[0:00] Speaker 1: What is up, boys, how's it going? And welcome back
[0:02] Speaker 1: to another episode of the rat Cafe Anime Podcast. Today
[0:05] Speaker 1: it's just me and the Anime dude talking about my
[0:09] Speaker 1: top one hundred favorite anime. I made a list a
[0:12] Speaker 1: while back, and we're gonna go through it together. What's up, Jordan,
[0:15] Speaker 1: what's up?
[0:15] Speaker 2: Everybody? Happy to be here? And yeah, I just wanted
[0:18] Speaker 2: to look over what Briggs had here for us in
[0:20] Speaker 2: the top one hundred of his and roasted to hell
[0:23] Speaker 2: if we can, or you know, maybe maybe maybe not
[0:25] Speaker 2: just depending.
[0:26] Speaker 1: Yeah, praise some picks, roast some picks, but also if
[0:29] Speaker 1: you're looking for some anime recommendations, this is my top
[0:31] Speaker 1: one hundred. I've probably seen easily three to four hundred
[0:34] Speaker 1: different anime, so this is these were my favorites.
[0:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, we need to get you to lay those all
[0:41] Speaker 2: out at some point. I'm curious how many you actually
[0:43] Speaker 2: have seen. Three four hundred probably sounds about right, but
[0:47] Speaker 2: there's a chance you've seen more than me.
[0:49] Speaker 1: I don't think I've seen more than you. But at
[0:51] Speaker 1: the same time, I do watch anime on stream like
[0:54] Speaker 1: for like pretty much like not daily anymore, but for
[0:56] Speaker 1: a long time I was watching it daily, like I
[0:58] Speaker 1: was going through like multiple shows a week for a while.
[1:03] Speaker 2: Oh man, I see some quality ones on here, So
[1:07] Speaker 2: I mean, do we want to just hop right into it?
[1:09] Speaker 1: Or yeah? I mean caneez? Che is my number one,
[1:11] Speaker 1: It'll always be my number one. What you have to
[1:15] Speaker 1: say about that.
[1:16] Speaker 2: Shorten, I guess are the rest of these in order?
[1:19] Speaker 1: Or I think my first ten or in order? And
[1:23] Speaker 1: after that it's kind of like kind of I don't know.
[1:27] Speaker 1: I feel like it's in the right area but not
[1:29] Speaker 1: perfect order, if that makes sense.
[1:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, Caneechee is great. If anybody hasn't
[1:36] Speaker 2: seen that yet, I know Briggs preaches about it all
[1:38] Speaker 2: the time. I've seen it a couple times myself. I've
[1:42] Speaker 2: read like five hundred chapters or so. I need to
[1:44] Speaker 2: finish reading it at some point. But the manga is
[1:46] Speaker 2: coming back, right, so that's cause for excitement.
[1:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, I do. I've been rewatching the anime for the
[1:54] Speaker 1: probably twentieth time on string, and I will say it's
[1:57] Speaker 1: definitely different watching it when you're twenty eight years old
[2:00] Speaker 1: about to be twenty nine versus when you're fourteen fifteen
[2:03] Speaker 1: years old when I watched it. But at the same time.
[2:06] Speaker 1: I do think like the comedy holds up, the overall
[2:08] Speaker 1: story holds up. Sometimes the animation it does feel a
[2:12] Speaker 1: little bit dated, but if you could get over that,
[2:14] Speaker 1: it's I think it's a great story. It's a true
[2:16] Speaker 1: underdog story. And if you're in your younger years and
[2:18] Speaker 1: you're a dude, I just think it'll it'll actually motivate you.
[2:22] Speaker 1: I don't know, Canetzche is this underdog character and just
[2:26] Speaker 1: seeing him with no talent, like overcome all these obstacles
[2:29] Speaker 1: just through like hard work and determination. I watched it
[2:31] Speaker 1: at the perfect time of my life, and I think
[2:34] Speaker 1: because of those personal reasons, it will forever be my
[2:36] Speaker 1: number one.
[2:38] Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it is.
[2:40] Speaker 2: It is definitely a very you show. It's really love
[2:43] Speaker 2: to see it. I could definitely see it being like
[2:46] Speaker 2: somebody's number one for those personal reasons, and yeah, it
[2:50] Speaker 2: is one of the most motivational shows I think I've
[2:52] Speaker 2: seen out there as well. So I also watched it
[2:54] Speaker 2: around that point my life. Very biased nostalgia wise for it,
[2:58] Speaker 2: but I do think it holds up well well if
[3:01] Speaker 2: people are willing to give it the time. A lot
[3:04] Speaker 2: of those mid two thousand shows are going to have
[3:06] Speaker 2: some animation issues. Like you said, maybe it can use
[3:08] Speaker 2: like a remake or something in that department, But even
[3:10] Speaker 2: if we're just talking the manga, like the story itself,
[3:13] Speaker 2: it it holds up. I think in a lot of
[3:16] Speaker 2: ways it is one of those true underdog stories that
[3:18] Speaker 2: takes its time.
[3:19] Speaker 3: It's not.
[3:22] Speaker 2: It doesn't rush things, and then a lot of shown
[3:25] Speaker 2: it out there. You know, they want the main character
[3:27] Speaker 2: to be a chosen one of some kind or have
[3:29] Speaker 2: some type of super secret hidden power hidden within him.
[3:33] Speaker 2: With Knichi, no, it's just all hard work and just
[3:37] Speaker 2: consistency on the on the daily grind right, and just
[3:39] Speaker 2: really good teachers that help him to guide them along
[3:42] Speaker 2: that path.
[3:42] Speaker 1: So I think you you bring up a really good point. Jordan,
[3:47] Speaker 1: Oh my god, I can't speak today. I think you
[3:48] Speaker 1: can bring up a really good point. I think I
[3:51] Speaker 1: have an issue a lot of times with newer anime
[3:53] Speaker 1: where it's just like right away instant gratification. He's the best,
[3:57] Speaker 1: he gets all the girls, he's got OPI powers. It's funny.
[4:02] Speaker 1: Sometimes with comedy it works well, but with like a
[4:04] Speaker 1: normal story, I miss that, Like original underdog story, which
[4:09] Speaker 1: is a good segue into number three, which is Hojia
[4:11] Speaker 1: Mayo Epo, we don't need to go in perfect order.
[4:13] Speaker 2: Had No.
[4:13] Speaker 1: Epo is another Don't get me wrong, He's a hard puncher.
[4:16] Speaker 1: He has some things going in his favor genetically maybe,
[4:19] Speaker 1: but for the most part, it's again just I don't
[4:22] Speaker 1: want to stand nobody, but just a normal kid that
[4:25] Speaker 1: works really hard to achieve his goals and yeah, becomes
[4:29] Speaker 1: this over the top like Kenichi becomes this eventually becomes
[4:33] Speaker 1: a master or close to a master, equal, becomes the
[4:36] Speaker 1: the the champion of Japan and so so on and
[4:40] Speaker 1: so forth.
[4:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean even within the universe of EPO, we
[4:45] Speaker 2: get a character that is just kind of a physical
[4:48] Speaker 2: freak that you know, he he still works hard. Of
[4:51] Speaker 2: course too, I'm not gonna put anything down the work
[4:53] Speaker 2: he's put in, but we get Takamora there as like
[4:55] Speaker 2: a bit of a comparison. Yeah, and you know, EPO's
[5:00] Speaker 2: not necessarily in that same breath. As far as talent,
[5:02] Speaker 2: he's just a very earnest worker. That's uh, very by
[5:05] Speaker 2: the book, very uh. I don't know it as the
[5:09] Speaker 2: old school grindset where if his coach tells him to
[5:11] Speaker 2: do something, he's gonna probably go overboard, overboard trying to
[5:14] Speaker 2: do that and then uh yeah, that combined with just
[5:18] Speaker 2: the physical way he's built his body up from working
[5:22] Speaker 2: since childhood right helping out with his parents' business and stuff,
[5:25] Speaker 2: it all just kind of works out into a into
[5:27] Speaker 2: a great series.
[5:28] Speaker 3: So natural growth over a very long time, dude.
[5:32] Speaker 1: I remember when I was like really young getting into
[5:35] Speaker 1: these anime and I think I watched Caneche and I'm like,
[5:37] Speaker 1: anime like Canechian Equo came up like it when I
[5:40] Speaker 1: googled it, and I watched those two anime and I
[5:43] Speaker 1: remember watching hdrenle Evil episodes and like lifting weights during
[5:46] Speaker 1: the opening every opening, I would do a set because
[5:48] Speaker 1: it would get me the show. We get me so
[5:49] Speaker 1: fired up. And like I was like a pretty like
[5:53] Speaker 1: scrawny dude in you know, elementary school, and I remember
[5:56] Speaker 1: like going to high school. I was athletic, like I
[5:58] Speaker 1: played sports, but I was a little like in intimidated
[6:00] Speaker 1: to join the sports teams. Obviously, like a lot of
[6:02] Speaker 1: the teams for varsity, like with like fucking seventeen year olds.
[6:05] Speaker 1: I'm fourteen fifteen at the time, and I remember watching
[6:08] Speaker 1: Kenegian epuh, and I was like, fuck it, I'm doing it,
[6:10] Speaker 1: and I really do like it's kind of crazy that
[6:12] Speaker 1: some of these anime kind of changed the trajectory of
[6:16] Speaker 1: like of those years or even your life. Right.
[6:19] Speaker 2: Well, they say hard work beats talent when talent doesn't
[6:21] Speaker 2: work hard, and I feel like anime just kind of
[6:24] Speaker 2: reinforces that mindset and do you There's a lot of
[6:28] Speaker 2: other shows out there where I don't know, it's easy
[6:31] Speaker 2: to write like a plot line where things just kind
[6:33] Speaker 2: of work out because they work out. But anime main
[6:37] Speaker 2: characters in general always had a thing where they want
[6:39] Speaker 2: to work harder, they want to earn it. They and
[6:42] Speaker 2: a few shows speak better that to that than kenetcheean Epo.
[6:45] Speaker 3: Right. So I was kind of that same way as
[6:47] Speaker 3: a kid.
[6:47] Speaker 2: I remember, I think it was like third or fourth grade.
[6:49] Speaker 2: I had a bit of a wake up call for
[6:51] Speaker 2: how scronny I was, where I was always a straight
[6:53] Speaker 2: A student and then one year I just I failed pe.
[6:56] Speaker 2: I couldn't do the pushups and I didn't fail. I
[6:58] Speaker 2: got like a d on like a test or we
[7:00] Speaker 2: had to do push ups and stuff. So I would
[7:03] Speaker 2: watch Dragon Ball Z after that and just do like
[7:06] Speaker 2: push ups. Yeah, like they're at home and stuff until
[7:08] Speaker 2: I could. So sometimes you just need that wake up call.
[7:13] Speaker 1: GTO is my number three, and GTO, I don't know.
[7:18] Speaker 1: I think it has it's aged. It hasn't aged the
[7:23] Speaker 1: best upon Rewatch, but it's still fricking good, especially if
[7:27] Speaker 1: you give it a few episodes.
[7:29] Speaker 2: It was kind of wild I rewatch, but but like
[7:33] Speaker 2: you said, at its core, it still has a lot
[7:35] Speaker 2: of really good messages to it. It's a coming of
[7:39] Speaker 2: age story both for the for the mentor and for
[7:43] Speaker 2: the mentees, where he's kind of learning alongside them in
[7:46] Speaker 2: different aspects, and we see that a little bit Neapo
[7:49] Speaker 2: as well. Right like a really good teacher student relationship.
[7:53] Speaker 2: The students learn a lot, but also the teacher is
[7:54] Speaker 2: going to be learning along with them. Right Onizuka, is
[7:57] Speaker 2: that wise fool that east young kid just got out
[8:01] Speaker 2: of college still has a lot to learn, but he
[8:03] Speaker 2: imparked some good lessons there over the course of the
[8:06] Speaker 2: series as well.
[8:06] Speaker 1: So Yo, I could say it now, I could actually
[8:09] Speaker 1: finally say it. So for a while I was full
[8:12] Speaker 1: time content creator, and then I got a new job,
[8:14] Speaker 1: and I didn't really want to say it because I
[8:18] Speaker 1: got a teacher's position. So I've been teaching for the
[8:20] Speaker 1: last like seven eight months, and I didn't want to
[8:22] Speaker 1: reveal it on stream in case I wanted to continue
[8:25] Speaker 1: down that path. But I've decided I'm not fucking teaching
[8:27] Speaker 1: no more, so I could, Like I was just worried
[8:30] Speaker 1: because obviously like being a teacher and working with kids
[8:33] Speaker 1: and also being a content creator do not go. They
[8:36] Speaker 1: do not go at all. So like now that I'm
[8:40] Speaker 1: maybe gonna be going down a new career path and
[8:42] Speaker 1: probably not teaching next year, I could finally talk about it.
[8:45] Speaker 1: And it's so true, like learning alongside the students together
[8:51] Speaker 1: is like whether it be actual concepts or just lessons
[8:54] Speaker 1: in general. GTO is really really good and it's kind
[8:58] Speaker 1: of reminded me of that I can relate all three
[9:00] Speaker 1: of these top three anime to like my life, and
[9:02] Speaker 1: maybe that's why they're so good. They're very they can
[9:04] Speaker 1: be relatable without being a self insert turned overpowered.
[9:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like.
[9:10] Speaker 2: GTO is one of those where it kind of depends
[9:12] Speaker 2: on what point you want in your time or what
[9:14] Speaker 2: point in your life you watch it too, because I
[9:16] Speaker 2: do remember I watched it pretty young, and I'm like, man,
[9:18] Speaker 2: this guy, this guy does have a lot of good
[9:20] Speaker 2: lessons and stuff. Then I watched it again like around
[9:22] Speaker 2: the end of college and whatnot, and I was like, God,
[9:25] Speaker 2: this guy's kind of an idiot, but he has some
[9:27] Speaker 2: good points, right. So it's one of those things where, yeah,
[9:31] Speaker 2: at what point in your life are you? And then
[9:33] Speaker 2: you kind of relate more to maybe that teacher side,
[9:35] Speaker 2: whereas when you're a kid, it's like teachers feel like
[9:37] Speaker 2: they know everything right.
[9:38] Speaker 3: And then then you.
[9:39] Speaker 2: Watch How I About your Mother. You see he's trying
[9:41] Speaker 2: to write on the board. He's like professor, So I
[9:43] Speaker 2: have like one F two fs.
[9:46] Speaker 1: Oh my god, dude, I hate writing on the board.
[9:49] Speaker 1: I feel like I could do stuff on pen and
[9:51] Speaker 1: papers so easily. You go to write on the board,
[9:53] Speaker 1: you're like you like especially my first week, my first
[9:55] Speaker 1: week teaching, Oh my goodness, I made so many mistakes.
[9:58] Speaker 1: And then eventually, once nerves kind of go away, it's
[10:01] Speaker 1: just like it's like anything else, right, right, what age
[10:04] Speaker 1: group were you teaching? Bergo? I was teaching grade nines
[10:07] Speaker 1: and tens, and now I'm actually teaching a grade twelve universe,
[10:10] Speaker 1: a grade twelve economics class, which is cool, nice, nice, Yeah,
[10:14] Speaker 1: But anyway, let's get back into anime. Gto. It could
[10:18] Speaker 1: be pretty weird at times, but only Zuka is a
[10:21] Speaker 1: badass character, and there's some good lessons, some good relationships
[10:25] Speaker 1: within the series between like teacher and student in a
[10:28] Speaker 1: wholesome way, not in a weird way. Stein's Gate, Stein's
[10:33] Speaker 1: Gate number four, which is just Stein's Gate. I think
[10:36] Speaker 1: apiod eleven through like twenty five is just genuinely my
[10:39] Speaker 1: favorite episodes in all of animes, episodes in general.
[10:42] Speaker 2: I feel you, episodes one through ten my favorite episodes
[10:45] Speaker 2: in anime, just episodes in general. Just you know the ending,
[10:51] Speaker 2: Wait say that again?
[10:51] Speaker 1: Say that again?
[10:54] Speaker 2: Jokes aside, I was saying episodes one through ten are
[10:56] Speaker 2: my favorite. Honestly, all of Steinsgate is so good. It's
[11:01] Speaker 2: another solid pick here. I don't really like time travel
[11:03] Speaker 2: stuff a lot of the time because it's so hard
[11:05] Speaker 2: to do, but it can be very good if done well.
[11:08] Speaker 2: And I've never seen a series do it quite as
[11:10] Speaker 2: well as as that original Steinsgate season right, it really
[11:13] Speaker 2: like but wraps it up in like a bow and
[11:15] Speaker 2: has like a perfect loop there, and it just it
[11:18] Speaker 2: just works right.
[11:18] Speaker 1: So well said well, said Jordan.
[11:21] Speaker 2: I haven't seen zero or the movie, though I need
[11:23] Speaker 2: to do that at something.
[11:24] Speaker 1: You should watch both. You're not as good, but they're
[11:27] Speaker 1: still good. One Piece for obvious reasons.
[11:34] Speaker 2: All my homies hate One Piece probably right, No, no,
[11:38] Speaker 2: I mean.
[11:39] Speaker 1: This is an anime list. I couldn't put it like,
[11:41] Speaker 1: I don't know, like One Piece of my favorite manga.
[11:43] Speaker 1: I love One Piece so much, but the anime has
[11:45] Speaker 1: its issues.
[11:47] Speaker 2: But you know, I still enjoy the anime. Like I said,
[11:50] Speaker 2: I've seen it a couple of times. I think there's
[11:51] Speaker 2: some scenes it probably does better. It just feels the
[11:55] Speaker 2: voice acting and everything adds to it. The soundtrack kind
[11:58] Speaker 2: of adds to it. And I've all recently been trying
[12:01] Speaker 2: to watch through one Pace to see you like kind
[12:02] Speaker 2: of how that differs, And uh, I'm enjoying that too,
[12:05] Speaker 2: so solid.
[12:06] Speaker 1: Do you think people really hate on one Pace? But
[12:08] Speaker 1: I love it.
[12:09] Speaker 2: I've only watched it through to like Little Garden, so
[12:14] Speaker 2: like I've only just now gotten into the grand line
[12:17] Speaker 2: like casually watching through every now and again. But I've
[12:19] Speaker 2: really enjoyed. I've really enjoyed it.
[12:22] Speaker 3: I like how they.
[12:24] Speaker 2: I don't know, I can see it being difficult to
[12:26] Speaker 2: maybe adapt some recent stuff where like animators go above
[12:29] Speaker 2: and beyond, trying to flesh it out in like a
[12:30] Speaker 2: creative way. So it's uh, you know, they they have
[12:33] Speaker 2: that thing where they'll put out like a episode where
[12:35] Speaker 2: that's cut, and then they'll have like the extended cut,
[12:36] Speaker 2: and I get where there's maybe some debate there, but
[12:41] Speaker 2: for a lot of things, it's I don't know, it
[12:43] Speaker 2: just feels like such a straightforward it's not gonna be
[12:48] Speaker 2: perfect because it's not like the you know, it's not
[12:50] Speaker 2: like directed or in that way. It's not meant to
[12:53] Speaker 2: be that way. But it's them trying to portray whether
[12:56] Speaker 2: the manga is right without somebody having to go through
[12:58] Speaker 2: all the fluff of like of time period when it
[13:00] Speaker 2: was made.
[13:01] Speaker 3: So I've enjoyed it. I've enjoyed it a lot.
[13:04] Speaker 2: I like the Brati arc where instead of including the
[13:07] Speaker 2: scene where Zeph cuts off his leg in the anime,
[13:11] Speaker 2: they just took that out and it kind of implies
[13:14] Speaker 2: what the manga did, right, he catalyzed his own legs,
[13:16] Speaker 2: so it's just in order to live there, so frozen
[13:21] Speaker 2: cons I don't I don't think it replaces, you know,
[13:25] Speaker 2: just the manga and its entirety, but it's it's a
[13:27] Speaker 2: dang good like alternative. I think.
[13:29] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[13:30] Speaker 2: It's nice to have around. I appreciate that people put
[13:32] Speaker 2: the effort into it.
[13:33] Speaker 1: I just my biggest thing is one Piece became unwatchable.
[13:36] Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'll say it. One Piece became unwatchable. It
[13:39] Speaker 1: like it was so good and then with it got
[13:42] Speaker 1: worse and worse and worse in regards to the pacing
[13:45] Speaker 1: that I don't care. I could see that one pace
[13:48] Speaker 1: can be jarring at times with how it makes its
[13:50] Speaker 1: cuts and maybe cuts out some things where the anime
[13:52] Speaker 1: actually enhances the series. For sure, there are moments where
[13:56] Speaker 1: one pace is worse. But for me, I could one
[14:00] Speaker 1: Piece of my favorite Mango of all time and one
[14:02] Speaker 1: of my favorite animes of all time, and for me,
[14:04] Speaker 1: it actually became unwatchable. I couldn't do it. It was
[14:06] Speaker 1: fucking it, dude. It was twenty minute episode, but ten
[14:10] Speaker 1: minutes of recaps and opening and then one fight scene
[14:13] Speaker 1: that I already read in the manga, by the way,
[14:16] Speaker 1: is just like wow, why is this? Why is this
[14:17] Speaker 1: lasting multiple episodes? I personally was starting to get frustrated,
[14:22] Speaker 1: So for me, rewatching and like letting the anime get Ahead.
[14:25] Speaker 1: One Pace is just a way more enjoyable experience. While
[14:28] Speaker 1: I will admit sometimes it can cut some things out
[14:32] Speaker 1: or maybe have some weird cuts where it's transitioning, because
[14:36] Speaker 1: it's just trying to follow what's canon and what's in
[14:38] Speaker 1: the source material. It's not perfect, but personally I am
[14:42] Speaker 1: a big fan of one Pace.
[14:44] Speaker 2: I appreciate it, and that's why I wanted to throw
[14:46] Speaker 2: the caveat on there that I've only seen so much
[14:48] Speaker 2: of it, right because I watched the original anime up
[14:51] Speaker 2: till Dress Rosa, and then that was around the point
[14:53] Speaker 2: where I was like, I can't hardly do this anymore.
[14:56] Speaker 2: It was so filler or just fluffed out for those
[15:01] Speaker 2: like one hundred episodes for like to adapt one hundred chapters,
[15:03] Speaker 2: I'm like I and a lot of times I felt
[15:06] Speaker 2: like I was watching like maybe five minutes of content
[15:07] Speaker 2: and like a twenty minute episode. So it uh.
[15:11] Speaker 1: I also was specifically tough, not because there was so
[15:14] Speaker 1: much filler, It was almost just because it would have
[15:17] Speaker 1: took on a really a really challenging arc where he
[15:22] Speaker 1: had so many different moving parts. There were so many
[15:25] Speaker 1: different moving parts, so even just having a little bit
[15:27] Speaker 1: of pacing issues with the anime once they adapted the manga,
[15:31] Speaker 1: a little bit of pacing issues, a little bit of filler,
[15:34] Speaker 1: and just a little bit of that on top of
[15:37] Speaker 1: what was already an ambitious concept made it terrible, but
[15:42] Speaker 1: among it's funny. I rewatched the mall, I reread the manga.
[15:45] Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite arcs.
[15:46] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the mong is so good.
[15:48] Speaker 2: But I feel like I remember, specifically during that arc,
[15:51] Speaker 2: like recaps and like them stretching out big moments to
[15:55] Speaker 2: just blast forever. Yeah, where it like it feels like
[15:58] Speaker 2: it definitely shouldn't be that way. And then you see
[16:01] Speaker 2: recent arcs where I haven't quite watched the anime, but
[16:03] Speaker 2: I've at least kept up with, like what the big
[16:04] Speaker 2: moments are are the clips and stuff, and you got
[16:06] Speaker 2: you see some animators going above and beyond, right, So
[16:09] Speaker 2: animation is one of those things where you have a
[16:11] Speaker 2: team of people working on it, and with an anime
[16:13] Speaker 2: like One Piece, where it's been going for over twenty
[16:15] Speaker 2: years and you know, the staff's constantly changing and they're
[16:18] Speaker 2: trying to keep it going weekly basically for the most part,
[16:21] Speaker 2: where they're getting out an episode a week, and then
[16:23] Speaker 2: they're catching up to the source material and running into
[16:25] Speaker 2: all these other issues. It's not gonna be perfect, right,
[16:27] Speaker 2: So you're not gonna get a perfect experience either way,
[16:30] Speaker 2: anime wise.
[16:31] Speaker 3: Maybe that's why we're getting the remake. But I don't know.
[16:34] Speaker 2: One Pieces or one Pace is a is a good
[16:37] Speaker 2: alternative from what I've seen.
[16:38] Speaker 3: I enjoy it.
[16:39] Speaker 1: I don't know. It's just funny because whenever someone says
[16:40] Speaker 1: recommends one Pace on Twitter, everyone freaks on and says,
[16:43] Speaker 1: don't do it. It's terrible, It's so bad. I'm like,
[16:45] Speaker 1: have you guys seen fish Man Island? Have you guys
[16:47] Speaker 1: seen well? Like, what the fuck are you guys talking about?
[16:51] Speaker 1: I will say, obviously things change, Like the early anime
[16:54] Speaker 1: really really pacings pretty good, it gets worse, it gets
[16:57] Speaker 1: a little bit better at times. Obviously, the animation in
[17:00] Speaker 1: an Egghead, Oh my god, was it fantastic, And even
[17:03] Speaker 1: towards the end of one Oh it was it was
[17:05] Speaker 1: so good that this animation is enhancing it. So this
[17:08] Speaker 1: pros and cons. But then again, everyone's getting into one
[17:12] Speaker 1: Piece at different times. Like I've been watching weekly since
[17:14] Speaker 1: fucking before the time skip right, So you don't a
[17:19] Speaker 1: lot of people don't know, you don't know what it
[17:21] Speaker 1: was like going through Punk Hazard and Whole Cake. You
[17:23] Speaker 1: know you.
[17:24] Speaker 2: You week yeah, week to week.
[17:26] Speaker 1: You fucking I was watching Dress Rosa weekly. It took
[17:30] Speaker 1: o my entire high school career, so obviously someone in
[17:34] Speaker 1: my chat was like someone in chat Marcus was like, oh,
[17:37] Speaker 1: you guys, it feel like you guys watch a different
[17:38] Speaker 1: Dress Rosa than I did. No shit, you probably binged
[17:41] Speaker 1: it in like two weeks. I watched it over the
[17:44] Speaker 1: course of a four year high school like three and
[17:46] Speaker 1: a half years of high school. I remember making a
[17:48] Speaker 1: review to a chapter in grade nine or ten and
[17:52] Speaker 1: then graduating and Dress Roaster wasn't done yet.
[17:57] Speaker 2: Oh god, it's so true. And granted there's a lot
[18:01] Speaker 2: of pacing wise for manga and stuff, where it's so
[18:04] Speaker 2: much better there after the fact where you're able to
[18:05] Speaker 2: kind of binge through it. Oh. I feel like Berserk
[18:08] Speaker 2: is one of the best examples of that in my
[18:09] Speaker 2: mind too, where throughout most of my high school career
[18:12] Speaker 2: he was just on a boat and there was like
[18:13] Speaker 2: five chapters that came out. Every time I checked back in,
[18:16] Speaker 2: they're still on the boat, and I'm like, oh, then
[18:18] Speaker 2: you go back and reread that arc. It's not too bad, right,
[18:20] Speaker 2: but it's like one piece, They're always on a boat.
[18:22] Speaker 2: Every time I check back in, they're still on a boat.
[18:24] Speaker 3: So it's boats and anime hate them all right.
[18:30] Speaker 1: Anyway, let's move on to foods, food doors.
[18:36] Speaker 3: I really want to revisit Food Wars at some point.
[18:39] Speaker 2: It's such an interesting series, and I've actually been cooking
[18:42] Speaker 2: here over the past few months, so I wonder if,
[18:44] Speaker 2: like my perspective now would be different.
[18:48] Speaker 3: But I really enjoy Food Wars.
[18:52] Speaker 2: Although caveat, I guess you're the one that recommended this
[18:54] Speaker 2: to me, and I actually haven't seen most of the anime.
[18:57] Speaker 2: I saw like six episodes, seven episodes, and I read
[18:59] Speaker 2: it instead.
[19:00] Speaker 1: I think the anime is better than the manga. Not
[19:02] Speaker 1: gonna lie like without the without the sound effects of
[19:06] Speaker 1: them orgasming. I don't know if it's the same, dud.
[19:09] Speaker 2: You say that. Everybody complains about how acchy Food Wars is,
[19:13] Speaker 2: and I do think it's one of those series where
[19:15] Speaker 2: the acchi kind of adds to it on it because
[19:18] Speaker 2: it like, uh, it just meshes well, like that's half
[19:21] Speaker 2: the point, right, But I will say I think the
[19:24] Speaker 2: anime is like way more atchy than the manga because
[19:25] Speaker 2: there were so many times I'm reading it and I'm like,
[19:27] Speaker 2: there might be one etchy page every couple few chapters,
[19:30] Speaker 2: like well, for most of it, it's not even that bad,
[19:33] Speaker 2: like at all, But uh, I don't I don't know,
[19:36] Speaker 2: very interesting series, very top tier shown in battles, shown
[19:41] Speaker 2: in that's just is like its own little thing. And then, uh,
[19:44] Speaker 2: I don't know. I could see it being one of
[19:45] Speaker 2: your favorites. I'm curious kind of on why, but I'm
[19:49] Speaker 2: not gonna fight against back against this one.
[19:51] Speaker 1: I do think it's one of those examples where the
[19:54] Speaker 1: etchy actually enhances the series, and there's not that many
[19:57] Speaker 1: that do it. There's not that many that I think
[19:59] Speaker 1: the and actually actually makes the series better. It's like
[20:03] Speaker 1: integrated into the reaction because at the end of the day,
[20:05] Speaker 1: they're cooking food, dude, they're cooking food and trying food.
[20:09] Speaker 1: So like having the over the top reactions actually enhances
[20:14] Speaker 1: are like what like we could see it kind of scale.
[20:18] Speaker 1: It's power scaling. It's essentially power scaling through orgasms.
[20:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's imagery that's meant to like represent like the
[20:25] Speaker 2: taste of the food, right, and the basically give an
[20:27] Speaker 2: extra way to to show that. So I just don't know.
[20:31] Speaker 1: I don't I don't even know why I love the show.
[20:33] Speaker 1: I just I got addicted to it really, really easily,
[20:36] Speaker 1: and I just didn't want to stop watching. I constantly
[20:38] Speaker 1: wanted more. My biggest thing. The shows that are in
[20:41] Speaker 1: my top twenty are shows that I want to rewatch
[20:43] Speaker 1: years later. Years go by and I'm like, I can
[20:46] Speaker 1: go back and watch that. I want to watch it again.
[20:48] Speaker 1: And that's how I know it meant something to me
[20:49] Speaker 1: and made a difference. I'm I'm just trying to put
[20:53] Speaker 1: by my thoughts together. For Food Wards, I don't know. Yeah,
[20:57] Speaker 1: I really don't know.
[21:00] Speaker 2: A lot of different creative characters in Food Wars that
[21:03] Speaker 2: all have like their specialized cooking style. For the most part,
[21:07] Speaker 2: you know what it was?
[21:07] Speaker 1: It was? It was It was a shone in. It's
[21:09] Speaker 1: a battle shoon and done really well, and I love
[21:11] Speaker 1: Battle Shonins, but with a very very different twist. They're
[21:16] Speaker 1: fighting through through cooking competitions and food.
[21:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was very high quality as well. I love
[21:21] Speaker 2: the artwork for Food Wars and then uh, I love
[21:24] Speaker 2: it whenever they like zoom into like a very specific
[21:27] Speaker 2: niche or thing that the author might have an interest in.
[21:29] Speaker 2: In this case, it was food, right, and and they
[21:32] Speaker 2: would have like genuine recipes like with a like a
[21:35] Speaker 2: chef kind of I guess guiding them ang and not
[21:39] Speaker 2: guiding it, but like giving advice on like the recipes
[21:42] Speaker 2: used to where it is like genuine stuff being cooked right.
[21:45] Speaker 2: So they're going into this niche and like a very
[21:48] Speaker 2: battle shown in way and it's just very fun.
[21:50] Speaker 1: There's also a common thread with my favorite anime. They
[21:54] Speaker 1: tend to be shown in, but they also tend to
[21:57] Speaker 1: have like a love interest that actually kind of go somewhere.
[22:00] Speaker 1: If you look at Kanichi, you look at Hojmeno Epo,
[22:03] Speaker 1: you look at Stein's Gate, and you look at Food Wars.
[22:06] Speaker 1: All in my top six they all have like there
[22:10] Speaker 1: is whatever the romantic relationship is. The dynamic are all
[22:14] Speaker 1: very very different, but they actually go somewhere. Maybe it's
[22:17] Speaker 1: the romantic in me. But Food Wars we got Soma
[22:21] Speaker 1: and Edina, Stein's Gate, we got Oka Bay and Christina
[22:26] Speaker 1: that is her name. We got an Epo. I don't
[22:30] Speaker 1: remember EPO's girl's name.
[22:33] Speaker 2: I'm blanking, but I know which Mashiba's sister, so we
[22:36] Speaker 2: can just call her Mashiba.
[22:39] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think yeah, and Mashiba gto whatever. But Knechie
[22:45] Speaker 1: and Mio Meu and like like some of my favorite
[22:47] Speaker 1: wife foos, my favorite wife foos are like Meu, Christina
[22:51] Speaker 1: and Edina. So like straight up, maybe that that's a factor.
[22:55] Speaker 1: I'm learning stuff about myself through going through these anime.
[23:00] Speaker 2: You know, fair enough, the top of this list is
[23:03] Speaker 2: kind of hard because I can't find very many things
[23:06] Speaker 2: to like critique here, and I really wanted to roast
[23:08] Speaker 2: your list really bad, but these are these are good,
[23:10] Speaker 2: so it's top.
[23:11] Speaker 1: I got good taste, that decent taste.
[23:15] Speaker 2: He's got food Wars taught him all about taste.
[23:17] Speaker 3: Okay.
[23:18] Speaker 1: I know No Game No Life being in my top
[23:20] Speaker 1: ten sometimes gets a little bit of criticism.
[23:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, I could see the criticism of it being in
[23:26] Speaker 2: like the top ten maybe, but I think people forget
[23:28] Speaker 2: how unique like No Game The Life kind of felt
[23:31] Speaker 2: when it came out, because you know, people love competitions,
[23:34] Speaker 2: people love games, and then you throw that in with
[23:37] Speaker 2: an Isa Kai and it just it felt very unique
[23:39] Speaker 2: with its whole uh, its whole vibe right that entire
[23:43] Speaker 2: first season, it's all you got one season, but it's
[23:44] Speaker 2: still talked about to this day for that reason, right,
[23:47] Speaker 2: And I think I liked the movie even more than
[23:48] Speaker 2: that season where it was was a prequel type thing,
[23:51] Speaker 2: so it has good world building, just all within that
[23:53] Speaker 2: first little bit. I don't know, curious, like, what what
[23:57] Speaker 2: was your reasoning behind having at top ten.
[24:01] Speaker 1: I think it just it was it was a similar
[24:03] Speaker 1: thing where I watched it, I really wanted more and
[24:05] Speaker 1: I didn't come out, and then I rewatched it, and
[24:08] Speaker 1: then I went and watched the movie in theaters, and
[24:10] Speaker 1: then I rewatched it again, and then I went and
[24:13] Speaker 1: bought the light novels and read it. So even if
[24:16] Speaker 1: I can't put my I'm not smart enough to realize
[24:19] Speaker 1: why I like a show. A lot of the times,
[24:20] Speaker 1: I'm just like, that's in my top I have to
[24:22] Speaker 1: put in my top ten. I watched it three times
[24:24] Speaker 1: in a year and a half. Clearly I love it.
[24:26] Speaker 2: Usually if I've read something as well too, there's a
[24:28] Speaker 2: little bit of bias there where I'm just gonna like
[24:30] Speaker 2: it a little bit more because I don't know. You've
[24:32] Speaker 2: seen it both ways, right, You've seen kind of where
[24:34] Speaker 2: it came from, and some of the stuff that's implied
[24:36] Speaker 2: but maybe not shown in the anime.
[24:37] Speaker 1: So dude, I loved it so much that not only
[24:39] Speaker 1: did I buy the later light novels, I bought the
[24:41] Speaker 1: earlier ones that were already adapted into the anime. Just
[24:44] Speaker 1: reread it, just to read it. I needed something to do.
[24:46] Speaker 2: I was.
[24:46] Speaker 1: I was at the time. I was in university, and
[24:48] Speaker 1: I was just like I was spending an hour on
[24:50] Speaker 1: the subway there and an hour back. I was sarying
[24:53] Speaker 1: two hours on a subway a day, two hours with
[24:55] Speaker 1: a light novel. You could finish half a light novel
[24:57] Speaker 1: or like a quarter of a light novel sometimes, so
[24:59] Speaker 1: like I would. It was just like every week I
[25:01] Speaker 1: would just read a new light novel.
[25:03] Speaker 2: Hey, you know, you don't got to try to justify
[25:05] Speaker 2: yourself to me. Man, I've read like seven light novels
[25:07] Speaker 2: in the past week.
[25:07] Speaker 1: So I there we go.
[25:10] Speaker 3: I'm a reader. Reading is great.
[25:11] Speaker 1: Uh, Spice and Wolf. I also read the light novels
[25:14] Speaker 1: and they were so good, very good. I actually think
[25:17] Speaker 1: the light novels are better than the animes first Pie
[25:19] Speaker 1: and Wolf specifically.
[25:21] Speaker 2: I haven't seen the full remake. I've only seen the
[25:23] Speaker 2: first episode. But uh, but I will say I do
[25:26] Speaker 2: love those Light novels. It was the first flight novel
[25:28] Speaker 2: said I bought in full was h was Spiced and Wolf.
[25:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, the remake's pretty good. It does feel a little
[25:32] Speaker 1: bit different at times, and I do think just like
[25:35] Speaker 1: the Spice and Wolf light novels are just really really detailed,
[25:38] Speaker 1: and that detail added a lot of value to me.
[25:40] Speaker 1: And I already watched the anime, so I was able
[25:42] Speaker 1: to picture the characters and kind of like already liked
[25:44] Speaker 1: them already going in. So it was, it was, It
[25:47] Speaker 1: was really good. So number nine is a class number eight,
[25:51] Speaker 1: Number eight overly cautious hero sir. So many anime it's
[25:57] Speaker 1: so fun.
[25:57] Speaker 2: I haven't it's and I feel like I see a
[26:00] Speaker 2: lot of people have that same big three, and I
[26:02] Speaker 2: love it because you know, well, for me it would
[26:05] Speaker 2: be like Mushoku, KonoSuba and Ree zero are like my
[26:07] Speaker 2: big three. And then here you are with two Wisa
[26:10] Speaker 2: Kai in your top ten, neither one or like usually
[26:15] Speaker 2: ones that people even mention, right, like, these are pretty
[26:17] Speaker 2: unique picks, but very high quality picks.
[26:20] Speaker 3: So I love thank you.
[26:22] Speaker 2: I just rewatched that one here recently, and then you
[26:24] Speaker 2: told me we couldn't talk about it?
[26:25] Speaker 3: Could we have to talk about Badisa Kai?
[26:29] Speaker 1: Overly Clausus Hero is just so funny. I it was
[26:33] Speaker 1: my first watch through because, like, don't get me wrong,
[26:36] Speaker 1: anime makes me laugh, you know, anime makes me laugh.
[26:38] Speaker 1: Nothing crazy. But I was watching Overly Clasha's Hero alone
[26:42] Speaker 1: by myself, and I have this distinct memory of crying
[26:46] Speaker 1: and having to pause the episode kind of. I was
[26:48] Speaker 1: laughing so hard, and I don't think any other anime
[26:51] Speaker 1: has done that to me, where it's like I need
[26:52] Speaker 1: a break, give me a second to catch my breath.
[26:56] Speaker 1: So I feel like that's that. That just spoke so
[26:58] Speaker 1: much volumes so that not only was it one of
[26:59] Speaker 1: the funniest anime I've ever seen, the second is starting
[27:02] Speaker 1: to feel repetitive. I'm like, oh, maybe it's trying to
[27:04] Speaker 1: get a little bit repetitive. It became a good anime.
[27:07] Speaker 1: I'm like, why did this get serious?
[27:08] Speaker 2: And like I'm about to say now, it's one of
[27:12] Speaker 2: those few anime that'll make you stop and pausitive episode
[27:15] Speaker 2: to cry for a little bit, but for completely different
[27:17] Speaker 2: reasons based on the.
[27:18] Speaker 3: Episode, right, So it's at the very.
[27:21] Speaker 2: Beginning, it's hysterical it's funny. There's a lot of foreshadowing that,
[27:24] Speaker 2: like I've only caught on rewatches and stuff, so it's
[27:26] Speaker 2: still serious as it kind of does some of that,
[27:29] Speaker 2: but then the last couple episodes it's just a complete
[27:31] Speaker 2: tone shift. Edit encapsulates in a way that like brings
[27:35] Speaker 2: everything together to make sense. And I know the light
[27:39] Speaker 2: novels continue going and they're kind of on hiatus now,
[27:41] Speaker 2: but just the anime as a as a standalone, it's
[27:44] Speaker 2: just still just so good, right. It ends in a
[27:46] Speaker 2: good spot, solid pick, solid pick, thank you, thank you.
[27:51] Speaker 1: We've got death done at number nine, which everyone loves
[27:52] Speaker 1: death dope.
[27:53] Speaker 2: That's good death note. It's just the gift that keeps
[27:57] Speaker 2: on giving, right. I never.
[28:00] Speaker 3: I never get tired of it. Rewatched it many times.
[28:03] Speaker 2: I haven't rewatched it quite too much here recently, but
[28:06] Speaker 2: it's just that quality, right.
[28:08] Speaker 1: It's a It's it's that anime that everyone recommends to
[28:11] Speaker 1: their friends to get into anime. And I think that
[28:13] Speaker 1: speaks volumes, not only because it kind of like people
[28:19] Speaker 1: have a certain expectation what anime is. I think it's
[28:21] Speaker 1: broken in recent years because the anime has become so mainstream.
[28:24] Speaker 1: But when we were growing up, people thought anime with
[28:26] Speaker 1: Pokemon or fucking porn, you know, it's either handti or things.
[28:29] Speaker 1: Had a lot of that. I mean that's what my
[28:31] Speaker 1: mom thought thought anime was. You know, that's what a
[28:33] Speaker 1: lot of it think.
[28:33] Speaker 3: It's pretty good summary.
[28:34] Speaker 1: So at that time, everyone recommended Death Note because it
[28:39] Speaker 1: broke those preconceptions. Oh those yeah, those preconceived perceptions of
[28:44] Speaker 1: what anime is. And it's also just really really good.
[28:47] Speaker 1: And what's funny to me is even though so many
[28:50] Speaker 1: newer good anime come out that have like kind of
[28:52] Speaker 1: broken that and people know what anime is because it's
[28:54] Speaker 1: gotten so much more popular now, people still recommend Death Note.
[28:57] Speaker 1: Death Notes always people's go to first anime for some reason,
[29:00] Speaker 1: because that's what people like. I run into people at volleyball.
[29:04] Speaker 1: We're talking about anime and they've watched like four anime,
[29:07] Speaker 1: but one of them is always death No. It's so funny,
[29:09] Speaker 1: and it's.
[29:10] Speaker 2: Such a high quality manga too, right, Like Obata is
[29:12] Speaker 2: one of my favorite artists, so like, it just looks
[29:14] Speaker 2: really good and then uh, yeah, you know for the anime,
[29:17] Speaker 2: it's one of those where it does have a pretty
[29:20] Speaker 2: solid ending. Some people like the first twenty five episodes
[29:23] Speaker 2: a little bit more and stuff as well, but even
[29:24] Speaker 2: if you stop there, it's still pretty good ending. And yeah,
[29:28] Speaker 2: it's just one of those that just has a tone
[29:30] Speaker 2: where it takes itself pretty seriously. It doesn't have like
[29:32] Speaker 2: a lot of slapstick comedy that I think that a
[29:34] Speaker 2: lot of uh anime have it. It did make me
[29:38] Speaker 2: laugh a couple of times, but it's still it's very
[29:39] Speaker 2: like dry humor whenever it does right. So it it
[29:43] Speaker 2: just did feel.
[29:44] Speaker 3: Tone wise, very different from a lot of anime at
[29:46] Speaker 3: the time.
[29:48] Speaker 1: Code Yas is pretty is similar in a lot of ways.
[29:51] Speaker 1: Like it's one of those anime that is really intelligent,
[29:54] Speaker 1: really makes you think has a good like battle between uh,
[29:58] Speaker 1: like we have we have l and Light and now
[29:59] Speaker 1: we have Code Yas in the world. I mean, oh
[30:03] Speaker 1: my god, I'm gonna.
[30:05] Speaker 2: I'm gonna push back on that one a little bit.
[30:07] Speaker 2: I do think Koyas is like my favorite series of
[30:09] Speaker 2: all time, So I do love it, okay, but I
[30:11] Speaker 2: think it gets like too many unfair Death Note comparisons
[30:14] Speaker 2: just because they came out at the same time, and
[30:16] Speaker 2: because the Luci and Light are both really smart. I
[30:19] Speaker 2: feel like where Death Note is kind of contrary to
[30:22] Speaker 2: what you would picture a lot of anime being. Kodias
[30:25] Speaker 2: is like just the most anime anime, right. It throws
[30:28] Speaker 2: like almost every genre into one. It is the full package.
[30:31] Speaker 2: It yeah, high school life, comedic, everything's kind of going crazy,
[30:38] Speaker 2: and then there's other episodes where it is very serious, right,
[30:42] Speaker 2: tackling pretty crazy topics, a lot of a lot of
[30:46] Speaker 2: different characters all over the place, a lot of strings
[30:48] Speaker 2: that attach all the things happening. I don't know, it's
[30:52] Speaker 2: hard to summarize in a short couple of sentences, but
[30:56] Speaker 2: it just it felt like the perfect anime right where
[30:58] Speaker 2: it didn't take itself too seriously, but at the same
[31:01] Speaker 2: time took things very seriously.
[31:02] Speaker 1: You know what I think the comparison comes from as well.
[31:04] Speaker 1: It's those moments that you love from from Death Note.
[31:08] Speaker 1: There's a lot of similar moments that I love from Kodyak.
[31:10] Speaker 1: It's those moments of like the betrayal and the outsmarting
[31:16] Speaker 1: and the master plan coming to fruition by the end,
[31:19] Speaker 1: and like it's like the flexing in these ways as well,
[31:23] Speaker 1: through intelligence and these planning and this mastermind. I feel
[31:27] Speaker 1: like those moments of out smarting or what people like
[31:30] Speaker 1: about both series. But they're so different, of course, they're
[31:33] Speaker 1: so different.
[31:34] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I guess. And why they seem a little
[31:37] Speaker 2: bit different than me as well is just because White
[31:40] Speaker 2: was like a little bit of a sociopath, right, he
[31:42] Speaker 2: didn't really have like a lot of things tying him
[31:45] Speaker 2: down once he.
[31:46] Speaker 3: Had got corrupted by power.
[31:48] Speaker 2: Whereas luluche we see him like just kind of gradually,
[31:52] Speaker 2: not gradually, just completely over and over have to like
[31:54] Speaker 2: harden himself over the course of the series because he
[31:56] Speaker 2: still felt very human, right, he still had these things
[31:58] Speaker 2: that would like tie up back and ground him, like
[32:01] Speaker 2: his sister and all these things he's fighting for, and
[32:03] Speaker 2: he almost had to like push past that, right. So
[32:06] Speaker 2: it's a still one of the best endings in anime
[32:08] Speaker 2: as well. Don't want to spoil that, but it's.
[32:10] Speaker 1: The fact, is my god, the ending of Code Chios
[32:13] Speaker 1: is a masterpiece.
[32:14] Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a reason it's still talked about to this day.
[32:16] Speaker 1: Right, it's a very funny people in Chad brought it
[32:20] Speaker 1: up death Note. Everyone's okay with spoiling it, like the
[32:22] Speaker 1: midpoint of death Note, because it happens in the middle
[32:24] Speaker 1: of what happens with with l Everyone's okay with spoiling it,
[32:27] Speaker 1: Cody yask no one dares talk about that masterpieces of
[32:30] Speaker 1: an ending.
[32:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy, you know, yeah, and you know it
[32:34] Speaker 2: also has the best WIFEU an anime see too, right,
[32:37] Speaker 2: we got One of my favorite scenes is like the
[32:39] Speaker 2: giant pizza. They're making a giant pizza anime hysterical stuff, right,
[32:43] Speaker 2: and then that messes up and then there's just like
[32:45] Speaker 2: this dramatic scene where pans across her looking so sad
[32:49] Speaker 2: on the roof because she was looking forward to that pizza.
[32:51] Speaker 2: So it's you know, it's funny stuff like that mixed
[32:53] Speaker 2: in with all the serious stuff that makes it one
[32:55] Speaker 2: of like the most anime anime right.
[32:58] Speaker 1: Berserved nineteen ninety seven is my number eleven. It's kind
[33:03] Speaker 1: of sad it doesn't. It's sad it doesn't make the
[33:04] Speaker 1: top ten. I just having read Berserk, I just feel like, yeah,
[33:09] Speaker 1: so many parts after nineteen ninety seven that are some
[33:11] Speaker 1: of my favorites, and it never got adapted properly or
[33:14] Speaker 1: adapted at all, and it's just like, how can I
[33:17] Speaker 1: I mean, just isolated alone. Berzerk ninety nine seven is good.
[33:20] Speaker 1: It just it ends where it begins, you know.
[33:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's basically the prologue, right, and it does do
[33:26] Speaker 2: a good job of capturing that heart and solo berserk
[33:28] Speaker 2: in some of the quiet moments. But at the same time,
[33:30] Speaker 2: there's a lot of things that probably could have done better.
[33:32] Speaker 2: It did tone down a lot. So yeah, if you're
[33:34] Speaker 2: ever comparing it too much to the mong in your head,
[33:37] Speaker 2: it's hard to live up right, It's never gotten a
[33:39] Speaker 2: perfect adaptation.
[33:40] Speaker 1: Yeap, that's true.
[33:41] Speaker 2: I respect it being on here, but yeah, at the
[33:43] Speaker 2: same time, I understand it not being overly high.
[33:47] Speaker 1: At number twelve, I have FMA Brotherhood. I put FM
[33:51] Speaker 1: slash Brotherhood because it's kind of like I really enjoyed
[33:54] Speaker 1: the original Full Metal Alchemist, but then Brotherhood does it
[33:57] Speaker 1: better with like the ending and like, so I feel
[33:59] Speaker 1: like I just just watched both. I like watching both.
[34:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't seen I haven't rewatched O three, So
[34:07] Speaker 2: take anything I say about that with a grain of salt.
[34:09] Speaker 2: The Brotherhood still so good manga, very good. People forget
[34:14] Speaker 2: how just solid FMA was, I think, because I don't know,
[34:20] Speaker 2: people would praise it almost too much, to the point
[34:22] Speaker 2: where it was seen as like the perfect the anime,
[34:24] Speaker 2: and then nowadays people don't hardly talk about it. I
[34:26] Speaker 2: don't think either of those is necessarily true. But it
[34:28] Speaker 2: was just like a very solid story foundationally from start
[34:31] Speaker 2: to finish. It had a creative world, building, creative world,
[34:34] Speaker 2: and likable characters in it. Put all that together, you know,
[34:39] Speaker 2: I don't know, a very complete package, right, so very
[34:41] Speaker 2: satisfying package.
[34:42] Speaker 1: I don't only I say it kind of just does
[34:44] Speaker 1: everything well. It's very polished of a series, especially for
[34:46] Speaker 1: the time.
[34:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, with Brotherhood, I think my least favorite part, if
[34:51] Speaker 2: I had to choose, would be some of the slapstick stuff.
[34:53] Speaker 2: But even that, it doesn't do it bad, right, It's
[34:54] Speaker 2: just kinda kind of there, So, I mean.
[34:58] Speaker 1: I found it funny. Yeah. Number thirteen Vinland Saga. Oh
[35:03] Speaker 1: my god, I've read the manga. I need to catch
[35:05] Speaker 1: up and finish it. But it's just a masterpiece. I
[35:08] Speaker 1: think it should be higher the more I think about it, it
[35:10] Speaker 1: should be higher.
[35:12] Speaker 2: Yeah. No, Vinland Saga's up there as well, one of
[35:15] Speaker 2: my favorite manga. Solid anime. What's done a great job
[35:18] Speaker 2: of those first two seasons.
[35:20] Speaker 3: Hope to see more, Yeah, don't.
[35:23] Speaker 2: I don't know if I have a ton to say
[35:24] Speaker 2: about this one, aside from the fact that Season one,
[35:27] Speaker 2: in its entirety was just the prologue is crazy, and
[35:29] Speaker 2: I feel like it gets better from there.
[35:31] Speaker 1: So it's it's the character study and the development of
[35:35] Speaker 1: Thorfin throughout him growing up is just so beautifully done.
[35:39] Speaker 1: I love it.
[35:41] Speaker 2: I will say there's a lot of coming in age
[35:44] Speaker 2: stories in media, and a lot of them are really
[35:48] Speaker 2: well done. I love coming of age stories, but Thorphin's
[35:51] Speaker 2: is very unique because throughout that entire first season where
[35:54] Speaker 2: we're seeing kind of his origin stories and whatnot, it
[35:56] Speaker 2: doesn't feel like he's the main character at all, right,
[35:59] Speaker 2: as it probably shouldn't. He's a kid, right, He's kind
[36:01] Speaker 2: of being pulled around by everybody else's whims and life. Right,
[36:06] Speaker 2: just life can be crazy and chaotic, and he doesn't
[36:07] Speaker 2: have a lot of control over over most of that, right,
[36:10] Speaker 2: He's kind of a slave to his own emotions there.
[36:12] Speaker 2: So it's a it's crazy how well that's portrayed versus
[36:16] Speaker 2: just everything that goes past that, right, with him actually
[36:18] Speaker 2: growing up and becoming a man and becoming his own person,
[36:23] Speaker 2: So moving past those things that happen, So.
[36:28] Speaker 1: What's crazy is my number fourteen pick Samurai X. I
[36:30] Speaker 1: watched within the last three months, Right, it was it
[36:34] Speaker 1: was Jordan's recommendation on our podcast Rank Cafe where we're
[36:37] Speaker 1: just making each other watch anime, and it was just
[36:41] Speaker 1: it was a perfect series. Like I don't think I
[36:44] Speaker 1: give I don't think in my top ten, I would
[36:46] Speaker 1: not give a single one a ten out of ten.
[36:48] Speaker 1: Samurai X was close to it. I think I give
[36:50] Speaker 1: SAMURAIX a ten out of ten. It was just perfection.
[36:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's it's so good. It doesn't overstay, it's welcome.
[36:56] Speaker 2: It has a very serious tone that just met mixes
[36:59] Speaker 2: with the I'm right, and I do love Samurai X
[37:01] Speaker 2: way more than I love just normal ra Roni Kenchin
[37:04] Speaker 2: for whatever reason.
[37:05] Speaker 3: Right, it's just uh so much better.
[37:07] Speaker 2: It just it feels like it's such a complete story,
[37:09] Speaker 2: just telling retelling that prologue and a in a different tone.
[37:12] Speaker 3: Right, the way that they put so much passion into
[37:14] Speaker 3: it was perfect.
[37:15] Speaker 1: I couldn't have asked for anything more. I the only
[37:17] Speaker 1: reason I wouldn't give it a ten is because, like,
[37:19] Speaker 1: oh maybe animation, dude. The animation was good too, and
[37:22] Speaker 1: at a million years old, when did it come out?
[37:24] Speaker 2: That's what the thing about an Ova, right is they
[37:26] Speaker 2: kind of took their time with it and it was
[37:27] Speaker 2: only a few what four or five episodes. I forget
[37:30] Speaker 2: how long Samurai X is, but uh what whatever they
[37:34] Speaker 2: put into it, like, they went all out where when
[37:37] Speaker 2: things were happening, So it holds holds up quality wise too.
[37:41] Speaker 1: Jordan, did you finish my number fifteen? Pick Ping Pong
[37:43] Speaker 1: the animation? I pleaded the fifth I pleaded the fifteen
[37:48] Speaker 1: week for a future week. Please just watch.
[37:52] Speaker 3: You need to finish it.
[37:53] Speaker 1: Walked all the Ping Pong and just talk about it.
[37:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm down. I loved sports anime. I loved
[37:59] Speaker 2: those first few episodes. I need to finish.
[38:02] Speaker 1: Such a good storytelling. And you haven't seen anything short
[38:05] Speaker 1: and you've watched two or three episodes. You literally haven't
[38:07] Speaker 1: seen it. It's only a twelve episode series, right, But
[38:09] Speaker 1: I'm telling you, though they're just an introduction, it is
[38:11] Speaker 1: so good. It's in my top fifteen for a reason.
[38:16] Speaker 2: I've seen it decent. I watched four episodes I think
[38:18] Speaker 2: out of eleven, which makes it worse. But the fact
[38:21] Speaker 2: I didn't finish it, but I need to do so
[38:26] Speaker 2: it gets stuff when we're watching like three shows for
[38:28] Speaker 2: that week or whatever, to three different ones. But that
[38:31] Speaker 2: one's one I haven't tooken off my watching list. There's
[38:34] Speaker 2: a lot of others I took off. That's not one
[38:36] Speaker 2: of them.
[38:37] Speaker 1: Hell yeah, I will say we're there's no way we're
[38:42] Speaker 1: gonna get through alle hundred animals. Yeah, we're gone, but
[38:45] Speaker 1: Recon's away for a little bit. Guys. He won't be
[38:47] Speaker 1: back until like maybe the end of March early April.
[38:51] Speaker 1: So maybe me and Jordan do this. We just go
[38:54] Speaker 1: through this list twenty episode at a time. Maybe we
[38:57] Speaker 1: do a week where we just talk about ping pong.
[38:59] Speaker 1: Who knows.
[39:00] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I'm down for whatever. It's like you said,
[39:03] Speaker 3: it's a long list.
[39:04] Speaker 2: We're definitely not geting through all these, but if nothing else,
[39:07] Speaker 2: definitely won't run out of.
[39:08] Speaker 3: Things to talk about.
[39:09] Speaker 2: There's it's crazy how many of things I've seen. It
[39:11] Speaker 2: makes me curious, Like, I know I have like a
[39:13] Speaker 2: number of the shows I've seen, but.
[39:16] Speaker 1: God, well, I mean a good amount of these you
[39:18] Speaker 1: recommended to me. Major was your recommendation coming in at
[39:20] Speaker 1: thirty one?
[39:22] Speaker 2: Oh?
[39:23] Speaker 1: Let's like sometimes that's I just look at your Twitter
[39:26] Speaker 1: sometimes and like you like you when I when I'm
[39:28] Speaker 1: scrolling and I see that you talking about an anime,
[39:30] Speaker 1: I'm like, Jordan's got a good taste. I'll check it out.
[39:34] Speaker 1: I'm not even fucking lying.
[39:35] Speaker 2: I have very biased tastes too, though, I will say
[39:38] Speaker 2: so like the things I like, I really like, and
[39:40] Speaker 2: they might not necessarily have that same mainstream appeal. But like,
[39:44] Speaker 2: I really like sports series, right, so I've fel like
[39:46] Speaker 2: I've at least sampled like almost every sports series out there.
[39:49] Speaker 2: It feels like So Major is just one of those
[39:51] Speaker 2: that stuck with me. It goes for like six seasons
[39:54] Speaker 2: and then also has like Major Second for another couple
[39:57] Speaker 2: of seasons. It's it's so good, Briggs.
[40:01] Speaker 1: Do I have to bribe you to do it with
[40:03] Speaker 1: my Top one hundred? The problem is I haven't seen
[40:05] Speaker 1: a lot of the anime in your Top one hundred
[40:07] Speaker 1: for sure. I mean, we could roaster Top one hundred
[40:10] Speaker 1: for a podcast, not for free. I don't do nothing
[40:13] Speaker 1: for free. Black Like, where did I skip to? Nora Gomi?
[40:22] Speaker 3: Laura Gomi? What a throwback?
[40:23] Speaker 1: I know the opening I haven't watched. I have rewatched it.
[40:28] Speaker 1: The openings are fantastic. It's just one of those series
[40:30] Speaker 1: that I do think it's better over time and has
[40:32] Speaker 1: a good blend of like comedy but serious moments and
[40:38] Speaker 1: badass moments and romance moments and heartfelt it like it
[40:43] Speaker 1: just it's one of those series where I just think
[40:44] Speaker 1: it's like, oh, it's so chill, it's fun, but it
[40:47] Speaker 1: just does everything well and does a little bit of everything,
[40:50] Speaker 1: if that makes sense.
[40:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like it's one of those series where
[40:54] Speaker 2: you still hear about the openings.
[40:55] Speaker 3: The openings were bangers, you know, but.
[40:59] Speaker 2: I've seen this recommended is like an underrated anime at times.
[41:03] Speaker 2: And while that's true, it's like people forget how popular
[41:07] Speaker 2: this series was when it was coming out, right, because
[41:08] Speaker 2: it was very good, right, and then it's it's one
[41:10] Speaker 2: of those things where it kind of fell off once
[41:11] Speaker 2: we realize we're probably not.
[41:12] Speaker 3: Getting more of the anime. I think among only ended.
[41:15] Speaker 2: A couple couple of years ago, but it's it's very
[41:18] Speaker 2: solid and a lot of things that did very funny
[41:20] Speaker 2: but also very action heavy, and the nailed that right,
[41:23] Speaker 2: some good character moments.
[41:24] Speaker 1: I think when I think of Norgomed, I think of
[41:26] Speaker 1: season two a lot, and then I went and watched
[41:28] Speaker 1: season one I'm like, it's a lot slower than I remember.
[41:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember the blonde girl and a lot of
[41:34] Speaker 2: focus around, like her little posse. I guess you'd say,
[41:38] Speaker 2: like in that second season, right, so what's her name again?
[41:42] Speaker 1: Starts with the bee beam or something.
[41:44] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, something like that.
[41:45] Speaker 2: But she was a battie, right, so you want Waifu's
[41:48] Speaker 2: Norgami also has some.
[41:49] Speaker 1: Of that truth, and you got a little bit of
[41:51] Speaker 1: a romance between Yato and our main girl, if I
[41:53] Speaker 1: remember correctly. It's been a while since I've watched season two, but.
[41:56] Speaker 2: That's what It's hard for me to get too many
[41:58] Speaker 2: specifics because it has a little bit. I have not
[42:01] Speaker 2: rewatched this one.
[42:01] Speaker 1: But Black Lagoon at number seventeen balls to the wall
[42:06] Speaker 1: fucking action. And I said fucking action on purpose.
[42:12] Speaker 2: I mean, hey, if they can't handle you saying that,
[42:14] Speaker 2: then definitely they can't handle Black Lagoons. So don't go
[42:16] Speaker 2: into this expecting expecting anything to be held back. Right.
[42:20] Speaker 2: This is a series that I've rewatched a few different times.
[42:24] Speaker 2: It took me way too long to watch it for
[42:25] Speaker 2: the first time. But uh, guy, it is a vibe
[42:30] Speaker 2: all its own. It's very depressing, very dark, but just
[42:34] Speaker 2: it still manages to have like action, it still manages
[42:37] Speaker 2: to have comedy.
[42:39] Speaker 3: I don't know, I'm trying to think.
[42:41] Speaker 2: It just has like it's very own unique tone while
[42:44] Speaker 2: going through all that.
[42:44] Speaker 3: Right, So it's uh.
[42:46] Speaker 1: I will say, up until this point, like I like,
[42:49] Speaker 1: I'm like, so not what we're talking the anime we've
[42:51] Speaker 1: talked about, but the anime that I watched, like throughout
[42:54] Speaker 1: my life chronologically, A lot of the times I always
[42:57] Speaker 1: like the main the male characters like my favorite because
[43:00] Speaker 1: we're always guys. And then I had like wife who's
[43:03] Speaker 1: girls that like I thought I liked as a character,
[43:05] Speaker 1: but they are never my favorite. Black Lagoon was the
[43:08] Speaker 1: first series where Revy was my favorite character in the series.
[43:12] Speaker 1: In the series, she is so badass and she was
[43:15] Speaker 1: just best girl hands down, not even a wife who
[43:18] Speaker 1: just bestirs. I loved it.
[43:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it's very good series. A lot of guns,
[43:25] Speaker 2: a lot of a lot of Revy. She's kind of psycho,
[43:28] Speaker 2: but like a in a hot way.
[43:30] Speaker 3: And then uh, I don't, I don't know, I.
[43:32] Speaker 2: Feel like, like, so.
[43:34] Speaker 3: This series does go to some very dark places.
[43:35] Speaker 2: I know. When the manga went on hiatus, I think
[43:38] Speaker 2: the author was suffering from like some depression and stuff
[43:40] Speaker 2: like that, and I'm like, no wonder writing this for
[43:42] Speaker 2: you know, however, long stuff is bound to happen.
[43:45] Speaker 1: I'm not surprised whoever wrote this was depressed. It made sense.
[43:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, it goes to some dark places, so I guess
[43:50] Speaker 2: be wary of that. And also I learned like twenty
[43:52] Speaker 2: new slurs I think from this series alone, Like they
[43:55] Speaker 2: were saying things I'm like, I gotta look up at
[43:57] Speaker 2: that even means like I never heard it half this
[43:59] Speaker 2: stuff right. It's it's weird too because I think Revy's
[44:04] Speaker 2: like Chinese American, but like she has like ten different
[44:06] Speaker 2: words for other Chinese people that I am like, all right,
[44:09] Speaker 2: I never heard any of that.
[44:10] Speaker 1: So number eighteen JoJo's just in general just just blanket
[44:15] Speaker 1: and JoJo's I like some arcs and some parts better
[44:19] Speaker 1: than others. I'm a big fan of part two. I
[44:22] Speaker 1: like Part five a lot as well. I'm excited for
[44:26] Speaker 1: Part seven to come out. I just like JoJo's.
[44:29] Speaker 2: You just got to get into the vibe of JoJo's
[44:31] Speaker 2: is when I tell people, because it does have its
[44:32] Speaker 2: very own vibe and I wasn't quite messing with it.
[44:36] Speaker 2: Too much over like the first four or five episodes,
[44:40] Speaker 2: because Part one people say it's a little bit slow.
[44:42] Speaker 2: I enjoyed it, but you like, ironically enjoy it because
[44:44] Speaker 2: it's very over the top, has a really good ending.
[44:47] Speaker 2: And then part two is great, one of my favorite parts.
[44:50] Speaker 2: And then I love JoJo's in general. But like for
[44:53] Speaker 2: most people, you just got to get into the vibe.
[44:54] Speaker 2: Once you're in that vibe, it's just it feels like
[44:57] Speaker 2: a different world, right, It's like, no, it's.
[44:58] Speaker 1: Fucking I have to say this. I'm sorry to cut
[45:01] Speaker 1: you off. It's so funny. I've tried to make my
[45:03] Speaker 1: cousin watch anime. He will not finish an anime. He
[45:07] Speaker 1: drops everything drop me. He watches a little bit of
[45:10] Speaker 1: Rooney Kensen for some reason, like a bunch of that
[45:13] Speaker 1: he got. He got through a good amount of that,
[45:15] Speaker 1: but he dropped death note. He's dropped everything everything he drops.
[45:19] Speaker 1: Does doesn't really like anime. You know what. His favorite
[45:21] Speaker 1: anime is Joe JoJo's, but specifically Part one. Okay, he likes,
[45:28] Speaker 1: he likes Part two. He watched all of Part three.
[45:30] Speaker 1: It's the furthest he's gotten in an anime. He didn't
[45:32] Speaker 1: watch anything past it because he just fucking I don't know,
[45:34] Speaker 1: he's busy, can't get him, can't get him to finish anything,
[45:38] Speaker 1: like whatever you watch, like, you'll watch like ten episodes
[45:40] Speaker 1: of death though He's like that it's pretty good, and
[45:41] Speaker 1: then never watch it again. His favorite anime Number one
[45:44] Speaker 1: anime to this day is JoJo's Part one, and I
[45:47] Speaker 1: just find it so funny.
[45:48] Speaker 2: I mean, JoJo's is one of those series where it's
[45:52] Speaker 2: Part one's pretty poetic, right all in all, if you
[45:54] Speaker 2: take those major story beats and and just look at those.
[45:57] Speaker 2: But the presentation is what I think takes a lot
[45:59] Speaker 2: of people from getting used to. It's, uh, it's very
[46:02] Speaker 2: over the top. It's like flamboyant mascul 'll entity a
[46:05] Speaker 2: little bit as like uh as the the way they
[46:08] Speaker 2: resent themselves, the way they I don't know, there'll be
[46:12] Speaker 2: a lot of things that happened that don't really matter,
[46:15] Speaker 2: so like there's that as well, like, uh, I don't know,
[46:19] Speaker 2: it's just out there. It's like its own vibe and
[46:21] Speaker 2: its own world, and it's like a fever dream watching
[46:23] Speaker 2: it for the first time, right, So it's getting used
[46:25] Speaker 2: to that. You'll you'll you'll.
[46:27] Speaker 3: Find a series unlike unlike any other.
[46:30] Speaker 1: It's just it's just so funny to me because everyone's like,
[46:32] Speaker 1: I love JoJo's, but part one was a little slow.
[46:34] Speaker 1: It's so different. I love Jojo's's my favorite, but you
[46:36] Speaker 1: know part one, and then you get my cousin that's
[46:38] Speaker 1: just like part one is the best, and Loki he's
[46:41] Speaker 1: like he's not anymore. He's definitely matured a lot, but
[46:44] Speaker 1: like Loki, he's just Deo like he does genuinely remind
[46:47] Speaker 1: him Theo in a lot of ways. My cousin he
[46:50] Speaker 1: is the biggest, like troll charismatic, like he is just
[46:54] Speaker 1: Deo honestly like.
[46:55] Speaker 2: That it was your cousin, but it was him, but
[46:57] Speaker 2: it was him.
[46:58] Speaker 1: He is so fucking I don't know, man. He like
[47:01] Speaker 1: he's very different nowadays, he's definitely grown up and matured.
[47:04] Speaker 1: But growing up with this guy he was he was
[47:07] Speaker 1: fucking deal.
[47:07] Speaker 2: It was.
[47:08] Speaker 1: It was unbelievable the shit that he would do.
[47:10] Speaker 2: Jojo' is just one of those series is very meme heavy.
[47:13] Speaker 2: It's really good in a serious way without taking itself
[47:16] Speaker 2: too seriously. And then I do love that everybody, like
[47:19] Speaker 2: you just said, has their own favorite part, right, So
[47:21] Speaker 2: I think for me, my first watch through, I hated
[47:24] Speaker 2: Part three. I didn't hate it, I just it was
[47:27] Speaker 2: probably like my least favorite. I watched it again, I
[47:30] Speaker 2: think it's my favorite part. Part three is my favorite part.
[47:32] Speaker 2: So you're like, that's the squad. It's like a fifty
[47:35] Speaker 2: episode journey, but very episodic feeling. But but yeah, matches
[47:39] Speaker 2: that JoJo's tone right. Solid pick to have in the
[47:42] Speaker 2: top twenty.
[47:43] Speaker 1: Hell yeah, Fate zero at nineteen and Fate staying. Unlimited
[47:48] Speaker 1: Blade Works at twenty eight.
[47:51] Speaker 2: Zero is so good. Ginner Rabucci is the writer for
[47:54] Speaker 2: the light novels. It has that tone to it that's
[47:56] Speaker 2: just the pressing as hell. I don't know. For some reason,
[47:59] Speaker 2: I love it when series makes me sad and depressed.
[48:01] Speaker 2: It makes me feel something, and I'm a little sad.
[48:03] Speaker 2: We didn't get Recon to watch this first. We had
[48:06] Speaker 2: him Watchunlimited Blade Works instead.
[48:08] Speaker 1: I thought it was a better chance of getting him
[48:10] Speaker 1: to like it if we started with Unlimited Blade Work.
[48:11] Speaker 1: I guess that was wrong.
[48:13] Speaker 2: Maybe maybe Unlimited Blade Works is like definitely more. I
[48:18] Speaker 2: feel like most people maybe like that better.
[48:20] Speaker 3: Maybe I don't know.
[48:22] Speaker 1: I don't love Fate zero is better, but Fate Stain
[48:25] Speaker 1: at Elemented Blade Works is more anime, if that makes sense.
[48:29] Speaker 2: Face zero is my favorite, But at the same time,
[48:31] Speaker 2: it's it's one of those where it's very depressing, right,
[48:33] Speaker 2: It's you know where it ends, and it doesn't end
[48:36] Speaker 2: in a good spot. So they chose, uh, I guess
[48:39] Speaker 2: some background on this is, like, you know, I like
[48:41] Speaker 2: the writer Genna Rabucci. He does a lot of at
[48:44] Speaker 2: least back then stuff. He did a lot of interesting things.
[48:46] Speaker 2: He did the light novels for Black Lagoon, he did
[48:49] Speaker 2: the Medoka anime he wrote for that. There's a few
[48:52] Speaker 2: others I could maybe name, but Phantom recordom of the Phantom.
[48:55] Speaker 2: But one of his quotes is that he doesn't feel like,
[48:59] Speaker 2: you know, anime watchers like deserve the happy ending or
[49:02] Speaker 2: like that characters aren't truly happy and like everything's always
[49:05] Speaker 2: going to be depressing, right, So they chose for the
[49:08] Speaker 2: prequel for Fate zero. Whenever they're looking for a writer
[49:11] Speaker 2: for those light novels, they knew how it was going
[49:13] Speaker 2: to end because of how the visual novel starts, right,
[49:16] Speaker 2: and he was in a bit of a like a
[49:19] Speaker 2: writer's blocked at that time. So the fact that they
[49:22] Speaker 2: made that work. They're like this guy that ends thincts pressing,
[49:24] Speaker 2: and we got to have a series that ends the
[49:26] Speaker 2: pressing to match up with this. It just fits so well.
[49:32] Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't I don't want to gush
[49:33] Speaker 2: over that too much. But Fate's good and Fate zero
[49:35] Speaker 2: is like the best faith.
[49:36] Speaker 1: All right, our goal, Our goal is to get through
[49:38] Speaker 1: twenty five anime here. Okay, So you Hackey Show, You
[49:41] Speaker 1: Hockey Show, which is just still I want to go
[49:43] Speaker 1: back and rewatch it. It's a classic. I'm a big fan.
[49:46] Speaker 1: I still to this day like it more than Hunter Hunter,
[49:49] Speaker 1: which is kind of crazy because Hunter hunters better, but
[49:51] Speaker 1: You Hackey Show just has better characters, or I like
[49:53] Speaker 1: the characters so much more.
[49:55] Speaker 2: Hunter Hunter feels more polished in a lot of ways.
[49:57] Speaker 2: I feel like, whereas you Hawk Show might feel like
[50:00] Speaker 2: a bit of a rough draft at times, with how
[50:03] Speaker 2: a little bit rougher around the edges. It's not like
[50:04] Speaker 2: everything's planned out exactly, but it does have some of
[50:08] Speaker 2: that raw energy in a good way. Right, Like I
[50:11] Speaker 2: rewatched it a couple of years back, and maybe a
[50:13] Speaker 2: few years back now, but it holds up like it's
[50:16] Speaker 2: very good and one of the most likable main cast
[50:18] Speaker 2: in anime. And then it does some of the formulaic
[50:22] Speaker 2: stuff with battle showing in is that like I don't know.
[50:26] Speaker 2: I don't want to say like it did the things
[50:29] Speaker 2: that are like cliche or whatnot, because I feel like
[50:30] Speaker 2: it popularized those things, right, like the Dark Tournament, one
[50:33] Speaker 2: of the best tournaments, Chapter Black after that, where you
[50:35] Speaker 2: have like the things that kind of subvert expectations there,
[50:40] Speaker 2: Like I.
[50:40] Speaker 1: Feel like it's very simplistic, but it's simplistic looking back
[50:43] Speaker 1: nowadays at the time you're like, this is perfect and
[50:46] Speaker 1: it's doing it all so well.
[50:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like how raw it is really helps
[50:52] Speaker 2: some of the emotional parts. And then also like the
[50:54] Speaker 2: action and everything else on top of that is still
[50:56] Speaker 2: just very good. Right, It doesn't have to be polished
[50:59] Speaker 2: and perfect, like Hunter a hund is to be a
[51:01] Speaker 2: very good series.
[51:02] Speaker 1: I mean, at the end of the day, like when
[51:03] Speaker 1: I try to think, like logically and critically, I'm like
[51:05] Speaker 1: Hunter Hunter power systems better and there's these deeper moments
[51:09] Speaker 1: that are so good and it has so much going
[51:11] Speaker 1: for it Hunter Hunter. But when I think about what
[51:13] Speaker 1: I would what I would rather go back and rewatch
[51:15] Speaker 1: You Hawckey Show all day for Kuwabara and my boy.
[51:18] Speaker 2: U s K.
[51:19] Speaker 1: I used think I respect it, this pure just emotion.
[51:22] Speaker 1: What would I rather watch you Hawckey Show? So how
[51:25] Speaker 1: could I not put it higher on that list?
[51:27] Speaker 2: You know, I still think the chapter Black Saga is
[51:29] Speaker 2: like one of my favorite showing in arcs in all
[51:31] Speaker 2: of anime. Right, it's just the and Dark Tournament, Like
[51:33] Speaker 2: both of those are just up there as like two
[51:35] Speaker 2: of the the top arks in general. And then I
[51:38] Speaker 2: kind of had it a little bit of a rushed ending,
[51:39] Speaker 2: but still very good. Hunter Hunters are my top five
[51:42] Speaker 2: anime so like I you know, it.
[51:45] Speaker 3: Might be a little bit disagreement there, but they're both
[51:47] Speaker 3: top tier. No disagreements. I'm agreeing a little.
[51:50] Speaker 2: Bit too much.
[51:51] Speaker 1: I think it's a fair point to most people would
[51:54] Speaker 1: like Hunter Hunter more. I'm a very character driven person.
[51:58] Speaker 1: You couldn't tell ye fair enough.
[52:01] Speaker 2: I think Uk is one of the best like shown
[52:03] Speaker 2: in main characters out there, right, I'd have him on
[52:04] Speaker 2: my Mount rushmore.
[52:06] Speaker 1: He's just so cool but also like his layers to
[52:08] Speaker 1: his character. I love it anyway, Your name at number
[52:12] Speaker 1: twenty three. My first movie I don't know. At a
[52:16] Speaker 1: certain point, I'm like, yeah, we'll start doing movies too.
[52:20] Speaker 1: I love you.
[52:20] Speaker 2: Your Name was. Your Name was good because it took
[52:24] Speaker 2: the masterpiece that was like the Grand Blue live action
[52:27] Speaker 2: and it was like, you know what, we can we
[52:28] Speaker 2: can make a parody of this, right we can. We
[52:30] Speaker 2: can go above and beyond and make our own story
[52:35] Speaker 2: that you know, kind of mirrors the greatness we see
[52:38] Speaker 2: in that that live action film. So, uh yeah, Your
[52:42] Speaker 2: Name pretty decent overall. Not a bad film by any means.
[52:45] Speaker 2: Took the world by storm when it came out.
[52:47] Speaker 1: Yeah, it did. And I think it's another one of
[52:49] Speaker 1: those things where it's like I watched it when it
[52:51] Speaker 1: came out and like subbed, and then I made Lauren
[52:55] Speaker 1: go watch it with me in theaters dubbed, and then
[52:57] Speaker 1: I re watched it another time. I watched it like
[52:59] Speaker 1: four five times right now, So like just the pure
[53:02] Speaker 1: rewatch value, the highs and lows in the series. It
[53:07] Speaker 1: was one of those things where like I knew where
[53:08] Speaker 1: it was going, but I wasn't sure. I don't know.
[53:10] Speaker 1: I like it a lot.
[53:12] Speaker 2: Makoto Shinkai is one of those, uh, really creative directors
[53:18] Speaker 2: when it comes to quality and whatnot. Like everything's always
[53:20] Speaker 2: feels so top quality in his films between like the
[53:22] Speaker 2: music and the animation and everything a little.
[53:25] Speaker 3: Bit out there.
[53:26] Speaker 2: It's like the plots, right, But I do feel like
[53:29] Speaker 2: your name has one of those easier to like get
[53:33] Speaker 2: into plots, Like it is one of those that like
[53:35] Speaker 2: really just makes the whole film high quality. Everything with
[53:38] Speaker 2: people have seen pretty private, they can kind of get
[53:40] Speaker 2: behind that, right. It's just a good romance story that
[53:42] Speaker 2: actually doesn't have a depressing ending, right, And it kind of.
[53:45] Speaker 1: What were you saying about the author's plots, I kind
[53:47] Speaker 1: of cut you off, and I think you cut out
[53:49] Speaker 1: a little bit there.
[53:50] Speaker 2: Oh gotch. I was just saying, like everything is always
[53:52] Speaker 2: so high quality about his movies, but his plots are
[53:54] Speaker 2: always like a little bit out there. Like I don't
[53:56] Speaker 2: know if you've seen some of his other movies and stuff,
[53:58] Speaker 2: but like the one that comes to mind for me
[54:00] Speaker 2: is like Weathering with You, I think is what it
[54:02] Speaker 2: was called it.
[54:04] Speaker 3: I watched it in theaters a little bit after.
[54:06] Speaker 2: I hopefully I'm not speaking out my ass here and
[54:08] Speaker 2: just messing everything up on like what he's done, But like.
[54:11] Speaker 3: Weathering with You, was it? Was interesting, but it was
[54:15] Speaker 3: also just.
[54:18] Speaker 2: I don't know. It was weird in a lot of
[54:19] Speaker 2: ways to me, like I didn't quite understand what was
[54:21] Speaker 2: going on, whereas with Your Name, I could actually follow
[54:23] Speaker 2: what was going on, if that makes sense. Like everything
[54:27] Speaker 2: else that I've watched of him, it's like, I don't
[54:29] Speaker 2: know what's going on, but I like it. Your Name
[54:31] Speaker 2: it was a little bit of both. I was like,
[54:32] Speaker 2: I like it and I know what's going on.
[54:35] Speaker 1: It was just like it did it all? I will
[54:37] Speaker 1: say it did it all. Rad Wimbs killed the music,
[54:42] Speaker 1: I don't know. The plot was good, the romance was good.
[54:44] Speaker 1: It told like a pretty it was still a unique
[54:46] Speaker 1: concept like it's been done before, but it's pretty unique
[54:50] Speaker 1: and different. I loved it. I loved it, and I'm
[54:53] Speaker 1: you know, that's my my hopeless romantic in me. Another
[54:56] Speaker 1: another romance series. Who would have thought Brigo, who would
[54:58] Speaker 1: have thought?
[55:00] Speaker 2: Respect?
[55:00] Speaker 1: We thought we liked all the all the all the
[55:02] Speaker 1: bros and the Chads and the showden Anime. But the
[55:04] Speaker 1: parts I liked about these showden Anime where there was
[55:06] Speaker 1: the romance clearly clearly where are we We're albably twenty
[55:12] Speaker 1: four mob Psycho was just another anime where it's just like, ah,
[55:15] Speaker 1: it's the closest I could give to a ten out
[55:16] Speaker 1: of ten, you know, just absolutely perfect.
[55:19] Speaker 2: I'd probably have Mob in like my top ten. Like
[55:21] Speaker 2: I love Mob. I think it's I enjoy it quite
[55:24] Speaker 2: a bit more even than One punch Man, Like it's just, uh,
[55:27] Speaker 2: it's one of those series that just feels like the
[55:28] Speaker 2: complete package. Like I said, it's just a coming up
[55:31] Speaker 2: age story done really well, right, So him trying to
[55:34] Speaker 2: find himself and become like a more confident in his
[55:38] Speaker 2: own skin and the things around that.
[55:40] Speaker 1: So my memory is so bad. What's Mob's mentor's name?
[55:44] Speaker 3: Reagan? Reagan.
[55:45] Speaker 1: Reagan's one of my favorite characters, even though I couldn't
[55:47] Speaker 1: remember his name, not just in Mob Psycho, but just
[55:49] Speaker 1: in anime in general. I feel like I'm a little
[55:53] Speaker 1: bit relatable too. I kind of I feel like I
[55:55] Speaker 1: relate to Reagan in a few ways, as as an
[55:56] Speaker 1: older man trying to figure out his life and make it.
[56:00] Speaker 2: Make it till you make it right and yeah, and
[56:02] Speaker 2: it's one of those things where it kind of goes
[56:04] Speaker 2: back to what we were saying at the very start
[56:06] Speaker 2: of this Rank Cafe episode, right as far as a
[56:08] Speaker 2: good student teacher relationship is going to have, you know,
[56:12] Speaker 2: the student learning a lot, but also the teacher learning
[56:14] Speaker 2: as well alongside him. And I feel like that's what
[56:16] Speaker 2: we get with Mob in Reagan, right, So whichever one
[56:18] Speaker 2: you relate to more at whatever point you're at in
[56:20] Speaker 2: your life, there's gonna be something to latch onto.
[56:22] Speaker 3: There as you go through their journey.
[56:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's true.
[56:26] Speaker 2: Reagan matures a lot over the course of the series too.
[56:28] Speaker 1: So oh my god, and season two, especially his relationship
[56:31] Speaker 1: between Reagan and Mob is just so beautifully done.
[56:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's season two.
[56:37] Speaker 3: I think.
[56:39] Speaker 2: It was still still probably my favorite season if I
[56:41] Speaker 2: had to choose, especially like the midway points in it,
[56:44] Speaker 2: like episodes like four through eight, especially just top tier
[56:49] Speaker 2: anime ten out of ten. But yeah, overall, just still
[56:53] Speaker 2: the whole series in its entirety just feels like a
[56:55] Speaker 2: complete package.
[56:56] Speaker 3: So love Mob, love Reagan.
[56:59] Speaker 2: Not much else to say that aside from uh, it's
[57:01] Speaker 2: also just given like a very high quality adaptation by
[57:03] Speaker 2: Studio Bones, like as far as frames per second or whatnot,
[57:07] Speaker 2: Like the the amount of animation with those simple character designs.
[57:10] Speaker 2: They went above and beyond. Oh, it's one of the
[57:12] Speaker 2: best shows I've seen.
[57:13] Speaker 1: I agree it was. It was beautifully animated, but in
[57:16] Speaker 1: a different way than something like Demon Slayer. It was
[57:18] Speaker 1: a different type of polished and it was a type
[57:20] Speaker 1: of animation that I love, like it still felt very
[57:22] Speaker 1: two D in nature.
[57:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, and there there's a lot of shows that look
[57:29] Speaker 2: good or look pretty, especially like with like with like
[57:31] Speaker 2: with vinlind Saga and whatnot, where it's almost like hyper
[57:34] Speaker 2: realistic at times.
[57:35] Speaker 3: But there's not like a lot of movement.
[57:36] Speaker 2: But then you get the complete opposite with mob right,
[57:38] Speaker 2: where the characters designs are so simple and so you know,
[57:42] Speaker 2: just kind of cartoony in general, but because of that,
[57:44] Speaker 2: they're able to do so much with it, right and
[57:47] Speaker 2: just go above and beyond, like it some of the
[57:49] Speaker 2: action sequences to the stage still just like blow me away,
[57:51] Speaker 2: Like some of those fights at the end of season
[57:53] Speaker 2: two are some of the best fights probably I've seen
[57:55] Speaker 2: an anime. Right, Uh, I'm thinking about the one with
[57:58] Speaker 2: like the the guy that can like teleport and all
[58:00] Speaker 2: that tell me that's not one of the best spits
[58:02] Speaker 2: in anime, right, So it's another stolet pick crazy shame,
[58:06] Speaker 2: this one's only at twenty four.
[58:07] Speaker 3: That's what I'm going to roast you for.
[58:08] Speaker 1: This is I was just thinking the same thing. I
[58:11] Speaker 1: don't even want to argue back. I'm like, this could
[58:12] Speaker 1: be higher.
[58:13] Speaker 3: Yeah, this could be It's like my top ten. So
[58:15] Speaker 3: I love Mob.
[58:16] Speaker 1: Maybe I'll swap Mob Psycho with Brasik nineteen ninety seven.
[58:22] Speaker 1: I think it's a part of me that puts Berserk
[58:24] Speaker 1: there just because I feel like it should be there
[58:25] Speaker 1: based on the manga, even though it's an anime list.
[58:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I mean that's fair.
[58:30] Speaker 2: I give the Berserk anime like a solid like seven
[58:33] Speaker 2: out of ten in my mind, and then I have
[58:35] Speaker 2: like the manga in my top probably not my top
[58:38] Speaker 2: number one spot, right, so it's like definitely top five,
[58:40] Speaker 2: but my favorite manga of all time. So it's it's
[58:42] Speaker 2: hard to differentiate the two a little bit though.
[58:44] Speaker 1: For sure, High Q at number twenty five, which will
[58:48] Speaker 1: be the last anime we're talking about, We're about to
[58:50] Speaker 1: hit the hour market, which is perfect timing. High Q
[58:53] Speaker 1: is a sports anime. It's an absolute classic sports anime,
[58:56] Speaker 1: and it maybe helps that I play volleyball, but I
[58:59] Speaker 1: think even if you don't play volleyball, it's just the team,
[59:02] Speaker 1: The team itself is so fantastic together. It's not just
[59:06] Speaker 1: following the journey of one kid that could jump high.
[59:09] Speaker 1: It's following the journey of the squad, and they're ups
[59:11] Speaker 1: and downs together.
[59:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not just that it does a good job
[59:18] Speaker 2: of like having a whole cast of characters from other
[59:19] Speaker 2: schools as well, kind of like it makes you care
[59:22] Speaker 2: about who they're playing against, so you're invested regardless in
[59:25] Speaker 2: every single match. And then, uh, I don't know, Hiq's
[59:29] Speaker 2: one of those I love sports series. I'm gonna be
[59:31] Speaker 2: biased there. I've also read all of Hiq. I've watched
[59:34] Speaker 2: all the Hiq. I love it a lot, But it
[59:38] Speaker 2: doesn't try to do anything that like subverts expectations in
[59:42] Speaker 2: a lot of ways. It just feels like a very
[59:44] Speaker 2: highly polished sports anime, right, Like, it just feels like
[59:46] Speaker 2: one of the best that the genre has to offer
[59:49] Speaker 2: in a very straightforward way, and nothing wrong with that. Like,
[59:51] Speaker 2: I love it so it's it would definitely be like
[59:53] Speaker 2: in my top five sports anime probably all the time.
[59:56] Speaker 1: Hell yeah, you'd love to see it, all right, it's
[1:00:00] Speaker 1: my top twenty five favorite anime. I hope you hope
[1:00:02] Speaker 1: you guys got some anime recommendations or got something to do,
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: agreed or disagreed with. We're gonna go through twenty six
[1:00:07] Speaker 1: through fifty. Maybe next week that might be the plan.
[1:00:11] Speaker 2: It sounds good to me. I'm always down the yap
[1:00:13] Speaker 2: about anime. But I will say, hopefully the list gets worse,
[1:00:16] Speaker 2: because roasting me if not roasting you enough. This is
[1:00:19] Speaker 2: I said I was going to roast you. I was
[1:00:21] Speaker 2: hoping for some worse taste here.
[1:00:22] Speaker 1: I mean, it's my top twenty five. I would hope
[1:00:24] Speaker 1: it would be pretty decent. But yeah, twenty six through fifty,
[1:00:27] Speaker 1: maybe he could actually do his job this time and
[1:00:30] Speaker 1: roast me. But yeah, I hope everyone enjoyed. And also
[1:00:33] Speaker 1: the fact that it's sys me and Jordan for a
[1:00:35] Speaker 1: little bit. It doesn't need to be Sunday at one o'clock.
[1:00:37] Speaker 1: We could kind of move around our schedules and figure
[1:00:40] Speaker 1: something out a lot easier, you know.
[1:00:43] Speaker 3: Yeah, let me know what works best for you.
[1:00:44] Speaker 1: Hell yeah, I mean even like a weeknight or Saturday
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: or Sunday, whatever, it doesn't matter. Now we don't need
[1:00:50] Speaker 1: to keep it below before one. Yeah, which is fantastic
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: because like I'm available to like make Yeah, time zones
[1:00:55] Speaker 1: make it rough. We're like only one hour apart, so
[1:00:57] Speaker 1: we could do like a three pm, we could do
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: a seven pm. You know, like it's a lot easier.
[1:01:02] Speaker 2: You seven pm. I'm in bed by that time. What
[1:01:05] Speaker 2: are you talking about.
[1:01:05] Speaker 1: That's why I didn't say nine.
[1:01:07] Speaker 2: I was say nine.
[1:01:07] Speaker 1: I'm like, maybe i'll say seven for for Jordan. Anyway,
[1:01:12] Speaker 1: I hope you guys. I hope you guys enjoyed shinpock
[1:01:15] Speaker 1: you and I'll see you all next time.
[1:01:17] Speaker 2: Wait, everybody bite
