[0:00] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, we have the Undertaker in the house.
[0:03] Speaker 1: When you threw Mankind off the top of the cell,
[0:05] Speaker 1: did you think you killed him?
[0:07] Speaker 2: He's got this huge, what I think is a booger
[0:09] Speaker 2: in his nostril. Come to find out, it's his tooth.
[0:11] Speaker 3: Oh my.
[0:12] Speaker 1: Were you nervous to start showing your actual personality?
[0:15] Speaker 2: Once I retired from the ring, I had a little
[0:18] Speaker 2: bit of a, who the hell am I here?
[0:19] Speaker 1: Right coming back at wrestlemania 40 to chokeslam the rock
[0:23] Speaker 1: what had me feeling like a kid again.
[0:25] Speaker 2: So i'm up in the suite chilling with my family
[0:27] Speaker 2: right i told my wife yeah i'll be back in
[0:29] Speaker 2: a minute i kayfabed.
[0:30] Speaker 1: Everybody i worked on that move for months.
[0:33] Speaker 2: In my day i could never imagine doing that.
[0:35] Speaker 1: There's basically zero margin for error i don't want to
[0:38] Speaker 1: ever do that move again yeah i wouldn't blame you
[0:40] Speaker 1: i gotta ask i have to ask what does it
[0:42] Speaker 1: take to get you back in character 9.59.
[0:55] Speaker 4: A.m.
[0:56] Speaker 1: Unbelievable.
[0:58] Speaker 3: No belt. The former U.S. champion.
[1:02] Speaker 2: How dare you?
[1:02] Speaker 3: Imagine being known as that.
[1:04] Speaker 2: How dare you?
[1:05] Speaker 3: In the city of Cleveland. My hometown.
[1:08] Speaker 1: Ohio. That son of a bitch stripped me of my
[1:10] Speaker 1: title in my hometown.
[1:11] Speaker 3: I cannot think of a worse situation than the one
[1:13] Speaker 3: we're in right now.
[1:14] Speaker 1: Yeah, I have nothing. Hold on a second.
[1:17] Speaker 3: What? Well, that could, I guess that's technically a worse situation.
[1:20] Speaker 1: No, wait, wait, whoa, whoa.
[1:21] Speaker 2: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
[1:29] Speaker 1: I don't know. I thought you were going to scream.
[1:34] Speaker 2: I thought we were going to be like.
[1:35] Speaker 3: I just was processing it. Do we just use that?
[1:39] Speaker 2: Do we just bring him in?
[1:40] Speaker 3: Do we just use that? All right, all right. We
[1:45] Speaker 3: did a little work on that. I thought you were
[1:47] Speaker 3: going to scream.
[1:48] Speaker 5: Well, because I just was in so much fear of
[1:50] Speaker 5: the dead man, dude, that I couldn't... I was.
[1:53] Speaker 2: Shook, dude.
[1:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, just speechless.
[1:56] Speaker 3: Yeah, basically. What's up, brother?
[1:58] Speaker 1: Wow.
[1:58] Speaker 6: Wow.
[1:59] Speaker 2: Mark. Oh, man. How you guys doing? Did we botch that?
[2:02] Speaker 2: How you feeling, man?
[2:04] Speaker 1: I'm sore.
[2:05] Speaker 2: I would imagine you would be.
[2:06] Speaker 1: I'm in pain. Yeah, that one hurt. That was the
[2:09] Speaker 1: most painful one yet.
[2:10] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[2:11] Speaker 1: But as I was telling you, as long as I'm
[2:12] Speaker 1: not injured, that's always the biggest blessing.
[2:14] Speaker 2: Absolutely, man. Anytime that you walk out and are not injured,
[2:18] Speaker 2: you got to kind of count your blessings. And you
[2:20] Speaker 2: pushed the envelope. anyway, in a business that's already exponentially
[2:27] Speaker 2: dangerous and then you just walk a little bit further
[2:31] Speaker 2: out there on the edge.
[2:32] Speaker 1: Well, I have to because they say I'm a part-timer.
[2:35] Speaker 1: which is kind of true. But stop talking about me.
[2:40] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, we have The Undertaker in the house. Dude,
[2:46] Speaker 1: this is crazy. By far, one of the most excited podcasts.
[2:50] Speaker 2: Well, thank you for having me, man. Thank you.
[2:52] Speaker 1: Thank you for coming, dude.
[2:53] Speaker 3: Bright and early, by the way.
[2:54] Speaker 2: I was actually, yeah, it's bright and early. Honestly, actually,
[2:57] Speaker 2: last night, I thought, no, they're going to cancel.
[2:59] Speaker 3: Like, I was like.
[3:00] Speaker 1: Zero percent chance. I saw you before the match. And
[3:04] Speaker 1: you'd say, good luck, kill it out there. I'll see
[3:06] Speaker 1: you in the morning. I was like, yep, 10 a.m., brother. Like,
[3:08] Speaker 1: I'm running out four hours of sleep.
[3:11] Speaker 2: I got a plane waiting on me, brother. I'm sorry. Oh, really? Yeah,
[3:13] Speaker 2: I'm going home, man.
[3:14] Speaker 5: Dude, I saw him backstage. I was walking with Kristen
[3:17] Speaker 5: before your match. And I was like, dude, I wonder
[3:20] Speaker 5: what this guy's like. Because I grew up watching him.
[3:23] Speaker 5: And that Undertaker persona is just so much larger than
[3:26] Speaker 5: life and so... dread inducing and kristen's just like he's
[3:30] Speaker 5: really the nicest guy and like i was just like
[3:33] Speaker 5: man i'll and i and i walked past and i
[3:34] Speaker 5: was like should i say what's up and i was
[3:36] Speaker 5: like and you were having a conversation i was like
[3:37] Speaker 5: no i'm just gonna keep him moving i'll meet him tomorrow.
[3:39] Speaker 2: It's funny because people they have a hard time now
[3:43] Speaker 2: separating right um especially even our talent like because i
[3:49] Speaker 2: was there for so long a lot of our talent
[3:51] Speaker 2: grew up watching me i wrestled their dads you know
[3:54] Speaker 2: there's some guys that wrestle their dads and i've wrestled
[3:56] Speaker 2: them how long i was there generational and and you
[4:00] Speaker 2: know they pretty much got the the same thing so
[4:02] Speaker 2: now when people are actually getting to see mark calloway
[4:06] Speaker 2: there's a little bit of a disconnect like he's just
[4:09] Speaker 2: a dude well.
[4:10] Speaker 5: That was this guy that was your doing too i
[4:12] Speaker 5: mean you you were so protective of the undertaker brand
[4:15] Speaker 5: the whole time that you you know participated in during
[4:19] Speaker 5: all your appearances that you you know, you didn't show
[4:22] Speaker 5: Mark at all. So now has it become, has it
[4:25] Speaker 5: been that much more difficult to kind of separate the
[4:27] Speaker 5: two beings?
[4:29] Speaker 2: It was at first, you know, once I retired from
[4:33] Speaker 2: the ring, I had a little bit of a time
[4:36] Speaker 2: period there. I was like, all right, who the hell
[4:38] Speaker 2: am I here, right?
[4:40] Speaker 1: Did you have an identity crisis?
[4:42] Speaker 2: I did somewhat have an identity crisis. Like, okay, that
[4:45] Speaker 2: part of me, it's over now, but it's been ingrained
[4:49] Speaker 2: in me to be that you know that ominous character
[4:54] Speaker 2: all the time so it took me a while to
[4:55] Speaker 2: let not now you know here at work and everything
[4:58] Speaker 2: else i mean the guys got to you know see
[5:00] Speaker 2: who i was but uh you know the public you
[5:04] Speaker 2: know they would never.
[5:05] Speaker 1: Were you nervous to start showing your actual personality.
[5:08] Speaker 2: Oh dude this is the funny thing like i could
[5:12] Speaker 2: get out in front of a stadium like that it
[5:14] Speaker 2: could be completely sold out as undertaker i'm i'm i'm
[5:19] Speaker 2: cool it's not it's not a thing you put me
[5:22] Speaker 2: in front of 10 people and try and get me
[5:25] Speaker 2: to like give a speech or anything as Mark Calloway, dude,
[5:29] Speaker 2: my ass is so puckered. I couldn't. And so, you know,
[5:35] Speaker 2: when they, they find, they, you know, they call me
[5:37] Speaker 2: and say, Hey, we want to put you in the
[5:38] Speaker 2: hall of fame. I was like, and it wasn't that
[5:41] Speaker 2: I wasn't, I wasn't honored. And I was just like,
[5:43] Speaker 2: I'm going to have to give a speech. I'm going
[5:45] Speaker 2: to have to give a speech as myself. Right. so
[5:48] Speaker 2: i i'd like i had to think about it for
[5:50] Speaker 2: a while because it was like i had to process
[5:52] Speaker 2: it like okay this is it man this is if
[5:55] Speaker 2: you do this you know here the curtain's coming wide
[5:58] Speaker 2: open yeah and here we go so uh well.
[6:01] Speaker 1: You worked so hard to stay in character yeah both
[6:05] Speaker 1: on and or in and out of the ring.
[6:07] Speaker 2: Yeah it was just it was just i wish i
[6:09] Speaker 2: could say you know i was that smart to you
[6:12] Speaker 2: know but I never expected everything that the business has
[6:17] Speaker 2: to offer now back then. So it was a great
[6:20] Speaker 2: thing that I protected the brand and even not knowing
[6:23] Speaker 2: that I was just protecting that character and the business
[6:28] Speaker 2: for the way it was. Everybody ran it back then.
[6:31] Speaker 2: Such a smart thing to do.
[6:34] Speaker 1: Well, you had the veil of the character, which was,
[6:37] Speaker 1: I mean, I'll use the word perfect in my opinion.
[6:42] Speaker 1: like every once in a while you have the perfect
[6:45] Speaker 1: concept all come together and i think we saw that
[6:48] Speaker 1: with the undertaker like the storyline the character the music
[6:53] Speaker 1: your moveset your height just your build everything just fit
[6:57] Speaker 1: you so perfectly which i think contributed to the reason
[7:01] Speaker 1: that you were able to remain relevant for 20 plus
[7:05] Speaker 1: 30 years like even even now but man it's like
[7:09] Speaker 1: you are still the undertaker and it was because of
[7:11] Speaker 1: your commitment to this character.
[7:13] Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, thank you.
[7:14] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[7:14] Speaker 2: It was, it was definitely a commitment and, and it was, um,
[7:19] Speaker 2: you know, it w it was rough for people too.
[7:21] Speaker 2: Cause you know, everyone had to go along, you know,
[7:23] Speaker 2: had to go along with it. They had to, they
[7:24] Speaker 2: had to sell it too. And then, and everybody, it
[7:26] Speaker 2: was all part of the deal. And if it didn't, then,
[7:29] Speaker 2: you know, then you see the other side of me like, okay, that's,
[7:32] Speaker 2: he's an asshole, but it w it was business. Everything,
[7:35] Speaker 2: you know, every, everything was business. And, uh, But now
[7:39] Speaker 2: I'm in a good place now. I'm at a place
[7:41] Speaker 2: now where I can talk about Undertaker and I can
[7:45] Speaker 2: be Mark Calloway and it's all good.
[7:48] Speaker 3: Well, you're a podcaster.
[7:50] Speaker 2: I wouldn't go as far as calling me a podcaster yet,
[7:53] Speaker 2: but we do occupy some time here and there. And
[7:58] Speaker 2: that was kind of a challenge, too, because... You know,
[8:03] Speaker 2: it's one thing sitting here being interviewed, but then, you know,
[8:05] Speaker 2: when you're trying to extract and then, you know, I'm
[8:08] Speaker 2: sure as you've experienced, sometimes you have guests that are.
[8:14] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
[8:16] Speaker 2: It really puts the work on you because you've got
[8:18] Speaker 2: to extract it.
[8:20] Speaker 3: We just talk to each other when that happens.
[8:22] Speaker 1: You guys start breaking out in conversation.
[8:25] Speaker 2: I'm dying over here, right?
[8:26] Speaker 3: How many episodes have you done? Six feet under, right? Yeah,
[8:29] Speaker 3: six feet under.
[8:30] Speaker 2: I think we're about, I don't know, 24, five in.
[8:35] Speaker 3: That's like right when you start grooving. You'll be like...
[8:39] Speaker 3: If you're not already, you'll be feeling like a hundred percent.
[8:42] Speaker 2: Like, yeah, I was, it was a couple of shows ago. We, I,
[8:47] Speaker 2: we were, yeah. Like I said, they're always surprised when
[8:50] Speaker 2: I show up and, and, and do it. Cause I,
[8:53] Speaker 2: you know, I hadn't really embraced it yet. Um, and
[8:59] Speaker 2: you know, obviously I don't know. You've heard of my, my,
[9:01] Speaker 2: my group, my boys, the BSK, right? So I don't know.
[9:04] Speaker 2: I don't, I was feeling it one day and I
[9:06] Speaker 2: was like, Hey, if we hit a million subscribers or
[9:09] Speaker 2: whatever from, you know, by mania, I said, we'll do a,
[9:13] Speaker 2: we'll do a reunion, a reunion podcast with all the
[9:17] Speaker 2: BSK members, right. That are still alive. And I said
[9:21] Speaker 2: it and it's out there. And then I'm like, that
[9:24] Speaker 2: was the worst thing that I could have possibly done
[9:27] Speaker 2: to get all these guys back together. If, if that would,
[9:30] Speaker 2: if that happens and I don't get canceled, like it's impossible.
[9:33] Speaker 1: No way. No way. Just wild cards like that.
[9:38] Speaker 2: I mean, I personally, I don't even, I don't, I think,
[9:40] Speaker 2: you know, you only get canceled if you let yourself
[9:42] Speaker 2: get canceled, but if there's some wild cards in that group, yeah,
[9:45] Speaker 2: there are definitely, uh, there, there's some, there's some interesting
[9:49] Speaker 2: personalities that'll, uh.
[9:50] Speaker 1: Well, welcome to social media. oh man the social media
[9:53] Speaker 1: will where people will pick you apart oh yeah part
[9:57] Speaker 1: of you you know and that's the scary thing about
[10:00] Speaker 1: about revealing who you are right because now you're now
[10:03] Speaker 1: you're not in character right my guess is and i
[10:06] Speaker 1: don't want to speak for you but like you know,
[10:08] Speaker 1: what are you going to say about The Undertaker? You
[10:10] Speaker 1: don't know much about him besides he shows up and
[10:12] Speaker 1: kicks ass.
[10:13] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[10:13] Speaker 1: But the more Mark talks, now you've got opinions that
[10:16] Speaker 1: could rub people the wrong way. They find out more
[10:18] Speaker 1: about you. They don't agree.
[10:20] Speaker 2: That's the thing, though. They're my opinions. So, you know,
[10:23] Speaker 2: I think that's the biggest issue with social media is that,
[10:27] Speaker 2: you know, people, we're all allowed, we all have that
[10:29] Speaker 2: right to have our own opinion, and we don't have
[10:31] Speaker 2: to agree with it. And I'm not going to. you
[10:35] Speaker 2: know what, if I say something that you don't agree with,
[10:37] Speaker 2: I'm not, you know, no offense, I'm not going to
[10:39] Speaker 2: lose any sleep over it.
[10:40] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[10:41] Speaker 2: But I think people are just really way too sensitive today.
[10:46] Speaker 2: And I think there is a part, I mean, we
[10:49] Speaker 2: have to, as people, be a little more sensitive. But
[10:51] Speaker 2: I think it's gone way over the.
[10:54] Speaker 1: Top of, like, We're in a hot spot. Yeah.
[10:57] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[10:57] Speaker 1: We're in a hot place right now.
[10:59] Speaker 5: My advice would be just stay off social media. That's
[11:02] Speaker 5: what I try to do as much as possible. I'm
[11:03] Speaker 5: down to like 14, I think 14, 16 hours a
[11:06] Speaker 5: day right now, but I'm getting, I've been doing much better.
[11:11] Speaker 2: I think, okay. I think I can handle that.
[11:14] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[11:15] Speaker 3: You know what?
[11:15] Speaker 2: It's and to, and like with my kids, like social
[11:20] Speaker 2: media and like, and I'm kind of guess where I'm
[11:21] Speaker 2: shooting myself in the foot here. Cause obviously that's what
[11:24] Speaker 2: we want is people, you know watching our content it's
[11:28] Speaker 2: just like man don't don't live vicariously through through me
[11:33] Speaker 2: go out and live your life yeah i think there's
[11:35] Speaker 2: too many people that just rely on on on social
[11:38] Speaker 2: media and and like i said we're i'm shooting us
[11:41] Speaker 2: you know i'm i'm killing our stuff here but you
[11:44] Speaker 2: know go out and live your life man and and
[11:46] Speaker 2: have your own experiences and and then uh but don't Man,
[11:51] Speaker 2: don't live your life vicariously through somebody else. There's too
[11:54] Speaker 2: much stuff out there to do and enjoy.
[11:57] Speaker 5: This SummerSlam's been crazy, but I've been thinking to myself,
[11:59] Speaker 5: I'd like to go to a Cavs game or maybe
[12:01] Speaker 5: a Guardians game.
[12:03] Speaker 1: Well, today's sponsor is SeatGeek, Mike. So, yeah, I got

[12:59] Speaker 3: Back to the show. Especially the WWE fans. Because, I mean.
[13:06] Speaker 5: having been able to see it alongside him, I've never
[13:10] Speaker 5: experienced a more passionate group of individuals.
[13:12] Speaker 1: They're rabid.
[13:13] Speaker 2: I was just thinking, that's the word I was thinking.
[13:15] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[13:15] Speaker 2: They're rabid.
[13:16] Speaker 5: Who are willing to devote themselves to, you know, this
[13:22] Speaker 5: org to you, to the other, you know, people involved
[13:25] Speaker 5: in it.
[13:25] Speaker 3: And so that's like, for them, that's an even larger
[13:27] Speaker 3: pill to.
[13:28] Speaker 2: Swallow, man. It, the W the, the, the wrestling fan
[13:32] Speaker 2: in general, it, it's just a whole nother breed of,
[13:35] Speaker 2: you know, and God bless them. But like, you know,
[13:37] Speaker 2: I do my one dead man show, right. Which is
[13:39] Speaker 2: another kind of deal where I do, it's kind of
[13:42] Speaker 2: like a standup deal where I try to tell some
[13:44] Speaker 2: funny stories of things that people have always wondered. And,
[13:48] Speaker 2: and they, the crowd, like I'll throw a date out, right.
[13:51] Speaker 2: I've got 30 plus years of, I don't remember everything.
[13:55] Speaker 1: Okay.
[13:55] Speaker 2: CTE is real. So I mean, I've had a few
[13:57] Speaker 2: concussions and, and, and I will throw something out there
[14:01] Speaker 2: that's wrong. like a date or a place or an
[14:04] Speaker 2: opponent or whatever. And they'd have no hesitation. Like, no,
[14:08] Speaker 2: I was, I was in Hartford, Connecticut in 1997. And
[14:12] Speaker 2: it was such and such. And I'm like, okay. But
[14:17] Speaker 2: it's like, how on earth do you know that so
[14:21] Speaker 2: fast off the top of your head? Like that's a
[14:23] Speaker 2: lot of time. And then you look at the person.
[14:27] Speaker 2: I was like, you weren't alive then. You weren't alive. So,
[14:31] Speaker 2: I mean, that's a lot of time. on the internet
[14:33] Speaker 2: doing some wrestling research so that you can fact check
[14:36] Speaker 2: me and my stories.
[14:38] Speaker 3: I don't think there's any other org like that.
[14:40] Speaker 1: Uh, absolutely not.
[14:41] Speaker 2: No, no.
[14:42] Speaker 1: But I think it's also different in that, um, while
[14:46] Speaker 1: they have such passion for, but whether it's love or
[14:49] Speaker 1: hate for their baby face or their heel, it, There's
[14:53] Speaker 1: like an understanding, and I think love is the underlining.
[14:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, they love wrestling. I think they're proud to
[15:02] Speaker 2: be wrestling fans. Obviously, for years and years and years,
[15:05] Speaker 2: you say, oh, man, I watch wrestling. People kind of
[15:08] Speaker 2: crap on you. But there is a lot of competition
[15:09] Speaker 2: in what we do, and you want to be the guy.
[15:13] Speaker 1: Well, the criteria isn't just the sport.
[15:15] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[15:16] Speaker 1: That's a small part of it. Yeah, it's like what
[15:19] Speaker 1: is your move set? How are your promos? How do
[15:21] Speaker 1: the fans react to you?
[15:22] Speaker 2: How are you connecting with your fans?
[15:24] Speaker 1: How are you connecting backstage? Are you an asshole? People
[15:27] Speaker 1: like you. Do you deserve that spot? Do you deserve
[15:30] Speaker 1: to lose the United States title?
[15:34] Speaker 2: A sore subject there. No, but before we move on from...
[15:38] Speaker 2: A little sore?
[15:39] Speaker 3: No, I'm fine.
[15:40] Speaker 5: Okay.
[15:41] Speaker 2: I mean, we can take a moment. That's fine. I mean,
[15:43] Speaker 2: it's your show.
[15:43] Speaker 3: Go ahead.
[15:45] Speaker 2: No, but what I wanted to say is.
[15:48] Speaker 2: Um, yeah, you know, obviously it was rough day at
[15:50] Speaker 2: the office last night, but what you've done with your
[15:55] Speaker 2: platform for that title has been very impressive. You've actually
[16:00] Speaker 2: made that thing mean something to you. And you had
[16:03] Speaker 2: it for what, over a year? 279 days, almost.
[16:06] Speaker 1: Almost a year. Third longest reigning U.S.
[16:08] Speaker 2: Title.
[16:08] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[16:09] Speaker 2: I mean, and what you did and like all the
[16:11] Speaker 2: places that you go and, you know, when you're with
[16:14] Speaker 2: your brother and you've got that belt, man, that's next
[16:18] Speaker 2: level commitment. And that's made that belt relevant again. I
[16:23] Speaker 2: tried to take it everywhere.
[16:25] Speaker 1: No, I always look. I glued it to my side.
[16:28] Speaker 1: And I bet people will see that in this generation
[16:32] Speaker 1: of wrestling fans. People will see it and always be like,
[16:35] Speaker 1: that's Logan Paul's belt. I'm not sure. Congratulations to LA Knight.
[16:40] Speaker 1: But man, I saw him posting the picture of him
[16:42] Speaker 1: with the belt, my belt. You're like, whose belt is that?
[16:45] Speaker 3: No, literally.
[16:45] Speaker 1: I was like, bro, that's my belt. It's just crazy
[16:49] Speaker 1: to see with someone else. But yeah, man, I try
[16:54] Speaker 1: to do it. I'm running on four hours of sleep. Mark,
[16:58] Speaker 1: you got to forgive me, bro. Hey, bro. I was
[17:00] Speaker 1: up late last night. I was so excited. Yeah. It's
[17:03] Speaker 1: cool to see you backstage as a veteran and you
[17:09] Speaker 1: still around the scene because you still give a fuck
[17:12] Speaker 1: about the product. I do.
[17:14] Speaker 2: And, you know, there's a handful of guys that still will,
[17:18] Speaker 2: you know, they want, you know, although the product is
[17:21] Speaker 2: a lot different from when I worked, but I think
[17:24] Speaker 2: there's a lot of elements that I can, like, I
[17:28] Speaker 2: can still, that are still relevant to today's product. Um,
[17:33] Speaker 2: and you know, I think there's a, there's a handful
[17:36] Speaker 2: of guys that'll come still pick my brain and I
[17:39] Speaker 2: have to do that. Yeah. Brother, if you see me
[17:42] Speaker 2: and you've got something on your mind, I mean, like
[17:44] Speaker 2: I said, today's game is a lot different. So I
[17:47] Speaker 2: have to process the information that I give because it
[17:50] Speaker 2: is a different product, but there's a lot of the,
[17:53] Speaker 2: the root principles of, of, of wrestling that still apply.
[17:58] Speaker 1: Are you a fan yourself of WWE's current product?
[18:02] Speaker 2: I am. It's different. It is like, you know, I've
[18:05] Speaker 2: had to stop myself from being that old crusty, you know,
[18:09] Speaker 2: old timer, like I hate the way we did it,
[18:11] Speaker 2: you know? Uh, but the business is freaking incredible right now.
[18:17] Speaker 2: It is, it's, it is absolutely insane. So I can't
[18:21] Speaker 2: bitch too much about it because, uh, You guys are
[18:24] Speaker 2: killing it.
[18:24] Speaker 5: Whenever we ask, like we had Hulk on like two
[18:28] Speaker 5: weeks ago or three weeks ago or something. And we
[18:30] Speaker 5: ask a very similar question about today's product. And there's
[18:33] Speaker 5: always like a little bit of a pause where like,
[18:36] Speaker 5: it feels like it looks, it looks almost like.
[18:38] Speaker 3: You're reminiscing back on 30 years of destruction.
[18:43] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[18:43] Speaker 5: You know, real destruction. What, what in your mind, like
[18:46] Speaker 5: what's the core difference, core difference between today and yesterday's product?
[18:50] Speaker 2: So one, there was a really high turnover, uh, of
[18:55] Speaker 2: my generation and my guys and then the new guys
[18:59] Speaker 2: that are coming up. And I think, and for you too,
[19:05] Speaker 2: this would be, I think, there's, the guys are so athletic.
[19:11] Speaker 2: Like the things, like the springboard thing, it's like, it's
[19:17] Speaker 2: video game shit, bro. Like I couldn't have, in my day,
[19:20] Speaker 2: I couldn't have never even imagined doing that. Like it
[19:23] Speaker 2: was just like, And I guess it is from the
[19:26] Speaker 2: generations playing video games and like, well, shut up. I
[19:29] Speaker 2: can do that, right? And I was like, holy shit.
[19:33] Speaker 2: But what, you know, again, those kind of moves increase
[19:37] Speaker 2: the risk. Again, like I said earlier, exponentially. I mean,
[19:41] Speaker 2: I always feel like in any given match, you're one,
[19:46] Speaker 2: two inches away from something really catastrophic happening.
[19:48] Speaker 5: Yes.
[19:49] Speaker 1: Right?
[19:49] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[19:50] Speaker 2: It last night. You felt, you know.
[19:51] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[19:53] Speaker 2: So I think there's an element to the storytelling that
[19:59] Speaker 2: guys aren't comfortable with that yet, where they are comfortable
[20:03] Speaker 2: with their athleticism and they know what they can do athletically.
[20:06] Speaker 2: But what happens, my opinion, what happens is. in the
[20:11] Speaker 2: audience that's what they expect and you have to continually
[20:17] Speaker 2: put okay so you did a a back springboard moonsault
[20:22] Speaker 2: onto the floor yeah okay i've seen that now now
[20:26] Speaker 2: what do you got yeah you don't want to say
[20:28] Speaker 2: they get desensitized oh i know yeah to to you
[20:31] Speaker 2: know i mean when you and ricochet did the the
[20:33] Speaker 2: the the uh midair collision the the clotheslines i was
[20:38] Speaker 2: like oh shit something that no one's ever seen yeah
[20:41] Speaker 2: so what what ends up happening is a lot of
[20:43] Speaker 2: times you might get yourself put in a box where
[20:47] Speaker 2: uh i don't you know.
[20:48] Speaker 3: No backflips tonight yeah.
[20:50] Speaker 2: Yeah but if they're invested in the character and i
[20:55] Speaker 2: think you've done a really really really good job of
[20:59] Speaker 2: of being who you are and in your platform and
[21:02] Speaker 2: your social media and being that guy and not trying
[21:05] Speaker 2: to be well, let me tell you something, brother, kind
[21:08] Speaker 2: of a guy. You're genuine. So I think people, I
[21:11] Speaker 2: think people resonate whether they love it, whether they hate you.
[21:15] Speaker 2: I think, I think you could get to a point
[21:17] Speaker 2: where you didn't necessarily have to do that. It's nice
[21:20] Speaker 2: to have it in the toolbox, but don't rely on it.
[21:22] Speaker 1: I don't want to ever do that move again.
[21:24] Speaker 2: Yeah. I wouldn't blame you. No, I've never did that again. It's, it's,
[21:28] Speaker 2: it's on film now, brother. It'll live forever. But I,
[21:30] Speaker 2: but I think And it's coming back. You're starting to
[21:35] Speaker 2: see more guys that are Roman and all the storytelling
[21:40] Speaker 2: aspect of it. That's what makes people care.
[21:43] Speaker 1: So as someone new who is now coming to understand
[21:47] Speaker 1: this really intricate business, and WWE is the hardest thing
[21:52] Speaker 1: I've ever done, I'm kind of realizing that now. Because
[21:56] Speaker 1: when I first got in here, I knew I could
[21:58] Speaker 1: shock people with these moves that I could do. And
[22:01] Speaker 1: it's still very fun. And there's that daredevil in me
[22:04] Speaker 1: that's like, how far can I push this? And one
[22:07] Speaker 1: day I'm sure I'll get the answer to that question.
[22:10] Speaker 2: Oh, it comes. It comes eventually.
[22:13] Speaker 1: With the ricochet one, not a great landing. Took a
[22:16] Speaker 1: little bit from me, my soul. And these things happen.
[22:21] Speaker 1: But I worked on that move for months. For months.
[22:24] Speaker 2: Because.
[22:26] Speaker 1: I knew I was in Cleveland in my hometown Brown
[22:28] Speaker 1: stadium and I wanted to send it. I'll do it
[22:30] Speaker 1: once in my life. I'll never do it again because
[22:32] Speaker 1: it is extremely hard and dangerous. And like you said, there's,
[22:37] Speaker 1: there's basically zero margin for error.
[22:39] Speaker 2: No margin for error on that.
[22:40] Speaker 1: Your foot slips, dude. It's no, I had, I had
[22:44] Speaker 1: our referee secretly. You can see this. If you watch
[22:48] Speaker 1: the film back secretly, he'd put his armpit on the
[22:50] Speaker 1: rope and dry it off because if it was like
[22:53] Speaker 1: rub it, just cause if there was oil on there
[22:54] Speaker 1: and this has happened before, There's oil in there. You
[22:57] Speaker 1: slip up and you do the move. But what I'm
[22:59] Speaker 1: getting at is I'm envious of guys like Roman who
[23:05] Speaker 1: don't have to risk their entire like body and health
[23:10] Speaker 1: and wellness because people are so invested in the story,
[23:14] Speaker 1: in the story. And it's such a good note. That's
[23:17] Speaker 1: a veteran note. But that's the hardest part.
[23:20] Speaker 2: It is.
[23:21] Speaker 1: How can you tell that story to get people invested
[23:25] Speaker 1: in who you are?
[23:26] Speaker 2: Yeah, and it takes time because– and especially somebody coming in,
[23:31] Speaker 2: you know, what, two, three years? Three years.
[23:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[23:34] Speaker 2: I mean, at three years, I could barely lace my boots.
[23:37] Speaker 2: I mean, there's just– it's such a process. But it's
[23:40] Speaker 2: trial and error too. Like you have to figure out
[23:43] Speaker 2: because what you want, you want it to look natural.
[23:46] Speaker 2: You want it to look real. And you just have to–
[23:50] Speaker 2: I think a lot of times what happens are the
[23:54] Speaker 2: guy's and I tell them this all the time. It's like,
[23:57] Speaker 2: you don't look like a wrestler to me. You look
[23:59] Speaker 2: like somebody trying to emulate a wrestler. You're trying to
[24:03] Speaker 2: be something that you've seen on TV. I don't get
[24:05] Speaker 2: that with you. I get, I get Logan Paul. That's
[24:10] Speaker 2: what I get. And, and, and that's, and that's awesome. Don't, don't,
[24:14] Speaker 2: don't try to change is my point to that. Don't
[24:15] Speaker 2: try to, don't be that kind of rest. Don't, don't
[24:18] Speaker 2: try to be fit that wrestler. Yeah. And I think
[24:22] Speaker 2: you're smarter. You know that, but I'm just, you know,
[24:24] Speaker 2: talking to you, but, I think that's the, is the
[24:28] Speaker 2: essence is they, they, they have to trial and error.
[24:31] Speaker 1: So you did, you did a decent amount of trial
[24:34] Speaker 1: and error before you found the undertaker.
[24:36] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, man.
[24:36] Speaker 1: I mean, how many, how many characters had you played?
[24:38] Speaker 2: I went through, you know, I mean, a lot of
[24:40] Speaker 2: them didn't count cause it was just me trying to
[24:42] Speaker 2: come up and, you know, back then it was just
[24:45] Speaker 2: trying to find a ring to get in. Like I
[24:48] Speaker 2: would have to pay money to help set up a
[24:51] Speaker 2: ring so that I would get put on some little,
[24:54] Speaker 2: you know, backyard promotion, kind of card with 20 people.
[24:57] Speaker 3: That's crazy. See, will you ever.
[25:00] Speaker 5: Have that same respect that you have for, or that
[25:04] Speaker 5: same vibe that you have towards yourself, having paid your
[25:06] Speaker 5: dues like that and all the other guys that you
[25:08] Speaker 5: used to look at versus, you know, guys that could
[25:10] Speaker 5: come along nowadays and use a bolstered social media, uh,
[25:14] Speaker 5: And skill set, not to remove from his incredible skill set.
[25:17] Speaker 3: No, but it's a great question.
[25:17] Speaker 5: To kind of just appear like The Undertaker would.
[25:21] Speaker 2: No, that is a really good question because there was
[25:26] Speaker 2: a time there where it was like, again, I was
[25:28] Speaker 2: that salty kind of old-timer who had his day. I
[25:32] Speaker 2: was like, look at these kids. Oh, my gosh. But
[25:35] Speaker 2: then when I look back at it, it was like, dude,
[25:38] Speaker 2: you were part of this. You kind of helped pave
[25:41] Speaker 2: the way for so that we have a performance center
[25:44] Speaker 2: down in Orlando where we can, we can send our
[25:47] Speaker 2: guys down there to train with the best. And it
[25:51] Speaker 2: puts us on the same kind of level as NFL
[25:56] Speaker 2: or NBA or major league baseball. I mean, the way
[25:59] Speaker 2: the WWE is run today is it is a pro, uh,
[26:05] Speaker 2: you know, it is a pro franchise.
[26:07] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[26:07] Speaker 2: And so if, if, If we're in a position where
[26:14] Speaker 2: we can, one, have these tryouts and handpick the guys
[26:18] Speaker 2: that we want and you put them in the system
[26:21] Speaker 2: and you pay them, it's just like, man, they're not
[26:25] Speaker 2: paying it. Well, you know what? There's a certain part
[26:30] Speaker 2: of paying dues and going through some of the stuff
[26:33] Speaker 2: that I had to go through that gives you an
[26:35] Speaker 2: edge and makes you a little saltier maybe. But I
[26:39] Speaker 2: don't know that you need that. in this day and age,
[26:42] Speaker 2: I just, you know, I wouldn't change the way I
[26:44] Speaker 2: came up, man. I just wouldn't because it prepared me
[26:47] Speaker 2: for things, you know, that I would never think, you know,
[26:51] Speaker 2: that I would be in situations that I would be
[26:53] Speaker 2: put in. You know, I lived in my car. I
[26:57] Speaker 2: lived in my car for almost a year because I
[26:59] Speaker 2: didn't have, you know, I left, I left school.
[27:02] Speaker 3: How does a guy, which car, which car?
[27:03] Speaker 1: I think it was a 87 Monte Carlo. Yeah.
[27:04] Speaker 2: Well, that's a longer body. When you're 6'8 and 315 pounds,
[27:15] Speaker 2: that gets eaten up really quick.
[27:17] Speaker 1: That's crazy, but it's indicative of how much you love
[27:21] Speaker 1: the business and you love what you do.
[27:22] Speaker 2: And this is what I'm.
[27:23] Speaker 1: Saying, the collision of you, Mark, 6'8, 350-pound guy who
[27:29] Speaker 1: loves professional wrestling, meeting this concept of The Undertaker was perfect.
[27:35] Speaker 1: Like I'm saying, every once in a while... You get that.
[27:39] Speaker 1: And lightning in a bottle. It's, it's literally lightning in
[27:41] Speaker 1: a bottle. Like, like dude, even the fact that you
[27:43] Speaker 1: can do that thing with your eyes and the, and
[27:45] Speaker 1: the tongue, but like, wait, it's all, it's all just
[27:48] Speaker 1: too perfect. And I, I know you want to, or
[27:51] Speaker 1: you told this story probably a ton of times, but like,
[27:55] Speaker 1: I am just so curious. The concept of the undertaker,
[27:59] Speaker 1: did it click for you immediately when you went, this
[28:02] Speaker 1: is it. And I'm going to do this for the
[28:04] Speaker 1: rest of my life.
[28:05] Speaker 2: Um, You know, initially I was just, I was just
[28:10] Speaker 2: excited that I wasn't going to be the egg man.
[28:13] Speaker 2: You know, that was, that was a legitimate, that was,
[28:17] Speaker 2: that was a legitimate source of anxiety for me for
[28:20] Speaker 2: a while, but I was going to, you know, cause I,
[28:22] Speaker 2: I was, I'd been at WCW and I was trying
[28:25] Speaker 2: to grow my hair out and I'm like, He's going
[28:28] Speaker 2: to shave my head and shave my, I'm going to
[28:30] Speaker 2: be a.
[28:30] Speaker 1: You know, I got a big ass head anyway. I
[28:32] Speaker 1: look like an egg.
[28:32] Speaker 2: So I'm going to be this, you know, I was
[28:34] Speaker 2: just like, I was losing sleep about it. Cause it just,
[28:37] Speaker 2: that's just the way it wasn't. There were so many
[28:40] Speaker 2: over the top outlandish characters. And, uh, you know, the
[28:43] Speaker 2: old man called me one day and it was, he
[28:47] Speaker 2: didn't call me Mark. He just said, is this the undertaker?
[28:50] Speaker 1: You know?
[28:50] Speaker 2: And I'm having this moment, like I'm covering the phone up.
[28:53] Speaker 1: Right.
[28:53] Speaker 2: And I'm like, Undertaker, Undertaker. Undertaker's not Eggman. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
[29:03] Speaker 2: this is the Undertaker. Ah, great, man, great. Can you
[29:07] Speaker 2: be up here tomorrow? I want to show you some stuff.
[29:09] Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah. I got no money. I have no
[29:14] Speaker 2: clue that they're going to send me a ticket. I'm
[29:16] Speaker 2: greener than greener can be. So they flew me up there.
[29:21] Speaker 2: And so Vince had the concept of the Undertaker, the
[29:23] Speaker 2: look and everything. and kind of explained to me what
[29:27] Speaker 2: it was. And, you know, I was like, this could
[29:29] Speaker 2: be really cool. And then, you know, once, you know,
[29:33] Speaker 2: then they started making the original costume and everything. I
[29:37] Speaker 2: was like, yeah, this is like, because you know i
[29:39] Speaker 2: loved like old the old clint eastwood westerns right and
[29:44] Speaker 2: i'm like okay all right and then you know the
[29:48] Speaker 2: you know is he is he dead or is he
[29:50] Speaker 2: alive kind of thing so then it's like okay so
[29:52] Speaker 2: now there's some horror in this thing too right so
[29:54] Speaker 2: there's all these different elements that that uh you know
[29:58] Speaker 2: that i did have a lot of interest in. So, um,
[30:02] Speaker 2: could I have told you then in, in 1990, uh, that,
[30:06] Speaker 2: you know, 30 plus years later that I'd be sitting
[30:09] Speaker 2: here talking to you about it? No, no, absolutely not.
[30:12] Speaker 1: Uh, but it had to have hit at some point
[30:14] Speaker 1: where you're like, this is working. Yeah, no, no, no.
[30:16] Speaker 2: It, it was like by 90. So I started in
[30:19] Speaker 2: November of 90. Um, yeah, by the end of 91, like,
[30:26] Speaker 2: there's there's there's jake flair and myself we're all the
[30:29] Speaker 2: top heels already you know and i'm like okay and
[30:33] Speaker 2: then the switch to me you know this character the
[30:36] Speaker 2: darkest character that anyone's ever seen is now becoming a
[30:39] Speaker 2: baby face you know this is like yeah okay this
[30:42] Speaker 2: thing's got legs and this whole time you know i'm
[30:46] Speaker 2: i'm developing and and and figuring out what works and
[30:50] Speaker 2: sound like my coffin door somebody somebody let somebody out
[30:56] Speaker 2: of the coffin that's my manager uh he's he's a
[31:00] Speaker 2: scumbag who always gives me the brass knuckles yeah that's
[31:02] Speaker 2: the one right there yeah yeah.
[31:05] Speaker 5: I was gonna i was gonna ask about the uh
[31:07] Speaker 5: the finisher and and and how quickly did the did
[31:11] Speaker 5: the move set how quickly did the tombstone join you
[31:13] Speaker 5: in the process.
[31:14] Speaker 2: Well funny enough like with the with the with the
[31:17] Speaker 2: move set is like i had to I had a move.
[31:21] Speaker 2: I was pretty athletic. Yeah.
[31:23] Speaker 1: For your size especially?
[31:25] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[31:26] Speaker 1: Crazy.
[31:26] Speaker 2: I had to pull in the reins because I was
[31:29] Speaker 2: still like the first couple of matches that I did,
[31:33] Speaker 2: you know, I'm still doing leapfrogs and drop downs and
[31:37] Speaker 2: drop kicks. And then, you know, as I'm watching it
[31:39] Speaker 2: back and I go, it doesn't work. So I had
[31:42] Speaker 2: to kind of put my ego aside because nobody my
[31:46] Speaker 2: size was doing– like that right and then i had
[31:50] Speaker 2: to go it doesn't work it doesn't work so you
[31:54] Speaker 2: know then i had to you know then i come
[31:56] Speaker 2: up with this really really slow pace where it was
[31:59] Speaker 2: methodical and i was always like that that that shark
[32:03] Speaker 2: that had an injured seal in the water right and
[32:05] Speaker 2: i'm just circling around and then i was like but
[32:09] Speaker 2: then there would be that instant somewhere in there that
[32:11] Speaker 2: where i'd hit something fast like You know, everybody would
[32:14] Speaker 2: kind of get lulled into my pace, and then, bam,
[32:17] Speaker 2: I'd do something fast, like the big flying clothesline or
[32:19] Speaker 2: whatever it was, and then roll, boom, and right back
[32:22] Speaker 2: into the slow pace. People are like, what the hell?
[32:26] Speaker 1: What was that?
[32:27] Speaker 2: He can move. So it was those first few years,
[32:31] Speaker 2: that's what I was doing, is I was throwing stuff
[32:33] Speaker 2: up against the wall to see what stuck, and it
[32:37] Speaker 2: just resonated. I think everybody kind of has this little
[32:40] Speaker 2: darker side anyway that kind of, either they embrace it
[32:44] Speaker 2: or they suppress it, but it's in there and everybody.
[32:47] Speaker 2: And I think people, it really resonated with people like,
[32:50] Speaker 2: you know, it's all right to be, you know, a
[32:52] Speaker 2: little different, but you know, it's, he's got some issues.
[32:55] Speaker 1: But he's got some issues.
[32:56] Speaker 2: He's got some issues, but he's kind of cool.
[32:59] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[32:59] Speaker 2: And funny enough, like, so back in the day, like
[33:03] Speaker 2: coming out of Matt, you've worked in the garden now, right? Well, back,
[33:07] Speaker 2: you know, back in the day, they didn't let us,
[33:09] Speaker 2: drive up and you know get your get out of
[33:12] Speaker 2: your cars and everything we used to have to park
[33:13] Speaker 2: across the street in the parking lot and then walk
[33:16] Speaker 2: across all those people see these are.
[33:18] Speaker 5: The moments that you're talking about that he goes under
[33:21] Speaker 5: the stadium and the sprinter and people carry him.
[33:24] Speaker 2: In exactly right dude yeah with the big fans exactly
[33:29] Speaker 2: if you can get it done go for it but
[33:33] Speaker 2: yeah so we used to have to walk across the
[33:35] Speaker 2: street right and you know new yorkers too right they're
[33:39] Speaker 2: just like.
[33:40] Speaker 4: Get the fuck out of this but i come it's
[33:45] Speaker 4: the strangest thing man i would get out of the
[33:47] Speaker 4: car and even my street clothes although they weren't the
[33:52] Speaker 4: same as what i wore in the they were dark
[33:53] Speaker 4: like if it was winter time i had a long
[33:55] Speaker 4: black coat i mean i live this shit.
[33:58] Speaker 2: And It would be like the Red Sea parting with
[34:02] Speaker 2: these people. They didn't want to mess with me. Hey, man,
[34:06] Speaker 2: you can say it for me. You're 6'8, dude.
[34:09] Speaker 1: And we don't know if you were alive.
[34:11] Speaker 3: At the time.
[34:12] Speaker 2: And that's where I was going with it. People would ask,
[34:16] Speaker 2: is he alive or is he dead? I'm like, are you.
[34:17] Speaker 1: Fucking kidding me? Dude, when I was a kid watching you,
[34:21] Speaker 1: Straight up, I thought, I don't know, I thought it
[34:24] Speaker 1: was like a corpse or a zombie or something. It
[34:28] Speaker 1: was so good. And again, the eye roll, the infamous
[34:33] Speaker 1: Undertaker eye roll. How is that something, because I tried it,
[34:37] Speaker 1: I can't do it. Have you always been able to
[34:39] Speaker 1: roll your eyes like that?
[34:40] Speaker 2: No, I just did it. I did it in a match.
[34:42] Speaker 2: It was totally by chance. I think I was working
[34:46] Speaker 2: with Greg the Hammer Valentine. And I had him down
[34:50] Speaker 2: in the corner and, you know, my, my, I think
[34:51] Speaker 2: my hair and everything was kind of getting my ass.
[34:53] Speaker 2: I kind of slung my, my head back. And when
[34:55] Speaker 2: I slung my head back, my eyes kind of rolled too.
[34:58] Speaker 2: And I was like, and I held them. So I
[35:00] Speaker 2: come back to the gorilla position and everybody's just flipping out. Like,
[35:03] Speaker 2: what the hell was that with the eyes? And I
[35:05] Speaker 2: was like, I don't know. I mean, I just tried it.
[35:07] Speaker 2: What did it look like? And they're like, you know, they're,
[35:09] Speaker 2: they're trying to play it back for me. Look at
[35:10] Speaker 2: this shit. I was like, Oh, that's creepy, dude. That's yeah.
[35:14] Speaker 2: So the eye roll and then the, you know, the
[35:16] Speaker 2: tongue deal, it was just at all.
[35:18] Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, And then another thing that was just perfect,
[35:22] Speaker 1: one of the most iconic pieces of The Undertaker, your music.
[35:26] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, the funeral dirge. Yeah, it was. How? Jim Johnston, man.
[35:32] Speaker 2: He was amazing. He'd sit down, and he would start composing,
[35:39] Speaker 2: and then he'd bring me in, and I was like.
[35:42] Speaker 2: That's perfect, man. That is so good.
[35:45] Speaker 1: Are you, I mean, this was Mike's question. I'll let
[35:47] Speaker 1: you ask.
[35:48] Speaker 3: Did you see Adesanya walk out?
[35:50] Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
[35:51] Speaker 2: Oh yeah. What did you, what did you think of it?
[35:53] Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, for, obviously for, you know, he couldn't
[35:57] Speaker 1: go full on. What did you really.
[35:58] Speaker 3: Think of it?
[35:59] Speaker 2: It was, it was, I was like, it's, it's, Pretty cool.
[36:02] Speaker 2: He did, you know, obviously he's a fan of the product.
[36:05] Speaker 2: I mean, he knew, you know.
[36:07] Speaker 1: Were you watching from a.
[36:08] Speaker 2: Oh, I was watching, yeah.
[36:09] Speaker 3: From a critical standpoint, though?
[36:10] Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no. Absolutely not.
[36:12] Speaker 1: Because obviously he's not going to do what you did.
[36:14] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[36:14] Speaker 1: But the fact that he did it, like Mike said,
[36:17] Speaker 1: that's one of the coolest walkouts ever.
[36:20] Speaker 2: Yeah. Even to the extent of what he did in
[36:23] Speaker 2: leading to a fight, you know, an MMA fight.
[36:25] Speaker 1: It was, yeah.
[36:27] Speaker 2: It's pretty.
[36:27] Speaker 1: Wait, was that where he beat Pereira?
[36:28] Speaker 3: I think so.
[36:29] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
[36:30] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[36:30] Speaker 1: He won.
[36:32] Speaker 3: Yeah did you look at it as like an ode
[36:34] Speaker 3: like an homage oh.
[36:35] Speaker 2: Yeah yeah yeah oh absolutely yeah i.
[36:38] Speaker 1: Gotta ask i have to ask what does it take
[36:41] Speaker 1: to get you back in character like they did in saudi.
[36:50] Speaker 6: You know the answer so the last time that i
[36:56] Speaker 6: was that i was over there uh um And I
[36:59] Speaker 6: did the, the, the thing for the soccer tournament season.
[37:04] Speaker 2: And, uh, at the end of it. So I, all
[37:07] Speaker 2: my mom, my, my cats and my, all my coats
[37:11] Speaker 2: throughout the years, they're all at the warehouse in Connecticut,
[37:14] Speaker 2: except for, for why I had one hat and one
[37:18] Speaker 2: duster left that I wore that night in, in Saudi.
[37:22] Speaker 2: And then when it was all over, I found a
[37:25] Speaker 2: Prince Turk guy. I said, your excellency. These are yours.
[37:31] Speaker 2: So I gave them to Prince Turkey. And so now
[37:36] Speaker 2: I don't have them anymore.
[37:37] Speaker 3: Got nothing.
[37:38] Speaker 1: Got to go to the warehouse.
[37:39] Speaker 3: It's a good guy to gift stuff to.
[37:41] Speaker 2: You get Mark Calloway or you get the more of
[37:45] Speaker 2: American badass hybrid version. I'll dress in black, but I'm
[37:49] Speaker 2: not putting the hat and coat back on.
[37:51] Speaker 3: Was that 2018?
[37:53] Speaker 1: No, no, no.
[37:53] Speaker 2: That was more recently. Way more recently. That was this year.
[37:56] Speaker 3: Oh, the last time. Because you had done something in
[37:58] Speaker 3: Saudi earlier. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[38:00] Speaker 2: I did something. I think I did something with AJ
[38:07] Speaker 2: for the Saudi Cup or something like that.
[38:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, because I was going to ask you and your
[38:12] Speaker 3: feelings on this.
[38:15] Speaker 5: Around 2018 and thereafter, 2020, you had a few appearances.
[38:20] Speaker 5: And there were some people in the community who Rolling Stone,
[38:23] Speaker 5: for example, who's a little bit critical of your continued
[38:27] Speaker 5: appearances in the space as a vet who you would
[38:31] Speaker 5: think would be welcomed with open arms for any time
[38:35] Speaker 5: he wants to make an appearance in the organization that
[38:39] Speaker 5: he helped build. Did you feel a sense of betrayal
[38:41] Speaker 5: from the community for that acting?
[38:45] Speaker 2: No, because there's not a bigger critic of me than myself, right?
[38:50] Speaker 2: And this is the first thing Tom I haven't even
[38:53] Speaker 2: heard about Rolling Stone, so.
[38:55] Speaker 3: Oh, good. Okay, well, sorry about that.
[38:56] Speaker 2: Thanks for bringing that up, man.
[38:57] Speaker 3: Well, I have to go to the bathroom now.
[38:59] Speaker 1: But I don't, yeah, no, I don't, I don't.
[39:01] Speaker 3: But did you see any?
[39:02] Speaker 2: Rolling Stone is not my.
[39:03] Speaker 3: Fuck Rolling Stone. Yeah, it's not my. Did you see
[39:05] Speaker 3: any of the.
[39:06] Speaker 2: No, no, I had, I'm struggling on the inside myself. Like,
[39:10] Speaker 2: I'm at that point of my career, I'm looking for
[39:13] Speaker 2: one match.
[39:15] Speaker 3: I knew, I knew you were.
[39:16] Speaker 1: Okay, here we go. No, I knew, I can tell.
[39:18] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[39:18] Speaker 1: Dude, you're backstage, and I can see you, like, itching
[39:22] Speaker 1: and just the length that you went. This was another
[39:25] Speaker 1: line of questions I wanted.
[39:26] Speaker 2: To ask you.
[39:26] Speaker 3: We'll have to get there. But do you need one
[39:29] Speaker 3: match to... cap it? Is that what you mean?
[39:31] Speaker 1: That's what I was looking for.
[39:33] Speaker 2: Got it. Just to put the exclamation point on the career.
[39:36] Speaker 2: I wanted to have that one match I could hang
[39:39] Speaker 2: my hat on and say goodbye. Because my body, it
[39:45] Speaker 2: was breaking down at that point to the point where
[39:50] Speaker 2: I can walk and talk and I could get out
[39:53] Speaker 2: right now and I could do a match. But it's
[39:57] Speaker 2: not a match that you as an Undertaker fan or
[40:00] Speaker 2: an Undertaker fan is like, they may give me the
[40:05] Speaker 2: benefit of the doubt because I've got all that equity
[40:07] Speaker 2: built up in all those years. But you don't want that.
[40:09] Speaker 2: But I don't want that. That was one of the
[40:11] Speaker 2: big things that I was trying to fight against. And
[40:14] Speaker 2: it was what made it so hard is I did
[40:16] Speaker 2: not want to become a parody of myself. Like I
[40:19] Speaker 2: had too much pride in what I'd accomplished and what
[40:22] Speaker 2: I'd done through the years. But I also, I wanted
[40:27] Speaker 2: to have that one match where I could hang my
[40:30] Speaker 2: hat on it and say, you know, I could put
[40:32] Speaker 2: my six shooters up on the mantle and say, see ya.
[40:35] Speaker 1: It's, I can understand it's something you want. But I
[40:39] Speaker 1: think moments might be equally as valuable. The moment you
[40:43] Speaker 1: had at WrestleMania 40. I don't know if I've ever
[40:47] Speaker 1: heard a pop that big in my life.
[40:48] Speaker 2: It was– I mean, that was fun.
[40:51] Speaker 1: And that really– that helped me actually a lot because–
[40:57] Speaker 1: Like personally?
[40:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, personally. Like because I was still– even to then,
[41:02] Speaker 2: I was still struggling. Like I will come to the
[41:04] Speaker 2: shows and I will say hellos and, you know, and
[41:07] Speaker 2: I'll talk to some of the guys and maybe watch
[41:10] Speaker 2: a couple of matches. But then I got to leave
[41:12] Speaker 2: because still my body and my mindset is like, dude,
[41:16] Speaker 2: you should be getting ready right now. cause you should
[41:19] Speaker 2: be going out in a little bit. And, and it's
[41:23] Speaker 2: especially at mania because I, my, my history with mania
[41:26] Speaker 2: is of course, you know what it is, but you know,
[41:30] Speaker 2: so I'd, I'd have to leave because I just like,
[41:33] Speaker 2: I get, you know, not, not depression, but it's just like,
[41:35] Speaker 2: I feel like that need, I need to be getting
[41:38] Speaker 2: ready to go out and perform and wanted to perform.
[41:41] Speaker 2: And especially at mania, I mean, that's this, that's just
[41:44] Speaker 2: a whole nother level of, of, you know, being on the,
[41:48] Speaker 2: you know, on the card at mania is just, is awesome.
[41:51] Speaker 2: But yeah, those last few years, like I'm, I'm, I'm
[41:54] Speaker 2: battling father time. Who's undefeated. Um, you know, I've got,
[41:59] Speaker 2: I've got injuries that, that need to be, you know,
[42:03] Speaker 2: knees need to be replaced backs, you know, got issues,
[42:06] Speaker 2: but that, that, that one part, that part in your
[42:10] Speaker 2: head that that's got you this far says, you know,
[42:13] Speaker 2: you still got one in you somewhere. You know, you
[42:17] Speaker 2: got one match that people are going to go, wow.
[42:20] Speaker 1: Do you think it's true?
[42:24] Speaker 2: I don't know. I think I took my body to
[42:27] Speaker 2: the limits of what it could do. Because now, you know,
[42:31] Speaker 2: the last few things that I did, I've always picked
[42:35] Speaker 2: my stuff apart. You know, just like, man, I wish
[42:38] Speaker 2: I had done that differently.
[42:39] Speaker 3: You watch back film?
[42:40] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
[42:40] Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
[42:41] Speaker 2: Yeah. And I never watch with anybody. I have to
[42:43] Speaker 2: be by myself because I don't want to hear anybody saying, oh, shit,
[42:47] Speaker 2: that was great. That was good. I want to– because
[42:49] Speaker 2: I'm looking for the things that I do and the
[42:51] Speaker 2: transitions and the little things that people– that they don't
[42:57] Speaker 2: necessarily pick up while they're watching it but make everything
[42:59] Speaker 2: make sense, right? And so I would just pick everything apart.
[43:05] Speaker 2: And I could tell, like, my body was getting stiff.
[43:10] Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
[43:11] Speaker 2: And like, there wasn't, you know, like the, like, man,
[43:16] Speaker 2: it was horrible. Um, the match that I had with Goldberg, uh,
[43:20] Speaker 2: in Saudi Arabia, you know, there was never a time
[43:24] Speaker 2: in my career where I didn't feel like no matter
[43:29] Speaker 2: what happened that I couldn't figure out a way to
[43:32] Speaker 2: make it all work and make it make sense, get
[43:35] Speaker 2: it back on track and still have, you know, have
[43:38] Speaker 2: a decent match. And, you know, he got concussed early on.
[43:43] Speaker 2: It's 98 degrees at midnight in the desert. And, you know,
[43:50] Speaker 2: it was just like a train wreck. And the more
[43:53] Speaker 2: I tried to fix it, the worse it got. And,
[43:57] Speaker 2: you know, I'm not pointing fingers. It's just one of
[44:00] Speaker 2: those things that happen where, like, I just didn't have
[44:03] Speaker 2: it in me physically anymore to make things right. Mm-hmm.
[44:08] Speaker 2: And so, you know, so I'm getting, you know, I'm
[44:10] Speaker 2: getting all that, right. I'm getting all, all that. And then,
[44:12] Speaker 2: and like I said, I'm my worst critic, but I
[44:15] Speaker 2: still feel like, you know, if I can get, there's
[44:17] Speaker 2: that one person somewhere that I can have, you know,
[44:20] Speaker 2: and I'm not looking for anybody that's going to say, well,
[44:22] Speaker 2: they could carry me. That would kill me if I
[44:25] Speaker 2: felt like I was being carried through a match.
[44:28] Speaker 3: So does, does that feel like a, did you see
[44:30] Speaker 3: the wrestler with Mickey Rourke?
[44:32] Speaker 1: I did.
[44:32] Speaker 3: I would assume.
[44:33] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[44:33] Speaker 3: I'm sure it has meaning to you.
[44:35] Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely.
[44:35] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[44:36] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[44:37] Speaker 5: You know, obviously for like a guy like that, who's
[44:39] Speaker 5: still wrestling and you're at the time wrestling in back rooms,
[44:42] Speaker 5: he's looking for another, you know, chance to kind of
[44:44] Speaker 5: have that moment, but he's putting it all on the line.
[44:47] Speaker 3: His life. I mean, at the end, we don't really
[44:49] Speaker 3: know exactly what.
[44:49] Speaker 5: Happened, but do you feel, do you ever feel like,
[44:55] Speaker 5: do you ever feel like maybe that moment has already happened?
[44:59] Speaker 2: Oh, no, I'm done, brother. Yeah, it's all over now.
[45:04] Speaker 3: I don't know if you really know about your streak. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[45:09] Speaker 3: The greatest of all time.
[45:11] Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, man. We're good. I had
[45:15] Speaker 2: my last match was with AJ Styles. We did that
[45:17] Speaker 2: cinematic deal, which for us, we got lucky because that
[45:22] Speaker 2: was right in the middle of COVID. and um we
[45:25] Speaker 2: got to go off-site and do something different which was
[45:29] Speaker 2: fun and then i think we delivered on it was
[45:32] Speaker 2: it a was it a traditional wrestling match like we
[45:35] Speaker 2: had planned absolutely not um but i was i was
[45:40] Speaker 2: like okay i think this is you know we started
[45:43] Speaker 2: shooting that thing at like eight o'clock at night we
[45:46] Speaker 2: wrapped it at sunrise uh putting that thing together and
[45:51] Speaker 2: it's at about 4 a.m. when it really dawns on me. Like, dude,
[45:55] Speaker 2: you're done. You know, it's over.
[45:59] Speaker 1: Well, look, like I said, I mean, for me, at
[46:01] Speaker 1: least my mentality, something that's very important to me, even
[46:05] Speaker 1: just the way I build my businesses, are moments. At
[46:08] Speaker 1: least in the WWE, I try to get that one
[46:11] Speaker 1: moment that people will be like, do you remember the
[46:13] Speaker 1: midair collision, right? And like, for me, now as like
[46:18] Speaker 1: a really invested wrestling fan, like I said, you coming
[46:22] Speaker 1: back at WrestleMania 40 to chokeslam The Rock had me
[46:27] Speaker 1: feeling like.
[46:28] Speaker 2: A kid again.
[46:29] Speaker 1: I don't know if you've seen the video of me reacting, but, man,
[46:32] Speaker 1: you have... what 70 80 000 people in the in
[46:36] Speaker 1: the stadium all reacting the same way and that's the
[46:39] Speaker 1: moment like.
[46:39] Speaker 5: You're good man you're no but that's not yeah but
[46:42] Speaker 5: that's not gonna be the one that he's got moments
[46:45] Speaker 5: that are like yeah.
[46:45] Speaker 2: No that was fun and it was.
[46:48] Speaker 7: But you said it did something for you like i
[46:49] Speaker 7: know yeah yeah it was it kind of gave me
[46:52] Speaker 7: the that closure like you know what i still got
[46:55] Speaker 7: it yeah but i don't want to now right you
[46:59] Speaker 7: know you know i'm i'm good and it was the
[47:02] Speaker 7: It was just the right group of people, too, that
[47:04] Speaker 7: it happened with.
[47:06] Speaker 2: And funny enough, I'm up. I don't know if you've
[47:11] Speaker 2: heard the story, but they had called me earlier in
[47:13] Speaker 2: the week and mentioned that they might want to do something.
[47:16] Speaker 1: Oh, wow. Yeah. Paul calls me on a Tuesday.
[47:19] Speaker 2: Quick. Tuesday.
[47:21] Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
[47:22] Speaker 2: And drops the seed. I was like, all right, man,
[47:24] Speaker 2: let me know. I'm going to be there. whoa so
[47:27] Speaker 2: i'm up in the suite chilling with my family right
[47:30] Speaker 2: my friends which i've never been able to do in
[47:32] Speaker 2: all these years and i'm sitting there i feel my
[47:35] Speaker 2: phone buzzing in my back pocket get it out.
[47:41] Speaker 1: Where it go i'll be back in a minute wait
[47:45] Speaker 1: that casual yeah.
[47:46] Speaker 2: I told my wife i was like yeah i'll be
[47:47] Speaker 2: back in a minute and she she knew but nobody
[47:50] Speaker 2: else in the suite had a clue That's insane. Yeah,
[47:53] Speaker 2: I kayfabed everybody.
[47:56] Speaker 1: I have to ask, what do you do under the
[47:58] Speaker 1: ring when you're just sitting there? Or is that not
[48:00] Speaker 1: where you come from?
[48:01] Speaker 3: Where do you come from?
[48:02] Speaker 2: That night, no, I had to run from the other
[48:06] Speaker 2: end of the stadium.
[48:06] Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw it.
[48:07] Speaker 1: But you're under the ring for like 30 minutes. No,
[48:10] Speaker 1: not at Mania.
[48:12] Speaker 3: How did you get there?
[48:13] Speaker 1: Oh, you ran in when the lights were off?
[48:15] Speaker 2: No, so all the finishes, while all these people were
[48:19] Speaker 2: coming in, you know, They brought me in from the
[48:23] Speaker 2: far end of the stadium. And then behind hard camera,
[48:27] Speaker 2: they had a little place set there. So I staged
[48:30] Speaker 2: right there. And then I think when Seth went, I
[48:34] Speaker 2: edged up a little bit closer. Hooded up? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[48:38] Speaker 2: And then when it was my turn, they went black.
[48:42] Speaker 2: I said, oh, man, knees don't fail me now, brother.
[48:44] Speaker 2: Because I'm working on brand new knees. It was so good.
[48:48] Speaker 1: It was such a perfect job.
[48:50] Speaker 3: Like, ugh.
[48:51] Speaker 2: It was, yeah, so it was fun, and I go
[48:54] Speaker 2: back up, and everybody in the suite's like, what the.
[48:57] Speaker 3: Hell are you doing? You didn't tell us.
[48:59] Speaker 2: No, so, but yeah, I got a couple of shit
[49:03] Speaker 2: for that, but it was more fun, right? It was
[49:06] Speaker 2: more fun that you didn't know. If I'd have told you, yeah.
[49:10] Speaker 3: It wouldn't have been as fun.
[49:11] Speaker 2: It wouldn't have been as fun, no.
[49:12] Speaker 5: It was insane, and we don't like to do superlatives
[49:15] Speaker 5: on this shit. Go for it, I just want to
[49:17] Speaker 5: ask about a couple more moments. A couple more of
[49:19] Speaker 5: his iconic moments.
[49:20] Speaker 3: No, that's where I was going. Oh, specific ones. Go ahead.
[49:23] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[49:25] Speaker 1: When you threw Mankind off the top of the cell,
[49:28] Speaker 1: did you think you killed him?
[49:30] Speaker 2: Dude, look. So truth be told, I didn't want to
[49:34] Speaker 2: do it. Like I said, Mick, dude. This is craziness, right?
[49:41] Speaker 2: I said, here's the, and here's the, his mindset was
[49:46] Speaker 2: that the first, the first hell in the cell was
[49:49] Speaker 2: in 97 bad blood, me and Shawn Michaels. And it
[49:52] Speaker 2: was fucking good. I mean, I don't, I don't usually
[49:54] Speaker 2: put my stuff over, but it was good. Shawn Michaels
[49:57] Speaker 2: could have a five-star match with a broomstick. Okay. I mean,
[50:00] Speaker 2: that's just how good he, that's how good he is
[50:03] Speaker 2: or was or whatever. So we have this killer, Hell
[50:07] Speaker 2: in the cell match. And that was Kane's debut and
[50:10] Speaker 2: all that. Right. So we get to, so it's now
[50:13] Speaker 2: it's a few years later and Mick keeps looking back
[50:16] Speaker 2: at that. And he's like, there's no way that we
[50:18] Speaker 2: can have that kind of match. And I'm like, Mick,
[50:20] Speaker 2: we can do it. Just, you know, so he, he
[50:23] Speaker 2: had in his mind, like he needed to do something
[50:25] Speaker 2: that would fool the people into thinking that they had
[50:28] Speaker 2: seen something.
[50:29] Speaker 1: Right.
[50:30] Speaker 2: So he's on me week after week. He's like, I
[50:33] Speaker 2: think I can do it. You know, you're throwing me
[50:36] Speaker 2: off the top. And I'm like, Mick, I'm not throwing
[50:38] Speaker 2: you off the fucking top. It's murder.
[50:41] Speaker 5: I don't care.
[50:41] Speaker 2: I'm not throwing you off the top, right? So it
[50:44] Speaker 2: gets to be like the day of. And still, like,
[50:48] Speaker 2: I've got a hard no on it. And then he
[50:50] Speaker 2: goes and gets in the old man's ear, right? So
[50:53] Speaker 2: then they come and they double team me. Oh, yeah, Mark,
[50:57] Speaker 2: he says he can do it. And I'm like.
[51:00] Speaker 2: We don't need to do it. I said, fine. All right.
[51:04] Speaker 2: You want to get thrown off the top? Fine. I'll
[51:05] Speaker 2: throw you off the top. There you happy. He's I've been,
[51:08] Speaker 2: you know, and he, and he had told me like,
[51:10] Speaker 2: I've been up there.
[51:11] Speaker 3: I could see.
[51:13] Speaker 2: He never went to the top. He never went to
[51:15] Speaker 2: the top of the cell. He never looked at it,
[51:17] Speaker 2: see what it looked like. And there we are. And
[51:20] Speaker 2: it's like, you ready?
[51:23] Speaker 1: Bye.
[51:23] Speaker 2: And then, you know, people think I'm full of shit.
[51:27] Speaker 2: When I say this, like, this is the one time
[51:29] Speaker 2: that I, in my life that I had a total
[51:31] Speaker 2: out of body experience because I let Lou, I let
[51:34] Speaker 2: him go and I can see myself standing there and
[51:38] Speaker 2: I can also see him falling, which seemed like it
[51:41] Speaker 2: took 20 seconds for him to hit that table.
[51:44] Speaker 1: Right.
[51:44] Speaker 2: And I'm just, and then he hits and then the
[51:48] Speaker 2: way he was hit was so much force that he
[51:51] Speaker 2: hit and then he slid under the railing that was there.
[51:54] Speaker 1: Right.
[51:55] Speaker 2: And I don't know that he could move. And I'm
[51:57] Speaker 2: just waiting. I'm just looking at him like, fuck, come on, Mick, move.
[52:00] Speaker 1: I just killed a man.
[52:02] Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. I'm like, that's what I'm going to go
[52:04] Speaker 2: down in history for. I killed Mick Foley. And I'm
[52:07] Speaker 2: just thinking like, Mick, just move. I'm saying this in
[52:10] Speaker 2: my head. And I'm oblivious to the fact that they've
[52:12] Speaker 2: raised the cage and I'm standing on top of it.
[52:16] Speaker 2: And I'm just like, okay, Mick, just move. Finally, he
[52:19] Speaker 2: starts stirring, you know, and I think somebody might have
[52:21] Speaker 2: turned and gave me a, you know, he's okay. And
[52:25] Speaker 2: I'm thinking, wow, okay, that's over with. That's some bitch.
[52:30] Speaker 2: He starts climbing back up. I'm like, oh, shit, man.
[52:33] Speaker 2: This motherfucker doesn't die. This guy wants to die. So
[52:39] Speaker 2: little did we know that that was going to be
[52:42] Speaker 2: the easiest part of his night because when I chokeslammed
[52:46] Speaker 2: him through the top. Dude.
[52:47] Speaker 3: Dude.
[52:50] Speaker 1: You didn't expect that to break like that? No, no, no, no, no.
[52:52] Speaker 1: That's horrifying. That's horrifying.
[52:55] Speaker 3: He wrote through it. It was the top of the cell.
[52:59] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[52:59] Speaker 2: He rotates another couple of inches, dude. He don't get up.
[53:04] Speaker 1: This business is cool.
[53:05] Speaker 2: It is crazy.
[53:06] Speaker 1: And crazy. Yeah.
[53:08] Speaker 2: He goes through it. So we're walking up on that
[53:12] Speaker 2: mesh and you can hear like the, the brackets that they,
[53:16] Speaker 2: they're popping off like me and Sean weren't that heavy,
[53:20] Speaker 2: I guess, but you know, Mick was a heavy, I
[53:23] Speaker 2: don't know what they did differently. But it's like, and
[53:26] Speaker 2: you could see my foot I'd step and it would
[53:29] Speaker 2: just keep going down. And like, what was, what was
[53:32] Speaker 2: supposed to happen is we hit that panel and then
[53:36] Speaker 2: it was supposed to kind of give way in a corner.
[53:40] Speaker 2: And we were going to, cause I had a broken
[53:41] Speaker 2: ankle going into the match. So we were going to,
[53:46] Speaker 2: we were going to go, we were going to kind
[53:49] Speaker 2: of slide down one of the panels and then get
[53:52] Speaker 2: back into the ring and finish the match. But I
[53:56] Speaker 2: can tell, like, this thing is not going to hold.
[53:58] Speaker 2: So at the last second, I get off of the mesh,
[54:01] Speaker 2: and I stand on the poles. You said, fuck this.
[54:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, hell with that, brother.
[54:05] Speaker 2: And, man, when I choked him, he just never stopped, man.
[54:10] Speaker 2: He hit that thing, and that thing popped all the
[54:12] Speaker 2: way open. Then the chair that was on top comes down,
[54:16] Speaker 2: hits him in the face, too.
[54:17] Speaker 1: He's crazy. Dude, he is crazy.
[54:24] Speaker 2: He's a sweetheart of a man, but man, he took
[54:26] Speaker 2: some damage.
[54:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, he's missing an ear.
[54:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, he did lose an ear.
[54:31] Speaker 1: Lost an ear wrestling.
[54:33] Speaker 5: I was 13 for that Hell in a Cell in 98.
[54:36] Speaker 3: I watched that live.
[54:38] Speaker 5: And it was one of the craziest things I've ever
[54:41] Speaker 5: seen in my entire life.
[54:41] Speaker 1: It was bizarre.
[54:42] Speaker 3: Absolutely insane.
[54:43] Speaker 5: When you look at that moment, was that, you said
[54:48] Speaker 5: it was the only time you've had this out-of-body experience.
[54:50] Speaker 5: Was that to you insane? the standout moment? Was that
[54:53] Speaker 5: the biggest moment of your career? Or was it a
[54:56] Speaker 5: Shawn Michaels, you know, WrestleMania? Or was it a, you know.
[54:58] Speaker 2: I think at that point, you know, I mean, by
[55:02] Speaker 2: this time, I'd won the title, which was a big moment. But,
[55:08] Speaker 2: I mean, in retrospect, I mean... People still talk about
[55:12] Speaker 2: that to this day. I mean, it's been, what, 25 years?
[55:17] Speaker 2: However long ago it's been now. 27.
[55:20] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[55:20] Speaker 2: I mean, people will still stop me on the street like, man,
[55:23] Speaker 2: that time you chokeslam, you know, Mick. You know. One
[55:27] Speaker 2: of the weird things about that I really remember is, like,
[55:31] Speaker 2: after he got his faculties back again, you know, I'm like, Mick, let's–
[55:38] Speaker 2: Let's go home. Yeah. And he's like, no, no, no.
[55:40] Speaker 2: We got to eat what he had to get to
[55:41] Speaker 2: the tax. That's how he thinks. This is how he thinks. Right.
[55:45] Speaker 2: We got to get to the tax. I have thrown
[55:50] Speaker 2: you off of this thing. I've thrown you through it.
[55:54] Speaker 2: I said, I don't think they care about the town.
[55:55] Speaker 2: We got to get to the tax.
[55:56] Speaker 7: Right.
[55:56] Speaker 2: And the whole time I'm like, you know, I'm looking
[55:58] Speaker 2: at him. It's kind of gross, but like, he's got
[56:02] Speaker 2: this huge booger. What I think is a booger in
[56:05] Speaker 2: his nostril.
[56:05] Speaker 1: Right.
[56:06] Speaker 2: And it's weird, like the things you pick up in
[56:08] Speaker 2: the course of a match. Well, come to find out,
[56:10] Speaker 2: it's not a booger. It's his tooth.
[56:13] Speaker 1: In his nose?
[56:14] Speaker 2: Yeah. It went through when he landed. His incisor went
[56:21] Speaker 2: through his lip and lodged in his nose.
[56:24] Speaker 3: Oh, my.
[56:26] Speaker 2: And it's stuff like that. You sit like, dude, you
[56:28] Speaker 2: got a big booger in your nose. Will you wipe
[56:33] Speaker 2: your nose or something like that? And I'm looking at him.
[56:36] Speaker 2: Is that a kid's knife? That's his tooth.
[56:38] Speaker 3: Last night they were looking at him. They were like,
[56:40] Speaker 3: are you okay?
[56:41] Speaker 5: He's like, yes. You know, hurt my face a little bit.
[56:44] Speaker 5: This dude had a tooth in his nose. And he
[56:45] Speaker 5: was still wrestling, dude. Sport has changed. Sport has changed.
[56:51] Speaker 5: He gets his tooth out and he hands it to
[56:52] Speaker 5: the ref. Hold that for me.
[56:55] Speaker 1: Hold that. Can I get that?
[56:56] Speaker 3: That's crazy.
[56:58] Speaker 2: He was tough, man. Bless his heart. He is a
[57:01] Speaker 2: sweetheart of a human being, man. I don't know if
[57:03] Speaker 2: y'all have been around him much.
[57:05] Speaker 1: I've seen the documentaries. To me, it doesn't make sense
[57:09] Speaker 1: how that person is capable of doing the damage to
[57:13] Speaker 1: his body and he likes it.
[57:15] Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that was kind of what he felt
[57:18] Speaker 2: his niche was. That was what would separate him from
[57:22] Speaker 2: everybody else, which it did. Um, you know, and I'm
[57:25] Speaker 2: kind of like the, the, the recipient of, of, of
[57:29] Speaker 2: his lunacy.
[57:30] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[57:31] Speaker 2: You know, cause like I said, I didn't, I didn't
[57:33] Speaker 2: want any part of it. I didn't, you know, I
[57:35] Speaker 2: was like, I don't think we need to do it.
[57:36] Speaker 5: But we didn't even talk about the street. I know
[57:38] Speaker 5: you have an 11 out. We didn't even talk about
[57:40] Speaker 5: the streak at all.
[57:41] Speaker 3: He's got to go things. We missed that.
[57:42] Speaker 1: The WWE fans are going to remus for, but I
[57:44] Speaker 1: just want to mention just so they know we were
[57:46] Speaker 1: going to, Because we could have a four-hour podcast on this. Obviously, Kane,
[57:50] Speaker 1: your streak, Brock Lesnar, Paul, Paul Bearer.
[57:52] Speaker 2: Come on.
[57:53] Speaker 1: We're going to have to pin it, dude. We might
[57:55] Speaker 1: have to do part two.
[57:57] Speaker 2: Bring me back, man. Sure. Our paths cross quite a
[57:59] Speaker 2: bit now.
[58:00] Speaker 3: It's his timing, not ours, by the way.
[58:02] Speaker 1: You just throw me under the bus. Well, he has
[58:04] Speaker 1: a flight.
[58:05] Speaker 3: Because we're going to get in trouble.
[58:06] Speaker 1: They're going to yell at us.
[58:08] Speaker 3: They're going to yell at us.
[58:09] Speaker 1: If I come back, he's got to be gone.
[58:11] Speaker 2: Fine, fine, fine. I can't work with him, man.
[58:12] Speaker 1: That's fine, dude. Unless, okay, is there anything else you
[58:15] Speaker 1: want to end on?
[58:16] Speaker 2: Dude, I'll come back. I'll get probably the next 25
[58:21] Speaker 2: years of that career we hadn't got to yet. But
[58:25] Speaker 2: I appreciate you having me on, man. And I'm sorry.
[58:27] Speaker 2: I've got to catch a plane. But I know we've
[58:31] Speaker 2: been trying to do this for a while. So I'll
[58:33] Speaker 2: definitely come back and take the hot seat again.
[58:37] Speaker 3: Okay. Excellent. Cool.
[58:41] Speaker 2: Wow. That's crazy. Yeah.
[58:45] Speaker 3: Where'd he go?
[58:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's his thing.
[58:49] Speaker 2: All right, ladies and gentlemen, The Undertaker.
