: I think I know what you're talking about, and I
[38:09] Speaker 3: like because it is the Chinese one, right, and I
[38:10] Speaker 3: have not seen that one.
[38:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's also another top top tier Chinese animation.
[38:15] Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I might recommend that next time.
[38:18] Speaker 1: I thought I watched it and then I realized I
[38:19] Speaker 1: didn't watch it, watch it. I don't know what. I
[38:21] Speaker 1: watched a different Chinese anime with a different immortal.
[38:25] Speaker 3: There's like thirty anime with titles very similar to that.
[38:29] Speaker 1: Okay, like if you read the Immortal King, Oh yeah,
[38:38] Speaker 1: go ahead, Sorry my bad.
[38:39] Speaker 3: No, no, I was just gonna say, like, if you
[38:41] Speaker 3: ran it through a test that like said how similar
[38:44] Speaker 3: those titles are, the scores would be very high. So
[38:46] Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of what it's called the test,
[38:48] Speaker 3: but it's not important.
[38:51] Speaker 1: Fair anyway, Sorry, I just had had to click something
[38:55] Speaker 1: for the For the recording, I hadn't mute to myself,

[39:21] Speaker 3: And here he said, I wanna watch the whole thing.
[39:23] Speaker 3: Recon is gonna love it. Is some high bars your setting, Breeze.
[39:27] Speaker 1: I know, I'm I. I don't want to overhype it,
[39:29] Speaker 1: but I think I watching over a nine out of ten.
[39:33] Speaker 2: I'm watching because I'm genuinely so invested in, like what
[39:37] Speaker 2: is going on. Yeah, the animation, I don't know about that. Chief.
