[0:00] Speaker 1: Is it mayo pizza.
[0:01] Speaker 2: No, it's not male pizza. It'll never it'll never be
[0:04] Speaker 2: male pizza. Actually, Yo, what is up? Boys? How's it going?
[0:09] Speaker 2: And welcome back to another episode of the Rant Cafe
[0:13] Speaker 2: Anime podcast. I said, cafe Cafe. Okay, anyway, today we're
[0:18] Speaker 2: talking about anime. We made each other watch anime again, Recon.
[0:22] Speaker 2: I believe I suggested your anime, which was King's Avatar,
[0:27] Speaker 2: which is which is an esports anime, but it's also
[0:30] Speaker 2: like a Chinese anime. I don't remember this was a
[0:32] Speaker 2: specific word for it. I don't remember. Yeah, whatever that is. Jordan,
[0:39] Speaker 2: the anime dude, recommended another one of those I believe
[0:43] Speaker 2: called Ringing Fate. What up you Ordan? How you doing?
[0:46] Speaker 3: Yes, sir, what up? Everybody? Happy to be here?
[0:50] Speaker 2: And then I recommended Ping Pong the animation which don't
[0:55] Speaker 2: don't do don't make those sounds. Don't make those sounds.
[0:58] Speaker 2: Don't make those sounds. On how are you? How are
[1:01] Speaker 2: you doing today, Recon?
[1:03] Speaker 1: I'm doing fine, Thank you.
[1:04] Speaker 4: I'm so glad to be here to talk about anime
[1:07] Speaker 4: once again and suffer with the boys, because, yeah, we
[1:10] Speaker 4: got some discussions to talk about, especially for Briggs' recommendation, Yeah,
[1:15] Speaker 4: let's do it.
[1:16] Speaker 2: But also Recon is continuing to watch Berserk nineteen ninety
[1:21] Speaker 2: seven and I woke up to a message today saying
[1:24] Speaker 2: Berserk was amazing this week. Wowie, this show is starting
[1:27] Speaker 2: to make me realize who the true Black Swordsman really is.
[1:30] Speaker 2: And I will say, ah, that got me going, that
[1:34] Speaker 2: got me fired up. Let's talk about anime, do we
[1:37] Speaker 2: What do we want to start with today? Guys? What
[1:38] Speaker 2: are we thinking?
[1:39] Speaker 3: I mean this episode was sponsored by China, so two
[1:43] Speaker 3: and a half. Yeah, we want to start with the
[1:45] Speaker 3: one that's that Briggs recommended, or.
[1:47] Speaker 2: Sure, the King's Avatar.
[1:50] Speaker 1: That's my recommendation.
[1:51] Speaker 2: That is Recon's recommendation from me, whichever one you guys want, Okay,
[1:57] Speaker 2: King's Avatar? I kind of hate did it?
[2:01] Speaker 3: Did bet say?
[2:02] Speaker 2: Had you even watched this one though? Or Riecon has
[2:04] Speaker 2: watched it? Ricon has watched it?
[2:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
[2:09] Speaker 2: I'm not a fan. It was very nice looking, but
[2:14] Speaker 2: something about a show where he's just like, I'm the best,
[2:16] Speaker 2: but he's not even like saying it, but it's just
[2:19] Speaker 2: like everything. Obviously, he was kind of forced to retire
[2:24] Speaker 2: due to circumstances that I can't even perfectly remember. And
[2:28] Speaker 2: then he just went and continued playing the game that
[2:30] Speaker 2: he retired from under a new alias, and people didn't
[2:33] Speaker 2: really know who he was. But he's still the best
[2:34] Speaker 2: because it's been playing for ten years. And it's just
[2:37] Speaker 2: like these mild, just constant flexes of like just I
[2:40] Speaker 2: don't know. I didn't really It looked cool, It had
[2:43] Speaker 2: some good animation. I liked the scenery, the interactions between
[2:48] Speaker 2: the boss and the main character. Yee yay, whatever his
[2:51] Speaker 2: name is, we're kind of cool. But for the most part,
[2:55] Speaker 2: I wasn't invested in the story and like the game
[2:58] Speaker 2: at all.
[3:00] Speaker 1: Okay, that's surprising.
[3:02] Speaker 4: I genuinely thought you'd like it because it is very
[3:05] Speaker 4: popular and highly rated.
[3:08] Speaker 3: You know, it makes me so happy that you say that, Virgo,
[3:11] Speaker 3: because I'm not gonna lie. This show was asked this
[3:14] Speaker 3: was this might be like the worst thing we've watched. Like, man,
[3:20] Speaker 3: I I'm not gonna lie. I never really look up
[3:22] Speaker 3: for reviews of shows, but this one I felt so
[3:24] Speaker 3: gas lit that I had to like look up afterwards.
[3:26] Speaker 3: I'm like, am I the only one that hated this?
[3:28] Speaker 3: And I only really see positive reviews.
[3:29] Speaker 1: For it, bro, there is so much positivity. How can
[3:32] Speaker 1: you guys hate it?
[3:33] Speaker 3: Go Like Okay, I guess what I did like about
[3:36] Speaker 3: it was like the soundtrack was okay for like some
[3:38] Speaker 3: of those slower moments, there was a little bit of
[3:40] Speaker 3: ambiance there, like the backgrounds were pretty good looking, and
[3:45] Speaker 3: then like anytime stuff was actually happening, I just hated it.
[3:48] Speaker 3: Like it was like I feel like I'm probably the
[3:50] Speaker 3: opposite of most people in that regard, because I'm sure
[3:52] Speaker 3: most people don't like those quieter moments and they want
[3:55] Speaker 3: to see overpowered band character winning the game easy. But
[4:00] Speaker 3: I don't know, I hated it so much genuinely.
[4:05] Speaker 4: I don't think I'm the only person that has bad
[4:07] Speaker 4: taste around here.
[4:08] Speaker 3: Oh God, maybe maybe.
[4:10] Speaker 2: It gets better. Maybe it gets better, because I agree
[4:12] Speaker 2: with Jordan regards like some of the moments between like
[4:14] Speaker 2: the boss and our main character, the quieter moments with her,
[4:17] Speaker 2: like falling asleep and him putting the jacket on continue
[4:20] Speaker 2: the game all night and then crashing and falling asleep afterwards,
[4:24] Speaker 2: like some like those things like oh, there's potential here,
[4:27] Speaker 2: and then he just goes into the game and he's
[4:29] Speaker 2: just flexing on everybody, and I don't know. I was
[4:32] Speaker 2: I was bored.
[4:33] Speaker 3: Granted, I don't have a lot of experience with games
[4:35] Speaker 3: like that. I've played a couple like Tower of God,
[4:38] Speaker 3: where it's like mostly like a an MMO type thing,
[4:41] Speaker 3: but you do do like dungeon diving with a with
[4:43] Speaker 3: like a party of people and you're hoping you get
[4:45] Speaker 3: good drops. And so maybe it's like a lack of
[4:47] Speaker 3: experience with games like that and like a pro scene
[4:50] Speaker 3: like that, But I don't know. Overall, I just I
[4:53] Speaker 3: had so much trouble getting into it. I was so
[4:55] Speaker 3: ready to binge all a ping pong, but I watched
[4:57] Speaker 3: this first and then it's like I was strugg to
[5:00] Speaker 3: get through it. It took up too much time. I
[5:02] Speaker 3: did like an hour long break between every episode.
[5:05] Speaker 2: Recon what do you like about it?
[5:07] Speaker 4: I'm genuinely surprised, Like I like, we were talking about
[5:13] Speaker 4: all this Chinese animation and stuff, and then Brake suddenly said, like,
[5:17] Speaker 4: why don't you recommend kings Avatar. I was like, yea, yeah,
[5:19] Speaker 4: that that's a great recommendation. Yeah they would like that.
[5:22] Speaker 4: But then you both are saying you hate it.
[5:24] Speaker 1: That means that.
[5:26] Speaker 4: If I, if I literally recommend any other good Chinese animation,
[5:29] Speaker 4: you guys are just gonna hate it.
[5:31] Speaker 1: Then if you don't like this, you will hate the others.
[5:34] Speaker 1: I'm serious.
[5:36] Speaker 3: You never know that.
[5:37] Speaker 2: But we typically, I feel like, don't like the main
[5:41] Speaker 2: character and what's going on with him in the game,
[5:43] Speaker 2: we're not as into. So maybe a different, like a
[5:46] Speaker 2: different Chinese anime that's not an esports anime might might
[5:51] Speaker 2: work for us. Because then again, Jordan's is that it
[5:54] Speaker 2: was a Chinese anime.
[5:55] Speaker 3: Jordan's recommendation, yeah, so okay, And also this one was
[5:58] Speaker 3: a bit cheesy, and and maybe it's just like the
[6:01] Speaker 3: style of presentation. But like, have you guys ever watched
[6:03] Speaker 3: like those like Moby Sides I think it's called or something.
[6:07] Speaker 3: Have you ever been scrolling through a short surreel and
[6:09] Speaker 3: you get like an ad for like melodramatic h like
[6:14] Speaker 3: Asian drama like live action where it's like no, I'm
[6:20] Speaker 3: never I'm rich, but everybody thinks I'm poor or whatever,
[6:23] Speaker 3: and they just keep like it's it's like, uh, like
[6:26] Speaker 3: Darman type stuff like where it's like that's that's kind
[6:32] Speaker 3: of what it felt like. Some of the scenes where
[6:34] Speaker 3: like it has like that Uh, it's like has this
[6:38] Speaker 3: hint of maturity, like it's trying to act like it,
[6:40] Speaker 3: but it's like really not. I don't I don't know
[6:42] Speaker 3: it was.
[6:43] Speaker 4: I assume that you you both just don't like the
[6:46] Speaker 4: type of the overpowered protagonist from the get go things,
[6:50] Speaker 4: So I get it.
[6:51] Speaker 1: It's it's fine personally for me.
[6:53] Speaker 3: I like this stuff.
[6:55] Speaker 1: I quite like it.
[6:56] Speaker 4: I mean, I like the direction that it was going
[6:58] Speaker 4: when I first watched it. You know, a badass gamer
[7:02] Speaker 4: and he's like super good at the game. He retires,
[7:04] Speaker 4: and then later on he just goes on a fucking
[7:08] Speaker 4: smurf account and just destroys everyone with picking the weakest class.
[7:12] Speaker 4: Like I thought that was badass, like held business class.
[7:16] Speaker 2: How is it the weakest class? Is what I don't get.
[7:18] Speaker 3: Like, literally, I don't know.
[7:20] Speaker 1: That's the thing. I genuinely don't know how. He's a
[7:22] Speaker 1: fucking alass makes it.
[7:25] Speaker 4: He makes it, he makes it look broken.
[7:27] Speaker 1: I'm just I'm serious, I need to make so good.
[7:30] Speaker 3: I didn't mind that part because he did have like
[7:32] Speaker 3: an understanding of the game because he's played it for
[7:34] Speaker 3: ten years, so he's probably able to make the most
[7:36] Speaker 3: of every class. I think there is a bit of
[7:38] Speaker 3: thought there. Yeah, and then uh, I guess, to like
[7:41] Speaker 3: clarify my point from earlier, I guess the thing that
[7:43] Speaker 3: made me think of like the uh the k drama
[7:45] Speaker 3: type stuff was whenever he's sitting in the cafe with
[7:48] Speaker 3: the boss lady and he's like, oh, yeah, by the way,
[7:51] Speaker 3: I am that pro that like retired. She's like, no,
[7:53] Speaker 3: you're not. And then like she sees him going, she's like,
[7:55] Speaker 3: you're not good even though like he's sitting there dominating.
[7:57] Speaker 3: It's like it's like that type of thing.
[7:59] Speaker 2: He's breaking happen. He's like he done like three first uh,
[8:04] Speaker 2: like first kills on bosses that no one's killed before
[8:06] Speaker 2: that are new. He broke a time record, and he's
[8:10] Speaker 2: he destroyed her friend and and she's still like, yeah,
[8:13] Speaker 2: you're not that guy.
[8:14] Speaker 4: He's just walking. He's just walking in the lobby and
[8:17] Speaker 4: everyone's looking at him. They're like, who the fuck is
[8:19] Speaker 4: this guy.
[8:20] Speaker 3: There's a lot of overpowered protagonist type anime where they
[8:23] Speaker 3: try to hide the fact that there were a power.
[8:24] Speaker 3: He doesn't hide it or anything. He just like but
[8:27] Speaker 3: like he's just shown believe it, right, And then that
[8:30] Speaker 3: and then uh, whenever he retired and they announced on TV.
[8:33] Speaker 3: Everybody cried like that just sounds like one of those
[8:35] Speaker 3: stories off like and then everybody cried, like the whole
[8:39] Speaker 3: world stopped and just shed a tear attire. I don't know.
[8:42] Speaker 4: It was funny, bro, because he's the best in the
[8:44] Speaker 4: world and they're so upset there.
[8:48] Speaker 2: Like I don't even remember like exactly why he was retired.
[8:50] Speaker 1: I know, like don't remember. His team was doing.
[8:52] Speaker 2: Some stuff like for for money that he didn't like,
[8:55] Speaker 2: and they wanted to use his, uh someone else's face
[8:58] Speaker 2: and then him playing or something, and he just wasn't
[9:00] Speaker 2: about it, so he had to have Yeah, I don't
[9:03] Speaker 2: know exactly what happened.
[9:05] Speaker 3: But they didn't really have like a good reason that
[9:06] Speaker 3: they showed for it, right, It was like a business
[9:08] Speaker 3: numer Yeah.
[9:10] Speaker 2: But like if he's the best in the world and
[9:11] Speaker 2: he's able to make all this money for you guys,
[9:13] Speaker 2: it's like these two guys, these two guys thought they
[9:16] Speaker 2: were so slick trying to make money off of him.
[9:18] Speaker 2: They could have made the money off of him normally
[9:21] Speaker 2: he was a.
[9:21] Speaker 3: Three time champ, Like they just had a three pet Apparently.
[9:24] Speaker 1: They're they're just his teammates. Too jealous.
[9:27] Speaker 4: His teammates are just too too jealous, so they decide to,
[9:29] Speaker 4: you know, try to sabotage the whole thing.
[9:31] Speaker 1: But it is what it is.
[9:35] Speaker 2: He has no money after all this, either because he
[9:37] Speaker 2: was supporting his friends that like didn't make it in gaming,
[9:40] Speaker 2: and now he's working.
[9:41] Speaker 4: He retired, he lost all his sponsorships. He's this anime
[9:45] Speaker 4: is basically like zero.
[9:47] Speaker 1: Two hero type shit, you know what I mean?
[9:49] Speaker 3: Yeah, another thing I thought was kind of weird. He
[9:52] Speaker 3: maybe it's maybe my lack of understanding, and the only
[9:55] Speaker 3: one I thought it was weird. He was like, so
[9:56] Speaker 3: are you guys hiring like for like the night manager
[9:58] Speaker 3: or what have you, And like he technically like apply,
[10:01] Speaker 3: like applies, talks to the girl whatever. He's supposedly working there,
[10:05] Speaker 3: but he's just since there gaming all night, yeah, every night,
[10:08] Speaker 3: like that, Like that's the job.
[10:11] Speaker 2: I mean, I do think some of those like night
[10:13] Speaker 2: places like that, I could imagine the job is just
[10:16] Speaker 2: they need someone there, they need a worker there just
[10:19] Speaker 2: to sit there and whatever. And he just sits there
[10:22] Speaker 2: and games the entire time, I suppose.
[10:23] Speaker 3: Right, But like usually there's at least a little bit
[10:27] Speaker 3: of something else.
[10:28] Speaker 2: It would have been like, oh, he's gaming and then
[10:31] Speaker 2: gets up and like takes out the.
[10:32] Speaker 3: Trash, you know, yeah, like to do the register like
[10:34] Speaker 3: once or something. Yeah, something besides it just going out somatly.
[10:40] Speaker 2: Like like he's gaming and then like people are walking
[10:42] Speaker 2: in and they need to scan in and he's just like,
[10:44] Speaker 2: you know what, you guys should let yourselves in. I
[10:46] Speaker 2: don't care, like some type something with the Internet cafe
[10:50] Speaker 2: was like the most interesting part to me, And that's
[10:52] Speaker 2: a great point that there was. He just went there
[10:54] Speaker 2: and gamed and did nothing else.
[10:56] Speaker 3: But which granted there is like a prequel movie and
[10:58] Speaker 3: then there's like three seasons of this and.
[11:01] Speaker 1: Like yeah, yeah they have. There's a lot of seasons
[11:05] Speaker 1: for this.
[11:06] Speaker 4: That's why that's why I was telling you guys, because
[11:08] Speaker 4: this is so highly rated of a series, they kept
[11:10] Speaker 4: making more seasons because it's just too good.
[11:13] Speaker 3: Yeah, which I don't understand it, but like that's what
[11:16] Speaker 3: I'm saying is like at least there's stuff out there, right,
[11:18] Speaker 3: So there's we're probably not getting the whole picture.
[11:20] Speaker 4: But now I know you both hated and the big
[11:22] Speaker 4: question is what would you give a rating for the
[11:24] Speaker 4: show based on the first episode I.
[11:27] Speaker 3: Gave it a one point out of ten.
[11:29] Speaker 2: Wow, I want to bring my down to three.
[11:34] Speaker 3: Which, like I said, it had those soft moments that
[11:37] Speaker 3: like looked decent, like the I love the backgrounds. The
[11:39] Speaker 3: backgrounds were great, and they had some good soft music
[11:42] Speaker 3: kind of plan as it like panned over those. So
[11:44] Speaker 3: that was that was what bumped my score up.
[11:45] Speaker 2: I like the scenery. I don't know how they did
[11:47] Speaker 2: the scenery with type of different technology or type of thing.
[11:50] Speaker 2: I like the scenery. That's the point.
[11:53] Speaker 4: That's what Chinese production studios do. Man, They're really good, right.
[11:58] Speaker 2: Right, Well, speaking of questions, Jordan's recommendation Ringing Fate.
[12:05] Speaker 3: Ringing the Fate, which I'm gonna be honest, was the
[12:08] Speaker 3: show I hadn't even seen yet. I knew a little
[12:10] Speaker 3: bit about episode one prior to like recommending it, but uh,
[12:14] Speaker 3: but yeah, I'm interested to hear what you guys thought
[12:15] Speaker 3: about it.
[12:18] Speaker 1: Briggs, you can go first if you want to do so.
[12:21] Speaker 2: The first like ten minutes, I'm like, what the fuck
[12:23] Speaker 2: is this the show that Jordan recommended? Is this the
[12:25] Speaker 2: right one? Am I watching the right one? I'm like,
[12:28] Speaker 2: what is this?
[12:30] Speaker 3: Like?
[12:30] Speaker 2: It just looks like a cartoon.
[12:32] Speaker 3: But the art sound is very cheebiush right.
[12:37] Speaker 2: In art style. But as time went on throughout the episode,
[12:41] Speaker 2: you learn about the world what Coong is. It's like
[12:44] Speaker 2: an after life where you wake up with no memory.
[12:47] Speaker 2: There is these tournament or like fights that go on
[12:50] Speaker 2: and you're wagering a currency and memories that it's a
[12:56] Speaker 2: resourced tied to memories, and you learn more about went
[13:01] Speaker 2: through these characters. They were humans in their past life
[13:05] Speaker 2: and they all went to this afterlife calm after they
[13:09] Speaker 2: died and then this in this life after life, they
[13:11] Speaker 2: have this cheeby form, but they were all humans. So
[13:14] Speaker 2: you have these characters that you're not super no, they
[13:16] Speaker 2: don't know them super well, you're not super attached to
[13:19] Speaker 2: and through like them recalling what happened in their past life,
[13:23] Speaker 2: you kind of get more attached to them. And then
[13:25] Speaker 2: they lose those memories and stuff like that when they
[13:27] Speaker 2: lose fights, and I guess the overall goal is to
[13:31] Speaker 2: make enough of this currency to go to the gate.
[13:34] Speaker 2: Is that like an to go to heaven or like
[13:36] Speaker 2: another after life.
[13:37] Speaker 3: I think it's basically like reincarnation, reincarniate, So that's kind
[13:41] Speaker 3: of the goal.
[13:42] Speaker 2: And I was say, like ten minutes in.
[13:44] Speaker 1: It's a cool concept.
[13:45] Speaker 2: Yeah, very cool concept. But I just want to say,
[13:47] Speaker 2: ten minutes in, I'm like, what the fuck's going on?
[13:49] Speaker 2: By episode three and the end of episode three, it
[13:52] Speaker 2: was amazing. I loved it.
[13:54] Speaker 4: Bro.
[13:54] Speaker 3: Episode three got to me. I was kind of the
[13:57] Speaker 3: same way, Like I thought it was pretty good, just
[13:59] Speaker 3: very polished and how it looks like it very fluid
[14:02] Speaker 3: for the action scenes and whatnot, very expressive little interactions
[14:06] Speaker 3: they had, Like it was cute. And I knew going
[14:08] Speaker 3: in that they had live action shots for the memories
[14:11] Speaker 3: and whatnot because main girls like a hospital bound and whatnot.
[14:16] Speaker 3: We find that out in episode one, so like she
[14:17] Speaker 3: didn't really have a lot of memories from that life
[14:20] Speaker 3: that uh, but got seeing that play out the way
[14:24] Speaker 3: it did in episode three. Like I didn't expect to
[14:26] Speaker 3: love it as much as I did. I'm not gonna lie.
[14:28] Speaker 2: So just for reference for people, how do I how
[14:32] Speaker 2: do I explain this? So yeah, our main Oh. Now,
[14:36] Speaker 2: another cool thing about the memories is that you only
[14:39] Speaker 2: really kept the memories that you liked, and then the
[14:41] Speaker 2: ones that you didn't like you kind of didn't include.
[14:44] Speaker 2: So one of the characters is a dad and like
[14:48] Speaker 2: he had all these memories with his daughter, and then
[14:50] Speaker 2: the daughter in the reincarnating world had no memories with
[14:52] Speaker 2: the father because she had a very traumatic upbringing, had
[14:55] Speaker 2: a traumatic way to die and was killed and stuff
[14:57] Speaker 2: like that with her dad. There, so like the different perspectives.
[15:02] Speaker 2: Oh my god, bro, she.
[15:03] Speaker 4: Gets abandoned and like nobody loves her. That's how she
[15:06] Speaker 4: ended up in this world.
[15:09] Speaker 2: The main character.
[15:10] Speaker 3: About the main character, Yeah, the main character.
[15:12] Speaker 1: She gets abandoned.
[15:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, anyway, recon what are your thoughts on ringing Fate.
[15:18] Speaker 4: I like the concept that you explained obviously, and the
[15:22] Speaker 4: whole thing is just about boxing and all that stuff
[15:26] Speaker 4: that this protagonist because because of her tragic past and
[15:31] Speaker 4: all that, she picks up boxing all of a sudden
[15:33] Speaker 4: to try and let all these emotions out. And I
[15:37] Speaker 4: like the way this is going so far. How she
[15:39] Speaker 4: finds this piece of helmet that talks. It's it's a
[15:43] Speaker 4: bit annoying.
[15:43] Speaker 1: But it's good. I like it. And with the helmet
[15:46] Speaker 1: she powers up.
[15:47] Speaker 4: She turns into this big gega chat form and just
[15:50] Speaker 4: destroys everyone.
[15:52] Speaker 1: And yeah, it's cool.
[15:55] Speaker 2: I like it.
[15:56] Speaker 1: Good action scenes and all of that.
[15:58] Speaker 2: It's interesting. The dynamic between the helmet and this character
[16:02] Speaker 2: and this main character.
[16:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, and I, like I said, I still haven't seen
[16:06] Speaker 3: all of this myself, so take it with a grain
[16:08] Speaker 3: of salt. But I do like a couple of the
[16:10] Speaker 3: concepts that threw in there, as far as uh, the
[16:13] Speaker 3: guy that was like a bear, and like the people
[16:15] Speaker 3: that are less human looking, it's like based on it's
[16:19] Speaker 3: kind of based on how they were in their previous life.
[16:21] Speaker 3: So like we see that that robot helmet thing is
[16:23] Speaker 3: like a person, right, but like how he ended up
[16:26] Speaker 3: that way, it must be related to kind of however
[16:28] Speaker 3: he was in his past life, right, So we don't
[16:30] Speaker 3: know that yet.
[16:31] Speaker 2: But and also the amount of memories you keep and
[16:34] Speaker 2: the amount of currency you have is based on your
[16:38] Speaker 2: actions in your past life as well.
[16:40] Speaker 3: Correct, Yeah, and then they go for it recom.
[16:45] Speaker 4: I was about to say, they wager all that currency
[16:47] Speaker 4: in the boxing matches as well.
[16:49] Speaker 1: So you know how that.
[16:51] Speaker 4: That that guy with the main character, he fucking betrayed
[16:55] Speaker 4: her in.
[16:55] Speaker 2: The end, bro Oh yeah, betray in the.
[17:00] Speaker 4: He wagered all of her ship so that he can
[17:03] Speaker 4: win and beat her down.
[17:04] Speaker 3: But Kara karama yea karama.
[17:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, karma came quick for there, but like, honestly, like, yeah,
[17:12] Speaker 2: a new person in a new world. Like, I like
[17:15] Speaker 2: the realistic aspect of this, especially when you're when they're
[17:17] Speaker 2: dealing with like life and death. Here people are stumbaggs
[17:21] Speaker 2: and are going to take advantage of those newbies that
[17:23] Speaker 2: come into the world with no memories.
[17:25] Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm not that kind of comedy by surprise.
[17:27] Speaker 3: And then uh got as far as seeing the good
[17:30] Speaker 3: humanity though, O can we talk a little bit about
[17:32] Speaker 3: episode three because the other part about the system of
[17:36] Speaker 3: how things works that I really find engaging is that subconsciously,
[17:41] Speaker 3: you know, the more that stuff or the the more
[17:44] Speaker 3: kan or whatever you have, the more memories you have,
[17:46] Speaker 3: the you know, the less you lose your memories. But
[17:49] Speaker 3: subconsciously the memories that you keep, it's not like you choose, right,
[17:52] Speaker 3: it's like whatever you want.
[17:53] Speaker 2: To keep the most.
[17:55] Speaker 3: So episode three, the directions that it took the fact
[17:58] Speaker 3: that his daughter didn't really want to remember you know,
[18:01] Speaker 3: her dad or like how she learned boxing or whatnot.
[18:03] Speaker 3: But for him, we see the very last things that
[18:06] Speaker 3: he remembered, and like the last things he remembered, they
[18:08] Speaker 3: weren't like the glory days or anything. Uh, reminiscent of that.
[18:12] Speaker 3: It was like those painful memories of like how he
[18:15] Speaker 3: let his family down and how he wants to do
[18:17] Speaker 3: goodbye them, like even even in the past, like he
[18:20] Speaker 3: wants to give his daughter another chance at life because
[18:23] Speaker 3: he feels like he let her down. So it was
[18:25] Speaker 3: episode like broke me man, I don't know.
[18:28] Speaker 2: It was beautiful, Jordan, and I love the fact that
[18:30] Speaker 2: this guy who was a boxer in his past life
[18:32] Speaker 2: would fight other people, win the currency, the kwan or whatever,
[18:36] Speaker 2: and then go and fight his daughter and lose, basically
[18:40] Speaker 2: giving her the money that he couldn't give her in
[18:43] Speaker 2: his like when in his past life, giving her the
[18:45] Speaker 2: opportunity to have another chance at life and reincarnate or
[18:49] Speaker 2: go whatever other after life or another version of life
[18:52] Speaker 2: that there is after this Kong. Honestly, it was beautiful.
[18:54] Speaker 2: I was so sad at the end of the episode
[18:56] Speaker 2: because he's basically dead, right, I didn't watch up before.
[18:58] Speaker 3: It was basically I've watched Epistood four either, but that's
[19:01] Speaker 3: the same impression I got. Yeah, and then uh, it's
[19:04] Speaker 3: it's weird because the director, like I said, I haven't
[19:07] Speaker 3: watched a ton of his other stuff, but it's the
[19:08] Speaker 3: same guy that did Link Click and it's the same
[19:10] Speaker 3: guy that did to Be hero X, which is you know,
[19:12] Speaker 3: it also has a bunch of different styles between two, D,
[19:16] Speaker 3: three D, et cetera. So it's like the chib cutiness
[19:20] Speaker 3: is so over the top that I feel like it
[19:22] Speaker 3: just contrasts really well with like going from that to
[19:26] Speaker 3: like live action for like the uh for the other
[19:28] Speaker 3: segment of it, right, so like going back and forth.
[19:30] Speaker 3: It's weird, it's unique, and it's.
[19:33] Speaker 4: I don't know, I just know to Be hero X
[19:36] Speaker 4: doesn't way better though, with the transitions between.
[19:38] Speaker 3: May two maybe, but I will say even if people
[19:42] Speaker 3: preferred to be hero X, the fact that this anime
[19:44] Speaker 3: fell so far under the radar is like criminal. Like
[19:47] Speaker 3: I checked yesterday on my anime list, two hundred and
[19:51] Speaker 3: forty nine people have this completed and on any list,
[19:53] Speaker 3: one hundred and thirty four have it listed as complete,
[19:55] Speaker 3: and it's like free and you little, Yeah, it's like
[19:58] Speaker 3: this is like the most I've ever watched, but like
[20:01] Speaker 3: it's so good quality wise, and.
[20:03] Speaker 1: Sub hero likes is super popular already.
[20:05] Speaker 3: Which is wow wild to me. Yeah, it's crazy.
[20:08] Speaker 2: So sometimes I use chat Ebt to remind me. I'm like,
[20:12] Speaker 2: what are the character names? Tell me what? Like the
[20:14] Speaker 2: summary of this show is again, please remind me of
[20:17] Speaker 2: what the fuck's going on. And it did it for
[20:19] Speaker 2: all of them, and then for Ringing Ringing Fate, it's like,
[20:22] Speaker 2: what the fuck is that? Like Chatcht didn't know what
[20:25] Speaker 2: Ringing Fate was and I'm like, it's a Chinese thing.
[20:28] Speaker 2: He's like, And then I linked it like, oh, this show,
[20:30] Speaker 2: like there's not enough online. People don't talk about this show.
[20:34] Speaker 2: It's crazy and it's so so good.
[20:37] Speaker 1: It's good. I liked it. Remember Jordan, when I typed
[20:39] Speaker 1: on the sport.
[20:40] Speaker 4: Asked, yeah, I was kind of lying about that it
[20:43] Speaker 4: was pretty hard.
[20:44] Speaker 3: I figured there's a chance you genuinely didn't like it
[20:47] Speaker 3: because I in my head I was thinking about the uh,
[20:50] Speaker 3: the live action shots and stuff whenever I recommended it,
[20:53] Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh, crap, this is very three D,
[20:56] Speaker 3: Like this is very uh it's good looking through.
[20:58] Speaker 4: Even yeah, but it's good looking. It's not crappy CGI,
[21:02] Speaker 4: it's really good.
[21:02] Speaker 3: Okay.
[21:03] Speaker 4: Yeah, I know a lot of people out there, you know,
[21:06] Speaker 4: struggle with Chinese animation or no Chinese anime in general
[21:10] Speaker 4: because of the of the way the characters talk. But
[21:12] Speaker 4: if you can, you know, get used to this. It's
[21:15] Speaker 4: it's worth it, trust me, very worth it.
[21:17] Speaker 3: And I always thought I also thought it was interesting
[21:20] Speaker 3: the opening and ending. Uh grant, I glanced whenever they
[21:25] Speaker 3: played on like whenever Briggs was watching it. And it's
[21:27] Speaker 3: in Japanese for like the new Read Up or what
[21:29] Speaker 3: have you, but uh, but for the original Chinese version,
[21:32] Speaker 3: like the opening and ending are in English, so like
[21:34] Speaker 3: that being the original version, like they're both bangers too,
[21:37] Speaker 3: so I always find that interesting.
[21:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, if I don't pay enough attention to openings and endings,
[21:43] Speaker 2: I should. I should not really.
[21:45] Speaker 1: I skip them thankfully, it is fun.
[21:48] Speaker 3: But I love it when they're in English for some
[21:51] Speaker 3: reason I don't know. It makes me feel acknowledged and heard.
[21:54] Speaker 1: So I I use nine anime to watch it.
[21:57] Speaker 4: And what nine anime does is put a blue bar
[22:00] Speaker 4: segment for the opening and the ending, and a skip
[22:04] Speaker 4: button to skip the opening and the ending, exactly what
[22:09] Speaker 4: I do.
[22:09] Speaker 2: I usually don't for like the first couple of times,
[22:12] Speaker 2: and then eventually end up stip skipping them. But I
[22:14] Speaker 2: also like usually when the opening's playing, I'm vibing to
[22:16] Speaker 2: the song and I check my phone or something like
[22:18] Speaker 2: I'm not walked in on the opening visuals or like the.
[22:21] Speaker 4: I watched them like once and just then skipped like,
[22:25] Speaker 4: I mean, got it, it's cool.
[22:27] Speaker 1: I just want to get all on the show.
[22:28] Speaker 3: It's probably for the best with most shows because a
[22:30] Speaker 3: lot of times it's very spoiler heavy. For this one,
[22:32] Speaker 3: I think it's just like dancing and stuff, mostly in
[22:34] Speaker 3: the opening, but it's like, yeah, he's in English.
[22:37] Speaker 2: I hate spoilers, so another thing. I usually try not
[22:40] Speaker 2: to pay attention to the visuals. But anyway, my recommendation,
[22:44] Speaker 2: Ping Pong the animation.
[22:46] Speaker 1: We didn't rate it.
[22:47] Speaker 2: Oh, we didn't rate a ringing fade. I'll give it like.
[22:51] Speaker 1: An I'll give it a seven, okay, like an eight.
[22:54] Speaker 3: I like those first three episodes quite a bit.
[22:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll give it some point five. I feel like
[22:58] Speaker 2: episode three really got me hooked to watch more. But
[23:01] Speaker 2: the first episode or two, like I was like, oh,
[23:02] Speaker 2: this is pretty good. I like the concept and stuff
[23:06] Speaker 2: it does. Even for me. It took some time to
[23:08] Speaker 2: adapt to the art style because it's your GPS and
[23:11] Speaker 2: it's not really my preference. But as like I'm more
[23:14] Speaker 2: invested in the world in the concept. I didn't care
[23:16] Speaker 2: about it anymore, like the way it looked. It did
[23:19] Speaker 2: take me some time to adapt. Speaking of art style
[23:23] Speaker 2: and adapting to art style, Ping Pong and the animation
[23:26] Speaker 2: recon If you would like to go first, go bu.
[23:33] Speaker 2: You're crazy. You're crazy, You're crazy.
[23:35] Speaker 3: So how is the three anime for this week? Would
[23:37] Speaker 3: you say this is your least favorite?
[23:39] Speaker 4: Yes, this is definitely my least favorite. It is, okay,
[23:43] Speaker 4: trashy looking. It's just about high schoolers playing ping pong
[23:47] Speaker 4: and you got your overpowered three kids or whatever, like
[23:51] Speaker 4: they're so good at ping pong.
[23:53] Speaker 1: But it's just crappy visuals all over the place.
[23:56] Speaker 4: It's like it's all basically, this anime is all and
[24:00] Speaker 4: drawn visuals.
[24:01] Speaker 1: It's all hand drawn. I don't like that.
[24:02] Speaker 2: You're gonna make hate gone, you're gonna make all right.
[24:07] Speaker 4: There's honestly, there's really not much this anime besides high
[24:10] Speaker 4: school and you know, there's a there's a championship coming up,
[24:15] Speaker 4: so they're all just practicing ping pong.
[24:18] Speaker 2: Okay, click so good?
[24:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't.
[24:21] Speaker 2: I don't. I didn't have a chance to rewatch Ping
[24:23] Speaker 2: Pong on the animation. I've watched it like four or
[24:25] Speaker 2: five times though, and I do love it. I don't
[24:28] Speaker 2: remember exactly where episode three ends, so I don't want
[24:32] Speaker 2: to spoil anything because I do think it goes way
[24:34] Speaker 2: beyond more than just ping Pong, but that's maybe towards
[24:38] Speaker 2: more later episodes. Jordan, just your initial impression and what
[24:43] Speaker 2: happened first, go ahead.
[24:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, so I ended up watching up the episode four,
[24:47] Speaker 3: but I'll just talk about the first three. So you
[24:52] Speaker 3: also is a director I've avoided up to this point,
[24:56] Speaker 3: just because he always it's almost intimidating, how like all
[25:00] Speaker 3: the praise I hear for his stuff, right, Like it's
[25:02] Speaker 3: but it's very artsy. It's very like over the top.
[25:04] Speaker 3: It's like it's there at its core, but then there's
[25:06] Speaker 3: always extra to it. There's always more layers. And you
[25:10] Speaker 3: threw Kaiba at me last week and now you're throwing
[25:12] Speaker 3: ping pong and ping pong at its core is a
[25:15] Speaker 3: sports anime, right, I love sports anime. This lives up.
[25:19] Speaker 3: It's very good, and then it also has those extra layers, right,
[25:22] Speaker 3: very artsy, very animated, like I thought it looked beautiful
[25:26] Speaker 3: art style wise, it's like it's adapting like a nineties
[25:30] Speaker 3: manga or what have you right, or some older manga
[25:33] Speaker 3: like so art style wise, it's like maybe not like
[25:35] Speaker 3: the cookie cutter piece of Kai look that like gree
[25:39] Speaker 3: cod Bye like the most, but like this, it's animated
[25:43] Speaker 3: so well right, It's I feel like sometimes the more.
[25:47] Speaker 1: I'd rather watch smartphone over this, I want Oh.
[25:50] Speaker 2: God, that's crazy. Okay. I do think it looks quite
[25:55] Speaker 2: ugly at times, but the actual animation and the movement
[26:00] Speaker 2: I think is gorgeous and I kind of like that contrast.
[26:04] Speaker 2: But I could see how it could be hard to
[26:07] Speaker 2: maybe get into initially like I had with Ringing Fate,
[26:10] Speaker 2: Like the first ten minutes, it might be like what
[26:12] Speaker 2: the fuck is this show? But it goes way more
[26:16] Speaker 2: deeper than just ping pong recon Obviously, you only watch
[26:19] Speaker 2: three episodes.
[26:20] Speaker 4: I would love to yeah, that three episodes, it's just
[26:22] Speaker 4: all about ping pong and that there's a championship.
[26:25] Speaker 2: I would love for you guys to watch the full
[26:27] Speaker 2: thing and talk about it on a future week though,
[26:29] Speaker 2: like truly it's amazing.
[26:32] Speaker 3: I'm finishing lots of stuff I've I've started for sure,
[26:35] Speaker 3: I still want to know, and then i'd need to
[26:37] Speaker 3: finish this as well.
[26:38] Speaker 4: But I mean, I am watching all of Brazerk, So
[26:41] Speaker 4: if you want to recommend, you know, if you want,
[26:44] Speaker 4: you can recommend more episodes from some show that we've watched. Yeah,
[26:49] Speaker 4: if you want to, you can do that as well.
[26:51] Speaker 3: But this one isn't just about ping pong recon all right.
[26:54] Speaker 3: That's the thing about sports series is the the surface level.
[27:00] Speaker 3: It's always about the sport, right.
[27:01] Speaker 1: And it doesn't go to the does it go to
[27:03] Speaker 1: the extent LIKEIQ?
[27:04] Speaker 4: Like Haiq was volleyball at first, but then like it
[27:07] Speaker 4: developed further and further also beyond the volleyball, is it
[27:11] Speaker 4: the same thing?
[27:12] Speaker 3: I feel like Haiq is mostly volleyball, but it's very polished, right,
[27:15] Speaker 3: and it's very character driven. So and this is similar
[27:19] Speaker 3: in that same way where I feel like it is
[27:21] Speaker 3: very character driven. We see a lot about the uh
[27:25] Speaker 3: the main character and his buddy that uh So Sukimoto is.
[27:31] Speaker 3: I still don't quite have a grasp on him yet
[27:33] Speaker 3: because I've only seen those first three episodes, but he
[27:35] Speaker 3: seems very restrained most of the time. He doesn't really
[27:38] Speaker 3: want to make waves. He's not really that competitive, like
[27:40] Speaker 3: he doesn't want to win he thinks it's kind of
[27:42] Speaker 3: stupid to put like dedicate your entire life to a sport. Right.
[27:46] Speaker 3: So it's because of all that foreshadowing and because they
[27:49] Speaker 3: laid out the characters so well, I knew where episode
[27:51] Speaker 3: three was going, not in like this is obvious kind
[27:53] Speaker 3: of way, but like they laid it out really well
[27:56] Speaker 3: that like he's almost empathetic to a fault in like
[28:00] Speaker 3: for the people that do go all out, right, he
[28:02] Speaker 3: doesn't have that same desire to wins, but he knows
[28:04] Speaker 3: that they do. So like he's like, all right, I'll lose,
[28:07] Speaker 3: Like I don't you know, this is just like another
[28:09] Speaker 3: thing to kind of pass my day, right, Like he
[28:10] Speaker 3: doesn't have that to drive to win, and but he
[28:13] Speaker 3: has that talent and potential and uh, he's he's been
[28:17] Speaker 3: doing it for a long time, right, So it's it's
[28:19] Speaker 3: it's tackling some other things there. There's always more layers
[28:22] Speaker 3: to it. I don't know, I don't want to go
[28:25] Speaker 3: to dealy characters.
[28:26] Speaker 2: In the first three it definitely deals with like the
[28:29] Speaker 2: idea of like winning and losing and like self discovery.
[28:33] Speaker 2: Why am I even playing this? Whoever?
[28:35] Speaker 4: Why?
[28:36] Speaker 2: Like how does these wins and losses affect each character differently.
[28:40] Speaker 2: Go it deals with like talent versus hard work. It
[28:43] Speaker 2: has friendship, it has rivalry, there's like and it goes
[28:47] Speaker 2: into some more things I don't want to spoil, but like,
[28:51] Speaker 2: real life is a is a thing when you're trying
[28:54] Speaker 2: to be an athlete. Real life is a factor, and
[28:58] Speaker 2: we'll see more of that future episodes.
[29:01] Speaker 3: Yeah, and there's a lot of sports and stuff that
[29:04] Speaker 3: are very popular in parts of Asia that people dedicate
[29:08] Speaker 3: I mean, I guess this is kind of true for everywhere,
[29:09] Speaker 3: but people dedicate like their whole lives to it, right Like.
[29:11] Speaker 3: So we see the main antagonistic force of like these
[29:14] Speaker 3: first three episodes. I guess you'd call it Kong. He uh,
[29:18] Speaker 3: like he left home when he was eight, right Like,
[29:20] Speaker 3: he sends money to his family and whatnot. But like
[29:23] Speaker 3: Ping Pong, even though he had like one little hiccup
[29:25] Speaker 3: that like kind of set him back and now he's
[29:27] Speaker 3: having to play in Japan, like, he takes it very seriously,
[29:30] Speaker 3: right like. So it's like that contrasted with with characters
[29:34] Speaker 3: like Sukimoto that you know, he's takes it seriously to
[29:37] Speaker 3: an extent, but not he doesn't really have that competitive
[29:40] Speaker 3: drive versus like Peco, like his friend that like has
[29:43] Speaker 3: that competitive drive to an extent, like he wants to
[29:46] Speaker 3: be great, but he doesn't work for it, like he's
[29:48] Speaker 3: always skipping practice, he's always So it's like all these
[29:51] Speaker 3: different dynamics are being set up in these characters, and
[29:54] Speaker 3: like how they take the narrative from there is something
[29:58] Speaker 3: I really want to, really want to see.
[30:00] Speaker 2: So have they been calling Sukimoto smile?
[30:03] Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah yeah.
[30:09] Speaker 2: And that's another thing it deals with, like having fun
[30:11] Speaker 2: versus like taking things seriously, Like there's so much going.
[30:16] Speaker 4: Look, I love table tennis or ping pong, whatever you
[30:20] Speaker 4: want to call it.
[30:21] Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
[30:22] Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite sports. But this just ain't it. Chief, This,
[30:25] Speaker 1: this just ain't it.
[30:26] Speaker 4: I Mean they used to call me back in high
[30:28] Speaker 4: school the Prince of ping pong because I went to
[30:31] Speaker 4: championships and ship so I was really good at it.
[30:34] Speaker 2: More more invested. If it's just about ping pong right now,
[30:37] Speaker 2: you shouldn't be like enjoying it. I know it's ugly,
[30:39] Speaker 2: recondo all those things that you push if you push
[30:42] Speaker 2: back past the art style and actually watched it, like
[30:46] Speaker 2: did you actually watch it?
[30:48] Speaker 4: Yes, it's just really hard to get a grasp of
[30:51] Speaker 4: it because it looks ugly.
[30:55] Speaker 2: It is quite ugly, I will say at times.
[30:58] Speaker 4: Honestly, I would watch Berserk nineteen ninety because I'm starting
[31:02] Speaker 4: to really get into it more.
[31:04] Speaker 1: But this one here just no, no, I can't. I
[31:07] Speaker 1: don't like the way the characters look.
[31:08] Speaker 2: Honest you, if you watch it and actually pay attention
[31:11] Speaker 2: and continue to watch more episodes, I guarantee you end
[31:14] Speaker 2: up liking it.
[31:15] Speaker 1: I'm not gonna watch any more episodes unless you, of
[31:19] Speaker 1: course recommend it.
[31:20] Speaker 2: Yeah. I think for a future probably in my top
[31:23] Speaker 2: twenty five favorite anime I see. I personally love it,
[31:27] Speaker 2: but I.
[31:27] Speaker 3: Also love I was watching peak anime for a bit. Yeah,
[31:30] Speaker 3: because there's so many sports anime I've seen already, Like
[31:32] Speaker 3: if you list one or name one, there's a good
[31:35] Speaker 3: chance I've at least seen it or read it. But uh, heyjo,
[31:38] Speaker 3: this is one I just yeah, cajo, I've seen it.
[31:40] Speaker 3: I love it, And this is one I just had
[31:42] Speaker 3: kind of put off, and it's probably one of the
[31:45] Speaker 3: better ones I think I've seen, right as far as
[31:47] Speaker 3: like taking this concept and the premise that is kind
[31:53] Speaker 3: of universal and can be taken so far and just
[31:56] Speaker 3: go in the extra mile with it and making it
[31:57] Speaker 3: like its own unique thing. I don't know, it feels
[32:01] Speaker 3: like it goes in above and beyond with the concept
[32:04] Speaker 3: Ping Pong was great for those first three episodes. Nope,
[32:06] Speaker 3: Blintz cool.
[32:08] Speaker 2: So I do. We're also gonna we're going to talk
[32:10] Speaker 2: about Breserve, but I do want to say the summer
[32:13] Speaker 2: anime season is coming out, So for next week, rather
[32:17] Speaker 2: than recommending anime, I think we just go through the
[32:21] Speaker 2: list and talk about these anime and what we plan
[32:25] Speaker 2: on watching, and then we'll do a recommendation episode and
[32:28] Speaker 2: hopefully by then there's been a first episode or a
[32:30] Speaker 2: second episode of everything and we can kind of do
[32:33] Speaker 2: that again.
[32:35] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's right.
[32:35] Speaker 4: The next season is starting in literally like two dude, sorry, sorry,
[32:40] Speaker 4: next the next yeah, the next season is starting in
[32:43] Speaker 4: about two weeks.
[32:45] Speaker 1: Very very yeah.
[32:46] Speaker 2: So I think next week we do going through the list.
[32:48] Speaker 2: After that we we do a week or two of
[32:51] Speaker 2: talking about recommendations and like making each other watch anime,
[32:55] Speaker 2: and then we're gonna watch some seasonal anime and talk
[32:58] Speaker 2: about those. I think is the plan for ran Cafe
[33:00] Speaker 2: coming up in the next month or so or for
[33:03] Speaker 2: the next time or so.
[33:04] Speaker 3: Sounds good to me.
[33:05] Speaker 2: Recon, you have been watching Berserk and you've been loving it. Baby,
[33:12] Speaker 2: we're talking about apode ten, eleven and twelve.
[33:14] Speaker 4: Correct, Yes, ten, eleven and twelve, the continuation. All right,
[33:19] Speaker 4: it is getting intense.
[33:22] Speaker 1: We are starting to see the light of Griffith. I'm
[33:28] Speaker 1: not gonna lie.
[33:28] Speaker 4: This show is really starting to make me realize who
[33:31] Speaker 4: the true Black Swordsman really is.
[33:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy, dude, It's it's it's crazy.
[33:36] Speaker 1: I know it's Kirito.
[33:37] Speaker 4: Man, it's crazy that Kirio is still the real one.
[33:42] Speaker 3: I'm joking.
[33:43] Speaker 1: I'm joking about I'm joking about.
[33:45] Speaker 2: Guys, so I believe. In episode ten, Griffith and Gut's
[33:52] Speaker 2: relationship is continuing to develop, and Griffith is kind of
[33:56] Speaker 2: giving Guts like the cold shoulder. He's not like treating
[34:00] Speaker 2: in the way he was initially maybe a little bit differently,
[34:03] Speaker 2: And Griffith told Guts to go kill someone and he
[34:09] Speaker 2: ended up there ends up being a pretty dark moment
[34:11] Speaker 2: on that mission to assassinate Julius. Do you remember do
[34:14] Speaker 2: you remember what happens? Rican?
[34:16] Speaker 4: So in in episode nine, Griffith calls Guts and tells
[34:20] Speaker 4: him that he wants someone assassinated, and it was Julius.
[34:24] Speaker 1: I think he's the king.
[34:27] Speaker 4: So he goes, so he infiltrates the castle and then
[34:31] Speaker 4: literally kills Julius and then kills his son, which was unexpected.
[34:35] Speaker 4: I didn't even think that he would be there. And
[34:38] Speaker 4: then the whole castle is just on alert. I'm like,
[34:40] Speaker 4: what the fuck is even going on. He's just esleeping
[34:43] Speaker 4: and playing everyone, and he goes into the sewers and
[34:46] Speaker 4: he's just her and he's trying to survive and make
[34:48] Speaker 4: it out to tell Griffith that the mission is complete.
[34:51] Speaker 4: And then we see Griffith's his his smirk right there,
[34:55] Speaker 4: and we see his smirk after. I think he was
[34:58] Speaker 4: with a princess named Arlotte. I think that's her name.
[35:02] Speaker 2: I can't remember the princesses. The princess, Yeah, I.
[35:07] Speaker 1: Think her name was Charlotte.
[35:08] Speaker 4: He was with her, and then news breaks out to
[35:11] Speaker 4: Charlotte and then Griffith's just smirking in the background, like
[35:15] Speaker 4: I can see his evilness starting to rise up. Now
[35:19] Speaker 4: I don't I don't know what is going to happen
[35:21] Speaker 4: from there, but Griffith is the only one who knows
[35:24] Speaker 4: that Guts did this. So I'm just wondering if he's
[35:27] Speaker 4: gonna tell everyone that that Guts is the killer and
[35:30] Speaker 4: that's where the trail starts.
[35:32] Speaker 2: No, no way, I mean you're welcome to your theories.
[35:35] Speaker 2: But like Griffith wanted Guts to kill that guy, like
[35:38] Speaker 2: they he completed his mission. The thing that up I'm
[35:41] Speaker 2: just wondering is how Yeah, sorry, I shouldn't have said,
[35:44] Speaker 2: I shouldn't have spoiled you.
[35:45] Speaker 1: But like no, no, it's fine, it's fine.
[35:47] Speaker 2: Uh, but it is a fucked up scene where like
[35:49] Speaker 2: he's killed Guts has killed so many people, but killing
[35:52] Speaker 2: that kid, that innocent kid, kind of fucks with him
[35:55] Speaker 2: a little bit.
[35:56] Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess what correction. Like, So Julius was the king, right,
[36:00] Speaker 3: but there's anytime you have like court politics, there's gonna
[36:03] Speaker 3: be like factions of the different sections of the nobility
[36:06] Speaker 3: that in this case they don't look so kindly upon.
[36:12] Speaker 1: He wasn't the king of the castle.
[36:14] Speaker 4: I don't know.
[36:15] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so it's he was intended for Gets to
[36:17] Speaker 3: kill him, but then his son walked in and uh
[36:20] Speaker 3: you know in that moment, yeah, like the way that
[36:22] Speaker 3: they shot it, you know, he didn't quite know who
[36:24] Speaker 3: it was, but he's knew no witnesses, right, and then witnesses.
[36:30] Speaker 4: So it was dark the way he died. But yeah,
[36:33] Speaker 4: I just didn't expect that. And then from there on
[36:37] Speaker 4: there were some raids happening with the Band of the Hawks,
[36:42] Speaker 4: you know, challenging more people, and then Guts and Costco
[36:46] Speaker 4: fall off a cliff and he's just rescuing her. And
[36:50] Speaker 4: from there we see a little bit more of character
[36:52] Speaker 4: development between Guts and Cosca, and we also dive into
[36:56] Speaker 4: Costca's backstory and we learn more about her and how
[36:59] Speaker 4: she was, you know, saved by Griffith and why she
[37:03] Speaker 4: actually likes and wants to be with him. So it's
[37:06] Speaker 4: all very touchy and all that. So I'm liking where
[37:09] Speaker 4: this is going so far. It's just so intriguing.
[37:13] Speaker 1: A good characters, good characters, good fucking characters.
[37:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, Griffith ends up becoming a noble in these episodes,
[37:22] Speaker 2: like he before he got knighted. He's slowly moving up
[37:25] Speaker 2: and he has said something in chat he Griffith says
[37:30] Speaker 2: something along the lines of I cannot see someone as
[37:32] Speaker 2: an equal if they don't have their own dreams. So
[37:36] Speaker 2: Griffith has been had this dream of like whatever going
[37:40] Speaker 2: up in society. He became knighted, he he became a noble,
[37:44] Speaker 2: and clearly he has some plans that he wants to do.
[37:47] Speaker 2: But yeah, he doesn't see Guts as his equal, and
[37:50] Speaker 2: he's just kind of using him as a sword. He's
[37:52] Speaker 2: been using him all along, but he definitely starts to
[37:54] Speaker 2: treat him a little bit differently, and now you have
[37:56] Speaker 2: Guts is like he's like, like, what am I gonna
[37:59] Speaker 2: do with my life? Like? Am I just going to
[38:00] Speaker 2: be his sword forever? Like he starts to think of
[38:04] Speaker 2: himself like what what Like what do I see him
[38:06] Speaker 2: for my future? Especially after killing that kid? It really
[38:09] Speaker 2: fucks with him and he kind of has this moral
[38:11] Speaker 2: conflict going on.
[38:13] Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I love about the Golden a Dark
[38:16] Speaker 3: too is it does a really good job of like
[38:18] Speaker 3: humanizing Griffith, Like people don't always know themselves as well
[38:22] Speaker 3: as they think they do. So him saying, you know,
[38:25] Speaker 3: he says, you know, if somebody is not my equal,
[38:28] Speaker 3: like I can't really see them as a friend or
[38:30] Speaker 3: what have you. But also we've seen him up to
[38:32] Speaker 3: this point give Guts a little bit of special treatment
[38:35] Speaker 3: here and there, like he he does view Guts as
[38:37] Speaker 3: an equal, but like there's not really a conversation happening there, right, it's, yeah,
[38:40] Speaker 3: Griffith talking to somebody besides Guts, and then Guts just
[38:43] Speaker 3: kind of listening in on that and drawing his own
[38:45] Speaker 3: conclusions and God getting hurt as a result. So it's
[38:50] Speaker 3: I don't know that and that kind of broke Guts
[38:52] Speaker 3: a bit. So I believe that was in these these episodes, right,
[38:55] Speaker 3: that whole yeah combination.
[38:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, And by the end of episode twelve, I'm believed
[39:00] Speaker 2: was telling Costca that he's thinking about leaving the Hawks
[39:03] Speaker 2: in general to find his own, like, you know, his
[39:05] Speaker 2: own perpose, his own Yes, he did say that Dreams,
[39:08] Speaker 2: so he was definitely influenced from that conversation that he overheard.
[39:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, so he's gonna go maybe.
[39:16] Speaker 4: I don't know if the band of the Hawks is
[39:18] Speaker 4: going to take that as if he's going rogue on.
[39:21] Speaker 1: His on his clan or whatever. But we'll see what happens.
[39:25] Speaker 1: I'm just waiting for that betrayal a moment. When is
[39:27] Speaker 1: that gonna happen? I have no idea, And.
[39:30] Speaker 3: That's why I love about the ninety seven version capturing
[39:32] Speaker 3: the heart of berserk because the manga, it starts out
[39:34] Speaker 3: in the same way right where it's like it foreshadows stuff,
[39:37] Speaker 3: and then it drops in or jumps into the Golden
[39:39] Speaker 3: Age arc and you're just you have that in the
[39:41] Speaker 3: back of your mind the whole time. You're like, well,
[39:43] Speaker 3: how do we get from from here to there?
[39:45] Speaker 2: Like?
[39:46] Speaker 3: And uh, I love that they they captured that same
[39:48] Speaker 3: type of appeal. I love that that's just in the
[39:50] Speaker 3: back of your head as it should.
[39:52] Speaker 2: Be, as it should be. Yeah, all right, The Next
[39:55] Speaker 2: Cafe is going to be live on the twenty eighth
[39:58] Speaker 2: at one pm ST aiming for and we're gonna recovering
[40:03] Speaker 2: the seasonal any chart or any list. We're gonna be
[40:06] Speaker 2: going through what's happening in the summer season and coming up,

[40:25] Speaker 3: From twenty twenty four. Oh is it.
[40:27] Speaker 1: Twenty twenty four Rising Rising?
[40:29] Speaker 4: Oh?

[40:34] Speaker 1: that one.
[40:35] Speaker 2: You haven't seen seen that one?
[40:37] Speaker 4: No, because it's an o NA so it's at the bottom.
[40:40] Speaker 4: So I haven't seen that one.
[40:41] Speaker 2: Hmm. I think this is what he was messaging me about,
[40:44] Speaker 2: and I was like, I'll I recommend it for it.
[40:46] Speaker 2: I guess, so okay, Oh.
[40:48] Speaker 1: It's on Netflix.
[40:50] Speaker 4: Oh, I haven't even seen that it's on Netflix. I
[40:53] Speaker 4: might give it an I'm going to message if that's
[40:55] Speaker 4: your recommendation, then yeah.
[40:56] Speaker 2: We're not watching it for next week. So I just
[40:58] Speaker 2: wanted to know if you got that. You guys have
